Out and about | London, England | August 12, 2024
Vivienne Westwood ‘Cut Off Jacket’ - $1,395.00 Vivienne Westwood ‘Wizard Frill Shirt’ - $760.00 Vivienne Westwood ‘Cut Off Skirt’ - $960.00 Vivienne Westwood 'Tuesday Mini Bag' $690.00 Sézane ‘Georgia High Mary Janes in Pistachio’ - $230.00
This marks a second time Taylor has made a direct pull from the VW FW 2024 lookbook. Like her previous look, shared by Brittany Mahomes when they were in Amsterdam, Taylor sought to diverge from the designer’s styling through her choice in footwear. The VW team styled this look with thigh-high red socks and tonal red platforms. Taylor instead opted for a Christmas Clueless-meets-Austin Powers aesthetic with crisp white socks and olive mary jane heels that bring out the green tones in her tartan set. I think the choice works to create a cohesive colour palette and makes more sense for the warmer weather in London. And also greeeeeeeeeeeen.
I personally love seeing the difference from in how a garment ultimately gets worn as a street style look it demonstrates an individual’s POV. The power of styling is everything! While a copy + paste of a campaign look is fun to see (esp for the designer kick of it all!), I think it’s most fun when someone brings that ‘styling’ element to a look and can depart dramatically from the designer’s original vision to give us their take on an outfit. I actually could imagine Taylor keeping the socks but opting in for those mary jane pumps and ditching the fussy shirt underneath for a simple tee or tank. If this were taking place in cooler temps I could also imagine a turtleneck and tights with heeled booties.
Taken in isolation, this is a great shoulder season look that, while not my personal taste, bridges the short hemlines and cute heels of summer with an autumnal palette and layering via the frilly white shirt. It also continues the connection between TTPD and VW. A signature of this era so far has been the corseted look, something that VW played a huge role in modernizing and integrating into their brand house codes.Taylor has worn many VW pieces for this era including while performing songs from TTPD on the Eras Tour.
This is Taylor’s first physical appearance since her trio of shows in Vienna, Austria were cancelled due to planned threats of a terrorist attack. Taylor has not commented thus far on these cancellations. According to reports, this appearance in London was following a party for Eras Tour staff ahead of her final string of shows at Wembley which conclude the European leg of this tour.

StEx Appreciation Month Day 18: Volta!
❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊
Face Claim: Zoe Hershaw, Eli Hayashi, Voyd, or Lyndi Oliver
Favourite Song/Scenes: AC/DC and the races! (the full on shrieking after being uncoupled from Hashimoto! She so angry 😭)
Favourite Costumes: I said the same thing last year, but when hasn't her costume slayed? Shout out to the asymmetrical sleeves (and whip!) from the early London costumes. I love her chaps and pillbox hat! I do prefer the blue lipstick over the red lipstick in most cases.
Favourite Ships/Friendships: Components x Electra, Volta x Joule, Volta x Joule x Wrench, Volta x Coco. She's friends with Electra and the other components! She'd also be such good friends with Coco (they both seem to have it out for Pearl lol)
Headcanons: Not only is she Electra's stylist, but she's also his personal confidante. She knows things about him nobody else does (her hair is big because it's full of secrets)
Unpopular Opinion: Volta should be a gender blind role. I know they have women covering him in Bochum, but the character is still male. Bring back the fan wig for some of the covers!
❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊
Bonus Round: Zero!
Face Claim: Jayred Lempriere
Favourite Song/Scenes: Same as above, AC/DC and the races! He has some fun background moments
Favourite Costumes: Bochum >>> Wembley (sorry not sorry)
Favourite Ships/Friendships: Zero x Flat Top, Zero x Killerwatt, Zero x Elektra, Zero x Espresso (but as a one-sided crush). Zero is friends with the other components and Elektra! Coco is his bitch/gossip buddy
Headcanons: Zero secretly hooks up with Flat Top sometimes. He would die if anyone ever found out
Unpopular Opinion: The solid black hair is sooooo boring compared to what female Volta had going on. Give him some blue streaks or something already!
❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊❄️🧊

Okay okay for the fic wip word game thingy:
Face, stop, start or house. Or if you don’t have one of those then I will think of more!
Face (100+ of these)
Old patter; for them, the equivalent of an olive branch. Jamie rocked back and forth on his heels, clutching his book and his bumbag, one eyebrow slightly raised with a beseeching expression on his face. Roy let him sweat it out a bit before stepping back. "Come on in, then. I'm just about to start lunch." Jamie's shoulders slumped as he darted inside Roy's house.
Stop (100 on the dot)
"Looks like we've got... vegetables. More vegetables, and oh- salmon? We're having salmon?" Jamie waved the white package in the air. On the front in the fishmonger's blocky writing it did, in fact, say, 'SALMON.' That didn't stop Jamie and Keeley from staring at him in bated anticipation until Roy confirmed, "Yes. We're having salmon."
Start (99)
Roy sat there with his palms pressed deep into his eyes and gave up, letting the tears do whatever the hell they wanted as grief, joy, and citric acid did a number on him. "If you're going to laugh about it you could at least bring me a fucking towel. And some tea. And restart the kettle. Fuck what Dr. Sharon says, we're doing this outside and we're going to sit facing away from each other."
House (are you fucking kidding me? you know how much I be talking about houses)
Roy's father had always been a big proponent of looking a man in the eye when you talked. Good eye contact was sacred in the Kent household. He didn't like to think about it now, but it was something that'd always grated him about Jamie. Jamie's eye contact was for shit, especially in an argument. He'd pick a spot off to the side or stare into the middle distance when he was saying his piece. More than one victory had been won when Roy got him to give up and look at the ground. After Wembley it made him nauseous to think about. He didn't think of them as victories anymore.

A little vignette from London on Easter Monday, 1992. Elio and Oliver go to a concert at Wembley Stadium.
Oliver pulled him close, the buttons of his denim jacket denting Elio’s cheek. The crowd was entranced by the music and no one looked at them twice. "We're safe," Oliver reminded him.

every book i’ve read in 2022
Fiction
House of Hollow - Krystal Sutherland - 3 sisters disappeared when they were children and reappeared a month later ~changed~
⭐️⭐️ - I think the idea of it was really good but not executed as well as it could of been
——————
This Time Next Year - Sophie Cousens - Quinn and Minnie are born on New Year's Eve, in the same hospital, one minute apart. Their lives may begin together, but their worlds could not be more different. Thirty years later they find themselves together again.
⭐️⭐️- The main character is literally called Minnie Cooper. Nothing about this book stood out to me
——————
Great Circle - Maggie Shipstead - 2 parallel narratives, one about the disappeared 20th century aviator, Marian Graves, and the other about a 21st century actress who is starring in a film about Marian
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I loved this book so much. I 100% recommend it
——————
Icebreaker - Hannah Grace - Anastasia, a figure skater, and Nate, an ice hockey player end up needing to share an ice rink after an accident
⭐️ - do not even look at this book if you’re under 18. The antagonist in this was just so comically bad and all the other characters are just *too* nice and try hard likeable
——————
Final Girls - Riley Sager - Quincy, Sam and Lisa all survived massacres and became what the media dubbed final girls. Lisa is found dead in her house and Sam ends up on Quincy’s doorstep, what really happened to Quincy 10 years ago and what is Sam hiding?
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - i didn’t like the ending of this
———————
What Might Have Been - Holly Miller - This shows the two different paths Lucy could take, in one she decides to move to London and revive her career and in the other she stays in her home town to become an author
⭐️⭐️ - this just didn’t stand out to me and I thought the London love interest was the absolute worst
———————-
The Reading List - Sara Nisha Adams - Widower Mukesh lives a quiet life in Wembley after losing his wife. Aleisha is working in the local library for the summer when she discovers a note with a list of books on it impulsively she decides to read every book on the list. When Mukesh arrives at the library trying to find a connection with his bookish granddaughter Aleisha passes the list onto him
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I LOVED this book so much, my favourite read of the year
——————
The Cuckoo’s Calling - Robert Galbraith - Struggling private detective Comoran Strike is asked to look over a models death after her brother reveals he doesn’t think it was a suicide
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Points off because Strike is described as ugly and having pube like hair but three (3) beautiful women all want to sleep with him? Unrealistic
———————
The Love Hypothesis - Ali Hazelwood - Olive hatches a scheme with grumpy professor Adam to pretend to date so her friend Anh will date Olives ex Jeremy and so that the school won’t think Adam is leaving and they’ll release his frozen funds
⭐️ - I paid 99p for this, it is literally published reylo fanfic
———————
The Whistling - Rebecca Netley - Elspeth arrives on a remote Scottish island to become a nanny to a young girl who hasn’t spoken in months. The girls silence is not the only mystery on the island. What happened to the girls twin brother and the last nanny? Is the whistling heard at night just the sea or is there something out there?
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - average book average score
———————-
Book Lovers - Emily Henry - Cut throat literary agent Nora agrees to go to Sunshine Falls with her sister Libby to complete a check list of small town tasks but while there she meets a familiar face from the city.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I really liked this book, a good twist on the small town romance genre.
————————
The Pact - Sharon Bolton - six friends are looking forward to their futures, until a daredevil game goes horribly wrong, and a woman and two children are killed. 18-year-old Megan takes the blame, leaving the others free to get on with their lives.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - kind of slow paced. Megan deserved to be more evil
—————————
The Flatshare - Beth O’Leary - Tiffy needs a cheap flat, and fast. Leon works nights and needs cash. Their friends think they're crazy, but it's the perfect solution: Leon occupies the one-bed flat while Tiffy's at work in the day, and she has the run of the place the rest of the time.
⭐️⭐️ - Kind of cliche and predictable. Does not live up to the hype in my opinion
—————————
Six Stories - Matt Wesolowski - Elusive online journalist Scott King investigates the murder of a teenager at an outward bound centre
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - This is like a true crime podcast but a book, very interesting. I felt the twist at the end was a bit silly
—————————
The Jackman and Evans series - Joy Ellis
⭐️⭐️ - I think these books are really bad but I am obsessed with them because of how stupid they are
————————
Non fiction and short stories
The mystery of the exploding teeth - Thomas Morris
⭐️⭐️⭐️
————
The vanishing triangle: the murdered women Ireland forgot - Claire McGowan
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
————
Post mortems - Carla Valentine
⭐️⭐️⭐️
————
A sincere warning about the entity in your home - Jason Arnopp
⭐️
————
Taken over by something evil from the TV set: a history of Britain’s video nasties controversy and other scary journalism - Jason Arnopp
⭐️⭐️
————
Down among the dead men - Michelle Williams
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
————
#i only remembered I could read in September so it’s a bit short#if you have any book recs please send them my way#I have a notebook with over 200 books I want to read in it#books

The Emirates FA Cup Takes Over New York With Unprecedented US Tour
The Emirates FA Cup, soccer's oldest and most-esteemed national knockout competition, made its presence felt across the New York area last week, with an inaugural United States trophy tour scoring points and social posts with thousands of casual and diehard football fans, celebrities, youth groups and athletes.
The New York ‘Takeover’ included a special event held pregame at Madison Square Garden with Knicks star Josh Hart and soccer legend Tim Howard; a visit to UBS Arena for a pregame meet and greet with Islanders fans (and their UK supporters group who happened to be on hand that night); a stop in with John Oliver at the Beacon Theater; and visits to other New York landmarks like the board at NASDAQ, Central Park, Brookyln Bridge, 30 Rockefeller Center and the Empire State Building. Additionally, local soccer influencers like Alexis Guerrero took the cup to his favorite NYC spots such as L’Industrie Pizzeria; Dylan Sadik, aka “The College Cuber” reimagined the trophy using Rubik’s cubes for fans to enjoy; and Frankie Flo freestyled alongside the famous silverware.
A major highlight of the tour was partnering with Black Star, a pioneering program dedicated to fostering the growth of soccer in Black American communities, and holding a special clinic at SoFive in Brooklyn. The event aimed to inspire the next generation of soccer players, while also highlighting the importance of diversity and representation within the sport. DaMarcus Beasley, renowned U.S. Soccer legend and Emirates FA Cup veteran, headlined the event and led a soccer clinic alongside local coaches. Beasley shared his personal soccer journey, spanning both sides of the Atlantic, and offered invaluable insights to aspiring players.
Speaking after the event, Beasley said: “Black Star teaming up with the Emirates FA Cup to grow the game in black communities and inspire the next generation is so important. Programs and clinics like these are much needed. My time spent with the kids was so much fun. To be able to watch them compete, learn and have fun was the best outcome I could have asked for.”
The tour was capped by a pair of sold-out viewing parties of the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round at Moonlight Studios in Soho, where one lucky fan (and a plus one) won the Grand Prize to be a guest of The English Football Association (The FA) for the Emirates FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium in London this May.
James Gray, Commercial Director at The FA, said: “We were delighted to bring the Emirates FA Cup to the US for this historic trophy tour. It’s an exciting time for the game in the US, with the ongoing growth of soccer evident to see, especially with the FIFA World Cup just a couple of years away. The trophy tour was an ideal opportunity to bring US fans closer to this iconic competition through the Watch Parties in collaboration with our broadcast partners ESPN+, and it was special to meet and engage with new audiences at these events.”

Spiderverse grabbed my by the throat and said “you WILL be blessed with creative energy and a worldview beyond your comprehension” and I drew this up immediately when I got home. So I have a few ideas for olden town and how it ties together faith and fantasy and how the central message is above all, understanding is everything and also a world where coexistence is possible is something we can dream of because the enemy is hatred and evil, not each other. I am so silly right now.

'...Murray Gold (composer, 2005 onwards) Once upon a time at Portchester Northern County Junior School, my best friend was Gavin Fuller. We talked endlessly about Doctor Who. Gavin went on to win Mastermind, answering questions about the show, and to write about Doctor Who for The Telegraph. I ended up being a composer on many episodes. There were concerts of my music at the Albert Hall, Wembley, the Sydney Opera House and many other venues, all with music inspired by this gifted time-travelling eccentric. If there was ever a show I would wish to be tethered to for all time, Doctor Who is that show. Happy birthday, you raggedy old, young thing.
Jacqueline King (played Sylvia Noble, 2006-2023) The delight of being cast in The Runaway Bride was immense, quickly followed by the surprise and joy of Catherine Tate wanting to do a whole series. And I got to go with her! Then the news that we were back together for the specials. The Noble family reunited, after 12 years! That was moving, I can tell you.
Ingrid Oliver (played Osgood, Unit scientist, 2013-2015) Is it cheesy to say the fans? Or Whovians, as they’re officially known? They are what have moved me most about being a part of the show. Playing Osgood has allowed me to travel the world meeting people at conventions for whom the show is a hugely important part of their lives. To see people dressed up as my character – men and women, old and young, from all walks of life – is such an extraordinary thing. So that, and swapping wine tips with John Hurt on the 50th anniversary episode.
Julie Gardner (producer, 2005 onwards) A greatest moment? Meeting my husband, Billie Piper, Kylie Minogue, [Torchwood episode] Day One 2004 filming with a man in a prosthetic pretending to be a space pig, the Proms, the Bafta for best series … There’s been so much laughter, love and hard work along the way. There have also been dark times, including a very gloomy late-night curry in the BBC Llandaff canteen when it all seemed hopeless. But what do I remember most? My car journeys with Russell T Davies. The two of us in my Mini Cooper, his head touching the ceiling. The conversations were everything: furious, frantic and raw. Some of those conversations changed my life.'

UK EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM
Government officials have announced that a UK- wide emergency alert system will be tested on Sunday 23rd April. In addition to the warning message, a loud siren like sound and vibration will be heard on phone screens starting at 15:00 for a duration of 10 seconds.
In a statement, Oliver Dowde, the minister responsible for the system, said it was a “vital tool for keeping the public safe in life threatening situations”.
The message will contain information that says “This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby”
As well as,
"In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe”.
"This is a test. You do not need to take any action."
The test was postponed from its initial early evening time slot to avoid conflicting with an FA Cup semi-final that began at Wembley Stadium at 16:30. To continue using their phone as normal, users have the option to swipe away the alert message or click "OK" on the home screen.
The warnings will function on all UK 4G and 5G phone networks and on gadgets running the following software.
Smartphones and tablets running Android 11 or after,
as well as iPhones running iOS 14.5 or after.
However, previous "non-smart" phones and gadgets that are off or in aeroplane mode won't be able to receive the warnings. When a phone is in silent mode, the alarm will still sound.
The government has stated that anyone without a suitable gadget will be notified by other means by the emergency services.
People were concerned if Local news, radio, and social media will be affected however they will not be replaced by the warnings.
With concerns of data leakage, the cabinet office has stated personal data regarding one’s specific location or user won’t be shared nor collected.
When might people in the future use emergency alerts?
On uncommon occasions when there is a threat to human life, the government or emergency services will send emergency notifications with safety tips - locally or nationwide. Yet the most dangerous weather-related incidents will be their initial focus. Catastrophic flames and flooding unusual weather.
However, domestic violence organisations are worried that the warning would reveal hidden phones that victims of abuse keep hidden, which is why knowing how to switch off these alerts are important. As simply putting on silent mode won’t allow the sound to not be heard.
An option could be placing the smartphone in aeroplane mode or completely turning it off before Sunday, April 23, 3:00 p.m.
