right now i'm mostly doing linked universe, but i also have fics up for my hero academia and d.gray-man. i might write for various other anime in the future-i've had some ideas brewing for natsume yuujinchou for a while now. i also wouldn't be surprised if tian guan ci fu fic ended up happening soon. and if I'm feeling especially bold, i might write for the silmarillion or the lord of the rings... or who knows what else! it's all about where the hyperfixations take me lmao

yes, always! i love it when i get comments, so i like to make sure commenters know that they're appreciated. sometimes it does take me a while, though.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

honestly, most of the fics i've written recently have had an angsty or open ending...but i think worst of all is a terrible fate. poor, poor sky. comfort is within reach at the end, but he won't ever reach out for it. i would also put in your glory up there, because although there's comfort, it's not what sky needs it to be. he doesn't feel especially comforted. and not strong enough has a similar problem, with hyrule not really ready to accept comfort...

when i started elitober i thought to myself, "these are all going to have happy or at least hopeful endings, because you like happy endings." and yet here i am!

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

the chance to fly is mostly fluff, and it's certainly got the most unambiguously happy ending of anything i've written recently. the only thing has a hopeful ending that i really like, too.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

my fics are not nearly popular enough for hate! which is a blessing.

9. Do you write smut?

i've never tried, and i think i'd probably be pretty bad at it, but i'm not...opposed to it i suppose?

10. Do you write crossovers?

i have not written one yet, but i do really enjoy them, so it could absolutely happen at some point!

nope! sometimes i think about trying to translate one of my own fics into spanish to get some practice, and then i think better of it lol

i haven't! i'm not great at collaborative work, honestly, so i don't think it would go super well.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

this is an extraordinarily hard question. i have been in So Many fandoms over the years. i think in the end my answer is probably hualian from tian guan ci fu. they make me feel so many things. honorable mentions to shin soukoku from bungou stray dogs, jonmartin from the magnus archives, shuake from persona 5, samfrodo from lord of the rings, and unfortunately bakudeku from my hero academia.

now, if we're talking lu specifically, the answer is raviolegend. easily. lu is certainly not a shipping fandom for me, but when i think about it in a romantic context, i'm pretty much always thinking about raviolegend. i will probably write some raviolegend soon. i do also love malon/time, though, and they could also get a fic. maybe.

(other various lu shipping thoughts while we're here: vidow is a personal favorite loz ship, but i actually don't like it quite as much in the lu context. i will admit that i'm rather lukewarm on sky/sun. they're cute, but i rarely feel anything other than affection for them. [although "rarely" does not mean never; see nearer to thee.] sky/sun/groose is a little more exciting. wind/tetra is very cute, although i can't see myself ever writing for it. totk zelink are an absolutely god-tier ship imo, but wild and flora are, in my mind, very different from those characters. and wild/flora does not hold the same appeal to me at all)

15. What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

the thing about all the fics I've been writing recently is that they're very short and i concentrate specifically on them until they're done, so i don't actually have any wips right now! well. i guess all of elitober is kind of a wip...but i am planning to finish that eventually! really! by next october at the very latest! i know i keep saying this but i really do mean it...

16. What are your writing strengths?

personally, i think i'm good at coming up with nice turns of phrase. i enjoy rereading my own fics often so i can pick out lines that i love! i generally like my word choice and figurative language. and i do think I'm good at writing introspection. i spend so much time in my own head; when a character is just thinking, i can generally render it pretty well.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

i have a hard time writing action. and i don't just mean fight scenes, although those are certainly a challenge. but when i take a step outside of a character's head and stop just being introspective-in short, whenever i try to make anything actually happen-i feel like i lose control of the situation, and i think my writing suffers for it. but unfortunately, fics where nothing really happens are kind of boring! i certainly get bored of writing them. this is definitely something i want to work on.

also, my fics are too short! i have a tendency to repeat myself in my writing-which is actually something i like about my style-yet so many of my fics end up feeling so straightforward and being very brief. i want to work on adding more details to make word counts go up a little.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

i feel like it's generally rather clunky and awkward. i wouldn't include a big chunk of text in another language.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

i wrote some pretty awful percy jackson fic back in fifth or sixth grade...i guess that must have been the first!

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

oh, now this is a hard one! and i'm going to talk about it at length because i rarely get the chance to really talk about my writing.

i think ultimately it comes down to my perfect trifecta of sky angst that i've written so far (to be clear, i've written more than three works of sky angst, but these are my favorites): a terrible fate, in your glory, and nearer to thee. (and i also have to shout out my one hyrule angst fic, not strong enough, because although i'm unsatisfied with it in a lot of ways, it still makes me feel really deeply and has some lines that have stuck with me.)

so.

#3-in your glory. this was the first fic i wrote for my age shuffle au, before i really thought that it might become a series. i was just playing around with baby sky, with how the others saw him and thought about him, and how he processed his own trauma, and so on. it makes my heart hurt so deeply for him.

#2-a terrible fate. this fic is just one thing after another for poor sky: he has a nightmare of the worst day of his life, as if that wasn't already bad enough. and then he sees his beloved companions blame him for their fates, as he always feared they would. eventually, he can't take any more and wakes himself up, but he does not ask for comfort, because he doesn't feel he deserves it. it's just so bleak. and unlike with in your glory, we know exactly how helpless and terrified sky feels, because we're in his head. more than any of my fics, sometimes i can't believe that i wrote this one.

and finally, #1-nearer to thee. this fic is weird because it's really not like any fic i've ever read. i don't know why i wrote it, except that i love fictional religion and religious characters, and i was thinking about sky's faith, and i was listening to nearer, my god, to thee on repeat. but without my intending it, this fic is about zelda just as much as it is about hylia, and the blurring of lines between them. it is about love just as much as it is about faith. i think faith is a form of love, of course, but sky feels more than just that for zelda. it is about immortality, too, which is a subject that has long preoccupied me. but i had never before thought about it from the perspective of a lover left behind.

there are parts of this fic that i don't love or that i sort of skip over when i reread, which isn't really true of in your glory or a terrible fate. but this fic is still, i think, my favorite i've ever written because it really made me think while i was writing it. and because something about it is so deeply personal; i connect with it. other people haven't, at least not yet. and because the last few paragraphs are some of my favorite words i've ever written, because every time i reread it i have to read them over and over again. sky grieves for his beloved's loneliness. she will live on without him for thousands of years, and she will become much more hylia than zelda, but still she will not forget him. and because of the curious threads of fate, tangled by time travel, they will have one more chance to speak again, long after she would have lost all hope of such a thing. i mentioned somewhere above that i love the silmarillion, and this bit reminds me a little of a specific genre of silm fix-it fic, where thousands of years have passed since the real tragedies happened, and now families and friends and lovers long parted finally have the chance to be reunited and be happy. of course, sky and sun's meeting here is only brief, and they cannot touch. he cannot even see her. but it is still more than they might have expected. it is hopeful, it is bittersweet. i can't describe why it touches me so much, but it does. and what a wonderful thing it is to feel these words that i wrote so deeply.

I don't really do angst that much? Maybe "The Silent Realm", a short fic from the point of view of Skyward Sword Link and how he feels about his trips into that space.

This is harder because I usually end all of my fics on a positive note! My silly fics though, "Hey Link!" and "You Want to Talk to Link, Right?" are probably the best endings. "Father of Time" has pretty happy/comfort type endings for all chapters but it's not finished, as such.

Not yet! Please don't take that as a challange.

Not at all, no. I don't mind a little romance and maybe some implied "behind closed doors" type of stuff but I don't write those sorts of things. Too awkward for it.

I like to think that my sentences are clean and easy to understand. I do a lot of editing to make sure I don't sound repetitive. I also output *a lot* of words when I'm in the mood for writing. I think I did 5k one day because I just had to get everything out.

Keeping my tenses straight. Holy shit it drives me crazy

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I try to avoid this because I don't think I'm very good at language building and I don't know enough of any other language to feel like I'm going to do justice to the language in question.

“Now, don't worry yourself into a puddle, old man,” Goro says, nonchalantly flipping a piece of bacon with the spatula in his hand. It lands tittering towards the edge of the pan, just barely staying in the pan. Akira internally winces at the burnt bits of the bacon as Goro nudges the meat back into the pan. 

From the side, Sumi sighs. She waves a hand in the air and a plain, red cape flutters towards her and drapes itself around her shoulders. “I'm stepping out for a bit,” she calls out as she heads towards the door and flicks the knob to red. Akira notices how her head bobs a little, as though nodding to herself, before she opens the door and into what appears to be a bustling city, complete with the crowds walking about on the cobbled pathways and the chatter of excited words. Akira has a sneaking suspicion that she left to get food for herself, rather than stay around for Goro's cooking. Understandable. 

Somehow, during the period of time Akira was distracted by Sumi's exit, Goro has plated the burnt food (double the portion, too, Akira notices grimly. The hospitality is appreciated, but.) and presents the eggs and bacon to Akira with a sheepish smile. “I'm not the best at cooking, but I hope these are fine.”

Akira has about ten different responses being written up in his head and discarded just as quickly: “No, thank you, I appreciate it —” but? How am I supposed to end that off without sounding like I don't even want to touch the food? “Maybe I should cook instead?” I'm a guest, that's being terribly impolite. “I don't want to eat this.” Gee, Akira, might as well tell him his house is a dump, too.

Stop Being Mean To The Heroine!!

Summary: Shen Yuan just wanted her underrated and overhated best girl, Luo Binghe, to be happy. So why the fuck was she put into the role of the bitch who tormented her Bing-mei the most?!

Notes: Look. Maybe if I could find more than ONE fucking villainess isekai yuri, we wouldn’t be here. But I cannot, so here we are. This is more of a preview/for fun idea. I know I wrote something similar with shuake...but this one has lesbians so it’s completely different.

Light shined through the glass windows of the greenhouse, basking the inner garden with an almost halo. That halo, of course, couldn’t compare to the one atop a young maiden’s head, no matter how much that maiden’s head hung low between hunched, miserable shoulders.

“...Luo Binghe,” her most wretched tutor began. Slowly. Cruelly.

Luo Binghe flinched, and that flash of panic and unease was enough to cause any gallant man to launch himself forward to protect her from the world and its horrors. Those helpless garnet eyes darted away from her tutor, those precious cupid-bow lips trembling.

“Y-Yes, madam?”

Such a pitiful quiver! It should’ve been a siren call to every knight far and wide!

The most beautiful maiden is in peril! Come save her right away! What the fuck are you waiting for?! Doesn’t your heart cry for her torment?!

To make matters worse, the system glowed menacingly before the wretched tutor. An unwavering text box with a single question.

How should she be scolded?

And it only provided three options.

>Throw tea at her.

Ah, yes. The tried and true punishment of dumping hot tea on the poor girl and then forcing her to sit properly for hours. And if scalding hot water to the point of blisters wasn’t enough to push Luo Binghe to the brink of tears…

>Smack her arms.

Then there was always the pure physical fucking torture! Why even be shy about it, ah?! Why not just beat this poor girl like a fucking drunkard if you just want to see her battered and broken?! Might as well keep it simple! And you can still force her to sit properly for hours after! Why! Not! Why the fuck not?!

>Scold her verbally.

This one could only earn a helpless sigh from the wretched tutor. The mega bitch whose only purpose, it seemed, was to abuse the pure-hearted heroine. Keeping her face hidden by her fan, the bitch finally spoke up.

“Straighten your shoulders. A lady must always have good posture.”

Stern. Cold. BITCH.

“Yes, madam!”

Luo Binghe, ever the dutiful darling, hurriedly squared her shoulders and…and, and, and…

Bounce.

Yep. There they were.

Luo Binghe’s greatest weapons.

Her bountiful bosom rising with the motion, now at attention. Even stuffed into an unsightly gown didn’t fully obscure the perfect curvature nor the plush swell. The tits that launched ten thousand ships in the flesh! No wonder many a man lost their heart and mind immediately!

And now even the mega bitch tutor was ogling her like a dirty old uncle! What the fuck?! Could this wretch’s degeneracy know no bounds?!

The tutor quickly resumed hiding behind her fan, a racing heart where the cold void should’ve been.

Indeed, Shen Yuan was truly gobsmacked by the precious fruits of her most cherished idol. So much so that she nearly broke character! While the mega bitch tutor would indeed eye Luo Binghe’s chest, that was more so with disgust and disdain than…the awestruck marveling that she was actually doing.

That stupid fucking system was blaring fucking OOC warnings at her, too.

Shen Qingqiu is a cold-hearted woman who never breaks face. Whose cruel eyes only grow frostier. If I cannot play this role, then…who knows what might happen to me.

And already, the system shifted into another text box.

How will you respond?

With three wretched fucking options.

>Throw tea at her.

>Tell her she looks like a whore.

>Verbally reprimand further.

Why the hell is this bitch’s first thought to always throw tea at Binghe, ah?! Luo Binghe has probably been doused in tea more often than she’s been bathed!

And body-shaming was just out of the question! That was a betrayal of womanhood and clearly just a display of insecurity! Just because Luo Binghe’s body type was enviable and unattainable did not fucking mean it was okay to tear her down for it! Just what the fuck!

Biting her lip in frustration, Shen Qingqiu gritted her teeth through the third option.

“Chin up. Eyes straight.” And before she can even stop herself, “You’re such a disappointment.”

Are you really so goddamn petty that you can’t be a little polite to this poor little sister?!

“Yes, Madam.” And Luo Binghe! That sweetheart! Her chin went up and her eyes valiantly locked on the fan of her tutor (whose face was still hidden). “This lowly one apologizes for her incompetence.”

Don’t apologize! Don’t! Not only is it not your fault that your tutor’s just a petty mega bitch…

Inside Shen Qingqiu’s head was only screaming.

But the more pitiful you are, the greater the karmic retribution will be at the hands of all your vengeful husbands!!

To start with, the world of the game was…trash. It was utter trash.

Pretty Immortal Demon Girl was an uninspired and vapid title, but Shen Yuan was drawn to the premise and figured she had time to kill. If this dating sim boasting hundreds of husbands was any good then maybe it’d be fun for an afternoon or two.

First of all, it was less a dating sim and more a hubby collect-a-ton. Oh sure, some of the meat bags had names attached to their handsome faces but it wouldn’t be long before they got lost in the sea of hot dogs all panting over and crawling over one another to slobber on the heroine’s feet. It was one of the most shameless indulgences of wish fulfillment that Shen Yuan ever sat through.

And of course, the cursed thing had amassed a cult following of tons of fans and fujoshi over the various men from the sweet-faced childhood friend to the sexy and seductive demon lord’s son. However, one character often lost in the shuffle was, ironically and yet predictably enough, the heroine.

Luo Binghe was…frankly the only reason that Shen Yuan kept reading even after she long lost track of the guys following Dude No. 42.

Her beginnings were as humble as could be. She was an orphan discovered in the river by an old washerwoman and raised with a lot of love and care. Tragically, her adoptive mother passed away from sickness and age, leaving the poor girl alone once more.

And then, she was discovered to be the secret daughter of a well-respected knight of the palace! The old palace master, who had cared deeply for that knight then took Luo Binghe in.

But rather than fortune shining down upon her, that palace turned out to be a special kind of hell. Like any other weepy and victimized heroine, Luo Binghe was forced to suffer all kinds of humiliation and bullying from her peers and even the palace staff, but the worst offender was no doubt the wretched mega bitch tutor.

Shen Qingqiu! Once a respected swordswoman and sorceress who following an unfortunate deviation was forced into early retirement and could only continue in the field as a teacher. She still commanded respect with not only her intelligence but also her clever handle on social posturing and networking, so if you thought to feel even the slightest bit sorry for her, think again!

Shen Qingqiu had always been a bitch who delighted in tormenting her female squires and underlings while shamefully lusting after the men. But as she was the beloved sworn sister of the highly respected master of swords and magic, Yue Qingyuan, no one dared speak a word against Shen Qingqiu.

And because of that peerless reputation, Luo Binghe was dropped off in front of Shen Qingqiu without a second thought.

And Shen Qingqiu, the petty fucking hypocrite that she was, took one look at this filthy little orphan only taken in due to her supposed bloodline…and decided that the new purpose in her life should be tearing Luo Binghe to shreds.

Yes, Shen Qingqiu was loathsome to the bone! Not a single soul mourned when the witch had been torn to shreds by the army of husbands.

But Luo Binghe didn’t fare much better within the fanbase.

Once pure-hearted and innocent, once her demonic blood was revealed and Shen Qingqiu’s immediate attempt on her life was evaded… Luo Binghe had gone through a devastating transformation.

The white flower blackened into a spiteful and vindictive seductress. One who still pretended to be a lamb to all the men to twist them into doing her bidding. One who was not above fucking men into submission and dangling pleasure over their heads as she ordered travesty after travesty. All in the name of destroying those who had wronged her.

Shameless! Perhaps even vile! A pure green tea bitch!

And so fucking interesting, Shen Yuan thought! Anyone who complained clearly had no taste or it was just sexism.

Sure Luo Binghe wasn’t the typical virtuous heroine, but she was complex! Still tortured! Under those thorns of cruelty and sexuality was still the broken, delicate heart of a maiden! One that just needed the right mending by just the right man…

Which. Never. Fucking. Happened.

Every ending was the fucking same with a cold Luo Binghe ruling the kingdom with her harem army. The only real difference was some of them focused on a specific husband or two. This resulted in the fanbase raging against Luo Binghe for being a tyrannic empress and writing fic after fic where <insert husbando here> came to his senses and vanquished the dreaded beast.

Whereas Shen Yuan looked at all these useless fucking fuck boys and was like, “NONE of you could reach Luo Binghe’s maidenly heart?! Not a SINGLE fucking one?!”

What a fucking waste of time! To think another woman wrote something so deeply unsatisfying! Even Shen Yuan could do better! She could do much better!

Shen Yuan could easily write a story where her precious Bing-mei found love and happiness with the perfect man of her dreams!

And then Shen Yuan died.

Shen Yuan then woke up…in the body of the mega bitch Shen Qingqiu. With the system happily blipping into view to inform her of all the torment that she was to inflict on Luo Binghe lest the world be destroyed and she get sent back to her real world where nothing more of her than a corpse remained.

Motherfucker.

So. She couldn’t have been reborn as Shen Qingqiu before meeting Luo Binghe. Oh no, that would’ve been too fucking easy. By the time Shen Yuan’s soul rolled around into the black hole that supposedly housed Shen Qinqgiu’s stone-cold heart, it had already been three years since Luo Binghe was taken in.

Three years.

Three years of getting tea thrown at her. Getting locked in the shed. Being forced on her hands and knees for hours. Being forced to fast for days after body-shaming. To make matters worse, Luo Binghe’s hair was currently shorter than a boy’s.

This was the case…because Shen Qingqiu had wrenched up a handful of Luo Binghe’s curly tresses and forcibly sheared them off. Blaming a sobbing Luo Binghe for having such untameable hair.

God. Fucking. Dammit. Shen Yuan knew she was fucked. That she was forced to keep torturing this poor girl was the cherry on top of this shit sundae!

But if the host does well, the system cheerfully chirped. She may freeze the dialogue option and the OOC warnings.

By the time she fucking managed that, Shen Qingqiu would’ve already dug her grave six feet under.

It sucked. It really, really sucked.

“It sucks so much!”

OOC, the system informed her smugly. Shen Qingqiu would never whine and kick her feet like a spoiled brat.

“Fuck off! Let me act however I damn well please in my own room!”

Permission granted, the system decided.

Piece of shit. Shen Qingqiu threw a pillow which just flew right through the screen. The system flicked out of existence but no doubt it was cackling at her misery. Shen Qingqiu had half a mind to yank her own hair out of her scalp and scream.

Unfortunately, it was for the better she not be overheard. Shen Qinqiu was thought to be as strong and silent as a statue. One who only spoke when necessary and never drew attention to herself by any means beside a sheer force of presence.

What a fucking laugh considering what a monster the woman actually was.

Shen Qingqiu sighed, opening and shutting her fan a couple of times.

The rest of that meeting with Luo Binghe had, thankfully, passed by without further incident. Once Luo Binghe’s posture had been corrected no less than five times, the system stopped bothering them and Shen Qingqiu could sip the tea in peace. It was tea that Shen Qingqiu had brewed herself to ‘teach Luo Binghe how it was done’ (read: so that she’d have one less thing that the system would force her to get on Binghe’s ass about), and thankfully she retained enough physical memory to not embarrass herself with a weak cup.

Luo Binghe still seemed hesitant, but she sipped the tea and complimented Shen Qingqiu earnestly and sweetly. Shen Qingqiu never responded to anything. Because anytime she spoke, it was always, always, always to say something fucking nasty.

“I can’t compliment Bing-mei on anything!” Shen Qingqiu lamented.

Because that would be OOC, the system reminded her.

Shen Qingqiu groaned, waving the system away.

OOC. Once she unfroze that feature, she’d be able to treat Luo Binghe justly. She’d be able to shower the child with praise instead of hot tea. She’d be able to pat that curly head without pulling out the strands. She’d be able to get on her knees and grovel for forgiveness so that Luo Binghe wouldn’t send the dogs after her!

Change her fate! Change the ending!

And then, Shen Qingqiu thought with the utmost seriousness. Weed through all those useless sausages and find a truly worthy man for my darling Bing-mei.

But did such a man even exist? Maybe, as the reformed and oh so dutiful tutor, Shen Qingqiu could keep that precious flower to herself to painstakingly nurture and care for…

DEGENERACY WARNING!!!

“It was a fucking joke!” Shen Qingqiu hissed at the blaring system. “Obviously, the best thing to do would be to retire to the peaceful countryside once I can be sure that Luo Binghe won’t have me hunted down!”

Besides, even if I were a man, Luo Binghe deserves better than a bitter nag.

Unfortunately, matchmaking would have to come later. Much later. She needed to find a way to freeze the dialogue options and OOC restriction stat.

She didn’t think the system would stay satisfied with mere verbal abuse. So before the dialogue forced her into doing something truly heinous…she had to act.

No pressure.

Shen Qingqiu fanned herself rapidly.

No pressure at all.

Yes!! I’ve been wanting someone to ask me about Ren or Yu. After typing this though I feel like some of my opinions are kinda controversial 😅

Favorite Thing About Them

This is the question that keeps me from posting these quickly. There are too many things I love about these characters. It’s really hard to pick a favorite thing, so I’ll just talk about one of the many things I love.

Even though we know nothing about his life pre-game and he’s a silent protag, Ren’s still a really unique character while also being a normal, teenage boy. He doesn’t need to be weird or have an intriguing backstory to be interesting. He also feels like he could be a real person. And he’s hilarious.

Least Favorite Thing About Them

He’s mean to Mishima for no reason.

I wish he had more of a backstory. I want to know more about him and his life prior to the game. I think Strikers would have been the best opportunity to give us some more insight on his life, and I was really disappointed when that didn’t happen.

The way some of the fandom sexualizes him is disgusting. He’s a child.

I understand why people ship Shuake. I do not understand how people can say they’re “basically canon.” They’re not. Also, a lot of Shuake content I see portrays Ren as this super fluffy, sensitive, sweet catboy which is weird and so far from who he is. I think he’s portrayed this way to be a contrast to Akechi. I don’t think you should change a character’s personality just to fit your ship better or to create the ship dynamic that you want. Not all content is like this, but I’ve seen a lot of it. Also, also, Ren caring about his friend’s death doesn’t automatically equal romance. Of course, he was sad that Akechi died. They’re friends. Speaking of, Ren’s dream reality wish wasn’t for Akechi to be alive. People who are currently rejecting dream reality don’t get their wishes. We know this because the wishes of everyone else in the party disappeared when they started rejecting it. We also know that Ren’s wish was to stay in Tokyo forever (which you find out if you accept dream reality). Maruki said he brought Akechi back because he thought it was tragic. He never said Ren wished for it. Even if Ren did wish for it, that wouldn’t automatically equal romance. If my friend died, I would want them to be alive too. I know a lot of Shuake shippers are really defensive of their ship, so if you have the urge to argue with me, please don’t. I don’t have the time or energy to talk in-depth about their relationship.

Random Headcanon

Ren has a light country accent. In the stage play, Ryuji makes fun of the way he says a certain word at the ramen shop. In a manga, a stranger calls him “an idiotic country bumpkin.” The only way that stranger could have known Ren was from the country would be his accent.

Ren’s scared of heights. This is actually implied in the game, but not a lot of people know about it. When he goes to Tokyo Tower with Sumire, two of his responses are “You don’t mind heights?” And “B-But if we fall...” When he goes there with Takemi, he says his ears feel weird and his heart is pounding. She then asks if he’s scared of heights. If you choose to train, Morgana will tell Ren to stand on a chair and one of his dialogue options is, “I’m not good with heights.” He looks miserable on the roller coaster in the animation. At Dometown, Ryuji says he’ll protect Ren on the roller coaster and starts teasing him saying “you better not cry on it.” When asked if he would rather go to Hawaii or LA, Ren can say Leblanc. Ann will then ask if Ren is scared of airplanes.

He is not athletic. Like not in the slightest. Ryuji, Sumire, Takemi, and Kawakami all point this out. In the manga, Ren says he was late due to his “poor physical condition.”  Sumire never tells him “good job” after training, she always says “good effort.” In a manga, Yusuke said he wanted to capture suffering then asked Ren to exercise. In Dancing, Ren thinks this while in Makoto’s room, “The weights are labeled 4K...Almost nine pounds. Really!?” While in Akihabara, Ryuji says the exercise machines are really expensive. If the player chooses to say he wants one, Ryuji says even if Ren could afford one, he won’t use it and it’ll just collect dust. Ryuji also tells Ren, “You gotta be more active.” After Takemi says a lot of students have been getting injured due to sports she says, “Well, I guess a kid like you doesn’t have much to worry about that...”

His glasses are real. I know it’s confirmed that his glasses are fake, but I really don’t like that concept. Most people don’t wear glasses, so they won’t help him “blend in.” They’d do the opposite- if they did anything at all. And that “intense gaze” thing doesn’t make much sense either. Have you seen his portraits? His facial expressions hardly change, and he has so much hair you can barely even see his eyes. I also just dislike the “intense gaze” trope in general. I like having a character with glasses who isn’t a nerd, genius, or old. Your eyesight has no impact on your personality, so Ren - who is also the main character btw - needing glasses would be cool.

Since he wears a lot of black and is always with Morgana, he probably has cat hair all over him.

He doesn’t have a big stomach/appetite. He tends to react judgmentally to how much Sumire, Ryuji, and Ann eat. When he was asking around Yongen-Jaya to see if anyone knew Futaba, a man asked if Ren eats a lot, and after you respond the man says “you don’t eat a lot?”

Ren’s a picky eater. Makoto asks Ren if he’s an adventurous eater and his dialogue options are basically no. He says, “yeah, sometimes”, “not really”, and “it depends.” When Jose asks if your tastebuds change as you get older, both of Ren’s responses are no which makes me think he won’t try anything he disliked once, even if it was years ago.

Since he’s from a small town, Ren gets lost a lot. There’s actually a manga where he texts Ann, “I’m lost. Send help.” Ann asks if he’s bad with directions, and he - distressed- says “No...Tokyo just takes a little getting used too...”

Ren’s late pretty often.

Since he’s from a small town, he’s a slower walker than some of the other characters.

He’s terrible with names. He asks for Kamoshida’s name three times, when Kawakami says Niijima wants to speak with you he has the option to ask who that is, the dialogue options for telling Ryuji Mishima’s name, the text bubble never changes from principal and Haru’s fiancé even though the player knows their names, he forgets Arsene’s name in a manga strip, he forgets Eiko’s name, and in Q2 one of his dialogue options is there’s too many names.

Unpopular Opinion

I’ve seen a lot of people complain that Ren didn’t seem to have PTSD after everything that happened in the interrogation room. I’ve also read things like, “There’s no way he doesn’t have PTSD.” That’s not how PTSD works. PTSD doesn’t care what you think “should” or “should not” happen. Traumatic events can trigger PTSD; however, not everyone emerges from trauma with it. Headcanon all you want, but saying it’s wrong that the game didn’t give him PTSD isn’t right.
