"Tiempo": angustia y misterio de la mano de Shyamalan
Shyamalan es un director, con ojo experto y especializado, a la hora de crear atmósferas inquietantes, guiones originales y angustia metafísica. Después de su exitazo con “El sexto sentido” creó un estilo personal que suscitó mi curiosidad por su capacidad de intriga muy personal, su huida de los sustos, y su reflexión con lo paranormal, la melancolía y la muerte. Su particular estilo se…

I am starting from the beginning with Wimsey and have just finished Whose Body? Truly original and bloody brilliant.
Then, as if the universe wanted to even things up a bit, I decided to watch Old. 😬😬😬

What are your favorite non-Disney movies?
Oooh I have so many!!! I’ll try to keep this as short as I can. 🤣
As far as animated films go, my ultime non-Disney favorites are “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” and the “How To Train Your Dragon” franchise. They are all such touching stories with beautiful animation and amazing soundtracks. I still listen to the songs from “Spirit” on a regular basis. Oh, and “Rio”! The second one is okay, but the first one holds a special place in my heart. 💙
The “Despicable Me” and “Minions” films. ‘Nough said. 😜
Choosing non-Disney live action films is a bit tougher, though, as I love a lot of them! I adore “The Greatest Showman” and the “Jurassic Park” franchise, as well as rom-coms such as “The Proposal” and “Hitch.” I’m not a huge fan of horror, but there are a few I love such as “Dark Skies” and "Before I Wake." I even like a couple that are supposed to be scary but honestly just make me laugh, like "The Visit" and "Old." 😂
I’ve also recently gotten into anime films. My favorites are “Spirited Away” and “Ponyo” from Studio Ghibli, and “Suzume” and “Tunnel To Summer: Exit of Goodbyes.”
If there are any of these films I mentioned that you haven’t seen, please go watch right now!!! I highly recommend all of them! 🥰

Rewatching Old (2021)
The biggest problem with this movie is that it's too foreign. It feels like a poor imitation of some French art house film.
Also, too many accents.

OLD (2021) Grade: C-
Definitely had some some interesting story, but overall to inconsistent. A few dud scenes & the ending wasn't that great. Had potential. Something about the dialogue bother me, some characters just talked flat.

DEVIL (2010)

Its an M. Night story so there is a twist. Duh. But otherwise a good film.

Five trapped people in an elevator, one is the devil. A detective does something that isn't really his job description for other no reason than he has a hunch? Also it's the old lady.

When you watch a movie that falls squarely in the top 3 worst films you've seen that year you'll be bound to ask yourself why they'd let a director make another one after that. Yet these directors still do, thanks to track record, industry connections, rich family members, and the fact that the next movie will probably be pretty forgettable but commercially successful enough to grant them the keys to another bland studio project. Just look at Scott Waugh.
What if that next movie isn't? What if the next movie is Rebel Moon: Scargiver? And the movie after that. And then the movie after that. On the director's 3rd of 4th truly terrible movie you have to ask "why are we letting this guy make film anymore?" With Zack Snyder the answer falls somewhere between his army of weirdly dedicated apologist fanboys willing to follow him beyond the depths of hell (and into Scargiver's bloated 2nd act) and those massive beautiful forearms. But not all directors have Snyder's *personality,* especially not Manoj Nelliyattu (better known as M. Night) Shyamalan, whose forearms are completely normal and filmography is only slightly better than Zack's.
Of course I hear his newest film (Trap) and the one before that (Knock at the Cabin) are actually pretty good, so we may be seeing the return of the good Shyamalan, but my experience watching Old, his movie about the beach that makes you old, makes me too cautious to make this a pronouncement.
Which is to say the movie is not good. Not even bad in the fun way.
I could go on and on listing its flaws, how the acting and delivery was simply painful to watch, how the entire core premise should have been a twist, not spoiled in both the trailers and title, and how this whole thing should have been just a 30-45 minute episode of the Twilight Zone, not a feature film with unfortunately CG sets.
There's a kid in it whose main personality trait is asking people their names and what they do for a living in what is clearly a mechanical device meant to set up exposition. There's a character playing a rapper named "Mid-Size Sedan." None of it is charming. All of it drags on an unfortunate amount of time.
Shyamalan's career has been a series of really fantastic concepts for a special event horro/sci-fi anthology miniseries (oh and also the Last Airbender movie) that instead get made into feature-length productions with a varying level of success. This one gets tossed into the rejects pile, valuable only for recurring bits through the years with your friends about The Beach that Makes You Old.

Bad Movie Decisions
Old (2021l
Okay, let's watch this bitch. May contain spoilers for the 2021 M. Night Shyamalan film, Old.
04:13 These kids had better get old fast. That's the whole premise, right? If Big was a horror film and actually engaged with the fact it unwittingly made a pedophile of the female lead?
05:59 They're on a beach. Maybe the Beach That Makes People Old. Which, as I understand from the trailer, is what this film is actually about. (I was joking about the Big thing, although it is horrific if you stop and think about it).
06:38 Patented Shyalaman approach to characterisation there - have two kids go and ask everyone their name and occupation.
10:07 Why is this dude wearing sunglasses at night?
10:19 Abbey Lee 😍
11:38 The sunken-eyed resort manager wants a troubled family to get in a van to a secret beach that he describes as "an anomaly". I'm sure this is fine.
14:38 M. Night is the van driver. Abort! ABORT!!!
18:35 The rapper's eyes are gonna have rotted out of his head when he takes the sunglasses off. Calling it.
21:30 Hmm, she's dead, but she's not... Old 🤔
21:43 The rapper still has eyes. Very disappointed. He does have a nosebleed, but very tame compared to my headcannon.
22:51 Grandma's surely gonna cark it next, even though it'd make more sense for it to be Gustave the Yorkshire Terrier.
31:29 Rufus Sewell plays this same arsehole in everything and I'm okay with that.
32:54 The "stay in pairs in case anyone blacks out" plan is going really well.
39:51 Looks like we're going to be treated to some impromptu beach surgery. My favourite.
42.39 The plot points this guy will use to avoid an R rating. Incredible.
45:10 If everything is undone when they finally find a way back through the timey wimey cave, I'm gonna throw shit.
46:56 The rapper has already been here hours longer than the others, surely? Was he a fucking child when he arrived? This film makes no sense!
51:24 This cast is too good for this.
1:08:03 I hope I look as good at 70 as half these people apparently do.
1:13:57 Why hadn't anyone just clubbed Charles over the fucking head by this point? Why is he still being given free rein to stab everyone up?!
1:14:51 Why is everyone behaving like Charles is some unkillable Jason Vorhees maniac when he's just a confused, rapidly-ageing surgeon with a teeny tiny knife?!
1:17:41 "SUBTEXT IS FOR COWARDS!" screams Shyalaman, taking off his shirt to reveal a tattoo of Robert McKee's face.
1:21:23 Make-up department: "All right, so did you want Gael to be bald or go grey or what?"
Shyalaman: What? EWWW! No, gross. Just a few cute wrinkles and that's it. We don't want him to look DISGUSTING!
Make-up: But grey hair is a natural part of-
Shyalaman: *covering ears and screaming*
1:24:08 Genuinely, what does the resort get out of this? I get that there's some vague hand-wavy stuff towards it being a scientific study but to what end?
1:25:42 He definitely thinks this sand castle scene is profound.
1:31:22 My question still stands. This is not how you science. This would not stand up as viable fast-tracking ANYWHERE.
1:40:18 HOW IS THIS STILL NOT OVER?!
1:41:23 Finally.
