“Hey Kazuya, can I ask you something?”, Tsukuba said, trying and failing to sound casual as they sat at a red light.
Kazuya blinked. Tsukuba only called him Kazuya when he wanted to get personal. It wasn’t as if he particularly minded being addressed by his family name, though sometimes he did wonder if Tsukuba remembered exactly which of them was supposed to be the senpai here.
Kazuya had met Tsukuba’s guardian/caretaker/father figure once, and he had liked the man greatly. Watching the two of them together reminded him of himself and Professor Henry, in a fond nostalgic and not a so sad he was going to throw up way. Maybe that was where Tsukuba had gotten his constant need to be prim and proper from.
“Umm yeah sure go for it.”
The light turned green, and they were off again. Kazuya stole a quick glance at his senpai who never remembered he was the senpai. The young man in the driver’s seat was making a deliberate point of keeping his eyes on the road, but the way his fingers drummed the sides of the steering wheel gave him away. He was nervous.
It made Kazuya nervous too.
“Do you like me?”
“Of course I do. You’re great fun to hang out with.”
“No I mean like as in...love like.”
Oh.
OH!
The rumbling of the car radio seemed to dim and fade until there was nothing but a great buzzing of static in Kazuya’s ears. Beside him, Tsukuba’s grip on the steering wheel had gotten very tight indeed.
“Look, Tsukuba san, I like you as a friend, very much so, and I’m sure that whoever you choose to date would be incredibly lucky. But I personally don’t feel that way towards you, and it would be nice if we stayed as just friends. Quickly, almost habitually because people had a tendency to blow up at him when he said something they didn’t like, he added, “Sorry.”
A long moment of silence passed. The scratching of the radio was beginning to hurt Kazuya’s head.
Then Tsukuba laughed.
“Oh that’s such a relief. I don’t love like you either by the way. You’re my friend, and I too think we’re fine just the way we were.”
Kazuya, despite being accomplished in quite a few fields, was hopelessly outmatched when it came to understanding the intricacies of the human mind. Even when he did exactly what he thought the other person wanted, somehow the results always turned out...different.
“Wait what?”
Tsukuba rolled his eyes, instantly back to his usual playful self. “Well, while you were away, Hongo san and Kazami san spent all year dropping hints about how terrible it would be to be alone forever and of course I kept telling them I don’t feel that way about you at all like not in the slightest but then I thought about it some more and I thought well maybe you had a secret crush on me or something so I had to ask.”
Kazuya found himself laughing too. That was the way with Tsukuba. He had such good cheer that you couldn’t help but smile.
“You really couldn’t have asked me this sooner?”
“Prez says I need to cool it with the international calls or pay the overseas charges myself soooo...” Tsukuba grinned. “Also I had to ask you in person so you wouldn’t misunderstand something and assume I was coming onto you.”
“You really don’t mind? You’re not just saying this stuff so I wouldn’t feel weird?”
“Nah, before they landed on you they tried to ask me if I liked any of the Blanker girls or the hang gliding club girls and when I said no, Kazami san started talking about how it was okay if I liked guys instead.” Tsukuba blinked, his grin falling slightly as he glanced sideways at Kazuya. “Just between you and me, I think Hongo san has some sort of trauma response to the idea of being alone so usually when he wants to talk about this stuff I just nod and go mmhmm. It makes him feel better if he thinks he’s helping.”
All Kazuya could do was nod and go mmhmm.

Enjoying the Kazuyer buffs in patch 1.05 so far!
df+1,4 is a very nice 15f punish if you're not ready to electric (or they recover crouching) -- you can wavu into ff+4 for a guaranteed 48 damage into oki, or run up stomp, which does 51 damage and is slightly easier execution. You can also do df+1,4 DEMON SCISSORS (the 4~3 flipover kick), which also does 51 and is funnier.
cd+1+2 ("Parricide Fist" although lots of people say "Patricide" and that's what he used it for) does a lot of damage and it's plus on block -- pretty good combo tool! folks are using it as an early screw, get those big hits early in the combo. It is possible to do it after two electrics, doing it right after ws2 seems consistent.
ws+1+2 now has a bigger hitbox, meaning you can easily do it off many launchers, including EWGF, ws2 and ff3.
1,1,2 and df+1 and b+1 now have bigger, more consistent hitboxes! 1,1,2 , I had seen that whiff a lot more than it should have, before the patch, and combos with df+1 are supposed to be more consistent -- I guess I haven't had any surprising drops in the past day.
It's now possible to do EWGF EWGF dash EWGF microdash df+1,df+2 T! , but this is harder than the analogous T7 combo. I'll keep working it. That one Swedish guy is doing it reliably, so it is possible. I think I'm not hitting the microdash clean enough.
... is Kazuya the strongest Mishima character in Tekken 8 now maybe? ... I'll tell you -- I don't know. But he feels good.

i loveeeeee all the weird fucked up bugman stuff in black so far i think it's really cool. i'm not immune to things being a little edgy sometimes. you can do a lot with a little body horror imo. it's also so wild watching kotaro go through actual borg angst after hiroshi "[shatters a glass] [shrugs] not gonna let that ruin my day" tsukuba and kazuya "my only angst is that i'm not borg enough" oki. and ZX who was also there

On this 2024/01/25 I figured I should take a moment and articulate my thoughts and feelings coming into Tekken 8 later tonight. I can see a world in which Tekken 8, despite doing it all right, repeats history like T4. But to start with the optimism. The arcades look wonderful, I had so much fun trying it in the Demo, and I look forwards to seeing if the game manages to help players come from button mashing-> thinking about their neutral -> using all 3 dimensions available. Or at least more use of the plane. -> More player choice here. But ultimately the game still needs to teach combos and frame traps and setups to their players. But these... Are complex concepts to understand, or are mechanically demanding tasks that require practice and development. In this regard the training arena at least looks incredibly promising. Learning how you lost in Tekken 8, and what might have been possible combined with their replay system revamp. I saw what this did in Starcraft 2, and short of being able to recontrol the game with 2 players, it is incredibly similar. The game of course, looks and feels amazing, smooth fluid Tekken gameplay all the way down, but of course this is the part of the game that BNE has established in the early 00's. But this is where I get into my fears. Heat and chip. Playing some of the demo, and to clarify I do not mean the crack (my raven ass has been playing Kazuya I can show the ghost.) Heat is amazing. It has minor elements of bursts re guilty gear, but they remind me more of reversal guards from Soul calibur 6 after some time recently replaying that. And in that comparison really does draw some alarm, especially considering they were not that well received there either. However my fear is not with the heat engagement so much, I think heat will prove to be much more invaluable in combos. I know in the CBT with Raven using 3+2 to get an extra tornado inbetween something akin to fF3 fF4 tornado and a 41bt4 or b242 can lead to insane wall carry and damage. With Kazuya changing my combo from df3 df1DF2 and adding in heat burst to fF2f allowed me to still throw in whichever ender I wanted. This meant that a launch near half could result in a death between the added damage, wall carry and potential wall combo/oki. This combined with the impact of chip are my two main concenrs. As it stands there are 3 major chip categories I have seen from my play and the community. First is the non-existant impact. A game where the chip damage never matters, it plays out with little impact because either 50/50's are hitting, the recoverable health is not being capitalized on, or your landing mostly clean hits instead of combos or counters and it has little impact. Secondly while I did not play the CNT, the utility of oppressive moves, with crazy on hit 50/50's with lots of chip made their MU's incredibly difficult and forced more movement. While I like Tekken because of it's movement, these matchups were toxic in their forcing your hand to fear a tactic that already gave you disadvantage. However the interest in chip has hit, there have been games I have had where we both get low, with recoverable health, and the battle becomes much tighter because of it. But I feel like this is more of an issue with casual Tekken anyways. Where players do not want to do slow things because they are less flashy. I think Tekken 8 has the promise to really help players who want to learn and ge elbow deep into the meat of Tekken do this. I think the fear however is that getting elbow deep into Tekken is a death knell for the game that requires it.

Caught in the deadly vortex between "I need to be up early for work so I need to sleep" and "I can't sleep yet there is work to finish for tomorrow."
You know those videos of someone getting sick oki reads in Tekken? That's me, I'm stuck in Kazuya's wall mixups and can't stop eating hellsweeps.

This is all true but the most important thing to me is that this man labelled his bike OKI KAZUYA KAMEN RIDER SUPER-1 and then tried to maintain a secret identity
I feel like we as a community don't talk about Super-1's bikes enough.

V Machine: Very cute :) reminds me of the Cyclone's aesthetic more than some of the other Rider's bikes in a way I really like. The red accents look really good with Super-1's suit! Good bike.

V Jet: Now this is a nice upgrade form. Bigger and fancier, but still keeping the design's charms. Buttons! It's labeled with his name! The front gives it kind of a moth wing like silhouette!

Blue Version: First of all. 10/10 name. Second, the slimmer build gives it a really nice contrast with Mr. V Machine and matches nicely with the some of the other Rider's bikes like Hurricane or Kabutoro!
