#okay but dean is kinda the whole reason crowley died

@kimberleyjean ok, you asked for this, its cursed and I'm sorry.
So first off I'm NOT going to try to explain what Supernatural is. Its a garbage fire, and I am unfortunate enough to be one of the feral, touch-starved gays to live in said garbage fire. Its the best show ever but all of its accidental, its the worst show ever in terms of anything that was done on purpose, etc etc. You're on tumblr you know the drill
Anyway, before GOs2's "Final Fifteen", the ONLY connections between GO and SPN were:
A demon in spn is named Crowley, in an homage to GO Crowley. They are alike, but they are NOT the same character and I don't think it can be argued that they're the same person in different forms (bc with demons that would be possible). They are however both Scottish, greasy and have a deep disrespect for authority. I do HAVE a theory/hc connecting the two Crowleys but that's another post for another day. Weirdly, SPN!Crowley (who I'm going to call Fergus from here on out, bc even though nobody in spn or the fandom calls him that, it is his canonical first name) has very little to do with anything I'm about to say. Just fyi, he exists.
Secondly, The Hillywood show did a Supernatural parody back in 2014-ish. I will link it below if you're curious, but again not much in this video is ACTUALLY RELEVANT to what I'm about to say (however, Fergus is there. He's the Scottish guy)
youtube
However, the specific arcs of Supernatural that SURROUND the season/topic this parody is centered on (Mark of Cain arc, ~s9-10) are where the coincidences get weird, and ok now I do have to talk about Supernatural a bit.
mmmfffff. Okay so the Metatron is a greasy, annoying, manipulative, power-hungry bastard who lies every time he speaks, wants full rule over Heaven and will control anyone and wreck anything he can to get there....
...and I'm talking about the version of the Metatron from Supernatural. LONG tldr, Dean (buzz cut, older brother, guy who's in love with an angel, the guy who says the news headlines in the Destiel meme) takes this thing/curse/whole other mess called the "Mark of Cain" to kill this kinda super-powerful arch-demon called Abaddon (more on her later), and blah blah blah Supernatural Happens For A Bit, and due to the Mark's curse making Dean act like a total psycho (and also, its implied, slowly turning him into a demon) they try to get help from the Metatron, who had been locked up after... well.
-when God was no longer contacting heaven, Metatron ran away from Heaven and hid on earth because he thought that the angels would use the Word of God (which the Metatron holds) "wrong" or something
-later, took advantage of strife & power vacuums in Heaven to manipulate Cas (angel, deeply autistic, the guy who says "I love you" in the destiel meme, in love with Dean) into doing a spell that CAUSED ALL OF THE ANGELS IN HEAVEN TO FALL, for no reason other than the Metatron is an actual pissbaby.
anyway, Metatron claims he can help Dean, that was a lie (shocking, I know), Metatron pulls some bs including basically stealing Cas' life-force (a second time. the first time was when he was ALREADY fucking w Cas as mentioned above) and runs off back to heaven... along with Gadreel, who he has manipulated/convinced to help him take power in Heaven.
who's Gadreel?
well. he's the angel who let the Serpent (or in this canon, just Lucifer) into the Garden of Eden, and he was cast into Hell to be tortured forever or something as punishment. However, after Metatron's earlier all-the-angels-falling scheme, Gadreel (for reasons I'm not too sure of tbh) took the name/identity of a VERY highly-regarded and powerful angel named Ezekiel, who died of his injuries during the fall
^this last part is a detail I try hard not to think about. this is because the names and roles are JUST similar enough to GO's Ineffable Husbands for the implications make me very, very sad.
Anyway, Gadreel had been around spn canon before, posing as Ezekiel, possessing Sam blah blah blah shit happened
Anyway this is a whole lot of words to say that the season/s of SPN that The Hillywood Show was parodying were the seasons where the Metatron was a main villain, and attempted/temporarily succeeded in taking power in Heaven BY MANIPULATING THE GUY WHO LET THE DEVIL INTO THE GARDEN OF EDEN
and then The Hillywood Show (who tbh I almost feel bad for lmao like BRUH) got signed to produce the parody/teaser/release date announcement for GOs2. Where the Metatron...
yeah.
yeahhhhhh
I would have LOVED to see the Hillywood Show team's live and immediate reaction to the Final Fifteen because I can't even imagine what must have been going through their heads.
ah yes. the FUCKING Metatron
oh also in spn, the Metatron (its complicated but basically)severely/fatally wounds Cas, and straight-up KILLS Dean, but Dean resurrects as a demon (for a few eps at least), meaning that Metatron DID technically try, and almost succeeded in, killing both members of an angel/demon gay couple, if only bc timing lined up so that Metatron was an antagonist in the arcs where Dean was turning into a demon.
so yeah
anyway I mentioned we'd get back to Abaddon so here's those major spoilers I mentioned. I'm fairly sure these are real spoilers and not theories, since my source is wikipedia
Tumblr media
that's the whole article, there's not much else on her on wiki (though I should really do more research on Muriel). I think I heard Neil say somewhere that he created Muriel because "he wanted an angel character, from Heaven, who was 'just nice'" but idk if anything specific has ever been said about her name.
anyway that's why the Metatron gave Muriel that book "The Crow Road" in the Final 15, why he likes her so much, and why he's having her stay on earth
"The Crow Road" is a book about the nature of Death, and Metatron is, for lack of a better/less problematic word, grooming Muriel for the role of angel of Death in the apocalypse (Abaddon being a VERY prominent figure in revelations, for those who weren't aware)
...so on top of all the other Supernatural/Hillywood-Specific coincidences, sure, let's have Abaddon too.
uhhhhh
yeah

supernatural s14e10 nihilism (w. steve yockey)
was thinking about this yesterday, how crowley popped in to cas when lucifer had him locked up, and how they might try to manage something like that for dean
is that pam?? ugh i really liked her. wish she could have stuck around. weird how hrm. having feelings about this idea that sam and dean could even have something like this bar. like, an established place for them that wasn't underground in this weird sterile bougie bunker, but something that actually fits them. be up and around people, even if they're still hunting. so is this supposed to be like the djinn format, where it's taking his dream and trapping him?
DEAN How come you always have a boyfriend? PAMELA How come you only want what you can't have? DEAN Whoa. PAMELA Besides, you don't want me. You just like to flirt. I'm a psychic, so I kinda know.
cute and legit
the unfortunate monster teeth on this vampire made it so it's very obviously adr'd in when he's talking. maybe go back to just the occasional flashing of fangs with cg, guys 🥴
SAM Billie -- uh, uh, Death assigned a reaper to keep an eye on Dean and me. Her name is Jessica, and she is always -- WOMAN Hello. SAM Where's Jessica? WOMAN Well, my name's Violet. It's my shift. We have shifts now, because you mess up so, so many things.
cute and legit x2
SAM Okay, look, sorry, but we're stuck, okay? And Death owes us one after we fixed that whole Rowena thing. You know about that, right? VIOLET Oh, yes, the Rowena thing you started.
not sure i know about it though (have to consult the wiki) :S oh god, right. when rowena was trying to get crowley back. the great characterization flip flops of crowley, rowena and ketch
SAM Okay, listen. Back when Gadreel possessed me, he -- he created, uh, I don't know, like a -- like a fake world inside my head. But Crowley was able to force his way in, he showed me how to take control, and I drove the angel out.
oh, wait. did crowley do that twice? apparently so. i very distinctly remembered cas watching tv while crowley was trying to get him to cooperate lol. forgot he got in there for gadreel too
Tumblr media
MICHAEL Yes, uh, put a chair against the door. That'll help. Nothing's changed. Either my monsters get here, or I break these chains. But tonight...everybody dies. And, Sam? The last thing you'll see is this pretty smile...as I rip you apart.
he's giving me keanu vibes again with his speaking voice/cadence as michael
SAM It's the, uh, messed up British Men of Letters thing they used to get inside people's heads. I figure if I can get in, maybe I can wake Dean up, get him to fight, you know, to force Michael out.
we're just gonna bring up a million things i have basically zero recollection of. ah yes, the thing that enabled the conversation with brainwashed-mary where dean told her that he had to be sam's mother, father, and brother. the conversation, i remember. context? nada
well i was asking where all the apocalypse world people and there they are. not sure why they're putting maggie at point of this operation but okay. we don't know anyone else and jim beaver isn't in this episode? lol
michael's daddy issues putting everyone's to shame. burn the multiverse to the ground
Tumblr media
CASTIEL So much trauma in Dean's mind. So many scars. SAM Well, yeah. Dean's been through a lot, but he's strong. CASTIEL Sam...you've both been through a lot, and Dean is more than strong. What I meant was, if I knew...if I knew what I was looking for, I could just -- I could simply go to it. But because Michael has Dean trapped away, drowning, I have to wade through all of Dean's most terrible memories. SAM Cass, wait a second. Would Michael bury Dean in trauma? CASTIEL What do you mean? SAM I mean, Michael said it himself. The reason he left Dean in the first place was because Dean was fighting back so hard. CASTIEL So, if Michael wanted to keep Dean placated... SAM Dean thrives on trauma. I mean, he's had to his whole life, right? It keeps him alert, keeps him ready, but if I wanted to distract Dean, I-I... I'd give him something he's never had before. CASTIEL Contentment.
haha 🥲
this browsing through dean's traumatic and good memories, someone very nicely has them identified to episodes on the wiki
MICHAEL You don't mean that, Dean, not really. You may lie to them, but, deep down, I know you. I am you. You only tolerate the angel because you think you owe him, because he "gripped you tight and raised you from Perdition." Or whatever. But since then, what has he done? Only made mistakes, one after the other.
he kind of mocked cas's voice there and it's funny to me how he couldn't really pull it off in the way like.. if pellegrino did that line, totally would have worked. but to me, jackles's michael it just wasn't really hitting the right note :p
MICHEL And, Sam -- oh, Sam... You know, Dean was his happiest when you quit hunting, leaving him with your dad, just the two of them. See, deep down, he knows that you will always abandon him, again and again.
feels like it's been a long time since we thought about dean's insecurity over sam leaving. maybe like when sam found out about gadreel? i dunno. anyway. obviously just trying to get a rise out of him but i think these days they're pretty secure with each other in that respect.
glad they clarified via lecture from cas that jack used the soul magic to invoke the angel powers to zap the monsters because i didn't get that
Tumblr media
locking michael in the fridge in your mind is going well i see
Tumblr media
well of all the rehabbed characters, i'm glad for billie. since her hatred of them never really made much sense anyway
DEAN Rescuing Mom and Jack, helping out those other folks -- I'd say it was worth it. BILLIE And just look at you now. Do you remember visiting my reading room? The shelves and shelves of notebooks describing the ways you might die? DEAN Yeah. Upbeat classics. BILLIE Well, it's the funniest thing, but they've all been rewritten. They all end the same way now -- with the archangel Michael escaping your mind and using you as his vessel to burn down this world. DEAN All of them? BILLIE All of them. Except one.
is it a picture of rebar. is it some suicidal bullshit? hmm. get stabbed by lucifer wielding the archangel blade?

For your ask - 2, 7, 8 :)
Hi!! Thanks for the ask ❤ and I'm already sorry for the excessive rambling about to do 😂
2. Agreements - this one is a crossover between Spn and Teen Wolf. Sterek, Destiel, and a hell of a lot of other ships. Have had this idea for a year, but idk if I’ll ever write it soon. Or ever. Idk. But I have it all outlined, 14 chapters and all, in my notebook.
So let's get the basic down for this one: ABO, Royalty, Ensemble Cast. Like really. I tried to fit as many characters as possible—from both Supernatural and Teen Wolf. It was hard, but I did it!! I think I did a good job too 😂
I tried finding the notebook I wrote the whole outline in but uhhhh I didn't find it, so I'll have to recount everything from my very bad memory. I hadn't thought of this idea in so long actually lmao, I literally just saw the doc and went: "Ohhhhhhhh."
Anyways. The idea is this: There's unrest in the Kingdoms, like it originates from the Hale Kingdom—Triskelle—and flows around to Arch (Archangels + Angels aka the Novak fam's Kingdom), Lawrence (Winchesters + Stilinski's; Winchesters are Royal Fam while the Stilinski's are important members of the council) and a few others. I told you I tried to have many characters as possible, okay, I have made many Kingdoms 😂
See, this unrest is because of the War looming over them all that has been going on for years, and obviously the Argent's Kingdom is the initiator of the war. The sudden increase in tension is because the Hales' Palace burns down to the ground. Wonder how that happened. And also John Winchesters dies in the battle, because yes lmao. But that's bad for Lawrence, they're small and they're dwindling down in numbers very fast. Cue Mary agreeing to marry herself off in a bid for power to Crowley—Dean tries to take her place because he's also an Omega, but that doesn't happen. Mary had already once married for the sake of the people, she can do it again if it means that her children can find the love that she couldn't.
That's the main theme for the fic: forging alliances through marriage. It's all very "for my [kingdom]" but they all find love along the way. Well, mostly. There's also death... but that's uhhh a controversial character anyways.
Okay, so, Arch is the most powerful kingdom, right, and the remaining Hales—Derek, Peter, Cora, Malia + Lydia—set off for there. Coincidentally, Derek and Stiles + Charlie and Adam (Dean and Stiles and Adam are Omegas, so Charlie (Dean's twin, and the eldest Winchester sibling) goes as the "protector" just to appease John Stilinski (these kids can't keep secrets smh)) are also going to Arch, and they all meet.
They're vary of each other, of course. Charlie and Lydia (endgame) passive-aggressively flirt; Derek's "involvement" in the fire comes out after it comes out who they are; Derek and Stiles befriend each other while Dean activates his older sibling mode and glares at Derek all the while. The others are just along for the ride lmao. Then for some reason they split; can't remember why exactly, but then Peter and Malia meet Chris and Allison (past Petopher was a thing), and tension just keeps on building as new apparent secrets comes out to the readers.
It's all Very Soap Opera Type, actually. But in the end everyone is happy and the Bad Argents are dead and ohmigod I love this idea so much but I don't wanna butcher what little I remember of it so I'll just end here lol. But yeah, this includes possibly every trope ever and it's kinda like all over the place? But whatever I seriously love this idea and now I wanna write this someday 😭
7. Prompt: Stiles & Derek leave BH after Monroe stuff
Okay this one is easier!! Thank God lol.
@deepestbelieverstranger sent me the prompt, and so far I've written very little for this, but rest assured Monroe is dead (thank you Lydia) and the Sheriff is sending Derek and Stiles out of BH before he follows them. Lydia and Jordan might come too.
It's basically Sterek realizing about their feelings and working through their traumas and building a quiet life together.
8. Prompt: 5 + 1 Fic - 5 times Derek showed he loves Stiles and 1 time Stiles showed that he loves Derek
This one is for @raisesomehale!! She asked for a 5 + 1 Fic and this idea has been in my head for some time now.
1. Derek notices Stiles' absence from the Pack
2. Derek brings lunch to Stiles at work
3. Derek lets Stiles snap at him
4. Derek forgives Stiles (with some sass)
5. Derek tells Stiles not to come to fight the MOTW
+ 1. Stiles takes a bullet near his heart that was meant for Derek. (cue love confession scene)

#they were so alike #and they cared about each other in their own damaged way #that's why if anyone could have saved Crowley #it would have been Dean#crowley deserved better (via @demonologist-in-denim)
"You are the only person who has ever looked at the ruins of my soul and hasn't flinched" is gold tier ship dynamic but "I have seen you in your whole fucked up glory, and I have seen that you are just like me" is SO good too

THE ROAD SO FAR
So, this is the first time I literally don't care about what happens
I genuinely don't think this season finale will be exciting or satisfying or surprising or a good cliffhanger, this season finale has nothing to offer, because this season just killed all of its story lines
NOW
Sam and Cas now
Sam went from "I didn't look for a way to bring you back from Purgatory" to "I will risk EVERYTHING to save you", 100% unbelievable and doesn't make any sense
Cas is trying to be reasonable and evaluate risks and Sam just, doesn't care apparently
When did Sam fucking switch? I liked when it was "Reverse situation, you would gave done the same." "No."
*****
Dean is working cases alone
Being a fucking asshole to cops
oh, to Rudy too apparently
*****
Rowena again, for FUCK'S SAKE
you kill Charlie after only like four episodes but you force us to witness this fucking witch for 5 or 6 fucking seasons??? 😠
*****
Dean is a fucking asshole, and very direct
But it's interesting because we see how psychologically fucked up he is, with the Mark
*****
I have nothing to say
I'm like fully disconnected from this
*****
Dean got Rudy killed
cool 🙄
*****
Oh, seeing Cas like that didn't help, did it
or Rudy
wow
Dean's going seriously insane
*****
Cas is calling Crowley, uh
HE HAD TO SUMMON BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE HIS PHONE NUMBER 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Crowley's making Castiel beg
just for fun
That's my man, King of Hell
Crowley was hesitating there, I think he wondered why Castiel was so determined to help, and then he understood
*****
Dean gave Sam his car, uh
and now he's? summoning something
someone
Death
He'll ask to die, won't he
yeah
I would have done the same thing
Death can't even kill Dean
Okay so apparently there was Darkness before everything...
Lucifer had the mark, passed it to Cain, passed it to Dean...
So they need the mark to remain, to keep the Darkness away
that makes sense
Death will teleport Dean somewhere, away, to make sure no one's in danger
and now Dean is saying goodbye
*****
Damn Crowley, that's a fucking Grand Entrance if I've ever seen one
*****
Sam has a point, this doesn't make any sense
none of this makes sense
remember how I said I stopped watching because the big story, the big picture thing, just doesn't make sense anymore? how it's TOO big?
well, it just got worse
*****
So they'll do the spell now, right? and then what? darkness is unleashed and darkness is the evil for next season?
*****
How did ANYONE keep watching after this? it's, like, seriously painful to watch
not because it's like, sad or something
it's painful because... what have they done to my show? oh how they've ruined the amazing show they'd created in season 1, the show that was so epic and interesting about lore and myths and legends and the supernatural??
I miss Wendigo, man
I miss fighting demons, and Lucifer, and even fucking Leviathans in some way
anything that isn't about
*****
So now Dean's gonna kill Sam
there's like a whole discussion and Sam's speech and all that and I truly cannot comprehend how they fucked up so bad that I genuinely don't care that Dean is killing Sam
I cried when Sam died in season 2
and now I don't care
how is that even possible
*****
wow, did Dean reap the ultimate reaper? did Dean kill Death?
🤷🏽‍♀️
who knows
*****
So, it was the first option then
they removed the mark
main three is still alive
*****
I miss when angels were all powerful, and Crowley was badass but funny
I enjoy Crowley begging Castiel not to kill him, but I hate Rowena being more powerful than them
*****
so, uh, the Darkness
🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
when you run out of ideas for villains so your protagonist is fighting literal 'darkness' now
*****
It does seem though
and this is just hopeful me talking, so it probably won't happen
but
it does seem like now they will have one COMMON enemy and they'll start working TOGETHER again
kinda like with Leviathans
I think 🤷🏽‍♀️
I don't know
hopefully

I have been through this journey before, so I get to be actually frustrated about it.
IUnder a read more because im not subjecting y’all to this. Also: I should caveat I haven’t watched the episode cause I’m waiting till its on Netflix but I have watched way too many other episodes of Supernatural so I have a right to say these things.
TL;DR: I mean you all knew Cas’ confession was fucking bullshit and that SPN is...hm. But I’d like to actually express my genuine frustration, for a moment? I’m going to say things you already know, but I have too much knowledge of this show and too much stupid meta in my brain about a series I haven’t genuinely enjoyed for at least 5 years which makes this not just blandly bad but disgustingly insulting to me not even as a gay just as like. A writer?
Or, even shorter: Cas’ confession is just a Charlie Bradbury Speedrun
So. As some of you may know if, for some reason, you followed me back in 2013 (and till...okay fine 2015), I used to be, uh. Really into SPN. Really, I was into Destiel. Like, as in, I slogged through seasons 1-3 to get to Cas and am also really vulnerable to the Sunk Cost Fallacy and projecting onto characters. (I was in 8th grade in 2013, okay? Get off my back)
Also, because I monopolised use of the TV, I kind of...also got my parents into it? In a “this is silly but fun” kind of way.
Over time, critiques of the show from viewers, learning what queerbaiting is at all, fatigue with how long it was going, and also fatigue from how characters I enjoyed, like Rufus, or Crowley, or Ellen, or Jo, or Kevin, or Charlie, or Cas a few times, kept getting killed off. As time went on, it didn’t escape my notice that, aside from Cas, all of these characters fit one or more of the following criteria:
They were a woman
They were a person of color
Were Queer or Queer-coded in some way (listen Crowley was bad rep but at least Mark Sheppard actually kissed a man on screen)
I also just...generally got tired of the way the show treats women and sidelines people of color.
The final straw really came with Charlie’s death. It got us all excited, because she hadn’t been back in a bit! And it was interesting to see how reuniting with her dark side from Oz had changed her! (yeah remember the fucking Wizard of Oz storyline? The writers sure don’t!) And maybe she’d get developed! Because at this point, Charlie and the fairly good writing of her character was a major upside for the series! Charlie was cool, fun, gay, and morally complex in a way...none of the female characters had been before her, in large part because by definition, her relationship with the boys would always be platonic.
And then. Offscreen. She is violently murdered. For no damn good reason. Like, literally, her being brought back in this episode after fucking off to europe after having returned from fucking off to Oz seems to have filled two purposes in total.
The codex is solved (but Sam doesn’t know till next episode)
Charlie is dead, which means Dean can be angry, specifically at Sam, and kill more people because he’s the big bad this season.
That’s it. Two things. Twooooo whole reasons to do this episode. Whoopee.
But you didn’t come here for this, you came here for me to rip this reveal to shreds. Don’t worry, I’ll get there. What I want in your minds is that Supernatural already had a really good anddynamic queer character. And then they killed her off to make Dean angry. No, it doesn’t matter that they brought her back in season 13 or whatever. They made that decision.
After the rage this incited, I started realizing general flaws in the writing (I had probably already noticed them but now I was angry enough to complain.) Every conflict is born of Sam and Dean not communicating/taking on burdens and Dean being angry at Cas for reasons that ranged from good to ridiculous, but in a way that always went way too fucking long, (which...yes, does make the “you do it for love” gifs fucking hilarious). It didn’t help that seasons 11 and 12 were next, which meant Demon Dean and GOD’S FUCKING SISTER, plus the decision to resurrect Mary, which, while I do like her later scenes, as a season 12 finale it...well I’ll be honest it kinda sucked. It undercut the majority of the Winchester’s’ arcs and their slow and painful journey out of their father’s toxic vengeance quest and knowing Mary as a person when it’s too late to know her was one of the last semi-compelling grounders of the narrative.
By this point it was a hate-watch for my parents and I.
So then, I’m at college, and I’m not watching anymore cause I don’t have the motivation or access to Hulu to continue, and SPN is bad. I watch the Scooby Doo crossover when it comes out and my friend and I make fun of it, and we also continue making jokes about Dean and Cas and queerbaiting because we’re queer, but I don’t keep up. My Dad does though, so when I return, I watch some with the fam and lads. It’s even more tiring without context.
So flash forward to Quarantine, my sister, the only one with taste, has left, and we have run out of netflix to watch. So we return to the well, and seasons 13-14 are. I’m gonna say it. Bad. Really fucking bad. The cycle of bad communication continues, season 14 has like seven antagonists and the way it’s structured makes it so I literally cannot remember the timeline of a season I watched 3 months ago. Oh also, they have a queer coded cannibal snake monster for...well I guess Jack’s snake bud was cool but like. Huh wow it’s almost like these writers don’t handle queers well.
Our one saving grace is Cas, but he’s barely in any episodes, though I did note that his deal with the empty, being happy completely for one moment killing him, that struck me as “this has potential and I know they’re gonna half-ass it somehow.” Also Jack and Mary, but then oh...plot….The most compelling it gets is literally the finale.
But then, 3 days later, the first half of season 15 comes out on Netflix and it’s...actually kind of acceptable. The new character they give Jack’s actor is fun to watch him play until they make him evil. Exploring just how toxic Chuck can be gave the series direction again. The alternate future was genuinely scarring, and Eileen’s return was genuinely moving. Most of all, though, Cas got the opportunity to tell Dean no, that Dean was being unfair to him, had always been unfair to him, and he was sick of it. I had no illusions, I knew Destiel was never gonna happen, and Cas was gonna die, but giving him that bit of agency, letting Cas grow and be self-sufficient, and be angry with Dean not for existential reasons but interpersonal ones, was such a good sign for me, and Dean grew too! Dean fucking apologized for being horrible and Jensen Ackles had a...yknow what, ill give it to him, he had a good acting moment.
But the thing. About. The “I love you.”
Let’s take it in parts.
What was good: I’m gonna admit it, lads, “Wanting what I can’t have” - AS A LINE - is good, and, structurally, there is something to the Empty Deal that could have been an interesting aspect of Cas’ arc when it comes to self actualization and being on even footing with Dean. The problem is, this is Supernatural, and that arc only comes up when I bring it up because character study, even in bad media, is fun for me.
What was bad:
I mean. Like. All of it? All of it.
Okay. Fine. I’ll be specific.
Cas dies immediately when - possibly because- he is revealed as having feelings for Dean. They kill him as they queer him, that’s a Bury Your Gays Speedrun right there.
Like the least they could have done is have him mention it to someone in another scene or something to establish some romantic feelings on the part of canon a full episode beforehand. That would have been the literal bare minimum.
When Cas starts praising Dean, for some reason both the writing and Misha’s acting take a bit of a downswing (from...where it already was). Cas, whose most powerful moment this season was acknowledging that Dean’s anger at him is cruel and unfair, flatly praises him for doing everything out of love and it reads with a misunderstanding of both Dean as a character and Cas’ understanding of Dean. Dean is angry! VERY ANGRY! And it’s a problem he needs to work on and rarely does.
Talking out of my ass, a better speech would have been about how Dean is angry because of his love for Sam, family, and the people around him, how, for better or for worse, he can’t help but be angry on behalf of others, and that his journey of moving that tendency towards the better is what made Cas care so much. Guys this alteration to the metaphor took 2 minutes to write tops I am an Art History student and these are TV WRITERS WITH YEARS OF EXPERIENCE CAN YOU TELL THEYRE NOT TRYING YET?
A better speech would, of course, have come out of a better series. My point: this part was half-assed. Poorly written. Wow it’s almost like the series is also poorly written.
Also, Misha is the better actor of the three(***OF THE THREE), but his choices in that scene are jarringly out of character which. Makes the bad writing worse. It doesn’t help that they cut to the same fucking shot of Dean 3 times. The chemistry in that scene makes it feel so fucking hackneyed. Because it is.
This combines lead me to the point: (wait there was a point to this?)
As someone who does not have the luxury of watching this capsized ship fall into boiling seas from a distance, it is less insulting to me that they did this so last minute and then sent Cas to the Void than it is how they did it. They had ingredients for something that could have been compelling enough to me as a former fan of the show to think that they had put effort into it, that they had decided months, perhaps even years ago to do this, and had crafted a storyline around it. That this was an intentional decision they cared about. It wasn’t. It was barely even pandering, because it’s almost insultingly blatant.
SPN kinda proved to me that it didn’t care about queers when Charlie was killed off. It proved it to me again when Cas, not only died in confessing his love for Dean but did it in the weakest result of what could have been a surprisingly strong story.

Today on the TNT loop, we went through 9.10, 9.11, and 9.12, and it was a lot, considering the themes of what’s happening in current canon while waiting for 15.05 to air tonight.
Full disclosure, I started typing up this post this morning while watching 9.10, and then my computer helpfully did a windows update and restarted itself, so I lost everything I’d been typing. It wasn’t too much, but heck if I can actually remember what I’d written exactly, but I think looking at all three of these episodes together is possibly more useful anyway, so here we go.
We’ve just been talking about 9.10 and the “imaginary” cheerleader case Gadreel had Sam working on inside his own mind, in relation to the vampire case Sam and Dean worked in 15.04, so we’re already primed to look deeper at what was going on in this episode. For anyone who doesn’t recall, this was ALSO the episode during which Dean completely confessed to a freshly re-angeled Cas exactly why he’d kicked him out of the bunker back in 9.03.
At that time, Dean was being horrifically manipulated by the angel he’d trusted on false pretenses and Cas’s word, in a perfect storm with his own desperation to do anything to save Sam. It took this long for Dean to realize the full extent of Gadreel’s betrayal, and it led directly to Kevin’s death.
So we have manipulation, a larger cosmic power essentially holding Sam hostage, Dean and Cas finally mending this situation between them and confessing the truth and the reasons behind the lies and anger. Obviously the situation is not exactly the same in s15, but the themes are all there. Here, have a few quotes from the episode to show you what I mean.
[DEAN stops his packing and his face melts in emotion as he looks to his friend. Camera pans behind CASTIEL's back and when it comes out on his other side the men are sitting at the table and DEAN has just told CASTIEL the long, hurtful story.]
DEAN:Sammy was dying. What was I supposed to do? CASTIEL: You let an angel possess him? DEAN: He said it was the only way, and I believed him. Now Sam's gone. Kevin's... CASTIEL: Dean, I'm sorry. DEAN: Yeah, well... Sorry don't pay the bills, does it? It sure as hell ain't gonna bring Kevin back. We got to find that son of a bitch. CASTIEL: Dean. If the angel possessing Sam isn't Ezekiel, then who is it? DEAN: A dead man walking. CASTIEL: What, you're gonna destroy him? DEAN: Damn right. CASTIEL: You kill an angel, its vessel dies, too. DEAN: Think I don't know that? If I don't end Sam and that halo burns him out and I... God, I was so damn stupid. CASTIEL: You were stupid for the right reasons. DEAN: Yeah, like that matters. CASTIEL: It does. Sometimes that's all that matters.
They’re still not completely getting to the heart of this issue, though, because there was still Plot™ to deal with that would require them to have this unresolved-- Dean would need to continue to blame himself for everything, Cas would need to feel compelled to stay by Sam’s side to ensure his healing, feeling that he could be “useful” to Dean by taking over Sam Protection Detail, and Sam will need to fully feel the betrayal and not even begin to understand the core issue that led to all of this in the first place to drive that wedge deep enough for Dean to take the Mark, sacrificing himself to protect the ones he loves.
Which is thematically what Cas felt he did trading his own life for Jack’s in 14.08, which of course Dean still doesn’t know about. But the most important thing underlying all this s9 drama is the element of manipulation. Because Dean (and Sam, and Cas) right now believe they are making their own choices in a world without Chuck’s influence, and yet the narrative as a whole is probably being more actively manipulated by Chuck than at any time in their history. It’s this unawareness that’s giving Chuck’s influence the power to manipulate them in the first place.
GADREEL spits out angrily:  How many more lives do I have to take? METATRON: It's not your place to ask questions. It is your place to obey. You want to be my second in command? Prove you're ready. Prove you're loyal. Or don't. Walk away. Go back to being Gadreel the traitor, the sap, heaven's longest-running joke.
Aah, and all along Gadreel had been manipulated by Metatron, s9′s answer to s15′s Chuck.
GADREEL: You have changed, Abner. ABNER: Yeah, well, I was a crappy angel. I was petulant. I deserted my post. I spent 700 years in heaven's lockup. I... No. Doesn't matter. We're a long way from Thaddeus now. GADREEL: I killed him, Abner. I got our revenge. ABNER: I w – I wish you hadn't done that. GADREEL: But why? He tortured us – you most of all. ABNER: I remember. And I remember you were always there to put me back together. GADREEL: We were friends. ABNER: We are friends. And the fall, it's our second chance. We can forget our old hates, who we were. GADREEL: It's not that easy. ABNER: Yes, it is. Look at me. I'm happy. GADREEL: And your vessel – is he happy? ABNER: He was an abusive ass. But I love my family, and they love me. I'm not a wise man, Gadreel. But I know this. The key to happiness? It's getting the one thing you want most and never letting it go. GADREEL: And what if there's a price? ABNER: There's always a price. But it's worth paying.
Abner paid with his life, because Gadreel had been manipulated and lied to by Metatron. Gadreel thought this was part of a grand plan, but it had been Metatron’s demand for loyalty and obedience, forcing Gadreel to literally kill possibly his only friend in the world, the one angel who knew his true story and loved him anyway. TO MANIPULATE GADREEL SPECIFICALLY into doing Metatron’s bidding, cutting off all other avenues to freedom and vindication.
Which... is kinda what Dean’s going through right now, you know? He thinks he’s free, and has cut ties with Cas in a horrific way. I mean, he didn’t literally kill Cas in 15.03, but tell me that wasn’t a metaphorical stab to the heart?
DEAN: Why are you doing this, huh? We fought together. And I trusted you. I thought you were one of the good guys! GADREEL: I am doing what I have to do. DEAN: Well, so am I.
Poor Gadreel, like Dean now, was doing what he thought he had to do. Like Rowena dying to heal the rift into Hell, because she thought it’s what she had to do-- right down to her belief in the prophecy that Sam would kill her being the entire reason the spell worked at all. Like all of them believing that Chuck is gone, because it’s what they feel they have to do to “move on.” And AAARGH.
*hears Dean’s voice yelling in the distance from 4.22 IT’S ALL A BUNCH OF LIES, YOU POOR, STUPID SONOFABITCH*
CASTIEL: Uh... I'm okay. DEAN: Good. Good. That's, uh... So, what, you just change the batteries out, power back up? It's that easy? CASTIEL: It wasn't easy, but I didn't have a choice. DEAN: Yeah. Well, that's usually how it goes. Cas... I'm sorry. CASTIEL: About what? DEAN: Kickin' you out of the bunker. That's, uh... You know, not telling you about Sam. CASTIEL: You thought his life was at stake. DEAN: Yeah, I got played. CASTIEL: I thought I was saving Heaven. I got played, too. DEAN [with a weak smile]: So you're sayin' we're both a couple of dumbasses? CASTIEL [gently smiling back]: I prefer the word "trusting." Less dumb. Less ass.
And then Cas learns the truth of who Gadreel is:
CASTIEL: It's his fault – all of it. The corruption of man, demons, hell. God left because of him. The archangels – the apocalypse. If he hadn't been so weak, none of it would have happened. [CASTIEL gets white hot with anger and starts to shake the unconscious GADREEL] You ruined the universe, you damn son of a bitch! DEAN [grabs CASTIEL and swings him around to face him.]: Cas! Cas! Hey! CASTIEL: Dean, he – DEAN: I get it. But you got to chill.
And obviously NONE OF THIS was actually Gadreel’s fault. He was manipulated by Lucifer, and really, who among them HASN’T been directly manipulated into doing terrible things by Lucifer? And really, can we now say that all of this-- every last bit of it-- was Chuck’s original manipulation, and just another go-around of his favorite horrific story?
Because Gadreel may have been the one to stand aside for Lucifer to enter the garden, but in addition to all the pain and guilt, this was the beginning of Humanity making their own choices and bearing the consequences of those choices. You can’t have true joy without true suffering, and only humans can experience either. The “paradise” of the garden that Metatron had used to lure Gadreel into his service, the promise of the return to that idealistic utopia, was about OBEDIENCE and never about FREEDOM. This is what Abner had tried to show Gadreel, and he was killed for it. And isn’t that just the way Chuck’s stories always go?
Crowley tells Dean that he’s not willing to die for any of them, but then... he literally stands between Sam and Gadreel:
GADREEL: Hello, Sam. SAM: Who are you? CROWLEY: His name is Gadreel, the original chump. GADREEL: Was a chump. And now? I'm going to be the one that leads my kind back to heaven. I'm going to be a hero. But you, demon, for all your chatter, you will always be a coward. You should be running. [CROWLEY punches GADREEL in the face and GADREEL swings back hurling him over the table. GADREEL starts to kick him and SAM comes to his rescue only to be thrown backwards over the table himself. GADREEL straddles him and starts to strangle him.]
Gadreel tries to manipulate Sam, warning him that he still might die if Sam casts him out, but Sam does it anyway.
SAM: So what? I was willing to die. And now... Kevin... [His eyes fill with guilty tears] DEAN [strongly]: No. That is not on you. Kevin's blood is on my hands, and that ain't ever getting clean. I'll burn for that. I will. But I'll find Gadreel. And I will end that son of a bitch. But I'll do it alone. SAM: What's that supposed to mean? DEAN: Come on, man. Can't you see? I'm... I'm poison, Sam. People get close to me, they get killed...or worse. You know, I tell myself that I-I – I help more people than I hurt. And I tell myself that I'm – I'm doing it all for the right reasons, and I – I believe that. But I can't – I won't... Drag anybody through the muck with me. Not anymore. [DEAN looks pleadingly at his brother] SAM: Go. I'm not gonna stop you.
And there we go, in a season that began with Charlie’s voiceover saying something to the effect of, “There’s nothing the Winchesters can’t do if they stick together” over the opening chords of “Who Do You Love.” Which, at this Midseason Finale point  had to be so completely broken. Dean is convinced they can’t work together.
Wait, who wrote this episode? OH RIGHT, ANDREW DABB DID.
Can we see his pet themes at work in s15 yet? I think we can.
With the MoC apparently set to make a reappearance in 15.05 tonight, I’m thinking 9.11 will offer us some valuable insight into what Chuck is up to here. But also we know that Sam will be working with Cas even if Dean is still too messed up for a while, and this was the episode that really began to establish a friendship between Sam and Cas outside of Cas feeling responsible for Sam because of Dean.
And 9.12? Garth had abandoned them, abandoned Kevin, because he’d been bitten by a werewolf on a hunt and had been prepared to give in to that fate. And yet he’d been saved, found love, and found a family and purpose despite having believed he’d lost everything. He was still one of the good guys, even if he was a monster. And we saw the beginnings of the family theme that wouldn’t really have a chance to flourish until Dabb era:
Garth: Um...I know this may sound a little crazy, but... Maybe I could come back and hunt with you. I mean, with my werewolf mojo, we'd have an advantage. Dean: Yeah, look, Garth -- Garth: No, Dean. I want to make this right. I never should've left you guys, especially Kevin. Kevin was my friend. Friends don't do that. Dean: Well, hey, you said it -- you know, who cares where happiness comes from? Look, we're all a little weird, we're all a little wacky -- some more than others -- but...if it works, it works. You got something here. Okay? Even though they are werewolves. Or lycanthropes -- whatever. Don't let that go. Okay? You'll never forgive yourself. Besides, somebody's got to live to tell this damn story someday, and who better than you? Now shut up and come here.
There was more I wanted to say as I was watching, but I think this covers most of the important stuff for now.

Supernatural 15x01 rewatch
As a warning to send you on your way; this is a long post and it’s not clearly structured. It’s a reaction and not a proper analysis/ meta. I’d love to hear your thoughts or be pointed towards your own reactions if you’re willing to share~
Okay, here we go! All under the cut!
I am fond of the smooth transition between the “THEN” and “NOW”. The summary of last season was pretty short and I had somehow expected a montage spanning all seasons, but this is better.
First of all I am confronted with the slight vagueness of the issue at hand: the doors to hell have all been opened, so any soul that wants to is free to walk the earth again. So are they ghosts or are they demons? Since they possess bodies demons would be most likely, but then they wouldn’t be cast out of a body by iron alone. Other ghosts we see later on - any ghost that’s not in the cemetary trying to eat Sam and Dean and Cas - don’t seem to need to possess a body. Neither are they in any way restricted to a particular place or object or bound by lore (White Woman, Bloody Mary... they both just kill whoever is available, not who they would usually go for due to the “rules”).
The second remarkable thing is that we get Belphegor in Jack’s place, both masking his loss but also parading it around, depending on which character he has a scene with. Belphegor, while suspicious, is also highly entertaining and even though he has no eyes he is pretty insightful. Jack’s dead and Dean comments it with “he didn’t deserve this”, but that is the height of emotion for Dean regaring Jack’s demise, at least in this episode. Dean wanted Jack to die but ultimately decided against it, but I assume his lack of emotion (or at least the lack of expression of those emotions) are a good indication that Dean’s anger at what Jack has done still overrides his paternal feelings and any sadness that Jack's death might cause him. He wanted him dead, now he’s dead, moving on to bigger issues.
How Dean deals with his own complicated feelings regarding Jack is one thing, but how he deals with Cas’ feelings is quite another. Dean shows no compassion at all for how Cas feels about Belphegor walking around in Jack’s body. But neither does Sam, not really. They instead jump at the chance of having an ally. A demon comes, possesses Jack’s body, gives them a little speech and conveniently has all the right spells just available to himself and Dean & Sam don’t even think about second guessing it? It’s like “I need angel blood :D” and when Cas hesistates Sam urges him to give his blood anyway.
Also, Sam doesn’t have a lot of scenes with the guy, it’s mostly Dean and Cas being shown to have very different reactions and that’s pretty telling too considering Dean and Cas have been established to be Jack’s parents more than Sam has lately.
While Dean is pretty unperturbed and cracking jokes like calling Belphegor Crowley Jr. (I’d call him Babybel but to each their own), Castiel went from anger at him possessing Jack to a heart-broken admittal that he can’t even look at Belphegor, something that doesn’t even seem to cross Dean’s mind as a possibility? He lets Cas go without berating him for it, so at least it gave him to think a bit and he didn’t default to not letting Cas have emotions about it.
Belphegor has a reaction to the Equalizer, so I assume there might be something coming featuring that kill everything suicide gun. Belphegor probably knows more than he lets on, who knows if he’s even from our version of the Sam and Dean story, but we’ll probably see. The scene showing the gun in Belphegor’s presence was there for a reason and we’re bound to see what it’ll become.
Belphegor commenting on how gorgeous Dean is (and then later on how much he admires him as an artist) is just so funny to me. Kind of uncomfortable of course because it sounds like Belphegor is flirting and the dude is possessing Dean’s kid *lol* Generally, Belphegor is our big question mark of the episode. Is he who he claims to be? What is his goal exactly? Helping the Winchesters to put things back into hell seems far-fetched but not exactly impossible.
But, I must now comment on one of the high lights of the episode for me. Dean, Cas and Belphegor are in the impala alone. Belphegor witnesses Cas share that he cannot even look at Belphegor. I’m pretty sure Jack made the demon news too, but Belphegor still asks about his meatsuit, which then reveals an interesting, juicy bit that warms every Destiel shipper’s heart. Dean says that Jack was “our” kid. Now, imagine you’re Belphegor and you get that piece of information after having just witnessed a tense moment between Dean and Cas. Who is “our”? Considering that Belphegor knows that Sam and Dean are brothers and he has seen how Cas acts around him, he inevitably must interpret “he was our kid” to mean Dean and Castiel’s. Especially since everyone in hell seems to know that Dean and Cas are “attached”. I’m just waiting for Belphegor to comment on Dean and Cas’ failing marriage.
But hey, back to the plot! I wonder what the Equalizer wound does. In all honesty we don’t even know for sure what the Equalizer does, because it certainly wasn’t the only thing that could kill Jack. Maybe its goal was to purge Jack out of the story since he, in theory, could be a thread to the whole cardhouse structure of the multiverse that is Chuck’s AO3 profile of not beta read variations of the same story (like Metatron said, Chuck posted the first draft). When Jack was born he created rifts into different worlds - the abandoned drafts existing parallel to their own - and he had impacted other worlds, killed players from different universes (well, not that this was the first time this happened, Meta Misha anyone? Poor guy) and could destroy it all. Chuck doesn’t mind losing one story. There are countless more, but having Jack mess up all of them, especially the ones Chuck likes to observe? That would suck. So if that was something the Equalizer was meant to prevent, balacing all the other universes out there, then maybe Sam now accidentally became a portal/ door to other worlds. The fact that we saw a different Sam, heard a different Dean seems to imply this.
Well, that’s just speculation because it could also be that Sam, having accidentally forged a connection with Chuck due to their common wound, could simply see things - the future, different versions that Chuck is currently invested in. In any case, I’m very excited about that, seeing different versions of Team Free Will is my jam.
And while I’m speaking of things that are my jam? I must mention Cas’ flat “You shot me”. So good. I always wonder why that doesn’t happen more often in close ghost combat when shotguns are involved. Luckily Cas can’t get hurt *lol*
But... why can a ghost hurt a demon and why can a ghost get a hold of Cas? These ghosts generally do weird things but I assume that might be because they’ve been to hell for a while and are on their way to become demons? But that brings us back to the question I asked initially and I guess we’ll see more of that in the next episode.
And now, the other DeanCas scene. It doesn’t exactly qualify as a conversation but it’s there and it’s still meaningful. Why did Dean get out of the car, why did he approach Cas, why did he ask? The way he cuts any conversation short beyond the quick affirmation that Cas isn’t hurt, Dean shows that he doesn’t want to talk, doesn’t want to hear anything from Cas. Belphegor picks up on the rejection it is meant to be. It is kinda awkard, it is kind of cruel. Dean knows how Cas is struggling with the situation, at least when it gets to Belphegor but Dean is clever enough to know how much Cas is hurting because of Jack’s death. But Dean allows no grief, no expression of it, which I think is cruel... And it’s not necessary. Even if Dean is angry at Cas still (obviously) that doesn’t mean that he gets to decide to not let Cas be sad about the death of their child. (But Dean has done that before, when Charlie died and Sam apologized to her while they gave her a hunter’s funeral, Dean decided that Sam didn’t get to say anything, because he was at fault. It makes Dean seem so self-righteous, deciding who can or cannot be sad and in what shape they are allowed to express their grief.) Cas has shown in S14 and now again that he wants to talk, he wants to tackle the issue as a family. He never rejected Dean’s sadness, anger and grief - it was Sam that held him back, it was Dean who decided to cry alone in the woods even though Cas would have been there for him.
And Cas isn’t even angry at Dean, which is something that I expected. I wonder if that will continue this way; with Cas having plenty of reasons to be upset with Dean, but only ever taking the rejection Dean heaps on him, accepting that Dean doesn’t grant him the right to voice his own grief, without ever speaking up about it. Just... it’s unfair?
By the way, Sam continues to remove himself from the entire issue. He has very little to offer in terms of reactions to Jack’s death, he has nothing to offer in terms of comfort for Cas, presents no grief for either Cas or Dean to comment on and in turn get to show glimpses of their own struggling. And he too takes no responsibility at the current moment for the situation, no apology offered to Cas regarding his involvement in the “kill Jack” mission... Which is disappointing as well but not super unexpected either. Maybe it’ll come later, but as with Dean, Cas doesn’t seem to hold any anger so far.
I did like the ending. From what some interviews stated I had expected Sam and Dean to struggle with having God as the one who wrote their entire lives a lot more. But they’re doing fine so far...
All in all, a good episode. Throwing Belphegor into the mix created some very interesting situations and having him there means that he - as an outsider - gets to poke at things that interests us too, like the focus on the Dean - Cas drama. He comments on it for us, gets Cas to speak up in ways he probably wouldn’t if there was only Jack’s corpse around. So I’m pleased. :D

SPN Season 14 (and a little bit of 12 and 13) Critiques
Listen, I dislike when people hate new seasons of a show just because “the old ones were better” with no actual excuse, so I hope this post does not get perceived that way, but Supernatural’s writing and directing has decayed over the last few years, and season 14 episode 1 really just did it for me. I tried to ignore season 12′s mess of a storyline because the new characters were well done (in my opinion, of course--and Mary is excluded from this because although the actress is wonderful, I cannot get into her being back in the story for over a season. I’ll go more into that later), and season 13 had Gabriel and Rowena to pull me through the alternate universe plot and Jack who--as I’ll go into later--was another big punch in SPN’s writing integrity, but this one episode from 14 literally had me in shock.
So, with no more introduction, the list of critiques I have based of season 14′s ONE episode. I may pull in a bit of 12 and 13 too because they are where a lot of the issues started. There will be some things I liked about the episode too! But very little lol.
Spoilers ahead! Also opinions ahead--feel free to disagree with me, and I actually would really like to see what other people think!
1. Filmography
That fight scene in the bar says it all. There have been some god awful editing of the footage since 13 (that Michael blue eyes zoom in at the end of 13? Unless they were trying to make a thriller joke, it was wack), but this one episode, like I said before, sent me into shock. The zoom ins, the shaky camera filming like we’re in the Office, the out of place music that does not really fit the Supernatural theme--I could go on. That fight scene had flashing lights, zoom ins, and more jump-cuts than a youtube video to the point we’re I had no idea what was going on. My brother watching with me literally was speechless for the entire fight, which felt like an eternity.
It felt dramatized in a Riverdale way. No shade to Riverdale, obviously, because that works for that show. But in Supernatural? It’s the Teen Titans Go effect--popular shows on a network influence older shows and, in my opinion, make those shows worse as a result. This leaks into my number 2...
2. Theme
It’s the 100. The theme is the 100. The show is the 100. (This is a joke I have never watched the 100, but when did Supernatural adopt a dystopia mood for their show?)
3. Wait a minute....... Who ARE you?
The centric theme of Supernatural is family and freewill. Sam and Dean are supposed to constantly be the centers of the show, but exceptions are made, and often have been really well done. I thought Bitten was a great episode, and episodes where Sam and Dean are separated are also a great way to look at the brothers from a different viewpoint. Even if you didn’t like Bitten or those type of episodes, however, that was okay. Why? Because they were one off episodes, if not maybe two or three. Dean being gone is fresh, and could be done well, but when the centric theme of family, aka people Sam and Dean trust and love like Cas, Bobby, Jo, Ellen, etc, is suddenly ruptured by extras (that are usually super fun in a one-off hunting episode, maybe a reoccurrence now and then) becoming apart of the brother’s daily life and the viewer’s weekly watching, it’s uncomfortable. Not because I or others hate change, but because it goes against a major theme of supernatural. Dean, Sam, and Cas are suddenly extremely close to people they don’t necessarily consider family, and that is very odd for the show.
In case you cannot tell, I care a lot about Supernatural’s themes. I don’t care if they shake things up, but the show’s values are important. They need to stick to them for it to be, well, Supernatural.
4. Not-Bobby and Mary
If they become canon, I’ll actually sink into the pit. You can pair together whoever you want--this one is very much so just an opinion. But in terms of writing, this just comes off as so wrong for many reasons. Maybe it’s because neither of them should be on earth in the first place.
Mary was such a wonderful and powerful character. Then they brought her back to life, which drained meaning out of her. She could have had a realization she does not belong on earth and go back to heaven at the end of 12, which would give Sam and Dean closure and actually be kinda nice. But nope. She’s still here. And what’s the point if the only available female character isn’t dating someone????? (she said, sarcastically)
Not-Bobby is just a way to keep Jim Beaver around, which yeah I get it i love him too, but why not just have some episodes like where Bobby helped the boys from heaven. That was fun. That was also real Bobby. If we were going to have Not-Bobby, I would at least like him to establish what Not-Charlie established (I liked her so much more)--they are not who the Winchesters knew in their universe. Not-Bobby gives off too much of an actual Bobby feel, and God knows I don’t want actual Bobby and Mary together... eeeee...
5. The alternate universe plot-line sucks in the context of Supernatural as a show
Speaks for itself.
6. Jack
Fellas. I’ll get hate for this (if anyone reads this, lol), but he’s a bad character.
He’s fan-service. Fan-service isn’t always bad, mind you, but it is when that is the bases for the character. A cute, younger boy (back to the Riverdale/the 100 teen drama throw in a more adult-centered show) who is reminiscent of all the things fans loved about quirky Castiel back in seasons 4 and 5. Jack was super over powered too, which made me struggle all throughout season 13 to not hate his character for what was just a writing death sentence. Now that he doesn’t have powers they’re finally trying to give him... depth? Pro tip: If it takes a whole season to give a character depth, it’s bad writing.
I’ll admit, though--I do love the dad Sam scenes. Not too much the dad Cas scenes because they’re often poorly written and unlike Cas imo. But eh.
Jack is like an OC. Sounds fun until put into practice.
Why couldn’t they have just... not killed Kevin and had him be the son-character he already was to the boys? Or not kill Charlie and let her be the little-sibling character she was to the boys? Why couldn’t either of those two very important characters become titular main characters instantly after being introduced, like Jack was? Maybe because they’re not white or a dude, respectively? Or because the show didn’t need to fill in the hole Mark Sheppard left for a main character until now? Hmm...
In all realness, Jack is just too poorly written in my eyes to like, but I know people totally love him so please know that’s valid and I get it. I do love the actor, so there’s that.
7. Maggie
WHY DID SHE COME ALONG ON THE TRIP?? SHE COULDN’T USE A BLADE, BUT THEY PICKED HER TO COME ALONG?
I get the quirky humor, but SURELY there were other capable people they could have asked. Maggie is cute, but a throwaway for humor. I was trying to like her because, again, the actress was great and I love some comedy, but not at the expense of reason.
Also, again, no offense but I cannot deal with the parallel universe people and the storyline in general.
Now for some positives mixed with negatives!
8. Nick
Ohhhh boy. Nick could be the one good thing about this season IF they do not make it a “it was me, Lucifer all along!” cheap shot (which I know they will do, hence the negative). I think it would be a bigger plot twist if Nick WASN’T Lucifer. Sam could bond with a guy who went exactly through what he went through, we could have an established character back instead of these random new ones (like the vampire Michael brought in at the end with no context... like, I put Supernatural higher above other drama shows because it actually establishes a character and who they are before making them apart of the plot, like Gabriel being the janitor before he was the trickster, and the trickster before he was Gabriel. Cheap introductions with dramatic music in the background? Pass).
I wanted Missouri back, she died. I wanted Gabriel back, he died. Nick will either be Lucifer or die, but I will cling onto every good old character there is until there are none left. There are good new characters too, sometimes, but they keep dying too (Eileen) so miss me with that argument.
Also there’s no way Nick could have survived. Jimmy died, why wouldn’t he? It’s Lucifer, but if it wasn’t? It’d be better. And also this totally is another cheap shot to keep Mark in the show, like with Jim. I love Mark, but we all know it.
9. Kip
I was SO pissed for most of the episode, because I thought that the show was actually trying to replace Crowley (you know the writing is bad when you expect SPN to pull something like that). I actually LOVED it when that show was self-aware and Kip was actually putting on a show--TRYING to be Crowley but miserably failing and being a pathetic knock-off. It was good, it was interesting, I was ready for the plot-line of Crowley’s irreplaceableness and how demons would deal with it.
But Kip died. Why wasn’t Asmodeus’ death that quick? He was an actual poorly written villain with nothing interesting to him.
In conclusion, this is why I nearly died watching the first episode of season 14. Will I stop watching? Not yet. SPN is a show I have loved since I was little--I watched it with my big sister, and now my little brother watches it with me. Does that mean the show is still good? In my opinion... no.
I think the writers should stop pandering to the audience so much. I watched “Live Free Or Twi-Hard” after 14x01 to wash my eyes out with old SPN, and I remembered how much the show used to laugh at over-done trends. SPN was different and fun because it didn’t care, it did what the creators wanted, and it worked. It doesn’t feel like that any more. The show made fun of Twilight in that episode, yet “Wayward Sisters” had total Vampire Diaries narration (no offense to the pilot, but I have to admit... I didn’t like it. It could definitely be a good stand-alone show, and I did want it to be picked up, but it was completely out of place in Supernatural as a show. Again, because of the themes and shameless pandering to the teen audience).
Supernatural fans fell in love with Supernatural, not a teen CW drama. That does not mean fans can’t love those too--love all the TV teen dramas you want, I like those shows too--but the tropes for those type of shows fits in those type of shows. I can admit Supernatural is not a masterpiece, and it is a drama, but it’s not what they show has become now. And 14x01 makes that perfectly clear.
But that’s just my opinion, a Supernatural opinion! Thanks for reading!

A Devil in Your Head
Takes place around season 9 (a spoiler ahead)
Paring: Reader x Crowley (kinda?)
Summery: you're a psychic and for some reason you are getting prophet visions. You can't sort through it so Crowley has to posses you and help you out
Warnings: none
----------------------------------------
Ever since Kevin died and Metatron made it so no more profits could be be born some of the tablets information has been funneled to your head in visions and painful head aches. Enochian and other unknown languages flashed through your head, snippets of the future played at loud volumes drowning out any room to think and make sense from the mess. You curl up into a ball on your bed, curtains drawn, lights off, door shut. The boys are frantically researching for an answer trying to explain why a psychic is getting prophet visions. Dean passes you your sketchbook in hopes that by drawing out what you see in your head you can get it out of your system. You carefully take your hands off your ears and grab the pen Dean holds out to you. Your whole body is shaking and the noises that no one but you can hear is getting too loud again. You barley make a mark on the paper before you curl back up pleading for it to stop. Dean leaves the sketchbook by you and quickly exits trying not to let the hallway light enter the dark room.
"Sam she's not doing any better," Dean pours himself another cup of coffee and sits down like the weight of the world is on his shoulders. Sam looks up from his book, concern on his face,
"What should we do?" He asks rhetorically. The two brothers sat in silence mentally going over old hunts hoping something will come to them. Dean gasps, his face lights up, then quickly fades. "Dean, what is it?" Sam asks leaning forward. Dean swivels in the rolling chair disgusted with what he's about to say,
"Maybe we should call Crowley." The suggestion hangs in the air, until the devil himself pops in,
"Hello, boys. You called?" Crowley stand at the head of the table expectantly. Dean and Sam pull their guns out on instinct, then lower them. "Now, now, Daddy is here to help. Where's the poor lass?" He asks surveying the room looking for you.
"Don't touch her," Dean says through gritted teeth.
"Tisk tisk where are your manners? You're the one that called me," Crowley places a hand on his chest in sarcastic shock at the boys hosting skills. Sam finally steps forward,
"Y/n is having visions, speaking gibberish. She's in pain. Do you think you could enter her mind like you did mine and help her sort out what she's seeing?"
"Sure, why not? I've got nothing better going on," Crowley starts toward the hallway to the bedroom, "this way right?" Sam and Dean jog to catch up.
"Just like that?" Dean asks,
"Just like that, squirrel," Crowley stops in front of your door and can hear the whimpering from inside.
"No deal? No sell your soul?" Sam questions.
"Can't a king just want to help out his subjects?" He places his hand on the doorknob. Dean places his on Crowley stopping him,
"No tricks, just help her,"
"You have my word, Dean" Crowley looks to Dean then Sam. Sam gives a nod and Crowley walks in followed by the two. You try to curl in even tighter on yourself avoiding the light and the harsh sounds.
"How are you, love?" Crowley speaks in a soft tone, brushing your hair back from your sweaty forehead. The boys stare at each other mystified by this softer side of Crowley. "Okay, I'm going to enter you head now," he explains to your contorted figure. His eyes don't leave you as he takes of his suit jacket. He turns to face the boys, "this could be a while, don't wait up," his cheeky personality back. He opens up his mouth and the red cloud transfers from him to you. Crowley's unanimated body falls beside you.
Crowley roams around for a bit before he finally find you. You're in the bunker sitting at the library table, books and papers scattered around you. The projector is on and despite only being able to show silent films in real life is screaming chants at you while flashing Enochian symbols. Crowley can't help but compare you to a stressed out college student during finals week. You're mental image of yourself is disheveled and has deep dark bags under their eyes. You look up from your slouching potion in the chair and see Crowley. You've never been on bad terms with the King of Hell, but your not sure you trust him in your head.
"Hello, love," he takes a seat at the table while you stand up, stressed and panicked. Crowley seems unfazed at this reaction and keeps talking. "The boys sent me. It seems you've been having a little trouble sorting this stuff out," he picks up a paper and observes it, "lucky for you I can read Enochian." You don't know what to say to this. You both stare at each other in silence before Crowley speaks again, "darling, sit," he says gently, you comply. "Now, show me what we're working with."
The two of you gather and sort papers out and are able to get the projector to shut up. Crowley starts on the English translations in a mental version of your sketchbook. You finally lean back in your chair and breath out a sigh. "You alight there, love?" Crowley looks up from the book.
"Yes actually," you say meeting his eyes, "I feel so much lighter," Crowley smiles,
"Glad I could help," he says with a flourish of his pen across the paper. "Now I need you to stay here a bit longer. I need to transfer these notes to the real world," Crowley stands and buttons up his suit jacket. You grip the handles of the chair seizing up. You forgot that the literal King of Hell is possessing you right now. Crowley notices and smiles, "You'll have your body back soon, just relax," he snaps his fingers and is gone. Sam and Dean rush to your side as your body sits up. "It warms my heart to get this affection from you boys." It's your voice and body, but it's clearly Crowley speaking, "but I'm here on business. Hand me that notebook would ya?" Sam passes the notebook and they all sit in silence as Crowley quickly flushes out the translations. Crowley snaps the book shut and hands the things back to Sam, "see you soon." Your body falls back and the red cloud leaves your body and renters Crowley's. Back in control of your body you take a deep breath, the brothers smother you in a hug relieved to see you functioning again. Crowley rises from the bed and slips his jacket back on without a word. You're able to reach an arm out of the bone crushing hug and grab Crowley's hand catching his attention.
"Thank you, Crowley," you hold his gaze, "truly." Crowley just nods feeling a bit awkward and snaps his fingers disappearing.

Hey man! Saw you asking for Meta Posts and I was wondering, based on the context of this season, who you think Jensen’s new character might be. Do you think we’re looking at (a potentially crazy) OG!Michael, AU!Michael, or (long stretch but it’s been tossed around) AU!Azazel????
HEY! Thank you and oh gosh I am all over this topic right now. *grabby hands*
I have been throwing ideas at @tinkdw and @margarittet all day and the one thing we all agree on is that Michael!Dean is super obvious based on spoilers.
Personally I don’t actually think it makes sense in the current narrative for Dean to say yes to possession by Michael. If he DOES and they do go down that route I would put money on it being a Bucklemming idea.
I doubt it would be AU!Michael because as far as I can tell he has a perfectly good vessel/body whatever the deal is with angels in the AU since demons have actual horns and all... and he has never heard of Dean nor cares about Dean and even if he did find out that Dean was his vessel in our reality, why would that make him want to jump out of his currently perfectly good vessel ya know?
So that leaves us with Original Michael. Which means we are in for a potentially kinda dumb plot point in which for some reason the boys decide it would be a good idea to pull Michael out of the cage and force him back into action. Why would they do that? Maybe they think Michael can convince AU!Michael not to destroy our world? I don’t even know. Maybe Michael escapes somehow and in his madness he threatens Cas and Sam unless Dean gives him his consent? Whatever the actual reasoning is for Michael coming back, I have no doubt that Dean’s consent would be conditional on protecting Cas and Sam.
That’s IF it is Michael of course, which whilst obvious, it’s not the character that excites me most.
That I leave for Azazel. When we first got the spoiler that Jensen would be playing someone else I wondered about this, and I know others have thought about it too even though its probably not very plausible, but I can’t help but love the idea.
I have been wondering all season about the Empty. It had such a huge foreshadowed build up in seasons 11 and 12 and there was one line in particular that really got me excited in 13x04 that I would have screamed about at the time if I had ever gotten around to actually writing a review for that episode:
COSMIC ENTITY: That’s right. Nothing. Nothing but Empty. And you are soaking in it. Angels and demons, you all come here when you die. CASTIEL: Every angel that ever died is here?
For some reason this stayed with me. If Cas can come back from the place where all the angels and demons go when they die, then so can anyone else.
TFW are currently running around trying to open rifts in time and space to save their loved ones, completely ignoring Billie’s warning:
BILLIE: this whole multi-versal quantum construct we live in, it’s like a house of cards. And the last thing I need is some big, dumb Winchester knocking it all down.
Well, at least Dean is as far as we know...
So my thoughts immediately went to “well, what if the act of knocking it all down wakes up the empty entity along with everything else and we end up with this massive bleed of formally dead angels and demons back to haunt the shit out of TFW for the lead up to the final season?” and okay okay, this is wild speculation. But I really like the idea.
I started thinking whose presence in the show would have THE MOST significance and honestly, my mind jumped straight to Azazel. I would LOVE for Azazel to come back and possess Dean because the sheer amount of meta and meaning and EVERYTHING in that just makes my mind go:
Tumblr media
and what with all the references to him in recent seasons, the call backs, the yellow eyes and significance of the colour yellow... urgh I would just love it. I would love it. it would be horribly, horribly, tragic. But I would love it. It would tie everything back to the original story, to John and his revenge mission, to Mary’s death, to the demon blood and Sam’s original story arc... Azazel would be the key to finally bringing this all back around. To address old trauma and finally close the door on their terrible childhood and abuse at the hands of their father. In a season with underlying themes about fatherhood, it would be an interesting way to address all that stuff without bringing John back.
Unless they bring John back of course.
Do I think it’s likely? Not as much as Michael!Dean. Azazel doesn’t need consent to possess someone (and Dean does have the tattoo) and at least with the Michael!Dean story Dean would have to actively choose to consent and therefore regardless of how ridiculous it may be for plot purposes, for character purposes it is even more tragic and beautiful - just like a Hallmark movie.
Dean saying yes to Michael in order to save Cas and Sam or to save the world or any of those reasons (though based on season themes I am really leaning towards saving Cas being the priority point) would be a HUGELY dramatic way to end this season. Thematically, I love it. Story wise though? It doesn’t make sense for the current plot to have Michael possess Dean. Original!Michael just isn’t necessary in this story. So I dunno.
Maybe Gabe will possess him? Maybe his vessel is all ruined for whatever reason. That would be a random way to go. Plus it would give Sabriel shippers who don’t like wincest some really confusing thoughts. LOL.
Or maybe it’ll be Cas? Maybe an AU!Cas? Maybe in the AU world Dean meets AU!Cas and for some reason he is a prisoner or whatever and so to get him out Dean lets him possess him. That’ll be another really crazy out of left field idea. Because then you’d have actual Cas coming face to face with himself from an AU wearing Dean’s face and well, I may have just thought this concept up on the spot but now I really wanna read fanfic about that scenario because again, LOL.
Or hell, maybe it’ll be Crowley. Maybe this is how they bring back Crowley without bringing back Mark Shepherd? Imagine all the jokes about Crowley being “in Dean” (I’m already laughing about it tbh).
Or MAYBE it’ll be a woman who possesses him? Because Dean has been female coded for HOW LONG now? Abaddon wanted to get her creepy hands on him for a long time, this could be her way back from the empty perhaps?
Or Rowena. Still a wild card waiting for the other various plot points to finish so she can step in with her goddess like power. Why would Rowena have reason to possess Dean when she already has the gorgeous form of Ruth Connell though? I dunno. It was just a thought.
Maybe Dean will be possessed by someone totally new who we’ve never seen before? Maybe there’s another eldritch monstrosity waiting in the wings to have its day in the sun in the gorgeous freckled form of Dean Winchester? Maybe 13x17 foreshadowed far more than we thought?
Or maybe it is the Cosmic Entity itself, now perpetually awake and grumpy because it’s world has been torn apart by one Dean Winchester, so it takes on his form and decides to wreck havok on the world. Plus it’ll give Jensen a chance to attempt that North Atlantic Oil Rig accent he loves so much. :P

Season 13 Roundup Thoughts
Okay, so this post is gonna be a touch lengthy, and I will be ranting A LOT. So, readers beware.
So, season 13 has come and gone, and now it’s time for me to give my overall thoughts on the season. This season has had a shitload of ups, and downs, and I wanna discuss what I liked, and hated about this season, as well as some additional thoughts on it. And since I want this to end on a good note, I will start with what angered me, and then go to the good stuff.
Also, these are in no particular order, I’m just going by what I think of first.
Things I hated:
1. Gabriel’s Arc
Okay, WHAT THE FUCK. JUST......WHY??? When I found out Gabriel was back, I rejoiced. I was internally throwing a fucking party, because holy shit, one of my favorite characters has returned from the dead! Maybe we’ll keep him for good this time! NOPE!
Instead, we get like, 5 episodes of him, and then he’s dead again. What makes me the most angry about this, is that his resurrection was basically pointless this season, because they use Lucifer to get them into AU world anyways. THE ONLY REASON GABRIEL WAS BROUGHT BACK, WAS TO HAVE AN EXCUSE TO THROW DEAN AND KETCH INTO AU WORLD, AND TO KILL ASMODEUS. THAT’S IT.
And the worst part, is that Gabriel being brought back opened up SO MANY DOORS FOR HIS CHARACTER. Like, my personal favorite is his relationship with Sam, because I was hoping those two would become closer in terms of their trauma. Well, those hopes were basically thrown out the window, since it was almost glanced over. As a Sabriel shipper, this felt like a kick to the fucking face. I feel like the writers were like, “Oh, you ship Sabriel? Hahahaha, we’re gonna bring him back, give you guys some fanservice, and then kill him again!”
I mean yes, their relationship was somewhat brought out of nowhere, BUT that doesn’t ignore the fact that even if they weren’t on the best of terms in the early seasons, they still had something. And I’m angry that they threw away this opportunity for Sam to have a close friend, because GOD FORBID Sam have a close friend that doesn’t die.
What also angers me about Gabriel’s arc, is that they were building towards him being the new leader of Heaven, and then they throw it to the waste side. Like, why the FUCK were they hinting at that, if they were just gonna ignore that? It would’ve actually been awesome if Gabriel was the one to run Heaven, since he’d do a much better job than the other archangels. Besides, wasn’t Naomi the one to tell Cas to bring Gabriel back? WHAT THE FUCK IS HE GONNA TELL HER NOW???
I HATE it when the meta writers, and theorisers can write the show better than the writers can. And no, I don’t hate you guys, quite the contrary, but when the writers of the show have all these open doors that the meta writers, and theorisers run with, the writers almost ALWAYS ignore them! ALWAYS!
Like for example, before last night’s episode aired, people were saying that Gabriel wasn’t actually dead, and that the him that was stabbed by Michael was an illusion, OR that it was him really leaving his vessel, and escaping within one of the Winchesters. Wouldn’t THAT have been more satisfying? Also, why did Lucifer say that angel handcuffs don’t work in that world, but the archangel blade in that world DOES?? THAT WENT LITERALLY NOWHERE ALSO!!
To close off this topic, I feel sorry for Richard, and the fact he got dealt into this show after such a long time, only for him to be kicked out again. I love Richard, and an actor as awesome as him doesn’t deserve this shit. RIP Gabriel.
2. Bucklemming.
I’m gonna be blunt here. Can we fire these two? Please?
They get the most important episodes this season, and THEY ALWAYS SUCK. The only episode from these two that I like is Exodus, because that episode actually had some goddamn EFFORT put into it.
However, it’s also their fault that Gabriel is dead.
I haven’t payed super much attention to the episodes they have written, but out of the ones I KNOW they’ve written, Bring ‘Em Back Alive was the most disappointing episode for me. Almost everything in that episode was rushed, or forced, ESPECIALLY that “I need you” line. (Yeah, even as a Sabriel shipper, I thought that was stupid.)
These two can’t keep consistency AT ALL. The only writers whom I feel should stay on this show is everyone else (especially Perez and Dabb, because those two actually know their shit, and I trust them.)
But Buckner and Lemming need to quit working for this show, and move onto something easier, because writing a show like this is HARD AS FUCK.
I hate these two as writers, but not as people. A person can be a shitty writer, but a good person, as the Fault In Our Stars once said.
But, the point is, these two need to either stop taking on the actually important episodes, or they just need to stop working on this show.
3. Asmodeus
This is the most disappointing villain I have ever seen. Like, I feel like the only reason he exists is to give Ketch a rival/abuser, thus resulting in his redemption arc. He serves literally no other purpose this season, and he dies too damn easily.
I expected the fight between him and Gabriel to be slightly more epic, but NOPE. They just DBZ each other, then he gets set on fire, and that’s it.
I mean, we could’ve gotten a LITTLE more insight into who he is, and what his backstory is, but NOOOOO. The boys finding their mom and son is far more important than figuring out ONE OF THE MAIN VILLAINS OF THE SEASON.
I wouldn’t have minded an entire episode where we find out more about Asmo’s backstory, because at least then we’d understand him a little better. All we get about him, is that Lucifer treated him like shit, and he was the weakest Prince of Hell. That’s literally it.
Crowley didn’t die for this shit. Crowley SHOULD NOT have died, but if he didn’t, then this whole season would have been resolved in about 10 episodes. So, ya know, he just HAD to die.
Anyways, Asmodeus sucks. Moving on.
4. All The Unresolved Conflict
Okay, this bothers me way more than it honestly should. They had this (kinda?) subplot going on in the first half of the season about Dean and Cas, and how they aren’t communicating, and the season makes you think it’ll be resolved in the finale, and that doesn’t happen either. As a die-hard Destiel shipper, this was also a slap in the face. I mean I get it, it’s all part of the slow-burn, but we literally got NOTHING, other than Dean telling Cas all season not to do anything that’ll get him in danger.
What also bothers me is the first half of the season is dedicated to a Destiel feels trip, but the second half is about Dean being protective over Sam again. I love Sam with my whole heart, I really do, but either Dean is worried about Cas, or Sam. PICK ONE, WRITERS!!!
And the situation in Heaven, just...ugh. That was brought up for literally ONE EPISODE, and they mention it in Beat the Devil, and then they’re just like, “lol nope, Gabe is dead now, so we’re fucked.” Again, how is Naomi going to react, knowing that the ONLY PERSON who can help them is now dead? Unless Chuck gets off his ass for once, and resurrects Gabriel, Heaven is basically fucked.
5. Lucifer
I am so glad this bastard is finally done for. The writers gave up on his character years ago. I prefer Kripke’s version of Lucifer, because he was...ya know...ACTUALLY THREATENING.
But as for what he did this season...yeah, it was disappointing.
His whole relationship with Anael was just stupid, and pointless. Her only purpose was to give him Grace, and him running Heaven went by so fast, I forgot it even happened.
I heard from someone that maybe Lucifer would get a redemption arc through Jack, by learning to love him because of his humanity, BUT NO. I’m not asking for Lucifer to become a member of TFW (fuck no,) but I feel like it would’ve been great for him to learn to love his son despite him being half human.
So, that was all thrown to the waste side.
The worst part, is that they made it constantly seem like Lucifer would actually be redeemed, especially with his conversation with Gabriel in Exodus, but NOPE.
Eh, whatever, I stopped caring about him anyways, and I’m glad that my baby Sam is finally free.
6. The “Plot Twist”
Ever since Singer and Dabb opened up their mouths, and said Dean was gonna be someone else in the finale, everyone KNEW it was gonna be Michael.
Everyone predicted it, so it wasn’t surprising when it did happen.
The twist would’ve been less stupid if we were never told about it.
I mean, we didn’t see Gabriel’s (or Charlie’s) returns coming, so why the fuck were we told this massive spoiler (it WAS a spoiler, because everyone predicted it, and saw it coming,) if we knew it was gonna happen anyways?
Ugh, it was bad and dumb.
Now, onto the things I DID like:
1. DESTIEL
Of course this is my first one. I mean, it wouldn’t be a seasonal roundup without it.
The Destiel in this season was fucking AWESOME.
I was not once afraid that they’d fuck it up this season.
And for what it was, they did pretty good.
As angsty as it was, I actually really liked Dean’s depression from the first five episodes, because we see how torn apart he is over Cas dying. We see how he’s basically dead inside, and how he has lost his faith, and how Cas is the thing that keeps him grounded, keeps him alive. Cas is his anchor, and it’s so blatantly obvious that he loves him (don’t tell me that him killing himself was “familial,” because it wasn’t. The show made that clear.)
I like how him and Cas are basically hunter husbands all damn season, and it’s always so fun to watch, especially when Dean is being cutesy and dorky, and Cas gets annoyed (seriously, I’d watch entire episodes where it’s just them being dorks.)
I always love Dean and Cas, and if season 14 is as promising as I think it is, then there is a very very VERY high chance that these two will become canon (and, it’d be their 10 year anniversary, so they HAVE TO)
True love’s kiss will break the spell....
2. SABRIEL
You can’t have Destiel without Sabriel, as I like to believe.
But yes, the Sabriel was awesome too.
I love how it all started with Sam giving Gabriel back his voice by cutting off the stitches. I love how soft, and gentle he is with him.
I love how Gabriel saved Sam’s life twice, because he cares about him.
I love how Sam asked Gabriel if he was okay, and didn’t push him when Gabriel lied.
I love how these two just care so much for each other (too bad it had to end in angst, jfc.)
And besides, Sabriel is kinda 50% canon already, since Richard himself said that Gabriel has a soft spot for Sam.
So, yes, these two are amazing.
3. Scoobynatural
A bit of background: I literally just caught up with the season by the time this episode came along, so I was really excited.
This episode didn’t disappoint at all, and I loved almost every second of it.
It was an animated fun little adventure for our boys, and while they were in danger that episode, it was clear they both enjoyed being there.
Just...yes, this episode was awesome.
4. Jack’s Arc
I love Jack as a character, and how he has to deal with having all this power, but not being able to save everyone. I also love his relationship towards his family (you know which one I’m talking about.)
I always say that Dean and Cas are his parents, and I will not argue that Sam is important, and was more of a father figure towards Jack than Dean this season.
But I feel like Dean teaches him how to remain strong, and Cas teaches him his morality.
I also like his relationship towards Mary, since they spent a long time together this season, and he grew to care for her (as we all saw when he instinctively protected her.)
I am upset that Lucifer took his grace, so now he’s stuck with being human, and a bunch of regret stacked on him.
I hope Jack learns to let things go, because while he may be a baby, he has a long way to go before he can truly feel comfortable with himself.
But...baby steps. He’ll learn through his family.
While there are more negatives than positives, I DO NOT hate this season, far from it. (Besides, my least favorite season will always be season 7.) But, I feel like this season should’ve changed a lot of things, and now that season 14 is happening, many things might not be resolved.
But, we had a good wrap, guys.
So, thank you Jensen, Jared, Misha, Richard, Mark, Alex, Samantha, and everyone else for another great season.
And until fall comes around, and we get into the next season, this is me signing off (for reviews).
Peace.

Whiskey & Trouble
Read it on AO3 Square Filled: Bartender!Dean Ship: Dean Winchester/Michael Rating: Mature Tags: Mafia AU, Bartender!Dean, Mobster!Michael, mention of murder, cheesy flirting, swearing Summary: Dean's bar is not in the best part of town, and sometimes there are shady people among his patrons. Word Count: 2.237 Written for @spnaubingo
Thanks to my beta reader @coplins
It’s a busy night at the Winchester’s – Bar and Karaoke, and behind the counter Dean is pouring one drink after the other, barely even making a show out of mixing cocktails, because there isn’t time for fancy shit like that. That’s probably why he doesn’t notice the small group that sits at the corner table close to the bar right away. He should’ve, because they look like trouble.
He only sees them, when Kevin hands him a note with their orders and points at the table. He notices the woman first, because beautiful women just tend to catch his eyes, and she has ebony skin and high cheekbones and looks like fucking royalty. So does the white dude with black hair in her company, if Dean’s honest. He’s as least as beautiful as her, too. The other two – less so. A blond guy with piercing blue eyes seems more rugged, but spells out danger with every movement. And then there’s the smallest of the bunch, leaning back with a happy smile, lollipop in his mouth. But if you can be that much at ease in company like that, you have to have some aces up your sleeve.
“They’re trouble,” Kevin whispers nervously. “Judging by the way they stopped talking when I came near. And the blond one gives me the creeps.”
“Want me to bring them their drinks?” Dean asks.
Kevin nods relieved. “I can take over the bar for a moment.”
“No problem, kid.” That’s the policy here. Someone scares the waiters or is rude to them, Dean takes over. Most people aren’t rude to him for long.
He hurries to get their drinks ready – one fruity cocktail, one glass of very expensive dry red wine, whiskey for the rest of them – puts them on Kevin’s tray and head towards the corner table.
They do stop talking, before he gets close enough to overhear anything. It’s a bit eery. Only the blond guy looks at him, though. Dean feels like he’s judged and categorized, before he even reaches to table.
The smallest one pops the lollipop out of his mouth. “Did we scare off the guy who took our order?”
“Probably shouldn’t have flirted with him, Gabriel,” the woman says.
“It’s called smiling and being friendly, Raphe. You should try it some time. Even Mike can do it, if he wants to. Even Luci can. In theory. I’ve seen him do it once.”
“Wasn’t worth the effort, though,” the blond guy chimes in.
Dean fights to not show his amusement. He balances the tray on one hand, puts the cocktail in front of lollipop guy – Gabriel apparently – and is about to put the wine in front of the woman – Raphe? Whatever – because it’s mostly the women who order wine. But then he looks into her face and decides she’s more the whiskey kind of person. So the wine goes to the dark haired man – Mike apparently. His face really is a piece of art up close – and the last whiskey to blondie – and what kind of name is Luci anyway?
Luci frowns and Mike reaches out, takes the whiskey from him and hands him the wine instead. Dean lifts an eyebrow. Doesn’t happen often that he misjudges who ordered what.
Mike – Michael probably – leans back with a smile. “You underestimated how much of a drama queen my brother can be,” he tells Dean. It happens even less often that someone actually catches on to him assigning drinks by personality.
Lucifer huffs. “Sure ... I can’t just like wine.”
“I totally didn’t ...” Dean starts to protest, but the way the corners of Michael’s mouth twist into another smile makes him stop. He clears his throat. “Well, let me know, if you need anything else. I’m the one responsible for your table now.”
“We really did scare the other guy off, didn’t we?” he hears Gabriel say, while he walks back to the counter.
“You’ll scare this one off, too, if you keep staring at his ass.”
“You calling dibs, Mikey? Aww, of course you do, you smiled for him.”
“Sometimes I smile, Gabriel.”
“Yeah, like once a year or something.”
The evening progresses peacefully enough. Whatever the group on the corner table is talking about, they still stop every time someone comes near, and Dean is pretty sure, when Luci leans back at one point, he can see a gun holster underneath his jacket. But as long as they just sit there and drink and talk, everything is fine.
Then a new group lead by a red headed woman walks in, and none of the four people on the corner table tenses visibly, but there is an air of caution about them all of a sudden. The woman nods at them and they nod back and not even Gabriel is smiling now. Someone in the woman’s group makes a lewd gesture in their direction and her companions laugh. Michael puts a hand on Luci’s shoulder, even though the man hasn’t moved visibly. Raphe glares murder until the guy who made the gesture looks away.
“If anyone is making trouble for you,” Dean says, when he comes to take empty glasses from the corner table, “let me know and they’ll be kicked out.”
Michael lifts an eyebrow in surprise.
“Listen, I know you’re probably trouble too,” Dean says, “but you’ve been sitting here peacefully. Them?” He nods towards where the redhead is wolf whistling after Kevin right this moment. “They’re close to getting kicked out anyway.”
“I wouldn’t try that, if I were you,” Michael says. “But …” He shares a quick look, first with Raphe, then with Gabriel. “This has been a nice evening and we’d like to come back here.” Michael’s gaze lands on Luci. “We should help our host out, what do you think, Lucifer?”
Lucifer is even worse than Luci as a name, but it kinda fits the guy. The blond man grins. “I’ve been waiting for you to say something, brother.” He gets up and starts to walk towards the redhead and her company.
Before he can get far, though, Dean grabs him by the arm. “Thanks for the offer, but no fighting in here.”
Lucifer glares at him, then drops his eyes to where Dean’s hand is on his arm, but Dean will be damned, if he lets go now.
“No fighting,” Michael says with a smile. “I promise.”
For a moment they look at each other, and Dean finds himself wondering, if it’s true that Michael usually doesn’t smile that often. It’s a beautiful sight, that much is for sure.
Only when Lucifer clears his throat, does Dean remember he’s still holding the man by his arm. Finally he lets go. The blond man scowls at him, before he moves away. Dean turns to watch him with worry. Lucifer’s whole body language is one big provocation now. But he only talks to the readhead for a moment. She laughs in a derogatory sort of way, but then she nods to something he said. More lewd gestures from her companions follow him back to their table. Lucifer nods to Michael, and all of them get up at once.
Michael hands Dean a fifty dollar bill, which is more than what their drinks have been worth so far. For a moment their fingers brush, and a tingling feeling shoots up Dean’s arm, which totally shouldn’t happen. Sure, the guy is hot, but he’s trouble, too.
Then they’re gone and miraculously enough redhead and her goons trail after them soon.
When Dean returns behind the bar, Kevin heaves a sigh of relief. “Crowley says the woman’s name is Abaddon and she’s leaving a string of murders throughout the city right now, but no one can prove it.”
Fuck. Yes, it’s probably a really good thing that Dean didn’t have to throw her out personally. He kinda worries for Michael and his companions now, though. “Crowley’s here, too?” he asks. Dean is pretty sure Crowley is also dealing in some illegal business and he seems to have a thing for Kevin. That’s way too many troublemakers for one night..
The young man nods. “I can deal with him, though, don’t worry.”
“Fair enough. What else did Crowley say?” Yeah, okay, maybe Dean is curious, and maybe that’s at least in part because he still feels Michael’s touch, but so what? It can’t hurt to know more.
Kevin shrugs. “Well, the other guys ... The ones you waited on ... He says those are the archangels. Don’t look at me like that, that’s what they’re called on the street, because of their names. Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, Raphael. High level organized crime. Better to stay away from.”
Well, that fits what he had seen. “They seemed mostly nice,” Dean says anyway.
Kevin huffs in amusement and gives him a skeptical look.
“What?” Dean asks. “You’re the one talking to Crowley.”
“Crowley is afraid of those guys, Dean.”
“Is that supposed to make me like them less?”
Than makes Kevin laugh.
It takes a few days until it’s in the news. Dean is reading it in the paper one afternoon when there aren’t many guests and he has a bit of downtime between preparing drinks. There had been a gunfight in an alley not far away from here. Five dead, more must’ve been injured. It’s the same evening Abaddon and her gang had been making trouble in the bar, and Dean recognizes one of her companions on the pictures of people who died there. She isn’t among them, though, and none of the archangels is. The later makes him happy for some reason.
When he sets down the paper, there’s a man sitting at the bar right in front of him, dark hair, face a fucking piece of art. When Michael is sure he has Dean’s attention, he smiles. Then his eyes fall on the article Dean has been reading, and the smile fades away. Instead he looks at Dean as if he’s trying to discern what he’s thinking.
Well, Dean thinks some people had it coming. He isn’t particularly sad about troublemakers not coming back to his bar any time soon.
“Whiskey?” he asks Michael.
That brings the smile back. “A bit early for whiskey, don’t you think?”
“You look like you want one anyway.”
“True.”
“Trouble?” Dean asks, while he pours the drink.
“Not for much longer.”
Fuck, Dean really has a thing for confident people, and Michael basically is confidence incarnate. Even if he is technically ... maybe … very likely ... talking about murder. Dean glances at the newspaper again, and Michael follows his eyes looking almost curious now. As if he’s still waiting for a reaction to the news.
Dean puts his order in front of him. “It’s on the house. Small thank you for the favor you did me.” Maybe that’ll help clear it up.
Michael’s smile is something he could watch all day. “You’re welcome.” He takes the glass and watches the golden liquid swirl inside it for a while. “You know, Dean,” he says after a while, and Dean doesn’t ask how he knows his name. “There are still a lot of people out there looking for trouble. In fact there are more and more of them as we speak. This kind of favor could be a regular thing.”
“I’m not paying protection money.”
Michael makes a face at that. “Do I look like someone collecting protection money?”
No he doesn’t. He looks like he’s quite a few pay grades higher than that. And maybe that’s a reason to worry, but maybe that’s a good thing, too. Dean leans against the counter across from Michael and gives him a slow once over now that he’s practically invited to do so. Yeah, the guy is trouble, but apparently he has taken an interest in Dean anyway, so why not try and see how far this can go? “Didn’t know there was an upper limit to how hot you’re allowed to be for that kind of job.”
That makes the corners of Michael’s mouth twitch. He leans forward himself, close enough that Dean can smell his aftershave. “I want to make you an offer.”
“As long as it’s not the ‘We’ll make him an offer he can’t refuse’ kind of offer, I’ll listen,” Dean says. He isn’t stupid. He knows this part of town is getting worse. If he can come to some kind of agreement with one of the fractions that are unofficially ruling it, that might not be a bad thing. “Don’t try and screw me over, though.”
Again, the corners of Michael’s mouth twitch.
Dean wouldn’t have pegged him for the kind of guy to find this funny, but that’s a pleasant surprise. Always a good thing to know the people you’re dealing with have a sense of humor. He grins. “Not that kind of screwing. I’m totally up for that later – if I like what you have to say.”
Michael’s eyes twinkle in amusement. “In that case I’ll try and make it an especially good offer.”
“Can you do that?” Dean asks curiously. “What’s your boss gonna say about that?”
Michael just quirks an eyebrow up as if that was a stupid question. And it dawns on Dean that he might have slightly underestimated how high in the hierarchy the ‘archangel’ is.
“Fuck,” he breathes. This is going to be very interesting.
“Business first,” Michael says with another one of his smiles.
Very interesting indeed.

The angels tend to be my favourite characters. Especially Cas, Gabe, and Balthazar... And I 100% agrees with you!!! Absolutely every single thing you said was completely correct. All the characters just get tossed aside in order to give something to Sam and Dean. They exist for five solid minutes to make an angsty scene and then aren't talked about again unless they are the only thing that can help the Winchesters and it sucks - friend nonnie
Argh I wrote a whole answer to this before the app closed! (Here’s the condensed version maybe?) If Dean showed more emotion (crying or being sad when it’s not about him or Sam or to an extent Cas) it would be better (like they burned the picture of jo and Ellen after they died and that was the whole reason for the photo!) Sam was upset when Jess died (seeing her having nightmares all that even though some of it was his powers I think) but after that he was like shocked for a minute then okay. When Jo died Ellen was ready to die with her she couldn’t live like the boys where she just keeps going on with no one with her she lost her husband, Ash, Jo, and her bar on top of them. She had nothing and she decided she was ready, that is emotion and a reaction to a death. The boys don’t show anything when someone dies (when Sam was told that mark of Cain Dean got someone killed a random girl showed more emotion than him) Dean gets upset if someone even looks at his car (which I find hilarious and funny because I understand) but like he shows more emotion for his car than he does with people. They also hate it when angels do the same thing (or demons) where they let someone die or whatever and deans like you shouldn’t do that even though that’s what he does. Idk I wish there was more “chick flick moments” I guess? Like I wish they had more scenes of people talking about others and remembering the part and who they lost because that’s what people do? Like I know you can’t have them only do that but sometimes it would work. (I also talked about Rowena being killed and Sam felt bad but then she was immediately like queen of hell so it was different because she can do stuff like Crowley did, which I’m also sad he’s gone I liked him. And when she died he showed emotion about it because he had to do it and then it was poof gone until we see her again) (Ketch dies and they didn’t give a single shit they were, oh anyway, and just moved the fuck on, which like sure they didn’t like him but he died trying to help them and like Dean shot him to get the ghost out so I would’ve hoped he felt sorta bad about any of it but nope) (Dean felt sad whenever Benny died because he got him out and he helped him and Sam and then he died for them but I think it was more of a I saved him but then he wanted to die and I let him kinda thing rather than he died) (Plus Dean always tries to (and does) kill people??? The soulless dude from the ghost house with Amara, the monster mom trying to save her son, the werewolf sisters (before he found out they weren’t going to be okay plus tried to kill the one who was okay), the imaginary friends, like really I think Dean just doesn’t really (idk not doesn’t understand I guess understand the full extent or permentantness of death maybe) care about death? Like to him it’s they’re lost we’re not we can try to save the world or save our friends and I feel like he likes to be a hero but then gets overwhelmed??? Idk I love him but then sometimes (like trying to kill jack immediately, or the guy that had powers like Sam that killed his abusive family, or any of the others that had powers like Sam, or witches who aren’t bad and their familiars, the dude that almost ate his wife in the beginning, the girl the men of letters killed (Magda or something? She had powers like Sam and her family hated that), trying to kill Bobby’s wife and the other zombies, which later was what happened but he was like immediately going to kill them, etc.) Dean just decides that everyone who’s not perfectly human is bad (even Sam sometimes) idk it’s kinda upsetting because he wasn’t like that in the beginning and it wasn’t a character change it was more like they were suddenly saying he was a with me or die kinda person.
This doesn’t make any sense and I had a better written (actually almost shorter?) one that explained it more but I can’t think how to describe it Dean almost lets people die for him and Sam to live even his friends and doesn’t hesitate to threaten or kill people who don’t deserve it and as much as I love him sometimes I’m like that was fucked up). I hate that most characters are expendable (even characters like Becky who were added for a very specific reason without connections to anyone, just a fan of the book that chuck told to pass a message, suddenly getting dragged on and then killed suddenly). I love the angels on the show and sad they are all gone because I liked them I get some people had to die (or there wouldn’t be a plot or any cases for them to be on) but like they (the directors) shouldn’t kill everyone they (the Winchester’s) know for shock factor and never bring it up in the show.
