i haven’t really done smut before but i can try!
streamer vi! x streamer! reader
summary : vi fingers you while she lets you play on stream.
mentions : smut with a lil plot, modern au, fame au, plot twist, lowkey loser! vi
Vi had been a well-known name in the streaming world for a while, skyrocketing to fame after her The Last of Us playthrough went viral. Her genuine reactions, quick wit, and undeniable charm—along with the fact that she was, undeniably, hot—made her an internet sensation. Meanwhile, you had carved out your own space in the streaming community, building a dedicated following through your high-energy Roblox horror game playthroughs. People loved watching you scream at pixelated jumpscares, and your frequent collaborations with other big-name streamers only expanded your reach.
Your paths crossed during a crossover event that neither of you expected to lead anywhere—but after that first collaboration, you never stopped talking. Texting turned into late-night calls, which turned into video chats, and before you knew it, months had passed, and you'd both fallen hard. Moving in together felt like the natural next step, and soon, you found yourselves in a shared apartment with two separate, decked-out streaming rooms.
It was Vi who first suggested the idea of a joint stream. Just one game, babe. The internet’s gonna lose its mind. You didn’t need much convincing, and the next thing you knew, you were live on her channel, settled comfortably on her lap as you navigated the latest chapter of Poppy’s Playtime. Vi, however, wasn’t nearly as focused on the game as she was on you. Every time you hit a checkpoint, she pressed a slow, teasing kiss to your shoulder, her smirk widening at the way your concentration wavered. When you struggled with a puzzle, her hand slid over yours, guiding your movements effortlessly—but she didn’t pull away after helping. Instead, her fingers intertwined with yours, her chin resting on your shoulder as she murmured a low, “You got this, babe,” just for you.
The chat went absolutely feral.
The teasing started slow—just little touches that could’ve been innocent if not for the way Vi’s fingers lingered a little too long. At first, it was just her hands resting on your thighs, a casual, almost absentminded gesture as she watched you play. But then her fingers started tracing slow, deliberate patterns against your skin, inching higher with every passing minute.
You swallowed hard, your focus wavering as she casually slipped her fingers between your thighs, applying the slightest bit of pressure. Instinctively, you parted your legs just a little, the movement barely noticeable—but Vi noticed. Of course, she did.
Your breathing grew heavier, the game on the screen blurring in and out of focus as her fingertips skimmed dangerously close to where you were beginning to ache for more. But when you flicked your gaze toward her, expecting to find her watching you with that signature smirk, she wasn’t even looking at you.
Her face was the picture of nonchalance, her eyes glued to the computer screen as if she weren’t doing anything at all. As if she weren’t driving you absolutely insane.
You continued to focus on the game, looking at the chat every now and then and interacting with them. “Yeah I’ve never played this game before. Vi did the other ch—ah!,” you gasped as you felt Vi’s hand go into your panties.
Thankfully, something that was jumpscare worthy popped up on the screen covering up your gasp. Vi looked at you “You okay?,” she says innocently. You looked at her with a nod “Y-yeah,” you say. She took that as a sign to continue as she rubbed circles onto your clit, kissing your shoulder. You cleared your throat, trying to cover up the moan that almost escaped as you continued to play the game.
Your walls clenched around nothing as you tried your best to focus on the game as Vi continued to play with your bundle of nerves, creating a pool in your panties. “Fuck…,” you let out a moan, trying to cover it up as a sigh of frustration. “Just focus, baby. You got this,” she says.
She getting off on this as much as you were, grinding up against your ass slightly trying not to let the viewers see. The feeling soon stop, relief rushed over you but it was soon short lived when two fingers went inside of you. You bit your lip as you tried not to moan.
“Vi…,” you say shakily as she starts to pump her fingers in and out of you slowly. There were faint sounds of wetness from your arousal bring swished around with her fingers. It couldn’t be heard because of the game sounds. Vi used her other hand to help you with the game, putting her hand on top of yours. “There you go,” she says.
You didn’t know if she was talking about the game or you.
You continued to play the game as she slowly pumped in and out of your cunt. You leaned over slightly which made her fingers reach the spongy part of your insides, you unexpectedly let out a moan.
The chat started to explode wondering why you moaned. “I…hit my toe on the monitor,” you said. You bite your lip as you continued the game, this time Vi’s fingers didn’t move.
You needed them to move.
You took a quick peek at her and she only gave you a smile, a knowing one.
Suddenly, her fingers started to move faster than what they did before. You automatically clenched against them, but that didn’t stop the pace of her fingers.
You bite your lip as you try to focus on the game but then Vi spoke up. “We’re gonna continue this later tonight, you guys. Thank you for watching and remember to turn on your notifications for when I go live again,” she says before pulling her hand out of your shorts and ending the live.
She immediately attacked your lips with hers as she wrapped her hand around your neck, pulling you closer than what you already were. “Fuck. You’re so hot,” she says in between the kisses.
You thought she was going to go in for another kiss until she moved her hand from your neck and started to kiss your neck, leaving marks.
Her fingers made its way back into your cunt as she started to finger you at a fast pace, her thumb rubbing your clit. You moan loudly, it almost sounded pornographic as you put both of your legs on the desk, spreading them wider for her.
“You’re such a slut. Letting me finger you while we’re live. You enjoyed it didn’t you?,” she teased.
“Vi!,” you managed to get out. It was the only thing you could respond with besides your whines and moans. You were getting close and Vi knew from how tightly you were clenching to her fingers.
“Come on. Cum for me, pretty girl,” she says in your ear before harshly biting it. It only sent you over the edge.
“Fuck!,” you moaned out loudly as you came around her fingers. Vi’s pace slowed down as she helped you calm down from your high.
You whined when she finally pulled her fingers out, putting them in her mouth as she sucked your arousal off her fingers. When she was done, she grabbed your face and kissed you deeply. You kissed her back.
ping!
The sound made you guys both stop in your actions. You looked over at the computer. The camera was off, but the audio was still going.
The stream was still on.
Fuck.
“Vi! I thought you said you ended it!,” you said hitting her in the chest.
if you don’t like it…you can punch me in the tit.

It’s nearly midnight when you hear the familiar sound of Seungcheol’s key turning in the lock. You’ve been waiting for him all night, watching the clock tick steadily past the hours he usually gets home. Though you know how busy he can get with work, it doesn’t stop the small knot of worry from forming in your stomach. Seungcheol had let you know beforehand that he was going to come home late today but that didn’t stop you from waiting.
Had it been any other day you would have already gone to bed, but, it was Valentine’s Day, and you felt the need to stay up for him tonight. You didn’t mind him not being home for this special day—you knew how important work was for him, and it was something that you were okay with.
He would make it up for you. He always did.
Finally, the door creaked open, and there he was —your tired, overworked boyfriend, standing in the doorway with his suit still on. You can practically feel the weight of the day hanging around him. He looked exhausted, his broad shoulders slumped, a deep sigh escaping his lips as he slipped his shoes off.
You watched him for a moment, taking in the sight of him, knowing just how much he’d been pushing himself lately. You can see the strain on his face, the last thing he needs is to be left alone with his thoughts. You wouldn’t let that happen, not tonight at least.
You approached him before he could get too comfortable, stepping softly toward him while wearing one of his shirts paired with pink shorts that left nothing to the imagination. The kind that made you feel both cozy and confident. You crossed your arms, raising an eyebrow playfully, but there was a hint of concern behind your teasing gaze.
"You’re late," you say, a gentle accusation in your voice.
Seungcheol looks at you, his lips curling into a tired but genuine smile. "I know, I’m sorry," he says, his voice low, but you can hear the weariness in it. "It’s been one of those days."
You know exactly what he meant. He said it all the time. But it never stopped you from worrying, especially when he’s gone all day, getting caught up in the never-ending cycle of meetings, deadlines, and calls.
"You’re always saying that," you tease, but it’s softer than it sounds. "You’re always working so hard. Are you ever going to let me take care of you?"
A brief pause follows, and you see the hint of guilt flash across his face. You hate when he feels guilty, even though you know he can’t help it.
"I promise I’ll make it up to you," he says, stepping closer as if trying to reassure you—and maybe himself, too.
And he will make it up to you, one way or another. But before he can say anything else, you act on impulse. You reach for his tie, grabbing hold of it with a sudden surge of energy.
"Hey!" Seungcheol laughs in surprise as you pull him toward the couch. He stumbles slightly, but you guide him down easily, tugging him until he’s sitting down.
“Stop laughing,” you say, smirking. “I’m trying to help you relax.”
You sat on his lap, straddling him as your hands worked on his tie, undoing it with practiced ease. His jacket was already slipping off his shoulders, but you weren’t done yet. You could feel the stiffness in his body, the tension clinging onto him even after the long day. You won’t let him stay like this. Not while you’re here. Not while he was under you.
“Let me take care of you,” you murmured, the words soft but firm. "You deserve a break."
He chuckled, but there was something softer behind his laughter. "You always know what I need," he says, his voice low, a little tired but somehow full of affection.
You look at him as you work, your fingers deftly loosening his shirt, watching the tension melt away from his face as you carefully help him strip off the layers of his workday. There was something soothing about this process, it felt grounding in a way, especially when he leaned into your touch. His warmth was comforting—like a weight you’ve come to rely on, something that was as familiar as your own heartbeat. And him, just him - looked so good.
You’re so in love with this man.
“You always look so serious in that suit,” you tease again, glancing up at him. "It’s good to see you out of it for once."
Seungcheol smiles, a little tired but appreciative. "I’m serious about work, you know that."
“And I’m serious about making you relax,” you reply, your tone playful but affectionate. You begin to unbutton his shirt, your fingers brushing against his skin as you move down each button, carefully peeling away the layers of his day. “Just let me do this for you."
He doesn't fight you. Not really. Instead, he lets you, letting out a slow breath as he sinks into the couch, his hands resting high on your thighs. He looks like he’s falling into a peaceful calm, his posture loosening, the weight of the day falling away.
“Are you cold?” he asks suddenly, his voice soft, as he looks down at your pajamas.
You shrug, not really caring.“I’m fine,” you say with a smile. "But you—" You pause, your eyes flickering to his half-unbuttoned shirt and the tiredness still clinging to him.. "You’re not fine. Let me take care of you, okay?"
He smiles again, the fatigue melting from his eyes as he watches you work. He’s always so serious, always the one taking care of everyone else.
But tonight?
Tonight, he was yours to take care of.
And you clearly had something in mind to make him feel better.
You lean down to kiss him. He hums into the kiss, bringing you even closer to him, arms holding onto your waist tightly. He felt himself growing addicted to feeling the comforting warmth of your body. His tongue softly bit at your bottom lip, making you open up, welcoming his tongue to lick into your mouth. Your hands glide up on his chest to find the nape of his hair. He loves when your hands are in his hair, tugging at it, making him growl loudly. The atmosphere gets hotter from the kisses he gives you, you can’t help but let soft whines escape your lips.
Your reactions made Seungcheol smirk while he kissed you, but that wasn’t going to last for long. Instinctively, you roll your hips down onto him, making him groan against you. All you’ve done so far is kiss, but you both got so worked up—and you loved it.
You keep rolling your hips, small whimpers escaping your mouth as you chase any kind of friction you can get. Your hands slid down onto his shoulders, needing more support as you grinded harder against him.
Seungcheol could feel himself getting hard from the way you were grinding on him and from the way you were whimpering in his mouth. He grabs your hips tightly, shifting you right on top of his clothed cock. You don’t seem to notice at first, but when his cock twitches against your thigh, you pull away from him, staring down.
“Don’t stop moving,” he groans out, you feel his mouth on your neck, slowly biting down as he starts giving you hickeys. “Fuck, I love your moans so much, you sound so good for me.”
He pulled back from your neck so he could see how good you looked, only for him. He curses silently when he sees how much of a mess you are; flushed face, parted mouth letting out moans, and your eyes rolling back in pleasure. You could feel his clothed cock twitch under you.
“Your body is so hot Cheol, so warm, so hard.”
You were desperate in your movement and will to make him cum hard, knowing the man under you felt just as good. You felt proud knowing that it was you who was making him feel that way. You felt the need to get yourself off with him, you needed him.
His hands wandered down, grasping at your ass. He was no better than you, letting out low grunts every single time his hips rolled to meet yours. He helped you roll your hips, grinding harshly down on him.
Seungcheol could easily flip you over and fuck you hard on the sofa but he doesn’t. You had this special moment for him in mind, to pleasure him and he was more than content with where you were now. He tilts his head back, a hiss of air escaping from his clenched teeth as his fingers dig into your hips. He can't stop the little laugh that follows the exhale because you're driving him crazy. Your lips attack his throat as your hips descend sinisterly on his.
“Fuck...” he wanted to get all those clothes off but at the same time, the way you were rubbing against him felt too good. He couldn't even think about telling you what he wanted. He felt like he was going to cum like that.
“You're so hard for me Cheol.”
You hear his low laugh against your jaw before Seungcheol bites the flesh there. You were a fucking tease. He revels in the sound of your breath catching as he wiggles against your own arousal. Your trousers were soaking wet from wanting him so badly.
“You're trying to make me come like this”, Seungcheol's hand tangles in the hair on the back of your head, making you moan his name, as he pulls to look into your eyes. He laughs at the smile on your lips at his words and the feel of your hips rolling against his bulge.
“Will you Cheol? Cum with me just by doing this?” Your head fell on top of his shoulder, licking and biting the available skin.
His hands grip your hips, setting a pace for you as he grinds you harder against him. It doesn’t take long for you to cum, not when he’s holding you and letting out groans of your name. Watching you restlessly chasing your climax pushes him over the edge.
You enjoy the silence only the sound of you both breathing heavily can be heard, slowly coming down from your high. Seungcheol holds you regardless of how hot you two feel.
“Can we just stay like this for a while?” he murmurs, his voice almost barely above a whisper. "I haven’t been able to relax properly in so long."
Your heart swells, and without saying a word, you shift closer to him, resting your head against his chest. You love the feeling of his strong arms holding you; you would never refuse him. The familiar rhythm of his breathing, the warmth of his skin — that was all you needed to know that everything was okay.
"Yeah," you reply softly, your voice barely audible. “We can stay like this as long as you need.”
The world outside falls silent, and all that’s left is the sound of his heartbeat and your own, in your quiet home. You cherished these moments.
“I don’t deserve you,” he whispers after a long while.
You raise your head to look at him, your fingers gently brushing across his jaw. "You do," you reply simply, your voice full of affection. "You just need to remember how to breathe sometimes."
He smiles, a slow, genuine curve of his lips. "I’ll try to remember. Happy Valentine’s Day my love, I’ll make it up for you."
You know he will make it up eventually. It’s during moments like these—when his arms tighten around you— that you realize nothing else matters. Work, deadlines, all the pressures—those things can wait. What matters now is the peacefulness between you and the way you fit together in this small, quiet space.
For tonight, home isn’t a place. It was just the two of you, tangled together on the couch, wrapped in each other’s warmth, the world outside forgotten.

UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i bet you ten bucks my night is going worse than yours
YOU: that’s definitely impossible so i will happily take that bet and your money
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: remember how i’ve been doing todd’s son’s science project for the past week?
YOU: yeah because the kid sucks at science
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i finally finished it and gave it to todd today. he hated it and ripped it to shreds right in front of my face (i kinda blame this dumbass juice diet he’s on for him being much more of an asshole than usual). anyway, now i’m gonna have to spend all night doing a new project
YOU: holy fuck
YOU: you win
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i would like cash please
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: what bullshit are you being subjected to right now?
YOU: at 8 kristen said she didn’t want dinner because she wasn’t going to be “staying late tonight.” and then twenty minutes ago she asked me where her dinner was and gave me the most annoyed look when i said i didn’t have it….
YOU: now i’m waiting in the lobby for a delivery guy to get here with pasta :)
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: ouch
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: want some company down there?
YOU: are you just asking that because you want your money?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: maybe….
YOU: evil man!
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
“The joke’s on you because I don’t have ten bucks right now, so you’ll have to wait until tomorrow for your money,” You told Steve when he walked into the lobby.
“I was lying. I don’t care about the money. I really came down here to keep you company,” He said as he joined you by the front door.
You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at him. “Oh, whatever.”
He only smiled at you. “So, how much longer until the delivery guy gets here?”
You took another look at your phone and then showed it to Steve. “Less than a minute. His car’s down the street.”
“How annoyed is Kristen?”
“She got pulled into a Zoom call with the team in LA right after scolding me, so I’m ninety-five percent sure she hasn’t noticed I’m gone yet.”
“That’s good.”
“Is Todd gone for the night?”
You kind of had a feeling that you already knew the answer to your question because Steve looked more relaxed than normal; his white button-up shirt was untucked from his nice black dress pants and the tie that was around his neck and tucked under the collar of his shirt was loosened too.
“Yeah, he left right after destroying the science project.”
You shook your head in disbelief. “I still can’t believe that happened.”
Steve let out a tired sigh that you were certain wouldn’t be his last of the night. “What’s another suitable project for a fifth grader?”
“Sorry, but I’m not brushed up on the current fifth-grade education system,” You joked, giving him a teasing smile. When he didn’t match it, you held up your hands in mock surrender. “Okay, sorry, I’ll save all my jokes for when this is no longer a problem for you.”
His lips twitched upward in the smallest amused smile. “How many do you have?”
“Oh, a full stand-up set pretty much, but I’ll save it for tomorrow,” You said, trying to make your voice sound as serious as possible.
He smiled wider then and seeing him look at least a little less stressed felt like a success in your book. You knew that he would’ve done the same for you if the roles were reversed in this moment, and there were many times when he had done the same. Made a joke when you didn’t even know you needed to hear one, but it still made your day better, or told you a random story about nothing when you needed a breather from thinking about work.
This friendship you two had made your job feel a thousand times more bearable, and you were so glad that you met him eight months ago. That abrupt introduction had been another middle-of-the-night lobby situation like this one; when it seemed like everyone in the building was done and gone for the day, except for you two and your workaholic bosses. Both of you were waiting for meals from the same diner, which you didn’t even realize until your separate delivery drivers almost mixed up the orders. It was a mix-up that was luckily fixed before it descended into a bigger issue with your respective bosses.
You two ended up talking a lot on the elevator ride up to your floors and found out just how much you two had in common— both of you being assistants to insane bosses— and the rest was history.
“Thank you. That’s very considerate,” Steve said to you now, placing a dramatic hand over his heart, which made you laugh.
Before you could say something to keep this playful banter going, you noticed the car pulling up in front of the building. You met the delivery guy halfway and let out a quick “Thanks” when he handed over the food to you. You did a quick look through of what was in the bag and smiled in relief when you saw that everything was there.
“How long do you think you’re gonna have to stay tonight?” Steve asked you on the elevator ride back up.
“No idea,” You took a look down at your phone. “She’ll probably eat this once her Zoom call ends in thirty minutes, and then hopefully want to leave for the night.”
“Nice, then you’ll actually be able to get more than four hours of sleep.”
“Fingers crossed.”
The elevator came to its stop on the fifteenth floor and the doors opened, which marked your cue to leave.
You took a few steps and then turned around to face Steve again, giving him a quick wave. “Good luck tonight, Harrington.”
“Thank you. I’m gonna need it,” He responded, waving back as the doors finished closing.
You avoided looking at all of the empty cubicles that took over the space in the office— desks that had been left hours ago— and simply went to your desk that sat right outside Kristen’s office. You could faintly hear her talking through the shut glass door.
You used the downtime to busy yourself with random work rather than doing anything remotely interesting or simply taking a break and doing nothing. You double-checked what Kristen’s calendar schedule looked like for the next few weeks and made sure that everything was in order, and then you went to your work email although nothing new had come in in the last thirty minutes.
When the time hit 10:03pm and you heard the door open and then saw Kristen walk out, you stood up from your chair and grabbed the bag with the food off your desk.
“Hi, I have your dinner here.”
She gave you a confused look and it was then that you noticed that her coat was on and her purse was hanging on her shoulder. “I don’t want that. It was supposed to be an early night, remember? I’ll see you in the morning.”
You nodded immediately at her words instead of doing anything else. You, of course, did not tell her that she had asked you to get her food, and you of course definitely did not ask her if ten o’clock could really be considered an “early night” given that the night was pretty much already halfway done and it was basically Friday.
Nope, you didn’t say any of that, because even though Kristen was nothing but contradictory at times, which made your job absolutely suck, you still liked having one at the end of the day.
“Okay, got it. See you tomorrow,” You told her, forcing a smile.
She nodded at you and then her eyes fell to her phone as she walked off.
You let out a tired sigh once you were certain she was out of earshot and then sat down once again. You could’ve grabbed your own jacket and bag and followed suit, leaving for the night and getting more than four hours of sleep just as Steve had mentioned and you had crossed your fingers in the elevator hoping it would happen.
However, you didn’t slip on your coat or reach under your desk to grab your bag. Instead, you pulled out your phone.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
YOU: kristen’s gone for the night
YOU: do you want help with the science project?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: please yes. definitely. thank you.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
You and Steve stared at the blank tri-fold poster board as you two ate the Alfredo pasta that had been meant for Kristen.
The idea for the project had already been decided; it was some sort of chemical reaction thing, seeing how food coloring and dish soap react to being put in different types of milk. Steve showed you a video about it and it actually seemed really cool.
After finishing the pasta, doing the experiment itself took less than thirty minutes because everything you needed for it was luckily spread about both of your break rooms and then it was just a matter of typing everything up and making the poster board look nice.
“So, where does this situation lie on the worst things Todd has ever made you do? Is it breaking the top three?” You asked as you stood next to the printer on Steve’s desk and he typed away on his laptop.
“Definitely,” He didn't hesitate to answer. “I think this takes the third spot that was previously held by him making me drive to the airport two hours away to pick up his mom.”
“Fuck, I always forget about that,” You told him. “If we knew each other when that happened a year ago, I would’ve happily gone with you. I love a long car ride.”
“And I would’ve definitely taken you up on that offer because that was the worst drive ever.”
“God, how did you survive before we knew each other existed eight months ago?” You asked jokingly and hearing his initial laugh in response made you smile.
“It was really hard, I honestly don’t know how I managed,” He responded playfully, making you smile wider. “Has your top three with Kristen changed recently?”
“Nope, the third is the cheese incident, the second is the dog thing, and the first is still all of the shit I had to do the day she interviewed her favorite director for the website.”
You still considered that the worst day you ever had being Kristen’s assistant. She had wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for that interview she had been working for months to get with the infamous Matt Scott, so you had gotten stuck with doing a bunch of tedious tasks. It was still hard for you to look at Skittles and not feel immediate disdain because you had to sort through so many packs of them that day since he weirdly only liked the red and yellow ones.
The only good thing that came out of that day was that the interview went really well and it was what skyrocketed the website into how big it currently was, and it was still growing.
You remembered when you randomly stumbled upon the website three years ago. It was a mix of reviews, essays, and articles discussing movies and television shows, all of which interested you a lot, and you liked the website so much that you continuously kept up with it. And the day that you found out that the woman behind the entire thing needed an assistant, you jumped at the opportunity. It didn’t take you too long to realize that you hated being an assistant, but you were really good at it and you also really loved being a part of that environment; surrounded by other people who loved movies and TV and were actually making a living out of writing about it.
“I just learned that Todd loves one of the horror movies that that director did. ‘The Damned’ something I can’t remember the full title of it,” Steve said, not looking up from his laptop and continuing to type as he talked. He was a weirdly good multitasker; you’d learned that early on in your friendship, but it still always really impressed you.
“The Damned Rabbit,” You told him as you started cutting out the pictures on the pages you just printed. “That’s Kristen’s favorite too. I can usually stomach most horror movies, but that one was way too gory for me.”
“Do you think I would like it?”
“Didn’t you say that you got scared watching the Goosebumps show when you were a kid?”
Steve looked away from his laptop and at you then. “I honestly don’t remember telling you that, but yeah that’s true.”
You shrugged. “I remember all conversations we have regarding any TV shows or movies.”
His head tilted a bit and he gave you a look that you didn’t take notice of because you were focused on properly cutting out the pictures. “And I’m assuming you’re using that information to judge me and my taste.”
“No, of course not,” You told him, making your voice sound completely serious, and then you smiled. “I already know you have shit taste in movies, so there’s no need for me to collect any more data about that.”
He placed an overdramatic hand over his heart. “Ouch, that hurts. Truly. Badly.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as you finally looked at him. “Sorry, that was mean.”
“Very much so,” Steve agreed with a nod. “Please take that back and admit that I have the best taste ever.”
You shook your head as you smiled. “I’d rather not lie to you right now.”
He playfully rolled his eyes at you and then went back to focusing on his laptop. He finished typing out everything and then printed it all and you helped him cut everything out once you were done with the pictures. You two then set everything up in what felt like good places on the tri-fold and glued it down. The project definitely looked rushed, but it also looked like a fifth grader did it, so in your eyes it was perfect. And by the time one in the morning rolled around, both your and Steve’s tired eyes and lack of sleep thought it was the best thing either of you had ever done.
“I can’t wait until Christmas comes and he goes to New Jersey to visit his family,” Steve said as you two began the cleanup process. “I think I’m gonna go into hibernation for that entire week.”
You nodded in agreement, balling up scraps of paper and tossing them into the garbage and deciding against reminding him that Christmas was over two months away, and then you remembered something. “Kristen’s also from New Jersey.”
“Small world,” Steve said. “Y’know our bosses are actually really alike. Even aside from them being assholes a lot of the time, they kinda have a lot in common. From the same state, same favorite movie, same favorite food place.”
You nodded along to his words again, thinking about the fact that them both loving that small mom-and-pop diner twenty minutes away was the reason why you and Steve had met in the first place. “Yeah, you’re right.”
“Honestly, they’d probably be perfect for each other,” Steve joked with a laugh.
And even though you knew he was joking, you immediately didn’t see it that way.
“Oh my god,” You stopped what you were doing and looked at Steve, who was now looking at you very confused. “You’re right.”
His eyebrows furrowed as he shook his head. “I was kidding.”
“Yes, I know you were, but you’re actually so right. They would be perfect for each other,” You told him. “We should set them up.”
Steve only shook his head again. “Alright, I think the sleep deprivation is getting to you because you’re saying insane things right now. We’re not gonna get our bosses to date.”
You ignored his words. “I can’t believe we didn’t think of this idea before. It’s just like Clueless.”
“Okay, I have no idea what we’re talking about anymore.”
“You haven’t seen Clueless?”
“No.”
“Wow, and you wonder why I say your taste in movies is bad,” You said and then shook your head. “So, there’s this one part where the main girl decides to set up two of her teachers because one of them is a hard grader. And once he’s happy and in love, he starts giving all of the students good grades and whatever, whatever. Anyway, all of that to say, if we set up our bosses and they’re happy and in love with each other then they probably won’t be assholes to us anymore.”
After a few moments of considering your words, Steve nodded. “Honestly, that’s kind of a good idea.”
“Exactly,” You said and smiled. You were still very tired, but you were now also hit with a random burst of energy at the thought of your job maybe becoming a lot less annoying.
“So, how do we do this?” Steve asked.
You considered his question for a second. “Okay, so as far as we both know they’ve never met each other, which means that we need to get them to meet and we need to give them a good meet cute.”
“Okay…” Steve started, thinking of something as he sat back down in his desk chair and you leaned back against the desk. He looked up at you. “What about the elevator? Maybe we can figure out a way to get them stuck in it together? That’s a classic ‘meet cute,’ right?”
“That’s good, but it doesn’t feel like enough,” You said, looking away from him and trying to think of romcoms you liked, and then it hit you. “Oh, what if we got them on the kiss cam at like a basketball game or something?”
The amused look that Steve gave you in response was immediate. “Okay, now I definitely know that the sleep deprivation is getting to you because doing that would be impossible.”
“Yeah, but maybe not if we…” You trailed off, hoping that the rest of the idea would come to you, but it didn’t. “Shit, you’re right. It would be impossible. Elevator it is.”
Steve nodded. “I actually know the maintenance guy that works here, so it’ll probably be easy to get Todd and Kristen stuck together.”
Your eyebrows knit together in confusion. “How do you know the maintenance guy?”
“Long story,” He answered and you decided against questioning him further on it right then.
“If it wasn’t one in the morning, I’d love to hear that,” You said, and then you almost asked him when you two should put this plan into motion, but you realized something. “Wait, shit, we can’t just get Kristen and Todd into an elevator and hope for the best. We need to, like, ‘plant some seeds’ first. Make them aware of each other and these few things that we know they have in common.”
“Oh, okay, yeah, that makes sense.”
“So we just need to subtly mention to both of them that they’re from the same state and that they have the same favorite movie and food place,” You continued.
Steve’s confused look returned. “And how do we do that?”
“Great question,” You said and for a second you considered trying to think of an answer right then, but your brain was too tired to come up with any ideas. “I’m not sure yet, but we’ll figure it out.”

The printer was on its last few days of life. You were certain of it, but you just needed it to survive a few more minutes before it completely croaked out on you.
“Please just ten more pages and then I promise you can go into retirement.”
“Are you talking to the printer again?” Steve asked from where he was currently sitting at your desk.
After Todd left for the night at ten, Steve showed up at your floor, knowing that Kristen had been gone for the last hour, but you were still stuck in the building and working on preparing everything for a meeting on Monday.
You looked over at him. “Sometimes Jerry needs some words of encouragement.”
“Got it. That makes sense,” He responded teasingly with a nod.
“I don’t appreciate the sarcasm tonight, Steven,” You said as you turned your focus back on the printer, and Jerry was printing out the final few pages.
“Doesn’t me helping you right now cancel out the sarcasm?”
You promptly shook your head. “Not after the science project last night.”
“Alright, that’s fair,” He responded and once you sat down next to him after everything was finally printed out, he looked at the stack of papers in your hand. “How many packets do you have to make?”
“Twenty,” You answered. “And then I need to do the name cards and set everything up in the conference room.”
“Okay. Let me get half of the stack,” He said and you handed over half of the papers in your hand.
You two easily fell into a routine for the next thirty minutes, a comfortable silence lingering as you focused on the mundane task at hand and let your mind wander a bit. The initial excitement you had toward the “set up” idea had worn off by the morning and instead your non-sleep deprived brain was now thinking about it all from a much more logical standpoint.
“Do you think it would actually work?” You asked once you two were in the conference room, you placing name cards down and Steve setting out the packets. “Us trying to set them up?”
He gave you an amused smile. “You’re second-guessing things already? I thought I would be the one to do that.”
“I don’t know,” You shrugged. “I’ve just started thinking that maybe it will be a waste of time.”
You decided against adding that your reasoning for thinking that way was because your and Steve’s life wasn’t a movie and maybe this idea did sound a bit too good to actually end up working as well as it did when it was a plot point in any film. And the thought of Kristen somehow figuring out what you and him were doing and firing you because of it kind of scared you too.
“Okay, yeah, maybe it won’t work,” Steve said. “But, why not try, right?”
You considered his words for a moment before ultimately nodding. It felt a little unexpected, but also completely reassuring, that he was entirely on board with the idea and didn’t seem to have any second thoughts about it. “You’re right. Maybe we’ll at least get a week or two of them being decent to us.”
Steve nodded in agreement. “Yeah, exactly, and that would be great.”
You shook your head and let out a quiet laugh as you thought of something. “Jesus Christ, I can’t believe the bar is so low that the thought of our bosses being nice to us for a week or two sounds amazing.”
Steve laughed too, a quick one that matched your own. “Shit, yeah, that’s actually a little sad.”
It would be a thousand percent sadder if you didn’t have each other through this shitty nonsense, but you didn’t tell him that right then. Instead, you gave him a small smile and placed down the last name card you had in your lap.
“I have some ideas about how we should ‘plant these seeds’ and get them to learn about each other without them knowing that we’re doing that,” Steve said after he set down the last packet.
You were technically officially done for the night, but neither of you made any move to leave the conference room just yet. You sat down in one of the rolling chairs and Steve took a seat in the one across from you.
“I kinda love that the tables have turned and you’re the one that’s super into this whole thing and I’m being slightly hesitant,” You told him, the smallest amused smile on your face.
“Yeah, you corrupted me and now you’re backing out.”
You couldn’t help but laugh at how playfully serious his voice sounded. “I promise I’m not backing out. Tell me all of your ideas, Harrington.”

MONDAY
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i “accidentally” emailed todd the video of the interview kristen did with the horror movie director guy and he ended up watching the entire thing
YOU: solid work
YOU: and on my side of things, i mentioned the new jersey thing to kristen when she brought up thinking about going home for the holidays and she actually found it a little interesting
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: also solid work
TUESDAY
YOU: okay kristen said she wants to get food from the diner for lunch. what about todd?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: he wants it too. it surprisingly took very little convincing to get him to quit the juice diet
YOU: great. i’ll see you in the lobby in 30 minutes
YOU: wait i’m just now realizing how horrible this can go for us if we switch their lunches just for them to learn that they have the same favorite restaurant. maybe we should just say that the lunches “almost” got switched and still make the comment about how the person that it almost got switched with really loves the place too? that’ll let them know that they have the same fave restaurant without them getting mad at us for fucking up their lunches
YOU: or maybe i'm just overthinking this
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: no you're right. that’s a better idea
WEDNESDAY
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: slight change of plans. we have to push the elevator thing to tomorrow
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: the maintenance guy’s not here today
YOU: okay
YOU: i was gonna ask if we should take this as a sign to not do it at all but i’m not gonna say that actually…
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: it’s not a sign
YOU: good thing i didn’t say it was then :)

You made it to the maintenance room before Steve. Mainly because you were a little nervous to see how all of this would end up playing out, and being two minutes early somehow helped ease your worries a bit.
When you walked in, you immediately saw a guy with long curly hair wearing a black t-shirt and dark jeans and sitting at a desk with two computer screens; you assumed he was the maintenance guy Steve talked about.
You gave him a quick wave and then held out a hand. “Hey, nice to meet you.”
His hand shook your outstretched one and quick introductions were said where you learned his name was Eddie and he and Steve went to high school together and were now friends; which wasn’t as long of a story as Steve had initially made it out to be.
“So, you’re the infamous ‘girl from work.’”
You let out a laugh at Eddie’s words. “Steve’s mentioned me before?”
Eddie nodded. “Oh, he talks about you a lot.”
Before you could say anything in response to that, Steve walked into the small room.
“Sorry, I’m late,” He said, even though he was actually right on time. He looked at Eddie and a confused look crossed his face. “Where’s Wayne?”
“He still has the flu, so he wanted me to cover for him today,” Eddie answered. “But, he told me what you guys wanna do, so I got it.”
“Okay,” Steve nodded and then he gestured between you and Eddie. “You two met?”
“Yes, and I just learned that you allegedly talk about me a lot,” You said and gave him a teasing smile.
You immediately noticed his face flush at your words, which actually kind of surprised you and for the briefest second you wondered what that reaction meant, but then he was playfully rolling his eyes at you. “It’s only so my friends know that I don’t completely hate my job.”
“Glad to know that I’m the only one who makes your job somewhat tolerable,” You said, smiling wider at him. “The feeling’s very mutual.”
You looked away from him then and focused on the computer screens. Eddie had now pulled up the video feed of the security camera in the lobby on one side and the hallway where the main elevators were on the other screen.
“So, Kristen should be getting back from the coffee shop down the street any second now,” You told Steve. “She always likes going right before they close for some reason.”
He nodded at your words. “Okay, and Todd is still in the lobby talking to Martha about getting a new building ID, and they should be done any second too.”
“I still don’t get how you managed to get her to call him down for that.”
He gave you a smile. “The ladies at the front desk love me.”
“Honestly, that makes a lot of sense,” You responded. “You are the type of person that old ladies would love.”
“I’ll happily take that as a compliment.”
“Remember how all the moms in town were completely obsessed with you during your lifeguard days?” Eddie chimed in, a grin on his face.
Steve rolled his eyes in response, and you laughed while saying, “Of course, you were a lifeguard. That makes so much sense too.”
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “How?”
You shook your head. “I don’t know how to explain it, but just know that it does. And I mean it in a nice way.”
Steve tilted his head and squinted at you. “I don’t know if I believe you.”
“Trust me, I’m your best work friend. I’d never lie to you,” You said, holding a solemn hand to your heart, and he couldn’t help but let out a laugh.
You looked at the screen again and saw that Todd was still talking to Martha, and Kristen was still nowhere to be seen.
You tapped Eddie on the shoulder to grab his attention. “If one of them gets to the elevator before the other is there, is there any way that you can not let the elevator come?”
He nodded. “Yeah, that’s fine.”
Luckily, and surprisingly enough though, it didn’t have to come to that. Because finally Kristen was walking back into the building and heading toward the elevators, and seconds later Todd’s conversation with Martha was coming to an end and he was heading in the direction of the elevators too.
Kristen pressed the up button and then her eyes went down to her phone in her hand, and Todd joined her in waiting after a few moments. Absolutely nothing was said between the two of them, not even when the elevator arrived and they got on together. Which, honestly, made sense to you because you rarely ever talked to the strangers you ended up in an elevator with.
“How do you stop it?” You asked Eddie after he switched the camera to the one in the elevator.
“There’s something to press that stops them for emergencies,” He explained as he got up from his chair and went over to a panel on the wall. “And there’s also an intercom here to talk to them so they don’t freak out or start panicking.”
He then pressed the stop button for the elevator Todd and Kristen were on. “Did it work?”
You and Steve both responded with a quick “Yeah” at the same time. You noticed the confused looks cross your bosses faces and you saw Todd reach out to press the emergency button, but Eddie was speaking through the intercom before he could.
“Hey, sorry about that, guys. It’s just an electrical issue and it should be fixed in about fifteen to thirty minutes.” He looked at you and Steve again. “Alright, let’s see if your matchmaking thing works.”
It was quiet at first. So quiet that you couldn’t help but wonder if this was actually the worst idea ever. You and Steve were “playing cupid” for two people who only had a few things in common, and it was all for entirely selfish reasons.
“I’m just now realizing how insane this whole thing is,” You told Steve, looking away from the screen that showed Todd and Kristen still not talking to each other.
“You’re just now realizing that? That was pretty much the first thing I told you when you suggested this,” Steve reminded you.
“I know, I know,” You started. “But now seeing it actually happen is making me understand that.”
Eddie turned around in his chair and looked up at you two. “Do you guys want me to start the elevator back?”
Both you and Steve had the same immediate answer of, “No.”
You kept going after a second. “This will either be the best thing ever or the complete opposite, but I think we should just see it through, at this point, right?”
In this moment, it seemed like things were leaning more toward the “absolute worst” side of the spectrum, but it didn’t make you entirely change your mind about doing it, and it didn’t make Steve disagree with you either. “Right.”
“Okay,” Eddie shrugged as he turned back around. “For what it’s worth, I don’t think this is that fucked up of an idea.”
You nodded, even though he couldn’t see you. “Okay, cool, so we’re not completely terrible and manipulative people for doing this.”
“Well, I didn’t say that,” Eddie responded and Steve whacked his arm.
You didn’t say anything and instead looked at the computer screen again.
“Come on. Talk,” You mumbled. “Talk to each other.”
“They can’t hear you,” Steve jokingly whispered to you.
Before you had the chance to make a sarcastic comment back to him, there was finally something coming from the computer’s speaker.
“Hey, you did that interview with Matt Scott, right?” Todd asked Kristen.
She nodded. “Yeah, I did.”
“I just watched it a couple of days ago. It was really good,” He said, and at that, Kristen smiled.
From there, it felt like the equivalent to watching a movie; and you could inwardly recognize how weird that sounded. They introduced themselves to each other and then continued to talk about that horror movie director they both loved, and they eventually bonded over the few things that you and Steve had told them about one another too.
Thirty minutes passed quicker than expected and you and Steve ended up sitting in two folding chairs that were in the small room and sat next to Eddie as you watched your bosses have what seemed like a really good conversation. It didn’t seem as if it was coming to any sort of an end just yet, but you and Steve still had Eddie start the elevator back up again. And before Kristen got off on her floor first, they exchanged phone numbers— which shouldn’t have at all been surprising, but it still kind of was.
You looked at Steve once the doors closed and it was just Todd left in the elevator. “Woah.”
He nodded, agreeing with your one word that said a lot more than just that. “Wow.”
Eddie laughed a little. “Nice work playing cupid for these two.”
You felt relieved, but not entirely so. “We’ll see if it actually works.”

Incoming call from UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Steve rarely ever called you.
It just never made sense with how crazy your jobs were, so you two always settled for texting. Apparently, this moment was different, though.
However, before you could make any move to answer your phone, you were getting called into Kristen’s office, and your heart was abruptly falling into your stomach because suddenly the timing of Steve's phone call felt like it had something to do with whatever conversation you were about to have with Kristen.
“Hey,” You said, trying to make your voice sound as normal, and not worried, as possible. “Is everything okay?”
She looked up from her phone and then smiled at you. “Everything’s really good, actually. I’m going to be leaving early today, so you can head out too.”
That wasn’t at all what you were expecting her to say, but you attempted to hide your complete shock.
“Oh, okay,” You ultimately responded. “Are you sure?”
You regretted asking the question the second you said it, but this entire moment felt like some sort of trick or test, so you felt the immediate need to question it.
“Yeah, it’s Friday,” She said as if that explained everything, which it did not. “You can have a half day for once.”
You were convinced that this had something to do with Todd, but you still wanted some sort of confirmation. “Special occasion?”
“Remember yesterday when I told you about getting stuck in the elevator for half an hour?” She asked, and when you nodded she continued. “Well, I exchanged numbers with the guy I was stuck with because we had a really nice conversation when we were in there, and five minutes ago, he called asking to go to lunch and then to see this movie that we talked about in the elevator. It’s the last day it’s playing at that small theater on the other side of town.”
You nodded along to her words. “That sounds great.”
“Oh, and funnily enough, it’s the guy that you mentioned a few days ago who works upstairs and is from Jersey, and our food almost got swapped from the diner,” She laughed a little— happily, dreamily— like a woman with a crush. “Isn’t that crazy?”
There was absolutely nothing about how Kristen said those words that should’ve made you think she knew what you and Steve had done, but still, you couldn’t help but think it.
Which made you force a nervous smile as you once again nodded. “Yeah, so crazy. Small world. Or, well, in this case, I guess small building.” You laughed awkwardly at your non-joke and then immediately kept going. “Anyway, I hope you have a fun time with him today. See you Monday.”
Kristen’s eyes were back on her phone, smiling again as she waved at you in goodbye and you proceeded to quickly leave her office.
You called Steve back the moment you were at your desk again. He picked up on the second ring and the first thing he said was, “It actually fucking worked. He asked her to go to lunch.”
“I know,” You whispered, even though all you really wanted to do in that moment was let out the happiest sound ever. “Where are you right now?”
“Todd’s letting me leave since he’s leaving, so I’m about to head down to the lobby.”
“Okay, I’ll meet you there. I’m gonna grab my stuff and immediately run away from my desk before Kristen can call me back into her office and tell me that this was all some sort of elaborate prank,” You said and then hung up, stuffing your phone in your pocket and grabbing your bag from underneath your desk.
You waved happily at Steve when you exited the elevator in the lobby and barely a second later he was pulling you into a hug. Even though that was something that had never happened before, you didn’t hesitate to return the action, wrapping your arms around him too and smiling into his shoulder.
“You’re a genius for this idea,” He told you, words hitting right at your ear.
“Technically, you came up with it,” You reminded him when you two pulled out of the celebratory embrace.
“Okay, in that case, I’ll happily take the credit for all of this then,” Steve said and smiled at you.
You playfully poked his arm. “What I meant is that we both should get credit for this plan working. You kinda came up with the initial idea and I came up with all the nitty gritty stuff.”
He shook his head. “That’s not entirely true, actually. Who came up with the elevator meet cute?”
You knew that he wanted you to say him, but you refused to give him the satisfaction so you simply shrugged instead. “A shitty Hallmark movie, probably.”
“Ha ha, good one,” He said as he rolled his eyes at you.
“Thank you, I’ll be here all week. Actually, that’s not true because we finally just got a day off,” You smiled as you and Steve headed into the lobby. “This is the first time I’ve had a Friday off in the past two years of working here, I honestly have no idea what to do now.”
The thought of spending the rest of the day, and then night, catching up on sleep sounded very tempting to you, and it only felt a little sad that you’d be completely sleeping away a Friday when you finally had the opportunity to do something even the tiniest bit fun.
“Do you want to come to a birthday party for my best friend/roommate tonight?” Steve asked. “We’re having it at our place and I thought I’d have to miss it because I was gonna be stuck here all night, but now I won’t be, and you should come.”
Initially, you smiled at his offer and you felt the urge to accept it on the spot. But then your brain couldn’t help but consider what saying yes would mean. You and Steve had never hung out outside of this building, and the few food spots that were on the same street as this building, before. Although you two were friends, you couldn’t lie and say that it didn’t pretty much start and end at work; mainly because that was what consumed most of your time.
“Wouldn't that be kinda weird?” You ultimately asked, deciding against verbalizing exactly what you were thinking about. “I don’t think I’d want a random girl from my best friend’s workplace to be at my birthday party.”
“You’re not a random girl. I talk about you all the time, remember?” Steve said, reminding you of Eddie’s words from yesterday, and the playfulness in his tone made you smile.
Instead of asking more questions— like what it would mean to take your work friendship into normal friendship territory, and whether it would even easily happen— you were simply agreeing and saying, “Okay.”

“I brought alcohol,” You said when Steve opened his door and then you held up the two bottles of tequila you bought on your drive over to his apartment.
He shook his head at you but still smiled as he pushed the door open further to let you in. Seeing him out of his typical professional work clothes and in a simple white t-shirt and jeans was a nice surprise that honestly shouldn’t have been all that surprising. “You didn’t have to do that.”
“It’s physically impossible for me to show up to places empty-handed,” You looked around the decently sized space as Steve closed the door behind you. There weren’t that many people in the apartment yet, you only noticed two girls leaning back against the small kitchen island and talking. You turned to look at Steve. “Shit, am I too early?”
Your hands were full so you couldn’t pull your phone out of your denim jacket pocket to check the time, but you had a feeling what it would say. After working for Kristen for the past two years, it was pretty much ingrained in you to never be late anywhere, and most times you inadvertently ended up being early.
“A little bit, yeah. But, that’s fine,” Steve told you with a shrug. “I’m glad you’re here early. It’ll probably make it easier for you to meet everyone.”
He then introduced you to the girls talking in the kitchen; his roommate and best friend Robin and her girlfriend Vickie.
“Hi, you’re my new favorite person,” Robin told you when she noticed the alcohol in your hands.
“Thank you,” You laughed a little as you set it down on the counter, joining the other bottles that littered it. “Happy Birthday.”
“Thanks,” She smiled at you. “How are your karaoke skills?”
The randomness of the question slightly surprised you. “Absolutely terrible, but when I’m drunk I love doing it.”
“Perfect,” She said. “You and Steve have to do a duet when we go to this karaoke bar later. The last time we went, he got so drunk he sang Footloose three times in a row.”
“I will admit, each time was very great,” Vickie chimed in.
“Yeah,” Robin agreed. “He surprisingly has a really good voice.”
You smiled and tried your hardest not to laugh at the thought of the Steve you’d grown to know over the past eight months getting drunk and singing karaoke. “Please tell me there’s video proof of that.”
“Oh, of course,” She nodded and went to pull her phone out of the pocket of the high-waisted pants she was wearing.
“Okay, and before things get even more embarrassing for me right now,” Steve reached out to grab your hand and pull you out of the conversation. “Let me give you a quick tour of the apartment.”
You were laughing as you let him drag you away from his friends. “You’re suddenly such an attentive host.”
He pointed out the bathroom and Robin’s room down the hall and then led you to his room.
“It’s clean,” You said, pointing out the obvious. His bed was made and there weren’t any clothes or other random things littering the floor.
Steve let out an amused laugh at your words. “I’m scared to know what you expected it to look like.”
“I don’t know, honestly,” You shrugged as you leaned back against his dark wood desk that was tucked in a corner. “You definitely wouldn’t want to see my room right now. It’s a complete mess from me trying to decide what to wear tonight.”
You had ended up settling for the first things you had pulled from your closet— a long sleeve black shirt and a brown plaid skirt that was shorter than you had remembered but still really nice— so the clothes that had ended up making your bed a mess and floor a tripping hazard felt like a sad waste of time. And now knowing how early you had shown up to the party, you probably could’ve prioritized cleaning up before you left your home in a rush.
“You look nice,” Steve told you, and you didn’t expect to feel so affected by his words— which you knew were just a simple compliment by a friend— but you did. “Do you want me to take your jacket?”
“Yeah, sure,” You pulled off the dark denim jacket you were wearing and handed it over to him, and he went to place it on the hook behind his open door.
“So, what did you do after we were set free?” He asked as he sat at the foot of his bed. You got the sudden urge to join him, but you didn’t, deciding to stay right where you were at his desk.
“I had the best four-hour nap of my life and then I played really dumb games on my phone while still in bed,” You answered. It had been the most perfectly boring evening. “What have you been up to with your past free hours?”
“I also took a nap, and then I watched Clueless.”
A smile immediately started to tug at your lips. “No, you didn’t.”
“I did,” He nodded. “It felt like good timing.”
“I think good timing would’ve been if you watched it before we did the plan, but better late than never,” You said and then asked the important question. “Did you like it?”
He gave you another nod. “Yeah. A lot more than I expected to, actually.”
“Nice, I knew there was a part of you that had, at least, a kind of good taste in movies.”
“I’m still very offended that you think it’s mainly bad.”
“You told me that one of your favorites is the first Fast and Furious movie, and that was all I needed to know,” You said and then gave him a smile. “It’s honestly funny because an article about the entire series was actually the first thing I read on Kristen’s website.”
“And did it speak highly of the franchise?”
You nodded, holding back a laugh. “For the most part, yes. Surprisingly. I’ll find the link later and send it to you.”
“Thank you,” He said and then a beat of silence lingered before he asked, “Hey, is that why you work for Kristen? Because you eventually wanna write for the website?”
“Yeah, kinda, yeah,” You started with a quick nod. “It didn’t initially start that way. I just loved the website and wanted to be a part of it in any way I could. But, the thought of actually writing has only become more and more interesting to me, and yeah I think I wanna do that sooner than later.”
“You should let me read something you’ve written.”
Your head shake was immediate. “No way.”
“Why not?”
“One, because that’s embarrassing. And two, because I haven’t even finished anything yet because of how busy I always am.”
“Well, we’re gonna start having a lot of free time on our hands, so it’s the perfect time for you to actually finish something,” Steve told you. “And also the perfect time to let me read it once it’s done.”
“I’ll think about it,” You ultimately conceded and then proceeded to shift the subject away from yourself. “What about you, though? Why do you work for Todd?”
“Honestly, I don’t really know. My dad helped me get the job, actually, which is a long story in itself. I initially hated it a lot more than I do now, but I knew that my dad would give me shit if I quit. And he probably still would,” Steve explained. Just from the brief way he talked about his dad, you could sense how tense that relationship was, and you really wanted to know more about it, but you didn’t push further in that moment. “I don’t even like this finance stuff, but I still don’t really know what I really want to do, so I’m kinda okay with dealing with Todd and all of his bullshit.”
You nodded understandingly. “That makes sense. You never once gave me ‘finance bro’ vibes.”
Steve tilted his head at you amusingly. “What does that mean?”
“You’re not an asshole mixed with a huge hint of douchebag.”
He let out a laugh which made you smile. “Thank you. That really means a lot.”
“You’re very welcome,” You told him, still smiling and matching his playful tone. “Okay, okay, enough work talk. We need to use our freedom to its maximum potential.” An idea was hitting you as you stood up from his desk. “Let’s get drunk.”
Another brief amused laugh fell from Steve’s lips, but he still nodded at your words. “Solid idea.”
It had been a long time since you drank so your tolerance was terrible. You felt effectively drunk after just two shots— one with Steve to celebrate being free from work and then a birthday shot with Robin that she made everyone do once more people showed up— and you forced Steve to keep up with you, which he happily did. He was five shots in to your three and both of you were on the same level; a level that also exceeded everyone else at the party.
You learned that the initial plan was to “pregame” here at the apartment for an hour or two and then head to the karaoke bar that Robin had mentioned earlier and spend the rest of the night there. However, you and Steve took pregaming to an entirely different level.
You two ended up staying in your own little bubble for most of the night— holed up on a spot on the couch as you talked only about non-work related things for the first time probably ever. You wondered if this bubble was because Steve wanted to make you feel comfortable in this space where you didn’t really know anyone aside from him, and Eddie kinda, but you didn’t question it.
A friendship that had initially felt as if it had started and ended at work easily shifted into something else as you two learned random things about each other and exchanged silly stories that could be deemed as unimportant nonsense, but it didn’t feel that way coming from a person that you really cared about. And it was when you were laughing and telling Steve about the time you crashed into your childhood neighbor's mailbox just one day after you got your license when you were sixteen— a story that you couldn’t remember the last time you told anyone because of how embarrassing it was— you realized that there was something entirely different about Steve.
What you and he had wasn’t just a work friendship, and even now in this space outside of work, it also didn’t feel like a normal friendship either. Maybe it was never supposed to be limited to something as simple as that.
There was an unfamiliar feeling that settled in your stomach as you watched him happily stand next to his best friend and hold the cake that she blew the candles out of moments after everyone loudly sang “Happy Birthday” in the kitchen. You quickly pushed the sudden feeling away because it felt easier to not think about it for the time being.
You and Steve ended up back on the couch again after the cake was cut and you two shared a piece, a corner slice that you both thought was the most perfect thing you had ever seen.
At some point, you couldn’t tell exactly how much time had passed, Robin came over to the two of you. You noticed the amused smile take over her features as she looked at the close proximity between you and Steve; there wasn't an inch of space between you two because you both wanted the plate to balance equally on your laps. “I think you guys have had more than enough to drink tonight, so you should just stay here.”
“You sure?” Steve asked, looking up at her.
She nodded. “Yes, I’m positive. If you puke in the karaoke bar and we get banned I’ll never forgive you, dingus.”
“That’s fair.”
You looked up at Robin and smiled. In a way, it felt wrong that your conversation with her had been so limited earlier, she seemed really nice. “Happy birthday again.”
She smiled back at you. “Thanks again.”
The apartment became empty minutes later and the quietness reminded you of when you had first showed up. There was still music coming from the speaker set up in the living room, but Steve got up from the couch to lower it and then it became a soft hum in the background.
“I’m sorry I suggested the getting drunk idea,” You told Steve as you grabbed the now empty plate in your hand and stood up to toss it in the trash in the kitchen; with your drunkenness, it was a task that felt as if it took forever. “I messed up your night with your friends.”
You saw Steve shake his head when you turned to look at him again. He joined you where you were in the kitchen and grabbed a couple cups off the counter to throw them in the trash can. “I’m happy here with you.”
“Is that because you really didn’t wanna do our duet and because I can help you clean up the mess in here right now?”
“Sure.”
You wanted to ask him what he meant by that, because it felt as if there was much more to that one-worded response, and even in your current inebriated state you could see that. Instead, though, you were asking, “Why are we friends?”
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the randomness of your question. “Because we met that night in the lobby eight months ago?”
You shook your head. “No, I mean, why are we just friends?”
You weren’t sure why you were suddenly asking this— or even where your abrupt courage was coming from to ask it— but in this moment, with you two standing in his barely lit kitchen, it somehow felt right.
Your question was met with silence, though, and that lack of a response from Steve made you suddenly feel as if you actually shouldn’t have asked that question; because maybe it said way too much.
“Oh, actually, never mind,” You abruptly said and pulled your eyes away from his, and went to grab the half-full red solo cup off the kitchen counter to toss it in the garbage.
However, in what should’ve been a short and simple journey to the trash can, you roughly bumped into the side of the counter and spilled the entirety of what was leftover in the cup on yourself.
“Shit.”
“Shit,” Steve immediately echoed, looking at the mess on the lower part of your shirt and the front of your skirt. “Um, let’s grab you something to change into.”
Wordlessly, you nodded and followed him to his bedroom. You weren’t entirely sure what you were more embarrassed about— you spilling a drink on yourself and now smelling so disgustingly like alcohol or the stupid question you asked him that led to this happening.
“You can grab whatever you want from in there,” Steve told you and pointed toward what you assumed was his closet. “I’m gonna get a towel for you.”
“Thanks, I’m sorry about all of this. I swear I’m not usually this annoying of a drunk person,” You joked because it felt like the only right thing to do in that moment.
“You’re not annoying,” You heard Steve say from somewhere behind you.
You wanted to follow up with another sort of playful and witty response, but you couldn’t think of what to say. So instead, you silently pulled a long-sleeved white button-up off a hanger and turned back to Steve, who handed over a towel for you.
You headed to the bathroom that wasn’t too far down the hall and as you closed the door behind you and were left alone, you refused to think about what happened in the past few minutes. You focused solely on the mundane task of pulling your shirt off and drying your damp skin with the towel and then moving to take off your skirt.
You weren’t sure where you thought Steve was, but you didn’t think he was standing right outside the bathroom door, so abruptly hearing his soft voice on the other side of the door made you jump as you slipped on the white shirt.
“I think we’re just friends because…” He trailed off. “I don’t know, honestly.”
You wished that your question could’ve simply been forgotten about, and you wanted to tell him just that; to forget it. However, there was a small part of you that wanted to push the conversation forward and actually talk about it, and somehow that small part managed to take precedence over logical thinking.
“Maybe we shouldn’t be friends,” You responded, not outwardly saying what you really meant because you knew that you wouldn’t be able to take it back once the words were out in the open and that was a slightly scary thought, even your drunk brain knew that.
“I think you’re right,” Steve said, and somehow you could practically hear him nodding. “So, what should we be instead?”
It was obvious what he wanted you to say, and even though the words were on the tip of your tongue, you still couldn’t seem to actually say them. You finished buttoning the shirt and then let out a quiet sigh.
“I don’t know…” You ultimately answered. Selfishly, you wanted him to be the one to say it out loud first. “What do you think we should be instead?”
Hearing his soft laugh made you immediately smile. Somehow, this back-and-forth conversation between two half-drunk people who were beating around the bush about their feelings for one another was becoming more and more teasing, and you honestly didn’t mind it because it just felt so typical of you and Steve.
“I don’t know, either,” He answered, and for a second, you thought that the conversation was going to come to its end there— without either of you mustering up the courage to actually say the words— but then he continued. “But I’ll admit that whenever I see you, it makes me really, really happy.”
You could only smile wider at his words. “Okay, and I’ll admit that sometimes I like when we’re both forced to stay late at work because it means that I get to spend more time with you.”
You didn’t realize just how true those words were until you were saying them. You had long accepted that Steve being in your life made your job a thousand times more bearable, but you were now finally seeing that it was so much more than that. You were suddenly so certain of the fact that you would’ve quit your job long ago if going to work and dealing with Kristen didn’t mean eventually seeing Steve at some point throughout the day, even if it was just for five quick minutes.
“Honestly, those late nights are kind of my favorite,” Steve responded to your previous confession and you felt yourself nodding in agreement even though he couldn’t see you.
“I like you,” You told him. Your voice was soft but you knew that he could hear you. “And I don’t mean that in a work friend or regular friend kind of way. And I’m just now fully realizing it tonight, but I think deep down I’ve felt this way for a long time.”
“I like you too,” He responded, voice matching your softness and you could hear the smile in his tone. “And I don’t mean it in a work friend or regular friend way either.”
Things got quiet for a second and then you were opening the bathroom door and meeting Steve’s eyes. Neither of you said anything at first; mainly because it felt as if the contented smiles on both of your faces managed to say it all.
“I forgot to grab pants,” Were the first words you said after a minute of comfortable silence. Steve’s shirt on you was long enough and its length matched where your skirt had ended, so nothing new was really revealed.
Steve laughed a little at your random statement because it made it seem as if a huge thing hadn’t just been admitted by both of you only moments ago.
“We should probably get you those,” He looked down at your new outfit, or lack thereof, for a brief second and then met your eyes again.
You gave him a quick nod. “Yeah, I guess that would make sense.”
Neither of you made any move to head toward his bedroom again, though. Instead, another handful of moments passed and then you were silently reaching out and letting your hand find his. You pulled him into the bathroom with you and softly shut the door behind him.
With two people now in it, you were realizing just how small the bathroom was, but this closeness felt perfect to you. And you could tell that the feeling was mutual because Steve’s hands were finding your hips, and then you were being shifted around so that you were pressed back against the sink. Your arms reached up to circle his neck and your hands settled in the hair at the nape of his neck; it all felt so instinctive— as if this was something that had happened a bunch of times before. As if this entire moment was something that had happened a million times before.
Your eyes drifted down to Steve’s lips for a quick second because they were only inches away from yours and you wondered who would be the one to close the final bit of distance between you two, or if you’d simply just meet in the middle and the rest would be history.
Before anything could happen, though, the annoying logical part of you was taking over and you got the urge to ask something. “We’re not just doing this and saying all of this because we’re kinda drunk, right?”
Your words were whispered and your eyes were closed because you knew that your question had the opportunity to be a mood killer and ruin this moment entirely, and for those exact reasons, you immediately wanted to take it back. But, Steve was answering before you could.
“No,” He whispered back. It was such a short and simple answer, but it somehow managed to say enough.
Your eyes opened and you could tell that he was about to say more, but you leaned in to kiss him before anything could be said. It was soft at first, soft and tentative, like you both were testing the waters and trying to correctly navigate this uncharted territory.
But then it was as if the same switch was flipping for you two at the exact same time because, after the briefest second, you both were simultaneously pushing any and all thinking to the side and simply leaning into what felt right. Steve deepened the kiss and you reciprocated immediately, pushing yourself as close as you could to him and closing any and all space between you two.
Your hands went from softly tugging at the hair at the nape of his neck, to fisting themselves in his white t-shirt. And then, with Steve’s help too, you pushed yourself up so that you were sitting on the sink counter. It wasn’t the most comfortable position, but you didn’t entirely mind it right then. Steve settled between your now parted legs and one hand was still on your hip, while the other was playing with the hem of your, his, shirt that was now riding further and further up your thighs due to your new position.
“I can’t believe out of everything, you grabbed this shirt,” Steve said in between kisses.
You let out a contented sound when his lips moved to your neck. “Why?”
“Because you look very, very hot right now,” He didn’t hesitate to answer. “And your outfit earlier was really great too, and honestly you always look hot so maybe this shouldn’t even be surprising to me right now.”
You let out a soft laugh at his rambling. “I’m hot even when we’re at work and I’m wearing a boring cardigan and jeans?”
Steve nodded and pressed a quick kiss against your lips. “Especially then.”
It was hard not to feel so affected by the two simple words; your heart quite literally stuttered at how certain he sounded, and you leaned in to kiss him again instead of saying anything in response. Your fingers carded themselves in his hair, eliciting a soft groan from him that made you smile into the kiss. And then both of his hands moved to your hips, pulling you to the edge of the counter so that you were flush against him.
In a way, it felt a little silly that you two were making out in his bathroom when there was a perfectly good bed right down the hall. But, it was a kind of silliness that made sense for you and Steve and everything you two built over the last eight months of knowing each other.
There was the friendship side of things that happened so effortlessly following that night you two met in the lobby, and now there was this new side that, weirdly enough, so quickly felt the same way. Kissing him for the first time right here, right now made you wish that you two had been doing this a lot sooner because of how irrevocably happy it made you.
“We’re stupid for taking so long to do this,” You eventually told him when you two were in his bed. You were moments away from falling asleep, but you felt the need to finally say those words.
The two of you were under his grey covers and you had traded the button up for one of Steve’s t-shirts and a pair of his basketball shorts that were really comfortable. His warmth enveloped you completely beneath the blanket as he pulled you closer, wrapping an arm around your waist and finding your hand to intertwine it with his.
“Like we were stupid for not getting Todd and Kristen together sooner?”
You nodded, a small smile gracing your lips that he couldn’t see because you were facing away from him. “Yes, exactly like that.”
Steve pressed a kiss against the side of your head and then his lips tickled at your ear. “I agree.”
You hummed in response and finally fell asleep moments later because you were in way too comfortable of a position not to. It was your first time in Steve’s bed, but how at ease you’d felt since you pulled the blanket over you minutes ago didn’t feel new or foreign. It simply felt right.
And before your eyes slipped shut and you drifted off, you came to the final realization of the night that everything felt right with Steve, it always did, and that was the most comforting thought to fall asleep to.

Some sort of hive mind thing
Written for the Kissing Booth bonus card of the @steddiebingo
Prompt: Body Swap
Rated: T
Words: 975
Tags: POV Dustin Henderson; Body swap; Secret relationship; Coming out; Implied sexual content (very brief, very vague); Crack and humor
“Okay, the others are on their way.”
Dustin puts the walkie back on his bedside table. The alarm clock tells him it's a little after four in the morning. When he tries to tug on his hat to ground himself, he realizes he isn't wearing one because he's still in his pajamas. Biting back a yawn, he snatches his Thinking Cap from its hook on the wall and puts it on. He feels like he's going to need it.
“While we wait, walk me through this again,” he says, turning back to the two miserable figures sitting side by side on his bed. “Steve?”
“Yeah?” says Eddie.
Dustin blinks. He can practically feel his brain whirring in his skull as it recalibrates. Sweet mother of all that's logical, this must be the fourth-most bizarre thing that ever happened to him.
“Oh, wait,” says Steve. “If you say Steve shouldn’t I answer? Wouldn't want half the town to find out about this. I've barely even shaken the satanist allegations. Better not add body snatching to the list.”
“The fuck?” Eddie hisses. “First you steal my body and now you're taking my name, too?”
Steve grins, wide and toothy, fluttering his lashes exaggeratedly. “Let's table the discussion about who's taking whose name for later, big boy. We've more important stuff to figure out right now.”
Okay, make that the third-most bizarre thing.
“You both went to bed as usual,” Dustin says over the ensuing string of bickering, wondering not for the first time who's babysitting who here. “Then, a few hours later, you woke up to discover that you're stuck in each other's bodies.”
Eddie-who-looks-like-Steve snorts a laugh and Steve-who-looks-like-Eddie elbows him.
“Quit it! Be serious about this!”
“I’m trying to, but he said stuck in-”
“Did anything happen last night?” Dustin asks.
They both flinch. Eddie attempts to pull a lock of hair in front of his face but grasps at thin air.
“Did anything- … I have no idea what you- … Nothing happened! Nothing at all!”
Dustin raises an eyebrow at him. Eddie starts chewing on Steve’s knuckles.
“Really? You sure? Nothing strange or out of the ordinary? I need you to think real hard about this, it could be important.”
Steve shrugs, raking a hand through Eddie’s hair and frowning when his fingers get stuck in the frizzy mess. “Dunno, man. Our life's pretty much an endless string of freak incidents, so it's kind of hard to say what qualifies as- Gross, dude, stop chewing on my nails.”
“It helps with my anxiety, and you have mine,” Eddie grumbles, but he still stops chewing.
“Which is why it's crucial,” Dustin shoulders on, “to look for patterns. There must've been something that caused this, and there must be a reason why it happened to the two of you. Oh, you think it has to do with the bats? You're the only ones who got bitten, so maybe that's the connection. Maybe it's some sort of hive mind thing.”
He has started pacing up and down in front of the bed, but at the corner of his vision, he can see how Steve squints Eddie’s dark brown eyes at him.
“But that was months ago,” he says. He’s still wearing Eddie’s rings, Dustin notices. Eddie has pulled their hands into his lap and started fiddling with them, muttering something about how they won't fit Steve’s stupid, giant saucer hands. “Why would it happen now?”
Dustin snaps his fingers. “Something must've triggered it. There must've been some kind of dormant connection the entire time, and one or both of you must've done something to activate it.”
He stops pacing and turns to them, only to find they’re not looking at him anymore. Instead, they’ve ducked their heads together and started muttering among themselves in hushed voices. Dustin catches the words oughta tell him, and wrinkles his brow.
“Tell me what?”
“Okay!” Steve screws Eddie’s eyes shut and pinches Eddie’s nose. “You know how you asked me to drive you to the arcade last night?”
“And you told me no because you had this big, important date?” Dustin rolls his eyes. “Sure. What about it?”
“And how you called me after?” Eddie says. He has started pulling on the ends of Steve’s hair now, and it seems to be getting frizzier by the second. It looks a bit like regular Steve put his fingers in a socket. “And I said I’d love to chauffeur you, but I couldn’t because I had already made plans?”
“Yes,” Dustin deadpans. “You were both completely and utterly unhelpful and I had to cycle all the way there in the dark and the wind, thank you for reminding me. Now what does this have to do with any-”
“Dustin,” says Steve. He looks at Eddie, then down at their entwined hands. Pointedly. Dustin feels his jaw drop.
“Oh,” he says. “You mean you were- … You both couldn’t make it because you were each other’s- … Oh! Oh my God, please don’t tell me- … Were you two making out?”
Silence drops. Somewhere outside, bicycle tires crunch on gravel, heralding the arrival of the Party.
“Sure,” says Eddie. “Let’s call it making out.”
Dustin groans, turning to open his window.
“Let’s try to keep this between the three of us,” he hisses. “The others don’t need to know this.”
“What?” Steve grumbles. He’s always blushed easily, but now, with his newly acquired pale complexion, he looks like an Eddie-shaped lava lamp. “These kids have dealt with interdimensional monsters and telepathic wizards, you’d think they’d be able to stomach two guys kissing.”
“That’s not it,” Dustin says, and now it’s his turn to break into a smug grin. “But Max bet me twenty bucks you wouldn’t last until Christmas, and I'm broke, so I'd appreciate it if she wouldn't find out just yet.”

hc for Hyun-ju confessing? I’m or out of games? Idk whatever sparks your interest ❤️
HEADCANON: Confession
Hyun-ju x g/n reader
Summary: How would Hyun-ju confess her feelings to you? (in the games and out of the games)
Warnings: None, just fluff.
a/n: English's not my first language, there may be some grammatical or orthography mistakes 😞
💗HYUN-JU REQUESTS ARE OPEN!!!💗
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/92dd009acda9f9fdb0a4e13b62e7c886/7a55b8d5b862b503-a5/s540x810/705ce895bdc610456bc734803c3d79a1a761c98d.jpg)
In the games:
You both met during red light green light, as you both helped a guy who was injured.
Since then, You've been together, talking about everything and nothing, being there and comforting each other when you were down.
You were the first person in that place that she admitted to that she was trans. And you being the first person to accept her only strengthened your relationship.
You used to sleep together, if it wasn't in the same bed, it would be in beds that were next to each other.
You once woke up in the middle of the night, and the urge to go to the bathroom kept you from sleeping, so you slowly got out of bed, not wanting to wake up Hyun-ju, who was sleeping next to you.
"Where are you going?" Her voice startled you a little.
"I have to use the bathroom"
She wouldn't let you go alone, afraid that someone would do something to you.
"I'll come with you".
You both were washing your hands, in a comfortable silence but as you looked at your reflection, you noticed the nervousness on Hyun-ju's face
"Hey Hyunnie, is everything alright?"
"Y/n... I have been thinking..." She softly muttered.
You looked at her, slightly confused.
"I think... I think I've started to fall in love with you. I know is not the right place or the right time, but... Seeing the circumstances, I guess is better to let you know." She let out a soft chuckle. "So it's okay if you don't feel the same, I don't want things to change between us." She looked onto the floor, a bit embarrassed, thinking what could be the worst thing you could answer.
Seeing that she didn't get any response from you, she turned her gaze to you, only to find you staring at her in disbelief.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have-" She started, anxiety starting to run through her body. You really found her really cute, so you didn't lose the chance and leaned in for a soft kiss.
"No no, Hyun-ju, it's okay, is just... I've never thought that you'd... like me back." You said nervously as you pulled back, not knowing how to react. Not knowing how she would react. "Actually, I've liked you too for a while now... I was trying to work up the courage to tell you."
That was the best night of your life.
Out of the games:
You and Hyun-ju have been friends for years now, since you two were kids. You had always been there for each other, even when she started her transition and her family kicked out of her house, you welcomed her into yours.
Those close interactions between you both, like you going to her bedroom at night, to ask her if you could sleep with her as you were scared of storms, watching movies on the couch, leaning on each other's shoulders and sharing the food made her star to develop other feelings for you.
One day she finally decided to tell you how she felt about you. So she decided to take you out for dinner to a nice restaurant.
You had an excellent dinner, the food was amazing and you had a very smooth and entertaining conversation. You really had a lot of fun that night.
You both decided to go for a walk, just to enjoy the breeze of the summer night.
You were walking on the beach, along the shore, the cold water crashing against your feet.
Suddenly you noticed how Hyun-ju held your hand. You didn't push her away, instead, you grabbed her hand firmly, enjoying the warmth.
"Thank you for today, Hyunnie" You said, smiling at her.
"Don't thank me, you've already done a lot for me, it's the least I can do." She let out a giggle. "You know, I really appreciate everything you've done for me these past few years... You know, with all that transition stuff, letting me stay at your house and making me feel loved every day." Her eyes met yours as she smiled back at you.
"Of course, pretty girl, I'm glad you feel that safe with me" She suddenly stopped the step.
"You don't understand, darling."
"Huh? What do you mean?" You innocently asked.
"I like you, y/n, I really do. I've done it for a while now." She shyly looked into your eyes, trying to read your reaction.
You were too shocked to react. Your body did the thinking before your brain could and you slowly leaned towards her, Your gaze lowering to her lips, and back to her eyes, searching for permission. Finally she closed the space between you.

Masterlist
A/N: Here am I, the angst fairy, coming to really bum you out right before Valentine's Day! You're welcome? 😂 But seriously, friends, this is a rough one, so please read the warnings and take care of yourself!
A huge thanks to @bigtreefest who talked through so much of this with me, and @stargazingfangirl18 who helped me figure out the particulars of how alpha/omega dynamics work in this world (both for this part and going forward)!
Any comment, reblog, or ask to let me know what you think will be greatly appreciated. And if you need to come scream at me, that's ok too!
As always, thank you so much for reading! 💜
You should’ve expected this. It was exactly what they’d always said would happen. That the government abhorred personal freedom and one day they would come to try to take everything the alphas had built for themselves. They wanted to seize all the land and the guns and capture the omegas to sell them off to the highest bidder or put them in a breeding program.
But before, whenever the topic came up, whichever alpha was ranting against big government, be it Franco, Wilford, or your father, would inevitably turn to what would happen when the government pigs came to take what was theirs. The mindless troops would be met with guns and fire and pure alpha might. And they’d learn what happened when you messed with true alphas.
But that wasn’t what happened, was it? No. That wasn’t what led to you standing in the middle of your new alpha’s house. You should count yourself lucky, you supposed, that you hadn’t ended up in a breeding program—horror stories about those programs used to keep you up at night as a teenager. Stories whispered among the omegas, a reminder of how lucky you all were to be safe in the compound.
You hadn’t felt safe for a long time, but you weren’t sure you’d ever been in this much danger. You were completely on your own, given away to one of the biggest alphas you’d ever seen. Much bigger than Franco or Wilford. You’d never be able to fight him. He’d be able to hurt you even worse than either of them.
That was all you could think about as he showed you around his house. You didn’t know why he was bothering. You were sure you’d only need to know where his bedroom and the kitchen were.
But still, he showed you the living room, the bathrooms, a room he called his home office. It was outside of that room that he stopped and turned to you. “I work from home,” he said, his voice a steady rumble. “So I’ll be around if you ever need me. I just ask that you knock first before coming in if I’m working. Okay?”
“Yes, Alpha,” you said by rote, but your mind was racing. He would always be here. You’d never get a break. There’d be no way to hide anything from him. Even Franco had left the house every day to go about his business, whatever that was. Sure, you still had Martha trying to know all of your secrets, but as long as you did the chores and kept the pups out of her way, you could deal with her. And as much as you hated Franco’s First Omega, she was still better than him.
At the thought of your Alpha, you swore the mark on your neck throbbed. Where was he now? Locked up? Dead?? Did it even matter? He wasn’t actually your alpha anymore. He used to talk sometimes about how before civilization when it was everyone out for themselves in the wilderness and omegas were scarce, stronger alphas would kill weaker ones and steal their omegas, biting over the existing mark. He’d laugh when he described the ravaged state of an omega’s neck bearing mark after mark until she was finally captured by an alpha strong enough to keep her. He always looked at you when he said that last part, at your mark.
But he hadn’t been strong enough to keep you, had he? Not in the end. None of them had been.
The alpha had moved on down the hall and you scrambled to keep up with him. He stopped in front of a doorway, blocking your view inside. “This is my room,” he said.
You took a deep breath. Okay. It was time then. You could do this. You could be a good omega. You waited for him to move into the room so you could follow, but instead, he gestured to the room behind you. “And that one’s yours.”
It took you a moment to understand what he’d said. Then you slowly turned around, confused, to find a small bedroom. Without thinking, you took a few tentative steps inside. It was bright, the sun streaming in through the curtains. There was a bed in the center of the room, covered in a dove gray quilt with flowers stitched into it. There was a collection of dusty rose pillows covering the top third, in all sorts of shapes and sizes. A plush-looking chair in a similar color was tucked into the corner. There was a big window set into the far wall. Sheer curtains softly billowed over it. Two bins were stacked beneath it. Against the perpendicular wall, sat a short dresser made of dark wood, and next to it a small closet. Across from that, you could see a little ensuite bathroom. All of it was much nicer than the little room with the thin cots that you used to share with Martha and Emmy when any one of you wasn’t in Franco’s bed. You couldn’t understand why he was giving it to you. Just you. As far as you could tell, there weren’t any other omegas here. It was much too nice for you on your own.
You turned back to him, hoping to find some clues there, but he had the same vaguely soft look on his face he’d had since you’d first walked into the room at the center you’d first been brought to. You didn’t like that look, didn’t know what to do with it. It’d drop soon anyway. You knew it would. The waiting was the worst part.
You dropped your gaze when he cleared his throat. “There’s nesting supplies in those two bins under the window. With or without alpha scent. So you can go ahead and make yourself comfortable.”
You blinked at the two bins he’d gestured to. You didn’t understand what he wanted you to do, but you nodded anyway with a quiet, “Yes, Alpha.”
He hovered in the doorway, not taking even one step into the room. “Are you still hungry?” he asked.
You shook your head. He’d stopped and gotten you a breakfast sandwich on the way to his house and had let you eat it in his truck. You’d eaten it quickly so he couldn’t change his mind, extremely careful not to get any crumbs on his upholstery.
He sighed and you were gripped by panic that you may have disappointed him. You had no idea how you might have done that but this wouldn’t be the first time that an alpha’s expectations had been unknowable to you. But he didn’t say anything about it or make any move to punish you. You kept a wary eye on him anyway.
“Well,” he said, taking a step back into the hallway. “I have some calls to make and a little work to do. I know you’ve had a long night, so I’ll let you rest for a bit. But please come get me if you need anything.”
“Yes, Alpha,” you whispered, knowing for a fact that you would do absolutely everything you could not to disturb him. An omega’s job was to make her alpha’s life easier, to bring him pleasure. Omegas didn’t need things. They should never be that selfish. You would show this alpha how good you could be. To protect yourself, you’d do whatever you could.
He looked at you, a furrow between his brows, then just nodded and walked down the hall. You waited for a moment to make sure he didn’t come back. When he didn’t, you carefully made your way around the room. You placed your knapsack on the chair in the corner and took out the only other dress you’d managed to grab on your way out of Franco’s house to hang up in the closet. It looked pathetic, hanging by itself. You took off your shoes and placed them underneath it. Finally, you took the little friendship bracelet out of it’s hiding place at the bottom of the bag. You reverently set it on the dresser, the little ballerina charm Grace had managed to sneak into the house for you hanging off the wood.
You turned towards the two bins against the wall. The alpha clearly wanted you to do something with them but you had no idea what. You gingerly opened the first bin and were immediately hit by the strong scent of cedar and leather and alpha, the same scent that had engulfed you in his truck and subtly permeated this house. But this bin was like being slapped in the face with it. You couldn’t breathe. You closed it as fast as you could. You were even more cautious as you opened the second bin, but you weren’t struck by any strong scents as you removed the lid that time. You looked inside to find a collection of blankets and pillows. You carefully touched one to find the softest blanket you’d ever felt. Without thinking, you brought it out of the box and buried your face in it, as tears pricked at your eyes. You didn't want to cry anymore. It wouldn't change anything.
You pulled the blanket after you as you climbed onto the bed. You’d been awake for most of the last twenty-four hours and you could finally feel the adrenaline leeching out of you. The intense fear was still there, but it could no longer overpower your extreme exhaustion. You wrapped the blanket around yourself and quickly fell asleep.
You weren’t sure what exactly had woken you up, but your heart was already racing. Nightmares you couldn’t remember but could still feel were wrapped around you. You sat up and tried to force yourself to breathe. You weren’t in the compound anymore. You never would be again. You wished that could be a comfort to you, but now you were surrounded by unknown threats and dangers. You shouldn’t be so upset. This was just what happened to omegas. You’d been suddenly uprooted from your home before, dropped somewhere you didn’t know anything or anyone. It’d probably happen again. Especially if you didn’t do everything you could to please this alpha.
You wrapped the blanket tighter around yourself. It was one of the softest things you’d ever felt. You almost felt safe in this little cocoon you’d made yourself. Then you saw movement in the open doorway.
The alpha stood there, knocking softly on the door, something tucked under one arm. “Hey, I thought you might be awake,” he said, his voice quieter than you’d ever heard an alpha speak before. “Can I come in?”
“Yes, Alpha,” you said immediately, even as you felt that fear rising in your chest again. You didn’t know why he was asking.
He stopped and looked at you carefully, which made you shrink down as much as you could. He sighed with a small grimace. “On second thought, how ‘bout you come join me in the living room? Whenever you’re ready.”
He took off down the hall, and, after you’d carefully put the blanket away, you followed him. He stood in the middle of the cozy room. “Sit wherever you’d like,” he said.
You looked at the two plush couches and the recliner with panic. Was this a test? Was there a right answer? Where would he sit? You never would have sat before Franco. That would have gotten you in so much trouble. Was this alpha trying to trick you?
After a few moments, he softly called your name. “You can sit on that couch, if you want,” he said, gesturing to the larger of the two sofas. You let out a sigh of relief as you sat where he pointed. He sat on the other side of the same couch, giving you plenty of space, then took out what he’d been holding under his arm, revealing it to be a laptop, like Franco Jr used to have. He opened it and held it out to you. “You need more clothes. We have a stipend from the Center to get you the things you need so don't worry about the cost. Do you know how online shopping works?” You just sort of shrugged unsure of what the right answer was. You knew how to use a computer, but Franco had made sure none of his omegas ever had any access to his money, as was his right as the Alpha. “That’s fine,” he said, then showed you the buttons you needed to press to make an order. Then, inconceivably, he passed the computer over to you. “Pick out whatever you like, then if it’s all available at a local store, we’ll hopefully be able to get it delivered by tonight.” Then he sat back, giving you space.
You looked at the webpage in front of you, filled with dozens of pictures of models in different pieces of clothing. The title at the top of the page said Omega Loungewear, but as you scrolled down through the pictures, you couldn’t understand why. None of this was appropriate for omegas. There were leggings and shorts, t-shirts and tank tops, big baggy sweaters, something called bralettes that you couldn’t believe they were just showing pictures of right out in the open. There were some cotton dresses that might be ok, depending on what the alpha wanted, but he hadn’t told you. He wanted you to know. He wanted you to be good. To prove it. And everything was available in different colors and patterns and you didn’t know how many you were supposed to pick out or what he wanted or–
You hadn’t realized your breathing had picked up until he was kneeling in front of you. “Hey,” he said very gently, his hands held out in front of him but not touching you, “hey, it’s okay. You’re alright. Can you please tell me what’s going on?”
You gulped. You were being a stupid omega. This was why omegas shouldn’t make decisions. You lifted the laptop up and passed it back to him. “I don’t know, Alpha,” you said very quietly, nodding to the computer. “I’m sorry.”
“Hey, no need for apologies, it’s totally fine.” He stopped to think, then with a grimace and a sigh, “Would you like me to pick out some things for you and order them?”
You slumped in relief. He’d know what was okay for you to get. You wouldn’t have to guess. “Yes, Alpha. Thank you, Alpha.”
“That’s another–” he shook his head sadly. “You don’t– You don’t need to address me as alpha. You can call me Curtis, or, or anything. You can call me whatever you want. Whatever makes you comfortable.”
That was definitely a trick. Calling him anything other than Alpha was 100% not allowed. You had the marks on your body to prove it. Omegas might have been stupid, but you were smart for your kind and you wouldn’t fall for this just to be punished. After everything that had happened, you had more self-preservation than that.
“Yes, Alpha,” you said, your eyes on the ground.
He let out another heavy sigh. “Right,” he said, as he stood up. “I had lunch while you were sleeping, but I set some aside for you. Let me go get it, And then we can” he looked around, flaring his arms to the side, “I don’t know. Watch TV, I guess?”
“Yes, Alpha,” you said, quietly, still not looking at him.
He sighed again. This alpha sighed a lot. He was disappointed in you. He just stood there for a long moment. You could feel him looking at you. You sank back into the couch, trying to make yourself as small as possible. There was another sigh, then, “I’ll be right back.” He turned on the TV as he left the room, leaving the remote within your reach, but you didn’t dare touch it. Another trap.
Franco had had a big TV. He watched a lot of sports and news shows hosted by strong alpha men that talked about how the government was trying to strip alphas of their rightful power. Sometimes there were pretty blonde beta and omega women there to say the same thing. There were other news channels too, but they were all secretly owned by the government and only told lies.
When Franco was gone, Martha used to sneak into the living room to watch her stories while you and Emmy did chores or took the younger pups outside. You never joined her; she and Emmy would just yell at you for being lazy if you tried.
So, now, you did your best to ignore whatever was playing until a voice caught your attention. “On tonight’s Eyewitness News at 5, government agencies raid an alpha supremacist group calling themselves The Snowpiercer Collective–” You felt your heartrate pick up. On the screen were images of the compound—the storage barns, the meeting hall, Wilford’s house. Then video of the people in their tactical gear with initials you didn’t understand on their backs holding guns and–
You weren’t sure what had woken you up first, the dogs barking or the sound of guns being fired. Emmy was standing over you, her eyes wide with panic, while Martha screamed behind her for both of you to get your lazy asses moving and get the pups. You didn’t know what was going on. None of you had been in Franco’s bed that night, which meant your little room was full and you’d had to sleep on the floor while the other two claimed the cots. You were stiff and slow and confused as you tried to get moving, still half-asleep. As you cut through the living room to get to the pups’ rooms—you could hear the youngest ones sobbing—you saw that it was still pitch black out, but then the sky would briefly light up with a loud crack of whatever was being fired much too close to your home for comfort. What was happening? Who was there? Where was Franco? He’d left the night before to go play poker with some of the other alphas, so more likely than not, he’d passed out somewhere in the compound before he’d been able to drunkenly stumble home. It’d been a relief that night, but now it meant that you were all completely defenseless from whoever was attacking you.
The three of you gathered the children and tried to herd them out the back door, toward the entrance to the bunker that was about twenty feet behind the house. But as soon as you opened the door, you were met with a full SWAT team and everyone was screaming and their guns were pointed at you and–
“Shit!”
The alpha’s voice brought you back to the present. You were on the floor. You were in your new alpha’s house and you were on the floor. The TV was off and he was crouched in front of you, the remote still in his hand. Your face was wet, tears streaming down your cheeks. You weren’t in the compound anymore, but that didn’t make you feel any safer. He was trying to talk to you, saying something, his tone gentle, but you couldn’t process his words. You were scared and you were tired. And you knew it was bad, you knew it wasn’t what you should do, but you were out of energy and you couldn’t stop yourself from curling up into a ball on the floor and finally sobbing like you’d wanted to since you’d been put into the back of that SWAT van.
You weren’t sure if you woke up, so much as just came to. There was a blanket draped over you—it’d been on the couch, maybe—and a pillow pushed under your head. The alpha must have done it, but you couldn’t imagine him taking such care with you. You could hear the murmurs of a one-sided conversation coming from the other room.
You slowly sat up. Your eyes hurt and your mouth was dry. You were making a very bad impression on your new alpha. What must he think of you? You would have to work very hard over the next few days to show him that you did actually know how to be a good omega. You would do better.
The alpha took that moment to appear at the entrance to the living room. He held a phone to his ear. “I gotta go, Tanya. I’ll talk to you soon.” He put his phone in the back pocket of his jeans as he took a few steps into the room, then stopped. He stared at you and you dropped your gaze to the floor. You did your very best to keep your breaths even. It was always the worst with Franco when you couldn’t predict him, and you had no idea what this alpha would do.
He cleared his throat. “How are you feeling?” he asked quietly. Before you were able to figure out the best answer to that question, he shook his head. “No, that’s– that’s a stupid question, I know.” He crouched down so he was closer to your level while still several feet away. “Look, I can’t even imagine what you’ve been through, but I want to help you, ok? However I can, I’m here to help you.”
Your mind was racing. Why would he say that? To trick you, a little voice inside you said. That had to be it. Wilford had done that too. Pretended to be friendly and kind and helpful. Until he stopped pretending and you learned who he really was. You shivered at the memory of him. You’d learned your lesson. You wouldn’t be surprised again.
He stayed like that for a few moments, while you kept your head down and didn’t move. Finally he stood up. “I ordered some food. It should be here soon. And your clothes came. So if you want, you could put them away while we wait, and then join me in the kitchen for dinner?”
“Yes, Alpha,” you said quietly as you made yourself stand up. He followed suit and walked into the kitchen where he picked up two canvas bags with the same logo on them and handed them to you. You peered inside. You couldn’t see the shape of the clothes yet, but you could tell there were many items, all in soft pastel colors.
“I had to make some guesses on sizing,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. “And, uh, well. It looks like the clothes you currently have maybe don’t fit you quite right? So. So these might feel different.”
You ducked your head. The dress you were wearing had been Martha’s. Your shoes had been Emmy’s. They pinched your toes. Being third omega meant having to make do with what you were given. Even as a kid, everything you’d had had belonged to your older sisters first. You didn’t think you’d ever been the first person to wear something.
You clutched the bags to your chest and whispered, “Thank you, Alpha,” before hurrying down the hall to the bedroom you’d been given. You checked each item as you put it away. Leggings, t-shirts, sweaters, shorts, all made from some of the softest material you’d ever felt. He wouldn’t have gone so far as to spend actual money if it was just a trick or a test, would he? You’d done what you were supposed to, you’d let him choose, so even though these weren’t the clothes you were used to, it’d be okay to wear them, wouldn’t it? You worried your bottom lip. He’d picked them out. This was what he wanted.
At the sound of the doorbell, you hurried back out and arrived in the kitchen as he approached the small table with a short stack of flat, square boxes. “I hope pizza’s okay,” he said. “I got a couple different kinds, so hopefully there’s something you like.”
You didn’t respond. You were good at taking what was given to you. You stood next to the table and waited as he arranged the boxes and put a plate in front of each of you. You didn’t sit down until he did. He opened one of the boxes and gestured to its contents. “Help yourself,” he said. You kept your hands in your lap until he placed a slice on his own plate. Then you grabbed one from the same box. Once he took a bite, you started eating. It was so good. Much better than the frozen pizzas you would occasionally have at the compound. And as soon as you started eating, you realized you were starving. You hadn’t really had lunch, distracted by your ridiculous freakout. You inhaled your first slice, then stared at the box, wondering if it was worth the risk to try to take more. The alpha must have seen you looking because he took two more pieces from the box and placed them on your plate. “Have as much as you want,” he said. “There’s plenty to go around.”
After a few more minutes of eating in silence, the alpha stood up abruptly, the back legs of his chair scraping loudly against the floor. You jumped in your seat and tried to make yourself small as he briefly loomed over you.
He moved to the counter and came right back with the little cardboard box the Omega at the center had tried to give you. You shrank back as he held it out to you. “I almost forgot,” he said, “here are the suppressants if you want to start taking them tonight.”
You froze. You tried to force your hand to take the pills from him, but your limbs refused to move. You remembered the first time you'd been sent to Wilford, the High Alpha, the little white pill he'd given you. “To help,” he'd said. But it'd just made you feel tired, loose, disconnected from your body. Defenseless when he'd– Or other times, different pills, different colors and shapes, that'd made you feel like you were going into heat even though it wasn't time yet. That'd made you need things you didn't actually want. And the way Wilford had smiled at you and–
Your new alpha was looking at you curiously, the pack of pills still in his hand, a mask of concern on his face. You needed to take it. An alpha was giving you something. You should take it. You should take it. You should take it. “What do they do?” you blurted out without meaning to. Oh god. You were in so much trouble.
All he did at first was blink at you. “What do suppressants do?” he repeated back to you, looking slightly surprised. He withdrew his hand and sat down. “They stop your heats, is the biggest thing, for however long you take them.”
Why– Your heats belonged to your alpha. The whole point of them, of you, was to give your alpha pleasure. And pups. Why would he offer this to you? “You want me to take them?” you whispered.
“I–” He hummed and scratched his beard. “I want you to do whatever makes you feel most comfortable.”
You looked at him as he made his face go completely blank. It was clearly another test and you weren't sure what the right answer was. Not just taking whatever pills he gave you was obviously bad. But if you had, you would have unknowingly denied him access to your heats, which was unforgivable. It was like you were being set up to fail. Maybe he was just looking for an excuse to punish you. Franco would sometimes do that too. You felt the flare of anger igniting in the pit of your stomach, but you took a deep breath to snuff it out. That would only get you in more trouble. You decided to commit to hopefully what was the lesser disobedience. “No, thank you, Alpha.”
He didn’t react for a moment and you were terrified you’d made the wrong choice. But his scent stayed mostly neutral and when he finally spoke, he just said, “Ok. That’s fine. But if you change your mind later, these will be here. And we can always talk about it again.”
You shook your head. You wouldn’t do that. You were good.
The alpha went to bed right after dinner, saying he was tired from having to wake up early to get you. You’d tried to apologize, but he looked at you funny, so you stopped.
Once he’d left you, you familiarized yourself with his kitchen, then did a thorough wipe down of the kitchen table, and swept underneath it.
When that was done, you retreated to the room he’d given you. There’d been some toiletries mixed in with the clothes he got for you, so you went into the little en suite and took a shower. It felt incredible, not having anyone banging on the door to get in next, or having to worry about using all of the hot water. For everything that was bad and scary about this situation, the chance at being a First Omega wasn’t one of them. Sure, you’d be the sole focus of your alpha’s attention, at least until he got another one, but it came with its perks too.
After your shower, you put on some of the new clothes. They were soft and cozy, cozier than anything you’d ever worn before. Then you climbed into the bed. You’d been so exhausted that morning that you hadn’t noticed much about it, but now, you felt like you were lying on a cloud. And it was so big, just as big as Franco’s bed. You’d be able to really stretch out in it when you were alone.
But would you be alone tonight? You got off the bed to peek out of the room to see that the alpha’s door was closed. You thought about closing your door, there was a lock on it, but if he really wanted to come in, all it would do was slow him down. And get you in trouble in the process. You closed it about three-fourths of the way. That wouldn’t technically be breaking any rules.
Not that you really knew what the rules were. Well, you knew the rules all omegas knew, but every alpha had their own as well. Your father did. Franco did. Wilford certainly had on the nights you had to be with him. But this alpha hadn’t bothered to tell you his yet. Another way to trick you into disobeying him.
You curled up on the bed, wrapping the soft blanket from the bin around yourself. You’d slept a lot of the day. Hopefully, that meant you wouldn’t need to sleep through the night. You wanted to be ready, when the alpha inevitably came for you. You wouldn’t fight him. The bite mark on your neck was proof enough that that wouldn’t do any good. But you just… you hated waking up in the middle of it. You’d rather know what was happening.
You turned over onto your side, trying to get comfortable, as you felt tears welling in your eyes. Again. If Martha were here, she’d yell at you for being a stupid child. You wondered where she’d ended up. Neither she nor Emmy had been shoved into the same van as you. Were they together? What had happened to their pups? You’d probably never see any of them ever again. You didn’t know what it said about you that you didn’t feel much of anything at that thought. Nothing good, probably.
You’d never see Franco again either. A good omega would feel grief at that. A good omega would miss him. Try as hard as you might, maybe you’d never been a very good omega. Maybe that’s how you’d ended up where you were.
You turned over again. You couldn’t get comfortable. This bed was too soft. You got up with a grumble, grabbing the blanket and one of the pillows and dragging them to the corner of the room. You were good at making yourself comfortable on the floor. That would be better. If he got upset that you weren’t waiting for him in bed, then at least you’d learn what his punishments were like.
You huddled into the wall and pulled the blanket tight around yourself, settling in to wait.
You woke with a start. You looked around, trying to get your bearings. You were in that little bedroom. The sun was streaming in through the curtains. Oh god, you’d fallen asleep! You hadn’t meant to do that. As you started to panic, you realized you were still curled up in the corner. Your clothes were still on. The door was exactly how you’d left it. He hadn’t come to take you in the night. You were filled with a strange mix of intense relief and something that felt a lot like dejection. Why hadn’t he come? It didn’t make any sense.
You heard the clinking of dishware coming from another part of the house just as the scent of breakfast wafted in. Your head shot up, confused. Who was making it? Was there an omega here after all?
You got up and quickly got dressed in another pair of leggings and one of the big, slouchy sweaters. You followed the noise to the kitchen and came to a sudden halt in the doorway. The alpha was making pancakes. You had never seen an alpha cook, not even once, in your entire life. Alphas didn’t cook. That was omegas’ work. Was this his way of rubbing your face in the fact that you were already falling down on the job? Your first morning here and you’d already neglected your duties to the point that he had to cook for himself?
He turned around when he realized you were there and you braced yourself for whatever was coming. But instead of yelling at you, a wide smile overtook his face. “Hey, good morning! I hope you slept okay.” You couldn’t do much other than blink at him, but his smile didn’t falter. “Go ahead and sit,” he said, gesturing to the table. “This’ll be done in just a couple minutes.”
“I can finish it, Alpha” you tried, your voice timid.
He immediately shook his head. “No, no. You’re a guest. Sit down. It’s almost done.”
You did as he said and sat, not taking your eyes off him. This was the strangest alpha you’d ever met. You didn’t understand anything about him. How could you predict him when you didn’t understand him?
True to his word, it was just a few minutes later that he was setting a plate in front of you, along with some syrup. You gingerly poured it over your pancakes, as he sat across from you and did the same. As you carefully cut a small bite for yourself, you felt him watching you, even though he acted like he wasn’t. You took a bite and your eyes fluttered closed. These were the best pancakes you’d ever tasted. Much better than Emmy’s. Much better than yours.
A small “mmm” escaped your lips. You opened your eyes, embarrassed, to find him still grinning at you. “That’s the first thing you should know about me,” he said, “I make really good pancakes.”

Happy Valentine’s Day my loves !! I wasn’t going to post today but my faves had a comeback and I got some inspiration. Enjoy !
Though the skies were dark and the only things illuminating were city buildings, the night was still somewhat young.
You and your husband had just gotten home from your annual Valentine’s day dinner. Jungkook always does his best to take you to a new restaurant every year so as to enjoy the night like it’s your first date.
Truly, it was always a magical night. You remember your very first one back when you were still only dating in college.
Jungkook was nervous to ask you to spend the day with him given that you two had only been dating for about two weeks. But Valentine’s Day was for couples and you were dating, right?
Given that you two, at the time, were broke college students who spent most of their money on essentials and food, there was little money to splurge on the day.
Jungkook did his best though. He got some of his friends to set up a table and fairy lights on a private area on campus. Even got your cousin to help out and pretend to be the waitress at a fancy restaurant.
He spent most of his money on the decorations and the food and only failed to realize he had little to no money for your gift just 2 hours before the date.
He scrambled around his dorm trying to find any change, literally anything. Namjoon walked in on Jungkook flipping his mattress over and getting excited to see a coin.
“…you okay?” Namjoon slowly closed the door and startled Jungkook for a moment before he replied.
“Hyung I’m screwed. I spent almost all my money on the lights, flowers, and food that I completely forgot to buy Y/N a gift,” Jungkook placed his mattress gently back onto the bed frame and threw himself on it.
“Woah. How’d you forget something that important,” the older chuckled and threw his backpack on the floor without a care in the world.
“Screwing up our first Valentine’s Day together isn’t what I was going for,” Jungkook huffs and Namjoon feels for him.
If he had a girlfriend and didn’t get her anything he’d probably stress too.
“What if you make her something?”
“Joon I’m shit at crafts. Remember when I had to make that 3D exoplanet system for Dr.Yoon’s class. It was basically falling apart as I walked to class with it,” Jungkook recalls placing his model next to your perfectly built one and you telling him it looked great.
He knew you were trying to make him feel better. It only made him like you more.
“So go for something simple,”
“Like?” Jungkook asks for suggestions and an idea immediately pops into Namjoon’s head.
“Do you recall back in high school when Mr.Jung would make us start our mornings writing letters to our past and future selves?” Jungkook wasn’t sure where Namjoon was going with this but he still nodded.
“Write her a love letter,”
That’s…not a terrible idea. It’s better than nothing.
Jungkook quickly scrambles from his bed, grabbing his school backpack and taking out a piece of paper and pens.
After about an entire hour of just writing and rewriting his feelings for you, he was done. He felt accomplished and a little shy. What if he was too vulnerable and you thought it was weird? What if you thought a letter was a cheap gift? What if you thought he got lazy??
The time was 7:45 and Jungkook didn’t have much time to overthink it. He folded the letter before putting it in an envelope and sealing it with clear tape.
He got dressed and received a text from his friends telling him that everything was set up and ready to go. All Jungkook had to do was pick you up from your dorm and walk to the designated spot.
With one last look in the mirror and a thumbs up from Namjoon, Jungkook grabs the letter on the desk and places it in his pocket for safe keeping.
He walked across campus to your dorm and felt like he fell in love with you all over again. You were wearing light makeup and something simple but to Jungkook, you looked so gorgeous. Jungkook was sure no other human being in the world held a candle to your beauty.
You exchanged a hug and a kiss on the cheek before walking with Jungkook as he lead you both to your little date.
You remembered how you felt seeing the scene for the first time. It was, again, simple but it was so sweet. You almost felt like tearing up.
The night was filled with tons of laughter and hand holding across the table as your cousin served entrees and main courses from the Italian restaurant off campus that you mentioned to Jungkook you loved.
Finally the night was coming to an end and now it was just the two of you. You watched Jungkook squirm around his seat for a moment before placing your hand on top of his to watch him visibly relax.
“Everything okay?”
“Uh…I have to confess something,” you hear Jungkook’s voice lower in volume but allow him to continue, “I didn’t get you a present-I know! I’m sorry it’s just that I spent so much time thinking about this date that it slipped my mind. But I made you something,” Jungkook grabbed the envelope from his pocket and placed it directly in the middle of the table.
He watched you stare at the paper for a moment and thought he fucked up. You didn’t move to grab it.
You hated it. You probably think he doesn’t even like y-
“Jungkook,” your voice just above a whisper takes him out of his insecure trance.
“You’re not going to believe this,” you reach inside your shirt and visibly into your bra before slipping out a paper of your own. Jungkook tries to ignore his flushed state as he watches you place yours on top of his.
“I wrote you a love letter,”
Soulmates. Jungkook was going to marry you. This was no coincidence. This was fate.
That night, you and Jungkook quietly read your letters in front of each other and shared your first kiss as a couple. You still remember how hard you two were smiling and simply couldn’t stop. The night was finished with love affirmations and lots of physical touches.
Similar to tonight.
You closed the curtains to you and Jungkook’s shared penthouse and watched the view of the city slowly disappear behind the cloth.
“What time is it?” You hear Jungkook walk behind you and wrap his arms around your waist.
“11:40?” You assume. It was rather late when you left the restaurant so you wouldn’t be too far off. Jungkook hums in acknowledgment and rests his chin on your shoulder, slowly closing his eyes.
He was a bit tired from tonight and you rocked him and yourself in a gentle rhythm.
“That waiter definitely had a crush on you,” Jungkook mumbled and you laughed.
“Jungkook I thought we said we’d stop talking about that kid,” you giggle as you reply thinking back to the young waiter that wouldn’t stop prioritizing you over your husband’s requests. At one point he served you wine and completely forgot about Jungkook’s glass.
“I don’t blame him though. You looked beautiful tonight,” Jungkook kissed your exposed shoulder and lets go before walking away.
“I have one more present for you honey,” Jungkook says picking through his blazer that he took off earlier.
“Jungkook. The necklace was enough,” you say touching the expensive piece of jewelry hanging around your neck.
“This might be worth more,” Jungkook finally finds it and slips it out.
It’s an envelope decorated with hand drawn hearts around and you know what it is. A tradition you’ve carried for the last 7 years. Love letters every Valentine’s Day.
He holds out the item for you to take and a smile and blush reach your face. Like second nature you reach into your bra and grab the neatly folded paper.
And like clockwork, your husband flushes up like he does every year. How cute.
You exchange letters and he holds your waist to lead you both to the living room. The environment was quiet in a peaceful and comforting manner.
You take a seat and Jungkook dims the lights a little before turning on the fire place. Finally taking the seat next to you.
You smile at each other one more time before opening your individual letters and you begin to read.
To my loving Wife and Soulmate,
Do you understand, that every single time that I see you, it feels like gravity shifts. You, my love, are the center of my universe. You’ve turned such ordinary and dull moments into supernovas of pure bliss and joy. I’m endlessly grateful for every orbit we’ve shared and will continue to share.
You’re the song that’s stuck in my head, the breath of air I didn’t know I was holding, the warmth in my favorite cup of coffee, and the reason for my happiness. You are my everything.
You are the last person that I think of before falling into sweet sleep where I dream of our life and how much better it gets by the day. Every time I hold your hand, it’s my unspoken promise to never let go. To always stay by your side.
I don’t just love you, I’m rooted in you. And I swear to choose you across every lifetime, every star, and every moment.
My sweet Y/N, I love you.
Yours, forever and always, Jeon Jungkook.
By the time you finish reading the letter you’ve already let a tear drop on the paper. Jungkook shares the same expression as he turns to face you with glossy eyes and nothing but love for you.
He grabs a hold of you and places you directly on his lap.
“Are you aware of how in love with you I am?” his question is rhetorical but you still answer it.
“I have a good idea,” you smile at your husband and lean in for a gentle and innocent kiss. Your hand placed on his shoulder. It’s adorned with your wedding ring. A memory of the happiest day of your life.
The day you became Jeon Y/N.
You recall how much your friends, who had already been married for a while, had told you that the love would fade and eventually it’s like living with a roommate.
You like to think they just didn’t marry their soulmate. Because every moment you spent with Jungkook, you spent it feeling alive and happy to be in the moment.
And you couldn’t wait to tell him the last good news of the night.
There will be a third addition to the Jeon family in nine months. Something you and Jungkook had been talking about for so long. Something you knew he was hoping for.
So when the clock hits 11:58, Jungkook is in tears, holding you with so much security.
He truly knows he won the lottery with you.

Oh can I request for Jayce? Maybe there's some miscommunication.
“I thought you said he liked me, Vik,” you hiss, voice low enough that the sound wouldn’t carry but loud enough still to convey your frustration. Viktor just rolls his eyes as he refuses to look up from his papers to talk to you.
“He does.”
That’s all you’re given, your only reassurance. Some help, you think.
You sneer at Viktor, all curled lips and furrowed brows as you get back to dumping out the old coffee grounds in the filters and restocking the sugars. You look over to Jayce, lovely handsome Jayce, who looks just as disgruntled as you. But what reason does he have to be so annoyed? Hextech has been making some nice breakthroughs lately. You on the other hand, just got snubbed by the guy you have feelings for.
It was unlike Jayce to be so terse, but lately all you’ve gotten from him are snappy comments and short clipped greetings. Gone apparently are the days where he would greet you with a hug or the warmest smile. Gone are the flirty comments or passing touches. Maybe he’s mad at you, or worse, he’s shacked up with someone else.
That would be your luck though: that Jayce had kissed you so sweetly after some wine one night and then proceeded to ignore you for two weeks straight. The nicest man in Piltover had kissed you and then decided you were worth avoiding.
The day stretches long into the evening, and you feel bad, really you do. You cannot help but continue to pester Viktor, as Jayce will barely spare you a glance. It’s unlike him, and it grates on you.
When one of the lamps starts to flicker, Viktor slams his notebook shut.
“I have to go, ah— sort out my medications,” Viktor announces, “I expect the two of you to fill the oil in the lamps before you go. You can do this, yes?”
Right, every two weeks he goes to see some nurse or something that he’s got the hots for. That’s exactly how you landed yourself in this predicament. Viktor leaves without waiting for your responses, his bag slung across his frame and his crutch tapping against the tile floor.
The lamp flickers again.
“I’ll handle it, you can go,” Jayce offers, practically gesturing to your belongings to gather them up.
“It’s fine, really. It’ll get done faster if we work together,” you insist, reaching into one of the lower cupboards for where you keep the oil. More than once you’d accidentally kicked and shattered one of the bottles, yet none of you have moved their storage.
“I really don’t mind if—“
“Why don’t you want me around anymore?” your mouth works faster than your mind, and you blurt the words out.
“That’s not true!” Jayce looks genuinely upset by your words, as if his actions haven’t been telling a different story, “I always want you around.”
You laugh in disbelief.
“It sure doesn’t feel that way. I’ll put in paperwork to transfer labs if I’m really that big of a pain to you,” you tell him, not at all trying to hide your scowl.
Jayce continues to look around, at your face, the ground, the lamps, his eyes becoming a little frantic
“I— I feel bad, okay?” Jayce stumbles over his words slightly, “Okay I shouldn’t have kissed you that night.”
Okay, ouch. That stings way more than it should. Tears prick at your eyes, stinging as they mix with your mascara.
“Then why did you?” there’s no anger left in your voice, no fight. You’re defeated. You’re going to have to ask Viktor for help finding a different lab to transfer to.
“Because it felt right, but now you’re with Vik. I shouldn’t get in the way of that!”
You can’t help the laugh that again leaves your lips. With Viktor? You? You laugh harder, grabbing the edge of the table as it escapes you.
“I’m not— really? You think I’m dating him?”
Jayce looks offended, saving face he offers an explanation.
“Well you’re always talking to each other. I notice the way you whisper when you think I’m not looking,” Jayce explains, you you want to hit the both of you. You’ve been actively trying to dress up and bat your eyelashes at Jayce and he’s been thinking that you’ve done it to impress Viktor. We’re both fucking idiots, you think.
“We’re whispering about you! Viktor’s seeing some woman that helps him with his medicine. I’ve been driving him insane asking about how to impress you,” you explain, a tear leaving your eye out of sheer exasperation at the entire situation.
“But you already impress me.”
“And I’m not dating Viktor, but I want to date you.”
Jayce steps forward, his hand reaching for your shoulder as he pulls you to his chest in a hug. His arms are warm as they wrap around your waist and squeeze.
“I’m so glad I’m not being a bad friend right now,” Jayce sighs, pressing his lips to your temple.
“Shut up,” you laugh, your hands grabbing the collar of his shirt, wrinkling the material as you pull him down to your level.
“We have two weeks of being stupid to make up for.”
His lips find yours as one of the lamps in the lab dies and bathes you in the darkness.

wanna be good
sam (stardew valley)/reader | ao3 sam makes a bet with sebastian that he can last two minutes in your mouth… he may have been overconfident wc: 1.5k cw: blow job, hand job, overstim, praise kink, sam is a good boy, a bit of cum play if you squint 18+ MDNI
it all started with a bet.
sam usually isn’t one to make bets he knows he’ll lose. not that he wins much, but at least he’s got enough self-preservation skills to avoid the situations he knows will end badly for him.
usually .
there are a lot of things to be said about sam, but one thing is certain – jodi didn’t raise a quitter. so when his stamina is brought into question – bet you can’t last two minutes in this one’s mouth, sebastian pointed at you, promptly chuckling as your mouth curled into a smirk – he jumps to defend himself. why of course he can last, he can last hours, all night even. okay, he’s not that delusional, but he is itching to prove sebastian wrong for once, to beat him at something .
“fuck, don’t do that–” sam pants, his face is already reddened as he looks down at you. big mistake. huge, actually. he should’ve kept his eyes shut, because one glance at your face, your lips wrapped tightly around his cock and eyes wide as you look up at him from your seat on the floor between his knees, and he’s gone . your damn eyes, they flutter as if asking whatever he means by that, as if you don’t know what you’re doing to ruin him. “your t-tongue… that wasn’t p-part of the deal!” he groans, throwing his head back. why was he that much of an idiot, thinking he could last, it’s been ten fucking seconds, the very moment your damn tongue grazes his tip he starts bucking his hips up like a lunatic, immediately whimpering like a puppy when he feels your warm mouth close.
you stop teasing him, poor boy is nearly deceased with the way his sensitive cock twitches inside your mouth. you don’t actually have to do anything, it turns out, he’s overstimulating himself. twitching from the comfortable warmth surrounding his tender tip, then wincing when he accidentally touches your tongue or the inside of your cheek.
it’s adorable, really, he’s cursing like you’ve never heard him do before, gripping the cushions of the couch, throwing his head back, lifting his hips… the boy doesn’t know what to do with himself. you murmur something that could be interpreted as are you alright but as you vibrate his leaking cock, sam whines, lifting his hips and nearly making you choke on him.
“ a-aaah i’msosorrysosorryshit fuck …” he tries to help, he really does, but in holding your face with his warm hands he only makes it worse for himself. “fuck!” he twitches again, the sight is too much for him, the way your eyes fill with tears when you gag on his cock, the way you look up at him trying to reassure him you’re okay, the way his hands feel your soft skin… his lips part and let out a guttural moan, spilling his load into your mouth. “i’m… i’msorryfuck… ” his hips thrust upwards a few more times, slowing down as he stops cumming, breathing heavily and softly whispering his deepest, most sincere apologies.
you’re left with little choice but to swallow his load, gently cleaning up his tip before opening your mouth and letting his still hard cock out.
it’s such a pretty sight, he looks like he’s done ten rounds in a ring, sweat glistening on his neck as his throat bobbed with the heaviness of his gulps.
“sam…” you start, not moving from the floor, but placing your palm on his thigh, rubbing slow circles over his jeans while he lifts his head with great effort, looking at you with that blissed out face, rosy cheeks and parted lips.
“fuck… i’m so sorry, i thought i could–”
“oh shut up, stop apologizing.” you interrupt him, shaking your head. “you did okay,” you lie, “i won’t tell anyone it’s only been–” checking your watch, you can’t help but chuckle, “one minute.”
with a groan, he drops his head back again, disappointed in his skill, thinking he’s going to be teased relentlessly about this, especially after he’s talked such a big game at the saloon earlier today.
“i’m so done for…” he complains, rubbing his palms over his face.
“i won’t tell, promise.” you chew on your lip for a moment, looking down to appreciate his girthy cock, still hard… and dangerously close to your lips again. “we can try again.”
your words strike like lightning into his spine, making him snap his head forward like you’ve grown a second head or turned completely purple.
“a-again?” he stutters, blinking rapidly as if clearing his head from the first orgasm.
“i’ll go easy on you, maybe we can start a little different, hm?” carefully, you wrap your hand around his girth, observing as he sharply inhales, and start slowly stroking him. “maybe with my hand first, yeah?”
sam’s hair is a damn mess, perfectly mirroring the state of his mind as he feels your grip on his cock. he nods, still breathing heavily and not trusting his hands. his long fingers dig into the couch cushion, knuckles going white as he grips it tightly, trying to keep everything in, but once a glob of your spit drips onto his tip he can’t stop the monumental moan that leaves him.
“ oooohhhh– ah j-just like that…” sam closes his eyes this time, determined to last more than a minute, maybe even aim for two.
his hips wiggle as your hand glides, wet with saliva, up to his tip and gently slides back down. you build it up, the grip consistent as he tries hard not to buck his hips up into your hand, tries to breathe evenly. slowly, carefully you lower your head, pressing just a simple kiss to his tip, but even that has him leaking precum, twitching in your hand, holding onto a sliver of self-control.
“a- ahhhh please… pleaseplease i need– i need to…” he pleads in a breathless voice, once again bucking up, desperately chasing the warmth of your lips.
“slow down, sam, be good.” your voice soothes him, but a moment passes and he registers what you’ve said.
“h-huh? what… what did you say?” he groans out, pushing the words in between little gasps of breath as your thumb gently swipes across his cock head, gathering the salty liquid and using it to help you glide better.
“be good, you can be a good boy for me, right?” your syrupy voice hits the spot. his hips lift a little higher, as do his whimpers. a smile crosses your face, a little devious as you lean in again, swiping your warm tongue on his cock. “oh you liked that, didn’t you? you wanna be a good boy for me?” you pause, feeding on his desperate sounds, on the way his hands hold onto the couch until they’re shaking, itching to close around the strands of your hair and pull .
“please…” he swallows, not daring to open his eyes, “please… more–” a strangled cry leaves him as you close your lips just around his pink tip, sucking off the quickly leaking precum. “ o-ohhh fuck please, need– a-aahhh i need t’...” sam whimpers pathetically, he keeps cursing, pleading with you, begging for nothing, unable to string a coherent sentence. “pleaseplease ohhhh so good, so good…”
“ good , you’re being good for me, sam, taking it really nicely.” you take a moment to listen to his pleas before whispering, “sweet boy, sam, that’s a good pup.” with a gentle sigh you wrap your lips around his cock again, lowering your hand to the girthy base, stroking him tenderly while your cheeks slowly hollow out. keeping your eyes on his blushed face, keeping your ear out for his higher pitched moans, you glance at your watch, speeding up slightly before releasing him from your mouth. “you gonna be good for me and cum? come on, sweet puppy, you should cum for me.” a few consecutive gasps fall from his soft mouth, followed by a curse and a whimper.
sam quickly lifts his hips, fucking up into your hand, and spills once more, pearly white strings of cum dripping over your fingers, under and between them as you stroke him until he stills.
slumped against the seat, his head swings forward, chin touching his chest as he sighs, finally daring to open his eyes to look at you. his eyes focus on your tongue licking the mess of your hand, sucking on each fingertip as you clean it of his release. sam’s hands ball into fists, he shouldn’t touch you, it’s too intimate, it’s too familiar. it’s not a part of the deal.
“two minutes and three seconds,” you say, “you did it.” with a smug smile, you lift yourself off the floor, sitting on the couch beside him with a small huff.
“i… did it?” he can hardly believe his ears. he lasted two minutes with you, he can finally say he’s won a bet against sebastian. he leans back again, breathing deeply, feeling another twitch in his cock as it grows hard once more. “wanna go for three minutes?” he sounds too smug for a man in his position, overstimulated to high heavens and barely functioning after being praised.
his cheek only earns him a chuckle and a playful smack on the chest, causing him to snicker as he throws an arm over your shoulder to bring you a little closer to his body.
“good boys don’t test my patience, sam.” you tease, leaning your head against his chest, already thinking of the next time you get to fluster him until he breaks.

rafe grieving about ur breakup so much to the point where he breaks down in front of u (angst and fluff?) tysm <3
authors note: I LOVE THIS IDEA ALSO hope this does you some justice; sorry for the late response !!
he thought he could handle it.
he told himself over and over that this was for the best, that if you didn’t love him anymore, he had no choice but to move on.
but fuck—why did it still feel like you were everywhere?
your name haunted him. it was in the laughter of passing strangers, in the lyrics of songs he used to hear you hum absentmindedly, in the scent of his hoodie that you wore more times than he did.
everywhere he looked, he found pieces of you. pieces that refused to fade.
and god, it was killing him.
he wasn’t supposed to be like this. he wasn’t supposed to care this much. he wasn’t supposed to be the one breaking.
but he was.
and it all came to a head the night he saw you again.
it wasn’t even supposed to happen. he had been avoiding you, staying away from places he knew you’d be, because every time he saw you, it felt like his ribs were caving in. but there you were—standing outside the party, arms wrapped around yourself against the cool night air, looking at him like you weren’t sure if you should speak.
for a moment, he thought about walking away. but then you said his name.
and just like that, he was unraveling.
“rafe,” you whispered again, like you knew. like you could see right through him.
he inhaled sharply, shaking his head, his throat tight. “i don’t—” he cut himself off, rubbing a hand down his face. “i can’t do this.”
“do what?” your voice was gentle, but it only made it worse.
“this.” he gestured vaguely between you. “pretending like i’m okay. pretending like it doesn’t still fucking hurt.”
the words slipped out before he could stop them, before he could shove them back down where they belonged. his breath hitched, his hands clenched into fists, but it was useless—he was already breaking.
“rafe…”
“you left,” he said, voice raw, eyes stormy and lost. “and i don’t know how to live with it. i don’t know how to be without you.”
the confession shattered something in the air between you.
he exhaled shakily, his chest rising and falling unevenly, and when he looked at you again, there was something in his eyes that made your stomach twist.
desperation.
“i don’t sleep,” he admitted, voice barely above a whisper. “i don’t eat. i don’t feel like—fuck—i don’t even feel like a real person anymore.”
your breath caught.
“i pick up my phone a hundred times a day, and i don’t even know what to say to you,” he went on, words tumbling out of him in a way that felt out of his control. “i keep thinking… if i had just done something different, if i had just—”
his voice cracked.
and then, before you could even register what was happening, he was breaking right in front of you.
his shoulders slumped, his breath coming out in short, shaky gasps. his hands ran through his hair, like he didn’t know what to do with them, like he was trying to physically keep himself together.
“tell me what to do,” he whispered. “tell me how to make this stop.”
your chest ached.
because this wasn’t the rafe cameron the world knew—the sharp, confident, untouchable boy who never let anyone see him bleed. this was the real him. the one you had spent years knowing, loving, understanding.
and right now, he was falling apart.
before you could think better of it, you stepped forward, reaching for him.
the second your hands touched his face, his breath hitched, his skin burning under your fingertips. his eyes fluttered shut, his jaw clenching, and for a moment, he just stood there, letting himself feel it.
letting himself feel you.
“you’re going to be okay,” you whispered, even though you weren’t sure if it was true.
his grip on you tightened, his forehead dropping against yours. “i don’t know how to be okay without you.”
“you will be,” you promised, though the words tasted like a lie.
he exhaled shakily, his arms wrapping around you in a way that felt desperate, like he was afraid to let go. his fingers clung to your back, his breathing uneven, and for a few long moments, neither of you moved.
and maybe, just for tonight, you let him hold you.
maybe, just for tonight, you held him back.

Sun To Me part 2

.
When we get home, I lay AJ down for his nap and try to tidy the house. I decide it is good enough and I hop in the shower. After, I stare at my closet for what feels like forever. Why do I care what I wear? Oh yeah, I know, it’s because Jake Seresin is super handsome and going to be at my house. The feeling of guilt rises again. I don’t know what to do, so I call Bradley.
.
“Hey Y/n!” I word vomit, “AJ invited Jake over to watch a movie with us and I had to clean and I took a shower and now I don’t know what to wear and I also am scared and what if Archer is mad at me.” Bradley takes a deep breath, “Y/n, why would Archer be mad at you?” A lump forms in my throat, “Because I am thinking about someone that isn’t him.” I can hear the sadness in his voice, “Archie is gone. He isn’t coming back. The Archie I knew? He wouldn’t want you to be miserable.” I don’t have any words for Bradley, just tears. He clears his throat, “Is Jake good with AJ?” “He spent the morning building sand castles with him… and now he’s going to spend his Saturday night watching a Disney movie.” “Well, I think Archie would really appreciate that.” I sigh, “Yeah. He would.” Bradley sighs, “Go get dressed and have fun. Cuddle AJ for me.” “Thank you, Roo.”
.
I throw on clean sweatpants and my OU sweater. AJ wakes up from his nap, immediately asking for Jake.
.
.
There is a knock on the door and AJ runs over. “You’re here!” Jake leans down, “Yes sir. I brought y’all some goodies.” AJ scans the bag and nods, “Good job.” Jake laughs and sets the bag on the counter. I smile, “I made pizzas, they’ll be done in a few minutes.” AJ pulls on Jake’s pant leg, “Do you want to see my room?” “Of course!” I pull the pizzas out of the oven and slice them up. When I head down the hallway, I hear AJ talking. I stand just outside the door so he can’t see me. “This one is Teddy. He would fly with Daddy and take pictures everywhere he went.” Jake smiles, “Wow, so Teddy is a world traveler?” AJ nods, “But now he just stays with me and Mommy.” AJ looks down at the bear and my heart aches. Jake leans in, “Hey bud, let’s go get some pizza and then you can eat all the candy you want… deal?” A grin spreads across AJ’s face, “Yeah!” I head back into the kitchen and make plates. We sit at the island and AJ doesn’t hesitate to scarf down his pizza. I look at Jake, “I’m sorry about his table manners. They go right out the window when it comes to pizza.” Jake chuckles, “It is delicious, so I understand. How are you liking your work here?” “It is great. Back in Washington, I was always sitting at a desk. This is a nice change of pace.” I look around and face palm, “I forgot to ask, would you like some wine?” “Sure.” I open a bottle of red, hoping Jake doesn’t feel the nerves radiating off of me. I hand him a glass and he smiles at me, “Cheers.”
.
.
Beauty and the Beast ends, and we look down at AJ. His head is resting in Jake’s lap and he is surrounded by candy and popcorn. I scoop him up and Jake pats his head, “Goodnight little buddy.” Looking up, I clear my throat, “I’m gonna lay him down… If you want to stay we could watch something made for adults and have another glass of wine?” Jake’s smile lights up my dark living room, “I’d like that.” Heat spreads across my face, “Okay… I’ll be right back.” After I tuck AJ in, I stand there for a moment. Tonight has been amazing. AJ seems so comfortable with Jake. I try my best to push down my nerves before I walk back into the living room.
.
.
Jake is standing by my record player, looking through my vinyls. He raises an eyebrow, “You have quite the collection.” I glance at the countless rows, “I started collecting a few months ago. AJ loves going to secondhand shops with me to find them.” I pour us some more wine. He pulls out American Heartbreak and sets the needle to “Sun To Me”. The same song that played last night. His hand reaches out. I set down my wine and he pulls me in. My hand rests on his chest as his settles on my waist. His scent calms me. His touch soothes me. We sway back and forth. He is whisper singing along as I hum. In a moment of vulnerability, I rest my head on his chest. His lips brush the top of my head. I close my eyes as a fluttering feeling rises in my chest. Part of me waits for the guilt to rise, but it doesn’t. What Bradley said earlier really opened my eyes. And right here in this moment, I feel happier than I have in a long time. The song ends and Jake plants a kiss on the top of my head, “I love that song.” I look up at him, “Me too.”
.
.
I sit on the couch, he joins me after putting on an old country record. After a sip of wine I work up to courage to ask Jake about himself, “So, where are you from?” “Texas. What about you?” “Oklahoma, but before here we were in Washington.” He chuckles, “I was wondering about that sweatshirt… but I’ll let it slide.” I gasp, “You’re a Longhorn?” He nods and I shake my head, “Jake, that makes us mortal enemies.” His smirk makes a warmth spread throughout my body, “Well darling, maybe we can call a truce.” I tap my chin, “Maybe, but AJ is a diehard fan. He loves going to games.” Jake thinks for a second, “I’m thinking he just hasn’t seen the beauty that is a UT game. Once he goes to one he’ll convert.” I playfully grab my chest, “He’d be breaking his Momma’s heart.” Curiosity flashes across his face, “Do you have any siblings?” I shake my head, “Just me. Parents are older and never leave the farm. Do you?” He smiles so big, “Two sisters. My whole family is still in Austin.” I look down at my wine, “I always pictured AJ having siblings. Growing up was pretty lonely, I was so jealous of my friends that had brothers and sisters.” His green eyes glaze over with sadness, “I’m sorry. I’m sure none of this is what you had planned.” I sip my wine and shrug, “It’s okay. It’s one thing you know can happen when you marry the military. Everyone just prays that it isn’t them. I feel the worst for AJ… he didn’t sign up for it.” There’s a moment of silence. Jake clears his throat, “AJ is a great kid. He’s lucky to have a Mom like you.” A lump forms in my throat. I smile softly, “Thank you, Jake. Having Maverick and Rooster close is going to be good for him.” Jake laughs, “I mean, Rooster put a car seat in the Bronco! I never thought I’d see the day.” We sit there, giggling and sipping wine. It feels so nice. When we talk, he is giving 100% of his attention to our conversation. He is holding onto every word I say like it’s the most important thing he’s ever heard. I notice that his eyes light up when he’s talking about his family and home. I love seeing the corner of his eyes crinkle when he smiles. “Thank you for coming over. AJ was so excited. You really didn’t have to do all this.” Jake shrugs, “I know I didn’t have to… I wanted to. AJ is great. His Mom is pretty great too.” My cheeks are hot and I look down at my hands. My throat feels dry and I can’t find any words. Finally I look up at him, “This is the first time I have felt seen in a while.” His green eyes pierce mine, “I see you, Y/n. I can’t seem to think about anything but you since last night.” My voice is low, “Really?” He nods and leans in closer. We are just a breath away from each other. His voice is barely a whisper, “Is this okay?” The warmth is building all throughout my body. I nod. He grins and closes the space between us. His lips meet mine. They are warm and soft. The kiss is gentle and sweet. There’s a spark there that I never thought I’d feel again. Flutters touch my heart. When we pull apart, Jake looks just as breathless as me. I lean into him and he drapes an arm around my shoulders. Silence surrounds us, somehow it is comfortable and exciting.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
It’s been a little over a year. You’d think that you’d be over it by now. Buck was back. He was back at work, fully present and over the side effects of the lightening strike, and everyone has gone through therapy for it. You should be fine.
Tonight, you went to bed as normal. You were between the boys, wrapped tightly in their embrace. Buck had you tucked into his chest as the thunderstorms continued on outside. This had been the worst storm that LA has had since that night, so it was almost expected for the three of you to be shaken up by the bright bolts of lightening and the deep rumbling of thunder.
It took you a while to get to sleep. Eddie had drifted off first. He normally liked thunderstorms. The pitter patter of rain on the windows and the low rumbles of thunder soothed him. As long as he had you and Buck indoors, he had no worries. You and Buck drifted off together as the storm died down. You were both tired, but extremely jumpy when lightning would strike. The thunder didn’t really bother either of you, but the lightening still had a hold on you.
A few hours later, the boys woke to you screaming for Buck. You had rolled onto your back as some point, out of Buck’s grip, and Eddie had rolled to face the door as he normally did when he fell asleep. You jerked, screaming Buck’s name at the top of your lungs just like you did that night as you watched Eddie climb the latter as fast as he could to get Buck while Bobby and Hen held you back on the ground.
“Y/n!” Buck said urgently, sitting up as Eddie turned on the light. “Baby. Hey. It’s alright. I’m here.” Buck said, smoothing your hair back and off of your sweat soaked face. He placed his other hand on your shoulder, but you jerked away, bucking into Eddie as he gently held your hips down.
“Esta bien mi amor. Esta bien cariño. [Its okay my love. It’s okay sweetie] ” Eddie whispered, getting low on the bed to get close to your ear. He didn’t want to force you awake and disorient you further, but your thrashing was becoming harsh and so was your breathing.
“Baby please. It’s okay. I’m here. I’m right here.” Buck begged, holding your shoulders lightly as he drew circles on your clavicle with his thumbs. “Open your eyes sweetheart. Come on baby.” Buck muttered, pressing his thumbs a bit harder to try to rouse you.
You gasped, scrambling up toward the headboard with one last scream of Buck’s name. You jerked your head around, searching the room with wild eyes as you tried to get your bearings. You muttered softly to yourself, curling into a ball and rocking yourself back and forth.
“Hey baby. You with us?” Eddie asked, coming a little closer to hear what you were muttering.
“197 seconds. 197 seconds. 197 seconds.” You kept repeating, rocking back and forth with tears steadily streaming down your face.
Eddie’s heart broke as he heard your muttered words. 197 seconds. 3 minutes and 17 seconds. That’s how long Buck was declared dead for. An awful 197 seconds.
“Sweetheart. I’m here. I’m right here.” Buck said, trying to catch your eyes.
“Dad? Pops? Is mom okay?” Chris asked, sleepily leaning against the doorframe. He didn’t have his crutches, having done his best to hurry toward his parent’s room when he heard the scream. He squinted as he tried to look past his dads, without his glasses, wearily eyeing the glimpse he had of your shaking form.
“Hey mijo. Go back to bed.” Eddie said, looking over his shoulder as he leaned into Chris’ view to hide your distressed body. “Mom had a bad dream. It’s alright now.” Eddie reassured.
“M-maybe she needs a bubble bath.” Chris suggested, shrugging his shoulders as he turned around to head back to his room. The only way Chris would calm down after a nightmare was having a bubble bath. Even after the tsunami, as long as there were plenty of bubbles in the bath, he would instantly calm down.
Eddie sighed, smiling gently as he watched his son’s retreating form. The three of you have raised a good kid. Buck quietly talked to you, finally getting you to stop rocking, as you allow him to hold your hand. You were still muttering and shaking as you panted out the words. Sweat soaked your neck and back when Eddie placed a gently hand between your shoulder blades.
“Babe. I think I’m gonna run her a bubble bath. You got this?” Eddie asked, leaning over you to kiss Buck on the forehead. Buck as a wreck. He kept it out of his voice and face, but his eyes told Eddie all he needed to know.
Buck nodded and watched Eddie slide off the bed. Once he disappeared into the en-suite, Buck turned back to you. “Hey baby. Look at me Angel. Let me see those eyes.” Buck whispered, taking the hand that had been holding you steady at the shoulder to gently tilt your head his way. Once you made eye contact, you crumpled, finally registering who was holding onto you. You sobbed loudly, throwing yourself into Buck’s chest. “I know. I know. I’m here. Shhhh it’s all okay now.” Buck whispered, gently kissing the top of your head.
“Buck.” You gasped over and over, wiggling and practically squeezing yourself as close to him as you could. In the back of your mind, you were terrified Buck would suddenly disappear. You hoped and prayed that you were awake and this was your reality. Buck holding you and speaking gently to you in your shared room on your shared bed.
“Sh sh sh. I’m here. I’m here. You're awake. It’s over.” Buck soothed, kissing the side of your head as Eddie stepped back into the room. He stopped short and leaned his shoulder into the doorframe as he observed the way you and Buck were wrapped around each other. Buck and Eddie locked eyes. In that moment, Eddie knew Buck needed to handle this, so he stepped out into the dark hallway to check and make sure Christopher was back in bed.
You couldn’t stop the tears as they poured down your face, soaking Buck’s pajama shirt. You had fistfuls of the fabric, clinging to him like he would disappear. You could almost feel the rain on your face. You could still smell the rain, the fumes emitting from the fire trucks, the smell of your team as they held you back, the antiseptic smell of the hospital, and the lingering smell of Buck’s charred skin and hairs. You choked, causing Buck to pat your back like he was saving a choking child. Eventually he pulled you back to force your eyes to meet his.
“Hey. Look at me.” Buck pled, holding your face in his hands. “Look at me baby. Open your eyes.” Buck instructed, waiting for you to comply. When you did, he sweetly smiled at you. “There you are. I’m here. Breathe. Just breathe for me, yeah?” He encouraged, taking slow, deep breaths for you to follow.
You nodded, trying your best to follow. You tried pulling yourself back into Buck’s chest, chasing after his scent, but he held you in place. “I-I can s-smell it.” You shuddered, a jolt going through your body. You repressed a gag, your body responding to the rush of adrenaline and the phantom smells.
Buck nodded. He thinks he understood what you meant. The same thing happened when he had nightmares of Eddie’s shooting, the tsunami, and the bombing. “Okay baby. It’s okay.” Buck said, pulling you to the side of the bed and carrying you into the bathroom. The room was filled with the scent of his body wash and he smirked at the realization. Eddie knew exactly what you needed.
Eddie walked in as Buck sat with you on the floor next to the toilet, just incase. “Whoa. We good?” Eddie asked, leaning over to shut the faucet off before kneeling next to his partners.
“Feeling a bit iffy I think.” Buck said, rubbing your back as you leaned into him. “Think PTSD” Buck mouthed over your head to Eddie. Buck only had his suspicions and the vague words you spoke to him, but he was sure he knew what was happening. If it was anything like what he had experienced, he knows you are possibly fighting a losing battle.
“Hey cariño. Esta bein.[Hey sweetie. It’s okay.]” Eddie whispered, kissing the back of your head. He could feel you break out into a cold sweat and squeezed his eyes shut, praying that you could keep control of your body for your own sake.
You shuddered, gulping and taking measured breaths. A wave of nausea rolled through your body, but never reached the surface as you focused on the hands that were on you, Eddie muttering in Spanish, Buck hushing you with gentle words and the softest of caresses. You were awake. You were awake in Buck’s arms. Eventually, you relaxed, repeating to yourself that you were awake. This was real.
When Buck noticed that you were becoming limp in his arms, he shifted and dipped a hand in the bath water. “Hey baby. Let’s get you in the bath, hmm? It’s nice and warm.” Buck whispered, kissing your head. Your head was colder than normal, the drying sweat cooling your body more than it should. Buck was worried you were in shock.
You nodded and let Eddie pull you into a sitting position in Buck’s lap. Eddie pulled his army shirt off of you and tossed it into the laundry basket by the closet door. He helped you stand and held you close as Buck pulled your underwear off your shaking legs. Eddie gently lifted you and placed you into the tub, kissing your forehead with a gently smile on his lips. Turning, Eddie kissed Buck’s check after whispering something to him and left.
Buck stood, sitting on the edge of the tub, leaning against the wall. You put your head against the side of his thigh, smiling as he put his hand in your hair and gently scratched your scalp once he removed your hair tie. “Eddie is getting us some water and a popsicle for you to help calm you down. Wanna sit here for a few minutes before I wash your hair and get you back in bed?” Buck asked, lightly pulling your hair back to force your eyes to meet his. He was gentle, only pulling enough to tilt your head in his direction, which you willingly did.
You smiled and nodded, sinking into the water with a sigh. It was a little cooler than you normally liked it, but you had wasted a few minutes on the floor. When Eddie stepped in with a pedialyte popsicle, you were starting to fully relax. Eddie kneeled, resting his head and arm over Buck’s lap as he gently fed you the hydrating ice pop. He didn’t want you to have to move, but he knows popsicles help calm you, plus you needed to rehydrate after all the sweat and tears. Once the popsicle was gone, Eddie left again, telling Buck to get you situated while he changed the sweat soaked sheets.
Buck hummed, eyes half lidded as he watched Eddie walk away, admiring his physique. Buck turned to you once Eddie was gone and smiled as you soaked, head still firmly planted into the side of his thigh. He hated to break the tranquil air, but he knew the water had to be turning cold. “Alright sweetheart. Let’s give your hair a wash and get you back in bed.” Buck whispered, barely bursting the bubble of peace as he shifted to have better access. He was gentle, but quick and efficient as he washed your hair. He made sure not to pull and opted to use your leave in conditioner instead of rinsing your hair again. When it was time to rinse, he unplugged the drain and used the shower head to avoid more soap getting into your hair from the still sudsy water.
When Eddie heard the water turn off, he walked in and grabbed your towel, taking you into his arms as Buck grabbed your leave in conditioner and detangling brush. Eddie gently dried you off and held you in his lap as Buck massaged the conditioner in and grabbed your microfiber towel. Buck gently pulled your hair brush through your hair as you laid in Eddie’s chest, legs wrapped around his waist and face pressed into his neck. You hummed when Buck gently brushed over your scalp, enjoying the feeling it gave you. By the time he was done brushing your hair, you were mostly asleep. Eddie let Buck carry you back to your freshly made bed before helping put Buck’s favorite Henley and some underwear on your sleepy form. Once you were settled on Buck’s chest in bed, Eddie made quick work of wringing your hair dry and braiding it before he turned off the light and laid down. Eddie prays once more, asking God to keep you, Buck, and Christopher nightmare free for the remainder of the night and finally falls back to sleep when he hears your soft snores mixed with Buck’s.

Chapter 8: Lean On Me
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/95cb199006b0b9517ebbcc6213f693c8/3494bd42d93ede66-5c/s540x810/6ddbb22e671f5113569f4af4c795fec8585337ca.jpg)
It had been a week since Y/N had broken up with Se-hun, yet the weight of it still clung to her like a storm cloud that refused to dissipate. The members had done everything they could to support her, but she had withdrawn into herself, shutting them out. Every day, they left food and water at her door, relieved whenever she took even a single bite. They didn’t push her, didn’t force her to talk just waited, hoping she would find her way back to them in her own time.
That evening, the members gathered in the living room, their expressions a mix of concern and helplessness. They had all visited Y/N, all except one.
Dino, who had been sitting in thoughtful silence, suddenly turned to Seungcheol. “Hyung,” he said hesitantly. “You can help her.”
Seungcheol blinked in surprise. “Me?”
Dino nodded, scratching the back of his neck as he tried to find the right words. “Yeah. I don’t know why, but I just have this feeling. She needs you.”
The others exchanged glances before nodding in agreement. “You should go,” Joshua encouraged. “Just try.”
With a nervous breath, Seungcheol got to his feet and walked toward Y/N’s room. He knocked gently but received no response. Slowly, he pushed the door open, stepping into the dimly lit space. She was curled up on her bed, facing the wall. Her small frame seemed even smaller under the weight of her sorrow.
“Y/N,” he called softly, but she didn’t move.
Carefully, he sat down on the edge of the bed. “Come here lean on me,” he said in a soft tone. “Talk to me tell me everything what’s on your mind, don’t leave anything out. Even if we talk through the night. I’ll be on your side.”
A shudder ran through her, and for the first time in days, she turned to face him. Her eyes were red, her face stained with dried tears. Slowly, hesitantly, she shifted forward, resting her head against his chest. The moment she did, a strange warmth spread through both of them a quiet flutter in their stomachs, a feeling they didn’t quite understand yet. And then, she broke. Her body shook with quiet sobs, and Seungcheol wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly.
“I’m not crying because of Se-hun,” she whispered between gasps. “I’m crying because I let it happen. I let him play with my feelings. I wasted so much time on him. Time I could’ve spent finding my real love.”
She tilted her head up slightly, eyes meeting his. There was something raw and vulnerable in her gaze, something that made his heart tighten. That unspoken feeling lingered between them, but neither of them dared to acknowledge it.
“You didn’t waste time,” he said firmly. “You learned. And now you know what you deserve something better.”
She gave him a small, broken smile. “Then why does it still hurt so much?”
“Because you cared,” he answered simply. “Because you’re human. But you can’t let him have that power over you anymore.”
They sat in silence for a while, her breathing gradually evening out. The warmth between them remained, a quiet electricity neither of them quite understood. Finally, he pulled back slightly, brushing her hair out of her face. “Come on. Go to the bathroom, freshen up a bit. You’ve let this bring you down for too long.”
Y/N hesitated, but the steady resolve in his eyes gave her strength. She nodded slowly and got up, disappearing into the bathroom.
As soon as she was gone, Seungcheol looked around the room. It was a mess blankets strewn about, empty water bottles, untouched plates of food. With quiet efficiency, he set to work, straightening the bed, opening the window for fresh air, and tidying up. By the time he was done, the space looked more like Y/N’s room again, rather than a reflection of her heartbreak.
Satisfied, he made his way to the kitchen. The moment he stepped in, the members swarmed him with questions.
“How is she?”
“Did it work?”
“Is she okay?”
Before he could respond, the sound of soft footsteps interrupted them. They all turned to see Y/N standing in the doorway. She looked like a completely different person. Her hair was brushed, her face washed, and there was a spark of life in her eyes that had been missing for days.
The room fell silent before breaking into quiet murmurs of relief and joy. They were careful, though watching her closely, as if she might break again at any moment.
She offered them a small, appreciative smile. “I’m starving,” she admitted.
The tension broke instantly. “Finally!” Jeonghan sighed dramatically, making everyone laugh. They quickly set the table, filling plates with warm food.
They decided to watch a movie together, keeping the atmosphere light. Laughter filled the room, and for the first time in a week, Y/N laughed with them. It wasn’t completely healed, but it was a start.
Somewhere in the middle of the film, Y/N’s eyelids grew heavy. She fought to stay awake, but the warmth of the room, the comfort of her friends, and the steady presence beside her made it impossible. Her head lolled to the side, landing softly on Seungcheol shoulder. The moment her head touched him, his heart skipped a beat. That strange, unfamiliar feeling returned something both exciting and terrifying.
He glanced down at her, then at the others, who all exchanged knowing smiles. Without a word, he carefully gathered her in his arms and carried her back to her room. He laid her down gently, pulling the blanket over her. As he did, he brushed a strand of hair from her face and whispered, “I won’t let anyone hurt you like that again.”
As he pulled back, he felt it again that flutter in his chest, the way his fingers tingled where they had touched her skin. He didn’t quite understand it, and neither did she.

I’ve kind of had this post/a version of this post brewing for two weeks or more now, but like, last night I left a discord community I’d been a part of since the pandemic, where I was one of the first and founding members, over something that I guess could be considered “not that big a deal” and that was definitely…something that stung certainly. Typically, I’m not exactly a “pack up it’s time to hit the bricks” sort of person, and overall I think I can say that I’m fairly? okay/open to talking about things in a way that’s meant to be explanatory/educational especially as it comes to be Chinese Diaspora.
Yet I also think that at this point it was impossible for me to stay because at this point I am so sick and tired of the rampant Sinophobia that exists in fandom spaces, especially ones that demand that CMedia caters to their sense of aesthetics regarding pretty gay men while fetishizing/refusing to engage with the very real problems that Chinese Diaspora/Chinese Nationals face, especially when we try to point things out.
In this case, this particular discussion was brought about re: a discussion about Falun Gong. which is a cult. And when I pointed out that saying “only China and Russia will be happy about a decrease in US hegemony on the global stage” was uhhh pretty Sinophobic of them (admittedly, not politely and perhaps too emotionally for people to take me seriously), they responded with “It’s my right to criticize whatever country I want actually even if it’s one you like and you can’t just accuse me of -phobia or whatever because of this” along with some other stuff that basically amounted to “I have 0 empathy about a number of very personal issues that you’re currently facing because I’m not American and your country sliding into fascism is your own fault wah wah cry harder.”
Given that I’d known this person for going on four or more years now, this was…really a “ah, we’ve completely lost you to multiple brands of Kool Aid here” moment. And instead of staying to argue my point, or to try to explain that maybe this server that was primarily about anime with a smattering of cdrama on the side really shouldn’t be so chill with this sort of talk (After all, how often is it that someone prefaces their love of anime with: oh but don’t worry! I don’t support anything that the Imperial Japanese Government Did or anything they’re currently or have done in the past to Ainu people!) I decided to leave.
In some sense, I feel like I’ve overstayed my welcome. I’d become this sort of killjoy, you see, because there’s only so many times you can point out a problem to a person or a group without starting to becoming that one person that’s too serious or always stomping on other people’s fun or policing them for “incorrect” expressions of their thoughts or whatever.
And this brings me to the like “what is a killjoy?” part of this thought because so much of life is about those sorts of battles: when do I think it might be safe to express an opinion? When do I think it’s okay to say “hey that wasn’t a great statement to make, cut it out” ? How often do I think I might be supported or heard when it comes to something like that? Who am I creating pushback for — the person who said something shitty or the other people who might not realize or not know what to say in response to something shitty?
So much of the time, I err on the side of trying to explain that Chinese people, ethnically Chinese diaspora, Chinese nationals, whatever are people who gasp! Have thoughts and feelings and possess a modicum of intelligence perhaps like you do, instead of just saying “oh fuck off” or fucking off myself. So much of the time, I debate whether it’s polite to mention that this thirst to see pretty gay Asian men combined with this blanket rage at “censorship by the evil government” (as if censorship regarding queer subjects does not exist in the English speaking west) or “government propaganda” (as if, laughably, governmental propaganda does not exist in the English speaking west) is in fact, actively alienating to those who are ethnically Chinese.
Or if perhaps, by stretching and bending and purposefully misunderstanding the customs of Chinese characters and erasing their names and traditions and refusing to engage with our holidays and substituting your own is a form of microaggressive violence towards those in your fandom community who are Chinese.
After all, if I do point this out, it’s a matter of “Tav, literally we just want WangXian to celebrate Christmas, it’s harmless.” (We will refuse to learn about new years traditions beyond Gong Xi Fa Cai and exaggerated bows and we will refuse to engage with Qingming or Mid Autumn or ancestor worship or filial piety if we even know what those are because those aren’t sexy and familiar as decorating a fucking Christmas tree after all.)
As for exactly what this particular longtime acquaintance had said was my own fault re: America’s slide into fascism — my youngest maternal cousin died two weeks ago, and my mother is too terrified of leaving the country to go to his memorial service because she’s afraid that as a green card holder, she won’t be able to make it back into the country to ever see her husband or daughters again with the way this current administration is handling things.
He was twenty four years old and his parents’ only child.
But yes, perhaps I was impolite in my expression of what I was afraid of.

So, I might not be the best at celebrating Valentine’s Day, but I’m all in for enjoying Dream Boyfriend days ❣️
… and after our conversation, I just couldn’t resist putting together this little blurb 💕 It might not be anything special, but it’s my love letter to you ❤️

One Night, Not Enough I A William Nylander One-Shot
It wasn’t supposed to be anything more than a single night.
That was the unspoken rule, the understanding you both had when you left the bar together, when his lips ghosted over your skin, when you tangled yourself in his sheets and let the night take you somewhere reckless and fleeting.
But fleeting wasn’t the word William would use now.
Because it had been days. Days since he last saw you, since he felt your warmth beside him, since your laughter had echoed in his ears. And it was driving him insane.
He had told himself it was just a good time, a great night—nothing more. But then, in the middle of a team meeting, he found himself staring blankly at the whiteboard, wondering what you were doing. During training, he nearly wiped out on the ice because his brain had decided to conjure up the way you had smirked at him right before you left his condo.
And then there was this giddy, borderline embarrassing thing happening to him.
Every time he even thought about seeing you again, his heart did this stupid little flip, and he caught himself smiling at nothing like some lovesick idiot.
Mitch had noticed, of course.
“You good, man?” his teammate had asked, squinting at him in the locker room. “You keep smiling at your phone like it just paid off your mortgage.”
William had scoffed, shoved his phone in his pocket, and muttered something about “none of your business.” But deep down, he knew—he wasn’t good.
Because he had never felt like this before.
And now, as he walking into the café where you had agreed to meet him, he felt ridiculous. His hands were shoved deep into the pockets of his hoodie, and he was bouncing slightly on the balls of his feet, trying to shake off the nervous energy buzzing through his veins.
This wasn’t how things were supposed to go. You were supposed to be the one overthinking, the one fidgeting. But no, William fucking Nylander—NHL star, completely composed in high-pressure situations—was losing it over the idea of seeing you again.
When you finally walked through the door, he had to remind himself to breathe.
“Hey,” you greeted, slipping off your jacket as you approached the table.
“Hey,” he replied, and then—because he was, apparently, a mess—he let out a nervous little chuckle.
You raised a brow. “You okay?”
“Yeah,” he said way too quickly. “No. I mean, yeah. Just—uh—glad you came.”
Oh, for fuck’s sake.
You smiled, amused. “You sound surprised.”
William scratched the back of his neck. “I just… wasn’t sure you would.”
“Why wouldn’t I?” you asked, tilting your head slightly.
He licked his lips, huffed out a breath. “Because I haven’t stopped thinking about you since that night. And I don’t know if that makes me sound like a complete idiot or just a little bit of an idiot—but either way, I wanted to see you again.”
Your eyes flickered with something unreadable, and for a second, he thought he had completely ruined it. But then you leaned in slightly, resting your elbows on the table.
“Well,” you murmured, lips quirking. “If it makes you feel better… I haven’t stopped thinking about you either.”
And holy shit—he had to physically stop himself from grinning like a total fool.
“Okay,” he breathed, nodding as if he was trying to play it cool—which he absolutely was not. “That’s… that’s really good.”
You laughed softly. “You are really bad at hiding how much you like this, aren’t you?”
William groaned, dragging a hand down his face. “It’s embarrassing, honestly.”
But you only smiled wider. “I think it’s cute.”
And just like that, he was done for.
What can I say Sophia. This is magical. Something so perfect for what we were discussing having reassigned Valentines Day to Dream Boyfriend Day. I could just imagine this whole scene - and it's William that's internally losing his mind with being so smitten. That's the dream. I love this so much - thank you for taking the time to grace my inbox with the images I have conjured with your words. Best inaugural Dream Boyfriend Day present I could ever hope for!

Wicked deleted scenes (jumping on the bed, I won’t leave you behind, sleeping and cuddling on the train) I’m convinced were not cut for time but because it would genuinely confuse audiences the nature of their relationship.
#wicked#gelphie#okay I’m going to try to be done for the night#wicked deleted scenes I fear gave me the adrenaline to run a marathon
