Last night I was listening to different Harumi themes and I noticed something about the music in two very important scenes for her: the scene where Lloyd discovers she is the Quiet One in Game of Masks and the scene where she saves the family in Saving Faith.

In both scenes, arpeggios are used to build tension when a character comes to a revelation (I believe those are arpeggios but I am not 100% sure of the proper musical terminology so feel free to correct me). Both revelations involve Harumi's motivations. Lloyd comes to the realisation that Harumi was using him to get the third Oni Mask, while Harumi realises her actions are leading to children losing their parents and becoming like her.

Then Harumi's leitmotif plays after the arpeggios finish. I watched an analysis of Harumi's leitmotif on Youtube by the Official Ninjago Music Channel, which I definitely recommend checking out. The video states that Ninjago composers tend to use wind instruments for heroes (such as the Overture) and string instruments for the villains (such as Morro's leitmotif). In the Games of Masks scene, Harumi's leitmotif is played by a flute as she tries one final attempt to convince Lloyd she isn't the Quiet One. In the Saving Faith scene, Harumi's leitmotif is played with string instruments.

By this point Harumi is fully unmasked, so it makes sense for her leitmotif to be played with string instruments in Saving Faith. However, I think there is another reason than just "Harumi pretending to be good versus Harumi is now fully evil" here. The string instruments create a sense of sorrow, as Harumi fails to save herself and ends up in the same fate as her parents due to her own actions of resurrecting Garmadon.

I also want to talk about her death as the music is significant here. As the building crumbles, Harumi's leitmotif plays with a sorrowful violin. You would think that after Harumi does a heroic act, her leitmotif would be played with a flute again. Having her leitmotif played with a violin shows that despite Harumi saving the family, her actions and the hatred she has harboured against the ninja have turned her into a villain. In her final moments, Harumi is punished for her actions as the building crumbles.

The music in these scenes does a great job of telling a story for Harumi. She went from a person harbouring hatred and trying to trick Lloyd into thinking she was good, to someone who realised her actions and hatred were going to make people end up like her. Even after one final act of heroism, Harumi dies a villain. The music represents this, and the violin make her final moments all the more tragic.

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

I could think of no better way to share the news than this!

So when I was 17, my cat went missing and I'd given up hope of ever seeing him again.

Until on Monday, 27th of May, 2024, my friend sent me a FB post asking 'isn't that your mother?' about the person named on the microchip.

Here he is! 16 years old, and found safe, twelve whole years after he went missing!

Yesterday (Tuesday the 28th of May, 2024) I went to the rescue that had him, and I reclaimed my boy, renaming him Artie! (He'd originally been called 'Cat' because my mother and I couldn't decide on a name)

He's home safe with me now, currently inhabiting my bathroom and purring up a storm every time someone goes in there!

I'll be doing slow introductions between him and my current cat to give them the best possible chance of living in harmony!
