sick and tired of seeing people use zip ties for boning. listen to me i am a costume designer stop using plastic which does not hold your shape (the whole point of boning) you do not need to buy proper coiled boning or anything: go to a hardware store and find flat metal tension spring (google tells me that's what it's called, unfortunately i also don't know what its used for in hardware store related things so i cant describe it if that isnt the correct translation, soz) you can get a roll of 15m x 4mm tension spring for about 15 euros where i live and then you just have to cut it with metal shears (you can use a regular cutting pliers probably but if you have metal shears you will be happier) then either file down the edges a bit if you're genuinely gonna wear it a lot, or you just wind some tape around the edges to make sure putting them in the channels isn't gonna rip your fabric and anyway now you have an actually functional boned garment. go to a hardware store and show them this pic btw:
^ this is what you want. also bc this is 4mm wide around stress points like closures you want to make 2 channels right alongside each other and put in 2 pieces of tension spring for stability

strangelove and the boss make me fucking SICK honestly. in a good way. they're so fucking great
#ive seen a few ppl say smth like 'ok but isn't strangelove kind of fucked up actually'? and im like. YES??????? I know it's way too soon for this opinion but...
Fontaine's archon quest is still the best right? Natlan's is at least 2nd or 3rd but I don't think anything can beat Fontaine's.
I havent played the interlude, i don't want to make assumptions but my friend described it as a power of friendship thing so...
I am biased so yea Fontaine beloved but IF they pull a really good and fitting finale I may not be so harsh on it
#ill save my thoughts for when i did play the quest#but i generally consider a good story if it has a good finale that makes sense#based on the things theyve set up and how it all ties back to the story#i like fontaine alot because the people involved were not chosen ones#sure it was ultimately a story about neuvi furina and the prophecy#but the rest were human and lived through struggles that is unique to fontaine#and we get to see that struggle and preparation pay off at the end#natlan to me was shallow because it was basically birth right.#we need this specific person whose been blessed but the wayob is just taking their sweet time showing that#there was no struggle to get to that point of 'being worthy of being the chosen one'#things just happen in their life and the wayob was like sure ok ur cool#like look at iansan and xilonen who was just already the chosen ones when the AQ started#we dont get to see what happened for them to receive that title#they just.. ARE#thats why i think its generic#lyssten to my rambles

actually, while I'm still thinking about that first knife headcanon - specifically the fact I mentioned in the tags that they still have the knife even though they don't use it anymore and it's pretty beaten up at this point - I can't help but mention that byan... is actually pretty sentimental. if something was ever important to them for any reason, be it bc it helped them survive or bc someone they care about gave it to them, they hold on to that shit forever. but at the same time, they're also... anti-sentimental? by which I mean, if something reminds them of or was given to them by someone who's no longer in they're life, they'll burn that shit to get it out of their life too. those who have hurt them, abandoned them, etc. are allowed to take up absolutely no real estate in their mind or memories, and setting all the shit tied to them on fire is the way byan tries to set that into action. does it work? no, they have a very hard time letting that sort of hurt go. but it does help.
#doesn't matter how much they like the items either#they've definitely burned clothes they LOVED bc they came from a foster parent who couldn't take care of them any longer#the betrayal is more impactful to them than how much they like whatever item is tied to that person. I like to think that my design choice of using (mostly) cosmetic options you get from base-game-spirits, two of which you start with, was a very Big Brained move of me considering what they mean and what 9 is in the movie.

if im being honest and allowing myself to vent a bit about it ... another red flag was when the DM went 'wow i love the detail of your backstory but idk what i can do with it tho ):'
#[static]#it immediately made me feel bad for trying to make a character work with the aesthetic she had given us tbh#i could already tell she didnt seem to be super character story driven so i just made a pretty simple drifter-type#for a post-apocalyptic setting n such and made a group that tied into the whole over-arching premise#i also literally just did bullet points cuz i could tell she wasn't gonna want to read one of the backstories i usually do#and as someone who has mostly dm'd in the past i did my v best to make a character that was super easy for the dm to incorporate in any way#like a solid reason for being there a reason for wanting to adventure with strangers a reason for seeing the mission through no matter what#made a whole small faction and connected them to the overarching theme and plot in multiple ways#wrote down lore and npcs she could use for the faction if she didnt want to make up her own#like all the works and all i got was two sentences back about it ... one of them being like 'cool but i dont like the extra details'#aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh#ok im done yelling now i just need to vent for a second#i feel bad for feeling kinda bummed about the experience because this is the first time i got to play at a physical table in years#and i know how hard it is to DM#but also when you come to the table with zero notes for the first session its ... probably gonna be disappointing jkfghdf#i DID have fun however because the party banter was hilarious and it was fun getting to hang out with ppl!#but communication between DM and players was not great#also let me be clear she did like that i made so many connections and hooks into the story and it helped her a lot#she was NOT interested in my character's past like ... jobs or npcs#but also u could just Not say anything about it and just be like 'sweet cool thanks for the info' LMAo

i wonder why Spearmaster has no strong connections with violence or the violence karma despite being only able to feed when impaling other creatures

Gourmand heavily tied with gluttony and companionship but can ascend + who gives a fuck about him am i right guys#Hunter can grow past its tie to the anchor of violence and survival + i dont think Rivulet even has any strong ties beyond companionship#so of course Riv can ascend Riv can do whatever it wants + Saints anchor to the world is existence itself or maybe ascension violence#dont ask me what the fuck is going on with Saint because then it brings Echoes into the process and that further fucks everything up#obviously Monk can follow in Survivor's footsteps but has even less sins anchoring him to the world + Paincat isnt canon#Artificer cannot do any of these things though because ? fuck you is why. i dont know. had an insane moment tonight where i just got repeatedly shamed by friends multiple times within minutes but it's ok now bc i don't have to see these people until next semester :) the minute you repeatedly make me feel bad within a matter of minutes and after i realize every time i hang out with you i feel bad you get put into the realm of "our friendship has a timer" ^___^ no more of this lol

I finally got around to watching the Dragon Age - An Entire Series Retrospective and Analysis video on youtube, and i was enjoying it up until the point of origins companions being introduced and hearing "Zevran, the bisexual assassin, whose main personality traits are that he's bisexual and an assassin."
#listen im sure this guy has great points and points i will respectfully disagree with and see where hes coming from#but this shows nothing more than a cpmplete and utter lack of understanding zevran's character#you're analyzing a video game but can't even see behind how a character wants others to see them? ok.......#and like. ok. i get it. it was a joke probably directed at the time he was written in and how those two things make up a lot of him#but they literally dont. ok well yea most of zevranss thing is that he is is an assassin bc its written in a way very tied into who he is#for those who might have missed it zevran is my all time fave character out of anything and also#mischaracterization. well. bot mischaracterization as much as completely ignoring or missing parts of a character are a pet peeve of mine#leevi liveblogs

so we're all in agreement that if jimmy doesn't die first, we'll make art and fics of the bad boys finding out grian's a watcher and jimmy asking if he can remove his death curse and grian managing to do it
#bonus points if this happens while they're discussing what he is and isn't capable of.#extra bonus points if he says it wouldn't be easy because undoing the work of another watcher is easier said than done.#extra extra bonus points if the reason grian's able to break the curse is because he's one of the ones who initially cursed jimmy.#even more bonus points if upon admitting this he agrees to break the curse to make it up to him.#even MORE bonus points if he lets jimmy know that this might be risky#since he's messing with things tied to his fate and to his life itself and if it backfires he might accidentally kill him. or worse.#jimmy understands the risks and wants to do it anyways.#joel is instructed to not intervene no matter what so he stands there and tries to stay silent and calm#while grian is unblinking and chanting in incomprehensible tongues with way more eyes than anyone's supposed to have#when the curse breaks the canary wings on the sides of jimmy's head fall apart and vanish and he has normal ears now.#some time afterwards he comments that he hadn't even realized the feathers messed with his hearing until they were gone#which i suppose makes sense since he doesn't remember a time before his death curse.#...wait. what if this DID backfire.#causing grian to accidentally permakill jimmy. thereby fulfilling both their curses at once in an attempt at breaking one of them.#ok i can't tell which version of this i like more
