when i said i would have deranged rant abt c!zam yesterday i thought i was going to have derangements abt s4 zam. and that wasnt entirely false i am also having derangements about s4 zam but im also having derangements about s3 (just rewatched the finale with some friends and remembered why zam's s3 finale was the video that made me go Oh. i CARE about lifesteal now huh)

anyway i'm thinking about s3 finale era zam showing up to meet with spoke ready for a fight. his inventory full of gapples and cobwebs and potions. eighteen hearts. and he uses them! he throws regen on spoke and he puts cobwebs beneath spoke so spoke can't kill himself by jumping off the mountain and he throws spoke two hearts and gapples and begs him to use them. i'm thinking about, after spoke comes back, zam spawntrapped. refusing to give up, hitting spoke over and over again with a stone axe that does nothing as spoke kills him over and over. i'm thinking about spoke, a bit earlier, saying: doesn't this sound familiar? and he's talking about zam's own suicide-by-execution after the fall of the princezam empire, and he's not wrong, but his words also echo into their future, into s4: vitalasy in the end base, putting subz in cobwebs, throwing him hearts and gapples, begging him not to kill himself; zam with a stone sword, hitting roshambo over and over. i'm thinking about spoke, even earlier than that: lifesteal works in cycles. because it does, doesn't it? it's all the same thing. they're not the same people but also they kind of are. thinking about zam yelling i ruined it! it's all my fault! if anyone should be banned, it should be me! because he's the same person as the one who banned himself earlier in s3, the same person who almost banned himself twice in s4. because even though spoke's his enemy spoke's also his friend and he doesn't want spoke to die. he brought stuff to kill spoke but he doesn't want to ban spoke, doesn't want spoke to kill himself. he's trying to save the server from getting banned (even his enemies) and spoke is trying to ban the server (even himself). in voiceover in his video zam says "i couldn't save spoke." he couldn't save spoke. he tried to save spoke. his enemy! his enemy who spawnkills him twice in the same video! zam couldn't save him. spoke asking why zam is still trying. but zam has to save things just like spoke has to destroy things. zam can't give up because he just-- can't, it's not his nature, across seasons and servers zam Does Not Give Up. even when it kills him. maybe especially when it kills him. i keep coming back to the cobwebs and the gapples and the regen pots. he brought them to kill spoke and he's trying to use them to save spoke's life. MAN. man! in conclusion. sorry for being stuck on a thing that happened in s3. as if it's my fault

Ok I think I know now how I wanna go about organizing my blogs.

I’m gonna make dedicated fan blogs for Blue Eye Samurai and Hazbin Hotel each. I’m gonna continue doing any original posts or reblogs about either within their respective blogs.

In the case of the BES blog specifically I’ll also be blogging about Edo Japan more broadly since I’ve wound up doing a lot of research in earnest about the period for fan fiction writing. I’m also thinking I’ll throw up any BES-related journal writing exercises I do over there. It’s probably gonna be a sort of open journal documenting my writing and research process interspersed with reblogs of others’ fan art, fanfics, and fan theories.

Likewise I will set up dedicated side blogs for any other specific non-fandom topics or aesthetics. I’m particularly fond of the surprisingly poetic prose of tumblr shit posts (think “tell me the name of god you fungal piece of shit” type posts) and just the very specific type of humor and storytelling that arises from tumblr’s reblog system and the community’s character. There’s a certain je ne sais quoi to these posts I want to preserve haha.

I’m gonna change the name of this blog so it’s in line with all my other socials and I’m gonna uh TRY to clean this blog up (this is likely a Sisyphean task and I expect I might give up on this over time. But I still gotta try). I’m also gonna try to cut down on the number of mindless reblogs that wind up on this blog. If I reblog something here it should be because it’s helpful info/advice, important news/PSAs, or other people’s complete/finalized original work or fan work that I don’t have a dedicated blog for. In the case of informative posts I will do my best to only reblog it here once I’ve read through it and not just skim it tell myself I’ll read it later. In addition to all this I’m gonna uh actually try to use tags for organizational purposes. Force myself to slow down my mindless consumption and actually interact mindfully instead.

There’s still a lot of stuff I’ll want to reblog with zero thought or explanation just cause it’s funny or relatable or whatever, so all that sort of stuff will go on a dump blog. I’m really attached to the blog’s current name, it’s been with me from the start, so I’ll probably use it for my reblog dump.

Why do I feel compelled to do all this? Well, for the vast majority of my time on this site I was content with just being a faceless, largely voiceless user that just reblogs whatever is relatable in the moment and scrolling endlessly. I was on tumblr sure but I was never really in community with anybody. Now nearly a decade down the line, I feel like I’ve finally found community with others on this website thanks to Blue Eye Samurai, and the last thing I want is to drive people away bc they find my blog to be obnoxiously spam-like and disorganized. You can’t follow others from your secondary blog, only your primary blog and I actually want to have mutuals here. When it comes to social functions on this website, THIS blog is my first foot forward and generally others’ first impression of me. And in that respect, I’ve been a poor steward of my own image. If mutuals want to get to know me, this blog doesn’t really say anything useful or coherent about me. It’s literally a dump and we all deserve better than that.

reblog! reblog reblog reblog. if your post count is lower than your likes count you're doing it wrong. this is the website of having interests so reblog shit u like, we even have a tag system so you can organize things and find them again later! post limit is 250 posts daily, go nuts. edit - also, there is no algorithm here. we spread things ourselves or they don't get spread. Reblog!

change your icon from the default and have SOME kind of bio. there are bots around here. empty blogs get blocked by most people.

it is 400% ok to reblog old posts. yes even posts that are years old. we can turn off reblogs here, if someone didn't want you reblogging a post they wouldn't let you. you can reblog things multiple times in a row, even. if you want to put Cursed Pikachu Man (you'll likely get acquainted with him) on your follower's dashboards 12 times in a row nobody and nothing is stopping you.

post tags are for talking and rambling as much as they are organizing things, but keep in mind that tumblr only tracks the first 20 tags. so whether you are making an Original Post or Reblogging Something For Later, put your important tags first AND THEN ramble. the tags are also very long, 139 characters i believe. Per Tag. cough cough and creatives Really like it when you say stuff in your reblog tags cough cough

settings > dashboard > preferences. best stuff first? turn that shit off. your dashboard is now chronological and you can easily scroll to wherever you left off last. unless you follow like 500 people in which case lmao rip

6. you can send people both direct messages AND asks - DMs work like they do on any website. Asks are like sending somebody a piece of fan mail they can respond to publicly, or privately if you don't send it anonymously. Do not use the anonymous feature to be mean.

7. you do not need to censor words here. say kill. it's ok.

8. there is a blacklist feature. you can blacklist both entire tags, and words from posts. settings > account, it's under "content you see". if you don't want to see something you can get rid of it forever instead of complaining. enjoy.

9. if you make things: tag fandom, characters, and ships if applicable. add any medium or blog organizational tags after that. add spoiler tags if relevant. this all goes in the Tags bar at the bottom of the post, NOT in the text content of the post itself. ez pattern to remember.

How to Find Fanfics with Type 1 Diabetes in Fandom

A Comprehensive Guide to Navigating the AO3 Collection

Hello again, friends and folks!

I've realized some of the blog’s followers haven’t visited the collection of fanfics with t1d rep over on the Archive of Our Own (currently with 250+ fics across 100+ fandoms. seriously go check it out). It has also been brought to my attention that quite a few people are confused about either how to use the Archive or how to filter and search within a collection. I’m thinking the two are probably connected, so consider this my first attempt at a guide on how to easily do things.

Basically, imagine a little diabetic gremlin hovering over your shoulder and offering advice as you browse the collection. That gremlin is me. You’re welcome.

The primary goal of the collection (and this blog) is to provide easier access to fanworks featuring type 1 diabetes. That means:

NO incorrectly-tagged fluff fics butting in on #actuallydiabetic works

NO t2d fics (they have their own collection)

Diabetic characters that are written as diabetic and not simply tagged as such

Comprehensive tagging

Any fiction-based fandom, any trope, any rating

Every. Single. Fic must feature t1d in some way 

You just have to know how to use the tools available to you.

Other people have created several helpful guides on how to use ao3 in a more generalized way, so I’m going to provide links for those and then we’ll get into the nitty gritty of AO3 collections and my personal organizational system.

Now, disclaimer time! I do not see how many hits the collection gets. This is a hobby project I do on my own time because it’s something I wanted to have available for myself, and I hope other people also find use for it. The collection is something used to promote fics that have the content we want, not the collection itself.

Click on that link. You should see this:

See that? Ok, good. This is the collection’s dashboard. This is where you can find all the different parts to it. If you get lost, click the highlighted link on the left that says ‘dashboard.’ It will take you back to this page.

*Everything is basically the same on mobile, except the menu on the left should be at the top of the page.

Dashboard

The dashboard is set to show you 5 random works and 5 random bookmarks every time you refresh the page. Sometimes I like to refresh for fun, just to see what it gives me this time. Also a good place to start if you’re not sure how to filter.

Note: if you do not have an ao3 account, you will not be able to see fics that are available to registered users only. If you forget to log in and wonder why there are suddenly less fics, this is why. It’s a very slight discrepancy, something like 5 fics, so those without an account don’t have to worry.

The menu on the left side of the page is fairly straightforward.

Profile, FAQ, & Subcollections

“Profile” contains the intro, which is also visible on the top of the dashboard there explaining what the collection is, and also has the FAQ page, which coincidentally is the next item on the menu.

The FAQ is a little messy, but it’s a good place to start. Get a feel for it. See the tags I use. Find out why I started this project (take a good guess. I’ll wait). I also have a brief list of books with canonically diabetic characters, forever incomplete because I forget it exists.

Don’t worry about “Subcollections.” I don’t have any yet. Hence the (0).

Now, we get to the good stuff!

Fandoms

“Fandoms” takes you to a list of every fandom tagged by fics located in the Works section. This does NOT count fics located in the Bookmarks section.

Be forewarned parent tags are at play here. Meaning, this page shows that only 13 fics are tagged with the MCU fandom, but if you click the link provided, way more fics show. Why does this happen? Because a fic tagged specifically with The Avengers (Marvel Movies) is still contained within the larger MCU parent tag and thus will be included when you select the parent tag.

It makes the numbers look screwy. Don’t stress about it.

Basically, if you want Iron Man fics and ONLY Iron Man fics, click that link and you’ll get everything tagged with Iron Man. If you like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but don’t particularly care if you get Cap or Thor? Select the MCU tag and you can see everything within it. Etc.

Works

“Works” is set up just like any other Works page on AO3. 20 per page, number of fics on the top, filters on the right, fics in the middle.

The filters on the right also work just as they do elsewhere on AO3. You can choose what to include, what to exclude. Ratings, Warnings, Categories. Fandoms, Characters, Relationships, and Additional Tags will show you the top 10 under each, and you filter as desired. Crossovers, Completion Status, Wordcount, and Date Updated options are available at the bottom.

NOTE: Fics in the “Works” page are tagged ONLY by the author. The tagging system described in the FAQ and later here applies ONLY to bookmarks.

If you’re new to AO3 in general, this is where you can play around. Filter to include F/F fics. Exclude Supernatural. Include fics with Established Relationships. Exclude Major Character Death. One filter at a time or all at once! Figure out how it works and then use it how you want.

Bookmarked Items

I do NOT keep duplicate fics. If a fic is located in the works, it will NOT be found in the bookmarks, and vice versa. Any duplicates are accidental and I try hard to remove them immediately.

For readers, there’s not really much difference b/w Works and Bookmarks here, except for the fact I can add my own tags and descriptors to bookmarks and I can’t do that for works. For writer’s, it’s a permission thing. I won’t get into it on this post.

The first thing to notice is the little dropdown I’ve selected on the right of the above picture, within the filters. Date Bookmarked is selected, and underneath is the option Date Updated. Either is fine. The first is when I saved it to the collection, the latter is when the fic was published/updated by the author.

The option to filter by the Author’s tags are still present here, just like the “Works” page. Include, exclude, warnings, fandoms, etc.

There’s also this cool little drop-down beaneath Additional Tags called Bookmarker’s Tags. See it over there on the right?

(If you ever hear me rambling about my precious tagging system, this is what I’m talking about. FYI: you can add tags and notes to your AO3 bookmarks!!!)

The filters on the right show the top 10 tags, just like they do for the Fandom and Character areas. Exclude some, and the next top 10 will appear. Just from the ones in this picture, you probably get the idea I like to tag a lot of things :P. Let’s get wild here and break it all down so you know the options. (Also a good time to refer to the FAQ page.)

Bookmarker’s Tags:

Diabetic Character means a POV character has diabetes. Am considering changing it to Diabetic POV Character, but that’ll take a bit so I’ll let you know.

POV Character Does NOT Have Diabetes. Self-explanatory. Frequently goes with: Secondary Character is Diabetic, which means the POV character is...not diabetic.

Canon Diabetic Character means the character has t1d in the original material. Ex: Stacey McGill from the Baby-Sitters Club and Kyle Broflovski from South Park. Does NOT mean they are the POV character.

Type 1 Diabetes means t1d is specified in EITHER the fic itself OR the author’s notes while Unspecified Diabetes Mellitus is, you guessed it, not specified, but can be interpreted as t1d. If you don’t want to risk it, exclude the Unspecified tag and include Type 1 Diabetes.

NOTE: there is, so far, 1 fic each for Monogenic Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes, and Unnamed LADA. These are still considered T1D by modern medical professionals, but are technically sub-types and can have different experiences. (I’m hoping to get a new LADA tag when someone actually names it in a story, but we’ll see. LMK if you see it.)

Diabetic ___ is used to specify which character is diabetic. Diabetic Original Character or Diabetic Peter Parker. etc. Fill-in at your own risk with these because there’s usually not enough fics per character to get into the top 10 tags.

Series just means it is a series that is bookmarked, and not an individual fic.

External Source means the fic is located off AO3, usually FFN but sometimes Quotev or possibly Wattpad. I can’t remember. Your choice to include or exclude, but don’t be surprised if you click through a link and it takes you elsewhere. NOTE: AO3 will warn you underneath the fic’s title if it’s located externally, but you can’t filter with that warning. You can filter with my tags. 

The Wordcount tags are self-explanatory.

Be forewarned that the Diabetes Alert Dog tag has some, uh, creative interpretations when super-powered noses are involved.

So now that we know what is usually tagged, let’s try filtering with them! Let’s say we want a Diabetic Character with Type 1 Diabetes who uses an Insulin Pump. We’ll include those 3 tags on the filter on the right, and exclude External Source, because we want to stay on AO3 right now.

You can’t see it on the page, but that brought us right down to 9 fics (I’m logged out.) Much easier to read through in one sitting than 180 fics!

Selecting Canon Diabetic Character, for me today, brought me one Stacey McGill fic and one Kyle Broflovski fic. If I don’t like either of those characters, easy peasy, I’ll remove CDC from the include and put it under exclude.

Or what if I don’t care if the diabetes if specified so long as it’s there, or if I don’t care if the fic is on AO3 or elsewhere, but I really, really want a fic where the character has both an insulin pump and a CGM?

Clear your other filters, make sure Insulin Pump and Continuous Glucose Monitor are both included, and ta-da.

Or maybe I’ve already scoured the Insulin Pump tag, and I want to see what else there is now, but I don’t want the fics I’ve already seen to get in my way. What then?

Exclude Insulin Pump from your search. Abracadabra.

Another thing you might notice while browsing is an extra little box at the bottom of each bookmark:

See where it says “Bookmarked by ___” ?

Everything below that is added by the person who made the bookmark. Everything ABOVE it was entered by the author. Don’t be confused.

This will allow you to see, although not filter, every tag on the work. For this particular bookmark, we can see I used: Diabetic Character, Diabetic Obi-Wan Kenobi, Insulin Pump, and Unspecified Diabetes Mellitus. I didn’t put the wordcount in for some reason. Possibly because the fic is a WIP and being actively updated. We won’t worry about that.

We can decipher from the tags here that Obi-Wan Kenobi is a POV character with diabetes. Although the type has not yet been specified in the fic, we can also see that he has an insulin pump and a CGM.

(I also know this author has written several fics featuring diabetes, and always writes about type 1. That’s something you'll get a feel for as you read more fics.)

The bookmarker can also enter a comment here, usually drawing attention to a specific thing (or marking which chapter I last stopped reading at, which you don’t have to worry about :P). For this fic, I chose to put a brief excerpt from the fic itself. I do that because my memory is unpredictable. You can ignore these.

Randoms Items & People

Moving back to that little menu on the left of the Dashboard, “Random Items” doesn’t really do anything since the Dashboard is already set to randomize Works and Bookmarks. Sorry. :)

The “People” section shows collection members. I’ll make another post about members eventually, but basically, members can add their own works and their own bookmarks without moderator approval. Anybody else needs to submit the fic/bookmark and wait for me to check. (Which you can totally do.)

Tbh the “People” tab really doesn’t hold that much for readers, with the chance possibility of introducing you to other people who are interested in the topic. It’s really just another permissions thing.

And, finally, we come to the last tab on the menu...

TAGS

The “Tags” button is pretty cool, although I admit it’s not one I personally use often.

The larger the font, the more often the tag is used in the collection’s works. Note this applies to WORKS only, and not bookmarks. Scrolling through it gives you a quick summary of what’s more popular to write about. It shows every tag used in a collected work, though, so it’s a fairly long section.

Selecting a tag will take you to the works in the collection which used that tag. So you can use it as another way to filter, if you want.

Ok, not to be like all in your tags, but I haven’t met many people that like both mdzs and free! I’ve seen you mention it a few times now and would love to hear your thoughts on it, if you’re fine with sharing. Wangxian and the juniors, best characters in the story.

Ahh feel free to look in the tags!! I forget sometimes that people see me clowning in there and I’m not just yelling into the void, but it’s essentially where I’m leaning over and whispering side comments into everyone’s ears 😌 (people who use tags in an actually systematic organizational way: you have my respect)

Recently started checking out the different MXTX stories after hearing about Hualian and Wangxian for so long without any context 😅 finally gave in by watching Heaven’s Official Blessing first, then moving on to the MDZS donghua. Finished that pretty recently, have read a few different chapter translations, and started The Untamed (which we’ll see if/when I make progress with that; I’ve been bad about starting new shows and keeping up with other ones to actually finish them once I’ve started OOPS). I get why everyone got attached to Wangxian now, like the brainrot is realll

To nobody’s surprise, I adore LWJ. WWX is a powerhouse and I love him for different reasons, but of course the character carved out of devout obligation to the point of feeling so intensely and struggling for years on how to ever process or show those emotions (if they feel they can show them at all) steals my attention. The fr! brainrot always has me trying to relate anything and everything I consume back to the characters and qualities I enjoy from fr! and it’s interesting to compare the way Wangxian’s dynamic/journey draws me in to some of the dynamics I enjoy talking about here. The stories are vastly different in the stakes involved, but the potential to explore devastating longing mixed with unique grief and emotional breakthroughs/catharsis is something I’m, like, totally into (because why be ~normal~ and enjoy media ~casually~ when I can be like ~this~).

I don’t talk about sourin as much as makoharu, but the feelings I have about Wangxian are comparable to those I have with sourin and love to see explored in sr AUs and meta posts. Hear me out: two characters who have immense prowess in their own rights and have their own barriers with displaying/confronting emotions, but it presents vastly differently to people on the outside looking in. It’s a sun and moon dynamic in the classic redblue “stoic vs spitfire” way where outsiders overlook how much passion/devotion actually resides in the moon character and how much emotional baggage the spitfire is hiding in their facade of brazen vulnerability. There’s the character who doesn’t verbally express emotions (because they never figured out how, because it hurts, because it could destroy, because because because) and covertly expresses their devotion through repression and covert actions. Then, there’s the object of their affection, who seems like an open book and lives life vibrantly, who cares about the other character but takes forever to actually process just how deep that emotion resides in them until there’s that one moment of breakthrough. LWJ realizing his feelings for WWX and enduring behind the scenes for years is very reminiscent of Sousuke’s feelings in those years where Rin was ghosting everyone, plus the emotions that led up to the “because I knew you would cry” scene. Rin is a character we know is emotional and is regarded for being emotional by others, but tried to put up a stubborn front of being numb and fine with being hated in the pursuit of his dream for a time. His breakthrough of learning to rely on a team again, embrace his friends, and let himself be vulnerable feels similar to WWX’s breakthrough in the confession scene — that immediate confrontation with how deep LWJ’s care ran, plus getting hit by a bus with his own longing that he hadn’t fully processed before that point, followed with the immediate urge to do something about it?? Very Rin. Not to bring a whole other show into the mix, but this specific type of dynamic is also what draws me into bonrin/bonfire in the AoEx universe. The flavorrrr of it all!!

Also I’m with you on loving them with the juniors; some of my favorite moments are watching WWX guide and teach them in his own way, resigned to himself of having less pride in his second life (still cocky, but he’s internalized how much he was hated and what led to his downfall the first time), and just knowing LWJ is inwardly preening because “look at you, look at how wrong the world was; they thought you only knew how to bring about ruin, but I keep getting to bear witness to how you care and create.” Lighthearted and humorous and sappy sappy sappy 🥰🥰🥰

did you hear they fired brian mitsoda? WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?!?!?

Ok, let’s get serious a moment, here’s some links. Mitsoda and Cluney were fired from Paradox/HSL last month. 

VTMB2 presented it as organizational changes and “it was a joint decision between HSL and Paradox”.

Here’s the catch:

Mitsoda is the dude who made VTMB1. 

Cluney is the dude who pitched the game and grabbed Mitsoda along. 

Paradox and Hardsuit Labs SOLD us VTMB2 as “by the authors of VTMB1″, capitalizing a lot on Mitsoda’s name. As well as Rik Schaffer (the composer of VTMB1, magnificent music, but my guess is that Schaffer wasn’t an employee but a contractor/Freelancer whose job is now basically dine, and he’s not involved in the game making itself).

To get the game out of the door, they’re ringing Alexandre Mandryka, and you can see his CV right here. Alexandre isn’t replacing Brian Mitsoda in and out of itself though, after all the game was on track to be done March 2020 so the story itself should be done already. 

"None of Brian's work is being removed, it was an honour to work with him, Alexandre is being brought in to get the game out the door on time and not as a replacement"  is basically what Outstar said in some discord servers.

So they’re firing him after having used his name, fame and brand recognition, and still intend to profit off his work and say his content is staying. They’re firing two people in the middle of a pandemic, the two people who carried the project, and now they’re not “useful anymore”, they get tossed away.

Way to go, Paradox/HSL. Congrats on becoming full Pentex.

Brian Mitsoda may have been slowing the project to make it the best it could be, out of masterpiece work ethics. Maybe. But Mitsoda is also the dude who, as an indie dev, pushed a AA game out of the door, in time and on budget (seriously go buy Dead State, it’s a great game). Mitsoda as a creative knows what to cut and what to focus on. VTMB1 has flaws, but the story was basically done. Activision pushed it out of the door way too early, and coders, programmers and writers couldn’t finish what was planned (which is why the last third of the game is kinda bad). Paradox is making the same mistake. This is why I and most others VTMB fans were fine with the delays.

A delayed game can be eventually good. A rushed game is bad forever.

Paradox and HSL have seriously dented player trust, because if the reason displayed elsewhere for the firing was “creative differences”, and the company sided against the creatives for “creative differences”, then this should be shields up moment. This is unacceptable.

Many of us are voting with our wallets (cancelling preorders, speaking up against the shit image it gives, there’s a change/org petition); remember, paradox and hardsuit went full "with the original team!!!" to sell it to us, and breached our trust. It’s up to us as a community to show them that they can’t buy the IP and basically become the antagonists the IP denounces.

What we’ve seen so far has been: (late) ps3 era quality animations (for a game advertised for next gen PS5 stuff, that’s not good), no accessibility, unflattering fan service / appeal to nostalgia, and a serial killer as center piece to be glorified and drooled over. I really want to believe it.

And despite all of this, I do believe the final product will be a fine game. But this is a matter of ethics, a matter of values.

This is the World of Darkness, an IP which is centered around denouncing such shit behaviors, punching up and taking matters into the players' hands, fighting the corruption and facelessness of hard data oriented productivity-bottom-line oriented assholes against artists and creators. 

The WoD is about fighting Pentex, oppressive societies, harmful homogeneity, and celebrating individual creativity, making things work on a small scale around yourself and making the world a little brighter for you and those you care about. The WoD IS about activism. 

If we, vtmb players, let this slide and still buy it, and still accept it, we’re letting them win.

We’re talking about a political IP about the evils of certain corps running the world and asphyxiating it with greed and horror. They’re not a how-to manual, they’re not to be glorified and followed as example.

Please write to Paradox. Write to HSL. Tweet about it. Tag them. Comment their videos. Refund your preorders.  Tell Outstar to be the critical thinking fan she always was and show where her values are, as a newly arrived Paradox employee. Tell Jason Carl to use his influence. Grab Achilli and tell him he’s allowing ghouls to run the thing, instead of the passion franchise it is. Ghouls fully ruining and exploiting the fuck out of creatives for the IP which explicitly denounces this kind of behavior.

Yes, products need to be shipped out at some point, but quality and soul are important. Crucial.

Currently, Paradox has licensed a whole lot of different companies to do WoD work, doing it the Warhammer way and see what sticks, and let failures disappear into oblivion. Make sure you support the products worth supporting, and ghouls need to die off.

Highly recommend supporting the VTES folks, who hire great artists, who support FLGS, who use WORLD of Darkness material (instead of yet-again-another-US-centered thing). Renegade is doing a reskin card game, it’s going to have good mechanics, but otherwise? It’s a consumer product.

anyway are they doing the uprising arc next?? bc that scene with everyone about to fight zeke makes me a lil suspicious.... but they also talked about overthrowing the government so maybe they won't skip it?? they better not. we learn a lot of shit during the uprising arc. anyWAy I'm low key panicking bc the uprising and rts arcs are like 20 chapters each and.... that's a tad bit too long for 12 episodes?? clash of the titans was 16 chapters and that fit pretty nicely into 12 episodes, so maybe 13 episodes? ok yeah here's for hoping season 3 will be 26 episodes and 13 for uprising and 13 for rts.

The Drarry Squad. When I first began poking around tumblr, I was very perplexed about the whole Drarry Squad label/tag/nomenclature. Was it a group? Was it a clique? Was it some sort of hegemonic Drarry enforcement cabal?

Then a few months ago I was talking with someone active in HP fandom who mentioned that “Drarry Squad” can be very off-putting and seems exclusionary. By that point I had become so accustomed to seeing the Drarry Squad tag that I had forgotten how I, too, had once found the term intimidating.

Now for some personal stuff: I do not join things. Like ever. Like I am a pathological non-joiner. When I “joined” the 18+ Drarry Discord I had no idea what I was doing, and at the time it had fewer than 20 participants. I would be way too intimidated to join it now (and my fandom experience would be the poorer for it). Any whiff of cliquishness makes me deeply uncomfortable.

Why is this relevant? Cue segue into What the Drarry Squad Means to Me.

I occasionally see posts where people (usually anon) ask some friendly face of fandom “What is the Drarry Squad and how does one join?” Inevitably the friendly face says something along the lines of “You like Drarry? You’ve joined!” And I think this kind of welcome and openness is characteristic of most so-called “members” of the Drarry Squad.

But to me, the “Drarry Squad” is first and foremost an organizational tag that helps people find the content they like on the notoriously difficult-to-navigate tumblr interface. I’m sorry to be so mundane.

Secondly, though, I believe that “Drarry Squad” is like a badge of honor that anyone can claim -- if they want to -- if they love the characters and the ship. This does not mean that everyone who is “in” the Drarry Squad shares a singular idea of what fanon Drarry/HD could or should be. And I think that’s ok, for I see fandom as a space to explore, create, and (when we’re very lucky), dazzle the collective imagination. 

I spent time over the end-of-the-year holidays going through the Harry/Draco tag on AO3, looking for new writers (either to me or to the ship) to promote, and I was astonished at how many names were unfamiliar to me. There is no question that I have been slipping in my reading over the past few months, but I also wonder about the writers who feel like they labor in isolation. I truly hope that all Drarry creators have found a community that supports their work if that is something they desire. 

And just to be perfectly clear, as far as I know, there is no such thing as “membership” in the Drarry Squad. There is no secret initiation ritual, no dues, no requirements beyond the aforementioned love of the ship. I could be wrong; like I said, I don’t “join” things, so I may have no idea what I’m talking about. But from where I sit, the Drarry fandom, whether squadded or not, comprises some of the most talented, intelligent, and kind individuals I have had the pleasure of knowing.

Edited to add: For the purpose of transparency, I’ll admit that I rarely tag my posts “Drarry squad.” There’s no nefarious motivation behind that decision, and I don’t think it has affected my “fandom experience,” as it were. I just never started the habit of doing so.
