For all the masks he wore, the one that required Angus to keep his cool in the face of Reuben's shuffling feet slipped for a second once he felt tiny pebbles make contact with his dress pants. He took 12 whole hours for himself before they could drive away from D.C. on Saturday morning so he could get this suit drycleaned at the last minute. He shot the other man a deeply unimpressed look, held the cigar between his teeth to wipe his hands, and stood from where he sat. Angus didn't care to look up at someone as he spoke to them. It'd been a long while since he had to do that.

From Reuben, he expected a list of excuses right out the gate: the hot sun, a suffocating tie, the wall of faces staring up at him, a residual headache—on and on and on. Angus made his initial findings on Reuben's little speech clear, not an hour after it happened. Quick and quiet, he gave a succinct review. Uncouth. Discourteous. Embarrassing, in so many words. The attention the funeral brought on already left a prickling sensation dancing uncomfortably across the back of Angus' neck. Too many eyes, too many questions, too many faces he didn't quite recognize. He didn't need antics. But even after their talk in the kitchen the previous night, he shouldn't have let his guard down about Reuben.

Really, he should've demanded the right to proofread his damn eulogy.

But Reuben didn't say anything about the sun, his tie, anyone's face, or any kind of ache. He said something else entirely: I'm sorry I ruin things. Sighing heavily, Angus glanced down as he ashed his cigar, then lifted it again to his lips. Over many years, he worked hard on stifling his initial reactions: anger, harsh words, and flying fists. A plethora of what the fuck's nearly always spedran circles in his thoughts, and he was almost always on edge. But nothing had ever been as effective as hitting 30 and discovering that the most efficient way to diffuse anger was to remember just how exhausted you were. And Angus suddenly felt unimaginably tired.

"Why don't you tell me—in no uncertain terms—what was going through your mind?" he asked calmly, though it was far more akin to a command than a request. He felt responsible for Reuben, which inevitably meant picking invasively at his stunted psyche. "No jokes, no distractions. Just the truth."

His shoes were muddy. In a way that suggested he’d been meandering through the tall grass for too long. Scaring off garden snakes and rabbits along the tree line. This was the first time he’s been alone with the thought of Richard being gone for a long while. It was like he could feel the waves of emotion rise and fall in his chest— maybe he should get back into yoga, originally it was a ruse to stand behind Erin from accounting while she downward dogged in yoga pants but, the measured breaths were finally starting to pay off.

He’d been circling the grounds like an ant in ant mill since he peaced out of the ceremony earlier in the morning. Occasionally stopping at the garage or sneaking inside to see whether or not the crowd was thinning out. He had already received some of his verbal lashings but was sure more were to come and he needed time to lick his wounds. He wanted to shout that he was just a kid and had no practice for these sort of things but, that excuse didn’t even work when he was thirteen.

Death was the chance at forgiveness and new beginnings. Maybe this was the last everyone had seen of the ‘woe is me’ Reuben. Unlikely. He’d gather them all together tomorrow and formally apologize, and quit drinking, and run more than the half block to catch the bus without getting winded. He’d be a better person, the one everyone expected him to be. Or maybe he’d drown himself in the cloudy water of the fountain ’til Davis found him and his little muddy shoes the next morning.

He picks up his pace a little, like the fountain could be his repentance. The plan is foiled by some tall jerk who must’ve had the same idea and looked a little like Angus. Not that Reuben could really see, squinting through his blistering hangover and maybe the whiskey neat he’d snuck in when everyone was still out on the lawn. He slows once it’s obvious that it’s Angus and almost considers turning around. What happened to all the courage spurred by the reminiscence of a certain pair of yoga pants?

His face has splotches of red as his chest raggedly rises and falls. Hands in his pockets, he kicks some tiny pebbles like a kid who’s been asked to say sorry by a teacher but can’t get it out just yet. A frustrated little pout adorns his features as Angus refuses to look at him. Instead he’s directing Reuben’s attention to tiny, plump, stone babies, and waxing poetic with a fancy cigar. Reuben knew the gist of the fountain, but often wondered what kind of royal fuck up he’d have to commit that warranted a fountain to make up for it. Or maybe that was what real love did. It makes you commission three tiered fountains and dedicate poetry from lovesick old dead guys.

He kicks again, scuffing his shoes in the process and sending a dozen or so tiny rocks dancing across Angus’ shins. He wants to come up with a witty retort. Something smug to soften the forthcoming apology. “No puking yet, so..” Is all he can manage as he throws two thumbs up and a weary smile. He looks up to the cherubs, the one with the chipped nose seemingly motioning for him to continue. “I’m sorry I ruin things.” He mumbles, his eyes jutting down to meet Angus’ gaze for a second before returning to the statue for confirmation he did the right thing.

Okay this idea regarding the Three Months Au has been floating around in my head for a solid two days now and I NEED to spill it out so. uh. here's my alternative ending for your au (so I guess i made an AU for your AU????) gonna keep it anonymous so I don't out myself as completely cringe LMAO

--okay, so. there's this episode of Doctor Who, right? it's called "A Christmas Carol", and a lot of weird shit happens, but one of the big plot points is this woman called Abigail. Abigail has a terminal illness, and was basically put into some kind of cryogenic chamber, which keeps her alive indefinitely-- but only as a frozen body. She's basically asleep while she's inside. She can leave whenever someone lets her out-- something the boy who loves her does, every single Christmas, so he can spend a day with her once a year--but the countdown to her death only stops ticking when she's asleep and immobile inside the cryo chamber. Eventually, her countdown gets down to one day left to live. And the boy leaves her in there for years. Until he's old and close to death himself, he never lets her out for fear of having to watch her live out her final day.

OK. CONTEXT PROVIDED. STAY WITH ME BRO.

--same situation, but with 3 months Mikey. Draxum and Donnie build something that does manage to "halt" the effects of Mikey's mystics on his body-- but it's something like the cryo chamber, where it only works when he's completely frozen and asleep inside. Mikey's 3-month-long prognosis is still intact (probably a bit shortened by the time the machine is built), but they manage to extend it by keeping him in that stasis chamber until Draxum and Donnie can find a true cure. For special occasions, like birthdays or holidays or really big fights, maybe they'll let him out-- but the countdown is still always in the background.

and, uh. maybe they don't find a cure.

days and months and years of trying, and they never find an actual cure. the only thing they have is whatever original invention Donnie and Draxum made to put Mikey into stasis-- and that countdown gets shorter every time they let him out. soon, it gets down to some miniscule time frame-- two weeks left, maybe. then a week. then five days. then three.

Donnie stops taking Mikey out of stasis.

he tells himself that he can still find a cure, or some way to reverse the effects. Mikey no longer leaves the stasis chamber to celebrate birthdays or Christmas. raph and leo and donnie and april all become adults. splinter or draxum die of old age. april probably gets married. huge universe-ending battles are fought and won. the world keeps turning and shit.

--and mikey sees none of it. asleep in the back of donnie's lab, while his brother spends decades trying to cure him; too scared of watching mikey live out his last day to take him out of stasis.

even as his family lives, and ages, and probably eventually dies-- mikey stays frozen in time. dying, but never dead. forever fifteen years old.

wouldn't that be kinda fucked up? :D

“So, you’re CT-3937 now?”

The voice is perfectly neutral, but Clarry still has to supress a flinch as she nervously turns to face the vode in blue and gold armour.

“That would be me.”

She has never met the troopers before, but she knows exactly who they are. CT-3936 and CT-3939. Keys and Flick. CT-3937’s batchmates. This is just another one of countless awkward reunions as GAR troopers finally come to check on their Guard batchmates, only to find that the numbers they are looking for no longer belong to the person they left behind.

“How does this work? Do we call you Zip too, or…?”

“No! No.” She shudders. “We reuse the numbers, but the names remain unless absolutely required.”

“Ok. That… makes this easier.” She watches as some of the tension drains out of them, the vod with gold accents stepping forward from their place at their partner’s shoulder.

“In that case, what is your name? We’re Flick and Keys, both he/him, but I guess you already knew that?”

“I’m Clarry, she/they. Originally Claret, for the red,” she gestures at her armour, “but then there was an incident a couple of weeks after I arrived and everyone started calling me Clarion instead.”

“What sort of an incident? If you don’t mind saying.” She blushes.

“It’s kinda embarrassing, but, well. I was in the freshers after my shift, indulging in my water ration before catching the end of latemeal, and the pipe breaks. So I’m standing there in just my skin, being blasted by absolutely freezing water, and swearing up a storm, loud enough-”

“-to be heard in the messhall. I remember Zip telling us about that.”

“Oh! So you’re ‘colder than a Hutt’s hind on Hoth’. The story went around just before the 501st had a pass through Mygeeto, and the phrasing caught on.”

“Really? I can’t believe… Anyway, just as I was winding up, Commander Thorn stuck his head in, complimented me on my diction and use of acoustics, and offered me a place on one of his riot squads. I couldn’t decide whether to be more flattered or mortified! The jokes lasted for weeks, but I decided to keep the nickname even if I mostly end up shortening it.”

Laughter rolls through the little group, and Clarry feels some of her own tension leaving. It is nice to know that she is not entirely new to them, that even gone, Zip is helping to smooth their first meeting.

She watches as the other two look at each other, a twinge of jealousy striking as an entire conversation is held in aborted gestures and flickers of expression. After a brief back and forth, the vod in blue, Keys, turns back to face her. 

“Look. …oh Force this is awkward. But here goes. We knowyou’re not Zip, and you won’t ever be Zip – no-one can truly replace him. But according to all the records you are CT-3937. So that means that technically we’re batchmates. If… if you want to be?”

Clarry thinks about her own batchmates, lost even before CT-9845 ‘died’. She thinks about her inherited comm, with its group chat that she never quite had the heart to block; the way that watching Flick and Keys banter was a balm after a long shift, the way they still addressed the occasional comment to Zip even as she refused to message them in his stead. She thinks about how this is supposed to be a time of new beginnings and celebrating their survival.

“I’d like to try.”

          “how  i’m  …  ?  go  on  then,  use  your  words.”  she  challenges  him  coolly,  eyebrows  raised  as  she  takes  another  sip  of  water  and  sighs  in  relief;  god,  that’s  better  than  whatever  god  awful  smoothie  her  doctor  advised  her  towards.  zoya  rolls  her  eyes,  and  the  glass  falls  back  to  the  table  with  a  none  too  quiet  clink.  “did  i  ask  for  your  happiness  ?  did  i  ask  for  your  help  ?”  she  asks,  irate.  “i’m  telling  you  because  you  ought  to  know  —  again,  being  half  of  it.  i’m  only  asking  what  you  want  to  do,  as  in  if  you  want  to  be  a  part  of  …  whatever  …  or  not.”  zoya  huffs,  suddenly  paying  as  much  attention  to  the  glass  in  front  of  her  as  he  had  been  to  his  prior.  “you’re  free  to  say  no,  obviously.  i  can  take  care  of  things  myself.”

he doesn't think that any sort of beverage right now would help and he certainly doesn't find himself himself wanting to digest anything anytime soon. not until he's finished fully digesting the news anyway. ❝ i'm not playing dumb, i just figured with how you are... ❞ his shoulders rise and fall in a shrug, alluding to a more promiscuous lifestyle than what she implied for herself. one filled with many people in many different beds such that she would have a harder time discerning whose it was. his eyes fall to the glass and remains locked to a single water bead trickling down the side, tearing apart the seamless veil of condensation. ❝ what — what do i want to do now? ❞ he practically hisses, tearing his sights away to look up at her, though immediately taken aback by how unguarded she looked. ❝ right now, i wished this was a bad dream that i'm supposed to wake up from in a few minutes to head to my job. i don't have money, zoya. i don't have anything. what did you think telling me was gonna do for you? that i'd be happy and jump at the chance to help? ❞

In my hc, there r vehicles that r naturally born from their parents (yes they can have sex shut up) and those who r built for certain reasons or for mass production (just like cold construction in Transformers)

S-70's variants (Firehawk, Seahawk, Pavehawk, Jayhawk, etc) are part of the latter. They were built based on Blackhawks' DNAs, and built into bodies/forms that fits their manufacturing reasons(?)

Once built, the manufacturer would expect them to adjust into maturity ASAP, since unlike normal vehicles who go through the childhood phase etc, they were built for specific reasons and are expected to start working in less than a year

They'd be put through intense training etc in special facilities based on their models

Valkyrie is one of the Firehawks, built with additional equipments for firefighting+SAR (night vision equipments, heat sensors for SAR reasons, built-in water tank+extended landing gear, rescue hoist, cargo hook, water pump to get water from lakes, infrared, weather radar, etc) (these r actually included in Firehawks irl so I'm not making these up other than the heat sensors)

She spends a year of training in the facility along with other Firehawks, several Jayhawks that were going to be released to Coast Guard, and a Blackhawk that were undergoing a training to be a Navy SAR.

They had developed sibling-like relationship with each other, but they weren't aware of the term until the Blackhawk explained abt it.

These helos r completely and painfully innocent/clueless bc their life had been revolving around firefighting lol. The trainers r so strict. No fiction books/movies/etc, no communicating with the outside world, no going outta the training facility, etc

They were basically raised to be the firefighting aircrafts to be sent out in rougher situations when other aircrafts can't fly, and they've been told to not get attached to anyone, mentally nor physically, bcs getting KIA (killed in action) is common in firefighting.

The Firehawks still developed siblings bonds tho (⁠◡⁠ ⁠ω⁠ ⁠◡⁠)✨ they can only act laid-back around each other dbjsjdkdj

This causes Valkyrie to feel foreign/weird when it comes to receiving affection, but she started pampering others with love etc after the Blackhawk showed her some of his novels in secret 😋

After getting certified, Valkyrie and the others got stationed to CalFire, assisting the intense fire season around the area.

The higher-ups kinda fucked up and made several Firehawks keep on working on a huge wildfire in nighttime with close to zero visibility

Their heat sensors, night vision equipments, and GPS r basically useless in that situation so they can't locate each others' position

Valkyrie and another Firehawk accidentally crashed onto each other

Yea basically it traumatized her

The crash caused her to get anxious to fly in the dark without her night vision equipments, and she'd turn on her heat sensors 24/7, day and night, out of anxiety

She can't stand crowded places/airspaces bcs of this since the numerous heat signs would overwhelm her system, causing sensory overload

After the fire that burnt the whole Piston Peak National Park happened, the higher-ups sent her to assist the PPAA, deeming her a good choice since she'll have less sensory overloads there

Imma shorten it up and she basically developed a semi-romantic relationship with Blade, no intense stuff tho

It's the type of relationship u go through bc u feel comfy around each other? Just cuddling, sharing ur stories and past, doing stuff together, supporting each other. No sexual stuff and they barely flirt with each other bc both of them aren't used to it???

Valkyrie would do night patrols with her equipments on until 3-ish am, sleep until 5 or 6 am, and steal some naps whenever there's no fire nor work to be done (with Blade's permission)

She'd do stunts while doing water drops (sideslips, loops, etc) for fun as long as Blade didn't notice her (he actually did, but she did her job and there was no casualties so he keeps his mouth shut)

She listens to Japanese rock songs until she discovered romantic songs, and she'd sing them for Blade bcs she's bad with her own words when it comes to showing him how much she loves him 😭 (she only sings in front of Blade tho, she's too shy to do it in front of the others)

She has been having a hard time trying to not get attached to Blade bc she doesn't want either of them to get hurt if one of them dies

She'd secretly go into Blade's hangar after her night patrols for a short cuddle and quick nuzzles

Blade would do the same whenever she takes naps

Ok these are small because I TRIED to just put everything in the Author’s notes because it wasn’t supposed to be a “real” project 😭 but I’ve got a few things to say about UILE.

Chapter 1:

⦁ Catra was planning to end up with somebody at the end of the night and Adora was lowkey her top choice, so she texted her when she decided she was done with the party she was at and hadn’t found anything else she wanted to do.

⦁ Catra just straight up misheard Adora in chapter 1 and because she never asks she literally never finds out she didn’t say kitten

Chapter 2:

⦁ I swear Catra really isn’t an alcoholic, she just doesn’t mind alcohol, is around it constantly, and has people buying her drinks in addition to having plenty money on hand, so she found she was doing it a lot and realized she needed to be more intentional about it when discussing it with her therapist.

⦁ Not that it literally ever comes up or matters, but Faith’s sister played drums on the Grammy-winning album.

Chapter 3:

⦁ Catra was kinda wrong about how Adora’s management would feel about their connection, so it really wasn't an issue for them to come out, especially because Adora was transitioning her image to include more… well more Catra vibes, if we’re honest, which she called maturity in almost the opposite way Catra’s music was becoming more mature. Adora was getting freer and more horny, while Catra was getting happier and more responsible, but overall Adora’s image didn’t change nearly as much as Catra’s did, and even Catra’s was a gradual shift.

⦁ So it was supposed to be a one shot. Then I had the idea for chapter two and was like fuck ittt. Then I had the idea for chapters 3 and 4 and I was like cool good ending 👍 So that’s lowkey where I consider the end of the fic, but my brain wouldn’t shut up, which is how chapter 5 happened even though I consider 4 a solid ending. And Chapter 6 oh my god I swear. I need to stop thinking about this fic at 1AM.

Chapter 4:

⦁ Adora’s parents are dead, Mara took her in as a kid but she’s just a few years older and it was hard on everybody involved. Also, her full name is Grayskull, management just thought that was too “hardcore” for her genre so they shortened it, and even though her last name does mean something to her unlike Catra, Adora ended up liking that distance between what the public owned of her and her private life.

⦁ Catra’s fans are used to and fond of her antics. She calls it living life to the fullest in interviews and she’s not getting into a lot of controversies or breaking the law (at least not laws that matter) so it really isn’t going to affect her appeal either way if she shifts away from it, but it’ll make some people feel old when she eventually gets asked about cutting back the partying an interview. Other people will say it’s about time.

⦁ When Catra does get into controversies it’s usually shit like blowing someone off, being unafraid to insult someone she feels deserves it, or taking over a party like she did the bar. That’s the modern day rockstar stuff, which is a marketing term she doesn’t use herself to the public but that definitely comes up in a lot of coverage of her.

⦁ Conversely, Adora tries to keep her life private and she’s astonishingly successful given her numbers but stuff spills out, mostly in her dating life, because it was a little messy pre-Catra. She did earnestly attempt some relationships, but they were failed attempts and that left some messy exes.

⦁ Catra hasn’t like, actually had sex in public, but there’s definitely been some extremely horny making out in front of people at clubs and exchanges that people with shame would keep behind closed doors. Despite all outward appearances, Catra needs a safe environment to feel comfortable having sex, so she has some standards, she just tries to seem like she doesn’t.

Chapter 5:

⦁ Normally I headcanon Catra as having a really sharp memory for Pain reasons but for both trauma and sobriety reasons she really doesn’t remember much of her burn-down year, which is when she and An dated, and she meets a lot of people literally every week, so at a certain part they get away from her.

"Chapter" 6:

⦁ “lake at the bottom or our river” is a XANA lyric and “unhappy in Manhattan” is a Chappell referenced queen you SERVED at the VMAs.

⦁ I did the capitalizations purposefully here with CATRA used when talking about her music and Catra used when referring to her as a person.

⦁ When I first wrote An I was not intending this bonus scene to exist but it didn’t make sense to invent another ex for it, so I just gave An a really, really bad day. The meltdown was mostly about everything else happening in her life, honestly, but when she saw she was being filmed she assumed she was recognized because of that and she snapped. I support women’s wrongs she was justified.

⦁ Catra and Adora’s fans do, generally, support their relationship. Both of them have come up with ways to call the other toxic so those subsets always exist, but this post really was about an outlier situation that got blown out of proportion on stan twt and wouldn’t have been that big of a deal/worth a post if the 7/11 incident hadn’t happened. I just really like r/HobbyDrama (when it’s good).

⦁ I love how extremely obvious “Hardcore CATRA stan’s” bias is when describing Catra versus Adora lol.

⦁ Lonnie made the pie chart Catra ended up posting to make fun of her while they were working on her latest album. Catra hasn’t actually fact-checked it so it’s wrong in some regards but close enough. It’s also a pie chart pulled directly from my writing tracking spreadsheet, though I manipulated some of the values first. Catra would Not have gone to the effort of making this, the only reason she replied at all is because Lonnie sent it to her literally last week and she thought it was funny, and also wanted the (small subset) who were bitter about her finding happiness to get ratio’d appropriately. It bothers her when people try to make Adora out to be toxic, that’s HER girl, excuse you.

⦁ There’s always that one annoying comment at the bottom of the post that then totally unrelated discourse breaks out in the replies on and that’s what happened with that last comment. Also jjaj10 is for Aly & AJ’s recent 10 year album anniversary this summer.

⦁ Catra goes for the slightly subtler “GOD.DESS” title for her next album (her albums are all stylized in all caps) which is mostly about how fucking amazing her or Adora are in various respects (include sex) with a few “bad bitches have bad days too” moments (Megan the Stallion you are iconic). The cover art is centered on Adora, actually, who’s sitting on their sex bench dykespreading in pants and a tight tank top showing off her arm muscles and serving face to the camera while Catra drapes over her wearing black leather and posed with her leg slipping between Adora’s. Catra's leather outfit is the same one she's then described to be wearing in the bonus chapter 7 (hi from the future). It’s subtle but the kink people in their fandoms immediately identify this photo was taken in a Very Private room in their home and once they say it everybody knows that’s not a workout bench even though tbh it looks like one in the shot. They knew that was going to happen or they wouldn’t have done it, Catra literally has an S&M-type song on the album. They’re really just living their best lives at this point.

⦁ It is not… impossible that I add to this fic more in the future, and if so it would be tacked on the end but could conceivably by non-linear, i.e. scenes taking place during or before the main fic itself and not just following it.

Maybe I missed something, but how come JPN twitter is celebrating August 23rd as Baji-san day?

Ok so I'm not Japanese and don't know much about what that side of the fandom is up to, so I'm not totally sure but I think I've figured it out. It's obviously not his birthday and nothing else happens in the tr calendar on that day, especially nothing to do with Baji. Which leads us to the date itself, everyone posting for Baji San day has been using this hashtag, writing the day as 8/23

Then a lot of the posts themselves have been shortening it further into 823, making the number itself seem important. And our final hint is how some of the posts have been writing Baji's name, splitting into like this Ba- Ji- San. I don't know the Japanese numbers but looking them up, San does seem to be 3 so that one fits clearly.

The 8 and the 2 don't seem to fit as clearly but after listening to pronunciations they seem to fit. So I think it's Baji San day or rather ba-ji-san day because the date and the number order itself kinda sounds like that's what it's saying.

I kinda wonder if fans who overuse the shortening as an excuse for the show's lackluster writing are deep down aware that the writing wasn't always the best, and they cling on to the shortening as a scapegoat, because it HAS to be that right???? It can't possibly be because the show isn't perfect and has flaws like any other show right???

I believe that some do use it an excuse while others really do believe that all of the issues would have been resolved if there was a full season 3. Although even if the show did have a full season I think we still would have seen the same issues that have appeared since the first season (Amity losing her character traits, another poorly planned out and boring redemption arc for an antagonist, Gus and Willow continuing to be there but not real characters, and the lackluster world building).

The show heavily relies on people thinking it's deep and subversive because that's what it presented as being and had vague gestures toward having deeper themes, only to never commit to it and settle for spectacle over anything substantive. So when people point out any flaws, people put their guard up because they can't be wrong! The Owl House is the greatest and most groundbreaking show ever! Look at all the queer rep and disability rep! Look a diverse group of queer kids and adults defeated an evil white colonizer fascist! Steven Universe could never!

Sorry but no, the show is not as deep as diehard fans claim to be because its own inconsistent writing undercuts any message it's trying to convey.

The cancellation did not help matters but the crew already knew about it by the time they began writing 2B. So they had time to wrap up the plot and characters instead of adding elements that they wouldn't have time to elaborate on later.

It's ok if your favorite show isn't a masterpiece. Very few shows are. It's ok that your favorite show is flawed because people are flawed. Making art is difficult. Some things can be blamed on executives but not everything.

And when people criticize media in good faith, don't take it as an attack on yourself. Take it as an opportunity to learn from another perspective and what they may have to offer.

sorry this is a bit scattered, the random quotes are just lines that i liked/found funny. i had to shorten all my reasonings by a fuck ton bcs i was just going on forever lmao, so if some things feel kinda cut off, that's why.

i binged all of rick and morty in like a week to make this, just to make sure the ranking was fully accurate to me and it took me way to long but i'm finally done !!

btw this isnt a ranking of which episodes are objectively the best, its very biased and just my personal opinions, im aware some epsiodes definitely shouldnt be as high as they are but a lot of them are just my comfort episodes 🤷

f tier: episodes i actively dislike, have little to no redeeming qualities.

71. rickdependance spray: audibly said "oh, fuck no." when i realised this was next. the rest of weird-ish episodes have some redeeming points but this one just has no plot relevance and isnt very funny.

70. raising gazorpazorp: main reason i dislike this episode is the end credit, it reminds me of when i was listening to family line and my dad insinuated conan was making it up and that if i got famous i'd do the same, like, no, if i talk abt what a shitty dad you are its bcs you were a shitty dad, do better. anyway i just thought it was an unfunny joke. due to daddy issues. also its just a boring episode.

69. a rickconvenient mort: summer and rick's storyline was ok but not enough to make up for how much i hate planetina. i liked beth in this episode. rick and summer's dynamic was nice too, but unhealthy.

e tier: episodes i don't dislike, just find boring/have bad elements but more redeeming qualities.

66. interdimensional cable 2: tempting fate: i care very little about jerry's penis. the interdimensional cable was good as usual though.

65. how poopy got his poop back: fine episode, not my fav. i liked seeing bp and squanchy again.

64. edge of tomorty: rick die rickpeat: "Damn, Morty, you're bad at maths, but I'm giving you an a-plus in confidence!" an okay episode.

63. rick: a mort well lived: pretty weak episode to follow solaricks. summer's die hard was good. some cool emotional components.

62. rattlestar ricklactia: "Hey, Morty, listen. I can tell you're pretty upset about the whole snake encounter thing, so I'll tell you what. I'm just gonna go ahead and avoid you for the rest of the day." rnm were kind of cute at the end. yk, until rick punched morty in the face :/.

61. the jerrick trap: sorry ik a lot of ppl love this episode but tho burger & fries were cute characters its not all that for me. memory rick's return, however, was all that. i love him.

60. childrick of mort: "Oh my god, grandpa, you fuck boy." rick being a space nerd <3. loved to see more of beth and rick together but other than that this episode was kinda mid.

59. amortycan grickfitti: honestly made me feel bad for jerry which isnt easy, i sort of liked rick here, he seemed reluctant to let the hell demons make fun of jerry, he still did, but even apologised with only a little prompting. can't say the same for beth. summer and morty were sweet in this episode, i wish we would get more of them.

58. rickmancing the stone: "I don't know why I'm crying." "Well... try crying 15% less?" not bad, i liked the emotional components.

57. mortynight run: again, not super memorable to me. the roy montage was good. You kind of wasted your 30's, though, with that whole birdwatching phase." the animation for the song was great.

d tier: mostly okay to good episodes with minor faults that i can look past in the general scheme of the episode.

56. one crew over the crewcoo's morty: fucked up what rick did to morty. and to mr pb, his life went to shit after this, bcs of rick.

55. night family: had some great moments, but wasnt my fav.

54. anatomy park: loved dr bloom, john oliver voiced him perfectly.

53. lawnmower dog: sweet scenes between rnm. liked the dream inceptor, loved scary terry, snuffles was good too but not as much.

52. claw and hoarder: special ricktims morty: "Are you gonna slay it?" "First off, i always slay it, queen. Secondly, yes." summer being on morty's side was nice. while the soul orgy was a bit weird, the rest of this episode was pretty entertaining which is why its higher up, sorry.

51. bethic twinstinct: jerry saying he would khs, not cool jerry fuck you. "You ladies discuss responsibility while i get stoned and play video games with your kids." the end 💀 i felt bad but it was funny lol.

50. final desmitation: maybe my fav ep of jerry and rick's relationship. i liked seeing rick disapprove of them making fun of jerry, had some funny moments and i even liked jerry here.

49. a rick in king mortur's mort: not the best but i enjoyed rickbot being nice to morty. also this episode sets up for rmrm which i love.

48. promortyus: morty's little yee-haw 😭. and their conversation, so sweet. taking the adderall line as an adhd rick confirmation. "It is my thing. Just like yours is dying alone," get his ass. i feel like the romance couldve been a compelling story if the hosts werent rnm.

47. the whirly dirly conspiracy: rick's take on jerry was accurate. "But no, like father like goddamn daughter! You wanna be like Rick? Congratulations, you're just as arrogant and just as irresponsible!" morty ate. i prefered summer and beths storyline to rick and jerry's.

c tier: solid, episodes, some have a few faults but theyre small

46. mort: ragnarick: it's so high up because i found rick to be likeable and liked his dynamic with morty. ricks clone was cute too.

45. look who's purging now: "Screw you, Rick! I'll purge you too, you old rickety piece of crap!" rnm's storyline was great, i liked arthrisha.

44. the ricks must be crazy: "I dropped out of school. It's not a place for smart people." "Ohhhh, snap!" lmao literally my reaction. "Ooh. Wow. Gaaay!" "That is pretty gay." not much more to say, good ep.

43. never ricking morty: rnm were sweet in this ep. the gay ass song with rick and bp. "Rick are you– do you need to go to the hospital?" the forehead kiss was sweet. (we're ignoring "Lips if you want.")

42. mort dinner rick andre: mr nimbus is a great character. the wine storyline was a bit boring. "I havent been to a full week of school in years! I don't know shit!" love the peek at rick's backstory too.

41. rick potion #9: important lore episode. some funny bits. morty was a little creepy in this one. i love jerry primes character development. first look on down from the bridge moment !!

40. forgetting sarick mortshall: "What are you, eight? Is this macaroni art? You expect me to believe you built this because you don't care?" liked ricks storyline and he actually does seem to be showing minor development. the end song was good. liked garbage goober's lore.

39. morty's mindblowers: rick removing whatever memories he wanted was fucked up. rick saying granite instead of granted will always be funny. also him losing in chackers and skiing into a tree.

38. mortyplicity: entertaining enough if a little convoluted, i liked it though. sweet moment between the decoy family, shame they died.

37. big trouble in little sanchez: actually liked jerry and beths storyline in this one. tiny riiick !! "old rick! ruining everything!" good episode.

36. pilot: good intro, sets the tone. rick is such a dick (affectionate). rnm's dynamic !! the animation is great. overall great episode.

35. pickle rick: ik its a overrated but i think its good. hes pickle riiiick. dr wong's speech to rick was actually really good and accurate.

34. meeseeks and destroy: rick was such a whiny bitch this episode (affectionate), up until the mr jellybean stuff, which i liked bcs it was handled well by the writers and rick was actually very sweet.

33. rick and morty's thanksploitation spectacular: president curtis' alcoholic sci-fi boyfriend is probably my favourite way rick has been refered to in the show LOL. overall i enjoyed this episode.

32. something ricked this way comes: idc now but, the first time watching rick's r slur speech it was obnoxious and offputting. summer and rick were great, i adore their dynamic, love summer and rick episodes, but idrc for jerry's storyline, he bores me so bad.

31. full meta jackrick: "Rick can't change, Morty. Change is what you might call his Kryptonite." there were a lot of things i liked abt this ep.

30. vindicators 3: the return of worldender: very good episode. forever a believer that the ride was for morty and rick just chickened out.

29. a rickle in time: the va for the testicle monster was great. beth and jerry's storyline also wasn't bad. rick jumping into the hole and sacrificing his life for morty, im sobbing. great episode.

28. the vat of acid episode: morty trying to make rick feel better about not being able to make the thing was very sweet. morty's relationship with that girl was adorable, so sad it was erased by jerry's dumb ass /lh. fuck rick in this episode. the end was funny.

27. rixty minutes: while i do love interdimensional cable this episode would've been lower if it wasn't for all the character moments. "You can't leave, you're 17." "Yeah, and I'm not pregnant. I'm gonna have better judgement than you guys had at my age." loved summer getting screentime. beth and jerry's moment was quite sweet.

26. ricksy business: bp and squanchy !!! >:) bp coming through with the deep speech. the montage of rick morty and summer at the end is so adorable i love them sm <3. "I love my grandkids." "Aw :)." "Psych, just kidding, my new catchphrase is i dont give a fuuuck!"

25. get schwifty: first president curtis episode !! i love him. love morty and bp interactions haha. "In bird culture, this is considered a dick move." "It is random debris. I found it in my carpet. I don't know what humans eat." crying i love him sm. one of my personal favs lol :).

24. juricksick mort: tbh i mostly like this ep bcs of "You pompous autistic cadaver!" but there was other good moments and it was entertaining. rick was funny and likeable and very much a disaster of a human being, as i was promised when i started watching rnm.

21. rest and ricklaxation: "Grandpa's here." SOBBING. "Because you kept drunk-dialing me and crying about it!" "I wasn't crying!" loved jessica and ricks dynamic lol. great episode.

20. rickfending your mort: great follow up to unmortricken, i like that rick doesnt just go back to normal and we see it takes a while and even then its only bcs morty steps in. morty making up titles for all their adventures is adorable. great sweet scenes between rnm.

19. the rickchurian mortydate: autistic rick !! also minecraft. the president is such a pathetic loser lol <3. i loved rick and morty being on the same wavelength in this episode. the ending was good.

18. wet kuat amortycan summer: summer-centric episode !! rick was likeable, liked seeing him clumsy getting his grove back. him saying summer reminds him of diane again, he's getting so much more open, im so proud, can you imagine s3 rick being sincere like that?

17. close rickcounters of the rick kind: best s1 episode, love citadel episodes. evil morty !!!!! some funny moments. "You're crying? Over a Morty?" sobbing. "Yeah, but wheres the transmitter?" and the evil morty song oh god, best scene ever fr. i love my evil guy :3.

s tier: outstanding episodes, the 16 best imo.

16. that's amorte: FANTASTIC episode, the end montage is the only part of any rnm episode thats made me cry a little, it would be higher up but i have some personal favs which i put higher. i feel like this episode was very classic rnm after having them separated half of s7.

15. the old man and the seat: jerry and morty's dynamic is pretty funny. tony and rick's storyline was fantastic. some pretty angsty stuff. "The saaaddest piece of garbage in the entire cosmos."

14. the abc's of beth: rick and beth episode !! rick saying that an adventure clearly needs morty in it, aw. i did not care about jerry's storyline at all. beth had no right being so relatable in this ep.

13. ricktional mortpoon's rickmas mortcation: rick relapsing into finding prime !! "I'm not touching that thing. I'll get neurotypical cooties." ok, so ik a lot of ppl don't like the speech rick said to morty, but i do, he was going through a LOT, this clearly took him quite a few steps back in development and healing, i think it was less bad than a lot of other things he's done and way more justified.

12. fear no mort: loved morty getting his time to shine, LOVED diane and rick. morty realising rick wasn't in the hole has to be one of the best moments in the show. rick not going in the hole at the end bcs morty told him not to, hope some day he'll get to the point of doing things for morty in front of him so he can realise how much he cares.

11. analyze piss: look at rick asking dr wong for advice. him relating to piss master :(. also i read a phenomenal fic abt this ep (tw sh) (link).

10. air force wong: UNITY RETURNS! Rick was kinda childish in this episode but i feel like it was justified, he wasn't being a dick just bcs, he was hurting, and he even kinda apologised to summer, hes trying. rick going to drink with the president instead of being alone.

9. the rickshank rickdemption: RICK PRIME. "That, diane, is the last great idea that will ever be had in this garage." :((((. ricks backstory. "he's not a villan, summer, but he shouldn't be ur hero." fantastic ep.

8. rickmurai jack: love two crows rick. rick's full "crybaby" backstory !! "Now you're evil morty, too. sooner or later we all are. on this side of the curve." THE END OH GOD. THE MUSIC. EVIL MORTY LETTING OUT A SIGH OF RELIEF. INSANE finale.

7. gotron jerrysis rickvangelion: rick is so spectacularly autistic in this one. i like how he doesnt silly hyperfixtate, he full on unhealthy hyperfixtates. i practically know this ep off by heart. comfort ep fr.

6. rickternal friendshine of the spotless mort: im not sorry for putting this up so high, i love this ep so fucking much. memory rick is so silly i love him sm. "You were a good friend, Rick. Goodbye." the blood ridge confession makes me FERAL. i can quote it word for word.

5. the wedding squanchers: THIS EPISODE. rick watching bp die in front of him. rick turning himself in :(. "everyone i know goes away in the end." the music was so good. "he's not coming back, is he?"

4. the ricklantis mixup: best citadel ep, fight me. j-22 trying to save simple rick only to suffer the same fate :(. slick jumping into the wishing portal. the ending was phenomenal, every single storyline was amazing and important. and evil morty returns.

3. auto erotic assimilation: love unity and ricks dynamic. blim blam humbling beth and jerry. jerry using the weed whacker right in front of the garage where rick just attempted. and no one notices. bc that's how it is. "do you feel it?" is a great song. maybe this ep is higher than it should be but it's my comfort ep, it means so much to me.

2. solaricks: first time we get to see dimension c-137 out of a flashback !! "I hope Summer knows what happens to the people you love!" "Oh, am I cool enough for you now? Well, that was easy. It only cost me fucking everything." "I don't know him. You're my grandpa, rick." rip jerry prime, my fav jerry. THIS EPISODE IS PHENOMENAL.

1. unmortricken: ok anyone who knows me knows this is my fav ep bcs i never stfu abt it. i mean, evil morty backstory, rick beating prime to death, GOD. ian cardoni was COOKING with the delivery of those lines, and the lines were fantastic. some good rnm moments. the angst is so good. "How's it feel? Better? No? Exactly the same? Yeah, it always does." best look on down from the bridge moment.

i keep going over this a million times just to make sure everything is perfect but idk, some episodes are maybe interchangeable, im just going to post it bcs its been rotting in my drafts for quite a while now, everyone promise you dont hate me for putting an episode 1 slot too high or low /j

and sorry for all the jerry hate in this post, i dont hate him i just find him boring, so eps where he's the centre tend to be lower on the list.

brief backstory of my rook first, particularly to explain my answer to the first question: he was raised qunari and became saarebas. he was travelling somewhere in mainland thedas with his arvaarad and they got attacked (maybe by darkspawn, but it doesnt really matter). his arvaarad died, but he was rescued by a grey warden who was manning a largely inactive outpost alone. the warden helped him recover and also encouraged him to find his own path, and they were there together for a few years. eventually rook decided to become a warden himself. he still considers himself qunari but knows that it's not technically true

2. How did Rook get the nickname? What do they think of it?

ok this is the one ive probably been doing the most thinking about and im kinda between two answers

so, first option: when he picks his new name (because he's now a grey warden, rather than saarebas), it's something that can get shortened to rook. im currently delving into qunlat, trying to get a grasp on the language, and seeing if i can come up with something. i dont know if this will work, but i do still plan to find him a qunlat name that works for being a warden, regardless

second option: in my current qunari research, i read 'the straight path', which is a qunari children's story that definitely contains the type of values he tries to adhere to. maybe he gets into chess with his warden pal and then talks about that story and following the straight path and the warden's like "oh like the rook!" idk. i think that's sweet

4. Which faction did they join, and why? How long has it been?

they grey wardens for the reasons above. from the way his interactions have gone so far in-game, id say he hasnt been a warden for very long, maybe a few years. it's probably only been about 5 years since he met that warden; maybe 3 years staying with them, and then 2 as a proper warden himself

10. Does Rook know their history? Do they know of the HoF, Hawke, the Inquisitor?

prior to becoming a warden, he would have heard of hawke because the qunari invasion of kirkwall would have caused a huge stir, especially after it was disavowed by the arigena and ariqun. he probably didnt hear much, if anything, about the mage-templar war, though. he likes reading, so maybe he's read the tale of the champion since meeting varric

he would have learned about the hof as a grey warden. my hof also has an office or something at weisshaupt, so they've probably briefly met. similarly, he would have heard of the inquisitor in relation to the wardens and also the concerns about corypheus and a potential archdemon during all that. he was still saarebas during the events of inquisition, though, so he wouldnt have had any direct involvement

15. What’s the first thing people notice when Rook enters a room?

not to make absolutely everything about the fact that he's qunari, but... the fact that he's qunari lmao. it's pissing me off that nobody in-game reacts to it, especially given the qunari are one of the main antagonist factions

16. Got any tattoos? What’s the story behind them?

idk why im drawing a blank about whether i gave him any tattoos in cc..... but i didnt have his backstory planned then, so the proper answer is no, i think

17. How’d Rook get those scars?

he was a qunari living in seheron for a while (before becoming saarebas). even though he wasnt part of the antaam, he would have encountered plenty of hostility. i gave him the lightning tattoos because they looked cool, so i imagine he got into a fight with some tevinters. i feel his magic would have manifested in response to some sudden dangerous conflict, so maybe that's when it happened

i also gave him top surgery scars just because i could, but i dont think those would be canon for him. ive been constructing a whole qunari gender theory but it's still heavily in the works so im not going into that yet

28. Does Rook have any pets/animal companions?

nope :(

30. What is Rook’s class? Did they choose it?

he's a mage, so definitely didnt choose it! prior to gaining his magic, he wasnt a fighter, so he would never have become any other class otherwise

42. Something Rook regrets:

he doesnt tend to have regrets. he truly believes in the philosophy of the qun and finding stillness, which helps him make good decisions and also accept the decisions that he makes

he probably regrets not doing more to save his arvaarad because his life has been a bit of a mess since then, but he's trying to make the most of it

45. Who was Rook’s closest friend before joining the Veilguard?

that one warden, i guess. i havent thought about his friendships before becoming saarebas, and while he was saarebas he didnt really have friends, but he had a pretty peaceful relationship with his arvaarad, which is probably the closest he got. once he joined the wardens, he had a lot of trouble making friends because he was still trying to get the hang of human culture

Ok I counted 130 things of hunter exclusively, varying from finished drawings, sketches, comics, animations, a figurine, and the occasional fake edit I made (I don’t know how to make edits it was just sensory overload on purpose)

Which 130 in what like 3 years is a fucking light work no reaction for me now I have 201 drawings of the same characters within 3 months (I AM OFF MY ROCKER! WHERE ARE MY MARBLES!)

Is it cringe to say this character is very important to me but I don’t like how he got did in the show.

I HATED how his character got done in the finale, don’t get me wrong it was…. I MEAN ITS AIGHT! But I first got super attached to his character when I first saw him because of the fact it was the first time I saw a character that I could relate to on a very specific level that most medias just kinda dance around or represent just. Bad. And I think it’s because of my mind immediately going oh my god I relate to this character so much that when they started representing trauma and ptsd and how that manifests I kinda got all what if I hit you with my car because it wasn’t like. Right?? I dunno I do just be hating all the time though.

Edit2: Even tho I heard of the brawns and brains for donnie and raph, which both like sorta works but also kinda cliche and may not be the best rep of their duo. Tho I honestly think there isn't much moments w those 2 specifically. Both are kinda serious at times. Maybe the no duo or no no duo XD cos they shut down each others bs
