I really do hate when people ship the doctor with his/their companions
Ik the literal writers do it all the time so it's baked in
Doesn't mean I hate it any less
Especially when it's 12 and Clara
It's so icky I hate it
Honestly my only major exception is 12 and River, I feel like there was still a major power imbalance and the Doctor's relationship with River was super messed up anyway but 12 and River were actually really cute and had good chemistry.
Sorry for the mini rant but you should expect this of me by now

seething, blooming // jace x reader
Tumblr media
your father has always been something of an opportunist, but trying to marry you off to the blacks while he courts the greens? this is taking playing the game to a whole new level.
the rose discovers she is an instrument of war. —victor hugo.
Tumblr media
fandom; house of the dragon pairing; jacaerys velaryon x f!tyrell!reader (no use of y/n) warnings; canon au (set after aegon takes the crown but before luke's death bc luke will never die in my eyes), altered timeline (jace and reader are in their 20s), arranged marriage, mention parental death/death in childbed (reader's mother), love at first sight vibes, jace is a flirtatious little shit with his betrothed, tooth rotting fluff, love confessions. word count; 6k+ notes; one day i might write for another man. but that day is not today. jace velaryon u have my heart. i'm not majorly pleased w this fic but it's given me enough trouble and it's as good as it's gonna get! this was longer originally, and was meant to be a bit more political at first hence the blurb/quote choice, but i haaated some of the scenes so ended up scrapping 'em. she's not as long as predicted as a result but still an ok length i think. some of the scenes i scrapped were tragically the smut ones, so have this fairly pg one-shot with the promise of the smut-shot sitting in my drafts coming ur way soon. fair warning that the scrapping of scenes has fudged with the pacing a bit but honestly i can't take this fic sitting in my drafts any longer so here u go!! i have a taglist now, mostly cos eldrith keeps telling me i have to tag her in everything, so lmk if you'd like to be added to it! requests; are open !

the rising sun paints highgarden in shades of pink and gold.
you stand upon your balcony, finger curled loosely over the pale marble as you stare distantly out over the rolling green fields and blooming gardens. the faint bubbling of the river mander in the distance adds to the peaceful morning, the early wash of sunlight coaxing the sleeping world into life. a cool breeze carries the sweet smell of roses and you take a steadying breath, eyes fluttering shut as you tilt your face up to the sun.
it's a morning that starts like many others. you’ve always risen from bed early, the slow blooming of morning stirring you from slumber more often than not. birds chirp and bees buzz and the river flows and you rise with it, like part of you calls to the breaking dawn.
if not for the thick sheaf of parchment discarded on your father’s desk, it could be a morning like any other. but the parchment is there, and this day will be like no other before it.
today, a dragon is expected at highgarden.
a targaryen has not stepped foot in the reach since before you were born. you don’t think even the princess rhaenyra – queen, now, according to some – had come this far on her marriage tour years ago. but your father has taken it upon himself to invite a prince to your home.
you love your father deeply, but in this you think he must be a fool. as lord paramount of the reach he is, in theory, the power of this kingdom. but anyone with a lick of sense knows that it’s the hightowers that the people look to; oldtown is home to the starry sept, the citadel and, perhaps more importantly, the dowager queen’s family line.
the tyrells have only been in power for a few generations, and people’s memories are long. too many know the truth of how house tyrell had been only a steward when the gardener kings had ruled before the conquest. and so too many see tyrell as a house grasping for power that should be beyond their fingers, and your father is apparently determined to prove them all right.
he’s been careful about his neutrality as war threatens to break out between the targaryen kin, brother and sister both claiming their right to the throne and the realm splitting down the middle. your father has not officially allied with either side, walking a careful tightrope to appease both. up until now you had assumed he sided more with the greens, but he’d sent your assumptions crumbling with only a few sheets of parchment.
your father has always been too ambitious for his own good.
gods, how you miss your mother. when she’d been alive, she’d tempered the worst of your father’s foolishness. she’d been a stark before she’d married, steadfast and sensible in the face of your father’s folly. she’d been a woman unlike any other you’ve known; ferocious and a little wild, but with a good heart and a warm smile for any she’d met.
she’d taught you how to be a lady, but so much more than that – she’d taught you to know your own mind. to know when to mind your tongue and when to speak, how to grow your roots so deep you will always stand tall, flourishing and growing like the most determined of flowers. she’d taught you a little of that northern ice, too, reminding you oft that for as much as you were a rose of highgarden you were equally a wolf of the north, and the wolf’s blood has always run thick in your veins.
she’d called you her little winter rose; delicate and steely and a rare bloom, indeed. she had loved you so fiercely you’d flourished with her tender care, just as the patch of winter roses she’d brought from the glass gardens of winterfell had bloomed ‘neath her careful ministrations. a piece of the north she’d brought south with her, a tiny bit of her home that she’d cradled and cared for until the day you’d lost her to the birthing bed.
your little brother is nearing six, now, and many moons have passed since the sudden grief of your mother had overwhelmed you. but, in recent days you have ached with her loss more often, wondering what she would think of your father’s plans, what she would say to soothe your storm of anxiety. with your looming marriage you find yourself missing your mother acutely, the grief a reopened wound in your chest.
because you are a betrothed woman, now, to be married to a stranger, a prince who is sure to be fighting a war against his kin in the moons to come.
Tumblr media
the velaryon prince arrives on dragon back as the sun reaches its peak in the sky.
he dismounts his winged steed in an empty stretch of land a distance from the keep itself, and your father greets him there with a host of staff to accompany him back to the entrance courtyard.
your brother leo bounces in place beside you where you stand with the rest of the household in the courtyard, fairly vibrating with energy at the prospect of seeing a real-life dragon. since the news of the prince’s arrival was announced a sennight ago, leo has done little else but babble about dragons and magic and targaryens. you wish you could share his excitement, his sheer uncomplicated joy, but this visit comes with too many conflicting emotions for you to enjoy it at all.
you’ve always known you would not marry for love. you are the eldest child and only daughter of the lord of the reach – love has never been a factor you could afford to consider. you would do your duty and marry for your house, to seal whatever alliance your father deemed important enough. you’d resigned yourself to this fate as a young girl when your mother had told you in slow, halting words the fear she had felt coming south to marry your father.
but you’d not expected to marry a total stranger. you’d thought your father would at least do you the courtesy of allowing you to meet a suitor before betrothing you to them, but in his feverish ambition to sit his blood on the iron throne he’d promised you to a man you’ve never laid eyes upon.
you don’t want to be queen.
frankly, you think yourself a touch unsuited for it. your father has many times bemoaned your wildness, the wolfs blood that drives you to stubborn recklessness. though you’ve mellowed a little with age and experience, you think you’re still a bit too prone to chaos to be queen of the seven kingdoms one day. never mind the complexities added by the fact that queen rhaenyra’s claim is so fiercely contested, and her half-brother is the one currently physically sitting the iron throne.
thinking about the mess you’re marrying into too much makes your head ache, and the blazing noon sun does little to ease it. leo beside you continues to whisper rapidly about everything he knows about dragons, which is actually quite a lot considering his young age. you think absently you might need to have a word with the maester’s again; leo has wrapped most of the household around his finger, and the elderly maester is prone to indulging your brother when he fixates on a new topic of interest instead of sticking to his lessons.
the sound of hooves on cobble stones startles you from your meandering thoughts, and you straighten your spine as your eyes take in the unfamiliar man riding into the courtyard beside your father while your brother finally falls silent.
he’s handsome, at least; a tumble of dark curls brushing his shoulders, a sharp jaw and a strong nose. though you like to think yourself more than superficial, it eases at least some of your worries to know the prince is attractive to you. your mother had done you the courtesy of explaining what was expected of you on your wedding night after your first moons blood, and in secret since you’d perused the library for books detailing more lustful acts in an effort to satiate your unending curiosity.
you’re worried enough about completing your wifely duties without having to worry about finding the man lying with you repulsive, and so you allow yourself a few moments of relief at his pretty face.
your father dismounts first, gesturing for you to step forward as the prince gets down from his own horse. leo moves forward with you, eyes wide and shining with something akin to hero worship as he gazes at jacaerys. you have a wry thought that perhaps he should marry him since he is so clearly already enamoured, but you brush that aside as your father and the prince approach.
“i am most pleased to introduce my daughter, your grace, as well as my son and heir, leo,” your father says as they reach you, his satisfaction in his successful planning clear as he smiles smugly.
you dip into a perfect curtsey as leo bows a touch clumsily at your side. as heir it would traditionally be leo’s job to greet the prince, but when you send him a sidelong glance you see he is too busy making moon eyes at the darkhaired man to say anything, and so you take it upon yourself to speak.
“welcome to highgarden, my prince. we are honoured to host you,” you greet, finally meeting jacaerys’s eyes. they’re a warm amber shade, the noon sun turning them to liquid honey as he looks at you, and you feel your cheeks flush with the appreciation you can see in his gaze as he drinks you in. it seems he does not find you repulsive either, at least.
he sketches a quick bow, eyes never leaving yours, and you feel your heart start to race in your chest at his attention. “it is an honour to be here, my lady, and to finally make your acquaintance.” he smiles at you then, small and a little crooked but there, and your flush deepens. “i look forward to getting to know you better in the coming days.”
you swallow, hoping your budding attraction is not as obvious as you fear it is. your father is looking increasingly smug as he watches the interaction, though it seems to war with some paternal annoyance as jacaerys lightly flirts with you.
“and i you,” you return softly, a smile quirking on your lips.
“—can i meet your dragon?” leo bursts out, seemingly unable to contain himself any longer, and jacaerys blinks down at him in surprise as you resist the urge to press your palm to your face.
“leo,” you scold immediately as your father chortles at his heir’s enthusiasm for dragons. “the prince has had a long journey. you should give him a chance to settle in before demanding anything of him.”
“right you are, my dear.” your father waves to the household steward before turning to the prince. “alyn will show you to your rooms, your grace, so that you might freshen up, and then we have a feast prepared for this evening to welcome you to highgarden.”
jacaerys nods easily as the greeting crowd begins to disperse, the maester corralling leo to take him for his lessons with fond exasperation even as the boy loudly protests. you mean to go walk the gardens, and so you stay standing in place as the prince trails after your father and steward alyn.
he pauses beside you, though, a slight smile on his face as you look up at him questioningly. your eyes catch on the smattering of freckles on his face, and it takes a moment for you to process his words. “i look forward to speaking to you further at the feast, my lady.”
you smile back at him, cheeks flushing once again as his eyes linger on your mouth for a breathless moment. “i shall save you a dance, my prince,” you return a touch coyly, tucking your hair behind your ear.
“only one dance?” he teases, eyebrow arching.
you hum, head tilting to the side in mock consideration as something like satisfaction gleams in jacaerys’s eyes. “i shall have to use the first dance to judge your dancing skills, your grace, before i risk promising you another.”
he laughs then, a little surprised but no doubt pleased as his eyes crinkle with his wide smile. “then i shall do my best to meet your standards, my lady.” he dips into a quick bow of farewell, then, as you finally take note of your father lingering on the steps to the keep with raised eyebrows.
“we shall see,” you return as you curtsey.
you allow yourself a moment to watch his retreating back, eyes dragging over the strong line of his shoulders before you internally shake yourself and head to the gardens, thoughts swimming with honey brown eyes and tanned, freckled skin and a slow dawning certainty that while this betrothal may be unexpected, you doubt it will leave you unsatisfied.
Tumblr media
the feast is in full swing by the time the prince arrives at the hall.
the minstrels are playing a jaunty tune as couples twirl on the dance floor. you sit at the head table with leo and your father, watching with a careful eye as your brother cuts up his food. he’s only just mastered the art of eating his food without spilling half if it down his doublet, but as distracted as he is by the festivities and the prospect of seeing a dragon close up, you worry he’s at risk of making a mess of himself regardless.
so absorbed in your task you are, it takes a long moment for you to realise jacaerys has arrived. it’s only when your skin prickles with awareness that you look up from leo and catch sight of the prince winding his way across the floor to the head table, eyes fixed on you. your head tilts to the side slightly as you watch him move, graceful and controlled, through the crowd.
he’s in black and red again, just as he had been when he’d arrived. it seems your father had been right when he’d stated that jacaerys favours his mother’s house colours. you smooth your hand over the skirts of your dress, the deep wine-red of the material feeling less out of place now, before standing with your father to greet the prince.
you all exchange pleasantries quickly as the noise in the hall dims, people realising the prince has arrived. your father ushers jacaerys into the empty seat between you and your father as he raises his goblet to the hall before speaking in his booming voice.
you don’t pay attention to your father’s speech, too aware of the warmth radiating from jacaerys who stands only inches from you to focus. you risk a glance at him from the corner of your eyes only to find his dark honey eyes fixed on you, and you cannot help but smile to yourself even as you flush, turning your eyes back to the crowd.
rousing applause and cheers draw you back to the moment, and you catch yourself in time to raise your wine in toast with your father. you go to sit back down as the crowd returns to its revelries, but the soft brush of a hand on your arm halts your movement. you turn expectingly to the prince, a soft smile on your lips.
“yes, your grace?”
“would you do me the honour of a dance, my lady?”
your lips quirk into a sly smile even as you bob your head in a nod. “i suppose i did promise you one, did i not?”
“that you did, my lady, and i have thought of nothing else since.” dark honey eyes sparkle with mirth as he offers you his hand, and with a quiet giggle you take it and allow him to lead you to the dance floor.
you feel the heat of his hand on your waist like a brand even through the layers of your dress, and it makes your breath catch in your throat. you inhale deeply in an effort to steady yourself as you rest your palm on his strong shoulder, and are immediately overwhelmed by the woodsy scent of him as he claps your hand in his and begins to dance.
you start the dance in comfortable silence, both of you taking a few moments to get a feel for the other and settle into the steps, and when you feel comfortable enough you speak.
“how are you finding highgarden, prince jacaerys?”
“jace, please,” he entreats, and elaborates only when you blink at him in confusion. “my friends and family call me jace, not jacaerys. we are to be married, my lady. it would please me a great deal for my future wife to refer to me as such.”
you nod in acceptance, butterflies erupting in your stomach at his eager expression. “jace it is, then,” you say, and try not to feel the way your heart flutters at his radiant smile in response. “although you have not answered my question. how are you finding highgarden?”
he hums, twirling you as the dance requires and then pulling you closer before responding. “your father has been very hospitable, and it is certainly beautiful here. the grounds especially, though i’m afraid i’ve not had the opportunity to see much of them as yet.”
“a shame we shall have to rectify, i think.” you offer him a small smile as you press just an inch closer, finding yourself wanting to be nearer him. “perhaps i could show you the gardens on the morrow?”
“yes,” he agrees a touch too quickly, and you giggle as his cheeks turn pink. “that is to say— i should like that very much, my lady. very much indeed.”
you lapse into silence once more as the dance reaches its crescendo, and you find yourself reluctant to leave the comfort of his hands as the music pauses while the minstrels ready their next song.
jace seems to share the sentiment, it seems, as his eyes linger on your entwined hands for a long moment before returning to your face. “have i met your standards enough for another dance, then?”
you take a moment to pretend to consider it, eyes narrowing slightly as you hum. he shuffles on his feet as he waits for your response, and you find the nervous motion far too endearing.
“i suppose so,” you concede after a moment, grinning at his smugly pleased smile as he tugs you closer.
“and what about the dance after that?” he asks lightly, something cheeky in his eyes as the music starts up again and he sweeps you along the floor.
“you should not press your luck, jace,” you say imperiously, although the effect is rather ruined by the silly smile on your face as he laughs with you.
jacaerys smirks. “my lady, since meeting you, i have felt nothing but a lucky man.”
you smother a snort, shaking your head at his unrepentant expression. “you are incorrigible.” it comes out a touch exasperated and yet far too fond.
“yes,” the prince agrees readily, a sly twinkle in his eyes. “but i think you rather enjoy it.”
your startled laugh is loud, though thankfully not so loud as to be heard over the minstrels. “perhaps.”
after that, the night is lost to flirtatious banter and dance after dance in your betrothed’s arms as a seed of affection is planted deep in your heart. and when you wake in the morning after dreaming of nothing but jace’s lips and eyes and words, you can think only one thought;
gods, i am in so much trouble.
Tumblr media
time passes in a slow trickle of syrupy summer heat.
as the days go by, you find yourself spending more and more time in jace’s company. you’re always chaperoned, of course, a household guard following at a respectful distance wherever the two of you choose to roam. you find the whole thing a touch ridiculous; jace is to be your husband. it’s hardly like spending time together alone would be a significant scandal in light of your impending marriage, but your father insists there will be no doubts about your honour before the marriage actually takes place and so ser dickon is assigned as your reluctant shadow.
the date of the wedding itself remains unset as you and jace start to know one another. your father wishes for the marriage to wait until the war is done – a last-ditch chance to keep his options open, perhaps. Or, if you are feeling generous, a way to try and keep you safe from the greens when war inevitably rages. jace’s mother wishes the marriage to happen as soon as can be arranged – a way to try and ensure further heirs with the uncertainty of war looming, you assume.
you find yourself hoping the queen’s will wins the day as time creeps on. jace becomes ever dearer to you the more you learn about him, and soon you think of your impending marriage with nothing but hope and warm desire.
because oh, how you want him. from the first moment you’d laid eyes upon him you’d been attracted to him, but the more you get to know him, the more your heart opens to him – the more you ache for him. for his mouth on yours, his fingertips on your skin, his voice in your ear. if you were a less reckless woman, a little less shameless, you’d be embarrassed of how easily you think of him in your moments apart.
but late at night when the candles burn low and you are alone in your bed, there is no shame to be found, only the wildness of your wolfs blood and liquid heat as your hand drifts between your legs and you find completion with your betrothed’s name on your lips.
beyond the desire, though, is a slow blooming affection. it feels like every time you learn something new about him or share a new experience together, another petal of tenderness unfurls in your chest. when your father had first told you about your betrothal, you’d not dared to hope for more than civility with your husband-to-be, but now you find yourself harbouring deep fondness on top of steadily burning desire, and you look to your future as his wife with little else but excitement.
you’re not sure if jace feels the same. you don’t doubt he desires you; his flirtation and the weight of his gaze on your form is too frequent a thing for you to think otherwise. but desire is not the same as affection, and though you hope desperately that the way he always seeks your presence whenever he steps into a room means what you want it to mean, you can’t be sure.
after a week passes, you both start to chafe at the relentless presence of ser dickon. it feels like every time you so much as think about inching closer to jacaerys, ser dickon is there with his stern glare of disapproval. and so, when one morning jace suggests taking you to meet his dragon, alone, you are quick to agree.
you leave your guard long behind at jace’s instruction; he doesn’t want vermax crowded with strangers, he explains, but you personally think he seems a little too gleeful at the idea of being alone with you for that to be sole reason behind his insistence ser dickon stays far away. you don’t say anything since you’re equally pleased to finally be spending some time with your betrothed without feeling others curious eyes on you.
your excitement starts to waver, however, as you and jace get closer to his dragon. you’ve only seen vermax from a distance before this, and though it perhaps shouldn’t the size of him startles you. he’s just so large and fierce looking, the sharp spines on his back catching your eye. the beast yawns as you slow to a stop, jace sending you a quick smile before he continues on to greet his dragon with fondness, and the glimpse into vermax’s open maw – gods, there as so many teeth – has your palms starting to sweat.
jace stands beside his dragon, murmuring soothing words in high valyrian that you don’t understand as his hand smooths along his snout. your heart races in your chest, nerves making your hands shake when faced with this great beast. you curse your reckless curiosity, your northern stubbornness that makes it impossible for you to refuse a challenge. you have no idea how jace can look so at ease, the line of his shoulders relaxed and the slightest smile on his face as he talks to his winged steed, but there he stands.
“you can come closer now.” he turns to you, brown eyes shining with excitement and, yes, a hint of challenge.
he expects you to back out, you think, and that realisation has you straightening your spine and pressing your lips together. you twist your fingers in your skirts to hide the way they tremble as you step cautiously forward, eyes darting from jace to vermax and back. when you’re within touching distance of the velaryon prince, he reaches for your hand. the shock of his bare skin against yours arrests you for a moment, the slide of calloused fingers around your wrist startling in how easily it sparks desire in you.
you’re so distracted by the feel of him that you don’t realise until it’s too late that jace has tugged you closer, guiding your hand until it’s pressed to vermax’s scales, and then you’re too busy being surprised by how soft they feel to be annoyed that he’s so easily coaxed you into this position.
you still as the dragon rumbles, swallowing thickly as your fingers twitch against green scales. he blinks lazily at you, an alien intellect gleaming there as he seems to consider you for a long moment, and as you blink back at him some of the fear in your chest shakes loose.
because this is not just some beast, you realise. this is fire and blood and magic made flesh. there is life and intelligence in vermax’s eyes, not one you recognise but one you immediately respect. being this close to the dragon is a heady rush of awe and adrenaline; the knowledge that vermax could so easily harm you at any moment but is choosing not to because he trusts his rider. it’s staggering and wonderful and beside you jace is beaming, eyes shining with happiness at seeing you greet his draconic companion, and you are helplessly, hopelessly, wholly overwhelmed by your affection, your desire, by jace.
you kiss him.
it’s barely a kiss, more a breathless press of your mouth against his, and he startles at the sensation even as his arm loops around your waist. you break apart for the barest moment, nose sliding against his as you tilt your head, and jacaerys sighs out your name with heavy relief before he captures your mouth once more.
you’ve been kissed before, so you know the mechanics of it, but it’s never been like this. his lips move smoothly against yours as his hand flexes on your waist, drawing you closer until your chest is pressed against his. your hand tangles in his hair, fingers twisting in the soft curls and he moans with it, hand dragging up your back to cradle the back of your head tenderly as his tongue sweeps over your lips.
the gentle pressure of it has you gasping and he takes the opportunity immediately, tongue sliding against yours as heat pools in your core. your thoughts tumble wildly, incoherent as you can think of nothing but of how desperately you want more. the taste – the smell – the feel of him is drowning everything out that isn’t jace and you cannot resist it, do not even want to.
you want to kiss him forever, want his hand in your hair and his tongue in your mouth for always. you think he might even let you with how relentless he is, barely giving you a moments pause to catch your breath before consuming you in another desperate kiss.
you finally part only when vermax grumbles, cheeks blazing with heat as you step out of jace’s arms. jace murmurs lowly to his dragon in valyrian, and he nudges his great snout against jace’s shoulder in response before stepping away and curling down into the long grass to sleep. you take the moment to properly catch your breath again, hand pressing to your heaving chest in an effort to soothe your racing heart.
when you peek up at jace from beneath your lashes, you flush deeply at the sight of him. his curls are a mess, his lips swollen and cheeks pink beneath his tan. he looks almost debauched, and it sends a rush of desire through you. you suddenly can think of nothing other than him looking like this only flusher and skin glistening with sweat and in your bed.
the thought startles you into dropping your gaze to your feet, and you shuffle uncertainly. you feel – unsettled. you don’t think there’s anything wrong with sharing a kiss with your betrothed, and yet something like guilt curdles in your stomach as you worry at your bottom lip. you had kissed him. for all that he’d kissed you back, you worry that now he will think differently of you. think worse of you.
a knuckle tucks under your chin, then, lifting your face so that you meet jace’s eyes. you feel small and strangely vulnerable in the aftermath of your kiss, like you have somehow shown him something you never intended to, and the urge to shy away remains. but you are not a winter rose for nothing and so you tuck the doubt away as jace runs his thumb soothingly along the line of your jaw.
“i have been thinking of doing that since the moment you first smiled at me,” he confesses, a hint of shyness in the quirk of his lips even as he stares steadily into your eyes.
“oh.” you blink at him once in surprise, the uneasiness in you finally settling at the fondness in his gaze. “oh. that’s— good.” you curse yourself for your lack of wit in this moment as jace snickers.  “i-i mean, i’m glad that it was not… unwelcome.”
your betrothed looks at you with deep affection, then, cupping your cheek and ducking down to press a fleeting, butterfly-soft kiss to your mouth before reluctantly parting from you. “it was most welcome, my lady. most welcome, indeed.” his eyes sparkle with mirth. “i find myself looking forward to the next time you greet vermax, if this is the kind of response such a thing garners.”
“jace!” you narrow your eyes at him in pretend annoyance, even as you smother a giggle with your fingers. “you should not expect me to indulge in such desires again, then, if you persist in being so smug about it.”
his laugh warms you as the two of you fall into easy banter, leaving vermax to his rest and returning to the ever-watchful ser dickon, and all the while all you can think of is how much you cannot wait to kiss him again.
Tumblr media
as the air cools with the dying light of day, you lead jace to the gardens.
in the week since your first kiss, jace has oft tugged you into shadowy corners for more kisses any chance he’s had. his desire for you is matched only by your own for him, and as your confidence in your mutual attraction has grown, you have been equally as likely to pull him into a dark alcove to trade sweet words and sweet kisses in secret.
it’s thrilling and exciting and wonderful, but as the week passes you find a growing doubt whispering in the back of your mind.
while you cannot doubt jace desires you, not when he is so relentless in chasing after your smiling mouth, neither of you breathe a word of any feeling between you beyond attraction. perhaps it is reckless of you, foolhardy to fall for him so quickly – but then you are your parent’s daughter, all wolfs blood and deep roots, and you know no other way of being than this.
so you take him to the gardens as the moon rises in the sky, sneak past the night guards and out into the fresh air. you guide him through the blooming flowers and swaying trees, stopping along the while when the fancy takes one of you to stop and examine an interesting bloom or inhale a sweet scent. at least three times he stops you to slot his mouth against yours, to swallow your breathless giggling with feverish kisses, and each time he does it takes longer and longer for you to disentangle yourselves from each other.
eventually, with swollen lips and mussed hair, the two of you reach the winter roses. your effervescent mood becomes sombre as the moon shines on the blue flowers, turning the petals almost silver, and jace seems to recognise the change in atmosphere, a seriousness overtaking him as he watches you approach the flowers.
“my mother planted the first of these roses,” you tell jace as you kneel at the edge of the flowerbed, uncaring of the risk of dirt on your dress as you brush fingers over the pale blue petals tenderly. “winter roses, they are, from the north. from winterfell. she was born a stark, you see, and when she was betrothed to my father the only thing she asked was to be able to bring a few blooms from the glass gardens. she used to call me her little winter rose when i was a child, and she would bring me here and show me how to tend to them.”
jace kneels beside you, glancing at the side of your face before turning to look curiously at the blue flowers. “they’re beautiful,” he tells you sincerely.
“i’ve always thought so, too,” you agree almost absently, stroking the petals in an effort to calm your racing heart. “everyone told my mother she’d never be able to get them to grow so far south. they’re very rare, you see, and need very particular conditions.” your lips quirk up into a fond smile. “but my mother, for all that she became a tyrell, was always a stark at heart. stubborn, you know. and now look at them, thriving.”
you gesture out at the carefully tended rows of roses. “nobody else comes here, now, other than the gardeners and me. i think… i think my father finds it too hard, being here. it makes him miss her too much. so i come here when i need to be alone. or when i wish to be reminded of her. it's the one place in the world where i feel i can be wholly myself, without any pretence or worry.”
jace’s gaze is fixed on you, now, eyes almost black in the faint moonlight as understanding dawns on him. “thank you for bringing me here.”
you nod once, climbing back to your feet, and jace follows you. he watches you so intently, like he’s afraid that you might disappear if he dares to look away. you feel a little like you might, feel tenuous and vulnerable and a breath away from cracking your chest open.
“i’ve never brought anyone else here,” you confess quietly, flexing your fingers with nerves as jace’s lips part in surprise. “i wished… i wished to share this with you. to share who i am, myself, with you, i suppose.” you laugh a little self-deprecatingly. “however pretentious that sounds.”
“it doesn’t,” jace denies immediately. you sense he wants to say more, but he seems to understand that you’re building to saying something yourself, and so he stays quiet, expression earnest and open and fond as he gazes down at you.
“i know it’s perhaps too soon – we have only known each other a few weeks. but i… when i first found out we were betrothed, i was so scared. i worried you would be some arrogant princeling, and i dared not hope for anything more than civility between us. i’ve always known i would not marry for love, but i did not ever consider i would marry a man i had never met.”
you pause for long enough to suck in a breath, feeling a little like the floodgates have opened and you simply can’t stop speaking, can’t stop the feeling pouring freely from you. “and then i met you, and you were so unlike anything i’d expected. i know we still have so much more to learn about each other, and i know that things are— complicated, with the war, and that our marriage may be a ways off yet, but still— i find myself feeling for you, and i cannot hide it anymore. i don’t wish to hide it from you anymore.”
you let the open affection in his face buoy you as you steel yourself, pressing your shoulders back in a mimicry of confidence. “i wanted to show you this part of me, this place, because i….” you hesitate for a breathless moment, biting your lip, before gathering every scrap of courage you possess and diving in headfirst. “i am falling in love with you, jacaerys.”
you inhale the sweet scent of the pale blue petals deeply, let the familiar scent soothe you as jace stares at you with wide eyes. the winter roses are something that, until now, have been so uniquely yours. as you’d told jace, none other than you and the gardeners comes to this corner of the gardens now. the staff that tend so carefully to the flowers know to leave you well enough alone if they stumble across you, skirts splayed on the ground and fingers diligently caring for the roses. you’ve never even brought your sweet little brother, though you can admit that’s for practicality as much as anything else – his childish energy is a bit too boisterous for these delicate blooms.
bringing jace here, bringing him here to confess the deepening affection you harbour for him, feels raw. feels like you’re tearing your heart out of your chest and offering it up to him for perusal, hands bloody and soul bare. feels like saying ‘this is all that i am and all that i have been and all i will ever be and i hope, i hope, i hope it’s enough.’
jace finally, finally speaks, sighs your name, soft and sweet and tender, and hope blooms in your chest.
“oh, my sweet lady,” he murmurs, crowding into your space as he cups your cheek, and the smell of woodsmoke and dragon and jace floods your senses. “i am falling so unbelievably in love with you. only, it does not feel so much like falling as it is like choosing it, like walking into love with you with my eyes wide open and seeing nothing but you.”
it's almost unbearable, the blazing heat of his gaze as he presses his forehead against yours, and it makes you tremble as your hands clutch as his elbows in an effort to ground yourself to this moment, to him. “our betrothal was decided for us without care or consideration for our own desires,” he says, lips brushing against your own with every whispered word. “i know that as well as you, but i need you to know that if i had the choice i would choose this. i would choose you, your stubborn heart, your fierce spirit, your gracious soul.”
his hand slides from your cheek to your hair, holds you so tenderly like you are something precious, and it steals your breath from your lungs as you revel in his unbridled affection. “i care not when we marry, if we marry, in truth, because in my heart you are already mine just as i am already yours.”
he kisses you, then, a desperate and greedy thing, as if he can no longer restrain himself from devouring you whole. and you are just as needy, hands fisting in his doublet as you press yourself against him and somehow finding yourself wishing to be closer still. the world narrows down to him and him only; his mouth, his hands, his hair. you can think of nothing else, and do not wish to, because in this moment you are wholly yourself and he is wholly himself and it’s enough, it’s wonderful and delicate and it’s enough.
and, there beneath the moonlight and amongst the winter roses, deep and enduring affection, the kind of love the bards sing songs about, takes root.

finally started T today! was really nervous about injecting myself since ive never done it before, and despite being as thorough as possible i always have this fear that im fucking up, but the videos that the doctor sent me were comprehensive an thorough, and it just walks you right through it. there definitely was that mental block of “oh shit im putting this in my body and pushing it in,” but considering the other stuff I’ve done to myself i was able to just do it. plus, it didn’t hurt or sting as much as i thought it would, so it’s all good, and I’ve finally started my medical transition!

Jurian and Vassa took the attic and became scarce, but when night and day slid into one another you still heard her painful screams, muffled as they were by the magic that encased their room. It was a feeling more than anything else. A tension that gripped the House until it seemed to be sobbing. At sunrise and sunset without fail, Vassa’s body broke and rearranged itself, flesh turning to feathers and feathers to flesh. Before it had been a painless process where her body came and went in its various forms, but no longer. Now she felt everything alongside an itch deep within her bones that couldn’t be satiated by food or drink or anything else.
Go to the lake! Her body screamed. Go to Koschei! And then punished her when she didn’t comply. Like a beast had sunk its claws into her flesh, its waiting mouth only inches away from snapping. To stay away was a slow, agonizing march to death. To move close would be swift, but final, and somehow Vassa knew that if she gave into Koschei’s call, she would be lost forever.
You lingered at the base of the attic's staircase, your bare feet sinking into the soft rug until the sounds of cracking bones finally ceased. Three pairs of feet shuffled above your head and you heard Jurian’s faint whispers like a gentle push of air. When the door opened and Lucien emerged, you saw Vassa crumpled on the floor, now a bone-thin woman with dull, coppery hair and skin ravaged by scratches and pockmarks.
“Shhhh. It’s ok.” Jurian whispered, encasing her in his arms.
“I can’t,” her voice trembled. “It hurts. I-I-I’m burning.”
“Y/n?” Lucien frowned. The door slammed shut with a bang and you jumped backwards. You clutched a velvet pouch close to your chest and then slowly held it out to Lucien.
“It’s for Vassa,” you explained, trying to keep your eyes on his mismatched ones — one russet as river stones, one gold like the sun. He opened the bag and stared in confusion at the fine, white powder within, giving it a tentative sniff. “Morphine. Humans use it for pain.”
“I know of it.” Lucien’s frown deepened. “They get addicted. Take too much and they die.”
“She’s already addicted. That’s what’s happening isn’t it? Koschei’s drawing his power away to get her to return to the lake and every day that passes she’s dying.” Lucien tightened his fists around the bag, still skeptical. Vassa had endured enough. He didn’t want to have her endure this either. “The bag is enchanted and will never allow her to draw too much. Just enough to calm her hunger. If we’re lucky it might help her sleep too.”
Lucien stood there, clenching and unclenching his fists from around the gold drawstring, waiting for Vassa’s cries to cease. But they never did. And there you were standing in front of him, unwavering and expectant. There was a glimmer of stubbornness in your gaze. A sign of the hours you’d spent researching Vassa’s condition and acquiring the strange human drug, and your disapproval if Lucien didn’t accept it.
“Thank you, Y/n,” he whispered, “But please go. Vassa hates for anyone to see her like this. Even Jurian and I.”
You swallowed thickly and nodded, disappearing down the stairs as quickly as you could. The next morning when the sun rose over the mountains and Vassa changed, you heard only the House’s usual breathings.
The House buckled under the weight of the Inner Circle’s secrets and the sheer volume of history that had occurred within its walls and between its occupants. It utilized its magic in clever ways — your door opened with a creak that wasn’t there before so that Azriel would always hear your comings and goings. Lucien would suddenly find his door locked and the curtains drawn on the days when Helion made surprise visits to see Y/n. Nyx would find himself ushered around by a broomstick that swatted his ankles when the adults were discussing private matters. It was all a great deal of work.
So it was a relief when Rhys and Feyre quietly moved their children to the House of Wind with Nesta and Cassian, and when Mor and Emerie took the final steps in emptying their rooms and went to hide out in their city apartment. It was even more of a relief when Helion returned to the Day Court, but not before throwing a heavy threat in Azriel’s face that if he should ever hurt his daughter again in any way, shape, or form, he’d strip the wings off his back.
Meals at the House were tense, quiet affairs, something not even Feyre, Elain, and Nesta’s sisterly conversations or Cassian’s light-hearted humor could ease. Elain stayed close to Lucien’s side, one hand always on his arm or resting against his back or brushing against his, but that didn’t erase what the Blood Duel had done to his trust in Elain. He was kind, but guarded, especially when Azriel was in the room. But it was more than she could ask for because it was more than she’d ever given him in the beginning.
You and Azriel were worse off.
You were speaking once more, but your words were always laced with a bit of apprehension and Azriel’s were always filled with sorrowful hope. Conversations were dull, short, and didn’t even begin to brush the surface of all the things you should have been talking about. You were terrified not of the Shadowsinger, but of his opinion of you. Did he want you so he could fix you? So that he could feel needed? So that you could be another one in a list of females he burned through?
It never truly seemed like that was the case, but you also didn’t trust yourself when it came to your emotions. You had told him once that you couldn’t imagine having a love like Feyre and Rhysand’s, or Nesta and Cassian’s, and you still meant it. You were a matchstick and he was flint, and you didn’t know what would happen to you after he had lit you aflame. For all you knew, you were already burning and this wonderful thing you’d had with Azriel would live and die with nothing more than the memory of an embrace in Rhysand’s office to show for it.
But oh how you ached to touch him again. To hold him like you had before and to have him return the gesture just as strongly.
You stiffened when Azriel’s hand brushed your arm, warmth bursting out from the point of contact.
“I’m sorry.” Azriel whispered, and he was talking about more than the wine he spilled when he reached over the table.
You spared him a glance, the first real look you’d given him in two weeks. The flagon slipped from his hands, and if it weren’t for his shadows catching it an inch above the floor, the room would have been doused in burgundy red.
“Does Lucien know?”
Rhysand looked up from his papers. Missives from the Darkbringer army and Illyrian troops up north clogged his desk, all begrudgingly accepting his orders to prepare for what could amount to another lengthy war. Letters thrown back and forth between the seven courts added to the chaos, all of them war-weary and desperate for a path that wouldn’t lead to bloodshed.
You took up the center of his room and stood so quietly he hadn’t even noticed you until you spoke. It had been eating away at you for days since Lucien’s arrival. Every time you two saw one another or spoke, you tried to scrounge for clues that would reveal whether he knew he was Helion’s son and whether he might suspect you were Helion’s daughter as well. The other members of the Inner Circle had been tight-lipped about that secret, a skill you now knew they all possessed with alarming dexterity.
“Does Lucien know he’s Helion’s son?”
Rhysand slumped back in his chair, rubbing his temples with one careful hand. Finally he said, “Yes.”
The answer knocked the breath from your lungs. You’d been expecting the opposite. “Does he… does he know about me?”
Rhys sighed and shook his head. You didn’t know whether to be disappointed or relieved.
“How long has he known?”
“Six years. Feyre was the one to tell him. She was actually the first of us to recognize the similarity, believe it or not. But then, no one ever dared to give weight to the rumors surrounding Helion and Aurelia Vanserra while Beron was alive.”
You rocked back and forth on your feet, breath shaking as it entered your body. “Six years. Six years and you never thought to tell Helion that he has a son? I thought you two were friends?”
Rhysand tensed. “I’m Lucien’s friend as well and he begged us to never speak of it - to live as though we’d never learned that secret. And I keep my secrets. We all do.”
“You and your family have made that very clear in the time that I’ve been here.”
“If you mean Azriel—”
“Don’t play dumb, Rhys, you know I’m talking about him.” Tears pricked at your eyes, adding to the humiliation that had coated you like a film ever since you’d seen his memories about Mor, Elain, and Gwyn. “I don’t—” You swallowed thickly, “I can imagine how you must have all been whispering behind my back about Azriel and I. How you must have found it so pathetic the way he charmed me when I was really his fourth choice.”
“That’s not true.” Was what Rhysand was going to say. But he didn’t need to. Azriel said it for him.
Your face lost all color, any bravado melting away at the feeling of Azriel’s shadows wrapping around your ankles like ribbons of silk. You could feel him in the room and that quiet darkness he carried around with him as inherently as if it were stitched onto his body.
Azriel was shaking. Shaking. With anger, turmoil, or grief — you couldn’t name it. All you knew is that one moment you were standing in Rhysand’s office, all velvet upholstery and suave, expensive taste, and the next you were in Azriel’s room.
Everything smelled like mountain air. Maybe it was the gothic windows that stretched into the vaulted ceilings, stained glass opening out onto a personal balcony with deep blue curtains fluttering in the breeze. But you were sure that even with the windows barred it would smell the same. It would smell like Azriel. If you threw open his wardrobe you’d come face to face with a wall of black. Lots and lots of black. Black suits he hardly ever wore. Black fighting leathers. Black leather jackets for everyday. Black trousers. Black boots on the floor. Very practical. Very Azriel.
If you dug through his dresser drawers you’d find black boxers and socks to match and no shortage of knives and daggers hidden behind wooden planks or in leather sleeves nailed to the bottom of his desk. But at first glance you only saw three weapons in plain view — Truth Teller, blade down and stuck in the wood grain of his desk beside a pile of reports, and two obsidian blades hanging from the wall beside his midnight blue bed in the shape of an “x.”
The smell — Azriel’s smell — calmed you, at least up to the point where you turned to find him standing less than six inches away, hazel eyes boring into yours. Then your pulse skyrocketed. You were certain that if he only looked down to your heart he’d see it pounding against your chest like a drum skin ready to burst.
“That’s not true,” he repeated earnestly. “And don’t you dare believe it. Not even for a second.”
His eyes jumped back and forth between yours and before he could stop himself, his hands were grasping yours in a gentle hold. The leather gloves were soft and supple beneath your fingertips. You wanted to rip them off so you could feel his scarred hands again.
“You weren’t meant to hear that,” you whispered, suddenly feeling small. That angry humiliation went up in a puff of smoke and left you shy and uncertain.
Azriel gripped your hands a little tighter and you watched as tendrils of shadow worked their way up your arms and got lost in your hair. “But I did,” he said breathlessly, “And I need you to know that it’s not true.”
“Azriel—”
“I know—” he was shaking his head, “I know what Helion said and I won’t lie and tell you that I’m perfect or that I’ve made any smart decisions about love in the past — I’ve not make a single one — but… but Y/n you’re not a fourth choice. You’re not something broken that I’m trying to fix or some fantasy I’ve fallen for.”
His hands shook and despite the gloves his hands still felt sticky and wet. Slick with your blood. The burning scent of iron in his nose.
“You’re the most real thing in the world to me. You’re—” You’re my mate. The words crawled up his throat like acid and it just felt wrong. He would say those words to you. He would. But not now. Not like this. He came up with something else. “Y/n, please tell me you believe me. Please.”
And there you were. Falling all over again. Burning like a matchstick on fire. The flames slowly eating away at you bit by bit. You wondered what would happen when you finally hit the ground, or when you ran out of length. Would he still hold you like this? Would you still feel real to him?
“How am I meant to know, Azriel?”
You’d always been good at books. You knew the ways in which these stories worked where the themes and plot points had been preordained and written with the purpose of being tied up in a neat package by the final page. People were very different. They were unpredictable and chaotic and they could lie through the skin of their teeth and believe they were telling the truth. And that was the problem wasn’t it? Because you still believed every word that came out of Azriel’s mouth, and his hands still felt like they were keeping you tethered to this earth when sometimes your powers and the memories that came with them made you feel like a whisper on the wind. Weightless and at the mercy of something you couldn’t control.
“You can trust me. You can know for yourself.”
He pressed your hand against his cheek and you wanted to cry at the faint pricks of stubble beneath your skin and the sharp curve of his jaw.
He wanted you to use your power on him. He wanted you to learn all the ways he wanted you. All the ways he loved you.
But you couldn’t do it.
Azriel panicked when you remained silent, staring at him and at his hands like you were frightened. All at once he was back on the streets of Velaris, cobblestones shaving away at the skin of his palms as he dragged his way up to you inch by bloody inch, fighting against a body that was too broken to move.
He couldn’t remember what it felt like when he’d stabbed you through the chest and dropped you on the street. Everything between the moment he saw Andrian’s clear-cut eyes to the moment he saw Rhysand’s horrified gaze was fuzzy and dark. But that made it worse because now in his nightmares he could imagine all the ways he’d hurt you, each version teeming with the same level of horror and possibility as the previous one.
He let you go and hated himself when you stepped back, your hand slipping away.
“I won’t… I won’t hurt you again, Y/n. I swear on my life. I’ll-I’ll make a bargain, I don’t care. I would sooner die than let something like that happen again.”
I don’t know what I’d do with that kind of love. If I’d be able to handle it. It might be too much for me.
“Y/n, please.”
I am not broken. But I am afraid.
You fled from his bedroom.
The air had a bite to it now with winter descending. The snow line on the mountains dipped lower and lower each day, creeping like ivy down a brick wall.
Elain never wore gloves. Not when she was gardening. It was something she and Ione had in common. She liked the feeling of her strong hands, the callouses on her palms and fingers that she’d earned all on her own. She grunted, slamming her shovel into the soil and feeling the microscopic chips of ice give way when she kicked down on the blade. It was too late in the season to be planting tulip bulbs. If she’d been in Velaris she would have done this four weeks ago. But it was alright with her. She knew the value of hard work, and she had enough hope for the future to believe that even though she was late, she’d have something beautiful to call hers come springtime.
“It’s time for that conversation I was telling you about,” she said cryptically, as was her way.
Lucien dropped the final basket beside where Elain now knelt in the dirt, her pale pink dress dirtied and littered with her own handprints. The brown bulbs rolled around like oversized chestnuts, the kind that he’d be roasting over a fire right now if he were still in Autumn Court. Instead he was here, lingering in a Court that had never felt like home. Then again… he’d never felt at home in Autumn, Spring, or the Human Lands either.
He straightened up and wiped his hands clean on his trousers, golden and russet eyes trailing over the River House’s grounds for this mysterious person he was meant to speak to.
There.
The faint swishing of black robes behind a dark green topiary tree. He should have known Elain had been talking about you.
You cracked your knuckles and rehearsed the words you’d scribbled out earlier that day and then set to fire in a maddening loop. You’d been restless with the truth of Lucien’s parentage and you couldn’t believe that the others had held their tongues so readily. As it was, without Azriel’s company to help quiet your mind, you’d dug into this new piece of information like a starving animal and couldn’t let go.
Was this a good time to tell him? Would there ever be a good time to tell him? You had no idea.
Somewhere in the attic, you knew Vassa was itching to take to the skies like the burning comet she was. Every night she shivered in Jurian’s arms, the morphine barely able to take the edge off the humming in her bones, and every morning she let him lock her away in her cage. It was getting worse and worse trying to keep her from succumbing to Koschei’s influence. Even now you thought you could hear her keen cries whistling from the attic like ten thousand arrows launched into the air.
Somewhere else, in a secret, hidden place you knew nothing about, Andrian had finally been imprisoned. Andrian with his bent neck and silver, candy-floss hair and bloody little hands.
You shivered and jumped back five feet when Lucien called your name, kind eyes narrowed in concern. His shirt was loose and open and the sweat on his body rose like mist off his skin. He was his mother’s son first, Helion’s child second, and fire still ran through his veins. The chill did not touch him.
He tipped his head to the side, red hair spilling out from the messy way he’d tied it up and away from his face. A brutal scar ran through his eye like a fissure, starting at the center of his brow before clawing its way down his jaw like a lightning strike frozen in time. But for all the cruelty he’d been dealt with in life, his eyes were gentle, even the mechanical one that whirred and flashed in the sun.
They were even kinder when he looked at you. You with your inquisitive gaze and curious nature, like a stray cat that couldn’t help but linger too long at doorways. One foot inside, one foot ready to run and hide. He’d caught you watching him at dinners, and he’d catch himself staring when you walked around the house with a book in your hand, so utterly absorbed that you would bump against doorways and bang your hips against sharp corners.
“Elain told me about you. Did you know that?”
You blinked in surprise. “What did she say?”
“Elain… Elain doesn’t always speak clearly. Much of what comes out of her mouth can feel eerie or discomforting. But, she told me before we left for the Night Court that I would be happy I came. That I would never regret the things I learned on my trip.” He tilted his head even further, looking more and more like a fox with each turn of his face. “And she mentioned a bird. A bird with ink-tipped wings and eyes like a crow.”
You flexed your fingers, well aware that the tips were smudged with ink, the nails bitten down to the quick.
“Someone clever and cautious who’d been hidden away their whole life and needed to see the sun.”
You felt stripped bare. That strange vulnerability that comes with being summed up in so few words had you feeling airy. Like one sentence could be enough to carry the weight of the three centuries you’d lived and never buckle.
“I know you’re Helion’s son. I recognized it the moment I saw you.”
Lucien stepped back, scarlet brows shooting up into his hair with alarm.
You hesitated, then continued on cautiously. “I recognized it because I would know my father’s face anywhere.”

*also this is not proof read - I’m too embarrassed to go through it again. So please let me know if there are any mistakes!*
꘎♡━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ♡꘎
A flowing river of blue, the smell off wildflowers blowing in the breeze, and the chirping of birds flying overhead. And then… pain? No longer were you in a calm meadow garden, outside of a homey cottage. Instead you are sat alone, inside of your art room, suddenly aware of the pain in your legs.
You had been so immersed in finishing the last details of the painting you had started weeks ago, that you had lost track of time. You had been staring at it so intently, trying to look for flaws to perfect, it had almost felt like you were there. You hadn’t been at home just then, you were transported into your work of art relaxed and undisturbed within the canvas.
It was light outside when you began working. You remembered hearing the sound of people strolling the streets and children playing in the nearby park. Now however, the sky was beginning to darken and the streets were almost silent, other than the sound of the odd car driving past. The outside world was proof enough that you had been sat too long, without a single break to stretch your legs.
Had you not been so wrapped up in your painting, you would’ve remembered to take a walk or go for a snack to prevent the intense pain you were currently feeling. Aaron always reminded you to do so.
Speaking of Aaron, you desperately hoped he would be home soon, you knew the pain would only intensify once you started moving around, and you wanted nothing more than for him to be there to comfort you. He was so wonderfully helpful when you needed comfort. He was your rock and no matter how you were feeling, he always managed to make you feel somewhat better. He had researched the best ways to reduce the pain you often felt and despite how tired he may be from work, he always made the time to make sure you were safe and content.
Stretching out a paint speckled arm, you reached for your phone prepared to text Aaron to see if he would be home soon, he was due back to his evening. But once again he proved to be the best husband you could ask for, as not even a second after grabbing your phone, you heard the front door opening. Perfect timing.
The sound of the door shutting quietly, a bag hitting the ground and the locks of the door being set, you knew it was your husband finally back from the week long case he had been on with the team.
“Sweetheart?” his voice was soft and carried some tiredness with it, you knew this had been a tough case for him and immediately felt guilty for wanting his comfort and attention when he had only just returned home. You knew how hard he worked and didn’t want to burden him. So instead you decided you would greet your husband and try your best to hide the pain as not to worry him. Though with a skilled profiler as a husband, you knew this was wishful thinking.
When you went to stand, you hissed as an intense pain shot through your knees, causing them to buckle. Luckily, Aaron had come in search of you, having not heard a reply when he called out for you. Just as you were about to fall back to the ground you had previously been occupying, you immediately felt arms wrap around your frame, engulfed in the scent of your husbands cologne.
“Hey, take your time. It’s ok let me help you”. There goes your plan of hiding the pain. Aaron immediately knew what was wrong and slowly supported you to stand. Once you were fully elevated he wrapped his arms around you in a tight embrace, holding most of your weight off of your knees. Despite the fact that Aaron repeatedly told you to stretch your legs to prevent this from happening, he wasn’t going to lecture you. You were in pain and he just wanted to bring you comfort, so he didn’t say anything. He just held you close and softly began to play with your hair the way that you liked.
The mixture of love you felt from Aaron’s care and the pain you were feeling in your legs caused tears to appear in your waterline. Aaron immediately shifted into gear, wanting to reduce the pain as much as possible, “how about we take a little walk hm? Just around the apartment. Give your legs a chance to stretch and I’ll tell you all about how much I missed you while I was gone?” You smiled and nodded in response through the tears. He always knew how to make you feel better.
Aaron didn’t rush you, he didn’t leave you to take care of yourself. Instead he lovingly wrapped an arm around your waist and let you set the pace as you walked out of your art room and into the kitchen. Though this caused the pain to intensify, you knew that in the long run it would help. So as you grimaced and slowly treaded through the pain, Aaron kept to his word and informed you of how awful it was to be away from you for the week. You laughed as he mentioned that he was caught looking at the picture of you he kept in his wallet by Morgan and he was teased by the team for the rest of the case. He told you that instead of ordering his original coffee from the coffee shop near the precinct, he ordered your favourite drink. It was too sweet for him and didn’t wake him up as much as he liked, but it made him feel closer to you.
As you approached the front door on your walk, near where he’d left his bag, Aaron reached inside and hid his hands behind his back, something grasped tightly in his fist.
“After we wrapped up the case I saw these in a store window and they made me think of you. One for me and one for you”. Aaron brought his hand in front of you both and opened it, revealing 2 key rings that looked to be a matching pair. One of them was a key shape, and the other a locket. You knew these weren’t the kind of thing Aaron cared for at all, in fact he found them extremely cheesy. But he knew you loved small things like this and just wanted to see you smile.
And smile you did. You looked from the keyrings in Aaron’s large hand, then back up to his eyes, a large grin on your face. You couldn’t believe the reputation Aaron had at work as the stoic grouchy boss. How could anyone describe this man (who was currently staring at you with a soft smile on his face and some tacky keyrings in his hand) as anything other than perfect? That’s what he was to you. Perfect. He was always thinking of you and you could not be more grateful.
“I love them” you whispered, Aaron didn’t respond, he just looked lovingly into your eyes and continued along with you on your walk to the living room. At this point, whilst your legs still ached, you found it hard not to focus on how happy you were with your partner. It was hard not to be happy around him. Your tears had eased up and had instead been replaced with a loving stare directed at your husband.
Once you had done a lap of the apartment, Aaron suggested a bath together to soothe your joints, which you quickly agreed to. He sat you on the side of the bathtub as he messed with the taps and added some bubbles, just the way you liked it. Once the bath was ready he held your hand and helped you in, slipping in himself afterwards, your back leaning against his chest. Not many words were exchanged, they didn’t need to be. You both knew exactly what you wanted to say ‘I love you so much’, ‘thank you for loving me’, ‘I’m so grateful to have you in my life’. Instead, Aaron softly hummed as he gently scrubbed away the paint from your body and placed soothing kisses along the back of your neck. You felt so safe and at home here within his arms.
Once the water began to turn cold, you and Aaron stepped out of the bathtub and he wrapped a towel around you.
“Your painting looked beautiful by the way” he whispered as you both prepared to brush your teeth and get settled for bed.
Despite being together for 7 years, he still made you feel giddy with his compliments. Turning to face him, a small thank you passed your lips. He was always so supportive of whatever hobby you picked up and loved to shower you in the compliments he believed you so deeply deserved.
The two of you soon got settled into bed and Aaron wrapped you into his arms, “how are you feeling honey? Any better?” he questioned.
Placing a soft kiss to his bare chest, you sighed in sleepy contentment before nodding your head. “You always make me feel better.”
“I just wish I was here more often for you” Aaron sighed. You knew he felt guilt about leaving you alone whilst he went away with the team, but even if he wasn’t with you, you rarely felt alone. Even at his busiest, he made time, even for something as small as an ‘I love you’ text or a ‘have a good day’ message.
“You’re perfect for me Aaron, please don’t doubt that. You’re the best thing that ever happened to me” you sleepily replied, meaning every word. He gazed at your tired face and drooping eyes and saw that you were on the verge of sleep. Aaron swore he’d never seen anything so beautiful in his life. He felt so overwhelmed with love that he felt emotional. Pulling you closer, he placed a soft goodnight kiss against your lips. “I love you sweetheart”, but you had already drifted off.
But even though you didn’t hear it, that didn’t matter. He didn’t have to say it. You knew. You’d never felt more loved in your life, Aaron loved you and he never let you forget it.

second chance [part two]
summary: feyre finally meets rhysand's favorite person.
warnings: slightly suggestive and tons of fluff.
pairings: inner circle x reader, azriel x reader
words: 2.9k
a/n: hi! so, as promised, here is part two. i hope you like it just as much as the first one. i also want to thank you guys for your support and comments, it made me really happy.
Tumblr media
the flight to the house of wind was a quick one.
feyre recently learned that she loved to fly. she loved the light of the sun on her skin, the sweet breeze on her hair, but most of all, the view.
feyre was in rhys' arms. he held her tight against his chest while she gazed at the city below her.
she would never get tired of this view or the sounds. there were children laughing and playing by the river, musicians playing melodies while some couples danced around, artists painting and people walking through the market buying fresh vegetables, flowers, among other things.
cassian was flying ahead of them, and he, too, was enjoying the view of the city of starlight.
a few minutes later, the house of wind came into sight. they made their way towards the house and landed on the balcony that was connected to the kitchen.
rhys set feyre back on the floor, and the three of them headed towards the threshold of the balcony and entered the house.
as soon as they entered the kitchen, they could hear the laughter and the voices of the inner circle through the hallway that led to the main living room.
cassian was the first to move. rhys went to follow his brother when he realized that feyre hadn't moved from her spot by the entrance of the balcony.
he turned around to approach her, and a frown made its way to his face, "what's wrong? are you ok?"
"i. . .hum. . ." feyre realized at that moment that she was nervous to meet you.
you weren't just someone.
you are rhys and cassian's little sister, azriel's best friend and probably something more.
rhys didn't mention your relationship with amren and mor while they talked about you, but she had absolutely no doubt that you were equally loved, cared, and important to them as well.
she didn't want to make a bad impression.
she didn't want to disappoint you, but more importantly, she didn't want you to dislike her.
she hadn't thought about these things before, but now that she was here, only a hallway and seconds, maybe minutes away from meeting you?
feyre couldn't help but wonder what would happen if things didn't go as well as she wanted.
what if she said something wrong and ended up hurting your feelings?
she had no doubt that amren would rip her head off if she dared to hurt you in any way.
rhys hand waved in front of her face and broke her from her worries and doubts.
she met his violet eyes and saw concern in his face.
rhys spoke before she could, "are you ok? i just called you three times, and you didn't even move."
"i'm fine," feyre said with a weak smile that didn't reach her eyes.
the look on Rhys face told her that she didn't convince him.
"are you sure? you look a little pale, and your heartbeat is really fast." rhys insisted, trying to make her talk to him so he could help her with whatever was troubling her.
feyre bit her lower lip, something she had always done when she was nervous since she was a child.
"i think. . ." feyre paused, releasing a long breath before she continued. "i'm nervous to meet y/n. what if i make a bad impression and she doesn't like me?"
rhys gaze softens at her worries, and the frown is replaced by a smile on his lips.
putting a hand on her shoulder in order to provide her a little comfort, rhys replies, "i can assure you that you have nothing to worry about. y/n is sweet and kind, funny and sometimes a little loud," rhys chuckles, earning a giggle from feyre, "she's very talkative, like really but really talkative, your only worry should be at the fact that there's a very high chance that once she starts talking with you, she'll never shut up."
feyre can't help the laughter that erupts from her, smacking his bicep. she says, "stop it."
"i'm serious! she talks a lot, she also loves to hear herself talk but," feyre laughed more and rhys joined her, a big smile on his lips "that's one of the reasons why she's such a good emissary. but seriously, y/n gets along with everyone, even Beron, believe it or not. in all the years that i have known her, she never disliked anyone."
feyre relaxed immediately, her worries and doubts completely forgotten. "how old is she, by the way? i meant to ask you that earlier, but cassian came into the room before i had the chance."
"she's 122. she's still young." rhys said with a hint of irony in his voice.
feyre chuckled, replying with the same irony. "right, young."
rhys opened his mouth to reply, but before he could, a new set of laughters sounded from down the hallway, making both of them look in the direction of the sound.
rhys turned again and met feyre's gaze, "ready?"
"yes. let's go meet the girl that gave you those." feyre mentioned while gesturing to his hand where the tooth bites lay.
rhys could only chuckle before he turned around and guided the way towards the living room where his family awaited, feyre following him.
when rhys passed the threshold to the living room, feyre stopped just for a second to give a deep breath before doing the same.
the moment she walked in, she saw you immediately.
your back was facing them. you were in the middle of your family, and you were talking with amren while pointing at a jewelry box she held in her hand.
a pair of earrings shined inside of the box.
rhys was only a few steps ahead of her when he called you by your nickname, "little star."
feyre couldn't see his face, but she didn't need to. she knew that the only thing on his features at that moment was love.
you turned your head around at the sound of your big brother's voice. "rhys!" was the only thing you managed to say before you started running in his direction.
rhys opened his arms, and you jumped into his embrace, holding him tightly around his neck while he held you back, spinning you around in the process.
rhys put you down and kissed your cheek. "i missed you."
"rhys, i have only been gone for six days," you responded with a scoff and a roll your eyes.
rhys chucked at your antics, "how was winter court?"
"cold and snowy." you answered, earning chuckles from your family at your irony. "it was good, you'll have a report on your desk tomorrow morning."
rhys nodded before asking you, "why did you return earlier? we were expecting you in only a few hours."
"because i'm amazing at my job," you said, amusement all over your face.
your family scoffed, and rhys lifted an eyebrow at you, clearly knowing there was another reason for your early arrival.
you sighed, accepting defeat, "and because kallias and viviane are newly mated, and i didn't want to be a witness of their frenzy bonding in case i ended up seeing something that i really shouldn't."
your family laughed, and it was now mor's turn to talk. "oh, you poor baby. still traumatized from walking in on cassian with that pretty nymph?"
"ugh! please don't remind me of that. i swear i had nightmares because of it," you protested.
"hey, no one told you to enter without knocking first. lesson learned, little star." cassian told you while ruffling your hair.
you swat his hand and look at him. "what are you talking about, brother? you two were in rhys office. you weren't even supposed to be there in the first place."
you turned to look at your other brother who happened to have his mouth open at the new information, obviously unknown to him. "i hope you cleaned every surface and thing you have there," you paused for a second before speaking again. "you know what? thinking better, you should just replace everything. it may be safer that way." you finished with a disgusted face.
"what?!" rhys asked with a firm voice — his high lord voice.
cassian shot you an irritating look. "dammed you, y/n. he didn't know that," your only response was an innocent smile.
rhys moved to his left in order to get an explanation from the events that occurred in his office, making feyre enter your camp of vision, and that's when you locked eyes with her.
you approached her and started the conversation.
"hi, you must be feyre. i'm y/n," you said while extending your hand to her and offering a sweet smile.
feyre grabbed your hand and shook it. "it's so nice to finally meet you."
now, with rhys out of the way, feyre was able to have a better look at you.
and Cauldron, feyre couldn't take her eyes off you.
you were beautiful. your white hair was loose and curled down to your waist, your blue eyes, and your slightly pale skin.
and then, your dress.
the dress was white and light blue, the skirt reached your feet and had a pattern in waves that reminded of snow, the sleeves went all the way to your wrists, fluffy white fur laid at the ends of your skirt and sleeves.
you looked like an angel.
"thank you," you answered with a warm smile.
it was only then that feyre realized she said that out loud.
a hint of confusion settled at your face when you asked her, "did azriel tell you to say that?"
now, it was feyre's turn to be confused. why would you think that?
"no, he didn't. why?"
"Oh, it's just. . .hum," you paused, your cheeks starting to blush a little, "that's what he calls me. it's his nickname for me."
feyre laughed. azriel was right in calling you that. "i thought your nickname was 'little star'."
you chuckled, "that's the nicknames the others use for me. except amren. she keeps calling me 'child'," you said with a roll of your eyes.
"because you are a child," amren answered you from her place next to mor while she was contemplating the earrings in the jewelry box.
rhys and cassian still arguing about the office events with azriel watching them amused.
you turned your head to her. "yeah, yeah. whatever you say, granny."
feyre stilled for a moment. thinking that amren was about to launch herself on you for what you just called her, but then she saw amren laugh with a genuine smile on her lips before returning to stare at the earrings.
feyre relaxed and joined the laughter while looking at amren's earrings.
you followed her gaze, and that's when you remembered.
"oh, right," you returned your eyes to feyre. "wait for a moment."
feyre saw you turn back around towards the couch from where you pulled a dark purple bag and a small box.
you walked to thys and extended your arm to give him the bag, "your gift," you said and planted a kiss on his cheek.
rhys thanked you for your gift, giving you a quick kiss on your forehead, and returned to argue with cassian.
you made your way to feyre, and when you reached her, you gave her the small box, "here. it's for you."
feyre accepted it, with surprise all over her face. she studied the box for a moment. it was a simple box made of wood and on top of it had a mountain with three stars above.
the insignia of the night court.
she looked at you again. "you brought me a gift?"
"of course. i couldn't just bring gifts to everyone else and not one for you," you explained with a smile.
feyre returned the smile, at your kindness, she asked with curiosity dancing in her eyes. "what is it?"
"it's a music box. to help you with your nightmares."
feyre stilled at your words, and after a few seconds, you continued "it has all of velaris' melodies. there's a few from the other courts, too, but it's mostly velaris. it''s enchanted so it can play for as long as you want or need. the melodies are soft and calm, so it will help you sleep and keep the nightmares away."
feyre had no words. she didn't know what to say.
just a few minutes ago, she was worrying about you not liking her, but here you are, offering her one of the best gifts she has ever received.
those worries and doubts seemed silly now. her eyes darted to the music box again, but she looked up at the sound of your voice.
"azriel gave me one a few years ago. i used to have nightmares about my childhood and also from some of the things i saw over the decades as a consequence of being part of this world. i had hard nights where i couldn't sleep, haunted by those nightmares. so, azriel, ever the spymaster, gave me one of these," you said, gesturing to the box.
"i have played it every night since. it brings me comfort and reminds me that i'm safe and i'm not alone. i gave one to my brother after he came back from under the mountain. it helped him a lot, so i thought of doing the same thing for you." you ended with the warmest smile.
feyre's eyes were filled with tears at your gesture, she couldn't get any words out, so she just nodded and then opened the box.
a soft and sweet melodie reached her ears, and feyre immediately recognized the sound.
it was the music that rhys showed her that night on the cell under the mountain — the music that saved her life.
feyre closed the box and launched for you, involving you in a tight embrace, one that you didn't hesitate to reciprocate.
she still didn't have any words, so she said the only thing she could at the moment. "thank you," she squeezed you even more, "thank you so much."
you held her for a few more seconds before letting go.
you grabbed her free hand and said, "mor and I are going shopping this afternoon. why don't you come with us? i'd love to get to know you more."
"yes. i'd love that, too. thank you." feyre answered, her voice trembling a little at the emotions she was still feeling.
you squeezed her hand one last time before releasing and moved to stand next to azriel.
rhys approached feyre. "so, how did it go?"
feyre could only smile, "amazing. she's amazing. you and cassian raised her well."
rhys chuckled, "thank you, but we can't take all the credit. that's just how she is."
rhys nudged her with his shoulder, "i told you, you had nothing to worry about."
feyre smiled and squeezed the box that she still held. "yeah, you were right."
he was indeed right. you were sweet, kind and funny.
feyre noticed when she first walked into the room, how comfortable and relaxed everyone seemed around you.
how little of an effort you had to make in order to make them laugh or smile, how the air was lighter and brighter, and how you illuminated the room just by your presence.
they fell in a comfortable silence. feyre looked forward, and that's when she saw it.
she couldn't believe it at first.
she blinked her eyes a couple of times to make sure it was real and it was.
feyre remembers mor telling her about azriel.
how he is more quiet, reserved, discret, and colder than the rest of them.
always with a stoic and indifference in his face and a rigid composure and she even saw that azriel in the last days since she arrived in velaris.
but that's not the azriel that is standing just a few feet away from her.
no, this is a different azriel.
his shoulders are relaxed, there's a bright smile on his face, a softness in his eyes and his arm is around your waist with his hand resting on your hip, holding you close to him while he's looking at you talking about your last days in the winter court.
this is not the shadowsinger or the spymaster.
this is azriel — just azriel.
the shadows are dancing around your feet and ankles, like they are happy too for your return, happy that you are safe and back to their master's side.
feyre knows at this moment that you two are not just friends and that there has to be something more going on.
her suspicions were confirmed a few hours later at night when she decided to go to the library for a book so she could practice her reading before going to bed but ended up finding you and azriel instead.
he was sitting on the couch with his hands on your hips while you sat in his lap, straddling his waist, your hands on his hair while you two made out.
and by the way both your cheeks were flushed, feyre knew that you had been kissing each other for a while.

Bruises and Tears
Nessian x reader
Warnings: mentions of injuries
Tumblr media
Nesta knew you shouldn’t have gone with Cassian on that mission. That mission was too much for your first one. She was also pissed at Rhys for not sending her with you two. Nesta wanted to be there for your first.
Coming back from the Day Court with the Valkyries, Nesta knew something was wrong. Cassian had his side of the bond shut and yours was just still, which made Nesta uneasy.
Gwyn and Em trailed their best friend through the River House as she frantically raced to where you lay. They had tried to calm her down, but when Nesta had her mind set on something there was no deterring her.
Nesta halted when she saw Cassian being comforted by Azriel. He felt her presence, turning to see her angry and distraught face. “Nes,” he started, cut off by Nesta raising a slender hand. “What happened?” Nesta bit out.
Cassian took a deep breath, slowly striding over to his mate. Holding her shoulders Cassian looked down at Nesta. Some of her anger melting into worry. “She’s ok Nes. A broken arm, some bruises and scrapes, but that’s all.” Nesta’s eyes flutter shut as she breathes a sigh of relief. “She’s ok.” Nesta whispered back.
Wanting to give them alone time Azriel silently walked past the couple, tilting his head at Gwyn and Em to follow him.
———
After a week you were finally back on your feet. Still sore and bruised but better than before. Nesta and Cassian still haven’t stopped their hovering. They think your ribs will crack if you sigh too hard. And they won’t let you take this damn sling off. It’s very constricting.
To get a break from their mother henning you volunteered yourself for babysitting duty. Nyx wouldn’t pester you about your injuries. All the little boy is worried about his which toy he wanted to play with next. And he had plenty to pick from.
Sitting on the floor with Nyx you were playing teddy bear cafe. You were in charge of refilling tea cups while Nyx did everything else.
The little boy slumped down on the floor, his little wings drooping. “I’m bored.” Nyx huffs. “What! Ok, well how about a board game or one of the puzzles Auntie Amren got you?” You suggest. Nyx shrugs giving you a small pout. He perked up, “Can we play outside?” Excitement in his tone as he bounced on his toes.
“Sure.” You needed to tire him out for nap time anyway. Nyx jetted out the door ready to run around. What you didn’t realize was that you had to run around with him.
Closing the back door behind you, you felt his little hand tap your leg. “Your it! Now you have to catch me!” Nyx yelled, running as fast as his little legs would go. You sigh, holding your injured arm closer to your body. It’ll be fine. You just have to be careful.
After an hour of playing tag Nyx was finally getting tired. You were too. Panting, you stared down at the little guy. A smile on your face as you prepared to run after him one last time. “I’m gonna get you.” Nyx laughed as he ran right at you trying to go around you.
You let him. Then spin to chase after him. As you ran you ignored the uneven ground. You tripped over a divet, loosing your footing you tripped landing right on top of your healing arm. Biting your tongue to hold in your scream your eyes began to water.
Slowly standing Nyx runs over to you. He was bouncing on his feet, “Did I win, did I win?” You gave him a smile to hide your wince from the pain burning through your body. “Yup, you sure did pal. Let’s go inside for nap time.”
Once Nyx was settled you let yourself finally feel the pain. Your arm throbbing as you rocked back and forth on the couch, begging yourself not to cry. Removing the sling you find a new bruise spanning from your wrist to the middle of your arm. “Shit,” you murmur. A few tears escape your eyes as the front door opens.
The four file in, their conversation halting at the sight of you. You felt Nesta and Cassian’s worry through the bond. They were next to you in an instant, Nesta wiping your stray tears. Cass pulls you onto his lap, “what happened baby?”
“I was playing with Nyx in the garden and I fell.” They both coo at you. “I’ll get you a tonic for the pain.” Nesta says, pressing a kiss to your forehead. Cassian swayed you lightly taking the focus off your pain and on him. When Nesta returned you downed the tonic.
“You understand that you are not doing any strenuous activity until you’re fully healed.” Nesta said with no room for argument in her tone. You sigh, annoyed as you slump back into Cassian’s chest. “I guess,” you huff.

Promises Are Meant to be Broken
- Theodore Nott x fem!Reader, Lorenzo Berkshire x fem!reader
summary: As childhood best friends, Enzo and you made a pact to date and get married before leaving to Hogwarts together. But as you get older, that promise begins to fade in your memory, as opposed to Enzo because it’s all he can think about.
Disclaimer: ok so I know I promised to not write another fic about Theo, but, well…. read the title. Plus, this fic includes Enzo as a romantic-ish partner so…. yeah! also it was my blogs official 2 years as of 4 days ago! Thank you to everyone who enjoys my stories and keeps this mess of a (v hyper fixated) blog alive 💗
***
“When we’re older, if we both aren’t dating someone by 16, we’ll date each other.” 4 year old Enzo said to you, as you were both playing in the forest by your house.
“And if we aren’t married by 21, we’ll marry each other.” You had said, jumping into the river to cool yourself off from the boiling July weather.
“You promise?” Enzo responded, tentatively dipping a toe in.
“I promise.” You said, before grabbing his hand and pulling him in.
—-
“Hey Enzo, pass me that book please. The purple one.” You said, hoping to find the answers to your homework in there.
“Yeah, here you go.” He said as he passed it to you, smiling as he did so.
“Merlin, do any of you know how to do this?” Theo asked from beside you, struggling on his transfiguration homework.
“Just copy mine, it’s in my bag.” Pansy said, not looking up from her potions essay.
“Thanks P, you’re a life saver.”
You and your best friends were all sitting in the library doing your homework, trying to get ahead of it for the week since you all planned to throw a party this Friday.
You had been friends with most of them since childhood, Enzo and your friendship going the farthest back. Your friend group was extremely close, and you all always chose to spend as much time together as possible.
“I can’t do this anymore, I give up.” Mattheo said, slamming his textbook shut.
“Then give up on getting drunk this weekend.” Blaise said, knowing exactly how to motivate Mattheo.
He made an exasperated groan before opening his book again and going back to his work.
“I say we enchant the bottles so they turn to water every time he tries to drink.” Theo whispered to you, smirking at the thought.
You giggled quietly at his joke, staring into his deep blue eyes.
You both kept eye contact for a little longer than necessary before Enzo loudly cleared his throat.
You turned to look at him, giving him a confused look. He pretended he didn’t see it.
Enzo had had a crush on you for as long as he could remember, and been in love with you for a couple months now. He had hoped that you would’ve kept your promise to each other about dating when you turned 16, but seeing as there were only 2 months left in your 6th year he doubted it would ever happen. He wished he had the courage to tell you, but he was so afraid he would ruin your friendship. Draco kept telling him he could play it off as a joke if he ever brought it up, but Enzo knew you. He knew you’d never believe him. Plus, he was sure Theo had a crush on you. And, could he really compete with Theodore Nott? With his 6’4 frame, dark curly hair, brooding stare, and perfect smile?
“Alright, I’m done.” You said, taking him out of his trance.
He was about to speak up and offer to leave with you, but somebody beat him to it.
“I’ll walk back with you. If I stare at this book for one more second my head will explode.” Theo said, packing up his things before grabbing your bag and his.
How Enzo wished his head would explode. He felt bad thinking these things about his best friend, but he couldn’t help it. The girl of his dreams was on the line.
“See you guys later.” You said, and Theo gave the group a nod before putting his hand on the small of your back and leading you both out of the library.
The simple touch erupted butterflies in your stomach. Every touch and look from Theo did. Your crush on Theo was growing stronger and stronger every month, every year, every day. How could it not? He was always doing the cutest things, and Pansy was always feeding your delusions.
“I think I’m going to go take a nap, i feel like a zombie.” You told Theo once you had both entered the Slytherin common room.
“Come sleep in my dorm, I don’t wanna be alone.” Theo said, making a silly pouty face to convince you.
“Fine, but only if you let me borrow clothes.”
“Your wish is my command, principessa.” He said, making you blush. You loved when he used that nickname.
You both quickly made your way towards his dorm, laughing and giggling the entire way up at jokes Theo was making. He really was the funniest guy you knew.
“Here we are.” Theo said, as he opened the door for you.
“Thanks, Teddy.” You said, walking into his shared dorm with Mattheo and Enzo. He blushed at the nickname, and hoped you wouldn’t notice.
You’d spent countless hours here, drunk after parties, doing homework, just hanging out. Their dorm was like your second home. You made your way to Theo’s bed where you plopped yourself down and took off your Mary Jane’s.
“Ok, I want a hoodie. Please.” You said, adding the please after and throwing in a sweet smile.
“Yes ma’am.” He said, walking over to his closet and strategically picking out his Quidditch hoodie that had his name written on the back.
He handed it to you and you thanked him before you began unbuttoning your school shirt.
His gaze lingered on you before you gave him a jokingly seductive look which struck him out of his trance. You giggled as he turned away and watched him quickly fix his pants, and take a couple deep breathes before going to take off his own school shirt to change into some comfortable clothes.
You gaze lingered on his abs, chiseled to perfection due to Quidditch. He changed into a t-shirt and grey sweatpants, which didn’t help your case.
“Ughh, I’m ready to sleep.” He said, embracing you in a hug and laying on top of you.
“Mmph mpaoood.” You said, your voice muffled by his chest.
“What?” He said, laughing, putting his arms on either side of you and lifting his body so he was looking down on you.
“I said: me too!” You said, giggling, before putting your arms around his neck.
“Let’s go to sleep then.” He said, begrudgingly taking himself out of your embrace and getting up to turn the lights off and shut the curtains.
You put yourself under the covers and snuggled into Theo’s bed, his scent all over the sheets putting you in a dreamlike state.
“Sleep tight.” Theo said, admiring the way you looked with his name sprawled over your back.
He held you tightly, and you snuggled into his chest before falling into a peaceful sleep.
___
“Shut the fuck up!” Mattheo said loudly, entering his dorm room with Enzo following close behind, his laugh echoing on the walls.
“Oh shit, the lovebirds are sleeping.” Mattheo said, covering his mouth and dropping his voice to a whisper.
“Huh?” Enzo asks, before stepping into the room and seeing the horrific sight.
You and Theo, both in Theo’s bed, wrapped in a tight embrace, your breaths following the same pattern.
“Fuck off.” Enzo mumbled under his breath, before dropping his things and storming out of the room, leaving a confused Mattheo behind.
—-
“You’re the best!” You say to Enzo, who brought you back a drink.
The music was booming so loudly you could feel it vibrating through your body. The dark green lights were swimming around the room, engulfing everybody. You had just made your way out of the crowded dance floor, which you had easily convinced Enzo to follow you into.
He sat down next to you, spreading his legs and putting his arm on the top of the couch behind you.
“This dress looks really nice on you, y/n.” He said, staring intently at you as he sips out of his own cup.
“Thanks, Enzo. You’re outfit is nice too.” You said, looking at his slightly unbuttoned white shirt with black pants. Simple, but nice.
“You bought me this shirt.”
“Oh that’s right! No wonder I like it.” You said, causing Enzo to chuckle.
“Anyway, I can’t believe Michelle actually showed up.” You said, continuing the conversation. You loved gossiping with Enzo, you two always knew everything going around Hogwarts.
“I know, the nerve. I mean if it was just Draco I would get it, but it’s Pansy’s party too.” He said, referring to the girl who attempted to date Draco even though Pansy and him were “together.”
“Totally. I mean when she tried snogging him they technically weren’t labeled, but everyone knew they were together.” You said, Enzo’s face so close to yours so that you could both here the conversation over the blasting music.
“Yeah-“ He begins, before he’s cut off my Mattheo.
“Yo mate, where’s the extra fire-whiskey.” He says, wobbling over, clear that he doesn’t need any more alcohol.
“Under the black chair.” Enzo says, nodding to the chair, barely taking his eyes off you.
“That’s why you’re my favorite.” He says, causing you to scoff. He begins to walk off before you speak up, and he turns back to you.
“Where’s Theo?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t seen him in a while.” Mattheo responded, and Enzo’s eyes are now on the ground, a mean look on his face.
“He said he was gonna go smoke with you though?”
“That prick, he never shares his weed. But no, I haven’t seen him.”
“What? Where is he then?”
“Probably shagging some girl.” Enzo says with a nasty voice.
You turn to him bewildered.
“He wouldn’t do that.” Mattheo said, trying to save his best friend. He knew of Theo’s huge crush on you and he wasn’t going to let him get a bad image with you. Enzo, on the other hand, hadn’t told anyone about his feelings for you.
You give Mattheo a small smile before looking down at your cup.
“He’s probably outside or something, you know how he is. He’s not with some girl, trust me.” Mattheo says, reassuring you.
“You’re right. I’m gonna go look for him.”
Mattheo smirks, hoping tonight will finally be the night Theo mans up and asks you out.
“Wait-“ Enzo starts, but you’re already off.
—-
You make your way up the astronomy tower’s stairs, the last place you can think of to find Theo. The summer weather engulfs you like a warm blanket, and a gentle breeze keeps you from breaking any sort of sweat. The moon and stars are shining so brightly it’s as if you’ve just casted a Lumos charm. As you finally take the last steps and climb onto the platform, you see Theo’s tall frame, facing away from you, leaning on the railing.
“Teddy?” You call out softly, causing him to turn around.
The smoke from his blunt creates a cloudy haze around him, and his eyes are bloodshot, although you can’t tell if it’s due to the drug or if he’s been crying. He smiles softly when he sees you.
“Hey, you.” He opens his arms for you, and you quickly make your way to him. He immediately engulfs you into a tight embrace and puts his face into your hair.
“You ok?” You ask, voice slightly muffled by his chest.
“Yeah, yeah. Just been thinking too much.” He says, as he unwraps himself from around your body.
“Probably all the fire-whiskey I drank.” He says, chuckling. You giggle softly and place yourself next to him on the railing, looking out to the night sky.
“What have you been thinking about?” You ask. You’ve always reassured Theo that he could come to you whenever he needs it, and as much as he appreciates it he just can’t find it in him to express his emotions to others. It makes you feel slightly guilty because he’s always the first one there when you’re feeling down. It used to be Enzo, but it’s been Theo’s arms you’ve been crying into recently.
“Just life. And my place in it.” He says, taking a drag from his blunt.
“What’s your place in it?” You ask, trying to nonchalantly get him to open up.
“Just my place in others lives. I feel like I don’t have one.”
“What do you mean?” You ask, your eyes flicking around his face, trying to search for answers.
“I just feel like I don’t add anything to anyone’s life. Like I’m just a background character. Someone with no importance. Like… like as if nobody needs me.” He says, a soft and sad smile on his face, trying to not worry you with his feelings.
Your quiet for a second, your brain racking around how a boy who brings so much happiness to everyone’s lives could possibly feel this way. A boy who so easily made you fall in love with who he is, without even trying. The wind picks up, and begins blowing with a calming hum.
“I do. I need you.” You finally say, the alcohol in your system making you completely honest.
Theo’s face lifts up to look directly at you, his eyes searching for meaning in yours. Had you really just said what he thought you did? Was this you being friendly, or possibly, hopefully, something more? He reached his hand up to put a piece of hair blown into your face by the wind behind your ear.
“I need you. I need you more than anything actually.” He says, voice soft and sweet.
“I think of you every second I’m awake, and dream of you every second I’m asleep. I’ve never felt this way about anyone, y/n.” He says, sweetly but firmly, wanting to leave no doubt about his feelings in your mind.
“You have no idea how much I’ve daydreamed about you saying that.” You said, putting your hand over his, leaving it on your cheek.
“I think I have an idea, considering it’s all I’ve done for as long as I can remember.” He says, his body now towering over you.
“I feel like I’m dreaming right now.” You say, looking intently into his eyes.
Suddenly, he leans down and his lips are quickly on yours. It takes you a second to kiss back, since you were taken aback by the suddenness of it, but you quickly recuperate and kiss him back eagerly.
The kiss is hungry and earnest, but loving and kind. He tastes sweet and his arms around you are suddenly making you weak in the knees. Your hands make your way to his hair, getting lost in the brown curls.
Your tongues dance together, exploring each other’s mouths. After a little while you both pull away from each other in an attempt to catch your breathes.
“Do you still feel like your dreaming?” He asks, smiling.
“Much more than before, now.” You say giggling, his arms around your waist and yours around his neck.
“You have no idea how many times I’ve had to hold myself back from kissing you.” He says, causing you both to laugh more.
“I wish you hadn’t. This could’ve happened so much sooner.”
“Yeah, after that kiss I wish I hadn’t either. It was better than I ever even imagined.”
You giggle and turn away as your cheeks turn pink. His fingers softly grab your chin, turning you back to face him.
“Now that that’s happened, I don’t want to lose you.” He says, seriously.
“Oh yeah? And what are you gonna do about it.” You say, smirking playfully. He smiles at you and chuckles as he lightly shakes his head.
“Y/n, can I be your boyfriend?” He asks, making deep eye contact.
“I’d be an idiot if I said no.” You say, before reaching up to connect your lips once again.
—-
It had been almost a week of you officially dating Theo and you couldn’t be happier. None of your friends were surprised when you started dating, seeing as it had been painfully obvious to everyone but you two that you both liked each other. Since you were both in the same friend group, it wasn’t difficult to balance your friend-life with your relationship-life, making it all 100x easier. The only thing that seemed slightly out of place, was your relationship with Enzo. You hadn’t seen much of him the past few days, and would even say he seemed…. angry with you? You couldn’t really tell, but your happiness due to finally dating Theo outweighed all your worries tenfold.
It’s officially been a week from Friday, and your making your way to the library to return some books you had finally finished using. As you walked into the quiet and calming atmosphere, you noticed Enzo sitting alone at a table, his notes spread out in front of him. You smiled lightly, wanting to speak to your best friend who you’ve missed so much. You’d barely spoken to him all week, and all your conversations seemed to be cut extremely short by one of his “activities.”
“Hey Enzo.” You say sweetly, sitting down in a chair next to him.
He looks up at you with a strange expression on his face before looking back down at his essay.
“So… how’s your week been?” You ask, attempting to fill the awkward silence and converse with him.
“Fine.” He says, not even glancing in your direction.
You take a deep breath.
“Is everything alright with you? Have I done something?” You ask, confused on why he was acting this way.
“No.”
“Enzo, please. I know you. What are you upset about?”
“Nothing.”
“Enzo!” You say, exasperated, wishing he would tell you what was wrong so you could help fix it.
“Merlin y/n, are you really this dim-witted?” He says rudely, looking up at you for the first time.
“What…?” You ask, taken aback by his cruelty.
“Whatever, I’m done.” He says, as he begins to quickly pack up his things, shoving papers and books into his bag hastily.
“Enzo, please. Just talk to me.” You say, desperate not to lose your best friend over something you don’t even understand. You quickly get up, picking up your pace to keep up with his.
“Just leave me alone y/n.” He says, picking up his own pace. Heads turn to you two, and you can hear the whispers.
“Enzo just talk to me!” You say, reaching for his arm as your exiting the library.
He shakes your hand off. “I don’t want to talk to you! What do you not understand?” He says, stopping brusquely and turning to face you.
Your taken aback by his sudden stop and almost lose your balance.
“Why not? What have I done?!”
“You know exactly what you’ve done!” He says, beginning to walk away again.
You react quickly enough to grab his arm and pull him into an empty classroom before shutting the door.
“I’m not letting you leave until you tell me what it is that I’ve done to upset you.”
“Nice try.” He says, before attempting to push past you.
“Enzo don’t do this to me, please. I miss you.” You beg.
“Oh you miss me? Really? Well it doesn’t seem like that ever since him.” He says, anger extremely evident in his voice.
“Him? You mean Theo?” You ask, confused.
“Yes of course I mean Theo.” He says sassily.
“What does Theo have to do with this? I’ve been trying to make time for you but you’re the one who’s always busy!” You say, anger rising in your own voice at his selfishness.
“You don’t understand, do you?” He says, searching in your face for answers.
“What do I not understand?” You ask, already extremely upset with him.
“That I’m fucking in love with you y/n!” He says, his hands flying up to his hair.
“What..?”
“Merlin I’ve been in love with you for years. And I thought you felt the same way until you went off with that git!”
“That git? You mean your best friend? And.. why would you even think that? And why didn’t you say anything earlier?” You ask, spewing out questions rapidly.
He was quiet for a minute, at a loss for words.
“You’re telling me you’ve never felt anything towards me? Ever? We promised each other we would end up together!”
“Enzo we were 4!” You say, bewildered by his claims.
“Ok? It was still a promise!”
“Yeah, one we made when we were 4! Do you not understand how stupid you sound?!”
“That promise meant something to me! I’ve waited every second of every day until we turned 16 until we could finally be together! I thought you had forgotten since we never worked out, but now I know you just never cared enough.” He said, voice filled with sadness.,
“It’s not that I didn’t care Enzo! I care so much for you, but I… I just don’t love you. I’m in love with Theo.”
“God, please don’t say his name.” He says, his eyes filled with hurt.
“I’ll say his name all I want.” You spit out, bitterly.
His face falls even more so than before, his eyes brimming with tears.
“You promised me you’d be with me, and then you go out with my best friend! What the fuck is wrong with you?” He says, a crazy look in his eyes as he rubs his face.
“Yeah, well, promises are meant to be broken.” You say, tears silently falling from your eyes. You couldn’t believe the way Enzo was acting, you’d never seen him like this. In all his selfish glory. You should have actually listened to the rumors that came from his ex-girlfriends.
You turn around to reach for the door handle, wanting nothing more than to be as far away from him as possible.
“Y/n, wait!” He says, reaching for your hand to stop you from walking into the hallway.
“You’re my best friend, I don’t want this to end. Please.” He begs, tears still brimming in his eyes, his face and neck splotched with red.
“Let go of me.” You say, before shaking his hand off, and walking away. Leaving him standing in the doorway to wallow in his misery.

thinkin 'bout me
River x gn!Reader
summary: River can't stand being away from you.
content & warnings: one shot // MILD sexual content
word count: 916
a/n: this was kind of a spur-of-the-moment-type thing. i'm new to writing about sexual themes so pls bear with me. hope u enjoy! 🫶
Tumblr media
Your phone lights up with its text chime ringing out in your room. You pick it up to see River’s text:
 hey
You smile.
Hey baby, what’s up?
i miss you
It had been a few days since you had last seen her, but even a few days was too long.
I miss you too, I wish you were here
can i come over?
The 10:30 mark on the clock threatened to keep you from letting her drive to your house. It was late and raining, and you did not want her to get out in the stirring weather.
It’s raining and dark Riv, I don’t want you getting out. What if I come see you tomorrow morning?
i need you now baby. please.
You let out a sigh to yourself, knowing how stubborn River could be when she wanted something.
Ok fine, what about Jade?
mads is watching her, i’ll be there in 10
Kay, be careful
Before you know it, you hear a knock at your front door. Turning the lock, you open it to see River’s silhouette against the blurring streetlights. She does not take another wasted moment and falls into you, her arms securing your waist. You close the door behind her, but instead of getting a word out, she locks your lips with her own.
“Baby, what is it?” you question once you both part, noticing her desperate behavior.
“I told you,” she started, now bringing up her hand to hook the back of your neck before finishing with, “I just missed you.”
A soft smile pulls at your lips. “It’s been three days.” While holding her, you take in her calming scent that is overpowering the rain droplets shimmering in her hair.
“I know, but it feels like it’s been forever,” River breathes and pulls you into another kiss. This time she held you in for a little longer. Your hands slide down to wrap her waist, tracing her curves that hid beneath her oversized shirt.
Upon breaking contact, you hear a sigh of relief leave her and chuckle. “You’re so needy.” This finally brings that gorgeous smile to her face.
“Shut up,” she giggles and gently shoves your shoulder.
“Facts is facts,” you tease further, giving her side a playful pinch. Receiving a squeal in return, you kiss her once more.
The pattering rain fades into a roar which beckons the irresistible urge within River to escalate. She grabs your hand and leads you over to the living room sofa. When she sits you down, you move in time with her while she straddles your hips, seating herself on top of your thighs. Your hands hold her waist while hers jump to your neck. You feel her fingers run up the back of your head, and a moan slips past your defense.
“Can you handle me, y/n?” River asks in between breaths.
You move to pull at the hem of her shirt. “I’m up for the challenge.” You are met halfway and she rids her shirt from her body, tossing it to the floor before going for your own.
“You better be.”
One thing leads to another before the two of you are stripped of everything but your undergarments and are getting deeper into the stormy night’s embrace. This time, you take control. Pulling her onto the cushions, you flip around to crouch over her as she lays beneath you. Your mouth waters at the sight of her pale, velvet skin glowing in the dim lighting. Her lips capture you in long but breaking kisses to start off and get more and more wanting. You then duck your head to plant sucking kisses to her neck as her digits curl in your hair.
“God, I’ve missed you, baby,” River grunts, slightly arching her spine at the sensitivity pricking her skin’s nerves when your teeth graze her collarbone. She tightens her thighs around you to stabilize your position over her.
You thought she was the needy one, but now, she was making you second-guess your teasing. You realized just how much you missed hearing her calming voice, feeling her comforting warmth, and holding her slender figure. “You have no idea,” you breathe.
Retracing your trail of pecks back up to her lips, River’s aggression boils with wet kisses and subtle moans. Her black nails drag across your shoulder blades, sending a shiver to pierce your spine. “Easy, kitty,” you whisper.
“Did you just call me a fucking cat?” she chuckles and you laugh.
Whilst occupied, you reach for her bra strap and tug it down so it slips off her shoulder. This contact makes her back arch. As her chest presses up against yours, you take the time to remove the other black strap to leave it loose.
Once she catches up with you, you sit up, and she unclips the back of her bra to throw it to the side.
You both resituate, now laying your lower-half on top of hers. The heat from her body has you falling into her faster than before. Your heartrate increases and a warm bubbling begins to stir in your lower belly. As you gaze down at River, the lust in her eyes reflect in yours like pure crystal. Damn, were you glad you agreed to having her over, and the night was just getting started.
Leaning close to her ear, you nuzzle her jawline with a soft, tempting growl. “Now, show me what you came here for.”

pjo episode four parts that made me scream
Them starting with sally trying teach percy how to swim and percy being scared is fantastic for two reasons: number one, its a normal kid thing and number two it ties into later in the books when we find out percy has a fear of drowning. Its like hoe thalia has a fear of heights and kind of ties into the idea that forbidden children are often afraid of some part of their parents element. I love that theyre bringing in elements of that idea so early!!!
percy’s “can i ask a stupid question” and annabeths “are you trying to make me make fun of you” akdbdkbaaksbdkjsbakks shes so funny
I LOVE THAT THEY BRING UP PAN AND SPECIFICALLY TIE HIM TO MANIFEST DESTINY AND AMERICAS HISTORY OF KILLING ITS INDIGENOUS PEOPLE!!!! ITS IMPORTANT FUCKING HISTORY AND IM SO GLAD THE SHOW ACKNOWLEDGED IT
percy and annabeths little banter, percys stupid accent and then him collapsing on her. That and the scene where theyre talking on the train is the percabeth we deserve!!!!!! God i love them so much
ALSO going back to the scene where theyre talking in bed on the train i love how annabeth knows that grovers grumpy in the morning and percy doesnt. Grover was her protector once too!! (Like they said last episode) and theyve traveled together before!! He was annabeths friend before he was percys
ok everyones already said this but the parallels between annabeth and medusa?!!??? With medusa saying “i was you” last episode and now annabeth getting punished for something percy did ghe same was medusa was punished for something Poseidon did????? Absolutely insane i love it
also the fact that it hurt athenas pride specifically, much like how medusa mentioned the “pride of athena” in reference to annabeth last episode, which all ties back to the fact that hubris is annabeths fatal flaw and she gets it from her mother
THE CUT TO PERCY IN THE FOUNTAIN AND THEM SPLASHING WATER ON HIM AHSKSBJAHAJSJSB theyre so funny for that
Percy just looks like a wet rag this episode and its so well done you can even tell the makeup on his face was done to make him appear paler and sicklier and it works so well
ok PERCY PULLING ANNABETH INTO THE STAIRWELL AND SHUTTING THE DOOR???? Because hes loyal to a fault!!!! And theyre becoming friends!!!!!!!!! And he cares about her more in like a week than athena ever has and its shown to us so clearly in this episode!!!!!!
ONCE AGAIN LUKES MOTIVATIONS ARE GOING TO MAKE SO MUCH SENSE BY THE TIME WE GET TO THE END OF THIS AND WE DONT EVEN HAVE TO SPEND TIME WITH HIM TO UNDERSTAND THEM god this series is so well done
Also the chimeras design looks so cool i love it so much
AND WE FINALLY GET AN ANSWER AS TO HOW PERCY GOT IN THE RIVER FROM THE TOP OF THE ARCH!! (At least in the tv world, in the book world the arch might very well just be in a different spot lol)
Poseidon saves him!! Hes a better parent than athena is apparently
god the episode ending with percy breathing underwater is so good i was on the edge of my seat until the very end
OK LAST THING is that they are continuing the theme sally brings up about monsters not always looking like monsters and heroes not always looking like heroes so well!!! Echidna bringing it up and saying that to her, demigods are more dangerous was fantastic i love how dedicated they are to this
OK ACTUALLY THE LAST THING i love the dichotomy of different mothers in this episode. We start with sally and percy and immediately see how much they love each other and care about each other!!!! Then we get to echidna who cares about her children too by teaching them to hunt!!! And then we get athena who ducking punishes annabeth for something she didnt even do. And its like. That was a little monstrous athena. Im understanding why someone might want to kill their godly parent
GOD THIS SERIES IS SO GOOD

To Cope
Another commission!
They asked for platonic Time, helping/consoling Reader after the death of a loved one.
Masterlist
Content under the cut.
It was hard to explain.
The pain… The pain was enough to shut you down. It was raw. It was deep and primal. It cuts you to the core. It knocks you off your feet. You felt like you were falling even if your feet were still planted on solid ground.
You felt sick. Nauseous.
Tears pricked at your eyes before you could fully control yourself. You counted yourself lucky that there was no one else around you at the moment because if someone saw you, they would ask questions. And you would have to answer. And if you answer, you don’t think you would be able to hold yourself together for as long as you’ve been managing to. Saying it out loud would make it real. And if it was real, then there was no coming back from this.
You had lost them. You weren’t even home and they’re gone. You’re never going to see them again. They won’t be waiting for you when you open that door.
A sob rips out of your mouth before you can stop yourself. This isn’t the place to cry. The others are going to hear you. You won’t be able to explain-
A twig snaps somewhere to your right.
You hold yourself tighter, holding your breath as if that’s going to stop them from finding you.
You don’t even bother to look up and see who it is. You curl in tighter, trying to squeeze the pain out of you. The other person pauses. You can’t see them but you can hear that they’ve stopped moving. Slowly, as if they weren’t sure how to go about it, they approached you and sat by your side.
You sniffle, cursing yourself internally. You didn’t want anyone to see you this way. You had hoped that you would return early enough to hide your tears. But now you’ve been caught. You struggle to open your mouth but you still find the courage to speak. “...Go away…”
It's more a plea than a demand. It sounds pathetic. You feel pathetic. It’s too much to hold in and another sob slips past you.
An arm wraps around your shoulders and pulls you tightly into their side. “Let it out.”
You gasp and look up. You hadn’t expected Time to find you. He looks at you patiently and you can see the little worry lines beside his eyes. Gently, he raises his other hand and wipes the tears from your cheeks. “You can cry… It’s ok…”
It’s as if the dam broke. Before you can even register the forces in your heart, sobs tumble out of you in a river of emotion. It’s too strong for you to hold back anymore.
Time turns and pulls you into his arms, holding onto you tightly. It’s just enough for you to let go of your emotions. It’s the strength you wish you had to squeeze your feelings out.
Your heart hurts. It hurts so much.
Time says nothing and sighs to himself. He brings his hand up to gently run his hand over your head in soothing motions, holding onto you as you cry. You don’t hold him back. You’re still trying to pick up the pieces of your crumbling walls.
Time is ok with this. He doesn’t know all the details about the death of… well… All he knows is that your very world revolved around them. And now they’re gone. He… can only guess what that feels like.
The moment passes and your sobs dissolve into hiccups. You finally grab onto Time and tuck your face into the crook of his neck, looking for comfort from the man.
He doesn’t hesitate to hold you back. Time holds you tighter than before and starts to gently rock back and forth.
Eventually your hiccups subside as well but Time doesn’t push you away.
A beat passes as Time keeps rocking and petting you softly. “I’m sorry.” He says. “I’m sure you wanted to be alone… but this isn’t something you should deal with alone. We’re all here for you.”
You sniffle and keep quiet.
That doesn’t stop Time though. “Take all the time you need. We don’t have to move at all tomorrow. Breath. Save your strength.”
You bite your lip, feeling a little indignant. “It hurts, Link. They’re gone and I- I’m- I can’t even-”
“Shh…” Time wipes away the last of the runaway tears. “Don’t. There are many things in this life that we cannot control and there are many things that will happen when we least expect it. We’re simply at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
A whine escapes you. You clutch onto Time like a lifeline, gripping onto his shirt and shoulders as if something threatened to tear you away. Time says nothing about it and simply holds you close.
“...I already miss them.”
“I know.” Time whispers, aching on your behalf. “That feeling won’t go away. You just learn to live with it. You learn to find a new normal.”
You can’t accept his words. It’s too fresh. It’s too recent. You shake your head, threatening to sob once more into his shoulder. “...I don’t want a new normal.”
Time doesn’t want to see you hurting as much as you don’t want to hurt. “You can’t stay this way. They wouldn’t want you to stay this way.”
His words strike a cord and you finally lift your head to look him in the eyes. Time’s heart sinks. You look destroyed. Time wipes your face again, even if the tears are slowing down. “It doesn’t have to be today or tomorrow. All in due time. I’m sorry you’re hurting. I can’t help as much as I’d like.”
You sniffle again and lean in, resting your head on his shoulder once more. As much as you don’t want to admit it, you really needed that cry. “...You’re helping enough… Thank you, Link.”
Time nods and wraps his arms securely around you. “I’m here for you.”

The Undertale cast in a Lazy river, Please!!!
Undertale Sans - He tries to resist. He really tries to resist. But man, he's so tired after so much excitement. All everyone can hear are his loud snores as he looks like a dead corpse, just floating. He's not going to move until Toriel comes and picks him up to go home lol.
Undertale Papyrus - He's pouting. Toriel forced him and Undyne to take a ride on the lazy river because they were too excited and apparently doing too much chaos in the place. He's bored as hell because what is even the point of sitting still and doing nothing? He tried to start a race with Undyne, but then Toriel grabbed their rubber rings and gave them a death stare powerful enough to make them both shut up. So now Papyrus is pouting, waiting for Toriel to turn her back to escape with his best friend.
Undertale Toriel - She's the one who had the idea to take everyone to a water park, so she feels responsible for everyone because she promised the director of the park everything would be fine, and not ten minutes later, she found Undyne and Papyrus climbing a slide. But not backward or anything. They were ON the slide, five meters up the floor. So she dragged them to the lazy river to calm them down and lecture them, which worked... Not. But at least she can finally relax for ten minutes, pushing Sans' rubber ring with her foot and holding to Undyne's and Papyrus' ones to prevent them from escaping. She can see them whisper in her back but she is ready to use fire magic to keep their asses in that attraction.
Undertale Asgore - So, uh. He's supposed to float or something, but, uh... He's too heavy. He's too ashamed to tell the nice people at the entrance of the attraction, so he's just... walking in circles lol. It's ten times or something now. He's not relaxed. He's just scared someone will say something and ban him from the lazy river.
Undertale Undyne - That's bullshit! She was having fun, they even almost made it to the top of the GIGANTIC FORBIDDEN slide with Papyrus, but now she's stuck in a stupid rubber ring, not able to escape her fate, and she hates it so much. If Toriel thinks she can stop her, she's wrong. After ten minutes, Undyne suddenly and brutally jumps on Toriel's back, screaming like she's going to war, and she does all she can to make her fall from her rubber ring. Once she's in the water, she grabs a shocked Papyrus like he weighs nothing and runs away, jumping from rubber ring to rubber ring, holding the skeleton above her head like a trophy. They're going back to the forbidden slide and no one will stop them this time!
Undertale Alphys - She's the one who rescues poor Toriel after Undyne's runaway. And she's the one stuck with her to listen to her complain for fifteen minutes. Alphys is nodding at all she says, feeling very awkward, but uh, ok??? Eventually, she goes back to enjoy the lazy river, floating next to Sans. Looking at the skeleton is just *yawn* tiring her. Eventually, she joins Sans for a nap. The skeleton actually wakes up with Alphys holding his leg like a plushie, her tail circled around his ribcage.
Undertale Frisk - They're playing their favorite game: bothering Chara. Chara just wants to relax, but Frisk just pokes their cheek, or makes weird noises with their mouth, and has fun just staring at Chara, jumping at every gesture or sound. Oh, they know they're testing the limit, but they can't help it.
Undertale Chara - They're at their limit, and since Frisk doesn't get it. They suddenly push them into the water and forced their head back into the water five or six times to teach them a lesson. Then they quickly paddle with their hands to take some distance, only stopping once they are sure Frisk can't get them. ... But Frisk is determined...
Undertale Mettaton - He insists he goes into the lazy river even though at least five people including Toriel, Alphys and Napstablook asked him to please not. He did anyway, immediately short-circuited and then had to watch on the edge of the pool for the rest of the day, unable to move, because Alphys told him so and refused to fix him before they got back home. That's going to be a long day.
Undertale Gaster - He's uncomfortable. Mainly because his goop is leaving a big black puddle in the water wherever he's going. He can see the humans directing the park are disapproving, but they can't do anything because that's now an hour he's hiding behind Asgore, hoping the King will dissuade them to say something.
Undertale Grillby - Sans told him they were going to a park. He didn't specify that it was a WATER park. Which changes a lot of things since he can't really jump in the water without literally dying. He can't go either on a rubber ring because his flames made them explode. So he's just sitting next to Mettaton, bored. At least he has a lot of fire monsters to keep him company. It seems no one told them either.
Undertale Muffet - She is in a big rubber ring, and she's holding a rope tied to hundreds of tiny rubber rings full of spiders. Everyone is enjoying the lazy river or no one is enjoying the lazy river. She's glad her spiders are having fun! She's also screaming if everyone comes to close because there's no way any spider will drown in the water.
Undertale Burgerpants - The last thing he remembers is Mettaton jumping in the lazy river. He woke up at the hospital, in shock, and learned he almost died electrocuted. He's not even surprised at this point. This robot is going to kill him one of these days. At least he's alive...
Undertale Flowey - He was fine just sitting on the edge with the fire monsters until Asgore picked him up because he felt lonely walking in the water. Except Asgore is clumsy and made him fall three times already in the water, almost drowning him. Now Flowey is screeching and struggling, begging for someone to save him! Asgore feels bad and puts him on Sans' belly since he's stable and won't notice. Now Flowey is screaming and screeching to go back into Asgore's arms.
Undertale Gerson - He refused the rubber ring and now floats on his shell, enjoying the silence and the calm (mainly because he's half deaf because that lazy river is a lot of things but calm and silent is not one of them). For once, an activity he can do without all these young people bothering him. That's at this precise moment Undyne and Papyrus decide to jump from the top of the slide and into the lazy river, making him literally fly five meters in the air. Uh oh.
