At the risk of sounding like an absolute stalker if it ever was said out loud, Jihyuk can (almost) tell which ones of Jiwon's smiles are real, and which are perhaps less than honest. To the average layperson, it might be hard to differentiate which is which, but. Well. Jihyuk isn't any average layperson, now is he?

There's a curious practised tilt to her lips when they're being less than truthful. A sort of glossy, magazine-perfect smile with all teeth and perfect ratios to exude an air of amenability and eagerness to please that Jihyuk finds impressive in how seamless it flits into place when she is trying to hide behind her masks.

It's still beautiful, of course it is, as is everything that is to do with one Kang Jiwon. It is beautiful in a way a distant flower can be.

But when she's really pleased; truthful with her emotions and without the need for her masks, careful about the emotions she allows the space between them to carry, it's a smile that lights up his whole world. Jihyuk thinks that he can drown in the way the starlights in her eyes sparkle with delight, happy to bask in the warmth of her gaze as the secret signals they share between them twinkle in the night sky while she's being proposed to.

He smiles back at her. A private little thing that is only ever for her.

even though she doesn't even stack above 50 in the hero rankings, that's not to say that emi doesn't do her job as a pro hero. yes, she teaches. yes, she stays after school to work with her kids-- but she also pulls night shift patrols.

with the fandom as a collective whole really having little to no information pertaining to characters from ketsubutsu: i've hc'd it to it being, well.. ---- a school with not nearly as much funding as shiketsu or u.a.. it's probably more set in the outskirts or japan's countryside. supplies from the central parts of japan take their time in arriving and with the oncoming war, prices become inflated, supplies become scarce.

because ketsubutsu is a lower standard school, they don't have as big of a classroom size. they use reused books from the previous years for their studies rather than new ones. & when it comes to the staff's budget for support items in the hero course, or even costume upgrades, weapons-- the funding is very limited. -- if these young heroes are japan's future, why are they not being given everything they need to succeed?

emi wants her kids at ketsubutsu to have just as much of a chance at becoming a better pro hero than she could ever hope to be. she also wants her students to be able to have pride in their school, and one another. there's absolutely no reason why they should be considered different just because their school is not as " rich. " --- which is why emi uses any extra funds she has from her night patrols / pro hero portion of her job, to give her students what they can't get from the budget, the curriculum, or a principal who won't see reason or do anything about the issue.

miss joke doesn't have a family. she lives alone in a crappy apartment; & lives off of takeout and coffee. she doesn't need extra money. & the best part is? her kids don't know the she contributes anything. she donates to the school anonymously. in fact, no one knows. unless she tells them.
