So I minishifted to my kpop idol dr last night and I'm loosing my mind
Lowkey still kinda freaking out about it because it's only just when the realisation settled in that I FUCKING SHIFTED. AND TWO OF MY FATTEST CRUSHES WERE STOOD RIGHT THERE. FUCK. OKay let me explain what happened before I IMPLODE!😆
So given how startled I was when I woke up in what i assume is my studio room? (It was a pretty cute studio and looked like it WOULD be mine🤭🤞🏾) I was only there for a good 2 minutes before freaking out and shifting back like the COWARD I AM, so I'll tell you everything that happened whilst I was there😁
Okay so first of all, I woke up in "my" studio right next to my group leader Mei and my other best friend on the other end and I was SO confused at the time because I was trying to figure out where I was. I didn't understand why I was in a different room but like at the same time it felt familiar.
But anyway, I felt so comfortable and warm and realised it was because I had a really soft blanket wrapped around my body, which I suspect was from one of my members?? Maybe?? and then Mei looked over at me and noticed I was awake, she was like "Youre finally awake Keesh" and rubbed my back so gently i could have fallen asleep right there and then again. It was like I got a taste of satisfaction for my touch starved self.
And GOSH her voice was so much more raspy than I thought it was going to be i was quite taken aback😭😭 and her face sculpted by Aphrodite herself kinda switched to a concerned expression when she saw me looking around the room frantically like I didn't know where I was, she asked me if everything was alright, and I couldn't even reply with my voice because I was so stunned so I nodded weakly with most unconvincing smile ever because I was still processing what the hell was going on.
Then suddenly, I heard like two worryingly familiar male voices coming close to the studio room we were in☹️☹️(internally i was like FUCK OFF I cant do this rn). My head literally snapped to the door when i heard it creek open and standing right there was the glorious man he is, Min Yoongi, leaning on the door frame (with long black hair btw) and the gorgeous man he is, Jimin, peaking his head through from behind the door😭😭 (I think i remember him being Blonde?). When I tell you my pulse picked up at a million miles per second. Seeing Yoongi and Jimin in the flesh is something else you guys. And to say Yoongi is intimidating is an UNDERSTATMENT☠️☠️ those two were so hot oh my GOD. I was lowkey panicking because I was NOT prepared to come face to face with AANYONE from my kpop dr nevermind BTS☠️☠️ even though i intended to shift there last night.
But anyway, i heard Yoongi ask my members ask if I was still asleep because my food was getting cold, and Mei said, "Oh yeah, yeah, she just woke up.." and Immediately placed my head back on the table and covered my face with the blanket, PRAYINGGG she'd think I fell back asleep WHICH SHE DID THANK GOD🙏🏾 and right before I woke up here I heard Jimin saying something like "you should wake her up before he eats it all??" He was giggling while he was saying that, too. And then I shifted back here.
OH AND LET ME NOT FORGET TO ADD, THIS ENTIRE DIALOGUE WAS IN KOREAN?? AND I UNDERSTOOD IT ALL.
This experience is actually one of my most scariest/exciting/crazy ones ever. Not even just because I shifted there, but because of what happened prior to the shift. Me and my best friend were yapping to each other about BTS, and we were talking about the signs we picked up on and then the realisation I came to. The moment me and my friend and I made this silly girl group as a joke, it seems that we created a butterfly effect in our reality. And now, whatever sign I get about BTS, "coincidentally," always links back to my girl group.
Anyway so yeah idk wether or not I want to shift back because LORD I CRAVE TO SEE THEM AGAIN but like I am so intimidated by Yoongi and even Jimin I might just freak out the next time I see them again😭😭 @livingmydreamlife5555 @samara444 @4ellieluv @theshifterbear

tagged by @cateringisalie - tagging @darrelodin, @bad0mens (but don't feel obligated obviously!)
How many works do you have on ao3? 138
2. What’s your total ao3 word count? 434,082
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Persona 5, Octopath Traveler 2 are the active ones; previously wrote quite a bit for Bravely Default and some for Final Fantasy VII.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, these are all P5 fics. Also the top two really ARE the two fics I started on the p5 kinkmeme lol! (They had non-kink prompts as well)
When the Cat Dragged In the Trickster (2172) - AU where Ann is the PT leader; when Morgana runs away, he recruits the delinquent who sits behind her in class. Hiatus'd for way too long, I do want to resume it I just kind of. psyched myself out hard lol
Our Partner is Who? (1471) - no metaverse AU. Plays fast and loose with how Japanese school works to force Ryuji and Ann to work with "the scary delinquent" for a project. They realize he's not as bad as the rumors say.
Infringe (1039) - not all Joker Palace fics do this (or have a fairly ironclad reason for doing it), but a number have the thieves break the rule of a unanimous vote to investigate Joker's Palace behind his back. This is about how that could go wrong.
Stall and Crash (997) - Things go very wrong during a battle in Shido's Palace when a status effect sends Joker's mind back to the interrogation room.
Overload (623) - Minutes after summoning Satanael, Ren collapses in Shibuya square. Spurred by a prompt about giving p5 a p3-esque end (though, notably, Ren doesn't actually die...but at the point it leaves off, he's not in a good state, either)
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to. I don't always. I have a bad tendency to overthink and so I can get myself with "am I saying this right/did I respond to everything/AUGH IT'S BEEN TOO LONG".
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Oh gosh if you wanna go way back in time to fanfiction.net I feel like some of the Shadow Hearts fic might count lol BUT actually. In recent ao3 memory. Killing Hope is a fic that explores a timeline where Ren sold out his friends in the interrogation room, and now that he's dead and most of the Phantom Thieves are captured, Akechi is setting out to tie up one last loose end. It is 100% a bad time.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Heaven Never Could Describe reunites Maruki and Rumi. Like it could have been even sappier. But it's already pretty sappy.
8. Do you get hate on fic?
Not really. I've occasionally gotten overbearing crit or a backhanded bookmark ("not as good as [different fic with somewhat similar premise]") but in terms of getting outright hate I've been lucky.
9. Do you write smut?
No. Like I have, if you really dig through ao3 and ff.net profiles you can find it, but I barely read it and the stars gotta align for me to want to write it.
10. Do you write crossovers?
No. Occasionally I like to pitch an idea off the cuff but it's rare for one to compel me into writing. Do think p5 x aa fics are fun but I haven't had any particularly strong ideas for one myself.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Not to my knowledge.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No, I haven't had the best luck with partner projects so I always feel like that might just drive me and/or the partner nuts lol
14. What’s your all-time favourite ship?
Tiznes is still pretty nice lol although I feel like OF ALL TIME it'd probably have to be Clerith.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but probably won’t?
Overload would be nice to finish but is probably dead in the water. To be fair to myself, it was spontaneously spurred on by an ask and never did have a firm plot to begin with, just headcanon about what couldcause Ren to have a near-death experience at the end of p5. There were some vague thoughts about how to have him recover/how MUCH he'd recover (one idea was that while he recovers enough to do basic self-care like eating/dressing and can hold conversations and do some simple tasks, it's dicey, at least in the fic's time frame, if he'll ever recover enough to be fully self-sufficient in the future and the team recognizes that and tries to help him have a safety net)/even a thought about pulling in p5r elements (it was started before royal came out but has no contradictions iirc) but at this point. it's easier to say "that was interesting but I don't know how to finish it" and move on.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I feel like I'm fairly good at digging into characters and getting their motivations right?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Getting stuck on projects in ways where I feel like I can't even write like I can string one word to another but I've completely lost any perspective of how anything connects in an interesting way
WHEN THE BRAIN FOG ROLLS IN IT'S LIKE SILENT HILL
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Don't lol
I have done it, in a very old Shadow Hearts fic, but honestly unless the POV character has decent proficiency in the target language they'd have trouble parsing it anyway, and if they're fluent they can just understand and "hear" it as...what it means in the language you're writing in. There are occasions it may make sense but I think most time it's more trouble than it's worth.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Shadow Hearts according to my ff.net profile but that's because I deleted my very first ff7 fic off there lololol
20. Favourite fic you’ve written?
for all the headache it's caused me I do like When the Cat Dragged in the Trickster
for an oldie tho. I like What Crossdressing Says About Character (ff7 fic about Cloud & Aerith in the sector six segment).

Review: Wicked Duet by Persephone Steele
I went in blind with this (no pun intended, I swear!). There were times when I was caught off-guard, that I had to put the book down for a few moments, but that did not stop me from finishing it.
The mystery and the gore made my skin buzz and I was not sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. But I still enjoyed the experience.
Before you proceed, please take note that there will be spoilers in this review. If you haven’t read this duet yet and you want to enjoy the story and get into the ✨mystery✨ vibe, I suggest skipping this one.
Characters
I will start this section by saying these characters were the best among my favorite main characters.
Izabelle Wicked was one of my favorite heroines. She annoyed me with her rudeness, abrasiveness, and arrogance but those were a few of the reasons why I like her. Most of the time I do not like characters who monologue too much, but hers were entertaining. I love being inside her head, so to speak. She was a blind psychic so letting her emotions dictate her actions was shown perfectly in the story.
Lastly, despite having so many doubts and insisting that she did not need the heroes, I loved her thought process when she went about how her mother turned out and then she realized that she did not want to be like her and finally opened her heart.
Now, as for the heroes. I thought I would not like them nor would I care much for them. But they proved to be amazing as well.
Starting with Nicolas De Leon, the leader of the group and the one with anger issues. He was a control freak and a fucking asshole. He would always clash with Wicked (because they were both jerks) but I knew that there was more to him. I was right.
When he started to work on his issues and maturely analyzed what he needed to do to be with Wicked, god, I swooned. I was so annoyed for having a crush on a literal douchebag who was rude and toxic but was also protective and sweet for one woman. Yeah, I like that alot. Sigh, feminism jumped out of the window I supposed.
Next, Kai Zhao is the resident charming pretty boy. I was so sure that he was also going to be a typical manwhore because that was what Wicked thought of him BUT NO! Oh my god, he fell in love at first sight with her and it was so fucking cute. I screamed when I read about that. We were as blind as Wicked in this story since we discovered the truth with her.
Now, I knew that this was dark. But I thought it was because of the crime scenes and how vividly described they are, but man. Kai’s story was fucked up. Like really fucked up and I cried reading about what he had to go through. I also skimmed a lot because I could not handle how clear the picture was inside my head. And knowing how awful his backstory was and seeing how caring and happy-go-lucky he was as a character made me love him even more. I knew people like him who did not let the darkness take over their hearts and remained soft despite all the hardships. He was one of the more perfectly fleshed-out characters that I read about.
Lastly, Ezra Grayson as the deadly quiet guy. He was Wicked’s rock. Unmovable and unbreakable, except for when she was involved. I also thought that he would be a typical quiet protective guy but I was wrong again. He was a polar bear. I likened characters to polar bears who were extremely deadly and could annihilate a person but also were the sweetest marshmallows to their loved ones.
I loved the complexity of his character. He was closed off but also the only one (among the three heroes) who quickly opened up to Wicked. He seemed to be like someone who wanted to remain unseen but he also knew what he wanted and would get it. He always put Wicked first. Frankly, his devotion to her was intoxicating. I wish I could have more words to do his character justice because his characterization was one of my favorites. We love a good paradoxical character.
Plot
Gosh. Where do I even start?
I am not a huge mystery connoisseur but I will say that this was one of the few where I was not entirely sure of my deductions.
I even became suspicious of one of the main characters because I had no idea who the stalker was. The red herring in the story worked out well. Most of the time I would still be able to catch the culprit but I did not this time.
Ending
Despite my dissatisfaction with the stalker not being killed, I understood that it was the perfect form of justice. Not being able to get what they wanted was the best punishment for them.
Again, I would commend the author because I did not see that coming. I was suspicious of that woman (Abby?) and I knew that there was a reason why she was somewhat a constant in this story but I did not expect her to be the stalker. It felt like I was just as blind for not seeing things.
I wanted to say that it did not make sense but at the same time, I knew that was not true. Even when it was revealed that there was a mistress involved, and then later on confirmed that she was a witness to the accident that took away Wicked’s dad and ability to see, I did not think about her being the stalker. My focus was on the chief as the primary suspect. Even when he revealed his reasons, I was still suspicious of him. I ignored all the possible clues.
Ah, I really enjoyed this duet. This was how the mystery stalker books should be.
Rating
I gave this duet a 4 out of 5 stars.
Reading books without looking at reviews beforehand was the best way to go. It did not warp my perspective and I have a clean slate to form my own opinions.
My only problem was getting smacked by vivid descriptions of assault and torture. It was not the author’s fault, of course. I just wasn’t ready. I am familiar with dark fiction and read a lot of it. I also have experience reading extremely depraved pitch-black stuff that will leave you shaking and numb, but I was expecting all of those. Contrary to Wicked, I was not ready. Perhaps because the main character’s quirks took all the spotlight. The ambiance was light enough that I did not expect all that darkness. Then again, it was what I loved about it.

I AM IN NEEDETH OF A PART 3 TO THE SCARED SIBLING READER AND RIDDLE. I NEEDETH MORE PAIN AND HURT (P.S you don't need to do this or if you do plan to do it take your time ) (Your writing is amazing AHHHHHH)
Scared!Younger Sibling!Reader with Riddle Rosehearts: Part 3
Note: Am I concerned with the amount of angst requests I've been receiving? Yes. Am I also loving the angst? Yes.
But, I myself do love a good little angst fic here and there, but man, anon! You wanted FULL ANGST!!
You're wish is my command, anon. You wanted it, you deal with the consequences-
ANYWAY!!
Come and go aboard the ANGST TRAIN!! CHOO-CHOO!! 🚈
But seriously, thank you so, SO much for the support, anon! I'm happy that you enjoyed my writing, even though it's mostly angst 😅.
Also, 🐍 anon and I actually talked a bit behind the scenes about this (though they aren't the original requester), so I sort of based someparts here on their feedback! I hope that this is alright!!
Now, let's get to it!
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 2.5 | Part 3 (here) | Part 4
Warning: Mentions of past abuse and domestic violence, Reader possibly has PTSD and anxiety, Angst with no comfort, Possible OOC, Self-deprecating thoughts, tell me if I missed something
"Mr. Trappola, kindly bring [Name] to their room in the dorm. While the potion is quite harmless, the potion might make them say things that they don't want said. [Name]'s privacy is very important.", you hear Mr. Crewel say to your partner in Potionolgy/Alchemy, Ace Trappola.
"Wha- but!- Hahhh, alright, alright...", Ace says as he starts to take one of your arms and slings it over his shoulder.
You feel dizzy... and tired. Thoughts are circling around your head.
"W-what... happened?", you ask with a soft voice.
"We were working on an experiment for a truth potion. Some dumbass decided it was a good idea and spilled our entire work on you while I was goin' over to Mr. Crewel to have him check ours.", Ace says.
"Oh... I don't feel so good....", you say.
"I know..."
"Do I HAVE to go back??", you ask.
"Yes, [Name]."
"I don't want to... Dorm Leader might be there...", you say, thinking of what Riddle might say when he sees you not in class.
"Dorm Leader..? You call him that even though everyone knows that he's your older brother? You can just call the guy by his name, y'know."
"No... he's scary. And mean. He would always shout and hurt me. He's horrible!", you say.
Wait, why are you saying these things?!
Oh no...
Is the truth potion taking its effect now?!
No...
No, no, no, no, NO!
No!
No one has to know!!
Who knows what they'd say?
Who knows what Riddle would say?
Stop it..
Stop it, please!
Even though you want to stop, your stupid mouth still decides to keep moving anyway.
"Back when we were kids, mother would ALWAYS compare us! It's always, Riddle did this, Riddle did that! And she expects ME to do the same!! We aren't the same person for Great Seven's sake!"
"...", Ace was silent. He's never heard you speak so much before. You also don't seem to like your older brother all that much.
He means, he relates, y'know. But even he acknowledges that Riddle has changed.
"A-and then! Whenever I get something "wrong", Riddle would hit me too! He's mean! He's scary! And most of all, he's JUST like mother!"
No...
Gosh darn it, [Name]! Stop it right now!
No, no, no!!
"And then, ALL OF A SUDDEN, he decides he's going to change for the BETTER?! Oh please, NO ONE changes beliefs like a light switch!"
Ace was even more surprised now. You're practically venting out every single thing about your life.
...how much have you been holding back?
Ace knew that holding in your emotions weren't healthy; so he decided to be the bigger person and just let you let it all out.
So, for probably the first time in his life, Ace stayed silent.
"If anything, what if it's a trap!? What if it's some kind of test?! And the moment he sees me break a rule, it's ALL back to Riddle's Tyrant Mode!!"
"And when I saw Riddle playing with that Clover and Pinka, HOW DARE HE BE ABLE TO HAVE FRIENDS?! How dare HE be able to play and have fun?! Without punishment!? Without getting hit?! Without getting shouted at!!"
---
Mr. Vargas had let off Riddle's class pretty early.
Mr. Crewel had called Mr. Vargas for some help procuring an antidote for the Truth Potion.
Apparently, some student thought it was a good idea to dunk an entire cauldron of the truth potion onto some student.
Now, Riddle would have just shrugged it off, if it was some student.
But no.
It was a Heartslabyul student who got dunked with the truth potion.
And not just any Heartslabyul student.
His sibling, [Name] Rosehearts.
So, Riddle is currently brisk walking his way to Heartslabyul; to check on [Name].
After all, he IS the Heartslabyul Dorm Leader.
And... he wants to get a chance to apologize to his sibling.
He remembers that one time Cater had brought in his fainted sibling.
He had fallen asleep after a while of tending to the unconscious student.
When he woke up, he was alone on the side of his bed.
His bed, empty with only a note left.
Even the glass of water, the rag and water basin were gone.
The note had read,
"Thank you for tending to me while I was unconscious, Dorm Leader. By the time you read this, I am already in my room. I can tend to myself on my own now. And please allow me to be exempted from classes for around 2-3 days until I get better. Once again, thank you, Dorm Leader Rosehearts.
Signed, [Name] Rosehearts, 1st Year"
Riddle knew that the note was purely for formality; it was even written in such a formal way; no one could have possibly guessed that it was from his sibling.
That was 2 weeks ago.
Now, Riddle suddenly hears a loud noise.
It was a school rule not to use such loud noises in the halls; especially when class is still in session.
But then, he hears a couple of words that make him stop in his tracks.
"And when I saw Riddle playing with that Clover and Pinka, HOW DARE HE BE ABLE TO HAVE FRIENDS?! How dare HE be able to play and have fun?! Without punishment!? Without getting hit?! Without getting shouted at!!"
Is that... [Name]??
Was [Name]... talking about him??
Hold on...
[Name] SAW THAT HE WAS PLAYING WITH TREY AND CHEN'YA BACK THEN?!?!
W-was that why they seemed even more quiet than usual back then?
"It's no fair... why does Riddle even DESERVE to have a friend? Why does HE deserve to have fun!? And... why was he always so... frightening?! Does he have NO MORAL CONDUCT WHATSOEVER?!?! He's such an annoying, stupid, selfish TYRANT!!"
...[Name] was the one who got the truth potion dunked on them...
So... is this how [Name] really feels about Riddle?
Do... do they really see him as a monster? A person with no morals?
'I... no, Riddle; they-they're right...', Riddle thinks to himself.
'They're right about you. You're a stupid, selfish, annoying tyrant... who always gets mad over the smallest thing... who hits his sibling for the tiniest mistake... who can't even get his sibling to love him, or look his way...', Riddle adds to this thoughts. Tears filling up his eyes.
"I wish that! I-I wish that he..." He hears [Name]'s voice start to waver.
"I wish that he would just... I don't know...", he hears [Name] start to hiccup and sob.
Hearing his dear sibling start crying, it was as if something had made him cry with them too.
'I'm sorry... I... I am so, so sorry for how you were treated, [Name]... I want to make it up to you... somehow...'
'But... how can I...?'
Riddle knows that his sibling wants nothing to do with him. He's painfully aware that they think that he hasn't changed.
But Riddle wants to change that.
He wants to comfort you.
Say, "It's all okay, I'm here" to you.
Like an older brother should.
But you've gone far too down the rabbit hole that is the trauma of having people constantly criticizing their every move.
And Riddle isn't sure if he CAN get you out.
And he isn't sure if you'd be willing to take his hand so he could get you out.
As he continues listening in, Riddle feels his heart breaking even more.
"And... and everyone's telling me that 'Riddle has changed' and stuff! They tell me stuff like, 'Why won't tou acknowledge that he's changed for the better?', 'He's become similar to the older brother of Heartslabyul'..."
"But I wanted that older brother! I wanted the older brother who would comfort me! And think of creative ways to help you study, instead of forcing you to do one certain method or thing all the time and hitting you. Why do THEY get that "older brother"?! If Riddle Rosehearts has truly changed then... then that means he was always capable of change. And I just... wasn't worth changing for..." (a reference to The Good Place)
Riddle's eyes widened.
Do... do they really think that?
No...
No, it isn't you fault, [Name]...
It was mine...
I should have known better...
I wish I could tell you all these...
But you won't let me in...
No matter how close I get, your walls get even higher.
But...
No matter what...
I WILL get you to listen to my apology.
Even if it's the last thing I do...
END!!!
Another full angst fic!
I hope you don't mind that I made the reference to The Good Place-
If not, I can take it off, just tell me.
And also, please tell me if there is anything wrong here.
And I focused a bit on Riddle here- don't worry, Part 4 will have a bit more of Reader! I hope-
Again, comments and feedback are always appreciated!! Thank you for reading!! 💙💙

Whumpmas in July ‘22, Day 1: (re)Introduce Yourself
Day 1 of @whumpmasinjuly (click here for the complete itinerary)
Helloooooo everybody, lovely to meet you! You may technically consider this as a reintroduction post (for reasons I will soon disclose), but this is also technically a pure introduction post, seeing as I never bothered creating an introduction for myself under this URL :]
You may call me HardyGal or simply Hardy. I used to be an active member of the whump community under the URL @shsl-whump from 2018 to 2020. I then suffered something of an early life crisis and transferred all of my content to a completely new URL, @agentangst, in 2021. By the end of 2021, however, decided to withdraw from the whump community for the sake of my mental health and focus. Both tumblrs are now deleted, and I transferred most of my whump content here, to my main writeblr, at the start of 2022.
With all of that history out of the way, even after pulling back from the whump community for a bit, I still love writing whump. Heck, I was able to be a completionist for Whumptober 2021 last year! So maybe think of this as me tentatively dipping my toes back into this lovely community built around making our beloved characters suffer :3
I love all kinds of whump, but I have a particular affinity for character focused whump. That is, whump that serves to really get at the core of a character or at certain aspects of a character - a tortured man reflecting on how he probably deserves his suffering, a survivor of many terrible things mourning the loss of being able to just live life normally, a broken down leader still struggling through every hardship because that is his duty... just for a few off the top examples.
On a related note, I am big for hurt/comfort. Like, oh hell yeah, I’ll beat the absolute hell out of my favourite characters... But building them back up again, guiding them through a recovery, is just as vital to the whump experience as the actual whump, at least for me.
As far as specific whump tropes go, my top five favourites would have to be:
Captivity/Kidnapping
Whump of those in positions of responsibility (leaders, nobles, older sibling types), particularly those new to that position
Torture (and gosh if that doesn’t make me sound like a psycho lol)
Whump of the "strong cinnamon roll” - the one who is overtly emotional, prone to tears or displays of fear, and yet still remains steadfast and stubborn despite that fear
Team whump
You can expect... well, very inconsistent updates and posts, but when I do update/post! you can usually expect some form of whump from me. Even though this writeblr is not specifically a whumpblr, that’s usually what I tend to write. Even if I’m not writing whump, I am at least writing angst lol
Most of my protagonists are dudes, and my settings vary from espionage/spy type stuff, to fantasy stuff, to urban fantasy stuff... Anything that happens to catch my fancy as far as writing goes :)
Other random stuff about me uhhhhh, I wish to be a voice actress someday! My favourite colour is blue! I was born in one country and raised in another! I have been using the name HardyGal since I was middle school age! I play D&D and Call of Cthulhu!
My Team SA37 series was conceived on my old whumpblr and there are a crap ton of pieces from that series that I have not yet re-published and I hope to get back to the series some time! I am working on way too many projects and have way too many ideas!
*gasp*
Anyway, let’s maybe consider this the end of my introduction. I’m sure I’ll have the chance to elaborate more on myself as this month goes on, assuming I can keep up ^-^’

If you were to sort the Infinity Train cast(s) into the Major Arcana a la the Persona games, which Arcana would you give everyone?
anon I had SOOOOO much fun thinking about this, thank you so much for sending me this. I sorted all the major characters, plus a few other entries, based on a mix of Arcana symbolism, Persona series character archetypes, and general vibes. I came up with answers I feel pretty good about for all but four of the Arcana. (Was really tempted to say Strength is every human character who doesn't board the train because they can handle their problems on their own lol.) This is going to be a long-winded post, so I thought I’d post just the list as an image (which hopefully won’t be too blurry!) rather than wrestle with Tumblr formatting trying to make a short list, and put a big text wall under the readmore talking more about my picks.
If this list does end up illegible, the same info is under the readmore as text! Plus some characters for Magician, Strength, Justice, and Death that I didn’t want to add to the “official” list because they’re more based on headcanon. (Although my reasoning for some of the “official” picks is pretty weak lol.)
One-One as 0. The Fool
Oh my gosh, what am I?
IT is great at fleshing out character backstories and families, so One-One at the beginning of S1 is one of the few characters who really feels like a blank slate. He's got a lot of his baggage back by the end of the season, and I think One and One-One are more similar than they seem at first glance, but S1 does seem to have been very formative for One-One and how he thinks about what he's supposed to be doing and how he relates to other people. So it does kind of feel like his fool's journey.
Alrick Timmens as I. The Magician
The magician begins the journey... by beefing it on a dirt bike, dying, and sending his wife flying off the deep end. Rip.
Alrick was an engineer like Amelia, so I could see him suiting some of the themes of the Magician, like conscious thought and manifesting ideas. His apparent playfulness and insecurity are similar to the Magician characters in Persona.
Kez as II. The High Priestess
“We can’t make this decision for you, Kez.” “You know what to do.”
I thought really hard about making Kez the Magician because just like every Magician since Persona 3, she's dumb, horny, and insecure dlkjasfdkl
(and also her showing up at the start of the story arc and being helpful but also super needy is very Magician)
But the idea of "intuition" really does suit Kez. Sometimes her intuition is as bad as her conscious reasoning, but I think that's a lot because she's so confused about what happened with Jeremy, and Morgan making Kez feel like she did a bad thing by helping him.
Tuba as III. The Empress
She made me feel like I was warm all the time.
Tuba's a mom. Sorry, this one's not that deep, haha.
Simon Laurent as IV. The Emperor
Highest number! I'm the leader now.
Simon has a lot of issues, but the one that felt the most prominent to me was his unhealthy relationship with power, authority, dominance, and rules. Another quote I considered using here was what he said in Grace's memory of meeting Amelia: "I never thought I'd get to see the Conductor with my own eyes. He's perfect! Everything finally makes sense again." In his emotional crisis, he thought everything could be fixed just by the existence of a huge, scary, powerful, male authority figure, even if they weren't doing anything helpful or informative.
Atticus as V. The Hierophant
I like to think that our stones are sturdy and handsome, like the Corgis that crafted them.
Atticus is a figure of traditional authority who deeply loves the history, society, and culture of his people. He often provides spiritual wisdom and encourages Tulip to get out of her own head and engage with the world around her. Also in Persona, Hiero is the Dad Arcana so it's very funny to me (a) to make the little dog be Hiero and (b) that the little dog really does have the strongest Wholesome Dad Energy of the whole cast.
Jesse Cosay as VI. The Lovers
Don't tell me what to do. I'm not going to be a part of anything like this, on or off the train.
This was my first and easiest pick lol, Jesse is sooooo Lovers. Like, the focus on choice and personal values and relationships? Yep, that's Jesse. It works on an "actual meaning of the Arcana" level and a "vibes with the Persona characters" level lol... popular, upbeat, and having such an identity crisis.
Lake as VII. The Chariot
I'm my own person, who is getting off this train!
I don't know if Chariot captures all the ways Lake grew over the course of S2, but I feel like they had the most externally focused conflict of all the IT characters, which suits Chariot. They've been fighting to stake out their personhood from start to finish, and they took action and used their willpower to achieve that goal. Also they have at least a little jock energy which is a prereq for Chariot tbh.
Frank as VIII. Strength
I dunno, I kinda imagine him as a simple man and easily underestimated, but with a lot of heart. The Cat may say they're keeping things casual but I don't think she'd take him with her on her private vacation unless he had some kind of inner toughness that would let him stand toe-to-toe with her.
Morgan as IX. The Hermit
I need to be alone right now. Kez... maybe... we can talk later.
I like that Morgan embodies toxic self-isolation and stonewalling and rejection, but that she seems to be moving towards the positive aspects of Hermit and taking some time to calm down and process and think. I like it when characters can embody the best and worst of their Arcana.
Tulip Olsen as X. The Wheel of Fortune
We have to adapt to the changes in our lives. It's the only way things can get better.
Tulip has a lot of themes and conflicts, but this one is a clear standout as the most important. I also like it for Tulip because, while she has to handle a lot of difficult and even traumatic situations, some of the change that challenges her isn't as unambiguously bad as e.g. the death of a loved one. It really is just change itself she's struggling with, and that's Fortune babey. Also, from the perspective of the train itself and lots of other characters, by reversing Amelia and One-One's positions again and changing how One-One administrates the train, Tulip is the one giving the wheel a spin. That's fun.
Lucy as XI. Justice
One of my friends once described the Justice characters in Persona as "the ones the player character is ultimately accountable towards", and I like to think of Lucy as kind of being that for Grace (...since Hazel has excused herself). Lucy is the Apex kid we see Grace interact with the most, the first Apex kid Grace admitted to herself that she had harmed (see Grace very briefly showing distress and then regret when Jesse points the harpoons at his face and she stops him), and the first person to confront Grace when she came home in The New Apex.
Min-Gi Park as XII. The Hanged Man
I don't know if we'll sell a single album, but we'll figure that out as we go.
Min-Gi sacrifices his "realistic", "sensible" goals for a more personally (spiritually, even?) enriching life that's beyond his control and outside of the expected norm. Like the Hanged Man, who dangles foolishly upside-down, but as a deliberate choice and in a state of serenity and enlightenment. I also think this arcana suits a reading of Min-Gi's character development as starting off going slower as a way to stall and live in denial, but then going slower with deliberation. Compare his arrogant insistence on refusing to act in The Astro Queue Car to his patience and care in The Castle Car and The Train to Nowhere.
Jeremy as XIII. Death
This isn't about the death of his family - I'm thinking of his reluctance to admit his number was going down. He cared about Morgan and Kez, and it's possible both that he may have really wanted to stay with them despite his exit and that that might even have been a healthy choice - they're real ass people with feelings and everything, not holodeck characters. But I also think Jeremy was using his life with them to avoid moving on out of that fog (because it was hard and it hurt and he didn't want to think about what that would mean for him and Morgan) and Morgan was enabling him.
Ryan Akagi as XIV. Temperance
Maybe the experience is the point. I wasn't just rushing you. I was rushing myself.
I think this one speaks for itself. Also, the other quote I considered putting here, from The Art Gallery Car: "You told me I can't appreciate the song without taking in the rest of the album. I need the whole package."
The Cat as XV. The Devil
I always do the right thing.
Honestly, this is one I really wasn't sure about. The Cat isn't a great pick for a lot of the meanings of Devil. She is definitely consumed by material comforts, and the short-term rewards of ignoring her issues at a long-term cost, though. This is more of a "vibes with Persona characters with this arcana" pick... Devil characters tend to start off being somewhat exploitative or even antagonistic towards the player character, and gradually showing a more conflicted and genuine side.
Amelia Hughes as XVI. The Tower
There's a hole in the universe where Alrick used to be.
Amelia's life is defined by catastrophe and upheaval - both those she's suffered and those she's inflicted on others.
Hazel as XVII. The Star
I'm going to keep loving you like you're still here.
When I think of "The Star" as a small but inextinguishable light in the darkness, Hazel seems like the obvious choice. Although we left her deeply wounded, I think she still has a flicker of her hope, faith, and purpose.
Grace Monroe as XVIII. The Moon
But it's unfair for me to tell you how to understand yourself. I mean, I don't even fully understand me.
Grace is probably the most complex and dynamic character on the show and hence one of the most difficult to place. I considered Empress, Strength, Devil, and Judgement for her... I think ultimately, lies and illusions are the most unifying theme of her character arc. Also, from a Persona angle, her pursuit of status out of a lack of true self-worth reminds me of Ai and Mishima.
Alan Dracula as XIX. The Sun
Brought together by the majesty of a superpowered deer!
I'm sorry dkjasfklads this is largely because I thought it was funny to have this completely inexpressive dead-eyed deer as Sun akfk but also... like... it kind of works okay!!! Think about the genuine joy and comfort and positivity he brings to Lake and Jesse (and me)!
The New Apex as XX. Judgement
"Then what are we gonna be?" "Guess we'll have to figure it out?"
This is kind of a Persona mythology gag again because of Judgement being a group social link near the end of the narratives of P3 and P4, when the protagonists have pierced through the lies and actually figured out who the villain of their game is and are ready to really start making progress.
0 as XI. The World
Ah, train does it again!
It's an ending and the completion of a journey, but also the beginning of a new one. And the world is literally what the passengers receive at the end of their train journey. Welcome home.

“the tale as old as time”
The dorm leaders’ reaction to Beauty and the Beast.
-- from @shayclov391
A/N: It was mentioned on this blog a few... weeks ago? How Ai (i, heh geddit) lived under a rock because I haven’t seen Hamilton, Coco and Nightmare Before Christmas. So @shayclov391 (who had originally requested for Hamilton and Coco) asked me for Beauty and the Beast instead. Luckily, I HAVE WATCHED BEAUTY AND THE BEAST! It’s my sister’s favourite Disney Princess movie so... I watched it. A lot.
So how I did this... I sort of picked the parts of the movie where a certain character would react the ‘most’--if that makes sense. So this isn’t arranged how I normally arrange it. ALSO! This interchanges between the animated and live action version. Why? You’ll see!
Please enjoy!
-
You were lucky that you somehow managed to have your phone from your world with you. You couldn’t communicate with the people from your world, nor did you have your world’s internet connection--but at least you had all the stuff already downloaded on your phone... Including a bunch of movies from your world. After hearing you out, Crowley took you to Idia who managed to transfer most of the data on your phone into a new one made in Twisted Wonderland.
Thanks to that, you often watched and, or rewatched some movies from your home world.
You also decided that watching a couple of movies from your world, with your boy wouldn’t hurt... right?
You had easily convinced Leona to relax with you and watch a movie from your home. He was never the type to say no to lazing around after all--and when you had proposed this for a date, he agreed pretty easily.
You had hooked your phone up to the television in Leona’s bedroom. When you turned around to look at your boyfriend, Leona had pushed all the pillows up against the headboard and leant against it. He blinked slowly at you, and raised his arms. You giggled lightly, before you slipped onto the bed, and rested your head against his chest. He wrapped one arm around your waist as the opening dialogue of the movie began.
You peered up at Leona as the narrator told the story of the selfish prince. He glanced down at you as it talked about how the prince turned into a beast.
“Were you trying to say something by choosing this movie?” he said dryly.
“Actually, no. I just really like this movie. Grew up with it.” you said, chin on his chest.
“Huh.” he rubbed aimless circles on your back with his thumb as his gaze shifted back to the screen. You pressed your cheek against his chest, and turned your gaze to the movie too.
As the opening transitioned to the song ‘Belle,’ you felt Leona’s tail twitch around your hips.
“Bonjour~”
“This is... the language that Hunt uses.” You could feel Leona growl, and you--amused--moved your hand to pat his toned stomach (you mentally cursed him too--I mean, how could he have such a nice body, but laze around most of the time?).
“There, there.” you soothed, amused. Leona grunted in response.
“So they think she’s weird because she reads?” He asked, and you nodded your head. “Well that’s stupid.” he grumbled under his breath and you giggled lightly.
However, when a certain hunter was introduced, you quickly turned your head to gauge Leona’s expression.
“She’s the one! The lucky girl I’m going to marry.”
His expression turned from curious to serious. His brows furrowed slightly as he seemed to give a little more attention to the movie.
“She’s the most beautiful girl in town. That makes her the best--and don’t I deserve the best?”
Leona scowled.
“I don’t like him.”
“Uhuh.” you said, your lips quirked up in an amused smile. Leona’s ears twitched backwards, and his tail was thumping in the way it normally did when he was irritated.
When Belle made a disgusted expression at Gaston appearing at her door, Leona looked pleased--you could tell by the way his brows smoothened--and his ears perked up. His eyes narrowed again however--with the way Gaston kept moving to cage Belle.
“I’m very sorry Gaston... but... but... I just don’t deserve you.”
“She’s smart.” Leona smirked as Gaston was thrown out of the house and into mud.
“That’s why she’s my favourite.” you mumbled.
“Me, the wife of that boorish, brainless...
Madame Gaston, can't you just see it?
Madame Gaston, his little wife, ugh!”
Leona snickered at the song, and you laughed too. You always enjoyed ‘Belle Reprise’--especially with the way Belle exaggerated her eye roll and sarcasm.
You turned back to Leona.
“How is it so far?”
“I like Belle.” Leona nodded, “she’s not the same type of strong that Afterglow Savanna has--but her wit is one type of strength.” but then he added--
“Gaston... I’ll kill if he isn’t dead by the end of the movie.”
“Leona!” you laughed.
--
You and Azul decided to snuggle up and watch a movie. Azul offered to put on one of the movies from Twisted Wonderland, but you told him Idia finally finished with your phone.
“We could watch something from my world.” There was a spark of interest on Azul’s expression, and he easily agreed.
Azul had seemed to be enjoying the movie so far. Originally, he was interested because it was a movie from your world--however he began to enjoy it in gusto when the musical number at the beginning happened.
“Are there more songs?” He asked you, his tone eager.
“Yup.”
Azul looked back at the screen, with a glitter of fascination in his eyes. He expressed a little of his disgust at Gaston’s actions, but went silent again as the movie went on.
“Gosh it disturbs me to see you Gaston...
looking so down in the dumps!”
You turned to look at Azul, who had a difficult expression on his face as Le Fou started to sing. He whipped his head to look at you.
“That irritating human... has a song about him?”
“That’s not the worse part.”
“Holy carp is he going to sing?”
“As a specimen, yes I’m intimidating!~”
Azul immediately recoiled into the couch as Gaston began to start singing.
“He’s singing.” Azul exhaled, and looked at you with the cutest confused expression--ever. “Why am I watching this abomination, sing?”
“Well... his vocals are pretty good...” You said, with an amused smile.
“No way. His voice isn’t that good. It’s disgusting.” Azul looked insulted, “I can’t believe I think there’s someone whose singing is more irritating than Rielle’s.”
“Who?” you asked, amused. The name seemed familiar but you couldn’t put a finger to it. Azul waved his hands dismissively as he focused on the film again.
“I’m exceptionally good at expectorating!~”
“He is sickening.” Azul had a disgusted look on his face. “No wonder the girl refuses to marry him.”
When the song finally finished, Azul paused the movie, and you looked at him with an arched bow.
“Tell me he dies. Please.”
“... I refuse to say anything.” you snorted into your palm--way more amused. It was absolutely refreshing to see someone’s first time watching Beauty and the Beast. Who would’ve thought you’d experience it?
“He’s a bully.” Azul’s lips curled downward. “I also feel pretty bad for Le Fou.”
“You do? You like him?”
“Well, not really. But I also don’t hate him. I think he should meet better people.” Azul sniffed haughtily, and you giggled. You figured Azul might actually enjoy the live action because it tried to give depth to Le Fou. (Tried being the keyword. Whether or not it was successful, normally depended on the person watching it.)
“Tell me at least if he’s going to sing again.”
“He won’t. I think the next song is actually pretty fun.”
“Oh thank the Sea Witch.” Azul exhaled, as he slumped back to your side, before he suddenly had a thoughtful expression and turned to you.
“Is it just me, or does Professor Vargas resemble him?”
You immediately choked on your spit and starting coughing. You could your eyes well up as you begin to laugh.
“Hey! Are you okay?” Azul yelped.
‘Don’t... tell him... I shouldn’t... say anything.’ you squealed to yourself as you hunched over.
--
It had been pretty easy to ask Kalim to spend the evening just watching a movie from your world.
And as expected of Kalim, he quickly got super invested in the story of Belle. He would frown when Gaston would appear on screen, but he especially seemed to enjoy Maurice’s personality. He looked uneasy at the sight of the Beast but other than that... He would happily dance in his seat during the musical numbers--he was so precious when he did that, that you found yourself watching him instead of the movie.
In fairness, it was very fun to watch the first time reaction of someone who hadn’t seem Beauty and the Beast.
"The Dining Room proudly presents... your dinner!”
You remembered how amazing it was to see ‘Be Our Guest’ when you were a little kid. The concept of moving dining ware had been so fascinating and hilarious at the same time, that you were slack jawed for most of it--and laughing the other half.
When you tuned to look at Kalim, you can’t help but remember the first time you watched Beauty and the Beast too.
Kalim was slack jawed, his eyes were wide and sparkling happily as watched the animated dining ware began to dance around.
“Try the gray stuff it’s delicious~
Don’t believe me? Ask the dishes!”
Kalim laughed boisterously at that.
“The dinner here is never second best!”
“Since Jamil isn’t here, I have to defend his honor. I’m pretty sure Jamil cooks better!” Kalim told you, with a wide grin. You laughed at that, you’re sure Jamil would definitely love hearing that.
When Lumiere would begin messing around with Cogsworth, Kalim turned to you with a shine in his eyes.
“I think Lumiere is my favourite character.”
“I can see why.” you said, with a grin, as your boyfriend turned back to the television and kept watching the musical.
“If you’re stressed,
it’s fine dining we suggest!”
“Lumiere is definitely right! A sure way to cheer up someone is to have a banquet!” Kalim cheered, his smile wide. As he turned back to the television, he began a running commentary on what he thought--about each of the named dining ware.
“Wait... they used salt for snow? Hahah! That’s so unique!”
“You know... Cogsworth is actually pretty funny!”
“Mrs. Potts is cute! You look gorgeous Mrs. Potts!”
“So is Chip! I would be friends with Chip. I would protect Chip with my life.”
You couldn’t help the smile that spread on your face as you see the way that Kalim was just enjoying himself.
You were glad you suggested this movie first.
“I wonder if Jamil could get dishes to move around like that during the next banquet.” Kalim wondered out loud with glowing eyes.
You immediately winced, and apologized mentally to the Vice Dorm Leader.
You had told him to take a break, and that he could leave Kalim to you... but you could just imagine Jamil’s reaction when Kalim would ask him to make the dining ware dance around with him.
‘Okay... so maybe I shouldn’t have done Beauty and the Beast?’ you thought.
‘Whoops...?’
--
"So this movie has two versions. One is animated, and the other is live action. Since you wanted a film with some fashion--I thought looking at the live action one would be better.” You explained when you had plugged your phone into the television in Vil’s room. “It’s a fantasy story, so the clothes reflect some historical fashion--but they’re not exactly accurate.”
“Naturally.” Vil nodded, his legs crossed, and a glass of freshly squeezed juice in hand. “Let’s see it.”
Majority of the film was Vil just watching, and criticizing some of the fashion choices used.
“The Prince is hideous. Why is he wearing that type of make up?”
“Is that painting how he normally looks? He actually looks fine. He ruined it with the use of make up.”
“Oh, the girl is quite pretty. Is this the same actress from the other movie we watched together?”
“So they made her be the only one dressed in that shade of blue? That’s nice little attention to detail.”
“Red is such a basic color for the bad guy but... go off I guess.”
“Gaston is hideous.”
“Those three girls are hideous too. Why are they dressed like that--nothing is flattered properly.”
“Oh those roses are beautiful. I’ll give them that.”
“The Beast is hideous.”
“Gaston is hideous.”
You sweat dropped as Vil kept making these type of side comments about the film, while gently swirling his cup of juice like it was a glass of wine.
As the plot thickened, Vil did get slowly caught up in the story.
“You’re making everything look so beautiful, we should have a dance tonight.”
You could see the interest in Vil’s eyes grow as the plot moves into one of your favourite scenes--the dance. When the animated objects began to put make up on him, Vil’s eyes twitched.
“Why are they doing that? He clearly has fur? Make up won’t help him.”
“Oh my god, Vil.”
“I’m only telling the truth.” Vil huffed, before he concentrated again.
When the gold floated from the ceiling, and moved to decorate Belle’s dress, Vil made an appreciative noise.
“The detailing is quite nice.... the tiers of the skirt are very pretty too.”
“I think I saw an interview, and they talked about how they wanted the dress to dance beautifully.”
“Well, I’ll be the judge of that.” Vil’s lips curled up.
When the ballroom comes into view, Vil hummed.
“Now that is a ballroom.” He looked at you thoughtfully. “Do you have balls back at home?”
“Nope. I’d love to go to one though.” Vil tilted his head, eyeing you up and down. “I think I can bring you to one.”
“Really?” the excitement on your face made your lover laugh.
“Of course sweet potato. Everyone should experience a grand ball once.”
“Tale as old as time...
true as it can be...”
Once Belle was twisted--her skirt flowed, turned, and seemed to bloom again around her with every single step. Vil’s breath hitched, and you turned to him--to see his eyes were wide.
“Now that is beautiful.” he exhaled. “the way the skirt moves around her... Alright I want one.” You giggled in surprise and he looked at you seriously.
“Sweet potato, I’m going to make you a dress that will beat anything you dreamed off.” you blushed furiously in response.
“I’ll... look forward to it.”
--
"Let’s watch this movie together!” you had told him with a bright smile.
Never able to resist you, Malleus immediately agreed.
“I thought this was one of your favourite movies?” Malleus chuckled as you softly snored away on his shoulder.
“Mal... I love this movie...” you slurred out in your sleep, and he smiled softly.
“I’m sure you do.” he told your adorable sleeping face. Carefully, he moved your head to a pillow on the bed, and he stood to turn the television off.
“It was an interesting film.” Malleus mused, but just as he reached forward to unplug your phone--
“I let her go.”
His head snapped up and he saw that the Beast had decided to let Belle go back home to her father.
As Belle got on a horse to rush back to the village the Beast began to sing as he gazed at the cursed rose.
“I was the one who had it all...
I was the master of my fate...
I never needed anybody in my life...”
Malleus tilted his head, to him these lyrics...
He could understand the Beast very well.
“I close my eyes but she's still there...
I let her steal into my melancholy heart...”
His eyes flickered briefly to your sleeping form.
‘Another thing we share.’ Malleus acknowledged, ‘We both have someone who stole our hearts out of nowhere...’
“Now I know she'll never leave me...
Even as she runs away...
She will still torment me...
Calm me, hurt me...
Move me, come what may...”
He righted himself and moved to your side. He tucked your hair behind your ear--and you nuzzled unconsciously into Malleus’s familiar touch. His smile grew melancholic in response to that.
“Now I know she'll never leave me...
Even as she fades from view...
She will still inspire me...
Be a part of everything I do...”
“One day... you will leave me.” Malleus murmured softly. “As all mortals do...”
“In the first place... I should’ve steeled my heart against you... but I am powerless to your light...”
“Wasting in my lonely tower...
Waiting by an open door...
I'll fool myself, she'll walk right in...”
"Yet... when you leave me... I’ll spend the rest of eternity waiting for you again.”
“And as the long, long nights begin...
I'll think of all that might have been...”
‘Mortal... so painfully mortal.’
he mused.
‘Do you know what you dangle in front of me? The true impossibility of what we share together...’
“Waiting here for evermore...”
He doesn’t move for a long time, as he quietly watched you sleep, peaceful--unknowing of Malleus’s conflicting thoughts.
--
Idia originally hadn’t been very interested in the film you were trying to show him. He kept getting distracted in the beginning, before he got hooked because the castle looked pretty cool to him.
By the time Belle had gone back to the village to save her father, Idia had clutched a pillow tight to his chest as he watched in anticipation--about what was going to happen next.
“Show them the mirror! The mirror!”
“Show me the Beast!”
“Yes!” Idia fist pumped into the air, “she’s giving them proof--”
“The Beast has her under a spell!”
“Wait, no!” Idia gasped, his hold on his pillow tightened. “Noooo! Lord damn it! Gaston shut up!”
On your end you clutched a pillow to hide the lower half of your face--because you were desperately trying not to laugh. At some point you had straight up stopped watching the movie--and instead decided to watch Idia’s reactions instead.
You never thought you’d meet anyone who had never watched Beauty and the Beast, and now you were seeing Idia’s very honest reactions to it.
You almost want to make him watch the original Star Wars trilogy too...
“He’s not a monster Gaston! You are!”
“Yes! Tell him! TELL HIM!”
You inhaled sharply as you tried not to laugh. Idia was really into this. He leant forward as the ‘Mob Song’ started.
“Kill the Beast!
Kill the Beast!”
“Oh my Lord, yes!” Idia exhaled in relief as he saw the castle occupants push to keep the castle doors closed.
“I know what to do.”
“OML... What is Lumiere gonna do...” Idia chattered to himself. When he saw that they had decided to pretend to be inanimate Idia cheered.
“[Name]! This is so cool! They’re so cool! That’s so amazing--!” when Idia whirled to you, he paused because you had clutched your pillow to hide half of your face.
“Why... what are you doing?”
“I am definitely engrossed in the film.” you lie through your teeth, as you struggled to hold back a laugh. Idia eyed you suspiciously, until his attention was caught by Mrs. Potts shouting.
“Grandmother? Attack!”
“You get them Mrs. Potts!”
When Madame Garderobe proceeded to attack that one villager.
“Oh hell yes! Gg! You dead!” Idia cheered happily.
Without Idia knowing, you were just... smiling while staring at how enthusiastic he was being while watching the movie. You began to think of other movies that you think Idia would enjoy.
‘Note to self, see if I can get Idia to watch some more of the movies from back at home... maybe he’ll like Wreck it Ralph? Big Hero 6?’
‘Either way...’ your eyes flickered to your boyfriend as he gave the appropriate reactions at the right time for Beauty and the Beast. ‘I like seeing him relaxed enough to be emotive around me~’
--
“Fight back.” Riddle clenched his teeth and his hands as he stared at the depressed Beast. “You have to fight back.”
‘He’s surprisingly into this.’ you mused.
“Did you honestly think she’d want someone like you, when she had someone like me?”
“Die Gaston.” Riddle hissed underneath his breath.
“It’s over Beast! Belle is mine!”
“No she isn’t!” Riddle gritted his teeth, his knuckles white. When he sees that Beast finally fought back, and was winning--his shoulders slackened briefly. “No... don’t turn back on the enemy... Please...”
“Belle... you came back.”
“Is it over? Is it really over...?” Riddle frantically muttered underneath his breath, and you couldn’t help the smile that spread on your face at how adorable he was.
That is until Gaston stabbed Beast in the back. Riddle’s face turned crimson in an instant.
“Coward!” he yelled at the television screen. When Gaston fell backwards to his death, Riddle angrily muttered underneath his breath how his death was too nice.
As the scene focused on the injured Beast however, Riddle’s mutter fell away as he concentrated on the scene.
“Of course I came back... I couldn’t let them... Oh... this is all my fault... if only I’d gotten here sooner.”
You peered at Riddle as he stared, concentrated on the film, his eyes wide--wet and you were sure he was ready to start crying.
“Maybe... Maybe it’s better... it’s better this way...”
“Don’t talk like that. You’ll be alright. Everything’s going to be alright... You’ll see.”
“At least... I got to see you one last time.”
Beast let out one last breathe--
Riddle started to sniffle.
“I’m not crying.” he choked out. “I’m not crying.”
“You’re not crying.” you pretended to agree, but your lover was shaking as he saw the last petal of the rose fall to the table.
“Please don’t leave me...”
“I love you.” Belle whispered, softly, sadly--
Riddle was for sure crying now.
To think he had originally scoffed, and said he wasn’t interested in a children’s movie...
You had convinced him after telling him how it was considered a classic and was your favourite film--regardless of age.
When lights started shooting from the sky and surrounding Beast, Riddle looked up in awe with red eyes.
“Wait, did she make it? Did they make it?” he croaked out, he looked at you--and you gestured for him to watch.
The Beast--Prince Adam--now transformed back, turned around to show his human face.
“Belle, it’s me.”
Riddle watched with a bated breath as Belle drew closer and looked the man in his eyes. When a glitter of recognition passes through Belle’s eyes, Riddle exhaled in relief.
“It is you!”
“Ah, they did it.” Riddle smiled, relieved as the the other characters changed back into humans and the castle returned to its former glory. When he turned his head towards you, you shot him a grin.
“...”
“...”
“Okay... it’s not bad.”
“Not bad?” you teased lightly, and his cheeks flushed red again--except this time with embarrassment.
“Okay fine--it was really good.”
“Yay!” you hopped up onto your feet and shot him a grin. “I have a bunch more, wanna watch?”
“...Sure.” Riddle said grudgingly, but when you beamed up at him--what he originally thought was a childish waste of time...
became a precious moment you could share together.

Hi hello Can I request pregnancy hcs for Nie Mingjue, Nie Huaisang, and Jin Guangyao? 🥺
Hello, dearie ❤️ Your request has been granted~ I hope you enjoy the fluffalicious headcanons.
P.S. I am just LOVING the fact y'all are asking for NHS. He deserves the world. And gosh, seeing reqs for JGY and NMJ warms my heart.
Nie Mingjue
Have you ever seen a boulder cry? No? Well now you have. The moment he learns you are pregnant, with HIS child, a child symbolising the strong love you have for each other, he'd go deadly soft. No, he wouldn't necessarily cry, but if you squinted you'd notice how his eyes would turn slightly glossy.
For once his constant scowl will actually disappear and he'd look (and feel) genuinely happy.
At first, he'd stay silent, thinking over what you'd just told him, before lifting you up gently (as gently as Mr.Muscle can) and giving you a big hug. Then he'd let go of you, straighten up and resume his previous resting scowl.
"I will do my best to be a good father."
Truthfully, most of the cultivation world didn't think he could even actually keep a lover around for long, much less go as far as to start a family, so news of a little Nie heir would come as quite literally - a shock. Suddenly, the entire world's eyes would be on you, much to Nie Mingjue's displeasure. Because of that, he'd become MUCH more protective of you. The world can be cruel, people can be cruel and life can be unfair, so he'd make sure absolutely nothing can hurt you.
Before he learned you are pregnant, he was already pretty gentle with you, but after telling him - he doubles on the care. He'd randomly come check up on you through out the day under the pretence of having to ask you about your opinion on "very serious matters at hand".
He'd also double on the meditiation sessions, trying to best his anger for the sake of your well-being. In fact, as secretly nervous as he is about the whole situation, somehow the very thought of you and your future child would bring peace to his heart. Though that is something Zewu-jun would conveniently forget mentioning to him. Alas, he'd suddenly remember once the two sat down for a cup of tea.
Nie Mingjue would secretly hope he could teach his child about the art of war and have actual proper sparring sessions, which he couldn't have with his brother. He would occasionally imagine, telling him stories of their ancestors, choosing their saber, showing them all of the Nie traditions and so on and so forth.
He'd also vow not to let his child turn into another Huaisang. (although knowing how complacent Nie Mingjue can be when it comes to his loved ones, spoiling this kid ROTTEN wouldn't be too far from the realm of possibilities.) Frankly, as long as his child can grow up to take good care of themself and the sect, he'd be content either way.
And above all, he'd be thankful, that he ended up with a family made on the foundations of mutual understanding and respect, and a child on the way, which is a symbol of true love.
Nie Huaisang
Denial.
Confusion.
Acceptance.
Does he absolutely love you to death? No questions asked. But the news of a child would catch him completely unprepared, which is fairly uncommon for the all-seeing mastermind that is Nie Huaisang.
Suddenly, saber practice and tests at Gusu seemed like a breeze. That isn't to say he wouldn't be happy, or glad, or proud - believe me, he'd be ELATED. It's just- is he ready to be a father? Is he ready to raise a child? Is he ready to be a ...role-model? Create a legacy?!
"But- I'm trash. What if I can't take care of this child? What if I fail at raising it? What if I'm a dead-beat dad? What if I die suddenly? What if war starts? What if the child doesn't like me? OH MY GOD WHAT IF THE CHILD DOESN'T LI-"
Please save him from his own self-doubt, he's more worried than Wei Wuxian and his self-worth equals that of a washing sponge. In reality, Nie Huaisang is so used to being underestimated, considered a mere spoiled prince, that the determination and unconditional love in your eyes would take him aback. Even more so, the trust you have in him, especially for raising a child, would leave him speechless.
And then would come the realization of the situation - he will be a father. And he will start a family with the love of his life, successfully continuing the Nie lineage. He'd be well-aware of the humongous responsibility that comes with raising a child and after taking a breather, he'd be more that ready to take on the world. And god forbid anybody dares say anything about his family.
After that whole fiasco, things would actually die down. Nie Huaisang is no idiot. The more obnoxious he is, the more unwanted attention he'd bring about. He'd be pretty casual with his care, often just lying with you, making blind guesses about the baby.
Sometimes, just to get a reaction, he'd ask like a spoiled child "are we close now" "are you there yet" and so on and so forth, generally aiming at making you laugh.
He has already made up his mind - once the child is born and is given a name, he'd paint it on the finest wooden fan imaginable. In FACT, getting to teach said child how to paint would his little not-so-secret dream.
As long as you're healthy, Nie Huaisang would more more than content with this turn of events. In fact, he'd be so proud to have you by his side.
Deep down he'd be totally soft and utterly emotional over the fact that he'll be a father, but those are emotions saved for later stages of your life together. (wait till you actually give birth)
Jin Guangyao
Imagine the sweetest, fondest stare in the history of stares ever. That is what you'll first see, once you inform Jin Guangyao of your pregnancy.
"What truly joyful news, my love."
He may be many things, many things indeed, but he isn't unattentive. You are his wife, his lover, the mother of his child and he would take great responsibility for that. He'd take care of you more than ever before, though he's always been extremely considerate.
Any darkness or intent of murder in his heart would dissipate once he sees you, and tripple should anybody so much as look at you the wrong way. After all, he has enough experience in the art of murder to know how to get around.
Living in a brothel with his mother showed him how harsh the world and society can be, so he'd vow to himself to give you and your child the life you deserve. Remembering everything his own father, if you could call him that, had or hadn't done for him, he has been given a good example of what not to do. He's promised to himself to be a good, loving father, who'd raise his child right. Simply he'd want his child to grow up without having to worry about surviving.
He'd fall utterly in love with this child before it is even born. He'd be constantly talking to your stomach, stroking if gently, leaving sweet kisses along your skin. That of course would only happen behind closed doors, yet the more your belly would grow, the more you'd get to spend time with Jin Guangyao.
While he wouldn't make a big deal out of your pregnancy, he wouldn't really hide it either. Lan Xichen, of course, would be first fo know, so he'd quickly come to give the two of you his blessings. Slowly news of the future heir would travel, so Jin Guanguao's overly cautious behavior would double. You'd still be allowed to go outside, of course, he is no monster, (his words, not mine) but he'd require you to go down town only when accompanied by him, or one of your most trusted people. He'd have spies everywhere, all to ensure your well-being.
He'd know almost immediately whenever you'd feel sick or generally uncomfortable because of the baby. And he'd be prepared with natural herbal remedies, massages and a ton of cuddles. Simply, he'd respond to your every beg and call. (I mean- he already does that but shhh)
Despite being, essentially, a criminal mastermind, there is no denying he is intelligent, resourceful, diligent and a good leader, in the core of it. Now, to that list can be added a good husband and a great father. After all, he'd want his child, no matter the gender, to be treated with respect and given all of the love it would require - what he always wanted, yet never received.
Thank you for reading~

Wolf!Ateez Reaction to mating season with their human!mate who doesn’t know they are werewolves
warnings: strong language, smut, dirty talk, oppa kink, unprotected sex, impregnating, bondage, slight possessive behaviour
a/n: again not linked to the other reactions, some of them are wearing contact lenses to hide their changing orbs so their s/o doesn’t recognize
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ kim hong joong ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
As Hong Joong was a alpha the mating season really had a strong effect on him linked to the goal to bear strong pups for a future leader. You being his human mate and totally unaware of your boyfriend‘s ability to change into a wolf and being more sensitive wondered why he again avoided you this time of the year. It happened the last two years, too. You just thought it was a phase where he had to work a lot and simply didn’t have much time left, also not sleeping at home but in an apartment closer to his work, much to your dismay.
The problem was, extacly in this time you also felt different. You endured much more mood swings and missed him a lot. Also your craving for that one thing put you on edge. As soon as you tried to give Hong Joong the signals that you wanted to become private with him he immediately resisted your flirting and left with the most hilarious excuses.
Since two weeks Hong Joong thought your heat ended by now and decided to settle in with you again. Late night he worked downstairs in his office when he heard your little moanings. Gripping the papers tight his eyes closed without his intention and he felt the growing bulge in his pants that ached painfully against the material.
Fucking shit.
His body moved on his own when he followed the small sinful sounds upstairs to your shared bedroom. A delicious smell filled the corridor and he stopped in front of the door. Meantime you were shamelessly touching yourself totally unaware of the werewolf behind the door that listened to his mate.
„Fffuckkk, ngahhh... Jooooong!“
It was just too much for him by now, knuckles going white at how strong his grip was on the door handle. He literally threw the door open with so much force that had you jumping up very shocked. Besides the embarrassment of being caught pleasuring yourself something intrigued you definitely more... Hong Joong‘s eyes weren’t their normal color but changed into a deep golden.
„I could only resist this much...“
▂▂▂▂▂▂ park seong hwa ▂▂▂▂▂▂
Seong Hwa has always been a controlled wolf with a high will to protect you at all costs so he also tended to leave you in mating season. It wasn’t a secret that you were probably a little clingy to your tall boyfriend, always happy when he came home or picked you up from somewhere. Your favorite place was in his lap and arms, Seong Hwa would lie if he denied that he didn’t like it, too. Of course you were his little angel and he didn’t want you to be scared of his real nature, well, that’s why he didn’t tell you about it.
Unfortunately mating season was the most painful experience for him within the year, because you being whiny and so desperate cried the whole time he left you alone. He felt bad, his animal instinct telling him he should make you feel better especially because you didn’t know why you felt this way...
It all changed when he he received a call from you that you had hurt yourself and couldn’t move. Seong Hwa immediately panicked at the thought of you being injured and drove to your house as fast as he could.
„Y/N?! Where are you, angel?!“ He searched every room for your form but when he opened the door to your bedroom he knew you tricked him.
„Oppa, I missed you...“ There you were placed on your knees on the fluffy blankets a pink lace lingerie decorating your curves and inviting Seong Hwa to just take you here and now.
„Y/N...“ Oh no, he felt his wolf urging him to do something and closed his eyes to concentrate on anything other than your sweet arousal that was dripping down your thighs. How desperate have you been to be this wet already? He’s such a bad mate...
„Pl - please, I am begging you! Take care of me... I miss you so much and my body is burning it - it‘s almost painful!“
You started sobbing in front of him, this definitely was enough. He took a hold of himself and emerged your form with confident steps.
„I am so sorry, angel... Oppa is never going to leave you like this anymore.“
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ jeong yun ho ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
Yun Ho usually was a very happy and positive person in every matters and when it came to your heat he really had his fun. Usually he tried to wear contact lenses in your presence and preferred to only pleasure you the whole season. This way he wasn’t able to lose control so easily because when you were satisfied in your needs his urge to let his wolf take control faltered.
Again this time he didn’t have problems with hiding his secret by to eating you out on the kitchen table when in real you just wanted to prepare the breakfast together. What he definitely didn’t plan were your next words.
„Yun Ho! Oh my gosh, y - you are sooo good in this! Ahhh...“
Of course he was, everytime he used the opportunity to try out new techniques and he enjoyed it maybe a little bit too much waiting for your reactions because of flicking his tongue in another way. And you tasted so good, the best dish for a good morning. Your needy moans and flinches only pushed him further to do his best and let him enjoyingly hum at your sensitive bud.
It was expected that the oral sensation you were receiving couldn’t date you forever... so after feeling your third orgasm coming through you knew something more had to be done.
„Yun Ho, I - I want you...“ His eyes widened at your unsteady statement and he pulled away from your entrance licking his lips off your digits in the process. He looked to the ground an debated.
Come on... only this time! Look at our beautiful girl! She needs our dick!
Stupid wolf, but maybe now the right time was?
„Yun Ho! Please, do something!“
„Shhh, Y/N. You really want this, huh?“ You nodded dizzily at him still feeling the sparklings of your orgsam.
„Huh, then use your words and I will give you everything you want!“
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ song min gi ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
To be honest, Min Gi became exceptionally frustrated at mating season. It wasn’t easy for him to refrain his outgoing mate, because you indeed had to endure heat pulsings that were enormous. He already asked his friends about their human mates and how they coped with the situation. But he knew you weren’t like the other girls and needed a special treatment.
To say it bluntly, you became a brat during mating season and Min Gi was clearly sick of holding back to fuck some sense into you. Eventually his wolf was exhausted after some time and Min Gi had to bondage you to the bed because you just didn’t stop grabbing his cock and kissing his neck.
„Why are you like this?! What man let’s his girl hang on when she’s needy? Since three weeks you’re avoiding me! Now let me free and I will just find a guy in a bar tonight!“
Another man touching his mate? How delusional of her. Of course you didn’t really meant it but mates could be easily triggered also if you were human. Your sexual frustration made it to a point where touching yourself wouldn’t help anymore.
„Say that again.“ Min Gi leaned over your sweaty form on the bed and heavy breaths left his mouth. You could swear you saw a slight growth of his teeth but pushed away the thought immediately when he screamed at you.
„SAY THAT AGAIN!“
„Min - I didn’t mean to - “
„Little brat! It’s time to punish you for being so disrespectful!“
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ kang yeo sang ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
Yeo Sang was quite shocked his mate turned out to be human knowing exactly what that meant for his primal instincts. He didn’t know how the first season with you would turn out but he didn’t want to hurt you at all costs. Wolves could be quite violent during sex and especially their heat with their partners so he sticked to getting out of your sight everytime he could make out the gorgeous scent of your body like some of the others did with their own human mates. Usually Yeo Sang managed to skillfully change into his wolf and run back to his pack where he would be safe from your eyes. You on the other hand found yourself often searching the house for your missing boyfriend sometimes only finding a quick note from him.
Today you already awakened with sticky clothes to your body exactly knowing it was this strange time of the season again. It happened regularly throughout the year you thought Yeo Sang looked especially cute or even hot, only a little eye blink with his beautiful lashes letting a chill run down your spine.
Watching him deliciously eating his pasta you couldn’t stop thinking about how his lips would feel on your body but you knew he acted different this morning, too, meaning nothing good for your desires...
You carefully stood up pretending to get something from the kitchen when you made a swift move and landed on his lap. He layed down his fork and looked at the wall ignoring you hard.
„Sangie...“
„I am not in the mood.“
He pushed you off and ran to the bathroom and closed the door. You followed him slightly pissed and banged against the door yelling his name and asking what the fuck was wrong with him again. You heard some shuffling and then nothing?
„Yeo Sang? What’s wrong?“ You could’ve swear the window was open so you speeded outside to look for yourself and indeed it was. Your anger raised and so your heat. Something nudged against your leg und you tripped over and screamed fully at the large creature over your form.
„Oh my god! Please don’t eat me!“ You shielded yourself on the ground with your arms in front of you and just hoped it would leave you by. But instead it neared you and whimpered a little bit. You peeked our of your arms and gasped.
„Huh? A wolf?“ Yeo Sang couldn’t just run away when he smelled your heat in the forest and knew it became stronger by making you angry. In this form his wolf had a stronger will and his sense just doubled themselves making it unable to ignore your sweet fragrance and aura.
The bond pushed you to the wolf although you were totally scared but when you looked into his eyes something seemed familiar...
„S - sangie...?“
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ choi san ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
San didn’t hold back during mating season because your and his cravings for each other were natural for him. The only thing he was afraid of was the fact one day he had to tell you that he was a werewolf, at least when you would bear your first child for him and someday it would change in front of her eyes.
Anytime you got into heat the two of you nearly never left the house jumping on eachother all the time. He honestly tried to give you hints that he wasn’t like you at all. You just thought he was a beast in bed with all the growling and biting in your neck eyes always watery and mind blissful because of the high pleasure he gave you.
„Y/N! Baby, look at me! I want to see your pretty eyes when I am pumping my pups into you!“ Well, you thought he was kinky. Nothing more...
„Y - you’re wearing contacts lenses t - day? Ahh, fuck, San!“
He pounded endlessly into you holding your knees up with his warm hands in a tight grip. Sweat tickled down his forehead and already wettened his hair. He smirked, grunts leaving his parted lips and licking them at the sight of his mate in front of him. She was totally defenseless in his arms just like he wanted it.
Suddenly he stopped and leaned down to catch her questioning eyes with his.
„Look at me, those are not lenses.“
Just when he thought you would get the hint after some time of thinking and hard breathing passed you lifted one eyebrow.
„Oh shut up little delulu - now continue I was so clooooose!“
Maybe not this time, bro...
▂▂▂▂▂▂ jung woo young ▂▂▂▂▂▂
Woo Young loved your behavior in heat and so did his wolf. You often wear the most sinful lingerie for him and acted like a needy cat for your mate. He didn’t need to smell or feel your changing in demeanor to know mating season began and it definitely was the best time of the year for him. But you, too, didn’t know your boyfriend was unhuman, and he liked to keep it like that. He didn’t really was afraid you would find out but he put so much effort into the relationship to not let you find out about the destined pull it could destroy a lot.
As Woo Young was a quite sneaky and playful boy he found a good solution to let his wolf take control during the sex and to hide his secret. You just thought he had a really dominant phase once or twice a year and already looked forward when the play time came by again.
His best strategy to fuck you at night: turn the lights out and have you screaming his name until you didn’t thought about the marks all over you body the next day again, or at day time: his favorite thing to cuff your wrists and put on a blindfold.
You were to distracted by his sinful touches and praises to think about the fact this felt like a fifty shades scenario and you didn’t need to be embarrassed about your and Woo Young‘s kinky behavior because your boyfriend tended to exaggerate things more like you.
This one night you could remember he seemed to have put on orange looking contact lenses and pretended to be a ‚werewolf‘, it seemed like he put much effort into the costume as he really had something animalistic back then.
„My mate...“
„Oh god, fuck right there Woo Young! Deeper!“
„Tell me you’re mine!“
„I - I am yours Woo! Only yours, forever!“
You screamed out his name multiple times as he skillfully reached and penetrated the sweet spot deep inside you already poking against your womb. Woo Young could only chuckle at your naivety but also was thankful for it. Like this, he could keep his act on a long time without having to miss any little thing of a good mating season.
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂ choi jong ho ▂▂▂▂▂▂▂
It wasn’t surprising Jong Ho received a quite intelligent mate from the moon goddess and he had to admit he enjoyed watching you trying to figure out his unnatural strength and senses also like your own feelings.
It started with telling him you felt a much deeper love like for him like you ever did for your ex-boyfriends before and that she knew he was someone really special for her. The wolve‘s heart swelled at your words and confession but also he felt a little bad for not telling you the truth.
In private he called you his ‚soulmate‘ which you found utterly cute but Jong Ho knew it meant so much more. He wanted to help you to find out for yourself what he was and why you felt so different at mating season living through the most embarrassing cravings that you tried to hide from him.
He didn’t think it would be so hot to see you struggling because of his presence and he was just too good in hiding his own desire from you making everything really hard.
When you sat inside the big library of his and his friend‘s mansion you came across a book about mystic creatures. You blushed at the next words not daring to read any further when suddenly the door sprung open.
Jong Ho smelled your arousal outside in the garden and couldn’t resist to look after what caused your sudden hotness. He stood behind you and read the sinful things you just read on his own. He made a move to put you on his lap and stroked your hair with comforting motions.
„Why don’t you read it out loud?“ You shivered at his husky voice and wished you could get out of this situation.
„Th - the mating season makes both male and female mate craving and earning for the sexual release through their partners and...“
„And?“
„Jong Ho... this cannot be real right?“
A moan left your lips when he pressed a light kiss on your shaking lips and his eyes turned into a rich golden color.

Sanders Sides AU-gust Day 18: Bodyguard
When Logan signed up to be the bodyguard of a wealthy (and questionable) man’s son, he thought it would be an easy job. Just sit in the background and make sure the kid doesn’t get killed. He didn’t expect the kid to be his age. Or flirty. Or dating his ex. Logan POV, eventual Analogince with parental Moxiety
Day 17 | Masterlist | Day 19
Logan sighed as he twirled the ballpoint pen between his fingers. He was sitting in the middle of a cafe, filling out a crossword puzzle. He took a sip of his chamomile tea and bit back a grimace. It was exceedingly bitter; the coffee shop he normally went to served much better drinks. But he wasn’t here because of the drinks. He briefly looked up from his crossword to quietly observe the real reason he was here. On the other side of the cafe, scrolling through his phone while he sipped on an iced coffee, sat Virgil Tempest Sanders, son of Patton Sanders and heir of Sanders Financing.
Logan thought back to everything leading up to this moment. Before this, Logan was commonly hired to take out corrupt politicians and gang leaders. So when he got a call from Patton Sanders to be a bodyguard, he was shocked to say the least. Patton Sanders was seen as the epitome of goodwill; he frequently donated to charity, has never spoken ill will towards anyone, and always had a smile on his face. So it was extremely odd for him to contact an assassin who was frequently hired by much more sinister individuals. But apparently Logan’s skills impressed Mr. Sanders enough to provide Logan a more permanent (and well-paying) job.
The job was simple: shadow his son any time he was out of the house. Virgil was kept on an extremely short leash after he was ‘kidnapped’ 5 years ago. He was only gone for a few months, but it was enough to essentially put him on house arrest. Virgil was only allowed to be out of the house between 10 AM and 5 PM. Mr. Sanders paid Logan to watch Virgil during these hours. When Logan had first learned about the job, he’d nearly scoffed in disbelief. He didn’t want to be babysitting a child! But after hearing about what wages he’d earn, Logan quickly changed his tune.
It was also shocking to learn that Logan actually wasn’t babysitting a child. Virgil was 23 years old; shockingly close to Logan’s own age. The age surprised him for several reasons. First of all, why was Virgil kept on such a short leash at 23 years old? Sure, he was kidnapped for a few months (which Logan doubted was an actual kidnapping. It was more likely that Virgil ran away) but that still didn’t warrant such restrictions for an adult. Second of all, Virgil still looked like a teenager. He had an extremely youthful face, with large brown eyes hidden beneath an oversized purple hoodie. He was actually quite attractive, almost as attractive as-
Logan figuratively shook the thought away, attempting to focus on the crossword puzzle. There were a few words that he was stuck on, but he was most likely going to stay here for a while. One of the perks to this job was that Virgil only tended to go to four places: this cafe, the local library, a small music store on the other side of town, and the local park. Still, Logan had been following this pattern with Virgil for the past two months. A small part of Logan, the part that smiled slightly when he managed to shoot someone directly between the eyes, wished that something would happen to spice things up-
“Amir.”
Logan looked up and was surprised to see Virgil leaning over his shoulder, staring at the crossword puzzle. “What?”
Virgil smirked. “‘First name that can mean ‘prince.’’” He took the ballpoint pen from Logan’s hand, which he had been lightly nibbling on. Logan bit back a gasp as Virgil deliberately ran the pen against Logan’s bottom lip before using it to write ‘AMIR’ on the crossword.
Logan examined the paper and was surprised to see that it was the correct answer. He blushed as he turned back to Virgil, who had a smug look in his eyes. “Th-Thank you, Mr…?”
Virgil smiled, settling down in the seat across from Logan. “Call me Tempest. And you are?”
Logan smiled at the use of Virgil’s last name. He felt like he should at least reciprocate. “Adstrum.”
Virgil smirked. “Glory. Immortality.” He gives Logan a once-over before practically purring. “Divinity.”
Logan blushed at the implications. “I’m sure my parents meant ‘star’ when they named me.”
Virgil laughed before his expression darkened. “So, how much is he paying you?”
Logan put on a faux-innocent expression, but on the inside it felt like his blood had turned to ice. Mr. Sanders specifically said that Virgil couldn’t know about Logan unless absolutely necessary. Logan thought he’d been subtle and inconspicuous. “Who is paying me, exactly?”
Virgil sighed. “My father. Look, you almost fooled me at first. If I wasn’t always watching my back, you would’ve fooled me. But nobody ever visits this cafe because their coffee’s shit.” He gestured to Logan’s tea. “And I’m guessing the tea is too judging by how much you face screws up when you drink it. You could’ve been just a regular customer, but I’ve seen you at the library and the park, and I don’t doubt that you were at the record store too. And the people around here get really gossipy, so I knew that you were only here on the days that I showed up.” He leaned back in his chair, a smirk on his face. “So I’ll ask again: how much is he paying you?”
Logan looked him in the eye before sighing. “Too much to say no.” He carefully folded up his crossword puzzle. “Though I’m quite uncertain as to why this job exists in the first place. You obviously have no intention on running away again-”
“Running away?” Logan looked up to see Virgil confused and slightly angry. But Logan had dealt with enough people to see the acting for what it really was. “I was kidnapped and held against my will!”
Logan scoffed. “Kidnapped?” He straightened his tie as he spoke. “You disappeared in the middle of the night from a building whose security rivals the White House. There was no sign of struggle, nor was there a ransom note. Either your kidnapper was an extremely intelligent individual who wanted more than just money from Mr. Sanders, or you left on your own free will. And judging by my observations and personal experience, I’m inclined to believe the latter.”
Virgil stared for another moment before laughing. “Well, would you look at that! You’ve got a brain to match your bark. And I assume you bite, too. Because there’s no way you’re some random civilian. So, what’s your real job?”
Logan coughed. “I must admit, I’m not used to having my job description be, ‘keep client alive. ’”
Virgil blinked, and Logan suddenly felt like he’d said something wrong. “You stressed the word alive. ” Now it was Logan’s turn to blink. “You wouldn’t need to stress it unless there was something specific about keeping them alive.” His eyes suddenly lit up. “Are you an assassin?!”
Logan blushed. “Essentially. But now I am your bodyguard.”
Virgil vibrated in his seat. “How many people have you killed? Do you usually kill good people or bad people? Or does it only depend on the money? I wouldn’t blame you for that. The economy sucks.”
Logan chuckled. “I mainly target corrupt politicians and gang leaders. I turn down any jobs that involve families or children.”
Virgil mouthed the words ‘corrupt politicians and gang leaders’ before gasping. “Do you know Logan Croft?”
Logan blinked. “How do you know that name?”
Virgil gasped again, stars in his eyes. “Are you Logan Croft?” Logan decided to nod his head. Virgil already knew about his job, and his father was paying Logan. It wouldn’t hurt to give out his name, just this once. “Oh my gosh, you’re the guy who killed Jacob Smith four years ago! How did you do it? They say he was impenetrable behind his gang and-” Suddenly his phone ringed. “One moment, please.” He pressed the phone up to his ear, and Logan could hear his boss’ muffled voice on the other end, though he couldn’t understand what he was saying. “Hey, Dad. Yeah, I’m at a cafe. Yeah, I can come home for lunch. See you then. Bye.” He turned back to Logan with a grimace. “Sorry, I’ve gotta go. Maybe we can have a full conversation next time?”
Logan nodded. “I ask that you don’t tell Mr. Sanders about our conversation, or that you know about having a bodyguard. I’m afraid he might fire me if you do.” Or expose me to the world.
Virgil nodded. “Of course!” He stood there awkwardly for a moment. “Well, you know where I am… see ya, bye!” And with that, Virgil walked out of the cafe. Logan waited a few minutes before following. It was just to make sure that Virgil got home safe. It was part of his job, after all. It wasn’t because he found Virgil interesting and funny and cute-
Logan frowned, shaking away the thought. He would not get attached to Virgil. It would only serve as a cruel reminder of Roman. Roman and Logan had met in middle school and dated for several years. But Roman had fallen in love with another man a few years ago. And while Logan is polyamorous, it was dangerous enough to be attached to one civilian. So, they broke up on friendly terms. Logan had never felt so… empty, after leaving Roman. It had felt like Roman had taken Logan’s ability to be happy. Logan hadn’t fully smiled or laughed since their breakup…
Except for today, when he’d talked to Virgil. Virgil reminded Logan of Roman. He was charismatic, sarcastic, and funny. And with every butterfly that formed in Logan’s belly, a new knife stabbed him through the heart. Being with Virgil would only remind Logan of what he could no longer have with Roman. So, Logan would keep his distance (even if he could no longer do so literally).
---------------------------------------------------
When Virgil got home that day, he had a brief lunch with his father before retreating to his room for the day. Once he got there, he immediately pulled his phone out of his pocket and started texting his boyfriend.
V- (3:05 PM) Hey, your ex’s name was Logan Adsrum Croft, wasn’t it?
R- (3:06 PM) Yeah, why?
V- (3:06 PM) Guess who my hot new bodyguard is ;)

RWBY V8 CH1 Thoughts2
- I didn’t know what to expect from the first episode of v8 but the one thing I was certain of was that we’d start with a Salem/Cinder scene and then transition into an Ozpin/Oscar scene cos like. They do that a lot. And welp, guess I was right. Gotta love those immortal/vessel relationships am I right
- okay, the entire mood of being an Oscar Pine fan is wanting to wrap him in a blanket and feed him soup, and 1/2 ain’t bad, so props to you Mole Man. Literal strangers will meet Oscar and within 10 seconds of knowing him be like “I must take care of him” like he automatically kicks in people’s parental drive to 100
- pfffggbbttt oh wow, some Oscar fans I know where DESPERATE for him to have some kind of solo arc away from the group so he could shine on his own, even for just one episode. But nope, Ruby’s right there already. And that makes way more sense, I mean for one he still had his ear communication piece with him, and Oscar knows he can’t save Atlas on his own, that they all have to work together, so him trying to lie low and go all lone wolf just doesn’t suit his character or the themes of the show in general (don’t worry though, he’ll be forced to have a solo arc if he gets kidnapped by Salem)
- “every choice I’ve made has been the wrong one” okay it’s normal for Oscar to be doubting himself and feeling like he can’t trust in his own decisions after going through a traumatic experience of literally being shot by someone he let his guard down to, but BOI THE ONLY WRONG CHOICE YOU MADE WAS GOING TO FACE IRONWOOD ALONE. EVERY OTHER CHOICE PROVED YOU WERE DIFFERENT THAN OZPIN, THAT YOU WERE BETTER. THAT’S WHY HE CAME BACK! I really, really, hope that Mr I’ve Made More Mistakes Than Any Man, Woman And Child Alive On This Planet sets Oscar straight on this so he can help Oscar to have faith in himself and not repeat the same mistake of being paralyzed by guilt and feeling like he can’t trust others or himself.
- I was so caught up in the excitement of having Ozpin back that I forgot that yeah, Oscar’s going to have some conflicted feelings towards him and his return, and that’s only natural. I think Oscar deserves a 1:1 with him more than anyone and with how tense and stressed everyone is I think that’s the best move to clear some things up with Oz before letting everyone else know that he’s back or fully accepting him back into their group (Bets on Yang being the first one to find out that Oz is back though)
- Oh, that’s the first time we’ve seen Oscar communicate with Oz in his head, without speaking out loud. That’s. Hmmmm.
- Okay, I thought they’d be conflict between Yang and Ruby about her decisions as a leader, but I wasn’t expecting EVERYONE to be having their doubts in her leadership. My poor girl.
- I’m really really liking how we’re exploring these different sides to Penny’s character. Seeing her be more solemn, angry and assertive. Even if part of that is rooted in her being in a really low place right now, riddled with guilt and uncertainty and burdened with responsibility, both of a role she gave up in cutting ties with the Atlas Military and General Ironwood, a place and position she’s been the most familiar with almost her entire life, that conditioned her into the “Ideal Lone Perfect Hero” mentality as the Protector of Mantle, the uncertainty in the choices she made about becoming the Winter Maiden, feeling she obtained a role that wasn’t meant to be hers (and it was Penny oh my gosh Penny IT WAS) and taking that away from Winter, while also figuring out how she’ll move forward and act as the new Winter Maiden and just... PENNY
- glad to see everyone’s a member of the Penny Polendina Protection Squad this volume
- just realized that this is the first time Oscar and Penny have liked, actually interacted with one another. And as a useless BrightEyes shipper I’ll take my crumbs where I can thank you
- Highlight of this episode is definitely Ruby taking Ironwood’s call from Penny saying Actually Me And My Awesome Girlfriend Are Going To Save Atlas AND Mantle, AND ALL OF REMNANT, So You Can SUCK IT JAMMY BOI (what do you mean that’s not what happened that’s totally what happened)
- In all seriousness the Nut and Dolts vibes were strong as hell this episode and I am LIVING
- hnnnngggh I’ve got a whole lot of feelings about Blake’s look between Ruby and Yang and the layers there. She’s the most concerned about the conflict between the two, and I’ve always felt that out of WBY Blake has always been the one who respected and took Ruby the most seriously as a leader, and in part sees her younger idealistic self in her, so I hope she’d be able to relate to her current struggles and try to mediate between the two sisters by talking to Ruby. There’s also the fact that in the last volume Blake and Yang have been joined at the hip, trying to make up for lost time, and this is their first time willingly splitting up. I kind of hope this helps them rethink their relationship on a deeper level and what they want from it, but in all honesty in terms of romantic relationships I’m expecting Ren and Nora to get the most focus and development this volume, judging from the OP. I just can’t switch my bumbleby shipping brain off though and I would just Like To See Them Say Goodbye or Have A Reunion Where They Kiss

————————————————————–
Jay Conner (00:00): Well, hello there. And welcome to another episode of Real Estate Investing with Jay Conner. I’m Jay Conner, your host also known as The Private Money Authority. And I’m so excited, the guests that I have on today’s show, we’re going to be talking about finding deals. You know, that’s the two, one of the two most popular questions that I get as I train and coach other real estate investors. The first question is how do I get money for my deals? The other question is, is how do I find the deals? Well, I’ll be introducing my guest here in just a moment. So you want to be sure to stick around for the entire show, because we’re going to be diving deep on what’s working today on finding the best and most deeply discounted deals. So if you’re new to the show, a very special welcome to you here on the show, we talk about all things that relate to real estate investing.
Jay Conner (01:01): As I said, finding deals, funding deals how to sell houses fast, how to automate the business. So you’re running it, It’s not running you. So we love your feedback. If you haven’t subscribed to our show yet, be sure to like share and subscribe and leave us a five star review if you can. And so, as I said, we talk all things real estate investing. Now, if you’re new to the show, you may not know why it is that I’m known as The Private Money Authority. Well, from 2003 to 2009, I was investing in single family houses here in Eastern North Carolina, January 2009, I got cut off with no notice from the local banks. Well, very quickly I learned about what private money is, and I’m not talking hard money or hard money brokers. I’m talking about doing business with individuals who loan us money from their investment capital or their retirement accounts.
Jay Conner (01:57): That’s a whole another subject right there. So I learned about private money. I was able to attract over $2 million in less than 90 days. And since that time I have not missed out on a deal for not having funding for my deals. Well, if you’re a brand new real estate investor, never done a deal before, or you are a seasoned real estate investor, my guess is you can use some more funding. That’s got nothing to do with your credit, your experience, nothing to do with what you know, it’s got nothing to do with traditional banks or mortgage mortgages or lenders. This is all a different kind of funding. And so I’m got a gift for everybody right here on today’s show. And that is I’m going to give you 33 days of access into The Private Money Academy membership. So, here’s the way this works.
Jay Conner (02:48): I’m live training twice a month, all the Academy members on how to get funding for your deals and all kinds of education is in the membership side as well. So here’s how can take advantage of getting three free days, 30 days for free at www.JayConner.com/Trial. You go on over to that website after the show and sign up for your free access. And I’ll be looking to having you on the next Zoom coaching call. Well, on today’s show, I’ve got a very, very good friend to join me here. And he’s got over 20 years experience on all different kinds of methods on finding deeply discounted houses. Well, he started his real estate investing career all the way back when he was only 14 years old, and he’s also a fellow North Carolinian.
Jay Conner (03:47): I’m here in Eastern North Carolina. He’s from the Western part of the state. Well, he’s been doing real estate full time since 1998. He’s been involved in over 3000 house transactions all across the country. And he has been speaking on stages and five countries with audiences sometimes over 7,000 people. Well, he’s way too young for me to say this next statement, but he’s been retired down in Arizona, all this year. He’s married with two kids, got a 15 year old and a 9 year old. Well, he’s not retired, he’s staying busy. Well, let’s bring him on out of the green room. My good friend, welcome to the show, Mr. Chad McCall. Hello Chad.
Chad McCall (04:33): Hey, Mr. Jay, how are you buddy?
Jay Conner (04:35): Man, I am doing fantastic. And mercy. I see a great big smile on your face does that got anything to do with you just like working whenever you want to these days?
Chad McCall (04:46): Oh my gosh. I think I’ve gotten busier since I was joking around saying, Hey, I’m retiring down to Arizona because of the land of Arizona, from where I came from, I was like, it’s retirement country, but I’ve gotten busier this year. And I’ve only been here since January and Man, 2020. It’s nuts, but it’s gotten busier for me. As you can see, my hair keeps getting more and more gray. Yeah, I’ve got more gray hair than you do, Jay.
Jay Conner (05:09): Hey look, that’s not great. That’s like some beautiful white hair you got going on there Chad. Well hey look, I want everybody to go ahead and know right now. So they stick around to the end of the show. You have got a book. In fact, show them the book that you put together. It’s like a great big coaching manual. It’s a real estate playbook. You got 101 ways to find discounted houses. And we’re going to let everybody know how they can get that book at the end of the show. But in the meantime, I’ve asked you before you came on here to share with us, what are some of the top ways that’s working right here today, this year on finding deeply discounted houses. So I’m going to let you roll with it, Chad, and you know, talk about the different strategies that you want to, and I’ll interrupt when I think it’s the right time to interrupt you.
Chad McCall (06:02): Great, no problem. Well, it kind of started out like years ago, Jay it’s, you know, like you, you talk about money lending and the importance of funding. Well, I started realizing that if I go out there and I start trying to find money to do deals, the guys that had the money, when I started out as a kid, I didn’t have the money. So I was thinking what’s going to really make them want to give me money because who am I? I’m a kid at the time, right? I’m young. I have no it’s really experience. I wasn’t seasoned enough. I wasn’t old enough. I didn’t have this gray hair that gave me instant credibility with these lenders. I was saying, Hey, what’s it going to make that the ability for them to give me money to do a deal? And I kept hearing that they want a better deal.
Chad McCall (06:50): Hey, Chad, we gotta have a good deal. We got to have a really, really good deal. That deal doesn’t look as good. And I was like, well, donor, I need to find good deals. How can I find good deals? I started really thinking about ways to eliminate the middleman, eliminate realtors, a lot of times eliminating other wholesalers, you know, getting down to the, really the bottom of the deal, where you’re talking with homeowners a lot of times, and as I’m going through this journey, that’s where this playbook was really created. So being involved with thousands of transactions with my partner, we scoured the country. We were looking at every possible State, County, City, whatever we could do to find really good deals. And all the strategies came from just experience of doing something, you know, actually applying it. And we started thinking of, do we need the internet?
Chad McCall (07:43): Do we need softwares? Do we need all of these other tools and resources that are out there? Those are all great, but it kept coming back for me to think, as I was doing it, I did it as a kid. I did my first house at 14 years old, the internet wasn’t available back in 1991, you know, there wasn’t Google to go out there and search for a deal to try to find a motivated seller and all these other things you can do online. It was different back then, but the population was still hundreds of millions of people. You’re still talking about 350, some million people probably back then. And so deals were always being done. People were buying and selling and building and rehabbing and doing all that before the internet. So I started thinking about it. I want to put everything I’m doing into a manual or a playbook is what I call it.
Chad McCall (08:30): We’re actually gonna do step by step and try to really understand real estate at its core, which when you start out real estate investigates all about finding a good deal, because I was always going ahead looking for money first sometimes, but then they were like, well, Chad, go get a good deal. I was like, okay. So how would you find the good deals? And then the money started coming. It was a lot easier for me to have conversations with the lenders. And the lenders really started liking me, Jay. And that’s why you’re expert in funding. That’s why I love you so much and get along so well with you and your strategy because you are the money guy for all the cool things that I find in real estate. When I find deals.
Jay Conner (09:06): Before you get into some specific strategies, I’m just really curious. And I know our audiences as well. How do you do a deal when you’re 14 years old? So let’s hear the 14 year old first real estate deal story.
Chad McCall (09:21): Oh, okay. So you guys might. Oh, well, okay. I’ll tell you. So 1991, I was in a car accident. Like you said, Jay I’m from Western, North Carolina, small town, way up there in the mountains. Nowhere between Lenoir and Morganton little town called Gamewell, but it’s pretty much known by Lenoir, North Carolina. And I was in a car accident and long story short, I was in the hospital for a few months. Really, really severe car accident. And I don’t come from a very wealthy family. I come from just a basic family in North Carolina and I got an insurance settlement from the car accident. And my mom and dad got divorced right around that same time. And I took the money from the insurance settlement and I bought my mama house. So a lot of times you hear the stories from people in the South, you know, when their sons are doing something or someone comes across money, it’s just one of those things.
Chad McCall (10:17): What do you do? You buy momma house? It’s kind of a common thing. I’ve got a lot of friends that are athletes and, you know, professional sports players and different things. And they always come to me. They always say I bought momma house. So you know what? I followed right along with it. And I bought momma house, Jay, when I was 14 years old with the money that I got from the insurance. So when I wasn’t old enough to sign on the contract, so my mom was the co-signer for that house. I remember Gamo Heights. A lot of my friends you’ll have people watching this. They’ll remember that same house that I purchased. And it was a HUD home that I ended up buying back then. And that was when I started talking about my first real estate deals where HUD properties.
Jay Conner (10:52): That’s awesome. Okay. Well, I didn’t want to slow down the momentum there, but I just know people want to know how you buying a house at 14 years old. So all right. Back to you.
Chad McCall (11:03): All right. Got it. So I got back to the strategies and saying, how can we break it down to the most basic form of how to get started on the deal? And the strategy started out like 10, 15, 20, then over time, Jay, these are the numbers of ways that we found properties caught up to 101, and this is the revised version of the playbook was at 90 for the longest time. And then we found a little bit more, but I call it Grassroots Real Estate Investing for some reason, it’s kind of a little nickname that I got to because if you can’t go out there and you can’t find a deal with out a computer, then it’s going to be just as hard sometimes to find it with the computer. You don’t know, it’s almost like talking to, you know, having conversations with people too, a lot of strategies are gonna involve human interactions.
Chad McCall (11:49): Some won’t, some are gonna involve computers. Some won’t, some will involve marketing. Some don’t some involve, you know, investments of money into marketing and your business. Some don’t that’s the beauty of it is there’s so many ways you can find deals and it doesn’t matter where you live. Doesn’t matter if you’re on the ocean like Jay, right by the water, right next door to it. Some of the most expensive real estate in the country is by water. Like where you’re at Jay, or you can be in the rural mountains, up in a cabin somewhere. It doesn’t matter where you are, you can do deals. And if you can find a great property, money’s easy and actually profiting in your real estate, investing business, hitting six and seven figures is very easy too if you find the right deals. So I spent my time really honing in on the strategies and the ones that I like.
Chad McCall (12:35): But what’s really interesting is you start to really see the markets shift. You start, when you’re looking and you’re talking to sellers. It’s very interesting when you’re on the ground looking at deals or you’re doing this business virtually. So there’s different strategies, depending on if you’re remote or if it’s in your backyard, but there’s always a strategy for any person, regardless of your money, regardless of your credit, regardless of your location. We have a lot of people, Jay, that are international investors that take the playbook and they’re investing here in the United States and they don’t, they’re never here. They do it all virtually they pick a few strategies and they just stick to it and they use those strategies over and over and over again to do their deals.
Jay Conner (13:16): That’s awesome. You know, there was a popular book, I don’t know, 25 years ago, maybe 30 years ago. You remember when the book Guerrilla Marketing came out?
Chad McCall (13:26): Yeah. Oh yeah. I think I’ve gotten it somewhere. Yeah. It’s over here. It’s all camouflage book. It’s around here in my desk somewhere.
Jay Conner (13:32): Yep. And and I remember that book, and as you were talking, I was thinking, you know, when you used the phrase, grassroots. So, you know, some of the best ways to find deals in my experience has, does not take a lot of money. Right.
Chad McCall (13:50): that’s right.
Jay Conner (13:50): May take some time of your own or time from a team member to do it. But I was just curious and we’re going to find out here, you know, what, you know, what percentage of your hundred and one different ways of finding deals would you say are actually a Grassroots or a Guerilla marketing kind of thing?
Chad McCall (14:10): Oh, a majority of the margin where they don’t really require a lot of money. And I want to take, let me tell you the difference, what I say, money free equals work. Okay. If you’re not going to put money out there into like a marketing budget, which a lot of investors are new, they don’t have marketing budgets, which is okay. But if you’re going to do it that route, it’s going to take a little bit of time and going to take a little bit of work, which if you’re , if you don’t want to work, then you know what, get together a little bit of a budget now, budget, meaning a majority of the strategies, you know, you’re talking $10, $20, $50, $75 or so a month, or over several months, I had a person spend $70 over 90 days in marketing, Jay. And she closed three transactions on $70 of spent.
Chad McCall (14:59): And here only one of them deals that she did, or the three came from the $70 that she spent. So, yeah.
Jay Conner (15:06): I love it.
Chad McCall (15:06): So it doesn’t really matter. One thing, Jay is in the playbook here. I break down the cost of each strategy. I give you how much it’s going to cost you. I tell you affordability and if you can pick the best strategies for you based on your budget. So I’ve taken 101 ways, and I’ve put those all down into 10 different categories. So you can focus on the category and then get inside the specifics of each category and find the right strategy for you.
Jay Conner (15:33): What’s an example of a category?
Chad McCall (15:36): For example, one of the categories here is I call it The Judicial Strategy. Then I have niche strategies as one. So I have retail strategies as one. I have B2B, which is another strategy, you know, a category. So these are categories. And then inside of those categories have detailed strategies and how to apply the strategy in your market. So it’s not just, Hey, go put out some signs. That’s not really a strategy. It’s if you’re going to do that, how do you do it? How cheaply can you do it? Like, there’s so many things. It isn’t just about putting out a sign. If you’re going to drive for dollars or doing those types of things, there’s a way that you do it to where you can get the best results you just don’t want to get in the car and drive around, or use an app on a phone out there.
Chad McCall (16:18): Like that’s really common nowadays, you see an app on a phone and people say, Oh, I’m driving for dollars. I’m going to send postcards. And this, well, just doing those things randomly, you don’t have really a purpose. So what I really like to let people know is in real estate investing, you have to have a purpose for the actions of what you’re doing. So if you’re going to go drive across, where are you driving? Why are you driving there? Who are you going to see? Why is that a good market? Is that an area that’s going to be good if you do get a deal from it? Cause a lot of times, Jay, I’ve been in markets where I can find an amazing deal, but there’s no buyers for it. And if there’s no buyers for it, why would a funder want to fund me on that deal? If they think it’s too risky.
Jay Conner (16:55): Exactly. As you’re talking, one word comes to my mind and then I want, then I want you to, I know our audience is biting at the bit that they hear the first strategy that you’re going to talk about. But one thing that comes to mind is a word that is critical when we are in real estate investing and we are locating deals to do. And that’s the word, consistency and measurability. And when I say consistent, it’s like, you know, if you’re like, okay, I get up today. Well, what am I going to do to go find a deal today? That’s not how it works. In my world, you got you get the education, right? You gotta, you gotta, you need to hang around somebody that has already learned how to do it and implement, you know, put the plan together. Okay, what strategies am I going to start testing? What’s my budget and consistency. You know, activities going on every day of bringing in, you know, some are leads. And along with that, we can’t set it and forget it. We got to continue to measure it. And we got to have a mechanism on measuring. What kind of return are we getting in our investment of dollars and investment of time, you agree?
Chad McCall (18:13): Oh, you have to measure what you’re doing. And that’s when I tell people, it was like a lot of people, Jay, that I run into say, Chad, I’m so glad I found this playbook. You know, I did direct mail though. And it didn’t work. How long did you do it? Well, I did it for two months. I was like, well, if you pay attention to the strategy, it’s going to last a lot longer than that. You know? They’re like, well, I sent out postcards, you know, not versus my yellow letters. And well, how long did you do it? And some people, they just, they jumped around from strategy to strategy. They ever get the consistency out their day, like you’re talking about. And I always tell people, if you do something consistently, just like you said, you can get a predictable result if you can measure.
Chad McCall (18:52): So you gotta be consistent. So you have the ability to measure. Then that’ll give you a predictable outcome, you know? And I learned from you Jay, you guys. I went in the field with Jay. Jay, probably that’s about that. I came out, went around Jay, show me what he’s doing. We talked like, this is what people do that are in this field. The experts I learned from Jay too, of how to be better on my side of finding deals, because I know that I’ve got to go to people like Jay and say, Hey, I need more money for deals. And if he knows what I know, and I know what he knows, it makes that so much easier to have that conversation with a funding person or to help me line up funding or referrals to other funders to do deals. So that’s the relationship that you want. You want to understand your market. You want to understand things and then give yourself time to be consistent enough. So you can measure. Then you can get a predictable result. Cause Jay will know that Chad gets this type of deal. Chad’s doing this type of size houses, this location, they get very, very comfortable with you. Then they start doing a lot more for you. Then they start giving you a little bit better rates sometimes. All of those things work out when you’re consistent with business for them. Right, Jay,
Jay Conner (20:01): You got it. All right. Let’s talk about a strategy. That’s one of your favorites.
Chad McCall (20:05): Oh man. I got so many, you know, I don’t know. Well, I’ll tell you one right now. That’s really hot. And some people are going to say no way, but Airbnb is a really hot strategy for motivated sellers.
Jay Conner (20:20): Okay. First of all, why is Airbnb so hot right now?
Chad McCall (20:27): Okay. I own Airbnbs in several States. I love the Airbnbs, but don’t get me wrong. But Airbnbs for motivated sellers because rules, regulations, you know, things are going on out there in the world. The reason why I say this is I filtered phone calls from at least 30 to 40 owners of Airbnbs, because they’re worried about what’s going to happen. Okay. And I’ll give you an example. What’s the most common conversation I’ve had with them is Chad, am I going to get sued? If someone catches Corona virus from one of my properties? Well, no one knows, right? But there’s a fear factor that could possibly happen. We haven’t seen a court case yet of that. Jay, we don’t know, and we can’t prove it. And we don’t know contact tracing and all the other things that can be involved with it. So homeowners, if they did get sued for that, what are the chances that they’re going to be able to weather a storm of a financial crisis like that the average person can’t. So that good investment now may turn into a longer term investment.
Chad McCall (21:25): They don’t want to deal with the management or the maintenance or anything that they’re going to have to do because cleaning costs. A lot of the cleaning company with Airbnbs are increasing their prices. Instead of that $75 to clean your unit or a hundred dollars after each visit, you’re going to have to spend 2 to $300, get a certified person. They got to use the right chemicals materials. And therefore that costs is going to increase on to your sellers, and to your rates and things. Right? So now if you have turnover in your property, we’re used to get two nights a month and then, or three night minimum stays. You’re gonna see a lot longer. Minimum stays with Airbnb week, two weeks because they don’t want to have to keep paying these costs of cleaning fees and everything else. Then you’re going to also see in certain areas like condos, town homes, the HOA’s are going to start changing rules due to what’s happening for traffic and people coming from out of the country.
Chad McCall (22:14): If you have a resort or a destination location, Airbnb. So I’ve noticed that you can get a lot of great deals on Airbnb’s right now, furnished and have great conversations with Airbnb owners that are just, you know what, yeah, I’m interested in doing that or taking over some of their properties subject too, because we’re not just out there finding deals to get funded. Jay, I know you love to fund all my deals for me, but I just, I find deals and I figured out ways to structure deals that aren’t necessarily the best for funding too. I may end up working on a short sale with someone taking over a subject too, working on a, you know, at least option something more creative as well when you have that motivated seller, because not all my deals are going to have the largest amounts of equity, but the ones that don’t, there’s still a way to work those deals.
Chad McCall (23:00): And there’s ones that do, always wait to wholesale and get them funded and rehab, et cetera. So Airbnb’s are great right now. And it’s very easy to find those and look at them because checking on the calendar, seeing which calendars have been booked out, which you know, locations are, I mean, there’s so many out there across the world and there are so many things going on with Airbnb and vacation rentals being up in the air right now. And again, it’s not every one of them, but you can have a very targeted, very qualified list. If you get the right message to those owners and you let them know that you’re interested in buying their property or putting a long-term rent in place as well, Jay, where you can rent it for two years at a thousand a month, and then you rent it out, you know, and you were on the Airbnb business on that charge 14, 15, 16, $1,800 a month, renting it out two or three times a month is all, where you can create your own little amazing cashflow business just from going out there and having the right conversations with Airbnb owners.
Chad McCall (23:53): But there’s a way to do that. There’s a right way to have that conversation. So that’s a great strategy right now with what we’re facing,
Jay Conner (24:00): Right? How do you initially communicate with the owners of Airbnb’s to you know, sift and sort those that might be interested in selling?
Chad McCall (24:12): Okay. So I do a lot of this myself. I designed my business where I can do everything in my business on my own before delegating it. But with Airbnb’s, I always have my VA go out there and start searching for my properties that are having no bookings. So on the calendar dates, when they’re not booked up and they always have availability or they have the lowest rates on their rental nights, that shows me they’re very motivated. So then I look for the lowest rates and the most calendar vacancies. That’s two things. So you can almost start to calculate, is this owner going to be making any money anytime soon or not? And then a third motivation indicator that I look for Jay is the ones that have really bad furniture. So if it’s really cheap, really bad furniture and old calendar invites, how are they going to pay to do all the cleaning up and things that they’re going to have to do?
Chad McCall (25:01): And it’s more of a burden for them sometimes again, not every one of them, but what we’re looking for, you can easily find a 20 to 30% conversion rate talking to those. And that’s a great conversion rate when you find the right type of motivated sellers, motivated landlords that have had those properties. And then I go a step further, Jay, I check and see how long those individuals have on those properties. So I look at the deed dates and if I can have a deed date, that’s so long, 10 years or more , then I know there’s some equity in there in that situation to have a good conversation, to write them a check for that housing from Jay Conner. When I say, Jay, I got a great deal, give me 50 grand, that’s worth a hundred. And you say, sure, Chad, I know, you know what you’re doing. And then we’d go out there and I sell it. I pay your money and I’ll walk with a profit. There you go.
Jay Conner (25:48): These properties that you’re buying that are currently being marketed as Airbnb. When you acquire the property, what is typically your plan of this you know, disposition? You know, what are you going to do with it?
Chad McCall (26:01): Oh, resell. Totally. Unless they don’t want to sell it to me yet. I can get a longer term lease. Do I like a lease option? If I’m a limited financially, then I can work more of a creative deal with them, Jay, but I’d love to just take those properties. They already have traffic. It’s usually in a nicer area. That’s why they’ve held the properties for such a long time. So it’s very easy to resell. Plus the homeowners. Usually aren’t going to want to do any of the work that it takes to get those properties up to market standards because they haven’t made any money with their Airbnb. So they need to come out of pocket with 20 grand. They’ve not made the 20 grand that they were thinking they were going to make with the Airbnb. And so there you go. You have an upside.
Chad McCall (26:42): Now, one, the things that most people don’t realize is Airbnb. A lot of these properties after this year, there’s so many properties it’s estimated to over 40% of Airbnb owners are defaulting on their mortgages right now on those properties. So with the high increase of that, that’s a lot of homeowners, insurance policies are going to be going in saying, what’s going on here. All it takes is for the homeowner insurance policies to know that they weren’t getting the right type of policy for a vacation rental or short term rental policy. And you’re gonna have a lot of owners that are gonna be freaking out about that too. So you’re going to catch some motivation from some of these sellers at the right point, and you can make a full time business on Airbnb from motivated sellers. If you want.
Jay Conner (27:27): Now in your playbook, you got 101 different ways to find discounted real estate in today’s market. If someone is like really, really tight on a budget, don’t have much money to invest. What’s one of your top one or two strategies in your playbook for people that are short on budget?
Chad McCall (27:45): Well, the easiest thing, Jay is the most public information that you can have out there is going to be a delinquent tax properties and code violations. I love both of those strategies because it’s free and you can always find some type of motivation. Now let’s just take code violations, for example, this strategy it’s public. I was just looking today, yesterday, and one location Jay, one city. And I’ll just give you an example. So Pennsylvania, so we’re talking Pittsburgh. In Pittsburgh do you have any idea of how many code violations have been filed in the last five years in Pittsburgh? Jay like, would you have a guess? Let’s just talk about like code violations. Like what would you do.
Jay Conner (28:28): I don’t have a guess, but before you answer, before you let everybody know, give everybody some examples of what a code violation is.
Chad McCall (28:35): Okay. Code violations or anything that you’re going to be in trouble for, from the exterior of your property, primarily, unless there’s a complaint on interior. Now, the interior complaints come from vacant properties, obviously a complaint from the city, meaning you’re not uphold into the building and standards, arrangement, or agreement that you have with the city. And that’s a big deal. Okay. They have the, it’s like the police that drives around and looks for reasons to, like, for me in North Carolina, Jay, you know, we’re out in front of the Western, North Carolina. It’s not very uncommon to have a couch sitting on your front porch or a car that’s been broken down in the front yard for 20 years. And hasn’t been moved. Okay, very common where I’m from, but that’s a code violation. You’re going to have to move it. They’re going to find you, they’re going to charge you for it.
Chad McCall (29:23): Busted out windows garbage, debris, grass is a very common one. A lot of those things, you know buildings without permits. This is a really good one too Jay that so when you’re looking at code violations, so I’ll give an example. One of this is the last five years there was 15,000 code violations filed the last five years now in the last year, there was 4,500 of those in the last year of the 4,500, this one city, okay. 900 were major code violations. And this, when I say major, this is over 7, 8, $9,000 to me based on this area. So now those aren’t legal complaints. They’re filed. People have to fix it. In other words, it’s a fix it ticket. It’s like, Hey, if you don’t fix this, you know, we’re going to not give you an occupancy permit to be able to live or rent in this property.
Chad McCall (30:21): So now that’s a major deal for a lot of people. Now, I will say that what we’ve seen is an unprecedented times right now in the pandemic, there’s a lot of major cities that have had some vandalism has had problems, things going out there, and guess what? That’s not going to stop the landlords and the code violations and everone’s not having to fix some of these problems, but they’re going to make sure they’re a very aware in certain areas of vacant properties. Now you’re gonna have a lot of people out looking for damage. They’re going to be looking at vacant properties, they’re going to be finding just because of the circumstances they’re going to be catching on to other landlords that had vacant properties sitting there. Other landlords that have think there got away with problems before they’ve been letting it sit there.
Chad McCall (31:03): And just the problem didn’t fix itself. It’s going to be doubling up. So you’re gonna have a lot of court cases coming up here. The first of the year that are going to be happening in the code violation world that are going to be thousands and thousands of dollars. And this is a legal proceeding that’s filed. And so one of the categories like the Judicial Category, it’s going to be a legal proceeding that’s filed. Legal proceedings, they’re going to be assigned the case number., they’re going to be assigned a court date, all public information. So if you don’t have a big marketing budget or brie, you just go to the date that they have, the court cases there, you can look up, who’s going to be having you look up what violations that they have. If you really want, if you can point and click on Google, you can easily find them.
Chad McCall (31:41): And then there’s your conversation. You know, the problem that they have with the house, you can easily find out if it’s an owner occupied property or a non-owner occupied property. Jay, very simple. It just takes a little bit of rolling up your sleeves. Get back to Grassroots Real Estate code violations has been around forever. I didn’t invent them. Jay didn’t invent them. They’ve been around hundreds of years. So easy to find those it’s legal. It’s all public information. You can roll your sleeves up. You’ll have more leads and you’ll know what to do with them. Just like that. One city over 900. All you need is one seller to say yes. Right Jay? Just one.
Jay Conner (32:18): You got it. Now you mentioned another strategy along with code violations. And what was it that you said
Chad McCall (32:25): You know, I have kind of run out a good strategy today. I think I gave too much.
Jay Conner (32:32): That’s awesome.
Chad McCall (32:33): Other one, Okay. So let’s talk about your delinquent taxes. Okay. A lot of.
Jay Conner (32:38): That’s what we said, delinquent taxes.
Chad McCall (32:41): Yes. A lot of times now this isn’t going to be the same in every single City and County and State it’s different. Okay. But if you’re limited on budget, Jay, this is what I was thinking of. You know, that’s a situation where properties that are delinquent on tax. I’m not talking about chasing at the tax sale or anything like that. Right now. I’m going to give you an easier way to talk about it. Is you have, what’s called land banks, repository lists. You have struck off lists in North Carolina. Jay, I mean, you know, you have the upset bids in North Carolina, right? I mean, that’s a really big one where upset bid. So let’s just talk about North Carolina, my home state. I love North Carolina go Blue Devils and Tarheels both. Okay. you’ve got struck off. So you actually get to see the properties that go to auction.
Chad McCall (33:27): You get to see what the highest bid is. Look at those properties. If you liked the property better, you’ve been a little bit more. As soon as you bid a little bit more, you’ve got several days where you’re the highest bidder, it’s like eBay for real estate. And it’s very easy because a lot of properties on the upset bid list, where if you like one of those, pick it up. It’s very easy. You say, Hey, Jay, I’ve got a property. I’m the bidder on this. I’m going to close in the next week. It’s worth 120,000. I’m going to pick it up for 60 to 70. Will you lend me money on it? You’re going to be like, that sounds like good. I think if the ARV numbers will workout, I think we’re good on that. That’s an easy way to do it.
Chad McCall (34:06): And it all started with unpaid taxes. Now I’m talking about, you can chase them there, or you can get them later in the process after they’ve already been a couple steps further in the process for delinquent taxes and over to this struck off list. So you can easily do things like that and find properties that are available. If you’re in a state with a land bank, they’ve got properties that are sitting there right now for you to pick up and purchase and you can rehab. Maybe you can cashflow some of them. If you’re in a repository state like Pennsylvania, you don’t, that’s another area there’s properties readily available for you if you want. So there’s areas you can find properties right now that most investors don’t look, they don’t think of looking that you can make a decision on right now, if you have access to someone like Jay Conner for all your money needs, he’s right there, right? You’re you’re the man they’d asking when they find a good deal, Jay. But those are easy ways that are really free and really cheap. And they don’t require any budget for someone Jay that’s free.
Jay Conner (35:04): That’s awesome. So we mentioned the beginning of the show, your playbook. Let’s go ahead and tell everybody how they can get a copy of your 101 ways to find these deeply discounted houses.
Chad McCall (35:18): So if you want to get a copy, go to www.REStrategyLab.com/Podcast. Okay. So www.REStrategyLab.com/Podcast for a special offer for Jay. Now, if you don’t go there, you’re not gonna be able get that offer. Okay. You’re, it’s what it really is, is www.REStrategyLab.com/Podcast. You’re going to be able to get this for a dollar, a strategy, pretty much Jay. And I don’t think there’s anything else like it out there. I know there’s nothing else like it, but I don’t think there’s anything that’s going to carry the value of a dollar, a strategy for your real estate investing business. So again, here’s what it looks like. It’s 175 pages of what to do, how you get involved, what you’re doing, doing it. And I’ve even got some of my best marketing things in the back here as well, Jay, like some of the scripts and things that I’ve used, some of the, I mean, certain letters and mail and you know, you name it, they’re all in here.
Chad McCall (36:15): Like what I’ve done response rates, how I do it. There’s ways I even talk about how to get free postcards, you know if you’re ever going to do marketing and things. So there are ways you can do it. So affordable and cheap and zero, if you really want, you don’t have to have these huge marketing budgets with a playbook like this. You can compete with anyone out there in the real estate investing business, no matter how big or small your company is, you can do it. And if you’re a seasoned investor, this is the best thing for you. It’s like your Bible for real estate. If you want to scale or grow. And if you’re new at real estate, you can pretty much need this. So you don’t make a big mistake and go out there and do something wrong and not get a return on your investor.
Jay Conner (36:53): Well, there you have it. Folks get on over to www.REStrategyLab.com/Podcast. Chad, thank you so much for taking the time to come on the show today, to share your experience with our audience and a parting comments.

Chapter 7 | Chapter 8 | Chapter 9
December. The time for my review with the boss and the decision of whether or not I’ll be staying with the company was so close, it made me nervous. And a lot of the finer details for the boys have been getting finalized, including their songs being in production. The boys were starting to get close to being ready for debut, so I was a bundle of both excitement and nerves.
After my last class, I waited for Jin so we could head to the company together. As I sat on one of the benches outside of school, I felt my phone vibrate to notify me of a text message. It was from Seokjin, he said he finished class early and had something to do so he went on ahead. I responded with a quick “Okay, I’ll see you there soon then” before heading on my own way.
I felt glad for it to be Friday so I could spend the next few days focusing on the boys. I had an idea for them that I couldn’t wait to share with Sejin oppa. I made my way down the hallway at the company, heading to the dance studio. I usually stopped by to see if anyone were practicing and would stay and watch for a little bit if I could. Even if no one was in the room, the light usually stayed on. But for some reason, it was pitch black.
I slowly opened the door to walk in and started touching the nearby wall to find the light switch. I halted my actions when I saw a flicker of a light in the far corner of the room and started to hear some voices sing. It took me a second to register what was going on, but when I did it had me really surprised. I finally got the lights on for the last line of the happy birthday song and saw the eight people, all seven members of BTS and Sejin oppa, in the room. They were holding a cake and harmonized the last note both comically, but somehow beautifully at the same time.
I had completely forgotten today’s date. It was December 7, my 20th birthday. Their surprise had me floored. I wasn’t expecting anything like this. “Oh my gosh, guys. What is all this?”
“It’s a surprise, noona!” Hoseok said excitedly.
“You didn’t think we’d forget your birthday, did you?” Namjoon said with a smile.
“Yah, blow out the candle quick,” Yoongi, who was the one holding the cake, whined. “Before it burns my hands off.”
I chuckled, and quickly tried to think of a wish. Only one thing came to my mind, and I blew it out before he could complain any further. “Actually, I forgot about it myself.”
“How did you forget?” Seokjin asked. “You just told me happy birthday three days ago, and you somehow forgot yours so quickly?”
“I’ve just been so wrapped up in work the past couple days that it escaped my mind,” I said. “This is really sweet guys, thank you so much.” I made sure to hug each of them individually, including Sejin oppa.
“We wanted to get you a gift, but we don’t have any money,” Jungkook said, frowning.
I smiled as I comfortingly pat his head, “It’s alright Kookie. I have everything I need right here.”
“That was pretty cheesy,” Hoseok said, cringing a little.
I poked him in his side. “But it’s true!”
“Did you make a wish, noona?” Taehyung asked as he wrapped his arms around my neck from behind.
“I did. But if I tell it won’t come true,” I teased. The only thing I could think of as a wish was for BTS’ successful debut. And superstition or not, I wasn’t about to ruin a wish that important. “Don’t you guys have schedules today?”
“They’re all free today,” Sejin oppa responded.
“What about you oppa?” I asked.
“Oh, I have a few things to take care of, but not much.” Sejin replied. “But as for you, you’re taking the day off.”
“What? Why?”
“Because we want to play with you!” Tae jumped up and down, his arms still around me.
I laughed. “You guys just said you don’t have money, so what are we supposed to do?”
“Do you like games?” Jimin asked, a playful glint in his eyes.
“Well, yeah.” I raised my eyebrows. “What kind of games are we talking about?”
I was turned around and being pushed toward the door. “Let’s go!” Seokjin exclaimed as he wrapped his arm around my shoulders.
I turned back to say goodbye to Sejin who just laughed and waved us away.
They took me back to their dorm, where they had a bunch of snacks prepared in the kitchen and decks of cards and board games in the living room.
Taehyung tugged me by the arm towards the living room excitedly. “What do you want to play first, noona?” He asked with the biggest smile on his face.
The silent air in the room was full of tension. We sat in a circle on the floor, our eyes all on Jungkook, waiting to see what move he was going to make. All of our fates rested on his shoulders, and it was obvious how nervous he was.
Finally, he made his move, which elicited a cry from Yoongi next to him. “Seriously?!” He drew another card from the Uno deck pile, upset that his win was thwarted.
Then from next to him, Seokjin cheered as he threw his last card on top of the green one Jungkook placed just a few seconds ago. He stood up, pumping a fist into the air. “Yes! I won!”
“Wait what?!” I exclaimed. “Since when were you on uno?”
The rest of the boys released grunts of frustration, some sprawling out on the floor.
He just winked at me. “I’m the master of this game, (Y/n). Never underestimate my skills.”
“I still can’t figure out how this game works!” Taehyung said, messing his hair with his free hand while at least 20 cards were in his other.
I had completely lost track of how long we had been playing games. All I knew was that I hadn’t won a single one yet. I had no idea just how competitive all seven of these boys were until tonight. But even if I didn’t win, I was having the most fun I’d had in a long time.
“What should we do next?” Jungkook asked, stuffing a handful of chips into his mouth.
“Can’t we just go to sleep now?” Yoongi responded.
“You’ve said that every time we’re done with a game,” Seokjin said.
The group started chatting and laughing amongst themselves. I smiled and released a content sigh as I leaned my head on the shoulder to the left of me. It was Namjoon’s.
“Everything alright, noona?” he asked quietly.
I nodded. “I just feel so happy right now.” I wrapped my arms around his waist.
He flashed his cute dimple smile and placed his hand on my head, lightly stroking my hair. “Sometimes I question why I deal with them, but then there’s times like this when I just can’t help but feel they’re so lovable.”
I chuckled. “That sounds like our leader.”
“Noona!” Hoseok suddenly yelled.
I straightened up at the sudden sound. “What?”
“Jimin is saying I’m not as cute as him,” Hoseok said, frowning. “But I can be cute, too! See?” He proceeded to make a few aegyo poses, making high-pitched cooing noises to try to add to the effect.
“Oh come on, that’s not as cute as me,” Jimin retaliated, slightly pushing his hyung to make him lose his balance where he was sitting. “Aren’t I cuter, noona?” He followed Hoseok in making a bunch of poses to prove his point.
I turned to my left and made eye contact with Namjoon, then looked back at the two boys who were looking pretty ridiculous at this point in their aegyo battle before I broke out into laughter, falling onto my back.
“Yeah, that ‘lovable’ moment didn’t last too long.” Namjoon stood up to walk away, shaking his head.
At some point, everyone decided they wanted to watch a movie. But none of us seemed to be paying all too much attention to it as there was still a lot of conversing going on, and a some of the members were starting to have trouble staying awake. I sat in between Taehyung and Seokjin. When I felt Taehyung’s head rest itself on my shoulder, I looked over to see his eyes shut and his breathing seeming to slow. I started to stroke his hair and placed a light kiss on the top of his head.
He straightened up at the gesture and looked at me, a bit of a shocked look in his eyes. “Noona, what was that for?”
“Sorry,” I responded, rubbing the back of my neck with my hand. “It just felt comfortable in the moment. Was it weird? I won’t do it again.”
Tae smiled and shook his head. “No, it’s not weird. I was just shocked is all.” He placed his head back on my shoulder, nuzzling in a little closer this time.
I chuckled and placed my hand back where it was, lightly stroking the boy’s hair as I felt him fall asleep.
Eventually the ending credits for the movie rolled, and the energy that once filled the room became calm. A few of the members were either already asleep or starting to doze off, and those still awake were obviously worn out.
“(Y/n),” Jin spoke up from beside me, “when is your meeting with PD-nim?”
“I’m not sure. I haven’t heard anything yet,” I responded.
“You’ll be able to stay right?” Jungkook chimed in. I thought he was already asleep, but apparently not.
“We’ll have to see, Kook-ah.” I offered him a smile. “To be honest, I have no idea how it’ll go.”
“You don’t think it’s been going well?” Yoongi asked. I was kind of shocked he wasn’t asleep, seeing as he’d been laying down with the hood from his hoodie pulled over his eyes for quite a while now.
“I mean, I feel like it has. But I also haven’t had the chance to do that many actual managerial things yet. It’s mostly been learning and training with Sejin oppa. The most I got to do was communicate with others in the company about getting things ready for your debut. How can I prove that I’ll be good at the job when I haven’t really had a chance to do it yet?”
“I know you’ll do well, noona,” Tae said somewhat groggily, his head still on my shoulder as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
I rested my head on top of his. “To be honest, I still can’t figure out why he hired me in the first place. I’m young, don’t even have any experience, a foreigner, and am college student. Like, what could he possibly have seen in me that he wanted to put your guys’ future in my hands?”
“I don’t think those things really matter,” Yoongi said. He turned on his side and pulled his hood up enough so his eyes could meet mine. “If you haven’t noticed, PD-nim doesn’t think conventionally. Yeah, others would think you are under-qualified and want some type of proof you’d do well. But there must have been something about you not on paper that impressed him.”
I felt Taehyung nod his head against my shoulder. “If I was a CEO, I’d hire you in a heartbeat, no matter what job it was.”
I laughed. “Thanks, Taetae.” I looked around at all the sleepy boys, then checked my phone to see what time it was. “It’s late, guys. You should all get to sleep. You still have stuff to do tomorrow.”
“But noona,” a very sleepy sounding Jimin whined from where he laid on Namjoon’s lap, “We’re having so much fun, I don’t want to go to sleep yet.”
“Says the one who fell asleep on my lap,” Namjoon chuckled.
Jimin sat up quickly. “I’m refreshed and ready for round two.” He tried so hard to sound energetic, but it just came out sounding sleepy.
Namjoon grabbed his shoulders to start guiding him to the bedroom. “Let’s go to sleep, Jimin-ah.”
“Oh, we’re going to sleep now?” A heavy-lidded Hoseok sat up on the floor. “I have some clothes you can change into, noona. I’ll go get them for you.”
“Thank you Hobi,” I said, yawning. I turned my attention to Tae who was still attached to my side. “Taehyung-ah, you should go to sleep.”
“I’m staying here,” he replied.
“No, you should sleep in your bed.”
He whined, still refusing to budge. I couldn’t help but think how adorable the sight was. But Seokjin luckily came to my rescue and pried Tae away from my arm to take him to their room.
“Good night, (Y/n),” Jin smiled as they left the living room. I waved in response.
Jungkook and Yoongi lazily followed suit, as Hoseok brought me a set of comfy clothes.
“Thank you, Hoseok.” I took them and started walking toward the bathroom. “Maybe I should consider bringing my own set of pajamas here in case I’m dragged here unexpectedly again.”
Hoseok came over to wrap me in a hug before saying, “Good night, noona. And thank you.”
I returned his embrace. “Thank you for what?”
“For hanging out with us tonight,” he elaborated. “We haven’t had a chance to have fun like this in quite a while, and to be honest the members all really needed this. This was a gift for all of us. And we had so much more fun because you were here too, so thank you for joining us. We all really appreciate it.”
I smiled as we released each other from the hug and placed my hands on either side of his face. “Anything for my boys.”
I woke up to my alarm at 6:30 the next morning, and quickly got up to take a shower and get ready before carefully making my way into the bedroom where all seven members were still sleeping to wake them up. We needed to be at the company by 8 today, so there was no time to waste.
I started trying to wake them up, but they were all being stubborn this morning, not wanting to budge. I nudged their shoulders, talked to them, and even tried pulling some of their blankets off. But there was no reaction.
I retreated to the living room to get my phone, found the most annoying alarm sound I could and made an alarm for one minute away, setting my phone volume at maximum. I stood at the doorway to their room, holding the phone as far away from my ears as possible while waiting for the alarm to go off.
As soon as it did, a few of the boys instantly sat up in bed, shocked at the sudden noise. Others just squirmed around uncomfortably, hoping it would stop.
“Come on guys!” I said loudly so they’d hear me over the alarm. “Time to get up, you sleepyheads!”
I started hearing whining noises from a few of the beds.
“Noona, turn it off,” Namjoon said, dragging out the last syllable.
I decided to comply, satisfied that I at least got them all to no longer be asleep.
“Guys, we have to leave in half an hour,” I said. “You better be ready in 20 minutes.”
Namjoon, Hoseok, and Seokjin climbed out of their beds while the others remained laying down, continuing to grumble.
I left waking up the rest to the three that got out of bed while I went to the living room and focused on my phone to give them privacy to get ready.
Surprisingly, they were all ready within the twenty minutes I requested, although some of them were still trying to fully wake up.
“Noona, that was pretty harsh, waking us up like that,” Jungkook said.
I raised my eyebrows. “Well, none of you seemed to set any alarms, and when I tried to wake you up nicely you didn’t budge. So, I did what I needed to.”
“I mean she is our manager, so she can’t just be our friend all the time,” Seokjin noted.
I nodded in agreement. “Alright, time to go guys.”
We all walked to the company together, with only a little chatting since some of them – especially the ’95 line – were still not fully awake. My first stop when we got there was Sejin oppa’s office. I needed to talk to him today about an idea I had.
We needed to try to get BTS’ name out there before they debut. It wasn’t easy since we were a small company and don’t have the money to spend on a lot of advertising. But I had thought of something just the other day, which I had intended to bring up yesterday before I knew I would be spending the day with the boys.
I knocked on the door before opening it, and was happy to see he was already here. “Good morning, oppa,” I greeted with a smile and slight head bow.
“Good morning,” Sejin responded. “Did you guys have a good time yesterday?”
“Yes, we did. We had a lot of fun. But don’t worry, I got them all here on time today.”
“That’s great to hear,” he responded with a smile. “I’m sure it was a good break, not only for you but for the boys too.”
I nodded and slowly approached the chair across from him to sit in. I wasn’t quite sure why, but I suddenly felt pretty nervous about offering my idea. I guess I was worried it wouldn’t be good.
Sejin oppa must have noticed my hesitancy because he asked, “What is it, (Y/n)? Do you have something you need to say?”
I took in a deep breath before speaking. “I just had an idea for something the boys could do for promoting themselves before debut.”
“Oh, really? That’s great. I actually have a meeting with a team who’s working on that on Monday, and I was intending on bringing you with me. Why don’t you tell all of us about it then?”
If I felt nervous telling just Sejin oppa,d then I had a full swarm of butterflies in my stomach at the idea of needing to tell others. “I can’t just tell you now?”
Sejin chuckled. “I get that you’re nervous. Don’t think I haven’t noticed during the past few months that you have a tendency to get shy and nervous about talking to people who you aren’t as comfortable with.” He paused, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Take this as an opportunity to step out of your shell a bit. You’ll need it if you intend to stay with us.”
I slowly nodded my head.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be fine. Now, how about you head to your acting and vocal lessons?”

how about some headcanons of senku, yuzuriha, and taiju overhearing their s/o gushing about them to their friends!
*raises arms up in the air* YES PLEASE!!!! MY BABIES… also i made a thing.. (also i hope you like this bc i wrote a lot lmao) (also!! i know you asked for friends, but taiju’s kinda became… err you’ll see haha)
Senku, Yuzuriha, And Taiju With Gushing S/O HCS
I mean like, I feel like Senku didn’t have too many friends in school. I mean, we all know Senku can be a bit… rude and many of his classmates did not really like how he was a smartass. So he pretty much lived his life, his only real friends being Taiju and Yuzuriha, maybe some of the nerds from his science club as well.
When he met s/o, he was kind of surprised at how much they wanted to be with him, and how they thought he was super cool. Of course, he didn’t voice these thoughts.
So when the school sees s/o and Senku walking together all buddy-buddy, everyone’s like?? How?? Why?? Eventually, they spilt to go to class.
Senku sat down in his seat, a bit early. He dug through his bag to find his notebook when he saw the pieces of paper sticking out of it. Curiously, he took them out to see it was his s/o’s homework he helped them with.
He sighed. They had forgotten their homework, again. He quickly exited the classroom to go to s/o’s class. It was quite close, thankfully. The door was already open. He was about to enter when-
“Why do you even hang out with him, s/o?”
“With who?”
“That Ishigami boy.”
“Because he’s my boyfriend, (friend-name)!”
Silence.
“EEEEHHHHH???!!”
All of s/o’s friends jumped from their seat and crowded around their desk. “Are you serious??!”
“Well, yea! Why would I lie about-”
“Oh my God, s/o no one even likes that guy.”
“S/o, you can do so much better than him.”
“Yea, he acts like he knows so much about science but-”
“Guys! You have the wrong idea about Senku! He’s actually really kind and caring.”
Senku frowned as he peered through the door. He loved s/o, but he didn’t want to bring their reputation down by being with them… he continued to listen.
“Oh really? How is a brat like him kind and caring?”
“Senku is always there for me, even though he shows it in a roundabout way. Even though he’s not that strong if he sees me struggling to carry my books he offers to help me.”
“But-”
“Whenever I need help with my homework, Senku always gives up his free time to tutor me. He won’t leave me alone until I understand the topic. Even though he’s not too romantic, we always go watch the stars as dates. He may come off as rude sometimes, but he doesn’t mean it. That’s just his personality. When you get close to him, he really does care about you. Whenever I’m scared about an upcoming exam or something, he always reassures me that I’m going to be fine. We always conduct these crazy experiments together and-”
S/o just kept going on and on about Senku. At least 5 minutes had passed, and s/o’s friends and Senku stood there stunned.
“Oh and, there was this one time when he let me play with his hair! It was so soft and fluffy!” s/o gushed as they giggled.
Senku could feel the tips of his ears burn as he covered his mouth with his hand, trying to stop smiling like an idiot. The bell rung as the teacher saw him not in his class and ordered him to go before he gets detention. He didn’t even hear as he slowly walked back, still trying to get his emotions under control.
That was the first time he was ever late to science class.
“Senku, Senku!! Do you know where I put my homework??!”
It was after school, and s/o was in the clubroom frantically searching through their bag.
“Yea, you left it in my bag.”
“I did? Thank God! You’re the best Senku!” they ran up to him, placing a quick kiss to his cheek.
He tried to keep his blush under control and he nodded.
“Hey, s/o?”
“Yea??”
“Thanks for all of the things you’ve done for me.”
S/o stopped what they were doing as they looked at him with a blush. “Well, of course, it’s no problem. But where is this coming from?”
Senku cracked his neck, searching for the right words.
“S/o… what I’m trying to say is that… I love you.”
Hehe… as I’ve said for the 10 billionth time, Yuzuriha is soft babey….
I feel like Yuzuriha would be that one person everyone knows and loves because she’s so nice and kind and good and- you get the point.
You know how she’s the club leader for the Arts and Crafts club?? All of the members love her!! So I mean, they are totally willing to listen to s/o gush about Yuzuriha.
Yuzuriha had excused herself in order to get more supplies from the storeroom.
“Oh my gosh, Yuzuriha is the cutest thing ever.”
“I know s/o, you say that every single day. Is there a day where you don’t say that?”
“I know but… she’s just so amazing and creative!!”
“Yes, I get it s/o-”
“No!! You need to hear about how great she is!!”
Yuzuriha had made her way back to the room when she heard loud voices coming from it. Had something happened while she was gone? She peered through the crack of the door and say her s/o standing on the table, holding a broom to their mouth like a microphone, as the other club members watched in amazement.
“You see everyone, Yuzuriha is literally a sunflower. When she smiles it is as bright as the sun. AND,” s/o said emphasizing the ‘and,’ “she is prettier than any flower in the world.”
“Well that’s nice but-”
S/o furiously lifted their finger to their lips and emitted a loud “SHHHHH!!!!”
“Anyway, do you guys see how creative she is?? In a second she can create the most fashionable clothes!! And look around you!!,” s/o gestured to the artistic designs on the walls and floors, “who do you think painted and came up with this? It was the love of my life, Yuzuriha Ogawa!!! And!!! Do you know how kind and sweet she is? She always helps people when they need help and is always willing you help you perfect your craft skills! And-”
S/o stopped as they saw Yuzuriha standing at the door with a blush on her face.
“YUZURIHHAAAA!!!”
S/o jumped off the table and ran to her, squeezing her body in a tight hug. “I missed you soooo much!”
“She’s only been gone for 5 minutes…” one of the club members sighed.
“S-s/o…” Yuzuriha gently smiled as she patted their hair. Her heart squeezed and pounded against her chest because of s/o’s cuteness.
“I love you, s/o…” Yuzuriha murmured softly. The club members looked up, astonished. S/o looked up with a huge grin on their face.
“I LOVE YOU TOOOOO!!!!!”
Sorry for the crying Taiju gif-
Anyway!! Taiju was like, mindblown (I’ve been using that word too much) when s/o accepted his confession. He’d been harboring feelings for them for so long… and he was really surprised when s/o said the magic words back to him.
“Actually… Taiju… I like you too!”
Ok… before I go on I have to say Taiju has to be like, the best boyfriend ever!! Always supporting his s/o in whatever they do and just… uwu.
Taiju was practically running to his s/o’s last period class. School had just ended and he was eager to see his s/o again. He skidded to a halt and stopped in front of the open classroom door.
“Why are you even dating that meathead?”
“Because I love him.”
Taiju frowned as he watched the scene unfold in front of him.
“He’s not even good at anything-”
“I am going to stop you right there. Taiju is an amazing person.”
“Oh really? How in the world is someone like him-”
“Taiju is good at plenty of things, ok? He’s always right by my side. Whenever I’m feeling down or sad, he knows what to do to make me feel like myself again. He may seem dense at times, but he can easily read my feelings and knows exactly how to care for me. Taiju always picks me up and spins me around…” s/o began to get off-topic as they gushed about him.
“Taiju always has a good attitude about everything. He’s always so positive and that makes me happy too. He’s goodnatured and has a beautiful heart-” s/o stopped as they noticed Taiju standing at the doorway.
“Taiju! You’re here!”
“Yea…” Taiju oddly walked over to s/o, quickly taking their hand in his and shooting a look at the bullies. S/o stuck their tongue out at them as she pulled Taiju out of the classroom.
“It’s been a nice little chat, but as you can see, I have to go.”
They quickly exited the school as s/o sighed. “You saw that didn’t you-” s/o did not get to finish their sentence as Taiju screamed.
“S/O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” he yelled at the top of his lungs as he effortlessly picked s/o up and spun them around in the air.
“OHHHHHHH!!!!! S/O!!!!” he put them down and kept screaming.
“T-Taiju! You can stop screaming my name now!”
“S/O….. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!” he screamed out again, engulfing them in a bone-crushing hug.
“Taiju…” s/o said softly, caressing his hair as they smiled. They pulled him down to their level and pecked him on the lips.
“I love you too!”

The Star Wars Saga Is A Meditation On Single Motherhood
It recently dawned on me that the entire story line of the Star Wars saga is built on the lives, loves and tribulations of 3 generations of single mothers. There are monsters to slay and aliens to find and planets to explore, yes, but if you think about the powerful message in the movies, you’ll come to realize it was mostly a reflection on the status of single mothers, the outcomes of their offspring, and the conflict that lives forever in their descendants.
Each trilogy, once reframed, becomes the story of one woman, who finds herself in a situation that is as old as time. She is with child, but the person who planted the seed in her is not by her side.
Shmi Skywalker or The Good Single Mother
In the Phantom Menace, Jedi Knight Qui Gon Jin meets Anakin Skywalker, a slave boy with a talent for repairing machines. The Jedi knight is impressed with the child’s abilities. He’s knowledgeable, intuitive, and most importantly he’s also kind and thoughtful. When a sand storm threatens the group of travelers, Anakin takes them to his own home and offers them shelter.
We meet Shmi Skywalker, who in many ways is the archetype of the good single mother. She is not just quiet. She has completely erased herself. She has no personality, apart from being Anakin’s caretaker. She expresses no needs, no desires, no dreams. She simply loves Anakin, and when she sees an opportunity for him to leave the desert planet ruled by the Huts, she doesn’t stand in his way.
In a now famous scene, Qui Gon asks her about the child’s origins and Shmi famously responds “There was no father”. The line continues: “I carried him. I gave birth. I raised him. I can’t explain what happened”.
The immaculate conception myth refers to the idea in Christianity that Mary, much like Shmi, was impregnated by some magical force, a holy spirit. Both are parabols: images we use to discuss painful topics. Single motherhood has probably always been a part of the human experience. Jared Diamond explains in “Why Is Sex Fun?” that in terms of evolution, it is more rewarding for human males to be “super spreaders “ rather than “good fathers “ . The “good father” gene does not pass down to future generations, because in effect, not sticking around to raise the child is a better strategy for a human man to pass on his genes to the next generation. Not convinced? Just count how many women have been impregnated by a rapper like Future (8 last time I checked). If you’re not into hip-hop, you can think of the offspring of the Mongol Genghis Khan
The purpose of the parabol is to provide an image, to extract ourselves from the technicalities of onr person’s story and to instead talk about all single mothers at once. Indeed, single mothers come in all shapes and sizes. Some are widowed, some are abandoned, others are lied to, and some run away from abusive environments.
Shmi raises her son the best she can, and her love for him is unconditional. She doesn’t bat an eye when he is freed while she is to continue her life as a slave. She doesn’t even seem to mind when Anakin leaves the planet and never returns to free her, even after he marries into some serious money.
But the story of Star Wars tells us that Shmi’s relationship to Anakin, because it was so fusional, because it was all that he had, led to his undoing. In Episode 2, when he senses she is in danger, he jeopardizes his mission to protect Padme to go rescue her. When he eventually finds her, he is so upset about her ultimate death that he commits mass murder, targeting the Tuskan riders of the sea of Dunes.
When Yoda first lays eyes on Anakin, he senses Anakin’s pain, he is just a child whose been ripped away from the only human that’s ever cared for him deeply. The turmoil inside the boy is palpable, and Yoda advises against training him.
Padme Amidala or The Bad Single Mother
Anakin develops feelings for Padme, and in Episode 2 the pair decide to secretly get married in the lake district of Padme’s home planet Naboo. Their relationship is very intense. Both share a strong sense of civic duty: Padme was elected queen of the Naboo when she was just 14 & Anakin is a keeper of the peace. They care deeply about issues such as how the galaxy must be governed, how much action needs to be taken versus when diplomacy must be prioritized.
Their strong sense of service has made them lonely young people. They’re far away from their families, surrounded by advisors, servants and droids - not friends.
They jump into their relationship with an eagerness that suggests it is their original caretakers they crave for.
Padme becomes pregnant while the Clone Wars are raging, and immediately Anakin begins to experience trouble with his sleeping. He imagines Padme is dying in childbirth, and the visions haunt him during the day. His fear that she will die ultimately leads to his decision to join the Dark side of the force. Senator Palpatine has manipulated him into believing that Sith Lords have discovered the power to prevent death itself.
Just like his mother before him, we need to look at Anakin’s story in terms of symbolism. It isn’t really about his specific experience with fatherhood : it’s about the universal conflict that men feel towards their own offspring. Even the way it is announced to him, in the Senate chambers, barely hidden from the rest of the Coruscant elite, implies some sort of entrapment. The columns around them seem to be like a cage that is closing in on his life. He is in the middle of the Wars - he should be celebrating his victory over General Grivious, but instead he is stuck with his wife and he has to absorb her anxiety & reassure her.
Anakin makes a weird, forced smile and says : “This is a happy moment.” But neither Padme nor the audience believe him. Nothing about him feels happy, he isn’t relaxed: he is tense.
At the end of Episode 3, Anakin attempts to kill Padme when she condemns the mass murders he’s committed against the younglings in the Jedi temple. Hr uses for the first time his “strangling” trick, which becomes his signature move in the original trilogy.
Palpatine makes Anakin believe that he’s killed Padme, but the truth is somewhat more nuanced. She dies of heartbreak shortly after giving birth to twins. For anyone who thought this was corny, it’s actually been proven by the scientific community that heartbreak reduces your life expectation (it diminishes the size of the telomeres in your body cells, which is the molecule that helps replicate your DNA).
As Lisa Feldman Barret wrote in How Emotions Are Made:
Emotional harm can shorten your life. Inside your body, you have little packets of genetic material that sit on the ends of your chromosomes like protective caps. They’re called telomeres. All living things have telomeres—humans, fruit flies, amoebas, even the plants in your garden. Every time one of your cells divides, its telomeres get a little shorter (although they can be repaired by an enzyme called telomerase). So generally their size slowly decreases, and at some point, when they are too short, you die. This is normal aging. But guess what else causes your telomeres to get smaller? Stress does. Children who experience early adversity have shorter telomeres. In other words, emotional harm can do more serious damage, last longer, and cause more future harm than breaking a bone
More severe cases involve patients actually dying of a broken heart, the myocardia just collapses under the weight of the sadness the human feels.
The original trilogy should be re-viewed with all of this new information we have. In the 80s, when Empire Strikes Back came out, the “I am your father” line became instantly iconic. But the plot twist was more like an “Oh My gosh!” moment rather than a profound reflection on fatherhood. The audience sympathized with Luke not because his father had been absent and negligent, but because his father’s job was to serve a fachist leader. It was the actions of Darth Vader as a political servant that were questioned, not his refusal to nurture a smaller being.
Padme is the opposite of Shmi. She is the archetype of the “bad” single mother. The bad single mother is the single mother who can’t deal with the situation and checks out of it. She collapses under the weight that she feels on her shoulders. She can't get over the heartbreak, she can’t find the will to live.
Society tends to punish the Padme’s just as much as it praises the Shmis. Television programs like “Teen Mom” are set up to shame the young deviants into adopting the correct behavior. The purpose of the show is to judge these young women into becoming self-sacrificing mothers.
Leia Organa - The Non-single Single Mother
Leia Organa is Anakin Skywalker’s daughter. She is raised by an adoptive frailly on Alderaan after she’s separated at birth from her brother Luke. Much like her mother, she becomes a dedicated public servant, a trusted leader and a beloved public figure.
She is raised by a wealthy family in the central galactic systems. The Organas teach her the ways of the elite political class. As an adult she serves the cause of the Rebels, and when she meets Han Solo in Episode 4, the mediocre smuggler fascinates her.
In the now famous scene from Hoth in Episode 5, Leia declares her love for Han Solo right as he’s about to be frozen in carbonite. The ultimate bad boy responds his chilling, because realistic “I know”.
Han is nothing compared to Leia. He drives a broken down ship, doesn’t have any morals or even a simple code of conduct, much less a cause that he’s dedicated his life to. He has nothing to offer her, and is definitely not in her league. But still, in Episode 6, the pair become an official item.
The last Trilogy was an opportunity to explore Leia’s experience with motherhood. By now we know that Leia’s grandmother was a “Good single mother”, she completely sacrificed herself to protect her son & more importantly she never questioned her status of sole caretaker (remember the “there was no father“ line). We also know that Leia’s mother was a public servant, and a passionate woman who allowed herself to fall deeply in love with a sensitive young man with a non existing support system. Leia’s mother was the “bad” single mother: driven only by her career (Queen of the Naboo, later a Senator of the Old Republic) she did not step up to the task when her destiny revealed itself to her.
Leia seems to share her mother’s taste in reckless young men with a lot of attitude and no emotional security to offer. It’s the excitement she craves, not the tranquility.
Her fate will be the same as her foremothers. She has a child with Han, but when she sends him away to be trained by Luke, she loses them both.
Their dialogue in Episode 7 goes like this:
Han Solo : Listen to me, will you? I know every time you... Every time you look at me you're reminded of him.
Leia : You think I want to forget him? I want him back.
Han Solo : There's nothing more we could have done. There's too much Vader in him.
Leia : That's why I wanted him to train with Luke. I just never should have sent him away. That's when I lost him. That's when I lost you both.
The last trilogy develops Leia’s character in a way that allows her to be something else than just a single mother. She loses her husband, she even loses her son to the dark side: but she never loses herself. Leia doesn’t allow her condition to define her. She becomes a leader of the Resistance even if it means going after her son’s New order.
In Episode 9, Leia even destroys her son to protect Rey - the symbolism is that she’s overcome her role as a mother, she’s rejected the notion that she must sacrifice everything for her son even if it goes against her own self interest (like Shmi). She also rejects the idea that her partner abandoning her is the end of her. It isn’t. Unlike her mother, she finds the will to live, and to lead the next generation of freedom fighters and peace keepers.
The saga ends on a hopeful note for all of us single mothers out there. It comes with a message for us : we don’t need to choose between the austere Shmi and the weak Padme. We can instead decide that this “single mom” problem is kind of like beauty : it lies in the eyes of the beholder.
Single moms don’t need to think of themselves as failures, they don’t need to live in modest conditions, they don’t need to beg society's forgiveness for merely existing. They don’t need to be ashamed.
Single moms don’t need to erase their brains and their lives, and sink into an ocean of denial either. They don't need to be obsessed with their careers or caught up in romantic entanglements that are only going to exhaust them.
Single moms can just decide that they’re women, with beautiful, inspiring personalities and kind, loving hearts. Mothers are first and foremost, the leaders of the young, the protectors of the realm and the makers of the future. It’s not that it doesn’t matter that they’re alone. It’s that they don’t have to be alone at all.
