So… I was talking about it earlier and the creative juices are flowing so… have a snippet from something I plan on writing for Careless.

[Before I write, I would like to make something clear. The character Ace existed BEFORE I started using the name Ace. I actually started using the name Ace because I created Ace as a character and then a few months later went “actually that’s a good name mine now”. Sooo. Anygays-]

START OF SNIPPET

The Ghost stared at the spell book on the ground in front of him. He hovered a few inches off of the forest floor. A few flowers poked into his stomach area, phasing through the ethereal skin and organs. His expression was cold as he read the page before him.

Large letters sprawled across the top of the paper. REVIVIFY. The book seemed to scream the word at The Ghost. This is what he had been waiting for. This is what none of his supposed friends had attempted to do, whoever they were. The Ghost felt his fingers tingle, as if his translucent flesh knew that it would soon be solid again.

The Ghost reached out, anger and hatred powering him forward and passed the fear of what might happen if this didn’t work. Anger for the world that had robbed him off his former life and his memories of that former life. Hatred for the notion of people who didn’t come for him, but were supposed to care.

As The Ghost’s fingers brushed against the paper, he let out a long sigh. As he closed his glassy eyes, he began to mutter the incantation written on the page. 

A warmth began to course through his body. It started at his chest and pulse outward, slowly reaching every nerve in his ghostly body. The Ghost opened his eyes as he finished the incantation and watched as his hand became opaque in a slow wave. The Ghost clenched his hand into a fist as the warmth reached his fingertips.

The Ghost was suddenly struck with a memory. A name. His name. Ace. The name was followed by many others. Family and friends and enemies. 

One name made Ace’s stomach drop and his heart go cold. It was the name of an enemy who should be a friend. Lavender. The person who had killed him.

Another memory came to Ace. This one hit him a little harder. It was a title. God of War. Ace, the God of War. It felt out of place. Like an orange on an apple tree. And yet it was a memory nonetheless. Something that had meant something to Ace once. Perhaps long ago.

The words swam in Ace’s head as he tried to grasp at the memory. He felt as though there should be something more. As he thought that, another memory came to him. It only added to his confusion. It was a book. A heavy book with a worn leather cover. It was a history book. No. Not only a history book. It was a history book with a chapter dedicated to Ace.

Ace tried to think. He tried to remember. He tried to push past a foggy barrier in his brain that he had never even thought to touch. There should be more. There was more. The title, the book, it wasn’t the whole truth. There was more to the story.

The memory of the book and the title lasted for only a few moments. A rising panic filled Ace’s chest as something seemed to grab at his memories, ripping them away from him. The thing was cold and dark and clammy. It was mad and afraid and unforgiving. And then it was gone, taking memories of the title and the book with it.

Ace was left alone, kneeling on the forest floor. He stared at the book in front of him, feeling too dazed to form any coherent thought. He was left with only one feeling. Vengefulness.
