Say It
ఌpaige bueckers x reader

"Paige please..."
The only two words your brain could fathom right now, and you were lucky they made a sentence. She was the reason why.
"Please what baby?" She asked, but she knew the answer. She always knew what you wanted. She could tell from the way your body pushed itself closer to her hand. From the way your jaw fell open just from her light touches. From how soaked you were. Paige was fluent in the language your body spoke. Yet, she still didn't give it what it wanted needed.
"Come on now, I can't give you what you want unless you tell me what it is? I'm not a mind reader, baby." She insisted. That was a lie. Partially, anyway. She could read you in every way. Her hand traveled familiar paths down your hot skin. One of her hands traced careful circles on your thigh as the other was pressed into the bed, right beside your head. "Here? Is here good?" She pressed when you whined as her hand grazed over your wet lips.
"Baby-"
"Or here? Hm?" She cut you off, her fingers sinking between your lips to graze your clit. Just as fast as they were there, they left. A frustrated whine left your lips once again. "Come on baby, it's a simple question. Where do you want me?"
"Paige just-" You couldn't complete the sentence, but you could lead her hand down to where you wanted her. She tutted, pulling her wrist away from your hold.
"Now you know better." She scolded, but there was no real bite in her words. "Come on baby, just say it. All that running your mouth earlier and now you can't use your words? Say it baby, tell me what you want so I can give it to you. Can't be that hard." She teased, a cocky smile coming across her face as she watched you struggle every time her fingers brushed against your clit.
"Paige please. Need you so bad, P."
"Mhm, keep going. Tell me where." She encouraged, finally giving in and rubbing your that perfect button between your soaked lips.
"E- everywhere. Need your fingers inside, need your mouth on me. Please Paige- oh-" You were cut off by her finally giving you what you needed. Two of her fingers finally slipped into you with ease.
“That’s my good girl, finally using your mouth for something good.” She said with a proud smile. You moaned, gripping tight onto her shoulder as she smoothly got into a rhythm. “I’ma give you what you want but you gotta keep being vocal for me, ‘kay?”
“Mkay.” You panted out. You would do anything she wanted as long as she stopped talking and put her mouth where you needed it. Paige pressed a sweet kiss to your temple, continuing to press wet, open mouth kisses down the rest of your body until she reached between your thighs.
“I need to hear you from down here, baby. Let your moans be loud as your disrespect was earlier and keep your eyes on me.” She ordered, and you knew the underlying promise she hadn’t said. If you don’t listen, she’ll stop. So, you nodded in agreeance, your hand finding the back of her head as a silent urge. Paige laughed at your impatience, her free hand rubbing your thigh comfortingly as her fingers kept up her place. She press a swift kiss to your clit before taking between her lips,, sucking hard.
“Paige!” You cried out. Already, she almost had you throwing your head back as you let out a loud moan, finally receiving some relief. Paige kept up her pace with her fingers, flicking your clit with her tongue. Her first two fingers curled against your spot deliciously before she added a third, grazing that same spot again. “Oh fuck- right there, baby.” You said, as if she didn’t already know.
Paige sped her fingers up as her tongue circled around your pink clit before taking it into her mouth once again, never breaking eye contact.
“Oh goddd, Paige…” You whined. Though you hoped there was no god watching how Paige devoured your pussy right now. Your fingers gripped her hair harder as her fingers began to thrust harder, her eyebrows furrowing as she focused on you and your pleasure. She moaned into you, feeling the way you tugged on her blonde hair, as if she could get any closer. Just as you were about to reach that peak, just as your aching hole clenched around Paige’s fingers, she pulled her mouth away.
“Say it, tell me what you need, baby.” She said, waiting for you to follow through as her fingers kept moving. She watched with a smile as your mouth opened and close, being patient for the words to fall from your pretty lips. All that came was another moan.
“I know baby, I know. But you gotta tell me, show me how sorry you are for how you spoke earlier. Use your words now, pretty thing.” Paige tried to comfort, but her voice was only making it worse. She still was patient with you, her fingers keeping you right on edge. She knew you needed her mouth to finish you off.
“Need to cum, please Paige, please…”
“Mhm, that’s it baby.” She praised proudly, pressing a soft kiss right below your belly button before she removed her fingers only to be replaced by her tongue. Her tongue moved in and out quickly while her soaked digits rubbed your clit just as rapidly as her tongue fucked you.
“Oh shit-” Your back arched up off the bed, head thrown back as a high pitched moan left your throat that you knew Paige would mock you for later. Your body tensed, overwhelmed by the sudden change of pace before you came, making a mess on Paige’s tongue that she was happy to clean up.
Your legs spasmed around Paige’s head as she tenderly licked up the creamy essence that your pussy couldn’t seem to stop from exiting your body. Your now empty hole clenched around nothing as Paige pressed a final kiss to your clit before leaving to go get something to clean you up. You panted, trying to allow your body to come down from its high.
You were drifting off when Paige returned, only to receive a slap to your thigh that woke you right up. You look at her, confused until your eyes wander down to find the false dick attached to her hips. She smirks at the confused look on your face.
"Not you thinking we was done. Nah, turn that ass over."
"But Paige-"
"What'd I say?" She interrupted your protest, grabbing your hips and pulling down closer to the edge of the bed. “I said keep your eyes on me, and even though you look so fucking sexy when you throw your head back while you cum for me, that’s breaking eye contact baby. And contrary to what some may say, I’m a woman of my word. So we’re not done.”
“Paige, I don’t know if I can do anymore.” You admitted. The blonde haired made a noise that sounded like a scoff in response to your words. She shook her head at you, her hands traveling up and down your trembling thighs carefully.
“Come on now, you’ve done much more than this before. If you really don’t think you can, you know what to say, but I think you better tell your pussy that.” She tempted, her hand wandering to your aching cunt just to drag her thumb up and down your sopping lips. “She’s so ready for me, I know you can take more. Plus I think I deserve it after how you treated me earlier, hm?” Paige egged on, her fingers still mindlessly teasing you as her blue eyes bored into yours.
She was right too, you did kind of feel bad for the things you had said earlier. You were already thinking of ways to make it up to her but this was not on the list. Though, feeling the way her thumb began to rub your clit slowly, the way your body was reacting to her touch, you couldn’t help but to agree to go another round.
Paige smiled, her hand still making a mess of your pussy as she leaned down to give your soft lips a delicate kiss. You could still taste yourself on her tongue from when she had just made you cum before.
Paige pulled away just as she felt herself getting too deep into the kiss, a wet string of spit still connecting the two of you before you leaned up to get one last peck in. She finally pulled her hand away from your lower lips with a wet tap, bringing her thumb up to suck your juices off as she waited for you to turn around.
“Yeah, perfect like that, pretty girl.” The athlete complimented, pushing her palm into your back to make your arch a little bit deeper once you got on all fours. “Just like that…” she muttered to herself staring at your round ass. You already has a good body when you’d first met her, but she’d like to think the growth in your glutes was due to her, and not just because she’s been making you work out with her.
Paige gave your ass a quick tap, watching it move before she spread you for her, leaning down to spit on your pussy. Though, it wasn’t like it needed anymore lubricant. She spit on the 7-inch shaft as well, using her hand to get it nice and wet for you. With that, she leaned down to press a swift kiss to the side of your neck, one hand gripping your hip while the other guided the purple dick inside of you.
You both groaned out at the entrance. You because of the feeling, and her because she was enjoying watching the length disappear between your soaked lips.
“Fuck.” She let the curse tumble from her lips with ease. Once the length had completely disappeared, she let go of the base of the cock, instead, letting that hand travel up to grip your shoulder. She gave you one testing thrust to get used to the intrusion before her thrust became harsher. Her pace was fast, not wasting a second before picking up speed.
Paige bit her lip, watching the way your as recoiled against her hips before giving into temptation and giving it a hard smack. That plus her constant thrusts almost caused you to lose balance, but Paige was quick to fix you up.
“Nuh uh, keep that arch how I like it.” She scolded. It seemed like she was only getting rougher as the grip on your hip tightened and she began pulling your hips back to meet her thrusts.
“Oh fuck, Paige-” You moaned out. Loud clapping sound around the room as you gripped the sheets beneath you.
“Huh? You wanted to say something, baby?” She asked, breathing heavily as she waited for you to reply. She tsked when nothing but moans fell from your lips. “Damn baby, I know it feels good but I asked you something.” Paige said, her caring tone contrasting with the way her hips met your ass harshly. She swiftly swooped your hair into makeshift ponytail, pulling you up so her lips were next to your ear. “Since you can’t think of what to say right now, I’ma tell you. Say you’re sorry. Say you’re sorry for how you spoke to me earlier, you’re sorry for you’re nasty ass attitude. Cause, you are, right baby? You sorry?”
You nodded as much as you could with her tight grip on your hair, a whine falling from your lips once again. Paige chuckled, licking up your neck before sucking a hickey into your skin, right behind your ear.
“Say that shit then. Tell me you’re sorry.”
“I’m sorry Paige. So sorry, oh fuck- didn’t mean it baby. Just missed you so oh-“ You gasped as Paige made a particularly hard thrust rub right up against your spot. “Shit Paige…”
“Yeah, I know pretty girl.” Paige said, finally releasing your hair from her grip. Only for her to push your head down into the pillow, her other hand still squeezing your hip. “I’ll accept your apology, just need you to cum for me baby.”
Paige kept aiming for that same spot, getting it everytime. Your moans were getting louder and louder with every thrust, almost overpowering the sound of applause in the room. You were right on edge, clenching your eyes tight as your body began to tremble against the mattress in a way only Paige could make it shake. Your hole clenched so tight around Paige’s cock that it made it hard for her to continue at her pace, but she kept on. Thank god you married an athlete.
“Come on baby, show me how sorry you are. Give it to me.” Just as she finished her sentence, her hand reach around to rub your clit, her fingers quickly matching her thrusts pace. That combined with the sound of her voice, plus the way that her dick kept brushing so perfectly against your spot had you falling apart just for her. “Oh yeah, just like that baby.” She praised as you came, her hand not slowing down as she watched you squirt all over her hand as pussy pushed her out along with your cum.
With shaky legs, you collapsed. Panting tired from the intensity of it all. You felt, Paige's cool hands gently rubbing on your hot skin, attempting to calm you down. Once your breath leveled out, she turned you to lay in your back once again.
"You okay?" She asked, hands running over your hips. You nodded, your heavy eyelids causing Paige to smile faintly. Your hands found hers and you intertwined them as she leaned down to peck your lips.
"I'm sorry." You whispered against skin, already trying to regain your strength to show just how sorry you were.
"I know." She whispered back with a smile.

could you do a rafe x reader where the reader has a panic attack in front of sarah for the first and she knows to get the reader to rafe and he immediately calms her down?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
rafe cameron x reader | hurt & comfort | (pogue!reader, mean girls, panic attack, crying, comforting!rafe, insecure!reader.)
︶︶︶ ⊹ ︶︶ ୨♡୧ ︶︶︶ ⊹ ︶︶
No one figured Rafe Cameron would go for a Pogue. For all his life he’d been the number 1 Pogue hater, the biggest Kook defender, and overall just a pretentious asshole. That’s why it was the shock of the island when you showed up on his arm to Midsummer’s, wearing a dress that costed more than your rent with an anxious smile on your face.
Your boyfriend had promised to stick by your side for the entire night, and you were sure he meant it when he said it, but he hadn’t taken into account just how enthused the elders were going to be to see him. He wasn’t that teenage boy they knew anymore, instead a man living alone and dealing with his troubles; thanks to you.
It was halfway through the night when you went to the bathroom, the few glasses of champagne had your head feeling fuzzy and your bladder full. You locked yourself in the cubicle and started to do your business, before you heard voices from outside.
“It’s strange though, right?” The door closed behind the girls that had walked in, making you flinch as you stood to sort your dress out.
“Rafe with a Pogue. Yeah, definitely weird,” a squeaky voiced girl agreed with a laugh.
“It won’t last, trust me. He’s only with her for the image, it makes him look good to do charity for a girl like that. I’m pretty sure she’s a waitress at the club,” the other one responded.
“I’ll be sure to find him later and remind him of that.” The two of them giggled to themselves, gushing over how hot your boyfriend was for a couple more minutes before leaving. You didn’t step out of the cubicle until you were sure that you were alone, hot tears running down your cheeks.
Maybe it was the alcohol in your system, or maybe it was the fact those girls had said everything you’d been thinking for the last few months you’d been together, you weren’t sure, but something about their words had hurt your feelings; and had sent you into a spiral. You sat down on the plush purple chair, breaths coming out rapidly and shakily.
“Oh my god, what happened?” You hadn’t even heard the door open, but as you turned your head you found Sarah rushing at you. She knelt down next to you, holding your hands as you let out fearful whimpers. “Fuck. Okay, stay here, okay? Don’t move!” She ran back out and you stared at the door, holding your chest anxiously.
Only a minute later the door was swinging open and Rafe was storming in, striding over to you. “Hey, hey. Look at me,” he demanded, gentle but firmly as he cupped your cheeks in his hands. “Breathe for me, okay? Slow breaths, you got it.”
He’d seen you like this a few times, he’d learnt the best ways to get you to relax. He held your hand over his own chest, feeling his heartbeat underneath your palm. He gave you a reassuring smile as you copied his breathing, gripping onto his fingers.
“Good girl,” he drawled, pulling you from the chair into his lap where he sat on the floor. He stroked your hair, leaving gentle kisses over your cheek. “You want to tell me what happened?”
“It’s stupid,” you croaked out, still gripping onto his hand.
“No. It’s not. Tell me what happened, so I can sort it out and get the both of us out of the women’s bathroom,” he joked, making you giggle tearfully.
You gave him a wobbly smile. You didn’t have much of a choice now, it was time to admit to him the insecurities you’d had over the last few months; the ones that kept you up at night as he slept soundly beside you. “No one here thinks I’m good enough for you.”
“What?” His face scrunched up in confusion. “Baby, what’re you talking about?”
“I— I’m a Pogue,” you whispered, as if you were admitting a crime.
“I know that,” he shrugged. “I’m not that oblivious, sweetheart. Why does that matter? Why are you saying this now?”
“Because everyone thinks it Rafe! I’m sure you have before, I know I have! Everyone here thinks you’re an idiot for being with me, that you’ve lost your mind. Maybe they’re right,” you cried out.
His hands grabbed your face firmly, leaning his forehead against your’s as he held you in place. “You’re the love of my life.”
“What?” You murmured.
“You are the love of my life. I don’t give a fuck if you’re a Pogue, I don’t care that you eat pizza like you’ve not eaten in years, or that you swear like a pirate. You’re my girl, and I love you. I don’t care about other peoples opinions, because they’re irrelevant,” he explained slowly, caressing your cheek as he spoke. “Now, do you want to go home or do you want to get the biggest bottle of champagne and make fun of these losers?”
“The second one,” you whispered, staring at him like a lovesick puppy.
He smirked, leaning in and pressing his lips to yours. “That’s my girl,” he mumbled, biting down on your bottom lip lightly to make you giggle. “Now, next time you get some dumb shit in your head you gonna tell me? Or do I have to spend all our loving conversations in the bathroom?”
You laughed, wiping your teary eyes as he helped you off his lap and back to your feet. He adjusted your flower crown with a cheesy grin, looking at you like you hung the moon and the stars. If you didn’t believe his words before, you definitely did now. “You don’t like the bathroom?”
“Well… it’s definitely nicer than the men’s, I’ll give you that.”

garden daisy (part 2) // ellie williams
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*・゜゚・* summary: ellie makes a new friend, and you feel all weird about it.
*・゜゚・* pairing: modern!ellie x reader
*・゜゚・* content: sfw
*・゜゚・* length: 1.6k
this is part two of this series! find part one here
okay so i feel like the way i've organized this series is kind of confusing as it started as a random blurb... technically part one is this blurb however the real story starts in the xmas fic! the blurb just kind of exists floating around somewhere before the events of that and sets up the dynamic. call it part 0.5 i guess. also i'm so sorry if ur name is haley it was genuinely the first name i thought of hahaha
Tumblr media
after christmas, once you’re all settled back into life at college, ellie gets a new job. it’s just a few shifts a week at a music store, but she seems to be enjoying it. you’re happy for her; it’s nice to see her getting out of the apartment more, doing something that allows her to be in her element.
but then she starts mentioning a girl she works with. like, a lot.
“dude, look at what haley sent me today, i was dying.”
“haley had, like, the coolest shirt on at work.”
“oh my god, so i found out haley likes comics, too.”
at first, it doesn’t really bother you. then, it’s a case of you trying not to let it bother you. why even should it? she’s allowed to make new friends; her life doesn’t revolve around you.
still, you don’t like the way your chest starts to twist every time she gets mentioned, every time you see ellie smiling at her phone. you can hear them on facetime frequently through the thin walls of your apartment, and you more often than not end up shoving your headphones in to drown it out.
they start spending time together outside of work, too. she mentions that they’re going to see an exhibit together on a shared day off, and it takes everything for you to look up from your laptop, give her a tight smile and utter, “cool.”
you can tell she’s a bit dispirited by your reaction, like she’s debating saying something. she leaves it, though, just nodding once and pursing her lips before walking away. you kick yourself for it immediately — wishing you’d tried harder to appear enthusiastic for her. you’re worried it could be the seed of a wedge being driven.
it’s not like she’s completely neglected your friendship. you live together. you see her every day. she still gently knocks at your ajar door, poking her head around and asking if you want to watch a movie with her. you make dinner together on friday nights, something you’d done since you moved out of the dorms and got a semi-decent place.
you’re just so used to it being the two of you. sure, you both have other friends, but you’re best friends. you can’t help but feel a little uneasy all of a sudden someone new is making their way up the ladder, ellie not having quite as much time for you anymore.
at least, that’s what you tell yourself the reason is. you know the real one.
you eventually meet the esteemed haley when she comes over to hang out, and to your petty dismay she well and truly lives up to the boasting. you’ve seen pictures of her (as in, you found her on instagram and stalked her at two in the morning), but she’s even prettier in person. she’s sweet, too, giving you a hug and saying how great it is to finally meet you. ellie talks about you all the time, apparently.
the evening’s spent with the tv on, a few drinks sipped. you’re on one side of the couch, ellie on the other, new friend in the middle. you hate how genuinely likeable she is; she goes out of her way to speak to you, asking you questions about yourself and chatting jovially when you find common ground. she’s cool, smart, witty — it’s impossible not to compare yourself, and feel subpar. like old news.
and you wish you weren’t, but you’re reading into every little thing. the way the two of them easily bounce off of each other’s jokes, the way you can see even where you’re from how ellie’s eyes light up when she looks at her. deciding three’s a crowd and you’re just hurting your own feelings, you call it pretty early.
when you stand after finishing your drink and announce that you’re going to bed, you note the way that ellie’s face drops. “oh… really?”
you scrunch your nose, trying to sound untroubled. “yeah, i’m kinda tired, so…”
“m’kay,” she replies, chewing slightly at the inside of her cheek. she knows you better than that. since you first met, you’ve never been ‘kinda tired’ by nine.
after a pause and a quick look back and forth between the two of you, haley gives you a smile, reiterating her earlier statement. “well, it was so nice to meet you, anyway.”
you return it, nodding. your eyes flit to ellie for a split-second. “yeah, you too. see you both later.”
with that, you place your glass in the sink across the room and head off down the hall.
you change and get ready for bed, although the plan was never to sleep. you’re nestled under a blanket, lights dim and a candle burning as you keep your eyes trained on the bullshit stream of youtube videos you’d put on. you’re not really paying attention, mind well and truly elsewhere; simultaneously feeling sorry for yourself, and like the most petty, mean person in the world.
you feel pathetic for wishing ellie’s new friend wasn’t so easy to get along with. she came off as a nice person, and not in a sickly, fabricated way. you could understand how she’d easily tugged ellie out of her shell. a part of yourself had been secretly hoping she was irritating, or bitchy, or weird towards you — you just wanted something to latch onto, something to validate all the uncomfortable emotions that had been swirling ever since she became prominent.
but there was nothing. now all you’re left with is a weird bitterness towards a perfectly normal, sweet girl, her only crime being fetching up a childish possessiveness within you.
you don’t even understand why you’re like this over her in particular; ellie was always an introvert, but it wasn’t like she was a complete recluse. she’d had a serious girlfriend in high school, seen a couple of girls your first year of college, and you don’t remember feeling anywhere near how you are right now. you just guessed you didn’t have as much understanding of how you looked at her back then, combined with the domesticity of now having your own real place luring you into a warped way of thinking.
you hear haley leave around an hour and a half after you’d taken yourself to bed, followed by ellie shuffling around the kitchen space. the tap runs and there are a few clinks as she washes then places the three glasses to dry, hitting the lights off. her room’s further down the hall from yours, and she hesitates as she’s making her way there.
a few light taps sound from the other side of the door. “you asleep?”
“… no,” you call out softly, watching as it cracks open and ellie picks her way in. wordlessly, she plops herself onto the bed next to you, arm behind her head. you shift away a little, offering her more room.
“what’re you watching?”
“uh…” grabbing the remote, you pause the video for a beat so the title shows. you’re not even sure; you’d just selected the first you saw, then let the rest autoplay. “… ‘six most disturbing forest encounters caught on camera’.”
she chuckles. “spooky.”
“eh… they’re all fake.” you look up at her, smiling a little.
“could’ve fooled me.”
“i’m sure,” you laugh lightly, feeling the need to turn away when she goes to meet your eyes.
it’s quiet for a while, but you can sense she wants to say something. it’s not like one of the times she waltzes into your room simply to hang out, sit at the side of one another peacefully.
“you okay?” she eventually asks gently, turning her head to regard you. you don’t meet it.
“yeah, i’m fine.”
“you sure? ‘cause… i don’t know. you seem a little…”
“i’m all good.” glancing up, you offer an unconvincing, flickery smile. “don’t worry.”
“… okay.”
you can tell it offers no comfort, but she doesn’t push it. just settles further into the bed, scratching at her chin.
her eyes dart from the tv screen to the wall, then back to you. “haley’s cool, right? guessed you guys would get along.”
“yeah, she seems nice.”
she’s really not being subtle; but then again, neither are you. you’d been perfectly friendly while you were all together, but the way you’d disappeared coupled with your increasingly half-hearted responses whenever she was brought up pointed elsewhere.
“seriously, what’s up?” she turns onto her side to face you, resting her head on her arm. “i don’t like this.”
you roll your eyes, sighing as you turn, mirroring her. “it’s stupid.”
“what’s stupid?”
your mind flashes with a million ways you can get an overview of your feelings out, without having to tell her the root cause. “i don’t know, i’m just… like, used to it being… y’know, me and you.”
she pulls a face, letting out a fond scoff and furrowing her brow. “what do you mean?”
a tiny groan sounds from your throat, fingertips rubbing at your eye. “i’m just being stupid. fuckin’ embarrassing.”
laughing quietly again, she narrows her eyes a little. “what, are you, like… jealous?”
“no, i just… i don’t know. ignore me.” you’re trying to ignore the way you can feel your cheeks heat up when she says that word. you’d known all along that’s what you were, but being confronted with it is a whole other sensation entirely.
she doesn’t say anything for a moment, just keeps a small smirk on her face and looks down. “that is stupid.”
“right. thanks.”
“no, like…” subconsciously shuffling closer, her leg brushes yours. she quickly moves it. “dude, i can have other friends, but no-one’s gonna be you.”
you blink, thrown by her sincerity. you’d half-expected her to poke a little fun, call you a dumbass. she continues, your eyes meeting hers as she settles her head into the palm of her hand. “you’re always gonna be my best friend.”
yeah, i know, you think. that’s the problem.

Unspoken Words
Tumblr media
The Hard Deck was alive with the usual chaos—a mix of laughter, the low hum of conversation, and the occasional clink of billiard balls. But Jake couldn’t focus on any of it. His eyes were locked on you, sitting at the bar with a drink in hand, seemingly lost in thought.
He sighed as Bradley’s voice buzzed in his ear, growing more frustrated by Jake’s lack of attention.
"I’m listening," Jake lied smoothly, his gaze darting back to you, his smirk deepening when he caught you stealing a glance his way.
Bradley groaned. "No, you’re not. You’re staring at her again."
Jake ignored him, already halfway to standing as he grabbed his beer and started toward you.
You noticed him immediately, and a wave of annoyance washed over you. "Great," you muttered under your breath, pretending not to see him as he slid up beside you.
"Hey, sweetheart," Jake greeted casually, leaning one elbow on the bar as he turned his full attention to you.
"What do you want, Jake?" you sighed, barely sparing him a glance.
"Ouch." He chuckled, placing a hand over his chest in mock offense. "Not even a hello? You’re killing me here."
"Hello," you said flatly, turning back to your drink. "Goodbye."
Jake chuckled, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes—something he quickly masked with his usual charm. "You know, you don’t have to play hard to get. I already know you like me."
You turned to him, an incredulous laugh escaping you. "Excuse me?"
He smirked. "Oh, come on. Don’t act like you don’t. I’ve seen the way you look at me when you think I’m not paying attention."
"Wow," you deadpanned. "The ego on you is truly something to behold."
Jake laughed, but the sound was softer this time, almost vulnerable. "You say that, but you’re still talking to me."
You rolled your eyes, setting your drink down with a little more force than necessary. "Only because you won’t leave me alone."
He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a more serious tone. "What if I told you there’s a reason for that?"
"Let me guess," you said, crossing your arms. "Because you think you’re irresistible and I’m just another name on your list of conquests?"
Jake’s smirk faltered, and for a moment, something raw flashed across his face. "You really think that’s all you are to me?" he asked, his voice quieter now.
"Isn’t it?" you shot back. "You flirt with everyone, Jake. Why would I be any different?"
"Because you are different!" he snapped, surprising you with the sudden intensity in his tone. "God, do you have any idea what you do to me? I can’t even sit in a room with you without losing my damn mind."
You stared at him, momentarily stunned by his outburst. "Jake, I…"
"No, let me finish," he interrupted, stepping closer. "I flirt because it’s easy. Because it keeps things light and stops me from getting in too deep. But with you… it’s not easy. It’s terrifying."
"Why?" you asked, your voice softer now.
"Because you matter," he admitted, his voice breaking slightly. "Because you’re the first person who’s ever made me feel like this, and I don’t know what to do with it."
"Jake…" you started, but he wasn’t done.
"I know I’ve screwed up," he continued, his eyes searching yours. "I know I’ve given you every reason to think I don’t care. But I do. More than I can put into words. And yeah, maybe I flirt too much, and maybe I’m an idiot, but I’m your idiot if you’ll have me."
Your heart ached at the vulnerability in his voice, but your walls were still up. "And what about the brunette? Or the one before her? How do I know this isn’t just another game to you?"
Jake exhaled sharply, running a hand through his hair. "They didn’t mean anything. None of them did. I was just… trying to distract myself. From you. From how much I want you and how scared I am of messing this up."
"You’re scared?" you asked, a hint of disbelief in your tone.
"Terrified," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "Because you’re not like anyone else. You see through all my bullshit, and you still manage to get under my skin. And the thought of losing you before I even have you? It kills me."
The air between you felt heavy, charged with unspoken tension. Jake stepped closer, his hands hesitating before settling on your hips. "I’m not asking you to trust me right away," he said quietly. "But I’m asking for a chance. A real one. Let me prove to you that I’m serious."
You looked into his eyes, seeing nothing but sincerity. "Jake…"
"Please," he whispered, his voice cracking slightly. "Say something before I embarrass myself even more."
You took a deep breath, your resolve wavering. "You're such an idiot," you whispered, your voice barely audible. Before you could second-guess yourself, you leaned in, pressing your lips to his.
Jake's hands found their way to your waist, gripping gently at first, then with more certainty as he kissed you back with fervor.
His lips moved against yours with an intensity that made your heart race. When he finally pulled away, both of you were left breathless, your foreheads resting against each other.
Jake cupped your face in his hands, his touch gentle but grounding. His soft laugh broke the silence, warm and relieved. "Yeah," he murmured, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "But I'm your idiot."
For the first time, you didn’t correct him.

why do you wear that?- viktor
~viktor x fem!reader ~ tags/cw: fluff, established friendships, semi-canon (i think), talking about viktor's illness ~ wc: 1.1k ~ not proofread cause im lazy (i’m also trying to figure out how to write viktor so the dialogue might feel a little choppy)
“Why do you always wear that?” Viktor’s soft question floats through the lab, his voice quieter than you’d heard all day.
You don’t pull your gaze away from the notes before you, the red pen highlighting the mistakes you made from your previous experiment, and dear gods, there are many. Each equation had some sort of marking, whether in yours or Viktor’s messy scrawl. It is safe to say the experiment had not been successful, but it is still in the early stages and no one was injured so it can technically be counted as a sort of win.
“Wear what?”
“That ring.” Within your peripherals, you see Viktor point a finger towards your left hand. “Even when you work you wear it.”
The thin metal ring on your middle finger seems to heat up under the scrutiny, branding itself into your skin so even if you were to quickly remove the jewellery, the evidence would be damning.
“Oh.” you finally tear your eyes from the journal to find your partner staring at your hand, question simmering in golden eyes.
“That is not an answer.” he tilts his head, eyes focusing on the metal you are now twisting out of habit.
“I know it’s not an answer,” your reply is mumbled as you turn back towards the journal before you, eyes set downcast not in returned attention but in hopes your inquisitive partner would drop it.
Silence fills the space for a few breaths before Viktor presses on.
“Are you going to give me an answer?”
The whine of wheels on stone pierces the room, the hex-core humming in response to the sudden noise.
“Do I have to?”
“No.” he hums, inching closer to you with squeaking wheels. “But I would like you to.”
Air leaves your body in an annoyed sigh, and you click the lid back on your pen as you feel the warmth of his body slide up next to yours. Your heart begins to stutter, breathing an inch too shallow, skin prickling with anticipatory heat. This was a new reaction for you, something your brain has not been able to fully process since the first time you flinched back from Viktor’s touch as though he were a live wire. You know what it is, what is causing these symptoms but there is no time to sit and think of why and how and if. Those what-ifs that kept you awake night after night, mind racing and reeling until the only thing that could calm you down was the cold shock of a shower.
“Hello?” A finger flicks the centre of your forehead, the thump stinging your skin. “What is wrong with you? Should I call Jayce?”
You rub at your skin, feeling heat spread through your cheeks at the proximity between the two of you. Not a few feet between your chests, knees touching, fingers millimetres from another on the desk, Viktor’s face right there, so close you could see the barely there freckles that adorned his cheeks like stars on a moonless night. You could reach out and grab him, slide your hands over his jaw and press your mouth to his within a few seconds, within one breath you could kiss him and seal your fate.
“Why’d you hit me?” you blurt out, brows furrowing as though pain radiated through your skull.
“I flicked you.” Viktor rolls his eyes,  used to your dramatics and retracts his hand from the desk. “Answer my question.”
“I was going to before you hit me.” you give your forehead a final rub with your fingers then extend your hand between the two of you, metal glowing in opalescent light.
“If you are going to continue to stare into nothing, I will be calling the doctor down-”
“Okay! Gods, Vik. Why are you so-” You turn an accusatory glance at your partner. “Why do you need to know so much? Is it yours?”
Viktor shrugs. “I don’t know, is it?” gesturing to the jewellery with a raise of his eyebrows.
“Do you really not remember?” you try your hardest to hide the dejection in your voice as the corner of your lip twitches down once before you school your muscles back into neutral disinterest.
“Do I remember… Are you trying to insinuate that I am losing my memory along with my ability to breathe? That my body is just a ball of degenerating cells-” Viktor begins a what seems like a half-assed attempt at the prepared speech he had given Heimerdinger earlier this week regarding his latest health scare.
A groan leaves you as you drag your hands down your face, massaging your fingers into the pockets along your nose bridge. “Yes Viktor, that is exactly what I am suggesting since you can no longer remember that you are the one who made this for me when we were kids and I have worn this every single day for the past twenty-odd years.” the words stream from you as your patience snaps. “How you even remember my name is a miracle and I feel as though I should walk down to Heimerdinger’s office and have you taken off this project not because you're sick but because I might kill you if you keep asking me stupid questions.”
Viktor glares at you, his mouth set in a hard line and you are filled with regret at your outburst.
“Vik, I’m sorry. I didn’t-”
His stoic demeanour crumbles as a grin spreads across his cheeks, quiet laughter shaking his shoulders. “I cannot believe you are still wearing it.”
“Are you-”
“I had a feeling it was the ring I but it was so long ago that I’ve forgotten what it looked like.” he shrugs, leaning in for a closer look at the twisted metal. “It is a lot cruder than I remember. I was so proud of it but now that I am properly looking at it, it is not as well made as I remember.”
Viktor picks up your hand, twisting your palm around to inspect the ring from all angles.
“Did you seriously-“ you attempt once more to form a coherent sentence through your veil of disbelief.
“But I am touched to know that you’ve kept it this whole time, Kočička. It is very sweet.” Viktor smiles, teeth on display as he beams at the unencumbered display of affection you have towards him.
Your heart squeezes slightly, only a little, at the nostalgic pet name. Little Cat. Something he has called you since your days as kids in the undercity and kept going well into adulthood (his few years as your senior giving him the right to call you little)
“If it makes you feel better about being sentimental, I do still have the journal you gave me on our first day at the academy.” his fingers entwine with yours, the rough callouses of his palm brushing against your soft skin, as he settles your locked fingers into your lap. “I have not yet written in it but one day I will, when I find something worthy of such a gift.”
--- a/n: eee my first kinda long viktor fic, im still very very new to the lol world and lore so please be nice cause I've only seen arcane and lol fans scare me

Great Shift; On The Farm
Andy:
I’ve been having a hard time adjusting to my new body especially since it belonged to my big brother Henry.
Tumblr media
But Henry is having an even harder time with things. We are polar opposites and he hates having my “scrawny gay” body. (His words not mine)
That’s why my parents thought it would be a great idea for me to spend the summer with my grandpa on the farm.
My grandpa was also shifted into my cousin Garrett’s body which makes us the same age now. Weird right?
Tumblr media
So when I arrive I see my grandpa outside in Garrett’s body doing some work. And I’m surprised by how he looks. It’s been years since I’ve seen Garrett and his body looks a lot different.
Handsome, I might say.
I feel myself getting somewhat excited about the thought but immediately turned it down in my head. That’s still my cousin’s body with my grandpa in it.
I get dropped off by my dad (who’s in our neighbor Rogers body).
“Hey dad! You never looked better,” he says to my grandpa.
“Yeah and you look older,” he says with a big smirk and a wink.
“Geez, thanks.”
“Andy! How are you bud?” says my grandpa pulling me in for a hug and I can feel his shirtless sweaty body rubbing up on me.
“Hey grandpa!” I say trying not to get a boner.
“Oh no! I’m not grandpa anymore, I’m just Harry now.”
“Oh okay, sorry.”
“Hey don’t apologize, you and I are going to have a lot of fun this summer.”
Grandpa or ‘Harry’ messes up my hair a bit.
“Great, I can’t wait!”
My dad says goodbye to us as I grab my bags. Grandpa or Harry— walks in with me and we catch up for a few.
“How are things for you Andy? Are you adjusting well to your brother’s body?”
“ I guess so, at least better than Henry with mine. I don’t know it’s all still odd to me.”
“Well I know it takes time but just embrace it. This is probably permanent and as much as I hate it for your cousin— I’ve accepted his body as my own. I actually feel comfortable in it. Plus, your cousin was a prick prior to everything— god love him. I’d say this humbled him. Probably will humble Henry too. I remember when those boys used to pick on you.”
“Yeah…” I said looking down at my brothers hands. Flashbacks from years ago started to fill my head back when Henry and Garrett used to trick me into doing stupid stuff.
“But that doesn’t matter now, Andy. This is the new us. So let’s enjoy ourselves! Wanna beer? You’re old enough now haha.”
“Uhhh sure!”
We both sat at the table and drank beer together.
I listen to Harry talk but I can’t take my eyes off of his shirtless chest. As he’s talking, he pulls off his shoes and I can instantly smell his stinky feet.
Tumblr media
He pulls his sock off and now I have a full view of his foot. He notices me looking and says, “sorry that smell so bad.”
“No you’re good, I don’t mind.”
“Oh no! What if I—”
He takes Garrett’s foot puts it up close to my face.
I jump back to make it seem like I was grossed out.
“Hahaha sorry! Just wanted to make you jump! You have no idea how much I appreciate these smelly toes…” he says rubbing his foot. “I used to have a hard time walking and now I can do anything!”
Harry continues to tell me about how things are so different from when he was originally 21. And I learned so much about him that I didn’t know.
Hours past and it’s around 8. We cook dinner together and both of us were pretty lit by then.
We eat and by this point both of us are ready for bed.
Harry, who doesn’t seem to have a care in the world and is way more hammered than me, strips off all of his clothes down to his briefs.
He crawls into bed and tells me to give him a hug. I do and I notice something strange… he’s fondling his crotch.
Oh my!! He has a boner! Even the head of his dick is coming out of his briefs.
Of course I don’t point it out, I just try to say good night to him.
But before he lets me go he gives me a kiss on the lips. It took me so off guard and yet I felt that same excited energy like earlier. As I pull back, he says to me, “you just wait, this is going to be the best summer yet.”
“Okay Harry, I’ll see you in the morning.”
Tumblr media
I hit the light and look at him in bed. My dick gets hard just at the sight of his feet.
I walk up to him and snoring. I carefully bend down and sniff them.
Fuckkkkk…
I go to the guest bedroom, licking my lips from Harry’s sloppy kiss and kick off all of the clothes I had on.
I look at Henry’s reflection in the mirror. I’ve had some shame about being put into this body. And yet it wasn’t anything I could control.
I think about what Harry said to me. “Embrace my new body.”
Well I guess if this is mine permanently then I need to accept it.
Tumblr media
I sit on the ground and look at the feet that used to belong to my big brother… but they’re mine now. I control them. And you know what? Like I them!
I grab on to MY 10 inch dick and started pumping it. Letting out grunts… shit it feels so good! I haven’t jerked off since the shift…
I rub my hands over my chest and back down to my thighs. I feel my butt cheeks and grab on to one.
I watch myself in the bedroom mirror making lustful faces to myself. Although I look like some country boy, I’m still the same skinny gay guy deep down. Or maybe I’m now something in the middle?
I feel my balls tighten and I knew I was close. Cum squirts out of me and it’s so much of it.
I feel so much relief, it’s been so long!
I clean myself up and try my cum for the first time.
I lay back in bed and begin to slowly fall asleep.
The Next Morning…
“Hey bud, you ready to start our day?” says Harry.
My first thing I see in morning is Harry’s bulge. Half way awake I’m almost tempted to touch it.
“Good morning…”
I pull the blanket off of me and Harry has a big grin across his face.
“Someone must have been having a good dream,” he says directing to my crotch.
I look down at my naked frame and my raging morning wood.
“Oh sorry!” I say tossing the blanket back over.
“Oh don’t be! Also, don’t worry about hiding your parts from me. Especially that handsome thing you got between your legs.”
I pull the blanket back and Harry sits by my bed.
“Do you mind if I?” he says gesturing to it again.
“Sure!”
Harry grabs my dick and I let out a little grunt.
He starts running his fingers all over and I’m in such a state of shock I almost thought it was all a dream.
“Boy this is such a good lookin cock! Sorry for playing with your junk. I’m just so horny in this body and it’s been a bit since I’ve seen someone else’s bits.”
“I don’t mind at all Harry.”
Harry continues to fondle my wood and it’s almost too much to handle. I need to just tell him how I feel, I mean he can’t make it more obvious on his feelings.
“Harry!”
“Yeah?”
“I have to tell you something?”
“What is it?”
“I’m so attracted to you, I don’t know if it’s right or wrong but I want you so bad right now.”
“Well, I have to say that I have the same feelings. And honestly don’t know what to do with them either.”
“Well we could just act on them…”
Harry puts my cock down and gets close to my face.
“If we do this we can’t go back.”
“I know.”
“Also we can’t tell anyone.”
“I won’t tell a single person.”
“Good.”
Harry kisses me with so much passion, he kisses down my neck, my chest, all the way until he’s face to face with my cock.
Harry sucks me off and I watch him work my dick. He feels up and down my Harry balls.
“Ohhhh god Harry!!!”
His warm mouth feels so good. I can only hold out for so long….
“Fuccccc!!!!! Harry! I’m gonna cum!”
I expected him to pull back but he keeps his mouth on my dick.
I explode into Harry’s mouth. He sucks all of it out of me until I’ve released every last drop.
He looks up at me with a big grin and cum dripping from his lips, “you taste good bud!”
“Thanks lol, so… do you want me to…”
Before I can say anything Harry yanks off his underwear and lays back in bed.
“Show me what you got,” he says with a smirk.

“Where’s your God now?” - Luigi Mangione x reader smut based on this post ↓
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
creds to @cranberrydietcoke and @ninemillimeterangel
summary: you are spending your night studying at Luigi's place, but a conversation about you being a christian changes the route of your night
warnings: oral sex (fem), dirty talk, blasphemy ig, unprotected sex, creampie
English is not my first language!
Spending the night studying at Lu's apartment made you a little nervous, not because of the finals, but because of him. You were going there to study and do it alone with a guy felt so, so wrong. As a christian, it was crazy to think you were about to do something like that.
You rang the doorbell and waited for him. He opened the door and smiled at you. You two went to his bedroom and sat on the floor to start studying. Your heart raced when he closed the door.
He opened the biology book, and you two started doing some flashcards, asking questions to each other and discussing how the human body works.
“You know what? Our bodies are amazing. It’s hard to believe that the nature is capable to create something like this”
— That’s why i believe in God - you said.
He looked at you, like you were saying the craziest thing ever.
“How can you prove that? Have you ever seen Him?”
— No, but I can feel Him, that’s all that matters.
“Just because we have perfect bodies with perfect systems, it doesn’t mean there’s a divine creator behind everything, you know?”
“I feel Him, I can talk to Him, you don’t understand”
“The science is the truth, I truly don’t understand how can you believe in something that’s not proven when you have real facts in front of you”
His face was getting closer to yours at every single word, the wetness of his breath was driving you crazy.
“Why are you freaking out? Just because i wanna follow the God's plan?”
“What the fuck are you talkin' about? This is the real life, and you're wasting it, you could be having the best experiences, but you rather be caged to this belief”
You lay on his bed, sighing in depths of confusion, desire and disappointment.
“you’re so pretty,” luigi whispers. it would be a waste, really, if you didn’t get all that you deserve.
he’s ecstatic at the sight of your body sprawled across his bed, he sinks down beside you and pulls your body closer to his.
“you've no idea how often i loose my mind thinking about this, about how stupid you are for depriving yourself so much”
As more he talks, he gets rougher, his feelings seems ten times more intense, his hands hold you tighter. He unzips your white dress and starts kissing your neck aggressively, leaving hickeys everywhere.
“I wanna give you real experiences, you want this, don't you?"
leaving you completely naked, he notices the wet mess that was happening all over your legs.
“you want me that fuckin’ bad?”
feeling the wetness pooling between your legs, he presses his nose against your clit, you cry out gripping his shoulders tightly.
"oh fuck, luigi," you gasp, your nails scratching his back. He smiles at you with his head between your legs shaking uncontrollably.
“So, where is your God now? I can’t see Him, I can’t feel Him…”
“oh my…” you were loosing your senses, his hands sliding up your thighs,
“look at you, you don’t even know who are you praying to”
"i want you, luigi," you cry, "i want you so bad."
“i know, my love, i know,” he says, kissing the running tears down your cheeks. Whimpering underneath him, he fucks into you like he’s craving to see you crumble.
“you’re so good, so perfect and wet, I just can’t help myself.”
He throws you on the bed, and enters you hungrily. You wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him closer.
“Look at me. I want you to look at me in the eyes, my love. You look so fuckin’ gorgeous with your legs spread.“
With each thrust, he drove deeper, filling you completely, you cry out as he hit that sweet spot inside you, he bites your neck while you’re crying against his chest.
“You’re so perfect, everything about you, I can’t get enough of this perfect pussy.”
“I want you. I want your cum inside me.”
his cock wildly moving inside your wet pussy, his dark eyes looking at your body with nothing but love, his hands tightly brushing against your waist.
"god, i'm gonna cum,"
You can't hold yourself any longer. you cum hard, your body shakes with pleasure, he spills himself inside you, filling you with his sweet cum.
He smiles at you, giving him the perfect view to watch your face as you fall apart over and over on his cock.

50 VAGUE ANGSTY + HURT/COMFORT DIALOGUE PROMPTS
42. "Tell me what I did wrong! What's wrong with me?!" + rise A Team 🥺
You keep requesting things that I know will hurt ur feelings!!!
TW: panic attack, derealization/dissociation
Waking up in the med bay had been less painful than this. He’d broken fourteen bones and fractured three more, been coughing up blood and some thick substance he was very sure was never supposed to be on the outside but he’d thought, ‘hey, we won’.
This didn’t feel like winning. This felt like standing on the other side of a very long tunnel and seeing the world from a sideways tilt.
He’d been allowed out of the med bay for a glorious two days– mostly to lay up on the couch instead of the stiff medical room— and missed somewhere that the world had actually ended. Because when Raph leaned over him to grab his glass of water on the table beside him, Leo flinched.
It wasn’t him, he decided. Because Leo had never once in his life feared anything from his big brother, not even when Raph had gone through his snapping phase. Because Raph was Raph and that meant the biggest warmest hugs you could imagine, and big wet watering eyes and crying over commercials with kittens that sneezed too hard. It couldn’t be him that saw Raph moving forward and thought of pink, slimy tendrils, and felt his airways closing with a sharp thrum of oh god and I’m going to die, because that didn’t make sense.
Raph froze, eyes wide. Leo fell further outside himself.
The other him made his hand move, he didn’t feel it move. The other him spoke.
“Oh, ha. Sorry, static must have shocked me.” From the blankets, yeah. That made sense. This other him that jumped at things at least had his wits, that was reassuring.
“Leo,” Raph said very slowly. Some hindbrain red alert crawled all the way up from his heart and right out his mouth, and into that other version of him that was staying very still.
“I didn’t— I didn’t mean to.”
Raph put his arm down just as slowly, leaned back like he could telegraph every moment. His eyes stayed wide and locked on to him. “Okay, that’s okay.”
“It wasn’t you,” the other him said, and Leo couldn’t feel his lips moving but he desperately wanted to be able to shut him up. “It wasn’t um— just. Jumpy. Pulled something funny, you know with the. The bandages.”
Shit, Leo thought. Stick to the script, pal.
“Right,” Raph said, without blinking. Like he was thinking something else.
“Don’t do that,” other him said. “Okay, the big brother voice thing. I don’t need it, let’s just. Watch the movie, right?”
He was suddenly aware of Donnie by his kneecaps, Mikey staring at him from the mound of pillows he’d made at Don’s legs. He needed this other him to shape up, acting classes were a must. He was flubbing big time, Leo did not flub.
Raph shifted again, molasses slow, and gave Donnie a look. His twins face twitched with a nod, and he summarily picked up Mikey, blanket and all and shuffled into his lab. Traitor, Leo thought vaguely. Pincer attack, coordinated front. He hated that. That was his and Don’s thing.
Stepping on my turf, he meant to say. Other Leo’s mouth didn’t move, so he was useless.
“Actually, Raph’s a little worried.”
Oh, Leo thought, oh no. Fear lanced through him again, in some distant way. He could see his fingers twitching and couldn’t make them stop. “Worried? About what. Can I help, big guy?”
Raph hummed. “Think you could, yeah. We haven’t talked about everything that happened, have we?”
Well, Mikey had made him talk a little, about why he thought it would be okay to choose himself without telling anyone else first. Hugged him as tightly as he could with Leo’s broken ribs for three solid hours until Leo’d given in and promised he’d be kinder to himself. Donnie had been furious at him for three straight days somewhere after he’d blearily woken up from his coma, but they hadn’t talked directly about why yet. Suddenly, the look he’d caught clicks.
He was still too outside himself to react the right way. Other Leo looked away and twisted the blanket in his hands.
Ever so slowly, he felt Raph’s warm hand land on his knee. He could see it, his big brother’s hand, green and normal. No spikes, no pink. He could breathe out— there was a rope somewhere there that guides him closer enough that he can flip his own hand around and squeeze.
“Nothing to talk about, bro bro,” Leo managed, but it was croaky and lacking all the usual fizz. Fizzless, him. The horror was nearly too much to think about.
The look Raph gave him was half a wince of apology, half tangled up exasperation. He didn’t like that there was guilt there. That didn’t fit. Raph hadn’t done a single thing wrong.
“Leo.”
He made himself swallow. “Raphala.”
Raph sighed. Flipped Leo’s hand over so he could stare down at the bandages crossing his palm. He’d burnt the inside of his fingers somehow, he couldn’t even say when it happened. Silly, really. He’d laughed when Don had told him. Come to think of it, Dee hadn’t really looked like he’d agreed with the joke then either.
He watched the way Raph traced his thumb across the white gauze, the way his face twisted and crashed down with mounting horror.
“I’m so sorry, Leo. You know I love you, right?”
Other Leo made a second appearance, making his hands go numb. “I— of course? I love you too, what does that—?”
Raph’s non bandaged eye blazed when he looked up at him, swimming in the dim movie light. “I hurt you, Leo. I took your trust and I hurt you with it. Raphie’s so sorry.”
That didn’t— Leo blinked rapidly. The world fell out of focus, clicked free of its puzzle piece board. Out into the ether. “Stop apologizing.”
“Leo—”
“No!” Other him said it sharp, loud. Too electric behind the words, he winced at himself and didn’t feel his face move. “You don’t— you don’t get to apologize to me. That doesn’t— what are you talking about Raph?”
Somehow his brother’s face only fell further, it made the panic in Leo’s chest sticky. “I said that wrong, I don’t—” It was so hard to think, why couldn’t he make himself think? “I’m not afraid of you! I’m not.” He wasn’t. Because it was Raph.
“It’s okay if you are, buddy. Raph understands—”
“I’m not!” Leo bit out, and blinked rapidly again as the world falls further out to sea. “I put you in danger, I jumped in and— I did something stupid, and you got brainwashed. Because I fucked up. Why aren’t you mad at me? Tell me what I did wrong!”
What’s wrong with me, he thought, vibrant and liquid like toxic sludge seeping down to his core.
He couldn’t even see right anymore, everything had gone shapes and colors. It wasn’t even Raph in front of him, it was something. It was nothing and—
“--breathe with me, okay? In. Out, that’s it. That’s perfect, Bug, keep doing that.”
The Bug snapped him together, pulls all of his strings forward. Raph hadn’t called him that since they were toddlers, when he and Donnie had started insisting being twins and Raph tried to play along. Bug and Boo, he’d said all proud. Donnie had hated it instantly and rebuked any attempt at being called something so sweet by biting. Leo’d tried to make it fit a little better, since Raph seemed to like it so much.
‘S it b’cause I bug you?’ Leo’d said, sad and puddling up but hiding it with a teasing smile he knew would make the hurting less loud.
Raph had smoothed his hand across his head and grinned. ‘It’s cause you’re my favorite bug. But it sounded like a good thing when Raph said it.
Leo forced in a breath, feels his hands become his hands and his toes firmly plant as his toes. “Sorry,” he managed. “Sorry, went. Um. Somewhere. Back.”
Raph’s big worried eye peered down at him, he let go of Leo’s hand with a firm squeeze. Leo shook his head, clearing out all the fuzz as much as he could.
“I need you to hear me, just for a second. You didn’t do anything wrong,” Raph tried, worry making his voice small. “Can you believe me on that one thing? You were brave, and you got us through it, and most importantly you got Leo through it. I’m not mad.”
Leo scoffed, staring down at the blanket instead. Raph carefully scrubs a hand across the top of Leo’s head, warm and calloused the way he knows.
“Raph wanted you safe. That’s all. And I hurt you, so it’s okay if you— if you need time.”
Leo snapped his eyes up, grabbing at Raph’s hand again even before he pulled away. “I don’t! I don’t need you to go anywhere, or leave or. Please don’t leave.”
Raph’s face gentled.
“Can we just,” Leo couldn’t look at him, he couldn’t. “Can we just stay here for a minute? Maybe talking can be later.” When it wasn’t him and other him preferably, so he could say things the right way.
“Okay.”
Raph settled back on the couch, slowly lifting his arm free and telegraphing the space underneath for Leo to decide. As if he needed to decide, the best place in the world was in Raph’s hugs. He’d always fit perfect there.
Raph smoothed his hand across Leo’s head with his thumb, back and forth. The warmth pulled him all the way back into himself, almost with a shudder. Leo squeezed his eyes shut and buried his snout further into Raph’s side. It made him brave. “I’m not scared of you. I’ve never been scared of you, big guy.”
Raph’s thumb paused. Smoothed back again. “It’s okay if you are. That was… pretty scary.”
Leo shook his head stubbornly. “Wasn’t you. I know my big brother anywhere. That wasn’t him.”
He pretended kindly not to hear the hitch in Raph’s breathing. The warm chuckle after is like lottery gold.
“Thanks, bug. I know you, too.”

Spin
“Again”
Spin
“Again
Spin
“Again”
You hit the ice just as aggressively as you did the time before that. You're finding it hard to breathe and everything aches.
“Again Lapin!”
You pump your legs, moving them fast and hard. You're mid-jump when you hear the shrieking of the arena buzzer. Thrown off, your footing is off and you fall to your knees.
You hear your coach scoff, moving to get off the ice. You get up, wincing at the sting in your knees, that’ll be a nasty bruise.
When you walk off the ice, Coach hands you your blade covers. You mentally prepare yourself for the lecture you’ll receive when you return to the locker room.
You feel a tight grip on your arm. Okay, looks like you’ll get your lecture right here.
“Lapin, If you get distracted by a buzzer, what makes you think you’ll be fine in an arena full of people? Have you learned nothing from your last performance?”
She asks you questions but doesn’t give you time to respond, she immediately cuts in. “And your jumps, how is it that you haven’t managed to master your jumps? You are well past the age to be scared of falling. Your hesitation will cost you this title.”
Silence falls over the both of you, Coach has her hands on her sides and just stares. You know what she's doing. She’s thinking of how you’ll be punished for this oh-so-horrible performance today.
“Tomorrow you will march yourself to the management office and ask for an extended time.”
Your eyes go wide, “Coach, they’ll never give me more time. And what about my professors? They’re already at their wits end with me being gone all the time.”
Coach’s eyes sharpen, “I’m sorry, have your priorities changed? Am I wasting your time Lapin? Cause if that’s the case then say so, and may we be free of this doomed partnership.”
You cower under her stare, “No, no of course not Coach, I’ll talk to management tomorrow and see what deal I can work up with my professors.”
Pleased with the conversation going her way, Coach smiles. “Good, I’ll see you soon.”
With that, she saunters off, reaching for her phone to call god knows who.
When you’re sure she’s out of eyesight you slump down onto the bench next to you. You close your eyes and take a minute to finally catch your breath. You bring your hand to your chest, hoping to alleviate some of the tightness and discomfort.
The bench shakes and you hear something hit the ground with a thud. You open one eye and close it again when you see who it is who’s disturbed your peace.
“How oh how will you ever convince management to give you any more practice time?”
You sigh, hoping that if you ignore the nuisance next to you, he’ll get the hint and leave you alone.
“They won’t even give the team extra time, let alone one person.”
You open your eyes and turn to look at the boy sitting next to you. “I can be very persuasive.”
James, who’s lacing up his skates, mumbles a quiet “Don’t I know it.”
You stand up and gather your things. “Who Knows James, win some games and maybe you’ll get the extra time you need.”
James pauses his movement, looking up at you with a deadly glare.
It’s a sore subject and you know it. After Peter Pettigrew, one of the university's star players decided to transfer, James and the rest of the team have been dethroned. They’ve known no peace since then and are grappling with everything to win this season.
James turns back to his laces. “Hey and maybe if you learn to stop being so skittish on the ice, you’ll land that jump for once Lapin.”
This is why you’ll never feel bad for being so hostile toward James. He’s a wolf in sheep's clothing and you lose your mind every day knowing that everybody has fallen for his golden boy act.
You throw your bag over your shoulder, swatting at the back of James' head on your way out of the arena.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re pacing back and forth in front of the management office. You’ve gone over every possible excuse that could convince them to give you more time. You will convince them, or Coach will have your head on a platter. You’ll butter up the sweet old lady who works the front desk, you’ll dazzle her, and she’ll sign whatever she needs to.
With one final pep talk, you walk into the office and freeze at the door.
Shit.
It’s not the sweet old lady.
Sitting at the front desk is Remus Lupin. ‘This is fine’ you try to convince yourself.
You saunter up to the desk “Good morning Remus, you look fantastic today, do anything different with your hair?”
Remus puts his book down, looking up with a sweet smile, “No, did the same thing I always do. How can I help you?”
You lean onto the counter and start messing with the pen jar. “You, my love, can sign off on my extra ice time.” you choose not to make eye contact, continuing to swivel the pens around the jar.
Remus sighs, dragging your name out, “You know I can’t approve any more time for you, the school won’t allow it.”
You stomp your foot out of habit, “ But Remus, I got all my professors to give me as many extensions as I need, really all I need is for you to say yes.”
Remus, always bursting your bubble, “It’s not about class love, It’s about your health. You know how the system works.”
You groan and bring your head down onto the counter. You knew this would be your biggest obstacle. All athletes have to adhere to certain rules. The university claims that it’s to protect the athlete's health but everyone knows it's so they don’t get backlash for overworking their student-athletes. You're allotted a certain amount of hours but anything over that has to be flagged and reported.
“Listen,” Your head shoots up, “I can maybe convince them to a lot you a bit more time, but you’ve got to go to your physical therapy sessions. Doc has to report when you don’t show you know.”
“Okay yes, fine, I pinky promise that I will see Doc, and stretch and stay off the ice for 30 minutes after eating, and-”
Remus cuts you off with a laugh, “Okay, okay I get it. I’ll talk to the board and see what I can do.”
You squeal, reaching over the counter to smack a kiss on Remus’s forehead. “You are a lifesaver Remus Lupin.”
Remus just shakes his head, “Yeah yeah, whatever, get out of here.”
You happily skip out of the office, so happy, that not even running into James Potter in his gear could upset you.
You offer a simple “James” and go to walk past him.
“Woah, what's got you all happy?”
You give him a sly smile, “Oh nothing, I’m just having a lovely morning.”
James furrows his brows at you, “Okayyy. Was Rem in the office?”
You nod at him, “Yes, my sweet, beautiful, lovely Remus is in there. How he’s friends with the lot of you, I’ll never understand.”
James is insulted but is weirded out more than anything.
Not caring to interact any further you wave goodbye.
James, still confused, continues into the office.
You don’t get far down the before James is yelling your name down the hallway. You roll your eyes, continuing on your way. You hear thumping and there’s a yank on your wrist.
You yelp out of surprise. James without a word is dragging you back towards the office. You both enter and Remus is shaking his head.
You rip your wrist out of James' grip, “I’d like that back thank you.”
You smile at Remus, “Hi love, so good to see you again.”
“Likewise.”
James snaps his fingers, “Quit it you two, Remus just told me you’re getting more time on the ice.”
“Why yes I am. I told you James, do better at your sport and good things come your way.”
“Guys please don’t start. I don’t want to have to kick you out again,” Remus says.
James disregards your insult, “You can’t get more time, you’re already maxed out on hours, they’ll never approve it.”
You shake your head in faux symphony “Oh James, I told you I was very persuasive.”
This seems to bring his attention back to his friend. “You” he points a finger aggressively toward Remus’s direction, “How could you say yes? You're the iron wall, no one shakes you down.”
Remus gives a weak shrug, “Okay, I wasn’t shaken down, we made a deal”
James rolls his eyes, “Oh yeah, and what was that?”
“She’ll see Doc, every appointment, she has to go.”
James looks confused. “How is that a deal? It's protocol.”
“Wellll” Remus drags.
The look on James’ face darkens. His attention is on you now. “You don’t see the Doc?”
You try not to be intimidated by his glare. “I just don’t see the point of seeing him after every practice. I mean come on, my body is my instrument, of course, I know how to take care of it.”
Whatever lightness was in the air, is gone now. James is genuinely upset and you can’t wrap your head around why.
“Are you kidding me, so what, you’ve just been skipping out on all your appointments?”
All you can do is shrug. Remus, who can sense the shift in the atmosphere, tries to intervene. “Look, I don’t even know if it’s a guarantee, I still have to ask the board.”
Your heart drops. “No. I need the time. You said you’d get me the time.”
Remus, who has unfortunately been caught in both James and your fury, doesn't know how to turn this conversation around.
“And what about your work, do you even go to class anymore?”
“I’m doing great in all my classes.”
“That doesn't answer whether you're going.”
“What does it matter? Virtual or not, It’s only until after the competition.”
James takes his glasses off and rubs at his forehead like he’s trying to ward off an oncoming headache. “So, just like that, you get the time, extensions on school work, and a pass from all the appointments you missed with Doc.”
You sigh, “I don’t get it James, are you jealous, is that what it is?”
This strikes a nerve in James. “You think that's what this is about?”
“Well” you throw your hands up, “what else could be?”
James puts his glasses back on and steps up to you, “You know what, if you want to overwork yourself and fuck up any chance you get at the actual competition, go ahead, seems like everyone is right behind you.” with that, James storms out the office.
Remus walks out from behind the desk and gives a light squeeze to your shoulder, “I don’t understand why you two work each other up so much.”
“He’s wrong,” you say quietly. Remus listens. “I’m better than I’ve ever been. I need this Remus, I need to win this. I need to show everyone that I can do it.”
Remus, with a sad look in his eyes, pulls you in for a hug. “Everyone knows you can, you’re amazing.”
You sigh and pull away. “It doesn’t matter how good I am, all everyone sees now is the girl who messed up last year. All my hard work was reduced to one stupid mistake. I have to get it right this time.”
Remus just sighs, he’s seen this version of you before, and he doesn’t like where it’s going.
He grabs you by the shoulders, “Promise that you’ll go to Doc.”
“Promise that you’ll get me my time.”
He sticks out his pinky, encouraging you to lock yours with his. You do.
“Thank Rem”
“Don’t make me regret love.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To everyone's surprise, the board does accept your request for additional time. You're ecstatic. Coach won’t show it but you know she’s semi-impressed.
With the new time, the ending of your practice marked the beginning of the kid's ice class. Every time you did any sort of jump or spin you could hear a dozen little aws and wows.
You felt fantastic, Coach was in a decent mood, and practice was long but the scary women had minimal feedback. For the first time in a long time, you felt on top of the world.
“Okay, that’s enough for today.”
You walk off the ice, putting your guards on. Coach gives you final pointers and is out of the building before you can say bye.
You sat on the bench, undoing the laces of your skates when a group of the girls from before comes up to you. They flutter around you, asking all sorts of questions and giving endless praises. You’d be lying if you said that you didn’t feel your heart swell with pride and joy.
You're talking about costumes when you hear your name being called. Standing towards the entryway are Doc and James.
You knew this day was going to well, you had forgotten that today was your scheduled appointment with Doc. As for James, every time you see him your day is ruined. The two of you hadn’t spoken since the whole incident in the office. Remus had tried to get the both of you to make amends but neither of you had the intention of doing so.
You put your slipper on and make your way over to pair.
“Hey remember me? Long time no see.” You know Doc is trying to be silly but your heart beating faster at the mere thought of having to get checked up.
The bespectacled figure clears his throat. “Haven't you heard Doc, our ice princess got more ice time so she's been pretty busy.”
You cross your arms. Reaching a hand to rest on your sternum, feeling a slight tug at every breath you take.
Doc disregards James petty comment, immediately picking up on your discomfort. “You okay?”
James looks puzzled, glancing back and forth between the two of you, looking for whatever he missed.
You shrug. “Yeah, it's just, well..you know.” Doc just nods.
“Know what?” James blurts out. From the look on his face, you can tell that he didn't mean to say that out loud.
You frown, “It’s nothing.”
“It’s clearly something.”
“Okay, well it’s none of your business is it.”
“OKAY,” Doc yells, cutting both of you off. “James I’ll do what we talk about, now move along.”
James lingers for a bit before he finally walks off.
“Now you” Doc starts, “Shall come with me.”
You know that there isn’t any way to avoid this and follow right behind him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doc makes small talk throughout your checkup. You give replies, trying your best not to come off like you don’t want to be there.
You’re in the middle of doing a stretch when Doc says “So, are we going to talk about the elephant in the room?”
You lay on your back and bring a knee up to your chest, staring up at the ceiling. “Do we have to?”
Doc hums, “I think we should.”
You bring your leg down and lift the other to your chest “Okay, well then I guess.”
Doc stands at your side and offers a hand to bring you up from the ground. You sit on the ground and Doc sits in front of you. “I need you to know that what I did, was not only part of my job as your doctor but as someone who cares deeply for you lot.”
You fidget with your fingers as Doc continues. “And I had to report the appointments that you were missing. I know you guys like to joke around with me but I am a healthcare provider before anything else and you can loathe me all you want but know my actions are never meant to harm you.”
Ugh, you feel like such an asshole now. “I don’t hate you Doc, I know you're just doing your job. I think-” you pause, trying to gather your thoughts, “I think in my head If I didn’t do my checkups, there wouldn’t be anyone to tell me that something could potentially be wrong.”
Doc nods, and you continue “I should’ve listened to you back then, with or without the jump I would've lost anyway.” You say with a sad smile. “This time has to be different, I have to land that jump, I have to win this one.”
Doc gives you an odd look. “I’ll be watching you like a hawk, you need to take care of yourself. I won’t watch you hurt yourself for this again, will you hate me then?”
You feel your body stiffen, you need this, so you think you might.
“I mean it when I say this one is mine this year.” you have never been more serious in your life.
“Oh trust me, I believe you.”
It doesn’t have to be said, but you think that you and Doc might be a bit further apart than before.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You’re counting down the weeks. The competition is getting closer with each day that passes. You’ve spent more time at the arena over the past couple of weeks than you have in your dorm.
Practice isn’t until later today, but you ambushed Remus when he was walking into the rink this morning.
Now here you are, skating freely in the dimly lit rink. Remus gets horrible migraines and chooses to leave the lights off for as long as he can.
You glide across the rink, twisting and turning whenever you please. Some time has passed when you come to a stop. All you can hear is the sound of your labored breath. You do your breathing techniques, trying your best to regulate your heartbeat.
Your nerves spike back up when you see James skating towards you and feel speed.
He halts right in front of you. “Are you okay?”
All you can do is nod, not being able to form words quite yet. James doesn’t say anything else for a while. He watches and waits as you catch your breath.
When you seem to have calmed down he jumps to question you. “What on earth was that?”
You shrug, “I just got a bit winded I guess.” He blinks at you, “That's not the first time it happened though.”
James, always so annoyingly inquisitive.
“I’m fine James, where the hell did you come from anyway? The rink isn’t open yet.”
You both kick into a slow skate around the rink. “That's rich, considering you’re here too. Also, you forget that Remus is one of my best friends.”
“How could I forget, you remind me every time I interact with him.”
“Well, that's because I can’t seem to understand what hold you’ve got over him. He folds instantly when it comes to you. You know I had to beg him for 20 minutes to let me in.”
You give a triumphant smile, “Remus and I have a bond that exceeds any and all relationship types, I wouldn’t expect you to understand.”
James scowls, ‘Stop talking about your special bond with Remus.”
“Jealous?”
“No!” James responded a bit too quickly. “More like deeply disturbed.”
“Not as disturbing as you and Sirius,” you say, skating a bit faster to get ahead of him.
“Hey! Don’t bring Sirius into this.”
You tsk, “So quick to defend his honor. Tell him I’m still waiting on our date by the way.”
“Oh please, Sirius goes on dates with anything that moves so don’t hold your breath.” Whatever honor and respect James had for his best friend earlier is out the window.
You hum, not offering him a real response. James, changing the subject, “Was that a routine earlier?”
“A routine with no music?” you ask sarcastically.
James rolls his eyes, “I'm just asking because it looked familiar.”
Familiar? Why would it look familiar?
“Spend your days off watching figure skating routines?” you say as you skate backward in front of him.
He shakes his head, “No, just yours.” he doubles down quickly, “Well cause, we skate at the same rink and all that.”
It’s too late, what he’s said has already gone to your head. You bring a hand to your heart mockingly, “The James Potter, Hockey legend, watches my routines. What an honor.”
James makes a face at you, “Oh whatever, forget I said anything.”
You continue “I can’t believe I am skating with James Potter.” you say as you skate around him.
James can’t help but laugh. “Okay quit it you’re gonna make me dizzy. God knows how you spin the way you do without throwing up.”
You continue at his side. “Years and years of practice.”
“So, the routine, what's it from?”
You let out a long sigh, “It was bits and pieces from my finals routine last year.”
James says a quiet ‘oh’
“Mhm” is all you can offer back.
“I was there, you know?” James fidgets with his glasses. “Well, I mean, me and the whole team—half of the university, really.”
This shocks you. You knew a lot of peers and locals from your university town showed overwhelming support, but for some reason, knowing James was there makes you…happy?
“Well, you picked the worst one to turn up to.” You try to make a light-hearted joke, but it doesn’t work.
James comes to a stop on the ice. You stop with him. “You really scared everyone.”
You scoff, “More like disappointed everyone.”
“No” James replies sharply, “I can assure you that no one in that arena was disappointed and you’ve got to stop thinking that.”
You feel an argument brewing. “And what about you James? What did you feel? Please share with the gallery.”
“I-”  he pauses for a second. “I was scared too, and then I was angry.”
“Angry?”
He nods, “Angry. I was angry at you. I was angry that you’d attempt to do something so-”
He cuts himself off, trying to restrain himself.
“Something so what James? Go on say it” You egg him on.
He yanks his glasses off his face, a habit he has when he’s frustrated. “Fine! Something so stupid. I couldn’t, for the life of me wrap my head around why you would purposely do something so stupid.” James doesn’t stop there. “I couldn’t understand why you would disregard Doc's orders. I was angry that you had such little regard for yourself and your body.” James throws his hands up,” and all for what?”
You clench your fist tight at your side. You feel the anger flare up inside you. “All for what?” you laugh bitterly. “Is that how you see what I do?”
James doesn’t respond. His silence only angers you more. “I did what I thought was necessary okay? I worked too hard all last year to just give it up. I made a mistake, I understand that, and I have spent every moment since then trying to make it up.”
You inch closer towards James, “Do you know how humiliating it is to have all my hard work be reduced down to one single mistake? I am perfect my whole career but the second I have one slip-up I'm stripped of all my wins, all my medals. Everything I’ve worked for, completely disregarded.”
James stares at you with wide eyes. “Is this what this is about? About ruining your perfect reign? Do you know how insane that sounds?”
You groan, “I could hold my tongue hearing this from anyone else, but you of all people James, Seriously? You are such a hypocrite.”
James glares at you. “And what exactly are you alluding to?”
“You,” you say, shoving a finger in his chest, “are a hypocrite. You think I don’t see what you’ve been doing. Ever since Pete left you have been overcompensating, trying to fill a role all by yourself. The late night and early morning practices. Taking on extra responsibility on the ice. Spreading yourself thin to make it to nationals.
“That’s different.”
You laugh “How on earth is different James?” you can't believe this guy.
“It’s different because It’s temporary until we find someone else. It’s different because I take care of myself. It’s different because it’s a whole team of us that care about each other. Yeah, I'm stepping up right now but I can always step back and rely on the guys if I need to. You, however, have..well you just don’t..” he sighs, “you’re alone.”
You back up from him, “You’re unbelievable.” you start skating to exit the rink. You hear James call after you. “Wait, I didn’t mean it like that.”
“Whatever James, just leave me alone.”
“Would you just let me explain?” he desperately calls out. You swivel around the ice quickly, turning to face him. You have a snarky remark to give but it's out the window when James fully runs into you. Before both of you can catch yourselves, you both fall onto the ice.
You yelp out in pain when James falls right onto your foot. He’s off of you quickly. “Holy shit are you okay?”
You don’t answer, attempting to stand up. When you put pressure on your right foot, a sharp pain shoots through your ankle. James must see the pain in your face, “I'm so sorry I didn’t think you were going to stop. Let me help you back.”
You shake him off, “No it’s fine, I’m fine.” you go to kick off the ice and the pain brings you to your knees. James reaches for you but you push his hands away.
No no no, this can’t be happening. You feel your heart start to pick up. You can barely hear James over the ringing in your ear. You stand up one more time, pushing off with your left leg this time. You make it somewhere but when you push off your right leg out of habit you double over in pain.
You hear James grimace from behind you. “Alright, that's enough.” James wraps your arm over his shoulder and takes most of your weight. You can’t deny him, having no other way to get off the ice. He glides the both of you to the exit. The second your feet reach the matted floors you push away from him and limp to the nearest bench. You're pulling and tugging at your laces aggressively. When your skate is loose enough you yank your foot out, crying out in pain. You roll your sock down both you and James gasp. You throw the skate that’s in your hand.
You bring your hands to your eyes, feeling that annoying sting. “Fuck!” This is not happening. You did not just ruin your chances for this year because of one little accident.
“I have to get Remus.” you grip James' wrist stopping him in his tracks. “Absolutely not!”
James tries to pull his wrist from you but you bring your other hand to grab at it. “Don’t say anything, please. I promise I’m fine.” James looks at you bewildered, “Are you insane? Your ankle is purple.”
“I bruise easily. I promise it's fine.”
“Walk on it.”
What. “What?”
James shrugs, “Walk on it. Walk from here to those bleachers.”
You go stand up, his eyes never leaving you. You take your first step and feel the same sharp pain you flinch but take your next step. You take step after step, pushing through the blinding pain. You make it to the bleachers and turn to face James. “See, it’s fine.”
James stares at you in disbelief. He walks up to you “You are unbelievable.” He grits out.
James leaves without saying anything else. Leaving you in the dark arena.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s been three days. You managed to convince Coach to give you time off, telling her that you had some projects to catch up on. Pleased with your recent performance, she reluctantly granted you some free time. No practice meant no Doc visits. Three days and radio silence from James. You were so sure that he would've said something to someone by now but you aren't called in for any meeting or evaluations.
Three days later and your ankle is still purple and throbbing. You’ve taken way too many painkillers for it to be safe but it’s your first day back and you have to act like you feel fine.
You walk into the building. You put on a smile and are prepared to give the best performance of your lifetime. Coach is already standing by the ice. You go towards the locker rooms but you stop when she yells your name.
She looks annoyed when you walk up to her. “Hey Coach”
She puts her phone down. “Look, they are cutting into your time today because they have to get the ice ready for the game tonight. I’m going to need you to do a quick warm-up and get right into running the routine. Jumps and all.”
You nod, “Yes ma’am.”
You put your bag down on the bench and start getting ready. You’re lacing up your skates when you hear a chorus of laughter. You lift your head to see James, Remus, and Sirius all chit-chatting while exiting the office hallway. Sirius catches your eye and you’re too slow to look away. He’s caught you.
“Lapin!”
Oh god.
You hear them make their way over.
“Where have you been? We haven’t seen you in ages.”
You yank tightly at your laces and wrap them around your ankle. “Oh don’t exaggerate. It was only three days.”
Sirius scoffs, slouching down onto the bench next to you. “Yeah, that’s forever for you. I feel like lately you’ve been here every day.” you roll your eyes at him.
“I had schoolwork to catch up on.”
Remus hums, “Look at you. Working hard.”
You lean back on the bench. “What can I say? Anyway, I’m back. Try not to stare too hard Sirius.”
Sirius' shoulder bumps you. “Hey, what about Remus?”
You stand up, “You my darling.” pointing a finger at Remus. “Can stare as long and hard as you’d like to.”
There is a slight tinge of pink on Remus’s face but he laughs it off. “Quit you two.”
Your attention turns to James clearing his throat. This whole time he hadn’t said anything, just staring at you, analyzing your every move.
The two of you stare at each other, tension thick in the air. He drags his eyes slowly down your body. Any other person would think he has no shame but you know it’s nothing like that. You know exactly what he’s looking for. James' eyes linger on your ankle, mostly hidden by your skates.
James tilts his head, “Hmm”
Sirius and Remus, having no idea what's going on, simply stand there.
“Hmm? That’s all you're gonna say?”
Jamea shrugs. “What else is there to say? Everythings fine.”
For the past three days you’ve done nothing but worry about James snitching on you. It’s brought you nothing but stress and anxiety. Why hasn’t he said anything?
You open your mouth to say something. “Yeah sure everythi-”
“Lapin! On the ice. Now!”
James continues staring at you. If he thinks you’re going to crack, he’s going to be waiting for the rest of the day.
You walk away with as much ease and poise as you can.
The pain in your foot isn’t gone. You’ve got a purple bump to prove it but you’ve taken enough pain meds to hold off some of the pain for now. You skate around the ice, warming up. Every time you kick off you feel the twinging pain but do your best to ignore it. Coach doesn’t let you warm up for long.
“Lapin, run the routine.”
You’re heart drops, you didn’t think she’d get straight into it but she must want to take advantage of the time you had on the ice.
You take a deep breath, already feeling the normal burning sensation in your lungs. You get into position. You steady yourself into your starting pose. You lock eyes with James. They’re all leaning onto barriers. Neither of you breaks eye contact. Finally, you hear the starting notes of your music and begin. You kick off beautifully, moving across the rink in a matter of seconds. You glide elegantly across the ice. The music begins to swell, the first jump is coming up. You breathe in, brace yourself, and jump. You spin, almost landing perfectly. There is a bit of wobble but nothing you can't make up in the next couple of jumps. You continue your program. You jump again. Spinning and landing. This one is perfect, no wobble. You keep moving, swelling with pride. You can’t see anyone but the lack of yelling lets you know that Coach is somewhat satisfied with the jumps. You push on, beginning to feel the pain in your foot. You ignore it as best you can. It’s when you're landing your third jump that the pain shoots up through your ankle. It leaves you breathless for a second but you compose yourself. You skate, you skate and skate and skate until you hear yelling over the music.
“Get her off the ice right now!”
You bring yourself to a stop. You look over to the commotion and see the coach with Doc. Standing right next to both of them is James.
You stay on the ice, trying to catch your breath.
It’s Coach's turn to yell at you. “Lapin, come here right this instance.”
Your heart continues beating quickly. You make your way over and when you're at the exit, Coach is pulling you by the arm, heading straight for the benches.
“Sit.”
You look between her and Doc, you can’t even bear to look at James.
“What on Earth is going on?!”
“Take your skates off!”
“Excuse me?”
“Skates. Off. Now.”
You reach to slowly start untying your skates. It doesn’t matter how slow you move. They all sit and wait.
Once they’re both off Doc kneels and reaches for your ankles immediately.
“Woah what the hell are you doing?”
“Which one James?”
Your head snaps towards James. You’re caught, you know it, but if James says something now you’ll hate him for the rest of your life.
James must see it in your face. He’s silent for a second.
“Which one is James? I'm not going to ask again.”
James looks away and answers. “The right one.”
Without another second wasted, Doc is yanking your sock down, revealing a swollen purple ankle. Both Doc and Coach gasp.
“Lapin, what the hell were you thinking?”
You scramble to save this. “It’s not as bad as it looks! I promise!”
You look between Coach and Doc and all you see is pure disappointment. Coach runs a hand through her hair.
“Why? Why are you so adamant about hurting yourself? Do you not realize that you could mess this up beyond repair. What will you do then?”
Your eyes start to sting and you feel them watering up. “I didn’t mean to. It was a stupid accident.”
“Well, that’s exactly my point. You are a star athlete. What are you doing having stupid accidents? You are meant to be taking care of yourself.”
You feel the tears begin to fall. “Oh, now you care? Where was this lecture when you let me skate last year? Or how about all the times I skipped my appointments? How many appointments did you let go unattended? How many times did you look the other way?”
You stare at your coach in anger and she looks right back at you with a look you can’t place.
Doc cuts in. “We need to get it checked out.” You go to stand up and Doc tries to help you immediately. “You really shouldn’t be walking on it.”
“I’ve been doing it just fine.”
Doc shakes his head and reaches to help again. “I mean it. I don’t want you walking on it. James can you come hel-”
You cut him off immediately. “Absolutely not. I said I’m fine. I can walk by myself.”
Realizing that he can’t stop you, Doc lets you start making your way to his office. James follows behind immediately, calling you names. You ignore him but he won’t stop. He grabs your arm. You hear him quietly beg “Please, can you just listen.”
You yank your arm out of his grasp. “I never want to hear from you again, James Potter. I hate you.” you spit out venomously. James displays a clear look of hurt. You leave him there, making your way down the hall alone.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a thorough investigation, Doc diagnoses you with a bad sprain. It would have been fine if you had sought medical help immediately, or so he says. You don’t speak if you don’t have to, only offering quiet yes’s and no’s.
Doc is finishing up when you do finally speak a full sentence. “When am I cleared to skate again?”
Doc sighs, like who knew the question was coming. “Well, that’ll be up to you.”
He moves around the room, gathering things for your kit while speaking. “You wanna get better fast, you’re gonna have to take care of that ankle.” he walks over, handing you the kit and paperwork. “That means no agitating it, no skating, and definitely no competition.”
You knew this was coming but hearing it breaks your heart. You feel your eyes start to water again.
“Look,” Doc starts. “I'm really sorry. I knew how much this meant to you.” His words go in one ear and out the other. You silently stand up and grab all your things. You can’t bear to be in this rink anymore. You reach for the newly prescribed crutches and adjust yourself. Doc watches silently. You whisper a quiet thank you and goodbye. You make your way out of the building, trying your best to ignore all the stares. The rink, now busy with people waiting for the upcoming game.
Everyone pushes to get in when you want nothing more than to get out. Every look you receive is filled with pity that you don’t want. You finally make it out, trekking through the parking lot to get to your car. Once you're in you turn it on and drive in silence. When you're in your dorm you head straight to bed. Holding onto one last hope that all of this is just a dream.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You know you shouldn’t be here. Well, technically nothing is stopping you from being here. But with Coach currently giving you the cold shoulder, Doc banning you from skating, and James on your hate list, Coming to the rink might not be the smartest of ideas.
That is why you are here right now, at night. You’ve been out for over a week and feel like you’ve been going stir-crazy in your room. Technically the rink is closed. It has been for the past three hours. However, you know Burnie, the maintenance man, doesn’t leave until a while after.
You’re shaking in the cold when you see him walk out the front, going to lock it. He smiles when he sees you. You can't help but smile back. “Hey Burnie.”
“Hey sweetheart” He greets you with just as much enthusiasm as always. “Whatcha doing here?”
“I forgot a couple of things in the locker room. Thought it might be time I come and get it.”
He eyes you suspiciously. You can’t help but laugh. “Burnie I promise I’m just here for some things. Look, no bag, no skates,” you say as you spin in a circle for him.
He reaches to steady you. “Woah okay now. Be careful on that foot.” he sighs. “Alright sweetheart, I'm gonna trust you on this, run in and grab your things and I’ll wait for you right here.”
“What, Burnie no. I'm not gonna make you wait out here in the cold. Plus you shouldn’t have to stay a second later. I already feel bad keeping you right now.”
Burnie’s still wavering. You sigh. “Look Burnie, I’m in a boot and I don’t know if you know this but these are a pain to take off. Both literally and physically. I just need to grab my things but I don’t want you waiting out here on me when you could be halfway home.”
“Fine. You’ve convinced me. Don’t let me find out that you were skating or we're gonna have some problems, sweetheart.”
You giggle pointing at your boot. “Burnie, I already told you I can’t.”
He waves a hand, walking away. “Knowing you? You’d find a way. There are keys in Remus's desk. Lock the front door when you're done.”
“Sir yes Sir.”
You make your way into the lockers, finding your bag of things that you always leave here. You grab it and walk out to the rink. You slump down onto the bench. You start rummaging through your bag. You smile as you find all sorts of knick-knacks.
You pull out what you were looking for, your old skates. You smile fondly as you remember the skating you did in them. Your happiness morphed into sadness when remembering the people who bought you the skates. You hadn’t seen your parents since you moved out to college. Your skating was too mediocre for them to fly out and watch. You remember every single time they turned down your invitations, telling you it would be “A waste of time”.
How could that be? You had everyone telling you you’re the best skater they’ve seen in ages. You have a world champion for a coach. You have so many people coming out to watch you. How can you have all of that and it still not be enough to make your parents see you?
This is why you had to be fantastic. You were supposed to be perfect this year and the last and you ruined it. You still hadn’t told your parents about your injury. You could still hear your mother on the phone from last year. The disappointment, the lack of worry for her child, and worst of all, her deadpan voice muttering into the phone, “What did we expect, knowing you.”
You’re squeezing the skates tightly, you feel your breath pick up. You pinch your eyes shut. Nonono this cannot be happening. You know this feeling all too well. You put your hands over your ears and bring your head down. You feel the familiar tightness in your chest. You try to breathe in and out but your airways feel constricted. You sit up and start rummaging through your bag looking for an inhaler. You find one and pull it out, panicking more when you realize that it’s out of pumps. You can feel your heartbeat in your ears. Hearing the heavy thump over and over again. You get up. You know you have one in your car, you just have to make it out there.
You start walking, trying your best to slow down your breathing. You can start to see the light coming from the front when you hear someone unlocking the door. You walk around the corner, fully expecting to see Burnie who’s come back to kick you out. You freeze when the person turns around.
You and James both stop in your places both gasping in shock.
“Jesus Christ you scared the shit out of me,” he says with a hand over his heart.
You don’t have time for James, so you walk right past him. James takes your silence as an insult.
“Are you still ignoring me?” you don’t answer, you fumble to get the keys out of your pocket. Reaching to unlock the door. When you do, you book it out to the parking lot. You can hear James following you.
“Seriously, you don’t show up for a week and then I find you here in the middle of the night. What were you doing anyways?” he continues behind you. James' tone changes, seeming to land on the only possible explanation. “You were skating weren’t you?” you get your car keys out of your pocket and start clicking on the unlock button over and over again.
“God” he scoffs, “You’re insane. That has to be the only explanation.” whatever else James says you can’t hear. The pain in your chest is unbearable and you start to cough at the lack of air in your lungs. The cold makes every sharp inhale burn. You finally make it to your car and swing the back door open. You jump in, yanking your bag out from under the seat. You dig through it and pull your inhaler out. You bring it to your mouth and inhale instantly.
You sit up, breathing in. Your eyes are closed but you can hear James' shoes scuff to a stop right outside your open door. You stay like this for a while. You finally feel your heart start to slow and the burning in your chest is subsiding. You open your eyes and see James staring back at you with wide eyes.
“Holy shit you have asthma?”
His complete 180 in emotions gives you whiplash.
“Yes you dickhead, I have asthma.”
James completely disregards the insult. “You had asthma this whole time. That's what Doc was asking about right? Or that time on the ice? When you get winded?”
You just nod.
“Yeah, you’re definitely insane.”  you lean forward to smack his arm. “Quit calling me crazy!”
James rests a hand on the top of the car, leaning in, getting a better look at you in the back seat.
“I’m not calling you crazy. I’m calling you insane.”
You cross your arms. “So what, I have asthma. Plenty of athletes have asthma,” you say, looking up at him.
James runs a hand through his hair. “That isn’t the point. I just wish- If you could just-” Without another word he’s getting into the backseat, pushing you over to make room for him.
James clears his throat. “Listen, I’m going to say something and I need you to listen.”
Whatever you're about to say, James doesn’t let you. “Promise. Promise you won’t say anything until I’m finished talking.”  You stare down at James' hand, pinky extended, waiting for yours.
You wrap your pinky around his. He drops his hand but keeps his finger interlocked with yours. You don’t pull away.
“I think you should take a break from skating.”
You roll your eyes. You push away from James but his pinky tightens around yours.
“Wait! You promised you’d listen.”
He’s got a desperate look on his face. “I watch you.”
“James what?”
“Okay no, but yes.” He clarifies. “God I’m really bad at this. What I want to say is that I notice you okay? The second you started skating here I noticed you.”
“You are frustratingly good on the ice. You’ve gotten title after title and it's got everything to do with you” James looks down, fidgeting with your joint pinkies. Ears red. “But ever since your incident last year you’ve gotten so…” he trails off looking for the right word. “Aggressive”
“You’ve gotten so aggressive with your technique, on the ice, and with yourself. There’s something different about you. Everyone thinks it's a newfound determination but I can see it in your eyes, it’s something else. You skate with no regard for your body. What happens when you push it too far? What happens when you force yourself so hard that your body gives up on you? What will you do then?”
The silence is heavy over you both. You look at James and he looks back at you with so much emotion, searching for an answer.
You let out a shaky breath. “What am I if I can’t skate? Can you tell me, James?”
He stumbles over his words, clearly thrown off by your question. He comes up blank.
“Exactly. Skating is all I have, it’s all I am.”
James shakes his head. “No, that isn’t true.”
You let out an exasperated laugh. “Do you think I’d be here right now if it weren’t for my skating? I’m here because it’s what I'm good at. I have so many people betting on me, so many expectations to uphold, so many people to prove that I’m worth it.”
James leans in closer and speaks gently. “Why do you think that you aren’t already the best? Why is it so hard to believe that you are amazing at what you do?”
His gentle tone does little to comfort you. He doesn’t get it. “If I’m so great how come my parents won’t come to see me?” you yell, your tone coming off harsher than you had intended.
You recognize the emotion behind James' stare, it’s pity and you hate it.
You can’t bear to look at him, embarrassed by your outburst.
“Hey,” you keep your gaze towards your lap.
“Hey, look at me.” you feel his hand come under your chin as he lifts your face to meet his eyes.
He unlatches his pinky from yours and brings his hand up to hold your face.
“Is that what it is, you feel like you’ve got a crowd to appeal to? Well, guess what? You don’t owe anyone anything. You skate because you love it not because you feel the need to meet intangible expectations. If your parents can’t see how good you are then that's on them, you don’t need them.”
You groan and reach for his wrist, pulling his hand away from your face. “That's easy for you to say.”
James furrows his brows at that, “What’s that supposed to mean.”
“You have your parents here offering you endless support. No offense, but you could sit out an entire game and they’d still whoop and holler about how proud they are of you. You have a team that worships the ground you walk on. You have Remus and Sirius. What do I have? Who do I have? Coach?” You raise a hand to wipe away your tears but it’s no use. “I’m a thousand miles away from everything and everyone that I love. Being good, no, being fucking fantastic is the only way to get their attention. So if that’s what I need to be then so be it.”
You let out one shaky breath and it all breaks loose. You bury your head in your hands, trying to muffle whatever mess you look like from James. After a short moment of sobbing into your hands, you feel hands pull at your arms. Before you know it, James is pulling you into a warm embrace.
The angle is a bit awkward, considering the size of your backseat but he still manages to get his arms wrapped around you. Your head lands on his chest, ear pressed against it. You stiffen at first but slowly wrap your arms around him. You both sit in silence. He gently runs a hand up and down your back, while the other rests on the back of your head, holding it. You listen to the beat of his heart, which moves rapidly. You can’t help but smile slightly. Despite being the one to make a bold gesture, he’s the nervous one.
“You aren’t as alone as you think.”
“What?” You go to lift your head but James pushes it back onto his chest. Heart beating quicker.
“You're Not alone. You have Sirius and Remus, just as much as I do if not more. They adore you a little too much. And whether you believe it or not you have Doc and just about everyone else who you cross paths with in the rink.”
He clears his throat for the next one. “And you have me.”
It’s said so quickly you almost miss it. You’re sure you would’ve if you weren’t so close to him.
You go to lift your head again but he pushes it back down. You groan. “James.”
He doesn’t respond. You go to move but he holds you in place again. “James Potter, let me look at you.”
He doesn’t budge, “I’d rather you didn’t”
“James, if you don’t let me move, so help me god.”
Your tone seems to do it. His hand slips from where it rested on your head. Once you get a good look at him, you almost laugh at the sight in front of you. James Potter, Red in the face, with a look of embarrassment so bad, he could die. He looks everywhere but at you. Eyes darting around the car.
“James”
“Yes?”
“Look at me.”
He does for a second and then looks away.
“James,” you say sternly.
“Yes?” He says picking at the seats.
Without putting much thought into it you smack both hands on his face, forcing him to look at you. You seemed to surprise him more than yourself. James stares at you with wide eyes. You’d done it without thinking and how you have no course of action.
You both blink at each other.
“What was it that you said just now?”
He doesn’t turn away this time. That's progress. “What were we talking about?” he says with a dazy voice. You look at him expectantly. James, who realizes he has nowhere to go, blurts it out.
“I said that you have me. There. Happy?” he doesn't stop there. “I said you have me because you do. All the time, every day I'm thinking about you, which is crazy considering how much you berate me. But that must be it. I must be crazy because I love it all the same. I care about you, even though half the time you make me want to slam my head into a locker, I care. So, yes, you have me.”
Through your hands, you feel the heat of his face. Despite the strong blush and red ears, James looks at you so earnestly that you can’t help what comes next.
Hands still on his face you pull him forward into a kiss. He freezes and you pull away. Just for a split moment, you worry that you made a mistake. But before you know it James surges forward, reconnecting your lips. Whatever hesitation there was before, is gone now.
His lips move against yours slowly, tentatively, exploring. You feel a finger trace the line of your jaw. Then the hand slips behind your head, bringing you closer. The sweet kiss now deepened with the hunger shared between you both. You raise your arms to wrap around his neck. You feel like you can’t breathe but you don’t stop.
With his newfound confidence, James moves forward. Your back hits the seat and James hovers over you now. He moves to lay himself over you. You feel his hand running up and down your side. You gasp into the kiss when a cold hand slips under your shirt, resting on your bare waist. James groans at the feeling of your bare skin, squeezing your side. You can feel your heartbeat in your ears. You don’t want to stop, ever. But the more James runs his hands over you and kisses you with an insatiable passion, the less you can breathe.
You ignore it at first, but the aching in your chest only gets stronger. You feel like you’re drowning, and you decide that hyperventilating while making out isn’t the way to go so in one swift motion you sit up, pushing James off of you.
You breathe in harshly. James now sits up straight, staring at you wide-eyed, glasses askew. You laugh but it sends you right into a coughing fit. You start to panic a bit and search for your inhaler. James snaps out of his daze and seems to get the memo. After what feels like forever, James lifts the inhaler. “Got it” he yells triumphantly.
Snatching it from his hand, you take a couple of puffs, breathing in and out slowly.
“Woah. I guess you could say I took your breath away.”
You shoot him a look but can’t help but burst out laughing. James' laugh follows.
“No, seriously though. Are you okay?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Just a bit winded.”
James smirks, seemingly a bit too proud. “Sorry about that,” he says with fake sympathy.
“Sorry about what? Trying to eat my face off or trying to take me in the back of my car?”
James' face goes bright red. You don’t understand how he can be so confident yet so easily embarrassed.
“I-I okay, woah, I-” He stutters over his words.
“Gosh James, I thought you’d have a bit more class than that.”
He scoffs, “I have plenty of class and I don’t think I heard any complaints from you.”
You shrug, “Could’ve been better.”
James' jaw falls open in disbelief. “Oh really now.”
“Yup”
Before you know it he’s bringing you down to your back and you let out a yelp of surprise.
“Well since you’re so great I guess you’ll have to help me practice.”
You hum. “Oh yes, you’ll need all the practice you can get.”
James lets out a loud laugh, making your heart flutter. “Yeah, well let's hope you don’t have to reach for your inhaler every 5 minutes.”
You smack his shoulder. “Hey! I am a star athlete. I don’t think a little acti-”
James cuts you off, bringing his lips to yours. This time it's soft and sweet. James pulls away. “Talking to you is going to be a lot easier now that I can do that.”
“Keep talking and that’ll be the last time you get to do that.”
James nods quickly. “Yes ma’am. Message received.”
With a nod from you, James is back on you. He leans into you heavily, moving his lips with yours. You reach up for his glasses, feeling them start to dig into your face. James' hand comes to your wrist, stopping you. Pulling away, he rushes out a ‘wait!’
You look at him confused. “What?”
“Don’t take them off.”
“James, as much as I love your glasses, they’re digging into my face.”
James blinks at you with a slight pout on his face. “I can’t see anything when I take them off.”
“Okay?”
He sighs, “I can’t see you when I take them off.”
You roll your eyes at him. “James Potter you are such a sap.”
He rolls his eyes back at you. “Yeah, well you’ll just have to deal with it.”
“I suppose I will. Okay they can stay on”
James smiles brightly. “Yay! Now shut up and let me kiss you.”
And who are you to deny him?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Alright, you guys did great today! Don’t forget to tell your parents that there won't be any classes next week.” you hear a chorus of answers promising they will. Considering you’re talking to a bunch of toddlers, you make a mental note to send out an email.
You guide them off the ice and towards their parents, waving bye to them all.
You’ve been helping teach the toddler class while their coach is out of town. Doc hadn't fully cleared you but gave you the green light to teach the little ones.
You make your way towards the office to drop off the sign-in forms. When you walk in, you’re greeted by a smiling Remus.
“Hello, love. How are the tots?”
You give him a tired smile, “Rambunctious as always.”
Remus laughs, taking the papers from you. “You think you’d take this opportunity to get away from this place but no.”
You lean forward on the counter. “And miss out on seeing you every day? No way.”
Remus shakes his head, turning away from you. Ears slightly pink. “You’re insufferable.”
Before you can respond you hear someone else enter the office. More like two someones.
James and Sirius walk over to where you’re talking to Remus. James' eyes shift from you to Remus’ red ears and then back to you.
“Hey, I thought I told you to stop flirting with Remus.” He says with a slight frown.
You shrug, “I’ve done no such thing.”
James rolls his eyes. “Yeah right. Liar.”
Sirius and Remus erupt in laughter as James pouts.
Sirius ruffles James' hair. “Oh James, it’s sweet that you think you can stop whatever it is they’ve got going on.”
James huffs, pointing at Remus. “You’ve got to stop whatever alluring charm you’ve got going on.”
Sirius laughs harder. Remus gives James a cheeky smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m just myself.”
You swoon dramatically at his words. “Oh, Remus.”
“Hey! No, don't swoon!” James says, looking frantically between the two of you.
Remus and Sirius roar in laughter at his reaction.
With the other two still laughing, James walks over to you. You give him a sweet smile.
He frowns at you. “Why do you insist on giving me a hard time?”
“Someone's got to keep you on your toes, humble you a bit.” He glares at you but breaks into a smile of his own.
With Sirius and Remus now wrapped up in their own conversation, James leans in a bit closer.
“Hm, humble me? How can I be humble when you’re praising me all the time when we-” You slap a hand over his mouth, blushing furiously. You feel him smirk against your hand.
He reaches for your wrist, pulling your hand away, giving it a soft kiss. “How were the lessons?” He says changing the subject.
“They were great. Lenny didn’t cry at all this time.”
He gives you an encouraging pat on the waist. "Nice, and what about your foot?”
You shrug, “It feels fine. I think stretching before ice time helps.”
James smiles. “You’ve been doing the stretches?”
You nod. He gives you a high five “That's my girl.”
He goes silent, looking between you and his friend's chit-chatting. He leans in, whispering into your ear.
“Hey, when's your appointment with Doc again?”
You think for a minute. “Um, not till this afternoon, why?”
“So you’re free right now?”
“Yeah”
“What a coincidence, so am I.” He says with a mischievous look in his eyes.
A moment pauses.
“Well. What are you waiting for?”
James springs into action. His hand grabs yours, leading the both of you out of the office.
“Hey, where are the two going?”
Without turning around James yells out “Practice” You can’t help but laugh at the confused responses you get from Sirius and Remus.
James continues down his path, determined.
“Wait James, what about my bag and my-”
He pats the side of his bag. Hanging from a chain is one of your backup inhalers. You stare at him in shock. With a quick kiss on the forehead and a cheeky smile, James continues to drag you both out of the rink.
Practice does ensue.

⋆˚࿔ the way 𝜗𝜚 ˚⋆ — jj maybank and pogue!princess!reader
“ you a princess to the public, but a freak when it’s time, “
cw ; making out, reader tries to go further, ‘mama’ and ‘princess’ nickname, drunk!reader.
Tumblr media
jj had bought the hot tub a year ago, during a moment of rage and upset, and he thought the pogues would instantly return his reckless decision and get the restitution money back — news flash, he was wrong.
there have been many parties in the fun hot tub, getting drunk and splashing around with the pogues, tonight was no different. it started out normal and fun, sipping drinks and giggling and talking about stuff that would make no sense to a sober person. then kie and pope left to have some ‘alone time.’
“oh my god, jj, you know what that means right?” you giggling, sipping your vodka pink lemonade.
“what, mama?” he knows what, he’s just entertaining you because you’re cute when you’re drunk — not like he’d ever admit to thinking that.
“means theyre gonna go do it,” john b even laughs at that, which makes you laugh more. “thought you liked her, jayj,” you say after the giggles stop.
“who? kie?” he asks, faking obliviosness.
“mhm,”
he shakes his head. “nah. no, she’s all pope’s. plus, shes like, a bop, always going after another guy,”
“ew, jj, don’t say bop,” john b cringes.
“then who do you like?” you ask, too drunk to care that you’re prying.
“can’t tell you that, ‘s a secret,”
“jayj, thats no fun!” you pout, gently pushing his bicep which makes him laugh. “just tell me, probably won’t even remember tomorrow,”
“yeah yeah. maybe later,”
sarah whispers something to john b and he makes up some shitty excuse and leaves.
“dunno why everyone is hooking up,” you say. “‘s dumb, don’t like being the only single one,”
he rolls his eyes. “i’m single too, mama, y’not the only one, i feel you,”
“yeah, but you like someone. you always get who you like, it’s how you work,”
“what, and you don’t? huh? remember in sophomore year when you kissed topper thornton because you had that kook phase?”
“it was a peck, we didn’t even make out,” you argue. “never made out with anyone before,” you murmur under your breath.
his eyebrows furrow. sorry, did he hear you right? “what?” he asks, implying that you repeat yourself louder.
“i’ve never made out with anyone before.” you admit a bit louder.
“c’mooon,” he takes a sip of his beer. “that’s not true. you’re drunk, stop lying,”
“m’not lying!”
the water moves as he gets a bit closer to you. “y/n, im 100% sure you’re lying. i mean come on, you’re the prettiest girl on the island, you’ve even got kooks, like — rafe cameron type shit — going after you. and you’ve never made out with someone?”
you splash him with the hot water. “stop rubbing it in,”
“hey hey, not trying to be mean, mama,”
“just because you’re always making out with girls doesnt mean that everyone does. you’re a player,” the insult is obviously not said seriously.
“hey, i ain’t a player, i just..” you roll your eyes. “you’re gross,” you say, but you’re back to smiling.
“i could always help you out. i mean cmon, it would be fun, having someone you’re close to being your first. not some random kook,”
“what do you mean?”
“i’m just saying that if you need it, i got it. i got it everyday.”
so you’re not exactly sure when you ended up on your best friend’s lap, but you really like it. being on top of jj maybank, the cutest surfer and pogue in town, a literal light in the OBX. you’re having fun, giggling between kisses when he says something silly or gets dramatic when you nip his lower lip. it’s like he’s putting on a show to make you more comfortable. your hand is tracing his abs underneath the water, feeling him up, your other hand on his shoulder. his hands are everywhere — like, literally everywhere your pink bikini doesn’t cover. it’s clear he’s been wanting to do this for a while.
you two take breaks to have a sip of your drinks and get more drunk and have more fun. he tries a sip of your vodka lemonade and cringes at the sweetness, and you giggling and kiss him again. your lipgloss is making his lips and neck and jaw all sticky. he wonders where you got so good at this.
you go to feel him through his swim trunks, and he stops you, grabbing your poorly polished hand. “what?” you ask, smiling dropping.
“hey, c’mon, don’t wanna steal all your firsts in one night,” he squeezes your waist.
“when did you become responsible?”
“since now.”
you groan. “but i love the way you make me feel. do you not like me like that?”
“hey, princess, i got some feelings for you i’m not gonna get bored of. but let’s take it slow for me too, mkay mama? so it’ll be a first for me too.”
with that, you nod and go back to kiss him.

Maniac: We Had Magic But You Made It Tragic
Tumblr media
Daniela Avanzini x fem!reader
3.3k words | established relationship | story starts with predebut daniela | predebut friends are fictional
angst, fluff, homophobia, closeted, suggestive(ish) joke
Tumblr media
In all honesty, it is truly dreadful to walk these halls, and you'd rather be anywhere than here at the moment. Opening the door to your locker though, you couldn't help the smile that crept to your lips at the sight of a little brown teddy bear, already having an idea of how it ended up in your locker.
"Hi cutie, I'll meet you up at your place tonight @ 10," a small handwritten letter said.
You stifle a chuckle, remembering that you once told Daniela that you valued handwritten letters, and although this is not the type of handwritten letter you had in mind, knowing that it came from the blonde made it a hundred times better.
After getting your stuff from the locker, you headed to your next class.
As you sat in your chair, you couldn't help but let your mind wander to the girl that has been taking over your thoughts for the past three months. You didn't even know why someone like Daniela would give you the time of day—heck, she's literally THE Daniela Avanzini. It is especially shocking because prior to her taking an interest in you, you would have sworn that she is exclusively a boy kisser.
It still baffles you every time you think about your first interaction. It was at the parking lot near the campus grounds, it’s already dark and you had been standing there alone, waiting for someone you barely knew.
“Your date stood you up?” You visibly jolted, shocked at the sudden voice behind you. Turning around, you were surprised to see Daniela Avanzini staring right at you, a smirk visible on her lips, her arms crossed over her chest while her hands held her car keys.
“What, you see a loser in the wild and you immediately assume that she got stood up by a date? That’s very judgemental of you,” You replied, light-heartedly.
Although you meant it as a joke, you could see the shift in the girl’s demeanor, scratching her loose blond curls, looking slightly embarrassed, “Oh— I… I didn’t—”
“It’s alright, I was messing with you,” You cut her off. Daniela nodded before regaining her composure, “So what are you doing here all alone?”
Studying her face, it took you a hot minute to answer because first of all, you did not expect her to engage in an actual conversation with you; sure you expected a snarky remark about getting ditched by a date, but you didn’t expect her to actually talk to you. You immediately convinced yourself that she probably still feels guilty about her assumption which you called her out for.
“I mean if you don’t mind me asking,” Daniela added, “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to sound like a creep, especially not in an empty parking lot.”
You realized that while you were overthinking, you were simply staring at the blonde’s face, probably making her feel more tense than she already was, “No, I don’t mind at all, sorry,” You started, “My mind went blank all of a sudden, it’s just that Hailey borrowed my notes yesterday and she asked me to meet her here so that she could return them.”
The blonde clicked her tongue before replying, “Well damn, I guess you’re not getting it tonight though.”
You look at her in question, “Why not?”
“She and her boyfriend had an argument earlier so now she’s at his place because he’s trying to make it up to her,” Daniela says.
“Oh, wow. Thanks for the heads up, god I hope she told me that herself so that I didn’t have to wait here all night thinking she had dance practice or something,” You said, obviously pissed, but your foul mood was not directed towards the blonde in front of you, rather it was for the blonde that ditched you.
“Look, I’m sure Hailey just forgot, she tends to do that when she’s stressed by her boyfriend, and maybe she couldn’t text you because she didn’t have your number,” Daniela tried to reason.
Now you felt bad because although she’s not the person you’re pissed at, she’s definitely in the receiving end of your attitude so you straightened up and said, “Yeah you’re right, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be a bitch towards you, I really do appreciate you telling me all this.”
Daniela flashes you a bright smile, her dimple showing, and you swore your heart bursted at the sight, “No worries at all, god knows what I would’ve said and done if I were in your position,” She wraps her hand around your arm, caressing it, “It’s all good, don’t worry, you weren’t a bitch at all.”
You could feel goosebumps all over the arm that the dancer held, especially with her eyes locked onto yours, it felt like you were suffocating but in the best way possible.
“Well, since we have established that you wouldn’t be seeing Hailey tonight, do you have any other plans?”
“Other than going home?” You asked, shocked that she would even ask such a question.
Daniela flashed you another smile, her dimple once again making an appearance, "I'd seriously kill for an unhealthily greasy burger right now," You could see the girl studying your face before continuing, "I was wondering if you'd like to join me?"
"I–" You honestly fell silent, not knowing how to respond to a really pretty girl asking you to eat with her, "Sure, I'd love to."
The dancer's smile widens, her eyes practically glowing in the dimly lit parking lot, "Great, I know a really good place. My car's just over there," The girl turns around, pointing towards her red car.
You nodded, and followed her when she started making her way towards the vehicle, "Oh shit, I forgot to ask," She turns back to face you, "Do you have a ride? Sorry, I just assumed that you'd ride with me…"
Daniela laughs awkwardly, scratching her head before adding, "God, I should really stop assuming things about you."
You gave the blonde a genuine smile of your own, finding the whole interaction adorable, "It's fine, Daniela, I don't mind, and no, I don't have a ride."
The girl's eyes visibly widened at the mention of her name, "Oh god," she said.
You look at her in curiosity, "Why? Is there something wrong?" You asked as the both of you approached the car.
"I just remembered, I didn't even introduce myself to you," The blonde said, a look of utter disbelief painted on her face. You couldn't help but chuckle at the girl.
"Daniela," you started, emphasizing her name, "I highly doubt that you even have to; you're like one of the most well-known students in our batch," you gave her a kind smile before adding, "If anything, I should be the one worried that I haven't introduced myself."
The dancer shakes her head in disagreement, "No," She starts, "Well, I already know you, I mean, I've seen you perform at some of your gigs," You could feel your cheeks heating up as the girl opens the car door for you, her eyes steady on your frame. You never would have thought that she'd be hanging out at the cafes that you played in, other than the fact that you'd never seen her, it just doesn't seem like her vibe.
"Oh, well, I'd hardly call it a performance," You replied as she finally enters her car, getting ready to drive off, "I just go up the stage with a guitar and sing," You could see the girl about to disagree with you when you added, "You on the other hand, wow, you are a performer."
Despite her focus being trained on the road, you could see the pink tint coloring the girl's cheeks, "That is not true," was all she could say.
"Oh come on, Daniela," You started, "You're a dance prodigy—you know for a fact that I'm right."
That night was the start of something unexpected; a vicious and feisty force that was Daniela just waltz into your life without any warning, and ever since then, the girl kept finding ways to bump into you and spark a conversation with you.
And of course, you did not even try to avoid it; in fact, you loved the attention that Daniela gave you—she's such an addictive person and the more you saw her, the more you wanted to bask in her presence.
It didn't even take the dancer long before she finally asked you out on a real date, which ended successfully, causing the both of you to finally have a mutual understanding of dating each other in private, mostly because she is not ready to come out of the closet.
You were lying on your bed, scrolling through twitter when you received a text from your girlfriend, telling you that she's right outside. You send her a quick response before quietly rushing out of your bedroom to sneak her into your house.
Daniela never fails to look amazing whenever she meets up with you. Sure, the latina always looks absolutely stunning even without much effort, but there's certainly something different every time she goes out to see you, and in a way, it gives you a sense of pride knowing that only you get to see her this way, and that maybe, just maybe, she puts in the effort to look good for you.
"Are you doing anything this Saturday?" The dancer looks at you expectantly as she laid on your lap, both of you resting comfortably on your bed. You had an exam on Monday that you really had to prepare for, but you decided to ask the dancer, "Do you have any plans in mind?"
"Mhm," She nods adorably, sitting up straight facing you, "I was wondering if you'd like to go to the movies with me," Daniela basically pleads with her eyes, "My friends have been raving about this one horror film, and I really really want to watch it. Please?"
Now seriously, how do you say no to that? Exactly, you don't.
After making plans with her, both of you cuddled on your bed with the latina being the small spoon. You spoke into her exposed neck, feeling the goosebumps immediately form around the area, "Dani, baby, it's midnight."
The blonde sighs before turning around to face you. She stares into your eyes before she wraps her arm on your waist holding you closer, and buries her face on your chest.
“I don’t care,” Daniela says, squeezing your body closer which you didn’t even think was possible. As much as you didn’t want her to go, you replied, “Tomorrow’s a school day, Dani, you have to go back home.”
The girl only grumbled in response so you continued, “Besides, my parents would freak out if they see a stranger’s car outside our house.”
Daniela finally separates her face from your chest, looking at you sheepishly, “But I’m not a stranger now, am I? Not with all the things I’m doing to their little princess,” she says, a smirk evident on her lips.
Your cheeks heat up at her words, choosing to ignore her insinuation, you said, “To them, you are a stranger, and I can’t exactly introduce you to them as my friend because that just feels wrong.”
You could see the pout forming on the latina’s lips and you wanted nothing more than to kiss it away. It seems as though Daniela read your thoughts because not even a minute later her hand brushes your cheeks before leaning into you, taking your lips in a slow kiss.
“Alright, I’ll go,” Daniela says, her lips still on yours, “I’ll miss you,” she utters.
You bite her bottom lip, urging her to kiss you once again, “Don’t be silly, we’ll see each other on campus.”
Daniela Avanzini is truly addictive—a girl like her is hard to let go of and you are certain that you are the luckiest person alive knowing that you get to call her your girlfriend, albeit not publicly. The mere knowledge that she likes you is enough.
However, it would be a lie if you said that it didn’t bother you: keeping your relationship secret. You were a private person yourself, but lov—liking Daniela feels like it isn’t enough; you feel the need to tell the world that you are hers.
You couldn’t help but compare yourself to her ex boyfriend, a famous jock in your highschool, and how public their relationship was. It wasn’t that you were jealous. No—but you sure feel envious of what they had.
How freely he could visit Daniela at her home, her family welcoming him with open arms. How he could easily tag along with Daniela’s friends when they hangout. How he was able to tell the whole school how much Daniela meant to him.
You weren’t jealous of him, but you envied what he had with Daniela. Because as much as the latina makes an effort to see you, it feels like the effort to hide you from her life was bigger.
Like how she barely acknowledges you at school, the way she makes an effort to go to campus at a ridiculously early hour just to slip a note in your locker so that no one would see her, how she would visit your home late at night and having to sneak her in. Although it hasn’t been long, she already means the world to you, and whenever your mind touches these thoughts, you can’t avoid the bitter feeling that grows in your chest.
But deep inside, you knew that Daniela was worth the wait. You don't know how much time she needs before she feels comfortable enough to let this secret out, but until then, you would settle for anything that the girl was ready to give.
Saturday rolls around and you could barely contain your excitement. It has been a while since you actually went out with Daniela; she only either sneaked into your room or she’d pick you up to sneak you into hers.
You find yourself overthinking about what to wear to your date with the blonde, not wanting to go overboard but also wanting to look pretty for the girl. You settled with a casual outfit that you were comfortable in, but tried to make an effort in your appearance by putting on some makeup.
Not long after getting ready, you received a text message from your girlfriend. You smiled at her words before typing in your response.
Tumblr media
Double checking whether everything is in place, you gathered your stuff and headed out the house. As much as you were pretty introverted, your parents don't exactly question you as much when you leave because for the most part, they assume that you’ll be out singing at cafes.
When you arrived at the gas station, you could already see the striking red car of your girlfriend. Daniela spots you from the driver’s seat and immediately vacates her vehicle to greet you.
The blonde carefully studies your frame from your shoes til her eyes slowly reach yours, taking in your appearance, “You look amazing,” She said, seemingly breathless.
You’re sure that a pink tint has appeared on your cheeks as you feel them heat up at your girlfriend’s compliment mixed with her intense stare, “And you look beautiful, Dani, as always.”
The blonde steps into your personal space and wraps her arms around you, a hand reaching the back of your head, urging you to bury your face onto the crook of her neck.
“I missed you,” Daniela says as she plants a soft kiss on your temple, still holding onto you. You were grateful that she was practically shielding you from the world because it meant that you could hide the stupidly big smile on your lips, feeling both joyful and perplexed at the public display of affection coming from the latina. You truly prayed for times like this.
The mere action made you hopeful; perhaps things are finally about to change.
Little did you know, you were right—things were about to change, but not for the better.
The film that you watched was great. Sure, it was scary and you had a few jumps and shrieks which were embarrassing to say the least, but every time you did so, Daniela held you as close as possible, so you still considered it as a win.
As the movie ended, both of you made your way out of the cinema, “Dani,” you called out to the blonde, “I’ll just go to the bathroom real quick,” you informed her.
She nodded and said, “Alright, I’ll be waiting for you outside.”
As Daniela exited the cinema, she heard a familiar voice calling her, “Dani?” The latina freezed at her spot, trying to calm her nerves before turning around to face the girl who was already smiling widely at her.
“Hey Hailey,” the latina greeted her friend, feeling uncomfortable but trying her hardest not to let it show, “You watched the movie?”
The other blonde shook her head no, “We’re just about to watch it, but I thought I saw you leaving the cinema so I followed you just to be sure.”
“Why didn’t you say that you were going to go to the movies? We could’ve gone together!” Hailey said, then suddenly she squints her eyes at the latina, “Or are you here on a date? Oh my god Daniela, who are you with?”
Daniela tried to act nonchalantly, rolling her eyes at her friend’s excitement with a smirk on her face. She knew that you could come out any minute, and that there’s probably no way out of this situation so she tried her best to save her face.
“Oh god, you won’t even believe me if I told you,” Daniela said, a laugh laced with her tone, “I went with Y/N.”
“What?” Hailey looks surprised, “I didn’t know you two were friends?”
“We’re not,” Daniela laughs lightly, “It’s a bit of a long story so I’ll text you the details later, but yeah…” the girl trailed off, “She seems to admire me so I went with it, and in return I get free booze and food from her,” Daniela laughs.
Her friend widens her eyes before she laughs with her friend, “Oh my god, Daniela! You must be so bored with your life! That’s so funny though,” the girl laughs, “And really smart, damn.”
“Yeah,” The latina agrees, “You know how she sings at some cafes and bars?” Her friend nods, urging her to continue, “Well, let’s just say that I can confirm that the foods and drinks from those places are pretty good.”
Hailey was just about to reply to the other dancer when the pair spotted you exiting the cinema, cutting their conversation to a sudden end. You raised your gaze and your eyes met your girlfriend’s, then her friend’s who was looking at you with amusement in her eyes.
You almost stopped in your tracks knowing that Daniela never told her friends that she even knows you, but seeing the girl’s smile, you felt at ease and decided to approach the pair.
“Hey,” you said, nervously. “Oh my god,” Hailey says, “I have to go, the movie’s about to start.”
She locks eyes with the other blonde before saying, “I’ll catch up with you later, alright? Tell me everything.”
Both you and Daniela watched as the girl entered the cinema, and as she was no longer in sight, the blonde broke the silence, “Hey, you ready to go home?”
You met your girlfriend’s gaze, studying her face, unsure of whether you should ask her about Hailey or not, but decided against it, thinking that if she wants to talk about it, she’ll bring it up.
A small smile appears on your lips before you reply, “Yeah, let’s go.”

Hearts On The Sidelines Part 5
Ellie was at Bobby’s apartment, lounging on his couch while he dramatically recounted his latest work story, complete with exaggerated hand gestures and an abundance of flair. She was only half-listening, her thoughts drifting back to Leah—her smile, her confidence, and the gentle way she’d held Ellie’s hands outside the club. It had been a week since that night, and Ellie had replayed the moment in her head more times than she cared to admit.
Her phone buzzed on the coffee table, interrupting Bobby mid-rant.
“Oh, what’s got you so popular?” he teased, leaning forward to peek.
Ellie grabbed her phone before he could, her heart skipping when she saw Leah’s name light up the screen.
Leah: Hey, pretty girl. Got plans this Friday night?
Ellie blinked at the screen, her palms suddenly clammy. Plans? Did Leah mean… plans plans? Her mind raced, half-wanting to reply immediately, half-wanting to toss her phone into the nearest cushion and pretend she hadn’t seen it.
Bobby raised an eyebrow. “What’s that look for?”
“It’s Leah,” Ellie said, her voice somewhere between a squeak and a whisper.
“And?” Bobby prompted, waving his hand for her to go on.
“She—she’s asking if I have plans Friday.”
Bobby’s face split into a wide grin. “Ooooh, baby girl, she’s asking you out. Don’t just sit there—answer her!”
Ellie hesitated, her thumbs hovering over the keyboard. “What if she’s not? What if it’s, like, a group thing or something?”
“Ells,” Bobby said, his tone deadpan, “this is Leah Williamson we’re talking about. That girl is not subtle. She’s into you. Now answer before she thinks you’re ignoring her.”
Ellie took a breath and typed back.
Ellie: Not yet. Why?
The response came almost immediately.
Leah: Good. I want to take you out. A proper date. Dinner and everything.
Ellie stared at the words, her heart pounding so hard she thought it might leap out of her chest. Bobby snatched the phone from her hands before she could stop him, reading the message and letting out an obnoxiously loud squeal.
“She said it!” he crowed. “She actually said ‘date.’ Oh my god, Ellie, this is it. Your time has come.”
“Give it back!” Ellie lunged for her phone, snatching it from his grasp and glaring at him. But she couldn’t stay annoyed, not when her chest felt like it might burst from excitement and nerves.
Ellie: I’d like that.
Leah: Friday at 7. I’ll pick you up. Wear something nice ;)
Ellie groaned, already feeling the heat creep up her neck at Leah’s casual confidence.
“See? Told you,” Bobby said smugly, flopping back onto the couch. “You’re going on a date with the Leah Williamson. I hope you know I expect a full report.”
Ellie rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile. “Yeah, yeah. Now help me figure out what to wear.”
———————————————————————————————————————
The restaurant hummed with soft conversation and the clinking of silverware, creating a bubble of intimacy that Ellie wasn’t used to. Across from her, Leah seemed perfectly at ease, leaning slightly forward with her chin propped on her hand, her piercing gaze trained on Ellie like she was the only person in the room.
Ellie wasn’t sure if it was the wine, Leah’s undivided attention, or the flickering candlelight, but she felt unusually warm. Still, the awkwardness simmered under the surface, like a pot threatening to boil over.
Leah noticed her fidgeting fingers and reached across the table, gently covering Ellie’s hand with her own. The sudden warmth of Leah’s touch stilled Ellie, her eyes flicking up to meet Leah’s.
“You’re nervous,” Leah said softly, her voice a low hum that felt more like a balm than an observation.
“I’m not nervous,” Ellie lied, her tone betraying her. She dropped her gaze, staring at where their hands touched. “Okay, maybe a little.”
Leah smiled, the corners of her eyes crinkling. “You don’t have to be, you know. It’s just me.”
Ellie huffed a laugh. “Just you? You’re Leah Williamson. That’s not exactly nothing.”
Leah’s thumb brushed lightly over the back of Ellie’s hand. “Ellie,” she said, her tone firmer but still gentle. “To you, I’m just Leah. No Captain, no star player, no fanfare. Just me. And I’m here because I want to be.”
Ellie swallowed hard, her chest tightening at Leah’s words. It wasn’t often that someone spoke to her with such sincerity, without any expectation or ulterior motive. She nodded, more to herself than Leah.
“I’m not great at this,” Ellie admitted, her voice barely audible above the din of the restaurant.
Leah tilted her head slightly. “At what?”
“This,” Ellie gestured vaguely between them. “Talking. Being open. Letting people in.”
Leah’s smile softened, her fingers giving Ellie’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “That’s okay. You don’t have to be great at it. You just have to be honest. Start small.”
Ellie hesitated, biting her lip as she stared at the tablecloth. The silence stretched just long enough for Leah to pull back slightly, giving Ellie the space she needed.
“I wasn’t always this awkward, you know,” Ellie finally said, a small, self-deprecating smile tugging at her lips. “The Army kind of… changed things.”
Leah stayed quiet, her expression unreadable but patient. Ellie glanced up and saw that Leah’s gaze hadn’t wavered, her blue eyes steady and open.
“When you’re in that kind of environment, you learn to shut out a lot of things,” Ellie continued. “Feelings. Connections. Anything that could make you hesitate when it mattered.”
Leah nodded slowly, not breaking eye contact. “Makes sense.”
“It worked there,” Ellie said, a bitter edge creeping into her voice. “But now? Now I don’t know how to turn it off. I’m fine when it comes to work, but when it’s something like this…” She gestured between them again, her fingers tightening slightly around Leah’s hand. “I feel like I’m failing some basic human test.”
Leah chuckled softly, the sound low and reassuring. “You’re not failing anything, Ellie.”
Ellie met her eyes, her own filled with uncertainty. “How do you know?”
Leah leaned back slightly, her hand never leaving Ellie’s. “Because I’m sitting here with you, and I wouldn’t be if I didn’t want to be. And because you’re here, too, even though I know it’s hard for you. That’s enough.”
Ellie blinked, her throat tightening at the weight of Leah’s words. She looked away, embarrassed by the tears that pricked at the corners of her eyes.
“You’re really good at this,” she muttered, trying to deflect.
Leah grinned, her fingers brushing lightly over Ellie’s knuckles. “What can I say? I have my moments.”
Ellie rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress the small smile that broke through. “Cocky,” she murmured.
“Confident,” Leah corrected, her tone playful but still warm. “And for the record, I think you’re pretty great at this, too. Even if you don’t see it.”
Ellie laughed quietly, a sound that felt more like a release than amusement. “You’re too nice.”
“Maybe,” Leah said with a shrug. “Or maybe I just think you’re worth it.”
The words settled over Ellie like a blanket, warm and comforting. For the first time in a long while, she didn’t feel the need to run from the vulnerability. She nodded again, her fingers tightening slightly around Leah’s.
“Thanks,” she said softly, her voice steady despite the emotions swirling beneath the surface.
Leah smiled, her thumb still tracing soothing patterns on Ellie’s hand. “Anytime, pretty girl.”
And just like that, Ellie felt a tiny crack form in the walls she’d built around herself—small but significant.
———————————————————————————————————————
The walk back to Ellie’s apartment was filled with quiet laughter and a lightness Ellie hadn’t felt in years. The cool evening air nipped at her cheeks, but Leah’s presence beside her was a comforting warmth that chased away the chill. They walked close, shoulders brushing every so often, and each time, Ellie felt a jolt of awareness that made her heart flutter.
When they reached Ellie’s door, she fumbled for her keys, her nerves creeping back in. Leah stood patiently behind her, her hands tucked into the pockets of her blazer. Ellie finally managed to unlock the door, pushing it open just enough to let the light from inside spill out.
“Well, this is me,” Ellie said awkwardly, her hand lingering on the doorknob as she turned to face Leah.
Leah smiled, stepping closer until she was just a breath away. “I had a great time tonight,” she said softly, her voice low and warm. “You surprised me.”
Ellie tilted her head. “Surprised you?”
Leah nodded, her gaze steady and intent. “I knew I’d like you, but I didn’t expect to feel so…” She trailed off, her lips quirking into a smirk. “Captivated.”
Ellie’s cheeks burned, and she dropped her gaze, unsure how to respond. Before she could overthink, Leah reached out, her fingers brushing lightly against Ellie’s chin, gently tilting her head up.
“Don’t hide from me, pretty girl,” Leah murmured, her thumb grazing Ellie’s cheek. “I like seeing you.”
Ellie’s breath hitched, her pulse quickening. She didn’t have time to formulate a response before Leah leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that was soft but firm, her hand sliding to the back of Ellie’s neck to hold her close. Ellie melted into the kiss, her hands instinctively gripping Leah’s blazer for support.
Leah deepened the kiss, her other hand coming to rest on Ellie’s waist, grounding her while pulling her closer. Ellie wasn’t used to this kind of attention—focused, intentional, and completely consuming. She felt like she was standing on the edge of something vast and wonderful, and for once, she wasn’t scared to take the leap.
When Leah finally pulled back, her forehead rested lightly against Ellie’s, her breathing just a little uneven. “You okay?” she asked softly, her thumb brushing the curve of Ellie’s jaw.
Ellie nodded, her voice caught in her throat. “Yeah,” she managed to whisper, her hands still gripping Leah’s blazer like a lifeline.
Leah chuckled, the sound soft and low, before pressing a kiss to Ellie’s temple. “Good. Because I’d like to see you again.”
Ellie looked up, her eyes wide and unsure. “You would?”
“Ellie,” Leah said, her voice dipping into something more serious. “You’re not a fling for me. I’m here because I want to be. And I want to keep being here, as long as you’ll let me.”
Ellie swallowed hard, the weight of Leah’s words settling over her. She nodded slowly, a small, tentative smile tugging at her lips. “I’d like that.”
Leah smiled, leaning in to press another kiss to Ellie’s forehead, this one lingering. When she pulled back, she tucked a strand of Ellie’s hair behind her ear. “Go inside, pretty girl. Get some sleep.”
Ellie hesitated, reluctant to let the moment end. “Do you want to come in? Just for a little while?”
Leah’s smile softened, her hand sliding down Ellie’s arm to give her hand a gentle squeeze. “Not tonight,” she said, her tone tender but firm. “I want to take my time with you.”
Ellie felt her face heat again, but there was no mistaking the warmth in Leah’s gaze or the sincerity in her voice. She nodded, stepping back into her apartment. “Goodnight, Leah.”
“Goodnight, Ellie,” Leah said, her voice like a promise. She lingered for a moment, watching Ellie before turning to leave, her steps slow and deliberate.
Ellie closed the door, leaning against it with a sigh. Her heart was racing, and her lips still tingled from Leah’s kiss. For the first time in a long while, she felt like maybe—just maybe—she could let someone in. And that thought, as terrifying as it was, felt like the beginning of something wonderful.

Ok, just wanna say that I love your Hephaetus!Nikto.
Just a few things I’d like to say about Aphrodite. Love the way you have them written, I am in no way trying to make you change your interpretation of them.
She is one of the oldest gods along side Poseidon. Their lore dates back way before Ancient Greece and yet Aphrodite still predates him. Aphrodite is not just a soft thing. She started the Trojan war dammit. And she’s been associated with War as well, and not just in the sense that she has a relationship with Ares but of herself (then again haven’t done much research on this part so I could be wrong).
And Aphrodite is of the sea. The sea is no tame thing. It is wild. She is the Goddess of love and beauty and I’m getting a little pissed at Nikto for thinking she wouldn’t find him beautiful when it is her literal job to see the beauty in everything. Like come on dudeeee!!!!
I think the way you wrote him also pairs kinda well with the way you have the other Olympians view Aphrodite!Reader. I’d wonder if Aphrodite!Reader will ever snap on them and show them what it means to be the goddess of love and beauty.
Also fun fact, the ancient Greeks had multiple names for love that all had different meanings. I personally don’t know them all, but from what I recall, Eros is what they call romantic love.
Sorry for blabbing on, you don’t have to respond to this at all, just wanted to vent a little.
Oh no you're fine venting, I think a lot of people often think of Aphrodite in a specific way (pretty goddess of love who just cheats on her husband and is vindictive all the time) and here's what I will say regarding the way I'm writing Aphrodite!Reader:
Neither the reader nor Nikto is a reliable narrator.
Aphrodite sees herself as this wonderful loving force but she still walks the battlefield, taking trophies as often as she takes lives. She views herself as innocent in all of this drama and rumors, but she's done nothing to stop them(It's nice having Ares talk about how beautiful and good in bed she is, y'know?) She loves Nikto but she also treats him a bit like a curiosity, waiting for him to come to her because, well, everyone does eventually.
And Nikto is stuck in his vision of being cast aside by the gods. He's trapped in their mockery of him, why wouldn't he assume his unwilling wife, who begged to be kept a virgin goddess right before their wedding, doesn't like him? Aphrodite forces their way into his life, into his space, disrespecting any boundaries he tries to put up, of course he's wary of them. But at the same time Nikto only sees the parts of Aphrodite that they want him to see, the soft, the gentle, the loving with sweet voices and stroking fingers, so of course he thinks they're a bad fit. He's every bit her opposite.
The Trojan war has yet to happen in the timeline of the hephaestus!Nikto anthology, but I keep thinking about it because it will feel very out of character for Aphrodite to start a war over something as petty as vanity, but that's only because we've been seeing her through her own eyes.
Also I will say I think a lot of my softening of Aphrodite comes from my disbelief at the way goddesses act within Greek mythology. You're telling me every single goddess is vain and jealous, that they can't keep their man from cheating on them, that the Goddess of love can't find anything to love in her husband, that Artemis would turn her back on her desire to remain a virgin because one guy looked at her the right way? Like the way that the goddesses are depicted just reeks of misogyny and that particular brand of ancient Greek hatred for women. IDK So excuse me for making Aphrodite a little out of character from the myths in my attempt to give her the benefit of the doubt where no man ever did.

Night was Jay’s absolute domain. He walked among the shadows like a king in his castle, observing mortals live their pathetic lives. But that night, something changed. He saw her.
Jay was known to lack emotions; he was the embodiment of emptiness, mystery, the unknown. Yet, upon seeing her, a primal hunger consumed him. It wasn’t just desire—it was obsession. He wanted her.
Y/N was alone, lying on the damp grass in a moonlit field. Her body seemed sculpted from darkness itself, yet the moonlight touched her like a forbidden sanctuary. Jay felt something he couldn’t understand—an overwhelming, fiery longing.
He materialized a few meters from her, his eyes glowing with the intensity of his obsession. When Y/N sat up, alarmed, he enveloped her with his voice, soft as velvet yet sharp as a blade.
Jay: “Who are you to dare enchant the Lord of Shadows himself?”
Y/N recoiled, but couldn’t help locking eyes with him. Jay felt a perverse pleasure in her hesitation—a sweet fear that fed his obsession.
Jay: “Do not run from me,” he commanded, advancing like a living shadow. “You have no idea of the power you possess. Or what I would do to have you.”
She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat. Jay’s predatory smile grew as he leaned closer, delicately holding her chin with fingers that seemed carved from the night itself.
Jay: “You don’t understand, mortal. I could offer you worlds, dreams... pleasures that even gods would envy. But, truthfully, I want something simpler: I want you. Your surrender. Your body, your soul, your will... everything.”
Y/N tried to protest, but Jay only laughed—a low sound, thick with desire.
Jay: “Don’t fight this,” he murmured, his fingers brushing her neck. “I can be cruel, or I can be generous. Tell me... do you want to know what it means to be claimed by the darkness itself?”
Finally, she found the courage to speak.
Y/N: “You’re insane... Who... who are you?”
Jay tilted his head, his eyes blazing.
Jay: “No, little mortal. I am Jay, the God of Shadows. And now, you are mine—in every possible way.”
Y/N took a step back, but he advanced, his words dripping like sweet poison.
Jay: “You feel it, don’t you? This energy between us? It’s as if you were created solely for me.”
He raised his hand—a gesture both gentle and commanding—and a shadow slithered forward, brushing her skin. The touch was cold yet electrifying.
Y/N: “Why me?”
Jay: “Because you’re perfect. Every curve, every thought, every breath... everything about you was made to torment me.”
She tried to back away again, but he caught her wrist, his grip firm and possessive.
Jay: “You can try to run, but it’s useless, little one. I am the shadows. There is nowhere you can hide from me.”
Y/N’s voice trembled as she argued.
Y/N: “This isn’t... right. You can’t force me to do anything.”
He chuckled—a deep, lustful sound.
Jay: “Force you? No. But seduce you? Oh, that I will. I’ll make you beg to be mine.”
The shadows around them began to move, snaking across her body almost carnally, yet never crossing the line. Jay understood the thin boundary between fear and desire—and he was determined to make her cross it.
Jay: “Every night, you will dream of me. Every moment away from me will be torture. I will invade your thoughts, your desires, until you can no longer live without me.”
Though Y/N resisted, something in her eyes hinted that part of her was already yielding. Jay smiled, knowing the battle had only begun—and he had no intention of losing.
---------- TIME SKIP ----------
A dimly lit room, only candles casting shadows on the walls. The air was thick with desire. Jay, imposing and magnetic, approached Y/N, who lay on the bed, gazing at him with a mix of awe and longing.
Jay: “You know you cannot escape me, don’t you? Every shadow in this room belongs to me—just as you do.”
Y/N: “I know, Jay. And that only makes me want you more.”
Jay: “You’re so fragile, so human... and it drives me mad. I can’t let anyone else touch you.”
Y/N: “What do you mean by that?”
Jay leaned closer, his lips almost brushing hers.
Jay: “I mean that you’re mine. And I’ll show you exactly what that means.”
Y/N: “I want to feel it, Jay. I want to be yours.”
Jay: “Then let me take you to a place where only we exist. Where you are mine, and I am yours.”
He pulled her closer, his hands exploring her body as he kissed her passionately. The tension between them heightened, and Jay’s possessiveness became tangible.
Jay: “Never forget, S/N. You are mine. And I will do anything to protect what is mine.”
Y/N: “Then show me, Jay. Show me what it means to be yours.”
Jay enveloped her in his shadows, but instead of fearing the darkness, she felt safe and desired. He kissed her intensely, his hands traveling over her body. As the faint candlelight filled the space once more, Y/N felt the lingering intensity of Jay’s kiss on her lips, his touch igniting an unquenchable desire within her.
Jay gazed deeply into her eyes, his possessive yet adoring expression revealing the depth of his longing.
Jay: “You are mine.”
Y/N shivered, the mix of possessiveness and tenderness making her want to surrender completely. Jay leaned in again, his lips meeting hers with an urgency that made her feel alive.
Jay: “Let yourself go.”
S/N: “I’m in your hands.”
In the quiet intimacy of that moment, their bodies intertwined, surrendering entirely to the pull of their desire—a union of light and shadow, mortal and divine.
Lying naked on the bed, the two explored each other's bodies with their hands. Y/N, a little hesitant, placed her hand on Jay's hardened cock, which responded with a low groan. Slowly, she wrapped her hand around its base, and while looking into Jay’s eyes, she began to move her hand back and forth. It didn’t take long for Jay’s eyes to roll back in pleasure.
Jay was quick to reach for Y/N’s soaked pussy, her arousal sticky against his skillful fingers. He quickly found her clit, making circular motions that elicited soft moans from Y/N.
As both of them neared release, Jay stopped her movements.
Jay: “I don’t want to come yet. I want to be inside you when I do.”
Jay gently laid her in the middle of the bed, positioning himself between her legs. He guided his cock to Y/N’s needy entrance, slowly pushing in until he was fully inside her. He leaned down and kissed her passionately, starting to move at a slow and sensual rhythm. The kiss turned messy, filled with moans and sighs escaping between their lips.
Jay: “You take me so perfectly. Your pussy was made just for me.”
Y/N: “Yes, only you can have me like this.”
Jay’s movements quickened, her walls tightening around him more and more. It was becoming too much for him, and as he lost himself in the pleasure, his powers seemed to spiral out of control.
Jay’s eyes turned completely black, and a darkness far denser than before enveloped the room. His thrusts, once sensual and loving, turned intense, strong, and possessive.
When Jay finally reached his climax, his eyes returned to normal, and the darkness receded once again. Realizing what had just happened, Jay, startled, stopped his movements and withdrew. He looked into Y/N’s eyes, concerned, afraid he had hurt or terrified her.
Jay: “Are you hurt? Did I scare you?”
Smiling and feeling utterly satisfied, Y/N responded as she stroked his face.
Y/N: “Scary? My God, you’re divine.”

Barbie 7:14PM I miss you ☹️
Haechan’s phone buzzes with your incoming text as soon as he steps into the hotel room, immediately making him grin at the screen despite his exhaustion.
After a long day of tedious networking—with people he isn’t particularly interested in beyond business—he’d managed to escape Johnny’s invitation for dinner in a fancy restaurant in the city to return to the hotel instead, planning to crash your morning with a video call to see you.
You’ve always joked that he had both impeccable and terrible timing, though today his ability seems to be serving you.
7:15PM Oh my 😀😀😀😀😀 Is my baby missing me???? You aren’t supposed to be up yet What time is it over there now?
Barbie 7:15PM It’s 5am here Are you at the hotel already?
7:16PM Just got to my room Are you okay? Why are you up so early?? Don’t you have today off?
Barbie 7:16PM I do I just woke up and couldn’t sleep anymore Can I see you please? I’ll facetime
7:16PM My baby wants to see me??? 😀😀
The text’s marking read when a picture of you takes over the screen, a smile tugging at his mouth as Haechan accepts your call, sinking into an armchair by the window of his room.
As your face appears, he can’t help chuckling fondly at the sight—bundled up in a blanket, your sleepy eyes immediately beam upon seeing him. The room’s still dark save from the dim light from a lampshade, his heart skipping with a few familiar details around you.
“Hi, Barbie,” he greets animatedly, curious eyes squinting at the screen. “Are you at my apartment?”
A hint of bashfulness takes over your face as you smile back, nodding at him. “Yeah.”
“You look so cozy,” Haechan teases, smiling mischievously upon noticing the extra pillows around his bed. “Are you missing me so badly that you need to sleep at my place?”
With a huff that sounds more playful than anything, you shoot him an eye-roll. “You’re so annoying,” you answer, the quiet voice lacking the bite from your words. “Did you have a long day? You look a little tired.”
“You know I hate this kind of thing.” Haechan exhales a half-hearted laugh, running a hand through his hair. “If it wasn’t for Johnny, I’d be just around talking to the artists instead.”
You hum softly, smiling at his complaint. “Sounds like you.”
As he brings the phone closer to his face, Haechan raises a curious eyebrow at you, back to his playful self. “So… how’s everything over there? Are you taking good care of my plants?”
“They should be my plants since they’re only still alive because of me,” you argue, a smile soon following your half-hearted huff. “Alia’s still going crazy over the wedding plans, your mom asked me out for lunch earlier this week, work’s still work… same as always.”
“Oh, yeah, I saw the pictures of your date with Mrs. Lee,” he jokes, chuckling as you confusedly stare at him for a second. “She told me you were going out together, so I asked her for pictures. I’ll tell you that she did not disappoint me.”
“Oh my God, is that why she took so many pictures of me?” You frown, visibly surprised at the twist. “It felt like I was shooting for a magazine or something.”
Haechan grins, offering you a coy wink. “I made a new album in my gallery just for them.”
“You haven’t told me how’s the hotel yet,” you start, purposefully disregarding him with a hint of a smile on your face. “Is the city still the same as you remember?”
“The hotel is fine, just boring,” he complains, taking a glance around the place as if to suddenly find anything interesting. “I haven’t seen much of the city, though. My mom probably has an entire schedule planned to go as soon as she lands.”
“That’s so cute,” you reply, adjusting under the blankets with a soft laugh. “She does seem really excited about it. She couldn’t stop talking about the last time you guys visited your family at our lunch date.”
The conversation pauses for a second as Haechan lets himself watch you, holding back a smile at the little peek at your pajamas—a t-shirt that’s been missing from his closet for a good few months. Though as something suddenly moves underneath the blanket, seemingly walking right beside you, his face immediately shifts to a puzzled frown.
Haechan shifts on his seat, eyes squinting for a second time. “Do you have something to tell me, Barbie?”
That’s all it takes for a pair of fluffy ears to slip out, followed by a rather loud protest at the screen before a white and brown-ish cat climbs over you, settling comfortably on your chest as Haechan watches in a mix of bewilderment and adoration.
You glance at the camera for a second, biting your lip. “Surprise?”
“We have a cat?!” he asks dumbfounded, laughing in disbelief as his eyes shift between both of you. “Do we suddenly have a cat now?”
Giggling at his reaction, the cat suddenly meows on your chest, bothered by the movement. “It’s not ours, Hyuckie,” you explain, fingers carefully running through the fluff. “It’s Yangyang’s cat. His name is Coco.”
Haechan huffs playfully, shaking his head. “Well, it’s not Yangyang’s anymore.”
Moving the camera to a better angle, you snort when noticing him taking a screenshot. “He had a family emergency but his roommates aren’t in town, so he texted me asking if I could take Coco for the weekend.”
With a hum, Haechan furrows his eyebrows at the cat through the screen. “So Coco will spend the entire weekend with you at my place?” he asks, suddenly letting out a dramatic sigh at your nod. “It’s really tough seeing someone else living your dream.”
“Stop,” you counter, holding back a laugh at his antics. “Have you eaten dinner yet?”
“No.” He shakes his head, looking around for the hotel’s menu. “I’ll order some if you stay with me.”
As both of you exchange idle chit-chat about the trip, Haechan orders his dinner with yours and Coco’s company, soon moving to the table with the phone propped in front of him. With the food’s aroma spreading through the room, a happy groan escapes from his mouth, almost making him forget the attentive audience of two on the other side of the screen.
Amused at the delight on his face, you can’t help chuckling. “Did I make a good choice?”
“You make the greatest choices always, baby,” he says, already between a mouthful when Coco meows again. “Yeah, yeah, you too.”
The silence stretches for a second too long as Haechan finishes the meal, the lively mood of your little comments fading into a quiet, sudden pause. Though neither of you are usually bothered by these moments, something in the way you’re watching him makes Haechan pause.
“Uh-oh, it looks like you’re thinking too much,” he starts, smiling softly despite the tip of worry lacing his voice. “What’s wrong, Barbie?”
You hesitate for a moment, sighing quietly before speaking. “It’s just weird not having you here. I didn’t think it’d feel so… empty.”
As he clutches his chest theatrically, Haechan slumps into the chair with a groan. “Is my baby really missing me?” he taunts, the attempt to draw a laugh out of you succeeding upon your giggle. “You could’ve come with me, I told you I’d sneak you into our meetings.”
More playful than anything, you give him an incredulous glance. “I told you I have a job.”
“That’s just details, Barbie.” He shrugs, rolling his eyes exaggeratedly. “You know Mrs. Lee wouldn’t mind giving you a few days, right?”
“Well, she did ask me why I didn’t go with you…” you confess, the tone of your voice subtly changing to a teasing one. “You probably wouldn’t get any work done with me around, so it’s probably for the best.”
As he stops a protest short at your glare, Haechan nods solemnly instead, feigning defeat. “Ok, fine, maybe you’re right,” he admits, suddenly grinning as realization clicks in his eyes. “Oh, I got some stuff for you, by the way!”
You let out a half-hearted groan, watching fondly as he disappears into the hotel room. “What did I say, Hyuckie?”
“To not get you anything,” Haechan calls aloud, an edge of playful offense laced to his voice. “That’s the lamest thing you’ve ever asked me, baby. I’m not going home to you empty-handed.”
It only takes a moment for him to return to the screen again, leaving you visibly stunned while he juggles a ridiculous number of shopping bags into the frame. The rustling sound makes you laugh, bothering Coco enough that he meows grudgingly, moving to nestle himself against a pillow instead.
“Hyuck, what the hell?” you exclaim, bringing the phone closer as if to get a better look. “How is all of that fitting in your luggage, baby?”
“I haven’t gotten that far yet,” he answers casually, a grin instantly growing on his face upon spotting a specific bag, one of the biggest ones around him. “Oh, you’re gonna love this one—close your eyes for me, hm?”
Raising a suspicious eyebrow, you resist a smile by biting your lips. “Why should I?”
Giving the camera a knowing look, Haechan huffs mischievously, shaking his head at you through the screen. “You’re usually really good at obeying my orders.”
You scoff indignantly, visibly flustered at his words despite the annoyance. “You are with mine too!”
“I’m a good boy,” he agrees nonchalantly, your astonishment earning a smirk out of him. “Come on, Barbie, close them.”
With a small sigh, you oblige, squeezing your eyes shut. “Donghyuck, if you’re playing a prank on me—”
“Shhh, no talking,” Haechan interrupts, eagerly pulling the gifts from the bag before holding them closer to the phone. “Okay, open now!”
A hand immediately flies to your mouth as you gasp, taking in the sight of the two cute bears taking over the screen of your phone—behind Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma, Haechan can’t help laughing at your reaction.
“Oh my God, Hyuckie!” you start, eyes alight as a wide smile grows on your face. “They’re so cute! How’d you know I wanted them?”
He shrugs, though his grin gives away a hint of satisfaction. “I actually listen to my girlfriend like a good boyfriend should do.”
“You are the best,” you mumble, voice softening as a pout forms on your lips. “I love you.”
“You do, don’t you?” Haechan teases instead, ignoring the warmth spreading over his neck by shuffling through the shopping bags again. “You’re gonna love me even more with this one.”
As he holds it out, your jaw immediately drops at the designer name on the bright, startlingly pink bag in his hands. “You got me a Barbie bag?!”
“Obviously,” he says, mockingly serious as he nods solemnly. “I’ll receive my gratifications in the form of kisses and cuddles.”
You giggle, fondly shaking your head at his words. “I’ll kiss you for as long as you want,” you promise, holding the phone closer to your face as Haechan sets the plushies next to him. “They look a little bit like us.”
“They do, don’t they?” Haechan agrees, snorting a laugh with a look at the pair. “Mark said the same thing. He said I should’ve picked out matching outfits for them too.”
“Oh my God, we are absolutely doing that,” you beam, giving him a mock look of determination. “Rilakkuma and Korilakkuma need proper clothes as representatives of our relationship.”
He nods through the screen, visibly amused by your excitement. “Anything for you, baby.”
You chuckle sheepishly at the words, the sound warm and easy despite a subtle mood change as the moment draws for a second too long. There’s a pause as both of you just look at each other through the screen, charged with unspoken feelings.
“So… what’s your plans for tomorrow?” you ask, breaking the quiet with a lighter tone. “More boring meetings?”
“You should’ve come with me,” Haechan grumbles again, wrinkling his nose before leaning closer to the screen, as if to tell you a secret. “There’s still time, baby. Just say the word and I’ll book a flight right now.”
“You’re insane.” You shake your head, laughing for the nth time at how serious he sounds. “As much I’d love to, one of us needs to be the normal person in this relationship.”
Noting the hints of sunlight already slipping through the curtains at his place, Haechan watches you stretch under the blankets, a yawn escaping from your mouth just as he glimpses at the clock on the wall of his hotel room.
“You should take a nap,” he murmurs, smiling as the cat beside you mimics your motion on his pillow. “Coco seems to be filling my spot well, huh?”
“I have a feeling that he’d hate you,” you joke, playfully narrowing your eyes at Coco. “It took a few hours for him to warm up to me after Yangyang left.”
Haechan chuckles, his eyes softening the longer he watches the screen. “Hey, I miss you too, alright?” he says, gently taunting you. “How many more days until I’m back?”
“Ten,” you reply instantly, timidly avoiding his gaze for a second. “Not that I’m counting or anything.”
He grins, tilting his head with a click of his tongue. “Sure you’re not, Barbie.”
“I should let you go,” you sigh, coming off a little reluctant despite your firm nod. “It’s getting late for you and I have to set up Coco’s breakfast soon.”
With a hum, Haechan leans towards the camera with a hand over his ear. “How many more days?”
Despite a half-hearted eye-roll, you sound nothing but sweet as your voice drops to a whisper. “Ten, Hyuckie.”
“That’s right,” he says, his smile softening into something warmer, almost with a reverent touch. “I love you, hm?”
A smile spreads across your face, nodding through the screen one last time. “I love you too.”

Random Rook Banter 2: Electric Boogaloo
These are all made up by me!
Part 1
Harding: You seriously expect me to believe that you just so happened to have the exact cards you needed for every hand?
Rook: You’re really not letting this go, huh?
Harding: If I can prove you cheated, you have to give me my gold back.
Rook: How do you plan on doing that?
Harding: Neve’s on it.
Rook: …Shit.
~~~
Rook: Ok, let’s say I did cheat. How much would I owe you?
Harding: Forty gold.
Rook: Forty gold?!
Harding: I talked to some of Neve’s friends. They said to add a fee for the inconvenience of getting cheated.
Rook: You went to the *Threads* about this?
Harding: Neve said if I want to get back at a scammer, I need to go to the experts.
Rook: I’m not a scammer!
~~~
Rook: Ok, Harding, here you go. 40 gold, fair and square.
Harding: My fee’s gone up.
Rook: Seriously?
Harding: Lucanis’s contract negotiator is really good.
~~~
Rook: So the Dalish, are other elves allowed to just join?
Davrin: Don’t tell me you’re thinking about spending your days living in the woods and herding halla.
Rook: Gods, no. I just knew someone who would’ve liked it a lot, I think.
Davrin: Most clans are pretty accepting of city elves who wanted to go back to the old ways. Not sure what the stance is now that our gods are trying to kill everything in sight.
Rook: Right, almost forgot about that.
~~~
Davrin: So why didn’t your friend go to any nearby clans? There are clans in Rivain, right?
Rook: Only a handful. And nowhere near where I grew up. My mother and I were along the coast, so there wasn’t really a forest to wander around in. She always wanted to visit one, though. Learn more about our heritage and all that.
Davrin: Not much of a heritage left nowadays.
Rook: Before or after our gods turned out to be the worst?
Davrin: I’ll let you know when I decide.
~~~
Rook: You know, just once I’d like to come to Dock Town without there being a corpse involved. Or at least a limit. Can we limit it to three corpses maximum next time?
Neve: You said you wanted the full tour.
Rook: I meant more along the lines of fried fish and stray cats and less blood magic and ritual sacrifice.
Neve: (laughs) Next time, I’ll make sure there are as few demons and blood magic as possible. Maybe we could actually enjoy The Cobbled Swan for a change.
Rook: It’s a date, Neve Gallus.
~~~
Neve: Rook, Dock Town’s my problem. You don’t have to keep coming here.
Rook: You’re not getting rid of me that easily, Gallus.
Neve: I meant with the slavery. The odds of you getting recognized are low, but…It can’t be easy coming back here after everything. I can keep you updated if you prefer.
Rook: There are people here exactly like me who are in chains because of their ears or their status or because they can’t use magic. I got out because I got lucky. I can’t leave them behind.
Neve: If we survive this, I’ll have a talk with Ashur. The Shadow Dragons could really use someone like you.
~~~
Emmrich: Rook, I had no idea you were so interested in ancient Nevarran burial rites!
Rook: Beg pardon?
Emmrich: Back at Blackthorne Manor, I noticed you slipping a first edition copy of Nevarran Burials and Customs into your pack. Had I known you had an interest, I would’ve gladly lent you my copy.
Rook: Oh, right, yeah, real interesting read.
Emmrich: In the future, I would recommend against touching any tomes without proper preparation. Most Nevarran books that ancient have various anti-thieving wards.
Rook: Wait, really?
Emmrich: Certainly. Books on burial rites can often make the owner see horrific visions, should the book be acquired by less than legal means.
Rook: Good to know. Hey, not related, but there’s a merchant in the Hall who might have some questions about that.
Emmrich: Oh dear…
