no. emma wears socks with sandals and lightly bullies him
sekiro is fun because it has the first souls protag with an established personality and backstory, which allows us to have the first souls protag whose life fucking sucks for reasons completely unrelated to living in a souls game. ashina is beautiful but sekiro lives in his own personal hell. yeah, the fact that he can die from being hit with shit from a butt launched by a giant ape is because hes a souls protag, but he also gets hit by his dad a lot too. he doesnt get yummy estus soup, he has to drink medicine that is explicitly stated to taste and smell bad, and the way he levels them up is by focusing on how shit it tastes and smells. worry not, tho! he can follow it up with delicious handfuls of loose, uncooked rice. he can speak for himself in non-plot essential conversations, which means the player doesnt even have to touch the controller for him to fumble a bad bitch! literally the first npc conversation you can overhear is people calling him pathetic. the game starts with him #girlrotting in a hole he could easily escape but doesnt care enough to do so. hes an orphan of war. his adoptive dad tried to kill him. truly he was born in a wet cardboard box all alone
#i DO love her tho#easily my fav level up maiden#she also doesnt level him up but thats because thats not much of a thing in this game#she'll upgrade the healing item she gave you tho! her grossies medicine#i appreciate that she does so much for the story but so little for you directly in comparison to other souls maidens#and yet shes the one you can give gifts to. because sekiro is nicies :)#and emma fucking bullies you for it#'oh hey thanks for the sake :) lemme tell you a story about a shinobi i met who annoyed me with his dogshit communication skills'#thank you emma

I need a moment to yell about what a tragic and interesting character Emma is.
Yes, she's been placed in a stereotypically female role as the healer and the guide for the male protagonist. She's a doctor, a caregiver, yes, but there is so much more to her. She is integral to so much of the heartbreak in this story and not because she isn't trying. She just can't escape it.
She's not a fighter, but she has a sword, and the reason she learned how to use it is specifically because she is waiting for a man who means the world to her to turn into a demon so she can kill him.
The Sculptor rescued her from a battlefield when she was a small child and starving. He helped raise her and eventually placed her in Dogen's care.
She visits him often, she asks for his advice on some really difficult, delicate matters.
This is her father in all the ways that matter (and he's actually a good father compared to some other fathers in this story). She clearly respects and loves him.
And she also knows that he is turning into a demon and the only thing she can do about it is make sure she is ready to kill him when the time comes.
Her relationship with Isshin is also tied up in this. Isshin is her lord. He is also her teacher, since he is the one who trained her in swordsmanship.
Isshin's skill with the sword is so fabled they call him the Sword Saint. This guy lives to swordfight. His greatest achievement (according to him) isn't killing a tyrant and freeing his country, it's developing his own fighting style and never stopped trying to improve it (and handing out pamphlets about it).
That's the guy Emma got to train her.
Isshin got a tutor to train his beloved grandson (as is proper), but he trained Emma himself and it doesn't come as a surprise once you learn that Isshin was the one who stopped the Sculptor from turning into Shura before.
Emma must have told him.
Imagine Emma asking Isshin to train her in swordsmanship. Isshin, who fought Shura and lived, must have looked at this small, waifish woman and asked her why. And then he ended up teaching her anyway.
Specifically so she can kill a demon.
(And the beautiful thing about this, in terms of Sekiro being a video game, is that this is not just something we're informed of, but it's reflected in the actual gameplay. If you end up fighting her, Emma's moveset is a slimmed down, slightly less reactive version of Grandpa Isshin's. She has the same perilous attacks (including the same grab), she has Ashina cross, she does that little slash if you stick too close.
Conversely, Genichiro, despite being Isshin's heir, fights nothing like his grandfather. Because he was taught by Tomoe. Actually, the way fighting styles are used for characterisation is another thing that has me raving about this game. Like the fact that Owl is the only enemy in the entire game who can perform a Mikiri counter...).
However, Isshin isn't just her lord and her teacher. He also dresses up as a mythological figure to hunt down spies and those of his grandson's allies he doesn't approve of in his castle. Emma knows this. Isshin knows Emma knows this and she gets away with teasing her about it. They have a cute, friendly relationship.
But more importantly, Isshin is also her patient and they both know he's dying.
There's this inevitableness about all of Emma's relationships. See also Genichiro: Emma and he were childhood friends. They used to hang out with Takeru and Tomoe by the sakura tree. If you share enough sake with her she'll tell you about how she used to sneak out of the castle to watch Genichiro pratice Tomoe's Lightning (and did Genichiro taking his shirt off when he does that move have anything to do with that?)
But she's spending enough time with Isshin to know that Genichiro's days, too, are numbered. And there's that sad memory in which she tells Kuro about the sediment and how people who use it lose their humanity bit by bit.
Oh, and since I mentioned Tomoe ... if you pursue the Purification route, you find out that Emma saw Tomoe attempt Purification (which only failed because she didn't have the Mortal Blade). Emma saw Tomoe, presumably her friend, attempt suicide. To spare Takeru.
And then there's Wolf and Kuro. Who not only act as a catalyst for the Genichiro situation to finally turn to shit. She also soon realises that Wolf and Kuro find themselves in the same bind as Takeru and Tomoe.
And with the knowledge that at least one of them has to die, one of them a small child, she chooses to let the child die and save the man. Witholding the information on how to attempt Purification is one of very few choices Emma actually gets to make in this story. Everything else is ripped from her control (Sculptor's condition, Isshin's condition, Genichiro's condition, the situation the entire country is in). And it's such an interesting choice to make for her.
There's this child, who is convinced that the only way to end the curse of immortality is for him to have his head cut off with a magic sword. And her choice is whether or not to tell the depressed Shinobi looking after this boy that there's an option for the child to live but it requires the Shinobi to cut his own head off instead.
And she chooses to say nothing.
She's making her decision and in doing so, she's effectively taking the choice away from Wolf. And it eventually leads to even more heartbreak, because if you actually make Wolf kill Kuro, Wolf is miserable for the rest of his days, taking the place of the Sculptor and set to eventually turn into a demon himself.
And that's so interesting.
And every day I'm cursing the gaming gods because Fromsoft hasn't made more story games like this.
Break my heart again, I can take it.
#emma the gentle blade#isshin ashina#genichiro asshina#sekiro#sekiro: shadows die twice#i just feel so sorry for emma#there's no easy choices in this story#honestly tho letting kuro die is the worst ending tho who does that???#the fact that this is the standard ending what sadists#forever crying that from doesn't make more story games like this#break my heart again i can take it#sekiro spoilers

can we see some of your favorite graphite works you've done?
Oh! Absolutely!
I’ll be honest, I just cracked open my sketchbook and pulled out what was the most presentable. None of this is, like, my official stuff that I did for my classes, because: While proof of skill, those works to me feel boring and hollow
Here’s the good stuff, pulp included

In order we have:
Mae Borowski! Had an idea for the longest time of making a sorta prequel series of art before Night In the Woods. Around the time of the Longest Night spin-off/minigame thing. Art got scrapped, but the college varsity jacket stayed in my brain.
Catgirl adventurer OC. Also never made it past concept. I had this whole magic system set up that I was pretty proud of. And if I’m honest, still holding on to 😅. Short version is this, Health level = magic cap. Magic level = stamina cap. Lose health and all your stats suffer.
The Spot. I just think this one’s sick
Fiona Windsor. An old D&D character. If you’re confused about the name, uhhhhhhhhhhhh… So I ended up choosing my name, like, a month ago? In spite of the fact that I’ve known I was trans for 7 years. Without knowing it, playing that character was like a beta test
Minecraft OC. Friendly shinobi, VERY sekiro inspired. Sadly the server I was playing on shut down RIGHT BEFORE WE GOT CHERRY TREES AND BAMBOO WOOD. AGH!!
Brisket :3
Fenic! The main character of a comic that I hold very dear to my heart, called Goodbye to Halos. If you haven’t read it yet, then you have one task for today.
My Sibling’s OC. We do “Art swaps” every now and then where we give eachother OCs and try to learn eachother’s styles. It’s a fascinating process because I am very cartoon brained, and they’re an art god amongst mortals.
My old PFP, :D
Art I did for one of my D&D players. Mad scientist artificer/blood hunter. His bastion hireling is a robot named Siri, and whenever we run a hireling-centered session, everybody’s phones go off, it’s great

I think the reason why switching parts around every time you fail a boss in AC6 is fun for me instead of disheartening or tedious as it could have potentially been is that there’s just enough variety in the parts you can have that you can honestly tweak yourself to such a degree that you can pin point any given deficiency in your previous attempt and directly address it, instead of just going “uh, maybe this weapon will do more damage?” that I sometimes found myself doing in older Fromsoft games.
Instead its more like “oh damn it, fine let’s see...alright so his stray shots kept hitting me so i need to be faster so let’s bump up boost speed...energy weapons aren’t doing dick so lets focus on good ol’ bullets for a bit...most of the attacks go low so maybe go Tetrapod so fly over? eh, worth a shot...” And so on.
It really does feel like you’re sticking your head into your AC and tinkering with the insides, everything about this game just feels so right and connected and I can’t stop playing this damn game. Last time Fromsoft hooked me like this was with Sekiro.
Also I spent like 10 minutes painting my mech to look like a dragon with red accents on the weapons to make it look like fire/wings and I just don’t ever spend this much time on customization in games I usually don’t give enough of a damn to get that invested but this this stupid wonderful robot game got me painting my fucking miniuture
anyway try AC6, its great

O Hedge, who is also deep in the Sekiro brain rot. Please let me tell you about my favorite joke(?) in the whole game. Bc I've never seen anyone else mention it and you're the only blog I follow that is actively Sekirotting.
Sekiro is occasionally a teen comedy. And it absolutely kills me every single time I get to the dialogue where Kuro talks about Takeru and uses the exact words 'long ago'. Of course, then the game goes on and you find out that all of that shitt happened not only within living memory, but living memory of people who are probably like. Mid-30's? 40ish tops??
.
Kuro: Waow! Did u know, there was once another Divine Heir living here?
K: But that was a long time ago! I wonder what things were like back then. Wolf! Check out this sweet incense burner he left us.
K: His name was Takeru!
K: and he had a retainer named Tomoe.
K: Oh it was soooo loooooong ago! Waow such ancient history. Better go look through all of these dusty old records for more information because all of this happened ONE MILLION YEARS AGO.
Genichiro and Emma:[teeth grinding noises can Almost be heard over the combined childhood PTSD flashbacks]
Wolf: hmm. does feeling like I just aged 100 years qualify me for my old man yaoi card yet?
WHEHDHDHJDJSHSHAHAHAHAHAH NO U ARE SO RIGHT! U think it’s all ancient history but it’s in recent goddamn memory. No wonder everyone looks so fucking haggard (we’re ignoring the war for this second)
Also also! If u mention Sekiro it’ll trigger a sleeper agent effect in me. I’m always ready to talk about that dumb (beloved, beautiful) game

AU where instead of the Knight of Saint Trina, we get to the bottom of the crevasse and there's a sleeping dragon. Not only is it asleep, but it's overgrown, dripping with moss and lichen, half-sunk in the purple mire.
It's impossible to say what happened, why it's here. If it's guarding something. It's just... asleep. And surrounded by the bodies of other sleeping creatures.
You have three options.
One: sit down next to the dragon and pass out too. You get brief, confusing visions- someplace a little like the Haligtree, but off, saturated in lilac, and full of memories. Think the Sekiro memories where you go back and fight through/relive some things, except this is disjointed fragments of Miquella's memories that answer as much as they don't. And eventually they stop coming.
Two: Attack it or the surrounding mobs. Dragon doesn't wake up and seems to be constantly healing. The mobs wake up and die though.
Three: Attack it with holy damage/one of Miquella's spells, or maybe use his rune gesture. Dragon wakes up, the mobs wake up in waves, and oh dear god the dragon isn't just overgrown, it's potentially being piloted by flower vines like a horrifying flesh mech puppet.
Saint Trina cannot truly live alone. She doesn't just need to be protected- she needs to heal, be fed, hosted. She's still gentle. She cares, truly and deeply. But for lack of options, for lack of her partner, she will make do.
She's growing out of the hollow place where the dragon's heart should be.

Higurashi When They Cry Hou in 2009 Ch. 8 Matsuribayashi pt. 98
This doesn’t really have anything to do with anything but where do you draw the line on calling something a figure? I’m not even debating it from the angle of it being an action figure where you can pose it, what I really mean is do you consider things that come with a stand a figure or not? I don’t want to refer to this Miyo Takano figure as a statue, but it kind of is, you know? Only it’s a plastic thing sitting on my desk now, and not a big thing made out of granite or marble. This has no bearing on anything, but maybe I’ll put her next to either John Sekiro, or the Doom Slayer.
You know, this is something that never occurred to me before now. Why is it that Satoko never scratched her neck up like everyone else who was shown to be terminal? I’m sure it was probably just an oversight, but I’m kind of using this as a way to push my Takano is infected with Hinamizawa Syndrome and going terminal narrative.
I think this is just reflective about the prevailing attitudes of the era. It does seem like medical shows have more or less stepped away from using the phrase vegetable when it comes to accidentally destroying a patients brain. I’m sure there’s a proper medical term for it, but I am drawing a blank. Oh it's bugging me now, trying to remember what phrase they use for when someone's in a vegetative state.
I don’t recall if it showed up on the PS2 mod of the 2009 Higurashi but I find the little detail of the kanji being visible on the fragments to be pretty neat.
I knew there was a reason I took this screenshot, aside from my love of boner jokes. This shows that back in 2009 Rena’s noise was depicted as “hao” and not “hau.” I wonder if this change was to keep it more in line with the fan translations of the manga and anime?
I doubt the console arcs will get into it, but I wonder how it was their wanderings led Hanyu’s people to Onigafuchi? Did they bring the parasite that causes Hinamizawa Syndrome with them, and that’s why the people of Onigafuchi became “consumed by demons?” They must have right? The way the text portrays it, everything was just ducky until Hanyu and her people showed up, and again I have to wonder how did they look? Were they just in a demonic form until Hanyu was chosen to represent them and was able to become the Hanyu we know? I think it would be kind of neat if one of the arcs I haven’t read had a depiction of how Hanyu’s people used to look.
Also, it only took eight or nine readings of this scene for it to hit me that the son of the Furude priest was a bit of a freak. He saw this demonic being and chin, firmly in-between thumb and forefinger bit his lip and went “would.” Do you think like most monster fuckers he saw Hanyu become a more human version of herself and went “maaaaaan?” Do you think that’s why he never shows up again, he lost his desire when she became just a horned girl?
Another thing that just occurred to me is that there’s never really any reason given for why Hanyu started getting referred to as Oyashiro-sama. I think maybe they start calling her Oyashiro-sama to try to cover up the fact that people were falling in love and having children with “demons,” but I don’t recall if that’s a thing they actually said at any point in this chapter. I know they’re playing up the importance of the Furude bloodline being tied to Oyashiro-sama, but do you think any of the other people who wound up having horned children are similarly gifted? This is entirely a theory I’m pulling out of nowhere, but is this why the Three Families of Hinamizawa are so important? Did the Kimiyoshi, and Sonozaki ancestors also have affairs with demons and that’s why they’re some of the more important people in the village? That would help justify why the Sonozakis tattoo the next head of the family other than the notion to keep track of which twin is which anyway. Is Shion, and Natsumi Kimiyoshi in a similar situation with their respective demonic forebear? Is that why Shion during Meakashi had an otherworldly figure around to pester her during the final parts of that chapter? I think I’m on to something here. Please do not spoil the console arcs, I am very early in Someutsushi.

Hey there again. Not too long time, this time.
Today I'm gonna talk about DLC of Elden Ring. In particular, about "progression".
It's no secret that the developers decided to "equalize" players within the expansion. Subjectively, for me, they did a poor job of it. In any case, a player at level 20 and 220 will differ greatly in damage and survivability. With the help of scadutree pieces, they only got rid of the survivability problem. And the further into the forest, the worse their solution works. As a result, the gap in damage and survivability becomes even greater.
In my opinion, this problem could not be solved adequately in any case. The only solution that comes to mind is to adapt the level to Mogh and only then build on this base.
Then I could have gone for something more fun. And now I'll probably be torn to pieces. But since I've started, I think I'll have to push until the end. Namely, the game should have introduced a "skill tree". More precisely, not like that.. I'll explain now.
In the game we can take great runes and activate them, receiving certain abilities. We also know that pieces of great runes can be recreated independently. For example, as "sidequest characters" did to add their runes to the main one. And Radagon made his own rune and introduced it into Elden Ring.
Now the question is. If they can create rune pieces and even enter them into Elden Ring, what's stopping US from making our own rune, opening up a new ending (which was kind of promised) and, more importantly, creating our own gameplay backbones?
Yes, of course. Fiya, the Eater, the Golden Mask created their runes for a long time, perhaps they were not quite perfect. But who said that runes could be created from scratch?
And now I come to my thought. Why couldn't we find "rune blanks" of those who wanted to change Elden Ring but died tragically instead of Scadutree pieces?
At the same time, yes, it will be difficult to come up with 20 gameplay innovations. But why not add, for example, 4 and make the remaining pieces of runes an appendage for the main 4 and leave a couple of pieces for the general growth of the character?
Thus, it would be possible to develop the gameplay in different directions.
Instead of a tear for the Sekiro mode, it would be possible to get a separate rune for this matter with targeted buffs.
Or make the air battle not a circus of jumps, but a full-fledged combat mode with jumps in the air like Torrent, while with a successful attack get an additional step in the air (yes, I stole this from ff15).
What about the "Rune of Mastery", which will allow you to develop simple ashes of war and return them to the functionality that was in previous games.
Is it even possible to make a "Pacifist Rune" where the main playstyle is aimed at supporting summoned creatures/players. With the possibility of even saving a comrade from capture.
You will say that these are not souls anymore? Well... in that case the genre really only awaits stagnation and degradation (which is already visible in ER). The genre needs to raise and since now we have something new, we can at least start from this. Like the man-made Great Runes in ER.
But still, what can such an approach lead to? It's simple, the development of bosses in mechanics, and not just dueling. Twin Booba Princess? Works well against air combat and puts pressure on the player with skill. Lion? He already flies and it would be cool to have fun with him in the air. Mesmer? Oh, he's the face of the DLC, he could test you in all directions.
Raddahn? Phew.. well. As for me, they screwed up with Raddan. But what we have is what we have. He can become the strongest test for new mechanics. Parrying?Be kind enough to be on guard, because in addition to normal attacks, he can have "guardbreaks". Are you always on the fly? Don't forget, he is a master of gravity magic, he will knock you down just like birds with a simple Gravitas. Oh, you are a master of all skills? So Raddahn, in fact, defeated Malenia. What? So you are a support that supports your comrades? Well, don't forget that he is not alone either and Mikella can turn your friends against you.
But if you can think of something much better, you are always free to tell it. I would be interested to read it.

i only know very vague things about the ER dlc from skimming tvtropes and glancing at twitter and looking up some music and cutscenes, but here's my takeaways so far, mostly about Best Worst Boy
miquella in the running for one of the best soulsborne characters ever oh my GOD i love his whole everything. what a fun fascinating fucked up lil guy. what a good year for beautiful awful well-intentioned extremists and their plans for utopia. it's impossible to say whether he's a Good person or Bad person but you can't deny he does both good and bad. at the very least his intentions and goals come from a good place but his methods and values are uhhhhhhhhh something else. i love it!
i'm seeing people very upset that the version of miq they had in their heads is ruined forever so they're gonna ignore canon and like. sorry i guess! but the foundations for what he's really like were always there, and the new revelations about his actions are interesting and also in line
miq and malenia's relationship isn't any less valuable and malenia isn't any less badass ok? ok. calm down lol
enjoyers of pure and helpless miq who makes for a pretty victim or damsel in distress can still keep that image, because, hey, playing that role was also within his plans, it seems! He Has The Range!
also it's not a bad thing that we see a physically older/more mature version of miq! that's a win-win tbfh! and has some fascinating implications to me, from an outside perspective without all the info--did he find a way to break his curse, even if only temporarily?? is it tied to him nearly entirely reaching godhood?? i think it's neat and he looks gorgeous! it's not like everybody's gotta throw all their fanart away now, again, calm down
mohg isn't instantly some innocent victim in all this nowwwwww aaaaaaaaaaa he was still a really fucked up dude, and idk if we even know exactly how deep miq's charms over him went, maybe miq took advantage of some feelings or urges that were already there, maybe mohg's preexisting traits and personality made him do even more things than what miq himself was expecting, idk! there's room for interpretation and regardless he's still a fascinating monster of a guy, and i love having ansbach for perspective
this fucking family tree keeps getting BIGGER because so many fuckers got wiped from history because no one fucking gets along. it's so funny to me
i sure as shit wasn't expecting radahn to come back or be relevant in any way but yknow i do kinda dig it! he's a great and iconic character. yet i am seeing lots of complaints about that too lmao,, ER at its core was always based around and focused on That Big Goddamn Family so having things circle back around to figures already involved in things makes sense imo
but also GODWYN IS DEAD GODWYN IS VERY VERY DEAD GODWYN IS BEYOND DEAD i was hoping for some more info about him at the very least and maybe there's some i haven't heard about myself yet but holy shit ok he wasn't gonna have a physical appearance or be a boss or anything, but i'm seeing a ton of people disappointed that isn't exactly what happened
so what if things are messy and complicated and fucked up and squicky all over, welcome to soulsborne, like, idk what to tell you, i'm still so baffled by people who are shocked and appalled by dark or unusual content in elden ring and don't wanna talk about it or acknowledge it. where did yall come from???? did you play des or ds or bloodborne or even sekiro?? ? ?? ?????
i also saw some people complaining about the tragic/hopeless/depressing/upsetting quest or story parts and i'm so ???????????? seriously does no one realize what they're playing, why does this feel like an ER exclusive problem for from games?
music is great as ever i don't care what anyone says
messmer is cool as hell and super interesting and i can't wait to read up on him even more. i loooove his voice and just, how he looks and moves. he has a ton of personality and presence about him
leda what is wrong with you. i love you so much girl
happy pride month! 🥳
also i saw this phrase uttered along the way and i'm kind of obsessed with it lmao

I have never played a fromsoft game but as someone who is always very into lore and story I don't know how ds/bb/sekiro/er fans aren't just endlessly frustrated with their shtick, like I'll see a cool-looking character with an interesting quote attached and I'll be like 'oh I wonder what their story/deal is?'
and invariably I look it up and it's like 'Braun the Last Razor, he has a cursed(?) hat and many suspect he is the son of Rolodex, Castigator of Schedules, as the embroidery on his hat is similar' and then twenty people arguing this point in the comments
which is clearly not a case of 'oh you really have to look for the answers and the lore but it's there' - people solved PT in hours, souls fans are rabid, if the answers were there they'd be available on twenty wiki pages by now, period.
like I'm sorry but anyone can design a character to look cool and then instead of a backstory be like 'tee hee hee you lot figure it out'. that isnt master storytelling, that's just being annoying.

BEHOLD: an accurate retelling of Elden Ring
Ok so you wake up and fight
1. Old man with stick (only an apparition
2. An arm and a leg... And another arm and leg... Exponentially oh god and a dragon
3. Wrath of the stars (sleeby lady)
4. Large man who loves his horse (he's also a cannibal)
5. OH GOD SNEK AHHHHH
6. the actual blood god
7. Old man with stick returns (the stick is sharp and he is real)
8. Sir Rolls A lot
9. Sekiro boss that got lost
10. Tag team but you kill one and they come back and I hate both of you go to sleeeeep (attempted orenstien and smough)
11. DOG IN ARMOR
12. God of time has scales
13. "Well actually" the person
14. GIMME A HUG
15. This is why we say gingers don't have souls
16. Slug God.
This is an arbitrary list made from my own brain... 🙂
On this walk through hell you do things like burn this world's equivalent of the cross, marry a blue puppet, and kill god. You may also befriend a furry, Santa/Target/Kale, lady snake, and the prawn man. You get called bitchless by a surgeon that had their license revoked and then they show you god (of the bloody variety). Alternatively you can incinerate everything to save your friend but she hates you and wants you dead but WORTH! And through it all you got your horsy and Gatorade of the blue and red variety.
This is my favorite game.

So finally got around to watching the Ultrakill VOD, and I have to say, I was not expecting it to end with you fucking W+M1ing V2. I don't think I've ever been this simultaneously impressed and angry. Well done.
For what it's worth, and I don't know if this is something you've already had conversations about or thought about, but, I suspect part of the problem you were having was how consistently you were staying away from V2, and thus not being in range to heal. Between you moving around trying to avoid damage and V2 doing... well, the exact same thing, it's definitely pretty easy to wind up having that happen.
Right up until you went "fuck it" and ran in to start beating the shit out of that red fucker, anyway.
EHEHE NO ONE LIKED THAT ❤️ I hope the VOD was fun.
I think you’re right! Let me explain my logic for going in like that on V2: He was majorly chipping me out with shotgun pellets most of the time, and I was too far to heal. V2 also has that distance based enrage, so my first thought was “oh it enrages him because it puts him at a disadvantage for too long”, but when that clearly wasn’t working, the follow up thought was “Oh, I’m going about it wrong, the game is trying to tell me that staying far away is bad, and is punishing me for it, because I’ll get no healing, I have to go IN so I can damage and heal, I’ll look for the sound cues in order to know when to dash, and if I get hit, it’ll never be a OHKO so I can heal it out.”
So I started moving directly at V2 dashing whenever I heard a cue for an attack, and initially, I did plan to use the shotty and the nail gun, but… The revolver was just working out so well that I thought “man it’ll be probably be hilarious if I just only use the revolver” so I committed to the bit. I played it like a Dark Souls boss, basically.
In hindsight, it makes a lot of sense and I think V2 is well designed: NONE of my losses against V2 felt unfair or like I was cheated, and his enrage only really kicks in if you stay FAR away for a while, meaning you are only dealing damage with revolver potshots, MEANING you are laming it out and going against the game philosophy of being hyper aggressive and up close with enemies. Kinda like how Sekiro will punish you for, funnily enough for this context, playing it like Dark Souls.

Hii long anon, I went anonymous because I felt self conscious about writing a lot and I'm new to tumblr haha. I think I've been going kind of insane over the DLC, mostly because it's just so. disappointing? Elden Ring got me into Fromsoft, and I loved the world building, but with the DLC it feels so. broken? Just full on contrived and boring. Miquella feels secondary to the DLC. The twist feels like they chose it because people liked the one character. Even "Evil" Miq could've been cool
Elden Ring also got me into Fromsoftware. I tried dark souls 1 for a few hours but I couldn't get into it and the lore didn't seem interesting enough to me. I tried dark souls 2, and then 3, and then sekiro, and then armored core...
none of them clicked. then I played elden ring and I LOVED IT. it's still one of my fav games of all time no matter how bad SOTE may be. It is very disappointing in so many ways. It feels unpolished and empty at times in terms of gameplay, and the lore...oh the lore.
It feels like they went with this weird no hope grimdark path for the dlc which I really hate because if everything is so dark, why should I care in the first place? To add, its not even cool like frenzied flame or destined death. No, it's just this bland sandwich of storytelling that feels so...nothing? I can't remember the last time elden ring lore felt so boring.
I would've loved to see "evil" Miquella if they leaned into it, not this half baked attempt at making him morally grey with the bewitching stuff. The bewitchment stuff is very inconsistent imo.
If they were going with a "evil" Miquella they could've had a corrupted deathblight Miquella or something. It would include Godwyn and give us that corruption fight alot of the fanbase seems to want. Since the eclipse failed (which is then never mentioned again in SOTE), he could've been infected with the death curse, and then turn 100 percent evil and go crazy. That would've been much more fun and interesting then we got. Hell, we could've had a morally white good and nice boy Miquella and it would've been better. It would give that undertone of hope elden ring so desprately needed.
I just don't understand the whole "boring griffith" approach on Miquella. He feels like a backround character in his own DLC, mind you. They couldn't even show us his face or full body. He barely shows up and only gets mentioned through his followers. I will admit I like how saint trina is written for the most part, even if I would've prefered a "evil" saint trina and "good" Miquella.
and there I go ranting about sote lore again, well whatever
