I understand foolproof foolhardy Anakin, I'm obsessed with Obi-Wan too 🤷‍♀️
literally everyone at the temple: hey dude are you ever gonna be normal about that kid obi-wan?
anakin: uh ok sure and then after i'll also become the worst flier in the jedi order and leave the order to follow my life's true passion to serve as campaign manager for the hutts. and then i'll find my birth father and tell him i love him. and then after that i'll confess undying love for master yoda and sweep him away to some backwater swamp planet where we can live out the rest of our lives in peaceful matrimony.
everyone at the temple: oh ok so the very idea about being normaal about ob-wan is ridiculous, offensive, impossible, and sickening to think about.
anakin: ITS RIDICULOUS OFFENSIVE IMPOSSIBLE AND SICKENING TO EVEN THINK ABOUT.
obi-wan: i don't understand he is normal about me?

Before this May the fourth is over, I had to find and reblog this post. I think about it sometimes and every time I do, it destroys me.
vader didn’t have to fly to a small, remote moon to look for the remains of one, insignificant jedi in the old wreck of a republic cruiser, but anakin—oh, but anakin needed to.

i think possibly my favorite anakinism and one i think about a rather unhealthy amount is his body language and how he almost always looks viscerally uncomfortable and vaguely like a child who is scared of getting slapped. even when he’s being confrontational he looks sooo defensive like wow girl you have never fully processed anything that’s happened to you and you will carry the weight of it forever

Broke: Anakin doesn't have any jedi friends his own age because he didn't fit in/Palpatine isolated him
Woke: Anakin doesn't have any jedi friends his own age because all his classmates keep trying to sleep with his Master and it's driving him crazy. If ONE more person asks him for Obi-Wan’s number he's gonna scream.
Ahsoka: Skyguy! Did you know the senior padawans put out a yearbook?? You'll never guess who won MILF (Master I'd Like To Fuck) of the year!!!
Anakin, not looking up: It’s Obi-Wan.
Ahsoka: ...huh did you already see it?
Anakin, with a thousand yard stare: It's always Obi-Wan. It's been Obi-Wan for the last 10 years Snips.

Ah yes the old saying: do or do not and definitely don't do it like Skywalker.

im reading about the Jedi Code on wookieepedia and the way its written is SO FUNNY. Mace Windu clearly takes detailed notes during every Council meeting and has this ready on a pre-prepared powerpoint slideshow for whenever he has to deliver a lecture on the Code

look me in the eye and tell me this isn't one of the coolest shots in any star wars tv episode. and don't even get me started on when his voice overlapped with Vader's-

okay but like space jesus baby anakin declaring 'you can't kill a jedi' and the force is like 'oh shit fr? guess that's how it is now'
so jedi just. stop dying. they're confused but maybe okay with it? like some of the older ones still die of old age but when they're out fighting somehow they always make it through
palpatine is furious. he knows what's going on and tries to convince anakin that jedi CAN die, look at all these past instances, but anakin just looks at him like he's crazy 'okay but none of the jedi I'VE met ever die'
and palps is desperately trying to prove that jedi can die by actually killing jedi but like. no. they can't die. all his attempts to kill them fail.
and anakin is a nine year old child going 'well if i've never seen it happen then obviously it's not true'
10-year plan to wipe out the jedi foiled by one (1) overpowered boy confidently deciding that jedi can't die, seeing that jedi never die growing up, and thus continuing to believe that jedi cannot die even when there's a war on and jedi should DEFINITELY be dying
palpatine has time scheduled every night just so he can scream into the void in frustration

Palpatine: My boy, Master Kenobi is lying to you!
Anakin: ?...yeah? He does that? Lying is Obi-Wan's favourite sport. Bant told me that he was dropped on his head by Master Qui-Gon when he was a child and Master Qui-Gon was really tall, so the fall shook loose some things in his brain and now Obi-Wan is allergic to giving straight answers. It took me 3 years to figure out his favourite colour. and his birthday. 5 to figure out that he's allergic to shellfish. I once told a restaurant that Obi-Wan can't have shrimp and he told me to "stop giving information to the enemy". I've made a game of it really.
Palpatine: *muttering under his breath* ok try using shrimp next time
Anakin: what?
Palpatine: Nothing!

I agree with this!! But sort of on the flipside, I wanted to talk a little bit about Anakin's selfishness. I think he would have always had trouble succeeding in the world Qui-Gon was prepared to raise him in because he was being removed from a world where all he truly had was the unconditional love of his mother. In an attempt to sever his already formed attachments, the Order expected him to not only live a life away from her, but to also leave her enslaved and alone. It is an unlogical thought to expect a child to love something that took him away from love; he was always going to internalize that. He was neither old enough to make that decision for himself nor young enough for the consequences to be insignificant, which I believe is the main reason the High Council found Qui-Gon's decision unwise.
Padmé wasn't a replacement, per sé, but it was a love outside of the Order; a representation of something they stole from him, back when he was too young to realize the gravity of Qui-Gon's offer. Romantic love may not be a necessity in life, but it was a comfort for Anakin. A sense of belonging, such that he hadn't felt in years.
If the Council had made any form of reasonable accommodation for him--even so far as to buy Shmi's freedom! Even if they could not see one another again!--then it would not have felt like such a betrayal or sleight to Anakin who, mind you, was always destined to have trouble belonging in their world. Perhaps Palpatine would not have been able to dig his claws so deeply into Anakin; because let's face it, whether or not we believe Shmi's death to be the fault of the Jedi, we know that Anakin embodied it as such. All those what-ifs running through his head as he held his dead mother in his arms... what person in Anakin's exact circumstances (groomed by the darkside, stolen from his home, ostracized in the Order) wouldn't blame the Jedi?
The council's blatant lack of compassion toward Anakin's unique situation, I believe, was one their greatest downfalls.
To Anakin, the Order (and Obi-Wan)--who had kept him from his mother and did not heed any warnings about her impending death--would just as readily allow the only other person he loved to die. That, on top of his feeling of Otherness and the constant disapproval from superiors and the expectation of rapid maturation, the deaths he was forced to witness and cause in the war, the continued whispers of encouragement from Palpatine... well.
All that being said, I want to reestablish that I do not think any of this excuses Anakin's actions and I also greatly admire the Jedi Order and what it stood for---I just think that, ultimately, Anakin was not made to grow up in it.
one thing i love about star wars is that the jedi are monks with dangerous psychic space magic, and so they're monks on purpose. they're joyfully and intentionally participating in their institution and finding meaning and happiness in life as monks—anakin is the exception that proves the rule!
it makes me happy to see as many people in the world live like this, and are quite happy with rich, full lives in fellowship with their fellow monks, practicing the tenets of their philosophies, studying the world and themselves, handing down their traditions and wisdom, always helping others; this is such a valid and good way to live, not any kind of oppression.
if anakin had been less selfish, if he had internalized and practiced the jedi philosophy of moderation and compassion, he could have had a rich, happy life (if only he lived in an age without the malice and menace of the sith!) and that's the root of his tragedy that he turned away from those bonds and generous purpose toward his own private pleasure.
it's not easy to practice discipline, but it's so worth it, both for you and everyone whose lives you can touch. it bothers me when i see comments openly and offensively denigrating all organized living; the individualistic amatonormative anti-religion biases of sw fandom are unfortunately on almost continual display. not all religions and religious organizations are abusive and controlling!
i believe from the bottom of my aromantic heart that one don't need romantic love and a nuclear family to be a full human being with a good life. these monks follow their philosophy of moderation and discipline in fellowship with their monastic fellows on purpose and by choice so they can serve the galaxy, and this is such a commendable life full of meaning and love.
the tragedy of their genocide is visible in how that force of generosity and hope for the galaxy was wiped away, for the violent enforcement of a brutal era of exploitation and greed. when luke restores the order and the jedi return, that form of joy in service and endless compassion is returned too. it's a beautiful thing that continually inspires me to live a better and more moderate and generous life.

I think even funnier than Anakin being a Big War Hero is if he was like. The Temple’s resident tech guy. Cal or Kanan find out who Darth Vader is and they’re like ‘the guy who reset my password???’
