#ran out of tags on the other post but I've got so manynof these#was best friends with a pair of roommates who became so intensely codependent that they both had breakdowns when the other studied abroad#a guy who had siblings regularly terrorized my friend who also had siblings with the corpse of a roachnfor over a year (roommates)#ive known ONE situation where the only chold terrorized an apartment of sibling people. but that's because they were all poc and she was#insanely racist. like so racist that MY little pale jewish ass got weird vibes from her on first contact#learned some good lessons from roommates but none of them are things I'd be able to explain to a kid#except maybe 'if you get the feeling someone's mad at you all the time but won't tell you for some reason just move out'#oh! my friend had a partner who was a terror of a roommate. as in she psychologically terrorized my friend and their roommates#once listened in on a convo that went 'i shouldnt have to warn people I'm walking into an apartment I PAY FOR just because they want a date#oh also @ my niblings sometimes situations are unwinable before you even get there. sometimes people just make up their minds about you#and you just gotta deal with the consequences of that decision. if you're in an unwinnable social situation just hit the bricks#you can't fix something that isn't functionally broken and it puts you in situations where every choice is wrong#living with people who grew up with fucked up sibling relationships created a lot of '0 good dialogue options' situations#cant leave the living room because then they asked for something and got it and that's shameful. can't sit in the living room. they want it.#again i could have been a way better roommate. for a multitude of reasons some under my control some not. but lord in heaven#but having siblings does NOT socialize you to live with other adults i hate that myth every situation I've lived in has proved it wrong#NONE OF US had any clue how to live with people who weren't our relatives#and this will happen to you. you will move out and realize the extent of your habits cause most people's parents just tolerate stuff#or your parents just got used to things that would drive other adults insane and they don't notice the things you do cause they're your kid#(or they might have even taught you those habits/level of cleanliness themselves)#one dude at the boarding house got mad about being asked to have basic responsibility for his room. so he left it covered in trash#and when they went to clean it it was covered in a fine layer of mold on almost every surface. genuine biohazard scene#got hit with 'youre the only person i don't regret letting into my house' from the woman we paid rent to when i moved out#and I'm like gee the bar is in hell 😭

🦇 Triple Sec Book Review 🦇
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
❓ #QOTD What's your favorite drink (non-alcoholic or cocktail)? 🦇 Post-divorce, Mel is now a jaded bartender at Terror & Virtue; a swanky cocktail lounge in NYC that gives the bar staff little room for creativity. There, Mel meets Bebe; beautiful, funny, and all too enchanting. Oh, and Bebe's partner, Kade. Mel tries to put meeting the bubbly beauty out of her mind until Bebe makes a unique offer: she wants to take Mel on a date. So begins Mel's first steps into the polyamorous world, prompting Mel to open her long trampled-on heart. While Mel balances shifts and dates with Bebe, she contemplates entering a cocktail competition to turn the dream of opening her own bar into a reality. But what if it all becomes too much at once?
💜 So, TJ Alexander is now a new auto-buy, a new fave, a new literary love. There are some books you have to read for chapters and chapters before you fall into the voice, before you recognize the main character's tone and inflictions and moods. The essence of Mel, from that very page, is both familiar and foreign, as most bartenders are. That's what makes them easy to talk to. Alexander's word choice is easy and enthralling; a comfort. Each character lives off the page until they're telling the story alongside you, from Bebe's bubbly personality to Kade's soft stoicism. This book is so beautifully, unapologetically, and above all NATURALLY queer. It's as refreshing as the palomas Mel loves (hopefully, since I wouldn't know), smooth and citrusy, sparkling and fun. I'm sad that I had to reach the end, even though the story's ending quenched my thirst after a long drought of 'meh' reads.
💜 Alexander provides a healthy, comforting, realistic glimpse into the polyamorous world. Each amendment to the written agreement Mel and Bebe began with showed us Mel's development as she opened her heart a little bit more with each chapter. I adored Mel's reason that many people she already knew (including her own roommate and best friend) were in poly relationships. Even though it took Mel by surprise, the actual existence of these relationships was natural. Alexander provides so many small glimpses into this world, inviting readers to understand different dynamics and arrangements, but there are bigger themes at play that I wish we delved into more for Mel's sake. For example, the analogy that relationships are gardens we must tend to, less they wilt. While Mel decides to put more of an effort into her friendship with Daniel, we only see two small attempts (a brief conversation and her meeting Daniel's paramour).
💜 Mel's trip with Kade was everything, providing us with an opportunity to focus on Kade's microexpressions and inner workings. I honestly could have lived in that chapter far longer. Maybe we can get a prequel, with Kade and Bebe and Blue, from Kade's point of view? I understand too well, being the person who feels so, so much but doesn't always show it. The commentary on jealous, their reasoning behind Bebe calling them "wife," their reaction to Mel defending them when so many people misgendered them at the airport; everything. Kade's smallest gestures had the biggest impact, including their urging for Mel to TALK with them and Bebe instead of getting upset over a minor mistake. Communication is a big theme in this book, in the BEST way. Bebe and Kade urge Mel to process her thoughts and feelings, even when Mel tends to fight them. Again, a wonderful portrayal of a healthy relationship.
💙 As captivating as Alexander's voice and wordplay were, I feel like some moments were rushed through. We don't get much of a chance to linger on the development of the relationships, HOW the feelings came about, instead moving quickly from the first date to Mel's unexpected attachment to Bebe, then again from the snow trip to amending the agreement once to include Kade to eventually the final amendment. There was just a bit too much tell and not enough show for me. Also, can we get some of Mel's recipes, pretty please?
🦇 Recommended to fans of Casey McQuiston and Alexandria Bellefleur.

💬 Quotes ❝ "There’s a difference between feeling something and letting it consume you.” ❞ ❝ 'Just’ friends makes it sound like something lesser. Easier. I don’t think it is. It’s still a garden that needs tending, even if it’s growing something else. In some other season.” ❞ ❝ “Blue used all pronouns. They used to say it was the closest they could get to describing the infinite spirit inside them.” ❞ ❝ “You grow up, thinking, ‘If only I can find the one person I can be with for the rest of my life, if only I can get a house with a yard, as long as I am living the most normal, blameless life, then that will show ’em. You know? You think you have to tick all these boxes. That your relationship has to look a certain way. Even if you’re—no, especially if you’re queer. There’s so much pressure to do the right thing.” ❞ ❝ The boot shape of Italy stared back at her, reminding her of Pompeii. She had roots in a disaster zone; she’d been born into it. Maybe, instead of running from it, she could stand still, face the eruption, and embrace whatever came. ❞

𝐍𝐔𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑. ♘ 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐱 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫
pairing: dream x reader (dre™ my beloved)
warnings: light smut (i didn't completely write it out I'm sorry), a virgin reader, language, fwb kinda, mentions of sexual content
previous part: elevator
Tumblr media
After nearly two hours, the elevator began to buzz with life, hoisting up to the floor where Clay and Sapnap lived. The two of you had bonded in the dim, red elevator, coming out of the cramped room as friends when you had previously just been an odd mix of acquaintance and mutual. Sapnap stood in the threshold, an apologetic look on his face as he wrapped an arm around your shoulders.
You and Clay became nearly inseparable. You found yourself showing up at his apartment for him just as much as for Sapnap. There were even times when you’d text Sapnap to see if he was busy when your roommate would be trying to shove you out the door and he’d send Clay over instead. His presence always made it awkward for your roommate’s boyfriend and while you hated to admit it, it was hilarious.
“So, you do what kind of farming?” Clay asked from his spot beside you, leaning on the counter with his eyes zoning out to watch your hands as you cooked.
Her boyfriend---who the two of you often referred to as Ricky Fitts behind his back---sighed. He had explained his profession to Clay numerous times, but the manner in which he did it was so pretentious that Clay was addicted to picking at him for it. “It’s botanical gardening. Not farming,” he groaned. “In simple man’s terms, I curate a garden for plant research and help to diversify the plant species in the area.”
Clay nodded. “And how many strains of marijuana do you have in the span of, say, a year.”
“I’m not going over this with you again,” he nipped, making Clay look down in mock defeat.
He sighed longingly before straightening up. “Okay, fine. So, hypothetically speaking, how many strains.”
Ricky stared at him blankly and you knew if you looked up, you’d break character. “Don’t the two of you have somewhere to be? Like a cave or something?”
Clay let out a short laugh. “I’m free all night actually,” he spoke, smirking slightly. “Did you wanna check out a cave with me, baby?” Clay asked him, fluttering his eyelashes.
The two of you often rode the bus together; Clay's height mimicking a skyscraper over you to grab at the bar or handle above you and kneeing you in the butt just because you were short enough that he could. That would usually end in you elbowing him in the gut. When you were coming back from class was when you were a bit quieter usually, nearly falling asleep as you stood by him and then fighting off a blush when he would wrap an arm around you just to keep you balanced upright. When he had first ridden the bus, you had completely forgotten what had told him in the elevator.
Your fingers tightened around the pole attaching the overhead bus shelf to the ground, attempting to steady yourself as you stared out the window adjacent to you. The bus screeched to a halt, jolting you forward slightly. The sea of new people obstructed your view, namely a tall figure as he sidestepped through the crowd of people. You furrowed your brows, brushing your hand against Clay’s arm to capture his attention.
He removed his headphones after pretending not to recognize you. He greeted you and grabbed onto the bar you had commandeered, leaning on the bus wall beside you. “Don’t you have a car?” You asked, reaching out to lightly pull on the lanyard sticking out of his pocket.
He smirked, brushing your hand off. “It’s dangerous down there, careful,” he jeered, making you roll your eyes at his lude joke. “Is there something wrong with supporting local businesses?”
Your brows knitted together in disbelief. “We’re on a city bus, Dream.” He shrugged. You bit your lip slightly, your mind breaking off into another explanation. “You wouldn’t be stalking me, would you?” You baited, a ghost of a blush settling over his cheeks.
He reached forward to cover your mouth. “You ask too many questions.”
He moved closer to let someone have the seat beside him, his hand settling to the space just above yours as your sides threatened to touch. You bit back the idea that Clay was following you around, finding a silent pleasure in that fact. He would probably never admit it fully.
He towered over you as the bus swayed, you having to lean back slightly in order to talk to him. “So, are you gonna walk me to class too then, simp?” You mocked, making him shake his head.
He narrowed his eyes at you. “I’m not a simp, thanks,” he answered with a tinge of sarcasm in his voice. “And maybe I will.”
You crossed your legs, knees popping as you bent out of your previous position on the kitchen floor with your back pressed against one of the sink’s cabinet doors. Clay was on his back, shoulders emerged in that same cupboard as he messed with the sink. You handed him a tool that he vaguely asked for, your eyes lingering on his old high school shirt celebrating some kind of sports achievement.
You chewed the inside of your cheek. “Dream?” You got his attention, delaying your question. He hummed in acknowledgment. “How many people have you slept with?”
He was quiet for a moment. “Let me think,” he murmured, making you snicker. “Three.”
“You had to think about that?” You joshed.
He chuckled at your words. “Well, I mean. No one’s asked me what my body count is since like… I don’t know honestly.” He peeked out at you momentarily. “Why? You looking to be number four?” He jeered, a smirk brushing across his lips as you rolled your eyes.
You huffed sarcastically. “Yeah, you wish,” you mumbled, fighting not to blush.
“Maybe I do,” he stated plainly.
You opened your mouth to retort, but Sapnap walked in, peering down at his phone with an unbending concentration. Clay sat up beside you, flashing you a look before Sapnap began to speak. “I have a date. I just wanted you guys to know,” he stated before grabbing his coat off of one of the hooks. He finally looked up from his phone, lazily point a finger at the pair of you. “Don’t hook up. It’ll make it awkward for me and I’m not ready to deal with you guys being together yet.”
Clay laughed and your ears warmed, rolling your eyes as he left the two of you with his words.
After an hour, Sapnap’s words were blown to the wind as Clay’s fingers carded through your hair, his lips pressed against yours in some kind of heated passion to prove himself to you; that he was worthy of being with you in such an intimate way.
You weren’t hesitant, to say the least, and had even initiated the manner as the sun had begun to set. You had been sitting beside each other, lazily discussing your sex lives and lack-there-of.
“So, these three… Do you still keep in touch?” You asked him, watching as his green eyes searched yours for the reason behind your questions. The deep orange rays of the sunset peeked through the blinds to reflect against his blond hair.
He shook his head. “They were all me being stupid, basically. I didn’t really like any of them,” he admitted, making your stomach turn. “What about you? What’s your number?”
You shrugged. “Zero,” you snorted.
He raised his eyebrows slightly. “Oh, that’s right. I knew that,” he recounted as if he were remembering what you’d told him when the two of you were trapped in the elevator. “Um… Why?”
You shrugged again. “I’ve never trusted anyone enough.” He barely bit his lip, nodding in understanding. You cleared your throat. “It’s not that it’s a big deal to me or anything, I just… I’d like to feel safe during it, at least,” you clarified.
“It’s okay if it’s a big deal,” he stated. “It was important to me too at one point. I just…” he sighed. “I don’t know. I guess I got caught up in the pressure of losing it.”
You nodded, letting a breath of silence pass between the two of you. “Would you want to…” You looked away from him, biting back a grin at how stupid you were about to sound. “Would you want to take my virginity?”
He nearly giggled. “You feel safe with me?”
You snorted. “Yeah. I mean, I like you,” you answered, biting back a laugh. The air between you was mellow and easy. You had thrown your awkwardness out the window after Sapnap had left. “I mean, you’re one of my best friends, you know. But it’s just an offer.”
He grinned, a dusting of red settling in his cheeks from the pride he was beaming at you. “No, I want to. I just… I want you to be sure.”
You chewed on your bottom lip. “Yeah, I’m sure. But if it’s too much pressure and everything, like I get it.”
He chuckled. “Quit. I’m honored honestly.”
You laughed. “Okay, then do it,” you stated.
And there the two of you were, Clay’s breath warm against your skin as he knotted his fingers with yours, moaning as you ground your hips against his. You could tell he was holding back for your sake, being as gentle as he could and trying not to crush you under his massive frame.
When you had pictured losing your virginity in the past, you’d always thought your body would be urging you to be thinking of something else, racing with pure terror as your partner got themselves off to get it over with. But Clay’s hands were careful, slowly introducing you to different sensations and testing the waters for you. Your mind was only focused on the fact that Clay smelled like lavender; the scent lingering on his clothes and in his hair.
You slipped your hands under the hem of his shirt, before pulling it over his head. You hadn’t seen him naked before, but heat flushed to your cheeks at the view of him, even if he had pressed you into another kiss as soon as he had discarded his shirt. As he pressed a leg between yours, you moaned, fingers traveling along the length of his spine. His taste of bitter coffee and mint was becoming your new obsession as his tongue pressed into your mouth, grinding his hips against yours.
He leaned off of you to remove your shirt, every instinct telling you to cover back up, but he brushed it off, pressing his lips to yours again as his thumb gently brushed against your side. “Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone you’re hot,” he joked, making you giggle as he lightened the mood.
“You’re so charming,” you mocked, running your fingers into his hair as his lips pressed against your neck lovingly.
He chuckled. “Only when you’re around,” he answered, making you laugh again.
The next morning, you sat beside Clay at the breakfast table, the two of you chatting about a movie you were planning on seeing later in the day. Sapnap strolled in, eyeing you carefully with his lips pursed. You both looked up at him as if to motion for him to spit out whatever was bothering him.
Sapnap took to the chair on the other side of Clay after pouring himself a cup of coffee. “Okay, so am I supposed to pretend I didn’t see you sneaking out of Dream’s room this morning?” He gestured between the two of you. “And now you’re wearing each other’s hoodies.” Out of the corner of your eye, you watched Clay look down with a small “what?” whispering from his lips quietly. “I mean come on, that one was mine at one point,” he continued, his comments mainly directed at you.
You scoffed. “Am I supposed to pretend you didn’t come back until an hour ago and I know you don’t carry condoms?” You countered.
Clay let out a soft gasp. “Sapnap… safe sex.” At this point he was just the Sophoclean chorus; the peanut gallery.
Sapnap sent you a sarcastic grin, disregarding your statement. “Am I supposed to pretend like I didn’t tell you guys not to hook up and you did?” Clay sipped his drink at this. “I mean, look at you two!” He swatted his finger to point at where the two of your hands were joined together.
In reality, you weren’t even sure when Clay had grabbed your hand or even that you here holding onto him as well. “Am I supposed to pretend like you didn’t do that on purpose so we didn’t bother you for a few hours?” You shot back.
Sapnap’s mouth dramatically tilted, brows raised in shock. “A Few. Hours?”
You covered your mouth as Clay laughed beside you.

“Doll, can you tell me how this crazy coffee machine works?” John looks at your coffee machine, furrowing his brows. “That monster doesn’t want to give me my coffee.”
“Oh, you must push the red button, choose the coffee you want, press the blue button, and put a cup there,” you explain, pointing at your coffee machine. “Let me do this, you can check on the toast meanwhile.”
“I like your toaster, it leaves a nice pattern on the toast,” laughing John looks at your toast. “Is that a kitten or a dog?”
“That’s Hello Kitty, Mr. Winchester, “you tut. “It was a gift from my friend Charlie. She was in Japan and bought it for me.”
“It’s cute, somehow,” John tries. “I never saw a pink toaster. What else can it do?”
“Only toast,” shrugging you get the coffee ready. “What are you doing for work? We talked about everything but your job.”
“I own a garage,” he lies, hiding he owns more than one. “My sons and my best friend work with me. I like to get my hands dirty once in a while. Sadly, I’m busy doing paperwork most of the time.”
“Sounds interesting. I work part-time at a library and study economics,” you say, snatching the toast out of John’s hands. “I’m usually home till eleven and can prepare dinner for us. I made a list of what we will need this week. You can add what you like to eat. Maybe you want a sixpack of beer too.”
“Give me the list and I’ll check if you forgot something,” John watches you pour him a cup of coffee, smirking as you ask him how he likes his coffee. “Black, doll. Like my soul.”
You giggle at his comment, give your cocky new roommate a wink before you usher toward the living room. “I got time left to have breakfast and to load the washer before I go to the grocery store. Do you have dirty clothes?”
“Only my underwear and a shirt,” he grins, stepping inside the living room to lazily lean in the door frame. “I don’t know if you want to wash an old man’s boxers.”
“You’re not that old,” you stuff the toast into your mouth before you say something you might regret. Yes, John is elder than you thought when you talked to him on the phone but there is something about the man that makes your heart flutter.
“If you say so, doll,” John purrs the words, pushing off the door frame to sit next to you on the couch. “I’ll be out of your hair till six. Do you want to cook? I can grab a snack on my way if you don’t want to.”
“I got the day off, John. I will cook if you tell me what you like. Do you eat meat or are you vegan?”
“Fuck no,” John shudders, looking at you in disbelief. “I want meat. I love meat in any form, Y/N. Soft and juicy.” eyes glued to your thighs John licks his lips. “And I love to eat it too.”
“Mr. Winchester,” you gasp, slapping his chest. “Don’t say something like that.” giggling nervously you look up at John who grins wolfishly. He set his eyes on you and will be damned if he can’t sink his teeth into you sooner or later.
“It’s true, baby doll,” he husks, leaning closer. “I would kill for a steak or a good burger. How about I bring the wine?”
“I’m not into alcohol, but you can have some wine if you want to, John. I can put it on my list,” you say, glancing shyly at John.
“Nah, sweetie. You cook and take care of the groceries and I’ll bring the wine. Tell me how much I owe you for the food and groceries.”
Tumblr media
“Beer, toast, eggs, milk,” looking at your list you cross out what you got. “Charlie, I need steak and apples.”
“So, how’s it going with Johnny boy?” Charlie smirks when you giggle nervously. “Babe, give me the juicy details. It’s been a week now. Tell me if you already fucked.”
“Charlie!” you tut, looking around the store to make sure no one heard what your friend said. “I did not sleep with John. He’s my roommate, okay. I don’t think it’s a good idea to hit on him and,” you sigh deeply, “even if I wanted to flirt with him, I’m not his type. I saw the pictures of his girlfriend on his phone. She looked like a supermodel.”
“Y/N, you’re hot, smart, and sexy. Don’t underestimate your value. I can tell, that guy almost ate you alive when he picked you up.”
“No, he didn’t, Charlie. Now let’s get the rest from my list and forget about John for a while. He’s a nice guy but not interested.”
“I bet he wants to do dirty things to you,” rolling your eyes at the quirky redheads’ words you follow her silently toward the next shelf. “Do you have condoms?”
“CHARLIE!”
“What? Better safe than sorry, babe. We will buy you a package of condoms and lube. Maybe some booze to loosen you up a little,” Charlie exclaims.
“I don’t want to be drunk when I finally have sex for the first time. And again, I don’t think a man like John would ever show interest in me. I saw him look at the pictures of his ex-girlfriend just yesterday. Maybe he even moves out again.”
Tumblr media
“Doll, that smells amazing,” John licks his lips. His stomach grumbles and you laugh when he drops his jacket and bag to usher toward the table. “It looks even better.”
“I thought as you moved in and all we could celebrate a bit. I made steak, potatoes, and green beans. I got the beer for you and juice for me,” you explain, handing John a bottle of his favorite beer.
“Baby doll, that’s amazing,” John pecks your cheek, smirking when you don’t shy away. “Thank you, sweetie. That’s the best day since ages for me.”
“You’re welcome. I got you everything you put on the list too. I made space for your things in the fridge,” you explain where John can put his groceries and how much he must pay you for everything. “Let’s eat first, I don’t want the food to get cold.”
Tumblr media
“Let’s get back to the rules. We already talked about the rooms you can use and the costs but,” biting your lower lip you try to gather the courage to talk to John about the women he will bring home.
“I get it, doll,” John smirks, sitting on the couch next to you. “You want to know if and when I will bring women to your home.”
“It’s your home now too, John,” you stutter. “I don’t want you to feel like a guest and I’m not a prude. I know men have needs and that you will find a girl sooner or later.”
“I’m not looking for a girl right now. The disaster with Sharon was worse enough, Y/N,” John watches you nervously tug at your sweater. “Except you want to become my girl,” he smirks, leaning closer to brush his fingertips over your hand. “I wouldn’t mind.”
“If we want this to work out we need more rules. A man like you would never be interested in me, I get it, but that’s no reason to make fun of me, John,” watching you storm out of the living room, angrily wiping your eyes John sighs deeply.
“Doll, I didn’t want to make fun of you,” he grumbles. “You’re sexy, so goddamn cute and I like you.” whispering the words John curses himself for being too pushy.
Tumblr media
“Doll?” knocking on your door John sighs deeply. “Y/N, can I come in, sweetie. Listen, I’m sorry. If you get to know me better, you’ll know I’m flirty around pretty girls. I’m sorry if you got it wrong.”
“John, I’m not pretty,” you sniff, opening the door to your bedroom. “I know you try to be friendly and get in my good graces, but this is not necessary.”
“Y/N, this was not about getting in your good graces. You are a cute girl and I like you. Please let me make it up to you. How about I get us dessert and we watch a movie?”
“Oh-okay,” nodding you look at John who gives you a soft smile. “I like vanilla ice cream the most.”
“Vanilla, got it, sweetie. You can choose a movie while I get the ice cream. Do you want anything else?”
“Maybe some strawberry sauce,” you grin. “I like strawberries.”
“Noted, doll-“
Tumblr media
“How was work?” watching another movie, the one John chose, you prefer to look at your roommate. He wanted to watch a horror movie and now the girls scream in terror. “Anything new?”
“I worked on a car today,” John says. “Bobby, my partner said we are ready to buy another garage.”
“Oh, that’s great – I guess,” you shrug. “The library called today and told me I’ll get fewer hours. Sucks. I worked there for four years and now there is that new girl and she gets more hours.”
“I’m sorry to hear, doll. Why not looking for another job?” stopping the movie to talk to you John frowns. “Hey, don’t cry, Y/N.” he says softly when you choke out a sob.
“It’s just, I finally could pay for everything. With my job, the part you pay, and the money from Mr. Talbot I had enough money.”
“Money from Mr. Talbot?” John asks.
“I help him with his papers, bookkeeping and everything else and he pays me a few bucks. You know, he’s eighty and got no one to help him,” you explain. “He was a good friend of my granny.”
“You got experience in bookkeeping?” nodding you tell John about your talent with numbers and that you love to work for Mr. Talbot. “You know, I could need help at my office. How about you give me a hand and work part-time for me and my partner?”
“John, I don’t need your pity. We shouldn’t live and work together,” you’d like to work for John but mixing work and your private life is a bad idea in your opinion.
“Y/N, I offered you a job to have someone at my office I can trust with my papers. Let’s talk about it with my partner Bobby, you’ll like the old geezer. He’s not as charming as I am but a good guy.”
“You want me to work for you?”
“Sure, doll. Let’s watch the rest of the movie and tomorrow, you’ll come with me and we can talk to Bobby. I bet he’ll love you,” John grins, glancing at your cleavage. “Old geezer always had a thing for pretty girls like you…”

Miss girl...how would Evan's characters react to their gf getting drunk and kissing another girl😳 I can't get the thought out of my head. Also I hope you're well and thank you!!!💕
awh i love this so much! thank you terribly for this darling, i’ve missed you and i hope you’re holding up okay! 🖤
Let’s be honest, it was Tate getting you drunk in the first place. His human girlfriend deserves a Halloween to remember, so he accompanies you to your friend’s house party and promises to behave himself... but that doesn’t mean you have to. Purposefully keeping your eyes trained on your blonde mop top as you lock lips with your best friend, you can see the satisfied grin dancing across his cheeks as he folds his arms and leans back on the kitchen counter. He’s waiting patiently until you tire of your inebriated experiment before he clamps his hand around yours, weaves his free hand into your hair and sinks his lips into yours for quite possibly the deepest kiss he’s ever given you. Surfacing for air after what feels like an hour, Tate softly mutters in your ear. “Be honest with me babe, which one of us do you prefer?”
Meeting up with a former college roommate at a bar with Kit Walker in tow was never a recipe for a quiet night out. Instead, you find yourself passionately making out with your friend as if the years in between had never happened, to the point you almost forget you brought your handsome man with you. “Don’t let me interrupt you ladies,” Kit chuckles as he downs his drink when you return to explore her mouth with your tongue. Yanking at his shirt collar, Kit’s struggling to contain his excitement and his internal conflict leads him to lean in between you and clear his throat. “Unless you’d rather take this back home?”
Bless his heart, Jimmy can’t exactly contain his jealousy when he finds you knocking back drinks with a gorgeous new audience member, so he resigns himself to hiding in the shadows with his clawed fists clenched behind his back. It’s only when Amazon Eve spots his discomfort and talks him into action that he realises he needs to claim back his girl once and for all, so he bundles over to you both attached by the lips, pulls you apart and stands in between. “I— I apologise for the intrusion, ma’am,” he stutters at his competition for your affections, who senses his defensive stance and backs off. His attention spins to you, gulping as he registers the vexed expression staring back at him. “Look, I can’t do this any longer. I’m jealous, it should be me you’re making out with. Please, will you be my girl?”
James Patrick March, rather irreparably set in his traditional ideals, finds the thought of losing your attentions to another woman not only adulterous but a personal attack on his pride. Regardless of the fact his absence pursuing revenge on the Countess drove you to drinking with a hotel guest in her suite, playfully rolling around atop the sheets in an affair motivated entirely by his inconsiderate actions of late. However, this cry for attention was certainly heard by the suited moustachioed March who storms into the suite with a clatter, lunges over to pull you from on top of your accomplice and proceeds to slit her throat right in front of your eyes. “You see, my dear,” his attentions return to you as he wipes his blade clean with a monogrammed handkerchief before placing it on the tussled sheets and firing a hand up to curl around your windpipe. Drinking in your shocked expression, James smirks proudly. “You belong to me and nobody else. Have I made my possession of your worldly and eventual otherworldly soul abundantly clear, hummingbird? Or must I also murder you in cold blood to remain here by my side for eternity?”
You could swear Kai’s infamous blue curls turn a vibrant shade of envious green as he catches you making out with a female cult member that you’ve grown attached to over the course of the election, the only person you’d told about your interest in both men and women. For fear of the consequences, somewhat amazed at the instant sobriety and clear head that comes with being caught by your Divine Ruler, you pull away and rush to apologise, arms outstretched in mercy as you reach him. “Did I say you could stop?” He clicks his tongue in disapproval, a pout forming on his lips as he points back at your waiting partner. “Oh and just for the record,” Kai halts you with a hand clasped around yours. “I always knew you liked women too, by the way. A Divine Ruler knows these things.” His cheeky wink softens your terror. “Now go back and play, baby... it’ll be my turn later.”

secret relationship headcanon // m.m.
summary — being in a secret relationship with Marlene Mckinnon. artist!Marlene.
warnings — nightmares, details of nightmares such as a faceless darkness (Voldemort), mentions anxiety.
Tumblr media
Marlene was the best girlfriend you could as for, she was smart, attentive and your own personal comfort zone.
it was often that you would get overwhelmed as the talk of you-know-who would run ramped through a long game of telephone amongst the wizards.
knowing that you essentially knew nothing about the dark wizard scared you more than anything, you had a family and friends to protect.
Marlene was there for you when the nightmares started.
You shared a dorm at Hogwarts, and while your terrors weren’t loud enough to wake your sleeping dorm mates, Marlene was almost always awake.
Before you ever developed romantic feelings, Marlene was your so called “partner in crime”, your bestfriend with as much sass as you had.
So when she snuck in beside you in bed that first night, the flutters in your stomach were unfamiliar yet not entirely unwelcome.
It became almost a routine after that. Anytime you were having a bad night, Marlene would be there to gently wake you and hold you until your nerves settled.
She would whisper comforting words into your hair like, “S’alright sweetheart, it was only a dream.”
Your first kiss was shared only weeks after your first nightmare.
You sat alone with Marlene in the library, plagued by the fear of your last dream. You told her about them for the first time, in excruciating detail, the faceless dark wizard that spoke in tongues.
Her eyes were wide by the time you finished, her skin much paler as her lips formed a frown.
“Oh, Y/N,” She sighed, tugging you close to her, “I promise you I will never ever let anything happen to you, do you hear me?”
You nodded into her shoulder, relaxing as you inhaled her floral scent.
When she pulled back you noticed the color had returned to her face, and suddenly her lips were all you could focus on.
She was your best friend, and while before you hadn’t comprehended the feelings you would get late at night being held in her arms, you understood now: you loved her.
Marlene inched closer to you, her hand covered in paint splotches reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear.
“Can I kiss you?”
The moment the words left her lips you were overcome with the familiar feeling of flutters in your stomach.
You only nodded in response and she closed the gap between the two of you.
Marlene’s lips were softer than you had imagined, and kissing her was a dream that could’ve never lived up to the real thing.
She moved slowly, cupping your cheek in her hand she held you in place as her lips explored your own.
She sighed a breath of pleasure when your lips parted, feeling confident and allowing her to slip her tongue past your lips.
When she pulled away you chased her lips, and her soft giggle only left you wanting more than before.
“Easy, love, we are in the library after all.” She chuckled.
You were in an established relationship after that: holding hands under the table in class, snogging in empty classrooms and holding each other late at night.
it was your decision however to keep your relationship secret at first, you weren’t ready to face all the questions from your friends that would ultimately lead to you explaining your nightmares.
And to be honest, you and Marlene were perfectly happy living in your own world.
Lily was the first one to figure it out, it didn’t take long considering she’s incredibly perceptive and your roommate.
She noticed long before she brought it up, instead turning a blind eye once she saw how happy the two of you were.
She could understand why you weren’t upfront about it, the boys had extremely large mouths.
Remus was the next to notice. He caught the two of you rather close one night in the common room and pulled you aside after everyone went to bed.
One by one your friends figured it out, each of them more understanding than you could’ve hoped for.
They saw the way Marlene held your hand when your leg bounced with anxiety.
They saw the praise you showed Marlene for her artwork through kisses on the cheek and long lasting hugs.
Sometimes you would stay up with Marlene while she worked on a sketch, it helped her relax when she couldn’t fall asleep at night.
“Love, c‘mere.” She said to you once.
You arose from your place on your bed where you watched her, coming towards her as she opened her arms. You sighed happily as she pulled you into her lap.
“Everything alright?” You asked her softly.
She nodded and leaned down to rest her head on your shoulder, “It is now.”
You chucked softly, “Such a sap.”
Marlene giggled and dropped her quill, wrapping her arms around you from behind she clung to you like a koala.
“Are you sleepy, my love?” You lightly scratched her arm.
You felt her nod against your back and shook your head fondly.
Carefully, you rose from your spot in her lap, kissing her softly when she protested with a whine, and led her to your bed.
She cuddled up to you instantly, laying on top of you she nuzzled her head in the crook of your neck and placed a kiss to your skin before she fell asleep.
You were almost always touching one another: sitting in each other’s laps, playing with each other’s hair, holding hands not so discreetly.
It was only a matter of time before James found out and when he did — he was more ecstatic for the two of you than anyone else.

On Love
So as you know I made this uquiz with an open-ended question at the end, tell me something about love, and I’ve gotten the most wonderful responses! They range from descriptions of wonderful partners:
Lauren: oh, how long I went without being myself until I met him and he showed me who I truly was and that my worth was higher than I ever thought was possible
Levi: I love who we are with each other. I love who I am with you. In your company I am me. In your company I am the best of me. The best with the best, I've told you. I wouldn't give you up for anything
Daniel: i fell in love for the first time when i was 17... at the time, i didn’t realize it was the first time, i thought i’d been in love before, a couple times actually, but falling in love at 17 was such a fulfilling experience, it felt so forceful yet so right. it’s when i first truly understood what love was. never before had i felt so understood and so cared for as i did when i was in love with her, and she was in love with me. it’s been nearly 4 years since then, and nearly 3 years since we broke up and stopped talking, and still, i think about her almost every day. i’ve never known anyone like her; to me, she was love itself.
El: oh i’m in love with everyone that i know op!!! especially my girlfriend, of course ,but also my friends and my family and random people on the street and uh
Grace: i’ve met my soulmate and we plan on getting an apartment and marrying after college
A: I’m going to ask the woman I love to marry me and I just wanted to tell someone because I am so excited
Jeremy: you ever have that feeling where basically after years of denying that someone couldnt understand you in a way or love you and then the next thing you know you happen to find that person and its just great from then on out? idk how to explain it anyways I love my boyfriend so much he means the world to me
Lucy: i am so happy i have found the one i love
to descriptions of best friends and favorite people:
Nightbyrd: Love is a hug from an alzheimer's patient who hasn't the foggiest idea who you are, but they know you're worth hugging.
H: I have been doing so much yoga with my roommate recently!! It's a great way to center my mind for an hour
Riv: [platonic] i’ve literally never met anyone who understands me in the way that my best friends do. they’re literally the best people in the whole world and i genuinely don’t know what i’d do without them. i love them with my whole heart
Cillian: when i talk about how much i love my best friend i get so teary eyed because i cant believe that such a genuinely wonderful person wants to speak to me every day - i care for her more than anyone else on this planet
O: my two besties are my sources of happiness and they’re so pretty i would die for them :D
to beautiful quotes:
Kai: "you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on." DARCYYYY PLS MY HEART CANT HANDLW THIS PAIN
Dorian: When the plane went down in San Francisco, I thought of my friend M. He’s obsessed with plane crashes. He memorizes the wrecked metal details, ____the clear cool skies cut by black scars of smoke. Once, while driving, he told me about all the crashes: The one in blue Kentucky, in yellow Iowa. How people go on, and how people don’t. It was almost a year before I learned that his brother was a pilot. I can’t help it, I love the way men love. (accident report in the tall, tall weeds- ada limon, bright dead things)
Adam: every day I think about lemony snicket I will love you if I never see you again I will love you if I see you every Tuesday or however it goes. and it KILLS ME. love only fits in small things
Hero: “Your heart beats in my ribs and mine in yours, and both in God’s… The divine magnet is in you, and my magnet responds.” - Herman Melville to Nathaniel Hawthorne
Mary: "Love is watching someone die."
Alex: "meet me at blue diner, i'll take coffee and talk about nothing baby"
Sparrow: "How dare you love me like you've never known fear?" and "For you, the world," and "Darling, I was born to press my head between your shoulder blades," and "Will you start where I end?"
V: " You want to die for love. You always have. " and "someone will remember us, I say, even in another time" are living rent free in my mind 24/7 and I'm shaking. When will I finally be not the only one falling ?
Sahar K: To love another person is to see the face of god!!!
Miriam: all the love in the world is useless when there is total lack of understanding- kafka
Juls: Don’t you think they are maybe the same? Love and attention
to practices of love:
Leo; i love feeling happy bc somebody that i love is happy and comfortable....like its not about me i just love seeing you smile. we are safe together...idk i just feel it bro

7 Minutes
Bambam x fem. Reader
Genre: smut if you can call it that
TW: mild sexual content
WC: 2.5k
Author’s note:took me long enough. this is literally my first smut (r.i.p.). also the ending is a nit dumb but wow did I not know how I wanted to end it.
Preview: “I can hear you heart beating,” Bambam spoke softly. His face was inches from yours; a soft hand placed gently on your jaw…
You melted into an old beanbag chair slumped haphazardly against the corner and let your eyes wander the smoky room. Lit only by a few table lamps, the whole space seemed to rock to the R&B music being playing around you. Even though you were hesitant at first, coming to this party was the best idea you’d had in weeks. Well it was less of a party and more like you and 11 other people sitting around in your close friend, Yugyeom’s apartment. You didn’t know most of the people here, but social interaction was social interaction, nonetheless. It felt like ages since you’d had any actual fun.
The smell of sweat, weed, and hours old pizza filled your nose with each breath. Your eyes traced over the mostly unfamiliar faces in the room and landed upon Yugyeom’s roommate, Bambam, causing your stomach to float.
You didn’t know him very well, but the longer you looked at him, the more you wanted to. However, he seemed to almost avoid you whenever you came by; ducking into his room or leaving the apartment altogether. On the rare occasions you were both in the same room, you’d barely acknowledge each other, giving only a polite wave and a short “hey”. You never really asked Yugyeom about it, opting to just admire him from a far as you were doing now.
His slender frame was leaned against the wall as a bored hand scrolled aimlessly on his phone. A red plastic cup occupied the other. He wore white skinny jeans paired with a pale brick turtleneck that hugged his form. Short snow-white hair and small silver earrings contrasted with his golden skin.
“Hey creep.”
Your heart leapt to your throat at the shock. You shot a stern look to your left to see Yugyeom crouched playfully beside you. “Enjoying the view?” The shit-eating grin plastered to his face made your cheeks burn. He’d known for a while about your feelings for his roommate and took every chance to tease you about it. Honestly, he probably needed to bug you as much as he needed to breathe.
Yugyeom lightly patted your cheeks, giggling at the pissy look growing on your face. “Go to hell, Kim,” you pushed his hands away and threw a punch at his shoulder. “Ow, hey! C’mon, I’m just messin’ around, lighten up,” he pouted as he rubbed his shoulder. “Seriously though, why not just ask him out already? I mean what’s the worst that could happen?” You leaned back with folded arms and sighed, “Well for one, he could laugh in my face and say no. And if that happened I would not and could not EVER come over again. Our friendship would then slowly dwindle away to dust since I rarely see you anywhere other than here. And I honestly don’t know if you’re prepared to handle life without me,” a smirk found its way your face. Yugyeom rolled his eyes and opened his mouth to retaliate but stopped himself and smiled impishly, “I have an idea.” He gave one solid clap of his hands, jumped to his feet, and breezed away, leaving you in a pool of confusion and frankly, mild terror.
You watched as he traversed to the stereo and turned the music down, the sudden silence pulling all eyes to him. “Alright guys, it’s that time…” he paused and rubbed his hands together dramatically, “Anyone down for seven minutes?” The room whooped and laughed excitedly, everyone already moving to sit in a circle on the floor.
“Seven minutes” was shorthand for Seven Minutes in Heaven. From what Yug had told you, he and his friends always played when they got together like this. Your stomach formed a knot as Yugyeom moved the small coffee table off to the side and an empty beer bottle was placed in the center of the carpet. Yug found himself a spot, patting the floor next to him for you to join in. Lazily you made your way over and sat cross-legged beside your friend.
You noticed that Bambam was sat across from you leaning back on his hands. He eyed up everyone in the circle and the moment he landed on you, a slight smirk crept to his face. You quickly looked away, feeling your cheeks grow hot. Excitement sparked within you as you silently wished you’d be paired with him.
Yugyeom piped up, “Before we start, I’m gonna explain the rules since y/n hasn’t played with us before.” You listened intently, “I’ll spin to see who goes first. Then that person spins for their partner. No re-spins. You get who you get. The pair will go into the coat closet together for exactly seven minutes. They’re free to do whatever they want with each other, no questions asked. When seven minutes is up, we open the door and let them out. Then we just go clockwise from the first pick. Questions?” Yugyeom looked directly at you.
You shook your empty head. Even if you did have any questions, you didn’t want to make yourself stick out even more than you did. “Then let’s begin,” Yugyeom said as he spun the bottle.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The rounds passed by quickly. Couples were sent into the closet one after another. Each time the timer went off, Yugyeom unceremoniously swung open the door. Make-out sessions were cut short, wandering hands returned to their owners, faces were flushed red.
You remained mostly uninvested, only taking interest when Bambam was finally up. The circle whooped and whistled, a ring of excitement. You could see almost everyone crossing fingers and leaning in, hoping to sway the bottle in their favor. He smugly chuckled and gave a few flirtatious glances at girls he’d probably been paired with before. A pang of jealousy took root within you. Bambam obviously got around and at least half of these girls have gotten a taste before. You watched intently as he reached out and spun the bottle; your heart a lump in your throat.
You weren’t sure if you were hoping to be chosen or not. If you got paired up, would he even be into it? Into you? Would he be disappointed? You mind did somersaults. Time seemed to slow down, the bottle taking its sweet time before finally stopping. Your heart paused; your eyes widened.
You sat frozen, staring at the bottle waiting for it to somehow move to someone else. This moment was too perfect to be true. Your face grew redder; your cheeks hot. For a moment, you only heard blood pumping through your ears. The sounds in the room grew muddy and you thought you might pass out from shock alone.
Yugyeom laughed and nudged your side, bringing you back, “you’re finally in the game!”
He stood and made his way to the closet, opening the door and gesturing inside. Bambam appeared in front of you. He looked like an angel; a vision too good to be real. Smiling he extended a delicate hand. You gently took it, thinking if you grabbed too fast, you’d pass right through him. He pulled you up and guided you towards a giddy Yugyeom who was practically bouncing on his toes. You watched your feet as you walked, too nervous to look anywhere else. Bambam entered first; you crept behind, taking your spot opposite from him.
Dimly lit only by a small strip of purple LED’s the closet took on a cozy air. Save for a few scattered jackets and the building tension, the space was empty. You were practically shaking, wondering if anything would happen between you two or if you’d both sit in awkward silence. “Have fun,” Yugyeom teased in a singsong voice, winking at you as she slowly shut the door.
You were practically glued to the wall, your sense of time skewed. These first few seconds felt as if minutes had already passed by. Now what? You thought. Do I say something? Make a move? Keep looking at my feet, twiddling my thumbs?  You swallowed hard, finally working up the nerve to look up.
Bambam was looking right at you. The weight of his stare keeping you pressed in place. He seemed to take notice of how tense you were.
“We don’t have to do anything, you know. We could just talk; get to know each other better. I mean you’re hear all the time, and I only know your name,” his smile was genuine. It helped to slow your heartbeat just a bit. Even still, your head was swimming.
“Yeah, yeah, sounds great… What do you wanna talk about?”
Bambam thought for a moment, “Well to start, how long have you and Yug been hanging out? He’s never been one to brag about that kinda thing, but he’s never been shy about it either.” You raised a curious eyebrow, “Honestly I thought you were just some onetime hookup, but when you kept coming back-“
A wave of laughter erupted form you. Bambam jumped a bit in shock. “What’s so funny?” he laughed uncomfortably. “I’m sorry,” you wiped a tear from your eye and took a deep breath in, “We’re not sleeping together. I love him yeah, but as a friend. That’s it.”
Bambam’s eyes widened, “Oh. That’s good then…”
“What do you mean ‘good’? Would it be bad if we were?”
“Well yeah,” Bambam’s voice was low, the lighthearted smile now replaced by a sultry smirk. He stepped closer to you, “Cause then I’d have to keep staying away from you.” He pressed both hands against the wall on either side of your head, locking you in. You felt your breath leave you.
You stammered a bit. The air in the closet grew thicker. Bambam’s soft features were illuminated by a purple glow; his eyes grew darker and sharper the longer you gazed into them. For a moment, you thought the floor had collapsed under you. Your eyes darted down, making sure there was still solid ground below your feet. There was. You pinched your arm to make sure you were awake. You were.
He leaned in close to you “I like you, y/n.” The musky smell of his cologne took over your senses. Your heart picked up pace, your knees almost buckled, and your breath became shallow. You swallowed hard, your mouth an arid desert. “I can hear you heart beating,” Bambam spoke softly. His face was inches from yours; a soft hand placed gently on your jaw. “Do you want me to stop?” You shook your head and before you knew it, Bambam’s soft lips connected with yours.
Electricity shot through your body. A soft moan left your mouth as the warmth of his body overtook you. Bambam released you face, his hands finding their way to your hips. Without much thought, you brought your arms around his neck and pulled him in deeper. His tongue knocked at your mouth’s door. You willingly let him in. Your tongues battled back and forth; teeth clashing wildly. He pulled your hips into him and you could feel the growing mass in his jeans push against you. He wanted you as bad as you wanted him.
Bambam broke the kiss and set his sights on your neck. You welcomed him, craning your head to the side to give him room. You felt your core grow warm, beginning to throb with desire. He left a trail of animalistic kisses, pulling at the collar of your shirt. Your breath became hollow. A sharp gasp left you as he grabbed your left leg and pulled it up to his hip.
“You don’t know how bad I’ve wanted this…” he groaned before lightly biting your collar bone.
“Tell me…”
“I’ll do you one better,” he lifted you, pressing your back to the wall. His hips ground into yours all on their own. You couldn’t help but let out a moan, your hands finding their way to his shirt, tugging it desperately. As his fingers dug into your thighs, you pulled harder, craving the feeling of his naked skin. He let you down, lip still attached to you, before unbuttoning your jeans. You were practically dripping, your panties ruined. He toyed with the hem of your panties, knowing fully well what he was doing to you. You bit your lips, frustrated, desperate for his touch. He slid his hand down, rubbing his first and second fingers against you through the thin fabric. You groaned. Two can play at this game…you thought, moving to undo his belt and pants button.
You teased back, palming him through his boxer-briefs. The soft groan vibrating against your neck felt euphoric. He grabbed your wandering hand with his free one, pinning it by your head. “You’re so mean,” you sighed. He said nothing, giving only a deep chuckle; his fingers finding, their way into your underwear, lightly brushing against your outer folds. Your hips moved on their own, instinct taking over. You wanted, no, needed Bambam to go further. If he didn’t, you were sure you’d lose your mind.
He slipped a digit in between, lightly feeling out your entrance. “Holy shit you’re wet...” He brought his lips to your ear, nibbling your lobe, “Do you get like this for every guy?” You shook your head and hummed in reply, too lost to speak. “Good,” and he pushed his finger inside.
You bit your finger as you forced yourself to stay silent. Slowly, Bambam curled his fingers in and out, savoring the feeling of you on his hand. You whimpered, trying your best to keep your sounds to yourself. He met your gaze, smirking smugly. “Having trouble keeping quiet, are we? You better be care, or else everyone’s going to hear you,” he pushed his fingers deeper, beginning to pump faster. You bit your bottom lip hard, your breath fast but deep. You began to feel yourself tighten on him, your body on autopilot, chasing a high so out of reach. You needed more so damn badly you thought you’d die. But you knew time was limited. If you both lost control then you’d for sure be exposed to a room of curious eyes. Bambam knew too, slowing his pace to a halt before slipping out of you. You whined in frustration, throwing a pair of big puppy eyes and a pout at him.
“Our time’s almost up,” he sucked you from his fingers, while using his dry hand to caress your cheek. You looked at him inquisitively. “We’ve played so often; I’ve gotten pretty good at gaging the time. We’ll pick this back up later,” he winked and fastened his jeans and belt. You follow suit, quickly straightening yourself out to avoid suspicion.
The two of you returned to your original spots, leaning against the walls. A bright smile stretched across Bambam’s face which you mirrored. The closet door swung open to reveal Yugyeom still bright eyed and grinning. The two of you stepped out and returned to your spots in the circle. Yugyeom took his seat next to you, shaking your shoulder and quietly whispering, “Well? Well?” You smirked, glancing at Bambam before looking back to your friend. “We’re gonna play again later.”

description: Post-Endgame. Steve Rogers has passed away from old age. The one remarkable thing is that no one knew his heart would be in the condition it was. He was able to save one more life. After receiving his heart, strange things start happening. Including something that would change your life forever. (Very loosely based on the Netflix series of the same name.)
an: a little shorter than the others, but! I just had a hellish weekend at work that’s not quite over yet and writing this between tables makes it a little better so... enjoy loves.
Tumblr media
The community center was in Brooklyn, the large brick building housed many different projects. An after school program for kids, a homeless shelter at night, various ‘anonymous’ meetings during the day. This wasn’t like the typical VA. It was very much a hodgepodge group of people brought together by the circumstance of Sam Wilson being a good human being. Sam Wilson was probably one of the kindest people you’ve ever met.
You didn’t belong here, maybe this was a mistake. You were standing very awkwardly off to the side, holding a cheap styrofoam cup of coffee. If anything this dress was definitely a mistake, the button up t-shirt dress you figured was a nice middle ground of looking nice but not trying to look too nice, but everyone else’s jeans and t-shirts made you feel like you should have just worn jeans and a t-shirt. The exception was Sam, who ran the group. He was in a nice button down and slacks, but even Bucky was just in a black t-shirt, jeans and a leather jacket.
You were trying not to think about it.
“Are you going to be okay while we make some rounds?” Sam asked you. The two wanted to leave you momentarily to go and greet people they know, “Grab a drink, we’ll be right back.”
You didn’t belong here. These men and women who actually lived it. You flinched at the memory that plagued you last night. Boot camp. It was rough, but Steve made it through. Not without sore bones and an asthma attack or two. But it wasn’t you.
You feel like a fraud.
You could feel yourself at a different time, a darker room. People who were a little more sad.
After the blip, when everyone came back, the world was a mess. People who had moved on now had their spouses, partners, kids back. Some of them had new kids, had gotten remarried. Others had died during the blip. The accidents caused by disappearing drivers, pilots. People who couldn’t handle the loss. People returning was just as bad as people disappearing. But everyone picked themselves back up a little easier.
There was optimism with loss. Iron Man, Tony Stark. Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff. Captain America, Steve Rogers. They sacrificed their lives in order to save everyone in the entire universe. There were murals of their faces in every borough of New York City. You passed three on your way in.
“This VA is a little different than the one I ran in DC,” Sam said, “But it’s pretty much the same.” There was a mural of their faces in this community center. It made you a little sick. You could almost feel him looking over your shoulder, Steve, hot on your back. Like he was actually there.
“You don’t have to say anything.” Bucky told you as the three of you parked the car, “Get some coffee, eat some snacks. You can just observe.” He was trying hard for you, hand on your back, rubbing slightly to comfort you, but you felt empty when he walked away to talk to a man who was much older. Someone who was almost his actual age, in a wheelchair playing cards with men not much younger than him.
It wasn’t hard to forget that Bucky was supposedly in his hundreds. It was 2025, the guy was 108 years old. He looked to be in his 30s. You felt like you were a hundred, suddenly the coffee wasn’t that bad.
“New here?” A man sidled up next to you, pouring himself a cup of coffee from the metal coffee server next to you. He was handsome, but had the same hollow look in his eyes that you’d often seen in Bucky and Sam. Even Steve. You scraped your fingernail gently against the styrofoam. Nervously you answered,
“Yeah,” You took a sip from your coffee. Fraud. “I’m just here with some friends though,” You explained, gesturing to Sam. “I’m not- I haven’t.” He chuckled, stirring his creamer with one of the wooden stir sticks before studying you.
“It’s okay,” He smiled. Charming. “You don’t have to explain.” His hair looked like it was cut with kitchen scissors, you noticed. Shaggy and reaching around his ears. Five o’clock shadow, motor oil around his nail beds. “I’ve been coming here for about a year now,” He explained. “It gets easier.” Sip of coffee and a sweet smile. “No matter what brought you here.”
“I’m Y/N.” You offered him your hand. He grinned, his teeth were perfectly straight.
“I’m Eric.” His hand was rough and calloused in yours, a shiver went through your body when you noticed he had dimples. “Do you wanna sit by me, maybe?” He gestured over to where Sam and Bucky were setting up the circle of chairs. You looked over at the both of them, who seemed intent on trying to not pay attention to your conversation. You tugged your bottom lip between your teeth as you stared at Bucky for a moment more, heart aching,
“Sure.”
He refreshed your coffee for you and sat a little too close to make you comfortable. You didn’t notice Bucky and Sam exchange a look, before Bucky decided to sit on the other side of you.
“You okay?” He asked, nudging your arm softly, eyes pointedly glancing at Eric. You nodded silently, giving him a soft smile.
“Yeah, I’m good.” You could tell he felt unsure, shifting down in his seat so he could look at Eric from behind you.
Bucky was unsure about this guy.
“He’s just being friendly,” Sam assured him as they brought out the metal folding chairs from the utility closet. “We left her alone for a while, she obviously was uncomfortable.” Bucky huffed grumpily.
“He’s trying to hit on her.” Sam rolled his eyes.
“Relax Buck.” Sam unfolded the papers from his pocket and laid them on the chair he’d be using, “She’s fine.” It didn’t stop him from heavily taking the chair next to yours, leaning back in his seat to examine the guy as he talked, trying to read him and see what he was all about.
“I lost my wife in the field.” He said. Your heart broke, “We were in separate divisions. I’m a marine, she was in the air force.” You could see Bucky shift in his seat. “During the blip she was running drills with a teammate, the plane went down when her teammate blipped.” Eric’s eyes were watery when they met yours, shifting awkwardly in his seat. “I had blipped myself so…” He swallowed harshly. “When I came back… I had nothing to come back to. I always thought if either of us were to die at war it would be me y’know? The air force is typically pretty safe.”
“We were all affected by the blip,” Sam explained, “Some in more ways than others. You’re very brave for sharing that with us.” Bucky grunted next to you and you looked over at him, sunk down in his seat, hands in his jacket pockets, starting ahead at Sam.
“I’m so sorry.” You whispered to Eric, placing a hand on his arm. He looked at you with a watery smile.
“I’m trying to move on,” He explained to the group. “It’s been two years since I’ve been back and I think it’s finally time.” The group clapped for him in encouragement.
The air here was tense. Everyone had a story like this, something similar anyway. Sam lost his best friend out in the field. A girl named Ally lost her right leg in Afghanistan. A man named Neil’s daughter died overseas in war, he fought in Vietnam. It was heartbreaking. These people were laying themselves bare, exposing their insecurities and their fears. Their never ending night terrors and crowd anxiety. Slowly, over time, the room became lighter. More relieved.
“You think you’ll be back?” Eric asked you as people were collecting their belongings. You shifted your empty coffee cup between your hands, looking at Bucky behind you.
“Maybe,” You said with a nervous smile.
“We just have to clean up and then we can go if you want,” Bucky interrupted, giving Eric a tight smile before looking at you.
“We can stay if you wanted to play some cards or something?” You offered. Bucky had promised one of the older men from earlier that he would stick around and play a hand or two. He shrugged, looking over at Sam.
“I’m just saying, the first time is kind of intense,” Eric was standing off to the side awkwardly during this exchange where Bucky seemed to be ignoring his presence. “If you wanna go back home we can.” His hand lay comfortingly on your arm.
You shake your head, “No, go ahead. I’ll be fine.” He nodded once, eyes drifting back to Eric’s momentarily before grabbing both of your chairs and walking away.
“Your boyfriend is scary.” Eric laughed nervously.
“Oh he’s not-” You gestured towards Bucky, “He’s not my boyfriend, we’re just like-” You didn’t know how to properly explain it, “Roommates.” Sounds about right.
Relief crossed Eric’s features, “Oh good,” He walked with you back over to the coffee and continued as you poured yourself another cup, “So it wouldn’t be too forward of me to ask you to dinner?” Your hand stilled under the coffee server, looking up at the man beside you.
He was handsome and from what you could tell he was kind. It just wasn’t the right time. You had so much going on. How would you even begin to explain the compound? He had to know who Bucky and Sam were.
“Is that a no?” He chuckled nervously. You sighed and looked down at the black liquid in your cup.
“I’m sorry,” Your eyes met his crestfallen ones, “It’s just…” you looked over at Bucky and Sam, sitting down to join the older men in a game of poker. “I’m recovering from heart surgery and it’s been…a process.” A soft smile broke out on his face,
“Not technically a no… can I at least give you my number?” He offered, pulling his phone from his pocket. “Maybe once you’re a little more out of the process?” You’ve never really dated, having been too sick for most of your life. This could be your chance to go on an honest to god date. Flowers, dinner, everything. You were still so unsure of your feelings. Steve’s and yours mixed all together in this overflowing pot you’d been trying to keep from spilling over.
“Sure,” You pulled your phone out of the pocket of your dress, exchanging numbers with him. He was charming and if that dimple was anything to go by, you could imagine caring about him. Someone that seemed as broken as you felt. Maybe. In a different place, a better life.
“Stay safe out there.” He called as you left to join Sam and Bucky at the poker table.
“You too,” You called back, choosing to pointedly ignore Sam and Bucky’s questioning looks.
“What was that all about?” Sam asked teasingly. A blush spread across your cheeks,
“Nothing.” Bucky was stiff next to you. They dealt you in, a game you’d never played before, but the older man--Louie--assured you he’d help you out. He was wearing his Vietnam veteran hat and he told you that you reminded him of his granddaughter.
“You shouldn’t really be dating right now.” Bucky said later on in the car on the ride home. Sam gave him a side eye,
“Buck, chill.” Sam glanced at you in the rear-view mirror.
“It’s none of your business frankly.” What the fuck? “I told him no.” You pulled your phone from your pocket, sinking down in the back seat.
“I’m just saying,” Bucky shrugged, looking out the car window, “You should be focusing on figuring out whatever is going on with you right now.”
“What do you think I’m doing?” You snapped, glaring at the back of his head. God his hair was shiny. “What is your problem?”
“Yeah, Bucky, what’s your problem?” Sam pulled up to the gate of the compound, scanning a key card to enter. He grumbled in the passenger seat,
“Something’s off about that guy.” He explained to the both of you, “I don’t like him.”
“Something off like what?” You asked angrily, leaning towards the passenger seat. “Him asking me to dinner or him crying about his dead wife?”
“I don’t know yet.” You rolled your eyes, shifting away from him.
“This is just like that time Barbie Goldstien asked me to the Sadie Hawkins instead of you, you literally swore she was doing it to be mean.” You accused. Heart dropping out of your chest practically as you realize what you just said. The car was parked and the three of you sat in a tense silence. No one moved. Your throat was closing up, where did all the air go? Bucky practically ripped the car door off, kicking it open with his foot, leaving it open. He walked four paces away towards the front door before turning and returning to the car, ducking his head back in to stare you down, face enraged,
“She did ask Steve as a prank, I told her to either go with him for real or to fake sick otherwise I was going to tell everyone about her pissing herself in the hallway in the first grade. So my intuition was right.” Car door slammed and he was stomping up to the house, leaving the two of you in a strange silence. You tossed your head back, looking at the sky from the back window of the car, tears welling in your eyes.
“I can never win Sam.” He leaned back against the headrest sighing heavily. “I’m losing what’s me and what is him.” He looked at you from the rearview mirror, you lifted your head to look at him.
“Bucky is never going to be easy.” He explained, “He’s trying.” You know he is. “He’s trying.” Sam repeated again, rubbing his eyes.
You didn’t see either of them for the rest of the night.
“I’m getting better at it,” Wanda said, her powers. Practicing. They were incredible, powerful. She was strong, “I lost a lot of confidence after what happened in Nigeria, but I’ve come a long way since then.” She was lifting things in the gym, both of you in workout gear, she was showing you how easily she could lift heavy objects, but you already knew that. You’ve already seen it. “I try not to use the mind warping unless I actually have to.” She explains. You remember that too. She’d shown you Peggy.
She’d shown Steve, Peggy.
You could almost feel her dress beneath your fingertips, swaying side to side, dancing in your living room. Nat King Cole crooning over the speakers of the record table under the window that faced the rose bushes you’d planted for her, their buds just peeking over the windowsill. A roast was in the oven, it was Sunday.
“I was thinking of taking a Holiday,” She whispered against your chest. “We could go to the beach?” You hummed in contentment,
“We can do that.” You flitted back to the quiet singing coming over the speakers. This is what you wanted wasn’t it? Peggy was in your arms, shield and hammer packed away. For all intents and purposes you were a house husband. Coming out whenever Peggy had something she needed your help with, but for the most part…
You cooked, cleaned, you’d recently been discussing having a child.
Who were you now?
You were just Steve Rogers.
Just Steve.
“Hey,” Wanda was in your line of vision, “You okay?” You hummed,
“Yeah, did I have another seizure?” She shook her head.
“No, you just kind of drifted off, like daydreaming.” Huh. “You had another memory?” Her brow was pinched in concern.
“Yeah,” You shake your head as if clearing a fog. “I did.” You sighed heavily, rolling back to lay down on the mat beneath you, staring at the ceiling.
“What was it about?” She asked, sitting herself next to you.
“Peggy.” You gave her a tense smile. “It’s so strange to love someone—remember someone—in such an intimate way, someone I’ve never known myself… but Steve loved her.” Wanda nodded, hand coming to rub your back soothingly.
“He left all of us for her.” Emotion thick in her voice.
It was hard to remember that Bucky wasn’t the only person that lost Steve. The only person who was devastated by him leaving. He left handprints on all of these people’s lives and just left. “The only selfish thing the guy’s ever done in his life.” Sam told you with a humorless laugh.
No.
Steve’s done a bunch of selfish things.
The accords.
You felt the self-righteousness. The belief in being right. A part of you still staunchly believes you did the right thing, the only thing you could have done. The only thing Steve could have done. But you know that it could have been handled differently.
Steve was clouded by thoughts of Bucky and the need to protect the man who always protected him. Bucky was a good kid. Better than Steve ever was. While Bucky was taking care of his Ma, his sister Becca, and Steve himself, Steve was off getting into fights and trying to illegally enlist in the war he would lose Bucky to.
Bucky was really good at science and math, he liked dancing and music, he loved the movies. He had time for all of those things, when he wasn’t pulling twelve hour shifts at the canary and picking Steve’s sorry ass off the street where his face had found someone’s fists.
You suddenly realized why Bucky looked so tired.
He’s been tired his entire life.
“I can understand why he did it,” Wanda continued, “If I had the chance to have either of them back…” You nodded solemnly, the two of you coming to hold each other in the middle of the gym.
“That’s the thing though right?” You stared over her shoulder, watching Bucky as he entered the gym, eyes catching yours, “If we all got everything we ever wanted the world would probably be a much more terrible place.”
You were trying to sleep when the first text came in,
Eric: Hey, I know this is a little soon and you said you weren’t ready to date, but everyone has time for friends right?
You stared at your phone screen in the dark, thinking about the man you had met earlier in the day. You’ve always felt pretty average. You knew you weren’t ugly, but you wouldn’t exactly compare yourself to Gal Gadot or anything. You’d just never had the time for actual dating. You were born with heart problems, they persisted throughout your entire life getting increasingly worse until you found yourself on the table under a knife getting the heart of a deceased super soldier. In high school, prime dating years, you spent more time in the hospital than in the classroom and you were sickly, pale, always with bags under your eyes and a crushing fatigue.
You’d never been approached like this before.
You’d never been asked on a date before.
You’d never had someone ask you for your number and then text you the same day before.
This was new.
So what are you supposed to do? You stared at your phone screen in the dark, the light from it illuminating your face as you typed out your reply.
Do you want to get coffee sometime?

Döden Går Tyst I Skogen
Word count: 4487
Prompt: “I’m going to die. I’m going to die with an absolute idiot!”
--------------
“I hope you guys had no other plans for this weekend because we’re going camping!”
Of course Cleves was the one to present this idea. She was the nature freak, after all (in a good way, of course).
It was just another day at the theater, another day of singing the same songs and dancing the same dances. Perhaps that’s why Cleves came up with this proposition in the first place; she could sense the dreariness coating the ten of them and knew they all needed a break.
“Camping?” Aragon said slowly. “Really?”
“Yes, really!” Cleves replied with natural enthusiasm. “Come on, we don’t have any shows this weekend. We need this. What’s a better way to unwind than be in the great outdoors?”
“Be inside where it’s safe?” Joan put in.
“It sounds good to me.” Anne said, talking over Joan, earning an annoyed huff from the girl, who promptly buries her face back into her sketchbook. “It gives me more of a reason not to do the dishes!”
“You’re still doing them,” Jane said, then smiled at Cleves. “That sounds like a wonderful idea. I don’t think I’ve ever gone camping before.”
“Think you can handle it, Miss Germaphobe?” Anne teased.
“Yes!” Jane barked, suddenly defensive. “It is nature! It’s probably cleaner out there than it is in here.”
“Poison ivy, poison oak, leprosy, hornets, rabies, murderers…” Joan began to rattle off the dangers of nature. “Fungal diseases, scorpions, bears…” She continues, but nobody pays attention after that.
“I think it’s a great idea!” Kitty piped up. “Can we take the dogs?”
“Yeah!” Cleves said excitedly. “This is gonna be amazing! You won’t regret it!”
And so, the plans were arranged.
After spending the three days in actual civilization, the gang packed up two cars with supplies Cleves had bought (again, nature freak) and drove off to the campsite the red queen knew about.
They arrived a little after six. It took ten minutes to hike to the clearing, and then around another thirty minutes to unpack and get set up, but they were all eventually sitting on logs and chairs around the fire Kitty and Anne started, a task Jane had been hesitant about giving them.
“Let’s play a game!” Kitty said.
“Hippo,” Joan suggested.
She got several head tilts, but Cathy flashed a grin at her.
“We used to call it Hippo, but we got tired of people always asking, ‘Why’s it called Hippo?’” She laughed. “Nice OXENFREE reference, Jo. I got it.” She swung her head around to the others, missing Joan’s shy blush in reaction to what she said. “It’s like Truth or Dare, except it’s a little nicer because nobody has to chug a bottle of hot sauce or lick someone else’s butthole. You can ask anyone any question you want and they have to answer no matter what, but if someone can prove that they’re lying, they get to slap them for not telling the truth.”
The others nodded in understanding.
“I’ll go first to start us off,” Cathy said. “Jane- Would you ever be polygamous?”
Jane scrunched up her nose in bafflement at such a question why several others laughed loudly. Cathy merely shrugged at the look she was being given and then motioned for Jane to answer.
“No. No way.” Jane said. “I mean, if you’re into that, nifty, but one partner is hard enough to deal with for me.”
A few more snorts went through the group, but nobody made a move to slap Jane, meaning, as far as they all knew, she was telling the truth.
“My turn, right?” Jane asked.
“Yup,” Cathy nodded.
“Okay…” Jane looked around at everyone. “Anne!” The green queen perked up and waited excitedly. “If you woke up as the opposite gender, what’s the first thing you would do?”
“Masturbate.”
Laughter erupted through the clearing. Maria even tipped backwards off of the log she was sitting on and had to cling desperately to Bessie’s shirt, which nearly made the bassist come down with her.
“I’m crying!” Maggie howled, wiping a finger under her watering eyes.
“There was zero hesitation!” Cleves cried.
“Can I slap her just because?” Aragon asked.
“I speak only the truth.” Anne smirked. “My turn now, and I choose...Bessie!”
There was a swell of intrigued murmurs. Bessie raised an eyebrow at Anne.
“Ever committed a crime?” Anne asked.
“If the illegal downloading of over a thousand songs counts as a crime, then yes.” Bessie said nonchalantly. “And tax fraud.”
“What?” Aragon gaped, among many shocked reactions.
“Anna!” Bessie said, providing no context or explanation for her answer.
And so, the game went on.
Darkness began to fall over the forest as evening turned to night. Rays of marigold and pink and orange slipped through the trees, bathing the clearing in the colors of twilight before serene, inky black settles in its place. Laughter and music filled the grove even as the moon rose up high in the silver-speckled sky. Hippo turned into Cards Against Humanity, then a forest dance party, and then just normal conversations with topics that would randomly whisk away with the wind.
Maria was the first to turn in for the night at eleven. Cathy and Kitty followed thirty minutes later, until everyone had nestled into their respective tents. The sound of humming crickets and croaking frogs lulled them all into a peaceful sleep…
--
12:48
Saturday, November 12
That’s what the big, white letters and numbers at the top of Joan’s phone screen read when she pressed the power button. She squinted at the brightness, then shut it off to relieve her eyes of the stinging glow that blinded them. She set her phone aside and rolled over, finding that there was much more space than before. When she peeked out from under her heavy eyelids again, she saw that the sleeping that used to occupy Cleves, her tent roommate, was empty.
Probably using the bathroom, Joan thought, snuggling back up in the blanket she brought. However, for the life of her, she couldn’t drift back off. You’d think the silence outside would help, bit it didn’t. In fact, it made falling asleep even worse for that very reason- that it was silent. No chirping of night birds, no rustling of leaves in the wind, no croaking of frogs. Nothing.
Complete silence.
Joan sat up, rubbed her eyes, then crawled out of the tent. The fire had been reduced down to flickering embers, and the minimal glow they gave off revealed a bare perimeter around the site. When she checked, there was nobody in the other tents.
“Guys?”
No answer.
Joan grabbed one of the flashlights lying around and began scanning the area of the camping ground. There was nobody.  Not even the dogs they had brought along.
“Hello? Guys?”
She vaguely remembered them talking about going on a night hike hours earlier, so she stepped out of the fire’s light and started to search. She waved the flashlight around everywhere, calling out for her friends.
“Jane? Bessie? Catherine?” She shouted into the darkness. “Where’d you guys go? Anne?”
Nothing answered her.
Joan delved deeper into the woods. Fallen leaves and icy grass crunches underneath her feet. The darkness surrounded her like a malevolent entity. It seemed palpable, almost physical. She shivered as a cold whirlwind gusted around her, her pajamas providing little to no protection from the wind. She regretted not grabbing her coat, but she hadn’t been expecting it to take this long.
“They could have at least told me where they were going.” She grumbled, “Or when they would get back. Or when they left because this is ridiculous!”
A branch snapped loudly from behind. Joan whirled around to see nobody.
“Guys?”
Bushes rustled nearby.
“Guys, this isn’t funny anymore!” She yelled.
There were more snaps and crackles that seemed to come from every direction. A crash sounded from a few yards away, like someone had taken a big log and threw it to the ground with as much force as possible. Joan thought she heard laughter coming from in the trees. She’s spinning around in rapid circles, shining her flashlight everywhere.
Then, a scream.
Something lunged out from the underbrush.
Joan shrieked in pure terror and fell backwards, becoming paralyzed with fear. She braced her arms over her head. The laughter is back. She peeks out and her heart sinks.
“Oh man, you should have seen your face, Joan!”
“You...you prick!!”
Kitty jumped out of the way when the pianist flung a stick at her. She doubled over, giggling and trying to catch her breath.
“That wasn’t funny!”
“Sorry, sorry, okay! It was just too good!”
She hauled Joan up to her feet, despite the nasty glare she was getting.
“So all of that was you?”
Kitty nodded, grinning widely and wiping her eyes.
“God, you are so annoying. You put way too much effort into that!” Joan growled, rolling her eyes. “That didn’t sound like you up in the trees. Come on, let’s hear you do that voice again.”
Kitty gave her a confused look.
“What?”
“The laughter. In the trees. Do it again.”
“What are you talking about? I just made all those rustling noises. I never climbed a tree.”
Joan was awful at telling when people were lying, but something inside of her told her that Kitty was telling the truth. She fidgeted nervously.
“It must have just been the wind then.” She said, despite how painfully cliché that sounded. “Let’s-let’s just get back to the camp.”
She and Kitty began walking through the woods.
“So, was everyone in on the joke?”
Kitty shook her head. “Nope. Just me.” She said, “We were heading back from the hike and I heard you yelling, so I decided to give you a little scare.”
“Which was so nice of you.” Joan deadpanned. She hated having to walk alone with Kitty of all people; it was so awkward! And it only got worse when it became evident that they had no idea where they were going.
“Shouldn’t we have found the clearing by now?” Joan asked anxiously.
“Calm down,” Kitty said, as if she weren’t a big scaredy cat herself. “We’ll get there.”
Joan gave her an unconvinced look, but kept walking because every other direction didn’t look any more helpful than the one they were going on. She pointed her flashlight straight ahead, but it seemed like the light wasn’t as strong as it had been before, like the shadows were devouring the length of the white beam and leaving it dimmed and short.
Their hike was spent mostly in silence, aside from all the forest noises, which had finally returned. Or, perhaps they’ve always been there. It gets hard to tell after a while.
The two of them duck under brittle, reaching branches and coils of thorns until they break through the thicket and into a small clearing where a cottage as old as time itself sat. It’s swathed by tendrils of ivy climbing their way towards the roof and splotched with patches of emerald green moss. It’s a chalk color, black peppering along its breast. The windows are a deep brown, shoddy paint chipping along the frames’ lips and brow, the very age of the cottage showing in its deterioration. Strings of small bones and clumps of fur and feathers dangle from branches and carvings of snakes with gemstone eyes guard the trees around the property.
And—
There’s light coming from inside.
It’s barely there. Just the occasional flicker, a warm orange seeping through the windows and bathing the frosted, overgrown grass that sits along the ground against the wall of the cottage outside.
Kitty furrowed her brows, then glanced at Joan, who had her head tilted slightly in confusion. She’s looking at the house as if she’s expecting it to start talking and give her answers of its history.
“We definitely didn’t go the right way.” Kitty said helpfully, earning a glower from Joan.
“You think?”
Cautiously, they make their way up to the front door, a wide brown-oak thing, with a cut-out panel for a small, cracked glass window. As Joan is pushing down the rusted grey handle, Kitty swore she saw one of the snakes with ruby eyes turn its head to watch them. She instinctively latched onto Joan, who jumped and then shrugged her off.
“Let go,” Joan hissed.
“Sorry,” Kitty said softly. “I thought I saw something.”
Joan frowned and scanned the trees circling the house and then stepped inside, motioning for Kitty to come with her.
“This isn’t trespassing, right? Shouldn’t we have knocked first?” Kitty said, looking around the musty interior.
“Maybe,” Joan said. “But we’re inside now. Oh well. Maybe the person who lives here can help us.”
She shines her flashlight around, revealing racks and shelves of various animal bones and furs. In fact, the entire place seemed to be either decorated by remains or wood carvings.
“What’s that thing where people are into collecting animal skeletons?” Kitty asked quietly.
“Vulture culture,” Joan replied.
“Ah,” Kitty nodded. She took her phone out of her pocket; the bedazzled, hot pink case glittered slightly in the flashlight’s glow. “Well, I’m going to go back outside and try to get some bars to call Jane.”
“What time is it?” Joan asked before she did so.
“It’s two in the morning.” Kitty answered.
The front door remained open for Joan’s own sense of safety and so the sparse moonlight could leak inside. She made the quick trek through the living room, which was adorned with more fur and bones, and made it to a short hallway. She opened a door on the right, which led to a musty-smelling room overgrown with fungus and plant life. She was about to leave and check if the other door was the one where they had seen the light, when she noticed a boot sticking out from behind the bed.
She believed she may have just found the owner of the cabin.
It was a man. Or, at least, Joan assumed it was a man from whatever clothes were left upon the skeleton. She guessed he probably died from a heart attack or something, which would have been a terrible way to go, since he had clearly been all alone.
Just then, the sound of the front door slamming shut jarred Joan out of her inspection. She jumped, whirled around, and opened her mouth to snap at Kitty for doing that, even though she specifically wanted to keep the door open, but something told her not to. The words caught in her mouth and her jaw remained agape for a moment as she listened.
There was a crack of wood from the hallway.
Someone was in the cabin with her.
“Hello?” Called a voice far too raspy and deep to be Kitty’s. It almost sounded like an old man’s. “Anybody in here? I need help!”
Joan backed up against the wall as quietly as she could, not daring to reply.
“Hello?” The man said again, this time with far more desperation.
The door pushed open slowly, but Joan was still hidden behind it from the way it came out. However, she could still see around the frame and watched as the man came inside, crawling on all fours with its inhumanly long limbs. The skin was wrinkled, molted, and sickly pale with smears of dark red and brown. It was incredibly thin and completely bald, but had scratches and pock marks littering its head. Its bones pressed grossly up against its taut flesh as it climbed onto the bed, grappling on with grotesquely disjointed hands and feet that almost looked like a gibbon’s. It looked down at the skeleton, then, in the gravelly voice, said, “I need help!”
Joan inhaled sharply and the thing snapped its head around to her. Its black, eyeless sockets drilled deep into her soul.
--
“Come on,” Kitty muttered as she watched a text to Jane try to send for the third time. She sighed heavily in annoyance, but that feeling was quickly whisked away by a jolt of fear when the door slammed shut behind her. She jumped and spun around, then narrowed her eyes at the doorway. “Wow. I was barely even being loud. But I expect no less from the MD who gets mad at every little thing!”
She turned away, not wanting to have her back to all the snakes. She continued to try and send a text until the door behind her suddenly swung open loudly and Joan came sprinting out.
“Kat!!” Joan yelled. “Run!”
“What?!”
Joan grabbed her arm as she ran by, pulling her along. She quickly fell into pace, and the two of them raced through the underbrush, getting whipped by ivy and branches and thorns as they went along. They stopped, eventually, to catch their breath.
“What’s wrong?!” Kitty exclaimed through pants.
“There’s...someone out here with us.” Joan said bluntly with a wince. “Not one of our friends. Just please tell me you got a hold of Jane and know where to go.”
“No,” Kitty shook her head. “Wait- what do you mean ‘someone’?”
Joan began walking again. “I-I don’t know, honestly. Someone came into the house or was already inside, I’m not sure, but I was someone. Or something…”
Kitty swallowed thickly. At first she had been thinking Joan was just messing with her to get revenge for earlier, but Joan looked genuinely terrified. She kept looking over her shoulders and shining her flashlight around everywhere and anxiously fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. Something had really frightened her.
“Like...a man?”
“I don’t know!” Joan said. “I- I can’t describe it. You would have to see it to know what I mean.” She fell into a moment of nervous silence. “I just want to get out of these stupid woods…”
“Me too,” Kitty agreed. “Anything is better than this.”
“Eh. I can think of a few things.”
“I just wished Jane was here…”
Joan set a hand on her shoulder. “Me too.”
Kitty smiled slightly, despite the circumstances. She looked back down at her phone to see that the message was still trying to send.
“Let me see,” Joan said and Kitty handed her phone as she spoke again, “KAT!!!”
Except it hadn’t come from beside her.
Kitty whirled around to see Joan running through the dark trees. Her face was ghostly pale and dotted with sweat along the brow. Her storm grey eyes were wide with peril. The words she screamed sent Kitty’s entire world come crashing down on top of her.
“THAT ISN’T ME!!”
Kitty turned in time to watch the thing at her side disappear into the underbrush. Her jaw fell open, her breath catching in her throat as she was seized by terror. She had let it touch her. It had slipped into her life so easily and she had no idea.
What was it planning on doing if Joan hadn’t shown up?
“Kat, Kat, hey,” Joan is in front of her, shaking her shoulders frantically. She clearly didn’t know how to calm someone in the midst of a panic attack. “Listen, I know you’re freaked out, but we have to go.”
She grabbed Kitty by the wrist and began running. Kitty stumbled along behind her, but managed to keep a steady pace, even with her rising horror.
“Joan-” She choked out as they sprinted through the trees. “Joan, what the fuck?”
“I-I-I don’t know!” Joan cried. “One moment I was alone in the cabin and then the next, that thing is there! I-it knocked me out, I think, and took my- AHH!!”
Joan cut herself off with a cry of pain and the loud clanging of metal as she’s suddenly yanked to the ground. Kitty screamed, too, at the sudden outburst and skidded to a halt. In the dim moonlight, she can see Joan writhing on the ground, sobbing in obvious distress.
“Joan?” Kitty whispered fearfully. “What’s wrong?”
“S-something’s got me-” Joan rasped. “Something’s-” She howled loudly.
“Is it the thing?” Kitty asked, but her only answer is a sharp whine that morphs into a sob. Slowly, she turned on her phone, which had scratch marks engraved into the glass from the creature, and activated the flashlight app. She couldn’t tell if what she saw in the light was worse than the monster or not.
A bear trap. Clamped around Joan’s left leg, just above the ankle. Joan’s left hand gripped at the limb tightly, slightly over where the metallic teeth bared into her flesh. One sporadic tremor was all it took to send new currents of torture up her leg. And, this time, there was no stifling her tormented scream from ripping out of her throat. Now, both hands were clutching at the appendage, trying as the might to lessen the pain. Of course, it did little to no good.
“Oh god,” Kitty whispered. “Oh god, oh god, oh god…!” She was beginning to panic, spiraling all over again. Joan caught attention of this growing anxiety attack through her own haze.
“No!” She snapped. “You don’t GET to freak out! You don’t have this fucking thing attached to your leg! You need to be the strong one for once!” Her voice wavered treacherously. “Please-”
Kitty sniffled, but nodded. She knew Joan was right- someone had to keep their head on straight, and it would be much harder for the one caught in a bear trap to do that.
She knelt down beside Joan, her knees dipping into a pool of blood spreading out across the dirt. She reached out and cringed when her fingers squelched against the fabric of Joan’s pajama pants, warm liquid seeping through and almost immediately coating her hands. They were numb, quivering as she forced them to venture farther and nearer to the source of her companion’s agony.
“Shit, shit, shit, shit,” Joan muttered. “I’m going to die. I’m going to die with an absolute idiot! No offense.”
“None taken,” Kitty grunted  as she jammed her fingers through where she could, eliciting a sharp cry from Joan.
“What the fuck?! WHAT THE FUCK?!” Joan yelled, writhing.
“I’m trying to get it off!” Kitty told her.
She attempted to pry the jaws of the artificial beast from Joan’s leg, but her arms were shaking too much and the torment that seized Joan’s body prevented her from using all her strength; all of it was quickly being stolen away in both of them. Before she could get the teeth more than an inch away, the slickness caused it to slip from her grasp and bite right back to where it was originally. Just like that, they were back at square one.
“M-maybe I can break it off?” Kitty stammered.
“Try,” Joan begged. She leaned back and laid down, clawing her hands at the dirt and ripping at the grass to try and cope with the waves of agony washing over her. Tears were falling freely from her eyes.
Kitty began to search the perimeter of the clearing, being mindful of other illegal traps laid out- bear traps, fox traps, snares, cages. She weaved around them carefully, scanning the ground until she found a few big and pointy rocks and some sturdy-looking sticks. She gathered them all, willing to try each of them until one worked.
“Listen,” Joan slurred as she made her way back over. “We both hate this. In fact, I hate it more because I’m the one with a bear trap on my leg. So-” Then, she went snow white.
“Joan?” Kitty said worriedly. “What’s wrong?”
“Kat, don’t move.” Joan whispered slowly. “I know we have our differences, but I need you to trust me. Whatever you do, don’t move.”
Kitty obeys, freezing in place. She held the rocks and sticks close to her chest, staring into Joan’s eyes and not daring to look at anything else. Bile was rising in her throat, not because of her mounting fear, but because of the sickly sweet smell of cadaverine emanating from the figure beside her.
“I can’t believe I finally found you both!” It said with Jane's voice. “I’ve been looking all over. I was so worried.”
A hand with long, spindly fingers comes up to rest on Kitty’s shoulder. Kitty squeezes her eyes shut, tears slowly rolling down her face as she barely suppressed a whimper.
“I was so worried.” It said again, using Anne’s voice.
Joan is perfectly still, not even feeling the pain of the bear trap anymore. She watches as the thing’s head twitches sporadically before finally stopping and staring directly at her, wearing Aragon’s face.
“You two know better than to run off like that.”
That’s when Kitty screamed. Unable to take it anymore, she darted left and ran for the trees. The thing went after her, and Joan could only lie there and watch as it lunged at her, latching on and throwing her to the ground, where it began shredding her face and burrowing into her back and peeling off her skin until she stopped screaming. Then, with the young queen’s flesh draped around its neck like a scarf, it crawled over to Joan. She didn’t move as it pressed its nails into her belly and grabbed a hold of the top of her face. She just cried until the Skinwalker stripped her head and she couldn’t cry anymore.
------
Kitty’s eyes snapped open- she’s barely able to breathe. Her hands immediately begin to feel all over her body- her face, her stomach, her leg. Then, she’s catapulting out of her tent, stumbling over it momentarily, and wrenching herself outside.
It was morning. Pale sunlight was filtering through the trees overhead. Birds were singing happily. Everyone seemed so calm, so at peace, while she stood breathing heavily and sweating. Jane looked at her worriedly.
“Are you alright, sweetheart?” She asked. “What’s wrong?”
“N- nothing…” Kitty said, spotting Joan sitting by the dying fire with her knees to her chest. “I’m fine.”
She walked over to Joan and sat beside her. The music director’s face is very grey.
“They didn’t believe me,” She whispered.
“What?’
Joan looked up at her. “I tried to tell them what happened and they didn’t believe me. They said it was a dream and it wasn’t real. But it couldn’t have been…” She shook her head and rested it back on her knees.
“Yeah…” Kitty said softly.
There was nothing to be done, however. They still had a day of camping, although nothing happened during the next night. That gave them both some reassurance, and they even started believing that it had been some crazy nightmare.
As everyone was driving home, Kitty felt a sting in her back and Joan felt a stab in her stomach. They exchanged fearful looks, then looked out the window and saw it standing between two trees, waving and wearing a horrid mix of their faces.

Summary: Patrolling becomes a lot more interesting for Todoroki.
Wordcount: 2108
There she is again, Todoroki thought as he patrolled usual route. Every time he walks by this small shop, there is this woman who keeps making odd faces at him. It’s so strange… and suspicious. Todoroki was starting to think she was planning something. He couldn’t read her expression at all… which isn’t really saying much for him, but still. It was odd.
There was always someone in the shop that would take the woman’s eyes off of Todoroki after a while and her expression would completely change to something pleasant and kind. He’s used to receiving looks from people, especially women. Midoriya had informed him that women find him quite handsome and that his aloof personality makes them swoon. But this is not the same look that he is used to.
There has been some activity lately where low-grade villains terrorize the shops in this area and other villains offer their protection from those villains for payment. Someone has been spying for this group of villains so they never do their activities when the heroes are on patrol. Todoroki is starting to suspect this woman that has been giving him this odd glare. But he has no evidence other than she looks at him funny.
A scream brought Todoroki out of his thoughts. Someone was running down the street; a woman shouted that someone had stolen her purse. Never an uneventful day as a hero.
   ~
You struggle to keep your eyes off of the two-toned off duty hero, standing in the grocery store; he had been staring at the two packs of soba noodles in his hands for the past five minutes... Your roommate had, yet again, threatened to lock you out of the apartment if you didn’t bring home soba noodles... Maybe if you go over nonchalantly and just grab the noodles, he won’t notice you.
Uuuughghghhghgh, he’s so fucking hot! Your eyes are practically glued to his arms, memorizing every curve of his muscles, exposed due to the short sleeve shirt he was wearing. It’s not fair; It was bad enough that he patrols by your store, distracting you. Now you have to worry about running into him at the grocery store. Though seeing him in his civilian clothes wasn’t bad; you get to see the muscles instead of having to imagine them from their movement underneath his hero costume.
Someone cleared their throat and you blink to see the hero, Shoto, looking at you with a raised eyebrow. You had been lost in thought, your arm was still outstretched towards the soba noodles… while staring at his bicep.
          “Can I help you?”
“N-n-n-n-no!” You pull your hand away like it had caught on fire. “Uh… bye!” You try to run away, face threatening to release the most painful blush you’d ever had. But… a hand grabs you and you are spun around to see the hero now hovering over you. You gulp.
His eyes narrow at you. “You are the girl from the shopping district. I have a few questions for you.” Your mind is screaming internally so loudly that you don’t notice the dark tone he spoke in. “I’ve seen you staring at me suspiciously when I go on patrol. Are you working with the group of villains terrorizing that area?”
   That startled you. “Wait, what?!”
He steps closer to you, his beautiful two-colored eyes becoming more intense. “I’ve noticed you stare at me with an odd expression. Why?”
“I uh… I do?” Do you make a face when you space out? Had you been making faces the whole time? Had you been you making a face just now? As the hero’s breath hit your face, your body went into panic-mode. You had been lusting after him for so long that it couldn’t decide if you should get closer or run. Your brain decided to talk and try to clear the mix up as you took a step back.
“I’m sorry! I swear I have nothing to do with the villains; I want them gone! They’ve broken my shop’s windows so many times because I don’t give them money.”
He followed you as you took another step. “Then why have you been staring at me?”
Still panicking, your brain decided to do the worst thing possible: tell the truth. “Cause I practically undress you with my eyes every time I see you! I can’t help it! I keep checking you out! You are unbelievably hot! Like every time I see you, my mind becomes totally lost in every dirty sexual fantasy I can think of!” You gasp, out of breath and shocked at what had just come out of your mouth. Both of your hands come up and slap across your stupid mouth before it could go into any more detail.
The hero blinked at you a few times, his expression nearly completely blank but his eyes wide with surprise. He takes a few steps away from you, almost like he was trying to escape. “Ah… ok.” He turned around and practically ran out of the aisle.
“My life… is over… someone, kill me… anyone.” You squat down on the ground, screeching into your hands. What the fuck is wrong with you?!
   ~
Midoriya looked up from the couch as he heard the door shut; he was reading a magazine with an article about Uravity in it. “Ah, Shochan, did you get the new wasabi flavored soba you wanted to try?” His eyes widened with concern when he saw Todoroki walk by, his face slightly flushed. “Are you okay? You look a little red.”
Todoroki gave him a curt nod as he put the groceries down on the counter. “Yeah. A woman just told me she thinks of dirty sex fantasies when she sees me.”
“Oh, oka-Wh-Whhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaat?!” Midoriya almost ripped his magazine in half.
   ~
For the next couple of days, you changed while Todoroki was on his patrol. You would stare at him till you noticed him looking and turn away as fast as possible, completely flushed from your face down to your neck. Todoroki found that this new development was actually… pretty cute. Now that he knew what you were thinking, as awkward as it was, he found it endearing and he felt more at ease as he walked.
One day he made a bold decision; he wanted to see if he could fluster you even more. What is it that Kaminari does when he flirts with women while on patrol or during interviews… ah, that, he thought for a moment.
As he came closer to your shop, he made sure not to look at you until the last possible moment. About to walk by, he turned to you, looked you straight in the eyes with a small smile and winked. Your face flushed faster than normal, eyes going wide, and he could tell you took a deep breath. He couldn’t help the chuckle that came out as he walked away with a little spring in his step. That felt strange… did I do it correctly? It was fun though. I wonder what expression I’ll get tomorrow.
Meanwhile, as the hero’s back was turned, you had fallen to your knees behind the counter. Your heart was racing. “What the fuck? Did he just wink at me? And smile? How? What? Why? Oh my god, stop being so fucking hot! I can’t even!” You squealed into your hands, completely unable to handle the smooth and subtle flirty wink that had possibly just been sent your way.
“Are you okay?” A concerned customer looked down at you.
   “No, I’m dying!”
          ~
The same villain group had begun hitting other districts, along with the one Todoroki patrols. Todoroki’s agency decided that they wanted the heroes to patrol in pairs, in civilian wear. Heroes from other agencies that weren’t generally seen in the area had started to help out as well.
Luckily for him, the person he was partnered up with was someone he knew very well. “It’s so cool we finally get to work together, Todoroki.” Kirishima slung a heavy muscular arm around Todoroki’s shoulder. In order to be less recognizable, Kirishima was wearing his hair down.
“Yes, it is nice to be with someone that I am familiar with in combat.” Todoroki adjusted his hat, keeping his hair tucked inside.
Kirishima let out a deep belly laugh as they continued their patrol. “That too, but we haven’t talked in a while. I know you and Midoriya are roommates still but I haven’t heard anything new about you.”
Todoroki was half listening to Kirishima as he talked; he was more focused on trying to see if you were at your shop. He is curious to know if you’ll recognize him in this disguise. Ah, there you were. Smiling at a customer as you handed them their purchases in a plastic bag. You seemed relaxed and cheery. Though, he’ll admit that he liked your flustered expressions much more.
“Yo, Todoroki, bro, whatcha looking at? You got this really happy expression on your face.” Kirishima came into Todoroki’s line of sight, cutting off his view of you.
Todoroki looked around Kirishima to catch another glimpse of you, but someone else was working the counter outside now. You must have gone inside the shop… Todoroki sighed as he continued on with the patrol. “Kirishima…”
   “Hmm?”
“I heard you are in a relationship now.” Kirishima choked on air at Todoroki’s straightforward statement. “How were you able to get to that point?”
“What do you mean?” Kirishima was completely thrown off by Todoroki’s choice of topic. He never thought he would ever be talking to the cool and collected Todoroki about romance.
“I mean, how do you start? Were you friends first or strangers? How do you express interest in a romantic relationship?” Todoroki listed off his questions without an ounce of embarrassment as Kirishima slowly became as red as his hair.
Kirishima nervously scratched the back of his head as he struggled to find the words to say. “Uh… well, I’m not the best person to ask; I’m a disaster when it comes to this kind of stuff. I’m still surprised they even said yes with the way I acted. Um, but I know you don’t have to be friends first to be interested. Just be honest and straightforward. Ask them to dinner so you can get to know them better.”
“How-” They were interrupted by people running and screaming. In front of the heroes were the exact villains they had been looking for. Three were trashing a convenient store while one was holding a woman down on the ground.
Kirishima hardened his body, now getting ready to charge. “Looks like we’ll have to continue this talk later.”
He took off running and tackled the man holding the woman down. Todoroki rushed into the store and found two store clerks huddled together behind the counter. He gave them a quick nod as he turned towards the rest of the store; there didn’t seem to be any other civilians. Once he had confirmed this, he quickly sent ice towards the low-grade villains and froze them in the midst of causing more destruction.
It was quick and easy; the villains were more like organized thugs than villains. Todoroki escorted the clerks out and met with Kirishima. “Man, I barely even handcuffed one guy and you already took out three.” Todoroki only shrugged at him till he noticed someone behind him. You. You had been the woman that was being held down outside.
The police came and collected the criminals. Apparently, you had tried to call for the pros before they caught you. Todoroki was half listening to the police officer as he watched an EMT check over you. Kirishima was standing with you, possibly praising you for how manly you were for fighting against the villain. Finally, you looked up, your eyes meeting his and your face instantly turning red. Honest and straightforward, huh?
Todoroki smiled to himself as he walked towards you, ignoring the police officer that was still talking to him and anyone else that tried to get his attention. His eyes were completely focused on you. You were squirming in your seat as he stopped two feet away. “Since you like to stare at me a lot, I thought you would like to stare some more over dinner, perhaps tonight?” He paused to take out a piece of paper and write on it before handing it to you with a wink like before. “Let me know.”
He walks away as you melt in your seat, clutching the note to your chest. Kirishima whistled.
          “Damn, now that was straightforward.”

『 dev patel. twenty-nine. cis man. he/him. 』 oh heavens, is that LOUIS BHATT from CHESTNUT DRIVE i see roaming around mapleview? minnie may’s always calling them -OBSESSIVE & -IMPATIENT. i happen to think they’re not that bad! they’re a pretty cool ARCHIVIST at MAPLEVIEW PUBLIC LIBRARY and every time i’ve seen them, they’ve always been +ORGANIZED & +RATIONAL. i hope i see them around again! 『 may. 21. est. she/her. 』
hello hello ! after some delay,, i am here,, w information on louis ! while my roommate’s boyfriend makes the weirdest noises i hate it !
backstory:
triggers: near-death/death, something that’s suicide attempt -adjacent but... not directly a suicide attempt because the end goal wasn’t actually death, terminal illness ( cystic fibrosis - but no, not 5 feet apart )
Louis was born and raised in Mapleview, NC. His parents had moved to the Carolinas after years in LA, finding that… maybe the reason they were having trouble conceiving was because of the stress of city life?
Perhaps that was true. Perhaps that wasn’t. It probably wasn’t. Indeed, it was probably just dumb luck that they finally succeeded when his mother was 36, a late pregnancy which prompted them to keep a close eye on little Louis’s health.
When he came out perfectly healthy on the 7th of December, they simply could not have been more joyous. So they celebrated him, born on a lucky day.
He started his life as a fun-loving guy! A kid who played with everyone turned into a teenager who had no shortage of friends. Being a bit of a stoner, he wormed his way into a tight-knit group… that was pretty much full of other stoners.
However, his fun-loving nature changed on a fateful day when he and his friends found a man, so close to death. They managed to get him to the hospital in time to save his life, but Louis was changed that day. Their hometown hero status didn’t mean much to Louis – no, he just wanted to become acquaintances with the man and figure out what it was he saw during those moments of half-death.
And so acquaintances they became. The man telling Louis that he saw nothing, recalled nothing, felt nothing… it brought both terror and peace to the young man.
It also brought morbid curiosity. He began withdrawing from his friends and family, really only continuing to speak to Adrien and their other friend (wc on main!) as they had actually been there. They’d shared that experience that Louis’s therapist called ‘trauma.’
A few months after the incident, his curiosity got the better of him. He didn’t hope to die – not really – but he hoped to come close. He stuck a knife into an electrical socket and… saw nothing until his parents found him – thank goodness – just in time.
And yet, he’d never been more at peace.
However, no one in his family was necessarily ‘good’ at dealing with problems. Instead ot talking about it, instead of sending him to a therapist, they all just pretended it never happened after they paid off the hospital bill. He wasn’t suicidal, just curious!
So he began applying to colleges – all was well! Although he was accepted into the Carolinas’ more prestigious universities, such as Duke and Wake Forest, he wound up attending his safety school out of adoration for its campus: University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA, s/o to myself because this is where I go!)
He began his studies with the intended double-major of Literature and History and he was doing well. He was shining in college, too distracted by Whitman’s ego to worry about the concept of death.
Until he met his college girlfriend, that is.
A victim of cystic fibrosis, Louis knew their time was likely limited to perhaps another decade and a half (unless scientific advancements were made – you see, he would’ve switched majors, but he wasn’t STEM-minded in the slightest). They decided they’d make the most of their time together and, as Louis was taught to do, largely ignore the elephant in the room.
To receive a Masters in Library Science (MLIS), he transferred to Appalachian State University (“App”) with his girlfriend by his side, earning her own Masters.
Things were simply beautiful. Everything was looking up. He felt just as much peace as he had in half-death, but it was in life!
But… complications got complicated!
A clinic had his girlfriend getting special treatment… but it also had her near other CF patients. And they couldn’t even be sure she wasn’t on the placebo! So, after a few treatments and instances of getting a bit too close with some of the other patients, her condition worsened and things… were not looking spectacular.
This was around the time Louis completed his degree at 25 (did I do the math right?). They initially had plans to marry after they completed their courses, but gave up any ideas for large weddings and were officiated by a friend who signed up online. Their plans of moving somewhere bigger – still in state, so as to make travel easier, but bigger, nonetheless – were also cut short. Louis’s parents advised him to do what they had done and return to Mapleview, a calm life that they thought had allowed them their pregnancy.
Louis figured it was an idea worth trying. It wasn’t as though it would improve her condition, but it would improve her overall quality of life, right?
When he was 27, she succumbed a bit early to her illness. And he was at peace with that. He missed her – dear god, he missed her – but she’d returned to the night sky, the stars that he could see.
However, his life has since become incredibly rigid and routine. His obsessions worsened after her death, as did his craving for cleanliness and overall order. Being an archivist was perfect for that, but was terrible for most other aspects of his life.
Yes, yes, his quality of life deteriorated.
He’s essentially become Jane Kerkovich-Williams from the iconic Happy Endings, suggesting better organization systems… in stores dedicated to organization. He no longer attends therapy, refusing to agree with their diagnoses. Because he’s fine. There are no problems. Indeed, quite the Type A.
But also on a sliding scale that could put him in a very Judah Mannowdog from the Bojack Horseman (why do I keep taking inspiration from this show-) box. Depends on the day.
tl;dr:
was a sociable kid and teenager. withdrew after finding a man on the brink of death with his friends and became lowkey obsessed with death. (suicide attempt-ish tw) stuck a knife in an electrical socket because he had to know what was beyond life, but not necessarily bc he wanted to die (end tw). everyone ignored that. went to unca and fell in luv w a girl who had cf. went to app state to gain an mlis. her disease worsened during a clinic. moved back to mapleview. she died. rip ip. wasn’t the typical Grieving Widower™ bc he figured he knew what was on the other side and it was nice! but,, his mental state did worsen and his obsessions, need for organization, and overall type-a demeanor amplified.

More Than Meets the Eye #11- Soak the Matrix in Lemon Juice and Break Out the Hairdryers
So, small problem.
Prowl realized he was in the wrong comic run and had to split.
But not before yelling at Orion about how stupid he thinks this National Treasure bullshit he’s trying to pull is, and makes a request that Chromedome be left out of this whole mess.
Tumblr media
Why the fuck wouldn’t you tell him that?
Tumblr media
Bye, Prowl. See you later, I guess.
Chromedome and Roller have brought in some help for the heist from the local college. These students were super gung-ho about stealing the Matrix, not because they’re agents of political chaos, but because the Senator has his name attached to this little project. They feel a certain debt to the Senator, since he’s been doing his best to protect them from the Functionist Council.
Tumblr media
Gee, wonder who that truck is.
We get a little rundown of our new friends, while Chromedome has a minor temper tantrum in the background.
Tumblr media
Skids is also a member of this group, labelled as a super-learner, enough so that it may not even be a voluntary thing on his part.
In the present day, Swerve’s returned from stealing things from Trailcutter’s room, apparently totally unaware of what’s happened to his roommate. You’d think someone would have gotten in contact with him about that.
Tumblr media
I mean, maybe? You did say you liked purple.
Swerve lets it slip that this isn’t the only story time circle Rewind’s hosted in an attempt to get Rung’s brain back up to speed… which makes me wonder just how often the medical staff on board the Lost Light actually check on their patients, if Ratchet had been surprised that this event was happening today.
Swerve makes fun of Tailgate for needing to open up the wiki so he can keep track of what’s going on, then goes over to call Rung the wrong name. Swerve is very lucky Rung is essentially in a coma right now, because that’s probably the only thing keeping him from trying to strangle our resident barkeep.
Whirl helps Rung express himself by playing with his eyebrows, a trait which, now that I think about it, probably only exists for expressive purposes, considering that his eyes are covered by his glasses and we can’t see their shape.
Rewind saves Rung from being played with, perhaps solely because he’s a historical constant.
Tumblr media
So you’re saying Rung gets around. Nifty.
Rewind decides that they’ve taken enough of a break and it’s time to get back to the juicy stuff, completely blowing off Ratchet’s professional opinion about what to do with Rung.
Nothing gets in the way of story time.
Nothing.
In the past, Orion Pax is poking Skids in the face, specifically in his mini Matrix tattoo, which is giving him ideas. Skids is a little weirded out, but this isn’t about Skids, now is it? Chromedome goes to pay a visit to a coworker to get things set for the madness that’s about to unfold.
Tumblr media
My boy! My beautiful boy!
Yes, Ironfist, before shooting himself in the head and having his spirit broken by the horrors of direct combat, used to be a cop. Everyone’s a cop in IDW, at least for a little while. He’s also missing his faceplate, and isn’t nearly as cute in Milne’s style, but we can’t have it all all the time, now can we?
Chromedome’s feeding into Ironfist’s fanboy nature, pretending to be just as much as a nerd as he is to call in a favor. In exchange for getting Ironfist’s Delta Magnus body pillow back from their boss, Chromedome needs to borrow Ironfist’s one-to-one replica of the Matrix.
Tumblr media
I mean, you practically are already, but the sentiment is appreciated. We haven’t gotten to the point where we’re comfortable with thank you kisses yet, and it’ll be a while still.
While the Senator and company gush over Chromedome’s good job, Roller pulls Ratchet and Orion over to the side for a little chat.
Roller doesn’t trust the Senator. He’s done his research, weighed their options, and he really isn’t sure about this guy. Turns out that Orion isn’t the only guy who’s been modified to fit a Matrix without his consent. Honestly, I’m with Roller on this one; that’s mad creepy to be loading the bases like that.
Orion doesn’t really see it that way, though.
Tumblr media
Only one of these things was ever a secret, my guy. You worked with Whirl, he was in your precinct for crying out loud! At least he admits to his ignorance.
Back in the present, we check in on Rodimus’ investigation. Looks like we’ve got our answer on who tried to kill Red Alert.
It was Red Alert.
First Aid explains.
Tumblr media
Fascinating.
Rodimus fails to see why exactly Red Alert would choose to go this route, because A) he doesn’t know that Red Alert knows about the dirty little secret in the basement, and B) despite probably having depression, may not be the type to have suicidal ideation. It’s true, those types of people exist!
Tumblr media
Oh, this is a savior’s complex thing. Nyon really fucked you up, huh Rodimus?
After Ultra Magnus gets Rodimus to stop accosting the doctor, they’re faced with a sort of moral quandary.
Tumblr media
IDW’s More Than Meets the Eye! Come for the space adventure, stay for the rumination on whether it’s ethical to allow a mentally ill person the right to self-termination!
After consulting with Drift, because it’s always important to get a second opinion, Rodimus agrees to put Red Alert in cold storage, to remain until their quest is finished and they’re in a place that’s better for his mental health.
Anyway, back to the heist plotline.
Orion breaks down the plan for everybody: the basilica is nearly impossible to break into, but they’re going to do it anyway, because this is the past, and we as the reader already know that things go alright because Chromedome, Ratchet and Skids are still here and Optimus Prime came into being.
Tumblr media
Roller will hack the sky spies, make things look all hunky dory, while the rest of the boys magic carpet up to the top of the building.
Tumblr media
Looking mighty relaxed there, Glitch.
Glitch is probably sitting down to conserve as much energy as possible, because his job sucks some major chrome- he’s got to keep the detector beams off, using his outlier ability, but it really friggin’ hurts for him to do it. He’s going to have to do it for an extended period of time.
Glitch really got the short end of the stick in all this, didn’t he?
Tumblr media
Okay, so I was wrong, Skids uses his grappling hook a fucking shit-ton in MTMTE. Today, he’s going to use it to lower Orion down into the basilica so he can crack open a cold one and steal the Matrix.
Tumblr media
Things can never just be simple, can they?
Over on Roller’s end of the workflow, Chromedome’s irritated that he’s got to babysit the Senator. Chromedome spends a good portion of this story arc irritated at stuff, in case you couldn’t tell.
In this case, the Senator agrees that having Chromedome stay back was probably unnecessary. Or at least, he did, until he noticed that the Academy of Advanced Technology is burning to the ground on live TV.
Then the wall explodes.
Tumblr media
Things can never just be simple, can they?
Back on the front lines, Orion tags out and Ratchet tags in, because the locks on the Matrix are mad crazy hard to undo and they just don’t have time for pussyfooting around with all that. Ratchet is apparently a master lock pick. Must be those magic medic hands.
Even the Matrix being full of Fiji water is no match for our CMO, as he makes quick work of the bomb and removes it. Hooray! Now we just need to pull him back up and we’ll be all set to leave.
Or at least, we would be, if Glitch wasn’t the dumbest bitch alive.
Tumblr media
Ratchet braces for an explosion.
And braces.
And braces.
But it never comes, because Windcharger has magic arms and zero patience for facing his own mortality.
The boys haul up Ratchet and the bomb, fly on out of there, then Orion jumps off the slab they’re floating on because Roller was supposed to call and he hasn’t. I’m going to hazard a guess and say that Roller might be a bit preoccupied at the moment, and it isn’t by the television.
Tumblr media
That is a BIG BOY.
“Cleanse and control” was what Trepan’s idiotic tattoo said, so there’s a good chance that our buddy the Senator is about to go the way of Pious Maximus in a minute. Or at least, he would if Orion Pax didn’t embrace is inner monster truck and punch a hole in the big boy holding the Senator like Lennie does a rabbit.
Kroma isn’t one to let the opposite side have all the cards though, as he holds a gun to Roller’s head and suggests that the Senator be given to him, lest we be down a cop in this story that’s simply awash with them. The Senator, being the nice guy that he is, goes willingly to his doom.
Tumblr media
Be a lot easier if we knew your name, bud.
The Senator is taken away, but Kroma leaves Orion with the other big boy, and he’s not playing nicely. Orion helps himself by way of domestic terrorism.
Tumblr media
But that’s not the end of the story! Oh dear no!
After the explosion, Orion unearths Chromedome, and they make tracks for the Institute. Small issue with that though:
Tumblr media
Well, dang.
Thus ends the tale of the Matrix heist, the mysterious Senator, and Chromedome’s awkward relationship with Prowl. Our storytelling session ends with the sound of the alarm, and everyone runs off to see just what the hell’s gone wrong now. Only Skids hangs back to take Rung to the medibay, but not before trying one last thing to help his partner in vent-crawling out.
Tumblr media
Man, all they had to do was annoy him and everything would have been fine? Rewind’s going to feel so silly for all that work he put into this.
Back in the past, Orion’s digging through the remains of the Rodion police station, when a robot comes up to him, saying that they have a mutual friend who asked him to find Orion if he ever went missing.
The mutual friend was the Senator.
And the robot is Zeta, who would become Zeta Prima.
The Senator was really playing the field with all these Matrix reformattings.
Speaking of the Senator, he’s just arrived at a The Institute, where they’ve decided to not only shadowplay him, but also empurata his whole deal just to be assholes. He just wanted to be beautiful, on top of conniving, but I guess we won’t be having any of that anymore. Not that it’ll matter.
Because vanity is illogical.
Tumblr media
No wonder Whirl’s so goddamn angry all the time.

B lea se, pblea se give us a full continuation of the Cameraman comic I beg 😔🙏
Summary: After accidentally growing to the size of a giant, Cameraman makes some poor decisions that lead him into colossal trouble.
A written continuation of my one page Cameraman comic!

It wasn't uncommon for the Society for the Shellacking of Souper Boris's HQ to suffer considerable damage on occasion, especially since there were three villains living there. Plotting their next big hit with varying degrees of ingenuity and force, which often left things quite the mess in general.
But nothing that the big burly wolf with the volatile temper, or even the twisted demoness with sharp tongue and coiled arms ever did, could come so close as to compare with the absolute madness of Cameraman's more, shall we say, cinematic plots…
It was true that he was the least aggressive and troublesome of the trio when working with them in causing mischief. More often than not he even opted for the easier things in their plans, like petty thievery and slight vandalism, while the Brute and Miss Twisted handled the flashier things that really got the cops angry with them.
When he did things solo however… Well he'd wanted to make it big as a movie director once, and it showed.
His one-man plans were convoluted and honestly quite ambitious.
They also ended with him wrecking the base with whatever invention he came up with that week.
Never on purpose really! He was just a little clumsy.
Although, at this very moment, he was anything but little...
By his reasoning, the plan would have been flawless. Finish calibrating his shrink ray that took him weeks to construct, use one of the Society's inconspicuous vehicles to cart it all the way to the city, and then use it to shrink Steven Spigberg's annoyance of a studio all the way down to miniature size. Knock it down to its actual level, since it did nothing but hash out the same stale unnecessary sequel plots over and over again.
A spectacular lesson in humility, or at least Cameraman had envisioned it as such.
He hadn't accounted for accidentally bumping and reversing the controls, causing his machine to zap him instead of the test subject he'd been placing upon a little pedestal (just to see if he didn't accidentally disintegrate his target), and ending up in a completely avoidable colossal sized mishap instead.
But then he supposed he could still make part of the plan work. After all, the idea was that he'd be able to fit the studio in his hand…
"Oof… My head…" he could really do without the aches, but then again he'd just grown a whole lot in mere seconds. The fact he hadn't simply exploded should be more than reason to overlook the growing pains. Patting his own head carefully to check if he hadn't cracked his casing, he felt his pinky brush against something odd and that should be there. "Hm?"
Feeling over it with his index finger, Cameraman carefully searched for some manner of grip before carefully pinching the unknown object between two fingers and bringing it over to his lens to inspect it.
To his great surprise it was the Society's base. Mostly intact, although missing a large part of the bottom from him outgrowing it. The upper floor looked intact enough, albeit the horn fixture he was holding onto was now bent from him gripping it.
"My goodness it's so small… or rather, I'm the one who's quite big…" he squinted, shutter zooming in on the damaged windows. He could sort of see his two roommates staring out at him with expressions he couldn't quite make out. "Oh! Hello there, sorry for the state of the base. Things took quite the unexpected turn as you can see..."
Rather than get a reply, both of his partners in crime seemed to huddle up in a corner and cower.
That was odd… Missy and Brute weren't the type to be intimidated. Especially not by him. Maybe it was the heights.
"Right… I'll set you down now. I've much to do still, even if not everything has gone according to plan." He carefully set the damaged base back onto the swamp grounds, being mindful of the shallows so his two friends didn't end up sinking and drowning. "It's as they say. The show must go on!"
Once the base was safely on the ground, Cameraman began standing up. He was surprised by the sensation of vertigo as he did, groaning as nausea hit him.
He felt… Heavy. Stumbled a bit as he righted himself, and nearly toppled all over again. Had gravity increased on him? Probably… his feet were sinking into the marshy ground as well, so his new height and weight were not any easier to handle on such unstable terrain.
"Walk it off, it'll be fine you worrywart… Just a matter of getting used to this." he shook his head and took a few tentative steps forward. His shutters clicked in annoyance as he kicked up the murky water as he moved. "My poor socks are going to be soaked through… I hope to dry up once I've reached the city. It wouldn't do to enact revenge while drenched… I might catch a cold."
He kept on walking, finding it steadily easier to move as long as he kept himself going. Just a matter of getting used to it as he'd thought.
Luckily his growth hadn't just brought unpleasant side effects. It had greatly improved his perspective as well!
He could just about see the big city in the distance and he was quite excited to look it over up close.
The once-little camera toon had seen the rooftops plenty of times (mostly from being either thrown by his partners in crime or from being carried by that no-show lupine interloper, and then a chowder enthusiast of an angel), but never at this scale. He assumed it would likely be like looking down at an impressive maquette, a much more detailed one than the miniatures he'd whittled out for the base's planning room (which had been reduced to rubble he was sure). More detailed. More deserving of more than a slight glance.
Wouldn't hurt to take a few photos before he took what he wanted.
-
Bouillonburg wasn't the largest of the cities in the country, but it was still considered a major location in of itself. It was home to several hundreds of toons, had multiple quaint businesses, and at least two very nice parks to fill in the picturesque idea of an urban zone.
The perfect place for a myriad of Pluto's youngest legions to prove their worth through acts of both evil and mischief.
Today however, trouble presented itself not in a grinning imp with a head shaped like a half-moon, but in something tremendously massive lumbering towards the unsuspecting city at a slow but long-reaching pace.
The first warning was a slight tremor spaced out like rhythmic thumping. The kind that caused liquids to ripple in their containers.
Then the intensity of the shaking gradually climbed, and people began to grow nervous when objects began to fall off shelves, or when the glass windows began to creak and shake against their frames.
When the shadow of what could only be considered a colossal sized monster fell upon the city, that's when folks really started to panic.
Crowd dispersal went as you'd usually see on a disaster flick, with lots of screaming and running as several hundreds of toons attempted to flee the giant's humongous steps. Not that Cameraman noticed this.
He was much too distracted staring at all the buildings he was so used to look up at, rather than examining from up and above.
"This is all so very adorable!" He marveled as he peered into an office building, squinting at the many workers in their little cubicles. "I wish I could make miniatures as detailed as the real deal…"
He reached over to poke one of the windows, and winced when his finger went through.
"Oops…" he withdrew his finger and stared down at the many shards of glass embedded in it. It didn't hurt, the fabric had kept it from piercing skin, but it had still startled him. He was so focused on it he didn't see the toons inside running for the stairs and elevators in pure terror. "That's a lot more fragile than I thought… I should refrain from touching glass."
Shaking off the shock, Cameraman's gaze went downwards and his attention was caught by a phone booth.
Crouching down he peered at it with his curious lens.
At his regular size he needed his portable step ladder to reach the phone (yes he was quite short, so what?), but at this height he was more than capable of reaching over the rooftops of the tallest buildings.
"Well it's not like I need to make a call right now either way… But it sure looks charming." He focused on it and took a picture. His flash went off with a loud crackle, all around him more toons fled from the noise and bright light that hurt their eyes.
With more effort than should be necessary, Cameraman got back onto his feet and carried on his merry way. He stopped on occasion to take more photos of the many buildings and tiny structures.
Completely oblivious to the damage he was causing as he trekked forward.
His footsteps caused the ground to quake violently, the sound of his reverberating voice made glass crack and ears ring, and his weight was splitting concrete apart as if it were made of styrofoam.
To him this was all in good fun. Good harmless fun, because he wasn't antagonizing anyone.
Just seeing the sights and appreciating his new perspective on life.
This quickly changed when he reached his destination.
"Right… There it is." The object-headed toon rubbed his hands together eagerly as he caught sight of his target. Steven Spigberg's studio. That fat swine's precious little cash grab factory was about to get literally uprooted by the very toon that horrid film director scoffed at and turned away. "Let's see who's insignificant when I'm the one owning your precious little studio…"
Sights set Cameraman walked on, not once looking where he was treading and his thick shoes making quick work of benches and parked cars (and really anything else) that were unfortunately in his path. It didn't occur to him that he should be watching his step.
The studio was nestled between another office building and a coffee shop that also serviced object and object-head toons (a rarity since most others disliked non-food based smells near their pastries and beverages of choice). It had the best hydroquinone and nicest rolls of film he'd ever had, so it was a shame such a blight ruined it for him.
He wondered briefly what they'd build on the soon to be vacant spot. Hopefully a book store to compliment the aesthetic of the coffee shop.
"Let's see… there's going to be pipework in there, so best to go down and up, like carefully picking a flower, roots and all." He rested the back of his hand on the ground and pressed his fingers against the very bottom of the studio and then, in one swift motion, he dug his fingers under and pulled up. He expected the building to just pop out of the ground with ease, not for his hand to pass through like it was made of sand. "O-oh!"
Startled by the destruction of the building he'd planned to steal, Cameraman pulled his arm back abruptly. Swinging it to the right and crashing right through a section of the office building.
Yelping in fright he moved back, his left foot coming down on top of the coffee shop and crushing it as if he'd stepped on a cardboard box. Bringing his hands up in horror Cameraman stepped back once more in a panic. He stared down at the rubble in dismay.
"Oh goodness… I… I didn't mean to do that!" He knelt down hoping to find a way to correct his mistake, but as soon as he grabbed hold of any solid looking debris they crumbled in his grasp into fine dust. "F-fiddlesticks…"
He was too big to fix what he broke.
Looking back at the slightly damaged office building, Cameraman stood back onto his feet and peered inside. The stairs and elevators were blocked by rubble and there were several people trying to unblock the way out.
"Oh… wait I can help you down!" He reached in, hoping that helping these people would compensate for ruining their workspace but, as soon as the toons saw his hand they began scrambling away, their high pitched shrieks barely registering in his audio receptors. The fear in their movements however… "You don't need to be afraid. That was an accident I swear!"
He tried to reach the group, leaning forward just a little bit more. Then gravity caught up with him and the camera toon's shutter widened as he realized too late that his balance was way off. He tumbled forward, taking out the rest of the building with him.
"AUGH!!!" He hit his head hard on the ground, a sharp pain in his shoulder causing him to instinctively prime his laser and blast the nearest "threat".
Except there wasn't a threatening foe causing him any harm. Just the helpless cityscape.
Taking a second to sit up and shake his aching head Cameraman looked down at his shoulder, wincing when he saw a long metal bean stabbing through it.
His gaze then locked on with the damage he'd caused up ahead.
There was fire, a lot of it, and just now he could make out the terrified city folk scrambling all around like scared ants.
Glancing around at the path he'd taken, the object-headed toon noticed all the destruction he'd caused while having his silly little fun.
"Oh no…" he was a villain, that much he accepted. But he'd never really done something so terrible that it hurt several hundred people on such a scale.
He'd never killed anyone before, or dreamt of doing such a thing.
Looking down at the three buildings he'd crushed, and the ones currently ablaze, he doubted that was true anymore. "This wasn't what I wanted…"
He needed to get out of the city, before he destroyed something or hurt anyone else.
Looking around once more however… well easier said than done.
The path ahead was on fire, the way back was already in quite the state, and the only other exit he could see looked a little narrow. Still it was worth risking considering all the people heading towards where he'd come from in the hopes of escaping. Escaping, as if he were doing this on purpose…
Narrow streets it is. He'd just have to suck in his belly and keep his arms up for however long it took to get past this new hurdle. Hopefully his arms wouldn't tire before he was clear.
Taking a deep breath, Cameraman stepped forward, now very aware of just how cramped the tiny sidewalks and roads were.
"Oof…" he winced as his heel just about crushed the front of a parked car "I hope that was insured…"
His knee caught the side of a tree, snapping it like a twig, and he pulled his hand away from the way of a power line as he tried to maneuver through the streets.
Sideways should do the trick…He sucked in his gut and began side-stepping through the cramped pathway he'd picked.
What was it with apartment complexes and tiny balconies that faced alleyways?
The escape ladders he could understand, but why the balconies?
The camera toon groaned as his chest and back got poked and scratched by hard edges and sharp rails.
His aching shoulder was already bothering him enough.
"Just stay calm and you'll be through in no time…" he told himself as he kept on moving. And then he gulped nervously as he felt the alley narrow further. "... Oh this is a problem."
Against his better judgement he continued… And immediately stopped as he felt his hips jammed against two buildings.
Trying to push or pull away made both buildings shake dangerously.
"... Come on…" his arms were starting to tire. He needed to figure out how to get away without breaking anything else. Glancing down to see if there was a safer way to unwedge himself, his shutters fell upon one of the balconies of the building ahead of him. He focused on a tiny lady surrounded by several flowers that was staring up at him with wide eyes. "... Uh… hello?"
The lady shrieked and immediately started throwing her potted plants at him.
He winced and kept his lens well away from her range. Impressive that she thought a few hits with a few vases would save her from something more than twice her own size, but also quite annoying.
"Please stop." If he tried anything he might just hurt her, and honestly that wasn't really his style. Taking punishment like this was also not his style. "If I could I'd be out of your hair already."
He leaned back from another hit and yelped as he felt his back bump against the other building. The pressure suddenly giving away and sending him tumbling back like a house of cards falling in on itself. Kicking up dust and debris up into the air around him.
Once the cloud settled he sighed.
Great, at this rate he'd be known as Klutzzilla, destroyer of private property...
Blinking his shutters he looked back up at the lady with a glare. She seemed to get the hint and fled back inside of her apartment.
"Right…" he went back to the laborious chore of getting back on his feet. He was really starting to get tired of this repetitive charade.
If it weren't the guilt keeping him from bashing through the city to get back home he would have already done it. "No, no that's not the correct way to do this, don't let this get to your head… the Society only needs one big brute…"
He wondered what his two friends might be doing. Likely fixing up the base and waiting to chew him out for making a mess of things.
They might want to wait for him to tell them how to rebuild his shrink ray so that he'll be easier to scold, rather than both yelling up at him.
Back up and at it again, Cameraman left what remained of the alleyway and began to tiptoe over the various urban obstacles. Phone booths, more parked cars, benches, the occasional straggler running by and performing an impressive Wilhelm impression, and even a kiosk or two (the first one he couldn't help snap a picture of, despite the circumstances everything still looked gosh darned cute to him!). It was a little like being a child all over again, playing hopscotch.
Only someone had strewn legos and other toys all over the rectangles.
He was also not particularly good at hopscotch, and jumping around with an injured shoulder was really not a good experience.
The people and infrastructures were also not liking the impact of each jump.
Cameraman winced when several clothes lines and other miscellaneous objects began to fall from the sides of buildings.
"And they say misfortune only doubles on Friday the 13th, the moment I gained a few feet I've been nothing if not plagued by bad luck!" He poked the metal bean protruding from his shoulder and fought back the urge to scream. "I hope this doesn't get infected. I'd be very upset with myself if that happened… or worse, what if I get tetanus?! My shots aren't due until Thursday!"
Well if the clinic he frequented hadn't yet given out and collapsed from all his mucking around that is…
"Ok Cameraman, don't freak yourself out like this... Think of home." Yes, home, away from this poor city. Back with his friends who'd no doubt take pity on him as soon as they saw him hurt.
Villains or not, they weren't heartless spawns of evil… err, well at least two of them. But even Missy had a heart. They weren't monsters. "Yes home. Home…. The swamp is that way, just avoid stepping on anyone."
Renewed vigor carried him forward, only stopping to make sure fleeing citizens weren't accidentally crushed underfoot.
He really did not want murder to be added to his criminal records.
Although he was pretty sure involuntary manslaughter would end up there somewhere after this ordeal was dealt with.
"There we go, nice and easy. No more tomfoolery." He was pleased with how the streets were opening up. The smoke back there was getting pretty thick in the air though... Was the wind blowing his way or was he imagining it?
It was irritating his ventilation system for sure. Irritating it quite a bit actually.
"Gosh darn soothy smoke!" He scrubbed at the discrete vents irritably, almost like someone scratching their nose.
He shook his head vigorously, finding it difficult to see now that his shutter and lens were welling up with lubricant, trying to dislodge the sooth filtering in through the seams. "Oh it itches!"
Helplessly scrubbing at both the leaking lens and his ventilation system, Cameraman was suddenly overcome by the enormous need to sneeze.
Uh-oh.
"Do not sneeze, you know what happens when you sneeze!" His desperate scrubbing and scratching increased in intensity as he tried to prevent the inevitable. The moment the mechanism to prime his laser sight clicked on, he immediately looked up as a way to prevent further devastation. "A-ah… Aah...AACHOO!!!!"
The laser shot out of his lens as he stumbled back, zooming upwards at high speed and hitting a previously unnoticed news blimp that had been flying overhead. The object-headed toon said nothing as he watched the darn thing fall out of the sky like a swatted fly, and collide with another building further away before bursting into flames.
He covered his face and groaned in frustration. Was there anything in this city he hadn't broken yet?!
"Dang it…" If not take pity on his physical injuries, then surely Missy and Brute would take pity on his bruised ego instead.
-
It took far too long to get out of the (ruined) city. No matter how careful he'd tried to be, Cameraman had simply brought tremendous devastation with each tentative step towards being home free.
If he stopped to think about it, it made perfectly logical sense.
He was used to his actual stature and weight, so suddenly becoming some sort of titan had completely tipped the scales for him.
His regular clumsiness cranked up tenfold as he tried to navigate a world that was suddenly more fragile than he was accustomed to.
Of course in his current state he didn't really have the time to sit around for a moment of introspection, nor to contemplate on the fact he'd been an idiot and gone through with an idea that was doomed from the start.
From the moment he'd bumped the controls to this very moment in time, where he was tiredly stumbling back to the Society's HQ.
The metal beam stuck in his shoulder yet to be pulled out, since every instinct told him that doing that right now wouldn't be good for him. He needed to be sure he had help to deal with that.
And, as that thought entered his mind, something slowly clicked.
Stopping in his tracks Cameraman looked around in confusion.
Where… where was the base?
He was sure as all heck that he'd placed it in the shallows, and that was right there, next to that rotten log wedged by that one rock that looked like a hippo.
"Where…?" He scratched his flash's connection point in confusion as he glanced around. "I could have sworn I placed it here…"
He squinted, focusing on the murky water before crouching down to try to look for the distinct devil shaped building.
He even went so far as turning on his light, but it didn't pierce deep into the filthy water's depths.
Racking his memory to be sure he wasn't mistaken, he recalled placing the base right there and leaving.
He'd stumbled a bit, but he hadn't moved anywhere near the base, just splashed up a little water over his boots and… and…
His building sized boots…
Horror struck him as it suddenly dawned on him that what he'd perceived as little splashes were likely waves several feet in height, with the crashing force of a freightliner colliding with a steam boat…
"Oh no…" he carefully placed his hands in the water and began to feel around for the base, dragging himself forward and searching desperately not just for home, but for his friends as well. "Please be ok!! Please be ok!!!"
All that came up was random junk people had carelessly thrown in the swamp. The SSSB's base was nowhere to be found, and neither were Cameraman's only two friends for the matter… likely washed out into the deepest part of the swamp.
Likely… likely dead, from being trapped in a sinking base, because their friend was an incompetent fool.
"Oh goodness… no, I… I didn't…" the combination of the pain on his shoulder and exhaustion made him stop his fruitless search. As realization sunk in deeper, grief took hold. "I didn't mean to…"
Sniffling loudly, the camera toon hid his leaking lens in his hands and began to cry.
He'd ruined everything because of some stupid vendetta against a film studio! And now he'd be stuck as a klutz of a giant, alone and cold forever!
Sobbing loudly into his hands, Cameraman didn't notice the sounds of even splashes as someone rowed towards him, and was too caught up in his own sadness to register something beginning to tap against his knee.
He thought it was probably just flotsam that he'd loosened during his desperate rummaging.
When the tapping was replaced with a sharp jab, however, he did pull his hands away and rub at his lens to clear up the tears.
Staring up at him looking a complete tired mess, were Miss Twisted and Brute, both standing atop their base which they'd strapped to some sort of bizarre makeshift raft they'd fashioned up of logs, branches and whatever they could find that could make it as buoyant as possible.
The rows they'd improvised were also just several sticks tied together, and Missy had used the gripping end of hers to poke him to get his attention.
He was so dumbstruck he didn't say anything, which seemed to annoy the demoness.
"CAM YOU BETTER BE READY FOR A WALLOPING BECAUSE ONCE WE FIX UP THIS MESS I'M GONNA BEAT YOU SO HARD OVER THE HEAD YOU'LL BECOME AN INSTANT CAMERA INSTEAD!" He could just barely make out her high pitched screeching, but lord if it wasn't the most beautiful sound he'd ever heard! Shutters welling up all over again, the object-headed toon carefully scooped up the base from beneath the water and carefully brought it closer.
"HEY PUT US DOWN! WE'RE NOT A TOY YOU BIG… Big… Cammy are you crying?" The embers of Miss Twisted's ire were quickly extinguished by concern as she caught sight of the big fat tears dripping out of his lens.
"I THOUGHT YOU WERE BOTH DEAD!" He cried out, choking back another sob as he watched them both flinch and grab at their ears in pain. "P-pardon my outburst… I'm just so relieved I… I thought I'd drowned you both accidentally!"
"No, but that almost happened! Cam what were you thinking, making yourself into some big behemoth? How's that gonna help you at all?!" She tapped her foot impatiently. "Take it from a demon pal, the bigger they are, the harder they fall! I've seen archdemons topple like dominoes because they thought bigger was better… it's a stupid macho sentiment that ends in tears and humiliation."
"This wasn't what I was going for, believe me… I err… I merely miscalculated the calibration of my machine and this sort of… Ended up being the result." He looked as sheepish as one could without an actual face.
"You messed up and tried to save face uh?" She deadpanned as she dropped her arms again at her sides. Brute merely watching the exchange.
"Yes…" he admitted hesitantly as he glanced back towards the city. He could still see the smoke. "In hindsight, I should have realized that was foolish of me… Where's the fun in being a villain if there's no city left to practice villainy upon?"
"Cameraman destroy whole city?!" Brute gawked up at him in dismay.
"Not ALL of it… just err… 75%?" An explosion in the distance made him flinch. "Make that 95%..."
"I'll say… there's also something frigging stuck to your arm!" Missy pointed out, grimacing at the sight of the embedded metal beam currently still on his person.
"I know… I didn't want to touch it until I knew for sure I could have it looked at… which I can't right now." He also didn't want to touch it again. It really did hurt quite a bit when he poked it!
"Uh… how do fix Cameraman?" Brute asked. "Me no think lab ok…"
"No, no it's not. Cammy crushed it with his big fat butt." Missy groaned. "Please tell me you know how to rebuild your machine so we can revert this…"
"I do recall how to recreate it, yes. However, at this size I can't do so myself…" he carefully set down the base onto his knees so that he could rest his arm a bit. Making sure to stabilize it, he brought his knees closer to himself and leaned his head down so that now his lens was overing close to his two friends.
His shutter clicked shut as both reached up to pat the rim lightly in an attempt to comfort him. "I know you've likely gone through an ordeal already due to my carelessness… but could you perhaps build it for me? I really don't think it'd be wise for me to ruin any of the building materials."
"So needy, you big dumbo…" the demoness chuckled "Fine, we'll clean up your mess. But you're so doing our chores for the next month."
"And help with Brute's and Miss's plans!" The beefy wolf added.
"Deal." He held out his pinky so they could shake on it. Once both the smaller toons grabbed it with their little (cute) mitts, he carefully raised it up and down.
"Right! Off to work we go!"
-
It ended up being more of a one girl job to build a replica of the ray gun that Cameraman had created, so while Miss Twisted busied herself with that particular task, Brute had gone ahead and repaired the base. He was used to doing it by now, with just how often it got wrecked.
It was only natural he was picking up a few tricks on how to fix it up nice and quickly, without sacrificing stability and comfort.
He thought it was nice to have a home for a change, rather than some dingy alleyway or a prison cell, so he made sure to maintain it when needed. He was sure his two friends appreciated that tender act on his part. His way of showing a softer less thuggish side while still getting to show off his impressive musculature.
Call him a meathead all you wanted, he liked showing off what got him somewhere in life (through his own effort).
Once done, Brute nodded to himself in satisfaction before going to check in on the others. He came out just in time to see the metal beam once piercing through his friend's shoulder crashing down into the water, and then the femme fatale of the group firing a well aimed energy beam at the wounded object-head looming over her.
Brute covered his one eye to avoid looking at the bright light, and then uncovered it once the world dimmed back to its normal lighting. Not that there was that much sunlight left anymore, the sun was setting pretty quick as it was late in the afternoon.
Still he could just about make out a familiar tiny figure just hovering up in the air for a few brief seconds, before gravity caught up and brought him back down and crashing into the freezing water.
"10 points for that spectacular belly flop! What's your score, big guy?" Missy grinned impishly as she watched their friend resurface and splutter a bit from the shock of getting drenched by the swamp's murky embrace.
"Meh… Brute gives it an 8. Brute has seen better." The lumbering wolf shrugged as he moved over to pick up the trembling toon that was barely able to lift his arm. The wound looked very nasty and needed to be disinfected asap now that it had come into contact with a direct source of filth and bacteria "Cameraman need nurse Brute now. Fix up arm real good!"
"T-thank you big fella… I do f-feel a little woozy…"
"You boys go on ahead, I'm getting rid of this hunk of metal… More trouble than it's worth." She pointed at the ray gun "From now on, no mucking around with sizes!"
"Yes ma'am" both replied at the same time before Brute carried the injured Cameraman inside.
Missy watched them go before simply reaching over to the main panel and ripping out the wiring, disabling the miserable piece of mechanical junk for good. Once that was done, she simply kicked the ray gun into the water and dusted herself.
Satisfied with the deed, she briefly glanced towards the thick smoke in the distance and shook her head.
"What a shame... But hey, at least Cammy brought some scrap metal back…" she glanced at the half submerged beam. It was stained by whatever chemicals the little guy had to pass for blood, but it was an easy enough thing to clean off "Should get to stripping that before it gets too rusty…"
She went inside looking for that one big saw she'd gotten as a reward from Papa Pluto, for ruining some rich snob's party by dumping laxatives into the punch.
That had been a fun night, and that saw could cut through almost everything including solid metal.
On her way back out, she peered into the Society's shared bedroom and nodded at Brute who had just walked out holding the first aid kit.
"How's that shoulder of his?" She asked.
"Cameraman will live. Him asleep now, like little baby." He stepped aside to show her this and, sure enough, there was the shorter of the three curled up in his drawer bed. Tucked in and capped lens tucked under his uninjured arm. It was kind of cute watching him sleep so peacefully after such a rough day.
"Aww… poor little guy tuckered himself out. Must have had a pretty long day playing in the city."
"Ah-yuh." Brute nodded in agreement as he set the kit aside. He looked back at her almost curiously "What do Brute and Missy do now?"
"Well I was gonna strip that beam for scrap, but that'll be noisy… Cammy needs his rest, so why don't we go to the city and loot some goodies while everyone is too busy to stop us?"
"Me like plan!"
"Knew you would, big guy! Come along then!" She made sure to carefully close the bedroom door, but not before looking at the sleeping camera toon one more time. Yeah, he'd earned his rest. "Sweet dreams, you little weirdo…"
And with that done, off they went to cause some more trouble.
All the while their friend dreamt of the simpler things in life, like causing minor mischief with his two (and only) greatest pals in the whole world.
No more dreaming too big, he'd stick with the small-fry stuff thank you very much!

From Me to You
Tumblr media
Summary: At one point all of them liked you, but there’s someone who has  kept their strong feelings for you this entire time. Different liking timelines, but one same boy. Seven anonymous letters with Seven boys, but ONE secret confession letter leaked. Who wrote the letter?
word count: 3k+
slty masterlist - prologue 1 - prologue 2
1 Mark Lee - The Childhood Best Friend 2 Huang Renjun - The Next Door Neighbor 7 Lee Jeno - The Basketball Captain 3 Lee Donghyuk - My Brother’s Roommate 5 Na Jaemin My Brother’s Best Friend 4 Zhong Chenle - My Astronomy Partner 6 Park Jisung My Dance Parter
Lee Jeno - The Basketball Captain
“Say that again Jisung,”
“Renjun and Jeno like you okay… please don’t tell them I told you, I’m going to be dead,”
“Well, what am I suppose to do now?”
“Uhhh… I don’t know,”
“Jisung!!!”
“Okay, first things first, does Jeno know you  like him?”
“Wait, I didn’t even tell you that I like Jeno???”
“Oh well uhm about that, you know why Renjun was here right?”
“No..?”
“You seriously can’t tell why?”
“... my brain is hitting its max capacity,”
“He was here talking about you and Jeno, and then he told me you liked Jeno,”
“Oh,”
“Jisung, what the hell is going on?”
“You want to hear the complete truth, or do you want me to omit,”
I stared at him with a confused angry face, and his eyes widened in terror and began to speak.
“Okay, so like when Renjun came here, he kinda like bawled his eyes out about you,”
“He cried?” I frowned.
“I don’t think you understand, Renjun is like super in love with you, if you can’t tell,”
“Well obviously not, if I believed his lie for not liking me,”
“I’m sure he didn’t want you to know, but it was bound to happen…”
“It’s just why would he lie to me about this?”
“Because how could he not? He knew you liked Jeno, he just assumed there was no point confessing is he knew you had feelings for someone else,
“I…”
“Wait? Did you or do you still like him?”
“I… I liked him yeah, how could you not? I just assumed he didn’t like me, and then Jeno came into the picture?”
“But what does that mean? Do you still have feelings for Renjun?”
“Is it wrong to like two people?”
“I think you’re confused, what does Jeno and Renjun mean to you?”
“Fuck, I don’t know anymore at this point, not when I know they both currently like me,” I sighed.
“Well you should figure it out soon, both of them won’t talk to each other…”
“I’m sorry what?”
“Renjun and Jeno got into an argument and now they won’t talk to each other,”
“Uhm why?”
“About that, remember that movie night when things went down?”
I nodded. “What about it?”
“Well after that whole thing, Jeno went off on Renjun in the groupchat and then Renjun went off on Jeno…”
“Because…”
“Renjun was suppose to confess to you, but then he never did.. Which made Jeno super mad,”
“He was going to confess to me?”
“Well yeah, Jeno gave up liking you because he knew how much Renjun was like in love with you, but after Renjun chickened out on confessing to you, Jeno lashed out and told him that he wasn’t going to give up on you anymore,”
“So it’s basically because of me,” “Well if you put it like that, yeah…” He trailed off.
“I think.. I think I'm gonna go home now,” I replied.
“Look, it’s not your fault, just remember that (y/n),”
“I mean obviously it is, if there are two boys fighting about me, that could ruin their friendship and the group,”
“Come one it’s not like that, just talk to them when you gather your thoughts, okay? Don’t blame yourself, but you need to talk to them,”
“Thanks, I’m gonna go now,”
Jisung put his hand on my shoulder and patted it, while he looked at me and smiled. I looked at him and smiled faintly and then left his house. He waved goodbye, but I had no energy to wave back so I turned around smiled faintly again and then left.
There were so many things that we’re going on in my head, Jeno liking me, Renjun lying to me, and only to find out he did like me, but at this point do I even like Jeno? Or do I even like Renjun? I walked back home and arrived only to find out the boys were still there. I looked at them and it seemed like they were eager to know what happened between Jisung and I.
“So..? How did it go,” Hyuk asked.
“Why did no one tell me it was Renjun,” I asked.
“Dammit, Jisung,” Jaemin said.
“What did Jisung tell you?” Mark asked.
“Why did no one tell me they both liked me, they both fought because of me,” I started to cry.
“Hey, hey don’t cry,” Jaehyun said, as he came running.
“Well I am. I just ruined a friendship,” I sniffed.
“It’s not your fault you know, people can’t help how they feel, you’re not the one to blame, it’s also Jeno and Renjun’s fault,” Mark said.
“What the hell am I suppose to do? I don’t even know where my feelings stand, I don’t even know what I'm suppose to do,”
“Isn't it obvious though? You like Jeno don’t you?” Jaemin asked.
“I DON’T KNOW OKAY, BECAUSE I USED TO LIKE RENJUN, I’VE LIKED HIM FOR YEARS, BUT EVER SINCE I MET JENO, I DON’T KNOW,”  I shouted.
Everyone gasped and opened their mouths besides Jaehyun and Mark. Hyuk and Jaemin looked at me with shock and confusion.
“Oh dear, this is a true case of confusion,” Hyuk said.
“I’m leaving. I’m getting my stuff and going to Areumi’s place,” I said.
“Wait, come on (y/n),” Jaehyun said.
“Don’t touch me, I want to be alone with my best friend. I clearly can’t be around you guys if you won’t tell me everything,”
“How many times do I have to tell you it’s not our place to say!” Hyuk replied. “We can’t speak for them because it’s their own business. Did you think we wanted this to happen? It was already hard enough to get over awkward tension when we all liked you knowing Renjun was in love with you. It was harder for Jeno because he REALLY likes you but REALLY cares about Renjun,”
“Hyuk that’s enough,” Mark sternly said.
“No, if she wants to hear the whole truth, we’ll tell her. Yes, we all liked you at one point, but then we had to stop because of one main reason, it was because of Renjun, he was seriously in love with you. Jeno on the other hand really didn’t want to give up on you, but he cared about Renjun and didn’t want to lose him, it made things awkward, but now because of this? They won’t talk to each other, and it's all because of y-” He was cut off.
“Lee Donghyuk that is enough,” Mark said.
By now after what Donghyuk said, tears were running and couldn’t stop, Hyuk looked at me and his face fell, he tried to reach out.
“(y/n) I just…”
“Don’t touch me, leave me alone. All of you leave me alone,” I replied.
I left running to my room and grabbing most of the things I would need to go over to Areumi’s, it wasn’t until Jaehyun knocked on the door and I turned around and he looked at me with sad eyes.
“You know what Hyuk said, he doesn’t mean, and he’s not trying to blame you right,” Jaehyun said.
“I know, I just. I need time and space alone from the boys Jaehyun. I can’t right now,” I replied.
“I know, it’s just, don’t be hard on yourself,” He sighed.
“I gotta go,” I replied, I grabbed all my stuff and left without saying goodbye to others.
Jaehyun’s p.o.v
I sighed as I heard her slam the front door leaving the house, I went downstairs and the boys were staring at me.
“Lee Donghyuk, what the fuck is wrong with you?” I asked.
“It was bound to come out okay, I just , I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings like that,”
“We know you didn’t but Hyuk, she’s just overwhelmed with things, I mean what you said was right, but still, let her breathe,”
“I'm just, I'm sorry, is she okay though?”
“Yeah, she’s heading over to Areumi’s place, you’re lucky enough she knows you care, and you didn’t mean it,” I glared.
“I’m sorry,” He apologized.
“So what now?” Jaemin asked.
“We wait for them to figure it out,” Mark said.
“What if things don’t go well?” I asked.
“We can’t interfere, things are already bad, just have faith and hope things will be fine. We both know they care about each other, there’s no way their friendship would break because of (y/n), there’s also no way for her to let that happen either. Before she liked them, they were friends,” Mark said.
“Mark’s right, let's just let her solve it, we’ve done all we can,” Jaemin said.
Everyone nodded and plopped down on the couch and was all lost in thought, and silence filled the air.
(y/n)’s p.o.v
I left the house and pulled my phone out, and proceeded to call Areumi.
“Hello?” She answered.
“Are you home?” I sniffed.
“Baby what’s wrong?” She asked.
“I’ll tell you later, can I come over and spend the night,” I asked.
“Of course!”
“Okay, I’ll be there in like 10 mintues,”
I hung up the phone and wiped away my tears that were still forming, I know what Hyuk said, he didn’t mean to hurt me, but damn it cut me like a bitch, but what he said was true, it was because of me that Jeno and Renjun weren’t talking. I just, Jisung was right, I needed to figure out how I feel about them before I can decide on anything.
Minutes passed and I finally arrived at Areumi’s house, I knocked on the door and she quickly opened it and came and hugged me.
“Are you okay?” She asked. “What happened?”
“Did you know too.. Did you know Renjun and Jeno liked me too?” I asked.
“...” She stayed silent.
“You too?” I cried.
“Honey, It wasn’t my place or business to say anything, I knew they liked you, but I didn’t know about the letters or anything I swear,”
“So, did you know they won’t talk to each other because of me,”
“Okay, that one I didn’t know, what happened?”
“Jisung told me after movie night they both went off on each other in the group chat and now Jeno won’t give up on me and Renjun is mad about it, and he was suppose to confess to me but never did because he knew I liked Jeno,”
“Those boys,” She pouted.
“I don’t know what to do,”
“Yes you do, I know you know,”
“What am I suppose to do?”
“You figure it out, listen honey. I can’t help you this, I can support you and be there for you, but this? It’s your business you need to figure it out,”
“I just, I’m afraid of losing them both,”
“But you won’t, because before liking you, we were all best friends first,”
“What if you’re wrong Aruemi, what if they stop being friend because of me,”
“Do you really think that? It’s not just you (y/n), everyone wants the group to be friends still, Mark, Chenle, Hyuk, Jisung, Jaemin, and I. We’re not going to let them fall apart because of this,” She replied. “Now go, and think about this and figure it out, I’ll leave you in my room and let you think,”
As I watched Aruemi leave her room, I sat on her bed and there was complete silence as my ears were ringing and thoughts invading my brain. I like Jeno, I really do, but am I just lying to myself to run away from my true feelings? Are my feelings for Jeno genuine, but if it was? Wouldn’t it be easier to just run to Jeno? Or am I just too scared and still clinging onto my first love? But how could you not like Jeno? He’s everything a person would want as a significant other. I’ve known Jeno for quite awhile now, and he’s really a great catch, he’s sweet and charming and his eye smiles are the cutest, but there’s something about Renjun that I cannot let go. I’ve known Renjun longer and his presence has helped me more than anything, and it’s always comfortable with him, I can tell anything to Renjun and he just understands me 100%. I think this whole time It’s always been Renjun and I’ve been just lying to myself liking Jeno. It’s not that I never liked Jeno, I did, but I’m in love with Renjun and it’s always been like that.
I heard a knock on the door, I looked up to the door and it was the least person I thought who would be there, and it was Jeno. He entered the room and stood there in silence, and looked at me. I looked at him and then looked away at the ground.
“I’m sorry,” Jeno apologized.
I looked at him, “What are you sorry for?” I asked.
“I’m sorry for ruining for everything,” He frowned.
“It’s not your fault Jeno,” I replied.
“(Y/n), I like you,” He confessed.
“I… I like you too, but,” I paused.
“You’re not in love with me, I know,” He sighed.
“I’m sorry,” I replied. “But, I really did like you, I just… it’s just not the same as…”
“As Renjun?” He cut me off. “I know, I know you’re in love with him, everyone knows,”
“I’m sorry,” I cried. “I just, I’m scared? I’m scared to lose you and him,”
“But you won’t,” He smiled faintly. “Listen, we were all friends first, there’s no way any of us would break apart. Just because Renjun and I aren’t on talking terms right now, that doesn’t mean we will be forever. It’s just an obstacle we both are too stubborn to deal with together,”
“I just, I know, but Jeno… I don’t want you to think that I liked you as a rebound because that’s not true, I did, I just…”
“(Y/n), I know,” He cut me off again. “I know you liked me, but I knew the way you liked me was never going to be the same the way you liked and love Renjun, and it’s okay,,”
“We’re still going to be friends right, all of us?” I asked.
“Together and forever,” He smiled. “But I think it’s time for you to leave and run to Renjun,”
“But what about you? Will you be okay?”
“I’ll be okay, but I think you should tell Renjun how you feel,”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, its what the universe wants,”
“But you Jeno? What about you?”
“I want you, but I also want this friendship with Renjun. I cherish this friendship with Renjun and with everyone else more than anything,”
“You’re going to find someone better than me,”
“We’ll see. Now go!”
I nodded and looked at him, his eyes were a bit teary. I gave him a sad smile and gave him a tight hug and he hugged back tightly and I could hear his quiet sobs.
“Thank you, I whispered, “You really are the best and worth the world, and I’m sorry I can’t be that person,”
I released from the hug and looked at him one more time as he sniffed and wiped his tears and gave me a small smile. I smiled and greeted goodbye and left the room, I looked over and saw Areumi smiling and nodded at me. I smiled back and walked out the door and came running to Renjun. I ran as fast as I could to Renjun’s house, and as I arrived, I banged on the door as loud as I could hoping he would open the door as fast as possible.
He opened the door and his eyes went wide, I came inside and hugged him, I hugged him as tight as I could as if it was going to be my last time seeing him.
“(Y/n), what are you doing,” He asked.
“I’m in love with you,” I blurted out.
“What are you talking about,”
“I know you wrote the letter, and I know you lied to me, it’s okay.”
“But Jeno…”
“I already talked to him and he’s going to be okay, maybe not now, but he will be,”
“So.. you’re in love with me?”
“Been in love with you for years, I’ve just never thought you felt the same way,”
“But you said you like Jeno?”
I released him from the hug and looked at him, “I did like Jeno, but there’s no one that beats you Renjun and I realized that, the way I like Jeno and the way I like you isn’t the same,” I confessed. “It’s you, and it’s always been you,”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure of this one, but why did you like to me and not tell me,”
“Because you told me you liked Jeno, I just thought you were never going to return the feelings, and I didn’t want to lose this friendship of ours,”
“There’s no way I would ever let that happen, you know I love each and everyone of you, you guys all me the world to me, I wouldn't dare to drop a friendship because of confession,”
“So what does this mean?”
“Well, what do you want it to mean?”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
“Yeah, I like that,” I smiled. His face turned bright and he hugged me tightly, I smiled and hugged him back. I guess I found the one.
[Special Scene]
Areumi’s P.O.V
I entered the room and looked at Jeno as his back was facing me, he then turned around and gave me a small smile. He walked to the end of the bed and sat down and leaned his back on the side of the bed. I smiled at him faintly and sat next to him.
“Will you be okay?” I asked.
“I will,” He whispered. “Everything just kind of hurts right now, just having feelings for someone who doesn’t feel the same way, it hurts,”
“I know the feeling very well,”
“You do?”
“Yeah, because the person I have feelings for right now, he’s actually in love with my best friend,” I smiled as I looked at him. “But it’s okay, I’m sure right now, I just want to be there for him. Do you think that’s okay?”
His eyes went wide and looked at me, he pulled his knees up to his body and nodded. Silence filled the air and we both sat there comforting each other with our presence.

WKM Reflections Part 2
(GUESS WHO FINALLY MADE PART 2) @superyummysandwich
Part 1
Upon leaving the guest room, Eve was faced with the Butler standing outside the door carrying a tray with some weird mixture on it.
“Ah, good morning,” he said “hope you’ve had a good night’s rest.”. Eve mumbled a thanks, slightly caught off guard from having to socialize this early in the morning.
“I’ve prepared for you a seltzer with cocaine,” he handed them The Mixture, they only took it out of politeness “best thing for the morning after if you ask me.” he then winked and walked away.
Eve was going to get rid of it the exact moment they could. They knew for a fact it would be a very bad idea to drink it. Though not because they’d ever drunk anything like it before, nope, not this person, they definitely did not have a roommate in University who told them it would be a great hangover cure or anything like that, nope, they were a responsible adult who made responsible life decisions.
They didn’t have much time to stew on their Totally Responsible Life Decisions though, as the moment the Butler left Eve noticed Damien was there, seemingly waiting for them. They grinned at the thought of Damien waiting for them and just generally at the thought of Damien.
Damien turned around once he noticed Eve’s presence and smiled at his old friend. His smile made the District Attorney’s heart flutter against their will. It was annoying that Eve’s normally tight grip on their emotion seems to falter when it comes to him.
“Ah, there’s our little monster! You really knocked ‘em dead last night. I haven’t seen you go wild like that since our days at university.” he said, referring to the many, many wild parties they both had gone to in Uni. “Good to let the beast out every once in a while, eh, old friend?”. Eve just grinned and nodded, not trusting themself to speak.
He smiled back, but his facial expression quickly shifted to one of concern, “Then again, I’m-I’m still not exactly sure as to what we’re celebrating here.”. Eve didn’t know either, they had only attended this party because they hadn't seen Mark in almost 2 year now, after he got divorced, and they wanted to make sure he wasn’t dead or anything like that.
“I mean it’s good to have the gang back together,” he clarified “but...out of the blue like this seems…” he was lost in thought for a moment before remembering Eve was there “Anyway, now is not the time to become conspiratorial. Life is ours to choose, as I always say.” he had brushed the thought away but he still looked tense, like his worries still weighed on him.
Eve didn’t know what to say, they weren’t the greatest at comforting people ,or social interaction in general, and now that Damien brought up his concerns Eve was starting to worry too, after all why would Mark invite everyone to a party like this after months of radio silence?
“I have some work to finish, but I’ll meet you at breakfast. We’ll all catch up soon.” he nodded at them and then quickly walked away.
Eve distractedly nodded back, now lost in thought themself. As they walked down the winding stairwell, they couldn’t help thinking about the events that lead up to this. Earlier this year, Mark and his wife Celine had gotten divorced. Eve didn’t know the circumstances behind it, they just knew it had been a messy break up. Eve had been pretty sure things weren’t going the greatest, sure. They had just thought the two would work things out. They clearly did not. After the divorce, Mark hadn’t left his home. Eve had figured it was only reasonable that he would be depressed, considering how smitten he had been with her, so they had let him be. But then one month turned to two and they started getting worried. Eve had asked  Damien about what happened but he wouldn’t tell them anything. Something big had clearly happened but Eve didn’t know what. Damien had tried talking to Mark but that clearly wasn’t going well.  Eve had also tried contacting Mark, even trying to go to his house once, but he never responded and once they were outside the gates of The Manor they had felt such horrible dread and terror and decided to just keep trying to call him. They had kept trying to contact him all the way until Mark sent the invitation. Eve had considered this a good sign and decided to attend, even if they didn’t want to go near The House again. But now they were doubting his motives….
They should probably stop thinking about this, they had reached the end of the stairs and know from personal experience that it’s a bad idea to wander around someone’s house while lost in thought. They’ve broken their nose doing that once..
Eve had no clue where they were going in this house so they turned right by default. A suit of armor caught their eye. Eve never understood why rich people had suits of armor in their houses, it's not as if they’re planning on wearing them or anything like that, so there was no point! The mental image of Mark in a suit of armor made them snort, Mark would be a terrible knight in shining armor. He’d more likely end up the damsel in distress while Eve and Damien would try to save his ass.
They were getting lost in thought again, they should probably stop doing that. They decided they should try to find Mark so they can catch up. They turned around and with a strike of lightning something fell at their feet.
  No, not something
  Someone
  Mark
  It was Mark
The same Mark who’d introduced himself to Eve by flirting with them. The same Mark who’d introduced them to Damien. The same Mark who, for the duration of his marriage, would not shut up about the fact that he was married.  The same Mark who could be stupid, arrogent, and petty but still loved his friends deeply.
  That Mark.
 He was on the floor
Why was he on the floor?
Eve was frozen in place, not truly comprehending what they were seeing. The only thought in their head was “Why?”.
They only barely lifted their head when the Detective walked in, wearing a bathrobe.
“Did anybody hear that lightning- OH MY GOD! THERE’S BEEN A MURDER!”. On the word “murder” there was another lightning strike. Neither the Detective’s screaming nor the lightning roused Eve from their stupor.
They barely acknowledged when the Butler entered  “Excuse me, did you hear light-OH MY GOD MURDER!”. Nor when lightning once again struck on the final word.
Nor when the Chef entered “Did you-? MUUUURDER!”. More lighting, though it didn’t make a difference to Eve. Eve was barely processing the events around them until the Detective got in their face.
“What the hell happened here? Who’s in charge around here? Trick question: that guy,” he pointed at Mark’s body while Eve blinked back to reality “And he’s dead now, which makes ME in charge. So you better listen up good, bucko. ‘Case you haven’t been paying attention, there’s been a bit of a...killin’.”. Everyone started looking up expectantly for lighting but none came so the Detective continued “And you’re my prime suspect! So you better get to explaining right quick as to what, where, when and why you happen to be here upon this man’s death!”.
Eve sputtered, taken aback both by having recently been brought back to reality and the man’s loud and rapid manner of speech. They were trying to defend themself but they were still barely having cohesive thoughts. Luckily, Benjamin came in clutch “ Sir, the body is cold. He’s been dead a while.”.
“Uh, yes.  I pretty much just got up” they stuttered.
The Detective chuckled “A likely story! That I happen to believe completely,” Eve let out a slightly confused sigh of relief “All right, you’re off the hook for now, but I’m a detective and-”.
“Oh, yeah? Prove you’re a real dick!” The Chef interrupted
He took his wallet out of his robe’s pocket and shoved it in front of The Chef’s face “Here’s my badge. Asshole.”. He turned his badge towards Eve to show them too but a row of photos unraveled from his wallet. The photos showed The Detective in more or less the same pose next to a different person in every photo, and there were a lot of photos. Eve looked at him questioningly.
“Ah, Those are my old partners. Don’t ask me about them. Fine! I’ll tell you.”. Eve didn’t ask but okay “Each death more tragic than the last. A few of them even died in ironically hilarious ways,”. Eve shared a look with the Chef, who seemed similarly bemused. “Which made it all the more tragic.”.
Eve wondered if he was done talking now when he continued. “But hey, you look like you’re up to the task. You’re my new partner.”. Eve vigorously shook their head no. Because they didn’t want to, y’know, die.
The Detective laughed “That’s what all my old partners used to say. Right before they died.”....Very reassuring.
“All right. Hand me that fingerprinting kit behind you, partner” he then winked at them. Eve decided they would just file all this away for later, they did have an investigation to get to after all. There was nothing they could do for Mark just standing around, all they could do is figure out who killed him.
They turned and searched for the kit on the couch behind them. There was nothing. They turned back around to ask him where it was specifically but found the Detective was now fully dressed and holding said fingerprinting kit. That wasn't all, in the time since they had turned around police tape had been set up and the body was covered with a tarp..
“Thanks, partner.” the Detective said, despite the fact that they hadn’t handed it to him. He then casually tossed it on the floor. Eve decided that instead of filing this away for later they would burn the files and forget this ever happened. They ducked under the police tape as the Detective crouched over the body.
The Attorney opened their mouth to start asking him about the cause of death, how long Mark’s been dead etcetera, etcetera. (Just because they found the Detective deeply irritating didn’t mean they weren’t willing to work with him, professionalism was more important than any…..personal issues.). But their voice stopped dead in their throat when Damien walked into the room.
   “What the hell happened here?”
Eve didn’t know how to tell him Mark was dead, they couldn’t form the words. They couldn’t even sign it, as they often did when they couldn’t speak. They were completely speechless.
“Oh! Mr. Mayor. I’m so sorry. There’s been a murder.” the Butler explained. Thunderclap.
“A murder?” Damien asked and then jumped at the second thunderclap “Who?”.
    “It’s Mark” the Chef shrugged.
“I’m afraid he’s telling the truth. Mark’s been...killed.” the Detective said. No thunder there though, strange.
   “Why? Who would do this?”.
“That’s exactly what me and my new partner here-” the Detective gestured to Eve, who had decided they would just accept this and hope they don’t die by tonight.”-are here to find out.”.
“Um,” they all turned to the Butler “Excuse me. I feel like we should call the authorities for them to handle this matter.”
“Look, buddy, as far as you’re concerned I AM the authorities.” the Detective pulled out his badge again “The fact of the matter is, I believe the killer is right here amongst us in this very house. With that freaky lightning storm outside, none of us would get very far, anyway.”.
“Also,” Eve added in “the police wouldn’t get here very quickly, the combination of the storm and the police’s general response times means we’d all be sitting ducks for a while. And if the killer really is in here with us, well, they’d have a lot of time to destroy evidence or hurt somebody else.” Eve also didn’t trust the police to investigate their friend’s murder, though they decided not to add that part in. Mark was a famous actor so once the media got a hold of his death, the police would be under a lot of pressure to arrest someone. Pressure leads to false arrests and they didn’t like the idea of someone they knew being falsely accused. The Detective was annoying, yes, but Mark had invited him here along with all of his other friends. That meant he trusted him so Eve trusted him too.
The Detective nodded in agreement “So, in the meantime we’re stuck here. But I’m gonna get to the bottom of this. The rest of you, get back to your rooms, hunker down, and pray to God you’re not next to be murdered.” he ordered. Thunder struck again. It actually seemed like a good plan, too bad nobody listened to it.
“I’ll...I’ll check on our other guests.” the Butler said then walked off. Eve found it odd he had said that seeing as the only guest not present was the Colonel. Hey, where was the Colonel?
“I’ll get back to cooking. All this death made me hungry” the Chef said, walking to the kitchen.. Well, that was a sentence.
Damien looked at the Chef leaving then at Eve then at Mark’s body “I…” he looked at a loss as he backed out of the room “I-I need to talk to the Colonel about this.”.
Eve wanted to say something, anything to comfort their friend, but he had already left the room. They sighed.
“All right, partner,” Right, Eve had to focus on the investigation. Worry can wait. They crouched next to the Detective. “It’s time to get to work.”.
“Judging by the temperature of the body that I measured rectally, which is obviously the most accurate way to get the inner body temperature of a corpse. That’s a fact, totally procedure.”. That’s... obviously not true but if Eve freaked out about every odd thing he does and says they’d be there all day.
“Don’t tell anyone I did it.” Called it. “I am sure Mark was killed around 1:30 last night,”. He suddenly stood up  and pointed accusingly at them “ So what were YOU doing at 1:30 a.m last night?”
They flashbacked to 1:30 a.m. They were sleeping, they always slept with their eyes open so they could see the time. They told him this.
“I’m gonna ignore the strange fact that you sleep with your eyes open,”
“ You have no right to say something’s strange.”
   “But it checks out.”.
“ It better.” they murmured as they stood up.
“So, we need to figure out where everyone was and what they were doing around that time or, at the very least, who saw Mark last.” He paused for a moment “You need to get out there. See if you can  piece together the story of what happened last night. I’ll stick around with the body and run more..tests”
Seemed like a good plan  though they would have done so without the Detective telling them to. They ducked out of the police tape and for a second wondered where to start. Then they heard Damien yelling.
Well, it seems the investigation has begun.
