(for someone who needs an off ramp)

There are so many things clamoring for our attention.

The latest outrage. The incendiary thing that some public figure said or did. The cause that’s grabbed the spotlight. The trend that’s everywhere. And so much more.

The usual whirlwind of frantic distraction. Demanding our time. Requiring a response.

In other words, welcome to Thursday.

Only this Thursday is…a little different. This Thursday has an off ramp.

There’s something else there. It’s not loud or frantic. It doesn’t demand.

Yet somehow, it draws us in. With its peace.

Not the peace of quiet. The moment’s pause that sometimes happens when the outrage machine accidentally stops to take a breath. Although it is quiet.

It’s an active peace.

A peace that’s grounded in a presence. A peace that’s grounded in the Presence.

This Thursday, be selfish.

Quit pouring out the precious gift of your time, of your attention, of you. At the feet of distractions that will never love you back.

This Thursday, give the gift of you to the One who has always loved you.

Spend Triduum and Easter with the God who loves you enough to sacrifice everything. Just for the chance that you would love Him back.

And if you really miss all of the frantic distraction? If you really need to pour yourself into things that will never repay your time and attention?

The latest version of all of it will be waiting for you on Monday.

I only took about a half dozen shots at the very dimly lit, small but packed club before her tour manager asked me to stop or leave. I respected that, and it was obvious that at that point in her career she was a powerful but plainly shy performer, which to me this image portrays in a very raw sort of way. Additional thoughts on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice: Why all the Bava references? I don't know that any of it is going to land with the intended audience. Especially the super random black and white portion....was it just because Monica Belluci is in the movie (because she's dating Tim Burton)? Also, he couldn't give her a character with any level of depth? Like damn - at least Helena Bonham Carter got some extremely solid roles out of playing Burton's muse for years! Monica Belluci deserves better.

& the whole 'Rust' reference, if it wasn't an intentional defense of Alec Baldwin, was there no one on staff who said, 'hmmm, maybe we don't include this line considering the leading male character from the original film is on trial for murder because of an incident exactly like this? Except he used a gun instead of a grenade.' Seems pretty insane to me.

Just an all around lazy & joyless experience.

The juggalo movie I saw at the Emmaus theatre last night was infinitely better. Go see 'Off Ramp'! It's a trans-positive, found-family, absurdist, off-beat, juggalo road trip movie. Truly an odyssey with tons of heart.
