So for a while now I've actually been reading this book series, called Ragnarok. It's a Norwegian published book!! And of course our favorite trickster is there~✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And out of boredom I made another Sigyn, no problem! 😌
Without spoiling too much of the lore within this book, Loki is a Raven and has been on the run for quite sometime.
My take if Sigyn was ever going to show up (not sure if she will so..) Is that she's at home and taking care of her remaining family and is very confused about the situation Loki is in and why he is just gone?! She tries her best to find out what he is hiding and where he is. Because our gal SEEKS answers! 😠
Personally I am torn on her design, it's a little too silly but still so pretty in a way!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
English translations:
1. Why didn't you say Anything loki..?
You've been gone for a long time my love, Me and Hel are starting to miss you.
2. Well, have you found him yet? *referring to Loki*

I just wanted to say thank you for giving the lesser known ones a proper chance. Some only take characters that get lots of suggestions, which leads to mostly the same characters over and over unfortunately (I won't tag the ones I have in mind as I don't want them to get harassed but people have probably seen some of them themselves). So I'm very happy that they get their chance to shine here and possibly get people interested in them..!
And if it's okay; to voters, rather than getting upset that the characters you are curious about aren't available in English and ignoring it or sending lots of messages to the creators who can't do anything with the situation. So may I suggest filling in the survey over at Seven Seas Entertainment:
https://sevenseasentertainment.com/
(near the footer)
One can also tweet at publishers one like, but I don't know how powerful this is anymore after the website was... Corrupted for lack of better words. Messaging on Instagram could work, maybe.
If you want/can, can you mark those not published/printed in English yet with 📖 for novels (Royalty Witches, Mystical, etc.) and 🗨️ (Ragnarok, Gryphoon, MiniMonsters, The World God Only Knows, Soluna, etc.) for manga, graphic novels, and comics (given that's how things are sorted in the survey. You can't suggest games and shows there though, although Limited Run and Fangamer might listen for games (although most games are region free now 💕) . Diskotek Media can work for shows maybe. I also recommend putting in things as "[story] by [author]" to make them easier to find. So for example Phenomena by Ruben Eliassen (📖), Ragnarok by Odin Helgheim(🗨️) I know it's tagged wrong on booksfromnorway.com, keep in mind that not all Norwegian books are there and the ones that are, have their titles translated, but it's mostly right about which has been licensed of the ones there), etc. As some titles can be rather generic. Other countries probably have websites like that but I do I know a mangafansite that has some information (mangaupdates.com, but it's far from perfect and has some creeps). But yeah, maybe if we work together, maybe more will get licensed! As most of the creators deserve to have their works published around the world!
Thank you for your time! 💕
I definitely use submissions to gauge which characters are more popular, but I don't think it's fair if you guys submit someone who will never make it into a poll. This sounds so cool!

If you haven't filled the survey completely yet, can you please send in [Phenomena by Ruben Eliassen] which Azur is from among the novels? The Norwegian publisher is treating it like crap these days and print fewer and fewer copies rather than celebrating its 22nd anniversary and being grateful for it being one of the first (and best) Norwegian fantasy book series. It was the one that made people start taking the genre seriously in Norway so it'll be depressing if it just disappears..!
Cool things for it's time and still is:
The hero has a love interest, the heroine doesn't, the author has later said that she's an aroace lesbian.
A 12-year old girl becomes friends with a guy in his 20s, they do not end up together and stay friends for the rest of the series.
The author manages show don't tell in a book, and discusses the weird misogyny that was around in the 2000s rather than acting like it never happened.
While there's unfortunately some implied r**e, are the ones doing it not glorified or end up with their victims. One of the victims is a man and treated as just as terrible as the other one and is never joked about.
One tribe that were used as slaves take the cousin tribe of the tribe that kept them as slaves as their slaves, this isn't treated as okay.
Adults aren't always right.
The protagonists both have ADHD but are presented as intelligent in their own ways despite being twins.
Is just very good.
Oh sure ! This seems really promising and rather woke for a 2000s book (some of you need serious updating and should come with special warnings but we love you 2000s series)
Here's the survey for those who'd like to help ! Reminder : we're talking about Phenomena by Ruben Eliassen (Norwegian book) and Ragnarok by Odin Helgheim (Norwegian comic). All hail Norway !
Tumblr media
(Just a thought from someone whose country has a heavy colonial past : Not sure the "ex slaves turn easily into oppressors when given power" is actually a good take since I believe the "they'll do the same to us if given the occasion/as revenge on us" was the kind of saying used to oppose the end of slavery. It doesn't mean the book doesn't have great takes or that the author and readers are racist, just that it's possibly a poor/clumsy take)
You had me at twins with different personalities ! (I'm joking, I was into it when you said fantasy from Norway and I realized I didn't know what Northern fantasy looked like as a genre) If they translate it, I'll do my best to get my twin to read the copy I'll get
Funnily enough, my favorite kid/young teen series is a French series who never had been translated which title is Phaenomen (from the Latin noun, all the chapters have a Latin title). It's about kids with different kinds of disabilities (unnamed but quite reminescent of autism and other mental or physical disorders -with a supplementary 'magical/sciency' touch but I promise no magical superhealing stuff- : dyspraxia, hypermnesia, migraines, hyperfixations, hypersensitivity to light, difficulties to communicate, anger management issues etc.) who flee the special needs type of clinic they're in and find themselves in quite a lot of trouble as they try to survive together as a makeshift family and run from some powerful Templar sect who's taken an interest in their uncommon abilities (special vision, superspeed, soul manipulation... all are the other sides of their disabilities)
It's been a while since I've last read it but I used to reread it several times a year. Some stuff in it might be problematic (ableism-wise) but I also have autistic friends who love the series too
If anyone else wants to mention childhood/teenagehood/pasthood reads not translated into English from their own countries, don't hesitate ! (Also works for movies, games and whatnot)

How to import fandom and maybe other stuff from Norway
After Skam I know Norway became rather popular, and while you can take Norwegian courses, it doesn't help much if you can't actually use it (and know from own experience that talking Norwegian online to foreigners feels weird even if you know they understand Norwegian if they introduced themselves in English >////>, here on Tumblr I mostly write in English even to my Norwegian friends as it feels more natural). Some of you might even while not being interested in learning the language would like to import something fun to have something new and exciting in these often same-feeling days. Some of you might even just be after to support your favorite Norwegian artists. So if you are after more than just food on eBay, here ya go.
So, not many Norwegian online shops ships outside Norway as Norwegian shipping prices are pretty steep. So I've looked far and wide, and found 2 (4 if you include a sketchy souvenir shop I saw, but all the books they had were 2 translated Harry Potter books, riveting, and a grocery store so unless you are desperately after some weekly magazine do they not have much, unless you want some snacks, which is understandable). So the two I found are:
- Ivo Caprino
For you puppet/stop motion fans out there. They sell region free DVDs with Caprino's fairy tale inspired movies, and Flåklypa (my personal favorite). The DVDs include both sub and dub. Not much more can be said.
- Bokkilden
I didn't find this one on my own, it was Dina Norlund who found it. They have more than just books, so you can look at them too. But unfortunately the site, like the grocery store is it only available in Norwegian, but fear not! I have translated how to fill it here! After filling the cart:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ordered a couple of books to some Youtubers I watch to test it, more about that below. They have no place to put state/province I thought (and you can't add it to zip/postal code as it only accepts numbers and one hypen), but the ekstraadresse (extra address) field I put it in there. In there it appeared two places, on top as a C/O, and further below right under the postal/zip code, then I clicked on endre adresse (edit address) and could remove the C/O field while the extra one below remained. Their shipping cost seems to be 200nok no matter what to other countries, just so you are aware.
As always, use a currency calculator when buying from other countries!
For those of you wanting to import something but doesn't want anything in Norwegian (yet), or you @fjordsoncomic fans out there, here are the volumes! In English! (they are in the souvenir section of book stores here)
Other recommendations from me personally:
Ruben Eliassen, especially Phenomena (Mare is unfortunately only available as downloadable audio books)
Odin Helgheim
Dina Norlund
Charlotte Sandmæl
Malin Falch
H. L. Phoenix
Siri Pettersen (her first big book came out in English recently yes, so you can read them side by side if you want)
Kjell Aukrust
Jens Bjørneboe
Anne-Cath Vestly
Alf Prøysen
Ole Lund Kirkegård
If you wonder about their legitimacy, I ordered from them to send to
I ordered from Caprino in March and Bokkilden now in April, so if they show up in upcoming videos, we know they're legit. I ordered from the grocery store some time ago, but they're kind of weird as you can see.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And to German Phenomena fans, in 2019 the 8th phenomena book finally came out, but Eliassen had to self-publish it. He's currently selling it through vipps (and conventions before you know what), but as vipps is only available to people with a Norwegian social security number, can you ask him on Instagram or Facebook if he please could start taking PayPal payments or something, could be useful for me too as I don't trust vipps.
If you are interested in the graphic novels and want them in English (and sold in bookstores where you live so you don't have to import from Norway), how about filling Seven Seas' survey (they count as #NordicManga) or send a mail to Dark Horse or something. If they first come out in English, they'll likely come out around the world not soon after.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
- @alchemydragon (my ask box is glitched though so I might not be able to see your name before I answer...)

Hi, Blåtann here is the bluetoothed old man here. Hope that helps.
If you post this, for anyone wondering, he's from Ragnarok, it's not licensed yet in English, but you can suggest it and other foreign series not licensed yet in this survey from Seven Seas Entertainment rather than asking the author who can't do much on their own unfortunately. I recommend putting it in as [Ragnarok by Odin Helgheim] rather than by itself so they won't mistake it for with something else.
Tumblr media
Thank you, it does help !! I've edited the poll
I love comics and I'd love to read Ragnarok, I'm definitely asking for a translation in the survey and hope others will too !
