Ok, first, Octopunk Media is the self-made studio that created not one, not two, but three full-length films based off of "Reed900", a pairing of two video game characters that never met in the media they come from. They are so respected over here, so please show them love 💕

And secondly, it seems like one of our favorite actors from the Reed900 films, the man, the legend, Michael Smallwood, is the star of What a Beautiful Wedding; which means that I really need to hop on watching this.

btw its actually crazy that plantation tours are a thing that exist in the u.s. and that theyre not all set up like memorials similar to concentration camp museums like how is this marketed as a chill tourist activity or wedding destination and not extremely disturbing and depressing to see. worthless country

There was one thing in the Zen Garden he had created on his own, started from scratch with each line of code carefully written by the android himself. It was the thing that made him look forward to stasis.

(Inspired by the song "I Wanna Be Yours" by the Arctic Monkeys and the Detroit: Evolution Reed900 edit with the same song by Octopunk Media. In addition, I took Zenvin from DE but this isn't a DE fic)

Nines, nowadays, is almost always eager to enter stasis.

As an android of the RK line, it was seen as necessary to do. Connor, an RK800 and his predecessor, had to do it. Markus, an RK200, had to as well. As advanced prototypes, they used stasis to process information the way humans used dreams. However, in stasis, androids were fully aware of their actions and environment.

Nines, an RK900, had a Zen Garden waiting for him in stasis. For the other RKs, they had created their own environments. However, Nines stuck with the setting given to him by CyberLife. It was familiar and comforting.

Although, there was one thing in the Zen Garden he had created on his own, started from scratch with each line of code carefully written by the android himself. It was the thing that made him look forward to rest.

It was a version of Gavin, his work partner. He was a detective and human who worked with the android at the Detroit Police Department.

Initially, the Zen Garden version of Gavin, or Zenvin, as Nines liked to call him, was created as a way to cope with the real Gavin’s vile behavior when they were first partnered. Gavin was a cantankerous man when they first met. He was almost always raising his voice at the android and belittling him when they had met. Nines, in his frustration, created Zenvin. He was kinder, for the most part. Although, he served the purpose of teaching Nines how to interact with his partner. The AI had helped him greatly.

Now, Gavin and Nines were as close as an android detective and his human partner could get, considering their rough start. They were close friends now, after having taken the time to attempt to understand each other after their endless amount of misunderstandings. They were on good terms.

Although, something in Nines itched for more. He wasn’t sure when it had started. Like a flower, the feeling bloomed a while ago, and had continued to grow. At first, the feeling was painful and emotionally burdening. After, he began to come to terms with the fact that he had fallen in love with someone for the first time. Someone he had a work and platonic relationship with. The acceptance helped, but the pain was still there regardless.

It was only during stasis he could ease away the pain and disregard the unrealistic aspects of the pre-constructions he had made, all involving the detective.

It was only during stasis he could satisfy his own feelings.

Zenvin was made to help Nines learn how to deal with his human, but he eventually was used to help play out the scenarios he had only imagined involving the actual Gavin Reed.

Only in his Zen Garden could he hold, kiss, and hug Gavin without the fear of rejection or distrust. Nines knew the human would never return his feelings, let alone touch him, even in a platonic sense.

The AI he had created looked, talked, walked, and sounded exactly like Gavin. It possessed his emerald eyes and playful tone.

The thing was, Nines was fully aware of the fact that the AI was only a simulation; he could satisfy all his wants and needs in this world he possessed, but Gavin would never truly love him back. Although, pretending in his Zen Garden hurt less than having to face rejection by his partner.

The android opened his eyes slowly. His LED spun calmly, glowing pastel yellow.

He looked ahead, confused as he saw no one in sight.

Taking a deep breath, the android began to stroll around his Zen Garden, looking for the AI man he sought out every time in this world.

Zenvin stood at the opposite end of the garden, looking up at the pink of the cherry blossoms blooming on a tree.

“Nines,” He greeted with a pleasant tone, smiling gently.

“Hello, Gavin.”

Admiring the human's serene expression, Nines smiled back at him. He looked lovely.

Zenvin turned to the RK900.

The AI looked calm and rested, rather than disheveled and tired, unlike the human he was based on. He wore a clean white shirt and kept his hair naturally curly. His skin looked bright and clean. Although he kept his stubble and scars, he still looked angelic.

He took the android’s hand in his, interlaced their fingers, and kissed the back of Nines’s hand, making him blush blue.

They began their typical stroll around the garden with a languid pace. Nines always felt relaxed here, as if a deep calm blanketed his body.

He felt the warm sunlight of his skin, the gentle grip of Gavin’s hand, and heard the soft thud of their footsteps beneath them.

Being here with Zenvin never failed to bring him genuine peace. Here, he could slow down for a few moments before committing himself back to his real life. It was always stressful and confusing out there.

The android may have been a deviant for over a year, but his emotions and their effects always felt new, as if he was only converted days ago. It added to the stress of navigating through work and personal matters. The whirlwind of emotions he was always experiencing usually felt overwhelming, besides in moments like this. Everything felt manageable and distant like this.

Only in his own mind could Nines truly relax.

Zenvin brought them over to a bench placed in the center of the garden, facing the old “emergency exit" in the distance. It had no use, now that Nines was deviant. It was meant to be used if an android had to force exit the control of CyberLife or their program. Although, there was no use now that all androids were deviant. There was no programming to escape.

Now, it was kept there for the sake of comfort: he would never use it, but he wanted to keep it there. He knew he would dislike the empty space it would leave behind and would not know what to use to fill its place.

He looked at it for a second, wondering if he would ever have had to use it if the circumstances were different.

“Eyes on me, tin can.”

The android turned to face the man beside him, who stared at him with a fond smile.

Zenvin brought his hand up to the Nines’s neck, gently caressing it. Rubbing his thumb against his cheek, the program human tilted his head to the side in the quizzical matter the RK900 did at times.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing much. I’m just glad to be here with you.”

Nines placed his hand over Zenvin’s. He couldn’t help the smile that bloomed across his lips as he leaned into the touch.

Suddenly, the human’s expression changed into something serious. The smile on his lips had disappeared and his brows were slightly furrowed in what seemed to be worry.

“Nines, I need you to wake up. Wake up, Nines,” Nines heard.

However, it didn’t come from Zenvin’s lips.

Nines looked at him with sudden confusion. His LED spun a violent red and began to flicker wildly.

“Gavin?”

Nines blinked forcefully a few times, his Zen Garden and the real world replacing each other every time he opened his eyes. After a few more times, he was finally completely out of stasis, displeased to have left his Zen Garden so suddenly.

“I leave for maybe, about 3 minutes and you’re already nodding off on me. You sure you’re alright?”

“I’m fine, Detective.”

“Sheesh, I didn’t mean to interrupt your beauty sleep. No need to pull the ‘Detective’ shit on me.”

Gavin eyed the android suspiciously, who just went back to scanning files on his tablet. He turned to his computer and sipped his coffee.

With no new cases of their concern, the duo didn’t have much to do besides look at old cases or, in the android’s case, upload hard copies of information from the evidence archive to the police department’s online database.

The lack of action was unusual for them, as they could usually be found on active scenes or researching their cases. However, it was excruciating, especially for the human. Everyone in the station knew that he lived for his job, so seeing him so agitated over the lack of work was expected.

“May I suggest ending our work day early? I’ve already updated the department’s database with case files from the 1970s to the 1980s and I’m sure you’re sick of staring over the same closed case for 3 hours.”

Gavin stared at Nines with a cocked eyebrow.

“You’ve read my mind,” he sighed, grabbing his keys and turning off his computer.

“Let’s grab something to eat, yeah?”

“Sure, Gavin.”

Gavin walked toward the back exit of the building as Nines tidied his desk, numerous pre-constructions, which would never be played out, running through his HUD.

I got a late Christmas present! Thank you @octopunkmedia, Michelle, Austin, Maximilian and Chris, and everyone else involved in making this film. Thank you to the fan base for being so supportive and awesomely creative. I love you all!

okay whats detroit awakening

ok ok this is. long and complicated. I'll make it short!!

it all started in 2018 when the game Detroit: Become Human was released. it's set in the year 2038 in a sci-fi ish future where humanity has invented androids to do their bidding, and the game follows three androids in separate storylines that overlap later on. the androids can deviate, which means they break free of their programming and gain consciousness. it's a great game and I loved it a lot :)

anyway, there's a character named Gavin Reed who is racist towards androids and is actually barely in the game lmao, and the android RK900 (or affectionately nicknamed by the fandom, "nines") who literally only appears in one (1) of the dozen endings

the fandom did as fandom does and created a ship!

so. here's where octopunk media comes in.

they are an independent film studio, and last year?? or the year before, I'm not sure and time is a construct, produced a whole ass fan film funded by patreon and put it for free on youtube! it's called "Detroit Evolution" and it focuses on the relationship between Gavin and Nines as they're working to crack a case of seemingly a serial killer who goes only after androids (they are cops btw didn't mention this)

it was a wonderfully made movie with so much love and passion put into it, and I watched it several times lmao

and now they released a spin off shortfilm!!! "Detroit Reawakening" shows Gavin and Nines on their first valentine's day as a couple as they reflect on the first valentine's day they actually spent together when they were barely even friends yet. (it also replaces the short "Detroit Awakening" which unfortunately had another actor for Gavin who later turned out to be a predator and was swiftly recasted)

okay this was Not short. I apologise lmao, I'm just very excited!! fan projects will always have a special place in my heart, and the fact that they produced whole movies based on a ship made up of side characters at best is just so wonderful to me. that's what fandom is all about :)

DEArtfest Day 31 - Touch Starved

Ahh I’m so glad I got to make something for each day of DEArtfest. I don’t think I’ve ever been more productive in my life! As promised, I’m not gonna hide anything but for this prompt I made some drawing to go along with the little thing I wrote! Hope you guys enjoy them!!

(You guys don’t have to read this I’m just gushing) Wow last day. This has been a roller coaster for me. Going back to writing after like six years. Detroit Evolution, the movie, Octopunk Media, the fan base, the art, the stories, cosplay, everything has made such a huge impact on my life. Thank you so much to amazing people at @octopunkmedia​ for bringing such amazing content into the world. Your work has inspired me to accept and explore many different parts of myself from my art and writing to my own sexuality. (I’ve always identified as Pansexual but I’ve always struggled with intimacy. You guys can probably guess why I love Reed900)  and I can never thank you enough for just existing. I am looking forward to all your future projects and I can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

Gavin sat at his desk. He was currently trying to file through his paperwork but he was having a hard time concentrating with Nines hovering over his shoulder. He sighed and looked up at Nines as he felt him lean over to point out yet another error. 

“Nines why don’t you just do all the paperwork? It would probably take less time if you did it than just fucking leaning over me and pointing out whatever errors you find.” Gavin said. His hands were honestly about to start cramping and his legs were sore from sitting on his ass all day.

“Detective, I believe paperwork builds character and I think we can both agree that your… diligence could use a bit of work.” Nines said. He smirked as Tina snorted before looking away and trying to hide herself behind her screen. Hank gave a hearty laugh before Connor gave him a pointed look though he still smiled. Gavin’s face reddened and he glared at Nines.

“Okay asshole, you could at least give me a fucking break. My fingers hurt and my ass is sore.” Gavin grumbled out. Nines’ LED quickly spiraled yellow before he responded.

“I could give you a massage?”

Tina, Hank, and even Chris laughed at Nines’ response. Connor looked confused for a moment before going back to work. Gavin was livid and looked ready to burst from all the blood that rushed to his face before he began sputtering.

“Nines- NO that’s so- NO what the fuck is wrong with you!?” He tried to muster up with an appropriate response but he kept stumbling over his words. Nines cocked his head to the side, a look of android-like innocence upon his face. But Gavin knew better. 

“Detective Reed, I hope you understand I meant your hands. You and I both know neither of us are interested in such...endeavors. Although I could give you a back massage if you’d like?” Nines responded. Clearly amused by Gavin’s reaction.

“Fuck you. And you know what? Yeah massage my fucking hands. If you’re not gonna help me at least do that.” Gavin said. He was still blushing but he had regained some of his composure. He knew Nines would do whatever he asked within reason if he really wanted to and an honest to god massage didn’t sound so bad at the moment.

Nines showed a more genuine smile as he sat on Gavin’s desk and took one of his hands into his own and began to gently knead his knuckles and the space between his thumb and pointer finger.

Gavin felt a surge of electricity go up into his arm the moment Nines took his hand. What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck? Gavin had never felt anything like that before. It was strange. And it only became more intense as Nines began to knead his hands. He nearly rolled his eyes to the back of his head. Fuck this felt...intense. There was no better word for this. It was almost too much until Nines let go before gently taking his other hand and he felt the same intensity rush up his arm and curl down his back. He shivered and pulled his hand out of Nines’ hands. 

Nines’ looked up with a questioning look but Gavin simply smiled and said he was okay. He turned back towards his computer and continued to work. He didn’t complain about the feeling he had in his hands although he wasn’t sure if what he was feeling now was actually pain or something else.

Nines was sitting next to Gavin on the couch. They were both watching some random movie from the early 2000’s. An oldie, as Gavin referred to them. Classics that had aged well enough. Nines didn’t really care about the film since he already knew how it ended thanks to his database specifically used to understand Gavin’s Millennial/ Gen Z humor. No, what he was currently focused on was the gentle fingers that were coursing through his hair.

Nines was leaning into Gavin just in between his legs. Gavin was propping himself against the side of the couch with his arm hanging just on the edge while his other hand gently wove its finders through Nines’ synthetic hair. He felt Gavin’s body pressing into him from behind. He felt nothing in that regard but he was warm. He was happy to feel Gavin against him and it left a buzzing sensation upon his skin. He didn’t know why this happened but he tried not to question it. His deviancy caused him to feel so many things, it was hard or him to understand them all at once so he tried to indulge in what he knew felt good without question and this definitely felt good.

Gavin’s hand was far more warm though. It sent what Nines registered as shivers down his back. Surges of electricity down his back. He hummed. It was almost too much but he simply turned his sensitivity down and enjoyed the warmth he felt from having Gavin so close to him.

Gavin woke up to Nines holding his hand, his skin white and synthetic. He smiled and squeezed Nines hand. Nines visibly tensed slightly, not realizing Gavin had woken up, before turning to look at him and smiling. He gently ran his thumb over Gavin’s hand as he whispered a soft good morning to him. Gavin closed his eyes and shivered. Jesus, it was just fucking hand holding and he was already shivering like a teenager. 

He opened his eyes and looked at Nines. Nines stared back at him, his LED a bright yellow. They both looked down at their hands. Gavin tried to avoid Nines’ gaze until he spoke up.

“Gavin...why does this feel different sometimes?” Nines asked. Gavin looked up at him, a bit confused.

“What are you talking about?” Gavin asked.

“Sometimes… when we touch it feels different. It feels warm and intense. Like it’s too much? Is that normal?” Nines worriedly asked. Maybe he was experiencing an error. A virus?

Gavin relaxed, albeit only slightly. 

“I think...it's what people call being touch starved. It doesn’t mean anything like that but it happens when you don’t have a lot of contact with other people. And whenever you touch someone it’s more...intense. And it can happen from anything like holding hands or just bumping into someone on the sidewalk. Like you said, it's warm and it can feel like a lot but it’s normal, or at least it is for me. And sometimes it can be bad if it is something that comes from someone you don’t like but it's good. With you.” As Gavin talked he flattened his palm against Nines’ and he curiously looked at Nines’ skin as it seemed to glow in the morning light. He was glad that Nines could feel that. The intensity. It made him that much more human, though there was never a question about that.

Nines relaxed and realized that Gavin felt the same. He could feel how shocking it could be. Except he couldn’t just turn down his sensitivity levels like Nines. He had to live with people bumping into him and feeling this intensity. He could imagine himself shying away from touching other people simply because touching anyone he didn’t like or know felt like being burned and knowing Gavin could go through that worried him.

Gavin saw the worried expression that crossed Nines’ face. And tried to reassure him.

“Hey Tin Can, it's not that bad. You kinda get used to it, I mean I am. And you’re a fucking badass android. If anyone even tries to touch a hair on you you can just knock that person on their ass. Hell I’ll do it for you!” Gavin said. Nines smiled, quietly reassured. His smile turned into a smirk before speaking again.

“So you’re used to this feeling? Well I am still very aware of this feeling and I’d very much like to “get used” to it, through cuddling, maybe?” Nines said and smirked wider at Gavin's reaction.

“Oh my god, you are such an asshole-”

“Takes one to know one, Detective”

“FINE, yes we can cuddle. But you’re making me some snacks for this!”

“Of course, Detective.”

And then they cuddled!

11. Grumpy mermaid gavin

Summary:  Pirate captain nines accidentally catches a grumpy mermaid gavin and is a complete gay disaster for him

Pirate captain nines only meant to have his crew catch some fresh fish for food. Instead a mermaid accidentally gets caught up in his net and is grumpy, even more so when he cut out of the net but too injured to go back into open ocean straight away.

Nines was never one to back down from responsibility and it was his fault the mermaid ended up injured so of course he would care for him until he healed enough. Hi clanny! There's this rlly cool thing a channel on YouTube called "octopunk media" is doing called "Detroit: Evolution" it's an hour long fan film based on DBH and it's rlly awesome! It comes out April 10th I think,so go check it out!
