Now that I actually think of it, the last time Kei was that bluntly, blatantly violent toward an opponent was either when she fought Akuro or during the One Piece crossover, fighting the Blackbeard Pirates. And this time it was because Kei’s personal restraints did not affect Isobu’s decision-making process, and Circumstances put him in the driver’s seat anyway.

It turns out they’re really good at reducing an unprepared opponent to giblets.

sometimes I remember the fact that at the ripe age of 9, I felt ashamed for watching and loving Lego Ninjago, bc I felt like I was "too old" for the show, and it was targeted for a "younger audience". (this went for most of my in general) and how Older Me would look back and cringe at the fact I enjoyed these "children shows/ things".

And now, as an Adult, I see how absolutely ridiculous that sentiment was. And to this day I still enjoy "children shows/ things" (LMK, TOH, mythology, dinosaurs, etc.,).

Like no- now all i want to do is look back and whisper "you will still enjoy these things in the future, and you will even create so much art of the things you find interesting. You will go to college for some of these things. Enjoying harmless things isn't childish."

bro, bro. i just realized/remembered something and i can't believe i didn't put it together already

i've been in a Batman kick for well over a year now, maybe two years? idk time is weird and it's been a rough couple of years but Batman has been the main tether holding my sanity together. something about Bruce and fam understanding pain, and loving each other through horrors, and all the whump fics, etc etc

however, i realized that what set me on the path to diving headfirst into the Bat-fandom? that was YOU babey!!! specifically, it was A Ninja's Guide to Gotham.

like, i'd already had a passing interest in Batman, but it wasn't until i was in between updates of A Ninja's Guide to Gotham, and i was needing more Batfam in my life, that i decided to start reading the comics. and then watching the animated movies. and then reading so, so many fanfics.

i'd even started mentally constructing my own self insert fic, purely for therapeutic purposes (not getting into details, but i've had some medical troubles that left me in a lot of pain a while back and my therapist told me that imagining fictional characters i love comforting me through the worst moments was a good coping technique. which is one of the many reasons i love self-insert fics, it's therapist approved!)

so uh anyway. first i'd been following Catch Your Breath since like. idk. 2012? 2013? over a decade, jesus fuck. Kei became something of a comfort character, bc i could sorta project onto her somewhat (same with Shikako). then you did Shell Game, which was awesome, and other crossovers. Ocean Stars Falling almost got me into One Piece, so close, but i was still able to read it and enjoy it even if i didn't know what the goddamn fuck was going on bc it's Kei being awesome.

and then you started A Ninja's Guide to Gotham and set me on a path to my latest and greatest hyperfixation just bc the fic itself was so good and i needed more of the characters.

so my dude, my friend, awesomest fic writer i have the honor of regularly interacting with, thanks for sharing your writing with us. realizing this also reminded me of how great an impact fiction can have, fanfiction included, and you've provided us some of the highest quality stories i've seen.

Glad to have introduced you to the black hole that is the DC universe, and doubly so that it helped you during a difficult time. And it's nice to hear that you've stuck around for such a long time through all the fandoms I've tripped through while dragging Kei backwards through those briars.
