Queering the Runes: Reclaiming Ancestral Wisdom in Rune Magic and Mythology by Siri Vincent Plouff is a new edition to my library. I think this is a great, different perspective on the runes. I can't wait to put this to use. I pick runes twice a year amongst other oracles on the equinoxes. Thank you to Weiser Books for sending it my way.
"Queering the Runes is a contemporary, inclusive, and forward-thinking approach to the runes that focuses on finding queer experience, life, and joy in the Elder Futhark. Siri comes to the runes as a queer, nonbinary reader, and presents a path for reclaiming the ancestral wisdom and mystery of the runes in a way that can provide insight and understanding of their sacred nature for masculine, feminine, and nongendered aspects of self. Written as a love letter to the runes, the gods, and the people who follow the Nordic path, Queering the Runes presents an alternative approach to the runes—one that creates a gentle container for those who want to follow this heathen path."

❄️ I tend to read a lot of occult-based books. I like a good ghost story, sure; but I’m also a huge fan of learning different ways to look at the world.

Howdy witchlings! I keep meaning to do this, so I am just slapping it together. This is supposed to be my current reading list, which can shift by week, biweekly, or monthly, it is not on a schedule because I don't read on a schedule. To the books I'm currently reading!
New World Witchery (Cory Thomas Hutcheson) This is the book club book, we've got about 4 chapters left, and I have found it reads more like a history book on witchy folklore stories (and sometimes leaves me wishing there was more about those stories) than a book about witchery.
Becoming Dangerous (Katie West) Kinda digging what I've read of it already, which is the first two essays. I am not sure that the essays match the introduction, which was really promising, but it feels too early to call it.

Faces of Babalon - Mishlen Linden (editor)
The Faces of Babalon is a collection of essays written by a small group of cis women that have connected with the deity in a meaningful way. The essays are brief, not more than 30 pages and self-described as a chapbook, and bracketed by channelled messages from D. Koons.
The authors are a mixed bag. Assuming I have found the right people: Linda Falorio was an artist that created The Shadow Tarot as well as a psychotherapist (according to an obituary), Soror Chen does not exist online as far as I could find, Mishlen Linden is a fine artist that mixes spirituality with sculpture and has contributed to other books on Babalon, Nema’s name is to vague to find any results, and the main result for Raven Greywalker is an essay on Thelemic sadomasochistic magic rituals (which is fitting with her essay).
The essays are dense with information and all of them are heavily based in a mix of sex magic, the various aspects of Babalon as a figure and as a deity, and with a liberal helping of appropriation of chakras, east Asian concepts, and Kabbalah. In my opinion, the first is the best.
I have read this book twice now, once as a PDF and once as a print copy that I now own. The writing that focuses exclusively on Babalon is intensely interesting and explorative in a way I’ve not seen in other books (yet). It probes unmarked territory in ways of conceptualising the goddess and includes gender expansive and trans readings of Her, as well as being a collection of essays written without the influence or need to cater to cisgender men. One essay plunges into Babalon as a sex worker - something often alluded to in other writings but shied away from confirming or exploring deeper.
A few essays are intensely critical of Crowley & his attempts at constructing Babalon as a goddess that is both liberated but submissive to men, a welcome read considering some writings on Her.
I do not recommend this book at all for beginners to metaphysical or religious practice, since the appropriation is mixed in with non-appropriative writings on Babalon and may be hard to parse in parts (in other parts, it’s incredibly blatant and obvious), however I do recommend it for those experienced in picking appropriation out from a text and interested in different and unique views on Babalon.

I've always had a love affair with plants. They heal us, feed us, cleanse our environment, and connect us to nature and the divine. They are beautiful and useful friends to get to know.
I was delighted by this book because it was another window into strengthening our relationship with our plant friends.
"Part reference guide, part recipe book, and part ritual journey, Blackthorn’s Book of Sacred Plant Magic offers readers an in-depth exploration of the vital connection between scents and magical practice.
Topics covered include:
Connecting with Spirits of Plants, Place, and People
Expanding your Scent Vocabulary: Beyond “Floral”
Scent, Memory, and Personal History: How History Effects Scent
Creating Scent Activations"
Thank you to @weiserbooks for sending me this early copy. Congratulations to Amy Blackthorn.

🖤👽 I need to gush for a minute: I’m a huge fan of @objectspod for a lot of reasons, and one of them is the way the team encourages a sense of play and curiosity around the way we think about the weird and the scary. I spend a lot of time in weird research spaces in my career and they often get more than a little frightening for my brain; but learning from Greg, Dana, Keelin, Connor, and Karl has given me the confidence to reframe my experiences and research with a new excitement. And they’ve given me confidence to explore my own practice and have thus exponentially expanded my tbr, which you can see a small portion of here lol. I HIGHLY recommend the Haunted Objects Podcast and the Newkirk Museum of the Paranormal. 👽🖤

Howdy witchlings! I keep meaning to do this, so I am just slapping it together. This is supposed to be my current reading list, which can shift by week, biweekly, or monthly, it is not on a schedule because I don't read on a schedule. To the books I'm currently reading!
New World Witchery (Cory Thomas Hutcheson) - Just Finished This one was interesting, I don't know if I would re-read it, but I would recommend it. It has given me a lot to think about, a lot to read into, and a deeper look at the history of witchery in North America (specifically the USA). There was a lot in this book that I wish there was more of, and I wish that the Singing Bones segments were literally their own book, and not in this one; this one's a giant read, and splitting the two up could have made things a bit more manageable and given the topics/subjects of the stories more room to breathe.
Becoming Dangerous (Katie West) My last update was after the first 2 essays. I've paused in the middle of the 4th essay. I am having a hard time continuing. I am sensing a kind of... misandry theme in the essays, and I am just kind of not liking the aftertaste it's leaving in my mind. Yes the patriarchy is dangerous, but the focal points we are choosing about the patriarchy to highlight the danger (cat calling?) is honestly like... I don't know how to phrase this politely, but it's like 'hey look at these asshole men! we hate them and the patriarchy!' like ok, but those are just assholes, can we talk about the actual patriarchy and the actual shit besides just "hey sweet cheeks" or whatever?
