Love making OCs who are visual artists in some way cus it means i can give Noya the worst case of The Artist Stare TM lol

Var'renan is for sure also a people watcher, but they pay more attention to vibes and habits and the like and at least mange to be lowkey about it. Noya meanwhile watches people intently and intensely (without really noticing, but she isn't apologetic about it) and regularly gets people flustered.

She's perpetually tracing shapes and lines and mapping movement and falls a little bit in love with everyone she sees.

Also fun: she is kind of unimpressed by Zevran. Mr. So Used To Being Seen As Eye Candy That It Is An Integral Part Of His Survival Strategy. First of all Noya is used to seeing elves all the time which already makes Zev one of the least visually interesting people in camp. And on top of that he is Conventionally Pretty, which is just another way of saying his proportions are incredibly boring. Maybe almost impressive how median they are, but only almost. Sorry Zev move over she's gotta study Shale some more.

Another thing is that she might notice elven traits in Alistair? He is very human passing obviously (lore-wise it would not make sense for him not to be, as much as i love drawing him with pointy ears), but Noya is used to paying attention to details in bodies. And maybe the combination of subtle traits makes her go hm. And then maybe his childhood story suddenly becomes more credible and more grim.

🔪 What does your OC think how they’ll die? 

Well, tbh p much all of them expect to die in battle and/or from the taint post-joining lol Kala specifically wants to make sure she makes it to her calling, or Alistair's calling. In both cases they will go to the Deep Roads together and make sure to make a proper last stand together.

🌈 Does your OC speak more than one language? If so, how many and which?

Neira: Nor really </3 She picks up some words and phrases in Antivan from Zev, she knows bits of old Tevene through spells, but that's about it.

Kala: Common and.. Orzammarian i think it's called? And whatever the Carta version of thieves' cant is. Her Common is kinda broken though before coming to the surface and learning it properly.

Noya: Common but with a heavy Denerim dialect, and the Dialect that's specific to the Alienage. Learns some bits of Qunlat from Sten

Var'Renan: Common, and their clan's/region's dialect of modern Elvish

🪨 Someone gifts your OC a shiny rock. What do they do with it?

Neira: Keep it and put it somehwere safe but will probably forget about it

Kala: Admire it and add it to her collection :]

Noya: Keep it for a bit but probably forget about it and/or flick it into a body of water at some point. Kinda depends on who gifted it though

Renan: Keep it, with the intention of using it to decorate something. Weave it into jewellery, maybe.

Neira - She's not a sword user exactly but while they were in Orzammar her companions insisted she get herself a proper quality melee weapon, right here, direct from Orzammar. Well crafted and durable - and enchanted by Sandal, of course!

Noya - Good old simple, reliable dagger. She keeps with her it, even after it's worn enough to not be of much use.

Lilian - Invests in a nice n proper sword after the Deep Roads. Utility is the first priority, but why not be a bit vain and make it fancy, while you're at it?

June - What's the point of a sword if it doesn't look sick and can hold magic runes?? Or, ideally, act as a staff substitute. Not like she has much use for a sword otherwise lol (except to feel cool)

I uh. maybe went overboard and did everyone except Ari and Liam (since i did them in the other post) hfsfhdk

3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?

Neira: Never had an interest in romantic or sexual relations, honestly did not know that this was like, not a Conscious Decision/ something you can influence until uh. after the Blight probably fhdskjfdl. Just never really thought about it that deeply.

Kala: Tbh i still haven't figured out exactly how i think Dwarf gender works, but in any case her gender and race and caste are all very interconnected and all that gets thrown upside down when she gets exiled to the surface.

Attraction was never something that was relevant or interesting to her before, so feeling attracted to Alistair in some way was a very new and confusing experience!

Noya: Wasn't quite at the point of realising that her (lack of) sexual attraction was Different TM yet, later it gets mixed up with trauma and a bunch of complicated feelings. Had some related gender feels as well, came to the conclusion that she likes her agab but in a "fuck you it's none of your business" way. Discovered that she/they swag once Renan assured them that she was 100% allowed to do that even if they were "just" a woman.

Var'renan: They've never felt attached to a specific gender or gender presentation as a child, and growing up that slightly changed into not feeling confined by any one gender. At some point it changed from simply not caring about being perceived as a different gender to Similarly gender never had a part in her attraction to others either.

Lilian: She actually thought she was a lesbian for a while before she noticed she didn't like women exclusively, but never really thought about how romantic attraction worked for her until it happened For Real (with Isabela). It was weird to find out that this was actually quite different from usual, and it took her quite some time to figure out what to do with these feelings.

June: First hints of bisexuality was probably her preferring the idea of being married off to a woman rather than a man, if mostly because she hated the idea of having to bear children. Later getting involved with all sorts of people was part of her Rebellion Phase TM, but she realised that hey, i do like this actually. As for aromanticism, that was never something she had to confront or consider until Cullen, and that was Quite The Ride because the circumstances made it kind of confusing to figure out.

5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?

In general it's usually just a Trust The Process kind of deal i guess? I don't really go in with a plan and will take notes on what vibes the characters give me & then work off of that. I also like to give different cultures different base concepts of gender, even if it's just minor differences, since, well, truth be told i'm a bit tired of standard white euroamerican queer takes.

some separate notes though:

June: took me a bit to figure out she's aro; it started with me doing Cullen's romance out of curiosity, but always feeling like that Didn't Quite Fit despite the building blocks all being in place, and ended with an "ah. that's why."

Var'renan: started with me being indecisive about what gender i wanted to play, and figured i could just. not choose xd Ended up fitting her general attitude and self-image very well!

7. Is there something that could cause your oc to question their identity? What?

Neira: She's confident in not having an interest in romantic/sexual relationships but if she was in circumstances and an environment where there was Less Going On she'd probably notice some gender feelings going on.

Kala: Don't think there is anything left to question, since she doesn't label herself in any particular way wrt to her sexuality (and the gender related stuff already happened)

Noya: I could see them grappling with their ace-ness again here and there before coming to terms with it

Var'renan: Not really, they are very confident in their identity.

Lilian: If that kind of situation came up she'd struggle with polyamory, i think. She'd be insecure about what that says about her and if she is betraying her devotion to Isabela by falling for another person

June: Can't think of anything, really. She's def wished for male physical traits now and then but more in a utility way, and still feels strongly about being a woman.

If you could hang out with one of your OCs for a few hours, which one would it be and what would you do together?

Ohh good question!!

Honestly my first instinct is to say Noya? I feel like we'd vibe the most/ the most easily! We'd probably end up taking a walk and chatting and doing whatever; maybe have sketch session! Once we start talking about our art we would inevitably talk about our interests and then we can both go on forever lmao

Ari: Neat freak. Haaates when things are out of order, and you better believe that everything is ordered. Needs things to be tidy; it stresses him out when it's Too Much visually or when he can't find things because they aren't where they should be. It's also important to him to keep areas for working, sleeping etc. separate from one another. Stuff like decoration is one thing that he and Josie need to compromise on lol

Noya: Not fancy, but homey. She can never quite shake off the feeling that having too much or having too expensive things is Bad and Selfish and Wasteful, so her quarters always feel somewhat simple. She does however keep little trinkets and decorations that make the space feel Hers.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

Ari:

enjoys taxidermy and has Opinions TM whenever some snobby noble tries to impress him with a clearly poached and/or badly prepared "trophy"

likes cooking and is pretty good at it! Always very spicy though so it's not for everyone

Noya:

loves to draw, and does it a lot. Does it as a way of venting especially after Vaughan happens, but also as a way to ground herself and relax or simply pass thr time

related to that: she makes little sketches and portraits of her companions during the blight, and if she likes you she'll make one for you :)

quite the storyteller! Loves making silly voices and dramatic sound effects and, ideally, bouncing off of a fellow storyteller to weave one big story

Ari: i like to think that if/when he settles down with Josie he eventually gets into beekeeping! He gets into it through Sera lol but ends up being genuinely interested in it

Noya: She can't roll her 'r's and Zev never ceases to poke fun at her for it (in his defense they found this out bc she was trying to mimic his accent lolol)

Noya: Not super unreliable, but definitely has a tendency to run late. Not by much, but she might get sidetracked and remember last minute, or she was gonna be punctual, promise! But there was a puppy in the way here and he looked soo sad and in need of pets.....

☘ : Does your muse believe in luck? How about fate?

June: It's complicated. She was *taught* that fate exists, or at least that there is some higher power overseeing everything, and to an extent she still believes that? Or maybe not believes, but can't quite get rid of the thought that maybe something like that exists. In any case it helps to have some greater incorporeal power to get angry at whenever she has bloody rotten luck lol.

Noya: Does not believe in fate at all. Things happen around you that you cannot influence, yes (so yes, she does believe in luck in this way), but that does not mean that any of that is predestined or unchangeable.

♬ : Does your muse sing well? Regardless of whether they sing well or not, do they enjoy singing?

June: She loves singing, and she's pretty good at it! On the lower end, mezzo probably but can def hit alto range, kinda gritty but with power. Think.. Lzzy from Halestorm, June's voice goes in that direction in terms of pitch and timbre. Loves belting out power ballads or sea shanties, but will often also just sing to herself while going about her day. In fact, if she's not singing for longer periods of time then you know she is not feeling well

Noya: She's okay at it! Not showstopping, but she can carry a tune just fine, and her voice isn't bad at all; it's on the higher end, and smoother than you'd expect. She had a macho phase in which she was kinda embarrassed about how high pitched her singing voice was and wouldn't do it a lot then, but by now she doesn't mind, and enjoys singing when doing it with other people :)

🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?

Noya - i find it hard to pinpoint any One Big Wish, but one continuing goal she has is making things better for her loved ones. She is very community oriented and cares a lot about her people, and will go to great lengths to ensure their well-being above all else, even as Warden commander.

Neira - that's honestly a good question, because she has always made a point of.. Not specifically wishing for anything. There was never really a point to it, iand she'd do better to just be content with what she has. That being said, she did subconsciously wish for things to be Better. Later, she hits her Unhinged Era when her search for the cure gets borderline obsessive, so ig that would count as her biggest wish then xD

🙊 SPEAK-NO-EVIL - what is something your oc will refuse to stay quiet about?

Noya- injustice, abuse of power. She's always had a reputation of being a troublemaker, and part of that was becacuse she would not keep her mouth shut (or hands tied) when it came to those things, and she continues to be vocal about it as a Warden.

Neira - similar, actually, but much more subdued. She is very conflict avoidant and reluctant to directly challenge people or systems, but at the same time believes that it is her duty to try and help the best she can. So, what she does is try to negotiate better conditions, or otherwise make small improvements, without getting too deeply involved.

😨 FEARFUL - when scared, do they go into "flight" or "fight"?

Noya: Fight 100%. Got that from her mother, Cyrion always said. In her experience chances are flight is not even an option, add to that her temper and her protectiveness, and you got yourself one hell of a youyoung elf who fights like a caged animal when scared.

Var'renan: They are definitely ready to fight if the situation calls for it, but i wanna say their first instinct is flight. They are not confrontational by nature, and they would rather get out of reach of danger instead of possibly getting in way over their head.

🕷️ SPIDER - what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?

Noya: Feeling helpless. Being powerless, not being able to do something, anything, to feel like she is nothing but a puppet or a bystander, is the worst feeling she knows, and it was only amplified after the incident with Vaughan. A mundane fear she has is being shit on the head by birds -- it has happened to other people, and sometimes she'll randomly get scared that it could happen to her.

Var'renan: Abandonment. They get very attached to people, and part of the reason they are so loyal is because they'd never want to be the one causing someone else to feel abandoned. They also haaate accidentally scraping their nails on Icky Textures, and will go out of their way to avoid them.

💧 DROPLET - random angst headcanon

Noya: hmm not sure if this counts as angsty, but after he was murdered she always wears Nelaros's ring; doesn't matter if they were never married. It's a memento and a reminder, and a promise for revenge (later, a promise to do better).

Var'renan: to continue the abandonment thing from above: that is (in part) why it was so important to them to try and find Tamlen, and why Marethari forcing them to leave with Duncan cut so deep, and why Morrigan's dark ritual proposal/reveal felt like such a betrayal.

Life 5.: What religion were they born into? Do they still follow it?

I wanna say she was born into Andrastianism, but never very strongly pious one. By the end of DAO I think she is still vaguely religious, but with a different perspective? Like, I do think Leli's interpretation of the Maker leaves an impression on her, but so does 'Renan and the Dalish gods. She may not be Dalish, but they are Elven gods, right? I think she ends up being agnostic, but with a better understanding of where she stands in regards to religion, and with appreciation for different ones. Maybe they are different gods that exist separately, maybe they are different interpretations of the same thing, but either way they have apparently turned their back(s), and she is not sure how to feel about that.

DA:O 18.: If they were captured, did the Warden and Alistair escape on their own, or did someone help rescue them?

They actually did not get captured in my playthrough xD I'm still trying to figure out if i wanna leave that as canon or not (as in, how much sense it would make for them to (not) be captured), but if they did she'd absolutely break out herself. There's no way she would just sit there and hope for a rescue, and for once Var'renan would agree with her plan lolol
