11, 10, and 3 for your dragon age ocs?
Thank you for asking!
3. Opinion on blood magic? Rosslyn Cousland (my only non-mage OC) - she's seen the horrors blood magic can unleash, the harm it can do, and what it takes to stop a blood mage on the rampage. While her heritage and upbringing make her more tolerant of magic in general than most nobles, practicing blood magic is something she feels deserves the strictest punishment Melissa Hawke - doesn't touch the stuff. When she was younger not being a blood mage was a way she justified her family's freedom - the Chantry had no right to come after her or her sister because she wasn't a threat to society, unlike the maleficar the revered mother was always going on about. When she got to Kirkwall and life got more complicated, yes she saw the worst it could do, but being a mage herself she understands that it's just another tool and most of the time it's only wielded as an act of desperation. It's also a lot more nuanced than the Chantry likes to pretend, though that's not an opinion she goes shouting around the place. Maighread Trevelyan - Used blood magic once, when there was no other choice and she had no other way to defend herself. She hated the feeling of it, and it's a massive source of guilt, but she also hates the hypocrisy in the Chantry - the templars use blood magic for pylacteries, and there were treatises in the Circle library about its applications in healing if only it could be studied safely. Over her years with the Inquisition she gains an academic appreciation for it as a branch of magic and a source of knowledge, and while she considers the price too high to use again, part of her wonders whether she'd turn to it again if she were desperate enough.
10. Are they good horse riders? Rosslyn is a certified Horse Girl(TM). She learned to ride as part of her martial training and is extremely competent in the saddle, and before her life got derailed her plan was to start a stud to improve the Fereldan Forder breed. Melissa is... passable, if the horse isn't too excitable. She learned to ride on the farm's cob, which was used for all the heavy pulling and was very placid, but years in Kirkwall means there's not much need for horses and she's much more comfortable walking. Maighread spent most of her life in the Circle, so apart from a few very early lessons before her magic manifested, she didn't learn to ride until she joined the Inquisition. With all the travelling she learned pretty quickly, and in many cases she prefers horses to people because they're less complicated (she may also be a bit of a soft touch when it comes to her own mount). Because it was deemed necessary in case of ambush, Cullen and Cassandra made sure she was drilled in the basics of battle riding, and though she's not the best, she's pretty good at keeping her seat
11. What are their religious beliefs, if any? Rosslyn was raised with Chantry teachings, though the influence of her mother's people meant there were hints of older tales. After the attack on Highever, what little faith she had in the Maker dissolved and she turned to the Alamarri gods instead. It's not belief as such, but she keeps the rituals that show them respect, and heeds the signs they choose to give her when she needs guidance Melissa maybe believes that Andraste had good intentions, but growing up there was always a disconnect between what the revered mother preached and her own experiences so she became disillusioned very early on. She doesn't think much about religious beliefs beyond how Meredith twisted them to suit her paranoia, but then she thinks the Qun is just as bad. Maighread's perspective is that if the Maker is real, he's not worth bothering with, either because he's not powerful enough to stop bad things happening, or because he's a callous, sadistic prick. She understands that others gain comfort from their belief, but its all a bit distant, and she's allowed to be salty because religion only ever told her she was evil for existing and then put her on a pedestal when it became politically convenient.

OC Tag Game
I got tagged by @serenpedac and @cleverblackcat over on my DA sideblog - thank you!
Favorite OC: Rosslyn Cousland (DA:O), which surprises no one, I’m sure. She was my first major exploration of a character and throguh her I learned a lot about myself as well. Also she’s a badass
Newest OC: Thalass Eveni Dziah, my blue dragonborn sorcerer who’s very excited to be a scholar and who is my first ever DnD character. I’m looking forward to getting to know them and what they can do when the campaign starts next week
Oldest OC: Also Rosslyn, I made her during my second DA:O playthrough but she was the first to actually become a character. She romances Alistair, hates being made a Warden, and loves making her enemies Regret pissing her off
Meanest OC: Probably Leah Kingston (TWC, Natemancer)? None of my OCs are truly mean-spirited but Leah is champion of sarcasm and when she wants it to bite she can get really nasty. She tends to lash out when she’s feeling out of her depth, too, which isn’t good
Softest OC: Gwawr verch Morvanue (Dragon Age). She’s from a prequel to DA:O that I’m writing, she’s a Chasind healer and she’s very different from most of my other OCs, far more nurturing and laidback
Most Aloof/Standoffish OC: Rhiannon Lloyd (TWC Masonmancer) - she learned early on that expressing emotion never got her anything, so she locks her feelings away and pretends everything is fine. She’s also learned the value of silence and often waits for other people to reveal themselves so she can respond properly.
Dumbest (Affectionate) OC: I’m not sure I have one of those. Rosslyn has a tendency to be reckless, but that’s not dumb, she just has anger issues XD
Smartest OC: Maighread Trevelyan (DA:I). She has an eidetic memory and spent most of her early life in the Circle library, so has a foundation in all sorts of knowledge. Leah is also pretty smart, and she’s great at deductive reasoning even when people would rather she emotionally with a problem.
OC I'd Be Friends With: Well I know Rosslyn would be far too cool for me. I can imagine sitting in a library with Maighread, either casually reading separate books in silence or else having in depth conversations about magical theory - or hiking in the woods with Leah, complaining about the latest supernatural nonsense
I need to tag people! (only if you want to) @gingerbreton @ellenembee @deathandindignitybedamned @mutantenfisch @allisondraste @choccy-zefirka

Hey:) do the new ocs have large families? Could you tell us a bit about them?
So I’ll give you a brief description of all the new ocs families! Thank you so much for the question!
Lyle - Lyle is an only child, but he’s okay with that. It’s just him and his mum, and he’s really close to her.
Zubin and Aaliyah - They have two younger brothers - Zaahir (13) and Amir (7). They’ve got quite a strict family life, and Aaliyah often gets frustrated being the only girl, but it’s given her a drive (she’s a total daddy’s girl and he dotes on her!) Their parents are quite hard on Zubin as he’s the oldest boy.
Xander - Has an older brother, just a year older than him, called Coen. They’re quite close, more like best mates rather than brothers. Their parents are quite young and they’re all really close as a family.
Seòras - Is the second child of four... His parents were both army, so he moved about a lot when he was younger. He’s got an older sister, Eilidh (25), and two younger sisters, Maighread (15) and Seònaid (12). He gets on really well with his sisters, and his niece and nephew.
Pippa - She has an older brother, Aaron (26), who she’s not close to. She normally stays with her mum and stepdad, and half-sister Leila (6).

Freddie shared a photo of baby in the BIGGEST baby sack of the time i've seen and I absolutely had to draw Maighread in it
[not pictured is September making faces and dangling toys beside the camera to make her look at it while Josephine tries her best not to break out laughing herself ]

I just realized what a nightmare (affectionate) its gonna be the moment Maighread starts walking
She doesn't start by taking a few baby steps, oh no. Its a slow build up to her walking, as she takes the benefit that theres are so many people around willing to carry her.
Until one day, her mama turns away for just a second, because of course, the baby is sitting comfortably, and theres a book to read.
And the next she hears is a crashing sound, becase Maighread suddenly got up an ran across the room to pull at a sparkling object atop a tableclothed table
#fun fact when ifirst learned to walk#i ran in a public library and knocked down a christmas tree ajdjfjfjgh#oc: maighread

imagine you are Professor Ashwood, and you have a daughter in her toddler years, bundled up in her lovely new coat and mittens, staring excitedly and pointing at the 'snow' outside the window.
and you know fully well What The Snow is but also you know your daughter will never experience the winters of the surface, and she seems so excited....

I think about Maighread and Penny's story through the lens of a child adventure novel... a series of illustrated pages of two children exploring in the woods and the vast complex characters they'd encounter.
But here the woods exist only in that of a dream. The only sun they'll ever encounter is of remembered light.
does that make it any safer?

Josie, how did you choose the name for your baby?
Josephine chuckles lightly as she shifts her hold on her daughter, who's engaged very throughly in her thus unachieved attempt to chew through her rattle.
"It wasn't an easy matter, that I'll say. Though September and I are both persons of academia, we do indeed find struggle in the matter of decisiveness. There was alot of back and forth, to the point we were concerned we'd never come up with what to do. There's a lot of tradition in the matter and well... that can be a complicated matter, can it not?"
"In the end we landed on a middle ground, of which made the most sense in our logic, with Maighread taking my family name, and her given name being from September's family."
OC Interview: Send a question directed to one of my characters /muses, and I’ll answer in character as them!
#i figure maighread is either septs mothers name or sisters name i havent decided lol#oc: josephine#oc: maighread#i love josie and her daughter so so SO much augh

@house-of-mirrors
oh ABSOLUTELY. weird little girl 4 weird little girl friendship
honestly I feel like even in the Is the two probably are close, purely because of Alex and Josie still being friends after everything would probably lead to the children being fairly introduced, which would in turn lead to further parabolan interaction
Now, Penny is a bit younger then Maighread, which can be a bit awkward at that age and occasional clashes.... ah elementary school age drama .... But beyond that they generally do play together from time to time
and of course i must link this video
youtube
also lowkey think penny is probably a bit dangerous of a parabolan playmate but thats neither here nor there
#josie and alex reconnecting over the bond of feeling overprotective of their daughters ajdkffkgkgkhkhkj#oc talk#oc: penny#oc: maighread

Ranking each calendar council member on how good they are with Maisie. September is obviously at the top.
February tries to give the toddler a knife, disquilified.
April doesn't follow lab safety protocols the way Josephine would like, but nonetheless April is happy to show the baby how to build things
May is surprinsgly good at babysitting even if he's not trusted for a long time.
.....just imagine Maighread's chatter after being left with August for a bit.
