The Accomplice

You never saw it coming, but you should’ve. There’s not just one killer you have to worry about, there’s two. This is the person whose been helping the killer since the very beginning, pretending to be your friend the entire time until the plot reached its rising action. You’re heart broken and the very ground shakes under your feet, the good person you once thought you knew is gone… or worse, had never truly existed. Which of your ocs is not only willing to help a friend hide the body, but kill it too?

Luke should have known. He should have known Lani was far more sinister than other people in his life. But he hadn't wanted to believe it, maybe because, despite everything, she was still his sister. That hadn't changed now, either.

Still, he would never forget the cold look of pure rage on her eyes as she stood over the dead body of the Imperial officer, split in half by her lightsaber. The only thing that would have unsettled him more was if she had been covered in blood. But at this point... he wasn't so sure she wouldn't rip open someone's throat with her own bare teeth if she had to. And the scariest part: She would do it to protect him.

Lani's whole point as a character is being impulsive and emotional and feeling the dark side constantly looming over her shoulder. She gets pulled into it by her father, Darth Vader, making her promises of everything she has ever wanted and (unintentionally) pushed towards it by Luke and her constant jealousy over how easily everything seems to come to him while she has had to struggle for years to control her abilities. So, what if she had snapped and finally given in?

OC Pride Challenge: Day 19

This week, it's all about LGBTQIA+ artists, so today I'm using a song by girl in red for Lani Skywalker.

This little fic is inspired by the song 4am which you can listen to here - the lyrics are in the video.

The story is about Lani trying to adjust to her new life among the rebels and trying to deal with her emotions and experiences.

Lani sat on the floor next to her makeshift bed, staring out into the emptiness of space. It was 4am ship time and she hadn’t slept for even a minute tonight. Her thoughts were racing, overwhelming her. This was all becoming too much and too little at the same time. Too little because she was always stuck on this frozen wasteland of a planet where the rebels were building their new base, essentially banned from exploring and taking on little jobs like she had been used to back on Tatooine. This was a rare exception where she got to fly out and complete some minor task: Overseeing shipping. Great idea, lovely, totally her field of expertise. Too much because… well… She found it harder and harder to teach Luke since he was soaking everything up that fast. He was an incredibly fast learner and his natural talent was simply… frustrating. That’s what it was. Lani was watching her brother pick up on things that she had struggled with for so long in record time, sometimes seemingly through sheer luck. What that did to her emotions was anything but good. Inside her, she felt a deep jealousy that made her feel awful. But that wasn’t the only thing that got her riled up. It was the little things too, the small accidents during day-to-day life, the shipping delays, the one obnoxious person in a crowd. Things like that managed to make her unreasonably angry. All that shouldn’t happen. She should be more in control of her emotions.

Or maybe Han was right. Maybe she shouldn’t be so hard on herself. Maybe her emotions weren’t as awful as they appeared to be. After all, they had made her stronger back in that trash compactor. No. No, what was she thinking? That wasn’t the Jedi way. It was the Sith way. Letting your anger power you, that was definitely the Sith way and the Sith way was far off from what she wanted. Then again… No. Absolutely not. She was a Jedi. No, she wasn’t a Jedi. But she was close to a Jedi, the closest thing she could be because her master hadn’t been a Jedi either, only ever a padawan. But she held the same ideas and she would uphold them to the best of her ability.

Then, there was that other thing in her mind, the thing that had been haunting her ever since that day on the Death Star. That thing was actually a person: Darth Vader. Ever since she had seen that mask in person for the first time, it hadn’t let her go. It was the image of the mask, cold, black and shiny, that appeared in her thoughts every night, but the man behind it that haunted her. His presence, that constant wrath, was etched into her soul. In a way that made her skin crawl, she found herself in it. It was like looking into a darkened mirror. She had been distracting herself with other thoughts all night but she felt like that was when had kept her awake tonight. Sometimes, she felt like Vader’s presence was reaching out to her through the emptiness of space, like one gloved hand was wrapped around her wrist and the other around her neck. Maybe, tonight had been such a night and she had just been too tired to tell.

With a sigh, she climbed onto her bed and pulled the blanket up to her nose. Part of her wanted to sleep but the other part wanted to stay awake and delay tomorrow from happening. She didn’t want to oversee this stupid shipping, she didn’t want to be diplomatic, she didn’t want to be a leader. This was all too much.

After dealing with Pria Lavesque, Raevyn has to explain herself to the Orville crew of the past. Since there's no way to send her back to the future, she stays on board. This gives her plenty of chances to do things she was simply too late for in her original timeline or that went horribly wrong, including a fresh start on her relationship with a certain helmsman. Half terrestrial, half aquatic Tehiko, Raevyn is an excellent swimmer and has electrokinetic and telepathic abilities. Sometimes, they do her more harm than good.

Lani hasn't exactly had the easiest life. Born to a great mother who died right after her birth and a war hero of a father she has never seen, she seems to have inherited the worst traits amongst her siblings. A group of triplets, her sister Leia is more outgoing and great with words and her brother Luke is kind and energetic. Both were showing great potential under the guidance of their caretaker, Ahsoka until they were separated. Lani, on the other hand, had always had trouble consciously using the force, instead having to deal with outbursts and floating in her sleep. On top of this, her emotions are no less unruly. Or, to say it in Ahsoka's terms, she's just like her father, only with less affinity for the force - which is fine because Lani puts in tons of hard work to make up for it. It's that simple.

One day, Ahsoka disappears and Lani is left to fend for herself. What she doesn't know is that fate is pulling the strings behind her back and that once the force leads her to reunite with her siblings, things will never be as "simple" as they were again.

What is Lani Skywalkers favourite type of weather? (Also the idea of a Skywalker being raised by Ashoka fills me with such joy)

(I'm so soft for Lani's relationship to her family and the concept of family oh my gosh. But not soft like a fluffy blanket, soft like a wet blanket. Like, oh dear. But still a blanket, so also fluffy at times)

I'd say she probably prefers very "neutral" weather. Like, literally nothing special about it. Not too much sun, not really raining (though some light drizzle is fine), neither too cold or too warm... Needless to say, she doesn't like Hoth at all (way too cold and too much snow) and the only reason she tolerates Tattooine is Mos Eisley. Dagobah? She'd die internally and completely lose all physical functions. Way too swampy. Actually, light rain might be her favourite type of weather. But it can't get too bad or she'll get grumpy.

So... I ran out of moodboard ideas, so I hopped on Artbreeder instead! These are the first five I made and I'm still taking requests on who to make next!

Asteria Malfoy

I made this a while back, so I don't know exactly how I made it, but I'm pretty sure I started off with pictures of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy since, y'know, they're supposed to be her parents. I do remember that Narcissa's picture was one made with artbreeder. Then, according to the pictures I saved for the process and refinement, I added Draco and she suddenly looked like a female Draco Malfoy! Who would've thought? The rest was sort of trial and error with me mixing in pictures of people with albinism to portray Asteria's albinism and get the correct colors. That's how the purple tint in her eyes came to be.

Sweetheart. Absolute baby. I'm in love with her large blue eyes and I think I actually got her strawberry blonde hair pretty well. This was actually just a case of winging it. I found some random pictures that worked well as a start and then went from there.

Lani Skywalker

I love her, I'm sorry. She actually looks like a perfect mix of Padme and Anakin - which is what I went for. I did experience with throwing Luke and Leia into the mix but it just messed everything up mostly, so I stopped after a while. Because I didn't like the facial shape and skin tone, I threw in a picture of a woman with darker skin to fix it. It also helped to fix the weird-ish hue that the blue eyes gene setting caused. Now the only thing I don't like about this picture is that it's missing her tattoo, so...

I made this horrible edit. Well... At least I tried.

Raevyn, my sweet baby Raevyn. This is a special case because this early progress picture is actually better than the final result. The final result is this:

She looks definitely the most unnatural out of all the pictures. The weird filter-esque hue comes from the blue-eyes gene that I overused and mixed with the black hair gene to get her hair and eye color as well as skin color right. The pink is actually pretty fitting since she would be pretty blushy and it looks like purple-ish blush which I also like. Also, the pink lipgloss wasn't intentional but very fitting and accurate.

I prefer the first one though because it looks more realistic and that was the goal. Of course, the eyes glow in neither of the pics but that's not a thing I could edit in. I'm not that good.
