“First time?”

Buck, definitely not busy craning his neck to catch a glimpse of the heliport, turns quickly. Steel gray eyes under pale eyebrows study him. “Uh. Yeah. First time”

“Katie.” The woman thrusts out a gloved hand.

He shakes it. “Buck. I'm-- uh, galley crew.”

“That won't do."

“Uh-- what?”

“There's already two Bucks and a Bucky at Mactown. Got another name, kid?”

“I, uh. Evan. Evan works. Are there more Evans?”

She crosses her arms in an uncanny Athena impression. “You just make that up?”

“I- no? What?”

Katie inclines her head. “We just passed a sign for Cape Evans.”

Buck huffs a bewildered laugh. “No, I promise. I'm Evan. Evan Buckley.”

“Well. Welcome aboard, Evan.”

OCtober Day 1: Favorite OC

I decided to draw an old stuffed animal of mine, Katie. I don’t do much drawing of her now, but I used to make so many stories with her, and I still love her so much!

I have finally finished the design for Katie Merlin-Fisher, the protagonist (or at least her first appearance, she later becomes Kaarix, who is yet to be designed properly) of my story No More Happy Endings. I'm glad to finally have a design for her I'm happy with.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted art, so here’s a little OC art! This is Katie. She doesn’t need the glasses, it just helps people know where to look. She’s been invisible since she was about 15, so she’s learned to have fun with it. She has yet to learn how to be sneaky without crashing into a table.

Proposal

“I have a proposal.”

Buck nearly jumps out of his skin at the sound of Katie's voice. He whirls around to find her leaning in the doorway, arms crossed. Her gaze is steely.

Fumbling, Buck tries to block her view of the counter behind him. “Oh, uh, hey-- hey, Katie. Oh-oh yeah? What, uh-- What's that?”

She takes a few steps into the kitchen, looks him up and down. Her eyes twinkle with mirth.

“I won't tell anyone you've been doing a bit of secret non-sanctioned baking--” Busted. Katie then nods her head at the little glimpse of the galley visible over his shoulder. “--If you tell me who it is you're trying to spy on.”

Day 6: Past

Today I was thinking of writing more about Katie's history! She’s never had a concrete written backstory, but she still has a lot of history to her, due to being my favorite stuffed animal that I would carry around everywhere with me for a long time.

The oldest drawings I can find of her were from 2011, so she’s been named Katie for a long time.

This one is from 2012!

I used to draw her doing stuff that I would do every day, sort of like a diary, but I also would make little stories about her. They weren’t very consistent; I just wanted to have fun imagining her in different scenarios, along with the other stuffed animals I had.

At some point, I gave her a boyfriend named Spot, and she also had a brother named Peter, though I lost Peter somewhere along the line. I even came up with ideas for Katie and Spot’s children, and two of them (Mischief and Katie Jr.) are actual plushies. Her mom is a Webkinz yellow labrador name Buttermilk, and I never actually made a dad for her as far as I can remember.

I’ve drawn so many things of Katie and taken a lot of pictures of her over the years. I’m not doing as much with her now, but I still cherish her and all the things I’ve done with her.

It has taken me 3 years to complete Something In The Woods but now I have finally done it and I am so happy to have finally made it to this point! 😭
