Rules: Share an excerpt from your WIP that describes one of your OCs.

This excerpt is from 'To Catch the Sea', where Adam and his friends sneak down to watch the chimeras dance around their bonfires!

Adam spotted Shay by the nearest bonfire, dressed in a white robe haphazardly tied around his waist, his legs and feet and torso bare as he knelt in the grass. A crown of wildflowers framed his golden hair; soft yellow primrose, white gorse and hawthorn. He was a dark shadow against the sharp light of the fire, one hand dipping into a bowl at his knees. Another chimera knelt before him, their matching freckles twinkling like stars. Adam recognised her; her hair dyed a stark scarlet was hard to mistake. It was Ivy; she attended the same banquets as Shay. Where he played piano, she danced with the Muses’ Troupe. She had a dancer’s body; even kneeling down, her torso was lean and finely muscled. Shay’s fingers brushed against her abs, drawing something on her stomach. One spiral, leading down into two others, forming a triskelion. So, this was what he did when he wasn’t playing piano or tending to the greenhouse.

I’m pretty sure this was an OC ask from forever ago asking for me to talk about my OCs? Forgive me if I’m wrong, but that’s what I’m gonna do.

Andromeda “Andy” Hawthorne is probably one of my most nearest and dearest OCs. She actually started out as a self insert, but very quickly taught me who she was.

Andy is good at connection. Her Homestuck classpect is Derse dreaming Knight of Blood; she’s all about relationships and connections. Her strength is her love, but it’s also her undoing.

Andy is fiercely loyal, even to her own detriment. She’s feisty, angry, feral, and full of spite. She can be mean at times, but always feels bad about it in the end. She feels as though she’ll never measure up to what the world needs from her, and tends to overextend herself as a result.

Perhaps her biggest flaw is her inability to recognize when she needs to stop. Like Izuku Midoriya, she would break every bone in her body to win. Unlike Izuku, she is not a super hero. She’s a mostly normal person. Shit like that has unfun side effects. Like getting blown up. Or consistently needing crutches. Or a concussion. Twice.

Andy’s first friend in Arcadia was Mary Wang, but her best friend is probably Claire or Toby. She and Toby get pretty close after Out of This World, after the Eternal Night.

Does Andy miss normal life? Sometimes, yeah. But she wouldn’t give it up for the world. Krel is the only one for her and she’s been to hell and back to prove it to the universe.

God I love her so much.

Innes Talovaire (A Mage Reborn) • the interesting thing about her choice is that it would be different pre-resurrection than post-resurrection so this answer is mostly post-resurrection. there is no official LI for her atm but no matter who she romances the answer would still be the same. the world has done nothing but bring her pain, and after the way their treated her she feels as if she owes nothing to them so she would not feel guilty at all about for sacrificing the world. *pre-resurrection she would have saved the world, unless Eli was alive in that case she would have saved him*

Maeve Peg'asi (Andromeda 6) • it comes as no surprise to me that she would save Damon but it was surprising that she would feel a bit of guilt about it. the world has not done anything to her, it mostly just came from her family, so she would feel bad to bring this to them, especially to the crew. she wouldn't exactly regret her choice but it would take a while for her to stop thinking about it.

Brynn Delvaux (When the Night Comes) • she would definitely struggle with this one. her reflexes would have made her save the world since she is a hunter and that is what they are taught to do but in the end she would save Alkar because her love for him is stronger than her sense for duty. she would mourn the lives lost, of course, but she would not feel guilty or regret her choice.

Kira Seong (Perfumare) and Jennifer Jones (Sentinel) • their reasoning would be the same: Reed and Shaw are all they have. they wouldn't even hesitate. Jennifer, however, would feel guilty for not even thinking about it but not guilty enough to regret her choice.

Amaris Voight • it angers her. it angers her to be in this situation and it angers her to be this conflicted about it. she's a hero, she's done so much for the citizens and has given up so much for them but they love her since she is their savior... but what kind of savior is she when she's thinking of sacrificing them to save the villain that she loves? she would wait until the last moment possible to make her choice, if only to decrease the guilt. would she regret her choice? only time will tell.

Blaise Montague • he has waited for Eden for so long. has found her time and time again in every single one of her lives. he knows she will come back, she always does. but he will not risk it. he wouldn't even hesitate. would not need to be asked twice and he doesn't need to confirm his choice. he will save her, he will always save her.

Kai Morgenstern (Keeper of the Sun and Moon) • this one came as a surprise for me the more i thought about it because Kai doesn't really care about the world, especially NMC since they gave her no other choice but to stay while all she wanted to do was forget what had happened and go back to her old "boring human life" where all she had to worry about was passing her finals in college, not what kind of creature will try to kill her next. and she loves Leon, she really does, and she would do everything for him. but saving the world means saving her dad and her aunt, and Kai would never forgive herself if something were to happen to them because of her. she would be devastated when making the choice and would even apologize to Leon but she wouldn't change her mind. *however if the choices were to save the people she loves or save the world then she would not hesitate to save her loved ones*

Connie Navarro (Keeper of the Sun and Moon) • don't do this to her, she can't take it. she's a keeper so it is her duty to save the world but Altair is the love of her life and she can't do that to him. she would have to be consoled by Altair or her mom or literally anyone around her but she would eventually choose the world. she would be saying "im sorry", "forgive me" and "i love you" to him over and over again until it happened. this made me so sad but this would honestly change her. she would try to justify it, to say that it was one life vs millions but whether she's trying to convince herself or everyone else...

Aspen Peg'asi (Andromeda 6) • i was going to do Aspen until i realized her answer would be the same as Connie, just changing Altair to June. though she would take it the worst since June saved her and she couldn't do this for him.

Angelina Hawthorne • out of everyone here, she's the one most likely to actually regret her choice. she is a hero, she has protected her classmates countless of times and even fought a war for the freedom of people so between her and Brynn, Angelina is the one that actually goes with her reflexes and saves the world. that is her undoing in the end, not actually trying to fight it and make a different choice. the more people mention it, the more she breaks.

Dorian Sinclaire • he is a hero, the son of Zeus. he has been taught since a very young age to fight for the people, to give up everything for them. and he would. the only consolation he has is the fact that his partner would do the same. however, he will try to forget about it and would snap at everyone who mentions it. will take the "ignorance is a bliss" to a whole new level.

Summary: Victoria Blofis didn’t consider herself particularly ambitious, especially for a daughter of Nike.  She wanted to cheer for the Goode High Sharks, she wanted to maintain her 4.0 GPA, and she wanted to not die every time that she went back to Camp Half Blood.  But during the Christmas of her freshman year, her childhood best friend is kidnapped.  Sure, Victoria and Annabeth hadn’t been as close over the past couple of years, but that didn’t mean that she wouldn’t still go to the ends of the earth to save her.  Or, in this case, it didn’t mean that she wouldn’t still partner up with Percy Jackson to break out of camp and join a quest that they weren’t chosen for.  As luck would have it, she and Percy make a great team, and even better friends.  And then she finds out.  Her dad’s new girlfriend?  None other than Percy Jackson’s mother.

very minor spoilers but at the very start of the game you accidentally kill the captain of the (un)reliable, a.lex h.awthorne, because he doesn’t move away from the beacon he sets down and your escape pod lands on him. you take his id so that his ship treats you as its captain, and because everything requires id, you just start going by alex haw.thorne, so andy goes by that if you are introduced in a formal context

(if they ever had a last name, they’ve forgotten it - so andromeda hawthorne is the name, smugglin’s the game) 

they’ve been in cryosleep for the last 50-90 years (i can’t remember) but they suffer long-term side effects like dizziness, fatigue, fainting, audiovisual hallucinations, nosebleeds, etc -- andy can’t control it like you can in-game because that’s dumb

they’re intersex and nb but none of it matters as long as you don’t call them ‘ma’am’ (which people in the game DO), and just call them captain. the id obviously says male on it, because it’s not theirs

they wear a mask/face covering whenever they’re in public, my hc is that it scrambles facial recognition tech, and also they do Not like to be looked at, but they usually look like this

they do take it off on the ship/in private so if you’re buds there’s a good chance you know what they look like

they also have a lot of facial/general scarring

they are, surprisingly, just a human that’s been asleep for the last hundred years. they look like j.enny slate

they were initially a level one medical technician, which means they went to online college did a course in 30 days and their job does not exceed pressing buttons, dressing wounds, and giving the occasional injection

they have their own ship and are prone to taking on misfits and getting them out of their dead-end spacer’s ch.oice jobs

I couldn’t decide which version was the best, so I did them all. I think I like the last one the best, honestly. 

This is my OC, Captain Andromeda Hawthorne, Andy for short. I based her appearance off of Jim Hawkins. I just thought his hair would look super super cool on a girl.
