Camp Justice - Chapter 4: The New Girl

The campers made their way to the exit, Cal's group being one of the last to leave since they were closer to the stage After they exited they started to head towards Green Arrows station. How they all ended up together for the first activity was beyond them but they weren't complaining.

After looking at the map posted outside the building they headed toward their destination. Dick and Wally lead the groups and were talking about the Call of Duty game that was just released with the mysterious guy. He was very much confused but they still tried their best to make him feel included. Kaldur, M'gann, Conner, and Maria were talking about what to expect today. Well, M'gann and Kaldur were doing most of the talking. Maria was still trying to recover from embarrassing herself in front of Kaldur and Conner kept to himself. Cal and Roy were straggling behind which was usual for Roy but not Cal. And for that reason, he knew she was up to no good.

She was walking closely behind him gently poking his shoulder. He chose to ignore it at first but then her pokes became more firmer. He closed his hand in a tight fist in an attempt to ground himself but it didn't do much when Cal decided to amp up her antics.

"Psst! Roy!" Cal harshly whispered.

'Just ignore her' he thought, 'acknowledging her would be detrimental to my state of mind'.

"Roy!" she continued to whisper, "Roy stop ignoring me."

Silence

"It is of great importance."

Silence

"It is a matter of life or death!"

He sighed deeply before answering, "I know I'm going to regret asking this but what do you want?"

She smiled, "Just wanted to see how my best friend was doing. I haven't seen you since you left that day."

"Well I'm here, aren't I? Though I'm not even sure why. So what's the problem."

Cal pinched the bridge of her nose, a habit she picked up from Bruce whenever she was being 'difficult'.

"You know what I mean. You stormed off and none of us could find you for days. We were really worried about you Roy. Where did you even go?"

Roy slumped his shoulders in defeat, "I needed some time alone. I felt betrayed by the one person I looked up to. We worked so hard to finally be taken seriously and all they did was give us access to some glorified public attraction. It was embarrassing. I couldn't take it anymore and I'm sorry I left you guys like that but I wasn't going to just stand there and be humiliated even more."

'He had a point', she thought. That day was supposed to be special and the League blindsided them with that little stunt. Cal was offended of course but she knew at some point they would give them more access. However, it was embarrassing to have the public staring down at you like you were some zoo animal. That hurt the most. And Cal made sure her mother made Bruce aware of it.

"I don't blame ya, that was super embarrassing and if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't even go to that so-called 'initiation' event. But, if we didn't go we wouldn't have gone to that Caedmus mission and we wouldn't have found Superboy. And to top it all off we wouldn't have finally taken a stand and end up here. So I say, maybe the embarrassment was worth it. I mean look at the opportunity we were given. We get to train with just about every member of the Justice League. How often does that happen?"

She looked at Roy who was looking at the ground thoughtfully and was soon looking at her when she nudged his shoulder.

She smiled, "Look at it this way you get to train with your besties, learn from some of the greatest heroes, and make new friends because we all know you don't have any others."

Roy felt his smile instantly drop, "Why do you always find the need to ruin the moment?"

"Would I be me if I didn't?"

"Point taken."

They continued to talk about other things until they got to the station. It was a building that had a medieval feel to it and there was only one person in the Justice League who would have that kind of theme. They attempted to go through the door but found it locked assuming he wasn't ready for them to go in yet. They waited outside while other campers arrived as well. Dick was scanning the crowd to see if he could recognize anyone. However, when his eyes landed on a particular camper, he felt an impending headache coming on.

"Oh no," He muttered under his breath. Dick knew the chances of a fight breaking out were highly possible and was conflicted on whether he should ignore it or prevent it.

Unfortunately, he was too late for the latter for Cal had laid her eyes upon that same camper. And her reaction was anything but pleasant.

"Well, would you look at what the cat dragged in?" Cal announced in a condescending tone.

The camper snapped her head in the direction of the voice. A voice she remembered all too well.

"Callan," She said between gritted teeth.

"Artemis" Cal responded with a smirk, "Didn't expect to find you here, thought Green Arrow had gotten tired of wasting his time on you."

"You think you're something special, don't you?"

"I don't think. I know."

"Pretty stuck-up attitude for someone who always needs saving from the big bad bat. I'm not even sure how you were able to get in here."

"You're one to talk. You can't even do half the things I do. That's probably why he still keeps you around. Wittle Artemis, too weak to go out on her own."

Artemis narrowed her eyes, "I'll put. you. down."

Cal stepped closer, "In your dreams archer. In your dreams."

At this point, they were almost nose to nose. The tension was so thick it was becoming suffocating. Everyone was watching, waiting for one of them to throw the first punch. Which never came as the door opened and out came Green Arrow. A smile on his face unaware of the commotion that was about to commence had he not shown up.

Cal and Artemis swiftly positioned themselves to face Green Arrow with beaming smiles. They did not want him to know what was about to go down or their unending hatred for each other. Fortunately for them, he didn't seem to notice a thing.

Everyone's attention was now on Green Arrow as he started to call in the next group.

"Okay! Now let's see who's first on my list… Ah!" He pointed towards Cal's group, "You guys come in, Artemis you too, the rest of you go through those gates," He pointed to the wooden gates that were surrounded by even taller wooden walls.

"You will begin your conditioning in there and when this group is done you will then come back here for live-action training, any questions?"

He looked around in case someone raised their hand but no one did.

"Alright then! You guys follow me and the rest of you, go start your conditioning."

The groups broke apart, and Cal's group followed Green Arrow through the door into a dimly lit room. There were a variety of weapons on the walls, all archery-related (no surprise there). However, what intrigued Cal the most was the glass wall that overlooked a rather large dirt-covered field. How they were able to fit that in here was mind-boggling but she decided not to ask. She wasn't in the mood for explanations, she just wanted some action.

"So uncle, what you got for us today?"

"A rather interesting activity Cal, something that I'm sure you guys have never done before."

"Never is a bit of an exaggeration, I mean have you seen the streets of Gotham."

He smiled knowing good and well that what he had planned was way worse than what Gotham had to offer, "I have and I'm telling you you'll wish you were there instead."

He clapped his hands together, "Now onto what you will be doing, you see that field out there," He pointed to the dirt field.

"You will be in groups of five, the goal of the exercise is to retrieve that golden arrow and hit that button all the way up there with it. You will, of course, need to hit it smack dab in the middle or it will bounce off. If that arrow gets destroyed before hitting its target then you all fail."

'Sounds easy enough' they all thought.

"Aaand you will be doing this over lava while fighting off live flesh-eating creatures."

"A live what now?" The deadpanned look Cal gave Ollie made him chuckle. He knew she thought her training with Batman would help her to breeze through the camp activities. Little did she know he was the easiest of them all.

"And what lava? I don't see any lava." Ollie pressed a random button on the wall and in an instant, the dirt-field became a lava river with a couple of elevated rocks protruding out of it.

"Oh. That lava."

"Now onto teams! Robin, Aqualad, Speedy, Maria, and M'gann, you're on the blue team. Cal, Wally, Artemis,…"

Cal didn't catch the rest of what Green Arrow was saying the moment she heard Artemis's name. And she wasn't the only one. She noticed Artemis was staring (more like glaring) at her as well. The two refused to break eye contact until they noticed movement in the corner of their eyes indicating that it was time for them to 'suit up' with their team color armor and bow and arrows.

They mirrored the movements of their teammates a bit worried they missed important information. Cal was lucky she had Wally on her team and she had hoped he paid attention long enough to understand.

After she put her armor on, she walked up to help him as he was having trouble putting on his. She questioned him about the parts she missed and thank goodness he actually did pay attention this time. He was able to answer her questions the Wally way which would be confusing to others but she was used to it.

She tied the last string in place and smacked the side of it, "There, all done."

He rubbed his side through the armor, "You know that really wasn't necessary."

"Mmm, yeah it was. Think of it as good luck."

Wally smirked and slung his arm around her right shoulder, wrapping it fully around her front so that his hand was able to touch her other shoulder. This action prompted Cal to be brought in close to his body with almost no room between them and his face only a few centimeters away from hers. Cal then placed her hand on his arm but to everyone's surprise, she did not remove his arm. Instead, she seemed as though she was unbothered by his action and maybe even enjoying it.

"Babe, I don't need luck, I'm one of the fastest heroes alive. You guys are so lucky to have me on your team." He brought her in closer, "I was thinking, when we win this thing, you can give me my reward later."

"Oh yeah and what exactly did you have in mind," Cal said. Playing along with him.

"I was thinking maybe massaging my feet while telling me how great I am, or maybe we could, you know… kiss." He whispered the last part in her ear.

Or at least he thought he did because the moment he said it almost everyone stopped what they were doing. Even though they were staring beforehand, they were not sure how to react. That is except for two particular individuals who had a hint of jealousy in their eyes. And Dick of course who looked at them in disgust. Cal didn't get the opportunity to respond as Green Arrow was standing right behind them towering over the two.

He leaned over enough to match their height placing a hand on Wally's unoccupied shoulder and squeezing hard enough for a cracking nose to be heard.

And in a low but menacing voice, he threatened Wally.

"Wallace Rudolph West you will remove your filthy hands from my niece if you know what's good for you. Or you will no longer be called Kid Flash but Kid Crippled."

Wally released Cal so fast that all she saw was a blur. When she looked up she saw him on the other side of the room standing next to Conner and the mysterious guy.

Green Arrow straightened back up to make the last announcement, "Now that you have on your equipment and have your weapons, gather with your team. You will have one minute to decide on a team captain and everyone's role. Then you will come up with a plan on how to complete the objective. Any questions?"

Maria raised her hand, "What about those of us who have never used a bow and arrow before?"

"And those of us whose weakness is fire and lava?" M'gann chimed in as she pointed to Kaldur and herself.

"That's the point of this exercise. Yes, it was designed to make you work harder and to use things you have never used before. But it was also designed for you to find ways to overcome your weaknesses. You have teammates for a reason, use them. Any more questions?"

No hands were raised this time, "No? Good. Go meet up with your team members and sort everything out. Your time starts now."

Summary: A peaceful day at the Cave is interrupted by the fight between our beloved couple, Spitfire. Pairing: Wally West aka Kid Flash x Artemis Crock aka Artemis Rating || Genres || Warnings: K. Romance. None. A/N: So this fic was actually my first ever piece of writing when I was just a teenager. And I just wanted to share it with you guys because it has a special place in my heart :) Also this fic features some of my first ever OCs. I never really got around to writing much about them, but maybe in the future I might!

"WHAT DID YOU SAY WEST?!"

The shout rang throughout the cave.

In the mission de-briefing room, Hestia (Druid) blew her bangs off her face as she looked up from where she had Dick (Nightwing) in a headlock. The boy in question frowned wriggling out of her hold, both of them sitting up as they regained their breath after their spar.

Conner (Superboy) rolled his eyes as he leaned against the cave wall, lowering his head as he adjusted his gloves, the small smirk playing on his lips giving away his true emotion, while Sphere beeped in confusion, rolling closer to the cloned teen.

Rory's (Celtic Girl) attention was diverted from the puzzle she was solving, with Red Tornado, as she glanced up curious.

Kaldur (Aqualad) looked up from where he had been reading his file, shaking his head in the direction of the shout.

Megan (Miss Martian) stopped mid sentence, her surprise at the shout showing on her face, ending the conversation with Zatanna and Barbara (Batgirl), who looked equally surprised.

Yue opened her eyes, from where she had been hovering in mid air while she meditated, in the corner of the mission room.

Tim (Robin) sighed in quite frustration, while his girlfriend, Cassie (Wonder Girl), giggled under her breath.

Jamie, Bart, Isolt and Gar (Blue Beetle, Impulse, Celtic Girl and Beast Boy) looked up from where they had been playing cards on the floor.

Karan (Bumblebee) stopped from where she had been slurping a soda, while her boyfriend, Duncan (Guardian), halted from taking a bite from the apple he was holding.

Every eye was trained towards the entrance of the cave and sure enough a clearly pissed off, blonde came stomping into the room, with her ginger boyfriend following in after her.

"Aww come on Artemis think about it?"

He said still walking after her.

"Think about what?"

A curious Garfield piped up.

His sister shot him a warning glance but Artemis didn't care, as she rounded on the green skinned boy.

"Kid Idiot here said that he doesn't like my name and that I should change it!"

For a few seconds silence met her words. Yue tilted her head in confusion.

"But why do you not like Artemis's name Wally?"

Karan perked up.

"Yea! What's wrong with the girls name?" She put a hand on her hip as she frowned at Wally. He grinned as he placed his hands behind his head and shrugged.

"I just don't like it that's all. I mean she doesn't seem to be kind of an Artemis girl but we can always change that to Diana!"

He nodded pleased with himself, then continued.

"But her last name!"

He shuddered. Jamie frowned.

"Whats wrong with her last name?" He asked.

Wally turned to him.

"Oh come on dude! I mean have you ever heard of a name like Crock, in your life before?"

Kaldur sighed.

"Wally!" He muttered in exasperation but he was ignored.

"I mean come on!"

The red head threw his arms up in frustration. Megan and Barbara visibly winced at the glare Artemis was shooting in her boyfriends direction.

"And what is wrong with my last name may I ask?" She said through gritted teeth. The boy frowned walking forward and poking his girlfriend in the forehead.

"It sucks!" He said.

The blonde's hands curled in fists by her sides. Cassie read her body language.

"Here it comes!" She whispered to Tim, who shook his head.

"Idiot!" The Boy Wonder muttered under his breath. Just than Artemis threw a punch aimed straight at Wally's jaw. It would've broken the bone had he not quickly dodged it and grabbed her fist.

"I mean really you should change it."

He continued as she kept throwing punches at him, which he dodged, using his super speed, making her even angrier. She cried out as she kicked out her leg, trying to sweep him off his feet. He jumped up to avoid it. The girl was panting now, but Wally hadn't even broken a sweat. She stopped to catch her breath.

"CHANGE IT TO WHAT?!"

She shouted looking at him, still trying to catch her breath. Suddenly his expression turned serious.

"West!"

For a moment time seemed to stopped. Everybody was too shocked to even move. The only sound heard was that of Artemis's ragged breaths.

Hestia giggled through the psychic link she and Dick shared.

"And it is sinking in!" She said still giggling as Artemis's eyes widened in disbelief. Dick grinned.

"And he's just going to walk away!" He said as Wally began to walk away, slowly, hands in his pocket. Artemis seemed to have lost her voice. Finally she blurted out.

"Did you...?"

Conner shook his head, grinning.

"DID YOU JUST PROPOSE TO ME?!"

Artemis all but screamed to the speedsters retreating back. Isolt squealed under her breath, grabbing Bart's hand on impulse.(A/N: Lol) Duncan chuckled as the blonde walked after her boyfriend née fiance.

"DON'T YOU WALK AWAY FROM ME!" She shouted. Rory giggled as Wally passed her sending a smirk and a wink in the little girls way.

"ARE YOU SMIRKING?!"

She was rewarded with the laughter of her team mates, as the red head kept walking. That only seemed to make her madder.

"COME BACK HERE YOU LITTLE..."

She was cut off by Wally waving a finger in the air.

"Nu Uh! Artemis! Watch your language!"

He stopped, for a minute, turning his face around, grinning.

"There are kids present."

He started walking again. The archer sighed in frustration and anger. She looked down at her boots.

"Alright!" She said loudly. She lowered her head.

I'll- i'll change my name to West!"

She grumbled blushing furiously, a small smile creeping up her face, as her eyes shone with happiness. She looked up.

"Now will you pleas-mumph..."

The rest of her sentence was cut off as the happy speedster raced over to her, cutting her off with a kiss. She rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless as she wrapped her arms around his neck, closing her eyes as she kissed him back. The onlookers burst into celebration. Megan and Zatanna hugged each other in happiness. Barbara, Duncan, Karan, Jamie, Garfield, Tim and Cassie began hooting and applauding. Isolt squealed as she wrapped her arms around Bart hugging him, he laughed hugging her back, twirling her around a bit. Kaldur sighed in relief as he smiled. Yue laughed, wrapping her arms around her boyfriend's neck from behind. Rory clapped her hands and unconsciously began to float away, but was quickly grabbed at the ankle by Red Tornado. Sphere began to beep and hum in happiness. The couple broke apart from their embrace. Wally looked at his fiance as he slipped a ring onto her ring finger. Artemis bit her lip as she blushed. This time everyone began to clap and holler. Conner gave a wolf-whistle earning an amused look from his friend, who was hugging his new fiancé. Hestia grinned as she let loose a few bursts of pink energy, which immediately burst, making a small firework display. Over the noise of the applause, wolf whistling and fireworks Dicks voice could be heard.

"If anybody needs a copy just let me know, I recorded the whole thing."

"DICK!"

His best friend yelled at him, as everyone laughed. Hestia laughed.

"Once a troll, forever a troll!" she said, winking in the newly engaged couple's way.

I know the Martian Manhunter one is well overdue - that is coming in the next few days.

Salem, my cat, is still missing. She is the first pet to have ever gone missing in my life and since I adopted her as a kitten and know how easily scared she is (and honestly, how kinda stupid), I have been tearing myself apart trying to find her. Essentially that has been my life since she went missing.

I am starting to get a little better despite this and have gotten back to writing. i was reviewing the Martian Manhunter story and there are some things I am unhappy with and am currently editing those pieces. It shouldn't take too long. It will be up in the next day or two after editing has finished and I proof it for grammar and spelling.

Someone else sent a new request, I will accept it and make a post about it shortly. The Blue Beetle ones do come before that new one, along with the sequels to the Kon Kent and Future Worries fics - after this MM one is up, of course.

And there are some originals coming. One is kind of a vent x Reader, with Bart, so expect that too.

You are also about to see a new masterpost hitting soon for a chapter story. I know most of you will have no interest in it because it is OC/Canon, like This Too Shall Pass. But the whole thing is 30 chapters and i realized as I wrote it I could actually post it. So that will be appearing every now and again as well.

Hopefully this all makes sense, I am pretty tired right now and it's late but I have work to get back to.

February 15, 7:00 PST

"I'm guessing that you've had a busy month."

Jenna gave a wry grin as she settled back into the plush cushions behind her. "How'd you figure?" she asked. "Was it because it's been over a month since we've last done one of these sessions?"

The man sitting across from her smiled in return. "Something like that," he said simply. "Why don't you give me a rundown of the important parts?"

Firstly, there was the thing with Sam.

The kid was an actual meta-human.

Looking back on it, it was almost ridiculous how that little fact had managed to stay a secret for so long. So many situations happened where that could have been discovered and yet it still managed to slip under their radar.

He called it a 'messed up version of echolocation'. It was like his sense of awareness had been cranked up to a thousand, giving him a mental map of everything around him to know exactly who or what was around him before anyone else did. The size of said things depended on how clear they were in his mind, but he was getting the hang of it.

It sucked for the first few days. It was all so new and unexpected that even the slightest shift in someone's stance nearby would nearly make him keel over. Then the next few weeks involved a lot of effort to learn to separate his usual sense of feeling from the amplified version. It was necessary if he was ever going to get it under control; the last thing he wanted was to be stuck like that, only able to see through vibrations essentially. 

Jenna had drug him out of the Premiere Building's medbay, grappling with the fact that she essentially had to re-teach control to her protégé. Something she had to learn herself at a young age.

Her own powers had woken when she was just seven years old. She had gone to the mall with her family and, due to it being so crowded, she got lost. Her fear was already overwhelming her, but it was someone grabbing her by the arm that set it off. She had let out a scream, but what came out was no ordinary cry from a child.

Amid the chaos and confusion of 'why is that little girl screaming so loudly' and 'how did those store windows suddenly shatter', Jenna's mom found her and immediately grabbed her and her sister, rushing all of them home. Then the following days consisted of teaching Jenna how to handle her newfound Canary Cry–the exact same that her mom and sister had.

Which is what Jenna had been doing with Sam almost twenty years later. Easier said than done when it was nothing she had dealt with before, but the only way to get better was to force him to work on that control. They found that meditation helped. Forcing oneself to let everything go and then pick and choose what to allow back in. 

It was helping, little by little, and so was learning to hone that ability when one couldn't rely on vision. He had also joked that wearing a blindfold so many times was going to improve his hearing too.

"What else?"

Then there was the situation with Artemis that took place just the night before.

Annabella woke up with a smile as she remembered that today she would be going back Mount Justice to hang out with the team. Skipping down to the kitchen she said good morning to Alfred and helped him finish up breakfast.

Her father and brother came in just as they finished setting up the plates. Bruce smiled as she placed his plate in front of him and gave her a quick peck on her forehead.

“I have a meeting this morning so I have to go in a bit. Dick you have training with the team and Annabella.”

“I can go once I’m done with my chores for the day.” She finished for him.

“I’ll see you later today.” Bruce said as he finished up his breakfast. “Be good both of you.”

Annabella nodded as she munched on her toast. Dick got up after a few minutes having scarfed down his food.

“Well better get to training.” He said with a smug smile.

“Hope you get your butt handed to you.” Annabella grumbled.

“Master Dick, please clean your plate before you leave.” Alfred scolded since Dick only tossed his dish in the sink.

The rest of the morning passed by quickly as Annabella got her chores done. Soon she was packing her stuff, grabbing her laptop and a couple of notebooks. She hopped down the stairs to the bat cave and put in the code to disable the voice announcements as she stepped through the Zeta Tube.

However she froze in place when she saw the whole team gathered around along with her father. Spotting her brothers smirk she quickly tried to backtrack but her fathers voice stopped her.

“Bells I was wondering when you’d get here. We can begin now. Come on.” He ushered her forward and she internally cringed.

Please don’t embarrass me, please don’t embarrass me. She thought.

“My daughter will be spending most of her time here since she is doing homeschool. However there are some rules I’d like to establish.”

“Dad.” Annabella whined. “I already know the rules.”

“They still need to be informed. So first she is to not go on any mission. Second if you wish to visit Happy Harbor or any city with her, you will inform Red Tornado. Third you must carry one of these at all times.” Annabella’s eyes widen in horror as she saw him holding her inhaler.

“Dad.” She protested. “I haven’t had an asthma attack in almost a year.”

“That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be prepared.” Bruce gave her a warning look and began handing out inhaler to the team.

M’gann and Kaldur seemed to look at them curiously but Superboy simply shrugged and tucked it into his pocket.

“Why doesn’t Wally get one?” Superboy asked.

“That’s because I already got my own bat issued inhaler.” Wally smiled as he pulled out an inhaler from his jacket, Annabella noticed it was tacked with bat symbol stickers and one flash sticker.

Annabella smiled softly but it quickly dropped when her dad began in lecture on proper use of the inhaler. By the time it was over Annabella he her face buried in hr hands.

“I believe that’s all. Robin I need you back in Gotham.”

Robin nodded and followed him back. Annabella straightened up took a deep breath and stared at everyone.

“Right well I’m gonna go do some of my school work.”

“Do you need a guide?” M’gann asked.

“Nope I know my way around.” Annabella smiled tightly as she walked off still feeling embarrassed.

She sighed as she plopped on the bed of one of the rooms and screamed into the pillows. Once she calmed down she fished out her laptop and began her work.

Feeling her stomach growl Annabella slightly jumped and blinked, feeling her eyes burn. Rubbing them she looked at the time and did a double take. Had she really been working that long? Stretching she felt something pop and groaned.

Getting up she made her way to the kitchen. She spotted all the guys in the lounge area, Wally was apparently trying to teach them how to play a certain video game. M’gann was in the kitchen her back towards Annabella as she was busy mixing something in a bowl.

“Watcha making?” Annabella asked as she approached the counter only to duck as a wooden spoon went whizzing over her head.

Peeking over the counter top Annabella saw M’gann look of honor and burst into a fit of giggled.

“I think you’ll give my grandmother a run for her money with those spoon skills.” Annabella snickered.

“Well now I know why Wally calls you Bells.” M’gann composed herself as she made the spoon float back.

“So what are you making?” Annabella asked again as she stuck a finger in the bowl and tasted it.

“Lasagna, though this sauce isn’t looking right.” M’gann frowned at the bowl.

“Rule number one about cookbooks always go crazy with the spices.” Annabella paused as she sniffed one of the spices. “Put some of this in.”

“Alright food is ready guys.” Annabella called out as she started cutting up the lasagna and placing slices on the plates M’gann was making float.

Wally passed by and ruffled Annabella’s hair, she swatted his hand away giving his a playful glare. Everyone muttered a thank you as they grabbed their plate, but as soon as everyone sat down a small cloud of awkwardness began to loom over them. Annabella knew the team barely had time to bond in the couple of weeks it had been formed but she couldn’t help but blame her father for making things embarrassing for her.

“Are you alright Bells?” Annabella looked up at Kaldur feeling concern poke at her.

“Yeah I’m fine.” She smiled reassuringly but Kaldur didn’t seem satisfied.

“You were in there for quite some time.” He added.

“I was doing school work, lost track of time.” Annabella shrugged, still Kaldur didn’t budge. Damn he was good. “My dad has a good way embarrassing me without really trying. You really don’t have to listen to what he told you earlier, I know the rules I know what I can and can't do.”

“What about the inhalers? Wally always seems to have his on hand.” Superboy pointed out.

Annabella groaned placing her face in her hands. “I had an asthma attack one time and my inhaler was tucked away in my bag in the house. One time! And I was eight. I know better now. But I am his only daughter and given the things he’s seen as Batman he just… worries… a lot.”

“Is that why you’re being homeschooled?” M’gann asked.

“No that was actually my choice.” Annabella said taking a bite of her food.

“Why would you want to be homeschooled? Isn’t school fun? With extracurricular activities? School dances? Pep rallies, and being with friends?”

Annabella couldn’t help but feel like if M’gann had learned everything about school through the lens of an over glorified version of it on an 80's sitcom. Still Annabella could feel M’ganns hopefulness and decided she needed to choose her words carefully.

“School can be fun, but its also not for everyone. Sometimes depending on who you are certain expectations are made of you and people can look at you differently because of it. At least in homeschool. I can be a bit more in control of the situation and be able to progress how I want without judgement.”

“Oh.” Was M’ganns simple response though Annabella was glad to feel that she wasn’t completely let down.

However she did feel something come from Kaldur. A sense of sadness and understanding? She wondered about that last one.

Once everyone as done with their food they all moved to the lounge area where Wally began to flip channels.

“You know not everyone has super speed.” Annabella retorted as she plopped on the sofa with her laptop.

Wally stuck his tongue out at her but she simply laid her legs on his lap and opened up her laptop.

“You two have known each other long?” M’gann asked.

“I knew him when he was just a dork, now he’s a dork with powers.”

“How did you know him before?” Kaldur asked.

“I grew up with most of the league members as my babysitters. Like I said my dad is very protective.” Annabella sighed as she typed away her homework.

“So you know who Superman is.” Superbly said in a gruff voice, though his expression was stiff. Annabella could, like always, feel his anger.

“Yeah, I know him. And you know being Superman is a big responsibility. A responsibility that he, like you, was integrated deeply into him. For the longest time he’s been the only kryptonian. A concept that’s going to be hard for him to let go now that your have appeared. Now it doesn’t excuse his asshole behavior but hopefully this will make you I understand what exactly you are dealing with.” Annabella kept her eyes on superbly the whole time she spoke, He in turn just slightly nodded and looked away from her.

“How old are you?” Kaldur asked and Annabella smiled at him.

“Sorry you gotta be a level 3 friend to unlock my background information.”

“Really we can’t even know your age?” Superboy asked.

“Nope, at least not until my dad says so.” Annabella sighed. “Paranoid dad remember.”

Everyone nodded and focused not he tv as Wally finally selected a channel.

The rest of the evening was spent teaching the two aliens and Atlantan about pop culture. In the end Annabella made a list of tv shows, movies, and even food that they would need to try out. In turn they offered to help with her homework no matter how much Annabella insisted she had it under control. Still it was fun to hear Superboy spew out facts when asked a question. It was also fascinating to hear Kaldur version of mythology. M’gann simply found the concept of homework interesting.

An hour before she had to go Annabella decided to gather her things and everyone said they’d better get to sleep anyways since they weren’t sure how often they might get days like this off. When Annabella walked out of the room she had left her backpack in Wally was waiting for her.

“So.” He said smiling down at her. “Why are you really here? Finally decided to take it the sidekick business?”

“No.” Annabella punched him as she made her way to the Zeta Tubes.

“Come on Bells its me, you can tell me.” Wally slung his arm around her shoulders however her silence did worry him usually she would smile and shove him off. “Bells?”

Annabella sighed her eyes looking around the large room.

“My powers have been getting stronger recently. My last year of school was getting difficult my mind would wander off a lot and my teacher wouldn’t like that. Doesn’t help that everyone thinks I’m going to take over dads business when I’m older. They’re already making me choose classes to “help” me” Annabella huffed.

“But that’s not what you want.” It was more a statement than a question, she shook her head.

“I love my dad but I don’t want his legacy I don’t want to just be Bruce Wayne's daughter. I was born with these powers for a reason I want to do good with them. So I hoped being with people like me I can figure out what that is.”

Wally brought her in for a hug. “You really need to stop growing up so fast.”

Annabella laughed. “Sorry never did get taken to Neverland.”

Annabella waved goodbye as she stood in the tube feeling herself getting pulled back home.

SUPER-BOYFRIEND; wally west

•wally brings his girlfriend to meet his superhero friends

“are you sure they’re gonna like me wally?” i undid my hair for the hundredth time.

wally smiled from behind me. he took the hair tie from my fingers and with his soft fingers he tied it up himself. “they’ll love you baby.” he leant his head down and kissed the nape of my neck “you look beautiful. now let’s get going okay?”

i nodded and let wally put his arm tightly around my waist. i prepared for him to speed away, knowing i usually get nauseous on the long trips.

i felt my heels click on the ground as wally placed me down. we automatically intertwined our fingers as we stared at the group of heroes in front of us. wally brought up our connected hands and kissed my knuckles “you ready babe?” he asked.

i tried to show some confidence as i nodded. “oh there’s wally!” i heard a voice cherp. the girl speaking had freckles and reddish-brown hair. from wally’s stories and photos i’ve seen, i was aware that was megan aka miss martian.

“i want to go home now” i whispered to wally. now, the four friends sitting at the table looked towards our direction, all smiling.

wally, who let out a chuckle shook his head at me “i’ll sit through each and every episode of gilmore girls with you if you do this y/n.”

this bastard i thought as a smiled formed on my face “fine.” i gave wally a peck on the cheek before he began to walk towards his friends with the widest smile.

“hello everybody” he dragged out the ‘hello’ “this is my lovely girlfriend, y/n, n/n this is artemis, megan, connor, and dick.” he pointed to each of his friends.

“hey.” they all smiled and waved. i said hello back and wally slid out a chair for me to sit down. you sat between wally and artemis, dick sat on the other side of wally, then was connor and back to megan who sat on the other side of artemis.

“well y/n, so tell about how wally has been treating you? i swear if he messed up i’m gonna beat his ass.” artemis smiled at me but glared daggers at wally.

i laughed at this and shook my head “wally’s been treating me better than amazing. he leaves time for his hero work then plenty of time for me. he’s honestly amazing.

megan awe’d and artemis and connor leaned back in their chairs with satisfied smiles. dick gave his best friend a pat on the shoulder as a way of saying “she’s perfect for you, don’t fuck it up.”

“awh babe, you’re too good for me.” wally pouted all which made me blush from the tiny bit of embarrassment and the look on wally’s face.

“don’t make me regret saying it wally.” i pointed a finger at him. wally placed his hands up in defense but his smile never faded.

“really though, i might take y/n here from you.” artemis winked at me. i laughed and turned back to wally who now had a (false) scared look. he grabbed ahold of my chair and pulled me closer to him

“artemis back off from my girlfriend.”

“never.”

“okay let’s stop this before someone ends up getting thrown into the table and we are forced to pay for it. again.” dick chuckled nervously, putting his hand slightly out so nobody gets ideas.

“again?” i asked with wide eyes “this has happened before?”

“well yeah, the throwing each other into tables part happened a few times. once was me throwing wally into a table, the next was dick somehow throwing me into a metal table.”

i had an amazed look on my face as i sharply turned my head towards wally “why did you never tell me about this?”

“it was embarrassing.”

“—oh it was hilarious—“

“shut up connor.”

“you guys have to tell me more stories about wally, clearly he doesn’t tell me enough of the juicy stuff.” i folded my hands and kicked my feet under the table like a giddy child.

“baby no, don’t let them do this.” wally buried his head into my shoulder embarrassed. i patted his adorable red hair in fake sympathy.

“you can keep your head here but nothing is stopping me from hearing some embarrassing stories about you.”

“i have so many for you.” dick chuckled ominously.

“oh me too!” followed up megan.
