Anyone who knows SAKURA HARUKA probably knows that contrary to the delinquent facade he puts up, he is actually quite innocent. A little naive, if you will, blushing at every show of romantic affection. And everyone in Boufuurin knows that’s why he’s become subject to Suou Hayato’s teasing when the brown haired boy needed a good chuckle. And of course, you, as his very lovely partner, had to also jump on the bandwagon of endearingly poking fun at your boyfriend. 

“Y’know, Haruka, you should stop me or else I’m gonna get carried away and keep teasing you even after we get married!” This was a sentence you often say for laughs after you had yet again successfully made Haruka agitated and his cheeks flushing a deep shade of red, all the way up to his ears. Granted, the first time he heard it he couldn’t look you in the eye for two whole days at the mention marriage (it’s not that he doesn’t like it, in fact it was because he likes it a little too much that he couldn’t even make eye contact without imagining you in fancy white attire). But now, he barely bats an eye at it now with how often you say it. But today, it’s evident that that particular sentence had poked at someone’s curiosity as you can sense someone staring at you as you banter with your boyfriend. 

“You know, Sakura-kun, I barely see you reacting to... that. You’re really planning to marry them in the future, huh?” Ah, it's Suou again. His soothing voice drips with mischief, the purpose of his question is obviously to tease his heterochromatic eyed peer yet again. Haruka’s features morph into one of confusion, brows furrowed as he turns to face his vice captain. 

“Hah? What are you talking about?” Haruka inquires like suou’s question is the most ridiculous question in the world. If you didn’t know any better you would have thought suou was asking him if he believed pigs could fly, or if the earth was actually a hexagon. 

(Of course, you can’t lie, suou’s question made you nervous despite how lighthearted he said it. Your self consciousness has already prepared itself for a heartbreak trip as you await your boyfriend to continue his response.)

“Why would I date someone I don’t intend on marrying?” 

Ah, now it’s your cheeks that are heating up. 

“Are you done?” The only answer SUOU HAYATO offers to your inquiry is a focused hum. His hand fumbles with the earring, his earring, as he tries to carefully slide the hook into the small hole on your right earlobe. Though, you have to say, you have nothing particular to complain about as you wait for your boyfriend to put the earring on you. After all, you’re getting the privilege of being in the front seat staring at Suou Hayato’s face as he carefully tries to put the earring on you. Lips pursed and eyes squinted a little, he looks extra handsome when he’s focused, you note. 

“Just need to secure them with the back. And... done!” he heaves out a breath as triumph takes over his features, pulling back slightly to admire his (hardly) hard work. His lips stretch into a smile, satisfied at how the red and yellow of his earring highlights your features more. 

“How does it look?” you feel quite nervous as you wait for his reply, shyly peering at him through your eyelashes. Being so close, you have the advantage of watching closely for any twitch of his features that might indicate satisfaction, dissatisfaction, anything that can indicate what kind of reaction he’s going to emit. 

You twitch slightly at the sensation of his pointer finger and middle finger grazing your chin, touch gentle as he settles them there. You swear you see something flashing in his usually gentle ruby eyes. Something akin to satisfaction, or, even, possessiveness. But you don't comment on it. He moves your head from your side to side as if to examine you thoroughly. (he quietly notes how cute you are for compliantly moving your head.) It’s only when you feel the earring faintly brushing against your right shoulder that you become hyper aware of how empty your left ear feels without an earring weighing it down. You also become hyper aware of the fact that the earring’s pair is still dangling from his left ear, eyes instinctively flitting to it. Your cheeks begin to heat up. Oh, it’s almost as if you’re wearing a couple ite-

He interrupts your thought before you can finish it.

“I quite like it, it’s pretty on you,” his voice breaks your train of thought. His smile is quite literally dripping with mischief, and now you can clearly see it. The tint of greed in his eyes is back as he moves his fingers that were formerly resting on your chin to stroke at the earring on your ear. His composed facade would have fooled you if it weren’t for the words he utters next.

“It gives off the feeling that you’re mine.” 

Oh he likes it, alright. Too much, maybe.

“Sorry. D’you need a break?” NIREI AKIHIKO’s voice is devoid of any teasing lilt, instead dripping with concern as he gazes at you through his eyelashes, eyes half lidded and cheeks flushed with a pretty tint of pink. 

It’s not the words by themselves. It’s the fact that he’s saying those words in this kind of situation. By this kind of situation, you mean with you perched up on his lap, legs splayed on either side of his thighs as he lay seated on a couch beneath you. He had uttered those exact words after what felt like 10 minutes straight of kissing

(it hadn’t even been 5 minutes, but you could barely think with how clouded your mind is). 

His question was thoroughly leaking with worry, caramel orbs boring through you as he awaits your reply. You wanted to say yes, hell, your lungs were begging you to say yes as they heaved desperately yes. You have to give your boyfriend credit, though. Sweet like always, he had noticed he had gone a little too far when he felt your lips part with breathless whines on his, and had asked if you needed a time out. Though, you don’t think he’s aware of how his voice shakes with want, or how his fingers that are resting on your hips squeezed hard like he was trying to ground himself, or how his eyes are swirling with something akin to need.

(or how he barely sounded apologetic when he apologized, and you suspect it’s because his pride soars with the knowledge that he’s the one making you breathless.)

“No,” you’re surprised at how hoarse your voice sounds, though, that is to be expected after you quite literally just had your breath taken away. Your thumb reaches out to swipe at his quivering bottom lip, gleaming with saliva and a little swollen from pressing against yours repeatedly. He leans into your touch, and you gulp away the feeling of your tugging heartstrings. “Keep kissing me, lover boy.” 

And as he lurches forward to clash your lips together again, the last thought that etches on your mind was that he really should put this on his resume: Nirei Akihiko, 16, not good at fighting (yet), hella good at kissing.

You had no idea what was happening. One moment you were watching as Cassandra was about to let the giant monster known as Alioth eat you, the next you were being squished by Deadpool on some type of rocket soaring through the sky escaping the close clutches of death itself.

There wasn't much time to process anything because you were already about to crash, and were flung straight into the hard, dusty ground you've come to know as the Void.

A groan escaped you lips as you sat up, looking towards your new companion's, Deadpool and Wolverine; noticing how Deadpool was on top of him, your brows raised a bit.

"What cha' thinking 'bout?" Deadpool asked him, his voice laced with an innocent tone.

Logan wasn't fond of this at all, "Get the fuck off of me," he said, almost growling at the man.

"Shh shh, almost done"

"Almost done what?!" he look up at Deadpool, concerned about what he meant by that.

Deadpool now changed his tone to a more annoyed one, "Getting my knife out of your buttock, you pervert! Get your bind out of my pants!" Both men were now getting up, "I'm telling Blake!"

Deadpool looked over to you and grabbed your arm pulling you up next to him. Then he gave you a silly thumbs up, which you didn't understand why but just gave him a smile in return as a thank you for the gesture.

"New rule!" Logan began again, "I talk now" this time he looked at you as well.

"I haven't even said anything?!" You looked at him confused. Throwing your arms up a bit, and looking at Deadpool as well.

"Hush little one, Papa is talking right now" Deadpool looked over to you, holding up one finger to signal you to be quiet as he talked to Logan. You threw your arms up again now looking at Logan as he groaned at whatever was going on, obviously exhausted.

"Shut the fuck up!" Logan had now turned around, "Let me fucking think, we gotta get back to paradox right? Right?"

"Am I allowed to speak now?" Deadpool asked him sarcastically, you could tell he was smiling.

"Just nod asshole" Logan was fed up at this point.

Deadpool gave in and gave Logan a slight up and down, letting his buddy say what he needed to. Logan then looked at you as if something in his brain clicked.

"Johnny said something about others before you got him killed!"

"Poor kid? He was like fifty!" Deadpool shoots back, insulted by the comment.

Logan looked back at you, "You've been here longer then any of us have, do you know where we can find these guys?"

You hesitated before speaking to him, "I have an idea," you said, Logan looked back at Deadpool and nodded.

"You're gonna help us find them and get us out of here," Logan told you. He wasn't willing to listen to any protest, but you didn't care to argue, this was your chance at escape and by God you were gonna take it.

"Alright, I'll do my best then." You nodded at him, jumping on the bandwagon of opportunity.

"Oh I knew it was a good idea to bring you along sugar sprinkles!" Deadpool said as he patted your back, which honestly felt more like a hard slap, that lightly pushed you forward.

"You better fix my shit like you fucking promised," Logan pointed his finger at Deadpool's chest as you stepped to the side, look straight ahead noticing something in the distance.

"I smell a quest!"

"I smell food,"

This caused both men to look at what you were looking at.

A little restaurant not to far from here.

Logan was turning the place upside, you were unsure what he was looking for as he'd already found you guys some unopened spam to eat.

Deadpool finally had his mask off and you noticed what he looked like without it, you couldn't help but feel bad for him, even with the way he is, something tragic must have happened for his face to be all scarred the way it was.

"So what made you finally wear an honest to God costume?" He asked in between bites, "Mines red so they can't see me bleed." This time he turned to you and gave you a strange smile as he took yet another bite. "I can see how yellow can be useful too!"

Logan turned around and stared him down, "Have you been checked for ADHD?"

"Nu uh," Deadpool answered, mouth full with a big smile.

"You should," This time you answered as you finally tried the spam, it wasn't too bad for God knows how old it could've been.

You could hear a chuckle come from Logan as he continued his search.

"Though I've had several STD's, probably caused by ADHD" Deadpool told you guys.

You just rolled your eyes at him, wondering where he gets these ideas from. You guys both sat there longer watching Logan. Deadpool sat on one side of the booth, you sat on the edge of the table a bit, and Logan was still searching.

"What are you even looking for?" You asked the bigger man, curious what was making him more frustrated then the red masked fellow next to you.

All you heard was a mumble before you saw him grab a bottle of rubbing alcohol.

"No no no no no, that's rubbing alcohol, you don't want to-" Before he could even finish his sentence Logan had already chugged most of it down, you turned a bit to him and sat yourself next to Deadpool watching Logan come towards the table, "Oh yup there you go, there you go, fuck that liver."

"Don't come to me when you need a liver transplant," Deadpool gave an amused snuff at your comment and turned back to the big fellow.

"What the fuck are those?" Logan was looking at, staples in Deadpool's head? You turned to look at it and you stared a little too hard that you could see the little strands of most likely fake hair pinched in between it.

"Oh, back in civilian life I wore a toupee, but nobody knows," Deadpool gave a little smile as he looked at you guys, touching his phantom hair.

Both you and Logan began to laugh a little at this, "They fucking know" you told him.

Logan joined in on the teasing, "Everybody knows," Logan gave you a smile, being glad someone else is there to help him tease the annoying red suited vigilante.

"Wanna talk about what's haunting you, or are we gonna wait for a third act flashback?"

"Ughh go fuck yourself," this was all it took for Logan to go back to the bar stools as he sat there, drinking his rubbing alcohol.

You gave Deadpool and annoyed look at elbowed him a bit, trying to get him to lay off the man a bit; it seemed to get through to him, as he rolled his eyes and began to talk again, "In my world, you're uh, well regarded."

"Not in mine," Logan didn't look back, he just took another sip.

"Well they don't like me much in my world," Deadpool said trying to lighten the mood.

"We couldn't tell.." You told him, as you stood up and threw away your empty spam cup.

"I wanted to be something, you know? Shit, I wanted to be an Avenger!"

"Fuck the Avengers,"

"I didn't make the cut though, same with the X-men," Deadpool paused, picking his next words wisely. "My girlfriend left me,"

"You had a girlfriend?" Logan asked, with genuine curiosity.

"Yea, Vanessa, when we met she was a dancer, made a whole life, it was good, but oh boy I just, uh"

You stood by the trash, leaning against the wall, not wanting to intrude on their moment.

"But fuck, you were an X-men, fuck that you were the X-man. You, uh the Wolverine, you were a hero in my world."

"Yea well, he ain't shit in mine." Logan finished his drink, if that's what you could even call it.

Deadpool turned to you, as if asking you to say something too. You let out a bit of a sigh before speaking.

"You saved me in my world."

Logan turned his head a little bit, and Deadpool gave you a somber look, unlike his normal self.

"I was in an accident, but I saw this man with metal claws, he helped me, he got me out." You closed your eyes and breathed.

"It inspired me to become who I am today, every Wolverine, is a hero in every universe, no matter what." You looked up at the both of them, "Well it's what I think at least. I didn't recognize you at first, but when I heard your name, I knew who you were, even if you aren't from my universe."

Logan looked back down at his empty hands, he began to think. The silence was killing you. Deadpool could tell and so he went back to his normal demeanor. "Alright sugar tits," Deadpool looks at Logan, "Time to go!"

It was time to continue your adventure in finding the people who would help you escape this place.

Prediction: There will be a running joke throughout the entire movie in which characters keep commenting on how Shadow looks "just like" Sonic. Sonic will hotly deny this because they obviously look nothing alike. Shadow will take it as an insult at first ("How dare you compare me to that inferior hedgehog!"), but the nanosecond he realizes Sonic hates it so much he will jump on the bandwagon with the most childish glee he's ever had since Maria died.

At the end someone will finally say they look nothing alike, Sonic will shout "THANK YOU!" and finally feel validated, only for Shadow to immediately throw an arm over his shoulders and ask "What, you don't see the resemblance?" with the most infuriatingly smug grin possible.

Ahh yes, you finally turn thirteen. Your mother thought it was finally time to own your own phone.

“Now y/n, this phone is not a toy obviously, so take good care of it” “-uh huh” you say, not even looking at your mother. You were too excited to listen to your mother now that you’re already setting up your phone. “And you can have social media and I trust you enough not to talk to weirdos on the internet. This is your phone and you deserve privacy so I’m not going to look through your phone. Although, I will have a tracker on your phone. I need to know where you are all times.” Even though your mother doesn’t like that you’re not looking at her, she knows that you’re listening. “It’s not like I sneak out mom” “Yeah but I don’t feel like texting you to see where you are” You both giggle. “Thanks mom, I’ll take care of this phone” you say as you give her the tightest hug.

The next day, you return to your middle school, secretly showing off your phone to your friends since your school has no phone policy.

“Have you gotten Captures yet” Asked your best friend Unasaka. “What’s that?” You asked curiously. “A social media app that you can chat with people and like their pictures” she said, eager to make you an account. The only social media platform you interacted with is YouTube and Roblox but you’ve never made an account to interact with their pictures or chat with them. “I’m not sure if I want to jump on that social media bandwagon, I’ve heard about those weird people on those platforms” you tried move on from the topic but your best friend keeps wanting to convince you. “You can always private your account. You can choose who can chat and like your post. Just look at mine, I only have my friends and family.” Pulling out her phone, she shows her followers. You see your friends and other recognized faces. It’s not a bad idea, but that doesn’t fully convince you. “I’ll think about it girl. If I do make an account, can you write down your username?” Unasaka quickly pulled a pen and paper from her book bag. She quickly wrote it down and handed it to you. You guys spoke a little more about the presents of social media since you’re a bit new to it. After, you guys head separately to your own homes.

You thought about it after dinner, maybe it’s good to keep up with your friends. You can see that they’re out having fun and you can chat with them. The thought of texting your friends was cool to you. You went up to your room and started downloading the app Captures.

Once you made your account, you put your phone down, waiting for your friend Unasaka to follow you back. You can’t wait to share your little life with the world and chat with all your friends. That’s what you think social media is. Posting and chatting but you were unaware the dark side of it. It was already eight-thirty pm, you had to go to bed soon. You do your little night routine, thinking of all the things you can do now that you have a phone.

Little did you know, there’s someone waiting on the other side.

So I am still stuck here: 'She'll come to understand. I've seen it.' Because like how Paul? How is Chani possible going to come to understand after everything that happened in Dune part 2?

Like she is so angry at the end of the film and it really does make me curious as to how Denis is going to bring her to a place where she understands and is ok with Paul's actions in Dune 3. So I have been having a think about it and I have a few theories on what I think could potentially happen with Chani's character and her relationship with Paul in the third film.

To be clear, I haven't read the books, I know a couple of details from dune messiah that were told to me, but I've mostly managed to avoid spoilers, so this isn't based off clues from the book and is very unlikely to be book accurate, but then I figure Chani not being a believer and choosing to leave at the end wasn't book accurate either so it would make sense that how she comes back to Paul wouldn't be either. Also these theories aren't necessarily things I want to happen more directions I think they could go in. Some have similar ideas and themes but with variations, I think how likely they are to happen is going to depend on just how messed up and tragic they want to go with it.

All of them do have one thing in common though, close proximity. I really do think the only way Chani is ever going to understand is for her to physically be around Paul and see him using his new abilities as the kwisatz haderach and then realising that Paul's motivations are still in the best interests of her and the fremen and that he's trying to lead them down the best path to achieve that. They need to rebuild the love and trust between them through having intimate and emotionally vulnerable moments together as well. So these are more theories on how she'll be brought back into close proximity to him more than anything else. But without further ado lets jump into it.

Chani is Pregnant.

So these first couple of theories centre around the idea that Chani may be pregnant with Paul's baby when she leaves at the end. This is a theory that I've already talked about in this post. As a summary, Chani finds out she is pregnant and not wanting to raise the child alone or for her child to not know their father returns to Paul. Or alternatively Paul finds out she is pregnant and uses it to convince her to come back, its possible Jessica may try and manipulate her into returning as well as she'll see Chani's baby as the future of house atriedes.

But I also had another idea playing into this idea of Chani being pregnant and its a little wacky but could be interesting to play with. For me the interesting part of Paul's line isn't the implication that Chani will return but that she will 'come to understand', suggesting she gets on board with Paul's actions, she fully jumps on the bandwagon so to speak. We know that Paul could dream the future and that these dreams were often vague and full of terror. What if Paul's child can also have these prophetic dreams and through some weird bond between her and the baby that allows Chani to start having these dreams. Seeing all these horrors of possible unclear futures she realises the potential cost of choosing the wrong path and in her fear of these dreams combined with the conflicting feelings of being pregnant with Paul's child, she chooses to return to him now believing that he is at least trying to choose the path that will be best for them all. I also think this could create an interesting parallel between Chani and Jessica in that they both had kind of mystical pregnancies. Obviously it wouldn't be exactly the same because Chani's child wouldn't have awareness more just the link between mother and child in pregnancy allows Chani to take on some of the child's abilities as the offspring of the kwisatz haderach.

So I am going to put a dune messiah book spoiler warning here because I am going to mention something from the books that I learned, so if you don't want to be spoiled skip to the next paragraph. But I just want to be clear to those who read the book that when I say I think Chani might be pregnant I don't mean with the twins who I think will be born but later in the film, I mean with their first son who was born in the first book who is killed in the sietch tabr attack. They took it out of dune part two, which makes sense as they changed the timeline drastically, so I think its possible that they'll instead move this plot line into Dune 3 as an explanation as to why Chani comes back. I think their child will die in some attack or assassination attempt and this will make Chani angry enough to want revenge and their joint grief keeps her at his side.

Chani the Manipulator

So two important details make up this theory, one is that Chani's main resistance to the prophecy is that she believes that the fremen should free themselves and not an outsider, the second important detail is that whilst many will think the emperor is the most powerful person in the universe, the bene gesserit gained a lot of power because they had the emperor's ear. It can be argued that the true most powerful being is the one who can influence the one people think is the most powerful. So here's my theory, what if after some time away and after her anger has simmered down a bit she comes to realise that she could have a lot of power in being the one at Paul's side, the one to have his ear. Maybe being unhappy with some choices he is making in the holy war when it comes to her people she has this epiphany of, I can't change what has happened, I can't change the minds of the fundamentalists who are lost to this prophecy, and I can't stop Jessica's or Gurney's schemes/motivations, but I can manipulate/guide Paul. So she pretends to forgive him and goes back, puts herself close to him and sits in on the councils and when discussing decisions etc she nudges him into the direction she wants him to take, essential becoming the fremen that will help free them by working in the shadows. As I said above any reconciliation I think is going to come down to close proximity and I think as Chani is around Paul as she sees that he really can see different futures she is going to be more understanding and more trusting in Paul when he says he is doing necessary evils to ensure the best outcome for Arrakis and the fremen. I won't lie but I would kind of love this one to happen. Not only would I love seeing Chani embrace her own power and still stay true to her goals of putting her people's freedom first, I think it would be an interesting parallel to Paul in Dune part 2 where at first he works to be accepted by the non believers because he wants to use them as a way to get to the emperor but along the way he comes to genuinely love these people and feel like he's one of them leading to him choosing to abandon his previous path of revenge. I could see this going the same way, Chani at first sets out to manipulate Paul for her own motivations but in being around him begins to understand exactly what happened to him when he drunk the waters and what his motivations are now and decides that actually maybe Paul is what's best for her people and maybe her role/place is to be at his side and help him guide them to that green paradise.

Chani the Spy

These next few theories are going to centre around the idea of Chani either being a part of some kind of resistance against Paul or being the leader of a resistance. I could see Chani not being willing to give up the fight that easily and see her finding others who also still don't believe Paul is the Lisan al Gaib and who aren't happy with their people taking part in a holy war. I could see her using this resistance to become a real political pain in the ass for Paul. Maybe even using his own tactics of disrupting spice production against him, or undermining him in other ways. In a theory similar to the one above I could then see her fake forgiving Paul but to spy on him and feed information to the resistance. But again being in close proximity to him makes her feelings more complicated and she becomes less and less sure about what she is doing and whose side she is really on as time goes by and she realises it isn't as black and white as she first thought, I could see maybe the resistance deciding to plot an assassination attempt and this making Chani more conflicted as I don't think she wants Paul to die.

Let's Beauty and the Beast it.

This one again is based on the idea of Chani being part of/ leading the resistance. Maybe the resistance gets into a fight with Paul's forces and it results in this particular faction of the resistance losing and being taken as prisoners of war. Chani is captured amongst them and Gurney upon recognising her takes her to Paul instead of prison. Then we get a kind of beauty and the beast scenario except this ain't no fairy-tale its much darker. Essentially Chani is Paul's prisoner, but he gives her fancy quarters, real close to his obviously, and he makes a few demands like insisting she must eat her meals with him every day, take walks with him etc. You know forced proximity, she agrees to keep her fellow resistance fighters safe, the promise being they won't be harmed if she complies. Again its her being around him, being reminded of how things used to be between them, maybe she also sees glimpses of the Usul she fell in love with during these meals and walks and ends up falling in love with him all over again. That combined with, as said before, her realisation that he can see the future, him convincing her that he is doing it to prevent the fremen suffering a worse fate etc, keeps her at his side.

Green Green Paradise

So this one isn't particularly well thought out more of a vague idea that past through my head, but it was confirmed in an interview that Liet Kynes from Dune part 1 is Chani's mother. This isn't something that they have actually brought up in the films though, yet. But Dr Liet was a ecologist and was all about terraforming Arrakis and bringing water and greenery, which is very similar to the whole prophecy that the Lisan al Gaib will bring a green paradise.

Whilst Chani may not believe in the prophecy I could understand if she still had a dream of Arrakis becoming a green paradise because of her mother's own dream and her mother's background as a ecologist. Paul tells Liet in part 1 that as emperor he could turn Arrakis into a green paradise with a wave of his hand, well he's emperor now, so maybe he'll begin to deliver own this promise and maybe seeing the way he is changing Arrakis so that it has water and greenery makes Chani go back as she wants to be apart of helping build her mother's dream for Arrakis.

Denial

So another option is Denis could throw us a complete curve ball of a plot twist and actually Chani doesn't come back to Paul. Maybe it was only one, or a few possible futures where Chani came back and Paul was just in denial that it wouldn't happen, he thinks that as he can see multiple futures now he can definitely manipulate the events into ensuring she does come back, only he fails and the Dune 3 we get is one where Chani instead is full on resistance leader, fighting against Paul with all she's got. Maybe she even ends up killing him in the end. I have seen this outcome suggested quite a bit and comments like 'I'd love that for her' which whilst I understand the sentiment, no judgements here, personally I wouldn't love that for her. I think as betrayed as she feels, as angry as she is, it is clear that she still deeply loves Paul and I think sadly she always will, that's the true tragedy of their love story, they're on opposite sides/views but still love each other. I think it was clear from her reactions when she thought Paul was dead after drinking the wol and when he was stabbed during the duel with Feyd that Paul dying is her worst nightmare. I can't imagine how heartbreaking it would be for her to be the one to kill him herself, I think it would destroy her, so its not something I would want for her. But I also can't argue that it is a fairly common troupe, the whole love interests where one goes to the dark side, and it ends with one having to kill the other. I'm personally still traumatised from when Buffy was forced to kill Angel in BTVS and don't know if I could take it again.

I Guess We'll Never Know

This is kind of a theory but also more like my worst fear. So another mild spoiler alert for Dune messiah, but the book actually takes place 12 years after the events of Dune part 2. I did put forward a theory that maybe what they'll do for the third film is spend the beginning part showing what happened right after Dune 2, showing the holy war and what happens with Chani etc and then have the time skip a little later in the film and cover the events from the dune messiah book. But my biggest fear is that they will just stick with the time skip and Chani will just be there and we won't really get any explanation as to why she returned to Paul. Maybe they'll just decide that Paul's one line of 'she'll come to understand' is enough of an explanation. I mean I personally would consider this a huge detriment to Chani's character so I am really hoping this doesn't happen, but I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I'd like to preface this by saying all interpretations/ headcanons/ readings/ etc. Are valid and I'm in no way discouraging anyone to change their ways.

I watched (and enjoyed) Baloney's "The Truth About Kingdom Hearts!" And I absolutely adored their take on the series, but one line stuck out to me that I really want to expand on because I don't see it being talked about as often as it should.

Kairi doesn't like Riku.

And I think this is a very RICH and IMPORTANT aspect of the Destiny Trio dynamic. It adds to the complexity of these characters, but especially Kairi.

(Another shout out to @violethowler and their INCREDIBLE Constructing Kingdoms series. The video on"The Girl Who Never Grew Up" made me like and understand Kairi so much more. Highly recommend checking it out.)

Kairi doesn't like Riku, and with some pretty valid reasons, but I'll get to that after I compile all the evidence towards this:

In KH:

Kairi likes her life the way it is. She doesn't desire change, but Riku wants nothing but change. He wants to grow up and move on and see the outside world.

And because Sora looks up to him, Sora has jumped on the bandwagon too. Kairi is going along because Sora is. But it is clear that for Kairi, change =/= good. So what does she say?

"You know, Riku's changed."

Sora asks her how, and she kinda bites her tongue. Clearly she had opinions, but doesn't want to badmouth Soras best friend to him. Later she says, "Sora, don't ever change."

Later, after everything, when Kairi is restored and in Travers Town, she doubts that Riku can be saved, despite the fact that she LITERALLY saved Sora from being a heartless. She almost seems like she's trying to convince Sora not to go, or to at least let her come with-- not to save Riku but because she wants to be there with Sora.

At the end of the game, she obviously return to destiny islands and draws the paopu.

During Chain of Memories, everyone forgets about Sora, but the memories of Riku stay intact. For a year. Kairi is well aware that her "friend" is missing. In fact, last she knew of him, he was still taken by Ansem and presumably dead or at least suffering. She doesn't know.

She knows she's a Princess of Heart and has powers thay can help (as she restored Sora after being a heartless). But the most we get is "he's far away, but I know we'll see him again." Like, do you?

I mean, SELPHIE is the one that says "I sure miss him." That's way more than we EVER get from Kairi.

So for a YEAR, she doesn't spare Riku a single thought. But the SECOND she remembers Sora, she is willing to do anything to see him again.

Here's a little bit of speculation for WHY she doesn't like Riku:

1) Perhaps when she first met them as kids, he reminder her of Xehenort, who kidnapped her and yeeted her into space.

2) Kairi wanted to be best friends with SORA, but not Riku. She's afraid that Sora will follow Riku to the outside worlds (where she doesn't want to go) and leave her behind. If it wasn't for Riku, Sora wouldn't want to leave at all.

3) He (as far as we know) opened the door and damned their home into Darkness. That's probably a point of contention for her. Even though Sora so forgiving.

4) He hurt Sora in KH1, but Sora is still loyal to him. She probably sees that as him taking advantage of Sora-- the person she cares most about.

5) He's the reason Sora never came home. If it wasn't for him, they would have gone home at the end of KH1 together.

I can't say for sure how Riku feels about Kairi. He DID drag her corpse around and give into the darkness to save her, but that can be interpreted as solely wanting to "beat " Sora at being the hero. Even still, we get moment in COM where he reflects on missing her. We even see Namine come to his rescue in her form. I definitely feel like there is less animosity there, but who knows.

That's all.

Roast me, Kairi stans, but I love the depth this reading gives to the story and the potential for arcs and character growth for her and she is forced to face who she is without Sora.

A/N: Jumping on the bandwagon for Shermie finds out his brothers are alive

Two.

There were two of them.

That wasn't right-Shermie was there when Ma got The Call, he was there for the aftermath and he was there when Ma collapsed in his srms sobbing about how no one showed up except for what looked like an IRS agent.

Lee Lee was gone. Six feet under. Crashed and burned in a horrific car accident.

Then For For became even more of a hermit, only really keeping somewhat in contact once the kids were born.

"Grandpa Shermie?"

"Uh-oh, Mabel go grab a chair, grandpa do I need to call 911?"

Shermie could barely hear his grandchildren past the ringing in his ears. He didn't know if it was grief, anger, disbelief, or a mix of both that rendered him frozen and staring at an old and gray pair of twins that the back of his mibd remembered acting almost as a second set of parents towards him.

Twins that taught him how to read from their comic book collection, his five fingered twin sneaking him sweets late at night, his six fingered twin finding ways to make the toys Shermie longingly stared at in the shop windows they'd pass while out with Ma.

"Hey...Sher-bear? You good?"

"Obviously not, Stanely-I told you we should have eased him into this!"

"Ford, how the heck do you ease someone into the fact that their older bro ain't dead and has been impersonating their other older bro for 30 years?"

A laugh bubbled out of Shermie, high and hysterical.

The arguing was oh so achingly familiar. Shermie had fallen to sleep listening to those two voices squabbling, and to his relief despite the arguing the voices lacked the venom laced barbs that became more common when For For and Lee Lee began to, as young Shermie said, "age backwards."

"This isn't real," Shermie managed to wheeze out. "This isn't real, I-I'm hallucinating or-or I'm dreaming, Lee Lee is dead and I've snapped or something-"

A six fingered hand gently cradled the back of Shermie's head while five fingers pulled him into a familiar feeling hug. "Sher-bear..."

"No!" Shermie yelled, wanting to rip himself out of the hug but the hands held tight and squeezed. His body instantly relaxed.

He shakily reached up and grasped the backs of his brothers shirts.

Solid.

Real.

Not a hallucination.

Shermie sobbed.

"Y-y-you asshole! Jerk! You-why didn't you tell me? No one told me! No one told me anything!"

"We know. We know and we're so, so sorry Shermie," For For's familiar, lower rasp softly hushed and cooed at Shermie while Lee Lee's slightly higher pitch hummed off key.

It was a scene straight out of Shermie's childhood.

He cried even harder.

"Grandpa?"

"Grunkle Stan, Great-Uncle Ford his he gonna be okay?"

"He'll be fine kids," Shermie heard Lee Lee say, For For adding in, "He's procrssing a lot of emotions right now. He'll be fine once they run their course."

Shermie hiccuped. He gave his brother's (alive, both of them were alive, how-when-what-he had so many questions-) one last squeeze before managing to pull back so he could properly look at them.

"Where did you both go?" He asked, feeling his 8 year old self resurface. His brothers exchanged pained glances with one another.

"...Bad brains and bad people," Lee Lee muttered. Shermie raised a brow. "Elaborate?"

"That'll take some time, I'll put on some coffee. Kids come help me."

"Make sure he doesn't burn the water!" Lee Lee called after For For and the grandchildrens retreating forms.

"That was one time!"

"One time too many!" Stan called back, teasingly. Shermie let out a shuddering breath and wiped his face with his sleeves, laughing slightly at the familiar exchange. Stan seemed to brighten up at hearing a genuine laugh from Shermie.

"Hey, there's my smily lil Sher-bear." Shermie rolled his eyes, gesturing to the kitchen. "I have grandkids."

"Still the baby."

"By 8 years!" At the sound of Stan's laugher along with Ford and the kids bustling in the kitchen Shermie felt a weight he didn't know was in his chest lighten up a bit. He still wanted answers and was definitely going to demand them over coffee.

For now, though, he was going to enjoy the fact that he had both of his safe people back.

get in the water is obviously the villain song. final boss appears and tells you his grand plan with a bit too much detail about their traumas and reasoning (as every good villain song/moment does). it's a threat in song mode, it's becoming more and more real and you're biting your nails and then bam!

six hundred strike is (I've said this before) the final final battle of an anime. mc's eyes have gone dark, he's gotten serious and with the power of all the friends he left behind he's uncovered his last resource (the "wife" war cry omg) and is going to beat this guy that almost killed him a second ago. he's scarier than the villain. you're jumping in your room and you're dying with every strike and word that leaves odysseus (my heart rips mode and more)

What speaks for a Le Mans start?

Sebastian Vettel could compete in Le Mans with Porsche as early as 2024. The former Formula 1 world champion impressed in the first test. There are increasing signs of a racing comeback for the German. Porsche has postponed the planned announcement of the driver pairing of the third car for Le Mans.

Sebastian Vettel was abstinent for fifteen months. Apart from a few demonstration laps in a Williams FW14B at Silverstone and a Red Bull RB7 at the Nürburgring, the four-time world champion stayed away from the race track, but the thoroughbred racing driver regularly admitted that he misses racing. Porsche postpones driver announcement

Thinking about the asks a while back regarding accepting ex-antis. Obviously they are just as welcome in fandom as anyone, and they make fine acquaintances spotted in passing.

But, I think antis who decide they're not antis anymore often seem like they decide this about themselves at the drop of a hat? Like, they have one conversation, or two conversations, and they think "Ohh, people are mad at me when I say they should be jailed for fanfic crimes? Okay! I don't believe that anymore! I changed my mind!"

That's a very serious thing about which to change your mind in a hot second. Of course, on the one hand, I'm pleased: I think having stupid pissfights about the evils of shipping, in a reality where I walked to the bookshop and bought The Misfortunes Of Virtue when I was 13 and nobody even noticed let alone cared, is fucking stupid.

But on the other hand, I think this is the crux of my mistrust: I have not yet been convinced to "change my mind" about a sincere, core belief because someone yelled at me and made me feel bad. And it's hasn't been for a lack of yelling.

I feel like this kind of dime-stop turn from antis is really about conforming to stay safe from harassment and censure within a perceived in-group, and not about establishing a reasoned moral framework by which you want to act in the world. And it's fine to be a go along to get along and avoid thinking too much about moral issues and to change your mind whenever people get mad at you. But, you see, whatever new opinion that kind of ex-anti now espouses, if it's not a lie right now, it evidently might be in, like, ten minutes when someone else acts mad at them.

I'm not advocating for being mean to such people, obviously, and I don't even think you can necessarily tell someone who does this apart from someone who actually had a sincere and thought-out change of heart without pretty extensive acquaintance. I just think with a lot of people I see suddenly declare themselves not antis anymore... non-interaction is the way to go for me.

Much depends on how much they ever believed it in the first place.

If they don't have any strong belief other than wanting to hide from harassment, they can be pushed around again.

If, on the other hand, they were super into some dark fiction or something and using this crap to delay their kink awakening, if they can once accept themselves, they aren't going to swing back the other way.

Honestly, I expect most people to be cowards if they see someone bullying the person next to them. I expect people to jump on bandwagons. Antis are a particularly visible and douchey variety of this at the moment, but they're hardly alone.

I don't care about avoiding ex-antis because I think most of the issues with them can crop up with nearly anyone. But yes, there are often traces of One Right Way-ism and other annoying artifacts of their old views.

“What does this image make you think of?”

You fidgeted nervously with your fingers, taking in and examining the image being shown to you by the interviewer. It was the sun, bright and shiny on a cloudless day.

“Er ..” you paused. Did they want your honest answer, or your interview answer? .. you were probably going to give them your honest one.

“Warm. Hah, obviously.” You chuckled nervously. “But also a little overwhelming? I’m more of a night owl, if I’m being honest.” You smiled, hoping that would get you extra brownie points. The job had been labelled as being after hours, so hopefully being a night owl was a checkmark in your column for being hired.

You needed this job. You DESPERATELY needed this job. You were in your mid 20’s, and every other person you knew .. it felt like they already figured out their lives. They knew who they were, what they were doing, where they were headed.. While you felt like you were floating through life, especially once you’d graduated. You didn’t know why you’d gone for an engineering degree, you were never one for structured schooling and .. well, that was about as structured as it got. Besides being a doctor. But you kind of were a doctor! Just for computers.

You imagined a robot in a hospital gown with a thermometer in its exhaust vent and a giggly smile tried to force its way onto your face. You held it down- no. This was a serious job interview.

This was going to be your big break. You were applying to be an engineer for fazbear entertainment, specifically for the massive, all powerful Freddy fazbear’s mega pizzaplex. Getting to put your degree to use by repairing and upkeeping the impressive animatronics housed inside a giant amusement park would be like a dream come true. Not only would you feel like you hadn’t wasted your money and time on your degree, you’d get to see the insanely cool robots, see how they worked up close- maybe even get to peek at the code that allowed for them to be so advanced!

You’d never had a chance to visit the pizzaplex before- it was .. significantly out of your budget, and you couldn’t justify spending an entire paycheck on a single day somewhere. Even if it was a super cool arcade slash indoor amusement park slash laser tag slash.. jeez, you could keep going! You knew, in the back of your mind, how terrible the company was. Of course you did. You weren’t stupid. The rumours that piled up around the company were uncountable, and they grew by the day, to the point where it was hard to tell if people were just making them up to jump on the bandwagon.

They did make you a little nervous. As did the idea of working for such a large monopoly- one that you’d found out during the interviewing process wouldn’t have you interacting with many other coworkers. Out of a lack of need, given their robots, or out of a high turnover rate.. you couldn’t tell.

Long nights, all alone, surrounded only by animatronic robots and the liminal space of a completely empty entertainment centre. No interruptions for small talk. Maybe even getting to enjoy some attractions after hours.. was that scary?

.. nah. That still sounded like a dream.

You were snapped out of your thoughts by the interviewer clearing her throat. “Did you hear me?” She asked.

You blinked, glancing to the image she had on her screen, currently turned to face you. It was the moon, on a clear night, small silvery stars shining around it. You smiled again, your best ‘please god hire me’ smile, and nodded. You hadn’t heard her, but you could take a wild guess as to what she’d asked.

“Calm.” You responded. “Relaxing. Is that the same as calm? Peaceful. Er- kind of just- being a thesaurus here.” You rambled, continuing to smile. You didn’t know what made you always feel like you had to fill silences, but it was hard to escape the urge. “Oh- uh- did you need anything .. more?”

This was weird. This was *really* weird, right? These were the type of questions you’d get asked in a therapists office, not at a job interview. It was fairly invasive, and was this lady even qualified to determine what they meant? Even you didn’t delve that deep into your own psyche. Surely they were allowed to, if they were asking. The Fazbear corporation didn’t seem like the type to leave themselves open to being sued. So it had to be .. at least *somewhat* legal.

You didn’t wait for her to repeat the same question question as she began pulling up the next image. “If I can talk about the sun one again-“ you started nervously, worried now that you’d made the wrong impression. “I think it makes me think of .. friends? Like- the feeling of being with someone. Comfortable- like-“

She cut you off before you got too poetic, showing an image of an alligator next. “What does this make you think of?” She asked, before beginning to type out her notes on your first two responses.

You raised an eyebrow. An alligator? … you had a strong feeling she was asking about your gut instinct, but you couldn’t help but feel like she was trying to see what you’d instinctively feel about the glamrocks. After all, you’d be spending a lot of time with them. You’d get to know them, hopefully, and see how they were able to be so lifelike.

You chewed your lip in thought, deciding to say the first thing that came to mind. “Respect. I mean, they haven’t evolved past what they are right now in.. hundreds of thousands of years- you gotta respect that. They’ve found their niche and they really stuck to it. Almost like crabs. Oh- did you know-“ you cut yourself off with a big smile, biting your tongue. “.. respect. Yes.”

An interview was no time for fun facts, as much as it pained you to not begin your tangent on carcinization.

She nodded, ignoring the sentence you’d left hanging. She pulled up an image of a chicken next. You almost laughed. It felt so silly to be being quizzed on this, about how you felt about the real world counterparts to the very much not realistic robots.

You wondered for a moment why they’d shown you the sun and moon first. Maybe they were testing if you really would be able to handle a night shift.

“Cute.” You began thoughtfully. “And super underrated as pets. They’re really good for your lawn, too. They eat .. bugs.” You smiled sheepishly after almost telling her another fun fact. So much smiling- not that you weren’t already an incredibly smiley person, but your cheeks were starting to hurt.

She typed out her notes, taking a worryingly long time before showing the next image. A wolf. A stock image you were sure you’d seen on the shirt of a very cool grandma you’d seen at a bus stop once.

“Cool. I mean- obviously. That’s .. that’s kinda the standard opinion on wolves, huh? Man’s old best friend. Cool. And respectable. Like- I respect them. As a creature.”

She raised an eyebrow slightly, but otherwise didn’t reveal her opinion on your opinions. More typing, before showing the grizzly bear.

“Pizza.” You said firmly. The interviewer blinked slowly. “.. it .. I mean, I think bear, I think Freddy, I think pizza.” Your smile wobbled, as you could feel your joke falling flat.

“… strong.” You eventually relented to her calm silence. “… there’s a lot of stuff you can relate to bears, uh. Is that good?”

She nodded, apparently much more approving of this answer as she typed it out.

“This is the last image before the final questions we have for you, please let us know what you think about this image.”

You craned your head to see, as she hadn’t turned it quite far enough to be able to see it without the glare from the window masking it. It was a gigantic spider, one of those ones you hear about being in Australia. The reason why kids programming there can’t say spiders are friendly and shouldn’t be squished.

“… uh.” You glanced up at her then back to the screen. “Cool also.” It wasn’t a lie. A spider that big was cool, even if it was equally terrifying and making you itchy just to look at it.

She nodded, turning the monitor back to herself and typing out her last notes for that section. “Thank you.”

You nodded again back to her, beginning to feel like a bit of a bobble head, tapping your fingers on your knees as you leaned back. Whew. That was certainly more interesting than the half hour you’d had to talk about your qualifications.

She continued typing before glancing back to you, speaking as she finished up. “Have you met your soulmate?”

You blinked a few times at the question. Of course. Of course she would ask that. That was all anybody cared about. Even in a job interview. After the psychotherapy questions, you really should’ve been more prepared for this.

“… are you legally allowed to ask that?” You tried to joke, throat suddenly feeling very dry.

“Yes. It’s a standard question, we ask since people your age usually begin experiencing the signals and that can interfere with work. We like to know so we know if we need to expect several days or weeks off in order to find your partner at some point and get acquainted before returning to work.”

You picked at a loose thread on your jeans, smile slowly turning more forced. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about that. I don’t have one. I haven’t had any signals.”

She raised an eyebrow again. “.. none? Even children get-“

“Yep!” You interrupted, embarrassed talking about this to a complete stranger. “I’m colourblind, so.”

She’d been entirely stoic this entire interview, but that suddenly changed as she flushed, feeling embarrassed herself upon realizing how deeply she’d intruded. “Oh- I’m sorry. It’s so rare we- we don’t usually-“

“It’s okay!” You interrupted again, this time to save her from her embarrassment. “It is pretty rare! I’m alright, I’ve had a long time to come to terms with it. It just means you guys will get one hundred percent of my attention.” You nodded, smiling wide. “Even if I did have a soulmate, they’d have to come to me. But I don’t! I’m pretty sure I don’t. I’ve never felt any tugs, or anything. I know other colourblind people can feel the more uh.. tangible signals. But .. I’ve never felt em! So. No harm no foul!”

She gave you a pleasant, professional smile, eager to finish this awkward conversation. “Alright. Last question- how soon can you start?”

You blinked, before beaming. “I-immediately!” You answered as soon as your mind caught up to the implication. “As soon as you need me! .. does this mean I’m hired?”

You just had to confirm. To make sure. You had a terrible habit of assuming things, and this was something you really had to make sure of.

“Your resume was .. impressive, in terms of your schooling. You’ve done a lot of retail gigs, so I know you can work well with schedules. You answered all the questions satisfactorily, and your responses to the instinct questions were.. well. Interesting.” She paused. “In a good way. So, yes. I’ll need to run it by the head engineer, and a few other higher ups, but between you and me I say.. welcome to the Fazbear family.”

You jumped out of your chair, pumping your fists in pure delight and excitement. “Yes!! Yesyesyesyes!!” You cheered.

It took a few moments for your excitement to die down before you took your seat again, clearing your throat. “I look forward to working with you.” You held out your hand, very professionally.

She took it, shaking it firmly. “I’ll send you an email by the end of tonight to let you know if we’ll move forward. Come to the pizzaplex tomorrow at 10 pm, and I’ll make sure someone gives you a tour.”

You were beside yourself with delight, nodding over and over, almost enough to make you dizzy. You could finally start building your life, figuring yourself out- and it all started tomorrow at 10, if your luck held out. You hoped it would.

On the resurfacing of purity culture and right-wing pandering

Disclaimer!! This is a less formal post, as it’s on a topic that has made me pretty mad. It’s also my first post in a long time, since I’ve been busy with school and mental issues. Recently, I’ve been quite active on social media, watching what happens as TikTok goes dark in America. I was curious to see, wondering to myself, “What, if anything, is going to grow in popularity in the final week?” Just as soon as I asked myself that, I got an answer. Wait, so we’re hating on polyamory??

The hatred so shamelessly flung at poly people hasn’t been a new thing, but it certainly flared up in the last moments of American TikTok. It’s all the same insults; being cheaters, being homewreckers, and really just a lack of empathy and understanding.

What is truly disheartening, though, is that many members of the queer community seem perfectly fine jumping on that bandwagon. It seems that those who are “unapologetically queer” and “safe-spaces for those who are different” refuse to see anything other than what they were told to be true, and honestly, the need for purity in their own beliefs.

As I’ve said before, Christian rhetoric has been spread from parents to child, starting at birth. As such ideas are shared, those ideas embed themselves in the minds of young children, and though those children may grow to be queer and atheist or agnostic or something anti-Christian, the values become internalized and integrated into their personality.

What I’m inclined to believe is that a lot of queer people are worried about their safety, and think that clinging to conservative values and morals might save them from the wrath of the right. However, that’s already happening with trans people, and everyone is seeing the results of that, which do not lean in favour of having “the good ones.”

Not only that, but many of those people are absolute hypocrites. You can’t be “unapologetically queer” and shun other queer people because you don’t understand how they can “do something like that.” You can’t call them all cheaters, yet fight against the stereotypes of all gays being “molesters” and all trans people being “socialist groomers.” You’re essentially doing the same thing done to you unto others, claiming all members of the group are doing the same, immoral things.

Obviously, some people are cheaters. Obviously, some people are absolutely awful to be around. But just because there was a gay man who was a serial murderer and rapist does not mean all gay men are serial murderers and rapists. So obviously, some poly people are liars and cheats, but that doesn’t sum up the whole group.

Next, it’s clear your problem is with cheaters, and as cheaters are just liars with extra steps, you hate liars. The thing is, with a healthy relationship, poly relationships don’t include lying. Now, I don’t want to speak for the poly community, but it’s my understanding that what keeps poly relationships going is honesty. While some partners may not date others, they know each other and at happy with each other. To my understanding, those who lie in these relationships are the problem and get removed from such relationships. What makes cheating actually cheating is the aspect of lying.

If you’re saying, “my problem is with claiming to love multiple people,” then boy, have I got a surprise for you. I bet you love people. Your mum, dad, siblings, cousins, aunts, friends, perhaps your dog. You love people, maybe not all romantically, but you love more than one person. Humans have always had the capacity to love, and loving more than one person romantically isn’t really all that different. Even if you still don’t understand, why would you hate someone for having more love to share than you?

Is it jealously? Resentment? Perhaps a bad personal experience? If so, do you also believe that detransitioners should be able to spew hate towards the trans community, just because they harbour jealousy and resentment and had a bad personal experience with it? If yes, then you’re a fucking cunt. If no, then you are upholding some insane double-standards.

Wait wait wait, why am I talking about this when this post is about purity culture? Well, I believe this is yet another stepping stone to building another castle. Literally, we’re reverting to the belief system of the gilded ages.

In recent years, progress to create a more welcoming, accepting world has been crushed backwards. We had moved one step forward, and now we’re fifteen steps back. With Trump being reelected, Canada facing the threat of a conservative majority, and many countries cracking down on trans and gay youth, it’s clear purity culture is back and bigger than ever. Sex is taboo, being gay is taboo, and right now, being poly is a bloody nightmare. I’m not even exaggerating, I haven’t had a sex-ed class in two years.

In simple terms: we’re fucked. Gay people are fucked, trans people are fucked, POCs are fucked, neurodivergents are fucked, the poor are fucked, non-Christians are fucked, everyone is fucking fucked. Should purity culture persist and people lean further right to “keep themselves safe from hatred,” everyone gets fucked right up their gaping asses. So please, gain some consciousness, move away from the right-wing propaganda, and try to be a nice person maybe.

TL;DR: The people hate poly people, but actually they just hate everything that isn’t typically Christian, the world is in shambles, don’t be a fucking twat.

If you read this far, I hope you may have changed your mind about some things, and that this post is actually coherent because it’s 01.30 and I am severely dehydrated and definitely procrastinating studying for my math final. Dune Part Three Theory

(Dune part two and Dune book series spoilers)

I've been thinking about the end of Dune part two and how they had Chani walk away at the end. Paul says that he foresaw that at some point Chani would come back to him and would come around to what he is doing. I said in my review of the movie that I couldn't see how Chani would come back to Paul as they really do seem so broken at the end of the film, but then Paul saying he has seen her return to him gives that glimmer of possibility that she does indeed come back and I have a theory on how that may happen. Now just to be clear I have not read the books so this theory is based off the movies and the other adaptions of Dune (the 1984 film and the 2000 miniseries) that recently watched.

Personally I feel like it would have to be something fairly major in order to convince her to come back to him and after watching some other adaptions of Dune I got this theory, its a cliche one but I could see it working if written properly.

So spoiler warning for the 2000 Dune miniseries here, and also the books as I think its where the plot comes from, but in the miniseries Chani and Paul have a son called Leto who is tragically killed in the attack of Sietch Tabr. Obviously this wasn't in the 2024 Dune part two adaption. But it did make me think, what if Chani is pregnant with Leto and that's what makes her come back?

Here's my reasoning for why she may be pregnant and just not know it yet. The first is the blue scarf. I saw some posts talking about how in the movie it represents her love for Paul, which is really beautiful and I love how they use the scarf in the movie to show her shifting feelings about Paul and what he is doing. But I also found out that in the books Fremen women would wear a blue scarf when they had newborn sons, making it also a symbol of motherhood. So maybe this blue scarf wasn't just a way of symbolising the love Chani had for Paul but also a little hint that she would become the mother of his son and that she is secretly pregnant.

Another reason, or hint, for her possibly being pregnant is that there is a moment in Dune part two where we see a shot of Alia in the womb and then it cuts to Paul and Chani's love scene. I could be reading in to it too much, but I also couldn't help but think maybe that was some symbolism, we are shown a baby in a womb and then Paul and Chani being intimate, maybe hinting that this was the moment their son was conceived. This is also the moment when Chani asks if he will always be with her. He replies as long as he breathes but sadly we know this isn't true because come the end of the film they are separated. But this line could again be to show that they will be together again and with it positioned as it is, with the clip of a in-utero baby and their intimacy, maybe that's a hint that what brings them back together is their child.

I could see a situation where Paul finds out Chani is pregnant and then tries to use that to convince her to come back to him. Whether he finds out through one of his dreams or because they run into each other some how and he can see she is pregnant, it would be understandable that he would want to be in his child's life and so he would try to talk her around. I could also see Jessica trying to manipulate Chani into returning if she is pregnant as Jessica would see the baby as an heir to the House Atreides.

But the interesting part of Paul's line in the movie about Chani coming back is that he says 'she'll come to understand' which makes it sound like at some point Chani is going to fully jump on the bandwagon with Paul and what he's doing. But again I keep wondering how they are going to write that considering how against his actions she is right now. But after watching the miniseries and seeing the plot with baby Leto I wonder if that'll be the trigger. So here's what I am thinking.

Chani is pregnant and she reluctantly returns to Paul, feeling a bit conflicted but wanting her child to know their father. Maybe the baby also makes Paul re-evaluate things and it seems like he is turning back to the right path and this makes Chani feel like maybe he isn't as lost as she first thought. Kind of like a bit of a fake out where you think oh maybe he's been saved from going down this dark path and he'll actually going to turn things around.

Then tragedy strikes and in some kind of attack, whether that's an assassination attempt that mirrors the attack on the Atreides in Dune part one, or an attack similar to the one on Sietch Tabr, their son is killed. In the miniseries its the death of their son that seems to push Paul into overthrowing the emperor, there is a moment when a messenger calls him crazy for threatening the spice fields and challenging the emperor and Paul screams at him that they killed his son, indicating that he was angry and grieving enough that he would have done pretty much anything to get revenge. In the miniseries though the plot line isn't that fleshed out, their son is barely in it and there are a couple of scenes showing their grief but the whole plot point kind of gets lost in the rest of the narrative. But one thing Villeneuve has done really well so far is taking characters and plot points that aren't overly present in the book/other adaptions and giving them a lot more depth and complexity that gets an emotional response out of the audience. I feel like this plot point of them losing their child, if written well, could be a really gut-wrenching and heartbreaking plot that has a big impact on the story and characters. I could see how losing their child could push both Paul and Chani down a path of no return. Chani's grief could be what makes her 'come to understand' that this holy war and waging battle against the houses is the 'only path' forward. It would make the war personal for her and I feel like it is something that is a big enough emotional event that it would cause her to change her way of thinking. I could also see this being the final straw for Paul and what causes him to go full dark side in his rage and grief. It would be a horrifying and tragic story to watch but I do think it would fit in with darker tone of Villeneuve's adaption.

I could also be completely and totally wrong about all of this, but it popped into my head so I figured I would share it, annoyingly it'll be a few years before we get any answers. I am curious, though, to hear other people's theories on how they think Villeneuve will have Chani return to Paul like he foresaw, or whether she will return at all.
