A Little OC Ask List of Difficult to Describe Emotions.

Some emotions are difficult to explain clearly. Perhaps your OC has experienced one of these? Can they remember a specific example? If they haven't then can they imagine what it might be like to experience?

Sonder: The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it.

Opia: The ambiguous intensity of looking someone in the eye, which can feel simultaneously invasive and vulnerable.

Kenopsia: The eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that's usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet.

Monachopsis: The subtle but persistent feeling of being out of place.

Jouska: A hypothetical conversation you compulsively play out in your head.

Altschmerz: Weariness with the same old issues that you've always had - the same flaws and weaknesses that you've been gnawing on continuously for years.

Greng Jai: A feeling of unwillingess to accept help from someone, out of concern for the trouble it might cause them.

Liberosis: The desire to care less about things than one does.

Dolce Far Niente: A feeling of pleasure from doing absolutely nothing.

Mauerbauertraurigkeit: The inexplicable urge to push other people away, even close friends, lovers or those that you trust.

Enouement: The bittersweetness of having arrived in what was once the future, seeing how things turned out, but being unable to tell (or warn) your past self.

Kuebiko: A state of exhaustion inspired by exposure to acts of senseless violence.

Exulansis: The urge to give up trying to talk about an experience, because other people are unable to relate to it.

Adronitis: Frustration with how long it takes to get to know another person.

Attriage: The state of having lost all control over how you feel about someone.

Wildred: The feeling of haunting solitude in extremely remote places.

Mudita: A feeling of joy at another person's good fortune.

Aulasy: The sadness that there’s no way to convey a powerful memory to people who weren’t there at the time.

Ioia: The wish that you could see statistics overlaid on every person you encounter, perhaps to check the strength of their compatibility, measure their trustworthiness, or even just know for certain how they’re really feeling.

Yeorie: A certain scent that has the power to sweep you back into memories of childhood.

Thrapt: Being awed at the impact someone has had on your life, feeling intimidated by how profoundly they helped shape your identity.

Dolonia: A state of unease prompted by people who seem to like you too much, which makes you wonder if they must have you confused with someone else — and feeling vaguely disappointed that they’re unwilling to spend the time it takes getting to know the real you.

Antiophobia: A fear experienced while leaving a loved one, wondering if this will turn out to be the last time you’ll ever see them, and whatever good-bye you tossed their way might have to serve as your final farewell.

Harmonoia: An itchy sense of dread when life feels just a hint too peaceful.

Dolorifuge: Something which brings about a feeling which banishes or mitigates grief.

Compunctious: Feeling remorse or regret, but wishing to avoid actually apologising.

Callosity: A lack of feeling or capacity for emotion.

Mimeomia: The frustration of knowing how easily you fit into a stereotype, even if you never intended to do so.

Pronoia: A strange, creeping feeling that everyone’s out to help you...

Awumbuk: A feeling of emptiness or heaviness after someone else departs.

It’s fitting that you asked about that one because it’s partly inspired by something you said! ♥️

I’ve mused before about the logistical miracle that was the muster in Harrowdale, providing shelter, food, weapons, sanitation, etc. for a whole makeshift army on VERY short notice. Dúnhere was lord of that valley, but I don’t think he could have pulled it off because he was in the fighting at the Isen right before the muster was ordered. So I attribute all the success to his wife, Lithcynd.

She appeared briefly in my Guthláf-Wídfara fic, and she is hyper-competent and briskly efficient - the kind of lady who just Gets Shit Done. You called her and Dúnhere a great power couple in a comment, and that got me started thinking on a story about the two of them, centered around the time of the muster but explaining her backstory, how she came to be the force of nature that she is, how she ended up with Dúnhere and how she ultimately rules Harrowdale after his (canonical) death.

I don’t have any real text yet; it’s more just outline and bullet points. But one of those to share is that Dúnhere is absolutely 😍 about the fact that she’s so capable and effective. When he describes her to other people, he says that the sun doesn’t set in Harrowdale until Lithcynd releases it from service each evening. And he is VERY into that.

Although well used to ghostly company by this time, Scrooge feared the silent shape so much that his legs trembled beneath him, and he found that he could hardly stand when he prepared to follow it. The Spirit paused a moment, as observing his condition, and giving him time to recover.

But Scrooge was all the worse for this. It thrilled him with a vague uncertain horror, to know that behind the dusky shroud, there were ghostly eyes intently fixed upon him, while he, though he stretched his own to the utmost, could see nothing but a spectral hand and one great heap of black.

her mask is in the shape of a person who doesn’t give a fuck abt anything but themselves. because she does, loathe as she is to admit it. she’s in a tough spot— letting a lot of things slide at umbrella (domestic terrorism) in exchange for a monumental cushion (more money than she knows what to do with, job security, etc). she’s made herself out to be very blasé in the face of everything happening, all but straight up telling herself and everyone around her that she’s selfish enough to look the other way. you know who sees past this? luis. and she hates that shit. (not really. she’s a liar, among other things.)

FAILURE: what’s your oc’s greatest failure? have they been able to move past it? does anyone else know about it?

well. honestly— her greatest failure is letting wesker and the birkins (unknowingly. in her defense—) pretty much buy her cooperation forever. she’s technically umbrella property now cs if she leaves, it’s a death sentence. which might be preferable!

she pretends to be a cold blooded hardass in the face of the cartel but really she’s extremely emotionally intelligent as a silent observer of the world around her. she made a mistake letting herself feel empathy for nacho, and then letting him figure it out.

FAILURE: what’s your oc’s greatest failure? have they been able to move past it? does anyone else know about it?

she feels personally responsible— as a person with Genre Awareness— for nacho not making it out alive. she saw that coming from a mile away but really there was nothing that could have been done for him the second he involved himself with cartel business. he was really doomed from the jump and they both knew it— and no. she will never be able to move past it. she can run to the other side of the hemisphere from albuquerque but she’ll never escape the dread that came with.

i haven’t thought up specific ages cause i. never really have specific ages for my characters unless it’s relevant for something but they’re in their 20s!!

AND and they met via the fact that both their respective apartment’s balconies were facing each other on opposite sides of the street so they kinda just end up being aware of each other’s existence over time.

i haven’t thought up many specifics yet but that’s the whole like. premise i’m going off of. like i’m thinking nick moved in after elijah had been there a good while already and started to take notice of this guy with the balcony across the street who played loud music and elijah would notice the guy who showed up and covered the balcony in plants and would stand out there and paint and they probably just inevitably ended up talking and interacting a bit. which lead to them running into each other when they were out and about and interacting more gradually

What's an obscure interest that you have that maybe not many people know of or have heard of? >w>

Tenkai Knights, a beloved from younger days, right up there with Beyblade and Pokemon. It's got pretty low rating apparently? which is sad from what i remember of it, it's hilarious, and the concept was pretty unique and fun too. It's both a magical and a mecha; the boys transformed into the mechas, plus a short transformation sequence! And when they were mechas, they could combine into things like bigger mechas and planes. There were/are 2 main/major points of disappointment though, and they're (sadly) easy fixes too, so I wonder how they got overlooked when the writers were going at it (i still get a little worked up when i think about them too often, UGH). Also the show turns 10 this year!!!! Happy birthday to my favorite magical boys <3
