My moss wall project so far. A mess of crochet ferns and a pile of pom poms. Also need to harvest the pom poms from my old moss rugs. Which will be a sizeable mound of pom poms when I get that done.

Birbhouse :)
The library was having a bird house building workshop so of course I had to attend. I had a couple ideas of what to paint going in, but there were only about a dozen paint colors and none of them were right for them. This robin’s egg blue really made brain go brrrr so I went with that.
Stencils were the thing™ for the workshop, so I opted to use one instead of free handing. The tree was the only one that felt right. It still felt like it was missing something, but the orange paint spoke to me and pulled it together once I added the oranges/flowers/lil splotches. Too much gene kicked in and painted the underside of the roof with it for contrast, but I liked how it turned out and got compliments on that specifically :)
Earlier I had painted the roof green because I already had that color there, but I just finished the final Anne of Green Gables book this week so while not intentional I think my brain will always connect the two.
I wasn’t sure where I would hang it, but later that night I was letting my dog out and realized this pole was the perfect* spot. It’s away from the street, which I was worried about since the street is very busy here and I don’t think the birds would like it on the other side of the yard.
Best of all though, I’ll see it (from its good side!!) from my backdoor. The only downside is that there’s a tiny hole in the back from a knot in the wood that fell out, and I enjoyed the idea of them having a lil window.
The people running the workshop also confirmed that the shape is good for birds in the area. Someone asked about putting a little stick thing on the front, which I had also thought about. It turns out the sticks attract predators. The more you know!
*ok it's not actually perfect for the birds, as they recommended hanging it high up at the roofline. I don't have a drill tho and I'm not hammering nails I'll never get out into a house I don't own, so pole it is.

Fresh off the needles: socks! (ft. Lulu)
26 Jan. 2024 - 31 Jan. 2024
Ravelry project page
Yarn: Schoeller+Stahl Fortissima Coloria Socka Color sock yarn in the colorway 9096 Blau Wei.
Needles: 2.75mm bamboo DPNs
Pattern: Improvised
What I binged: like 80% of the Technology Connections.
I normally wouldn't buy this yarn, as I'm team natural fibers. I thrift all of my yarn, and last year they had a ton of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk (on half off day!!)....mixed with other yarns and divided amongst several bags 🙄 They included two sock "kits" (two skeins of yarn each + a printed out pattern).
This week I found one of the kits in my stash. I'd recently used DPNs for the first time to knit some sweater cuffs and found that I liked them for that, so I decided to give them a go with this sock yarn since my only DPNs were the same size called for in the pattern.
Long ago I had the goal of never buying socks again, but I really struggled with knitting them on circulars and gave up. I started many, many socks but had only finished one pair, which ended up being huge.
The "pattern" was basically just a generic 60 stitch cuff-down recipe, but I prefer knitting socks toe-up, so opted to just improvise a toe-up pattern. I bumped the stitch count up to 65 stitches as I have large feet. I do wish I'd stuck with 60, as they are a little loose on me.
The yarn is self-striping and I decided that I wanted them to match, so it was interesting having to think about that. It was challenging getting the striping to work out well on the heel, but I appreciated that it made it easy to ensure they'd be the same length. I did, however, underestimate how much yarn I'd need for the bind off of the first sock and ended up binding off about 1/4 of the stitches with the white yarn. I'm trying to convince myself that it's charming so I don't have to redo it.
I spent a lot of time thinking about how they might have looked had I decided to go in a different direction with the striping, I kinda wish I had several more skeins so I could try a few variations. I do think I could squeeze some ankle socks out of the remaining yarn (a little over 40g out of 100), but I do still have the other sock kit somewhere, so I may want to combine the extra yarn from both kits.

In India’s Thar Desert, nomads rely so much on camels for survival that the animals are revered. Livestock owners take great pride in their camels, carving intricate patterns in their fur.

I’ve named him and order custom magnets to decorate him with. I’ve started naming my other appliances as well, they have of the same theme and I’ve ordered stickers for them too.
People think I’m obsessed with this but I’m okay with it. I am obsessed with it, and um, I think this is an obsession that doesn’t hurt anyone
If car guys can be parasocial about their cars I think I, someone who is boycotting car ownership, should be allowed to be a little parasocial about my appliances
I’ve been wanting to get a countertop dishwasher for like a year, and I realized recently that I am adult with adult money and finally ordered one and it was a great decision 10/10 would recommend
#I do feel bad about buying magnets bc they’re bad for the environment tho#unfortunately I couldn’t find used ones for what I’m going for#I think he’s worth it tho#there will be a name and dishwasher reveal once the items arrive

It’s not even just about having clean dishes (I AM allergic to washing dishes tho and drying racks are nasty) it literally makes brain go brrrrr to use it. It is way more stimulating for my brain to organize the dishes in it.
I’ve always liked reorganizing the kitchen/bathroom cabinets but it’s kinda ridiculous to do that regularly, so I think it really scratches that itch. I think it’s also making me more motivated to eat, partly because now there’s actually clean dishes to eat off of and party because the more dishes I use the more I can use the dishwasher.
I’ve been wanting to get a countertop dishwasher for like a year, and I realized recently that I am adult with adult money and finally ordered one and it was a great decision 10/10 would recommend
