It's BOOK TIME again! It has been forever since I last bound a book wow.

This is Interim by @punishandenslavesuckers, which is a fantastic botw post-canon Link/Zelda/Ganon fic that you all should go read if you haven't already. It's great, go check it out. I stayed up way too late reading it.

The binding is a sewn-board binding, which means the cover stiffeners are sewn directly into the text block, instead of wrapped around and glued to the endpapers. This makes for a very tidy and modern looking binding, AND because the boards are doubled (sewn in like the endpapers) allows for fun shenanigans like that indented triforce.

I'm SO proud of how the triforce came out! I was really careful with all of my measurements and it really paid off.

Oh yeah and I finally found a place with a good guillotine, so now I can make SMALLER books and still have nice crisp edges. Look at it, it's such a cute size. Perfect for holding.

I have a revelation!

(This is a rant about certain Envy shippers and certain writing choices. No worries, it’s not a ship-bashing post!)

I think the one of the real reasons why I don’t like Envy as much as I wish to, is because people bend over backwards to mischaracterize/demonize characters in order for the relationship to even work. Not even working with the canon or trying to make an interesting story.

They mischaracterize V as a heartbroken, jealous sad girl who is sad that her property—I mean, former lover is in love with someone else. Just like any other shitty Olivia Rodrigo song.

Or they make N so hung up on his crush on V to the point where he’s flanderized to the sky and beyond.

It just puts a bad taste in my mouth.

I remember seeing this one comic where made N upset, and N is getting reminded of all the horrible things he’s been told, so V comforts him. Okay, standard, what’s the problem? The problem is that the characters that are shown is Cyn (makes sense) and UZI (what)! Why Uzi? That doesn’t make fucking sense! If it was J, then that would be accurate, but Uzi? Really?

I’m not done. There was an Envy Heather edit. Completely missed the point. No other words. Unlike the last example, it didn’t piss me off, just “did we even watch the same show?”

Same with Thuzi, and even Vuzi or Juzi in some cases. FUCKING CODEGOLD! And I think Nuzi and NUziV too, but to a lesser extent from what I seen.

I feel bad because I don’t want to hate the ship. I do see its merits and why people like it. I even follow creators or works that ship Envy or have it as the main focus. But by god, certain people make that so difficult sometimes.

This isn’t a problem specific to this ship or this fandom, IT’S EVERYWHERE AND IT DRIVES ME NUTS!

Like why strip the characters from their nuance and chemistry they already have in canon, just to turn them into bland archetype, or to demonize “the other woman”?

hello!! ohoho a tough question for sure ! i have like... books that I hyperfixated on for months and read upwards of like 10 times in said months... these being the watchermaker series by natasha pulley lmaoo and also the murderbot diaries. ive been on a fantasy and sci fi kind of year so I also love ted chiang's short stories! also ken liu's short stories which make me yell into the void

So here's a random assortment! -> -> -> college student!Peter is a long suffering intern of the Avengers (comedy, mcu) + peter just trying to graduate (mcu) + yummy psychological horror of peter w/ venom symbiote + spideypool exploration of spidery behavior + spideypool where peter fights for his fucking life to keep his identity hidden but ppl think spidey's harry osborn + poetic spideypool (love the writing style) + combo of mcu and comics where peter is trying his best to graduate, grieve, and more (series) + spideytorch chronicles peter trying to prove he can settle down for a kid on the way + just spideypool silliness

That was harder than I thought, but should be a good range, bonus crossovers tho, peter and felicia suffering as STEM students in Gotham + peter being spidery in gotham + post NWH gone wrong! peter suffers and Orochimaru barges into his life

MHA I will just admit straight up Izuku is my favorite character, so they're all gonna be focused on him! Also man this was a trip down memory lane, haha! -> -> -> incredible comedy horror about an exorcist Izuku + psychological drama about izuku's inability to die + fav au of quirkless izuku in HSC + all of izuku's bitter feelings manifest when a quirk changes his personality + epic ongoing story of izuku being half demon, WC: 500k + izuku can see spirits, is incapable of helping people, and suffers + comedy about izuku making friends with villains instead of going to UA + izuku time travels and concerns literally everyone around him (comedy) + HC's plan to study Izuku fails because this mf is haunted + izuku is blind + katsuki is haunted by a dead(?) izuku + literally one of the best DFO fics to me (comedy) + OFA users memories get muddled with Izuku's + quirkless journalist izuku discovers the truth

This quickly made me realize how much I adored Bnha. But that should be enough for ye!

If we're talking any fandom kind of favorites, hard to say?? Kinda like when I get asked a fav movie, a lot disappears from my mind, but here's some random ones: -> -> -> jeremiah keeps appearing in bruce's dreams nightmares and it's getting harder not to listen (gotham tv show) + will graham is catnip to every serial killer on the planet for 200k + literally anything by this author + time travel fic of the century (haikyuu) + khaji da discovers the beauty of consciousness and identity

King in Yellow Reading List

This is just the basic origins of the core King in Yellow lore as far as i could find, and i’m sure i missed some things. The main thing i couldnt find is a single origin point for the idea of the kiy as an aspect/avatar of the more powerful god hastur, or even just those two as alternate names of one entity. The closest i found for that was actually the Call of Cthulhu ttrpg, which may very well be the source tbh. In terms of Classic Cosmic Horror i could find copies of online though, i think this covers it.

The King in Yellow Robert W. Chambers Collection of short stories, the first four of which feature the apocryphal ‘King in Yellow’ play, and are introduced with excerpts from it.

An Inhabitant of Carcosa Ambrose Bierce Short story, origin of the city of Carcosa and Lake Hali, both used by Chambers in the King in Yellow play.

Haita the Shepherd Ambrose Bierce Short story, origin of the name ‘Hastur’ here used as a god but borrowed by Chambers as a city name.

The Whisperer in Darkness HPL Novellette, more explicitly links Hastur with the yellow sign, and thus the King in Yellow. Also brings the KIY/Hastur into the cthulhu mythos in general.

The Return of Hastur August Derleth Short story, reintroduced ‘Hastur’ as a god rather than a city.

More Light James Blish Short Story, Reconstruction of the King in Yellow play inside a narrative framing device.

Apart from the stories listed here, The Hastur Cycle edited by Robert M Price is a great collection that includes most of these as well as context and introductions for each story so thats a great resource, i just couldnt find a link that wasnt a pdf download.

Additionally, its not made explicit and its just one small scene so i didnt include it in the main list but I think the King in Yellow appears in the Dreamquest of Unknown Kadath, and in terms of lore for Malevolent fans the dreamlands are definitely relevent and a lot of what happens in that book in general is paralleled in season 2 which is fun.

A bit of a shorter fic, I really enjoyed reading it! In contrast to most of the fics I recommend, this one actually focuses on only characters from the base game!

The concept behind it is very interesting, & something I don't think I've seen done before! The relationships between the characters are well written, even for the characters we don't actually see!

Spoilers ahead!

Undyne & Sans being friends is something that I haven't seen a lot of, but I love the dynamic between the two in this fic!

The fight scene between the two seems very well written, & I can definitely imagine it in my mind!

So yeah I was gone for a bit on a Caribbean cruise - 10/10, would recommend, just not on Norwegian Cruise Lines - and I spent good chunks of it vibing on Never Shall We Die thoughts.

Which gives me another excuse to rec that fic because it is everything: pirate AU, triplets not knowing they're triplets, Felix being a spymaster, Agustin being amazing, monsters, mysteries, flash forwards, An Important Map, and the sort of fantastic hijinks one can always expect and enjoy from an archive_rat fic. Get in there if you haven't yet, it's so good.
