Read on AO3 Warnings: none Words: 2.7k Summary:
Techno raised an eyebrow. “The library is closed. Time to go, kid.”
The boy furiously rubbed his eyes before sluggishly packing up his books. Techno had the strange desire to pat his head. Instead, he walked back through the shelves to the front counter to finish.
“Um.” The kid’s tentative voice broke the spell of silence. He fidgeted when Techno’s eyes landed on him. “Is it okay if I check out one last book before I go?”
or
Techno works at the college library and finds a boy asleep at the back when it's closing. He become more attached than he'd anticipated.
Technoblade stared at the blond boy sleeping in the back of the college library.
Should he wake the kid? Normally he wouldn’t hesitate, after all, the library was closing for the day and obviously no one could stay the night.
Techno frowned. He didn’t want to wake him. But then what was he to do? With a sigh, he reached over to jostle the kid’s shoulder.
Nothing.
Then the kid slowly lifted his head, which had been tucked into his arms on the desk. “Wh- huh?”
“Yeah, sure, kid.” Techno wasn’t sure why he said yes. The library was closed. But he figured it would only take an extra thirty seconds, and the kid seemed like he needed it. It wasn’t like the boy was being rude, he was just tired.
The blond-haired boy brought forward a book. Embossed across the cover was A History of Veterinary Science.
It made sense. The kid seemed like an animal lover somehow.
Techno scanned the book under the boy’s account, the beep the only sound in the library. Tommy, read the name on the account. Techno slid the book over and the kid- Tommy- looked up at him gratefully.
“Thanks, big man,” he said through a yawn, with half closed eyes.
Techno nodded and Tommy shuffled his way out of the library. He looked back once, and Techno caught his blue eyes. Tommy blinked and hurried away.
⋆༺𓆩⚔𓆪༻⋆
Techno placed the last of the returns from the morning back onto the shelves.
A lot of the students were on lunch break, and the library had that low hum of soft conversations. Sunlight flowed into the high-ceilinged room from the windows on the far side where he’d found the sleeping boy last night.
As Techno returned to the counter, he heard the doors push open. He looked up from the computer to see- Tommy?
The boy looked incredibly more energized than the night before, grinning brightly. “Ayy, big man!”
“Hello,” Techno said gruffly, wary of his energy but also interested.
“Do you just hang out in the library all day or something?” Tommy asked.
“I work here. Different shifts, yesterday was the closing one.”
“Don’t you go to this school? Do you not have classes?” He emphasized the word with a distaste. “What major are you anyway?”
“English.”
“Nerd,” Tommy snickered. “No wonder you work at the library. Books and shit.” He shook his head.
“Coming from the kid that asked me to sign him out another book after the library was closed and he was asleep for who knows how long,” Techno responded. A frown flitted over Tommy’s features, as if he was worried Techno was angry, but then it was gone.
“Respect the grind, library man!”
“Don’t call me library man.”
“What should I call you then? What’s your name?”
“Technoblade. My friends call me Techno, though.” Techno both disliked how energetic the kid was and envied it.
“My name’s Tommy,” the boy told him.
“I know,” Techno replied easily. Tommy raised an eyebrow and Techno nodded at the computer. “Signed you out a book, saw your account, didn’t I?”
“Do you remember all the names of the people who sign out books?” Tommy tried to hide his sheepishness.
“Only if I find them drooling all over their notes after the library’s closed.”
“Wha- hey! I was not drooling.”
“Do you remember all the things that happen while you’re asleep?” Techno shot his own words back at him. “And don’t you have something to do here?”
The kid rolled his eyes. “Yeah, off to study!” He stared at Techno with wide, unblinking eyes while he hoisted his bag over his shoulder and backed into the shelves.
Techno half sighed half laughed, shaking his head and going back to typing on the clicky keyboard. Around an hour later, Tommy walked out the door with a furious wave.
⋆༺𓆩⚔𓆪༻⋆
The day after that, Tommy made another appearance, teased Techno, and settled down to study. And the day after that, and the one after that as well. It became a little routine, and Techno found himself looking forward to the bright laughter and break from books and shit, as Tommy had said.
“Hey, mate, made a friend?” Phil, his boss and the library director, spoke from behind him as Techno shelved returns. He startled internally.
“No hello?” Techno asked sarcastically.
“I’m glad, you two seem to have fun. The kid looks bright. It can be nice to have a study buddy.” Phil gave him an awkward fatherly wink before leaving Techno to continue shelving books.
When the library was nearly empty and Niki was around to help, Techno studied with Tommy. The first time, he pulled up a chair to the desk at the back and opened his laptop.
Tommy glanced over at him with surprise.
Techno shrugged. “I got an essay to write.” He thought he heard a soft “nerd” as Tommy went back to his work.
The next day, Tommy showed up in the morning, popping out of nowhere while Techno was shelving returns in the empty library. He always seemed to be shelving returns when people wanted to talk to him.
Somehow Tommy always managed to catch Techno’s shift; it was unusually early today.
“Ayy, Techno, my friend!” he greeted. As usual, Techno had to take a mental step back at the kid’s energy, eyeing him through his pink hair, which was loose for once. Nonetheless, he found himself enjoying his time with Tommy.
“Don’t you have classes soon?”
“Shut up, I thought I’d drop by to help you with your books and shit,” Tommy replied aggressively. “How do I know where these go?” He picked up a book.
Techno leaned over his shoulder. “Look at these numbers, see? Main number for main classes, decimals for more specific categorization. Just match them to the numbers on the shelves. This pile here though,” he patted the books, “is all to go on the shelf in the aisle over there. I sorted them beforehand.”
“Okay!” Tommy nodded enthusiastically and grabbed the pile. He disappeared to where Techno had shown, and there were a few shuffling noises. Techno smiled to himself and shook his head fondly in the privacy of the aisle.
Tommy helped shelve the rest of the returns. Once Techno taught him the system, he figured it out easily. Phil was right, the kid was bright.
Tommy picked up another book and broke into raucous laughter and wheezing. “Look! Look at his face!” He thrust the book in Techno’s face.
Techno had to snicker at the overly-serious man’s face displayed on the cover.
“He looks so fucking pretentious!” Tommy said through laughter. “Suppose you’d understand, being an English major and all- hey!” he shrieked when Techno took the book and hit him gently over the head with it.
“Shh, you’re in a library, Tommy, children must be quiet-”
“I am not a child! And there’s no one here!”
⋆༺𓆩⚔𓆪༻⋆
Techno had just finished checking out a group’s stack of books on the slow computer, watching the clock tick towards the end of his shift.
Tommy hadn’t shown up.
He’d come by every single shift Techno had had ever since Techno discovered him asleep that night, even the unusually timed ones.
He tried not to think about it, to busy himself with answering questions and putting things on hold and checking on overdue books- but worry began to creep in more every minute closer to ending. His eyes darted to the door expectantly more and more frequently as the time passed.
What if Tommy was hurt? What if he was sick?
He could handle himself, Techno was sure. Logically. Nothing had happened, maybe Tommy was just busy, or forgot or something.
Techno felt a hand on his shoulder.
“You alright, mate?” Phil asked. “Shift ended a couple of minutes ago, and you got a lecture to run to.”
“Yeah, I better go.” Techno started to leave. “Uh- will you keep an eye out for Tommy?”
“Of course,” Phil said. “I’ll let you know if he comes by.”
“Thanks.” Techno swallowed. He hadn’t realized how much he’d come to care for the kid until he was gone.
The next day, Techno anxiously returned for his shift. There’d been a quick change by Phil, but he hoped Tommy would appear magically at his shift as usual. He’d decided if Tommy didn’t show up today, he would ask for his dorm to check on him.
He settled down in the chair behind the desk. The computer sat in front of him, still on from when Niki had left it only a minute prior. Niki was calming as well, more like a sister than the parental way Phil was. She had a fire in her, something Techno could relate to, though she wasn’t outwardly intimidating like he tended to be.
His shift passed smoothly, except for the low thrum of worry in Techno’s body. Tommy didn’t appear. The only mildly interesting thing that had happened was some guy wandering in, staring in confusion at the books, then loudly scoffing in offense and running out the door, slapping the top of the frame as he went.
Oh, and some kid asked him if he had any books on nukes. Nuclear engineers.
No Tommy.
Techno picked himself up, hearing Phil’s footsteps coming from the little office behind the desk.
“Didn’t show today either?” Phil asked.
“Nope. Think I’ll ask the front office if they know his dorm or something.”
“Good luck, mate, I’ll keep an eye out,” Phil told him. “My guess is that he got a cold. He’ll be fine.”
“Thanks, Phil.”
Techno grabbed his bag and pushed through the doors of the library. The foyer the entrance was in was nearly empty. He turned the corner into the corridor and nearly bumped into someone. On instinct, his hands shot out to steady the smaller frame.
Tommy looked up at him.
Relief washed over Techno; Tommy was unhurt and safe-looking, energetic as always.
“Techno! You’re done?” he asked in surprise.
“Yup, shift just ended. Where’ve you been?” Techno asked, trying to keep the concern out of his voice. He wasn’t concerned, when had he been concerned?
“I overslept yesterday, and then there was a shift change at the café, and then-”
“Whoa, whoa- slow down, it’s alright,” Techno said.
“Worried about me?” Tommy asked with a grin, his slightly worried air disappearing.
“Oh hush, child, who knows what trouble you could get into,” Techno quipped.
Tommy squawked. “I’m very responsible, I’ll have you know! Actually, I have something for you,” he added. Techno noticed that Tommy’s hand was behind his back.
Tommy pulled it out with a flourish, presenting a chocolate chip muffin. “Ta-da! From Puffy’s café, I just grabbed it at the end of my shift!” he said happily.
“Thanks,” Techno muttered, a little taken aback at Tommy’s outward sweetness. Who knew gremlin children had a kind streak.
He took it from Tommy’s hand, who was still smiling cheerfully, and took a bit.
Amazing.
“Is it good?” Tommy asked. Then he shook his head. “Of course it’s good. It’s one of BadBoyHalo’s, makes the best muffins, honestly they’re a staple at Puffy’s, I hope you like it-”
“It’s great, thank you Tommy,” Techno responded after chewing and swallowing, giving him a pat on the head.
“I was gonna study with you, but I missed your shift…” Tommy mumbled.
Techno frowned. “We can still study together, c’mon,” he said, leading Tommy down the hallway.
When they reached Techno’s dorm all the way in residence, Tommy gasped as the door was pushed open.
He eyed the bookshelves and bedspread and messy desk as Techno spread out his papers. “Is that The Art of War? You really are a nerd.”
⋆༺𓆩⚔𓆪༻⋆
Techno was utterly immersed in Wikipedia, every hyperlink bringing him deeper. Ancient civilizations were a little too interesting. And this library computer was horribly slow.
The sun was setting, visible through the large windows at the back of the library. Techno always loved those windows, nearly floor to ceiling. They let the library be illuminated entirely by natural light on most days. He could stare at the clouds or the sun or the stars while in a room full of knowledge. He understood why Tommy liked the desks back there.
“Whatcha up to?” he heard Tommy’s voice ask. He looked up to see the boy leaning over the desk.
“Library stuff,” Techno replied wisely. “Don’t you have studyin’ to do?”
“Yeah, yeah, remind me about fucking schoolwork,” Tommy said with distaste, wrinkling his nose. He gave a dramatic sigh, placing a hand over his heart. “I suppose I must. Have fun working.”
Tommy backed into the shelves, never breaking eye contact with Techno. Then he was gone.
Techno snorted. The kid definitely made things less bland.
“I’m so glad I started giving him the schedules,” Phil said a while later, stepping out of the office.
“Oh,” Techno said simply. “That makes sense.”
“What can I say, the kid was dedicated enough to ask for them and come to nearly every single one of your shifts.”
“I should probably tell him we don’t have to hang out where he knows I can’t get away from him,” Techno muttered. “Though it’s nice to have the helping hand.”
Phil smiled and lifted his hand to ruffle Techno’s hair. Then he thought better of it, seeing the perfect neat plait it was in.
“Don’t push it,” Techno grunted. They both knew it was fond.
When the stars were visible and the library empty, Techno locked the office door and shut down the computer. He enjoyed the closing shift; the night sky was beautiful through the windows, the library had a soft warm glow from the lights, and there was pretty much no one he ever had to tell to leave, except for the occasional harried students trying to finish an assignment due that night.
Or who’d fallen asleep, Techno thought.
He’d walked through the library to check for anyone left, and spotted a familiar figure at a familiar corner at the back.
Tommy had his head in his arms, on his notes and textbooks, his laptop also long asleep.
Technoblade stared at the blond boy sleeping in the back of the college library.
Tommy’s chest rose and fell slowly, his eyelashes fluttering slightly.
Should he wake him? No, he couldn’t bring himself to pull him out of his resting, peaceful state.
Techno quietly pulled Tommy’s notes out from under him, closing his books and putting them in his bag, which he hoisted onto his shoulders.
Then he carefully lifted the sleeping boy, holding him close to his chest.
Tommy exhaled a puff of air, and Techno froze.
He was still asleep.
As smoothly as possible, Techno made his way to his dorm. It was far, but Tommy was easy to carry. It was mostly their bags that caused him some trouble.
Finally, Techno dropped the bags outside his door, unlocked it, and kicked it open. He slid the bags in with his foot and closed it behind him.
Techno pulled back the covers on his neatly made bed, delicately depositing Tommy on his mattress.
Techno tucked him in.
He studied his work for a moment, pride and protectiveness washing over him. Then he sat himself at his desk to study, an ear out of his headphones to listen to Tommy’s slow breaths.
Tommy was so energetic and loud that Techno had nearly forgotten his sleep-induced vulnerability and peace. He’d seen it once before, but he had a new appreciation for it now that he knew Tommy. He had seen Tommy’s sleepy state before his active one, and he was glad he got to experience both.
Tommy could get the rest he needed. He could lay here for years or for hours, and Techno would always make sure he was safe.

After season 2 I'm Dying for a fix it fic! Does anyone have a one shot or finished fix it fic yet?
We now have #good omens s2 and #fix-it tags which I am sure are going to get full up in no time. Here are more fix-it fics for you...
symptoms of demonpox (otherwise known as heartbreak) by jilliancares (G)
Maybe that was Aziraphale’s first action as the new archangel in charge: I hereby declare that demons can now contract demonpox. Symptoms include wet and burning eyes, shortness of breath, an uncomfortable tightness in the chest, and an all-encompassing sense of impending doom. That would certainly explain it. Or: Crowley wonders if he'll ever be happy again. (He will.) (They're both idiots.) Immediately following the events of Season 2, Episode 6.
The Nature of Sorry by Verayne (T)
"Oh, Crowley." The angel takes a step further into the bookshop, words tumbling out in an unpractised rush. "I didn't even make it halfway up the lift before I realised what a terrible mistake I was making." Crowley can feel Aziraphale's eyes on him. If he looks they'll be big and shiny and pleading, exquisitely beseeching in his regret. So he doesn't look. He's heard the words before, near enough. Seen the expression before, too. Fool him once, and all that.
The Trinity by spacemutineer (T)
After leaving Earth (and Crowley) behind, Aziraphale finds Heaven cold but Jesus Christ remarkably warm and kind. Jesus needs a miracle to help humanity, but he needs Crowley and Aziraphale together again to do it.
Where The Furniture Used To Be by Magpie_BKK (T)
The Bentley has mysteriously brought Crowley back to central London, just as an old friend turns up at the bookshop. But not everything is as it appears, and Crowley finds himself on the run with an amnesiac angel, trying to unlock his memories along the way.
From Eden by blondecoffeecup (T)
“Besides,” Aziraphale added, his voice softening considerably, “I’ll take care of you.” Crowley grimaced, averting his gaze as if in shame. “It’s rotten work.” “Not to me,” Aziraphale breathed out, his heart twisting in his chest until he could barely find the room to breathe. He moved Crowley towards him to press their foreheads together, holding him close, pressing the gentlest of kisses to the bridge of the demon’s nose. “Not if it’s you.” Aziraphale returns to London after realizing the corruption in Heaven cannot be fixed, and seeks out Crowley in an attempt at reconciliation. Crowley doesn't believe him, thinking he's only there to trick him and then leave again, and Aziraphale finds himself expressing his apology in a less-than-conventional way - and really, how does a demon say no to his angel when said angel is on his knees, pleading for forgiveness in the way that a sinner would do to their God? (ft. Nina yelling at Aziraphale, a shit ton of Biblical symbolism, and, of course, the obligatory Hozier lyric title)
Something smells …….. evil by Angelica_Tree (G)
Left behind on Earth, Crowley dives straight for the nearest bottle, but a week later he finds himself sobering up. Something was very wrong the last time he saw Aziraphale. The angel hadn’t acted like he usually would, and the flashes of love he usually sent Crowley’s way were gone as well. Crowley needs allies to get to the bottom of it, and one of the allies is found in the unlikeliest place.

This post got me thinking about plagiarism as applicable to fandom works, and how like many other things that used to be topics of common discussion and common understanding in fandom, no longer are. Got me thinking that perhaps a touchstone on the topic would not go amiss.
Obligatory disclaimers: I am not an IP lawyer, nor a BNF, nor any kind of authority on matters; I am only familiar with copyright and IP conventions in the United States; and I am speaking from the perspective of "I was present for the discussions that hashed this out in excruciating detail in the _journal days, and this was my takeaway from those discussions."
WHAT PLAGIARISM IS:
1) The direct copying of actual text, that is to say the exact same words in the exact same order, from a source text, republished in an independent context without permission or acknowledgement that the text is copied, without acknowledging the original author, or by claiming to be the original author. 2) A dick move. 3) Grounds for specific retaliatory actions in specific communities, i.e., an academic setting or an archive, which may choose to reject a plagiarized work or expel a member of the community found to have done it.
WHAT PLAGIARISM IS NOT:
1) Illegal, in the sense of being punishable by legal action. 2) Using some of the same words, in sort of similar order to the original text. 3) Using the same title as a different text. 4) Using the same story setup as a different text. 5) Using the same characters, settings, plot elements, or narrative arcs as another text. 6) Translating a text into another language. 7) Reading, saving a copy of a work to your hard drive for re-reading, printing a copy for hardcopy reading, etc. 8) Copying out sections of a text in a comment, or as an excerpt to accompany a work in a promotional post. 9) Using a work as reference material. 10) The only kind of dick move there is.
Thousands of hours of round and round debate boil down to this: You cannot own an idea, but you can own the actual words that you write, and you own those words by default, without needing to take any specific actions to that end. (Proving that you own the words is something that you might, under some circumstances, need to take action to do, but really only if someone else tries to stick their oar in to claim ownership for some reason, which is one of the reasons why plagiarism is A Dick Move: forcing people to defend ownership when they shouldn't have to is inconveniencing and unpleasant.)
Even then, there's a fair amount of wiggle room on the topic of Actual Text which falls under fair use. For instance, if you reference a line or several lines of canon dialogue from a book because you are retelling the scene from a different perspective, that is generally considered fair use, but copying the actual text of the entire scene would not be. By the same token if you had a line referencing canon dialogue in your fic, and another person references the same line of dialogue in their own fic, the other person is not plagiarizing you. And if two people in completely separate fandoms reference the same Hozier lyric as a title for their separate fics, that is not plagiarism either.
I also said that plagiarism is not illegal, because strictly speaking it's not. It's an extremely rude thing to do, but it doesn't become illegal in the sense of being punishable by legal action until a lot of other factors start coming into play, most of them having to do with money. At which point the objectionable action is usually not described as "plagiarism" but as "copyright infringement" or other more legally granular terms. (You'll note that I said up above that you cannot own an idea; whether you can own a specific implementation of a character or a setting is another matter, and where IP law starts getting really into the weeds. But this post is only about plagiarism, not copyright infringement.)
Generally speaking, you can't get the law on your side unless you can pose a reasonable argument that the other person's actions have harmed you in some way, including some financial way. This last distinction is the primary reason why fandom creativity has stuck out as long as it has despite our society's (historically speaking) very restrictive IP laws; IP holders are not losing money to sales if fanfic authors are not selling, and they are not losing reputation or recognition if the fanwork is not seeing wide reach.
WHAT ABOUT AI?
That said, there's an awful lot of breadth between what is considered outright illegal and what is considered a really rude thing to do which may start seeing social penalties accrued. Which is why scraping someone else's Actual Text and doing something like feeding it into an AI bot without their consent is an incredibly rude and unpleasant thing to do, even if it does not fall under the definition of Literal Plagiarism, and if a person does this a lot and word gets out about it, that person may find themselves very unwelcome in the community.

six song soundtrack tag game!
and we go AGAIN!
Thank you @sleketon666 :3
My boy Mortimer Craig is up next.
No pressure tags: @kimberbohwrites @savriea @orangekittyenergy
Rules: If you're tagged, make a new post with links to music and/or lyrics describing the following:
An event that defines your character's past: Blessed Be by Spiritbox
Tumblr media
This song I feel perfectly captures his survival through the Bhaal cult, specifically after Lucille is born.
2. How your character sees themselves: Hungover in the City of Dust by Autoheart
Tumblr media
There is just something about the bridge of this song that captures Mortimer's anguish.
Feeling moody, dark and heavy There's no feeling in my left arm Resonance is far away Try to complicate my thinking Am I falling? Am I sinking? Powder in my fingernails And the belt wrapped around My shrinking waist is having trouble Tryin' to keep the damn things up Want to write a single letter Maybe then I'll feel much better Until then we'll float
3. How others view them: Oh No! by MARINA
Tumblr media
I think others can see through his self-destruction fairly quickly, and BOY does this song capture it.
4. Their closest relationship (platonic or romantic): Like Real People Do by Hozier
Tumblr media
So I ship Mortimer hardcore with @faerunsbest's Sybyll, and I have so many songs in my head for them, but ultimately decided on this one. Also FYI Mortimer is very much Hozier coded/a shit ton of his songs are in Mort's playlist.
5. A major fight scene: Hayloft II by Mother Mother
Tumblr media
In the AU @faerunsbest and I have been tinkering around with, Mortimer annihilated Sybyll's abusive parents and his own abusive father in a very fucked up display of magic. It's an obligatory song.
6. End credits song: Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Ray
Tumblr media
I honestly do not see many endings for Mortimer resolving themselves positively; he is far too willing to damn himself for his loved ones if it means securing their protection/making sure they're safe. I think this song really captures the bittersweet realization of his end.

pravo and lyra <33
Pavo - Where do you get inspiration from?
honestly just? anywhere and everywhere? inspiration ambushes me more than anything. like i was working on my apocalypse au playlist and it suggested a song called "beekeeper" and i didn't add it but the title made me think "a beekeeper in an apocalypse would be neat". so now there's a beekeeper! the short story i'm currently drafting, which has a bat obsessed girl (<3) was inspired by me reading one time about someone who did their postgrad thesis on bat studies. it's usually small details that inspire me and they all come together for something bigger. i'm also a big visual learner so i get a lot of inspo from things like pinterest boards or scrolling unsplash
Lyra - Give us a few songs that fit your project!
speaking of the apocalypse au playlist <3
(when i make wip playlists its more the sound/music itself rather than lyrical significance)
morcheeba - blood like lemonade. this song has featured in so many wip playlists of mine but i love it. it's everything to me
hozier - swan upon leda
marika hackman - ophelia
sleeping at last - saturn. obligatory classic.
enzalla - closure. okay this is an instrumental piece i stumbled on in 2017 when i was writing my first ever apocalypse story and it has just stuck? in every apocalypse story i've conceptualised since? i don't know enzalla but this is everything to me thank you enzalla
constellations ask game!

six songs tag game GO
@transificationbeem is responsible this time
If you're tagged, make a new post with links to music and/or lyrics describing the following:
[Atlas Sylvestrus from my HP fic The Sky Upon Shoulders]
1. An event that defines your character's past
Birthday Suit by Cosmo Sheldrake. Weighed down by morning/ In my birthday suit/ Lift up the evening/ Just for a while/ Backwards, upside down, and inside out. I think I'm funny. Boy really did start off in that outfit. Super fitting for him.
2. How your character sees themselves
Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears for Fears. Help me make the/ Most of freedom and of pleasure/ Nothing ever lasts forever/ Everybody wants to rule the world Gets into spoiler territory for my fic, but there's a lot of stuff about duty. It really fits how he sees himself later down the line!
3. How others view them
Southern Nights by Glen Campbell. Feel so good/ Feel so good, it's frightening/ Wish I could/ Stop this world from fighting. From Severus' eyes in particular. The whole song is very much how he sees Atlas and how he feels when he sees him. I wanted to originally choose a song that's more romantic on first view, but I think it is very romantic to Sev.
4. Their closest relationship (platonic or romantic)
Atlas by The Dip. That you got to see it's killin' me the/ way you carryin' on, so/ Don't put the world on your shoulders/ 'Cause you know it ain't your load to bear. Obligatory Atlas song. Right now this is Atlas towards Sev, but over the course of the story it is the constant anthem of them going back and forth with their senses of obligation and duty.
5. A major fight scene
In The Woods Somewhere by Hozier. No big fight scenes have happened yet, and the ones that will occur are more emotional than violent. There's not one lyric that really describes a certain fight, but it has the vibes of the aftermath.
6. End credits song
Ends of the Earth by Lord Huron. There's a world that was meant for our eyes to see/ To the ends of the Earth, would you follow me?/ If you won't I will say my goodbyes to thee. Is it a cop-out to use the end song from Community? It's got such a final feel to it, which works since I don't really have a finale in mind for this fic.
I am completely normal about him!!

thoughts on my ttpd first listen
Fortnight (feat. Post Malone): I've been saying her relationship with alcohol was not healthy bruuuh. I love how she takes her life, which the vast majority of her listeners would not be able to relate to, and makes an "understandable" metaphor out of it. But it must break her to do so. Love Post Malone's voice here, he really compliments her well. THE MV THO with the dead poets <3<3<3<3<3
TTPD: girl go get your lover tf 😭😭😭 whole era dedicated to this muse, incredible.
My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys: getting mad MATHP vibes from the storytelling here.
Down Bad: now I'm starting to really get dragged in the album. The first verse rewired something in me, Idk. also if I speak about the muse... The New Romantics mention, I died dead. Also someone needs to edit kenstewy to the "hostile takeover" bit.
So Long, London: my favourite so far, I am in love with this vibe. It's giving YLM. Also I love the style of the intro, it's channeling the waves in a way, up until this point the album has a very distinct "look" and I can see it so clearly. My real question atp is how are we supposed to just, go on as normal after this album. She is baring her soul in a way she's never done before and it's not a happy soul, so how is just going to go on keeping her happy persona at Eras and how are we going to let her. I think the management is probably gonna make the last songs be happier ones to get back a bit of the persona. Like atp I'm not convinced the 5 stages of grief was her idea and I don't think this mental state is related to a specific breakup or a specific event, this is a cluster of stuff she's been carrying.
But Daddy I Love Him: "growin' up precocious sometimes means not growin' up at all" holy fuck, mood. My heart aches for her, this anger and resentment must have been burning holes through her and people are still probably not gonna see her as she wants to be seen even after this. She couldn't make this pain any clearer and tomorrow she is still gonna have to play pretend.
Fresh Out The Slammer: still breaking these chains!! If anyone at all is listening, there is a Taylor before this album and a Taylor after. Full stop, no going back.
Florida!!!: I LOVE THIS COLLAB I NEED A FULL ALBUM.
Guilty as Sin?: looove the beats on this one.
Who's Afraid Of Little Old Me: "don't you worry folks we took out all her teeth" and the circus life, I am broken. This album is supposed to be her breaking her chains and the general reaction is "what ex caused this". I wouldn't be surprised if she committed mass murder.
I Can Fix Him (No, Really I Can): this song is giving cowboy - Lana Del Rey - old americana vibe and I'm into it. It's a new thing for Taylor but it suits her well, especially with her country past.
loml: feeling the "All Things End" by Hozier vibes. Now that I think about it the whole album is kinda Hozier-y, like very heavy on lyricism, dark storytelling and kinda giving whiskey/soil/heavy clouds. I am obsessed.
I Can Do It With A Broken Heart: girl go to therapy I am begging you.
The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived: THE SOUND!! THE WORDS!! THE TRUST ISSUES!! I love this song.
The Alchemy: psych ward mention in the obligatory football song, I see you, Miss Swift, trying to see who's actually listening. Well, I am.
Clara Bow: Nothing New bridge meets The Lucky One. I don't think anyone wants to be part of the industry after listening to this album, Tay, but we appreciate the sentiment.
The Black Dog: okay MsKingBean89. Also the location, she is hilarious.
imgonnagetyouback: bpdlor shining through, love you queen.
The Albatross: she hates her fans, and she is right. The Matty thing was heinous.
Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus: beautiful song. I don't have many thoughts about it, it's deeply personal for the people involved (like much of the album), and since I'm not one of them I can just say she evokes images so beautifully with her words. She is extremely skilled and talented.
How Did It End?: the sound really captures the image of someone lost in thought at the grocery store, idk what else to say.
So High School: was she sick while recording this?
I Hate It Here: my anthem. me. myself. I.
thanK you aIMee: cute metaphors
I Look In People's Windows: Ebenezer Scrooge-ass anthem (I am crying does anyone remember my "on the glass wall" post, I'm adding this song). I know it doesn't make sense, but to me it sounds like she hadn't been singing for a while and she is incorporating vocal exercises in her songs, Idk why. (like "oh this exercise sounds fun, should insert it in a song").
The Prophecy: oh boy, oh boy, this one hit hard. Like really hard. "Shades of greige" is the perfect way to describe this album, it's rather monochrome and monothonous like sadness often is.
Cassandra: I love me a good Greek mythology reference. Incredible imagery. Bruno Madrigal's anthem.
Peter: yes. yes. this. Peter Pan imagery + Daisy Buchanan vibes, I died dead.
The Bolter: called me tf out. The leaks in the rowboat, my God...
Robin: not crying, you are.
The Manuscript: that's the ending I was talking about. There is no real happy closure, she had to go back 15 years to find a past that doesn't haunt her anymore, that's disheartening. I guess we'll see how this plays out, but I'm afraid she's not all that better. Hope she can take a break and get better soon.
Overall, I loved this album so much. It's everything I hoped Midnights would be and Midnights is in my top 3, so that's saying something. Considering how wordy it is, I think most songs will grow on me even more, looking forward to that.

Heyy! May I ask if you know a couple of fics where Aziraphale (or Crowley) dies/discorporates and the other just loses it? like, begging for them to come back or something along the lines of that? Thankyou very much for your efforts!
Hello. We have some fics like this on our #temporary character death tag, though those are mostly Aziraphale, so I have focused on fics in which Crowley dies or discoporates for this ask...
A Strongly Worded Note by Woland (NR)
What if the airfield scene went a little differently? What if Satan was angry enough at the traitor to want to punish him right then and there?
Winged and Wounded by IdleLeaves (T)
"I won't-" Aziraphale says, then stops with a huff. "Look," he continues. "I can't save them all - nobody can - but I can save some, and that's more than enough reason to go."
"To go and get yourself discorporated."
Aziraphale goes to France to help with the war effort. It doesn't end as planned.
Save a life I didn't have by orphan_account (T)
5 times Aziraphale thought he might lose Crowley +1 time he did.
Obligatory Hozier lyric title
Luck of the Draw by Bookwormgal (T)
Sometimes concepts are too big, too complicated, and too ineffable to properly describe or understand. Sometimes it is easier to imagine things as metaphors. And metaphorically speaking, reality could be viewed as an obscure and complex version of poker played in a pitch-black room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won’t tell you the rules and who smiles all the time.
Of course, reality can also be viewed as two powerful angels going down to Earth with the goal of wiping the "traitor" out of existence the old-fashioned way. If more precise methods don't work, then simply smite away at the target until there's nothing left.
Black Lines by Eladriel (M)
Two years after the not-apocalypse Crowley gets attacked by an old enemy and left with a wound that will kill him slowly. What will Aziraphale do when he finds out? Will they find a way to safe him?
Too Weak to Fly by Woland (NR)
Crowley said Heaven and Hell would leave them alone for a while. And they did, for nearly ten years. But they are back now, with vengeance....
Mind the tags on these one, folks!

"It's you, it couldn't be awful"
A Playlist For Dair Appreciation Week, Day 7 - Fave Quotes & Lyrics
I haven’t the faintest idea how to make gifs (seriously I think all of you are witches) so I made this playlist, because there is nothing I love more than scrolling through my spotify library and just projecting all over it.
Track listings and links with opinions & lyrics under the cut, because this thing is long, because I have no restraint.
(Note: I intentionally left off all tswift bc if I didn’t, we’d be here all day)
Section 1: The Bops
Little of Your Love - HAIM
A bop that embodies the energy of the 4b arc, and an energy of “Oh for crying out loud, Humphrey”
You’re just another recovering heart / I wasn’t even gonna try / you wouldn’t even give the time
Stop runnin’ your mouth like that / ‘cause you know I’m gonna give it right back
Hate That You Know Me - Bleachers
It’s “You owe me ten / You owe me twenty!” & “I was hoping it would go away / I was humiliated” & basically all of While You Weren’t Sleeping, tbh
Some days I, I wish that I wasn't myself / No luck! / And I hate that you know me so well
I Like Me Better - Lauv
Heavily featured in all y’all’s gifsets—and rightfully so!!! It’s also like the perfect counter to the previous song.
To not know who I am but still know that I'm good long as you're here with me
Sweet Talk - Saint Motel
It’s about Blair roasting Dan for filth and him being completely charmed by it.
when you laugh / I forget that it's about me / But it's alright / Yeah, cause being your punchline / Still is something
No Reason to Run - Cold War Kids
In the perfect version of the show that lives in my head, this is the end credits song that plays as the two of them frolic in Rome.
I have evolved like a fish growing legs / Woke like a lightbulb clicked in my brain
You Make Lovin' Fun - Fleetwood Mac
The song for the couple that fucked in an elevator. Bless the work.
Sweet wonderful you / You make me happy with the things you do
No Matter What You Do - covered by Jakob Dylan and Regina Spektor
The energy is “I have a lot of affection for you but you are so annoying.” And this is the obligatory post-breakup s6 song.
No matter what in the world you do / Hey, I'll always be in love with you
Don't Take the Money - Bleachers
I see so much love for tswift on this website (valid) but I feel like the world as a whole sleeps on her collaborator Jack Antonoff bc he is brilliant and his act Bleachers has some of my favorite songs ever. Like this one. Antonoff has said before that the title phrase is more metaphorical than literal, like an idiom that means don’t take the easy way and give this up, because it’s genuine. Real “I want to have a sleepover with you” vibes.
Somebody broke me once / Love was a currency / A shimmering balance act / I think that I laughed at that
In the Morning - Nina Simone
It’s about the domesticity! And the “Our relationship is our world”! And the “we’re young and still have so much life to live so everything’s gonna be okay.” did i title a smut fic with lyrics from this song maybeso.gif
Please be patient with your life / It's only morning and you're still to live your day
This Must Be the Place - Talking Heads
This is a canon dair song bc @mysteriesofloves titled a fic after this song, them’s the rules. But for real, this is such a good one. The lyrics are intentionally scattered, a little bewildered, like “how did we get here? how did this happen? who found whom?” and finally “who cares? we found a home in each other.”
The less we say about it, the better / We'll make it up as we go along
Cleopatra in Brooklyn - Frank Turner
Chosen for the title obviously, but the lyrics capture the royal/5b arc pretty well, I think. The narrator carries this tongue-and-cheek comparison of the woman he’s singing to to Cleopatra through the whole song, comparing himself to Marc Antony, and ending with this really earnest kind of declaration. I’m obsessed with this songwriter he’s a genius please give him a listen.
These people are adjectives to your proper noun
I'll come find you when your fortunes fail you / I'll die with you when the gods desert you
Morphing into Section 2: Pure Vibes
Walking on a Dream - covered by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
The original is by Empire of the Sun (and omigod I just realized the coincidence), but I first heard it covered by McMahon, and he’s one of my favorite musicians of ever so I just love his rendition. And this song is sort of like...about finally deciding that the reality of love with someone is so much better than the idea of it.
Thought I’d never see / The love you found in me / Now it’s changing all the time
Wake Me - Bleachers
Jack coming for my life yet again. This song is so romantic but also so melancholy? Which is such a Daniel Humphrey Vibe.
And I'd rather be sad with you / Than anywhere away from you
All I Want - Joni Mitchell
I’m a white girl with a mother who grew up in the 60s, so I love Joni. And this song is so bubbly and joyful, but it’s also about a relationship between two imperfect people and wanting it to work anyway. Big “Despicable B” vibes!
All I really want our love to do / Is to bring out the best in me / And in you, too.
Dust to Dust - The Civil Wars
A friend in undergrad got me into the Civil Wars by showing me their live videos, and they have such incredible musical chemistry - like, the synchronicity of their ensemble is so good that it even comes through on their studio recordings and it makes these simple lyrics hit SO HARD.
You're just lonely / You've been lonely too long
NFWMB - Hozier
Ok, this had to be like the first ask I ever sent @bisexualdanhumphrey bc they wrote this fantastic meta post about Hozier and Derena but I said: “consider: NFWMB is a Dair song.” And they said, “You right.” I stand by it, and that’s why this song is on this list.
If I was born as a blackthorn tree / I'd wanna be felled by you / Held by you / Fuel the pyre of your enemies
Friday I'm in Love - covered by Phoebe Bridgers
This song - especially this cover - gives such Secret Friendship Arc vibes a la the end of 4x16...the inherent romance of eating pizza and falling asleep on the couch together
Always take a big bite / It’s such a gorgeous sight / To see you eat in the middle of the night
A Case of You - Joni Mitchell
Queen Joni again. Like! I am a lonely painter / I live in a box of paints. & The “You’re the star of Dan’s book” of it all in these lyrics!
I remember that time you told me / You said “Love is touching souls” / Surely you touched mine / ‘cause part of you pours out of me / In these lines from time to time.
Longing to Belong - Eddie Vedder
This is my thinly veiled attempt to tell more people about this: a song written and performed by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder on ukulele, that is actually the softest love song in the history of western music.
All my time is spent here / Longing to belong to you
Bones - Josh Record
Okay, so, that Moment on the Couch at the end of 5x02? That’s this song.
And darling, when your feet are cold / Wait up, I'm coming home / And all of you I will hold / My love will clothe your bones
Cinnamon Girl - Lana Del Rey
The song for when you reach the end of plausible deniability - One all consuming paralyzing thought & You need to go back to Brooklyn - and it scares the heck out of you.
There's things I wanna say to you, but I'll just let you live / Like if you hold me without hurting me / You'll be the first who ever did
You and Me - You + Me
You can be flawed enough but perfect for a person
Section 3: Songs for Dancing in the Kitchen with Your Lover at 1 am
Cigarettes and Coffee - Otis Redding
The “Dan and I have a real connection song.” It’s about the romance of commonplace things when they’re with the right person.
But it seemed so natural, darling / That you and I are here
I'd Be Waiting - Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats
It’s “I just want to spend the day with you” but in like, slow-dance, sexy harmonies format.
If you ever get lonely if you never did
Never My Love - covered by Jakob Dylan and Norah Jones
The “Words of Affirmation” love song they deserve, and an underrated love song from Laurel Canyon, imho
What makes you think love will end? / When you know that my whole life depends / On you
Dancing in the Dark - covered by Morgan James
Okay so these lyrics are such Dan lyrics to me, it’s charmingly self-aware and self-deprecating. And this cover by Morgan James turns this staple rock song into something ~sexy~
I'm dying for some action / I'm sick of sittin' round here trying to write this book / I need a love reaction / Come on, gimme just one look
Oh Me Oh My (I'm a Fool for You) - Aretha Franklin
They’re literally always making each other laugh! It’s about feeling safe enough to be uninhibited and unselfconscious in your joy.
To make you laugh / I would be a fool for you
I Fall in Love Too Easily - as done by Chet Baker
No one, but no one sounds as sweet or as smooth as Chet. I know it, you know it, Hozier knows it. And this song and it’s titular thesis is so Them, it’s such a central part of their respective characters, and one of the things that makes them compatible.
My heart should be well schooled / 'Cause I've been fooled in the past
For Me Formidable - Charles Aznavour
Due entirely to this fic (Part II of a god tier s4 au) This is the end credits song for their full feature length Nora Ephron romcom.
NSFW Honorable Mention: Dinner & Diatribes - Hozier
it’s the definitive “men get pegged” representation, iykyk

Ok so idk if I’d like Hozier or not so can you give me some of your favorite bops bc me stumbling aimless around his music seems like a recipe for disaster
Well, I'm certainly biased because I love Hozier, but I think he's got a lot to offer. He's got a fair amount of range so, odds are, there's at least one song you'll enjoy.
I think the best place to start is Take Me to Church. Anti-Catholic sentiments, depictions of love/sex as powerfully human acts of defiance, and admiration for powerful women are common themes found in his songs. Also, it’s the big hit so it’s kind of obligatory.
If you like TMTC, you may also like: Moment's Silence (about oral sex and also sexual abuse in the Catholic Church), Foreigner's God (about feeling alienated from Christianity)
Politics pervade a lot of Hozier's work - including all the anti-Catholic songs I've listed - but there are some songs I think I'd specifically highlight as Political Hozier. Nina Cried Power would be the big one, a thank you note to the history of protest music and how we can look to that history as inspiration in these dark times. It features Mavis Staples, an iconic gospel/soul singer who performed at civil rights marches in the '60s.
If you like his political commentary, you may also like: To Be Alone (a dark tune that directly calls out rape culture, and my absolute favorite Hozier song), Be (a love song with apocalyptic and Biblical imagery, as well as lyrics directly referencing refugees, the border wall, and the current U.S. president)
If Anti-Catholic Hozier or Political Hozier aren't your vibe, you might want to look into Music Nerd Hozier. He's a huge fan of blues, jazz, and soul, and some of his most upbeat songs involve name-dropping his favorite singers and tunes. NCP falls into this category to a certain extent, but I'd also recommend Jackie and Wilson. When you said "bop", it was immediately what came to mind. It's a story about a guy who sees a girl in a public place and imagines his whole life with her (including naming their children after famous soul singer Jackie Wilson). At the end of the song, he looks up and realizes he's been so lost in the fantasy that she's left already without him noticing. It's a sweet song, if a little sad near the end.
If you like Jackie and Wilson, you may also like: Someone New (a fun sing-along that name-checks Aretha Franklin in the bridge), Almost (a bop where pretty much every lyric is the name of a jazz standard)
But let's be real, we all know the memes - you're probably here for Forest Prince Hozier. There are killjoys people who listen to his other songs and go "lol he's just a normal dude those jokes are so dumb", but they're ignoring a giant segment of his discography that deals with nature and mythology.
Most of my favorite Hozier songs fall into this category, so I'll recommend two.
Like Real People Do is about someone who's been buried alive, who falls in love with the person who digs them up. There's a little bit of humor to it, and it's ultimately a very sweet love song.
If you like LRPD, you may also like: Work Song ("No grave can hold my body down / I'll crawl home to her"), In A Week (a love song between two decomposing corpses), Shrike (a bittersweet lost-love song comparing the relationship to that of the shrike and its thornbush)
In the Woods Somewhere is a dark story-song about running into the forest. There are very few songs that create an atmosphere the way this song does - it's a masterpiece of immersive storytelling. Listen to it in a thunderstorm for maximum effect.
If you like ITWS, you may also like: Run (a love song between the sea and the land, sung in an otherworldly falsetto), NFWMB ("If I was born as a blackthorn tree / I'd want to be felled by you, held by you / fuel the pyre of your enemies"), Talk (the narrator uses the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice as a seduction technique)
A few other songs that don't quite fit into these categories, but I think are worth mentioning:
From Eden - a happy, chill-sounding tune that's actually from the perspective of the Devil. Incredibly well-written.
Cherry Wine - a devastatingly honest depiction of someone trapped in an abusive relationship. one of his best songs, and his most emotionally affecting. have tissues nearby.
No Plan - an upbeat love song about how how the universe is chaotic and will end someday. The epitome of 'optimistic nihilism'.
Wasteland, Baby - a tender folk song about falling in love at the end of the world.
I know this is a lot, but I hope it gives you some ideas about where to start. I wish you well.
