hear me out on this ok. ROTS AU where Anakin still turns to the dark side but that's Palpatine's problem.
So, Palpatine decides last minute that ehhhh maybe dooku could come in handy later and he doesn't encourage Anakin to kill him, and Dooku gets arrested and imprisoned in the Jedi Temple awaiting trial. (Also he didn't get his hands cut off because of uhh plot reasons?)
Fast forward.
Palpatine is encouraging Anakin towards the Dark side, tells him about Plagueis the Wise, etc. etc. But see, the thing is, Anakin is at the end of his tether, probably hasn't slept more than three hours over the past week, and has no remaining impulse control or inhibitions, and upon hearing that the Dark Side can save people from death, his first thought is, "wait a sec, we've got a Sith Lord in-house at the moment!" and he sprints out of the space opera and books it back to the temple.
Now, Dooku has been calmly waiting in Temple custody, confident that Darth Sidious will arrange his escape. But THEN Anakin barges into the cell like OMG THE CHANCELLOR TOLD ME THE SITH KNOW HOW TO KEEP PEOPLE FROM DYING AND I'M HAVING DREAMS ABOUT SOMEONE DYING AND I NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE THEM
At which point, Dooku realizes Palpatine's plan. He's going to tempt Skywalker to the Dark side and REPLACE DOOKU. this is totally uncool.
So he's like "...who are you dreaming about, exactly?"
Anakin freezes. He can't admit it's Padme because their relationship is top-secret and he can't admit how important she is to him so he tries to think of a good fib and goes "uhhhh OBI-WAN! Obi-Wan, it's Obi-Wan, I'm dreaming about Obi-Wan dying-" and he just throws himself into the drama because now he IS imagining obi-wan dying because Obi-Wan is fighting grievous at the moment and he MIGHT ACTUALLY DIE and that's in addition to Padme dying and he's totally spiraling at this point- "pleasepleaseplease you gotta help me he's like the only father i've ever known I don't know what i'll do without obi-wan I have to save him YOU GOTTA TELL ME WHAT TO DO I'LL DO ANYTHING--"
Dooku begins to smile.
(Would stealing Skywalker out from under his Master's nose be petty? Oh, yeah.)
(But it would also be very, very satisfying.)
---
Obi-Wan calls in to a council meeting to report his defeat of Grievous, but before he can say so, Mace announces that Dooku has escaped and the Sith Master has been killed.
Silence falls between the eleven councilmembers (eleven, not twelve, because their newest one is conspicuously absent. Obi-Wan wonders just what Anakin's up to now. Honestly, that boy will be the death of him.)
Obi-Wan clears his throat.
"...indeed," he says, trying to handle the shocking news with composure. "Well... at least we're down to one Sith, now."
Another awkward pause.
"Yeah, about that--" Mace begins.
#Dooku totes anakin back to the Separatists but Anakin's loyalty has really only ever been to like 3 people so he kinda doesn't care#as long as he doesn't have to fight obi-wan or ahsoka he's cool with it#his favorite part of the job is when he has to 'kidnap' padme and/or their kids for uhhhh Political Reasons#and they get to hang out as a family#obi-wan is always the one sent to 'rescue' padme#the rescues mostly consist of obi-wan rolling his eyes while Anakin and Padme draw out a goodbye longer than a midwesterner#(secretly obi-wan thinks it's kinda funny)#also as Anakin is now a Sith he learns about all the Sithly Plans including the clone chips and he immediately panics#'THIS COULD HURT OBI-WAN OR AHSOKA WE HAVE TO STOP IT'#and offers free healthcare (aka chip removal) to all clones on separatist planets (including active warzones) and somehow it works?#despite being the most drama-queen Jedi out there Anakin somehow becomes the most chill sith ever#like he will absolutely fly off the handle if anyone threatens Obi-Wan or Padme or Ahsoka but he's not into the causing-suffering thing#(which I know isn't how the dark side works really but for the purpose of funnyness yes it is)#he's pretty calm in general though! still wants to help people!#dooku sends him to conquer a republic planet that's fighting the separatists and he gets there and he's like#WELL OF COURSE THEY'RE FIGHTING US! LOOK AT ALL THE PROBLEMS WE'RE CAUSING FOR THEM! THEIR ECONOMY IS IN SHAMBLES!#*to the planetary leaders* don't worry I know someone in the Senate who can help with relief aid. in the meantime let's talk treaties!#when he gets back dooku is like YOU ARE A *SITH* YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO CAUSE *SUFFERING*#and Anakin is like I TIED ALL THEIR SHOELACES TOGETHER WITH THE FORCE WHILE WE WERE IN DIPLOMATIC MEETINGS WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!?#jessica's random thoughts#star wars au

Dawn of Hope
This is going to start in that weird place where we are taking canon and making it simultaneously better AND very much worse.  Also, as always, I may be ignoring or ignorant of some part of canon that contradicts this stuff, forgive me.
While there are many changs we need to address, the biggest is that Anakin does not choose Palpatine, or Fall, during the fight between the Council and Palpatine (Also, because I truly believe that it is the point of no return for Anakin’s fall, he did not kill the Tuskens). This does not actually make anything better.
Anakin’s refusal caused the three way fight to last a bit longer, but also ended with Mace Windu’s death. The Force began to scream that Anakin needed to get back to the temple immediately. Anakin disengages from the fight and escapes.  Palpatine let him go, since this was still in line with several of Palpatine's plans (I fully believe that Palapine had a plan for any eventuality). Palpatine calls for Order 66 and Anakin arrives back at the temple mere moments before the 501st.  Anakin is horrified to see his men firing on, and killing, the Jedi in the temple and ignoring his attempts to order them to stop (it is important to note that in this, there is no indication in the Force or their behavior why the clones have suddenly started shooting Jedi; also Fives report in this one was not intelligible enough-due to being drugged-to give either Anakin or Rex information about the chips).  His help gives the appearance that the temple can start evacuating (they rebuffed wave one) and Anakin is told by one of the temple guards that a group of initiates had been locked in the council chambers for safety, but they need a counselor to unlock the door to evacuate them.
Anakin goes down and unlocks the chamber, and just as the initiates look up at him with hopeful eyes, believing that they have been saved…Anakin is knocked unconscious by the temple guard, who had been one of the guards that betrayed the Jedi. The guard then slaughtered the children (all of them, including Reva as the guard had not been as conflicted) and dragged Anakin away (Palpatine now intended to torture him into Falling) as the other traitor guards disabled the last of the protections for the temple, letting the clones come back in to kill everyone.
Another change was that early in the war Cody took a hit to the head that, unbeknownst to everyone, broke the chip. The extra time it took for Palpatine to call for Order 66 meant that Obi Wan had reached the upper levels and that Cody had joined him there when the chips activated and every clone, except Cody, started trying to kill any Jedi (for apparently no reason).  Cody and Obi Wan are able to escape, but there is a part of Cody that will never forgive himself for the fact that they both had to kill some of his brothers to do so.  They are able to get to Coruscant, where they meet up with Yoda at the ruins of the Jedi temple.  They see the surveillance video (the clones attacking, the temple guards that betrayed them, Anakin being captured, the younglings being slaughtered).
The next step is obviously to rescue Anakin. Now both Yoda and Obi Wan are self aware enough to admit that this would have been the goal for no other reason than that Anakin was part of their lineage. However realistically he is also the only other Jedi they know is still alive, a powerful fighter, and would be a devastating enemy if he could be coerced to fall (they do not know for sure that this is the goal, but there are only a few reasons to take Anakin alive). Knowing that they would need to rely on the Force to move quickly Cody is sent to collect Padme before she can be used against Anakin.
By the time Yoda and Obi Wan find Anakin, he has been tortured but has not fallen. Obi Wan is able to escape with Anakin, though Yoda gives his life for them to do so.   Anakin injuries mean that his remaining flesh arm and his legs have to be amputated. The stress causes the twins to be stillborn and the measures needed to save Padme’s life remove her ability to have any other children.
Obi Wan and Anakin are the last Jedi in the galaxy at this point. Through chance or circumstance everyone else died in the Purge(This includes Ahsoka. With the extra time and without Rex having knowledge of the chips, she is eventually killed by the clones; the fight did enough damage that the ship still crashed into that moon, killing everyone on board-including Maul).  They are only just able to get the mechanics to replace Anakin’s missing limbs, and the four keep on the move to lay low.  By the time both Padme and Anakin have healed from those first few days, 18 months have passed and the galaxy continues to grow darker.
Bail Organa’s fledgling rebellion has been found out (a combination of the lack of a daughter had Bail focusing on the rebellion more, and moving just a hair too fast, and Palpatine not having Vader to deal with-both not spending time focused on his recovery and not needing an enemy to point Vader at one he has healed). Bail and Breha have been executed as warmongers and traitors with a Palpatine approved puppet installed as the new ruler of Alderaan. Any friends that any of the four might have had were swept up in the aftermath of the failed Rebellion.
At the two year mark Palpatine, who no longer has any use for the Clones, as he had recruited a natborn army in the meantime, issues another Order, this time for the last remnants of the GAR to kill themselves.
Cody is the last Clone of the GAR in the galaxy, and none of four of them know about the chip.
These four have no friends, no help, and no hope. And they survive in this galaxy where they can rely only on each other for another 8 years.
In that time neither Anakin nor Obi Wan fall. This is not due to some extra attachment to the light, but the fact that there is nothing the dark can offer them. How do you resurrect an entire culture? Who would they even try to bring back? Because they do not know about the chips, they do not have one person, even Palpatine, that they can blame or get revenge on.
Also during these 8 years the four form a Force bond, tying their life forces together.  Though the bond is deliberate, and of the Light Side, none of them are quite sure if it is ‘If one dies, we all die’ or ‘we all have to die for one to die’. Frankly, in the galaxy they live in, they figure there is not much difference.  This bond does have the effect of slowing all of their aging to the slowest (Anakin, with his Force connection ages at one third the normal human rate once he reached maturity)
10 years after Order 66 and the Purge, our four feral survivors find an artifact that will take them to a new timeline.  It has not been used often, because there is no control over where or when they will be dropped, there is no way back, and most people do not want to chance that they will end up somewhere worse. Our four are not worried about worse, they know that they have the worst timeline, and they have no one to try and come back to. So they activate the artifact.
It drops them into the canon timeline, during A New Hope, on the Death Star,  just before Darth Vader strikes Obi Wan Kenobi. This derails Old Ben’s attempt at martyrdom. Darth Vader is immediately distracted by Padme Amidala, looking older than he remembered but younger than she should be (had she lived).
As they all recognized an older version of Obi Wan, and guessing that the tall being in black is the bad guy, the four dimension travelers grab Old Ben, the teeny boppers (Luke, Leia, and Han look unbelievably young to them) with the Wookie and the familiar droids (as none of them look like they belong on the Death Star) and hustled them onto to only ship that does not look imperial (A Corellian Freighter) and escape while Vader is staring at the spot where Padme Amidala had appeared.
The only reason that they were not immediately shot out of the sky is that Vader realized that Padme was on that ship and made sure no one shot the Millenium Falcon.
The Millenium Falcon, and everyone she holds, escapes. They take some time to make sure that they are not being followed before Han, with input from Leia, sets a course to the nearest Rebel Base. There is enough confusion that he does not even ask about payment.
Then everyone turns to the four dimension travelers.  Obi Wan, the younger, looks at Old Ben and goes ‘Hello There’ in a tone that is distressingly flirty for a solid half the ship. Anakin rolls his eyes, whacks Obi Wan (the younger) upside the head, and goes ‘set up a threesome between yourself, you husband (Cody), and yourself later’.
Old Ben looks far too considering for Luke and Leia’s piece of mind.
It is Padme who introduces the four dimension travelers, with a brief overview that they were from a different timeline.  Upon Padme introducing Anakin, Luke perks up and goes ‘Oh, you’re my father’
Anakin practically squeals with excitement that he (Luke) must be one of the babies (Padme also got visibly excited and interested in the answer), and asks if he is Luke or Leia.  Luke somewhat blankly answers with his name. A moment passes then Luke goes ‘BABIES???’ At the same time Leia goes ‘LUKE OR LEIA???’
At some point in the midst of this chaos Luke manages to tell Anakin that the Anakin was killed by Darth Vader (and clarifies that Darth Vader was the tall fucker in black).
Both Anakin and Obi Wan feel the wince in the force coming from Old Ben at that statement. Old Ben, for his part, fully expected to be dead before having to have this conversation on ‘from a certain point of view’ with his niece and nephew. He also did not expect to be having this conversation with another version of himself with three people he had loved and lost to decades earlier.
Old Ben manages to get out a single ‘from a certain point of view’ before Anakin goes ‘Oh, other me is Vader. I Fell’
Old Ben agrees (which increased the Chaos quite a bit and it takes some time for those revelations to sink in). It is at this point here a minor, but somewhat critical misunderstanding occurs. Once Anakin found out that this universe’s version fell, he muttered that it must have been the torture. Anakin has made an assumption that this Anakin was also captured by the Guard and was tortured until he Fell. Old Ben hears this and assumes that his Anakin was tortured to fall at some point before he killed the younglings (in this one Old Ben never found out why his Anakin fell).  Neither are speaking directly enough about what had happened to catch onto the mistake (both had had time to come to terms with what happened, it still is deeply traumatic and neither really wants to talk about it), though it will be resolved quickly and without real drama.
Padme asks about her own fate, given that it is clear that neither of her children recognize either of their parents by sight. Old Ben says she died in childbirth. Padme, very used to Obi Wan’s ‘from a certain point of view’, drily asked how much Anakin’s fall contributed to her death.  Old Ben winced and admitted to the choking and throwing.
Old Ben also admits that he has not seen Cody since Utapau.  No one on the ship is aware of the chips, so no one knows to disagree when Cody goes ‘so I went insane with my brothers’. Old Ben, Cody, and Obi Wan compare notes and realize that the clones ‘going insane’ happened a bit later to Obi Wan then it did to Old Ben.  They come to the erroneous, but understandable, conclusion that Obi Wan’s presence when Order 66 went out (not that they know that is what happened) somehow kept Cody from going crazy.
On the other side of the ship Padme and Anakin are making a concerted effort to get to know their now adult children.
Then they arrive at the Rebel base and additional, hilarious chaos. The Rebellion expected the Corellian freighter carrying Leia Organa (and were ecstatic that Leia, at least, survived Alderaan destruction) with R2D2 and C3P0.  They neither expected nor did not expect Han, Chewbacca, and Luke. They very much did not expect the Corellian freighter to be carrying: Presumed dead General Anakin Skywalker, Very officially dead Padme Amidala, not one but two General Obi Wan Kenobi (Possibly dead-no one has seen or heard of him in a decade, still has the highest bounty in the Empire; Also visibly different ages), and Cody (who was supposed to be on a mission somewhere in the Cadavine sector and looking much younger than he should).
Our four dimension travelers are abjectly overjoyed, as anyone they recognize has been dead a long time as far as they are concerned, to see the people of the rebellion. It is in this set of explanations that there are many revelations. Including, but not limited to: Vader’s fall was not from being tortured (Anakin posits that Vader chose to Fall to try and save Padme, then killed her anyway); The revelation about the chips in the Clones; The revelation of Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, twin children of Anakin and Padme.
The Leaders of the Rebellion starts to recall any Force Sensitives, Clones, and anyone who the four dimension travelers would have recognized. There are many happy reunions (including Old Ben reuniting with the Older Cody; which eventually also results in a foursome with the younger Obi Wan and Cody) As soon as it is clear that the dimension travelers intend to stay, the Rebellion starts to plan how to use having 2 Obi Wans, 2 Codys, a non fallen Anakin, and a living Padme in their fight against the Empire (the propaganda potential alone is glorious).   None of them are really in the position to be on the frontlines, but there is still plenty they can help with.
Anakin does put his foot down, that they will not hide that they come from a different dimension. Some of the rebellion had talked at first at playing that the four had been put into some kind of status (since three of the four were presumed dead, and the fourth was also genetically identical to enough people that the stasis is realistic).  Anakin pointed out that doing that would essentially steal Old Ben and Older Cody’s identity. Plus, and this was the argument that actually worked, hearing that Anakin was a dimensional traveler from a timeline where Anakin chose not to fall AND did not cause his wife’s death would both piss Vader off and, possibly demoralize him.
Anakin and Padme take special missions to squash Vaders psych like a bug.
It works.

So I've seen plenty of Obi-Wan survives A New Hope AUs, where his relationship with Luke and Leia gets to develop more and he becomes a pseudo father figure in the absence of all four parental figures, and I LOVE THEM, I do, but consider:
Bail and Breha survive A New Hope.
Instead of deciding to try to make Leia give up where she sent the plans by blowing up Alderaan, they just go straight to Tatooine. They can be pretty certain she sent them there and all, and it's not like THEY need the plans, the Death Star's completed and they've probably got copies and stuff around somewhere, so they lose nothing by just blowing up Tatooine in an effort to just. Eliminate the plans. Keep them from ever getting to the Rebellion.
Obi-Wan, Luke, Han, and Chewie manage to make it off just in time, get immediately pulled in via tractor beam and everything kind-of goes as per canon from there. They rescue Leia, Obi-Wan dies, the plans get to the Rebellion and Luke destroys the Death Star.
And Alderaan survives. Bail and Breha survive.
But of course, part of the reason Alderaan was blown up was to serve as an example to the rest of the galaxy, an example of what happens if you defy the Empire, if you choose to help the Rebellion. But they no longer have a planet killer machine, so they have to come up with an alternate option.
Executing Bail and Breha will just turn them into martyrs, but they can occupy Alderaan, suffocate the people's resources, and place all the blame on Bail and Breha, turn Alderaan on its leaders for causing them all to be punished.
Breha saw it coming and insisted Bail leave to join the Rebellion before the Empire could show up, but Breha stays behind, imprisoned, taking the blame for the Empire's crimes as her people suffer.
But Luke gets to meet Bail. Bail who is Leia's father, Bail who knew Padme and Anakin, Bail who knew Obi-Wan, Bail who was there when Luke was born. Bail who knows the truth. Keeping Luke and Leia separated, keeping their knowledge of each other a secret, was done to keep them from catching the Empire's eye. But they've both made themselves targets now and they're already together, there's no separating them now, not without a damn good explanation and there's no benefit to it anyway. So Bail tells them the truth. A piece of it, anyway, because there's no harm in telling them that they're twins, children of Padme Naberrie and Anakin Skywalker, without having to admit to what Anakin has become, to what Anakin did.
Luke gets to spend three years with Bail Organa, with his twin sister's father, learning about his parents from someone who knew them personally, learning about Obi-Wan, the Jedi, the truth about what happened during the war with the Jedi and the Senate, the truth about the Jedi's annihilation.
And in the absence of Obi-Wan, Bail is perfectly capable of sending Luke to Yoda on Dagobah. Bail can obviously tell that Obi-Wan had started training Luke, but hadn't been able to complete it or even get very far with it. And they could do with a Jedi or two in the Rebellion these days. So he sends Luke and Leia to Dagobah, to Yoda, while he stays behind to help lead the Rebels.
Luke and Leia get THREE YEARS with Yoda on Dagobah, training, learning, getting stronger. Occasionally, they do rejoin the Rebellion for missions, always promising to come back to train again with Yoda, always keeping that promise.
Until Hoth, until Bespin, and Luke was the only one back to Yoda that time, Leia still got stuck with Han on the Falcon and ends up on Bespin. Except this time, Leia's got a lightsaber, Leia's got the Force, so Leia fights back. It's Leia who gets to hear the final truth that Bail held back, not Luke. Except Anakin's an idiot and doesn't know that Luke and Leia are twins, so what he tells Leia is that he is LUKE'S father. He sees Leia's horror and thinks that it's because she hates Luke now, she doesn't trust Luke now, he doesn't recognize what he's just told Leia. Leia isn't Luke, though, she's already made her peace with whoever her birth family may have been. She's got a father, a father who loves her, a father who's been THERE for her, a father who fights for what's right, a father who has given everything for the galaxy and for her. She doesn't need Anakin Skywalker, she never did.
So she wins that battle and throws Anakin down that shaft. He lives, of course, because he refuses to die, but Leia escapes because she wouldn't let that truth destroy her, turn her into someone she isn't. She is Leia Organa, and she knows who the fuck she is.
(Also, fun side effect of this AU, Han doesn't get carbon frozen because there's no Jabba anymore, he got vaporized on Tatooine, so there's no one to put out a bounty on Han for Boba to try to collect.)
Leia doesn't go back to Dagobah immediately, she goes back to the Rebellion, to Bail, because she needs to talk to him. She needs to ask him why he never trusted her with this information before she brings it to Luke. Bail tells her that it wasn't a lack of trust, but simply a father's selfish desire not to have to hurt his daughter if he didn't have to. He knows now that it was wrong to keep that information from her when she and Vader were going to keep meeting, it was wrong to keep this choice from her and give Vader the power to tell her instead of Bail. She demands the truth about Anakin and Padme, so Bail tells her what little he does know. He'd told them it was a secret affair, that Padme had tried to keep the pregnancy secret. But what he hadn't told them about was Polis Massa. He hadn't told them about Obi-Wan's recollection of what happened on Mustafar with Anakin. He hadn't told them about just how involved Anakin was in Order 66 and the annihilation of the Jedi and the Republic. He hadn't told them about the part Anakin had played in Padme's death.
When she tells Luke the truth, he's upset. He rages a little. But ultimately, he has the time and space to come to terms with it, he's got Leia to go through it with him, to help him through the way he feels about it. He's always been more connected to the idea of Anakin Skywalker than she was, always dreamed more about that perfect father figure than she'd needed to. But Luke works through it. With Yoda, with Leia, with Obi-Wan. They both head back to the Rebellion when it starts to feel like time, when Yoda dies and declares them as ready as they can be. Luke sees Bail, remembers Owen and Beru, and realizes that maybe Leia was right. Maybe he DOESN'T really need Anakin Skywalker. He doesn't need to define himself by someone who was never there, by someone who abandoned him.
But Bail had told Leia one last thing, and Leia had passed it on to Luke. Padme's final words. Leia had chosen to believe that it didn't really matter, Vader was a scourge upon the galaxy and she intended to protect the galaxy from that, rid the galaxy of that scourge, no matter what. But Luke remembers them. Luke doesn't NEED Anakin Skywalker, but he thinks that maybe Anakin Skywalker might need him. For his mother's sake, for Owen and Beru who'd let Luke believe the best, for Obi-Wan who had called him a good friend, for the grandmother he never met but who he'd heard so many stories about and who believed in her son so much she sent him away to a better life. He wants to try.
And when it's all over, and people around the galaxy cheer and celebrate, recently freed Breha Organa looks up at the sky, at the stars, hoping this means her husband will come home to her soon.
Bail Organa, surrounded by the people of Endor, the Rebellion he founded, and his daughter and son, looks up at the sky himself, waiting for the moment he can return home to Alderaan, and bring their whole family together for the first time.

Ok but can you imagine a fic where it's not Anakin but Obi-Wan that turns to protect everyone? Like maybe he was the only one to be sent to rescue Palpatine and Dooku tells him that Palpatine was grooming Anakin to be a Sith and Obi-Wan goes ABSOLUTELY NOT & tries to kill Palps then & there to protect his padawan? But Palpatine's always one step ahead & tells him if he dies that the bombs 'mysteriously' rigged in Senator Amidala's apartment would go off while Anakin was on Coruscant? So Obi would reluctantly agrees to continue on like nothings happened but planning to tell Mace the second he gets back, but Palps decides to set off Order 66 while he still has the upper hand.
Anakin & Padmé see what's happening to all the Jedi across the galaxy, & Anakin tries to go out to help but Padmé convinces him he can't save anyone if he's dead so they sneak off Coruscant to run to Alderaan to meet up with Bail but Padmé goes into labor halfway through so they have to land to have the twins. Ahsoka finds them, and has just enough time to introduce herself as their aunty before both her & Anakin sense Obi-Wan landing on the planet. Anakin tells Ahsoka to stay behind to take care of the twins bc something feels off about Obi & tells her to get everyone back to Alderaan if something goes wrong.
Turns out something was wrong with Obi, who now has bright yellow eyes & carries himself like someone who's still learning how to be in control of their body & tells Anakin he has no choice but to turn or lose the only things he has left. Anakin, who already told Ahsoka to hightail it out of there, tells him he won't kill him, but would rather die than call a Sith his master.
Bada Bing bada boom, they fight. Anakin refuses to go on the offensive & ends up losing his lightsaber somewhere & gets cornered by Obi.
All the way into hyperspace, Ahsoka can feel the moment Anakin dies. Luke & Leia start crying, & she tries to comfort them through her own pain. Eventually, they all get to Alderaan where Yoda & Mace are waiting for them with Bail. Everyone agrees that the twins should still be split up, even just for a little bit while they learn to shield to make sure the new Emporer doesn't find them. The Organa's still take Leia, but since Obi-Wan is not there to suggest Tatooine, Luke is brought to Naboo to live with the Naberries.
Eventually the twins do meet up a few years later as the new King of Naboo & Senator Organa, while Sith Obi watches them & mourns over the 15th year anniversary of his padawan & grandchild's death.
Eventually when the Death Star is completed 2 years early & the twins work together to steal the plans & end up getting caught together while doing so, Obi interrogates Luke first & finds they're something familiar about his presence in the Force. Later when the two of them escape together, Obi-Wan swears he sees the blond, adopted son of the Naberries perform a trick very familiar to the man who raised Anakin Skywalker.
FALLEN OBI-WAN IS SO GOOD.
He has worked and tried so hard all his life and has suffered and strained and still, in the end, his fall comes from his love and need to protect Anakin and his family of the Jedi Order. It's heart-shattering.
But also...evil Obi-Wan has some sexiness to it too...
But the thing is--I don't see Obi-Wan staying as a Vader type for long. Palpatine takes him out of greed, which blinds him, but it was foolish to try and fully control the Negotiator.
I say Obi-Wan is now the new Emperor of a very different Empire.
The twins, Ahsoka, and all the others would have to work together to have a chance to defeat him and even then...can they?
And also, cause I am trash:
he finds and raises a young Din Djarin who is now his heir and is eyeing this unusual, beautiful man from Naboo.
And cause I am even more trash:
Dark Obi-Wan as Emperor, Dark Padme who thinks she lost her babies as Empress, (Dark?) Anakin as the beloved guard dog of them both, Din Djarin as the adopted son of this group who is raised to be the next Emperor
All the Clones live and follow their royal family with intense loyalty and love. Mandalore, who the Emperor is fond of, slowly becomes the new center of the galaxy and the prince's world which he rules with an iron fist that his people thrive from
Ugh, that's the good stuff

So like quick question sorry:why do we hate ki-adi-mundi? I know he looks funny n all but I’m genuinely curious
His vibes are rancid. Lmao im just joking, but also not really.
His vibes have always been 100% off to me and I could never really place it aside from bad man is rancid, but if you're prepared to strap your boots in and be here for the long haul here's a more detailed explanation:
Right off the bat, I can tell you without a doubt that Mundi committed war crimes on screen.
Yes, there were a number of atrocities committed throughout the Clone Wars— child soldiers, torture, slavery, attempting to destroy medical facilities, perfidy (multiple times over, thanks to Obi Wan), faking being a noncombatant (padme), multiple accounts of genocide, etc.— but where other Jedi have 'redeemable' traits to back them up, I personally don't believe that Ki Adi Mundi does.
(More below)
And most of the war crimes committed by Jedi— barring Child Soldiers— are not of a violent nature. Deceptive and somewhat morally incorrect? Absolutely. And the Clones are another can of worms entirely, but Mundi?
Well. During the second battle of Geonosis, Ki Adi and his clones willingly blowtorch civilians and non-combatants. According to the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons or CCW/CCWC, you can only use flamethrowers on heavy machinery (like tanks) and to clear away terrain.
Protocol III on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Incendiary Weapons prohibits, in all circumstances, making [...] civilians or civilian objects, the object of attack by any weapon [...] designed to set fire [...] or to cause burn injury to persons through the action of flame, heat or a combination thereof, [...] Forest and other plants may not be a target unless they are used to conceal combatants or other military objectives.
On top of that, Mundi appears to lack empathy.
yes, Jedi are well aware and try not to cling to their emotions, but we see time and time again that there is a dividing line between not allowing emotions to control you and not feeling any empathy at all. Many Jedi do feel and display empathy, they might not say words that state as such, but their tone of voice, facial expressions, body language, and so on display this.
Mundi on the other hand?
Almost nothing.
In legends, when his entire family was murdered during the Clone Wars, pretty much just he just went "well that's the will of the Force" and moved on (yes, there's more to it and people will state that he 'overcame the darkness' but come on, we see like none of that).
He's one of the few Jedi we see who was in contact with and had a blood family, some of the others being Nico Diath and Plo Koon and while we don't see Nico Diath as much, we can assume that if Sha had been murdered, Plo wouldn't have been so flippant (as we see Plo showing empathy and love multiple times, and on the inverse, the bond he had with Sha was so strong that it sent Sha into a pain induced blackout when he died)
You'd think that there would be more of a reaction or maybe a moment to see him grieve in private over the death of his sister, five wives, and multiple daughters (and maybe sons) but nope.
As an added bonus, when Anakin Skywalker went to Ki-Adi Mundi about the death of his mother he basically just told him to get over it.
In the 03 Clone Wars, the Muunilist 10 rescues him at Hypori and push Grievous back. instead of taking this as a chance to retreat, Mundi wants to pursue General Grievous, despite the fact that he just saw the guy mow down a number of other Jedi, had him on the ropes, and took out three of the M10. All while Aalya and Shaak Ti were in critical condition. Sure, he might not have known that last part, but Mundi himself was in no shape to fight Grievous, and the M10, while cool and badass as they are, they are not Jedi and Grievous took them out faster than he took the Jedi down.
(in TCW it would've been different but 03 was Jedi Centric)
I digress.
There are a lot of other reasons why, you can find all sorts of discussions online, but these are basically my main reasons.
ALSO HIS VIBES ARE STILL RANCID

Fic Idea Masterlist
Who He Is – Qui-Gon Jinn, right before the Naboo mission, is tossed forward in time where he meets a young Togruta padawan right off the coast of a battle. As she brings him to the base to meet with the High General, he talks a bit about his own padawan. (Time Travel)
Bending Jedi – The Jedi can bend the four main elements they have been keeping these specific abilities hidden away from the populous when they can, as people tend to fear them with what they can already do, the discovery of bending in Jedi would breed more distrust and fear. But the war has made that too difficult, as the Jedi are desperate to protect, and the clones are the first to discover the Jedi’s abilities, more than what they were told in their training. (Bending Jedi Avatar-Style)
Together Twins – An attack on Polis Massa forces Obi-Wan Kenobi to flee with both Luke and Leia Skywalker.
Chances – Trading their silence and obedience for the clones’ freedom at the end of the war, the Jedi find themselves nearly shunned and hated with the intense anti-Jedi sentiments that run rampant due to Palpatine’s influence. The clones refuse to accept this.
Order & Academy – After being rejected by Qui-Gon Jinn, initiate Obi-Wan Kenobi finds himself forward in time during that of the height of Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy. (Time Travel)
Third Systems Unprepared – During the explosion where he received his iconic scar, Commander Cody’s chip was knocked around to the point of disuse. When the Chancellor calls on Utapau to Execute Order 66, Cody has no idea what it means, therefore unable to send the orders to the rest of the 212th Attack Battalion and much of the Open Circle Fleet. It changes a lot.
Reverse Psychometry – After coming back from his stint with the Dark Side, Quinlan Vos spends some time with Obi-Wan Kenobi and touches his cloak with an ungloved hand. Instead of his psychometry giving him flashes of the past, he’s fairly certain it gives him a flash of the future. One where Obi-Wan’s grief is overwhelming, everyone is dead, and Anakin Skywalker burns without his limbs. (Reverse psychometry)
Kamino Investigation – Instead of chasing Jango Fett off Kamino, Obi-Wan Kenobi stays on planet, giving the tracker to another nearby knight, while he investigates the clones and the events surrounding them.
Space Survival – An explosion goes off on the Negotiator, which is in low orbit over the Republic world for repairs. Obi-Wan Kenobi is aboard and holding as much of the ship together as he can for the evacuation of the wounded.
Bracca Detour – Upon an accidental detour to Bracca after being sent to Tatooine for exile with Luke, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds Cal Kestis.
Lothal AU – Owen Lar’s disbelief and mistrust of Obi-Wan chases him away and the Jedi leaves with Luke (or Leia), eventually finding himself on Lothal where he befriends the Bridgers.
Bit Age Swap – Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker has no intention on taking a padawan just as the war is starting, despite being a knight for nearing a decade until his master, Mace Windu, comes to him with an orphaned padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, whose Master died on Geonosis and is determined to fight in this war, whether the Order likes it or not. Skywalker quickly discovers there is more to padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi than first meets the eye. (Smidge of Age-Swapping)
Din Djarin Au – With the Sith and Separatists defeated, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the 212th are finishing the last of the battles against the droids and stubborn Separatist leaders. It is on a planet, during one of these battles, where the droids are invading a city, that General Kenobi rescues newly orphaned and force-sensitive Din Djarin.
Stay Out of it – Obi-Wan and the 212thare in bound to Coruscant for a few days’ rest, refuel and new orders when Anakin and Padme’s marriage comes to light. And then, Obi-Wan can’t get back to the front quick enough.
This is Different – Coming back from Melida-Daan has proven more difficult than anticipated for Obi-Wan Kenobi and it only gets worse when he wakes up, decades later, only to be found – and accepted – by a monstrous Sith Lord, who seems to have some odd soft spot for him. (Time Travel)
Lineage Reconnection – Obi-Wan brings it upon himself to contact Qui-Gon’s lineage and friends to inform them of the news of his death. Yoda does what he does best and meddles. At least, it appears this time, it worked for the better of everyone involved.
Back with Hope – Obi-Wan Kenobi, a while after Order 66 finds himself back in time, reliving events. He doesn’t entirely know where to start with changing things until something changes for him. The Jedi receive a call from an unknown source – it is tiny clone children calling for their only hope – Obi-Wan Kenobi. (Time Travel)
Undying – It is on Bandomeer when Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn discover that the former cannot die, and it is used to their advantage. Obi-Wan keeps his secret, even after Qui-Gon’s death, until he can’t anymore. It is the revelation of the Chosen One prophecy that his purpose is revealed – as a Guardian, Obi-Wan Kenobi cannot die until the Chosen One has brought balance to the Force.
Lineage Last – Anakin and Ahsoka both leave the Jedi Order after she is accused – and proven innocent – and although Obi-Wan understands, the fact that he they left, and he is the last of his lineage doesn’t hurt any less.
Amor – Obi-Wan has been to war before; no one needed to convince him to wear at least some armor. Now how much, that is a different story.
Canon Switch – Anakin Style – After saying something he would come to regret; Anakin Skywalker finds himself in a universe where Obi-Wan had died on Naboo... and Qui-Gon had lived. It is not nearly as he dreamed it would be. (Alternate Universe – Canon Divergence – Time Travel)
Canon Switch – QuiGon Style – A heartbroken Qui-Gon survived Naboo while his padawan did not. Barely surviving for the next ten years, Qui-Gon finds himself in a universe where the opposite is true. (Time Travel)
Dooku Set Up – Tired of Palpatine’s schemes, Count Dooku thinks of defecting when the master Sith Lord is killed. Someone is setting him up and Dooku reaches out to the only person he desperately hopes can help - his grand padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Extra Weird Jedi – The Jedi end up being different than the clones had expected. More odd, dangerous, intriguing. The Kaminoans had told them one thing, the populace’s view of the Jedi. But up close, working with them? It’s so much different.
Baby Counselor – Obi-Wan Kenobi is the youngest member of the Council and is known a bit as the Council baby – at least with other masters – and those on it, are not afraid to treat him that way. It just a tad changes things.
Crechemaster Obi-Wan – When the war comes to an end, Obi-Wan Kenobi decides to become a creche master while Anakin and Padme expect their first child. But when the Senator dies of a cause that is no one’s fault, Anakin is left bereft and leaves his children behind. Obi-Wan takes Luke and Leia into his creche clan.
To be Chosen – Jedi Luke Skywalker is thrown back in time to that where the Order still exists. Finding he cannot go back; he constructs a new life and home into the Temple. Several years later, even though Master Yoda tries to keep a specific initiate away from his sight, Luke encounters him anyways and thinks, perhaps he and Obi-Wan were linked, always meant to be. Perhaps it was Luke’s turn to give back to his master. To be Chosen. (Time Travel)
Kamino Defense – Peace is restored after the war, although the work isn’t done. In response to the controversy surrounding his padawans marriage to Senator Amidala, Obi-Wan accepts a post to protect the clones and their young from power hungry warlords and greedy businessmen on Kamino while the Senate debates what to do with them.
Burned Deep – A thousand years ago, the Jedi chained themselves to the Senate and Republic and dismantled their military as a show of good faith. Now the Senate controls the Jed strictly to keep them from taking over. The Temple becomes a beautiful cage, their stringent parameters for missions a leash. In this world, when the war begins, Jedi are let loose as more of attack dogs than Generals. (Alternate Universe – Canon History Divergence)
Jumping Ages – In an attempt to use what she thinks is a Sith weapon, Ventress just ends up causing some chaos for Obi-Wan and the crew as he ends up popping in at different ages and stages of his life over the course of an unknown amount of time. The only one who doesn’t seem to be rattled is Cody. (De-Aging/Age Regression)
Padme Lives – After surviving Order 66, Padme is forced to hide away with her children, leaving Obi-Wan free to find surviving Jedi and learn about the clones’ predicament.
We Are Burning Stars - Instead of on a faraway planet, fighting the last battles of the war, Obi-Wan Kenobi is walking aside his Commander in the Jedi Temple when Order 66 hits.
Revolving Suns - Raised by Obi-Wan Kenobi, teenaged Luke Skywalker finds himself back into the Clone Wars while General Kenobi falls into an unexplainable coma.

I’m seeing a lot of people (some on tumblr but most on Reddit) getting angry about Obi-Wan not being a fantastic fighter and having trouble with the force and basically just not being at his 100% immediately after 10 years of desert.
and like…
Duh?
Tumblr media
But beyond that I think what they’re really upset about is that Obi-Wan has always been a mentor/ competent side character. In the OT he was the one with all the answers. He was the wise old man. He didn’t have these flaws, he didn’t have any inner battles to fight.
And in the prequels he was still sorta a mentor figure. He was closer to main character status but he went through very few internal conflicts. Besides “I know I should kill Anakin and put him out of his misery but I can’t even look at him right now” he has basically no unsteady moments in the Prequels. He does his thing. Sent to kill grievous? Kills grievous. Sent to find Jango? Finds Jango. (Gets captured too but that was basically completely out of his control)
Yeah, Mace Windu comes to rescue him and some Jedi die but they’re also there to rescue Anakin and Padme, not to mention figure out what’s going on with this droid factory.
And so when watching Kenobi, where Obi-Wan is a main character, it’s kinda uncomfortable. To see people die for Obi-Wan where in the OT it was Obi-Wan dying for others. To see Obi-Wan struggling with his faith when it’s always Obi-Wan who’s so steadfast in his beliefs. It makes me uncomfortable. This isn’t normal for him. People are calling him a burden and a danger and they’re right! Bail Organa flies to Tatooine to give him a pep talk and he needed it! This is not regular obi wan behavior.
It’s weird to see Obi-Wan, the person who helps, needing help. You kinda want/ expect him to just do it by himself without being a bother. Because that’s who he is everywhere else.
But people need to understand that’s how we know this is a good show.
Just because this isn’t a side of Obi-Wan you’re familiar with doesn’t mean it’s a bad show!! It means your a bad audience! We knew this was going to happen people. We knew this was going to be about him healing. He’s a main character now that means he’s not perfect. It’s about internal struggle sorry if the lightsaber fights aren’t cool enough for you.
Everyone needs to pick one. Is Rey a Mary Sue for being too good at fighting in TFA or is Obi-Wan, after 10 years of pure mental illness, not good enough??
Understanding that being a main character means going through development is kinda important if you want to enjoy any media ever? If people in this fandom could think for a little while that’d be great.

today’s rec theme is: time-travel fixit
With a bonus Blyla ficlet that is not time-travel at all.
each day you’d rise with me by blackkat: Bly and Aayla are married. ^__^ It’s adorable. Fox and Bly are very brotherly.
Now I could rec ten thousand fics by blackkat with various degrees of screaming delight. (She’s so good! She sells you on the darnedest couples! I ship Fox/Padme/Maul because of her!!) I’m going to limit myself to a single one-shot for each of my time-travel categories.
Time-Loops
keep on by blackkat - After four times through a loop that begins with confronting the Chancellor, Mace reaches out to the Coruscant Guard commanders for help. Fox, Thire, and Stone are delighted to help murder their boss; this is their best day ever, General Windu.
-
An Echo in the Force (a whisper in a cave) by @stardust2flame: Feemor gets stuck in a Groundhog Day-style loop (one single day, resets at midnight or when the person involved dies) on the day Qui-Gon Jinn was killed by Maul on Naboo.
It would be a lot easier to deal with if he knew that was why this was happening. And he wasn’t in another system entirely. And Count Dooku wasn’t a Sith. Or a master duelist.
Eeth Koth and Jocasta Nu make excellent supporting cast, and I deeply appreciate them telling Feemor to take a rest when he was getting a little unhinged from the loops. If things are going to reset anyway, he can afford a mental health day or six.
Thrown-Back-in-Time
Dominoes by meridianpony: Domino Squad wakes up the day before their final test. Domino Squad also remembers passing that test, joining the war, and subsequently dying.
It’s not a good day for Domino Squad. But things get better as they figure out they can change things. Like, three of five of them dying at Rishi Station. Of course that means all five of them get swept into the 501st and face the 501st’s problems. Like Cutup getting snagged to help with the mission dealing with the Blue Shadow Virus. (Fives panics then makes other people panic when he does stupid things like jump out of a dropship after Cutup.)
Not Bad Batch-compliant; in this ‘verse, Echo was not rescued and died in the hands of Wat Tambor. Hevy, Cutup, and Droidbait get to be extremely rad, and there is a lot of good character-development. The Teth Six Five (the author forgot one of them for too long to work them back in well) are the principal secondary characters, and it’s lovely to see them.
Currently incomplete but still being updated.
-
and treasure is brittle by blackkat: Outsider-pov on the time-traveler, which is always fun. Mace gets sent back to the past, and he’s going to deal with this Sith problem. Perhaps, though, the best way to kill the senior senator from Naboo/secret Sith apprentice is to hire someone whose people have had a long and storied history of fighting Force-users.
Thus, the visit to Jaster Mereel with a job offer.
Also, young Depa and Jango’s interactions immediately made me want more of them, because it seems like it would go hilariously. Also, there would be explosions.
This is one of her fics that could very easily be turned into a massive multi-chapter story, but it’s just a one-shot. Given how many other multi-chapter stories she has, I can understand the decision to just post this. I’m saddened because I would love a multi-chapter story out of this, but again, she has so many other stories she works on.
-
They Don’t Care About Us by ironhoshi: Boba Fett and Cal Kestis get chucked back in time to their younger bodies just days before the Clone Wars began. Which means they’re around ten or so. And know the future. And are very determined not to let that future happen.
Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jango Fett somehow wind up co-parenting them, much to their mutual chagrin. Oh, and then Cal’s clone commander is also found to be in his old body and rather desperately looking for his cadet to protect him.
So now Jango has two sons, and he’s pretty sure Obi-Wan is going to make him adopt all the rest of the clones before too long.
I love the way this author writes Boba and Cal interacting. They’ve got several other stories with them, too. One is a time-travel fixit with the two of them as adults getting sent back to prevent Jaster Mereel’s death on Korda IV, one is a romance that Boba initiates by kidnapping Cal, because Boba is a dumbass.
Currently incomplete but still being updated.
It’s Dimension-Travel, Not Time-Travel
there but for the grace of god by wanderlove: Really, the summary sells this one itself.
There’s nothing particularly remarkable about Sullust. Well, except for Obi-Wan’s time-traveling son. But, you know. Apart from that.
Or, baby-Luke-raised-by-Ben-Kenobi shows up in the middle of the Clone Wars, causes Anakin and Obi-Wan to put two and two together and get forty-five, and in the process inspires a series of heartfelt conversations that may or may not avert the terrible future he’s from.

I have often given Qui-Gon Jinn a hard time because he’s so often used in STAR WARS fandom as a weapon to beat on other characters I love and it makes it difficult to like him, as well as it overshadows who the character himself is. So, to help balance that out some, I wanted to do a set of recs to remind myself–and just share some happiness in!–that I actually do very much like Qui-Gon! He’s a good person who really loved the people around him, he cared very deeply, he had an amazing friendship with Yoda (seriously, that Yoda’s the one he reaches out to when he becomes a Force Ghost, that even after death, Qui-Gon loves his Jedi family, it gives me feelings in my feelings place every single time), and one of my favorite things about Master & Apprentice is that I often got the impression that he knew he was kind of obnoxious sometimes, but he was at peace with it, he was fine with that. That was a straight shot to my heart, I love that dude! So, here have some fics that celebrate that Qui-Gon is actually a really great character. He may not always be the central character, but I remember him being well portrayed in these and they gave me good Qui-Gon feelings! Soulmates [Anakin x Reader]
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3000+
Summary: You had always been in love with Anakin, but jedi are forbidden to love. When you see Anakin with Padme, it breaks your heart, but the heartache doesn't end there.
Requested on Wattpad at StarkWars084
Warnings: A whole lot of death
You sprinted down the halls of the senate unable to contain your excitement. Anakin would be flying in soon, and you wanted to be there to see him. It felt like you hadn't seen your friend in ages, but that was mostly your feelings talking. You had no trouble admitting to yourself that you were fond of him, but as he was a Jedi you had no chance. Every day you wished he would begin to see you differently, but he never did.
You pushed the thought aside, just happy to see him soon. You slowed your pace slightly when you got to the landing pad, and watched as the ship pulled in. There was a group of politicians waiting to speak with Chancellor Palpatine who Anakin and Obi-Wan had been sent to rescue. It wouldn't be very polite to charge through them; so you looked around them as the door opened. You could hear your heart pounding in your ears and told yourself to calm down. Your heart hardly listened to you, but it slowed as you waited behind the politicians.
The crowd swarmed Chancellor Palpatine when they saw him, and immediately whisked him away. After they had cleared, you saw Anakin jogging toward you. You wrapped your arms around him as he pulled you into a hug.
"Hello, Y/N," he greeted you. "I'm glad to see you, old friend." You hugged him closer as you realized how much you missed him. You wanted to be with him more often, but he was always off being a hero. Sometimes you wished he would just forget being a Jedi, but you knew it was what he wanted.
"It's been a while," you said more plainly than you had intended. Your mind had been wandering and you weren't thinking about what you were saying. You scolded yourself internally for your cold response. You stood there for a little bit thinking of what to say to make up for your rudeness. After an awkward pause your cheeks started to flush, so you turned and walked back inside. You heard Anakin follow quickly behind you.
"Is everything alright?" he asked. You wanted to tell him what you were thinking, but it wasn't fair to him. He chose to be a Jedi; no one made him. After a deep breath, you decided that you would push the thoughts of you and Anakin together aside so you could talk with him like you used to. You quickly regained your composure and smiled at Anakin.
"Yes, everything's fine," you assured him.
He smiled and walked beside you. "You know, I thought about you when I was saving the chancellor," he said. Great, that wasn't helping anything.
You laughed. "You must have thought about how much I don't like politics," you joked.  Anakin chuckled.
"Not quiet," he responded. "I was thinking that you would make a good Jedi." Your stomach sank. The thought of being a Jedi had never appealed to you. The Council had offered for you to train as one when you were young, but even then you didn't like the idea. You had hoped that you would find someone to love, and, apparently, you didn't care if they loved you back. Anakin saw the look on your face and tried to change your mind.
"Just think about it," he pushed. "You're already force sensitive and we could fight together---"
"It's too late for me to learn that," you pointed out.
He stopped as he considered what you said. "I could teach you," he said. "I'm going to be a Jedi master soon, and, even though you couldn't be my padawan, I could teach you some things."
You shook your head and smiled. "Anakin, I'm happy with my job," you said. You currently worked for Senator Amidala, mostly tidying up. It wasn't as glamorous as being a Jedi Knight and saving the Chancellor, but you appreciated it.
He shrugged. "It was just a thought." He nudged your arm and rolled his eyes. "And don't worry, my master has no problem telling me when a thought is, as he puts it, 'outlandish'." You laughed and kept walking, but when you looked behind you Anakin hadn't moved.
"Are you coming?" you asked. He was looking off at something in the distance, and you could tell he wasn't going to follow you.
"I'll catch up," he announced. Once again, you and Anakin wouldn't have much time to talk. It frustrated you that you couldn't even walk a hallway and have a nice conversation without an interruption.
You frowned. "OK, but I do have work."
"Well, I'll talk to you later," he decided absentmindedly. You wanted to point out that by the time your work would be done, the sun would have set, and you'd have to sleep. But, you knew that that was just how things worked between with him. You never really had time to have a real conversation anymore, it was mostly just pleasantries. Occasionally you might be able to ask for a word of advice, or a particular event that had happened, but that's all it ever was.
Anakin nodded, and you turned around and went to work.
You knocked on the door to Padme's room. You waited for an answer, but didn't get one. She had said she would be there, but when you walked in the room was empty. For a second you weren't sure what to do, but it felt wrong to just stand there. You didn't feel much like working though. You tried to stop thinking of Anakin, but the way he walked off unsettled you. Obviously he was busy, but there was something else. You could feel it.  You started cleaning, but halfway through the chore, the door opened. Padme walked in, but froze when she saw you.
"Y/N," she gasped. "I thought I left you a note saying to take the rest of the day off."
You looked around expecting to see it somewhere. "I'm sorry I haven't seen it," you said. You were distracted by the nervousness you sensed from her. Sensing emotions was one of your better skills and you knew you weren't wrong. Surely she wasn't upset that you had cleaned her room.
"Oh, well, you can go," she said as she made a strange gesture with her hands. You didn't think it was intended for you. She was less offering and more telling you to go home, but you suddenly didn't want to. It wasn't any of your business, but you couldn't help being curious. Nevertheless, you walked out the door and offered your help one more time. She declined, and the next thing you knew, you were out in the hallway with a door in your face. Why were your friends acting so strange? She was a senator, of course she must have secrets, but you couldn't shake the feeling that the secret was specifically against you. Was it possible you were going to be fired? That didn't seem right, but you couldn't be sure.
"Y/N." You jumped when you heard Anakin's voice behind you. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you."
"It's alright," you laughed nervously. "I actually wanted to talk to you."
"What is it?" he questioned. For the first time you felt Anakin being impatient with you. It wasn't in his tone, but it was in the air. Maybe you were wrong with what you felt this time. Maybe you sensed something else.
"Do you think Senator Amidala is alright?" you asked. This wasn't what you wanted to talk about, but you liked talking to Anakin about what was on your mind.
Anakin seemed to look right through you. "She seemed alright to me," he said. "I was actually assigned for her security. I'm on my way to see her now."
It was clear he didn't want to talk. You stood in silence for a while until he excused himself, and you started sulking away from the door. You weren't really thinking, but you were upset. Surely you hadn't done anything to make Anakin mad at you. Maybe he was just on edge about the whole mission, and needed some time alone.
You decided you would sleep on it. But soon you were in your bed tossing and turning all night not sleeping on anything.
It was still dark when you woke, but you found it impossible to fall back asleep. So, you got up. You still felt badly that you had judged him when he had done nothing wrong. An apology was definitely
You got dressed and went to see if Senator Amidala was awake so you could start work early. Before you were about to knock, you froze. Eavesdropping, of course, isn't something you'd ever try to do, but you couldn't help yourself when you heard voices behind the door. The voices were nearly inaudible, and you were practically lying on the door to make out the words. You heard Senator Amidala talking soothingly.
"It was just a dream," she was saying.
"I won't let this one come true." You froze. You knew immediately who was in the room with her though you didn't want to believe it. You knew he said he was protecting Padme, but surely that wouldn't mean staying in the same room?
"Anakin?" you barely whispered his name. After yesterday, you didn't want to jump to conclusions, but your heart was pounding. You knocked at the door more harshly than you intended. "Senator Amidala?" you called. You heard footsteps heading toward you.
The door creaked open a little bit and Padme Amidala's face appeared squinting in the hall light. "Y/N? It's so early, what are you doing here?"
"Couldn't sleep," you responded simply. "May I start my work early?" You bit your tongue as you waited for her response.
"I'm actually still a bit tired, but come back in an hour and you can start, okay?" She started to close the door, but you quickly spoke up.
"Are you okay?" you asked.
The senator opened the door again, and looked at you quizzically. "Yes, I'm fine," she replied hesitantly. You knew she was fine before she had said anything. You expected that answer.
"Then why did you call for Anakin?" It wasn't your place to talk to her like this, and you even considered dropping it and convincing yourself you hadn't heard Anakin. But that would never work because you knew it was him.
Padme stepped outside the door and closed it behind her. You thought you sensed panic coming from her, but your emotions were clouding your senses. "Y/N, I haven't called for Anakin." She put her hand on your shoulder and started guiding you away from the door. "It's early, maybe we should get you back to bed."
You quickly brushed her hand off your shoulder. "I don't need to go to bed!" you snapped. "I need you to stop lying to me!" Padme straightened her posture.
"I told you, I didn't call for Anakin. If you'll excuse me, I'm going back to bed." She turned around and went back into her room.
You felt like you had been punched in the gut and your head was spinning. You knew you were right. You stood there a while, caught up in such a mix of emotions you couldn't move. Jedi weren't supposed to have attachments, but being a Jedi didn't make you inhuman. Your eyes filled with tears and you hurried back to your room.
It hurt more than you thought it would. You would never have thought that Anakin would break the Jedi code. But he had broken it, and not for you. Not for someone he had known since the beginning of his apprenticeship. Not for someone whom he had shared burdens with. Not his closest friend. He chose a senator who happened to be your boss.
You were beyond frustrated. You were furious. You were angry at the Jedi and their codes. You were angry at yourself for not seeing this would happen. And most of all you were angry with Anakin. Maybe you shouldn't have been mad at him, but you didn't care. It was so incredibly stupid for him to be so blind about your feelings for him. No you weren't expecting him to like you just because you liked him, but you thought he would at least have the decency to tell you that he was already breaking the rules for someone else.
Would Padme still be expecting you to see her in an hour? If there was a chance you still had your job, would you even want to go back? Out of the list of people you were angry with, she wasn't one of them. It wasn't her fault; it was Anakin's. And any friendship you and Padme may have had was gone thanks to him.
You curled up in a ball on your bed and cried silently. You had to decide within the hour.
***
You tried for two days, but you couldn't continue working for Senator Amidala. It was only a few months ago you had quit, but, in your opinion, it was for the better. You found yourself a new job caring for younglings, and between the training and the childish mischief you never really had time to think about that morning. It was perfect. You loved your work and you hated looking back.
You were on your way to a group of younglings now. Their teacher had been called to an emergency meeting during his training session, and you were to watch them until he returned. It was a simple enough task in words, but you knew what young children could get up to, and you picked up your pace so they wouldn't be unsupervised for much longer.
When you got there, the younglings were all sitting quietly in their seats. It was strange to see. You were used to seeing younglings chasing each other around and causing a ruckus in the short time their masters were out. It took you a while, but you realized that with the war between the Jedi and the Separatists would be taking a toll on their teacher. Training was most likely not the most fun activity with your teacher so stressed.
You did your best to keep them busy, but something just wasn't right. They were all quiet, and you found even yourself being of low energy. There was something dark and heavy in the air, but you couldn't put your finger on what it was.
An hour passed before you started listening to your gut. The force was disturbed, which made you anxious. You tried to pass it off as paranoia, but you knew that wasn't the case. After making a quick, and admittedly terrible, plan, you jumped into action.
"Everyone listen closely," you addressed the younglings. "I'm going to find Master Jencil. I want you all to get behind the chairs and be as quiet as you can."
You stood at the door waiting until everyone was in their place. Once you were satisfied you left the room and quickly made your way to the council room. Empty. Your nerves were about as close to the edge as they could be. If they weren't in the the council room, they must be in the conference room.
You made your way there as quickly as you could. As you turned the corner to the conference room, you noticed the door was closed. You slowed your pace, scared of what you would find on the other side. You made your way over to the control panel and opened the door.
Nothing would have prepared you for what you saw. The whole conference committee was sprawled across the floor without a single sign of life. You could feel the coldness in the air, and a horrible shiver went down your spine. You closed your eyes as you tried to wipe the image from your mind.
You wanted to rush to them and see if there was any chance they would be alive, but you stood there with only one thought in your mind. The children. You had left the children alone and scared. Your head was spinning at the thought of what could happen to them. As soon as you could walk again, you bolted for the training room your younglings were hiding in.
When the doors slid open, exactly what you had feared was waiting on the other side. All the younglings, every last one, were on the floor unmoving. You froze as the breath escaped your lungs and the room spun. You had let this happen. You left them alone when you were supposed to be watching them. You were supposed to care for them.  Your eyes filled with tears as you fell to the ground, unable to take your eyes away from the still children. You felt this was all your fault. The sense of death was putrid, and you couldn't stand to be there. But you couldn't move. You had no choice but to sit there, terrified of what you were seeing.
It was only when your head had barely cleared when you saw him. A man in dark robes that fell to the floor was walking toward you. You couldn't see who he was at first, but when your eyes focused, your heart sank. Walking toward you, lightsaber in hand, was Anakin Skywalker.
You wanted to scream, but you had lost your voice. You wanted to run, but you were petrified. You wanted above all else for your eyes to be deceiving you, but there was no mistake. Anakin had murdered these children.
"Y/N," he said your name so softly you could scarcely hear him.
"You did this..." You could barely choke out the words. Anakin lowered his head, and you saw his cheeks were stained with tears.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. You didn't even have time to process what was happening before Anakins lightsaber was pierced through your abdomen. With a sharp gasp you crumpled to the floor. Anakin held you in his arms. You heard his sobs, but they were getting quieter as you slowly lost consciousness.
"Forgive me," he choked. "It was the only way to save her. I'm sorry." He held you close to him, and kissed the top of your head. "I'm so sorry."
***
After that night, you had spent years as a ghost dwelling with the Jedi who had died. At first you wished you would have just died and let that be the end. You didn't want to remember what had happened. You felt like one worthless ghost among other ghosts who all seemed to have a purpose. They always had someone to follow and guide, but you had no one. Your family had died when you were young, and everyone you considered a friend was just as dead as you were. The only "friend" you had who was alive was Anakin and he had stabbed you in the back.
Even though that was true you still wanted to see him. You wanted to see what had happened to him, and why he had done those terrible things. You were about to give up hope and wander around the afterlife aimlessly. But then you heard of Anakin's children; a boy and a girl.
Luke and Leia, you decided, were the ones you would help. You would guide them and try to keep them from their father's ways. Losing them to the dark side was not an option. The full twenty-three years you had been with the twins had led to this moment. Against all odds, Luke had brought the good out of Anakin, before he had died. And now Anakin was going to join the ranks of the fallen Jedi. Suddenly you felt the presence of something behind you. You turned around to see Anakin standing there. You stared at him for a while, not sure what to say. What was there to say? Good to see you.  Probably not. You felt your eyes fill with tears, and you looked at the sky to keep the tears back. You should say something before you fall apart. Apparently Anakin had the same idea and you both started talking at once.
"I--"
"Y/N--"
You turned your gaze to the ground and gestured for him to speak. Anakin stepped closer to you, and you impulsively stepped back.
"Y/N, please let me explain." he said. You wanted to hear what he had to say, but you couldn't hold back the scoff that left your lips.
"Explain what, Anakin?" you snapped. "Explain how you killed a room of innocent people? Explain h-how you murdered younglings?" Tears were streaming down your face as you stepped closer to Anakin. "Explain how though all we've been through together: Through wars, through pain, through distance, you could muster up enough strength to kill your friend just because she figured out your secret."
"No, you've got it all wrong---" he said.
"Have I?" you asked, appalled. "Do you mean to tell me that the trail of death leading to you standing over those dead younglings, and then killing me was all a big misunderstanding?" You threw your hands up in frustration. "I was going to keep your secret. Yes, what you did hurt me, Anakin, but I wasn't going to tell anyone because I loved you." You paused for a moment as you listened to the words in the air for the first time. They sounded strange now, like they didn't belong there. And it felt like that because of what he had done. "I would've kept your secret." you repeated. "You didn't have to kill me!"
"I didn't want to!" he choked out. He looked at you, and you could tell his eyes were pleading for you to understand. "He told me it was the only way to save Padme."
You had lost your voice and you could barely get your next question out. "Who told you that?"
Anakin took a deep breath, knowing that no answer would be a good one. "The Chancellor," he said, ashamedly. Before you could say anything he began explaining again. "She was going to die, Y/N. I saw it. Padme wasn't going to make it through childbirth. I had to do something!" he said desperately. "He told me that you and I were meant to be together, and the only way to save Padme was to get rid of you."
"And you listened to him..." you whispered.
"It was the only way." he breathed.
After a long moment of silence, you furrowed your brow and brushed past Anakin.
"Y/N, please. I-I'm sorry I never meant for all this to happen."
You froze, but you didn't look back. "I can't imagine you did." You turned around and looked him in the eyes. "But now that blood is on your hands, and there is no way for me to help you." You walked away before he could say anything else. If you were going to live in the same world you'd have to talk to him again, but things would never be the same.

Luke and Leia vs the Galaxy
@silvereddaye
.Our favourite Space Twins against the Empire with varying degrees of success.
1. Legacy ---myrlendi (thehistorygeek)
Three months after the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker goes in search of a rumoured Jedi temple in a secluded part of the Mid Rim. He finds within the temple nothing but a strange artifact, which unexpectedly brings him much closer to the Jedi of old than he ever thought he would be.
When Luke fails to return from his mission, Leia goes after him, retracing his steps to the ancient temple — and to the past, to the time of the Clone Wars and the waning years of the Old Republic. Under suspicion by the Jedi Order, the twins struggle to find a way back to their own time while trying to keep their knowledge of the future from affecting the past.
This, however, turns out to not be as simple as it seems.

5. Great as the Sea-- Valkirin
Rescuing the last of Alderaan's survivors was an important duty, not an obsession, and Leia did not need to take a break. She did not have time to think about Darth Vader, the Force, or Luke Skywalker. It’s just her luck that the Force sends her with Luke Skywalker to a time where Darth Vader is about to rise.

6. turn my sorrow into treasured gold - cosmicocean:
“It might be better for you to die,” Obi-Wan muses as she holds her children in her arms. Padmé looks up at him and arches an eyebrow.
“I didn’t mean literally,” he clarifies.
“I know what you meant. I’m thinking about it.”
Padmé survives childbirth, dies as far as the rest of the galaxy is concerned, takes her children with Obi-Wan, and runs.

11.  Binary Sunsets, Binary Siblings - Coffeesforcatchers

Luke stared at the droid, his mouth open. "That's my sister!"

Vader had every intention of ignoring that petty—if notorious—burglar on Coruscant, until evidence suggested that this "Angel" had Rebel ties.
Meanwhile, Luke never expected his father to actively hunt him down, and he doesn't like it.
20.  the price of forgetting - surabayuh
Vader always thought that epiphany would come in waves; in the middle of meditation, perhaps, or a dream while he was resting, giving him unimaginable glee and satisfaction at its revelation.
He’d never thought epiphany would sledgehammer him here, at cell room number 2187, in the middle of an interrogation session, with an unconscious Alderaanian Princess laying on the floor.

(Note* Read the rest of this series seriously its so good)
21.  heirs of the desert -- surabayuh
There was something about her, something familiar beyond the hairstyle or the attire; It was like a hole in his chest mended back by her presence. They walked closer to one another, slowly, slowly—like a planet realigning to their axis.
Dreams of a different life, a different reality, haunting him for as long as he could remember. Dreams of lush greeneries, of clear blue waters, of a high castle, of a brunette with bright brown eyes crinkling with laughter.
Leia, her name was Leia and he felt like he had known her his whole life, as if he'd known her as old as he had known time.
Around them, the Force sang.

(Part of the  the bang the war-drums series)
22. taste the regret (it's bittersweet.) - surabayuh
Han Solo didn't want much, really; he only agreed to pilot his way away from the grips of Jabba the Hutt, and maybe have a little adventure along the way. That was why he said yes to that old man's offer, back in Tatooine, why he came back to aid the Rebellion, back in Yavin.
But then again, who knew that somewhere down the line, he would have to be the middle-man in a galactic family drama that could determine the very fate of the universe?
Well; certainly not him.

(Part of the  the bang the war-drums series)
23. Endings and Beginnings, and Everything in Between - ITookTheOneLessTravelled
Dad might be mad at them, but Leia doesn't regret it. Luke and Leia Skywalker might be only fifteen, but they'd never have left their Dad in an Imperial prison cell to rot.
OR: Anakin raises the twins. Everything changes, but also nothing does.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/6757639
24.  No Heroes on the High Seas - SpellCleaver
When Luke's aunt and uncle are executed by order of the Emperor's right hand, Lord Vader, he flees his home to search for his sister and the mother he never knew. But then Obi-Wan Kenobi stows away aboard the same ship, Vader gives chase, and Luke is dragged into a conflict that his family are at the very heart of.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/17092340/chapters/40194893
25.  Ad Utrumque Paratus - obeyingthemuse
It's hard to bring balance to the Force when the only method you've seen is your black-cloaked psychic cyborg sorcerer dad with a severe breathing problem throwing an old man down the Death Star reactor shaft. As much as Luke would like to see the not-yet-Emperor dead, he doesn't want to be arrested by his unusually attractive(?) war-hero dad and spend the rest of his indeterminate time in the past dropping Ewok beats in a jail cell. Also Leia would probably kill him. But not before breaking him out of jail.
So when the twins wake up on Tatooine decades in the past, they play it safe. They take over a planet, reconnect with their adoptive and real parents without weirding them out (too much), and accidentally cause the Chancellor perpetual near-death experiences.
Nailed it.

Anidala Fic Recs
I got asked for fic recs for these. NSFW will be in a private post (that I’ll make later GOING THROUGH YOUR AO3 HISTORY IS TEDIOUS) for easy DMing purposes. All recs under a read more.
So first for authors:
Just about anything by SkywalkersAmidala and Gemma’s Writing (@gemmaswriting)
Everything I’ve read by them is absolutely fantastic, and believe me, I’ve read pretty much everything from them. Multiple times in some cases. They’re just very good. SkywalkersAmidala in most cases writes more silly lighthearted AUs and Gemma’s Writing does a bit of everything, all of which are good.
Padme Lives/Anakin Doesn’t Fall:
(Anything on my Vaderdala fic recs list, you need Padme alive for Vaderdala)
Precipice by Shadowsong26
An AU in which Anakin Skywalker does not follow Mace Windu and the others to Palpatine’s office after they leave to arrest the Chancellor. As a result, he doesn’t get that final push over the edge, and doesn’t Fall.
(Padme returns to the Senate with Luke, Anakin to lead the Rebels with Leia. Things get better is the absolute best way to summary this one.)
To These Memories by KatieRoseFun
After Darth Sidious is defeated, everything changes. Some for the better, others not so much. Mostly better though. (Or: Anakin becomes a dad. Rex rehabilitates clone troopers who no longer want to be a part of the army. Ahsoka gets a call from an old friend. And maybe Obi-Wan finds out it’s not just his enemies who don’t stay dead. Basically, everyone gets the happy ending they deserve.)
Pocket Full of Sand Verse by Philthestone
Anakin goes missing, Padme is captured, and this causes Leia Skywalker and Luke Amidala to meet.
Clash of Fates by AliceBDS (In Progress)
Sometimes, the course of life is changed with one decision.
When Ahsoka Tano requests the help of her former master in liberating Mandalore, a twist of destiny sends them to Coruscant to rescue Chancellor Palpatine instead, altering the course of galactic history forever.
When Dead Men Walk by Ellapromachos
Anakin hesitates just a few minutes longer, and the entire galaxy is better for it.
or; Anakin is at the Temple for Order 66, but not as Darth Vader. And when Palpatine comes for him, he plays his cards just a little bit better. He digs his heels in, and prepares for the long con.
My Loyalties Lie by Stranestelle (In Progress)
When Anakin initially rejects Palpatine's offer to 'help' him, the Sith Lord, in a rare moment of hastiness, ships him off to Kamino to have a control chip implanted.
Nobody Needs to Know by Elizaham8957
The twins are born in the middle of the Clone Wars, and Anakin and Padmé try to continue hiding the fact that they're married and now have two children.
Nobody buys it. Like, seriously, nobody.
Hunter by Zinoviev
Leia is offered a chance to escape Bespin when Boba Fett enlists her help to prevent Luke from falling into Vader's clutches. She has plenty of questions, however. Who is this mysterious bounty hunter, and what does he want with her friend?
The Bantha in the Room by Estrangedlestrange
concept: anakin sitting in the council room bouncing baby luke on his knees as he adamantly denies having children or attachments
Time Travel:
Stand the Hazard of the Die by KeelieThompson1
Baby Luke is sent back in time by Obi-Wan to the prequel era. Needless to say, things change.
Just One Wish by LadyVader23
On a trip to Dathomir, Anakin Skywalker finds a spell that will grant him one wish. Anxious to return home, he wishes for a way to end the war. As a result, he ends up accidentally kidnapping his future children...moments after they've escaped Bespin. Luke is quite done dealing with his mess of a father, and Leia is convinced telling the future Darth Vader about the future will only make it worse. Desperate, Anakin calls in the only person they might listen to: Padme Amidala. Too bad Padme has a surprise of her own...
Temper With the Stars by Pipionem
After being pulled through the World between Worlds, Ahsoka finds herself in the final days of the Clone Wars, on a Separatist ship holding the recently kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Saving the galaxy from the horrors to come is a lot to get done in a week, but Ahsoka has lost everything before - this time, she won't let that happen. Of course, that doesn't mean it's going to be easy.

Mild AU:
Desideratum by Sithanakin (In Progress)
As a young Initiate in the midst of a childish crush, Padmé had always dreamt of Anakin Skywalker becoming her Master. But she was to turn thirteen too early for that to be possible.
Then, at sixteen, she loses her Master in the battle of Geonosis. In the confusion of all her grief, she does not expect newly-knighted Anakin Skywalker to offer to take her on as his Padawan.
The Wise Thing by Stranestelle
Warning: Very dark, not happy ending.
Padmé Amidala may not be all she seems. Anakin Skywalker wears his heart on his sleeve. People have crushes every day, it’s not the end of the world. Is it?
or, if you will, a sith!Padmé AU
Bonded by Betts
(Okay I’ll out myself slightly with smut but just one on my mostly SFW recs.)
Padmé had always been better at the mental half of the Jedi code—coercion, manipulation, meditation. Anakin had always been better at the physical half—beating shit up with his lightsaber.
Heirs to the Empire by Aldojlc
Alternate Universe. En route to Endor, Luke, Leia, and Han during the events of ROTJ find themselves transported into a different universe and a different Empire, with a different Vader.
Heavy AUs:
(it’s not so bad) being dead like me by Estrangedlestrange
Recently deceased Anakin Skywalker (killed in an taco truck explosion) finds himself not in the after life but recruited as the newest member of the undead, he’s become a grim reaper. He’s told that it’s his destiny but really he thinks it’s just rotten luck. Rotten except for the fact that one of his fellow reapers is Padmé Amidala, the most beautiful woman Anakin’s has seen, dead or alive. As he struggles to come to grips with his death and his new role in the universe, Anakin finds that taking souls isn’t the easiest job out there, he also finds himself falling in love.
Skyborn by Silverdaye
Senator Padmé Amidala enjoys spending her time in a bookstore, one made of real flimsi books where each one costs a small fortune. It is there she meets a strange man, Anakin Skywalker, who is searching for long forgotten planet, Kesh. 4,500 years ago a ship crashed on Kesh. The survivors told the natives they were their gods, the Skyborn. Anakin is one of them.
For Even the Very Wise Cannot See All Ends by UncorrectGrammar
When people think of Anakin Skywalker, they think of the Chosen One, the Hero With No Fear. They think of an accomplished duelist, of the best flyer in Hogwarts, of the prophesized savior of the wizarding world.
They don’t think of gardens diligently kept or dirt under fingernails.
Or: Anakin Skywalker and his legacy. Hogwarts AU.
General Prequel Era (Non Anidala Centric, but still contain Anidala)
Like Fire In Our Bones by AcuteNeurosis
With all of the most important things in the galaxy literally exploding around her, Leia is given the chance to go back and help keep a promise she never personally made.
But then, for Skywalkers, saving the galaxy was always a family matter.
Well It Goes Like This by Corde_and_Dorme
At the end of it all, the thing is: Palpatine breaks his heart.
(or the one where Anakin makes the hard choice, the right choice, the other choice. Then he keeps making it.)
Vode An by Epsiloneridani
There are millions of lives on the line, clone and Jedi alike. Every second brings them one step closer to the chip's activation - one step closer to the endgame. The truth is shrouded in secrecy and clouded by doubt. The clock's ticking down.
It's a race against time.
Fives is gone. Echo finds the courage to ask why.
Bonus: ObiAnidala
For We Are A Woven Thread; Find the Strand by Shadowsong26
The night before Obi-Wan was to leave for Utapau, he and Anakin and Padme agreed that, regardless of the Council's orders, Anakin should go as well. They split up over the course of the battle--and when Order 66 is given, they cannot find one another in the chaos; Padme, on Coruscant, is left with the knowledge that neither of them is coming back.
This story covers the next four years in their lives; how they survived and coped with the loss; how they began to fight back--and how they found their way home.

read me your life
ao3
For Star Wars Soulmate Month
Anakin has never been a fan of the whole soulmate-book thing. Some people found it romantic to be able to read all about their soulmate’s life before they’d met, but for Anakin it just showcased the worst years of his life; the years he spent as a slave.
As a child he’d wanted to burn his book, so his soulmate would never have to know that he’d once been a slave (he’d known down to his bones that he’d be free by the time he met his soulmate), but his mother had talked him out of it, telling him he’d never be able to find his soulmate without his book.
Anakin still thought about it.
He never read his book, not because he believed that only his soulmate should ever lay eyes on it like some did, but because every time he tried he felt the hot flush of shame and anger. Even the joy a soulmate was meant to bring was tainted by slavery, the one thing that he thought might be able to help him get through until he was free.
He hated Watto, and Tatooine, and the whole stupid universe that let him and his mother be slaves.
And then came Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who freed him and promised him training as a Jedi. Even at nine, Anakin had had some reservations, but the thought of being free, being able to travel the stars instead of being stuck on Tattooine won him over in seconds.
So he wins the Boonta Eve Classic and he gets freed, something he hadn’t known about until it was happening, Qui-Gon’s promise of him becoming a powerful Jedi seems in his grasp.
But he has to leave his mother behind. It’s the hardest thing he ever does, even later after he’s gone on several missions, even after he fights in a war, even after he has to kill the old man he’d thought was his friend but wasn’t, leaving his mother and not looking back remains the most difficult.
He almost left his book behind then, with his mother. Almost. Even if she couldn’t see the writing on the pages, it was still something to remember him by. But she’d refused, and Anakin had been strangely relieved.
He’s glad he didn’t when later, after the Jedi told him they wouldn’t allow him to be trained, after he blew up a spaceship, after Qui-Gon’s funeral, after being assigned as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s padawn, he checks his book, to read about the past few days, to remind himself that they were real and that he’s really free.
And he finds blank pages from the moment he climbed aboard the Naboo cruiser that first time. He’d met his soulmate. He’d met his soulmate and he hadn’t noticed. All those stories about sparks flying and knowing instantly were wrong. Anakin should’ve known. Nothing good is that easy.
His first thought is that it’s Padme, the beautiful angel, the Queen of the Naboo, Anakin’s first friend off Tatooine. But the timeline doesn’t add up. He’d met Padme days before his book stopped writing, but maybe that’s how it works? The only person he’d ever been able to talk about it with was his mother, who’d never met her soulmate and would never know unless they showed her their book.
Hers had been burnt when she’d fallen pregnant with Anakin.
Over the years he convinces himself that it’s Padme. He slowly chips away at all his doubts, refusing to back down. It’s Padme, it has to be. Who else had been kind and gracious to him, who else had made him feel like the most important person in the room whenever they spoke to him? No one. It had to be Padme. If it wasn’t Padme then who could it be? He didn’t want it to be anyone else.
He trains, he gets better, he fights with Obi-Wan and gets scolded by the council more often than not. But Obi-Wan is always there after, to apologize, to be apologized to, to hug and to take him to Dex’s. To reassure him that he’s wanted.
Anakin is sure he got lucky with his master. His fellow padawans always complain about theirs, and while Anakin and Obi-Wan clash over many things, they work well together and get along very well when neither of them are being stubborn. He’s glad, most days, that he landed with Obi-Wan instead of Qui-Gon. He gets the feeling that the other man had far too many expectations for him he’d never be abe to live up to.
Anakin never speaks about his soulmate to Obi-Wan, for all that he trusts his Master, he’s far too embarrassed to say anything to him about it. He doesn’t want to feel stupid anymore, and after his peers reactions to his inability to read, Anakin is hesitant to admit any gaps in knowledge to anyone at the Jedi temple.
So he keeps quiet about his questions and silent suspicions. He doesn’t want to be made a fool again. He waits in excitement for the day that he’ll be able to see Padme again and find out whether his decade-long suspicions are true.
And then he meets her again. He and Obi-Wan are there to guard her from assassins, and as he’s terrified as that time he’d accidentally kicked Master Yoda across the hall and into Master Windu’s face.
He’d had a rough time during his growth spurts and hadn’t been able to control any of his limbs, okay? He’s sure half the reason Master Windu hates him is because of that day. Anakin maintains that he should’ve dodged. What is the Force for, if not for sensing when a young teen with no control over their newly elongated limbs punts your weird-speaking toad boss at your head?
No, Anakin is not victim blaming.
In any case, he feels like throwing up, passing out and running away all at the same time. He’s about to meet his soulmate for the first time in ten years.
He sees Padme, and those feelings fall away. So does the feelings of passion and love he’s been associating with her for the past decade. Instead he just feels nostalgia for those fleeting days of almost-perfection when he’d first met Padme.
Something inside him tells him that Padme isn’t his soulmate.
He’s right, he finds out later. When they’re hiding on Naboo Padme confides that she’d thought he was her soulmate for the longest time, but had found out it was actually one of her newer handmaidens she’d met around the same time as she’d met Anakin.
Anakin tells her that he’d also thought she was his soulmate, up until they’d met again, but he doesn’t think so anymore.
They try to read each others books, but they can’t. They laugh at their childish foolishness and spend a few days fooling around and revelling in their lack of responsibilities. Anakin gets to meet Lorde, Padme’s soulmate and he revells in the way they fit together. Even if Padme wasn’t his soulmate he’s still glad she gets this.
And then Anakin dreams of his mother again and they leave for Tatooine. Anakin meets his step-father and mother’s soulmate and he rescues his mother. He barely stops himself from slaughtering the whole village, but his mother needs him more. And Obi-Wan would be disappointed in him.
His mother almost dies twice in one night, but Padme’s Naboo cruiser has very good medical supplies. Anakin gets to speak with his mother again, gets to hear all about how her life has gone and how happy she is with Cliegg. When Obi-Wan’s message comes through she encourages him to go help him.
So Anakin leaves his mother with a promise to visit when he can and he and Padme set off for Geonosis. They get captured, they escape, they get rescued, they chase down Count Dooku and Padme falls out of a ship and Anakin loses his arm.
The Clone Wars begin.
Padme gets married to her soulmate and Anakin is there at the small ceremony, hosted at the same place where they’d spent their last war-free days. Padme tells him she wants to keep it quiet, because Padme has a target on her back and has no interest in endangering Lorde
When he gets back to Coruscant Obi-Wan gives him a strangely sad look, but Anakin chalks it up to the loss of his hand.
The war rages on and Anakin gets knighted, far too soon in his opinion. Despite his chafing against Obi-Wan’s occasionally tight leash, he’s well aware that he still has a lot more to learn. Nonetheless, its still near the beginning of the war and they still get their seven days together after the ceremony, a luxury not afforded to newly-knighted jedi later on.
The war rages on and Anakin sees Obi-Wan a surprisingly large amount. They become the Team, the face of the war. They’re sent on large scale public missions together more often than not, and Anakin is glad for it.
The war rages on and Anakin gets a padawan of his own, Ahsoka Tano, though she’s as much Obi-Wan’s padawan as she is his. She’s far to young to be in war, but tragedy doesn’t care about age. It only seeks to inflict itself on whoever is most vulnerable. Anakin teaches her to be a Jedi, but he also teaches her how to deal with her emotions healthily. He wants her to be better than him, he wants her to suffer as little as possible. Obi-Wan shares this desire and helps in whatever way he can.
The war rages on and Satine dies, Obi-Wan’s soulmate dies and Anakin figures that if there’s any time to break their mutual silence on soulmates it would be now.
“I’m sorry. Losing your soulmate must be hard,” Anakin says, doing his best at trying to comfort his ex-master. He’d never had to comfort Obi-Wan before, if he’d ever got upset he’d always go and meditate. But not this time.
His comfort doesn’t seem to be very good because it brings a grimace of pain to Obi-Wan’s face and Anakin wishes he could travel back in time a minute to prevent that expression from crossing Obi-Wan’s face.
“She wasn’t,” Obi-Wan starts, “My soulmate. I was hers but. She was never mine.”
Anakin doesn’t think that makes losing her any easier for Obi-Wan. He wants to comfort him, but instead his stupid curiousity that he’s been suppressing for years comes to the surface.
“Do you know who is?” he asks and immediately wishes he could just erase this entire conversation.
Obi-Wan has a lot of issues that he’s repressed over the years. His feelings of inadequacy and fear of abandonment are well hidden to everyone except Anakin. Anakin knows how to recognise that in someone else, he knows those feelings well enough.
Which is why he notices Obi-Wan withdrawing into those feelings at Anakin’s question.
“Yes,” Obi-Wan whispers, “I’ve met them.”
Obi-Wan doesn’t say anything else immediately, but Anakin can tell he’s got more to say, so he waits in shocked silence.
“It’s,” Obi-Wan says, faltering. “It’s you, Anakin.”
Anakin blinks once, everything quickly falling into place, and feels like a complete idiot. Of course it’s Obi-Wan. He met Obi-Wan right when his book stops.
How had it never occurred to him?
And based on Obi-Wan’s sad but hopeful expression, his years of being an oblivious idiot have hurt his master.
“Oh,” Anakin manages to get out.
Obi-Wan deflates at that singles syllable, clearly misreading Anakin’s reaction. Before Anakin has time to fix his mistake, Obi-Wan opens his mouth to say, “I know your soulmate is Padme, but, well. If there’s any time to tell you it’s now. I finally understand how Satine feels. Felt.”
And if Anakin doesn’t feel like absolute garbage. Obi-Wan is already having a horrible day and Anakin has gone and forced him to bare his soul and
“It’s not Padme, it’s you,” Anakin says. Obi-Wan’s eyes widen. “I thought it was Padme for a long, long time. But. It’s not. Hers is one of her handmaidens. And mine is you.”
Obi-Wan still hasn’t moved, and Anakin decides to continue. “I didn’t realize until now, but I’ve been an idiot. My book finished writing right before I first met you. It never occurred to me until now-”
Obi-Wan hugs him. It’s been years since Obi-Wan has hugged him, but Anakin’s instincts cause him to bring his arms around him almost immediately. Obi-Wan squeezes him tightly to his chest and Anakin knows immediately that they’ll be fine. They’ll figure this out together.
They’ve always been the perfect team.

When Cody went to 79’s – which was very little – he usually ended up in a shared booth with Wolffe, Rex, and Maverick. Each of the boys would spend time with their respective squad before eventually making their way to the back corner. It had the best view of the whole place and allowed them to keep eyes on their boys without hovering.
“You look jumpier than normal,” Rex commented, taking a sip from his beer.
“He’s waiting for the Commander,” Maverick replied, covering his chuckle with a cough at Cody’s glare.
Wolffe raised an eyebrow, “Yours?” At Maverick’s nod he continued, “She’s the one that stopped a civil war breakin’ out by teaching them how to make bread?” Cody tried to keep a smile off his face – he could picture the scene in his head. “She gave General Plo Koon a whole basket a’ baked goods the other day. Should’a seen her face when he said he can’t eat that kind a’ food.”
“She’s coming to 79’s, then? She’ll be recognized right away,” Rex said.
Maverick shrugged, “She doesn’t wear her robes much, plus the rest of my boys wouldn’t hesitate to start a fight if anyone gave her a hard time.”
Cody gave a quick nod in Maverick’s direction. He had grown comfortable with the Captain – the man had a good head on his shoulders and worked well with you – and Cody was glad to have the Juno Squadron looking out for you.
Cheers erupted from the bar, and Cody watched as several men crossed the room in the direction of the entrance. “Speak of the Jedi and they shall appear,” Wolffe leaned back into the booth.
Cody followed the moving figures until he saw your familiar form. You were wearing simple, black clothes – your robes gone, just like Maverick had said. He watched you glow, your smile shining so brightly he thought his chest might burst. You greeted the Juno boys, receiving hugs from Bailey and Ziggy. A drink was pushed into your hands by Flare, grin on his face. It took Cody a moment to realize that you were staring back at him. You broke the gaze momentarily to say something to Salem, who gave a nod in response.
“Aaaaand she’s coming over.” Rex clapped him on the shoulder, “I’m going to grab another drink.”
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Wolffe smirked, leaving the booth with Rex.
You came strolling up a few seconds later, “Did I scare the party away?”
“It’s because you’re obviously intimidating,” Maverick answered, chuckling when you poked him in the side. “I’ll go make sure that Flare doesn’t start another fight.” He sent a wink at the two of you before heading to the center of the bar.
You slipped into the booth next to Cody, leg brushing his. “Hey,” you said softly, eyes catching his.
“Hi,” he murmured back. His heart leapt as you intertwined your hands underneath the table. You looked exhausted. “Everything alright?”
You nodded, swirling your drink in your hand, “Obi-Wan has had so many meetings with the Council recently. The Republic can’t seem to get anything done, but I can barely understand politics itself.”
“You’re stressed,” Cody offered. You hummed noncommittally, leaning your head on his shoulder. “You and Obi-Wan have more in common than differences I think.”
A snort escaped you, “Because we’re both stressed? There’s a war going on that I’m not sure we can win, there’s reason to be stressed.” You sighed, “Sorry.”
“There’s nothing to be sorry for.” He pressed his lips to your hair, relishing in the small content sound that left your lips.
“I just want us to be able to just talk about things other than what we deal with every day.” You pulled away from him, smiling, “Like what were you and the boys talking about earlier?”
“Besides the war?” You rolled your eyes, giving him a pointed look as you swiped his drink from his hand. “It was ‘clone-talk’.”
“Mhm, right.” He loved the little perturbed look on your face. Your nose scrunched and your lips formed a perfect pout that he had the urge to kiss off.
No, he hadn’t kissed you again. Not since that night at the gala a month ago. And Cody was pretty sure the tension was getting to him. Any moment he had alone with you was interrupted. Not that there were many opportunities to be alone with you at all. Cody prided himself on being a patient man, but when it came to you, it was all thrown to the wind.
“Maybe I’ll go ask Wolffe, I can bribe him with more pastries.” Cody knew your threat wasn’t real because you snuggled up closer to his side.
“We should get you back to your room before you fall asleep at the table.”
“But I want to spend time with you,” your voice was muffled by his shirt.
“C’mon Pip, I’ll walk you and that’s how we’ll spend time together.” You pulled back quickly, blinking at him. Your mouth was open in a small ‘o’. “What?”
“You’ve never called me that before.”
Oh. He hadn’t, had he? He had called you by your name, but never by the term of endearment that the Juno Squadron – and even General Skywalker and Commander Tano – called you.
He started to apologize, but you placed your hand over his lips, “You can say it. It’s nice. More than nice, actually.” You lowered your hand back into his. “Walk with me?”
He didn’t think he could ever say no to you.
-
“Ahsoka!”
Said Padawan yelped in surprise as you all but tackled her from behind. Laughter bubbled up between the both of you as she carried you on her back with ease. She let you down, ducking away before you could poke her in the side.
“I heard you’re heading to Ilum with the younglings?”
Ahsoka nodded, “Yep, we’re leaving in a few days. You and Master Kenobi are leaving tomorrow, right?”
“We think we’ve found a lead on Grievous,” you answered. “Which is the most good news Obi-Wan has had in a while with…Maul being back,” you had lowered your voice to a whisper.
“Anakin’s been a little weird too,” Ahsoka mumbled back.
“I’ve been a little what, Snips?”
The both of you turned to see Anakin exiting a room – which now made sense as to why Ahsoka was just lingering in the hallway – with an eyebrow raised and his arms crossed.
“She said that I am far better at Dejarik than you.” You sidled up to Anakin, nudging him with your shoulder.
Anakin snorted, “Right, I’m sure.”
“I beat Obi-Wan.” You blinked innocently.
“…you did?”
You gave Ahsoka a look, which made you both burst out into another round of laughter.
“Should I be worried you three are causing trouble?” Obi-Wan entered the hallway from the same room Anakin had been in.
“No, Master,” the three of you responded, similar grins on your faces.
-
You were pacing the small length of the escape pod, unaware of two pairs of eyes that were on you. Ahsoka had been kidnapped by pirates. You knew that she could take care of herself, but you cared for the other Padawan like she was your younger sister. But the younglings were stranded – alone – without help.
Which the two men watching you knew set you on edge.
Obi-Wan spoke up first, “We will go after her as soon as we are picked up.” You felt the calm that he was pushing in your direction, and you let it wash over you. You spared a glance at Cody, who still had his helmet on. As you finally sat down next to him, his gloved hand brushed against yours. It was his way of checking in, to let you know that he was there even though he couldn’t be more obvious about it since your older brother figure who was also his commanding officer was less than three feet away from you.
“Thank you, Master.” You sent a small smile toward the Jedi.
Obi-Wan was always wonderful to you. You remembered a little from when you were a youngling yourself. It was always when Master Qui-Gon would visit. Obi-Wan would join him at times and you liked it when he read to you.
It had surprised you when he had bumped into you – or you, into him – at the Jedi Archives just a few years ago. It had surprised you even greater when he had taken you on as his Padawan. You were grateful for reasons you could not even begin to explain to him. One of which was also in the escape pod with you. There were so many moments you had wanted to talk to Obi-Wan about everything with Cody, but you had seen what he thought about Anakin’s feelings for Padme. You weren’t sure if Obi-Wan knew about their very real relationship and just chose to ignore it, or if he was in denial. Not that Anakin was great about hiding it.
“They’ll be able to get us in about an hour,” Obi-Wan said, leaning back in his seat.
“You didn’t happen to bring a game of Dejarik with you? Maybe they stowed one away in here?” You grinned as both men gave you a questioning look. “I may have told Anakin that I beat you at it.”
Obi-Wan rolled his eyes, “Of course you did.”
“I beat you at Dejarik,” Cody pointed out.
You whined, “Yes but I beat all of the boys except for Maverick.” You pouted for a moment – the boys were glad that they had diverted your attention away from the stranded children – before your mischievous grin was back on your face. “So, when do I get to see the two of you play?”
-
A light ‘beep’ from your comms had you jumping up from your bed and unlocking the door. It slid open to reveal a de-armored Cody standing out in the hallway on the Republic Rescue Cruiser that had picked you up. You were in-route back to Coruscant with Ahsoka and the younglings in tow – all safe and sound. You had found a vacant room on the ship that gave you a bit of distance from everyone else. After spending some time with the younglings, you had sent Cody a message to meet you there later. Which was why he was in front of you now.
You grabbed his hand, pulling him inside with a soft, “Hello.”
“I slipped away as soon as I could, we never usually–” He was cut off by you kissing the Force out of him, his back pressed against the now closed door. His hands landed on your waist, a small moan leaving his lips. He pulled his head away, ignoring the small pain that goes through his skull as it hits the door, “Pip.”
“Shut up and kiss me,” you demanded, grabbing his face with your hands to draw his lips back to yours. You needed him. It had been something you were figuring out since your first kiss. Every time his hands brushed up against you or he sent you one of his crooked smiles, heat would crawl up your neck and make its home in your cheeks.
You knew that you loved Cody.
But wanting him was an entirely different battle.
And not one that you were worried about losing as you were ready to devour him. Cody gasped, and you realized the energy that was pulsating in the room. It was like how you felt in that small closet, no space between you – except this time Cody was feeling it with you. “Okay?” You mumbled against his lips, afraid to overwhelm him. His only response was to grab the backs of your thighs and lift you up so you could wrap your legs around his waist. You giggled, kissing him sweetly. He carried you to the small bed, sitting on it so you could straddle him. He ran a hand through your hair, running his thumb down the side of your face. His warm eyes were gentle, hard lines of his face softened into something that was just for you.
“I thought we were going to talk about it before we did anything else,” the words left his lips and you could tell he was almost disappointed in himself. You sighed, knowing that the logical part of his brain was correct. Everything with him just felt right. You started to lift yourself from his lap, but he tugged you back down.
You quirked an eyebrow, “If we’re going to talk, I can’t be sitting on you.”
Cody narrowed his eyes playfully, and you enjoyed the lightness that seemed to envelop him. “Am I that distracting?”
“Yes, Cody.” He finally let go, allowing you to get up and sit beside him on the bed. You looked at him expectantly.
“I-uh,” he cleared his throat, “you and me, we’re–”
“I care about you,” you said simply. It was the truth. There was much more to that, but you understood that Cody wasn’t great with words about feelings. “And I know that there are a bunch of regulations and expectations. But I care about you and I don’t want to lose this.” You touched his scar with the tips of your fingers, and Cody leaned into your hand.
“We’ll look out for each other,” Cody provided.
“Like we always do,” you finished, a yawn escaping you.
“You should sleep.” The deadpan look on your face had him chuckling and pressing a kiss to your forehead.
You easily switch from sitting to laying on the bed, “Stay with me?”
He was right.
He couldn’t say no to you.

Chapter 1 – Bedtime Stories
“Waaaaa-waaaaa” Baby Leia begins to cry.
Anakin rushes into the room, still rushing to throw on a robe. He knows he doesn’t have much time before…
“Wah-Wah” Baby Luke adds his cries to the chorus.
“Ooh” Anakin takes time to wipe the disappointment from his sleep addled brain. “Little one, lets see, you just ate. Do you need a change.” Anakin bent over to sniff the danger zone, and his face relaxed. “Nope. Oh I know what it is. He reached down to pick up baby Leia, knowing if he can get her to settle, Luke will soon follow suit. “We all know Babies need quiet to sleep. I only wished someone would tell that to the Force. I can feel it too, little one. It’s crying now, so many deaths in so short a time.” Anakin walks over to a rocking chair with Leia in his arms. As he talks to them the babies both begin to soothe. “I know it all may seem scary at this point, but if it wasn’t for that Force, you wouldn’t be here today.”
“It all began three years ago. I was with your mother, assigned to protect her, but I kept having these dreams. Dreams of your grandmother dying. I had to go. I had to find out. Don’t worry, I didn’t leave your mother behind. She came with me.” Anakin smiles at the baby. “When I made it to the Tusken Raider camp, and I saw the state she was in I wanted to kill every last one of them, I did. But then she opened her eyes, and I knew there would be no time for that. I picked her up and we managed to get back to the settlement in just enough time. She was badly injured, and bedridden for several weeks, but she recovered in the healer’s hands.” Anakin stopped to put the now sleeping baby Leia back into her crib. “Of course, I couldn’t stay there that long. I had to go fight in the First Battle of Geonosis, but we kept in touch.”
Anakin turned to discover baby Luke, still awake and fussing. He picked him up and went back to the rocker. “Obi-Wan and I had to rescue the then Chancellor Palpatine when he was captured over Coruscant. We managed to capture the Count Dooku at the same time. When we were up there Palpatine urged me to kill Dooku. I suppose that should have been my first clue of what was to happen, but I didn’t see it then. Not yet.”
“He didn’t last long in our custody, though. Dooku was assassinated soon after we handed him over. We never found out who, but now I believe Palpatine had him taken out to avoid him talking.”
“Though at the time I was a bit distracted. Your mother told me she was expecting you two. Well, we only knew about one of you at the time, but it was big enough news to shatter my senses for a while. Shortly after she told me, I started having dreams. They were like the ones I had about your grandmother, only they left me feeling helpless. It’s not like I could go rushing off to save her life, like I did before. I commed my mother to talk about the dreams that next morning. She promised she’d look into some things for expectant mothers and told me to have faith. The force wouldn’t show me that if there was nothing I could really do.”
“At the time Palpatine asked me to serve on the Jedi Counsel, as his representative. The Jedi wanted me to keep eyes on Palpatine because they were not trusting him completely. Boy, if I’d known what I know now, things would be different for you.” Anakin takes several breaths to calm his voice. “Palpatine told me that the Jedi were plotting against the Republic, and he tried to get me to distrust them. Then he told me about a Sith who discovered a way to cheat death. That should’ve been my clue, but at the time he was my friend. I didn’t want to suspect him of any wrongs.”
“It was only after this that he revealed himself to me. I ran off to inform the Jedi. It was the late Master, Mace Windu, who went after him. I wanted to join him, but he told me to stay in the temple instead. Said he felt in the Force that there was somewhere else I had to be. As I waited, I received a comm from your grandmother again. We talked again about the dreams. I told her the latest had Obi-Wan there during your mother’s labor pains.”
“Mother laughed at this. Said that was likely the issue. What does a Jedi know about delivering a baby. I brought up the stuff Palpatine had told me, about the Sith who cheated death, but she urged me not to do that. She reminded me that if that’s what it took, Padme would rather die. But she had another plan. She told me that she had reached out to the Tusken people again. To a group that doesn’t believe in using the radical methods the others do. One of them, she said, was a Tusken midwife who had experience in a lot of difficult births. She said they knew more about delivering a baby and supporting a mother than anyone in the Republic. It was then that I left the temple to get your mother to a ship and off to Tatooine as quickly as I could.”
“Before we were off we noticed smoke coming from the Temple, and I could feel the turmoil that you guys felt before. Your mother told me to go. Help who I could. She knew the way to Tatooine.”
“The temple had been raided by our own loyal army. Many there were killed. I barely got in unnoticed, and out with what few survivors I could find. Most of them children. That next morning, I found Masters Obi-Wan and Yoda trying to break into the temple again. I had to tell them there were none left alive. Palpatine was the Darth Sidious we had feared, and he likely killed Master Windu the night before. It seems he had all clone troopers ordered to kill any Jedi on sight, and he set a trap for them summoning them to return to the temple. Together we deactivated that message.”
“Then I got a comm coming through from my mother. Though Padme had made it to Tatooine, she was filled with worry. We hadn’t spoken since the previous night, when she sent me off into danger, and she was beginning to go into early labor from all the anxiety. Though I knew that Yoda was planning to confront Sidious, I couldn’t stay any longer. I left them and headed off to Tatooine.”
“When I got here, you little one, were near arrival. I rushed in and kissed your mother, then held her hand as she got another burst of energy. Out you came. Then two minutes later your sister came next.” Luke began to squirm and fuss. “Oh, don’t worry. You’ll learn to appreciate having a sister, one day.” Little Luke kept fussing, then Anakin wrinkled his nose.
“You didn’t. Did you?” He sniffed the diaper and made a worse face. He then got up and went to a changing table to do the deed. “Looks like someone needs a diaper change. So that’s how the force saved your lives, little ones. If I hadn’t saved your grandmother, she’d never have been able to save you two.” Anakin pauses with the bottle of white powder in his hands. A thoughtful expression on his face. “You know, I won’t be able to be around all the time. No, but when I am gone,” Anakin put three of his fingers up to point to his chest, “there will be a piece each of you in here.” Anakin glanced up to see Padme standing in the doorway to the nursery. “Always.”

Soulmates [Anakin x Reader]
Requested on Wattpad at StarkWars084
Word count: 3000+
