I decided to rewatch Obi-Wan Kenobi, and while it has its flaws, it was comforting to see heroes be flawed but still choose to do and be good. Obi-Wan as a character really embodies the magic of Star Wars for me and I will always love him dearly for it.
On the other hand, I also finally got around to watching Andor. I regret not seeing it when it was released. Andor has all the hallmarks of prestige TV. It also exemplifies the other side of the Star Wars universe that often gets overshadowed by the more popular overarching mythos centred on the Force. After seeing the first few episodes, I realised that this part of the universe is probably an interesting playground for creators, where they aren’t pressured by the existing parameters of the SW mythos. They can make their characters and stories as complex as they want without fear of criticism or retaliation, which is often what creators have faced with fans when it comes to beloved characters (or races, or institutions, or cultures).
I read that Andor’s narrative plays out more like a Cold War drama vs. say, SW’s usual mystical space opera, or even flashier spy thrillers like Jason Bourne or Bond. Which is a little ironic, since Tony Gilroy is the showrunner, but also not surprising given the people who worked on The Americans also worked on this show. How fortuitous, then, as I’ve been on a John le Carré roll lately, so this jump into this series in the midst of my foray in the espionage genre came right on time. Despite my love for the more quintessentially Star Wars-y parts of the canon, imo Andor is the best of all the series set in the SW universe that Disney has come up with. Criminally underrated, tbh, and honestly a million times better than the stuff out currently (and recently).

Weekend Top Ten #676
Top Ten Jedi
Sometimes I nurture these things like a big-time CEO in a 1980s movie would nurture a Bonsai tree. And sometimes I just kinda bash ‘em out. I’ll leave you to decide what today’s list is most like.
Anyway, I was going to do something vaguely Star Wars-related due to the launch of new TV series Skeleton Crew. This show looks great fun, like Explorers or Goonies but with a delightfully Star Wars twist; and it’s amusing that now Jude Law is having a go at being a Jedi.
Truth be told, I've fallen off the Star Wars train in recent years. I think it’s a combination of fatigue – so many different new things to keep up with – and the fact that they’ve had a couple of mediocrities. I really didn’t get on with Rise of Skywalker, and as great as I thought The Mandalorian was, I have to confess to being disappointed by both Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. In fact, I've still not got round to watching Andor, Ahsoka, or The Acolyte (which I guess makes me part of the problem now they’ve gone and cancelled it). However, i will make more of an effort for Skeleton Crew (and catch up on those other ones before the release of The Mandalorian and Grogu in cinemas).
So basically all this preamble is me saying that I hope I can start to feel enjoyment for all things Star Wars again. For a while there, it was a pretty huge part of my entertainment life; now, though, it has been utterly usurped by the MCU (and probably the DCU too). In fact – whisper it – I'm way, way more excited for Star Trek nowadays. Please, whatever you do, don’t go back in time and tell teenage me that. I don’t think he’d ever recover.
Anyway (again), one of the things I really love about Star Wars is the Jedi. I've said this before, but because we’ve got so many different outer-space type shows these days, it’s really the whole mythological thing that continues to set Star Wars apart. A sort of industrial/Wild West/used future thing, with bantering, wisecracking leads? You kinda see that in everything from Firefly to Guardians of the Galaxy and even – oh no! – modern Star Trek. But you add in some mystic, magic space monks with their sexy laser swords? Oh baby, now you’ve got a Star Wars on our hands. More of that please.
And that’s what this week’s list is celebrating; those pyjama-clad denizens of Force Goodness, the Jedi. They’re cool in the original trilogy, with their whole magic, thought-control, telekinesis, swordfighting schtick; but it’s the prequels that added so many fascinating wrinkles to the concept. The structure of the Order, their Byzantine rules, the way the Jedi comported themselves, and ultimately the fact that their adherence to old rules (as well as a dose of hubris) allowed the Sith to take over. And then there’s the fact that there’s, like, tons of them. One of the huge failings of the sequels in my view is that they didn’t lean back into the Jedi as a force (no pun intended); imagine an army of them fighting an army of Sith? That would have been epic.
Something else to note is that this list is pretty light on extended universe characters or those introduced in the “Disney era”. This isn’t a criticism; it’s just that I’ve not really seen, read, or played loads of that stuff. But in, I guess, the “core” Star Wars stories, there are plenty of really cool characters who embody lots of aspects of what makes the Jedi so… Jedi-ish. Unique, otherworldly, and just all-round cool. I mean, how many sci-fi or fantasy groups become so popular that people end up claiming it as a religion on a census? But, yeah, if you happen to be reading this and you’re a big fan of Mara Jade or Cal Kestis or, er, whoever they’re called in The Acolyte, and you’re wondering where your favourite character is, that’s basically it.
So there’s nothing more to say except “begun, this Top Ten has”. Sorry.
Luke Skywalker: yes, it seems like a basic and obvious answer; he’s basically the Jedi of the franchise. But that’s just it: he exemplifies all the best aspects of what the Jedi are meant to be, without the trappings or structure of the Order. He’s the prototypical boy hero, but just through his own inherent goodness he overcomes both the temptations of the Dark Side and the failings of the older Jedi. And then. And then! Older, wiser, and with failure hanging over him, he still manages to redeem himself, save everyone, and pull out one of the greatest feats of power in the whole saga. Basically, growing up watching Luke as a young man, then being a dad and watching him in sort of grumpy dad mode, is an incredible experience as a Star Wars fan.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: I like his as Alec Guinness’s wise old mentor in the first Star Wars, but really it’s Ewan McGregor’s take that seals the vote. At times pompous and arrogant, he’s also very human and empathetic, straddling a line between emotionless fealty to the Order and his brotherly love for Anakin. Plus he manages to be both a bit of an action badass, and also a sassy camp git: “Hello there.”
Anakin Skywalker: whilst there’s a whininess to him in the early years, he’s a brooding presence over the prequels. Also, whilst he’s a bit of a dick about it, his grievances are genuine: the Jedi are simply awful to him from the get-go. He’s also a war hero and a fantastic swordsman, and then he gets to become Darth Vader. And what’s more iconic and badass than Darth Vader? His whole arc – the fall and redemption – is the spine of the first six films and really needs to be celebrated.
Qui-Gon Jinn: the wise old mentor of the prequels, in a way, but there’s a humanity to him that’s lacking in most of the other Jedi. He might be the ideal of what the Jedi should be; dedicated to helping everyone, incredibly empathetic, but also serene, wise, and very powerful. If the Council had listened to him none of the bad stuff would have happened. Plus: he has a noble end. Not like that you filth.
Mace Windu: it’s almost all in the performance, but there’s a swaggering sense of badassery to Windu. He’s basically the Jedi’s number two, the second most powerful member of the Council. He has some great lines, a sexy purple lightsaber, and gets to chop off Boba Fett’s dad’s head. He’s just so cool, dammit.
Yoda: in a way it’s a surprise to see him this low! But he’s the mentor of the Jedi Order, who manages to be incredibly wise and venerable but also has a quirky sense of humour and iconic speech pattern. There’s a sense that he maybe understands the failings of the Order, how they’re sleepwalking to disaster. He gets an awesome fight with Dooku, and arguably the best scene in the prequels (“we are what they grow beyond”).
Rey Skywalker: the sequels are depressingly short on Jedi – so much so that the only new one really is Rey herself. But as the lead across the trilogy, she’s terrific; skirting a line between light and dark in such a way that we did all wonder whether there might be a (temporary) fall on the cards. she’s empathetic and sees the good in others in a way reminiscent of Luke or Qui-Gonn but also carries a bit of the arrogance and physicality of Anakin. She was, all told, a very charismatic presence in the films. I hope they do eventually manage to get her new film off the ground.
Kyle Katarn: ah, here we go – onto the expanded universe at last. It was really the games that drew me into the franchise in between trilogies, so it stands that the star of the Jedi Knight games would have a presence here. I like his arc in the games: he basically goes from being a Han Solo stand-in in Dark Forces to being a secret Jedi, combining the two best aspects of the original trilogy. I love his look, his voice, and his beard.
Ahsoka Tano: like I said earlier, I’ve never watched a lot of the supplementary spin-off shows – whether that’s the likes of Clone Wars or the newer Disney ones. But Ahsoka is a cool new character even in the ones I’ve seen, starting out as a young apprentice to Anakin. She’s full of spirit even back then, an excitable force of nature. Whilst the specifics of her leaving the Order I’ve not seen, when she reappears as an adult – older, wiser, perhaps a bit more world-weary – she’s remains a great character in a different flavour, doing that cool thing of combining the best of the Order’s teachings with a more humanist approach to the galaxy. Plus she has two lightsabers.
Leia Organa: she’s only this low because across the whole saga she doesn’t really do a lot of Jedi-ing. She clearly has a connection with her brother, and is just a generally empathetic presence. It’s only in the sequels that we get any proper examples of her using the Force – subconsciously pulling herself across space, and the flashback of her training. So, as a result, we don’t really get a real sense of her as a “Jedi”; but, look, it’s Leia. She’s one of the best characters in movies. She’s gotta be on the list.

40 Fun ‘Star Wars’ Facts For Every Fan in the Galaxy
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…Star Wars!
If you’re like most of us, you’ve felt a strong (but good!) disturbance in the force ever since Disney first started promoting the next film in the ever-expanding universe. The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters in 2025, and it’s sure to bring a fresh wave of Star Wars mania with it.
While it may be true that the constant roll-out of Star Wars TV shows has made franchise events somewhat less rare, a brand new big-screen film will get the galaxy buzzing.
To kick off what’s going to be a full year of hype and anticipation, we thought it was a good time to look back on the space saga in its entirety. To that end, hare 40 fun Star Wars facts every fan needs to know…
1. Mark Hamill Was in an Accident During ‘Empire Strikes Back’
Whilst filming The Empire Strikes Back (a near-universal pick for the best Star Wars film), Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill was in a bad car accident.
hile Hamill fortunately didn’t suffer any critical injuries, the wreck did leave him with facial scarring, which actually made it into the movie. George Lucas and Co. added the scene in which Luke is attacked by a Wampa in order to provide an on-screen reason for the actor’s face scar.
2. E.T.’s Alien Species Are In The Star Wars Universe
That’s right! The whole “connected universe” idea was around long before the big production companies started negotiating every possible crossover. Steven Spielberg (who of course made E.T.) suggested to his good friend George Lucas that a member of E.T.’s species called “asogians” should be placed in The Phantom Menace.
As a hidden Easter Egg and nod to Spielberg’s classic movie, three asogians were snuck into a shot of the Galactic Senate.
3. The Darth Vader Twist Was Kept Secret From the Actors
The revelation in The Empire Strikes Back that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker’s father is considered to be one of the most shocking twists in film history. And as it turns out, it was initially kept secret even from the actors shooting the scene.
Instead of saying the line, “I am your father” that would later be recorded by Darth Vader’s voice actor, James Earl Jones, the actor who physically played Vader in Episode V (David Prowse) was directed to say “Obi-Wan killed your father.” As far as many of the cast and crew knew, that was the line –– until the film came out.
4. George Lucas Was Fined For Not Using Opening Credits
Once upon a time (a long time ago in a galaxy far away, one might say) it was a universal standard for films to credit cast and/or crew at the opening sequence. This is still the norm, but it’s not as expected as it once was — thanks in part to Star Wars!
When A New Hope became one of the first modern films to neglect opening credits, the Director’s Guild was less than pleased. It fined Lucas $250,000, and in response, he resigned his membership.
5. Alec Guinness Was Never A Fan of Star Wars
Star Wars fans know Alec Guinness as the first man to play Obi-Wan Kenobi. His portrayal of a wizened, lone Jedi is truly iconic, and we can’t imagine it any other way. Yet when he first explored the role, Guinness dismissed A New Hope as “fairytale rubbish.” Despite that, the actor’s agent worked out a deal in which Guinness would receive 2% of George Lucas’ gross earnings from the Star Wars franchise. The Guinness estate collects Star Wars revenue to this very day.

Rumor: Is Yahya Abdul-Mateen Leading Damon Lindelof’s New Star Wars Movie?
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/fdedbf7aa947ece32e8d26c53eeafd42/e6e5fc74ee701d28-7f/s540x810/c502d8a121d122bade4ab82eac6c7faefd2c1257.jpg)
One of the recent biggest announcements from the world of Star Wars was that Damon Lindelof is working on a new movie. A movie set after the events of the Skywalker Saga. This would make Lindelof’s movie the first sequel, to the timeline of Star Wars content we have out now. Every single Star Wars show on TV is a prequel, given it takes place before the events of the sequel trilogy. Andor, The Mandalorian, and The Bad Batch— are all prequels. So Lindelof’s movie is kind of a big deal for that reason alone. But now there’s a new rumour about how Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in Star Wars could be a thing. If so, it’s another reason to look forward to Lindelof’s movie. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II In Star Wars Would Be Amazing The rumour or speculation comes from an episode of The Hot Mic on YouTube and its podcast feed. Hosted by film journalist and critic John Rocha and Jeff Sneider, the show has had many exclusive scoops in the past and news not covered anywhere else. As part of this, months ago, Sneider did tease that the Damon Lindelof movie would have potentially two leads, but one would be a Black male actor. Sneider also mentioned that the actor in question is someone who’s been in multiple film and TV projects, but has never led a movie of his own. When speaking in connection to Lindelof, and his recent appearance in the HBO Watchman series, Yahya Abdul Mateen II in Star Wars was a natural conclusion. But on a more recent episode, Sneider seemingly confirmed that that’s who he was referencing before. And that according to his sources, Mateen II comes attached to the project with Lindelof. No Official Announcement Made On Lindelof’s Star Wars Movie As of right now, there have been no official announcements made on Lindelof’s movie or its plans. We know it’s a sequel to the current Star Wars canon, taking place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. So it will be the first Star Wars movie that takes the story forward, instead of telling stories set in the past. And given that, it’s interesting to see who else might show up and maybe join Yahya Abdul Mateen II in Star Wars. We do know that Daisy Ridley, who played Rey in the sequel trilogy did mention that she is open to returning as the character in Lindelof’s movie. The bigger question may be if the other co-leads of the sequel trilogy, John Boyega’s Finn or Oscar Isaac’s Poe, will return as well. Given how vocal Boyega has been about the racist treatment he’s suffered during his involvement in the franchise, it seems unlikely. Especially seeing how Boyega mentioned that he received little to no support during it all from LucasFilm or Disney. Star Wars Fans’ History Of Racist Treatment Of Its Stars And speaking of it, even Yahya Abdul Mateen II in Star Wars must be aware of these issues Boyega faced. Not just Boyega, but even Kelly Marie Tran was subject to a lot of online abuse by a minority of toxic and racist Star Wars fans. More recently, even Moses Ingram’s portrayal of the Third Sister, Reva in the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series suffered similar racist abuse. So I can’t help but wonder how much of Lindelof’s story will factor these issues within the Star Wars universe itself. And that Yahya Abdul Mateen II in Star Wars may actually be intentional, almost as if in defiance of those trolls and toxic fans. For me, this rumour of Mateen’s casting actually makes me more excited for Damon Linelof’s new movie. Are you excited about Yahya Abdul Mateen II potentially being in a new Star Wars movie? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Read the full article

Obi Wan Kenobi episode 6 (that I’m gonna ignore as the whole series LOL)
I'm truly grateful to Disney that Hayden and Ewan were brought back to Star Wars and I don't think anything will change this statement. But I'm also so SO GLAD the Obi Wan Kenobi show finally ended and hopefully ended for good. No sequel(s), please, I barely survived this six episodes’ lack of common sense, narrative wise and unnecessary drama that doesn’t add much to established Original Trilogy, including the two duels between Obi Wan and Vader, dragging 10 years old Leia into pretty traumatic mess and Bail having like zero understanding how secrecy works? Sorry, not what I need in my (star wars) life.
Seriously, though the Obi Wan Kenobi TV series has its good moments and elements (hello, Third Sister, to some degree), it is another reason why Disney!Star Wars doesn't work for me. And yes, I'm aware that some previous animations, movies and other media weren’t always the most coherent sources in regard to logic and world-building (I mean especially TCW / Sequels, bear with my bias), but the whole deal of Obi-Wan's need to sacrifice himself for the rest of group so their ship had time to run away is so SO STUPID. There is a reason why TIE fighters are stationed on big ships, ya know? Tie squadrons should be on the enemy ship's tail from the start (and before anyone will tell me that Vader may have wanted to get Obi-Wan alive then shooting from main turbolasers would not work either. TIEs actually could disarm/damage the ship so that it can be boarded to take people in custody). Even when Obi played the decoy, Vader didn’t need to choose between Jedi and the “rebels” (not mentioning him choosing to destroy a civilian ship would be actually a better choice to hurt Obi-Wan, if he was willing to massacre a village just to get him last time?). Vader could board his own TIE / Lamba class shuttle and simply go after Jedi while leaving rest to the navy. I’m pretty surprised he wasn’t in TIE personally shooting the enemy ship but I guess, that way Obi-Wan would not have a chance to survive LOL.
Anyway, the start of Obi and Vader duel was pretty nice but then the show of course needed to go with destroying Vader’s mask and armor and I guess this was supposed to be the oh so big emotional moment? But that shock value meant something to me after the first or second time I saw unmasked Vader (and the first time was Purge comics, I think?) but after years of Disney/Marvel maiming Vader on every fucking occassion, I feel only irritation, leaving bad taste in mouth. Ahsoka did so in Rebels. Obi did it here. Comics did damage to armor like, at least once per every Darth Vader run lately? It doesn’t feel special. It feels like just standard Wednesday for Vader at this point. And after this supposed emotional closure in which Vader… suddenly doesn't blame Obi-Wan for Anakin’s death/own suffering??? (“I am not your failure, Obi-Wan. You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker. I did.) in contrast to the previous episode (I am what you made me?) but it doesn’t lead to anything really? I mean, yes, of course, they couldn’t make Obi Wan killing Vader in this scene but him walking away and leaving (again) dangerous Sith to terrorize galaxy for the next decade is so… I’m lacking a word for what it is. It only makes me feel definitely sure Obi Wan and Anakin should have never met between RotS and ANH and the last two duels were unnecessary and done only for drama. I understand why Kenobi didn’t (couldn’t) kill Anakin on Mustafar but here, him walking away and dooming galaxy is just so, dunno, selfish and fucked up?. But yeah, why not, the new hope (Luke) will be there to ask to finish the job LOL.
(Oh, and don’t let me start about how Disney/Marvel use Vader’s amputated, wounded body for shock value and the feeling of horror. I’m really, really tired of new canon maiming Anakin on screen and comics pages time after time.)
I also finally figured out why seeing Vader sitting on the throne bugged me so much. In previous episode(s?) it felt unusual (unnatural) for him to sit in anything beside his meditation chamber, or even to want to have a throne. But this time, when he is speaking to Darth Sidious, his Sith master? Vader sitting doesn’t make sense. Vader was usually kneeling or simply standing while talking to Palpatine. Here, him sitting set him as either equal or at a better position than Sidious and this doesn’t feel right at all.
Okay, I was ranting long enough to draw the picture that Disney!star wars doesn’t work for me, not in the context of established sources like the Original Trilogy. The Obi Wan Kenobi TV show demands of me too much mental gymnastics to believe in its narrative or logic, or even care emotionally for what is happening. I guess, if that was a stand-alone, not connected to anything else than RotS series, my feelings would be different but alas, it is as it is.
For those who enjoyed the show, I’m glad for you. Me myself is going to simply ignore it as much as possible, as I’m ignoring lately a lot other pars of new lore like chips in clone brain, domestic abuse in regard to Anakin and Padme, TCW’s portray of Anakin, Mandalorians with aristocracy and Darksaber as their main power symbol. Yeah, lately I’m pretty good at ignoring stuff.

You're free to criticize the Obi-Wan Kenobi tv show as much as you want but you can never change the fact this scene changed Star Wars forever.
Congrats to all the artists who took part on it and who thus left such a big mark in the history of the franchise.
[and omg, Hayden has monstrous natural charisma, George Lucas really hit the nail on the head while casting him😯].

I don’t know if anyone else is following the Star Wars drama on Tik Tok but I find it so polarising and I wanted to talk about it. It’s no surprise that there are widely different opinions on Obi-Wan Kenobi, when you have a show with this much hype its going to happen. What it seems to me is there is no space for comprise. You have the fans who are loudly proclaiming their disappointment, because they let fan theories, and what they built up in their head ruin the show for them. Then you have the other side of the coin who say any criticism is unwarranted because we should just be happy we’re getting Star Wars content and its not the show’s fault its not the story you wanted told.
Where is the space for people in the middle? There never seems to be any; it’s always you hate it, or you love it. But I find with Obi-Wan Kenobi, there are things I love and things I hate, which is the same for most shows I watch. I happened to really like the first three episodes, I thought the third in particular was fantastic but I'm with people who felt episode four was a let down. I agree that the “kidnap Leia” storyline has been dragged out too far and I’d have concluded it after episode three; but that’s just me.
I don’t agree with people who are saying Obi-Wan is a side character in his own show, or that the show is about setting up Reva and nothing else. We’re clearly seeing Obi-Wan deal with the trauma of Order 66 and Anakin becoming Darth Vader, which is all good shit. I do however agree that Hayden Christensen has been under used until this point and yeah that is disappointing in my books. He was heavily used in the promotion of the show (get that Mickey Mouse money Hayden) and yes, that may have given people the false impression that he would be in the show more than was actually intended. But I still don’t think it’s the fans fault for getting hyped and then disappointed when we know full well Disney knows what they’re doing.
I don’t agree with fans who are saying “we had Clone Wars, what do we need flashbacks for? You just want fan service and want to be disappointed.” I loved Clone Wars, but the reason I was excited for the show was because after 20 years, Ewan and Christian were coming back to play Obi-Wan and Anakin/Darth that’s what made me excited for the show, seeing these actors playing these characters again. So yes, I want a Clone Wars flashback, in a perfect world we’d get more than one because I’ve wanted a live action Clone Wars for a long time (I know I wont get it but still.) There is nothing wrong with fan service. Entertainment is a symbiotic relationship I had over my cash whether its to pay for a streaming service or a cinema ticket and in return the show is made. Both parties are getting something out of it; so why not want some fan service?
Don’t get me wrong I hate fan service for the sake of it when it doesn’t further the plot or makes no sense within the story being told. But in terms of Obi-Wan Kenobi, there is plenty of space to fit in fan service and make it make sense; and in rich the story and I think there is nothing wrong with wanting that. Obviously, I’m against the fans who send hate to the writers/actors because grow up at the end of the day it’s a tv show, the world isn’t going to collapse because you didn’t get what you want. But I think criticism of any show, is fine, I certainly don’t buy into the idea that we should kiss Disney’s ass because we’re getting any content because the Star Wars shows have been hit and miss up until now.
So this is a post for the people in the middle. We exist; its okay to love something, but have criticism of it, to wish things were done better and to be disappointed, we’re just not dicks about it. Anyone else feel the same?

What are your heretical opinions on the clone wars?
Gosh, I have so many.
In essence, though, I disagree fundamentally with the characterization, the worldbuilding, and even the show's premise.
I don't recognize the Anakin Skywalker of The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker, they're different people who respond differently to various situations, whose relationships with others are different from what we saw in the movies. Clone Wars Anakin experiences things that make him no longer compatible with the Anakin we meet in Revenge of the Sith. Same goes for Obi-Wan Kenobi, completely unrecognizable. They're both made cooler, more laidback and relatable, dare I say Western, hero archetypes that ultimately lack the essence of what make them Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
I do not forgive that Darth Maul was resurrected and question why they ever felt the need to do so. Darth Maul was left no venue of survival, and more, the character that Savage Oppress discovers in the cavern acts nothing like Darth Maul. Nice for The Clone Wars that they created a character that the audiences liked, but I wish they'd let Darth Maul stay dead, you know?
I disagree with the characters introduced in The Clone Wars, in particular Satine Kryze, Ahsoka Tano, and the Sith characters. The Sith are essentially made into people who were sorted into Slytherin, who do villainous things and are Bad Guys™, where the horror of what it means to become a Sith is lost. The show has Obi-Wan team up with Ventress for a fight, bantering playfully with her no less, I think that about says it.
I also have the apparently controversial understanding that the clones are mirrors of the droids, that is, not actually sentient beings. There's no sign of any chips in canon, Palpatine gives his order and just like that, they carry out Order 66. Now, this is a matter of preference, but this show failed on a very fundamental level to make me invested in the clones, instead I was battered over the head with repetitive clone angst. Had this show made the clones eerie beings that the Jedi trust but the viewers know they should be running from, I would have been much happier. But, that would be my preference, so my big criticism when it comes to the clones is not simply that they were sentient and so very angsty, but that the clone angst was so poorly done.
Then you have gamechanging events like Anakin falling to the dark side in a pointless arc that ended up not mattering at all. It's okay because he forgot about it. Obi-Wan knows this happened, but he never brings it up so it's all good. The avatar for the Light side of the Force died, this also affects nothing. All my problems with that will fuel a post of its own. Just-- my god, that show.
The Clone Wars reads as a fanfiction to me, where the characters have been remade into what the author wanted them to be, they have closer, easier, relationships than in canon(Yoda, while on bedrest, asks Anakin to break him out of the Jedi temple. Tell me that's not a bad fanfiction), their drama is contrived and gamechanging yet the author tries to insist it's all canon compliant ("Okay, so Obi-Wan faked his death, and Anakin's padawan that he has now had her life destroyed by the Jedi council, but it's still compliant with Revenge of the Sith because-- uuhh -- well, Anakin never in RotS said Obi-Wan didn't fake his death, did he? Check and mate."), and we have shiny OCs like Obi-Wan's love interest that Anakin knows about and Anakin's padawan.
Then there's the premise itself. By restricting themselves to the Clone Wars, the creators of this show put a lot of restraints on themselves, as they couldn't change too much and there was nothing that needed real explaining. 23-year-old Anakin is more self-assured and mature than his 19-year-old self while Obi-Wan and Padme are pretty much the same, good for him. That can't carry a TV show, though. And it didn't, this show spent four episodes on droids wandering in the desert and resurrected Darth Maul. That's not a show that has a lot of material to dig into, and makes me think they should have gone for something else.
These are my nutshelled heretical opinions.

I honestly don’t find Harrison Ford charming, like at all. Maybe because the recent interviews I’ve seen of him is generally him being freaking old but there are a LOT of old actors who have life in them. People find the “I don’t care” attitude of Harrison Ford kind of idk breath of fresh air and I’m like no I’d rather hear from an actor passionate about his or her own work, THAT TO ME is a breath of fresh air because to me celebs and actors are more interested in themselves rather than the work their in. It’s crazy how far Ford has gone when his general attitude to me ABOUT EVERYTHING is just “I’m in it for the money.”. It seems those are the types of celebs and actors who actually succeed in the world.
Compare that to Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen... though mostly Hayden, because when Hayden talks about star wars or any of the work he’s in, he’s really invested in the story telling and character he’s playing. He appreciates every one, even the characters that have set his career back. I mean I would think he would resent playing Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader much like how Natalie Portman had come to resent Star Wars and playing Padme, but he isn’t and it’s just so incredible to me. He’s so humble and grateful of the stuff he’s in and never shows this characteristic attitude shown by actors of how they’ve been wronged just because they’ve been in one bad movie that fans and critics have demolished.
Actors have it hard, but Hayden... all he did was buy a farm and move on with his life.
And he still talks about Star Wars, what a honor it was playing Anakin, and how much of a fan he is as well.
Mark Hamill is the same.
Man... Mark Hamill and Hayden Christensen are so underrated. I wish we saw more of the them, or that we will anyway. Mostly Hayden anyway. I don’t like how Mark treated Rian Johnson. Mark’s attitude in things with Star Wars seems more aligned with what the fans want, while Hayden seems to respect the creator’s vision while telling fans they can want whatever they want but in the end of the day, art belongs to the person who creates it and what they wanted their art to be. Art is a form of expression by the creator. It’s never about what your fans want, it’s about what you want to bring to the table.
Still both Mark and Hayden are FAR more interesting than Harrison Ford, whose name I just forgot just by talking about Hayden and Mark ONLY because those two can talk about the stuff their in and I’m invested. Ford on the other hand always seems like he just got out of bed and can’t find his thoughts whenever you ask him a question. Maybe it’s old age, idk. But like why in the world to people love actors who are just there for the paycheck?
I mean where’s the passion?
I guess life is just about working for the paycheck and we know actors get a buttload.
Can’t say anything about Ewan. I think Ewan takes his job seriously and he loves Star Wars, I mean he’s the reason Obi-Wan Kenobi became a tv series (even though I feel like the show was unnecessary, I love how it brought back the prequel love and I’m grateful for that.) Ewan is so damn likable, you can’t really say anything negative about the guy. I’m so glad his career has become so diverse over the years. Wish the same was for Hayden, but Hayden has been in some great some and I am sooo gonna bingewatch that shit, once I very very slowly finish some pages on my bullet journal, watch some youtube videos I have open and read some articles too lol.
I also need to start watching some movies on my movie list too.
And clean my room...
#so much to do#just wanted to rant because i saw a video on Harrison Ford at a Star Wars convention#I mean I don't have anything against him hating Star Wars#but I truly wonder#is there any work he has been in that he's genuinely proud of?#And I'm sorry but I don't sympathise with actors who resent their first work they were in that brought them to mainstream#I mean compare that to actors who've been destroyed by a franchise like Hayden who is still grateful for being part of said franchise#despite the ill treatment#and then you look at people like Ford and Jennifer Anniston and Johnny Depp who always say some neg stuff about their first work#or talk about how they want to separate themselves from that character or expand or whatever#like god it's just so self-absorbed and egotistic to me#sorry to judge#but like you are in the mainstream you are relevant precisely because of your first tv shows and movies#like be fucking grateful#i might be being stupid and harsh#but i just don't care for people who are careerists

It’s so weird to see them turn Darth Vader into basically Dio Brando without the fun of Dio Brando (ie: flamboyant personality, true villain status because we constantly cycle between Vader being an evil monster and a innocent victim of Sidious, god complex, etc).
Dio is an anime villain so he just evil for hell of it and it works with his character. Cut and dry, he’s the antagonist, they never debate this in the series.
Dio the kind of dude to just kill people for fun, but it works with his character. He is what I would consider chaotic evil.
Vader —up until recently—was what I would consider lawful evil. Yes, he does immoral things. But he wasn’t like Dio Brando who just kill people for fun—like he does now.
You can argue that he was lawful evil/lawful neutral even as a Jedi. It’s why Anakin killing the tuskan raiders is still debated on.
Because is it evil? That depends on your own personality morality.
Was it lawful? Yes.
Even when Anakin did that, it wasn’t like he did it for fun. He didn’t sought out the tuskans to kill them—an act that would have made him evil—he did it to save his mother who was being brutally tortured and killed.
That’s the beauty of Vader’s character, because while maybe being a villain in the story, nothing he did was unlawful. So when I see him murdering innocent villagers or something for fun it don’t make sense.
Because you have people saying “oh no Vader doesn’t understand that he’s on the side of the evil” but also they make him murder innocent civilians for no reason
So when I see Vader killing random people (not political terrorists because in the politics of Star wars’ universe, that’s what the rebels are) I keep saying “this is something that Dio Brando would do”.
I could understand them taking this angle if Anakin was shown to be a psychopath who kills for fun but even as a Jedi, he never does that.
Anakin/Vader isn’t Dio Brando, he doesn’t do bad things for fun. Anakin/Vader is someone who does things people would consider evil if it means achieving his idea of goods
Obi-Wan Kenobi: episode 3
Just in case, spoilers ahead!
It was fun to see Vader (double fun knowing it was Hayden) but good god I’m absolutely against the idea of him and Kenobi having any direct contact with each other between RotS and ANH 😠 What was this for? Just for angst and drama?
The duel itself was pretty good, I laughed how Kenobi decided to run away (it gave Jack Sparrow a vibe), only from the perspective of the story, it just spoils their last meeting aboard the Death Star in my opinion. And if they get together every episode or two, I’ll lose all respect for this show.
Besides, Vader murdering villagers just so is not the Vader I know from movies and other sources. Yes, he is capable of genocide, and he has murdered a defenseless population more than once, but it would have been different if he had demanded an answer / giving him the Jedi. And so, this show of strength was good for nothing other than to make our main hero suffer emotionally. Eh.
Also, I don’t understand how the Third Sister caught up with the escaping Leia. The girl ran through the tunnels half the episode and the Inquisitor still caught her so easily? In general, I don’t like Leia’s involvement at such a young age in the conflict between the Jedi and the Empire. Feels too much too fast, instead of letting her grow up into seeing the flaws and crimes of Empire of her own. Good damn, give Leia a good (safe) childhood, she has the rest of life full of pain and loses to endure, she doesn’t need to witness people dying / see the corpses at such young age.
On the plus side, little Leia was fun to watch and it was also nice to see stormtroopers acting like humans when they hitchhiked. Admittedly, I am surprised that of all the planets they mentioned Jabiim, because it’s a planet where some indigenous peoples thought Jedi were eating children, and after what happened during the Clone Wars, it’s one of the last places I would send a Jedi.
I’m not going to stop watching this show just yet, but it hasn’t impressed me so far.
