#obey me events

This spontaneous post is my way of coping with Obey Me!'s constant back-to-back events. They're all starting to blur together in my memory. ;u; ---

Lucifer frowned. His eyebrows were furrowed in displeasure as he announced, "we have a situation."

You rolled your eyes. There was always a situation. One of his brothers was always causing trouble for somebody. "What is it now?"

"Come with me. I'll explain as we walk."

You were rather preoccupied, your favorite show was starting soon and for once you wanted to watch it live. It wasn't fair you always had to clean up somebody else's mess.

You implored Lucifer, "can't you just tell me now? On a scale of, like, 'somebody is trying to skin Mammon for selling snake oil' to 'the three realms as we know them are going to be annihilated,' how bad are we talking?"

After a huff of impatience, Lucifer came up with an impressively succinct explanation. "A slumbering water spirit in the palace gardens has awoken for the first time in ten millennia and is threatening to drown the entire Devildom unless it speaks to you, so hurry up."

So this was a true disaster. You asked, "Why me? Isn't it literally Diavolo's job to protect the Devildom?"

"Yes. He tried to, but seeing as you are the embodiment of all that we love and hold dear, the spirit is more interested in speaking with you."

"How exactly does the spirit know about me? Can it read minds?"

The furrow between Lucifer's eyebrows deepened by the second. "Lord Diavolo wouldn't stop gushing about you in front of the spirit. He couldn't help himself. Even Barbatos chimed in with words of adoration."

"Did you gloat about me too, Lucifer?" Such snark showed how unphased you had become in the face of crises that only you could resolve, but Lucifer did not find it amusing.

He didn't deny it. He simply said, "if you don't get moving, the spirit will probably come and hunt you down. Which I'd greatly like to avoid, along with a massive flood."

You groaned and rose to your feet with reluctance. Better get this over with so the TV doesn't get destroyed. "You said this water spirit's been asleep for eternity, but I swear this exact same thing happened last month, too."

Lucifer was quick to correct the record as he draped a jacket around you. "That was an ancient magic flower."

The entire Obey me fandom moved on from the vampire event that happened a while back (you can unlock it in lonely devil.

Here are some highlights from it since I can’t include the whole scene.

Man, I wish the devs took events seriously and actually used them to further develop the characters instead of always going for the underwhelming silly and repetive storylines.

I mean, even when the overall premise is good and has potential to be actually interesting they manage to take the most boring route with it, like the flower event with the whole "there's a powerful entity trying to delete MC from existence like they were never there in the first place" "here's how the cast's lives would look like if they had never met MC/MC didn't exist" thing that could've been made way way more compelling and entertaining to play through if they had taken the story more seriously, explored these ideas more, and again: used it for character development.

But instead they waste the potential on the same tropes executed the exact same way over and over again.

The Scroll of Thirst. Are they even serious with this?

Is it supposed to be a pun? Like we know you guys are thirsty but also you're in a desert? I just...

ANYWAY.

I have thoughts about this event.

It isn't a spotlight event. It doesn't say it's spotlighting anybody. But this event was very much Solomon centered. So why aren't they saying it's a spotlight event for him? I honestly feel like he got more of a spotlight in this event than other characters have had when they were listed as spotlights. I just don't understand the distinction?

Okay so the story of this event was obviously just an excuse to let you kiss Solomon at the end. And listen I'm not exactly COMPLAINING about that lol.

Actually, I liked the set up. The sorcerer who wrote the scroll recreating his story because he didn't know that his lover was unable to save him and all that? So tragic! So romantic! Now MC and Solomon have to stand in for them!

Though the shorter route was complete nonsense I am always here for Diavolo and Barbatos being completely ridiculous. Also Barb in that outfit is just... dlkfsajdfklf.

This happens right after Barbatos realizes he has to hold Solomon's hand lol. I love him so much.

And I know we've all seen the screenshot of Solomon's response when MC asks him if he's done anything evil lately. Like c'mon man, you're not helping your own case here.

However, it does make me wonder if they deliberately created an event like this in an attempt to indicate that Solomon, despite being perceived as evil by everybody, is not actually evil at all and is in fact completely innocent. I mean in the context of the main game. I know I myself have been like I dunno... he's acting suspicious... and I just felt like this event was yelling at me to knock it off lol. Like okay I can take a hint! Not that it'd take much convincing because I'm obviously in love with Solomon, so. There's that.

Anyway, this event was enjoyable for a Solomon lover like myself. And even if that wasn't the case, Barbatos in that outfit would have made it all worth my while lol.

I mean I obviously had to write something about this event, right? My true love Barbatos is the spotlight.

Spoilers below the cut!

I wasn't sure what to expect from this Fangol event with Barb as the spotlight, but it certainly wasn't a sentient sports ball named the Glorious Devil Ball.

And then in the shorter route you basically had to play matchmaker for a couple of balls??

I just... it was so... I mean... what...

Also, I hear everybody who's been saying that the event themes don't make sense for the character spotlights. Beel absolutely should have been involved in a Fangol event! He hasn't even had a spotlight event, I don't think...? Huh, I don't think Belphie has, either??? I can't remember for sure now, but it seems like it hasn't happened yet.

I did like how involved our three newbie characters were! I love Thirteen and I'm quite fond of Raphael. Mephisto is slowly growing on me, though I loved the way Barbatos was just not impressed at all.

Honestly, most of this event was just nonsense as far as I'm concerned... chasing around a ball with feelings? It doesn't like being a decoration? It's scared of rowdy students?? I mean, okay, it's kinda cute, but also what?

It did allow for some entertaining stuff, though. Particularly from Levi...

Levi, please. I can't handle this level of nonsense.

And okay, I have to include this:

I know she was talking about the balls, okay?! I know! But out of context, it sounds like she means her and MC, right??? I was like yes. YES WE ARE.

But truly, the Barbatos interactions were the best part of this event by far. I was upset about the fact that we didn't get to kiss him at the end, though. His little confession note was so cute. And honestly I felt like they explained the reason he was spotlighted for a Fangol event fairly well, even if I think they should've just let it be Beel. Barbatos organized the event for Diavolo because he wanted Diavolo's dream of unity to come true. Like... of course he did.

He says it so casually. I love when he's just straight up honest like that.

And of course this entire part I nearly lost my mind:

OKAY?!

When did this go from being a silly sentient balls Fangol event to being a commentary on the way Barbatos sees himself and how that's changed because of MC?!

I mean, think about what he is saying here! Barbatos has always been so extremely dedicated to Lord Diavolo, like that is his whole reason for living. And he's saying that MC has given him the opportunity to see something in himself outside of that? That MC came around and he was like huh maybe there is more to life than the Young Master... like?! And then he follows that up with that message?! At this moment, I am no butler!! It's just really bringing home that point again. Being a butler is like his whole persona, but when he's with MC, he gets to just be himself. He gets to just be a demon who loves you. Please, my heart can't take it.

I have to say, I was not expecting this ending at all. The rest of this event was so ridiculous and then they hit us with this at the very end?! And then we don't even get to kiss him?! I just... what!

Okay, I'm sorry I just had to rant about it because I can't help it when it comes to Barbatos lol. He is forever my favorite. I apologize for all of the !? that went on in this post lol.
