HURRICANE HAX CRASHES BRIAR RIDGE SUMMER MUSIC FEST
On Sunday afternoon, gale-force winds and torrential rain abruptly brought the Summer Music Fest to a halt. Unfortunately, Kacey Musgraves, as the headlining act, wasn't able to get a flight to Briar Ridge in time, due to the weather. With a hurricane warning issued, first responders swiftly shut down the event, urging everyone to seek immediate shelter at Oakland Elementary and Middle School. Upon arrival, everyone was sent to the gymnasium as their gathering point to wait out the storm. First responders assigned various tasks to volunteers to help keep things organized and to divide up the work needed to make sure everyone stayed safe.
OOC DETAILS
Okay, so here's the thing, this is rp. And therefore we are taking some creative liberties with how realistic this will be. So please keep that in mind. If you have experience with hurricanes and any part of this is wildly unrealistic, please bear with us! lol
With that being said, please do not start hurricane threads or reference the hurricane in threads before Friday, Aug 30th. We're posting now so that people have time to plot in advance, but we also wanted to ensure that everyone had time to start just festival related threads first.
Since it is hurricane season in South Carolina, the town has long set out plans for hurricane warnings and the school has been prepared to be the gathering point in cases like this where large amounts of the Briar Ridge population aren't at home and can't get home easily. Therefore, the school is stocked up on supplies and tools to help secure the building and keep Briar Ridge citizens safe.
If you would like to say that your character was injured in the rush to get to the school, or becomes sick during the time that they are stuck in the school because of getting drenched by the cold rain, please run your idea by the admin team by sending an IM to the main! We can't have everyone incapacitated lol We also ask that you take into consideration your character's task (described in the next point & assigned in the discord server) before deciding on the extent of the injury, so as to avoid making it impossible for them to finish their task (I.e. please don't give your character a broken leg if they're going to have to walk around the whole school boarding up windows lol). Once we have approved your character being sick or injured, please make sure to use appropriate trigger warnings.
Every character will be paired up with one other character and given a task once they arrive at the school. Your character(s) can still interact with other people in the school, but we ask that each pairing give priority to and at least begin their task thread while the event is still ongoing.
These tasks can be as detailed as you would like to make them, we've listed some examples in the server of things your characters could do, but you don't strictly need to do that. If you think of something else within your assigned task category, please feel free to write it out instead!
Your task threads don't have to be long or last throughout the entire time everyone's stuck in the school. This is just a chance to get random characters to interact and hopefully get threads going with new writers!
The festival goers will be stuck at the school for 24 hours from when the hurricane warning was issued (unbeknownst to them of course!). If your character has family members, pets, etc. at home, feel free to include anxiety over their safety in your characters threads, but maybe there's someone else already taking care of them? We don't want to create REAL issues for your characters' loved ones!
After having been at the school for several hours, the electricity will go off at 10pm and won't come back on until mid morning the next day, a few hours before they're all allowed to go back home.
Please feel free to get creative with this! We're excited for this as we think it's a fun opportunity to pair up characters who might not have interacted otherwise even outside of the tasks!
If you have any questions, please direct them to the event channel in the discord server!

The documentary was accompanied by its very own soundtrack HOPE ON THE STREET VOL. 1 – a six-track EP, which sees j-hope team up with a number of different artists, this includes fellow BTS member Jungkook, as well as benny blanco, Nile Rodgers, LE SSERAFIM‘s HUH YUNJIN, Gaeko, and YOON MIRAE. It was released on March 29, 2024, a day after the documentary’s premiere.
Prior to his military enlistment, j-hope marked a major milestone in his solo career by making history as the first-ever Korean artist to headline Lollapalooza last July 2022. His headlining appearance at the major American festival was covered in his first documentary j-hope IN THE BOX, which also recounted his time bringing his debut album Jack In The Box to life.

SEE: Alt Rock | King Krule - “Flimsier” + Tour
Tumblr media
King Krule releases “Flimsier,” the opening track from his highly anticipated forthcoming album Space Heavy, which gets a full release this Friday via Matador Records. The new single comes alongside a visualizer created by Archy’s long-time collaborator and brother, Jack Marshall. “Filmsier” is the final single to be revealed from Space Heavy, following the acclaimed singles “Seaforth” and “If Only It Was Warmth.” The track first sparked a frenzy in fans last year, when King Krule debuted it during his performance at Primavera Sound. Then again, when it resurfaced via exclusive flexi-discs sold at King Krule’s SHHH Tour in April - an intimate run of shows across the US, UK, and EU that sold out in under 2 minutes. The single became a fan favourite, racking up hundreds of thousands of streams via fan videos on YouTube. After a year of waiting, “Filmsier” gets an official release today. On Friday of this week, King Krule will release Space Heavy in full. The 15-track full-length inhabits the deepest reaches of the subterranean sonic world that Archy Marshall has constructed over the course of his career as King Krule. Written over the course of commutes between London and Liverpool, where Archy was splitting his time, he found himself fascinated by the notion of “the space between”; the space haunted by dreams of love, lost connection, losing people and situations to the guillotine of the universe. Once written by Archy, the music was developed by frequent collaborator Dilip Harris and long-time band mates Ignacio Salvadores (Saxophonist), George Bass (Drummer), James Wilson (Bass Guitarist) and Jack Towell (Guitarist). The result sees King Krule stepping into the height of their artistic powers; using his years of experience to create a dynamic body of work that reveals something new with every listen. See “Flimsier” below: Upcoming Tour Dates: North America: 7/21 - Minneapolis, MN @ First Ave 7/22 - Chicago, IL @ Pitchfork Musical Festival 7/23 - Detroit, MI @ Masonic Temple Theatre 7/25 - Toronto, ON CAN @ History 7/26 - Montreal, QC, CAN @ Corona Theatre (SOLD OUT) 7/28 - Boston, MA @ House of Blues 7/29 - Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club (SOLD OUT) 7/30 - Philadelphia, PA @ Union Transfer (SOLD OUT) 8/1 - Brooklyn, NY @ Kings Theatre (SOLD OUT) 8/2 - Brooklyn, NY @ Kings Theatre 9/8 - Atlanta, GA @ The Eastern 9/9 - Nashville, TN @ Brooklyn Bowl 9/11 - Houston, TX @ White Oak Music Hall 9/12 - Austin, TX @ Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater 9/13 - Dallas, TX @ House of Blues 9/15 - Denver, CO @ Ogden Theatre 9/16 - Salt Lake City, UT @ The Depot 9/18 - Portland, Oregon @ Roseland Theatre (SOLD OUT) 9/19 - Vancouver, BC @ Malkin Bowl 9/20 - Seattle, WA @ Paramount Theatre 9/23 - Oakland, CA @ Fox Theater 9/24 - Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood Palladium 9/25 - Los Angeles, CA @ Hollywood Palladium (SOLD OUT) Europe: 10/4 - Dublin, Ireland @ Olympia (SOLD OUT) 10/6 - Glasgow, UK @ Barrowland 10/7 - Manchester, UK @ Academy (SOLD OUT) 10/9 - London, UK @ London Eventim Apollo (SOLD OUT) 10/10 - London, UK @ London Eventim Apollo 10/16 - Amsterdam, Netherlands @ Paradiso (SOLD OUT) 10/17 - Amsterdam, Netherlands @ Paradiso 10/18 - Antwerp, Belgium @ De Roma 10/19 - Brussels, Belgium @ AB 10/21 - Cologne, Germany @ Carlswerk Victoria 10/23 - Copenhagen, Denmark @ Vega (SOLD OUT) 10/24 - Copenhagen, Denmark @ Vega 10/26 - Berlin, Germany @ Columbiahalle 10/27 - Prague, Czech Republic @ Forum Karlin 10/28 - Vienna, Austria @ Simm City 10/30 - Budapest, Hungary @ Akvarium Klub 10/31 - Liubljana, Slovenia @ Kino Siska 11/1 - Zagreb, Croatia @ Tvornica Kulture 11/3 - Lausanne, Switzerland @ Les Docks 11/4 - Turin, Italy @ Club to Club Festival 11/6 - Paris, France @ Trianon (SOLD OUT) 11/7 - Paris, France @ Trianon Read the full article

Life In Alameda, California: The Best City You've Never Heard Of
Alameda, California, is a small city located on an island in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's situated between Oakland and Berkeley, with San Francisco just across the water. Alameda is also known for its great weather due to its proximity to both ocean breezes coming off San Francisco Bay as well as inland hills that block out most rain clouds coming from inland California cities like Sacramento or Fresno which can sometimes cause heavy rainfall throughout those areas during certain months throughout each year.
Tumblr media
Alameda, California is a waterfront town known for its great weather and laid-back lifestyle.
Alameda is a small island city in the San Francisco Bay Area. It's known for its great weather and laid-back lifestyle, as well as its parks and open spaces. The city has been home to some big names over the years, including Tom Hanks and Huey Lewis (of Huey Lewis & The News).
If you're looking for somewhere new to live but want something different from your typical urban environment, Alameda might be just what you need!
It's also the starting point of the Pacific Flyway route.
The Pacific Flyway is a migration route for birds that stretches across North America. The route runs from Mexico to Alaska, and Alameda is one of its most important starting points. This means that many birds that fly from South America to Canada or even as far as Russia will stop here on their way through.
You can see this in action by visiting the Alameda Creek Regional Park on Sunday mornings between November 1st and April 30th; there are usually around 15 different species of bird in attendance at any given time!
Alameda has an active arts community and hosts several art events throughout the year.
Alameda has a rich history of art and culture. The city is home to numerous galleries, museums and performance venues, which showcase the work of local artists. Some artists have made Alameda their home, including painter Judith Gail Blumberg and sculptor Robert Arneson (a former professor at UC Davis).
The arts community here is vibrant and active: The Alameda Arts Council organizes annual events such as Art & Soul Weekend in May; Art Around Town every October; First Friday Art Walk in November; Festival Alameda in February; Open Studios Tour in April-May; plus many smaller events throughout the year!
This city has a rich history and many famous people.
Alameda has a rich history and many famous people have called it home over the years, including President Gerald Ford. The city's population is multicultural and diverse, with people from all over the world calling this small island home.
Alameda was founded in 1853 by Horace W. Carpentier as a landing for boats traveling between Oakland and San Francisco Bay. He named his town Alameda due to its location on an estuary of that name; however, there are other possible origins for the name (such as Spanish or Portuguese).
Alameda may seem like it would be too quiet
Alameda is a small island in the San Francisco Bay, about 10 square miles in size. It's known for having a laid-back lifestyle and great weather. If you're looking for an alternative to living in San Francisco with all its hustle and bustle, then Alameda may be more your speed!
There are lots of activities to do here: hiking, biking and walking along the waterfront are just some of them. And if you like food trucks (or even if you don't), this city has plenty of those too!

California Restaurants Guide – Everything You Should Know
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just moved to California? Perhaps you’re visiting for the first time with a long weekend in front of you and you want to find some delicious food.  Whatever the case, here are some of the California restaurants you should definitely check out for a great dining experience.
Must-Visit California Restaurants
Tumblr media
Hotville Chicken Hot chicken is a big deal in Southern California. There’s even a citywide festival celebrating the popular California cuisine.  If you’re in LA, head to Hotville Chicken for a taste of this super-hot, crunchy, and crimson fried chicken. The spot is owned and run by a member of the Prince family – the original creators of the iconic and incredible hot chicken.  And while you’re here, don’t forget to grab a banana cream pudding or hot fish sandwich. Location 4070 Marlton Ave.  LA, CA 90008 Hours  12:00 am – 7:00 pm Tuesday to Sunday (closed Mondays) Cotogna When it comes to California restaurants that make exquisite pasta, there is Cotogna, and there are others.  This spot celebrates Italian cuisine, so if you’ve always wanted to eat great Italian meals, here’s your chance. You’ll find some of the most praised Italian vintage wines, too! Location 490 Pacific Avenue San Francisco, CA 94133 Hours 11:30 am – 2:30 pm, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Wednesday – Friday 11:30 am – 9:00 pm Saturday   Hog Island Oyster Co. Hog Island serves shucked ice-cold oysters – salty, sweet, and briny; the restaurant produces unique oysters and other seafood. The scenic oyster farm boasts barbecues and picnic areas. Plus, it has a bar stocked with exotic wine and beer.  Want outdoor seating? Make reservations if you prefer a picnic table. Whatever you do, remember to bring sunscreen and a jacket. The weather here can change very quickly! Location 20215 Shoreline Highway, Marshall, CA 94940 Location 9:00 am – 5:00 pm daily    Sonoratown The best taco in town is largely a matter of personal opinion, and for us, Sonoratown makes some of the tastiest tacos in Downtown LA.  This small taco spot makes all of its flour tortillas in-house with lard, and they melt in your mouth!  Consider opting for the Caramelo taco – it is larger than the regular size and comes with avocado, cabbage, and salsa Roja toppings.  Location Downtown LA 208 E. 8th Street Los Angeles, CA 90014 Hours 11:00 am – 9:00 pm Monday – Thursday 11:00 am – 10:00 pm Friday & Saturday 11:00 am – 9:00 pm Sunday
Tumblr media
Brown Sugar Kitchen If you prefer organic and locally grown ingredients, Brown Sugar Kitchen has plenty of those on its menu. Own and operated by Chef Tanya Holland, the restaurant boasts Southern-style brunch classics, including its unique fried chicken with cornmeal waffles, Creole barbecue shrimp, and cheese grits. Location 2295 Broadway  Oakland, CA 94612 Hours 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm Wednesday & Thursday  12:00 pm – 8:00 pm Friday & Saturday    El Molino Central Located near Sonoma Highway, El Molino Central is an excellent taco stand and bar. Dine-in or take out some of the best Mexican dishes, including mouthwatering tamales, fish tacos, enchiladas, bean-filled tortillas, and more. And while tamale is El Molino’s top choice all year round, if you’re visiting California in the summer, you definitely want to try the crisp tostada tortilla with crema or pozole topping.  Location 11 Central Avenue Sonoma, CA 95476 Hours 11:00 am – 8:00 pm daily   Ember Restaurant Ember Restaurant should be on your radar if you’re headed toward the Central Coast – that’s if you live to eat!  Locals, as well as regular visitors, will give anything to dine at Ember nearly every evening, and it’s not difficult to see why. The spot offers a woodsy coziness that suits its generous and comforting cooking style. Tips for Eating in California Restaurants
Tumblr media
Want a great dining experience while visiting any county in California? Follow these tips: Indicate Your Seating Preference Before You Arrive Think about what’s more comfortable for you in terms of seating arrangements, and make sure the restaurant understands your preference before you arrive. Let them know if you don’t like a communal table, or maybe indoor eating isn’t your thing things days and you prefer outdoor dining. Perhaps you are not comfortable with outdoor seating and would rather like bar seating.  Whatever your preference, communicate this clearly, whether online or through a phone call.   Book in Advance  Reserving a table might seem like a no-brainer, but it is even more crucial, particularly in a post-pandemic era.  Restaurants can figure out the number of workers they’ll need on duty every day if they know the number of guests to expect.    Don’t Be a No-Show Life happens, and it may be necessary to change your plans, including eating at a restaurant. However, it is not good for business if you don’t show up and forget to cancel. If you reserve a table but have a change of plans, don’t forget to cancel your spot. If you don’t do this, the restaurant will lose money because they will be holding your table. Make sure to phone the restaurant or go online and cancel if you can’t stick to your earlier arrangement.    Tip Generously Lastly, but very importantly, always tip generously. Encourage the restaurant workers to provide exceptional service by tipping.  Remember that tips support many food joint workers, especially during these difficult times when many of them may have been out of work for several months.  Bon appetit! The first Friday of every month is First Fridays Festival in Oakland, a street festival in Oakland's KONO neighborhood, the self-described hub of Oakland's beer garden and pub scene. On the designated day, they shut down Telegraph between West Grand and 27th street and fill it with the smells of all sorts of food cooking on grills and barbecues, music, and street vendors.

New Postponed World Tour Dates Confirmed For Spring 2022
Louis Tomlinson today announces that he is partnering with BMG to release his second album globally.
Recording is already underway for the record, and Louis joins a roster at BMG that includes KSI, Craig David, Richard Ashcroft, The Prodigy and Kylie Minogue.
Louis says: "I’m very excited to start the next part of my journey with BMG.”
Jamie Nelson VP A&R at BMG UK says: "We are delighted to welcome Louis to BMG. He is already busy working on new music, and we are excited to join him on the next phase of his extraordinary career."
Louis also announces today the first wave of new 2022 dates for his postponed World Tour in UK, Europe, USA and Australia, including a brand new date at London's Wembley Arena. This show replaces Louis's two sold out London shows at The Roundhouse, and tickets will be transferred to the new venue.
Louis's first show at Wembley Arena will take place on April 22nd 2022, and extra tickets for the gig go on sale on Friday 14th May at 9am BST.
After postponing his 2020 world tour due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Louis will now finally get back on the road with his first solo tour, which is already completely sold out. The new dates are listed below. Further international rescheduled dates will be announced at a later date.
Last year, Louis released his million selling smash debut solo album 'Walls' which hit Top 3 in the UK and Top 10 in the USA. A lyrically personal album that proved he had found his feet as a solo artist, the album produced a clutch of acclaimed singles including the emotive first release Two of Us, the raucous Kill My Mind, the reflective We Made It.
In 2019 Louis headlined the Coca-Cola music festival in Madrid to an audience of 25,000 people, and performed to 65,000 fans at Premios Telehit in the Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City. Louis picked up the Best Song Award at the 2019 Teen Choice Awards for 'Two Of Us', which has so far hit over 100 million streams on Spotify alone.
In 2018 Louis won an iHeart Award for 'Best Solo Breakout', and an EMA Award for 'Best UK & Ireland Act' in 2017. He was ranked No.5 on Billboard’s emerging artists of 2018 and has over 60 million combined followers on social media. Last year he won 'Artist Of The Summer' in Philly radio station 96.5 TDY's annual awards.
In December 2020, Louis hosted one of the biggest live stream concert events of 2020, selling over 160,000 tickets to fans in over 100 countries and raising funds for several important charities. As a member of One Direction, Louis has sold over 100 million records. Overall Louis’ solo music has garnered over a BILLION streams.

Raphael Saadiq
Tumblr media
Raphael Saadiq (born Charles Ray Wiggins; May 14, 1966) is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and record producer. He rose to fame as a member of the multiplatinum group Tony! Toni! Toné! In addition to his solo and group career, he has also produced songs for such artists as Joss Stone, D'Angelo, TLC, En Vogue, Kelis, Mary J. Blige, Ledisi, Whitney Houston, Solange Knowles and John Legend.
He and D'Angelo were occasional members of The Ummah, a music production collective, composed of members Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, and J Dilla of the Detroit-based group Slum Village. He is a co-founder of independent video game developer IllFonic, which developed Friday the 13th: The Game.
Saadiq's critically acclaimed album The Way I See It, released on September 16, 2008, featuring artists Stevie Wonder, Joss Stone, and Jay-Z, received three Grammy Award nominations. His fourth studio album, Stone Rollin', was released on March 25, 2011. For the album, Saadiq worked with steel guitarist Robert Randolph; former Earth, Wind & Fire keyboardist Larry Dunn; Swedish-Japanese indie rock singer Yukimi Nagano (of Little Dragon fame); funk artist Larry Graham (on the bonus song "Perfect Storm") and Taura 'Aura Jackson' Stinson.
Music critic Robert Christgau has called Saadiq the "preeminent R&B artist of the '90s".
Early life
Saadiq was born in Oakland, California, the second-youngest of 14 siblings. His early life was marked by tragedy; he experienced the deaths of several of his siblings as a young child. When Saadiq was seven years old, one brother was murdered. One of his brothers overdosed on heroin and another committed suicide because he was unable to deal with his addiction to the drug. His sister died as a result of a car crash during a police chase in a residential neighborhood. Saadiq states that he does not want his music to be reflective of the tragedies he experienced, saying that "And through all of that I was makin' records, but it wasn't comin' out in the music. I did it to kinda show people you can have some real tough things happen in your life, but you don't have to wear it on your sleeve."
He has been playing the bass guitar since the age of six, and first began singing at age nine in a local gospel group. At the age of 12, he joined a group called "The Gospel Humminbirds". In 1984, shortly before his 18th birthday, Saadiq heard about tryouts in San Francisco for Sheila E.'s backing band on Prince's Parade Tour. At the audition, he chose the name "Raphael", and had difficulty remembering to respond to the name when he heard that he got the part to play bass in the band. He says of the experience, "Next thing I was in Tokyo, in a stadium, singin' Erotic City. We were in huge venues with the biggest sound systems in the world; all these roadies throwin' me basses, and a bunch of models hangin' round Prince to party. For almost two years. That was my university."
Career
1987–1999: Tony! Toni! Toné! and The Ummah
After returning to Oakland from touring with Prince, Saadiq began his professional career as the lead vocalist and bassist in the rhythm and blues and dance trio Tony! Toni! Toné! He used the name Raphael Wiggins while in Tony! Toni! Toné!, along with his brother Dwayne Wiggins, and his cousin Timothy Christian. In the mid-1990s, he adopted the last name Saadiq, which means "man of his word" in Arabic. His change of surname led many to speculate that he had converted to Islam at that point; in reality, Saadiq is not a Muslim, but rather just liked the way "Saadiq" sounded and changed his last name simply to distinguish himself from and avoid potential confusion with his brother, Dwayne Wiggins. As he confirmed by telling noted R&B writer Pete Lewis of the award-winning 'Blues & Soul' in May 2009, "I just wanted to have my own identity!"
In 1995, Saadiq had his biggest solo hit to date, when "Ask of You", featured on the Higher Learning Soundtrack peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the R&B chart. In 1995, Saadiq produced and performed on Otis & Shug's debut album, We Can Do Whatever.
Tony! Toni! Toné! would become major R&B superstars throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. However, after the 1996 album entitled House of Music failed to duplicate the group's previous success, Tony! Toni! Toné! went their separate ways in 1997.
1999–2004: Lucy Pearl and first string of solo albums
In 1999, Saadiq's next big project became the R&B supergroup Lucy Pearl. He recorded the self-titled album with Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). The group only lasted for one album.
Also in 1999, he collaborated with rapper Q-Tip on the single "Get Involved", from the animated television series The PJs. It samples The Intruders' 1973 song "I'll Always Love My Mama" and charted at number 21 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks.
His 2000 song collaboration "Untitled (How Does It Feel)" won D'Angelo a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance; it was also nominated for Grammy Award for Best R&B Song. The song was ranked #4 on Rolling Stone's "End of Year Critics & Readers Poll" of the top singles of 2000. D'Angelo's album Voodoo won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
In 2002, Saadiq founded his own record label, Pookie Entertainment. Among the artists on the label are Joi and Truth Hurts. In 2002, he released his first solo album Instant Vintage, which earned him three Grammy Award nominations in addition to another two Grammy nominations for his writing work on “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop)” the following year. He released a two-disc live album All the Hits at the House of Blues in 2003, and his second studio album Ray Ray in 2004, both on Pookie Entertainment.
2004–2010: Expanded output and second string of albums
In 2004, Saadiq produced a remix of the song "Crooked Nigga Too" by Tupac Shakur which is featured on the album Loyal to the Game. Other artists he has collaborated with include Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, The Isley Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, Teedra Moses, The Roots, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Macy Gray, Angie Stone, Snoop Dogg, Mac Dre, Devin the Dude, DJ Quik, Kelis, Q-Tip, Lil' Skeeter, Ludacris, The Bee Gees, Musiq Soulchild, Jaguar Wright, Chanté Moore, Lionel Richie, Marcus Miller, Noel Gourdin, Nappy Roots, Calvin Richardson, T-Boz from TLC, Jody Watley, Floetry, Leela James, Amp Fiddler, John Legend, Joss Stone, Young Bellz, Anthony Hamilton, Babyface, Ledisi, Goapele, Ghostface Killah, —Ginuwine, The Grouch Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, Bilal, Chali 2na, Larry Graham, Luniz as well as many others. In 2007, Saadiq produced Introducing Joss Stone, the third album of British soul singer Joss Stone. According to J. Gabriel Boylan of The New York Observer, "he's produced artists including Macy Gray, the Roots, D'Angelo, John Legend, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, and more. With all of them he's pushed a classic aesthetic, heavy on organic sounds and light on studio magic, deeply indebted to the past and distrustful of easy formulas."
Saadiq's third solo album, The Way I See It, released on Columbia Records on September 16, 2008, available in a collector's edition box set of 7" 45 rpm singles as well as on traditional CD, was critically well-received, made several critics' 2008 best albums lists, and garnered three Grammy nominations including Best R&B Performance by a Duo Or Group With Vocals (for "Never Give You Up", featuring Stevie Wonder & CJ Hilton); Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance (for "Love That Girl") and Best R&B Album for The Way I See It. Music from The Way I See It was featured in the following motion pictures: Madea Goes To Jail, Bride Wars, Cadillac Records, Secret Life of Bees, In Fighting (Rogue), and It's Complicated.
Touring with a nine piece band, Saadiq hit the 2009 summer music festival circuit with performances at Bonnaroo, Hollywood Bowl, Outside Lands, Pori Jazz, Stockholm Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz, Essence Music Festival, Summer Spirit Festival, and Nice Jazz Festival, Bumbershoot Music Festival and Austin City Limits. Saadiq has been touring Europe extensively, and held a five-night residency at the House of Blues in Tokyo, Japan, in June 2009. In 2008, Saadiq formed a new label called Velma Records, a place where he promises "people can express themselves like I did with The Way I See It... where they can dream something up and just go with it".
He produced songs for LeToya Luckett's forthcoming second album Lady Love, released August 2009. In 2009, Saadiq produced "Please Stay" and "Love Never Changes" for Ledisi's August 2009 release "Turn Me Loose". Saadiq also was the executive producer for an emerging group called Tha Boogie. Tha Boogie's first EP was released on iTunes and is titled Love Tha Boogie, Vol. 1 (Steal This Sh*t).
In 2009, Saadiq announced his video game development company called IllFonic. The first video game in development by IllFonic is titled Ghetto Golf, with an expected release late in 2010. In 2009, Saadiq teamed up Bentley Kyle Evans, Jeff Franklin, Martin Lawrence, and Trenten Gumbs to create a new sitcom called Love That Girl! starring Tatyana Ali. Raphael is an executive producer and composer for Love That Girl!. The show airs on TV One and debuted on January 19, 2010. That same year, Saadiq performed The Spinners hit "It's A Shame" in a legendary Levi's commercial and sang as part of the chorus in the 2010 remake of "We Are the World" for Haiti.
2011–present: Stone Rollin'
In 2011, Saadiq was the guitarist/bandleader for the group backing Mick Jagger for Jagger's tribute performance of the Solomon Burke R&B classic, "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" at the 53rd Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and on CBS. The band that accompanied the performance was Saadiq's touring band called Stone Rollin. In 2011 he and his band performed as the ESPY's house band for the night, where he performed his latest compositions.
Saadiq's 2011 album Stone Rollin' was released to great critical acclaim. "He's always had a boyish enthusiasm for performing, and a flexible, naturally joyous voice that suggests a young Stevie Wonder," wrote Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune, "but with his latest album, Saadiq finds a new gear. The album and his current tour demonstrate that there's a big difference between retro and classic, and the artist consistently finds himself on the right side of that divide." Kot ranked the album number seven in his year-end list, in which he dubbed it Saadiq's "finest achievement" and stated, "He's always written songs steeped in soul and R&B, but now he gives them a progressive edge with roaming bass lines and haunted keyboard textures. He's no longer a retro stylist – he's writing new classics." Critic Jim Derogatis called it "a stone cold gas of a party disc."
In fall 2011, he performed on the fourth results show of Dancing with the Stars season 13. In December 2011, he performed a cover compilation of several Neil Diamond songs at the Kennedy Center Honors award ceremony.
In 2012 he signed a deal with Toyota to do a TV commercial for the Toyota Prius. In 2013 Raphael partnered with Bay Area/ Atlanta Production company EL Seven Entertainment/ Republic Records and new R&B Superstar Adrian Marcel and released his 1st promotional mixtape "Raphael Saadiq Presents Adrian Marcel 7 Days of Weak".
Saadiq is a featured bass guitar player on Elton John's 2013 album, The Diving Board.
In 2016 he executive produced Solange Knowles album, A Seat At The Table which debuted at #1 on music charts in the United States. He also guest starred in Luke Cage, where he performs his songs "Good Man" and "Angel" at Harlem's Paradise.
In 2017 he appeared in the award-winning documentary film The American Epic Sessions, directed by Bernard MacMahon, where he recorded the Memphis Jug Band’s 1928 song “Stealin’ Stealin’” live on the restored first electrical sound recording system from the 1920s. Of recording on the system he said, “it’s amazing to just look at how it’s built, you know just look at the machine itself. It just has this like magical sound the way that it’s built. It’s true. It’s just the truest sound you could ever get.”
In 2017, Saadiq collaborated with Mary J. Blige as a songwriter for the movie Mudbound (2017), for which they both received Academy Award nominations for Best Original Song.
In 2018, he produced the John Legend holiday themed album, A Legendary Christmas.
During the 2020 coronavirus pandemic he released a song on his website called Rony! Roni! Roné!”

HEAR: Indie Rock | HotWax - ‘A Thousand Times’ EP
Tumblr media
HotWax just bursted on the scene with an incredible debut A Thousand Times EP that is WILD and absolutely captivating rock. Their grunge rock sound is reminiscent of early 90s rock but with much more OOMPF! Take a listen to their single “Mother” below: Acclaimed UK three-piece HotWax today announced their debut North American tour dates this fall in support of Royal Blood. The run will begin on November 9th at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern and take the band up the west coast and across the mid- and southwest before wrapping at San Diego’s The Sound on November 27th. “We are beyond excited to be supporting Royal Blood this November. We have grown up listening to their music and this opportunity is like a dream!” says the band. “To be playing America for the first time is insane, we feel so lucky.” A current itinerary is below and tickets will go on sale this Friday, June 2nd at 10am local time. HotWax–vocalist/guitarist Tallulah Sim-Savage, bassist/vocalist Lola Sam, and drummer Alfie Sayers–will be touring in support of their debut EP A Thousand Times, released May 19th(Marathon Artists) and which has garnered the young band praise from DORK (cover story), NME, Clash, Louder Than War, The Independent, The Times, and more. The band has also been getting early stateside nods around the EP and its singles (“Rip It Out,” the title track, “Treasure”) from Stereogum (‘Other albums of note’) and Brooklyn Vegan (“dose of grunge revival”), as well as radio play from influential stations like KEXP and WFUV. The five-track A Thousand Times was produced by Ben Beetham (of Kid Kapichi) and mixed by Mike Horner (Hot Chip, HMLTD, Deaf Havana). “The EP is a homage to mine and Lola’s relationship growing up together and the arguments we’d have a thousand times,” explains Sim-Savage. “The EP includes themes of guilt, love, climate change, womanhood, contraception, anxiety, and endings.” At just 18 years old, HotWax is already dominating local scenes in the southeast of England, completing a mini UK tour last month, support dates with Sad Boys Club and Cumgirl8, as well as stops at The Great Escape and Dot To Dot festivals. The band will also perform at a number of upcoming summer festivals, including Mad Cool, Visions, and All Points East (alongside The Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs). HotWax’s rarified live energy and sound has already won the support of Courtney Love, Nova Twins, Wolf Alice, Jack Saunders, John Kennedy, and Matt Wilkinson. The band, who have only recently left school, harnesses the firepower of the grunge pioneers through songs armed with mighty choruses, and they possess the imaginative brilliance to stake out a new landscape in guitar music.
