📗 Notebook flipped to the page graced with a sketch of Hawks, his hero name written across the header along with a few traits Izuku noticed but he had plenty of space for more! Where to begin though!? "So, did you come up with the name Fierce Wings? How many feathers do you have in total? Can you really control each and every single one or is there a limit? I know you can carry people with a feather by itself so how much weight can one feather hold? Are they made out of keratin or some other organic material? They didn't seem to burn instantly from Endeavor's Hellfire when you gave him that speed he needed back in Fukuoka." And everyone knew the number 1 hero's flames burned intensely hot!
"Is it possible for a feather to be too far out of range to retrieve it or where you can't hear any sounds from it? Also, if you turn one into a sword, does it change back if someone else grabs it? Since you're able to fly, obviously, are you affected by low atmospheric pressure the higher you ascend or is your body used to it?" Well aware the 'dweeb' asked so many questions already, he decided to cut himself off. Best to not overwhelm Hawks. Well, one more couldn't hurt. "You ... don't have to answer this next one but ... your wings don't have a skeletal structure, right?" When those feathers flew, reducing Hawks' wings in size, there was ... nothing per se beneath. No limbs to be found. "Uh, how are they attached to you?"
Once the notebook opens Keigo’s yellow eyes hero slowly gaze around the page dedicated to him. Everything in there so far was right, he’d been paying very tight attention to the number two. “Impressive Midoriya, you captured my liking exactly right.” The hero says with a smile, gently scratching his signature on the top of the page with the end of a crimson red feather.
“Well kid, you sure know how to get down to business.” The hero laughs. “Okay you ready? Listen up.”
“Fierce Wings might be a name a bit on the nose, but it rolls easy off the tongue doesn’t it?” He continues. “I just thought of it when i was devouring a bucket of them with a sauce just a little too… spicy for my liking.” He says as the name is probably the least interesting backstory of the hero. But that bucket does bring back some good memories.. he keeps his focus and continues listing off the questions. “As for the amount i have, it differs with the amount of rest i get in between recovery of lost ones. But let’s say i carry a maximum of eight thousand, so four on each side to stay in balance! So while i’m fighting i have to keep track of how much i use on each side.”
“My wings have a primary and secondary row of feathers that start from biggest and widest to smaller and firmer to carry more wind.” He stretches one of them out for the young hero in training to take a closer look. “I can use most of them but you see here?” He points at the top of his wing “This is called the patagium, it’s a in my case thick feathered fold that acts as a base for the others. It’s formed from within my spine and spreads out through my shoulder blades so they can take form and are attached once outside of my body. The feathers basically all have their own place and i can use them all as long as the base exists or isn’t too messed up.”
“As for my swords, i use my two outmost primary feathers, since they are the biggest i own, the feathers itself are able to press together so tight they’re as sharp as a sword. So they’re not actual swords still. But just like how paper can cut through skin with it’s thin yet firmness. So can these..” And so the hero demonstrates, flying two of the outer feathers so his hand and they soon are visible as his famous red swords.
“Since i have high control that also means i can relax them whenever necessary, making them just a normal feather if the wrong person gets their hands on it.” He speaks as he sends them back but lands one in Izuku’s notebook so he can take it in for a little longer “My wings bend and rotate they dont just flap up and down as most think, i wouldn’t be able to move unless the air itself brings me, if that was the truth.” He lets out a low blow and scratches his neck “Endeavor does burn brightly you can say that. But just like how ducks are able to stay afloat on water with preening themselves in their own oil and having a thick and tight amount, once my feathers are so tightly formed together it cannot be let through, so even fire has a bit of a longer travel time before it can actually catch onto an end and start eating away. “
“There is no limit to a feather’s range, since it picks up vibrations in the place it has been left at i will always be able to hear reverberations due to them being telekinetically connected. However when stepped on, in water, or anywhere that’s not generally just on the ground and left alone it can be harder to understand what is going on.” The hero gives a big toothed grin. “I’m still human above all, so altitude and air pressure does affect me. It’s especially the lack of oxygen high in the sky that gets me, but it saves me from a cramped airplane. And you know, those who can fly, should fly. You’re right Deku, underneath all of them there is nothing. Which makes me able to be an S+ rank in speed since i don’t carry a lot of weight, but it also leaves me vulnerable when i’m out.”

*Reminder, this is part 2.
Halsin’s gaze roamed over your face, your hair, and you unconsciously hugged your robe a bit tighter. You weren’t typically a shy person, but something about his visual inspection made your cheeks flush and you had to fight the urge not to swipe a piece of hair behind your ears. Instead, you held his gaze, as best as you could anyway.
“Your hair is styled differently,” he proceeded, “and the top of your ears no longer have their tips. And yet… you are as beautiful now as you were then. Clearly, nature still works its wonders, even in this foreign place.”
You nearly gasped at his words as a wave of flutters tickled your belly. And his smile only further enhanced the prickling goosebumps racing across your skin. Speechless, a torrent of silence stretched between you and the man with the pointed ears. In mere moments, the air felt thick with tension, unspoken words, confusion, questions, and so much more. You were starting to get lost in his intense eyes again, the way he looked at you with such fondness. And you knew at that moment your heart was correct. He wouldn’t hurt you. He was safe. But there was still so much you didn’t know.
As if detecting your thoughts, he cleared his throat and expanded his chest a little, like he was bracing himself. “I get ahead of myself. Now, as I promised you, I will explain all. Shall we sit?”
You glanced at the counter next to you where tall chairs lined up together, and shook your head. Your legs would’ve been a shaking mess if you were forced to remain in a seated position, anxiously awaiting his words. Somehow you felt steadier on two feet, with one hip leaning slightly against the side of the island.
“Standing is fine.”
Halsin nodded. “Very well.”
He took two, calm strides forward, closer to the other side of the countertop, directly across from you. He closed his eyes, his large chest rising and falling. A gold emblem of a leaf on his chest gleamed beneath the warm light, but when he opened his eyes again, he had your complete attention.
“The place I mentioned earlier, Faerûn, where I hail from, is a realm far from here. It can only be accessed by opening a very particular and powerful portal. It is how I arrived in this world myself, through the Astral Plane, and then here I—"
You lifted a hand, stopping him. “Sorry- portal? Astral Plane? Next thing you’ll say is you’ve once seen dragons breathe down fire from the sky, or you have pointed ears because you’re an—
“An elf,” he interjected, smiling. “Both of which you mention are true. Though I’ve been told I’m rather large for one.” A gentle chuckle sounded from his throat, it would’ve been comforting were your face not contorted in complete bafflement.
“You’re an elf?” You half laughed, incredulous. But at your reaction, the trace of humor that marked his face waned.
“Yes,” he simply responded, calm. “The Oak Father warned me that there would be many changes in this world. Your world. I now presume the mention of portals and dragons will be among the many number of differences for all I have to say.”
You exhaled, absentmindedly shaking your head. The longer you looked at him, the more you could tell he meant what he was saying, or at least he believed it enough. Too wrapped up in your thoughts, you couldn’t even conjure up the question of who the hell the Oak Father was. And you got the sense that Halsin, in whatever tale he was about to unravel, was just scratching the surface.
“You’re being serious.” You weren’t really asking, more so stating.
“I am.”
“You’re an elf? How is that even…” you trailed off, speechless. How was that what? Possible? How was anything he was saying possible? As a writer, you were a believer in ‘anything is possible’ but when that anything was a six-and-a-half foot, maybe more, henched elf…
“Are there no elves in this world?” One of his brows was slightly raised.
“No. No elves, no dragons. Just an overpopulated amount of humans.”
“Ah, I see,” he said. “That would explain the change in your ears, though I suppose you could’ve become any race on any plane.”
You gasped, blinking rapidly. He was starting to lose you, speaking to you like he knew you, like there was some other version of you.
Halsin must’ve sensed the havoc firing in your brain because he stepped forward, and you heard the sound of the chair scraping the floor as he bumped into it. You raised a hand to halt him, even though the entire island still separated you.
Without actually saying it, he was basically calling you an elf. There was a sudden twitch along the rim of your right ear at the mere thought. There was more to this tale, just hear him through. Closing your eyes for a few seconds, you breathed deeply and silently vowed that you wouldn’t interrupt again, or at least you would try not to. You opened your eyes. “Alright then… continue.”
He nodded, releasing a heavy breath of his own. He took a moment to analyze you before proceeding. “Faerûn is where I met you. You and your companions had saved me from the cruel shackles of a brutish goblin camp.” His mouth twisted in disgust, before smoothing out again. “Then you helped to save my grove, a druid’s sanctuary under my govern- from slaughter and being cut off from the world. I knew then… that you would become most important to me.” A warm smile melted into his cheeks and that fondness in his gaze returned. Yes, you were indeed safe with him.
“So I joined you,” he carried on, “on a journey of high adventure where you and your companions welcomed me with open arms. You became my friends, and soon after, my family.”
He went on to explain the depths of your adventures together and how you faced all sorts of formidable foes and challenges. He spoke of the times you cleansed curses, cut down hags, slayed devils, ended a vampire lord, and destroyed would-be gods. It was all so much, and yet the way Halsin delivered this tale, how he articulated each word so careful and precise in his language, was exceptionally poetic. He connected words in ways you wouldn’t think of, as though he came from a time long past.
And even though he was telling you tales of the sort of things you’d usually read about or see in movies, which made it even more unbelievable, you were extremely immersed. He made it easy to follow along to imagine the landscapes, the campsites, and your companions. No, your friends, apparently.
An interesting group from the way he described them. There were some strange words you caught here and there like githyanki or tiefling, but also very familiar ones like vampire and wizard. He described one who had red skin and two horns, one cut halfway- she was among your first closest friends, he said. After forming your group, before you met him, she had been the one you connected with swiftly, more of an open book than the other women. But in time, they too became like your sisters.
And the vampire was another close friend of yours, a sincere bond that blossomed from such a fragile heart. You once shared a brief romantic relationship with this white-haired elf, but came to realize your bond thrived better in the waters of friendship. You wished you could’ve seen all Halsin was describing, what he was imagining from his faraway look while he recounted this intriguing world. You knew that your own mental images weren’t doing it justice.
“…and our bond only grew stronger, rooted in the depths of the earth.” The more Halsin spoke, the more the leaves decorating his shoulders lowered as he relaxed. Sometimes he spoke faster than he seemed to intend, eager to share all he could with you. “And in battle, you were magnificent as always, the way the crackle of lightning simmered over your fingers, or how your longsword was blazed in fire, smiting your foes with no mercy. I knew to never stray on your bad side.” Halsin chuckled at this, a deep rumble from his throat.
You wished you could return the sentiment, but you could only half smile in return, a dull ache in your gut. It all sounded too incredible, fascinating really. But to your disappointment, none of it meant anything to you. You found yourself genuinely wanting to connect with his story, the world he painted for you.
And the way he spoke about you, there was something so incredibly deep there, raw, pure, powerful. You could feel that he cared for you in ways that went far beyond just friends or casual lovers. He cared for you possibly more than anyone you’ve ever known, or at least cared for whoever this version of you was. Someone fierce, powerful, a leader…and could wield magic?
“You’ve talked about magic a lot,” your voice filled the room, taking the chance to speak while Halsin paused his story, “that all of your—our- friends had it, because of access to the Weave?” You narrowed your brows, glancing at Halsin for some silent reassurance. When he nodded, you continued. “And some were closer to magic than others or accessed it in different ways… so are you telling me that you have this magic even now?”
Halsin grinned. “I do. And I presume that is but another change in your world.”
You hummed. “There is magic, in a way… rituals, spells, but definitely not how you’ve described it. It all sounds like the sorts of things I read and write about.”
Halsin stood straighter, his chest expanding as that proud grin still painted his face. “May I demonstrate?”
Your stomach flipped. “Demonstrate? Right- right here?”
“If you wish?” Halsin raised one hand, letting it hover off to the side as he stared at you, silently waiting for your permission.
You looked up at him, shifting between both of his eyes before settling on his waiting hand. There was no way this was about to happen. Magic? Fresh nerves stormed in your belly, but it was mostly fueled by a wave of excitement, just the tiniest hint of fear lingered in its depths. You had no idea what to expect; maybe a magic trick? Some sort of illusion? You swallowed, meeting his eyes again. With a deep breath, you nodded. “Okay, go ahead.”
Halsin, still smiling, turned his attention to his hand. You watched him close his eyes, almost lost in the wave of peace that washed over him, finding it easier to inspect his features without his eyes trained on you. He truly was a beautiful man. You watched his lips that seemed to mumble a bit, and random twitches in his eyes like he was searching behind closed lids. He looked at peace, and damn if peace didn’t look wonderful on him.
The scars across his brows did nothing to diminish his appearance, and you couldn’t help but imagine what caused such a wound. Halsin hadn’t mentioned that in his story, at least not yet. You clenched your teeth a bit, suddenly feeling upset that something would dare harm this man in such a way. He was still a stranger, and it even surprised you to feel this strange sense of…protection over him? Whatever caused the scar, you just knew Halsin didn’t deserve it.
Your expression softened, and you felt like you could stare at him forever, fixing his image in your mind. But forever was short-lived as something else caught your eye. From the palm of Halsin’s hand, a tendril of soft, golden light flowed upward, accompanied by two more. You gasped, frozen, completely entranced at the sight before you. You half noticed Halsin open his eyes, but you couldn’t take yours away from the cloudy mist of golden light that streamed and danced in slow, intertwining patterns. The room suddenly felt warmer, comforting, like it was suddenly the safest place on the planet.
“Magic,” you heard Halsin murmur, and you finally looked at him once more, nearly gasping again.
The light reflected against his eyes, causing a warm glow as he stared at you carefully, gauging your reaction. The golden-yellow light danced across his face, shadowing and lighting certain features as it moved. You weren’t sure what to focus on- Halsin, or the orb of energy he seemed to conjure just from his hand. As though sensing your thoughts again, Halsin made it easier to choose. He extended his hand over the counter, directly to you. The tendrils of light slithered away from his hand, reaching for you, lazily flowing towards your hand.
Surprisingly, you didn’t flinch but remained so still, the only thing racing was your heart as a tickle fluttered over your hand on first contact. You watched the golden glow travel up your hand, passing over your cheek and simultaneously spreading across your chest. It was warm, like a soft blanket of protection. It was a strange energy that seemed to be attracted to you, both exploring and revering you as it encompassed you entirely. You released a sudden gasp, overwhelmed by the tingles that crept up your spine and expanded across your chest. A near-weightlessness feeling washed over you. Another sigh as the magic finally dissipated, leaving you with a deep sense of peace as a gift. A gift of…magic.
“Magic thrives where it belongs.” The sound of Halsin’s deep timbre shook you out of your sudden stupor. “It always knows its way home.”
Breathing a bit harder now, you placed both hands firmly on the counter, losing the stillness from before. Your robe loosened slightly but still managed to cover yourself mostly. “That was…amazing.”
Halsin’s smile was just as warm as the magic he recently conjured. “As are you.”
Your breath caught in your throat, and you were immediately lost in the beautiful warmth of Halsin’s gaze. His hands were also leaning on the counter, with the one he used for his spectacle being placed closer to you.
A million and one thoughts danced in your brain: affection, wonder, intrigue, confusion. The impossible becoming possible before your very eyes. An invisible thread formed between the two of you; a bond that ached to reel you into each other, a magnetic force awakening after finally finding the right field to pull itself into.
Halsin muttered your name, so sweetly from his lips, his head tilting slightly. A chill swarmed up your back at his voice. You decided then that you liked the way he said your name, almost breathy. He sounded so close. You would’ve sworn he whispered it into your ear except you were very much staring at him across the kitchen island.
“Halsin?” you managed to mutter, sensing the faint shakiness in your breath.
“Yes?” He was intensely focused on you, eager for whatever you were about to request. If you could read his mind, you’d assume he was ready to march around the counter to get closer to you the second you allowed it.
“What happened with… us? Why did you come here?” You nearly regretted it the moment you asked as his face fell and his shoulders slumped. But you had to know.
He hadn’t finished all he had to say, and you still had too many questions. From everything he said, it sounded like you had an amazing life together, all things considered, so what went wrong? Why was this man -elf- standing in the middle of your kitchen, in the middle of the night, from a land far, far from home?
Halsin’s hand slipped back, and he glanced away, frowning. Your stomach felt uneasy at his change in tone, in demeanor. But you patiently waited.
Still looking away from you, Halsin breathed deeply. “After we defeated the Absolute, and helped repair the city, we all went our own ways, for the most part.” He spoke so softly, quiet. “You and I returned to what once was Reithwin, where we lifted the curse. We built a wonderful life together. We spent two decades there, in blissful peace, occasionally leaving to visit our friends, sometimes taking us away from home a few months at a time, with your encouragement. Other times they’d come to us, staying for days or weeks at a time. It was a fulfilling life.” He finally met your eyes again, smiling gently but it did not quite reach his eyes.
“We were so happy,” he expressed, a faint lightness in his tone. “There were many moments I feared I would wake, and you would have moved on, ending the dream…. But you were always there, wrapped around me as the rising sun illuminated our room. And you never failed to reassure me how happy you were, with our life, with me.”
There was a sadness laced in Halsin’s calm voice and each moment a flicker of dread occupied his eyes as he stared at you while he spoke. You rubbed your lips together, trying but failing to suppress your fleet of nerves. Tonight had to be a record for how often your heart rate rose and calmed.
“One day,” he exhaled a deep breath, trembling. “We received urgent word from Lae’zel, calling for us all to meet her in the Astral Plane. She and her people were finally so close to defeating Vlaakith once and for all but needed the help of old friends to ensure victory. I was a bit hesitant to take on another such venture after a time of peace… but she was our family. To deny her our aid was out of the question.”
The gravity in his voice expressed to you how serious this choice was. You still had no recognition of who Lae’zel was, only from the brief stories he told. But here on Earth, you did have friends of your own who you would go to hell and back for, and they’d do the same for you. So you admired Halsin’s decision to aid this Lae’zel.
“So we prepared as best we could,” Halsin continued, “calling upon old allies who would be able to lend a hand and once again fight alongside the Saviors of Baldur’s Gate.” He made a gesture with his hands like he was about to introduce someone to a stage. “And before we knew it, we were back in the Astral Plane. It was chaos, magic against magic, dragons against dragons.”
He closed his eyes, his nose scrunched up in disgust as though reliving the memory all over again. It made your heart quicken the more he uncovered about this battle in a space where time did not exist. He told you that Vlaakith may very well have been a god, or was exceptionally close to godhood than ever before.
Halsin exhaled, shaking his head slightly. “We’ve faced formidable foes, as I mentioned, and she earned her place among them.” He looked away again, half turning his body. “We were waning. Vlaakith had great losses, but we were tiring ourselves just the same. Every blade, every cut, every flicker of magic was followed by a strange exhaustion. Perhaps the Astral Plane had unpredictable effects. It seemed to make us stronger but for a limited time and when that effect wore off…”
“She started winning,” you muttered. Not so much to him, but to yourself. You could almost picture it: fighting in a space of endless time, amongst stars, floating rock, and deceased titan-like gods. You emerged from your inner thoughts as Halsin began to speak again.
“But we have been broken before, and we never gave in to defeat. So we fought, and fought, using all the strength our bodies would allow, all the magic our energy could conjure…And we had done it. We defeated the tyrant, together, as we’ve always done, this time Lae’zel delivered the final strike. But—”
A rough breath left Halsin’s mouth. He squeezed his eyes shut, fist clenching. You absentmindedly moved towards the side of the island, not completely coming to Halsin’s side, but noticeably closer than before.
Your heart was hammering, anxious for him to continue. But you had no words at the moment, only allowing Halsin to gather himself until he was ready to proceed. A few seconds, then more, and he opened his eyes, obliviously staring at the now empty space you occupied moments before.
“But Vlaakith still drew breath,” he gritted his teeth, a sudden ire dripping from his tone.
It almost frightened you, to sense the simmering rage that crept up his throat. This man who had been so calm, so gentle towards you, and still was, now seemingly fighting back an old vengeance. It was like the room suddenly felt heavier, brought down by a foreign anger that had nowhere to go.
You already missed the occasional smiles that graced his face a short time ago, the warmth of nature in his eyes as he gazed at you. Another breath left the large man’s lips, his broad chest rising and settling into a gentle rhythm. When he spoke again, there was still a taste of an underlying anger in his voice, more hidden now that he was no longer clenching his teeth.
“Vlaakith would not let death capture her without another,” he said, still not meeting your eyes. “With her last strength, she aimed a fatal blow at Lae’zel only to miss…” He finally turned to look at you, sorrow dragging down his face. “She missed because you leapt in front of her instead.”
Even under the dim lighting, you could’ve sworn the color left his tanned face. Your stomach tightened and a sudden wave of nausea lingered in the depths of your belly. You suddenly felt panicked, shocked, and tired all at once; like you were experiencing someone else’s emotions, someone else’s pain. You rested your elbows on the counter, leaning your weight onto it.
“So Vlaakith,” you swallowed, taking a breath. “Killed her instead? Killed…me?”
“Yes,” Halsin answered quickly, as if desperate to move past that truth. He started shaking his head, overcome by emotions. “It all happened too quickly. I couldn’t get to you fast enough. And by the time you fell in my arms, the Astral Plane was already beginning to claim you. You looked at me and…you said, in the most angelic voice I know…in every life.”
A wave of dread washed over you, sneaking into your pores and threatening to drown out your soul. You weren’t remembering anything, you weren’t visualizing this fatal moment and yet it felt like your lungs had the air violently sucked out of it. You clenched your teeth, trying to calm yourself and also feign that you were okay, not wanting to watch Halsin’s face contort to anymore worry. Grasping the edge of the counter, you were acutely aware of Halsin still speaking.
“So I spent the next 11 years without you, until one night, a dream. You came to me.” Halsin’s words pulled your attention back to him, your ears honing in on this new information. “It was unlike any other I’ve had of you before. It was…urgent. Real. You were repeatedly telling me to find you, your voice blending in and out of earshot. And just before I woke, your voice came beside my ear, I could feel your breath tickle my skin, you said but one word…‘Earth’.”
“I…I said that?” you stammered a bit, throat dry, trying to quell the strange reactions undertaking your body.
Halsin nodded, terse. “You did. I did not understand it at the time, for the only earth I knew was the grass and dirt beneath my feet.” He bowed, placing a fist across his chest. “But with the wisdom of Silvanus, and the aid of the greatest wizard I’ve ever met, I learned that Earth was a place. A world. Your new world.” Halsin turned, taking a step along the counter, then another, towards you. But he stopped when he caught your expression, and you silently thanked him for it.
You sensed he wanted to be comforting, to tell you this news as gently as possible, but it was becoming all too overwhelming again. You almost wanted to ask if he could conjure up some more magic so you could get enveloped in its sweet, soothing embrace again. So it could untwist the knots in your stomach and calm the rate of your heart with its golden light.
Halsin lowered his head, sullen, occasionally shifting his eyes from you to the empty space at your side. “It took another year to figure out how to open the right portal and the right amount of magic it demanded.” His voice was softer, lower, like he was losing confidence the more he continued to speak. “I was warned that it may be difficult to return or that you may not remember me. But I had to try… so Gale, Shadowheart, and myself, with the guidance of Silvanus, Mystra, and Selûne at our backs, entered the astral plane once again. There, a portal for me already awaited…”
He stared at you, softly searching your eyes, daring another tentative step closer. “And then I came here, to you… to the greatest love my heart has ever known.”
“Halsin…” you breathed, but he raised his hands, halting you.
“This may not be Faerûn, and elven blood may no longer flow through your veins. But your face, your eyes, your very soul is just the same. I can feel it.”
Another fleet of nerves sliced through you, your heart pumping fiercely in your ears, the beat of your pulse so intense within your wrists. Halsin was almost standing directly before you now, the heat radiating off his large frame reached for you, as eager as the golden tendrils of magic.
But he stopped before closing the distance entirely, not crossing the small threshold of space still between you. You avoided his gaze, but could still feel him watching you, and could hear the quick pacing of his breath, like he was trying his damnedest to calm himself.
Your name left his lips, a gentle plea to guide your attention back to him. An involuntary flutter decorated your cheeks when he said your name that way, the gentleness of it, fueled with decades of love. But even that was not enough to quell your pounding heart. You were stuck trying to understand everything Halsin was telling you, this man, this elf. This elf who was apparently 350 years old when you embarked on this wild adventure together, with friends who weren’t all human, and who could do great and magical things. You could do great and magical things. It was all so incredible, but also, it was too much…
Halsin’s deep timbre filled your ears, you could almost feel the vibration in his voice. “What are you thinking, my heart?”
“Please,” you muttered, startled by his tender words of affection. “You shouldn’t say that…” You dared a look at him, noting the strict narrowing in his brows and confusion in his expression.
So he said your name again, as a question this time, fear accompanying his voice. You sighed, suddenly feeling more overwhelmed with each passing second. His presence was so much, the closeness, his warmth, his words of affection for a love once lost. A love he believed to be you. So, you took two steps back, needing to reclaim the distance between you two, needing to find room to breathe and to think.
Your throat felt dry and you promptly found yourself reaching for a nearby water bottle, hastily swallowing as much of the water as you could. Breathing rapidly, you put the bottle aside and steadied yourself with both hands on the counter.
“Halsin, I…I don’t know…”
He remained still, careful not to further overwhelm you by standing too close. “You are having trouble believing me?”
You half-laughed, bringing your hands to your head, and dug your fingers into your hair. “Quite the opposite. In fact, this would be so much easier if I didn’t believe you.” You started pulling at your scalp, just a little before releasing your grip.
You started moving around the island but remained mindful not to get too close to Halsin, a million thoughts racing in your head. “If I didn’t believe you then I could just assume you were crazy, and that I was crazy for letting you in my house and I’d just ask you to leave and probably call the cops. It would be one hell of a story to tell my friends but—” You stopped pacing, finding the courage to look at him again. His expression was a mixture of emotions, but the worry in his eyes overtook them all.
“I believe you, Halsin.”
He smiled, warm, the expression so beautiful on his face. And it nearly broke your heart.
“I believe that you come from a place of what people here would deem impossible, and you had these amazing friends, and a life with…” you closed your eyes, breathing deeply. “But I’m not her, Halsin…”
You opened your eyes to find his smile falling, the sight nearly ripping you in two. You ignored the incessant nerves that ravaged your stomach, the loud beat of your heart that just could not rest. “I believe that you cared for that part of me... but that isn’t who I am, Halsin. I have no memory of anything you speak of. I have an entire life here.”
Halsin said nothing, silence seizing him. You rushed on, question after question, whatever thought you could pull out of your head from the sea of endless thoughts. “What am I supposed to do with this, Halsin? What was your plan after finding me?”
You waved your arms aimlessly, unable to control the issues spilling out of your mouth. “Am I supposed to go to your world, now? Do you stay in mine? Do you just sleep on my couch and we talk about it in the morning?”
“Perhaps, if you wish to wait for the morning sun, I—"
“No, Halsin. I don’t wish for that. I—I don’t know what to do. But I do know this…”
You regarded him, taking a moment to gather yourself. He stood patiently, so quiet, and yet his eyes said so much. A budding fear was digging its claws into this large elf, right before your eyes. “I’m afraid, Halsin.”
He frowned, taking a step back and you quickly moved forward, throwing your hands up. “No, no!” you exclaimed, halting him. “Not afraid of you, I know I’m safe with you. I just…I think I’m afraid of all of this. I don’t know how to handle it. Maybe I need time or maybe I need…ugh.” You groaned in frustration, unable to find the words, unable to process.
Halsin lowered his head, a deep breath, then another. A twang of guilt poked against your chest, though you knew you had nothing to feel guilty for. He seemed like he was an incredible man. He was gorgeous, calm, a fantastic talker, and above all he managed to make you feel entirely safe despite his foreboding stature.
“I’m so, so sorry you lost her, Halsin,” you were half-whispering, careful with your words. “I have no doubt you were so loved. I can tell you are an amazing man and maybe if you and I met in other circumstances, and we were from the same world… who knows…” You tried to sound as comforting as possible but even you felt a twinge of sadness at your words.
And in that moment, you realized you wanted to be that person that Halsin crossed realms for. To be that person who was so deeply loved, and to feel the same in return. But you found it nearly impossible to mentally handle this. It was all so wonderful, phenomenal, unbelievable, and yet you believed it all, down to the very last word. And it terrified you that it was possible.
“I’m just a normal gal, who loves to write and watch movies, play games, and take walks. I’m not that remarkable, powerful sorceress who wielded a sword as skillful as a fighter. I’m not who you loved. I’m just me.” A long breath left your lips, and your shoulders slumped in exhaustion, defeated.
“I understand,” Halsin said, finally gracing you with his voice again. You needed to hear it right now, more than ever. You needed to know he would be okay. “Forgive me…in my haste to find you, to see you again, I failed to consider what that may mean for you.”
You smiled, meekly. “No, you longed to find your love again. If I was in your place, I would’ve rushed at the chance myself. I wish I could’ve given you the reaction you imagined.” Your head slumped, suddenly feeling heavy, and a sea of guilt swam harshly within you.
Halsin sighed, calm. “No, don’t say that. This was a lot to process, a lot to bear.” He walked towards you slowly, watching your expression closely so as to make sure not to overstep. When you didn’t protest or step backward, he proceeded. “And if it means anything, even if you’re just a normal gal, I know in my heart you are extraordinary.”
A burning sensation simmered in your eyes, and you swallowed, trying not to let your emotions completely consume you. Already too overwhelmed by what to even feel. Tilting your head upward, the closer Halsin came, tears almost threatened to spill when you got a deeper look into his eyes. Maybe you just needed time, time to figure out what this meant for you, what it meant for both of you. But how much time that was, you couldn’t predict. But Halsin’s warmth was hovering near you again as his eyes looked all over your face, smiling sadly.
“Thank you,” he murmured., deep “Thank you for opening the door, for allowing me into your home, for letting me gaze upon your beautiful eyes after a decade of only seeing them in my dreams.”
Your lips parted, but no words sounded from them. Only a gasp of uncertainty. An exhale of emotions you couldn’t define. He was leaving, and the thought made your stomach lurch. But what else were he to do? You had no idea yourself, torn between telling him to give you time and just accepting that you weren’t who he sought.
“I will return to Faerûn.” He shut his eyes, breathing deeply, then reopened them. “But it will bring me great peace to leave knowing that you are safe, that I was blessed with such a chance to be in your presence again, whether you recall the memories or not.”
You almost muttered another ‘I’m sorry’ but decided against it. You sensed Halsin wouldn’t want that, he wouldn’t want you to feel guilty for having done nothing wrong.
You took in his face, the small scar on his bottom lip, the red tattoo, the tiny strands of hair above his head that didn’t seem long enough to reach his bun. Halsin stepped closer, almost completely blocking the view behind him. You watched his eyes bore into yours; scanning your face, your cheeks, your lips, like he was reaffirming his image of you.
“I would only request one thing before I leave you,” he spoke deeply, a heaviness in his tone. Then he met your eyes again. “I would very much like to hug you, if you allow it.”
You smiled softly, nodding your head ‘yes’ despite the blood rushing through your veins. “Sure.”
You inhaled quickly and quietly, turning to face him as he moved towards you, never breaking eye contact. In one full stride, you were consumed by his warm, inviting, woodsy aroma with a touch of sweet sandalwood. And as his large arms curled around your frame, you could’ve guessed there was the faintest hint of…vanilla?
Your heart skipped as you turned your face to the side, tentatively resting your cheek against his firm chest. You heard him release a heavy sigh, feeling the strength of his chest as air filled and left his lungs. Halsin’s heart thumped rapidly against your ears, outpacing your own. You frowned slightly, spreading your arms further around his waist, as best as you could reach, and squeezed gently. Halsin responded to this, his thick muscles tightening around you, pulling you closer until you were almost cocooned in his protective and endearing embrace.
Halsin’s warmth was so consuming, steadily relaxing the rushing blood in your veins. His heart also seemed to calm, though still at a higher rate than what you presumed to be normal. Without thinking, you let your eyes close, feeling the bottom of his chin rest gently near your head.
You began imagining sitting around a warm campfire, under a star-lit sky. You were enjoying the company of faces you couldn’t make out, positive that you wouldn’t get their image right anyway. But you could almost feel the bond, the stories to tell for decades shared between you all. And beside you, a comforting presence. You saw yourself smiling, resting your head on a familiar shoulder as Halsin hummed a soft tune, his vibrations sending enticing chills down your spine. You smiled, both in this imagination, and while you stood wrapped up in Halsin’s arms.
You felt Halsin’s lower half move away from you a little, already missing the warmth he provided, but his arms remained securely around you. The sound of a distant rumble in his throat, almost something of a groan hit your ears, but you couldn’t be too sure if he was just taking another breath. Whatever it was, it made a spark tickle in your abdomen, and you had to clench your teeth to try and quell the sudden pleasurable feeling.
You weren’t sure how much longer you spent in each other’s embrace, or who made the first move to end this moment of peace. But you were both pulling away from one another, still connected by your hands holding each other’s forearms. You paused, staring up at the pools of genuine care in his mesmerizing eyes.
“Will you be okay?” you inquired, when what you really wanted to ask was ‘maybe you can stay?’ But a lingering fear wouldn’t allow you to, despite it gradually waning by the second.
“As long as you are, then yes.” He rubbed his thumb along your forearm, still hanging onto you. “Finding you at all is more than I could’ve ever dreamed of. And I will spend the rest of time being thankful, until my flesh finally yields to nature.”
Your lips parted, eyes darting between his. He left you speechless again, the sincerity in his words, the strength in his tone despite the sadness that made its home there. He stared deeply at you, perhaps waiting for you to completely sever the connection for he lacked the strength to do so himself. You glanced at his lips, how soft they looked, pressed together uneasily as Halsin watched you.
A flutter dashed inside your stomach, your speeding heart anticipating your next move as your gaze lingered on his lips. You exhaled softly, glancing at the scar on his chin, your finger itching to trace it but not wanting to let go of Halsin’s arms. Your gaze rested on his tattoo, where it passed down his cheek. So you leaned upward, pressing some of your weight on your toes. Halsin lowered a bit, assisting you, and slightly tilted his head, exposing more of his tattoo.
And when your soft lips pressed against his warm skin, a fierce electric spark jolted you backward. Your knees buckled and you nearly fell were it not for strong hands already catching you.

Happy new year!! ♡(> ਊ <)♡ Hope you're having a great holiday 💓💓 I was just gonna ask first if you write for Capitano? If not that's totally fine! (/^-^(^ ^*)/
But if it's possible, I was hoping for a Capitano one of Cuddles and plushies? Cause imagine him being away for years due to some of his expeditions that takes a very long time to complete and imagine too his reaction seeing how much his darling yearning for him 😫
Hehe also a little bit angst/comfort with Venti?? Who's always out and about drinking and coming home late at night. So maybe an argument happened when they're just looking out for Venti before reader decided to make a plushie. It's really up to you 😊💞
I NEVER IMAGINED THIS TURINGING ITN OA SERIES HAAHAHHAHA. yeah, of course! I'm not emmersed in Capitanos' story, so I'll just make shit up.
Sorry for the late post! I had a lot of work for school and I’m so so sorry for how rushed and off this is. I hope you enjoyed it regardless but I do feel really bad.
————
Not proofread!
Venti
It is a personal trait of his that no one seems to be bothered by. Every night he sits at the tavern, and every night he forgets that you wait for him.
"Y/nnnnn. Where are you~?” hearing his footsteps near closer, you poke your head out to look down the hall. Seeing him struggle at discarding his shoes, he lifts his to greet you with a closed eyed smile, “ahh there you are! C’mere, I missed you!” Arms opening in expectation of a hug, he pauses when you seat him to take his shoes off for him.
“You’ve come home late, and you’ve been drinking again.” Placing his shoes aside you put your hands on his lap, “I wished to see you-“ “And I’m here!” He says, resulting your head adding more weight to his legs. “Love you can hardly stand.” Sighing to keep yourself calm, you silently rise to kiss his head before speaking,
“I hope you understand that I’m beginning to worry about you.” His rounded eyes never seem to hold any seriousness, not understanding how this affects you.
“But I didn’t have a lot! Promise! so let’s talk about it later, I wanna hold you okay?” leaning forward on his seat, he wraps his arms around your torso, face squishing into you. does he not care even the slightest?
“Okay..”
Nuzzling his body further into you, his muffled voice could only faintly be coherent.
“I’m sorry.” Squeezing you impossible tighter, he feels your grasp loop around his shoulders, the side of your face laying on the crown of his head.
“I know.”
And through his covered vision, he sees it. A delicate little plush that seems to be hand made, most likely by you.
It rests along the windowsill, taunting him for all his wrongdoings. And that’s all it took for an overwhelming amount of guilt to erupt within his chest. how you forgive him so easily?
Lips quivering and eyes shutting to rid the water in his eyes, he starts to cry.
“Nonono y/n, I’m really sorry.”
“It’s okay, I know, so come home that’s all I ask.”
—
“Oh that? Yeah I made it. You weren’t here often, and I missed you a lot”
“Yeah..but you could have told me! No need for that silly thing!”
You threaten to leave him for your plush often.
Capitano
“In a few weeks time, I’ll be leaving.” His voice was neutral, and his demeanour unreadable. You two were sitting at the table, and he only now decides to tell you?
You understand that his line of work is not merciful to his schedule, but you wished there be a longer advance in when he attends his duties.
Sighing with a smile, you pull the last remaining string to a knot.
“I’ll just make sure this little cutie gets all the attention when you are gone.” Raising the substitute partner for him to see. “But of course I understand that you need to go, just be safe and don’t die on me.” You say kissing his nose.
“When have I ever been in a situation where I’m losing.”
That was 2 years ago, and not a day has gone by where you haven’t been on his mind. Worrying if you are truly okay being alone, not knowing that you are thinking the same.
You know he could very well handle himself, but what if he doesn’t come home this time?
You shake your head to rid the thought.
It was a cold day and you underestimated the weather yet again, you arrived home from a grocery outing are found yourself relieved once you opened the door. Kicking your shoes off at the entrance as your gaze was focused on the task, you were met with the unexpected.
“Welcome home, oh.. if you dress like that you’ll fall ill, how many times must I tell you this love?.”
you immediately freeze, eyes wide as you drop your bag of ingredients. Turning to meet the source, your hands slap over your mouth as you feel tears well in your eyes. Slowly, you walk to the man and hug him as tight as you could. Cheeks mushing into his chest, you sigh. “I missed you.”
Lifting your head and meeting his soft stare, he leans in and kisses your pink tinted nose.
“I’m home.”
“You kept this?” “Leave that alone! That’s my beloved plush.”
“Y/n…. Love, I’m right here.”

Nina and OA Story
The actress who plays Nina also plays in a tv show called the sniper where she’s the wife to a ex-soldier and has a little girl and they are hunted down,I had a crazy au story what if Nina had a kid with someone who was ex-military but they didn’t get married but it was like she was in high school and stuff when it happened and Oa finds out she has a little girl and is there for her and they end up together
Requested by @CSCVS
A/N: I really hope you like this ! I was so excited to write this !! If you like my work please comment like and reblog it means a lot to see interactions on my work
NIna’s POV
Working for the FBI was a dream come true. I didn’t think it would happen considering everything that happened.
But looking down at my FBI badge it was all surreal. Everyone always told me that being a teen mom I couldn’t achieve my dreams
. But i was determined to show my daughter that I could. I wanted nothing but a better life for her.
I bounced around a little bit and I was doing some undercover work. Then i got tapped to help out in the JOC and i jumped at the chance. I knew it would lead me to some good things ahead. It was a too good opportunity for me to pass up.
The nerves were real though. Always starting somewhere new was hard. Getting to know everyone was always so awkward.
The big day was finally here and i pushed down the nerves. I woke up a little earlier to get dressed.
Luna was still sleeping so i had to be quiet. I got up and got dressed and did my make up and everything for the day.
After i walked down the stairs and had a little coffee mediation. Trying to clear my head and calm my nerves down.
After a little bit of time. I was broken out of my million thoughts when I heard Luna moving around upstairs.
I knew it was time to get going and grabbed my stuff and doubled checked I had everything.
“Hey Luna can you come down here for a second” I yelled
“coming “ she yelled down
She ran down the stairs still her in PJ’s of course. I just looked at her and rolled my eyes of course she was pushing to be on time.
“Hey baby i gotta go i don’t know how long i’ll be tonight so be careful and be safe” I said walking over and kissing the top of her head.
“Bye mom i’ll be fine like always good luck today you got this” She said trying to squirm underneath my touch.
“I love you” I said
“I love you” She said
She ran back up stairs after that. I just prayed she was on time for school today. I walked out the door and headed to my car.
The ride down was quiet. I didn’t even turn the radio because I was so in my thoughts i totally forgot to.
I got to the Fed building and pulled in . A building I was so familiar with but this feeling was just so different.
I took a deep breath and then headed inside. I was fidgeting with my ID i was wearing the entire time up my anxiety was kicking my ass today.
The ride up stairs felt like it took forever. I just wanted to go upstairs and at the same i didn’t i couldn't explain it.
Finally i reached my destination and i just looked in awe at the commotion. I didn’t spend a lot of time up here so it was cool to see everything happening in real time.
I looked around to see if I could see Jubal or Isobel anywhere. I was busy looking every where but in front of me because i accidentally ran into a tall man.
“Wow omg I’m so sorry” I said looking up at him.
He was cute there was no denying that. He was tall and tan and had black hair that you could tell had some curls in there. He flashed a big smiled and he looked down at me
“No worries I’m Omar but everyone calls me OA you must be Nina” He said
“Yeah that’s me how um did you know” I asked scrunching up my face.
“I know mostly everyone around here and Jubal gave me the heads ups” He said
“Oh yeah right makes sense sorry” I said
“Don’t even worry about it here let me get this” OA said grabbing my bag.
“Wow what a gentleman thank you” I said
“Come on your over here with me” He said.
We walked over to my new temporary desk and sitting in Maggies old desk just felt wrong like I was taking her space. I could feel OA look over at me and It just made me feel more bad.
“Hey it’s okay Maggie wouldn’t you mind keeping her space warm and don’t worry were all excited your here” OA said.
He made me feel better instantly and that giant smile just melted me.
“Thank you really and I know under better circumstances that I wouldn’t be here but I appreciate you saying it” I told him
“Look of course I love Maggie and she’s gonna get better but in the meantime were all glad you stepped up we heard a lot of good things about you” OA said
“Thank you and same to you Jubal told me all about you guys ex ranger that’s incredible” I said to him
I swear when I said that his whole face turned red and he had this even bigger smile on his face it was really cute to see
“Thank you and you to Undercover ops that’s hella bad ass” He said to me
“No thank you and yeah no big deal honestly” I said trying to push it down and not over talk. ‘
I could also feel my face heating up and sense I was hella white it showed a lot more than him.
Suddenly we were broken out of our conversation when Jubal walked over to us smiling.
“Hey you guys meant already cool good yeah let’s go we got a case let’s go” Jubal said.
“Come on” OA said to me
We walked inside the JOC and some people looked around to see me and gave me that awkward smile.
I nodded and smiled back and kept my head up and tried to focus on the case that was being presented.
Kelly was presenting. A young girl was murdered last night and it hit hard because she was just a little older than my daughter.
“Alright you guys go to the scene Tiff and Scola will head and let the parents know” Jubal said.
“Okay let’s go” I said
Me and OA headed back to our desk when suddenly my phone started ringing and when I looked down I was upset by who it was.
Josh my ex and my daughters father. He was constantly in and out of her life and blamed his time in the military for it.
He always seemed like he had stuff going on and said he was struggling. Which was hard because when we were kids stuff just seemed different between us.
Like we were in love and we were happy and I thought we would be together forever.
That was a entire life time ago and now I was over it and had moved on. My heart just broke for my daughter. Because I knew she deserved better.
I hesitated on answering and decided on the end not to. What ever he wanted it wasn’t that important and it could wait.
I put my phone away and I think there was a look on my face because OA looked at me with a confused look on his face.
“Hey is everything okay” He asked
“Yeah it’s good I’m okay it was nothing” I said
OA gave me a look like he didn’t believe what i was telling him. He seemed worried but he didn’t want to overstep.
We grabbed our stuff and we headed out after that. The elevator ride was quiet down and it seemed like there was some tension in the air.
There was a part of me who wondered if i should address it or leave it be. I was worried because i didn’t want to seem standoffish and rude.
I didn’t want to start off this partnership in the wrong way so I decided to speak up.
“Hey uh sorry about earlier I didn’t mean to sound rude it was just my daughter’s father” I said
OA looked at me with a surprised look on his face. I was starting to wonder if i had over stepped.
“Wow is everything okay between the two of you it seemed rough” OA said
He then looked at me with instant regret and he was probably feeling awkward just like I was.
“No no it’s okay and yeah your right it’s hard between us we were teen parents and then he went to the military and he kind of changed ever sense that” I said
The elevator went off and we both got out. We walked out to the cars and then OA spoke up
“I’m sorry about that you deserve better that” OA said
“Thanks I really appreciate that” I told him.
“Of course yeah Im here if you need anything” OA said
“Same here” I told him.
We walked over to the car after that. We got in and the car ride was silent after that I just kind of looked out the window.
We reached the crime scene and got out. We walked over and a detective walked over to us
“Georgia Bailey 18 years old no suspects but the murder weapon a knife is right over here” She said.
“Anything else we know” I asked.
“Nothing this is where you guys come in” She said.
I looked down at the poor girl and she looked like she was sleeping. But at the same time it was hard to see.
She had multiple stab wounds and there was blood every where. Just looking at her hands she fought like hell.
She had her whole life ahead of her and some horrible bastard took it all away from her.
“You okay” OA whispered to me
“Im fine sometimes it’s just hard seeing a young girl like this hits close to home” I said.
“Yeah i get that It’s gotta be hard you need to take a moment” OA asked me
He even gave me a look and his face was so soft. It just made me melt like I could tell him everything and he would listen.
“I’m okay I promise” I said smiling up at him.
“Let’s get ERT in here and then head back” OA said
I saw something out of the corner of my eye that really caught my eye. My heart sunk into my stomach.
It was a bracelet and I knew Instantly where it came from. Josh was a part of that club. It was full of ex-military men and they all got together and would get drunk and share stories.
The bracelet was sitting just a little bit away from the body. It looked like it got ripped off when they were running away.
OA could see the look on my face.
“Nina hey what’s going on” OA asked
“This bracelet I know it. It’s from the Warmen club” I said
“Okay and how do you know that” OA asked
“Because Josh is involved with them there up to no good over there” I said
“So we got a lead can you talk to him see if he knows anything” OA asked
“Uh yeah I can try I’ll call him back” I said
“Are you sure about it” OA asked as he had a worried look on his face.
“No but we need a lead and this can help” I said
We both walked away and we walked over to the car. We got in and I pulled out my phone.
I pulled up Josh’s number and dialied it. After a couple if rings he picked up and I could feel my heart stop beating.
“Hey Nina nice surprise” Josh said
“Hey you called earlier” I said
“Yeah uh is there any way we can meet and talk it’s kind of important” He said
He said it with a worry in his voice and it was something I never heard from him before. I knew it was serious.
“Meet me at Chai on 6th ave i’ll be there in 15” I said
I hung up the phone and looked over at OA. He gave me a look on his face with a mix of worried and confused.
“He said he wants to meet said it’s important and I never heard him like this before so something is definitely wrong” I said to him
“Okay let’s go i’m coming in though” OA said
“Look he’ll get spooked just stay a table over okay I can handle him” I said
“Fine, let's go,” He said.
We drove off and there it was again this awkward silence. I felt bad because the beginning of this partnership was already starting on the wrong foot.
I decided to say something again because I didn’t want this to be drawn out.
“Hey again I’m sorry we just meant and this all getting real tense real fast” I said to him.
OA let out of a breathe and he looked over at me taking his eyes off the road for a brief second.
“Hey no it’s okay were just rolling off the punches none of this is on you okay were doing everything we can to help this girl and I got you back” OA said
“Thank you” I said
I could feel my face heating up and I wasn’t sure why. It was like I was nervous and gitty at hearing him say he had my back.
The rest of the way was quiet and I couldn’t help but think over and over what was going on. Was Josh involved ? Was there something else going on
We finally made our way to the coffee shop and I got out first. OA went and parked and would come in a few minutes after me. I looked around to see where he was.
I could feel my hand shaking and I tried to control my breathing. I finally spotted him sitting in the corner and he was bouncing around.
I walked over to him and he finally saw me.
“Hey Josh calm down what’s going on” I asked.
“Nina hey hey thank you for coming” He said
“Let’s sit down and talk about this” I said to him.
“Fine okay it’s about the club” Josh said
“What’s going on” I asked him
I looked down and noticed his bracelet was missing. I never saw him without it and my anxiety instantly went through the roof. This did not look good. I looked around and saw OA standing at a table drinking coffee.
There was a bad feeling in my gut. Something about this wasn’t right I could feel it. I kept looking around and saw another member of the group sitting at another table.
What the hell was happening here.
“Hey what is going on and why is Erik here” I asked
“Nina I’m sorry okay I messed up they said they would take her” Josh
“Take who Josh” I yelled
My anxiety was at an all time high now all I could think about was Luna and was she okay.
“Where is Luna where the hell is my daughter” I yelled again
“I don’t know okay” Josh yelled.
I was so worked up I didn’t even notice OA had walked over.
“Hey what the hell is going on” OA asked standing in front of me
“Who the hell are you” Josh asked
“Don’t worry about me now answer the damn question” OA said
He puffed up his chest and he was mad. I could tell how protective he was being.
“I swear I don’t know where she is okay that’s why I’m calling” Josh said
“What did they make you do” I asked
“Some things i couldn’t I wouldn’t so i need to make sure she’s okay” Josh said
I picked up my phone and dialed Luna. It just kept ringing and ringing and my heart just went slower and slower.
She didn’t answer so I kept trying over and over. OA walked over to me and placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“We gotta let the team know” He said in a soft voice.
“Yeah yeah I know” I said my voice cracking
Suddenly i got a text on my phone. And it was a picture of Luna and she was tied up and sitting somewhere that I didn’t know.
“Oh my god” was all i could get out
I turned and Josh and started running after him
“What the hell did you do” I yelled.
OA caught me and held me so I didn’t fully attack anyone.
“Nina I’m so sorry” Josh said
“Were going to get her I promise you but this is not the way” OA said.
“Yeah” Was all I could get out.
We walked out after that Josh was yelling in the background and I just blocked it out. I was going to find Luna without him.
I knew Josh was bad but for it bring our daughter down with him was another level. My poor girl all alone out there and scared.
This damn city should be afraid of the hell I was going to give them to find her

a job well done - S. Scola × C. Hart (OC)
▪︎ Stuart is an fbi agent & his oc girlfriend Caroline is an nypd sergeant
▪︎ smut, fluff & a hint of angst
▪︎ let me know what you think. also; to the one who wanted it the most, sorry it took so long for me to post. life happens.
Another body means another case. But this one's different. I may just be a NYPD Sargeant but i know this case belongs to the FBI, and boy do i know someone...
I type in the memorized number and press call. I bring the phone up to my ear as it rings once, then twice before he answers. "hey Caroline, what's up?" "got a case for fbi. it's serious." i'm sure he can hear the tension in my voice as i talk. "okay, i'll tell my boss." "my team is available to use if needed." "thanks." we talk about the dead boby thats currently in front of me for a bit then get ready to go 26 Fed.
-
We team up and work things out on this guy: who he is, who his friends are, where he works, where he lives, etc., and end up arresting a few of his buddies — who made us run — and scared them into giving us a location on where he is which leads us to where we are now: on an undercover stint.
Me and Scola are in plain clothes but the difference; scola has his gun hidden on his back and i have it on my hip with my badge. He's waiting on the guy to show — they never do — and catch them in the act in order to be able to arrest him.
A late revelation reveals that he was a no-show because he got a call from someone that this was set up — idiots — so we head back to 26 fed and regroup.
Now that they know we're cops, there's no need to hide in plain clothes.
After a few triangulations, we find out where he's planning to set the bomb so we strap up and get ready.
He's in FBI gear and i'm in NYPD gear, which is khaki pants, a back shirt over a bullet proof vest and an nypd jacket, brandishing my badge and holstered gun on my side.
We get to the location and with our weapons ready and a warrant in-hand, we go in full force and everything happens fast; we catch a few people but the main person made a run for it making us run, again, so Scola went after him and after handing off a perp, i follow behind him.
We run behind him, following him across the street, into an alley and through an abandoned building then out the back. The perp somehow pulls out a knife and with Scola being the closest, grips it with his life and leaps towards him. "Scola, watch out!!" i scream as he ducks his head to keep from colliding with the guys knife.
They fight for a few minutes back and forth, Scola trying his damnedest to pry the knife from his hand all while trying to not get cut in the process. The guy has Scola pressed against a car with knife in his right hand trying to push it towards Scola's face. "Drop the knife! This is my last warning, and I won't ask you again, so drop the knife. Now!"
He doesn't listen and so with permission, i move my weapon to his shoulder and fire, the bullet hitting his shoulder dead on, knocking him to the ground as his knife slides away from him. Scola grabs his cuffs and grabs the guy and pulls him up handcuffing him then handing him off. "good work, sergeant hart." he sets a hand on on my shoulder as i holster my gun. "thanks. you too. close call, but good work." he shyly smiles and walks over to the sidewalk to give a call to his boss on the case.
-
After tying up somethings and filling out paperwork, one by one fbi agents leave the office, leaving just me, scola, maggie, oa and tiffany. They talk about a few things between the four of them as i call my boss and tell him the good news. "yessir. we got him." "well done. i want the paperwork on my desk by monday morning." "yessir, you got it."
I smile as i see Stuart walk up to me. "perfect. have a good night." "you too." i hang up and turn my attention to Stuart. "hey babe. you good?" he nods his head. "yeah, i'm good. you?" "yeah im good. just let my boss know that we got the guy. he wants the paperwork by monday." he smiles as he grabs my hand and links them together. "let's go home."
We get in the vehicle — obvi with Stuart in the driver seat — and make our way home. But i decide to give him a little show; i slowly inch my hand up his thigh and settle it on his clothed member. I look up and see him swallow his saliva and grip the steering wheel a little harder.
I undo his button and slowly pull his zipper down. "caroline, babe, w-what are you d-doing?" "just relax. this is for you. for a job well done. for dealing with the whole knife situation in a good way. but for also not getting hurt. so keep your eyes on the road handsome." he chuckles and lets me continue.
I pull out his dick from its confines and rub my thumb across the tip as precum leaks from it. I lick the top of his dick as i drop my head to fit as much as i can in my mouth and start sucking, bobbing my head up and down.
my goal is to make him cum before we get home — we're 10 minutes away — so i suck and bob making sure to pay special attention to his balls and do everything i know to make him succumb to me.
"p-please, don't stop. feels, so so good." i smile as i suck like my life depends on it.
I speed up as i realize that we're approaching our road so i go harder and just as we're pulling in our drive, he spills in my mouth. I pull back and let go with a pop as i wipe my mouth clean with the back of hand. "shit. i didn't know you could do that." i laugh as i get out the car and head inside. "yeah, that's what happens when you turn me on." "wait, i turned you on? how?" i walk up to him and grab his tie and pull him to me. "how you handled the struggle with the knife. you didn't let him overcome you."
He smashes our lips together and turns us around to push me up against the door. We make out for a bit until he picks me up and takes us to the bedroom, shedding clothes behind us as we go.
Hands roam each others bodies and kisses are planted as we try to get close to each other as possible. Stuart grabs my hands and puts them atop the pillow and holds them down in place with his free hand.
After lining himself up with my entrance he thrusts inside me as curse words spill from our lips.
Hurried breaths and grunts can be beard throughout the room as our sex drive goes through the roof.
"fuck." he laughs as he kisses behind my ear then says, "thats it. let it all out. i wanna hear you. don't hold back. c'mon." i let out all my emotions as my orgasm gets closer.
A little bit later and he's spilling inside me, twitching and throbbing to calm down. Stuart had a vein that goes from the base of his dick to the tip and it tends to be prominent when we fuck. So normally he tends to take longer to relax and calm down after he nuts.
I cuddle up to him and drap my arm across his chest, feeling his heartbeat against my elbow. I fold my arm and draw circles on his chest as it rises and falls.
We fall asleep cuddled together and just let things be as neither wakes till the next day arrives and the sun peaks out, shining out through the sky.

State of strings (March '24)
Oceans Apart
OA!Captain finally managed to get the new space station running smoothly and spent some more time as usual on recovering inside the empty construct.
Building some rapport and trust with Rajk (PA), even gaining some respect for it's knowledge about how all this works. And how quickly it caught on with the fact that the official story of the companies history is...not quite the truth.
Meanwhile Shiny's Jealousy was painful for one OA!Shal who was 1) already taken off guard by having the usual routine disrupted by OA!Captains absence and 2) has been suddenly designated both punching bag and beloved cuddle toy to cry into while having absolute no way to make sense of whats happening. Or how it could modify it's behaviour to make it stop happening.
But hey, it got a Puzzle Feeder for treats! :D
It also got locked out of it's enclosure when Shiny left for a vacation
Unused Words
"I am not a Child!", says the person making the second worst decision she could make in this situation.
"I don't need you to make decisions for me!", continues the person, pushing away the only people looking a the relationship and going: "Uuuh does this all seem kinda toxic to anyone?"
Making his stand in UW!Captains office, in front of most of xem's inner circle, by declaring that she wants to be at xis side, UW!Shal has now sealed his fate to, well suffer.
Cause yes, this relationship is toxic as fuck and that same inner circle were the only ones attempting to steer things into possibly improving a bit.
With the two of them now in a relationship of deeply undefined boundaries, UW!Captain took a couple days off (aka left said inner circle to figure out how to succesfully figure out how too crunch the current project to the deadline on their own.)
Cause there are things to celebrate, drugs to take, sex to have and new rules to be established without there being clear communication between them.
Partially due to that whole drugs and sex thing, but deeper than that for the same reasons that this whole situation has slowly escalated to this point: UW!Shals inability to set a boundary even if it would save his life. And UW!Captain taking that silence as implicit consent.
Either way, any kind of official ceremony will have to wait until after Business Stressors have calmed down and worked through, but truly, who needs that if you can burn your signature into your conquests sternum?
Hunting Grounds
The first game concluded in a loss for all as HG!Shal actively fucked up in the last Minigame just to spite a person who wasn't even at the table to witness it.
Then, instead of letting lym smugly gloat at them in person, the minigame group got split off and brought into storage while their next game was being prepared.
There gal proceeded to not dispel all the distrust gained from lyx prior stunt as gal was more occupied with slowly losing lyx mind about being trapped inside a cage, inside a locked room, inside an unknown facilty, all while having none of lyx usual coping methods readily available.
(This is where I went on a sidetrip figuring out HG!Shal's childhood and tbh that whole thing is gonna go into a different post, sorry >.>)
Second Game "Dancing in the rain"
Setting: Abandoned Themepark reclaimed by Jungle
Players: 5
Goal: Survive
Additional Rules: none
Given the already non existend trust, everyone voted to NOT have HG!Shal be part of the group. Including lym, given that gal was just happy to be outside finally. On a whim, HG!Captain managed to establish a secret signal with HG!SHal juuuust in case.
And so the players split with one going to make a camp somewhere else while the rest would set up in a cave near a river. Luckily a couple of them had picked up some outdoor survival skills in prior games, cause while they were given some starting equipment, none of them believed that that would be enough for whatever the game had in store for them.
Over time they would slowly explore the surrouding area. Both to figure out what other ressources are to be found and, slightly more important, figure out what this game was actually about. So far they have only found some empty merch stores and a barely stable rollercoaster track
It has now been a bit over a week and the rain started to fall...
#this took so long I kept having to go back and add things x_x#voice of origin#actually madd#maladaptive daydreaming#paraportal#p: shal#p: captain#p: shiny#string of unused words#string of oceans apart#string of hunting grounds#p: rajk

from the mouths of babes
“Hey there Big Bill, what a nice surprise,” Barry smiled as he walked into the meeting room and found Billy Batson sitting in Marvel’s designated spot. “Hold on a tick,” he commented before zipping to the kitchen and back, depositing a snack in the boy’s hands. “Iris always packs too many hard boiled eggs for my lunch but they’re filling and full of protein.”
“When are you going to stop giving me food every time you see me?” Billy asked with an eye roll as he bit into the egg anyway. Barry carefully took in the boy’s slightly hollowed cheeks and thin wrists, not nearly as bad when he’d first met the kid but still not good enough.
“Yeesh when my favorite uncle brought me treats, I always said thank you. Kids these days,” Barry teased gently, ruffling Bill’s hair as he passed before going to his own seat. “So why aren’t you Cap right now? You’re almost never on the Watchtower as your charming self.”
“You know I appreciate it, Barry and your guess is as good as mine,” Billy shrugged polishing off the egg and leaning back into the comically big chair. “Bats asked that I come to the meeting but told me specifically to come up as Billy and not Marvel. Maybe he needs a kid’s perspective or something.”
“Or perhaps he wants a filthy mouth,” Diana said with a mildly chastising glare as she entered and took her own seat. “I overheard you talking to Robin earlier. Those are not the sorts of words a young man, much less a member of the Justice League should be using.”
“Sorry,” Billy mumbled, shrinking in his seat. “It’s hard to censor myself around Jay when we get to chatting.”
“You hardly have room to talk, Wonder Woman. You say a great deal of offensive language in the midst of battle, both mentally and out loud.” J’onn countered with a small smile as he took his place. “Flash, William, a pleasure as always.”
“Dead languages don’t count,” Diana defended sternly but her eyes glittered with mirth. Her small wink in Billy’s direction promised that she’d teach him a few of those forgotten swears before he returned to Earth.
“Me thinks the lady doth protest too much,” Barry grinned back, elbowing his coworker in the arm. “Now when is Bats going to show up and tell us about this mystery meeting?”
“Now,” Bruce stated, setting a small stack of papers at the head of the table. Most everyone startled save for J’onn who had been the only one to notice Batman’s surprise arrival.
“Holy shit,” Billy muttered to himself, adjusting himself having half rolled out of his chair at Batman’s sudden appearance. “Warn a kid next time.”
“Language,” Diana, Barry and J’onn all said at the same time. Bruce did not, he’d tried for almost a year to tame Jason’s vocabulary with very little success.
“The first official meeting of the Justice League Morality Committee is now in session,” Bruce continued, handing out various folder packets.
“A morality committee, interesting,” J’onn commented, opening his packet
“The League is expanding by the day, getting involved not just in world ending battles but also politics and day to day problems. You all were carefully selected as the moral backbone of the League, sans Superman who is still with Lantern on Oa but will be at the next meeting. I wish to discuss and debate certain controversial League topics in order to determine the correct path.”
“Ah, that’s why you wanted Bill and not Cap here,” Barry nodded to himself as he flipped through his packet.
“Huh?” Billy questioned, staring at his unopened packet, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “I don’t get it, Marvel is literally the embodiment of good and righteousness. He’d probably be way better at this than me.”
“Everything good about Marvel comes from you, Billy,” Diana demurred with fond eyes. “He is an admired and strong teammate with a good heart, but he lacks your human perspective, your weaknesses that grant you such astounding empathy.”
“Marvel is a god,” J’onn concurred. “As are many of the Justice League or as close as one gets to it. You, William, are a boy living a hard won, honest life and thus you can see things from that perspective that we adults cannot.”
“Is that supposed to be some kinda short joke?” Billy mumbled in embarrassment. He brought up his packet to hide his flushed cheeks, missing the brief exchange among the fellow Leaguers. For all that they relied on Captain Marvel for his magic and strength, it was Billy they often sought out for the strength of his heart.
“Moving on,” Bruce interrupted. “One of the US Intelligence Agencies recently reached out regarding our willingness to send some of our more stealthy members in for recognizance into countries and organizations with known ties to terrorist groups.”
“So we’d be spies,” Bill frowned, setting down the pamphlet. “Terrorists kinda suck but that still seems to be crossing some lines.”
“How so?” Bruce questioned. Billy began speaking, not nearly as eloquent or put together as Captain Marvel and yet the world’s most powerful heroes sat there quietly and listened to what the child had to say.
#i wrote this in 20 min don't judge me#billy batson#this is less a story and more shameless billy appreciation leave me alone#just#the idea of Marvel being amazing but also *Billy* having worth to the League#of Billy's steady moral head and very down to the ground perspective being a kind of moral guidepost for the JLA#how can gods and billionaires and adults know the kind of suffering billy has and still currently deals with#he has NO power outside Marvel and offers such a fresh perspective#also the idea of a Morality Committee would be such a great idea#and Billy NOT Marvel who is Bill but also an adult and a little too perfect and pure to give truly honest answers#would be a great addition#supes should be there to but adfghjkl I just watched injustice and Im still mad at him#so I sent him to space#anyway a 12 year old homeless kid is one of the moral tenants of the JLA and they all know it in this essay i will-

It's Heartbreak Or It's Love, There's No Such Thing As Halfway
Guy Gardner x Lantern!Reader
Word Count: 2.7K Warnings: Explicit Language, Angst, Death
Author's Note: Based on this ask right here that I finally managed to do! Enjoy my angsty story! -Thorne
**********************************************************************
Green Lanterns had a well-known reputation for being the worst luck bearers in the entire universe. Girlfriends stuffed in refrigerators, taken over by the embodied parasite of fear, family dying, personally dying, you name it, they’d been it, seen it, and felt it. Of course, the Four Corpsmen took that as a personal challenge to see who could have the worst luck amongst each other, and when Guy Gardner returned to Oa with a woman dressed in an orange exo-suit and bearing the Orange Lantern Corps symbol in tow, they decided that he had the worst luck.
Hal watched the woman poke around the room they’d all stepped into—and locked the doors—asking, “Where’d you find her?”
“I don’t know.” Guy said. “But she won’t leave me alone.”
“Why not?” Kyle piped in.
“Because she wants my ring.” He reached over and yanked the vase out of the woman’s hands. “No.”
“Mine.” She hissed, trying to take it back and he pointed at her.
“Do you want me to get out the leash again?”
Her face contorted and she went quiet, seeming to shrink on herself. “No.”
“Then behave.” Guy scowled, putting the vase back, then he looked at them. “See. This is what I’ve been dealing with for the past four days.”
“Can’t you just tell her to leave you alone?” John asked, carefully avoiding the woman as she walked behind them, knowing she was probably going for a ring.
“I did.” The Lantern retorted with a glower. “She won’t leave me alone.”
Hal waltzed right up to her, getting in her face. “Hey, you.”
She bared her teeth as if she were going to bite him and Guy griped, “No biting. We don’t bite each other.”
“Why won’t you leave our friend alone?” Hal asked and she pointed at Guy.
“Want the ring.”
“You can’t have my ring.” He shot back. “I need it.”
“Want it.”
“You can’t have it.”
“Not leaving,” she finalized, then her eyes widened, and she reached out, grabbing Hal’s wrist. “You have one too!”
The pilot was quick to yank his hand away before she could peel the ring from his finger. “No.” he warned. “We don’t take rings.”
“But I want one!” she bemoaned. “It’s pretty and I want it!”
Kyle all but collapsed on the floor in laughter. “Oh my God, we’re stuck with a gold digger. Hey, Hal, hide your wallet before she becomes another girlfriend.”
“Shut up,” he griped, and Guy shook his head.
“She’s not a girl. I don’t even know what she is.”
“What?” they all blurted out, glancing at him, then to her.
“Are you kidding me? I was on a planet that had no intelligent lifeforms. She just appeared out of nowhere and latched onto my arm.” He rolled his shoulder. “‘Bout yanked my freakin’ arm off trying to get the ring.”
“So…what is she—it?” Kyle asked, then he knelt beside her, watching curiously as she pried at one of the vents and stuck her hand inside, wiggling around for whatever she could find. “What are you?”
“Shax’ods.” She answered, then grunted when she found nothing in the vent, slinking to the next vent. “From Shaxodia.”
“That’s the planet I was on.” Guy murmured.
“Are Shaxiod’s like humans?” Kyle questioned.
She turned on him, hissing, “Shax’ods. Not Shaxiods.”
He flinched. “Sorry. Shax’ods. What exactly are they?”
“My kind,” she said, pulling open a drawer. “Shapeless. Colorless. Sentient.”
“If you’re supposed to be those, how’d you manage to become a human woman?” John inquired, regarding her as she pulled out what looked like coins and went through them, pocketing the shiniest ones.
“Wanted his ring. Couldn’t get it. Scanned it. Saw his memories. Took on image based on humans encountered.” She looked at Guy. “Can I have your ring?”
“No.” He grunted and she hissed darkly, going back to scrounging around the small drawer.
With her occupied for the moment, they huddled together, whispering fiercely. “What are we supposed to do about her?” Hal asked. “We can’t hurt her.”
“We can send her back to Larfleeze?” Kyle offered. “Isn’t he the boss of the Orange Lanterns?”
“There was only supposed to be one Orange Lantern because the greedy bastard sits on his pile of rings like Gollum.” Guy said, glancing up to see her fiddling with the door. “Where’d you get your power ring?” he called out, and her shoulders rose like she’d been caught stealing.
“Found it,” she answered. “All on my own.” She turned, meeting their eyes. “Hungry. Where is food?”
“We’ll eat later. Sit down in the chair over there.” When she scowled and didn’t move, he constructed a leash. “Do we have to—”
“No!” she shouted, prowling to the chair where she flopped down and tapped her foot obnoxiously.
“I thought Orange Lanterns were supposed to be mindless, greedy things. No coherent thoughts.” John observed her. “She’s intelligent and sentient, capable of listening to commands when someone tells her to do something.” He looked at them. “She’s different.”
Guy’s eyes narrowed. “Nice observation. Got any others?”
“Maybe we can help her get the ring off?” John offered.
***
Turns out trying to remove an Orange Lantern’s ring was like putting a cat in water. She fought tooth and nail against every construct and hand that came at her and refused to surrender her ring, even if they reasoned that she would be better without it. That ring wasn’t going anywhere from her hand, and she wasn’t leaving them anytime soon—she was their problem now.
But as the months went by, she became…less greedy, if it were believable. Her speech bettered too, now that she had to interact with humans all time, she picked up on their speech fairly quickly. She’d picked out a name for herself, “(Y/N)”—no one knew where she’d learned it, but she liked it and “it was hers”.
(Y/N) gained a few enemies within the Green Lantern Corps too. Not many people trusted her, and they had a fair reason—she couldn’t help the sticky fingers and more often than not, Guy had to drag her around and make her apologize whilst she returned the knickknacks she’d grabbed when they hadn’t been looking.
But she was a good fighter, and everyone was surprised when (Y/N)’d backed them up in a fight, though she fought savagely and with one purpose but to obtain whatever she wanted from their corpses. Guy spent a lot of time with her, working with her greed, training her to fight less savagely and use her head more.
And to their shock, she’d calmed down a bit, though she was still an Orange Lantern, and everyone knew it. Though they couldn’t deny that she’d wormed her way into their hearts with her easily annoyed spirit and character.
***
(Y/N) stomped into the med bay, plopping down on one of the treatment beds. “Heal me.”
Hal blinked, looking at her with confusion, one hand still scratching at the sheet of paper. “Excuse me?”
“Heal. Me.” She commanded. “I am sick and I need healing.”
“I’m not a doctor but I’ll do my best,” he replied, walking over. “What seems to be the problem?”
“This body reacts oddly,” (Y/N) answered. “The organs flutter and beat fast. I do not like it and I want it to stop.” Hal cocked a brow, reaching up to feel her throat. “What are you doing?” she accused, glaring at him.
He glared right back. “I’m trying to feel your lymph nodes, (Y/N). That’s how human doctors learn people are sick.” She eyed him, but let Hal continue, and he placed his pointer and ring at one side of her throat, his thumb on the other. Gently, he massaged up and down, then said, “Swallow for me.”
She did so and he frowned. “Nothing seems wrong.” He constructed a stethoscope, putting it on.
“What is that?” (Y/N) worried.
“Stethoscope. I can listen to your heart and other organs for that fluttering you’re talking about.” Hal’s brows furrowed and after a moment, he pulled away. “I don’t hear anything, (Y/N). Your heart is beating normally for someone in your condition.”
“And that is?” she asked.
“Healthy.”
Before she could speak, Guy burst through the doors and sprinted to a drawer. “Hi guys! Bye guys!” he disappeared as quickly as he’d come with a bunch of bandages in his arms.
“I don’t even want to know what that was—”
“The organs are fluttering!” (Y/N) shouted, grabbing the end of the stethoscope; she yanked Hal over and he jerked to his knees in front of her with a grunt, though he went still when he heard the rapid thumping from her chest. “You hear it!” she exclaimed with wide eyes. “See! I am sick!”
Hal gazed at her curiously, then reached up with a free hand, softly pressing his palm to her cheek. “What—what are you doing?”
He grinned. “You’re not sick, (Y/N).”
“I am!” she retorted. “These organs are beating rapidly, and I feel sick.”
“You’re in love.” He nodded his head to the doors. “And I’m going to guess that since Guy was the one that made your heart race, that he’s the one you’re in love with.”
(Y/N) went as still as a wooden board, eyes wide with shock, then she jerked up and away from him. “Do not tell a soul.”
“It’s not a bad—”
“NO ONE!” she bellowed. “TELL NO ONE!”
Hal raised his hands in defense. “Alright. I won’t tell anyone.”
She seemed flustered, scared and she spun on her heel, running for the doors.
***
And as the year stretched on, Hal realized that (Y/N)’s only other emotion than total greed, was love. She followed Guy around like a puppy, always handing him trinkets she had in her pockets, and if Hal didn’t feel such a pity for the hopeless woman, he would’ve found it endearing.
He also realized that she had no idea how to express love besides using her greed. And he only realized it when she’d shown up at his room in the middle of the Oa night and demanded he tell her how to show affection. He’d tried his best, having to bite back laughter at how her face pinched and she squirmed with discomfort at having to share her feelings and everything she had.
“Guy’s not…a typical…guy…you know?”
“No.”
“Okay, I could’ve phrased that better. Guy’s not impressed by words. He likes action. Actions speak louder than words to him.”
“Actions are inanimate. They do not speak.”
“Yeah, but…okay, say that you told Guy you liked his haircut.”
“I do.”
“I know you do, but you didn’t let me finish. If you told Guy, he’d probably brush it off. But! If you gave him a six back of beer, he’d thank you and crack one open right there.”
“So…I should find alcohol for him?”
“I mean it’s that or a playboy.”
“What is a playboy?”
“Just find alcohol.”
“…Where?”
“I’ll show you.”
And God, he wished he hadn’t because all she did was thrust the beer in Guy’s hands and stomp off, leaving his friend more confused than anything. Hal had pulled him aside the day after and explained the situation, even though he’d sworn not to. And when (Y/N) found out—and she only did because Guy distanced the two of them—she was not happy.
She was furious and cursing him in a language not even his ring could translate. (Y/N)’d screamed and cursed so much that Hal Jordan actually feared that he was going to be killed by her. That or she was going to become a Red Lantern, and he didn’t know what was worse. But when tears had fallen down her cheeks and she’d yelled, “It was not your right!” Hal felt terrible about opening his mouth.
And then when Guy had brought an old flame to a party, Hal watched (Y/N)’s emotions reach a boiling point and he’d narrowly managed to get her out of the room and to a distant field before she completely exploded. When she’d calmed though…it was a sorry sight to behold.
“My organs hurt.”
“Yeah, heartbreak’s a bitch.”
“My heart is not breaking.”
“It’s a figure of speech, (Y/N). It means you’re sad.”
“Oh…I see.”
“Yeah.”
“It is because I am an Orange Lantern, is it not?”
“I don’t think so. Guy’s just…not sharing your feelings.”
“His lover is pretty.”
“She is.”
“I want to be loved.”
“We all do. But there’s other fish in the sea.”
“What?”
“There’s someone else out there for you.”
“I want Guy. He…sees me.”
“He sees everybody. That’s why he’s a good friend.”
“Yes…a good…friend.”
***
Hal cursed, looking at Guy and (Y/N). “You two get back into space and see if you can find where that signal went. We’ll stay here and defend the territory.”
“Got it.” Guy answered, looking back at her. “Ready?”
“Yes.” They shot to the sky and burst through the atmosphere, ready to start scanning when Guy cursed, and she glanced back at him. “What is it?”
He didn’t get a single word out when the bright green ring suddenly went dead, and his suit faded. (Y/N)’s eyes went wide as Guy’s hands went to his throat, eyes going saucer wide, and she reached out, enveloping him in orange light.
Going to his knees, he hacked and grabbed his head. “Shit, my head.”
“Your ring is dead,” she observed. “I thought you charged it?”
“Forgot.” He shook his head. “We were so tired last night that I went to bed.” He looked up at her. “Can you call them?”
“Yes. Let me—”
Warning. Ring power low. Battery at two percent.
(Y/N)’s eyes shot to her ring; he caught it. “What? What’s wrong?”
“My ring is dying too.” She murmured, then glanced between the ring on her hand and Guy. “I have to choose.” Her head turned, eyes darting to the nearby planet. “It should have enough power to get you there before it dies.”
“What are you talking about?” Guy beat on the bubble he was encased in. “(Y/N), what are you doing?”
“…The right thing.” (Y/N) floated to the bubble, placing her palm to where his was. “I know why you never felt the same. I am…a monster. Consumed by greed.” She shook her head. “I cannot feel like humans do. I am broken…but you made me think it was possible. That I could be worthy of love.” Her eyes were watery. “Of your love, Guy.”
“(Y/N),” he breathed, and she pursed her lips.
“I want to be someone you can love. I want to be someone you smile when you think about, not be ashamed of.” Pulling back, she distanced herself. “I can change. I promise I can change. I can be more than my greed.”
She raised her hand again, commanding, “Take him to the surface. Low power mode. Only exo-suits, no powers.”
With a blink, the ring came off her finger and she fought to keep herself from yanking it out of the air and putting it back on; it flew through the bubble and slid onto Guy’s hand though he was the one fighting to keep it off.
“No! (Y/N) no! Take it back!”
She smiled as the suit started disappearing from her feet and sliding up Guy’s feet. “I am doing what you would do. I am saving you.”
“I would save us both!” he shouted, eyes terrified as the suit freed her hips. “Don’t do this!”
“I have to save you,” she comforted. “Even if I cannot save myself too.” (Y/N) searched his eyes. “Thank you for making me feel like I belonged, Guy Gardner.”
“(Y/N)!”
The exo-suit disappeared from her body and the bubble popped; Guy watched in horror as she tried to breathe in but without oxygen, she couldn’t. Moments passed but they felt like hours and her eyes found his, the corner of her mouth quirking up as she went still, a trail of blood freezing on her skin as it dripped from her nose.
And Guy shot to the surface of the planet, commanded by the Avarice Ring, screaming his throat hoarse.

So, I decided to read the Justice League Last Ride. It was so fucking good, like the feels hit me so hard. But the plot twist at the end that Darkseid was possessing Hal, fucking Darkseid is possessing Hal like wtf holy shit. Correct me if im wrong, but it was more than a year that he used Hal as a puppet like holy crap? First Parallax, then Spectre, now freaking Darkseid of Apokolips. Give Hal some break, jesus.
okay okay so sorry this took a bit but i was waiting to actually read Last Ride until it was done and I have a lot on my plate, and @damthosefandoms had to find it for me because I couldn't find the series, so everyone say thank you, Julie.
so from my binge read, they don't say how long it's been. it's a "then" and "now" situation, but given how tense everything is, and that the league has had time to disband and for things to go to shit....
and Wally's mention of only non-perishable foods still being good on the Watch Tower (issue #1), my bet would be that it's been more than a year. Which, sucks.
(issue #6) like, i know they don't show what happened after Oa blew up in this series, but maybe we should organize more frequent mental health checks for the league members that spend most of their time in space. it would probably solve a lot of Hal's problems, honestly.

Lantern!Marinette 3
Part 3
@maribatmarch-2k21 Day 18: Protect
Part 1 *** Part 2
~~~~~~~~~~
It was supposed to be a fun day at the amusement park. Rides, haunted mazes, and not much else to spend a free October day (and night), but what's life without a bit of drama.
"Togetic!" An all too familiar voice called out to her. She turned and saw Wally.
"What's up Pikachu!” She smiled at him as he came up.
"Protect me please?!" he brought out the puppy eyes.
"From?"
"My team."
"They're here?"
"Yes, now hide me please." She rolled her eyes at his antics.
"Fine but I will not get involved, when your cover is in-evidently blown."
"I owe you one."
"Mazes then..."
"Food?!"
"Do you, ever think with your head not just your stomach.
"Come on Togetic."
"Sure Pikachu." They walked off and got in line for one of the many horror mazes that were set up around the park.
After three mazes they decided to do some rides while figuring out what to eat. Once they had their food they sat down, but seeing as the question has been nagging her, she had to ask.
"Why are you hiding from your team?"
"I may have... um..." He quickly turned a shade of red that rivaled his uncle's suit.
"So, it's either Ditto, Kirlia, or Chikorita." She noticed he seemed to go even redder. "Chikorita." She repeated. "Oh my gosh you're crushing on Chikorita!" She squealed.
"She's a spitfire." he sighed dreamily.
"Hm..." she thought as she finished her burger and was drinking her milkshake.
"Whatcha thinking."
"If she's a spitfire she can't be Chikorita."
"What do you have in mind..."
"Quilava."
"Keeping in Gen 3 starters," He mused.
"Yup. And she's got to be quick to deal with you so."
"That sounds like her."
"Okay now that that's settled, we still have more mazes."
"You’re not scared yet. You did run out of one already."
"I wasn't the one who barreled an actor over and tore out of the maze." She slurped her milkshake as she walked away.
"I did not!" He yelled at her back as he jogged towards her.
"Wally there you are!" A voice called out.
"Please," he turned to her and tried to beg but she retaliated with her doe eyes as she continued to drink her milkshake waiting for this show to start.
"We've been looking everywhere for you." The same girl started to talk.
By now the entirety of Wally's team was around them. The youngest, who looked closest to her age, stood next to her, on her right while the oldest of them stood to her left. The others seemed to surround Wally, so she pulled out her phone discreetly and started to record. Riolu, as she recognized after a moment, seemed to question her, so she put her index finger to her lips so he would stay quiet. Not long after did Wally finally notice his two missing teammates.
"Nettie, how could you? You were supposed to protect me."
"Can you?" she held her milkshake to Riolu and started typing. "I said I would help you avoid them, but I wouldn't get involved when you got caught." she finished the message attached the videos and sent it.
"What was that?" he glared at her, as she took back her cup and thanked RioIu.
"Oh nothing."
"How could you?!" He cried, now holding her phone.
She shrugged, walked over, and plucked her phone from his hands. "You guys can keep standing around but I'm going to go hit up some more mazes." she started to walk away.
"I'm sticking with you because I need to see that." Riolu caught up to her. "Robin." He stuck out his hand.
"Marinette," she shook his hand. "You are coming West?"
"Of course, you hit it off with Rob." He grumbled catching up to them, the rest trailing behind.
From there introductions were made and they were able to finish the mazes. Sure, she made one or two jabs at Wally, but it was his fault. If he kept insisting that she liked Robin well if she slipped in that he liked Artemis, then it was his fault.
It wasn't until they were getting ready to leave that her phone rang. Unfortunately, Robin, Artemis, and Zatanna were watching get another 'Wally's Hilarious Action Take' when the call came in. They all froze and looked between her and the phone before handing it over. (A picture of her and Hal after training on Oa, you couldn’t see their suits, but you could see green lanterns flying in the background).
"Hey Dad." she answered.
'Blue do you know anything about something called Miraculous?'
"Magical artifacts that are bound to these mini gods." Now if she didn't have their attention she did now. There was also no doubt that M'gann was broadcasting her dad's responses telepathically.
'Wait these are real?'
"Ya, the lanterns are actually an extension of these jewels."
'How can you just say it like it's nothing?'
"Because it's common knowledge." A sharp pain erupted in her head and voices chattered. "Hey!" she growled, clutching her head, towards M'gann.
'What's wrong?'
"Someone tripped me," she answered. "Can we continue this conversation at home? It's getting crowded."
'Sure. See you soon, Bluebell.'
"See you Papa."
"Mari are you okay?" Wally broke her glare.
"She tried to force herself in my mind." she stated in a hushed tone.
"It doesn't hurt..." Conner started to defend M'gann.
"Not to those who allow it or are untrained." She continued. "Telepathy is not a one-party consent. A person can resist or block telepaths if they are trained or have a natural defense. But if the telepath pushes and tries to force into a protected mind it is painful, a constant barrage."
"I'm sorry. I didn't know." M'gann apologized.
"Not many humans can resist telepaths its fine." Before they could process what, she said her phone rang again.
'Change of plans your meeting the team.'
"Um... Kind of late for that."
'What do you mean by that?' She started a video call.
"Say hi?"
"You know I'm not even going to ask. Get to these coordinates." He ended the call.
"Something’s up." Wally was oddly serious.
"You don't say." She led the group to a clearing not far from the park.
Only Angel in the Sky: She is screaming
Consider this an addition to this analysis, which is basically about observing Harry's expression of gender through the Pink Floyd lense (more precisely The Dark Side of the Moon).
Of all the songs I've used in this past analysis, there is one I skipped for reasons we don't understand, especially since it really ties up the whole thing together, and this song is The Great Gig in the Sky.
What if a woman screaming was Harry's headcanon voice for She, basically.
Quick history behind The Great Gig In the Sky (TGGITS):
The first version of the song was only the piano melody and was named "The Mortality Song", also called " The Religion song". When the finale version made it to the album, it was commonly interpretated as being about death, or at least a spiritual one.
Death after a repetitive and boring life, or a life not lived to its fullest, where time and self discovery were lacking.
When it comes to the sound of the piano, TGGITS reminds me an awful lot of the repetitive three notes that you hear in both SOTT and Only Angel, all songs that ''sound like heaven'', and that could be linked together through that piano melody. Absolute thanks to @laurelier and this incredible post for pointing out the importance of this recurrent sound in some of Harry's songs. and whose analysis fueled in depth this post <3
QUICK "LyRiCs" ANALYSIS
The Great Gig in the Sky opens, in the exact same fashion as Only Angel, with bribes of speech about death.
And I am not frightened of dying
Any time will do, I don't mind
Why should I be frightened of dying?
There's no reason for it, you've gotta go sometime, The Great Gig in the Sky
I saw this angel
I really saw an angel, Only Angel
Both speakers welcome death, or at the very least, don't run away from it. There is no fear of the unknown. Yet, right after those peaceful disclaimers, both songs suddenly take another turn and break in literal screams. it's a bit awkward cuz I can't really demonstrate it on text, yall have to listen i'm sorry but basically OA goes hEY HEYYYY and TGGITS goes oooHoooHOOROOAAAAAAA
What's interesting is that later in OA, you can hear Harry sings in the background about death again, on a loop:
Wanna die, wanna die, wanna die tonight
While legend has it that this is what you can hear later in TGGITS:
If you can hear this whispering you are dying
I point it out not only because it's another nail in the death coffin, but also because those two excerpts are not exactly supposed to be "in your face". You can hear Harry pretty well, but the words are kind of mumbled, lost among random adlibs and not on the same "volume level" than the main singing track. I remember not getting it the first time I listened to the song. and then i looked up the lyrics and was like omg harry what no stop cuz yeah 2017 was when i started acknowledging gayrry so it was a lot of pain to register
Aaaand when it comes to TGGITS's absolutely terrifying one liner, I still can't hear it guess it's a good thing. Apparently, it's around 3:30. Does it also remind me of the little reversed audio easter egg in She ? Ya.
Anyway death is rampant and the speaker is descending (or ascending ?) towards it.
BUT DON'T WORRY IT'S ABOUT GENDER
Ever since I've been obsessing over the parallels between Harry's work and Pink Floyd, The Great Gig in the Sky has been on my mind.
Through that lense, I see it as a raw form of expression, the same way I interprete Only Angel as being the most violent and loud way Harry found to express his struggles regarding... she.
The absolute unhinged vocals of Clare Torry in TGGITS hold the meaning of the world (ooh the dramatics). Is it despair, is it anger, is it demented bliss ? Just like I could never quite put the finger on why the screams in Only Angel were so powerful to me. They seem deliberately placed, one in particular: higher in pitch than all the others and coming right up after the ominous "wanna die tonight". As if she took over for a second.
To be fair, I don't have much to say on this, as it's more of an addition to the She post. However, I do eye the heavy use of the death imagery after reading the birth of Harry post by @ialwaysknewyouwerepunk (which you must go read now also and who triggered as well another round of 'me obsessing over gender in music'' ijtrqhjeut).
She was restricted, hidden, unreachable. She wants to break free. But for one to be reborn one must die first. So yeah, a spiritual little death and a powerful catharsis, and maybe then Harry wil get to thinking of her.
HOWEVER I don't see it as ''old Harry dying and being born again as his true self'', which is a bit of a leap to say about the trans experience. More like ''Harry getting rid of whatever kept him from exploring his angel''. In Only Angel, the bedroom door for example. In She, the speaker's whole established routine.
Harry is someone drawn to spiritual beliefs. Pink Floyd's metaphor of death, placed in the middle of the album, might resonate with his vision. Death isn't a conclusion or the end of the line: it's another step in the life process. And if it takes the form of a woman screaming her lungs out and gradually softening towards the end of the song, when the ''process'' is coming to a term, then I could see the big inspiration behind it.
Not gonna lie with this one it's really all about the vibes lmao because really it's 70% screaming.
#putting it out there#it doesnt weight much#but i like to see it written down#now i can peacefully enjoy the screams <3#without overanalysing it at night like you know the homer meme when hes frowning in his bed that was me#while clare was busting a lung in my ears#g e n d e r#what a weird concept#*hears screaming* gender#my analysis#song analysis#terrapin
Hi ! Could I posible a Luke Patterson request? In which the reader starts hanging with Reggie a lot and Luke gets jealous ? And they realize he has a thing for you or something like that 😭
JEALOUSLY- LUKE AND READER
A/N: I HOPE YOU ENJOY- I PUT ALITTLE TWIST ON IT!
For as long as you can remember, Luke Patterson was your best friend. There was many of times where you guys had slumber parties, or long nights of partying that ended in fits of laughter. Luke had always been your number one, the one you always turned to with your problems. But that all changed when Julie Molina rolled into your lives.
Being the stage manager for Sunset Curve, you and Luke shared a unique bond even further than the title of best friends. You knew what he needed in certain songs, that he needed exactly four extra guitar picks on his microphone stand, even that he wore a lucky tie around his left arm for each performance.
Julie didn’t know any of that- but she did know that she liked Luke’s attention and the music he was writing. Your music journal was beginning to collect dust. As the song writing sessions turned from your and Luke’s time to write into his and Julie’s.
You were slowly being pushed to the sidelines and so was your music. You were losing your best friend to her. Instead of keeping to yourself, you turned to the one person who listened most… Reggie Peters.
“God Reg- is he blind? He’s losing his best friend and he doesn’t even realize it. Luke is so focused on that… that… ugh her. I thought our music meant something… I thought I meant something.” you said, pacing in Julie’s kitchen as she worked on yet another song with Luke.
You roughly raked your hand through your tangled hair as your pacing continued, the sole of your shoes making contact with the hardwood. You were sure your walking pattern would be worn into the floor permanently.
“Okay- you need to stop pacing… you are making me dizzy darling.” Reggie said, rubbing his eyes as he watched you spin towards him.
A small chuckle escaped as he sat down at the island, waiting for you to talk more.
“I just… we have been best friends since we were 7, and now I am a shadow in his past. She took the forefront of his attention and now- God Reg, what do I do?” you said, leaning against the island.
Your mind was swarming with questions, but you had no real answers as to why Luke could forget you so easily. The amount of stress caused by this situation had sent your anxiety into high gear, your manicured nails had turned into nubs and scars littered your arms due to excessive scratching and picking. Your small, perfect world was beginning to crash in on all sides… all because you were losing your best friend, you were losing Luke.
You tucked your hair behind your ear as you looked up at Reggie, he was just staring right back at you. A clear look of concentration crossing his normally confused features.
Confusion crossed your own features as you asked, “What? Is there something on my face?”
You gently brushed both of your cheeks as he gently chuckled at you, the one thing about Reggie was he made you feel better no matter how much Luke was getting under your skin.
“No, you dork… I was trying to picture how Luke can blow you off. Clearly you are the better choice here.” He said, making a vibrant blush cross your features.
“Flattery will get you nowhere Mr. Peters…” you joked, as laughter fell from your lips, only making Reggie join in with you.
Laughter boomed through the kitchen which only drew in Luke and Julie’s attention. They came in the back door, with confusion written all over their own faces.
“What the hell is going on here?” Luke’s voice boomed, as you wiped the laughter induced tears from your eyes. The laughter continued to spill from your lips as you tried catching your breath.
You opened your mouth to speak, only to be cut off by Reggie, “We were waiting for you two… clearly you needed to have a little love song fest. So, are you ready for rehearsal now?”
A snicker fell from your lips as you watched the shocked face of both Luke and Julie… Reggie may be a bit slow, but he wasn’t dumb. He knew that Julie and Luke’s new closeness was bothering you, so why not say something?
You bumped hips with Reggie as you started heading to the backdoor, “So are we rehearsing or not?”
Reggie couldn’t help but smile as he headed out behind you, leaving Julie and Luke even more confused than before.
You plopped down on the couch, a small shiver coming over your body. The change in the weather was as apparent as Julie’s crush on Luke. Reggie was the only one who noticed, as usual. He handed you his leather jacket, before picking up his bass and making sure everything was in tune.
Alex was neatly seated behind his drum set as Julie and Luke slowly stalked back into the garage. Luke briefly caught my gaze before you averted your eyes, focusing on the magazines on the coffee table. You couldn’t help but chew on the inside of your cheek as you were drawn into your thoughts.
How could two best friends, go from attached at the hip to being like total strangers with an extra dose of awkwardness somewhere in between.
A soft melody began to fill the space, and it was immediately clear what song it was. It was the one song that you wrote for Luke on your own and spilled every ounce of love into.
The words softly fell from his lips as he strung his guitar slowly, Julie had a careful eye on him.
Love me as I am
I'll hold your music here inside my hands
We say we're friends, we play pretend
You're more to me, we're everything
Our voices rise and soar so high
We come to life when we're
In perfect harmony
Whoa-oa-oa, whoa-oa-oa
Your gaze couldn’t help but fall onto him as he finished the final lyrics of the song. He shot you a quick glance before switching over to his electric guitar. A swift blush swept over your features as your looked down at your beat-up converse.
Gently pushing yourself off the couch, you made your way over to Reggie. Just trying to not focus on Julie and Luke as they ran through some new lyrics.
“Hey babes” you said, the words just swiftly rolling off your tongue, drawing Luke’s attention to you. He watched as your hand went from your side onto Reggie’s shoulder, he watched as laugher fell from your lips. All he could think about was there was a time where the two of you were thick as thieves, and now you were more interested in Reggie than him.
“Yes- Hello Jealously” Reggie said, causing laughter to spill from you. You gently shoved his shoulder, before following his gaze. Tossing your hair over your shoulder, you saw Luke’s intense gaze on you and Reggie. It was like he was emitting jealously as well- but what could he be jealous of?
“He’s been watching you this whole time” Reggie said, drawing your attention from Luke. You just scoffed at him.
“Yeah okay. He doesn’t have time to watch me when he’s with her.” You said, rolling your eyes at him. Your reaction only made Reggie break out in laughter.
“Oh shush… come here. I wanna show you something” He said, taking off his bass before looping it over you.
“You know I can’t play an instrument to save my life… right?” you said, your hands becoming clammy with nerves.
He guided your hands to the proper placement on the bass, making sure you had a decent idea of what he was going to tell you.
“Just play these notes... okay?” He said, showing you just a quick scale.
Taking a deep breath, you played the same scale with only minor difficulty. A smile erupted across your face as you pulled the bass off you. You couldn’t help but jump into Reggie’s arms, laughter echoing from the both of you.
“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” You said repeatedly before placing a swift kiss to his cheek.
“Okay- what the hell is going on?” Luke bellowed from across the room, the displeasure was extremely clear in his voice. You couldn’t help the smirk that crossed your face as he walked closer to you and Reggie.
“I’m sorry? Why does my life have anything to do with you? You made your decision a long time ago” You spat back at him, standing your ground next to Reggie.
He scoffed back at you, “I’ve been busy for 5 minutes and you moved on… I think you are the one who made up your mind so clearly.”
“I’m not the only one who made up their mind, Luke. You are so blind; you don’t even see that you chose Julie over me. I have been your best friend since we were 7 and now… now I am nothing to you. So, you don’t get to bash me for how I fix what you broke.” You said harshly, tears beginning to fill your eyes.
He was speechless, Luke looked at you the same way he did when you met all those years ago. You had fallen off your bike in front of the Patterson’s house and he came out to help. He looked at you with such sadness because of how badly you hurt yourself. But this time you did nothing, he was the one who hurt you.
“I didn’t choose her… you are the one wearing his clothes and being all into him nowadays. You never once wanted to learn about my instrument or music. You turned your back on me too, no matter how much you don’t see that.” He said, sadness evident in his voice.
You opened your mouth to respond, but Reggie quickly cut you off. “You may not see it Luke. But you hurt her. She did the one thing she could, turn to the other people in this band who love her. You turned you back on your best friend, for some girl you met a week ago. Have you lost your mind? She was the best thing in your world, and you shattered her.”
Tears quickly fell down your cheeks as you wrapped your arms around yourself. You just wanted to protect yourself from getting hurt again. You loved Luke, but was love worth this?
“Why would I try to shatter the one person I love… the only person I see a life with?” He blurted before quickly clamping his hand over his mouth. Your eyes couldn’t help but widen as his omission.
You looked around the room, trying to make sure this was reality. That the boy you so longed for, loved you just as much as you loved him.
“I-uh Y/N… that is not…” Luke began to stutter as he walked towards you. You watched as he stuffed his hands in his pockets, just waiting for you to respond in some way.
A smile broke out across your face as you made your way to him. The fear disappeared from his face as he lifted you in the air. He just held you tightly against him, almost terrified you would disappear if he let go of you.
“I love you too Luke…” you quietly whispered in his ear as he placed you back on your feet. A small blush crossed his features as he looked from your eyes to your lips.
You couldn’t help but smile as you pressed your lips to his, your hands intertwined in his hair as he gently gripped your waist.
You pulled away from the kiss with this content look upon your face, you opened your mouth to say something to Luke. But you were cut off quickly,
“So, can we get back to rehearsal?” Alex said, twirling his drumstick while the two of you looked like deer in headlights.
You nodded sheepishly as let go of Luke, making a quick round to Reg.
“It seems like you got your man.” He said, sending a quick wink at you causing laughter to echo from you.
“Hey! Quit winking at my girl” Luke said, before winking at you again. He could not be hotter than with that guitar pick between his teeth as he focused on the song ahead.
You both knew deep down; this was only the beginning of a new chapter in your story. Luke Patterson was the last man you ever wanted to love, and now that all seemed more than possible.
A Lantern’s Rage PART 4
Prev Beginning
Based on @cornholio4 ‘s Red Lantern Prompt
______________________________________________________________
When Razer stared into the young girl’s eyes, he looked beyond the anger. What he found was heartbreak, despair, and he saw heartbreak, grief, and hopelessness. He recognized all those feelings, and then for a moment a face flickered over hers...his face. His glare. It was like looking into his past.
“Oh man. What am I going to do with you kid?”, Razer heard Hal groan. “Do I take you to Oa for your crimes as a Red Lantern? Turn you over to Earth authorities? Or to the League?” He looked over at the Green Lantern who was running his fingers through his hair. He looked back at the Red Lantern, she looked so defeated and still so angry.
“Hal”, Razer spoke, the human turned to look at him, “I believe I have a solution. What if I take her to Odym, help her overcome her rage and repent for her actions.” Hal looked like he was thinking it over, he sighed.
“We’ll have to check with the guardians, and the league.”, he said, his ring started glowing and he lifted his hand close to his face. “Hey Big S, turns out the red lantern was a teenage girl.” He walked away from Razer to continue with his conversation. Razer looked back at her, she was still sitting down in the bubble construct he made.
He sighed, aimed his ring at the bubble and unclenched his fist, the blue bubble disappeared into thin air. Immediately, the tiny human girl threw herself at him, he jumped out of the way. She growled at him, “You aren’t taking me anywhere! Not until I make those heartless idiots pay!”
Razer rose his hands up, showing her he meant no harm, her glare faltered for a split second before hardening again. “I am Razer of the Blue Lantern Corp, I am here to help. What is your name?”, he asked, extending his hand in the way Hal used when introducing himself to others. He assumed it was an earth custom, then she slowly began to extend her hand out towards him. When she grabbed his hand, her glare disappeared, and was replaced by an almost blank stare. He still saw anger, cautiousness, and a touch of fear.
“I’m Marinette Dupain-Cheng...of the Red Lantern Corp.”, she said a little too roughly.
Razer smiled gently at her and knelt down in front of her, “It’s nice to meet you.”
________
Marinette stared numbly at her ringless left hand, it had been a week since the ring was removed from her hand. The so-called Guardians had it taken from her but she was to stay on Odym to train under Razer. The ring never left her side though, no matter how far it was taken it came right back to her. Razer said it was because she still had a great rage in her, and until she could let go of this rage the ring would keep coming back.
Despite the meaning behind the ring, she missed it. She missed it’s warmth, it’s light, the feeling of not being alone...she missed it just as much as she missed Tikki. She frowned and rubbed her bare earlobes, a new habit she developed recently. Tikki couldn’t come with her, so she had to give up being Ladybug. “Give up?”, she muttered, “Not like I had a choice.” Tikki made the decision to leave.
“Your entire life has been changed, you need time to heal from this change. And as much as I want to be with you.”, Tikki said as she hugged Marinette’s cheek. “I can’t go with you. But I can guarantee that when you come back, I’ll be here.”
Marinette started to cry only for the door to burst open and a stunned Razer was pointing his ring at the scared Kwami. Marinette immediately hid Tikki behind her,but then Tikk flew out towards the blue lantern.
“Thank you for helping my Marinette”, she could hear the smile in Tikki’s voice. “Please protect her while I’m gone.” She bowed her head and Razer bowed his head.
“I swear on my honor as a blue lantern that I will protect her.”, Razer vowed. Tikki then flew over to Marinette and hugged her cheek tight. Then kissed Marinette’s forehead. Marinette started to tear up as she removed the earrings from her ears, and handed them to the Kwami.
Tikki took them and gave one final smile to Marinette before flying off into the night.
Her eyes began to water and she clenched her fists, then threw herself on her bed. She grabbed her pillow and shoved it into her face, “AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!”, she screamed into the soft mass. She removed the pillow and sat up straight in the bed. Her eyes stinging from the unshed tears and she quickly blinked any would be tears away. Pulling the pillow close to her chest, she rose up out of her bed and walked over to a window that overlooked the Blue Lantern Corp’s home base.
She sighed and her shoulders slumped, “If I wasn’t stuck on this planet, I might actually enjoy the view.” One and reached up and rubbed an earlobe, “You would’ve liked this place, Tikki.”
She hated that she was here. She missed Paris. She missed Tikki. She missed Alya and Nino. She missed Adrien and Luka. She missed Nadja and Manon. She even missed Chloe. Sighing, she looked at a small glowing device that rested on a table in the middle of the room. She could talk to anyone of them if she wanted to, but what was she supposed to say exactly? That she’s sorry for destroying half the city? She’s sorry for traumatizing everyone? Or how about that she’s sorry that she was so upset that she literally became a mini rage god hell bent on killing their entire class? That would definitely go well. Oh and how could she forget, “I’m sorry for becoming a monster and then leaving without so much as a word because some alien police force wants me to repent for my sins!”
Then she heard a loud beep, oh great her “mentor” was here for their daily walk around the grounds. Groaning, she walked over to her door and opened it. Aaaand there he was, Razer, she gave an obviously fake smile and said, “Well isn’t this a surprise! Razer! How nice to see you!” She then gave him a deadpan look and attempted to close the door slightly, “Thanks for stopping by but I really don’t feel like talking to anyone right now. Bye-bye!”
A bright blue hand construct stopped the door from closing, she glared at it and it’s owner. Razer smiled at her and she found it a bit hard to keep glaring at him. She groaned and stepped outside her room, “Let’s get this over with.”
“I won’t take up much time, today we are expecting some visitors.”, he smiled at her, then started to walk away. Then he stopped, looked at her expectedly and she begrudgingly walked beside him. They walked in silence for a while before she asked, “These visitors...are they from Earth?”
“Yes.”, was the only response she got.
“Are they here for me?”, she asked, this time looking up at him as they strolled in a hallway. Razer looked like he was contemplating how to respond.
“They are here to discuss what happened and the situation in Paris with the miraculous.”, her eyes widened and she stopped walking. Razer stopped a few steps ahead of her.
“They know I’m- I was Ladybug?”, she asked. Razer shook his head, “No, but they believe you know how to contact her. Your friend, Alya, and partner, Chat Noir, both said that if anyone knew how to “reach” Ladybug, it would be you.”
She breathed out a sigh of relief, before staring Razer in the eye, You didn’t tell them?” Razer shook his head again, “It is not my secret to share. And I swore to your friend that I would protect you during your time here. I assumed that me sharing this information would be me breaking my promise.” She nodded her head as a show of gratitude.
“Thank you Razer.”, she said softly. Razer smiled at her and together they walked further down the hallway.
Rangers, Lead The Way - Chapter 2 - Jay and Hana
written by @anotheronechicagobog
warnings: swearing, cannon typical violence, jealousy, abandonment
When Jay had gotten a call from Kenny at three-thirty in the morning he didn't exactly know what to expect. Sure, he could have called because someone died, but he could've also called because he wanted to debate the pronunciation of 'avocado' (something he'd already done twice). So when Kenny's name flashed across his phone screen he just took a deep breath and went to the hallway, leaving a sleeping Hailey alone in bed. "Halstead."
"Hana got shot."
"What? Hana? Your Hana?"
"Yeah- it was a fugitive. She- she's fine. Shot in the foot. She was on leave for a bit, stayed with her parents, but now she's on desk duty. She was going to be with us, but apparently, she was helping the cyber division track some hackers, and they're connected to an organized crime group in Chicago. And she's going to be working with the unit that's been conducting the investigation into that organization. Your unit."
"Yeah, we were told that an FBI cyber analyst was coming down to work with us but they didn't tell us who. Okay, well, she'll be perfectly safe. Our tech room is in the basement with secure entrances, and I'll see if I can get either myself or Hailey assigned to work with her."
"Thanks man, you have no idea how much this means to me."
"Actually I do, remember?"
"Yeah, any advice on how to get through it?"
"I'm not gonna lie, it's gonna be hell, but you'll just have to hang in there and trust me."
"Okay."
"... So I'll finally get to meet Hana..."
"Yeah, I'm hanging up now. Bye."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Everyone, meet special agent Hana Gibson from the FBI. She's the tech specialist here to help us out with the Anderson family. Play nice." After his... Enthusiastic introduction, Voight walked back into his office and shut the door. "Hi, I'm detective Jay Halstead and this is my partner Detective Hailey Upton, it's nice to meet you. I can show you where you'll be working if you want?"
"That would be great." Jay moved to the desk by the stairs. "Okay, this desk is just like ours, older than our boss and with a PC on it. The tech room is downstairs, this is mostly for basic searches and so that the tech expert can be with the group when we debrief and work the board and the like. The stairs over here take you down to the garage which is where the tech room is. The stairs are old so they creak a lot but don't worry, they're perfectly safe."
"Sorry to interrupt, but is that a cage?"
"Yes, but don't worry, we don't use it. It's from the old guard, you know, when cops were assaulting people for no reason and no one would say anything. At least now people are talking about it."
"I sense a 'but'."
"But... I wish that cops who were still like that actually got arrested, or never made it out of the academy."
"You and me both."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Okay, so the Anderson family has been selling legit products online but then stealing and selling the credit card info, they've been covering their tracks pretty well up until now. That means that something changed. What that is could be key to catching all, and I mean all, of them. Work your CI's, talk to victims, flip some people. Figure out what it is." The team nodded and turned to their partners to figure out their next move.
"Should we head out to Cook County? There's an inmate there connected to the Anderson's, right? Maybe they could give us something."
"Actually, I was thinking maybe I could head out there with Ruzek and you could stay with Gibson because you found their online pattern and figured out which products and websites were theirs. Maybe you two could find more together."
"Sure, that sounds okay but, we're good, right?"
"Of course we are, we'll always be good. I just think this will be best for the case, plus you have the most experience working with the FBI, and her being here has put Voight on edge which has put everyone else on edge."
"Good point, I'll see you later." His eyes followed her until he couldn't see her anymore and he let out a breath, it was different this time. Last time, when Hailey hadn't been here, OA had kept an eye on her but his partner wasn't there so that made it a bit easier, but Hailey was here and now so was Hana. It would take some finessing to have both of their backs but he figured if they were in the same place it would be a little easier. "Halstead? You ready to head out?"
"Yeah, let's go."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cook County was as unpleasant as always. Angry convicts yelling at them through their cells that they wanted to slit his throat. Lovely. But that wasn't what got to him. Leonard Mitchell, the man they were there to see, wouldn't say anything helpful. He wasn't even threatening them or insulting them, he was just asking "where the smoking blonde from last time was". It was taking an enormous amount of restraint to keep him from jumping across the table and tackling the guy. "You're here for hacking the Chicago Municipal Courts website and unsealing confidential information. You're in the high-security ward and have more restricted access to places in the prison than most inmates. You don't have much going for you, maybe if you give us some information we can help you out."
"That's a joke, I'm not saying anything to either of you. Now that blonde, get her to show up for a conjugal visit, then maybe I'll consider it."
"Okay! So, we're done talking, we're going to search your cell and work station now, and you know what, because you have been so unpleasant to deal with today, we're also going to search the cells and workstations near you. Have fun explaining to your neighbours why their contraband got carted off by Chicago PD." Jay marched out of the interrogation room before he lost his cool even more than he already had. He gestured for the warden to get some guards together to start the search. He took a deep breath to try and calm down. "Hey Halstead, are you okay? I mean, what he said about Upton..."
"I'm fine. I don't like hearing anyone talk about my partner that way, but I'm fine."
"Really? Cause the stuff he said was pretty..."
"She's back at the station with Gibson in probably the most secure room there, far, far away from that perv. And if she's okay, I'm okay."
"You should ask her out. I mean, I know it might be weird considering I'm her ex, but you're so far gone on her it's ridiculous and I think that you'd make a cute couple. Think about it, man"
"Uh, yeah. I'll think about it, come on, let's go see if the warden's ready for the searches." Jay's heart was pounding and he felt like he'd just jumped out of the way of a moving train. Nobody knew about them yet, but they were all criminal investigators surely they'd picked up that at least something was different.
They searched Mitchell's room and found a burner phone... Behind his toilet. "Man, I am so glad I don't have to touch that thing. That's Upton and Gibson's job."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is, we found a cell phone. The bad news is, it was behind his toilet."
"How lovely."
"Well, you can thank Leonard Mitchell for that. Hey, how's it been working with Gibson?"
"Why?"
"What do you mean?"
"You seem really interested in her, that's all. Do I need to be worried?"
"No, I just want to make sure that she feels welcome and won't give us a bad review to the FBI."
"I know what you look like when you're lying, Jay."
"Hailey..."
"Just... Go back upstairs, Jay."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"How's everything going?"
"Other than the fact that I'm in the doghouse, good."
"What'd you do?"
"I was a little too protective of Hana, I guess. Hailey picked up on it and I couldn't exactly explain without blowing our cover."
"That sucks, man. I'm sorry but honestly, it sounds like you were gonna end up sleeping on the couch either way."
"Yeah, how are you? You holding up alright with Hana gone?"
"No. You were right, this is hell. I keep looking around to make sure she's covered or to offer to get her that terrible coffee she likes and then she's not there and it feels like whiplash." Jay could practically feel himself sharing the weight on Kenny's shoulders. "It doesn't get any easier, it actually gets a lot harder, but she won't be here forever. She'll be home soon and you'll be able to breathe again."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hailey was still giving him the cold shoulder when he went around to take lunch orders. She was curt "my usual" before turning back to her computer screen and completely ignoring him. He did what he could to not let the pang in his chest play out on his face but from the way Hana looked at him it was obvious, he'd failed. "What about you Gibson? Do you need a copy of their menu?"
"No, that's okay, I looked it up. I'll get the spicy shrimp pad thai."
"You got it." He was about to leave when Hana gestured for him to lean down close to her. "Just apologize for whatever you did, it'll go a long way. She's been off since you dropped off the cell phone." He wanted to say something, explain that he was just caught between a rock and a hard place, but the words were trapped in his throat. Hana sent him a I-know-what-I'm-talking-about-if-you-don't-listen-to-me-you're-probably-going-to-regret-it look and all he could do was allow his shoulders to slump and nod.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intense silence of the bullpen was interrupted by Hailey entering behind Hana, who looked incredibly confident on her crutches. "We got something off of the phone." Hailey moved to the board with some papers as Hana plopped down into the office chair at her temporary desk. "It took a while to crack some of the files but I got it. They're transactions between an off-shore account and a shell company based out of Arkansas. While the account was set up there, it's been used mostly in New York, Washington DC, and Chicago. The most recent transaction was for 85K."
"Hana and I also found some emails with photos of military-grade weapons. Guns, missiles, and grenades. Mitchell isn't the buyer or the seller, it looks like he's mediating between the two. We don't have an ID on the buyer yet, but we have one on the seller. Lori Anderson, member of the Anderson crime family. Got no idea what they're planning, but the Anderson's were particularly interested in armour-piercing weapons and rocket launchers. And two days ago she asked Mitchell if he could put her in contact with an explosives supplier. We need to talk to organized crime, both from CPD and FBI, this looks bad. There are still files and emails that we have to go through, and his calendar makes no sense it's all in code. It's probably pretty important because he was in prison and couldn't actually go anywhere. We're also still combing through the contraband from the other cells just to make sure none of his neighbours were also involved."
"Alright. Upton, Gibson, good work. Keep at the phone. Atwater and Burgess you two talk to organized crime, see what you can dig up and alert them of our discoveries. Ruzek and Halstead, flip any CIs you've got. We need to get ahead of whatever they're planning."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They were supposed to be safe. They were supposed to be safe. They were in the precinct, they were surrounded by on-duty cops, there was another detective unit across from Intelligence, Platt was at the front desk, Hank-don't-you-even fucking-dare-Voight was in his office. They were supposed to be safe. But they weren't.
They'd just left one of Adam's CIs twitching in excitement down the street as he counted his money when they got the call over the radio.
"10-1! 10-1! Shots fired at police at 21st district! We're pinned down!" They had a moment of stunned silence together before they hauled ass to Jay's truck and high-tailed it back to the district, sirens blaring and lights flashing. Jay's body was moving on autopilot, which probably wasn't good considering he was speeding in a large vehicle down busy roads, the only thing that was going to calm him down, that would quell and panic and rage bubbling up in was seeing Hailey alive. He would move heaven and earth to make that a reality.
Pulling up at the district he vaguely remembered he had to look out for Hana too, but lord help him, and whoever stood in his way, if he didn't see blonde hair and blue eyes attached to the fiery woman who held his heart.
The lobby reminded Jay of Kandahar, there were bullet holes lining every vertical surface. Blood pooled under the bodies of the injured. He did a quick sweep of the room, finding nothing but injured cops and civilians, none of whom were Hailey or Hana, or the attackers. The door to intelligence hung open, barely attached at the hinges. "They went up to intelligence! Move your asses!" Platt didn't spare them a second glance as she went back to ordering the remaining able-bodied patrol officers around.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Kim!"
"I'm okay, I'm okay."
"We're okay too, just so you know."
"Where did they go, Kev? What happened?"
"They went down to the garage-" Jay didn't have it in him to finish listening, he just ran, gun raised. "Hailey! Hana!" It was bad enough that he might lose Hailey, the woman he loved more than anything, but losing Hana too? He wouldn't be able to look Kenny in the eye ever again.
"We're over here!"
"We're okay!"
And then he could breathe again. Oh thank god, she's safe, Hailey's safe. She's mad at me but she's safe... Does my heart always pound this fast when I'm not with her and I'm just noticing now? No, it's probably adrenaline because... I almost lost her. But I didn't. They were tucked into separate corners of the tech office, Hailey, covered in blood that she immediately indicated wasn't hers, was armed with her Glock and Hana armed with her crutches. There were five men in black tactical gear with ski masks lying in various positions on the floor. Four had obvious non-lethal bullet wounds, a courtesy from Hailey, and the fifth was still moving and being hit repeatedly by Hana with one of her crutches. "Stop. Moving. Already. You. Ass!" Jay would've been more impressed if he wasn't still coming down from the adrenaline. "Thank god. You're both okay? Hailey?"
"We're fine."
"Hails-"
"We're fine, just help guide the ambos here, please?"
"...Okay." God, he could feel his heart start to splinter. Less than a minute ago he'd thought that his world had been savagely destroyed, but now... All he wanted was to hold her and it only made him ache more when she pushed him away. He just walked over to the garage door to allow the paramedics easier access, only his footsteps and groans of pain coming from the goons kept the room from being dismally silent.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"She's completely fine, so before you freak out just know that she's in the exact same shape she arrived here in."
"That is a terrible way to start a phone call Halstead! Was that supposed to calm me down or help in some way? What even happened?"
"The Genna's hired some local weapons enthusiasts the bust into our precinct and steal what we knew about them. They trashed our bulletin board and tried to get to the computers in the tech room but Hailey and Hana whooped their asses. When I got there Hana was actually beating one with one of her crutches. Hana's a badass."
"Damn right she is... But she's okay?"
"She's pissed off, but there's not a scratch on her."
"Good... That's really good."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hailey?" Jay knocked again, using every last thread of hope he had that she'd answer. It didn't matter that she was still upset with him, he just wanted to see her face. She and Hana had been whisked away by the FBI and IA right after the ambulances picked up the hired help. He just wanted to see her for more than thirty seconds, reassure himself that she was okay and that she still loved him. That he could fix everything, that he would at least get to hold her one last time. "Hailey, please open the door." He was only met with soul-crushing silence. "Please."
The relief he felt when the lock turned and the door opened could not be described. "Hana is inside if you want to talk to her."
"I'm here for you, Hails. Please, just... Talk to me. I love you, I love you more than I ever thought possible to love someone and today I found you hunched over, covered in blood. It doesn't matter that the blood didn't end up being yours. I was- I still am- terrified. I could have lost you today and I don't know how to face that. Can I just have a hug, at least, please? I just- I can't-" And then she was wrapping her arms around his waist, her tired gravity pulling him to her. He honestly considered being able to wrap his arms around her in return, and burying his face into her hair a gift from the gods. "I was so glad that you weren't there, because it means you weren't getting shot at, I've had to deal with you getting shot more than enough times, I couldn't deal with it again, Jay. I... I love you too." Jay didn't know how much longer they stayed like that, enveloping each other, but he cherished every second of it. And when they finally parted it was like coming down from an adrenaline high. "Do you want to come in? We were about to order from Bartoli's."
"I would love that."
"Good, cause we've left Hana waiting for a while."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So, now I get to have the legendary deep-dish pizza, huh?"
"Yep. Best damn pizza in the world."
"Damn straight."
"You know, I think you two are a little biased."
"You sound like the partner I had while I was in the FBI, OA Zidan, he was always riding me about my opinion on pizza." Jay froze. He could feel himself freeze up. He could feel Hailey and Hana eyeing him in confusion. Shit. "What is it, Jay?"
"Sorry, I just don't like remembering that my partner was away from me for so long, and had another partner in that time period."
"Really, Halstead? You don't need to get all territorial, Hailey clearly doesn't want to be anywhere but with you. Seriously, you should have seen her when the FBI and IA showed up-"
"Hana!"
"What? He's the one who got all stiff when you brought up the FBI"
Phew, they didn't know, thank heavens.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everyone was back the next day, ready to keep moving, to catch the people who organized the break-in of their precinct which injured twenty-three and killed four. It was bad enough that they'd tried to bust into Intelligence in the first place, but to hurt innocent people in the process? That was just plain wicked.
Hailey and Hana were working side by side, delving into the cyber goings on of the Genna family, Kim and Kevin were working with the crime lab to analyse the precinct, and Jay and Adam were back to flipping CIs. Jay felt better about where things stood with Hailey, but he was still grumpy that he couldn't be in the temporary bullpen with her today. He knew that she was capable and that she didn't need him to hover, but that didn't make being away from her after she was almost killed any less difficult. They were supposed to be in the most secure place in the precinct, how were any of them supposed to feel safe working in a place that had been breached by mercenaries in only a few minutes? He tried to shake off the worry and fear, but he just couldn't. And it was made worse by the fact that it wasn't only Hailey who had been in danger- Hana was too. And Kenny had already lost so many people that he really didn't know how he would've handled that situation. Having to tell one of his best friends that the woman he was in love with was dead while dealing with the exact same senario.
The second last CI on their list had been dodging them all day, and Jay's sanity was already hanging on by a thread- he did not have the strength or patience to deal with this. So instead of trying to track him down again, he just put out a BOLO and waited until patrol brought him in, kicking and screaming. When he entered the interrogation room Marcus went on a tirade, "what the FUCK, man!", "we had a deal!", "are these handcuffs really necessary?". Jay just stared at him. He didn't have the energy to try and get the guy to shut the fuck up, so he just sat silently across from him, trying to make him as uncomfortable as possible. "... Are you okay, man?"
"No, not really, Marcus. See, I've been calling you all day. I've called up other CIs and they were all okay to meet. But not you. No, you ghosted me and I had to get patrol to drag your ass in here. You still have robbery charges I could lay on you. This is about to get a whole lot worse because I have exactly no patience to deal with any BS right now, but yours especially. So. The Genna family. Tell me everything you know."
And he did. He sang like a damn canary, which Jay attributed to luck, and Adam attributed to Jay looking like he was going to tear the poor bastard limb from limb. Seriously. Adam made a mental note not to piss off Jay, which he subconsciously realizes means that as long as he didn't hurt Hailey he'd be fine. But he didn't have time to dwell on that as Jay exited the interrogation room looking like the leprechaun at the end of the rainbow. "I've gotta get this to the girls, you're not gonna believe what this bastard knew."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An apartment, down in Canaryville, was occupied by Daniel Anderson's mistress. And she wasn't just his mistress... She was his accountant. She didn't just file his taxes, she managed his money, she knew everything that it was used for and how they got it in the first place. Jay ran to the temporary tech room ready to drop a bomb, only for his fiery girlfriend to beat him to it. "We found out where they got the weapons and ammo! The navy didn't put out a report until they'd finished their investigation, but it's their stuff. It all came from Norfolk, but they were shipping it to Kandahar when they were robbed by a twelve-person team, well-skilled and heavily armed. But look at this surveillance video, where part of the leader's sleeve got torn off."
"That's... That's Daniel Anderson. He's got that tattoo. We can get a warrant with that, but what about this- Daniel has a mistress in an apartment in Canaryville. She's his accountant, she knows everything. And if we can get a warrant with what you found, we can search that apartment too because it's in his name." Hailey smiled that vindicated smile that just lit up her whole face and made her eyes shine with pride. Jay could feel himself mirroring her and he just couldn't look away, finally feeling like they got their groove back, their relationship back. "Hey guys? I'm glad you made up but can you either get to work or get a room? I don't need a front seat to this."
"Oh, admit it Gibson, we're your OTP."
"I admit to nothing, Halstead."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honestly, the raid of all of Daniel Anderson's properties, and consequently the collapse of the Anderson crime family, was dismally anti-climactic. They found boat-loads of evidence, Daniel's wife, mistress, and right-hand man all turned on him, and the FBI and NCIS were currently fighting over jurisdiction even though the case was already solved... By the CPD. Truthfully no one minded, because it meant that once they submitted their case notes and raid reports, they were done and might not even have to go to trial, the feds could handle that. While the majority of Intelligence decided to go to the regular watering hole, Hailey and Hana had made other plans and were dragging Jay along for the ride. And it was all going well, until they started talking about roommates. "I like Zadie, but she's gotten annoying now that she's dating my partner. So has he honestly. I mean, who thought that Kenny Crosby, an ex-army ranger would be acting like a thirteen-year-old that was in his first relationship? 'Is that text from Zadie? Is it about me? Were you guys talking about me while you were in the kitchen together this morning?' He was It's... A little exhausting. All he can talk about, is her. And whenever we hang out it always involves her somehow. He won't say it but I know he was a little disappointed when I came back and interrupted their 'love nest." All that Jay was able to gain from that other than the echo of sadness from behind her eyes, was that Crosby was dating someone who was not Hana. Which would be weird if he talked about her constantly on the phone, which he does, have an intimately trusting relationship with her, which he does, and ask one of his old army buddies to keep an eye on her while he can't because he cares about her so much and can't bear to lose her, which he did. So in conclusion; the fact that Kenny is dating someone who is not Hana is weird and will require further investigation.
"So he's constantly asking you about his girlfriend?"
"Well, she is too. But it's more annoying with him because he's my partner, we work together."
"But you live with her."
"It's... It's just different." Jay could see that she was mentally grasping at threads while trying to keep herself from falling into a black hole, this clearly meant much more to her than she was letting on so he decided to drop it. It was good timing too, because Hailey returned to the table with their food. Hair up, with a cute little Greece-themed apron on, ignoring her older brother's teasing from the kitchen. "Σκασε ηλιθιε!" (shut up idiot!)
"Μην μου πεις να σταματήσω, αυτό είναι το εστιατόριο μου!" (Don't tell me to shut up, this is my restaurant!) Jay found himself chucking at the Upton sibling banter. They interacted a lot less than he and Will did, though he supposed part of that was because he and his brother ran into each other through their work fairly often, and it was nice to see them... Happy with one another. Hailey usually looked like a constipated pigeon whenever she talked about her family so it was nice that she had reconciled with at least one sibling. After they were all able to move out, their relationships with each other got much more contentious. Theodore was the middle child and believed that they should quietly encourage their mother to leave their abusive father and just silently support her, Declan was the oldest and quite firmly just didn't care about their parents anymore and wanted nothing to with either of them because one was the abuser and the other was the enabler, while Hailey was the youngest and wanted to drag her father to prison by his ear herself. "Your brother seems like quite the joker."
"Oh, he is. He's always been the comedian in the family, a bit of a cross between SpongeBob and Chandler Bing. When I was seven, Theo put these gummy spiders in random places all over the house. It scared the crap out of my dad when he opened the- a top kitchen cupboard and about twelve of these spiders fell out, scared him even more when Theo grabbed one off the floor and bit into it, I think he ate three in total, one was completely whole, talking about how 'tasty' they were before my dad needed to sit down. It took him longer than he will ever admit to realize that they were just candy."
"Oh, that is good. I used to use some of those YouTube jump scare videos on my parents. I thought it was the funniest thing ever, especially because I used Elmo jump scares. So they'd be freaking out, and I'd just ask them why they were so afraid of a red puppet. My mom still doesn't trust me to show her videos."
"Well, it sounds like you and my brother would get along like fire, you should meet him later. He said he'd join us for dessert." Wait... What? Oh no... I know that look, she's trying to set Hana up with her brother! As much as I'd like Hana to be my sister-in-law, that would preferably be through a different brother.
."That sounds great, I really like Theo. What was that thing we had last time we ate with him and... Her name was Kate, right? Do you know how they're doing? I feel like I haven't heard about her in a long time." Hailey gave him a look. A I-can't-believe-you-just-said-that look. "No, they're not dating anymore. I thought I mentioned that."
"Oops, seriously though, what was that dessert we had with them?"
"That was revani, we can ask if that's what my brother has here today."
"Uh- what is revani, if I may ask, as the only non-Greek and non-Greek-dating person at this table?"
"Ha, of course you can ask Hana. It's a semolina cake, flavoured with lemon and orange zest. It's really good."
"That sounds great, but do you think I'd also be able to order some takeout for tomorrow? I just have a long day of travelling via bus tomorrow and I don't know when I'll get the chance to eat, so I figure having a big breakfast might help with that."
"That sounds like a cool idea. Hailey, why don't we all order some food to go and eat it tomorrow morning together?"
"You mean as like a big Greek breakfast?"
"Yeah."
"I wasn't thinking that initially but I'm glad Jay did, it sounds great."
"Alright, yeah, let's do it. I'll go talk to Theo and order somethings that reheat well." Hailey left them with a smile to go bother her brother in the kitchen, their discussion in Greek filling the restaurant with jokes and quips only a few present were able to understand, forging smiles on the faces of strangers as they listened to the voices in the kitchen. Hana looked apprehensive, and he doubted it was about the long bus inter-state bus ride. "Hana, I'm sure that your partner missed you, maybe he didn't say it, maybe he needed a distraction, but he missed you."
"How do you know? You don't even know him." If only you knew.
"Trust me on this."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"You fucking idiot." Jay was trying to keep his voice down so that he didn't wake Hailey, who was asleep in her bed (where he wanted to be), or Hana who was asleep in the guest bedroom. As much as he loved her with his entire being, Jay had to admit that Hailey was a fucking demon if you woke her up without 'just cause'.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me Crosby!"
"What the hell Halstead?!"
"You called me at three-thirty in the morning, worried out of your mind about Hana, asking me to keep an eye on her, to protect her, all while you're dating someone who isn't her!"
"Oh, yeah, I'm dating her roommate-"
"Zadie. I know. Why do you think I called you to yell at you at two in the morning?"
"Hey, back up man. I don't know what you think you're talking about, but just because I'm dating Zadie doesn't mean that I don't care about Hana. There is very little I wouldn't do to keep her safe... If I could even do it."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"I... I was right there. I should have been able to help her. So, so why couldn't I help her? Huh? She is so important to me, okay? I don't even know how to describe it."
"Try."
"She... My mom told me that to make a woman fall in love with me I had to make her laugh, but every time she laughs I'm the one who falls more and more in love. She is astonishingly intelligent and I have never been more glad to feel like a complete and utter fool just by standing in someone's presence. If I had to crawl to hell and be tortured by the devil himself to keep her safe, I'd do it. I have never felt as wholly accepted by anyone else in my life, she has found ways to motivate me to climb out of my own grave on my darkest days. Every time a look at her, I see a glowing, deliriously happy future that I know I don't deserve." Heavy silence bore on both sides of the phone, dragging Kenny deeper into the dark crack in his chest, and delivering Jay an epiphany.
"... Have you ever thought that maybe it's about what she deserves?"
"Hm?"
"Listen, man, not everything is about you. This is about her. You just said you would let the devil tear you apart to keep her safe, and yeah maybe you don't deserve her, but she deserves you. She deserves someone who would do whatever it takes to make her laugh and keep her safe at whatever the cost all in the same day, and it sounds like that's you."
"Jay..."
"Just think about it man. And while you're at it, stop neglecting Hana, okay?"
"What?"
"You constantly talk about Zadie, you always involve her somehow when you're hanging out with Hana, and Hana's been getting the vibe that you're upset she came home and disrupted the little bubble you had going on with Zadie."
"She told you that?"
"Me and Hailey, when we were all out at dinner. Just listen, pay a bit more attention to her, stop treating her like the middle man between you and your girlfriend, and work on your self-worth, man. You're a good person and an even greater friend, don't sell yourself short."
"Thanks, Halstead."
"No problem, Crosby."
"So what exactly makes me a 'great friend', Jay?"
"Uggggghhhhhhh."
"Hey! You said it, can't take it back!"
"... This is why we can't have nice things Kenny, goodnight."
"Wait you didn't tell me-"
I Need To See Her Part Three
A/N: This is the last part I hope everyone enjoyed this. This is the final part If you like my work please comment like and reblog it means a lot to see interactions on my work
Y/N’s POV
“Are you okay” Maggie asked looking over at me with a sad little smile on her face.
I knew she was missing OA to and it was hard for her as well. We were both worried about him leaving him there in that bad area.
We were driving for about two hours when i noticed a black SVU was following us. Maggie had perked up to because she noticed it as well. I looked over at her with a worried look.
“It’s going to be okay just stay calm” Maggie said
She took her phone and dialed 9-1-1
“This is special agent Maggie Bell i need backup to my location on I-95 highway westbound there is a black SVU following me i need help” she said her voice a bit panicked.
After she hung the phone she dialed Jubal’s number
“Hey what’s going on” Jubal said
“Hey we need help we got a tail on us I think it has to do with OA and his undercover work I think we got made or something” Maggie said
“Okay stay calm I’m giving local authorities your exact location and we got back up coming and I’ll get OA and Pull him out” Jubal said
“Thanks” Maggie said
I sat up in the seat and tried not to keep looking back at the car. My leg was bouncing up and down and my hands were starting to shake a little.
I could feel my heart racing. Not knowing what that car could do at any minute.
“Hey Y/n it’s going to be okay were gonna be fine” Maggie said. I knew she was trying to calm me down but I could hear the panic in her voice to.
She was just better at hiding her fear then me.
The car started getting closer to us and was itching closer to us.
Next thing there was a loud boom and we both jolted forward and my head hit the dashboard pretty hard. Everything went black after that.
OA’S POV
“Come on Come on” I said driving even faster. My heart was pounding and i tried to remain calm. What ever happened after that boom really didn’t sound good at all and it had me worried.
“Hey slow down before you get us into a crash” Mya said panicked
“I’m sorry i just need to make sure they're okay” I said
“What’s her name” Mya asked
“Uh Maggie my partner” I said not waiting her to know about Y/N.
“No i mean the girl your in love with” Mya said
I just looked at her and didn’t say anything not knowing what to say.
“I can tell by your voice and your face it’s a girl not just a partner it’s more than that” She said
“Yeah your right and I’m sorry okay but her name us Y/n” I said wanting to keep it short
“Tell me about her” Mya said
I looked at her and smiled thinking of Y/N always made me feel better.
“She is incredible and wonderful she’s smart and funny and when ever I’m around her i feel happy and loved and she’s the first person I want to tell my good news to. When ever i have a bad day she makes it better.” I said
“I can tell how much you love her i hope she’s okay” Mya said
I felt bad Mya was a good person who didn’t deserve any of this.
“Hey I’m sorry I never meant to hurt or use you, your an amazing girl who is going to find someone one day and your going to life a happy life” I said to her
She just smiled and thanked me. It was quiet after that and i just focused on driving. I was following the tracker jubal sent me to find their location.
About 10 minutes later I knew I arrived at the scene. There was ambulances and cop cars everywhere. I felt my stomach fall and drop so hard.
I just thought the worse. I stopped the car and just took a minute trying to gather myself. The walk over seemed like it took forever. I was worried my partner and my girlfriend.
I walked over and there was a big relief when i saw Maggie sitting up fine. She was talking to a cop.
I walked over to where she was and she smiled when she saw me and came over to hug me. I hugged her back tightly.
We pulled back and she looked at me and she already knew what i was going to ask before I had the chance.
Before Maggie had the chance to answer me I looked over and saw her climbing out the back of the ambulance.
I looked at Maggie and she just nodded at me. I ran over to where she was.
“Y/N are you okay” I asked taking my hands and cupping her face with them. She smiled up at me and then leaned in and kissed me softly.
“I’m okay just a little bruised up are you okay” She asked
“I’m good fine what happened to the other driver” I asked
“He’s banged up took it bad guess he didn’t think his plan through he’s at the hospital.” Y/N said
I felt a big sigh of relief when she said that. I knew he wasn’t going anywhere and everyone was safe.
Maggie walked over to us and we broke apart and looked at her
“Come on guys were clear to go” Maggie said
“Police are with Jamal right the other driver” I asked
“Yeah they got him he’s not going anywhere” Maggie said
“Thank god” Y/n said and I grabbed her hand and squeezed it letting her know it was okay.
We all gathered into my car where Mya was waiting. We all piled in Y/N and Maggie sitting in the back.
“So which one is Y/N” Mya asked
“That would be me” Y/n spoke up smiling.
“She’s so pretty you did good” Mya said making us all laugh.
It was an hour drive back to the field office. We sat in silence most of the time. No one really knowing what to say.
When we made it back to the office and we all got out. And walked up I walked Mya back to an interview room.
Isobel and Jubal walked in and told her to write down everything she knew and then that a lawyer would be by to help her.
They said they worked it out for her enter the program which was a big relief.
When they were done I walked in to the room to see her.
“Mya thank you for everything it took a lot for you to trust me and i’m happy for you” I said to her
“Yeah it’s going to be good to start new and have a second chance” She said
I just smiled at her and i left the room. It felt like a big weight was gone now that this was over.
With Mya’s statement and mine we had enough to take down the whole ring it was a good bust.
I also knew it wasn’t going to be easy to adjust that it would take time. But I’m glad it was over.
I walked out and Y/n was sitting in my seat waiting for me. Maggie was at her desk waiting to. When they saw me they stood up.
“It’s over Mya gave her statement and she took them all down were finally done” I said
“That’s such good news you did an awesome job” Y/N said
“You really did do good work be proud of yourself and take tomorrow of the both of you I’ll tell Jubal” Maggie said
“Yeah I’m not fighting you on that” I said laughing.
“Let’s go home” Y/N said reaching her hand out which I grabbed and squeezed.
We all walked away and Maggie looked back at us
“Welcome home OA we missed you” Maggie said
“It’s good to be home” I said smiling.
Make it Work: Chapter 3
Summary: When offered a permanent position with the FBI, Hailey agrees to take it under one condition: Jay comes too. As their personal lives and work lives begin to change, the two partners find it increasingly difficult to navigate their complex relationship and manage their feelings for one another.
Writer’s Note: This is just a fluffy transitional chapter. Next chapter we’ll dive deeper into the meat of the story, but I think this chapter still has some pretty important conversations that touch a lot on their relationship/dynamic. Thank you to everyone who has been following this story so far! I really appreciate the feedback and kind words! :)
“You’ve been to New York before, right?” Hailey asked as Jay peered out the window of the plane, looking at the illuminated streets and buildings down below. It was a late flight into New York, so their plan was to crash as soon as they arrived and take the next day to get settled in.
“Uh, yeah a few times. The last few times it was for work. We flew out to work with Manhattan SVU on a few cases,” he said. The thought brought back a flood of memories, most of them ones he had tried to forget.
“I think I’ve heard Voight talk about that before. He’s close with the Sergeant there right? Her name is something Benson?” she questioned.
“Yeah, Olivia Benson. Last I heard she’s a Captain now. She’s a great cop though, reminds me a lot of you actually,” he said
“Oh yeah?” She questioned, sounding shocked by the compliment.
“For sure. She’s got this real solid exterior like nothing can touch her, but somehow she’s still able to have this bleeding heart underneath it all. It makes her great at what she does, and it also just makes her a total badass. We had lost one of our own through one of the cases we were working with her. Erin took it hard, but Olivia was really good to her through it all,” he said, shocking himself with the way Erin’s name thoughtlessly fell out of his mouth.
“We’ve never really talked about Erin before,” Hailey muttered, almost like she was saying it to herself. Jay took a deep breath, brows raising as he realized the truth behind the statement.
“Yeah, I mean- there’s not much to say,” he said unconvincingly. Hailey had come into his life at the burning end of his relationship with Erin. It was at a point when they weren’t close enough to talk about it, but she was present enough to figure out what was going on. After Erin left, the relationship was something he and Hailey never discussed, despite her being left with the carnage of it all. As his partnership with her developed, he noticed her picking up the pieces of him that Erin had left behind. He didn’t know it at the time, but in a way she was saving him. When his feelings for Hailey began to shift, he started to think back on that onset period of their partnership. Part of this reflection made his feelings grow even stronger because he realized nobody in his life had ever pushed him the way Hailey did, and she did it before she ever really knew him. Instead of giving up on him or even just abandoning him altogether, she stayed and she made him fight to work on himself.
“Do you ever talk to her?” Hailey asked timorously, interrupting Jay’s wandering thoughts.
“I haven’t talked to her since she left, no. She’s reached out to Voight a few times. Last he told me she’s working at some FBI office in London,” he told her. She responded only through a nod and a hum.
“As much as her leaving messed me up, I know now that we never would’ve lasted even if she had stayed,” he admitted, looking over at Hailey who had a hopeful look on her face. “I can’t blame it all on her because I was messed up back then too, but we just weren’t good for each other. Instead of pushing each other to be better, we made it a pattern to just push each other away when things got tough. I now realize that if a partnership is going to work, you’ve gotta fight for it even when things get tough. You taught me that,” he said, looking down at Hailey with a sentimental look.
She looked back at him silently, her eyes peering into Jay’s affectionately. After a moment, her lips parted slightly as if she were going to say something, but instead she just pursed her lips into a light smile.
“Yeah, I only did it because I didn’t want to search for another partner. Too much work,” she teased, causing Jay to bump her elbow playfully.
“Seriously though. I’ve never thanked you for it, but I’m really grateful you stuck around. I know it wasn’t easy, but I’m definitely a better person because of you,” he confessed sincerely. The amusement fell from her face as she tilted her head to the side, taking in his words wholeheartedly.
“You know I could say the same for you? You’ve stuck around me more times than I can count, especially when I’ve done some pretty questionable things. It’s why we work. We’re better together,” she said, bumping her shoulder up against his. She smiled warmly at him, leaving him utterly smitten. That one look from her confirmed to him that he made the right decision taking the job. She was meant to be in his life, and he was meant to be in hers. He was just grateful she gave him the opportunity to make that possible. She eventually broke their gaze, sighing shakily before changing the subject.
“So when you were in the city, did you get to do any sightseeing?” she asked.
“Not at all. It was straight from the airport to the precinct. We were so busy with the cases I never really got to even take it in. Even though this isn’t going to be my first time there, it’s going to be my first time really getting to know it. Did you get the chance to poke around when you were there?”
“Yeah, a bit. OA took me around to different bars after shift a few nights. During the day, he would show me the best little hole in the wall lunch spots. Mainly my experience was chasing cases and food,” she chuckled. “There was this one spot he pointed me towards. A must see, he called it. I ended up going there my last night and honestly that spot alone would be enough to make you want to move. It’s a big field of grass at the edge of the city right by the river. To me it was a refreshing reminder that nature can still exist in the city, and it was just so quiet and peaceful. I sat there and watched the sunset, just absolutely amazed by the view, but also surprised by the way I was falling in love with the city. Actually, I think I took some pictures. Let me see,” she said, pulling out her phone.
As she pulled out her phone to show him, he leaned over to get a better look. His face was close to hers and their shoulders squished tightly together as he got a better look of the photos. She swiped through pictures of the sun peeking through buildings and others of purplish pink skies above the Williamsburg Bridge. The last swipe revealed a photo of her smiling in front of the sunset. The light gave her face a glowing tone and her hair was down, her light waves framing her face perfectly.
“That’s a great picture,” he said softly, struck by her beauty. He turned his head to look at her the same time she did, their faces so close together he could feel her breath on his face. She inhaled sharply before turning back to her phone, her face turning a bright red.
“Thanks,” she said bashfully. “Anyway, you’ll definitely have to go there yourself. Pictures don’t do it justice,” she said, putting her phone away.
Jay didn’t realize it, but he was still staring at her, his position not moving from when they were face to face a few minutes prior. When she shifted to look over at him again, he quickly adjusted, moving backward in his seat and distancing himself from her. He cleared his throat, trying to compose himself.
“Um yeah, totally. It looks really nice,” he stammered out, embarrassed she had caught him in the gaze.
After the conversation, they sat in silence until they ended up dozing off for the rest of the flight. They both woke just before landing and debarked the plane in silence with all of the other sluggish passengers. By the time they landed, it was 2am and the airport was eerily quiet as they walked through the terminal to get to the cab stand. Their places were just a few blocks away from one another, so they decided to share a cab into the city. Being that it was so late, they didn’t have to wait long to find a ride. Jay opened the door as it pulled up, letting Hailey slide in first and climbing in right after.
“Despite how exhausted I am, this is already a better experience from last time,” she uttered, leaning her head back into the seat. He sent her a questioning look, urging her to elaborate. “I was so angry and confused that day, I’m pretty sure I spent the entire flight with a permanent frown on my face. I was so pissed off.. at myself, at Voight, at the situation. It took me until I was walking in the doors of the FBI for me to actually process what was happening,” she admitted, her eyes looking into the ceiling.
“Yeah, that first day at work without you was pretty weird. Voight told me immediately that you had taken an assignment in New York. He wouldn’t give me anything more. Said if I wanted details I needed to ask you,” he responded, his head leaned against the glass.
Hailey frowned at his words, quietly staring into the floor as if she were deep in thought.
Jay would never admit it, but he was pretty messed up that day thinking she had just gone off for good without saying goodbye. He called her after shift to make sure she was okay. She was brief, but she cleared up what Voight didn’t: the assignment was temporary and it wasn’t her decision. The next few weeks, they kept in touch more through FaceTime and text. It soon became a natural thing for them to call each other in the evenings as they unwound from their days. As nice as those moments were, he was glad that it was a temporary thing.
“I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye,” she finally mumbled, barely loud enough for Jay to hear. He turned to look at her, tilting his head slightly as he questioned her words.
“I thought about going over to your place that night to tell you, but I was so embarrassed by the reason he was shipping me off, I didn’t think I could face you. I should’ve told you though,“ she admitted, a furtive look on her face.
“You don’t owe me anything,” he told her, shaking his head lightly.
“No, but I did then. You’ve had enough people in your life leave without saying goodbye. I should’ve been there to explain it myself. You’re my partner and you deserved an explanation,” she said bluntly, eyes holding steady ahead of her to avoid his.
“Hailey, we’re good. And for what it’s worth, you never have to be embarrassed with me,” he noted, flashing her a sincere smile. She nodded meekly, smiling back before sighing and leaning back into her seat.
He meant what he said. She didn’t owe him an explanation, but he did appreciate the sentiment. It gave him hope about the permanence of her in his life. Every conversation they shared that night comforted him in a way. Even though talking about Erin wasn’t his favorite, it was relieving to get some of what he said off his chest.
As they drove towards the city, he recognized the irony of it all. New York was the thing that kept him and Erin apart, but it became the thing keeping him and Hailey together. Whatever New York was before, it was now his home. He wasn’t sure how long it would take to actually feel like home, but part of him knew that Hailey’s presence already made it feel that way. He looked over at her, knowing that whatever uncertainties he encountered from then on out, she would be his constant. A smile crept across his face in the dark, and he leaned his head back into the window, taking in the new city with a newfound anticipation.
