New Zealand Parent And Grandparent Visitor Visa Updates - Aptech Visa
A brief update on the visitor visa applications for parents and grandparents from August 1 to September 21.
For customers whose applications for parent and grandparent visitor visas were submitted between 1 August and 21 September but have not moved through the Immigration Online platform as planned, we are executing a one-time change.
These applications did not advance due to requests for medical information. For certain customers, an interim measure has now been implemented in order to process their applications as swiftly as feasible.
With comparable travel restrictions to the Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa, these applications will now be handled as General Visitor Visas. This is a one-time adjustment that will help us process these applications more quickly. If successful, applicants will soon be able to visit New Zealand after receiving a visa approval.
Get a free New Zealand Assessment Form
Customers who are impacted by this are now being notified, and when they go into Immigration Online, their application status can read "lapsed." They don't have to take any action. This is a modification that will help this visa applications move forward.
Applications submitted after September 22 are unaffected.
The good news is that this will only happen once, making it possible for the relevant agencies to process the applications more quickly. You can schedule a free consultation with us if you are one of the impacted consumers to learn more. Your application's "lapsed" status is expected, but you don't need to take any additional action.
What are the requirements for New Zealand Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa?
Identity - You must present identification.
If you apply online, 1 acceptable photo; if you apply on paper, 2 acceptable photos.
Your passport or identity document.
Appropriate photos
Provide your passport in its original form or a certified copy if you submit your application on paper. If you give us a copy of your actual passport, we can typically process your application more quickly.
A copy of your passport must be uploaded if you are applying online. Following your application, we will inform you if your passport needs to be sent.
Health
As evidence of your good health, you might need to have a chest x-ray, a physical examination, or both.
Good character
Police certifications could be requested as evidence of your moral character.
You must present police certificates from any nation you are a citizen of, as well as any nation you have lived in for more than five years after turning 17 if you are over 17 and intend to live in New Zealand for more than 24 months (including any time you have already spent there).
If you previously submitted police certificates with a visa application and they were issued within the last 24 months, you are exempt from providing them.
Actual Intentions
We take into account all the following data when determining if your intentions are sincere (bona fide):
You offer to bolster your application.
We know your specific situation, and
Information you previously gave on applications.
Sponsorship
You must be sponsored by your Grandchild, child, or parent who is residing there. Your Sponsor must be a New Zealand Permanent Resident New Zealand Citizen.

tomorrow officially starts my 15th year in the “United” States. I’m gonna make a cake. Not to celebrate- I was just gonna make one anyway🥕
#something I often think I back on is when I was getting medical exam for immigration#(had to get chest X-rays and certain immunizations from an embassy-approved doctor)#was an American guy who asked where I was headed#and when I told him he said nyc was going to chew me up and spit me out#as it turns out I’ve been okay#but it’s really surprised me how hard life in the United States is#especially growing up with various media that shows a very different story#even more surprising was how so many Americans seemed unaware of how hard it was (although that’s changed a lot in 15 years)#a good friend (also an immigrant who’s now in NJ) asked me this morning if I would leave the U.S. based on result of this election#I guess anything is possible but I don’t think so#I’m in so many bubbles here: in nyc; in my neighborhood; and even in my immediate local blocks#and despite everything this is still the happiest I’ve ever been in my life#also people paint a very rosy picture of NZ and Australia but it’s kinda going to shit there too#omg long tags

ok i have done extremely well at not getting stressed out about the election and instead getting stressed about work for most of the day but it just fucking hit me :/
#nonironically i will leave the usa if trump gets in#i will just not renew my visa and get a job in europe or move back to nz#which would suck complete ass bc i like my job here and where i’m living#but being 1) a woman 2) queer and 3) an immigrant with trump is in charge would be miserable and potentially dangerous#so i’m not going to hang around for it

do you ever just rewatch a movie u love and then go online to see if anybody else Appreciates it like u and then remember that it's not very well known internationally and also ppl without cultural context have some of the most braindead and unintentionally offensive takes imaginable and there isn't even a cute little fandom to hide in bc there's no homoerotic subtext
:///
#now don't gemme wrong it has its flaws#the OG book was by a maori man but it was directed written and produced by white ppl#so as a story it's very touching but as cultural representation it's mostly by white ppl for white ppl#altho even that seems to be too much for non-nz white ppl#but i am a pakeha 1st gen immigrant and so very unqualified to talk on the matter#whale rider

Interesting how the New Zealand government says that only people who believe in magic get to be protected from persecution.
Oh, I'm not joking or being melodramatic:
All extradition treaties and Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters agreements with foreign countries provide that New Zealand may refuse assistance or extradition if it is suspected that the offence for which the person is sought relates to their religion but do not provide protection for those who are sought because they have no religion.

sex work was decriminalised in NZ in 2003. Afaik NZPC/nz sex workers collective is not formally a union but it provides similar services in terms of advocacy legal and practical advice and representation and its made up almost entirely of current or former sex workers.
The NZPC were big advocates for the decriminalisation and have a lot of research about its effects - their website is well worth a look:
if sex work was legal the workers could unionize
#when I was a kid my next door neighbour was one of the main coordinators and founding members of NZPC#she and my mum grew up together#impressive woman#anyway the NZ model is not perfect - I think in particular there are issues at the intersection with our immigration laws#and distinctions between employees and independent contractors#but it's work and is regulated as such including under health and safety laws#nz stuff

alright i feel like i need to chime in here and clarify at least the NZ parts. it's not perfect but neither is the immigration situation as cut and dry as the video makes it out to be.
Sources: NZ Immigation: Acceptable standard of health criteria for visa approvals NZ Immigration: Significant-cost health threshold increased
[...] New Zealand do not grant work visas to those with autism
According to the fact sheet, NZ applicants may not be granted visas if they:
"Severe developmental disorders or severe cognitive impairments where significant support is required, including but not exclusive to:
- physical disability - intellectual disability - autistic spectrum disorders - brain injury.
We may also decline your visa application if in the medical assessor’s opinion your health services costs are likely to be more than NZ$81,000 (NZ$41,000 if you applied for a visa before 4 September 2022). "
Personal note: I take this to mean that if you need round-the-clock care, your application may be denied.
And not to mention the health system is pretty spread thin (? for lack of a better word). Decent care is in the bigger cities so if you live out in the sticks, it's pretty hard to get good quality care.
[New Zealand] will not grant dependent visas to autistic children of non-autistic work visa holders
This statement was likely based off this article where a child was denied her visa because of her autistic diagnosis despite her parents working there.
It's important to note that this article was made in 2022 before the health cost limit per 5 years was adjusted on the 4th of September 2022.
It's not ideal but I urge people not to take these things at face value and look into it.
This is exactly what I mean when I say the society even more “progressive” societies are inherently ableist
#new zealand#autism#immigration#please read more! i expanded on the nz part#tldr: if you need round the clock care as a person with autism you may be denied a visa.

calling ppl "seppos" and trying to play it off as being a neutral term bc it "rhymes w yank" is so weird to me bc in what world can calling someone a "septic tank" be anything but negative
#🍯 talks#tbh i think its the rhyming excuse that gets me#its such a god awful excuse#like could yall think of nothing else that rhymes w 'yank'#and then they compare it to what they call ppl from nz (kiwi) and the uk (poms)#and its like.. neither of those are similar to calling someone a septic tank#ones bc of kiwi birds and another is bc pomegranate can vaguely rhyme w immigrant and a majority of immigrant australians came from the uk#imo they couldve done better w poms#bc a shortened form of a word that like vaguely rhymes w it is the best u can do?
