On Why Taking up Nutrition and Dietetics the best decision I’ve made
5 years ago I had no idea what I really wanted to do in life. All I know was that I had to choose a career that would become of me in the future. As I entered the gates of the University, I don’t know which path to take. To be honest, the 16 year-old me wasn’t ready. To be extremely honest, I wasn’t prepared to choose my life just yet. I remember looking at a bulletin board that was filled with different courses trying to figure out where I would best fit in. My first thought was the medical field. The only medical courses the school offered at the time was Nursing and Pharmacy. I couldn’t really see myself being a Pharmacist so I decided to took up Nursing. I took the entrance exams, I passed and I immediately enrolled. School started and I was very eager to learn. I did my best to excel, my grades were high, I became a Dean’s Lister and I was the class president. At those times, I felt like that was the life for me. Or so I thought.
Fast forward, my Nursing experience only lasted for a year and a half and I have learned a lot from this experience. First is that, life will always surprise you. I’ve always thought that Nursing was for me until later on, I realized it was not. (long story; personal problems) Second, sometimes we experience things and instead of regretting it, we learn from it. Experience is the best teacher. Third, It is never too late to start over again. It doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you are moving forward. I may be runnng a little late than planned, but now, I am finally sure that I am where I truly belong.
Nutrition and Dietetics showed me that I can do things I never thought I could. It wasn’t all books and reading. It was real life situations and applications. It showed me the reality of the world we are living in and how I could make a change. For the first time in my life, I felt like I truly had a mission, and that was to change lives for the better. Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually for Health doesn’t just mean being physically fit, it means being the best version of yourself in every aspect of your life. I realized that the world would be a better place if people only valued their health more than anything else for the true wealth is not seen with material things but with a Healthy Life. As I continue my journey in ND, I start the change within myself. I will be the change I want to see the world to be.

Life update: I've decided I am going back to school to further my education in nutrition. I applied to the University of Akron and recieved my acceptance letter today! I am starting Spring 2018. I will be working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. After school I will have to complete many hours of interning so i can take my state licensing exam to become a Registered Dietitian. This will be a long process and huge stepping stone to better my future. I have never been so eager to learn and can't wait for the Spring semester to start. #gozips #futurezip #akronuniversity #adultincollege #nutrition #nutritionanddietetics #registereddietitian #health #lifechanges
