mr pennycrumb was done dirty
!! og comics spoilers ahead !!
those who have read the comics know of darling mr pennycrumb- five's very own puppy <3
Tumblr media
i mean, just look at them, they're literally so sweet- a cold blooded assassin with his puppy <3
those who have only watched the show may or may not remember him as the little pup belonging to the receptionist at hotel obsidian. if you don't remember him, i don't even blame you, because he barely has a few minutes of screentime and is immediately consumed by the kugelblitz.
he may have appeared, but we were still absolutely robbed of mr pennycrumb.
in the og comics, he's introduced in "The Umbrella Academy - Dallas", in which the Hargreeves siblings go back in time to the JFK assassination.
throughout all the bloodshed and violence and general drama, five is seen taking care of his dear mr pennycrumb while pretty much ignoring the others completely :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the most disappointing part is that besides not even being five's dog, he immediately gets kugelblitzed and is gone within a few seconds of his introduction :(
steve blackman thinks five needed a love interest- and ig the point of that was to show five's soft, affectionate side. i don't think he realises that love isn't always romantic.
i think scenes of five showing affection to this lovely pup, taking care of him, placing him first in the midst of all the hullaballoo- would have been much more satisfying and sweet to see than whatever five and lila had going on in s4.
(i always seem to return to my hatred of s4 in every post i make)

vague umbrella academy au where instead of time traveling Five stays and kills Reginald when he's a teenager, and the Hargreeves siblings are slightly less dysfunctional. Until they start digging into the real cause of Reginalds death

Jack & Joker Restarted the Story!
The first and fifth episodes of Jack & Joker are twins.
Tumblr media
Jack and Joke originally met in a bar in the first episode.
Tumblr media
And five years later, they go back to that same bar.
Tumblr media
And each time, Jack helps Joke escape his Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
Tumblr media
(Peaceful Property's Suradech, is that you player?!)
Tumblr media
Both times, Joke stole something. The first time was a wallet and the second was a necklace.
Tumblr media
And in a sense, he stole both items to right a wrong. The wallet was Carbon's, who had been a jerk to Jack all night, and the necklace was never supposed to be stolen in the first place. But both of the items lead to Rose meeting Jack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The boys have to fight off danger in both episodes.
Tumblr media
But five years later, Joke actually helps Jack.
Tumblr media
And instead of Joke going home to get yelled at and Jack's grandmother patching him up,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They patch each other up in episode five.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yet Jack's ring still gets taken. He had to give it to Boss the first episode, and Hope took it from Joke in the fifth episode.
Tumblr media
And of course Joke is still pulling a con in his signature red.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and Jack and Joke are still making heart-emoji eyes at each other in front of other people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But all these similarities help us see the biggest difference because in the first episode, Jack was wearing a blue shirt, but once he entered the car and into the deal to pay off his parents' debt, he turned black, and Joke was in a white top but lit up red in the police car.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And at the end of the fifth episode, the boys are still in their colors, but Jack is just a teeny tiny bit brighter and the red is only a teeny tiny bit on Joke (his face).
Tumblr media
And it's all because the first narrative arc is complete, which is why we had to go back to the very beginning (go back and look at their colors in the bar the first time they met).
Tumblr media
They got to rewrite their history.
Tumblr media
The first time they met, Joke got in a taxi without saying goodbye and left Jack with Rose, but they met again at the bank.
Tumblr media
Now five years later, Joke wrote an entire letter saying goodbye to Jack, but the issue in the original timeline began because Joke made a similar choice. Joke should've never left Jack because Jack makes Joke better.
Tumblr media
So even in their redo, fate lets them meet again. And it is fate because only destiny would let the boys meet again in a "couple's suite" with that room number.
Tumblr media
The first episode ended with Jack never wanting to see Joke again, and the boys parted ways to live the next five years of their lives separately and miserable. Episode five allowed Jack and Joke to go back to that bar where it all began for them and get it right this time, so instead of Jack vowing to never forgive Joke like their original relationship ended, in episode five, after five years, Jack forgives Joke.
Tumblr media
And the boys leave with each other because they are better, together.
Tumblr media
They need each other for the next part of the narrative, so the show and destiny restarted their story at the perfect time to make sure they were a team to beat whatever is coming their way.

I really wanted to try painting. It's not something I've ever done successfully before no matter how much I tried. I saw a video recently and it said try using a solid colour for your background first. I thought Five at Hotel Obsidian would be a good candidate.

So I'm going to go on a little tangent here. I usually don't do the whole symbolism is the actual meaning thing because it doesn't make sense to me most times.
But I keep seeing the take that the ending of the Umbrella Academy is telling abused people that it's their fault and they have to die for the sin of being abused. I don't think this is what the show was telling us at all, if we're going down the route of things not being taken literally.
When Five goes to Max's diner and meets all the other Fives, they're distinguished by one word in front of their name, which implies that they're not really all that different from each other. Otherwise, they would have chosen other names for themselves. This is an important part of my theory for what the ending actually meant.
The timelines fractured when the marigold was released and created the forty three kids. I believe that because Marigold is such a strong element that literally warps the environment it belongs in (In the comics Allison created a giant John Wilks Booth to kill the Abraham Lincoln statue that had come to life, Klaus can basically raise the dead, Diego can warp space to make things turn and move, etc.) it also fractured the bodies that it inhabits. It created life inside of those women and thus it's not that far of a stretch to assume that each timeline has a part of the people it created instead of it being the standard timeline nonsense.
I mean, if it were the standard theory with timelines (i.e. the timeline is always divulging with each action or inaction that we perform) then Five wouldn't have said they needed to come together. We have always trusted Five when it comes to timeline stuff before, he was intelligent enough to have created the Commission after all.
So if the timelines hold a part of the forty-three, then they have to come together for all of the Marigold Holders to be whole. Their souls may exist in the singular timeline where the durango has consumed the marigold, but we don't know that for sure.
Thus, because each timeline represents a fraction of our beloved characters, the ending where they die is not actually telling them that they have to die because of their abuse. It's telling them (and us) that to recover from abuse and become a non-fractured person, you have to let the version of yourself that your abuser created become a part of you or die off. I know that I had to let go of the person that my abusive ex-girlfriend made so that I could feel more like my true self.
We see Lila and Diego's three kids, Claire, and Lila's parents playing in the park in the end-credits scene. Umbrella Academy isn't a stupid show, it already showed us what happened when kids without parents are born. So it implies that some form of at least Lila, Diego, and Allison exist in the final timeline.
Thus, the ending is not telling us that abused people have to die to stop causing pain or whatever the inane take is, it's telling us that to heal you have to come to terms with all the parts of yourself and let go of the bad behaviors that you exhibit. I could do a whole other post about how the Umbrellas aren't really full people, they're defense mechanisms walking around in people-suits. Our Umbrellas aren't gone, they're existing in a better form and without the pain that Reginald caused them which would fundamentally change them as people and make them unrecognizable to us.
The flower represent the abused part of them, the powers and the Academy and the end of the world and the Commission and Oblivion, that still exists but is so small in their healed selves that they don't even have to look at it if they don't want to.

Klaus is immortal right? How come when Five goes to the future in season 1 he sees them all dead including Klaus?
My question is why didn't his power bring him back like it does in the rest of the show?
Can anyone answer this I'm hella confused.
