@rabbit-exe tagged me to post the first line of 10 (posted) fics and see if there was a pattern.
1. My name is Philip Ojomo.
2. I see something leaving the big house.
3. Quiet. Easy. Gotta get real close so they know even with that skin, it’s a kill shot.
4. *Static Crackle*
5. This was always fun. Fucking with Herman.
6. Michael had been waiting.
7. Die, you piece of shit, thought Quentin, back hitting brick and cement as he took his last step backwards and ran out of places to go.
8. Sole stood up slowly and surveyed the skyline.
9. It’s quiet.
10. The shot hit both of them so hard, they went sixty feet and through the glass side of the next building over before realizing it had happened.
These are, in order, In Living Memory, Apples and Something, Days Gone 2, On Deaf Ears, Not that Kind of Person Who, Isolation, Half-Life, The Nuclear Reaction, Almost Gone, and The Sum of Our Parts. Not all are finished, but all have had at least one chapter posted.
While it feels weird to cut out The Kid and New Dawn Fades when they're two of the three I'm most actively writing, I picked 14 originally, and noticed the pattern was that I tend to establish Mood, Mode, and Voice immediately, and those two were the least distinct examples, because both begin with the character in the scene with the POV character speaking first, so you actually get the tone set from the second line. I thought about subbing Signifying Nothing for On Deaf Ears, because it's a strong example of Tone, but ODE has the single most distinct Mode of any fic, so I kept it this way.
I knew already I often choose not to name my speaker by name immediately, if I have a reason not to, but I do announce their way of speaking as quickly as possible regardless, so their voice will be recognizable. I also use a lot of intentionally odd ways of typing narration (Apples and Something being the strongest example), to reflect how that person speaks and thinks. Probably though, the most important of the 3 is establishing a tone for the reader to take to the scene. IE clearly The Sum of Our Parts, Days Gone 2, and Half-Life begin in-media-res, whereas In Living Memory, Almost Gone, or Isolation are not introducing action, and going to be introducing their content slower and in a more thoughtful way. Apples and Something, Not That Kind of Person Who, and The Nuclear Reaction are in the middle of something, but not something of a crucial level of intensity, so you're going to get more context than action as they begin to take off. I think it's fun to do this, because it helps people know what kind of genre they're opening up since they aren't at a book store, and also whether or not they're interested in the type of action about to go on, right away.
Tagging @allexiaah @tathracyn if they want to do this as well, although take this as an open invitation as well if you write and want to--I just know both of them write. ^u^

Waaaaaghhh!! I love the art where Sol has a bit of a rounded jaw! I think he looks so much more mischievous! Now he has an angular jaw, which I still like, but it makes him look grumpier! One of them is the tricky swindler while the other is the fearsome grumbler!
This is purely an aesthetic difference though. They’re both pretty grumpy
Ngl I usually reference Daisuke's illustrations for Sol's face more than his in-game model so I always forget that they totally changed his face shape in the 3D realm (Strive & Xrd in-game screenshots vs illustrations from Artworks GGX 2000-2007):
But his very, very, first—from 1995—3D model had a jaw shape closer to how Daisuke generally draws it, which is interesting. And a little funny (from Dengeki PlayStation vol.10, October '95):
I love how inconsistently Daisuke draws him in general though, genuinely. It's very "I'm the artist and this is what I feel like drawing today," which I respect and feel on a spiritual level haha
These are all from the Overture Material Collection. Not even his hair or skin color are consistent and these were likely done all in the same year rofl

saw someone on twitter say "one of the main characters in a loki show should have been thor odinson, not some random Sylvie or Mobius.
...... It's like a written law"
wdyt do you agree
I don't think it was necessary to make Thor a main character in a Loki show, the same way it WOULD be possible to throw together a Thor movie without having Loki be a main focus.
The issue comes in the quality of the narrative itself, and writing that if evidently without intention to care for (whichever) main character's importance will not work out. Neither the Loki series nor Thor 4 cared about the arc, motivations, history, or continuity of the titular characters beyond trying to make the media marketable.
Overall messaging can add a layer to the impact a story will have. Musical score can be a bonus way to control tone or tie a story together. Supporting cast can be vital to tell a good story. Prioritising their presence over anyone's (especially Loki's) characterisation is what the Loki series suffered from, not that other, original-adjacent characters were there.

manu hugging rafinha and shielding his eyes from the sun ..I think about that photo all the time
I was hoping someone would bring this up, because not only am I obsessed with that pic (which ofc I’ve included below), but I actually have more from that day:
Oh to be Rafinha…
I mean, just imagine what it must feel like to have your face cupped so tenderly between the world’s safest pair of hands—to be pulled into Manu’s chest, one ear over his heart. He always treats his teammates with such care, like a true mother hen. I love the duality of Manu—so firm and assertive off the pitch, yet so gentle and sweet off of it. That’s a true man right there 👏

terfs when a study shows literally anything positive about trans people/transitioning: 'hm i think this requires some fact-checking. Were those researchers REALLY unbiased? Because if they were biased this doesn't count and if they weren't knowingly biased they probably were unconsciously biased, woke media affects so much these days. Have there been any other studies on this? Because if there haven't been this could be an outlier and if there have been and they all agree that's a bit odd, why aren't there any outliers, and if there have been and any disagree we really won't know the truth until we very thoroughly analyze them all, will we? Were there enough subjects for a good sample size? Did every single subject involved stay involved through the whole study because if they didn't we should be sure nothing shady was going on resulting in people dropping out. Are we 110% sure all the subjects were fully honest and at no point were embarrassed or afraid to admit they didn't love transitioning to the people in charge of their transition? Are we 110% sure none of the subjects were manipulated into thinking they were happy with their transition? In fact we should double-check what they think with their parents, because if the subjects and their parents disagree it's probably because they've been manipulated but their cis parents have not and are very unbiased. How many autistic subjects were there because if there weren't enough then this doesn't really study the overlap between autistic and trans and if there were too many then we just don't know enough about what causes that overlap to be sure this study really explains being trans and isn't just about being autistic. How many AFAB subjects were there because if there weren't enough this is just another example of prioritizing AMAB people and ignoring the different struggles of girls and women and if there were too many how do we know sexism didn't affect the results. Was the study double-blinded? We all know double-blinded is the most reliable so if this one wasn't that's a point against it even if the thesis literally physically could not be double-blinded. Look i'm not being transphobic, i want what's best for trans people! Really! But as a person who is not trans and therefore objective in a way they cannot possibly be, i just think we should only take into account Good Science here. You want to be following science and not being manipulated or experimented upon by something unscientific, right?'
terfs when they see a study of 45 subjects so old it predates modern criteria for gender dysphoria and basically uses 'idk her parents think she's too butch', run by a guy who practiced conversion therapy, 'confirmed' by a guy who treated the significant portion of subjects who didn't follow up as all desisting, definitely in the category of 'physically cannot double-blind this', completely contradicted by multiple other studies done on actual transgender subjects, but can be kinda cited as evidence against transitioning if you ignore everything else about it: 'oOOH SEE THIS IS WHAT WE'RE TALKIN BOUT. SCIENCE. Just good ol' unbiased thorough analysis. I see absolutely no reason to dig any deeper on this and if you think it's wrong you're the one being unscientific. It's really a shame you've been so thoroughly brainwashed by the trans agenda and can't even accept science when you see it. Maybe now that someone has finally uncovered this long-lost study from 1985, we can make some actual progress on the whole trans problem.'

I woke up from a dream just now that I had gone to see a movie with two guys I'd met on the bus, and as they were leaving the theater, I realized I never got their numbers. So, I'm waking up and thinking, "If I hurry, I can still catch them in the lobby. Wait, no. That was a dream. Well, maybe I'll meet up with them later? No. They don't exist at all."
Anyway, it's funny what details your mind fills in and what it leaves out. Neither of those guys have a name, but I know I met them on the 801 bus going north from downtown. Except, I have a car. How did I get downtown? Also, I'm pretty sure the movie we saw was Spider-Man, but I can't tell you anything else about it. Was it live action or animated? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I remember someone in the audience mentioned Aunt May. And also there was a time skip in between when I met them and when we went to the movie. Like, I think one or both of them came over to my house, but then one of them had to leave because he had to... go sing at a party?
Anyway, I don't usually remember my dreams at all, so that one stood out.
