Pairing: Lee Chanyeon (Big Ocean) x gn!reader

Note: I have loved these boys since pre-debut, and Chanyeon is my bias, so I knew I had to write something for him. I've always wondered if the "lose one sense, your others heightened" was true, and I thought that Chanyeon (and the others) would love an S/O who wanted to learn about them and share in their world, especially in a fun way. I hope others can find this as adorable of an idea as I did!

Living with Chanyeon was an adventure every day - no matter how much you had learned about his little life, there was always something new to discover. Sometimes you even got the joy of getting to discover it together, as he learned new things about his life and existence.

You took every new step and experience in stride, enjoying the changes in Chanyeon's eyes as he shared his being with you, the person he loved most. You tried to make it truly feel like an adventure - finding little games or tricks to explore every facet of the new information so you wouldn't ever forget it.

Sometimes you came to him with questions or experiments, and today was such a time. You had been reminded of an old medical tip you had heard as a child, that when someone loses one sense, their other ones grow stronger to compensate. When you came home that night, you decided you wanted to put it to the test.

Walking through the door, you could hear your boyfriend messing around in the kitchen, likely making himself something to eat. He tried very hard to gauge his noise levels based on a variety of things around him, but he wasn't always good at it and every so often you would hear him place down a pan too hard or accidentally slam a cabinet. What you found adorable was that when he realized too late that he had done something too loud, he would cringe as though the noise was overloud for him as well, even if he didn't have his external processor attached or turned on.

You took off your shoes, dropped your things in the living room, and ventured to see what Chanyeon was going in the kitchen. He was finishing up dinner, stirring a pan slowly, before turning to grab the plates he had set down, dishing food onto each plate. You notice that he seems not to have noticed you and you couldn't see his implant so you reached out and knocked against the counter as far out as you could so he could both feel the vibration and see your hand.

He turned to face you with a giant grin splitting open his face, waving hello and saying a quick "hi, love" before turning back to the food, finishing ladling out the portions and putting the food down on the island behind him where you both often sat to eat. He then reached for his implants, which you now see had been charging next to the stove.

You waited for him to put them in, slowly approaching and wrapping your arm around his waist and pressing your face into his side.

He grins at you, placing his arms back around you, leaning over to kiss against your head. He pulls back to hold you at arms length, asking about your day.

"It was good! I was reminded of something today. Could I do another experiment?" By now, you had called it this so many times, it was an inside joke between you two. At first, when you called it that for the first time, Chanyeon had laughed, asking if he was a guinea pig to you or a boyfriend. You had to convince him with many kisses that you didn't see him as anything less than the love of your life.

"Of course!" He grinned at you - you loved watching him sign as he spoke, his hands flowing so smoothly, second nature to him by now.

You led him over to one of the chairs seated by the island, gesturing for him to sit, which he obliges quickly. His eyes shine as he watches you grin back at him, as though he couldn't get enough of just watching you exist before him.

"I heard that if you lose one sense, that your other senses grow stronger to compensate. Do you want to test it?" You couldn't stop cheesing so wide your cheeks began to burn. Chanyeon laughed loudly at the question, his eyes disappearing into crescent moons as he leaned back in his seat.

He nods, reaching up to take his implants out again, which you felt a little bad for. He had just put them in for you and now you were asking him to take them out again, but you knew that he would do anything you asked in a heartbeat and that he found your little tests as interesting and fun as you did.

As he places them onto the island, he watches you for his next instruction. You mime closing your eyes, gesturing for him to do the same. He smiles as he closes his eyes, looking as though he thought this was goofy, which in a way it was. You weren't really going to learn anything about him, but it was a way to lighten the mood and share a sweet memory, which was all that mattered.

Once you were convinced he would keep his eyes closed while you "worked", you lifted your hands, hovering them just above his skin. You lightly rested the tips of your fingers of one hand against his forehead, slowly tracing down along the curve of his face until you reached his chin, pulling your hands away. You did the same thing on the other side, repeating the process slowly, keeping your touch as light as you could.

Chanyeon giggled, squirming in his seat and opening his mouth to speak, but you quickly placed one finger over his lips, telling him you wanted him not to speak. He closes his mouth, biting down on his lip to stop the grin trying to shine through at your actions.

Again, you lifted your hands, this time smoothing your fingers over his eyebrows. At the new sensation, his face relaxes, his smile loosening to a comfortable grin. His eyes flutter behind his lids, chasing your fingers. You move to his cheeks, first feeling the bones beneath with your fingertips, then flipping to run your knuckles across them.

Finally, you allow your fingers to draw a line down your nose and across his lips. His hands rise, grasping your wrists to hold you still as he kisses your fingertips, eyes still closed. He holds you there, lips pressed to your fingers for a long moment.

He opens his eyes to meet yours, eyes swimming with tears and galaxies and wonder. He blinks, a tear dropping, and you raise your hand to wipe it away with the back of a finger.

He raises a hand, cupping your face in turn within his palm. "I love you." He mouths, lips upturning at the edges. You lean down, pressing a kiss to the corner, then directly on his lips. As you pull away, you lift your hand, curling down your middle and ring finger. Chanyeon grins wide and pulls you back in.

No but now that we have that scene with Liliana and Subaru singing, I have this idea in my head of Subaru being an idol trainee that never got to debut because he gave up from his crippling low sense of self-esteem.

Is it because I'm currently into k-pop and want to inject it into every fandom I'm in? Yes.

Will this realisation stop me in any way? No.

So I imagine that, being a k-pop trainee, he would have at least a modicum of ability to perform tasks. I want to even headcannon this to be the source of his love for radiocalisthenics.

One day, after pulling a muscle during dance practice, a fellow trainee came and taught him radiocalisthenics to help him prevent it from happening again.

I would also like to say that he thought up lyrics on the spot, which would make him a good songwriter in general. I would even like to think he penned a few songs for nugu groups at the time in the company he trained under, learning the basics and more when it comes to production and composition

I would imagine that he would initially want a rock concept like Dreamcatcher or more of a suave Bad Boy concept. But he's actually well suited for ballads and softer production like IU or Yerin Baek as well as kooky production like Red Velvet, NMIXX, or Billlie.

If he ever debuted in a group, I would put him in a Lead Vocal Role as well as a Maknae due his age. Because in my timeline, he would be like 15-16. Also, I feel like there were a lot of problems in his time as a trainee, which caused him to drop.

A mixture of insecurity to his vocals as well as a bad vocal coach, overthinking and agonising over his looks due to his eyes, and overall fear of being not enough made him leave.

Now that he's in the Re:Zero world, he has the chance to try again.

disclaimer real quick that this isnt meant to turn into discourse; this is based off of what ive seen with my own two eyes

it is actually tragic how shittly fnc is treating them because they are literally the first dance bg of fnc and they put in so much work, especially more recently—self choreo, self produce, eat cds 3 meals a day 7 times a week and the best fnc can do is barely any promos and almost no creative freedom? it's been eight years and they're still being treated like shit! coming from now or never from how they blew up during the pandemic and finally got the achievements they deserved after so long and then for all of that to start going downhill despite all the traction they were getting is so tragic; it's literally to the point where we don’t even get basic shit anymore (like why the hell does bibora NOT have a dance practice video!? that's LIKE A BASIC PROMOTIONAL VIDEO. NOT EVEN PROMOTIONAL. EVERY GROUP DOES IT, NO MATTER HOW NUGU THEY ARE!). they were actually giving some control to them during DWBH and actually promoting them somewhat but even then most of that was bolstered by inseong and then there was this massive crackdown and international fans get paid dust even though we still exist and deserve to have attention too? i get sf9's int fanbase is minuscule but it's still not fair. someone said that things have been falling apart for sf9 since rowoon left and im ngl i can definitely tell that's been happening even tho i wish for it not to. it feels like fnc is just dragging them along until they don't make enough anymore. the fact that fnc almost gave them a ballad comeback instead of DWBH was insane and its even more insane that they had to advocate for DWBH just to get it to be the TT. with the right promotions (LIKE LOOK AT INSEONGS WORK) they can get tons of attention (AND A WIN COUGH COUGH DWBH!!). like imagine if sequence and wave of9 got the promotions they deserved; those two albums could've blown up like crazy and bibora is such a HQ song that deserves to be a contender for SOTY based off of quality alone but isn't because of the lack of popularity....

my highlight of the year is watching the red carpet events and marvel at all the beautiful dresses and suits the idols get to wear but instead I was in for a whole different treat. kang maximilian with agito! i can't believe it. It's SO ANNOYINGGG imagine how tired I am. It's not even a new thing, it's been happening ever since they announced the hiatus. I even wrote about it on August 2022 (a year ago).

I think it was the first time I talked about it but it wasn't the only time, I think I later talked about it again when he was chosen for the world cup opening ceremony.

The mediaplay has been going on for all this time, and it's literally that. Mediaplay. Nobody was writing about Jungkook's actual achievements or songs, left and right hadn't even been released at that moment. Yet people were already calling him the "most successful solo member". Give me a fucking break.

They've been literally spoon feeding people what they should think of Jungkook, that's what it is. And many have actually ate it up. It's annoying not because it's Jungkook or whatever, it's annoying because it's mediaplay. It's the same as those articles that talked about how Hybe didn't need BTS anymore because they had new jeans, or how their rookie groups after six months since debut were already as big as BTS. It's the same as Taehyung stans calling him the most sought after actor or something when he isn't even actor, which is something I've made fun of since forever.

For the record, I strongly believe no one would even care or talk about this if it wasn't for the fact that it's so nauseatingly obvious and if it wasn't for how they dealt with Jimin's proven success. If they simply and rightfully gave credit where credit is due, these conversations wouldn't be happening.

I prefer reading one-shots, but there's a handful of series that I enjoy as well. One-shots are just a little more easier to knock out in one sitting and you're not waiting for the next installment that may or may never come.

Do you prefer boneless or bone-in chicken wings?

I might get a lot of hate for this but I prefer boneless for the reason that I can easily eat boneless with a fork and not get my hands messy.

What's an interesting cross-group idol pairing you're surprised no one's written?

I'll offer two: one with nugus and the other a little more well known.

First, I don't know if this has been written yet but Tzuyu/Xiaoting would be fun. Honestly, I'd take any combination in this photo:

Second, Riina from H1-Key and Suyun from Rocket Punch. It's not that I'm surprised no one's written the pair as much as it is a wishlist item. Both were in Produce 48 and Queendom Puzzle together, but also just imagine that pairing of two tall, beautiful women.

Hello mikeylo! I have thought about doing a series where the reader is an idol from a nugu boy group, but I wouldn't know what other idol i would want to include or where the story would end up going. Other than that, I haven't thought of any other ideas that I could end up making a series. I wouldn't want to write more than one at a time, so UD will be my focus for now :)

Fanwars are funny. Imagine being a nugu stan and deciding to beef with the fans of one of the most famous groups in history. Like your nugu is immediately having a negative connotation associated with them with this much larger fandom of potential fans just because you can't keep your mouth shut. Or imagine you stan a group who has millions of likes and comments and hashtags from bad performances over the years and you come for someone with a singular clip of an encore. The audacity is staggering. Also everytime this happens I discover more and more performances they've fvcked up from their repertoire.

Second episode of camp Zerobaseone was soooo funny. The members look more relaxed. Jiwoong is soo clumsy but I love it.

Debate king Gunwook. When he started talking about gravity and all of that to justify why his shoes are actually clean was too funny. I’m so happy he can finally talk and say what’s on his mind cos that boy loves to talk and he is so smart. Atleast now we don’t have to worry about him being crucified by knetz for speaking his mind.

The staff are funny, Matthew and that paper were going through it.

Awee, Ricky I just want to see him happy. It must be hard with the language barrier but I like seeing Hanbin caring for him and I like Gyuvin and Ricky, they seem close and they just vibe.

Gyuvin seems like he has such a big heart and gets on with everyone. I liked seeing him when he was leading everyone on that balloon challenge.

I’m so glad I’m not that active on Zerobaseone side on Twitter or on the ZB1 subreddit anymore. The whole Ricky Jeju airport thing reaction was just blown out of proportion. The trending of hashtags. The accusations that the company is mistreating Ricky because yes they probably should have done more research but the staff making a mistake shouldn’t equal accusations of mistreatment.

Especially at the time the information everyone was getting was from sasaengs who followed the boys to Jeju and were crowding them at the airport.

He was probably embarrassed that they were all these people crowding him taking his pictures, then they posted it online and hashtags started being trended. And what did those hashtags accomplish…nothing.

Plus this episode was almost 2 hours plus the amount of thought and preparation that went into this show is sooo much more than a lot of other groups get. Try stanning a nugu group and come back and tell me if Ricky is being mistreated.

I am just glad I am no longer involved on twt and Reddit. I want to stan Zerobaseone in peace, without any drama. I imagine they will be more hashtags and drama going on there but I don’t care. I hopefully won’t see any of it.

I just want to enjoy the time with Zerobaseone without the sasaeng drama, the twt accounts that love drama cos that’s wat gets them hit tweets, without the echo chambers on the Reddit sub.

I just wanted to rant to myself lol. Ignore me.

But this was a funny episode and it made me realise I want to see more Gunwook/ Ricky moments.
