God, okay, thinking about it more, Don Quixote really is the standout character of Traum. there's something about the way that... he's not fully the persona, the delusion, the Man of La Mancha, he knows that's not who he really was and is, which is further reinforced by his decision to flee from Atlantis (phrase that must sound insane to non-Fate folks). he knew he wasn't from the start, but even if he didn't know, that moment would cement it, for how could such a brave and valiant knight as he aspired to be, how could that knight flee in the face of danger, when there were others who were staying and fighting and dying.

AND YET! AND YET! In the face of that failure, nay, because of it, the he is able to step forward, to adopt the persona that is not a persona, to be the brilliant knight that exists in his mind... and in his stories, that he is able to face the Last Emperor of Rome on equal footing. just because that Knight is a dream is no excuse to not follow in it's footsteps! to try and help people, to be a good person! more than mythical honor or glory, this is what being a knight truly means*!

i just think that this depiction of his is so interesting because. like. in a world like Fate's, one so based on depictions of characters and individuals more so than 'fact', it would have been very easy to have a Don Quixote Servant be the Don Quixote persona, or one who fully believes it (a la Limbus' Don). but by having this Don Quixote be self aware, aware of both his nature as knight and farmer, man and myth, that they're able to make a much more compelling character, honestly.

*to Don Quixote. which I do agree with! But several other knights in the Nasuverse would have some very differing ideas (Gawain in Extra...)
