Second lunch is at 3pm, followed by early bird dinner at six. Fashionably late dinner (attended by all the same diners, of course) is at 9pm, then we all have a midnight snack that is in fact a full meal. A 3am top-up finishes the day's menu, and everybody gets one more nap before breakfast. Whew! In the middle of this, the weanlings also get fed on their own, slightly less rigid schedule consisting of "We have finished the food, human! What the hell are you playing at?"

Make sure the person you buy from is known to deliver a quality product consistently and that someone you know at least a little bit can vouch for them and the quality of their product. 

Make sure you’re in a somewhat safe and private environment the first time. Many people do coke at night clubs, but I really can’t recommend doing that the first time. A private party/smaller get together makes it a lot easier and a lot safer, so I definitely recommend that you don’t start out by snorting off the toilet seat - or off someone’s phone screen or key - in a clubs bathroom. Make sure to do it somewhere where you don’t have to hide and rush it. That’s a lot safer for everyone involved.

The first time(s), let someone who’s experienced prepare and dose. Basically, find someone who already knows exactly how to do it and let them handle it - and make sure to tell them it’s your first time so that they keep that in mind when dosing. Dosing coke requires some skill and knowledge and if you’ve never touched it before, I honestly recommend that you ally yourself with an experienced user the first couple times even if it seems easy and you think you technically know what to do. 

Don’t overdo it. The first time I’d recommend you take 0.5g or less altogether. That’s plenty for one evening/night for a first time user. Start out with small lines and see how you feel. Don’t try to keep up with the people who have done it every other weekend for years. Coke is a drug you develop a tolerance for along the way, meaning that the more you take it and the more often you take it, the more you’ll need for the same effect. So if it’s your first time you can and should take it easy, even if others don’t. Be prepared that each dose will, depending on size and tolerance, work for anything between 20 minutes to an hour.

Make sure you have at least a makeshift coke kit. You can snort with basically anything, but in my experience the easiest, cheapest and most reliable method is using 1/3rd to ¼th of a plastic straw. You will also need a somewhat flat plate or a small tray and preferably a table with decent lighting.

Eat a proper meal before you start. Your body might technically be able to run on coke alone, but you’ll feel better if you’ve eaten beforehand.

Make sure to have something sugary and non-alcoholic to drink. Keep your alcohol intake limited. The Unification Church of Japan stated: “We do not participate in profit-making activities.”

“I don’t feel embarrassment … deep remorse is a better word,” confesses Kiyoharu Takahashi, blinking furiously behind his black-rimmed eyeglasses.

For 400 years, a small plot of land on the urban fringe of Tokyo had been in the family, once retainers of the local daimyo (lord of the manor). Five years ago, Mr Takahashi, then a university student, aged 26, persuaded his family to take out mortgages over the property. Although there is less than a hectare of land, it contains the family home, a turf farm, a rented house and two blocks of flats.

Even so, it still amazes Kiyoharu how much the banks were prepared to lend on it. By the time the credit dried up, he had received $67.5 million, repayments had fallen behind and the banks were threatening to foreclose. Four centuries of family history were about to go down the drain.

What caused this calamity ?

Every cent of the money – plus another $500,000 or so in savings that the Takahashis had put aside over the years – was handed over to an organisation Japanese are starting to call the greediest church in the world, the Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity, known to the less devout as the Moonie church – the Unification Church (and now The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification).

Its founder and Pope is the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, a 73-year-old, thrice-married father of [more than] 13 who now lives in the United States, where he has done time in prison for [document fraud and] tax evasion.

Although he is better known for his mass marriage spectaculars – last year he hired the Olympic stadium in Seoul to celebrate the wedding of 30,000 followers, most of whom had never met each other before – Moon has spent the last 40 years building up a formidable religious multinational.

And Japan is the place where Moon Industries Inc, a conglomerate that trades under more than 100 corporate identities, has made its most spectacular, and some would say ungodly, gains.

Young Mr Takahashi is only one of 8,350 people who have come forward, claiming they have been ripped off by the Moonies, since a national legal network was set up to help them get their money back six years ago. The total amount they claim to have been cheated out of is a staggering $568 million. Cases are listed in more than a dozen courts.

Many of them, like Mr Takahashi, say they have been blackmailed into borrowing beyond their means, then handing the money over. In his case, barely credibly, he was told that his father’s Parkinson’s Disease was due to an ancient curse which could only be lifted from the family by prayer … and enormous amounts of money.

Another reformed Moonie – “Tomiko” is a 34-year-old English teacher from Tokyo – was told her lack of luck in love was because of the “dirty” money which she had saved. She took her life savings, $5,000, to a flat where the Moonies sprinkled salt in the four corners of the room, said prayers, and made it all disappear.

“Unfortunately, Japanese seem more susceptible to this sort of thing than people in other countries,” says Hiroshi Yamaguchi, a member of the lawyers’ network, who is handling cases for 25 former Moonies, including Takahashi, Tomiko, and a woman in Australia who was swindled out of $12,000.

People are being enticed into a range of activities which have no overt connection with the Moonies.

There are about 100 Moonie-owned “video centres” around Tokyo where people are invited in and then recruited.

Another favourite ploy is to organise conferences by front organisations, such as the World Peace Professors’ Academy, the Society of Field Flowers, the Japan-Korea Tunnel Task Force and even the Women’s Federation for World Peace, which last year held a meeting at Sydney’s Ritz Carlton Hotel.

No-one knows how many followers the Reverend Moon has attracted since he went international in the mid-1960s. He claims five million followers in 160 countries (including Australia) but a more realistic assessment by former members of the cult is around one-tenth that number [possibly at the zenith – now many fewer].

Even so, Japan – where there are thought to be around 20,000 hard-core Moonies – is beyond doubt one of the most profitable parts of his empire. Or was, until the recent deluge of bad publicity.

Tokyo’s tabloids have been agog for a month over the disappearance of Hiroko Yamasaki, a 33-year-old former Olympic gymnast, who has provided the church with acres of publicity since her marriage at the mass-wedding in Korea last year to a groom selected for her by the Rev Moon. 

She reappeared, renouncing the church and claiming it had all been a terrible mistake.

After being indoctrinated the converts are put out on the streets of Tokyo to bring in other recruits, and to make money selling products door-to-door.

Mr Takahashi displays some of the products he was obliged to sell. There is a 300-gram jar of extract from Korean ginseng (a parsnip-like root which tastes a bit like tobacco and is reputed to be medicinal) – this sold for $1,000, when the over-the-counter price in Korea is about $150. The Reverend Moon’s Il Hwa factory near Seoul is South Korea’s largest ginseng processor.

A set of three name-seals, worth about $125, is sold for up to $15,000. All Moonies dream of selling the jewelled pagoda – a model studded with what look like bits of glass that goes for $67,500.

After her conversion, Tomiko became a real cash cow. Even though she had no property to put up as collateral, she borrowed more than $50,000 from eight different banks and handed it over. She sold her family a garage full of Moonie products – her mother paid $20,000 for a kimono, her father $8,000 for a sauna, among other things. “I became a saleswoman … they said it was the way to achieve heaven on earth.“

Gullible? Perhaps. But 8,349 more like her? Sadao Asami, professor of theology at Tohoku University, believes that there is something about the Japanese that makes them more susceptible to Moon’s brand of religion.

Professor Asami has earned a nickname, “the Devil’s priest”, from the Moonies because of the help he has given hundreds of families, “rescuing” their children from the Moonies. He has worked with 500 to 600 former followers. He says that Japanese remain dependent on their parents much longer than people in the West, and that they are thus more immature. As well, the Japanese culture entertains a variety of religious and superstitious beliefs.

They also, says Mr Yamaguchi, have a lot of money.

Until recently, the Tokyo Moonies have been trying to quietly settle most of the claims out of court. However, in January, Michio Fujii, the head of the church in Japan, wrote to Mr Yamaguchi apologising for the “mismanagement of subordinates of the Unification Church” – but saying that repayment of money would be “temporarily stopped.”

This means that Mr Takahashi is in trouble. The church had repaid most of the money and had taken over repayments on the loans. But $3 million is outstanding. The Moonies’ headquarters is in the fashionable suburb of Shibuya, a three-storey building that occupies most of a city block.

Unfortunately, neither Mr Fujii, nor anyone else, was willing to put the church’s point of view on these serious allegations. They later sent an anonymous fax, denying everything and claiming bare-facedly: “We do not participate in profit-making activities.”

The Unification Church’s own publications boast of a global business empire valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

The core is the Sae-il engineering company, which began making air-rifles, and now manufactures machine-tools in Korea, Germany and Africa. Then there is the Il Hwa company which produces more than 40 different pharmaceutical products, ginseng and soft-drinks; in Alabama, there is International Oceanic Enterprises which catches and packs seafood; in Alaska, the Master Marine company makes fibreglass fishing trawlers; the Moonies own the Paragon House publishing firm, the Washington Times newspaper and a four-storey complex in Barrytown, New York, where they run a theological seminary.

Although his worries are not over, Mr Takahashi – along with several thousand other former converts – is thankful to be out of it. And not to have to go through with the “marriage” he had in 1988 … along with 6,499 other couples. In a hall at a Seoul soft-drink factory, he saw his bride for the first time. “I had built up expectations of how beautiful she was going to be,” he says “When I saw her I got vertigo.”

Two of his fellow Moonies committed suicide. One, a middle-aged woman who was being pressured into handing over some land, jumped off a building. Another, a man who was married at a mass wedding, jumped in front of a car.

“At the time I believed in it,” says Mr Takahashi, “Now I know it was only blackmail and lies aimed at getting their money.”

Five Feet Apart

Have you the seen the movie about dying teens in love? No, not that one. If this is the standard, I think this microgenre is on life support already. I’d say this is simply a rip-off of The Fault in Our Stars, but that feels unfair. This almost feels like a rip-off of a rip-off, a dollar store version of the US version of an internationally renowned Italian art film, and as such I will be spoiling some plot points in this review so back out now if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing. Though there are a few strong performances from Richardson and her best friend Poe (Moises Arias), the world the film builds just feels too contrived to be convincing.

Some thoughts:

One of the only upsides I can see from this #chronicillness life is the overabundance of the comfiest looking sweaters I’ve ever seen. I’m obsessed with every sweater in this film. People shouldn’t have to be sick to be this comfortable in public.

The first time we meet Will, my notes just say “Wow this guy sucks” and “I have never been less impressed by a teenage boy.” I’m not 100% sure my opinion on him turned around that much by the end of the film. He never feels anything beyond a poorly sketched bad boy, revealed to have a soft gooey marshmallow interior when he falls in love. I am at least happy that their relationship grows and develops over weeks (and with nothing much to do in a hospital they spend a lot of time together), but he never feels that fleshed-out or real to me.

One thing I really appreciate in movies is when the filmmakers figure out nifty ways to drop a ton of exposition on the audience without it feeling like clunky exposition. Will checking out Stella’s YouTube page was a pretty clever way to do a huge info dump in an elegant way.

I appreciate that she speaks up and showcases her sense of responsibility and advocacy for her patients. It’s not just patients who experience terminal illness, and Barb is right to not let them forget that - until she is just completely fine with helping in grand romantic gestures for the ‘gram. Kind of disappointed with the evolution of Barb from “the voice of reason” to “the power of love conquers all” but maybe that’s just because I’m old and bitter and on the side of the parents in teen movies now.

Also, I get the whole “taking a stand regarding my life and my health care decisions” thing regarding the lung transplant or whatever but I don’t care what your circumstances are or how invincible you feel DON’T FUCK AROUND ON ICE. 

It’s possible the root of the issues I had stem simply from a stumbling, bumbling transition from book to film. Like, from a narrative standpoint, I appreciate the symmetry - the drowning, the mouth-to-mouth, the tangled relationship between life and death - but I think it’s one of those things that works much better in book form rather than in a film. It all just feels so fake, so contrived, so OBVIOUS. When I think of some of the truly charming teen romances that have come out in the last few years, like Love, Simon or To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, I just know that there is still magic left in the genre, and it doesn’t have to feel this forced. If you’re already a fan of this story, I’m sure the film version will deliver what you want but if not...you’re probably ok staying five feet away from this one.

Marbas made a handicap man walked again. My true story with a Goetic Demon.

I used to be a very fit man. When I was younger, I played varsity soccer and hockey. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with an auto immune disorder, it is a genetic condition, where my body attack itself causing extreme pain. It is chronic and incurable. The pain would elapse in episodes, someday I would be perfectly fine, some days I can't even get out of bed. The pain will keep me from venturing outside, and when I do, I will need clutches. My doctors pretty much given up on me, they write me prescription of pain killers, then hurry me out the door.

My pride won't let me say I am a handicapped person, but the fact remain I am unable to walk.

Not dramatizing  my medical condition here, just giving you a background understanding.

I learn to work from home, so I am doing rather well financially. As well as it can get without actually getting a real job.

Last winter was especially harsh. From mid December until may, I didn't have a day I can walk without my clutches. Even standing up is an exercise of will power. My daily routine really consist of waking up, taking pain killers, falling back asleep. It is really depressing, my life was falling apart.

At the same time, I was learning black magic. Particularly, summoning entities to full fill my wishes. I didn't have a lot of luck evoking spirits. I can't see them, I can't hear them, but from time to time, I can feel wave of heavy energy coming to me. I learn to download and decode those energy as a mean to communicating with spirits.

I was mostly focusing on financial magic. Not being able to work and without a stable source of income, I am looking at a realistic chance of medical bankruptcy. So all my magical efforts have been toward creating financial abundance

While going through the Ars Goetia. I came across President Marbas. According to his Wikipedia page. In demonology, Marbas or Barbas is a demon described in the Ars Goetia. He is described as the Great President of Hell governing thirty-six legions of demons. He answers truly on hidden or secret things, causes and heals diseases, teaches medical arts, and changes men into other shapes. He is depicted as a great lion that, under the conjurer's request, changes shape into a man.

While surfing through youtube, I came across recommendation of his healing properties. So I thought I would invoke Marbas for my legs. I was also rather depressed at the time, so I thought Marbas can help me feel better as well.

So I invoked him. I was learning magic at the time, well, I am still learning, but back then my ritual was really primitive. My ritual consist of lighting a few candles, grab a hold of some crystal, and focus really hard on connecting to Marbas's energy.

And Poof!

Just like many summoning before and after this ritual, I didn't feel any different. No voices, no visuals, no earth quakes.

I might have invoked Marbas again a few times in general rituals, but I can't remember. Soon after, I forgot about invoking Marbas all together. After all, I was focusing on manifesting money.

Sometime after, I was shopping on E. Bay for supplements. Like vitamins and herbal remedies and stuff like that. I came across a vendor selling bulk supplements in powder form. It look rather sketchy, but one of the item caught my attention.

It is natural peperine. What is that, you ask?

It is a purified pepper. It has natural properties that help alleviate inflammation, it is a natural anti depressin, it also lowers your body's tolerance towards pharmaceuticals. That means it would make the drugs you take more effective.

It sounds like a miracle drug, perfect for my situation. I did much research on the substance, poured through scientific journals and did all my home work. It's been well reviewed with no side effects. It is a natural compound that comes with very little risk.  It was 20 dollars for a few grams, it's a bit pricy but might as well give it a try.

I took it for a few days, and I did feel better. It really clear up my depression, and the lowered tolerance allow my pain killer to work better, I am in less pain.

On my way home I remembered that ritual asking President Marbas for help. It had completely slipped my mind. It was as if President Marbas gently tapped my shoulders and said

"How you  like me now?"

Now the skeptic would say I got better because of the drug not because of the ritual. but I think this is how manifestation really work. I don't dismiss the idea that an Angel or Demon would snap a finger and you are healed, but from my experience, they would give you hints and clues, and open a path to your goal, you will have to do your part in the physical world to make it happen.

Adding to the unusual nature of the situation, that E Bay store had been shut down. It was as if it came into being just to sell that batch of drugs.

So that was my experience with Marbas. I don't know if I am cured of my autoimmune disorder, but I am feeling fine right now. Being able to walk anywhere I want is a blessing. I want to publicly thank President Marbas for his help.

How to feed yourself cheaply when you live alone

It can be so frustrating and difficult to get used to living by yourself. Apparently cabinets don’t come magically stocked with spices and you have to buy things??? with money???? So here’s a few things I’ve learned along the way along with some links to other great posts that have information along this subject too.

If 1 and 2 are options then the rest of this post is worthless to you, if they are not options, keep reading.

Your first visit to the grocery store Buckle up because it’s going to be the most expensive one

You need to stock your kitchen since you are not a roach and can’t just eat the wooden cabinets. Every kitchen should have some combination of the “basics” which will be your non-perishable pantry items-those things that your parents house seemingly never runs out of. 

The Basics

-Rice -Pasta (+any other grains you might like such as couscous, wheat berries etc.) -Flour -Sugar -Brown sugar (if you’re into baking like I am) -Baking Soda -Baking powder -Spices (for example, cumin, cayenne, oregano, basil, paprika, etc.) -Salt and pepper -Oats -Boullion or cans of stock -Cans of soup/packets of ramen -Coffee/tea

I suggest you buy these kinds of items in bulk if possible. If you have the space to store them, they will last you forever and items like these can make a meal that is supposed to be 1-2 servings into somethings thats 4-6 which I’ll explain later. Also, buying in bulk is cheaper per pound/100 grams (whatever system you’re using) so in the long run, you’ll save lots of money by buying one fat ass sack of rice a year instead of 15 every few weeks. Check your area for bulk stores, places that sell spices and grains by the weight. This will save you cash and can be more eco-friendly if you’re able to use your own bags/containers.

Tips for meals

It is so much cheaper to cook a larger amount of food at a time than making something for each individual meal. This is because for the most part, you can’t buy ingredients sufficient for one serving at the grocery store and you don’t want to buy something you’ll only use once and then the rest goes bad and bye-bye money. Making a meal that will last you 3-4 days is not only cheaper, but also saves time since after the initial cooking, all you have to do is reheat a little at a time later. You can take this a step further and use grains like rice, pasta and couscous to “cut” the food thereby doubling the amount of servings you have. Below are some really easy recipes that I use that last me days.

Things you can make at home for cheap

HUMMUS! Bc it’s a great snack, filling, healthy and is stupid expensive at the store and stupid cheap and easy to make.

-1 can of garbanzo beans -2 T of tahini (you can leave this out if you want, tahini can be expensive) -1 T lemon juice -1 clove of garlic, minced -Cumin, paprika, salt, pepper

Literally throw it all in a food processor and blend. If it’s too thick, you can add more olive oil or save some of the water from the beans and add that as well. If you do that, less salt will need to be added. If you use dried beans that you’ve soaked and shit you will need more salt.

If you don’t have a food processor, you can heat the beans up and smash it by hand, it’s more effort and it may be chunkier but it works. Same goes for immersion blenders.

Fun ways to shake this hummus up

-Roasted Red pepper: Chop 1/3 C of roasted red pepper and add. Replace some of the olive oil with some of the juice from the pepper jar.

-Roasted Garlic: Instead of mincing a garlic clove, expose the head of the garlic (lol) and rub with a little olive oil, making sure it gets into the cracks (lol). Wrap in foil and roast at 400 degrees (~200 C) for 30-35 minutes. Garlic should be nice and soft when it’s done. Roasted garlic is sweet instead of biting like raw garlic so using a whole head is okay and you won’t die when you eat it.

-Artichoke heart+black olive: Chop up one can of artichoke hearts with however many chopped black olives as you would like

-Pesto: Add in at least one tablespoon of pesto

Now the question is, how do I eat my hummus and the answer is, there’s actually a billion ways

-Put it on a sandwich or wrap! -Dip celery, cucumber, carrots, peppers in it! -Eat it with pretzels or tortilla chips OR if you’re a cheap bastard like me, make your own tortilla chips by cutting up some tortilla rounds, brushing them with olive oil, sprinkling them with salt and bake at 350 for 10ish minutes. I usually put mine into the oven right when I turn it on and pull them out when the oven is preheated bc I can’t be bothered to actually figure out a proper cooking time. Whatever, this is way cheaper than buying chips and they’re more filling. You can also make tortillas, it’s cheap and simple, I find they taste better, but it is slightly time consuming. Here’s a recipe. -Eat it with a spoon wgaf you live alone no judgement.

Coffee Creamer

Hell yes you can make this at home. The basic is about 1 3/4 cup of milk (whatever kind of milk, the more fat in the milk the creamier the creamer) and 14oz of sweetened condensed milk. You can also add in a few drops of any sort of extract/honey or some sprinkles of cinnamon/nutmeg whatever suits your fancy! Here is a bunch of variations. Also put 1/4 of a teaspoon of cinnamon per cup of coffee in with your coffee grounds in the filter for a cinnamon scented coffee.

Popcorn

Well, we all knew this one. But honest to god it is so much cheaper and healthier to pop popcorn using a bag of kernels than it is to buy a box of microwave popcorn. Just pour some oil and a tablespoon of butter into a large pan, add the popcorn and cook covered over medium heat. As soon as the kernels start to pop make sure you start jiggling the pan to keep them moving so they don’t burn and ruin your pan. I’m pretty sure you can put the kernels in a paper bag in the microwave too. Throw salt on it, or even cinnamon and sugar cuz why not.

RULES FOR GROCERY SHOPPING

2. Don’t buy in bulk if you can’t use it all before it expires-like yeast! Most expiration dates are pretty generous and you can actually continue using the product beyond the date (this amount of time varies, please for your own safety please google it). Yeast is the only food I know of that is true to its expiration.

3. Avoid superstores when possible. Most of the time, you’re paying for the convenience. Superstores are often more expensive because you’re paying for the convenience of doing all your shopping in one place. 

4. Ethnic markets are almost always cheaper-especially for trendy things like Coconut oil (so cheap at indian food markets!!) Find Chinese, Arabic, Indian, Mexican food markets around you and split up your shopping accordingly. 

5. MAKE YOUR OWN BREAD, it can be very easy. Google it.

6. Off brand is just as good as the rest

7. Coupons, grab them in the front of the store if available

8. Just because something is a good deal doesn’t mean you have to buy it. I don’t care if orange juice is on sale, I don’t drink a lot of orange juice. You know what’s cheaper than something being 50% off? Not buying it at all. It costs $0.00 to be smart. 

9. Don’t make grocery shopping a habitual thing. By that I mean don’t go grocery shopping every Sunday or whatever. Go grocery shopping when you need to go grocery shopping. If it’s been a week but you can wait 4 more days, wait 4 more days.

10. Don’t buy fresh herbs, grow them. A packet of seeds is cheap. Plastic pots are cheap. Potting soil can be cheap if you can find a place where you can buy by the weight instead of a massive bag. Plant the seeds according to the packet. Things like basil need to be watered often. Things like rosemary and thyme are okay chilling a couple of days without it. Read the packets and google it. Also it’s so rewarding to watch your little baby plants grow. An herb garden costs $10 dollars at the most to make. Fresh herbs at the grocery store cost $2-6 per package. Fresh herbs make meals taste a million times better I swear to god it’s the best thing you can do for yourself. Growing herbs also helped me with my depression so bonus.

11. If shopping at a super store, as much as possible stay out of the “middle”. What I mean is, things you buy should come from the sections closest to the wall-these include the produce, meat, dairy and frozen vegetables. All the processed foods are in the middle and though some can be cheap, they’re not filling and you end up buying them a lot. Doing things like making your own hummus can keep you out of the middle aisles and it’s healthier. Things from the middle you may need though are tea, ramen, grains, soup, peanut butter. 

12. Plan your trip. Thoroughly look through your fridge and cabinets to see what you’re out of. I even keep a little white board on my fridge where I write what’s in the fridge and what’s run out. Write down what needs to be replaced/what you need for the next couple of meals. Do not stray from the list when shopping.

13. Go to Marshalls or Winners or whatever equivalent for things like olive oil, K cups if you have a Keurig (oh fancy fancy) and cool pink salt. They also have other kinds of oils like sunflower and avocado, and even sometimes protein powders. It’s way cheaper there and you can buy a liter sized bottle of olive oil for like 7 dollars when it would cost at least twice that at a grocery store. 

14. Do not have the same grocery list every week. Prices of things change, your list should reflect that. If you’re wanting to get some sort of fruit for a snack, don’t get apples every week. Get whatever is in season. The prices of fresh produce in stores and markets will reflect what’s in season (i.e. the cheapest things). Lucky for us Bananas are always in season and are a super cheap snack that people forget about. I often wait until they’re ripe, cut them up and freeze them to make smoothies. 

15. Don’t be afraid of tofu. It’s cheap as hell and once you learn how to prepare it, can be a fantastic substitute for animal proteins if meat/fish are too expensive.

16. Don’t forget, so many foods can be frozen. If something is crazy on sale, don’t be afraid to buy more than usual if you are able to freeze it. Here’s a list of things that can be frozen. TBH here, in Canada, I buy those big 3L bags of milk and store the little baggies in the freezer. 

Finally, go to Goodwill stores and thrift shops to find kitchen appliances, dishes, and cookware for cheap! The best 7 dollars I ever spent was on a crock pot. These stores have so many items that last FOREVER, like a good pan, or a classic cafeteria.  Don’t think you can’t cook because you can’t afford the equipment. Kitchen equipment doesn’t have to be a huge investment.
