How to Subscribe to Shonen Jump+

Someone asked me for a tutorial on how you can subscribe to the Japanese digital releases of Weekly Shonen Jump even from outside Japan, so, here we go!

THINGS TO KNOW:

A subscription to Weekly Shonen Jump costs 980 yen per month, and it is always charged on the first of the month every month until you cancel. If you purchase your subscription during the middle of the month, you simply have less time before the next charge.

Depending on your credit card, you may also be charged a small foreign transaction fee on top of the 980 yen.

Your first subscription includes the most current issue of WSJ, so if you subscribed on a Saturday, you could still read the issue that was released the prior Monday.

Back issues are not included. You will only have access to the newest issue of WSJ and Jump GIGA when you subscribed and every subsequent issue released after that. To have access to past issues, you have to purchase them individually.

This tutorial is for the desktop web browser version of SJ+. The SJ+ app is different; I have heard you can create a Japanese Google Play or Apple account and purchase giftcards through their respective stores, then download the SJ+ app and buy a subscription with that, but I have no experience with this method.

Shueisha's payment processor can be finicky. It does not accept debit cards, only credit cards. Please note which kinds of credit cards they accept as shown in Step Five.

Because the charge comes from another country, initial attempts may get flagged as fraudulent by your credit card company, so be sure to contact them to confirm the purchase is from you. The site rejected my card a couple times before I was able to clear it with my card issuer and try again.

The SJ+ website is in Japanese; my tutorial includes side-by-side screenshots of the original pages and a machine translation.

Machine translation sites can't access pages you need to log in to see, so if you have any problems and don't understand what you're seeing, take a screenshot and translate the image before continuing.

STEP ONE: Go to the Shonen Jump+ website

They are legally obligated to tell you about cookies. shrug?

STEP TWO: Find the new subscription button and click it

This will take you here! Look at Izuku, beaming at noncommittal passersby, encouraging them to shell out the big bucks just to see his sweet face every week. Click the yellow button to continue.

STEP THREE: Account registration

This initiates account registration. Fill out the information, accept the terms, and usher on. You will have to check your email and click the link they send you to verify your account.

I already had an account, so I don't know if they let you jump right back into your subscription attempt after verifying. If not, go back to to the main page, log in (click ログイン, in the top righthand corner near the new subscription button), and then start the subscription process.

STEP FOUR: Initiate subscription process

STEP FIVE: Enter payment details

Scroll and click the blue button to continue.

STEP SIX: Confirm purchase

It'll look like this. Click the blue button to confirm.

Now you've got a subscription to Weekly Shonen Jump! Wahoooo~!

If you click the blue button to continue, they take you back to their main page with a notice up front.

My Page is where you can see everything you've bought, rented, and the newest issues of your subscribed magazines.

When you are logged in, the main page will look like this:

Notice that you can also access the newest WSJ on the right there.

You can also look at or edit your account information by clicking My Page and going to Customer Information.

Notice that if you need to update your account details or payment information, or cancel your subscription, this is where you will do it.

After you click the red link for canceling, you will be shown a page asking you to confirm. Once you cancel, your subscription will still be valid until the last day of the month in which you cancelled.

Oh nerds, I have had a week of a week. Frist off; house keeping. I got the job in Vancouver and my last day at Camel Town was yesterday. I start in Van in 7 days.

Now for my week of weeks,

While still interviewing find the Perfect Place to live. A 2 bedroom condo in my price range available in time for my start date. Stop looking for other places.

Get job offer, tell new landlord to move forward, get emails from his rental company, look up rental company and see it is a real one that exists.

Make plans with Sister to transport Ianto and I to Vancouver. Sister's partner takes a day off work to help.

Send deposit of 3400CAD to rental company [deposit consists of 1 month rent 1700, and two damage deposits - one for Ianto -totalling 1700]. Normal and legal in Canada. Most places just ask for one of the deposits but not illegal.

Do all that by Friday [9th]

Walking Ianto at 6;30am on Monday 12th - 4 days before planned move in date - and get email from rental company asking for another deposit of 3400 as 'insurance' because they have been 'having issues with transactions from Canada and the United States'. Will not send keys and paperwork before getting the additional funds.

Think for a minute and reply something like 'Landlord and I agreed on 3400, which you have just confirmed you received. Please send the keys etc asap.'

Alarmingly quickly Landlord [not company] emails me to say company got in touch with him and this is their policy. He will give me 20 per cent off rent for first 6 months if I just send the money. [This is the first red flag I actually notice]. I replythat I am moving in 4 days and if the transaction takes as long as the first one, I won't have anywhere to live but be out a fuckton of money.

Calll my parents. It's 6;30 in BC but they are visiting Ontario where its 9;30. Not worried about waking them. Mum immediately offers to transfer the money for me because part of the issue is that I have to move money around to get that much which takes up to 48 hours. I cut her off and say 'I feels scammy' which dad agrees with.

Dad is a retired real estate agent, gets in contact with folk in BC a few hours later while I go to work and freak out [had already packed my anxiety meds... not fun]. Turns out 'Landlord' doesn't have title for the condo.

Also Rental Company email is very obvious fake. I googled the company but didn't check the email. Like a fool.

Tell 'landlord' that I cannot move that amount of money in the time allotted and would like my deposit back please [didn't expect to get it back but... its the presidency.]

Looked for another rental. Found one that wasn't dog friendly. Ianto is a service dog but is not yet certified to BC standards. Thought I'd give it a shot anyway. Called and was very frank; just got scammed, moving at end of week for work, have a dog. She gave me a short list of other rentals she knew accept dogs because she could not allow Ianto before his test.

Contacted a few, Ianto was too big for a few, filled out an application to one, and got a virtual tour set up for the other [this takes us to Tuesday].

Tuesday email my contact at job in Vancouver to let her know that I might not be able to start on the 22nd because no home. She [witn permission] then contacts my board to let them know. One has a line on an apartment.

Discover my mattress is very mouldy.

Application denied with no option to contest, virtual tour cancelled because property manager got sick and couldn't reschedule until this coming Monday.

Call my bank about the scam. They start an investigation which will take about 10 days and cancel my debit card because... I don't know. [bringing us to the end of Wednesday]

Application to board member's suggestion accepted. Need to pay the down payment which is just one of the damage deposits. They take in-person payments or money orders. Because my card is currently... gone. I cannot do online or app banking. Would have to do in-person or phone. Nearest branch to me is 2 hours away by car and I don't drive. Try calling. It takes over an hour to discover that because of the investigation I cannot get a money order done via the phone. Because that would be too easy.

Call my parents - they were busy - texted my brother. Asking both if they could help. Brother puts me in contact with his partner who would have their car tomorrow at the same time my parents offer to do a money order for me. Get the address etc from new rental company [legit]. Send confirmation.

Move in date is [probably] Saturday.

So, a very week of a week if I do say so myself and it's not over yet. I need to finish packing still [wall art, blankets, the last of Ianto's stuff and odds-and-ends]. Still need to get there. Chance the Money Order won't get there in time - as it has to go from Ontario to BC and tomorrow is Friday. but... Better position by miles than on Monday.

There is a small chance my bank can get my money back but.... Unlikely and it was a painful lot of money to say the least.

Feeling cruddy rn y'all. Had to skip out on a night market event (first market this year I've had to cancel) because my house is currently infested with ants and I just found out my poor kitty baby has fleas. So I'm getting a lift up to PetSmart in about an hour and a half to go get flea treatment shampoo, combs, a flea collar, and lots of treats. Poor baby is wanting pets and to snuggle in the bedroom and we just can't let him until this problem is dealt with. This year's been awful for bugs in general, don't believe the bullshit about Canada "always being cold" because where I live it's basically Florida in the summertime, I'm talking 35-40 degree (Celsius) heat with 80% humidity. So far this year (in the new apartment we moved into) we've had to deal with flies, june bugs, spiders, pill bugs, beetles, moths, and now fleas. I feel like the majority of them are coming up from the basement below, it's not an occupied space, just dirt and concrete, but there are vents in on the main floor connected to the basement and I'm willing to bet that's where a lot of the critters are getting in from, especially the ants.

I'm feeling really bad for my coworker and pal who's now having to run the table by himself, but the last thing I need is to be sitting in the sun talking to people for 7 hours when I have 122315832908 other things to be dealing with that are far more pressing. I don't have anything new to present so at best I'd be selling a couple stickers. The weather called for rain and thunder yesterday and it didn't happen. They called for rain today and it didn't happen. At this point you can't trust a single thing our weather report says, just assume it's gonna be hot and humid always u.u So glad Kisu'lk felt that this particular body in this particular point of human history was the perfect place for my spirit to go /s

I'm having to do all of this, btw, with no debit card because I'm waiting on a replacement one to come in the mail after my last one expired. Thankfully my partner's been lending me his but man, it's really inconvenient and it's taking fucking forever for it to come in. Somehow my debit card information was taken and used in Tennessee,Kentucky and Georgia. Well tried to be used I should say. Thankfully our bank is super on top of fraud but I still had to cancel my debit card. It’s Wednesday and I doubt my new one is going to get here by Friday. Kenny never knows where his debit card is for this account and I doubt he will be able to find it,so now I have to put the groceries on a stupid credit card because I am not going to get cash and actually go grocery shopping (first world problems) with 8 kids because I’ll have my brothers two boys on Friday. I mean I have my credit card for emergencies and I guess this is one but I’m annoyed that my card was compromised. People are seriously the worst!

A few weeks ago at this point I looked at my debit card and said 'oh it's about to expire, i better renew that right quick :)' and the banks app had an easy button for me to press to tell them I needed to renew my card. So i did that and got a message box saying my new card would arrive in 5-7 days. And that's swell! that's a reasonable length of time since cards don't expire till the end of the month and I'd been Proactive in making sure to send the renewal request on the first.

And the bank turned off my old card. it doesn't work anymore. Can't buy anything with it, cant use it at all. I had to get a check to pay my water bill this month because i couldn't use my account number/routing info either for some reason.

So i called the bank up and asked "Hey, what the fuck?"

and the teller said "Oh that's a glitch. Very sorry."

"Can you turn my old card back on until i get my new one?"

"Nope:)"

And as y'all know I live somewhere rural. Mail doesn't get here in 5-7 days.

"Can i do Anything about this? I kinda need to able to you know. buy food and medicine and pay my bills,"

"It took two hours and five phone calls wrestling with the shitty phone tree robot that doesn't give you a number to press and makes you say it out loud. I'm a mute. Good things:

-I’m on a Duolingo streak of 7 days. Been back to my Russian and also decided to pick up French, which is completely new to me besides colloquially known terms. I just keep thinking of French lately; I’ll be damned if it doesn’t sound as lovely as everyone always says. An Anthony Bourdain episode in Paris may have helped pushed me over the edge finally… Since Russian and French are so different, I don’t feel like it’d be a problem to do them concurrently.

-I lost my wallet at the Bones concert back on the Sunday before last. I had called and emailed the venue to no avail, and so I cancelled my cards. Even though it took some time, the venue DID finally call me back today to say they had found it! Even though I cancelled my cards, this is still awesome bc 1) the obvious that no one has stolen my stuff and is trying to commit any fraud, 2) even though I have my new Real ID, I had still been using my perfectly good non-Real ID in my wallet cuz I liked the picture better lol. Now I can keep using that one and set aside my other one again until the Real IDs are actually needed. 3) Besides my debit card and main credit card, I had delayed canceling two other minor credit cards (risky, I know… Wasn't intentional), but now I don’t have to do that! And 4) I get back my Patreon member card for my favorite venue, which I had just gotten less than 2 weeks before losing my wallet... Now not only do I not have to deal with getting a new one so soon, but this card allows me free entry to shows and I wanted to go to one tomorrow, so now I can still go! Anyway, about the missing money part: I looked around the internet and from what I’ve gathered, it takes a couple of business days for the money to show up/become available on your account again. This recent post sounds similar to your case for example. (not sure if it makes a difference whether it’s a debit card or a cc)

This isn’t probably of much help because I can imagine how nerve wrecking it must be to see so much money gone, with neither party (your bank and RMP) claiming to have your money, but uh, yeah, the money should hopefully show up in your account soon. Although with the weekend drawing close it might take until next week………. 😬

Im just crying and crying because I'm so freaked out that I was checking my bus into Canada and misinterpreted the drop off, canceled the trip nonrefundable like 30 bucks, plus 20 dollar cancelation fee, scheduled the new one for like 25, but now that drop off location is the same driving distance but a significantly farther walk if I have to, which I might if I can't afford a cab or catch a bus

after about 3 years of the same cracked phone screen my phone has started giving off imminent death knells (constant literally constant USB port connected USB port disconnected and because it's a system notification I can't block them outright though I can snooze them for two hours but this means my screen is never actually off which drains the battery and worries me when it's in my pocket)

And i thought hey, might as well get a new one. The paint on the case is also worn quite a bit away and the fingerprint scanner only works when it feels like so it will be nice to upgrade. It might even take less than 10 seconds to switch tabs.

Now here's the problem. Samsung won't take my fucking money. I have ordered this phone three times already. They send me a confirmation email. Then a day later they tell me (with the order code and model number a scammer wouldn't have don't worry the only thing they're scamming me for is my time) that the order was canceled due to insufficient payment info so I went back to the website (through the browser not clicking links on the email this isn't a scam but it feels like it is) and double checked everything was correct except for the big *canceled order* label.

I have done this three times. I have used both my credit and my debit card. I made an account for the third one.

I feel like I'm in fucking crazy town. What Do You Mean It's Not Complete show me the fucking box to fill!!

Customer support is also useless, to be expected. They have a little box you can describe your issue before even entering the chat room but they won't read that so I copy pasted the text whatever doesn't matter. They gave me someone else's payment information in the process so that's assuring.

They eventually just told me to go buy it from my local best buy and sure fine yeah that's a good look.

I went to best buys website and ordered the phone and my only complaint is that they sent me a verification code by email but then went to the next page before I even got the email?? That's sus. Wh why did you send me a code? If you're going to the next page anyway??

Whatever. Best buy has same price as from the official site, and free shipping arrives sooner than if I got the expedited shipping first try from the official site.

Life is Incredibly Hard (A Rant)

This entry has nothing to do with pop culture; it's more about the struggles I'm facing these days. So if you're not looking for something like that, scroll on. I won't mind.

My husband and I have been fine financially for the majority of our time together (just about 14 years now). We've had to move for work a couple times which severely depleted our savings each time, but we were able to buy a small house in 2022. And that's when everything went to hell.

In June of 2023, my husband was laid off. This was just after we had to replace our AC unit, and just before our roof had to be replaced (this was a mandatory requirement in order to keep our home insurance). The AC, which cost about $9,000 to replace, we're making monthly payments on. Our electricity went wonky in July, and loose wiring and a faulty breaker box had to be repaired for about $3,000. The roof had to be fully paid off according to our insurance by the September deadline, which was approximately $15,000. Oh, and during this time, we'd had free solar panels installed to help with the electricity bills, and when we told them that we had to have the roof replaced before the install, they said there'd be no cost to us. When it came time to actually take the panels down for the replacement, it suddenly cost just under $2,000 to remove them, and the same cost to reinstall them after the roof was done. I was furious, but we've dealt with it.

We had just moved from Tennessee to Florida, which was a large expense as it was, combined with the purchase of the house. Even my savings had been squeezed down almost as far as it could go at that point.

My husband has been looking for jobs and actively applying to jobs in almost every field every day since 2 weeks before his official lay off date. After a month of not even receiving interviews for any, we knew this was going to get bad. So, we borrowed money from his brother to pay for the roof and not have to worry about it. We will pay him back eventually, but he's aware of how strapped we are.

Last year was rough as it was, because his family was suffering from an impending loss. A family member was ill, and it looked like she wouldn't make it to the end of the year, so my husband had to travel up north to stay with them and help out where he could. He was gone for weeks, and only used our credit card to pay for anything. He came back for a little while when it looked like she might survive after all. At that time, with all the money we were hemorrhaging, we liquidated one of his 401k accounts.

I got a promotion in August, but I'm still making under $50k a year. Before taxes.

In November, his family member did pass, and we went up for the funeral, which was not cheap. Since then, we've been living off what I make (when I could pick up overtime) and his 401k money. We've been getting by.

But now, here we are, with July looming, and my husband has still not gotten a new job. His brother's money is gone. The 401k money is gone. His own debit account was shut down last year after it sat empty for who knows how long. Our mortgage payments (which include insurance and taxes) jumped almost $500 a month due to a new taxing structure and new insurance companies (because homeowner's insurance in Florida has gone full on predatory at this point).

In addition to all this, my company has been going through a merger for the last 6+ months, and no one can tell us how the organization will look at the end of it, who's staying, who's being moved to different departments, or if we'll even have jobs in 3 months. And our overtime has been cancelled as of last week. But just keep smiling, right? Oh, and there are specific states my company has forbidden their employees from working within. I've posted on TikTok before about our issues, way before they got this bad, and there were people asking for my PayPal or Venmo to offer money, but I felt bad accepting the help. Instead, I directed them to my books, or the merch that I offer. (To be fair, no one buys my merch or my books all that much. I've had exactly 1 sale of stickers, which netted a whopping $2 profit that I can't even claim because it's too low, and the average I make on my books in a month is less than $3.) I'd rather that people get something in return for the money they pay me. But now, I just don't think I can continue with that line of thought. I don't want to start a Go Fund Me, but I'm not even sure what other options we have.

Anyway this post was made because I told a woman that the pin pad was going to ask if she wanted to sign up for the store credit card, it did, she asked, "what's it saying?" And I said, "do you want to sign up for the [store] credit card?" She said nothing and hit accept, which takes my register to a screen where I have to fill out her information, but I had a hunch she didn't actually want a fucking credit card, so I asked, "oh, okay. Can I get some info for the credit card?" So she puts her card in the machine to pay for it and I say, "no, no, it's not ready for you to pay yet, I just need your information if you want to get a new credit card"

"What?"

"You wanted to start a new credit card. Because you hit accept. When I asked. If you wanted to start a new credit card."

"I don't want a credit card"

"Okay well that's why I asked twice if you wanted to sign up for the credit card. Because when you hit Accept, and then try to cancel, it freezes up this (piece of shit) computer and I have to use another one. Only, you also decided to shove your card in, so it simultaneously tried to start the process of getting you a credit card and charging your debit or whatever for this transaction, which means you're locked in. You've also fucked me. Now my register's fucked. I fucking hate you so much." (A bit of that was only said in my mind)

And this happens at least a few times a week. Whenever that stupid fucking message pops up, "Customer is eligible for a [store] credit card, they can save 10% and lick our balls!" It doesn't matter how fast I tell them to hit decline and skip it they just don't fucking listen and hit accept. They're so stupid. And the fucking survey question???? Gods I wish they would do away with that shit it's too complicated for these morons most of the time. They're halfway out the door before the stupid machine's even loaded the question and then they bitch about not getting a receipt well honey if you PAID ATTENTION and STUCK AROUND the "how do you want your receipt" question's at the end. Just spare another 15 fucking seconds it doesn't matter.
