Transformers More Than Meets The Eye Retrospective: Annual #1: Ultra Magnus, What A Joke (Patreon Review For Brotoman.EXE)

Hello all you happy autobots and after a long side trip for beetlemania, we're back on the lost light!

In full too as for the next few months at least, we're back to the main story. Kinda. This story takes place BEFORE Shadowplay, our last covered one, but was put here so it could be paired with avengers annual #10 patreon review wise, but other than Rung still being headless it's not so out of synch that it coudln't be moved around.

Thankfully after this it's a straight shot to the end of season 1 with just three arcs to go, which teneatively will be covered in novemeber and december, with another break for a specail halloween suprise in october. After that we have the big crossover Dark Cybertron, which while serving as the end of Season 1 of this era of transformers, feels more like a big finale movie. It still has ramificatoins for both.. but both sides also had a proper finale before this.

So before things get explosive we have a character piece here.. and like with Shadowplay my general view was

The art didn't help. . As I said in another review of a great comic's less than well done annual, I TRY to be positive and for the most part the art on this book is great, but the art for this annual is pretty bleh. It's this weird mix of very 90's faces and very bland coloring that just dosen't not work.

The story itself however is pure setup for the finale, setting up a mystery to be solved there, some character growth with dire consequences for Magnus, while also, as tends to be standard for Roberts, setting up a plot point for much later in the story. So let's take a close look at MTMTE Annual #1 under the cut and see some smiles, some beaurcary and a giant robot man.

We open with an action set piece that dosen't do a lot for me. The art just isn't fluid enough and it's especially a downgrade from the regular artists, making it even more noticeable. It dosen't help the microcons their fighting look more like live action transformers,

And you can see the dullness I mean too. Our heroes still have their designs.. but the colors try to make them more realistic. Concidentally this scene is set in ultra magnus' mouth as some nanocons a decpitcon shot him with long ago have awakened and threaten to combine and kill him and then the ship, so our heroes have been shrunk down to deal with it. The only way to stop this realistic scenario that happens to everyone all the time is for Magnus to smile, destroying the generators in the pistons he uses for that.

This opening is a great example of just.. how much fun James Roberts has with MTMTE. While at it's core MTMTE is the kind of high concept sci fi you'd find in say Star Trek or Fantastic Four, he also doesn't forget he's writing giant colorful merchandisable battle robots that can turn into those nitro burning funny cars, vroom vroom! Besides the various jokes on the toys, he's not afraid to just go balls out silly.. while still having lots of nice genuinely deep sci fi couched within. It's essentially what i've heard Star Trek Lower Decks is before that existed: taking the piss out of a stored decades long franchise.. while still staying UTTERLY loyal to that franchise and why people love it.

Magnus tries to do his normal grumbly telling people ot straighten their badges and such , but everyone mocks him, something he takes with grace dignity and plans to resign as soon as possible.

First we get some smaller character stuff as everyone prepares for Tailgate's cermony, but it's all good: Rewind worries about Chromedome who is having a flash of ptsd... someone else's ptsd from the memories he's absorbed, Tailgate tries to get Cyclonus to attend but he's still being a mopey puss about it and Swerve passes by shock and or ore.. only for them to speak.

We'll table that problem for now as Drift's forced to have an invtervention for Hot Rod. He's been wearing a giant foam cowboy hat for 8 months now. He can take it off any time he wants he just dosen't want to, so they instead pivot to another problem: He's been saying "Till All Are One" every five minutes. Rodimus deflects it.. and i've noticed as i've re-read season 1 that it's a pattern with him, and one that carries till the final arc of the series: Rodimus prefers to dance a little side step instead of face most of his problems. Just put it off to the side and let it sort itself out or let someone else handle it. And when he does tackle an issue, he usually handles it recklessly, impuslviely and half assedly

It's not that he's lacking any talent, his improvisations often work as seen with the very first issue, or that he's a terrible person: he loves his crew, as seen both with the red alert incident during shadow play and in this issue as when Magnus comes barging in demanding a new crew.. he explains that it's their way of showing affection. I mean granted i'm sure some of those are just jabs at his humilation, Magnus is a fun character but not exactly someone people like and he liked it that way, but his point is clear: it's okay for Magnus to be a person and not just the duly appointed enforcer of the tyrest accord. It's that humanity, for lack of a better term, that makes Rodimus likeable even when he's being a whinybabyasshatbot. He simply wants to be loved and respected, and this quest is more about personal validation by the universe than it is real enlightnment. He just wanted to do something big and showy to show he really earned having the matrix for a time and he really is worthy of being a prime. He just wants to be loved and can't accept that maybe.. he's just not the big sweeping hero go. A big sweeing hero guy sure, but he's not optimus and that's okay.

While Magnus stews on this advice, we also find out our heroes next stop: The Crystal City, home of the circle of light. Something that confused me as whlie this book is good at expositoin normally they kinda dropped the ball explaning these guys in a way that made sense if you hadn't read the drift mini.

The Circle of Light is a group of cybertroninan ninja monks who preach non violence and live in a walled off city, having largely skipped the war. They took in Drift at his lowest and the kind treatment and mentorship of their leader, Dai Atlas, convinced Drift to turn face and the circle in turn backed him when he needed their help.

This series recontecutlaizes them as having been avid followers of the knights of cybertron, a nice little addition, and thus seeing them, while also a homecoming of sorts for Drift, is important as if they can get them to join, they have all the help they'll need. The only problem is... Magnus can't raise them on coms and while Drift is assured given their badassery their fine.. as we'll soon see Magnus was right to be worried.

The ceremony itself goes off the rails: not only does Hot Rod fail to not use some form of till all are one, but Tailgate dosen't get to do his speech.. and his autobrand turns out as anceient cybertronian. Something is channeling through Hot Rod, and the bots who fell out of the airlock as we find out via an expesition dump during the ceremony.

Our heroes have even better concerns as the galactic council shows up.

While they explain it after this scene, i'll go ahead and filll any newcomers in, as Magnus does for Tailgate. It's a great part of having tailgate around: it allows Roberts to do worldbuilding without having to work too hard for it , as most of the cast would know this. Their essentially this universe's federation, a group of higher order plaents bound together to protect each other. They've recently taken on more policing, a red flag if their ever was one, and aren't fans of the cybertronians due to their war, having blacklisted them and being right dicks to Rodimus, having anxexed this territory as the Crystal City is abandoned. That itself.. is a dick move as they didn't bother informing cybertron, and the war's been long over enough, of any of this so they could investigate, instaed scavanging. It's some nice show don't tell: it shows that while these guys DO do some good and claim to be benevloent.. their really beucractic wankphesants who blame a whole race for the war.

Luckily the Lost Light has a secret weapon...

After Mags has finished hermes conradding this guy into a corner, in part because he's the only person here M Bison IN SPACE respects, we find out the deal: one hour to investigate for "religious reasons", which both sides know is basically bullshit but they need to look into this.

We get a brief interlude with Swerve, who has a heart to heart wtih Shock.. and also lies that he's pipe as like most people Swerve didn't make the best first impression. He confesses about the shooting of rung if from a third person and agrees with Shock's assetment he's a scumbag. It also explains WHY Swerve's so willing to help the next arc: he feels deep guilt for it and while it was on orders.. that makes it worse. Swerve admit she was more scared about loosing his bar than doing what's right. Later on drift further muses about feeling... a lack of purpose. That the war ending was supposed to be awesome and everything resolved.. but it really isn't. There's no real ending to life after all and as Shock puts it he's lucky to be alive if nothing else.

On the surface we get an away team consisting of most of our main cast but notably lacking Magnus, who we'll get to in a moment. They find the crystal city but..

Drift naturally mentally wigs out a bit: his people are missing, the city is ransacked and their biggest lead is now a massive dead end. It's only Rewind suggesting that he uses his sword to try and commune with the city that snaps him out of it... and only punching a mocking Whirl that fully gets him on mission. Instead of getting any graet message stabbing his sword into the city instead makes autobots go down the holeeeeeeee

We then find out where Magnus is: turns out the Council abducted him.. so they could ask thim to join him, having found him just over these decades of wars and never wavering. Essentially it's everything UM could ask for: defined rules, structure, order and respect. and metro titans are their ancient cousins, apparently created by the knights of cybertron, they can touch into other realms and such. So they decide to learn more about this thing to go on a BRAIN QUEST!

Six minutes later the brainquest is over and they found it. Great joke. And at the center... Cyclonus is in reverent awe as he used to worship at th efeet of metrotitans and gives his own version of the cybertronian creation myth, with Rewind naturally recording it since he dosen't have this version in his archives.

So once upon a time there was primus

Who found cybertron and some sparks and wanting to give it life, split himself into five gods

But like most media portrays mythical death gods, Mortilus eventually rebelled, wanting to conquer and war were declared. While our heroes won they were left in bad straights, each dying but becoming part of cybertron itself: Primus became Vector Sigma, the computer at the heart of cybertron and the source of sparks, Solmus became the Matrix of Leadership, and Epistemus and Adaptus the model for brain moduels and transformation cogs. And out of them came a new generation of Cybertronians to spread peace: The Knights of Cybertron. All of this will naturally be very important later.

For now though Ratchet is doing his usual over the top athetist schtick and Drift calls him out for being a dick: Being an Athiest? Fine. Mocking someone else's beliefs simply because he doesn't think their true. Not okay. Ratchet further digs himself deeper by outright stating Drift is so religious because he wants absolution for everyone he killed as a decpticon.. and nearly gets a sword in him for it. Not the best way of showing your not a murderer anymore, but well warranted. It's okay not to be religious, especially given how much harm some religions do. But it's not okay to mock someone when their beliefs aren't harming anyone.

So naturally Rodimus' next move .. is to have Chromedome try to braintap the giant... and it goes as well as you'd expect.. heavy feedback.. and the titan waking up screaming, rumbling the planet and leading M. Bison IN SPACE to assume this was all a trap.

So he plans to burn the lost light and EVERYONE on board in retaliation, and is leeching off their warp drive so they can't escape

Magnus has rejoined them, having turned down the offer , we'll find out why later and giving Rodimus a fond farewell, telling him to say hi to the knights of cybertron for him while Rodimus ORDERS him not to die, begging him. Their one hope is activating the drive.. but that involves swerve telling Shock the truth.. and he simply.. can't. And while this could come off as dickish.. the why is as heartbreaking as it is glorious

It's a hard choice.. but it was his. And inspired by this... Rodimus chooses to set the titan free instead of having him shrunk for his knoweldge. And it calls back to something Drift said earlier I glossed over: that when the right time came, Rodimus would save them all. And.. he does. By doing the right thing, the Titan warped everyone out of there and since he was linked up to Ore, it also freed the lost light.. and Ore is gone. Why? No one knows. But our heroes are safe and for once Rodimus has an actual plan, having relalized from this experince his winging it... has consequences.

So with our course for the next arc set, we end on the Council.. and just WHY Mags turned down his dream job

Naturally for this comic, M. Bison IN SPACE will be back. For now though it's the last part that's important: that despite not wanting to change, despite his inflexiblity.. magnus sees that .. maybe inflexiblity isn't a strength. That not accepting any change, not changing will only make him tyrants like the council. It's being faced with everything he could want and everything he could become.. that gets him to evolve past what he's been... and smile.

This issue, as you can probably wager is excellent. The art is.. not good and I won't slag it further, and it does drag the issue down slightly.. but the character work, from Swerve's chats with Shock and or ore, to Rodimus' desperation at the end, to Magnus growth is phenominal and this one issue spotlights the series at it's best: introspective, engaging and reallyf ucking weird

hi yes tell us more about there was a falling out!

oh my goodness. now this is an old WIP i can get behind. the ramble is going to be extremely long because there’s a lot to say and i have no filter. there’s also some fun stuff about insect poison that goes into this so yay!

content warnings for fictional murder and drowning

this novel was my very first nano project, written in november 2017. for those of you who might not know this snazzy little bit of insect poison lore, this is actually the origin of insect poison!

there was a falling out (twafo) was written in two different timelines, switching point of view every other chapter. the first was from a 3rd person narrator telling us the story of a boy named robert quell (wtf kind of name is quell? i don’t know, ask 14 year old me who needed a last name on novemeber 1st), who would later go on to become one of the most infamous serial killers of all time, the very first person he murdered being his twin sister, ruby (yeah, no). the second point of view, written in present tense 1st person, was from the point of view of a teenager who he would, in his adult life, kidnap (along with her friends, several of whom he’d... y’know.., kill).

while the prose in this story is obviously not up to my current standards or level, i’m actually really proud of this story. i was going through a really difficult point in my life at the time, was doing choir, a musical, FFA (if you don’t know what that is, i was basically spending 6 hours a week writing + memorizing speeches about agriculture), and normal school stuff all at the same time at that point! i would go to school, go to choir rehearsal, go to FFA practice, and then go home, do homework, and then write over a 1000 words every weeknight. i literally don’t know how i did it. the existence of this book, no matter how weak the characters or cliché the prose, is a miracle in itself.

so... somehow this turned into insect poison.

this book never really left me, exactly. this story and one other one from that point in my life were ones i really rushed (which i don’t necessarily regret! taking my time back then would have bored me and i would’ve given up), and never let the concepts solidify fully. my perception of robert would be different every time i thought about the book post-writing it, and i would realize he wasn’t who i had originally planned. after that, i knew i’d have to re-write it someday, and it wasn’t just going to be about some random serial killer who’s first kill was his twin sister. that scene ended up becoming the shape of insect poison, but even the bones of that scene would change. ruby would become ramona, ramona would become the “instigator”, the lines between accidental death and murder would become confusing for everyone involved. and oh yeah, there’s ghosts now??

overall this book is a mess, has a lot of logical fallacies, and has 2-dimensional characters galore. i really thought “the more the merrier” and just added someone new every time i didn’t know what to do. and by that i mean every other page. but at the same time, i really loved it and in some ways, still do, because it gave me insect poison. and even though that book is also a hot mess, it made me realize that i don’t actually hate writing prose, i just hate writing traditional story structures and young adult

so.. yeah. i guess this is the part where i put an excerpt, isn’t it? (also, i tried to give the 3rd person narrator a personality but it didn’t work. i know all of my followers are too nice to bully 14-year old me but wow... i deserved it)

Some might say that if Robert Quell’s father would have left for work just a little bit earlier that morning, the course of the young boy’s life may have taken a completely different turn. However, I disagree and I personally believe that the young boy’s fate was written, if not set, in stone.

Tuesday. Cloudy, most likely going to rain in the afternoon, a great day for watching movies on the couch or looking through old stuff in the attic kind of a Tuesday. You know the one, I’m sure. In the Quell family, these Tuesdays did not exist as they do in your home or mine. Everything is different in the Quell family. Everything is slightly off.

I haven’t been on here in months. Whoops. I feel like that tik Tok where it’s like “hey how y’all doin.” Anyway I would just like to say that black lives matter and the shit that’s been going on in the last 300 years if were gonna be honest with our selves to African Americans in this country is disgusting. People are dying in the streets and now that people are saying enough is enough, protesters are being arrested before Brenna Taylor’s fucking murderers. Naw that shits gotta end.

I’m white so I will NEVER understand what POV espically African Americans face everyday in this county. Because I have privilege. My friends don’t even though we grew up in the same neighborhoods, doing the same ghetto shit, and making the same amount of money. They have to work 10 times harder than I do to just excist and not die everyday at the hands of cops because my skin color happens to white and theirs is black.

Idk what race any of y’all are and honestly I don’t care. But I will say if your white and your gonna sit here and tell me privailage doesn’t excist or all lives matter you can unfollow me now.

This isn’t just a fight for African Americans no matter your race watching what happened to Gergoe Floyd on camera, hearing about Brenna Taylor, fuck even thinking back to Trevon Martian. This is a fight for everyone because at this point if your watching this shit and your not speaking out your apart of the problem. So sign petitions, donate if possible and please for the love of God if you are over 18 and live in this UNITED STATES VOTE IN NOVEMEBER AND PRIMARIES THIS SUMMER CAUSE CHANGE DOESNT HAPPEN UNLESS YOU USE YOUR VOICE!

One more thing, to America and this isn’t just the people this is just America as an idea don’t y’all think Emmit Till should of been the last African American BOY who was killed by white supremacy? Just saying.

What are some of the tvd to fandoms greatest hits so to speak... I was only in it for a short time and then jumped out because I couldn't stand to

Oh, well allow me to be your guide. This will be under a read more because I already know, I’m gonna write a whole essay. Shout out to my ride or die @hellsbellschime.

I don’t think any overtly crazy happened during the good!TVD years. No wait, I’m lying.

The year the spin-off got announced, I believe it was tvguide, that posted an article with like info tidbits for currently airing shows. And one of them, was that Hayley was pregnant with Klaus’ kid. I remember this shit so clearly, man. Everyone was so confused. And then they were like SURPRISE, APRIL FOOLS. Because it was in fact April 1st. So ha-ha we all had a laugh, great. Fastforward to what, late April? Episode 4x20 airs, and it’s exactly what happened???

That whole day btw, the day the backdoor pilot for TO aired was just insanity. I’ll say that about a lot of days in this answer, but that day was really just something else. Like we were delirious, that’s the only way I can explain what happened on here. It was a nightmare but also one of the funniest night’s I’ve ever spent on here. I gotta go back for old time’s sake and reblog some of the shit from that night because we all snapped. And not in the good way.

The TVD 100th. Now, we knew Joseph was coming back for that episode so they hype was real. Because up until that point, we’d gotten a huge load of nothing in regards to Klaroline. They released a trailer, a short one, that’s still in my favorites folder on youtube to this day. I rewatch it all the time because it’s iconic. And there was literally .002 seconds of Klaroline. It’s Caroline standing and then Klaus says “hello, caroline” and everyone lost their shit so much when it dropped that ‘hello caroline’ trended ww on twitter.

THE DAY THE NETWORK THAT AIRED TVD IN AUSTRALIA AIRED A PROMO WITH THE KLAROLINE KISS IN 5X11. ICONIC. I literally woke up, logged on at around 11 AM my time, and my dashboard was on fire. It was the BEST. We didn’t know wtf to do, it was amazing.

Paleyfest. Ohhhh buddy, lemme tell ya. So TVD/TO got chosen to have the CW panel’s at Paleyfest that year. Everyone was on a bit of edge because TO to that point was what, almost done with S1 and Klaroline had been given the mega cold-shoulder despite being the very thing other than the Mikaelson’s that got used to lure people in? After the pregnancy plot from hell, everyone was ready to peace tf out, but we got halted because it was a ‘ohh of course it’s gonna continue’ then they tried to nip Klaroline in the bud with 5x11 and no one was having it. So Paleyfest was where we were gonna get some ANSWERS, DAMMIT. I live on the east coast and the festival was held in the west coast so I wasn’t awake when it was happening. I remember making a post about how ‘going to sleep, and hoping when I woke up the answers were good.’. So I went to sleep, woke up a few hours later like 2-3 AM my time, and checked my blog and the first message I had was ‘don’t wake up stephanie, everything is a mess, stay asleep where everything’s fine’ I—

The gist of that was, they basically set JoMo up to be the bad-cop in shutting down Klaroline. He gave this long answer that made absolutely zero sense. The girl who asked the question about Klaroline, who was like 13 at the time, got called a bully for even asking a question at an event she paid to be at. A mess. And JP was like NO CROSSOVERS, ORGANIC, BLAH BLAH. And Paul was sitting next to her going “why can’t the show’s just intersect”, he was right and he said it.

I can’t remember if this was S1 or S2, but somebody tweeted something and Carina replied ‘when you’re found dead in your basement with klaroline written on you this is why’ or something like that, that was a ~fun~ night. And then like half an hour later she was like “I’m sorry, I’ll never tweet about Klaroline again just leave me alone” if you’ve ever seen this fandom refer to ourselves as basement dwellers, this night is why.

NARDUCCI. Can’t forget him. Talk about a man who just didn’t get it. And I don’t mean Klaroline, he just didn’t get anything, nothing in his head has ever clicked, I’m convinced. He used to pick fights on twitter repeatedly. Admitted once that he missed his flight because he was on twitter…arguing with a fan. AND ONE DAY, he decided to just—snap. Went on this hours long tirade against the Klaroline fandom, essentially calling everyone stupid because no one was appreciating the ‘art’ of the show. So when I say it lasted hours, I mean that. Now, you’d think, that he would be done, right? WELL, apparently that wasn’t enough, so the next day, he continued. I remember because I was in this gc on whatsapp, and I remember Erika sending a message to the gc going “omg, Narducci vs KCers round 2″ when I tell you I screamed. The man went on a two-day rampage against this fandom and it was insane.

S6/S2 of TVD/TO was not a fun time. I can genuinely say it was borderline a chore to come on here during that time. It wasn’t fun, every day someone was in argument with someone from production on twitter. Truly the worst year of the fandom, imo. So S7/S3 rolls around and that’s where shit went nuclear.

Hillary and I, are minding our own damn business, when someone come’s to us with information regarding the new seasons. This was post-SDCC, so it’s like the lull of September, waiting for the seasons to start in October. And we get approached with information, talkin bout how Caroline’s gonna be pregnant with Alaric’s twins in S7. When I tell you we didn’t know wtf to do. And we had to like wait on confirmation about it but then we found out it was legit and we were pissed. Literally ask us if we wanted to be in the spoiler game, the answer is no tf we did not. And she and I basically spent two days complaining. LIKE UGHHHH WE DON’T WANNA DO THIS, BUT ALSO THIS IS DISGUSTING, WE CAN’T JUST LET THEM SPRING THIS ON EVERYONE, BUT AGHH WHY US. So we chose collectively, as a duo, because das my other half yo, to blab.

That went over as best as anyone could hope for it to go. Now, flashforward yet again, this time to around late Novemeber/December. I had been sent word that something was going down. TVD/TO lost their Thursday slots and got bumped to Friday’s, so a plan was going on, and they made one. We’d heard that they were rearranging something mid-season because they were gonna make a crossover work, publicly we found out it would be Paul and JoMo that crossover back-to-back. THEN ONE NIGHT—I call it black friday bc that day was a fucking mess—, a friend of mine was friends with an SCer, I wanna say, and she was hearing word that the crossover did have Klaus and Caroline interact via phone call, but that it was very definitively an ending. Because they spoke about Camille and Stefan, etc, etc. Like a closing of the book type thing. So okay, we were like devastated, everyone on twitter was losing their shit. Everyone was pissed, and @-ing the writers all these crazy, sad things, we were a wreck. Ask Hillary about this night because she, I remember, describes it as ‘logging on and reading what everyone else had and not understanding why tf everyone was mad about it’. It was the first and last time that our roles were reversed, and bless her for it.

SO WE’RE SITTING THERE, it’s Saturday, and we kept getting more information and we were like…something isn’t right here. So we did a bit of digging, spoke to a few people and waited it out. LO AND BEHOLD, everything we’d heard about the phone call was false. There was a phone call but the CKers and SCers were so mad about what was actually said in it, that a few of em, ring leaders of the feeble minded, made up a version and passed it around their fandoms as legit till it eventually worked it’s way over to us. So we all jumped the gun on fake information, lmfskdnknsks. Rumor has it, you can still hear Hillary yelling ‘I told you so’ at me through our group chat.

So all was well, I couldn’t tell everyone why not to panic, just that they didn’t need to. Until, this account popped up called tvdspoiler or something on twitter, also saying false information about the phone call. Sending everyone into a panic yet again. I remember this because I was at kmart with my mom, and the kmart by my house was in a basement so I had no cell service. I was able to send like a couple of messages, and was basically like ‘tell everyone to chill, I’ll clear it up when I get home’ did that in like a couple of hours cause then I had to leave to the midnight showing of the force awakens with my friends. So that day was chaotic, but fun. It was the first time I reached 99+ messages on my inbox, lmao.

So that all happened like a good while before we actually saw the episode. But cut to a few weeks later. I woke up at 1 AM my time to drink water, was on tumblr trying to go back to sleep. I checked my inbox and there was this bizarre message talking about ‘got some scoop’ and they were like ‘Finn dies in 3x17, Aurora gets put into some weird sleeping spell in 3x18, Camille and Davina die in 3x19, Lucien dies in 3x20′ and I quite literally laughed??? Literally who wouldn’t. Like who tf would ever believe TO had the balls to do all of that when they never killed anyone off. And we often got messages of people who were pissed about the two previous times we, from the klaroline fandom of all places, had legit info that wound up being true, that they were just waiting for us to fuck up. So we used to get messages of people pretending they were sharing info, and it was just antis trying to make us look stupid.

SO, Hillary says ‘just answer it because it’s obviously fake’ top ten moments before disaster. I answer it and am like oh haha, and where did that info come from. And they came back like a minute later, saying ‘I have a source’ THEN THEY ELABORATED. They mentioned that Lucien drags Freya and Vincent to Mystic Falls to do this spell with some bullet and etc. So at that point we were like fUCK because that same day we’d found out was in 3x16, which ended with Lucien and this white-oak bullet, having kidnapped Freya. And that’s when we knew, that someone showed up in the middle of the night, spoiled the whole back-half of TO S3—and then left.

The back-half of S3 was so fun??? Every week the info just kept coming true. On the wikia everyone hated me, probably the most anti messages I ever had was during that time, honestly it was great, 10/10 would recommend.

THEN, at some point in our blog history, Hillary had been getting quite a few messages about PT. And she had this fucking line in one of the messages about Phoebe’s pronunciation with her accent for the show, or lack thereof. And she said “weeches and woves will always have a place in my heart” SO THEM PHOEBE TWEETED IT. THAT EXACT LINE, and we were like was she...? So we shrugged off okay. A few days later, she tweeted “hellsbellschime enough, there’s plenty of other things to watch on tv, I hear mad men’s great.” And I—

THIS WAS ON SOME RANDOM ASS SUNDAY. Like I was lounging around, waiting for the new episode of game of thrones and then WHAM, chaos. AND AS IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH, Leah joined in too. Putting a target on my friends back...about her blog that no one was making them read. You can’t make that shit up. And Jenn actually replied to Phoebe’s tweet and got a reply back, and she was all “you’re right, I’m sorry” and then deleted the original tweet, which I still have a screenshot of btw. And then Leah showed up in Hillary’s inbox with this ridiculous three part ask about how she shouldn’t criticize women in the acting industry because of how hard it is for women in that industry which is true, but it doesn’t make you exempt from criticism??? So not sure where she meant to go with that one.

Thorfinn Rowle stopped dead in his tracks, one hand tangled in his long blond hair where he’d been scratching idly, his eyes widening at the sight of the small, curly haired witch standing at his locker inside the Quidditch dressing sheds. She was in the process of performing some charm or spell on the contents of his locker, he realised, his eyes narrowing hatefully.

Fucking Granger.

The bitch he’d been butting heads with since his third year when the buck-toothed little first year had tattled on him for making out with Cindy Sheppard in the library and got him a month’s detention. The vicious witch who’d been pranking him, and hexing him and cursing him at every opportunity and the girl he’d been paying back in full, with interest, every damn time.

“Are you serious?” he demanded, scowling at her when he realised she was casting an Itching charm on his towel, evidently knowing the rainy weather he’d been training in would leave him desperate for a hot shower - desperate enough not to check his gear for hexes.

“Actually, I consider myself quite the jovial sort of witch,” Hermione answered without turning to look at him, continuing her spell. He watched her transfirgure his bottle of shampoo into the shape of male genitalia, and hex the contents of his bottle of conditioner bright purple to ruin his perfect blond locks.

“I consider you the worst little shit I’ve ever met,” he informed her, cranky at the sight of her meddling.

Training had been horrendous tonight. He was team captain for Slytherin and the rag-tag collection of misfits he had making up the bloody team were only barely just a step above useless. This was his final year; he needed to do well to impress the scouts so he could make the NQL and it felt like everything was working against him, from this vicious little witch all the way down to the sodding weather.

“Someone’s cranky today,” Granger replied, and when she turned to him, closing his locker at last, she looked only too pleased by his foul mood. “What’s the matter, Rowle? Those dreams of making it to the NQL slipping through your fingers like your bat on a rainy day?”

Thorfinn narrowed his eyes.

“Did you hex my bat, too?” he asked, having dropped it half a hundred times today, no matter how tightly he gripped it.

“Would I do something like that?” she asked, and her innocent smile didn’t hide the evil gleam in her dark eyes.

Of course she’d fucking hexed his bat. Fuck! He was going to kill her. It was the only answer.

“You can’t fuck with my gear, Granger,” he complained. “Ground rules, right? No fucking with each other’s future.”

“Mmm, I remember,” she nodded, and Thorfinn narrowed his eyes, recalling that it’d been her, all the way back in her first year after three months of torturing each other with pranks and hexes and mean acts of petty violence and theft, who’d suggested that if they were going to keep doing this, they needed ground rules. Including not fucking with anything that could affect the other’s future after he’d stolen her bag and amended all of her homework to include picutres of dick’s scrawled on the margins and a replacement of the word ‘and’ with the word ‘todger’.

“You know Qudditch is my future,” he growled at her. “You know that future is connected directly to my fucking bat. And you hexed it?”

“You stole all of my books, and got me banned from the library for a full month,” Granger answered. “My future obviously lies in academics, and you fucked with it. I retaliated. Get over it.”

She turned and began to walk away, uncaring and insensitive to his foul mood, and Thorfinn saw red. He had his hands on her shoulders, spinning her and slamming her back against the line of lockers before he could think better of it. And he had her wand-tip gouging a hole in his neck just as quickly.

“I didn’t steal your books,” he growled in her face, not even noticing that he’d lifted her a few feet off the ground until she kicked him in the knee.

“Oh, rubbish,” she rolled her eyes. “Put me down before you get hurt, Superstar.”

She brought her knee up, trying to nail him in the nuts but Thorfinn blocked her, sliding his own knee between her thighs and right up against her twat, trapping her.

“I didn’t take your fucking books,” he growled.

“Then who did?”

“How the fuck would I know?” he spat, raking her a look of disgust. “Despite your daydreams, Princess, my life doesn’t revolve around tracking your every move.”

She snorted and rolled her eyes again, clearly not beleiving him and Thorfinn wondered how much trouble he’d be in if he dumped her arse in the middle of the Black Lake in the depths of winter. He could drop her from a great height into the frozen waters without a lot of remorse, he was thinking.

“And even if I had taken your books,” he went on, feeling his magic surging with his anger as the air in the locker room began to crackle with static electricity. “It wouldn’t count as fucking with your future because you’re only a sodding fifth year. Fucking with my bat is directly fucking with my future! This is my final year. If the scouts don’t recruit me at the end of the year, I’m fucked. You get that?”

One of the nearby wooden changing benches caught fire when she rolled her eyes a third time, making a dismissive noise of disgust.

“Temper, temper, Superstar,” she chided, and fuck her, but she was enjoying this, he could tell.

“Fuck!” he hissed, releasing one of her shoulders to aim his wand over his shoulder and douse the flames before they could get him for destruction of school property. Again. “That was your fault.”

“I’m not the one who sets things on fire with my mind because I can’t control my temper,” she argued. “Are you going to keep acting like a Neaderthal, or are you goinng to put me down?”

“You hexed my bat!”

“You got me banned from the library for a full month!” she hissed in return. “In O.W.L. year! With that fucking psychopath running things!”

“It’s barely Novemeber,” Thorfinn rolled his eyes this time. “You don’t need to start cramming for your exams until, like, Easter.”

“And you don’t need to be able to hang onto your bat in a rainy training session in November when NQL scouts won’t even see you. They only come to games, and usually not until third term,” Hermione argued.

“You’re impossible!” he growled at her.

“You started it!”

“Bollocks, I did! You tattled on me for snogging someone in the library and started this entire mess.”

“You were soiling my favourite book with your tart,” she argued.

“I don’t spend enough time hexing you,” he grumbled, shaking his head when she eyeballed him stubbornly, refusing to accept blame for her actions just as she’d been doing since this entire ordeal began.

“I don’t spend enough energy trying to trip you down the stairs so you’ll break your neck and be out of my life,” she answered contrarily and Thorfinn didn’t even think about it before suddenly his lips were on hers.

Shit. What the hell was he doing? She’d just threatened his life and he was kissing her. Maybe that last blow to the head with the Bludger when he’d dropped his bat had scrambled his brains.

But Granger was kissing him back. Her wand was lowering from where it’d dug a hole in his neck, and her free hand was sliding into his wet hair, and he still didn’t know what the hell he was doing, but damn if she didn’t kiss like the devil. His hands on her shoulders slid up to tangle in her wild hair and Thorfinn threw caution to the wind, snogging her with every skerrick of fury inside him and pouring five years of pranks and annoyances and general tension into that one kiss. He poured everything he had into that kiss, his tongue making love to hers and his body grinding into hers hungrily while she squirmed atop his thigh like she couldn’t get enough, either.

When they pulled apart, panting, she blinked her eyes open slowly as he met her gaze before raising one eyebrow at him.

“Are you serious?” she asked, and she sounded scornful, rather than intoxicated on his prowess.

Shit.

“Yep,” he answered, lowering his leg from between her thighs and letting her down before removing his hands from her person entirely and stepping back. “That happened.”

“Right,” she muttered, her face furrowing into a frown while he stared at her, a little shell-shocked; a little horrified. Kind of turned on.

“Fuck,” he said, before turning and striding away from her and leaving her to make a run for it from the dressing shed.

He was so distracted that it took him several minutes to undo the charm on his shampoo bottle once he got in the shower. So distracted he forgot about the purple conditioner. And when he dried off afterward and immediately began to itch like mad, Thorfinn realised he was so distracted, he’d forgotten about the fucking Itching Hex. Shit.

Welcome to DC, Agent

Since Friday, I’ve been going pretty damn hardcore spending my time in Division 2. Been playing it with my boything, obviously, but also roped in 2 friends from Guild Wars 2, and one of their friends. Boy and I are a little further ahead than our friends, but we kind of split our evening doing stuff with them, and then progressing our own stuff.

The game allows low level friends to join you, they get upscaled to just below your level and are geared appropriately while they’re with you. (Although there’s a bug where the armor’s not working.... uh... great.... right now. lol. It is a known issue and will be fixed) Anyway. I’m so, so happy that we have a 4-man group for this game, and a spare person too! We’ve formed a clan/guild called “Mall Rats” because DC puns are hilarious.

The Division 2 is a shooty game. It gets the genre of “looter shooter”. You kill things, you get loot, you go kill more things to get more loot. There’s an over-arching story (more on that...) Its genre also gets labeled as “Cover-based tactical shooter”. Meaning you get in cover, you kill things. You can’t just stay in cover though, bad guys will notice you holed up and come and say hello with a scary gun, or a screaming melee person which will scare the bjibbers out of you if you don’t expect it.

But anyway. Welcome to DC.

You’re an agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, aka SHD (pronounced “Shade”). Back in Novemeber, a scientist released a virus known as The Dollar Flu, as it was put on dollar bills around the country. The virus spread over Black Friday and shut down cities all across America. In the first game, you’re a 2nd wave agent who has to figure out what happened to the first wave of agents, while at the same time dealing with the dollar flu and getting New York up and running again with the help of the Joint Task Force (JTF).

In Division 2, you’re a different agent who has been out there for some time, and has been summoned to DC to help things from completely falling apart. The President is dead, the government is barely non-existing, and various factions have sprouted up over the city and causing chaos. Civilians have risen up to form small communities of peace and order and are trying to adapt to the new normal. Division 2 takes place around 6-7 months after the first game, so it’s warm and sunny and not like the bitter cold of New York in winter.

There’s still plenty of reminders that everything went to shit around Christmas time. There’s still trees, and lights, and other things dotted around the place that shows people have been living like this for the better part of 2/3 of a year. (also my fancy hat + shades are amazing,I’ll have you know).

Anyway!

This is what I mean by “cover based tactical shooter”. I’m holed up behind a conveniently placed obsticle while a screaming crazy lady runs out me with a big stick. I’ve thrown down a cluster roller ball that seeks out targets and blows up (the red circles) in a few moments it will detonate and everyone goes boom! If that crazy lady got too close to me, she’d basically knock the ammo out of my gun and I’d be going “Ahhhhhh”.

The game has night time. It also has rain. When it’s dark, or dark and stormy, your visibility is pretty poor, but the AI’s is too. You can walk right past them, and they you, and because of the weather they don’t hear or see you. And it’s pretty great. There’s ways of marking the bad guys, but for the most part you’re watching for shadows moving, people chattering, the sounds around you. (Highly recommend playing this with headphones, because it’s so awesomely atmospheric)

There’s plenty of underground areas, tunnels, subway systems that are beautifully atmospheric as well. The lighting is great, the audio is brilliant and of course, there’s plenty of loot to be had.

But yeah. I love this game. There’s so much to do. There’s barbie fashion wars as well! You have your tactical gear (vest, gloves, boots, kneepads, etc) but there’s cosmetics in the form of shirts, boots, pants, hats, glasses, scarves. The combat gear can be dyed from dye you find in game, and the cosmetics come in a variety of colours, you’ve just gotta go out and find it. (There’s also a cash shop where you can just buy this stuff directly if you really want, but so much of it is in game). There’s a photo mode where you can take pictures and edit them to give them effects or do emotes while taking said pictures. This is the kind of stuff that gels with me in a game. The world is so alive, and the AI is smart.

This game makes me ridiciously happy, and I hope it entertains me for quite some time. If you’re interested, please let me babble more at you. <3

I swear I’m so busy here that I’m barely even checking my social media. I’m loving it. I did in fact meet up with my friends in town last night. I introduced them to cinema cafe and we watched Avengers. Then we ended up just standing around talking for like 2 hours...until kelly sent me a text around 1am asking if I was ok. Oops. She knows I don’t see well at night and that the movie should have been over by about 11:30. I swear this lady never leaves mom mode and it cracks me up.

We went to church today and I honestly love the church. They preach about love and how some christians try to dictate others based off of 1 small “rule”. He literally said “ refusing to bake a cake because you don’t agree with their life choices is not showing love”. It’s very open minded and accepting. The girls’ aunt and cousins came over after. the kids played, eric worked on the car, and the moms’ and I played cards and hung out. I may also really love that when Eric introduced me to a member of the church he said something like “This is Caitlin. She was our nanny and now she’s family. We’ve adopted her” I don’t think I’ll ever find another family to work for quite as amazing as them. They all hold a special place in my heart.

Tomorrow Kelly and I are taking the girls to the mall and I’m taking them to build a bear!!! She’ll probably kill me when/if she finds out how much I’ll end up spending lol. But I don’t care. I have taken bre so many times and no one seems to care that because they’re moving her so much that things are happening and they’re getting lost. I was willing to accept that her panda may have had an accident. But the cat I just got her for her birthday in Novemeber is already gone too and that’s just BS. If I’m going to shell out 60 bucks for a stuffed animal I’d rather get each of the girls one because their parents make them take care of their stuff.

And now I’m rambling. This is what going to bed around 2am and waking up at 6:45 will do to me lol

First week

MONDAY 26 NOV Jan comes over again and we finalize details of what we want to do with the room. We get bikes and head to the hardware store about 20 minutes away which is next to Berghain. Jan tells me once he came here on a Friday night and the queue was by Hardware store. I couldn’t even see the kilometersish long road that it originated from nearby, let alone Berghain at the far end of it. fuck me.

We have a really nice time walking around the hardware store. I spend 116 EUR on varnish and loads of bits of metal which are going to hold the whole thing in place when it finally goes up. There are lots of hot German guys in the shop. I giggle with Jan about the staff “man: hello there, i’m looking for some chain, LED strip lighting, and steel scaffold for a frame can you help m- ____ Staff: ffs yes, we do. the gay men building slings and dungeons area is over by aisle 12, all you need is there i promise, now go away.”

He buys me a coffee and we part ways about a third of the way home on bikes. after getting home I pop into Blackstyle *finally* which is about 4 minutes walk from my house. My man Bjorn is there and there is no one in the store. I think my story must be a little bit of a thing at that place because he fully knew I was coming!! He told me he had seen my 13 minute long video on facebook explaining my whole story of what I had been up to over the last year! I was amazed cosnidering the guy isnt even on facebook and i dont have his number either. He even knew that I was living on Wicherstrasse which is actually closer than any other member of blackstyle staff!! We were pissing ourselves giggling at how exciting that is- i guess martin had told him (my primary contact there). He advised me on working there- now Blackstyle do not actually hire non german speaking members of staff, but he said basically can you make a portfolio of everything you have made and some drawings of ideas you have had, and send that and your photography stuff to thomas and he’ll help you out with some kind of an interview. Exactly what position you’ll get i’m not sure, but we might be able to find something for you to fit in to.

Other Convos: He knows my friend Liam, and I told him about how under store conditions and regulation there was that sexy time where he couldnt get into jeans and they were super tight and i tried to hep and I just ended up sucking his dick! haha

Pretty much I spent the rest of the evening hanging out with Alis. I really like her. I can tell we’re starting to form a close friendship. spoke to Karyn a little over WhatsApp and showed her pictures of the weekend, she super loved them and we’re all so excited to have her back from her nuts south America traveling trip. I fear writing diary entries about her cos this is all far too qualitative as it is before adding me feeling and thoughts over Karyn and the conversations and adventures we are bound to have.

TUESDAY 27 NOVEMBER

(TODAY) CAN I Have a medal for writing all of that, please??!?!

So this morning I get up and tidy up my room. And at about midday SIMULTANEOUSLY Jan w/ Timmon arrives with all the Timber AND my removals van full of my shit from the UK arrives. The entrance of my building is FULL of wood and boxes ALL for MY room. and omg those stairs are a cunt on the best of days. First, it was just me and Jan, while Timon parked the car, and then it was all three of us working on getting my shit up like 8 flights of big stairs. there are two flights that separate each floor and some of the wood and boxes were seriously fucking heavy. Over the course of the day, I think I climbed the stairs about 11 or 12 times (there were shopping trips included in there too) and my legs are still killing from it, I'm so glad I have cycled so much over the last year or i may have died.

There were three parts of the day, part 1 was getting all the shit in and starting construction.

PART 2 was the BURGERAMPT!! We cycled about ten minutes down the road to the Town Hall of Prenzlauer berg. We went into this old building covered in scaffolding to the burgerampt where we sat for about 15 minutes before being seen. I swear all the old buildings in Germany are massive, the cielings are all about 18 feet high. The meeting was with really sweet blonde woman, who as per my expectation, did not speak very good English, so I was immediately glad that I brought Jan with me to translate. Everything went smoothly, the contact Karyn emailed me was all they needed and my passports. Jan translated everything, at one point the woman asked if I had a religion and I was like no.... aber Berghain ist mein Kirche! and she giggled. She also did a really nice bit at the end which I didn’t understand a word of, but basically, she gave me ein Herzlich Willkommen zu Deutschland.

Part 3- basically we went back and continued to construct the fuck out of room. it’s looking immense now, I am so excited. It’s costing about double what I had planned to invest though and it’s not even near finished yet. there’s still the big desk and the photo studio part to do. The shelves and the first part of the frame for the folding bed are in though. Alis calmed me telling me I have enough to survive for like 5 months until I found a stable job. I was grateful to her for calming me down there.

Just before Jan left around 5 or 6 we had a little bit of well-deserved play time. ;) We had a kiss and a cuddle and then our shirts were off and he was on top of me with my arms stuck behind my back with his cock in my mouth. GRRRRRR. It finished with it being the other way around, I was on top of his chest, jerking off while he sucked my balls, and before I knew it I felt the warm spray of his jizz all up the welcome patch just above my ass crack. I’m so glad i did lessons and studied all year. I don't have a lot but I have something, and it is FAR better than nothing.

WEDNESDAY 28 NOVEMBER

Jan came around today and basically, we proceeded to almost complete building the whole of the bedframe and shelves in my room. I haven't been sleeping properly since moving so was a bit of a zombie.

despite feeling dead, in the evening Jan persuaded me to head to Schoneberg for my first time since moving to Berlin. I was invited round to dinner with his bf beary Timmon, this sweet Canadian cub guy called Arjhan and this huge daddy called Malcolm and his partner ...who i cant remember the name of :p timmon made a three-course meal of thai flavorings. Notable conversations included a gay bar called Schwartz, what Berlin was like after the wall came down (apparently there were food shortages for ages), and Brexit shit. We went out to Prinzknecht after dinner where it’s happy hour on Wednesday. I had a bit of a moment outside the bar before going in, after all, Prinzknecht is pretty much where this all began 4 years ago. When I came in 2014 for Folsom and the place was PACKED OUT far into the street even, with LeatherMen from all over I was gobsmacked. I thought I was in wonderland. It’s amazing this city is finally my home.

While I was there I made friends with a ginger Irish bloke called Keith who I talked to about various animes for ages. My tummy was feeling rough and I couldn't drink very much, it was icky, I was burping and farting loads. ufff. Anyway, we finished off the night at Woof! for one more drink before heading home. I’d been giving Daddy Malcome eyes all night and finally, he put his hands down my pants to my ass and revealed he wanted to fuck me. Ufff sadly that wasn’t the night for it though. I went home on the U2 subway. I’m glad I have a direct line straight from my house to Schoneberg!

THURSDAY 29 NOVEMBER

In the morning me and Jan headed out to the local flohmarkt to find a beam for my bed (cos i accidentally put my foot through one the day before, eek!) and also a ladder to access the highest shelves of the thing. The flohmarkt was gigantic, I can't remember seeing anything like it in the UK and apparently, this wasn’t even a big one. They sold everything you could need for a house, from doors and beams and pots to fine furniture, and more glassware than I’ve ever seen in my life. There were rows and rows and high shelves of it outside all gathering dust. Jan and I both agreed it was a dangerous place cos you could very easily spend a lot of money on some nice things in there. We found a ladder and a beam and went home and finished the work. With the shelves, complete Jan went home and I had a nap.

FRIDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2018

Flo Left at about 1 and I got up about 3.30pm. I can't remember what happened this day so im guessing not much. I definitely needed to recover. My night before was so insane I think i was just telling everyone about that all day. II told Karyna nd Chaim about it and they were pleased. I stayed up late sanding my room and went to bed about 1AM

SATURDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2018

Cleaned the flat with Alis in the morning for the first time. Got to Jan’s about midday to collect a coffee table from him and forgot all about looking for fabric at the Turkish market to cover all my storage with. Me Arjhan and Jan borrowed bikes and checked out the Market. It was great, all pretty self-explanatory, I got black, white and green curtain fabric for like 30EUR. Also bought a new frying pan, some olives and some lemons. When cycling home we rode past the dungeon that me and Michael had spent time in on the most amazng weekend of my life here in 2017, and then straight past Vikotria Luis Platz, which is also another sacred location for me. I had tears in my eyes for sure. my backpack opened the fuck up whle cycling in that moment and i had to move on from that moment. When we got back I enjoyed some tea at Jan’s. He’s leaving on Monday to head back to Amsterdam for the next few weeks. he’ll be back again in late December. I’ll have to varnish the room while he’s away.

Had a stressful time getting the table back on the Ubahn.

Went out with Alis and Aldina this evening. We drove to a shisha bar out east and had a drink and a puff there before heading to Suss War Gestern nearby afterwards. Sweet was yesterday is a three floor club bar, filled with cigarette smoke. It had a techno dancefloor with cool led ceiling light display, a chill top floor and a cheese fun floor in the basement which is where we all spent the whole night dancing on a bench on the side of the wall. I actually didn't have an amazing time for most of the night. There was this nineties raver DJ set that made me lose the will to live. SUNDAY 2 NOVEMBER

The main event of today was the Leather Social in Schonberg. I’ve been to this once before when I was here in may visiting for Michael. It’s a 6 floor flat and this time it was filled with about 20-30 sexy leathermen. Mickael had invited me and I had a really nice time. Mario who I had met at Qaulgeist in April was there and I had a sexy kiss with him and we agreed I need to see the inside of his playroom sometime soon. Oink! The man looks like a dirty sexy older piggy, you know he can do some remarkable things with his hands. the other cutie I got the recon of was a hot beary german skinhead called Stefan, and he’s into bondage and similar activities to me. I met a fashion photographer there called Alex [from birgmingham] and he was telling me about working for Zolando. He gave me his instagram and basically said to message him with any questions. There was this drunk idiot called Simon who wanted to be all dom toppy to me but ended up knocking over my fucking beer (i put the next one on his tab (asshole)) and also he half kicked over a coffee table while throwing me around. Uff I'm getting bored of drunk “dom tops” they just make a fucking mess. Connected with my lovely mate David who was one of the leather friends I was really looking forward to reconnecting with when i got to Berlin. I also Spoke to the host of the party about photography and before i knew it I had a decent iPhone and was coralling people into groups to take photos for the social media.

We all took a short walk to new action later and drunk some more. Prakash, the host said it was funny that i appeared to do photos because in the group meeting they had they were just deciding they needed a photographer to help advance the social. We spoke of magic, and i told the story of how my ex-overdosed at my leaving party and the real magic was that no one else was there to be traumatised or take his bullet. Towards the end of the night, I grabbed the bartender’s attention and said something like “I have just moved to Berlin, and I guess I have always wondered what it would be like to work in one of the leather bars here. soo are you looking for staff?” and he said basically yes, they are always looking for new people and you don't have to speak amazing german.
