Japanese note: "Ryōshin" as a term is used elsewhere in the main Adventure series too. An example is in Episode 33's Japanese version, the episode with Pump{kin}mon and Got{t}sumon. In the beginning of that episode, Tsunomon verbally uses "Ryōshin" when informing Patamon about the current relationship state of Yamato and Takeru's parents {divorced}, (indirectly implying 'both' involved). Thus, it is not unusual the term 'Ryōshin' would apply in standard Japanese usage when being used for Koushiro's biological relatives.

Taikouvember 2024 - Rules & FAQ

Even though most of the general rules for the week were already written down in the Event Announcement Post, we would still like to specify some of our Do’s and Don’t’s to make sure Taikouvember will turn out amazingly for everyone involved!

Do's & Recommendations

The event goes from November 4th to November 10th. There are prompts for every single day - this time, they refer to the Crests of the other Chosen Children.

Interpret the prompts as you like, you can find some helpful tips in our Prompt Guideline. You may submit as many entries for each prompt as you like.

If this year's prompts are not to your liking, feel free to use the prompts used for the 2022 and 2023 events as well.

Every kind of entry will be allowed: Fanfiction, Drabbles, Poems, Fanart, Comics, Sketches, Doodles, Music, Playlists, Music Videos, Picture Sets, Edits, Gifsets, Meta, etc.

You can of course decide which series or medium you want to focus on: Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure 02, all corresponding movies, Digimon Adventure Tri, Digimon Adventure Last Evolution: Kizuna, Digimon Adventure 02 The Beginning, Digimon Adventure: The 2020 Reboot, games, manhuas, audio dramas, novels, the stageplay, etc.

You are free to choose how to interpret the relationship of Taikou - whether that's romantic or platonic is completely up to you!

Other canon characters are allowed to be included, as long as the entries contain the original ship Taikou, the original characters, Taichi Yagami and Koushiro Izumi, and/or in extension, their partners, Agumon and Tentomon. You can also include multi-/polyships, OT3s, OT4s, etc. as long as they contain Taikou.

Crossovers, Alternate Universes (AUs) or Own Characters (OCs) are allowed, as long as the entries contain the original ship.

He heard the honeyed voices of his boss and her partner that he didn't know he had. He had started working at the Tachikawa company two months ago, especially for the granddaughter of said company. At that time he thought she was single and when she asked him to go out to the park he innocently believed that it was going to be some kind of date between the two. because he had fallen in love with her, she was very attentive and fun although she always played with him to make him nervous, he even thought she was flirting with him but the reality was different or he just had silly illusions because of the affection his boss showed him.

When they arrived at the park and the weather was all gray, it seemed like something romantic, like in the novels where they declare their love and kiss in the rain, but when she saw a blonde approaching, she thought it was someone who wanted to assault them because of the outfit they were wearing. He had, to the redhead's surprise, his boss ran after him to give him a kiss, which he reciprocated.

After their eternal kiss and witnessing the entire scene the couple decided to sit on a bench, they decided to first talk about how much they missed each other; and the? Well, listening to the conversation where he found out that they had met again a long time ago because he couldn't handle the astrophysics postgraduate degree that he was about to finish - appearances can be deceiving - the redhead thinks and that's where it starts to rain, instinctively he takes out the umbrella to protect his boss and the blonde took off his jacket to protect her from the cold that was beginning, the only thing Koushiro could do was wait for the rain to calm down or for the couple sitting there to decide to end their meeting.

Fandom Shipping Polls - Yamato Ishida Shipping Analysis (Poll I + Poll II)

As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Yamato, shall we!

The overall results / spreadsheet

Disclaimer: As the “Someone from 01/02″ and “Others” options from poll 1 and the “Someone from 01/02″ option from poll 2 have been excluded from the final analysis due to redundancy reasons and all results were culminated in another “final count”, the results will not be 1:1 to what the polls look like:

Overall votes: 116 (approx. 91 in sum after the exclusion), the main poll got 84 votes, the secondary poll got 32 votes.

The “Others” choice in the main poll received 6% (approx. 5 votes) and 0% (0 votes) in the secondary poll. The comments/tags did not specify any preferences here (aside from characters that were already part of the main choices).

Ship Analysis

1st place: Taichi (37%) led the poll from the beginning and was, at no point in time, threatened to be surpassed by any other choice. As mentioned in Taichi’s analysis already, Taiyama/Taito has always been going strong and is a very popular choice for both parties. The ship is, not only in fandom but also in canon, a relationship that is highly focused on in terms of how they clash, but also complement, support and make each other better - which is also why there are tons of official promotional art that could have been used for the graphic! Taichi is Yamato’s (development) foil for a reason and the way their dynamics are being presented make them an appealing choice for one another.

2nd place: Similarly to Taichi, Sora (28%) has sat comfortably in second place throughout the entire voting period. Which shouldn’t be surprising either, as Sorato is one of the very few confirmed canon couples in the series to end up with each other - even if their screentime is severely surpassed by Taiyama, which may explain the discrepancy in the votes.

3rd place: Likewise, the third winner never really had to fear being overthrown; Jou’s votes (17%) picked up only slowly throughout the voting period, but seeing how Joumato has gained more attention on Twitter lately, it is no surprise to see him here - as several media forms have focused on their relationship (for example the novels, the stageplay - and of course the episode that actually activated the Crest of Friendship)

Honorary mentions: Since Yamato’s polls have not received as many votes as Taichi’s (and the results are also being very clear in terms of who gets favoured), there aren’t many other choices to really point out. No other option surpassed the 10% mark after all, but Daisuke (7%) and Jun (5%) may be singled out at this point; the Motomiya siblings have actually ruled over the secondary poll (aside from the “Someone from poll 1″ choice) after all! With only 4%, Mimi also joins the squad, even if Mimato appears to be a much more popular ship in other internet spheres (such as Instagram or Facebook).

“The 1 vote squad”: This space is reserved for Ken (1%) - and Meiko (2%), who got 2 votes.

“0 votes go to...”: This group will be interesting to look at if we take a glance at the reversed results, but let’s just list them for now: Koushiro, Hikari, Miyako, Iori and Menoa.

Annotations: Takeru was automatically excluded as a choice up front. Yamakeru does not seem to be a wide-spread choice in English speaking fandoms, even if a look at Japanese centric spaces may suggest that it’s fairly popular there.

What did the other polls say?

Yamato is one of the characters who hasn’t won any other poll - but did come in second for Taichi (21%), Sora (31%) and Jou (17%), thus mirroring his own results at least to a certain degree. This underlines once more how clear the preferences appear to be in his case. 

He also came in as third choice for Meiko (13%).

He was generally a niche choice for several characters, such as Mimi (6%), Ken (2%), Daisuke (1%) - and Hikari (4%), who shall be pointed out in particular here, as she received 0 votes in Yamato’s own poll, but actually had 4 people vote for him in her poll.

He received 0 votes in the polls for Miyako, Iori - and Koushiro, making this the first poll where neither party received a vote, thus having nobody pick Yamashiro as viable option.

Notable additions / comments / thoughts

As mentioned above, his polls did not receive as much attention as Taichi’s, thus, I really hope to reach a wider audience if I choose to repeat the polls once the fandom is not as quiet as it is right now. 

The three winning pairs have never really been threatened, thus showing that the parts of the fandom that participated in the voting can agree on who they see as viable options for Yamato - and if we look at canon evidence, Taichi, Sora and Jou are likely to provide the most consistent results.

There were some niche choices that are very interesting to look at - the Motomiya siblings really seem to have left an impact in 02. Meiko and Ken did not receive a lot of votes, but people might still think fondly of them because of their anime interactions. Last but not least, Mimi and Hikari did gather some attention for their respective fandom corners. Aside from that, Yamato’s more aloof attitude in the series (and focus on the characters mentioned above) may have make it harder to see his as viable option for other characters.

The comments in the tags have only referred to Taichi overall, so the “Others” option did not reveal any other potentially preferred suitors. This leaves room for speculation, but usually, the option is reserved for OC ships or for when people prefer to not ship a character at all (which will definitely be a future option to include as well!)

Okay, I’d like to get this out of way: I don’t *hate* Yamato, in fact I can really enjoy him in some instances, but I do hate his portrayal in most media and how arbitrarily important he is. In fact I agree that Yamato wasn’t focused on properly over the series. I don’t mean any disrespect towards you as a person, but these ideas (mostly the unneeded bashing of Taichi and Koushirou) are not something I can stand.

“First of all, since when was Taichi ever closer to Koushiro?”

Literally the first episode? They’re canonically best friends with Sora since before the series starts. A trend that continues very deeply throughout the entirety of 01 and especially OWG. If you need proof of that, I can direct to MANY instances proving such, such as: Taichi inviting Koushirou to summer camp in the novels, Kou calls for Taichi when he's in the Human World, Taichi entrusting Kou to solve the puzzle, etc. It isn’t until 02 that we see Taichi and Yamato having ANY form of positive relationship, and Koushirou is included and typically the one palling the most with Taichi. Taichi and Yamato are 100% Yang and Yin in 01, it even goes so far as to have Taichi as the Sun (Yang) while Yamato has a werewolf, and in the epilogue (which was made before the rest of the series was written) has him go to the Moon (Yin). This is also why they’re so completely incompatible throughout the entirety of 01. They are not close in the slightest. Most of their interactions they’re literally fighting. The Darkness (Yin) within Yamato makes it impossible for him to be close to ANYONE that isn’t Takeru, his brother, or Joe, who is his canonical best friend in 01 and the reason his Crest activates.

“Digimon aint about Taichi and whoever certain fans think he should spend more time with”

While I would LOVE for other characters to be focused on, like Sora or Joe, Taichi is the main character. He is the constant, and any character he spends more time with will be focused on more heavily, so for those who prefer other characters they want to see him interact more with the others so they’ll be spotlighted. Which is also why we’ve seen such a bulk of Taito within the series, because marketing demands it. And, let’s be real here, Yamato alone isn't selling the series, and hasn’t challenged Taichi in ANY capacity for a while. At best we have Tri, but Tri is a train wreck and I don’t really care about it. In 02 he doesn’t really fight against Taichi at all, only punching him to help Taichi re-orient himself, and the same goes even harder for Kizuna. Yamato, narratively, doesn’t have a purpose anymore in that regard.

Again, to reiterate, Taichi and Koushirou’s friendship is NOT “opinion”, it is objective fact that they’re close. Almost every episode of 01 reinforces this fact. One of the closest non-sibling bonds in the entire series, frankly. It is also fact that Taichi and Yamato are NOT close within 01, and we’re only shown them being close *alongside Koushirou* in 02 and Kizuna (kinda). And the only reason Taichi and Yamato are so close is because they achieved Mega, which they only did because they had siblings, and this arbitrary connection was further reinforced in OWG (with the help of Koushirou).

And I’ll say this again: I do NOT hate Yamato. If you take this as hate then you have problems. I do, however, hate his portrayal to various levels in basically everything post-OWG, and in fact I can agree he needed more screen time in certain ways. For one, I hate the fact that he’s some dumb rock star in 02 when blues is more his style. I crave the blues Yamato we never got, jamming out alone with a sad song to let his feelings out, with his friends being his biggest (and almost only) fans (and Jun still, because that's funny). I also hate how little support there is for most of his connections (Joe being his best friend is canon and we BARELY see that, and Sorato is a fucking joke that not even Kakudou remembered to support). Him, Taichi, and Koushirou are like, the most supported what with 02’s camping episode and Kizuna, but that’s mostly Yamato third-wheeling on Taishirou.

So again, I can agree he needed more time, especially exploring his relationship with Joe, but minimizing Taichi’s connection with Koushirou (and, to a lesser extent, Taichi's importance in the series) just to raise Yamato up is just wrong on so many levels. If you can’t really talk about how great a character is without actively minimizing other characters, then that signals some problems to me.

It really bothers me that from a plot standpoint tai and matt’s relationship was always the the most important even though tai always seemed to be better friends with Izzy and/or sora and while tai’s relationships with sora and izzy are explored in many episodes throughout the series, those relationships were never treated as important come the finale episode of the arc. Just look at Tri; they had an entire movie focused on tai and matt’s parallels and relationship.

By the eighteenth day, Koushiro dropped {Koushiro}'s “e”s. Tentomon no longer had a name.

Although {Tentomon} welcomed whatever made Koushiro happy, Tentomon felt somewhat uneasy about the entire thing. There was no mistake that Koushiro's face grew more serene with each passing day. But {Koushiro's} eyes… {Koushiro's} eyes looked so blank. Nowhere in them could {Tentomon} find that bright sparkle they once had, like at Andromon's factory, when Koushiro was typing into his laptop with engrossed excitement, or within the empty well in the desert. Before it had met Koushiro, Tentomon had always thought that "thinking" was a pain. But meeting Koushiro made {Tentomon} come to feel that thinking wasn't so bad after all.

Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna

I've been reading the novelisation of Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, which is last (?) in a long line of sequels to Digimon Adventure. The translation is done by Onkeikun of digitalscratch.pmsinfirm.org, and I assume it's based on the "Dash X" version of the novel, which according to the good people on the withthewill.net boards has "more action, emotion, and some additional scenes".

About two thirds in, so far I will only comment on the first chapter in this post:

The Unknown Digimon

It's been ten years since Adventure and five since Tri. The book sets us up with a few brief descriptions of the characters - how old they are now, and what they're doing. To my disappointment everyone seems to be right on track in their lives, mostly going to university or working. Nobody's life is in disarray, nobody is struggling with addiction or drugs, being confused by the world slowly coming online and entirely changing the social landscape for young people - It's just not very relatable ahahah. It's safe and consistent with everything we've seen so far.

Unfortunately that's pretty much the most interesting part. Some average anime filler action happens: inconsequential techno-babble, Parrotmon appears yet again in Tokyo, and gets returned to the digital world after a brief fight with some of the cast. Right after, Agumon and Gabumon get left behind by Taichi and Yamato as they are both busy with schoolwork. This is where I assume the drama will come from, as Adventure and its sequels have always been about childhood, growth, and moving on. We've been getting tear-jerked with “final” goodbyes and messages of “wherever we are, we will always be friends and I cherish the time we spent together”, so again it's nothing new.

Towards the end of the chapter some random chick falls unconcious. Might this be the traditional mystery sub-plot kicking off that's going to get unravelled with no payoff or much interesting intervention by the characters? Yes, yes it is. Two new characters, Whatsherface and Whatshisname, inform the crew about chosen children all around the world falling into comas – but they can be saved if they just band together and defeat BadDigimon231 (or whatever). Some of the OG children and their partners get ready to take care of it. End of chapter one.

So far I'm really enjoying it lmao

Hello everyone!

First of all, thank you to all 48 participants of the interest poll, it was very interesting to see how another ship week would be perceived! Considering that at least 12 voters confirmed to be happy to dive into participating, I think there isn’t a more suitable date than June 1st, the beginning of Pridemonth, to officially announce this year’s Taikouvember event! (Title picture + new icon provided by @seventeenlovesthree)

November is the last month of autumn, right before Christmas time begins. It’s a time that can be filled with light and coziness but also lurking shadows and gloominess. So, November 6th to November 12th shall be dedicated to the platonic or romantic relationship between Taichi Yagami and Koushiro Izumi (Taikou, Koutai or mainly known as Taishiro(u) in the English speaking fandom). Since "Digimon Adventure 02 - The Beginning" will air on October 27th 2023 as well, some of the prompts are inspired by the potential theme of the movie:

Oh hey, hello! I saw you were struggling with that part from the movie, so allow me clarify it for you!

1- there's no novelization for either 02 and 02TB. The Adv'99 novels do not depict the epilogue, and Kizuna's novels are just the same thing as the movie with extra details and the inclusion of a few scenes (in the Dash X novel case, two of the Memorial Stories released via crowdfunding and the first of them was released on YT for free and with official subs to promote the movie)

2- Yes, this is correct. No digivice is shown or featured in the epilogue scenes in 02. And looking this way, it makes sense for a world where humans and digimon can live together to not have digivices to form bonds. The digivices are just like the Tags and Crests in Adv'99 -- just an item to help you evolve and train your digimon properly. 

And we saw in Kizuna that Koushiro had made an app for phones which can link to their digivices; plus any phone can open gates now -- Menoa opens the Digital Gate from her own phone, not from a device similar to the Tokyo twelve (Taichi + Daisuke groups) -- and this is also stated by Yamato at the beginning of the movie, when he and Taichi are at the barbecue restaurant Buchi Horumon Yakiniku talking about their own problems.

I read the interview translation in which the director said that he intended to go in line with 02 epilogue hence their digivice's disappearance. Me who has a bad memory and not read the novelization: wait what!?

There are too many parts of Yamato and Sora in the official novel. I never knew where to start, so after thinking about it for a long time, I decided to continue to publish it according to the plot. In Tokyo, the parts of Yamato and Sora have increased. This part is the same as that in TV version. There are some differences, so I will post them for comparison.

There are still some small easter eggs in the adventure in the early novels. After I update all the main plots, I will talk about the small easter eggs that only belong to Sorato.

In TV version, Sora was arrested because he participated in extracurricular football activities, and then escaped from the place with the help of his mother and Mimi, and then met Taichi and said where Yamato and Hikari were,and then Sora Just meet Yamato.

“Sora, I need to talk to you.” She wasn’t expecting her mother to be home already. “Please don’t think that I’m saying something stupid, but… Could you tell me where you were this afternoon?” She saw Birdramon. Her mother’s tone of voice wasn’t accusatory. She spoke hesitantly, as though she was unsure and confused. That only made it harder for her to find a more ideal moment to talk to her mother about Piyomon. If I knew this was going to happen, then maybe I should have brought her in with me instead of telling her to come through the window. What would be the best way for her to tell her Mom what was going on without giving her too much of a shock? Sora thought about it, but immediately got overwhelmed. She got the sense that it would be best if she told her mother everything from the top, and then had Piyomon come in at the end to meet her. “Mom… It’s kind of a long story, but will you hear me out?” Piyomon was left spending more time waiting outside the window.

The Bakemon atta cked them just when Sora had more or less described how they had gone to the Digital World, their adventures, and then had invited Piyomon to come into her room through the window. “Is this… Piyo-san?” “Pleased to meet you. I’m Piyomon.” Sora’s mother Yoshiko timidly stretched out her hand just as the door flew open behind her and Bakemon swarmed in. At first, Piyomon’s “Magical Fire” drove them back. But gradually, the number of Bakemon surging in was too great. Piyomon flew out of the window and evolved. “Piyomon, evolve! Birdramon!” The Bakemon closed in around them even as she evolved. Yoshiko pushed Sora towards the windows, then turned to face the Bakemon herself, pushing for time. “Run, Sora!” Sora clung to Birdramon’s legs, and when she turned around to look, Yoshiko was already surrounded by the Bakemon. There was no way to retrieve her from outside the window. “Mom! I’ll come back to save you, I promise!” As Yoshiko was dragged away, Sora thought that she saw her mother smile.

Hikari hid herself in its dark belly. Yamato, Gabumon, Yamato’s father Hiroaki, Sora, Piyomon, and Koushiro were also with her.

Koushiro eluded the Bakemon wandering aimlessly around the area, and followed the reactions on his digivice to reach the construction site. In turn, Taichi left Big Sight. Tentomon went alone to check their surroundings. Piyomon and Gabumon needed to rest and recover the energy that was spent on their evolutions, so he was the only one capable of moving at the moment.

When Tentomon returned, he made his report. “I didn’t see anything that looked like an exit anywhere. The fog is so thick that no one can get through. However…” Tentomon pointed directly above him. “The fog up above is thin and I could see stars. It’s pretty high up, but we might be able to get through if I evolve to AtlurKabuterimon.” But it was also highly likely that Vamdemon would spot them along the way. “Satellite communication!” Yamato’s father, Hiroaki, murmured. “We might not be able to send regular radiowaves, but if we use satellite communication, it’s possible that we can communicate with the outside.” Naturally, Fuji TV had a facility for that. The possibility of it was low, but it was worth a try. Tentomon could evolve to Perfect level and force their way out after if they had to. Hiroaki, Koushiro, and Tentomon left the construction site and snuck into Fuji TV station.

The only ones left were Hikari, Sora, Piyomon, Yamato, and Gabumon. Somewhere in the background was the sound of water dripping. A wind gently lifted up one end of the cloths covering the building under construction. Without anyone noticing, two streaks of red lightning extended through that gap. They hit Gabumon and Piyomon directly. The wind rose into a gust, blowing the cloths wide open to reveal Vamdemon waiting for them outside.

Because Zudomon was now evolved to Perfect level, Jou’s digivice unlocked the ability to detect his friends’ digivices and thus their locations. “If only I had this earlier, then I wouldn’t have had to make Takeru-kun and you two wait so much.” Jou laughed, but it didn’t work at relaxing everyone’s nerves. The digivice showed that three of their friends were in one spot, while the other three were off at a distance. “But this direction looks a little different from where we live…” Jou tilted his head in thought. The three closest dots didn’t look like they were at the condominiums, as he was expecting, but closer to Fuji TV station. Zudomon headed that way. As he did so, the three dots that were further away looked to be heading their way. One of the dots from the three closest to them broke off from the group. Jou didn’t know that the three dots at a distance were Taichi and Mimi, with Taichi holding Hikari’s digivice, while the one dot that separated was Koushiro. From the ocean, they saw a building in front of Fuji TV station that was under construction. They could see a dark, caped shape ascending from inside. “It’s Vamdemon,” Patamon said in a low voice. Luckily, Vamdemon had his back turned to them. Vamdemon disappeared at the top of Fuji TV station at the same time that Zudomon reached the shore. They also heard sounds of destruction inside the construction site. After Zudomon let Jou and the others off his back, he hurled off the cloths covering the building with one flick of his hammer. Yamato and Sora were inside. They were each holding Gabumon and Piyomon close to them. With them were a giant praying mantis, Snimon, and a dinosaur with two giant horns like those of a bull protruding out from its shoulders, Tuskmon. Snimon’s scythes easily cut through steel beams, and the power from Tuskmon’s charges could easily bulldoze Digimon of the same level. What’s more, Vamdemon’s earlier attack prevented Piyomon and Gabumon from moving, so they had no way of defending themselves. But for a Perfect level like Zudomon, they were no threat. “Hammer Spark!” Zudomon struck the Thor Hammer in his right hand at the closest steel beam. Sparks flew. The real power of Zudomon’s attack was neither from the hammer nor the destructive force that came from his arm strength. With one focused swing, the sparks that were created when both the Chrome Digizoid and his force of will combined could destroy the data composition of Digimon itself. The steel beams of the building stood in lines so close that Zudomon couldn’t slip through them, but the sparks became a dazzling striation that flew and hit Snimon and Tuskmon directly. The two of them were paralyzed, breaking down into particles in the next moment.

Yamato and Sora turned around slowly. Next to a large Digimon that they’ve never seen before was Jou, running towards them waving one arm. Takeru, Patamon, and Natsuko were there too. “Mom…” Yamato was dumbstruck. “Thank goodness we made it!” Jou said, beaming. It was Sora who recovered first. “Vamdemon has taken Hikari-chan!” Jou learned that he hadn’t made it.

In the novel version, Sora's mother was arrested at home from the very beginning, Sora fled directly at home and joined Yamato directly.

Mimi became a person fighting and facing all these things, and then Taichi came and rescued Mimi. Then it was the same plot, all protecting Hikari, but it failed. So this part is different.

Fandom Shipping Polls - Jou Kido Shipping Analysis (Poll I + Poll II)

As pointed out in the main post, every single Chosen Child will get their individual analysis post to check on the status of the current popularity of their ships. With that out of the way, let’s take a look at Jou, shall we!

The overall results / spreadsheet

Disclaimer: As the “Someone from 01/02″ and “Others” options from poll 1 and the “Someone from 01/02″ option from poll 2 have been excluded from the final analysis due to redundancy reasons and all results were culminated in another “final count”, the results will not be 1:1 to what the polls look like:

Overall votes: 109 (approx. 89 in sum after the exclusion), the main poll got 69 votes, the secondary poll got 40 votes.

The “Others” choice in the main poll received 11% (approx. 8 votes) and 0% (0 votes) in the secondary poll. The comments/tags did not specify any preferences here (aside from characters that were already part of the main choices).

Ship Analysis

1st place: With a huge lead of 34 votes, while basically facing no serious competition at any point of the voting time, Mimi (38%) won this poll very clearly, mirroring her own poll in the process. And that is not surprising;  within the tumblr fandom - and especially throughout the last year -, the ship has gained visibly more attention than it has in other internet spheres, especially Japanese centric. Considering how their bond is displayed in the anime, framing their arcs to intertwine at several points in the timeline around the theme of “selfish choices vs own choices”, it is not surprising that they are viewed as viable romantic options for each other as well. They do discover their roles as supporting characters while also supporting each other just splendidly, with tiny hints of (mutual) affection sprinkled in, making it quite an appealing ship.

2nd place: This has been one of the few cases in which the secondary poll had an impact on the final table, with second and third place being literally just 1 vote apart; Yamato (17%) won this race in the end and even though he was inheriting this place rather comfortable for the majority of the voting time, the third place could have overtaken him if it had gone on a little longer. Seeing how Joumato has gained more attention on Twitter lately, it is no surprise to see Yamato placed here though - as several media forms (the anime as well as the novels and the stageplay) have focused on their relationship. They encourage each other in terms of finding their paths, making their own choices and Jou was even responsible for activating Yamato’s Crest of Friendship in the first place.

3rd place: Our third spot is taken by none other than the famous Bike Girl (16%), one of the few unnamed side characters with only a short appearance in the “Diablomon Strikes Back” movie. However, she left a remarkable impression to a point that was highly appealing to the fandom - a mere passerby character, whom Jou enthusiastically asked for her bike to get Daisuke and Ken to their destination safely. STILL, she stayed by his side for the remaining runtime of the movie, even being shown contributing to the defeat of their enemy while standing next to him... Ending in a very friendly departure that, EVEN SEVERAL YEARS LATER, left us wondering if she wasn’t the mysterious girlfriend he had been referring to all throughout Tri. And thus, it is understandable that said mystery put her so high in the poll.

Honorary mentions: Following up to third place, Jou’s unnamed mystery girlfriend (13%) was pretty close as well - since we never got confirmation on who she was, what she looked like or what her name was, a very popular headcanon of the fandom is that her and Bike Girl are actually the same person, as mentioned above... Thus explaining why the votes were so close together. Other honorary mentions in this section include Sora and Koushiro, who received 4 votes each (5%). Taichi at least received 2 votes (2%).

“The 1 vote squad”: The niche section is occupied by Daisuke, Miyako, Iori and Meiko (1% each).

“0 votes go to…”: Zero votes have been given for Takeru, Hikari and Ken.

Annotations: Nothing extraordinary aside from the fact that Jou’s poll (as well as Iori’s) had been the reason why the secondary polls had been created in the first place. Despite Jou being among the characters who received the least votes overall, the “Others” option had gained comparably many votes (11% with 8 votes).

What did the other polls say?

Jou won Mimi’s poll (22%) only by a slim lead, and finished third in Yamato’s (17%) and also in Sora’s (7%), thus mirroring his own results at least to a certain degree.

In the majority of the remaining polls, he turned out to be a very rare and very niche choice, including Iori (4%), Taichi (2%), Koushiro (2%), Meiko (2%) and Daisuke (1%).

He received 0 votes in the polls for Takeru, Hikari, Ken and Miyako - as the former three didn’t receive any votes in his poll either, neither Joukeru, Joukari or Jouken are considered viable options.

Notable additions / comments / thoughts

Mimi had been almost without any serious competition - at least in terms of characters that actually had a name (or face), which was not surprising in the slightest, as he had been the winning choice in her poll as well. They are a popular choice in the Western fandom (and probably less visible in Eastern fandoms mainly due to the age difference). While Yamato has been a popular option overall, with their ship having gained more popularity recently, he earns his place here as well. Interestingly enough, due to the fact that Bike Girl and Jou’s (mystery) girlfriend were the choices that got most of the votes outside of the main cast, basically every other “main cast” option can be considered a rare-pair at this point  - which the small sample size obviously also contributed to. Thus, I really hope to reach a wider audience if I choose to repeat the polls.

Jou in general is a very interesting case to look at when it comes to the subject of shipping - while he gained a lot more popularity in recent years on tumblr and twitter and has fans who passionately do ship him with fellow Chosen Children, he still received among the least votes overall here (only behind Iori and Sora). This is especially due to him being the oldest character, so he is very unlikely to get shipped with the younger characters members of the cast. On one hand, that explains why “outside” choices (such as a somewhat canonically confirmed girlfriend) have been so popular here - and even though the Mimi/Jou/Koushirou triangle had a very tight race in Mimi’s poll, they had never been as intensely debated as, for instance, the Taiorato triangle. It may also explain why Hikari and Takeru, for example, didn’t receive any votes at all (despite Jou having saved the latter several timesand them sharing a bond due to that). Iori, however, did receive singular votes - which may have to do with him being Jou’s successor of the Crest of Reliability and him being his kohai, despite their age difference being the biggest in the entire series.

The comments in the tags have also only mentioned characters already included in the polls - since the “Others” option in the first poll already indicated lots of interest in outside choices, it is not surprising to see Bike Girl and his girlfriedn being so prevalent, while the “Others” choice in the secondary poll didn’t receive any further votes. So the “Others” option did not reveal any other potentially preferred suitors. Usually, the option is reserved for OC ships or for when people prefer to not ship a character at all (which will definitely be a future option to include as well!)

Moments I love from Digimon Adventure (1999) - [7/?]

Ok but do you see how a group of children handle an important decision on a time limit with more maturity and organization than any fictional or real adult? Even if they share the same goal. Impressive. A couple of things of that:

The oldest one acknowledging a leader in the group instead of forcing himself to be one just for being the most responsible.

The immediate agreement of Yamato, your closest thing to a rival that would oppose to that idea, but not here.

The convinced statements and stances from Mimi, Sora and Takeru, with some signs of growth.

The very cute way Koushiro is like "ah yes, I always trusted Taichi to begin with". They are the bestest of friends and I love it.

How Taichi asked again for validation, and his first decision was to trust the more capable person to solve the riddle, instead of rushed decisions just because he has the authority now (and without the pressure, because as he clarified in the Novel version, Taichi would be the one taking the final decision and the responsability that comes with that).

The way everyone supports every conclusion Koushiro reached and congratulates him, as he deserves!!

After all, Taichi trusting Koushiro knowledge and acknowledge his incredible helpful contribution is not new, and is still a thing very spot on until today:

On the Odaiba Memorial episode in 02, we have Koushiro talk about something important about the gates and the D-3, in which he just drops this theory here: "As long we have the D-3, we can go to the Digital World."

Back in Adventure, they did not go to the Digital World from a digital screen, no. It was via the "Aurora" thing, and at the end of 02 as well. Which reinforces Koushiro's theory in 02 (possibly what he thought years later when the D-3 became a thing.)

This also is shown in 02 episode 33 -- In which Ichijouji Ken and Stingmon comes from a river and not from a computer:

Many thought (including me) that this meant it was Ken being overpower because of his D-3, but turns out it wasn't the case -- it implies every D-3 user *can* do the same, it just they picked Ken to illustrate it because he was the one with Poromon after all.

At the time of Kizuna, we learn they can open gates to travel around the world. The movie shows gates can open at a random place, but Koushiro can at least predict where they will open.

As for the 02 group, they can open gates. It's their thing. So in Kizuna's drama CD, Miyako invents this fast travel exploit to go meet his friends while studying abroad. Also, at the end of the track, when Daisuke is with Ken and Iori, there's ambient sound in the background, implying they were outside. So, i guess the answer is: They can open gates without digital devices.

In Kizuna, at the scene Miyako meets her boys, there's the some "gate sound" which is heard, and i think this implies she opened it right there, on the stairs of Liberica University.

Also, the Dash X novel version of the movie has some interesting stuff about it, so i recommend reading the novel too.

One of the scenes (i don't recall of the movie now, so i'll check later), is this line said at the restaurant scene with Taichi and Yamato:

“A lot’s happened and now we can open the gate whenever we want, but those guys really do stay the same.”

So, this probably implies... yeah, they can open gates without a computer now ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

I need some help here with something. Does anyone have any information on how transportation through Digital Gates work in the Adv-verse, including examples from the animes (like images and video clips) and extended material????

A friend (thank you, friend!!!) pointed out they don't necessary need computers to open the gate and even told me some examples she remembered, but I need more concrete examples to help me with writing more details in my roleplaying.
