Hello! 🥺✨️ I'm pretty new in loving the amazing Pokémon trainers that the official games created, so I thought I'd compile all of my favorite fanfics of them that I've read last year. Here are some notes to read before you start scrolling:

We’re nearly to the end of another creative year! Tell us about some of the favourite fics you’ve written this year and why :3 likewise, do you have any fics you really enjoyed reading and following this year? 🐾

Favorite fics I wrote in 2024

I didn't write a ton this year, but I'll pick my favorite I did for each fandom! (And that's a highlightable factoid while we're here - my first two Star Rail fics were published this year! Thank you Sunday for the inspiration, even if you bled me dry for E2S1. You were worth it, king.)

Fave Genshin fic I wrote this year was One Size Fits All - Wriothesley/Clorinde/Neuvillette kink exploration and friends with benefits (the benefits are fisting). I was happy with the laid-back, casual voice I developed for Wrio and I really love the visual of Clorinde methodically wrecking him while he clutches desperately onto Neuvillette, half-incoherent with overstimulation. (Which was the thought that inspired the fic in the first place.)

My favorite Star Rail fic of the two I've written is don't tell me it's wrong - Sunrobin with heavy religious imagery, Sunday smothering under his guilt, and Robin as his light in the dark, keeping him off the misguided path he takes in canon. It's not for everybody but it's certainly for me, and I think people can tell when you write something self-indulgent with your whole pussy, because I've gotten a surprising amount of love for it despite the darker topics and taboo nature. I've thought about and analyzed Sunday enough that I sink into his headspace terrifyingly easily at this point, and I feel like that translated into a very good Sunday voice and characterization. I was happier with this fic than I've been with a fic in years, probably, because despite the fact that it has so much porn in it I feel like it's also one hell of a character study.

2024 Fic Recs!

I'd be remiss not to include some of your fics and I think my faves this year were late night snack (Azhdaha/Xiao/Zhongli) which was itself a delightful sweet new year's snack of its own involving three characters I love and had never seen as a trio, and but first, coffee, which is a feast of delightful Kaveh and Alhaitham interaction. Alhaitham is such an asshole sometimes and Kaveh is so stubborn and such a good man and you write that so well ♥️

Lately I'm really enjoying the WIP (falling) feels like flying by notavodkashot, featuring ballet instructor Zhongli and caretaker-of-many-siblings Childe growing closer and entering a very sexy D/s relationship. Guizhong is also there with her very delightful polycule, forming a delightfully snarky peanut gallery.

A rare completely SFW pick is A Snail is "A Foot" by Lee_Outis, which is about Kaveh being chased by a very slow snail that can kill instantly on contact. It is very much worth the read even if you usually go for spicy fic.

An ongoing longer fic that I'm still reading and enjoying as it comes out is testing, testing by Lithopus. Kaveh finds Alhaitham reading a book about kinks and, in a fluster, Kaveh offers to help Alhaitham try various kinks. It's at 4/12 planned chapters and over 100k already, and absolutely packed with delightful dynamics, snark, relationship development, and blisteringly hot sex already.

Eggs? Eggs. I know everybody expects me to put an egg fic on the rec list. And this one doesn't technically have eggs, but it is heavily egg-centered regardless: a good servant shall lay eggs by cutieterrarium, featuring Ajaw fattening Kinich up in order to lay eggs in him (wait don't go! *drags you back*) Ajaw doesn't get to use his pixel dick and there are no actual eggs in the fic, but it did the impossible and made me view Ajaw as sexy which. Good fucking job. Plus I'm not usually into feederism but the way it was pulled off here as dragon courtship behavior was really fun and, dare I say it, even a bit cute.

The other Star Rail standouts that I can recall off the top of my head this year were all by DFP: - trick of the light, a Feixiao/Moze/Jiaoqiu OT3 fic where Feiqiu are established and they're feeling their way through adding Moze into the relationship in a way that keeps him comfortable. Fantastic Moze PoV. - All three Argenti/Boothill fics, which are absolute must-reads if you enjoy robofucking, wireplay, and miscellaneous other mechanical shenanigans. - The winner of my 'still re-reading' award, old fashioned lover boy, which was published last year but won't leave my mind. Caelus tries to seduce Welt, and poor Welt wallows in guilt, feeling like a dirty old man about it, before Himeko takes mercy on him and tells him he's allowed to just go for it if he wants to since they're both consenting adults. Caelus is the epitome of being horny about that old man, and grandpa gets ridden into the mattress as he deserves. Absolute peak.

There were lots of other fantastic fics I've read this year of course, but these are the first that came to mind.

The Sun Is Out, The Day Is New - Favourite Scenes

Another one for one of my absolute favourite FFXV fanfics and fanfics in general, by the wonderful @notavodkashot :D

I really really wanted to draw some of my favourite scenes from the fic, so here we go :D Explanation and quotes below the cut!

1. Nyx and Cor (and Prompto)’s first meeting. Absolutely delightful.

Cor the Immortal walked out of the treeline, some fifteen minutes later, expression stern.

Nyx blinked at him, just as Cor blinked back.

“The fuck are you doing here?” Cor asked eloquently, frowning at him as if personally irritated by his existence, which he probably was.

Nyx gave up pretenses and laughed, slumping back on the ground. Prompto made huffy, sucking noises, and snuggled into his chest, clearly intent on going back to sleep.

2. Toddler!Prom who loves to tug on Nyx’s hair. :’)

All he had to do was coax Prompto into finishing the paste, and then they could go. And then maybe Nyx could find a village or town or somewhere, and figure out how to resupply.

Prompto pulled on the braid again, because the log ended and he didn't hit replay quick enough for his liking.

“You're so lucky I think you're cute,” Nyx sighed wryly, and wasn't even surprised when Prompto puked lunch all over his shirt.

3. ARANEA IS HERE. And she stepped on Cor’s head to catapult herself into the air! :D (This scene and how it unfolded will never not be delightful to me.)

The girl broke into a dead run, and leaped just as she reached Cor. Cor had a fantastical moment of blank incomprehension when she stepped on his head to boost herself up almost thirty feet into the air, right above their enemy. Then she twirled her lance until the blade was pointing to the ground, wrapped a leg around it and began spinning as she went down.

“A dragoon,” Cor muttered, watching her fall. It would have probably done a devastating amount of damage, all things considered, had the daemon not avoided a direct hit slithering sideways, considering the pavement cracked from impact. “A woefully inexperienced dragoon,” Cor amended with a sigh, and then ran forward to catch the incoming blades before they got to her.

4. Clarus having a late moment of realization. Cor and Nyx being incredibly amused. I love this scene so much :’)

“I know you dislike it when I meddle,” Clarus insisted, scowling at him, “but that's what friends do, Cor. We meddle when our friends are heading straight for disaster.”

“Like I said,” Cor retorted, “I think Nyx should hear this.”

“You are the-”

Nyx chose that moment to let himself into the room. Clarus spluttered and then stood up straight, trying to compose himself. Cor blinked at him.

“That wasn't five minutes,” he pointed out, one eyebrow arched.

Nyx shrugged.

“You sounded weird,” he said, and then grinned sheepishly. “So I might. Have warped up the stairs. On my way here.” Cor smirked at him, and Nyx grinned back, sticking his hands in the pockets of his pants. “So... what's this about?”

Clarus hesitated for a moment, and then charged head on with all the grace and tact of a bull.

“This idiot,” he said, pointing at Cor with a very accusing finger, “is in love with you.”

Nyx stared at him, clearly waiting for a follow up. This was not the reaction Clarus was expecting. Cor snorted.

“He means to say,” he murmured solicitously, “that he's concerned that my feelings for you are unrequited and will end in, his words not mine, unspeakable heartbreak because of it.”

Nyx blinked.

“What do you-” he paused. Blinked again. Then he stared at Clarus for a bit, squinting somewhat. “Oh. Oh.” He snorted and shared a look with Cor. “I get you.”

“I knew you would,” Cor replied, corner of his lip twitching up slightly.

“You've got very caring friends, Marshal,” Nyx pointed out, clearly more amused at the situation than Cor, but then that was why Cor had called him in, in the first place.

“I do, don't I,” Cor deadpanned.

Clarus was staring at them, clearly at loss of what was going on.

“Cor is very lucky to have a friend like you, Lord Amicitia,” Nyx told him, entirely too politely for his tastes, and it made alarm bells begin to scream in his head. “But your concern is sorely misplaced.”

“Is it?” Clarus asked, trying to wrestle control of the conversation back, but then spluttered gloriously when Nyx slid into Cor's lap, holding his stare over his shoulder as he did so.

“Yes,” Nyx said, in a taunting, teasing tone, and then bent down to kiss Cor nonchallantly.

Clarus flushed instantly.

“Oh,” he said, voice small and embarrassed, but all he got in reply was Cor's hands sliding around Nyx's waist as the kiss deepened. Clarus cleared his throat. “Gentlemen,” he tried again, voice strangled. Nyx moaned low in his throat. “I believe you've made your point!” Clarus cried out indignantly.

Cor stood up in reply, pulling Nyx up with him as he went, and went to drop Nyx onto Clarus' desk, still without breaking the kiss.

Clarus made a sound best described as a panicked squawk and all but ran out of the room.

“5. Cor and Prom’s quiet early mornings out on the porch. I am soft

Prompto liked the new house.

(...)

He liked the garden, too. It was very small, just a strip of grass along the back of the house, with an old, knotted tree in a corner that looked more dead than alive. You couldn't really play in it, like in the park, but Cor liked to sit on the steps early in the morning – so, so early, it was almost always still dark outside – bare feet on the grass as he drank his coffee, and he always let Prompto go sit with him, if he happened to be up by then. Even if he almost always ended up falling asleep again, anyway.

6. The Walk gives me a lot of feels, tbh.

The storm ended as abruptly as it began, the sky clearing up and the afternoon sun catching the last of it to display a massive rainbow in the distance. The wide circle broke up into smaller clusters of families, as they showed each other what they'd been given.

“These are mine?” Prompto asked him, holding up the three, shiny beads in his hands for him to see. “Like yours, but mine?”

“All yours,” Nyx said, and showed him the two he'd been given, this time around. In his hair, another three hung heavy and purposely from the braids, like a renewed commitment he'd tried his best to not forget about.

“Mine are red,” Aranea said, staring at her hand with a frown.

“You like red,” Nyx pointed out, rubbing his free hand against his nose to hide a sniffle.

“But what does it mean?” She insted, rolling the reddish purple beads between her fingers, fascinated by the texture against her skin.

“It means you're Galahdian, now,” Nyx said, arching an eyebrow at her, “if you want to be.”

“But I've never even been to Galahd,” Aranea replied, frowning.

“You have,” Nyx told her, licking his lips. “We were all there, just now.”

“Galahd is the Storm,” Cor murmured, one eyebrow arched, holding a single dark blue bead between thumb and index finger, “never thought you meant that literally.”

Nyx stared at him, and felt an overwhelming urge to just... fall into him and never surface again. He swallowed hard, because he was Commander still and they weren't done. They still needed him.

“You know what isn't though? Night,” Nyx said, grinning as he tilted his head back. “So let's get everyone home.”

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

Gladiolus Amicitia - this surprises exactly no one around these parts, but I LOVE this dude. Like, holy crap. He’s noble, he’s driven, he’s loyal, he’s strong, he’s flawed in very human ways, he doesn’t take any crap, he’s intelligent and well read…. I just… what’s not to love? Gladio @ Titan and Gladio @ the final campfire are two of my favourite peak Gladio moments.

Takashi Shirogane (Voltron: Legendary Defender) - apparently I have a thing for buff, strong leaders who are also mentors, kind, considerate, and have a bit of a temper. Shiro is another character I could write an essay about, but I’ll leave it there.

Makoto Niijima (Persona 5) - … okay I think I just have a thing for intelligent, competent, kind, and driven brunettes? Makoto’s intelligence is what drew me to her at first, plus her Metaverse aesthetic is ‘apocalypse biker’ and legit what is there not to love about that?

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why.

I used to be pretty active in the Mass Effect fandom, and it will always have a place in my heart, but time and interest means I don’t seek out content for it as much anymore.

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

The only one that comes to mind is one I mentioned in another post, but Gladio absolutely knows how to drive and I have (and will) continue to die on that hill.
